- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed
- 0:07to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:11I'm your host, Andrew McGivern for December 11th.
- 0:14Today is International Mountain Day, a United Nations observance
- 0:18celebrating the importance of mountains to have life on Earth.
- 0:22Mountains cover 27% of the planet's surface and provide
- 0:27fresh water to half of humanity. They're home to incredible
- 0:32biodiversity, unique cultures, and some of the world's most
- 0:37spectacular landscapes. But mountains are also fragile
- 0:41ecosystems, increasingly threatened by climate change,
- 0:44deforestation and unsustainable tourism.
- 0:48International Mountain Day reminds us that mountains aren't
- 0:51just scenic backdrops, they're vital to our survival and
- 0:55deserve our protection. Photographer Ansel Adams, who
- 1:00spent his life capturing the Sahara, Nevada, understood the
- 1:04power of mountains. He once wrote.
- 1:08No matter how sophisticated you may be, a large Granite Mountain
- 1:13cannot be denied. It speaks in silence to the very
- 1:18core of your being. Atoms knew that mountains don't
- 1:23need words. They communicate directly,
- 1:26bypassing our intellect and speaking straight into something
- 1:30deeper. You can be the most educated,
- 1:34cultured, sophisticated person in the world.
- 1:38You can have advanced degrees and impressive credentials.
- 1:41You can know all the geological terms, understand plate
- 1:45tectonics, grasp the science of erosion.
- 1:49But when you stand before a mountain, none of that matters.
- 1:53The mountain doesn't care about your sophistication.
- 1:57It simply is massive, ancient, undeniable.
- 2:02And something inside you responds, not from your brain,
- 2:06your core. That silence Adams describes is
- 2:11profound. Mountains don't shout.
- 2:14They don't need to. Their presence is enough.
- 2:18They've been standing for millions of years.
- 2:21They'll be standing long after we're gone.
- 2:25That perspective, that humbling sense of scale, it speaks to us
- 2:30whether we want to hear it or not.
- 2:33Today, honor the mountains. If you can go to 1, stand out of
- 2:39space, look up and let it speak its silent truth to your core.
- 2:46If mountains aren't nearby, find a photo.
- 2:49Really look at it. Not at the technical details or
- 2:52the beauty. Look at the mountain itself.
- 2:56Let it be what it is. Ancient, undeniable, indifferent
- 3:00to everything except existence itself.
- 3:04Because Adams understood what mountains teach us.
- 3:07We're small, life is short, and there's something humbling and
- 3:12freeing about standing before something that cannot be denied.
- 3:17Listen to that silence, let it speak.
- 3:21That's going to do it for today. I'm Anna McGivern, signing off
- 3:25for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 3:30Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
