  How about Andre Palante out pitching, out dueling Paul

  Skeens last night. And Skeens pitch really, really

  well. What do you have?

  7 strikeouts, 6 innings, one run the Arenado hit, but Andre

  Palante with 9 KS going up there and posting zeros inning after

  inning after inning. Very impressive.

  And look, this Cardinal season has not at all been what anybody

  wants it to be. So the last month or so and
• 0:52
  these next couple weeks, you have to find reasons to watch.

  Paul Skeens being the main reason for me last night.

  I don't think I'd watch that much of A Cardinals game in
• 1:02
  months. I'm just being honest.

  But Paul Skeens is must watch television.

  Getting back to the Cardinals though, look, you got to find

  reasons to watch here these last couple weeks.

  And some of the young guys, whether it's it's a Jaycee whose

  dad, by the way, looks like Martin Scorsese, Scorsese,

  Scorsese, however way you pronounce it also.

  So JC, he literally is. I know I'm not by any means the

  first person to say this. Everybody's doing this on social

  media. He really is the right-handed
• 1:40
  version of Matt Carpenter, just with the no batting gloves, kind
• 1:44
  of the look like that dirt dog grinder rat type player.

  And I say that with with with love, right?

  Just like the gamer, the dude who's always dirty wiping his
• 1:59
  hands on his uniform. So JC looks like a young,
• 2:05
  right-handed version of Matt Carpenter.

  But what I'm saying is, so last year, the last two months, this

  season sucked. Adam Wainwright got his 200th
• 2:16
  win. So that was great.

  But it was ugly to get there, let's be real.

  But then you had Mason win, you had Mason win to watch for the

  last couple of months last year and he struggled offensively,

  but he basically dipped his toe in the water of Major League
• 2:34
  Baseball. Came back this year and it's
• 2:36
  been unbelievable, unbelievable. Alec Burleson, unbelievable this

  year. Really, really good.

  So hopefully, so JC gets his cup of coffee here in next couple
• 2:47
  weeks. Plays a lot, lot of ABS and sets

  himself up well for 2025. And I was going off on a tangent

  like I always do, but I was trying to talk about Andre

  Palante, which is in a crap season where everybody's

  disappointed with what happened. One of the bright spots and and
• 3:07
  on the pitching side, you know, you have Ryan Fernandez.

  I mean, Hell's he's been great, but you kind of expected that.

  Maybe not this good, but Andre Palante being a really good
• 3:17
  starter is got to be up there for one of the top bright spots
• 3:22
  for the Saint Louis Cardinals. And when you go ahead and you

  slot next year's rotation to meet Andre Palante, this is an
• 3:30
  obvious statement, but he he has to be in there, right?

  He's younger, not making a ton of money.

  Now, look, if you just start to go through the options, we know
• 3:41
  that you have Sonny Gray under contract.
• 3:44
  You have Miles Michaelis under contract and Steven Matt's under
• 3:48
  contract. Even though most of you guys
• 3:49
  probably don't want Miles Michaelis to be under contract
• 3:52
  or Steven Matt's to be under contract.

  Lance Lynn, I'm guessing they're going to part ways with him.

  You have this question, which I think is pretty close to 5050 on

  somebody like Kyle Gibson picking up his option.

  So if you start to go through, look, Sonny Gray, let's say they

  pick up Kyle Gibson's option. I think Steven Mass has to be a

  bullpen guy. I don't think Miles Michelis

  should have a spot in the rotation gifted to him,

  especially after the last couple years.

  Andre Polante deserves a spot in the starting rotation.

  I don't know if like Tink, hence Quinn Matthews, I just don't see

  those guys being starters in the big leagues out of camp.

  Now, if there's an injury, could you see one or both those guys

  jumping up? Remember also with really good

  pitchers, sometimes the Cardinals will put them in the
• 4:50
  bullpen for a year, which also can bite them in the butt if
• 4:54
  they keep them in the bullpen forever, which is one of those
• 4:57
  questions, whether it's Jordan Hicks, Ryan Helsley, we can

  always have those questions. Go back to Trevor Rosenthal, a
• 5:02
  guy who always wanted a starter, always wanted to be a starter in
• 5:05
  the big leagues, but he was so good as a reliever.

  So I'm hoping look, hence Matthews.

  Matthews is a is a beast. Huge, huge kid Tink is obviously

  a little a little. I don't I don't want to say

  scrawny. I was going to say wispy.

  It's kind of got that Pedro Martinez whip like build.

  Anyway, another tangent, but I don't think those guys are going

  to be in the big league rotation starting right out of camp now

  2026. I think that's a very fair thing

  to to hope for. Hopefully they're in the big

  leagues at some point in 2025 and contributing, but that's a

  long way of saying, look, Andre Palante, If anybody deserves a

  spot in the rotation next year besides Sonny Gray, it's

  Palante. I mean, of dudes that deserve

  it, he's the number two guy in my opinion, just who's pitching

  the best. What's his ERA?

  3.87, whatever it is. He had 9 strikeouts yesterday.

  Really, really solid, really, really good pitcher.

  So that's a bright spot right there.

  Also, I know this is a disappointing season.

  Cardinals are 75 and 75. They don't suck.

  They're not great by any means. But I think you at minimum have

  to give this team credit. They haven't, they haven't

  packed it in. They haven't quit.

  And I think that reflects well on Ali Mar Mole.

  I've said forever, I don't think Ali Mar Mole yet is a great

  manager. I don't think he's a terrible

  manager. I think he's a fine, OK, solid

  manager. This is much more on Dewitt's
• 6:41
  mosaic for what's happened with the Cardinals the last couple

  years. That being said, I don't think

  Ali and his staff necessarily add value, especially on the

  hitting side of things. And my thing with Ali was I just

  didn't think he deserved the extension before the season
• 6:57
  started. But all that again, look, I, I

  think this team, this team hasn't quit.

  And just ask yourself, how good is this team?

  Let's say they finish 81 and 81. That's what they're on pace for.

  Let's say they're 82 and 80, whatever it is.

  This is a team that was projected to be about 82838485

  wins. So OK, you can say you can say

  they were about 1234 wins less than projected.

  I also thought they'd make a nice little jump at the trade

  deadline when they added some some nice pieces in Fetty and in

  Tommy Fam. Oh, by the way, look how dumb am

  I went through all those pictures and didn't mention Eric

  franchise needs to improve. Clearly drafting, developing,

  knowing who to trade, knowing who to keep.

  That's been a huge issue, arguably the biggest issue over

  the last five years or so. So we'll see what happens to
