- 0:00Speaker 1: We have Emily, who's kind of like the female Roy Kent.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Oh see, I actually like in Church you Jamie.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'm Megan and I'm a lifelong Hallmark movie fan.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I'm Wendy and I don't approve Chris Polaja's hair in
- 0:32Speaker 2: this movie.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Why come on today? We're discussing a winning team which
- 0:37Speaker 1: originally aired on Saturday, March eighteenth on the Hallmark Channel.
- 0:42Speaker 1: If you want to connect with us outside of the podcast,
- 0:44Speaker 1: we'd love for you to follow us on Instagram. We
- 0:46Speaker 1: are both at Girls Gone Hallmark and at Megan and Wendy.
- 0:51Speaker 2: You can also email us anytime Megan and Wendy at
- 0:54Speaker 2: gmail dot com, or pop into our Girls Gone Hallmark
- 0:58Speaker 2: Facebook group. We're going to talk a little bit more
- 1:01Speaker 2: about our Facebook group in a minute.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Okay, tell me some Hallmark news.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Well, you know, we've been hitting the Hallmark News tap
- 1:11Speaker 2: quite a bit and there's not a whole lot coming
- 1:15Speaker 2: out of their camp lately. I'm calling this section a
- 1:18Speaker 2: Hallmark News and Notes plus a little housekeeping.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Springing to Love officially kicks off next week with a
- 1:24Speaker 2: Tyler Hines movie called Picture of Her I mistaken.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Lee said that that movie was this week on the
- 1:32Speaker 1: of last week's episode. If anybody's like, what are you doing,
- 1:35Speaker 1: that's what happened.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Oh okay, Well, we have the entire spring lineup on
- 1:41Speaker 2: our website at meganowindy dot com. Are you looking forward
- 1:44Speaker 2: to the Tyler Hines movie always? I'm telling you, if
- 1:47Speaker 2: the man does not have a candy been hanging out
- 1:49Speaker 2: of his mouth, I might revolt.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Look, he can make a bad movie watchable absolutely.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Facebook group member and podcast listener Mike was talking about
- 2:00Speaker 2: in the group how Heines always like greets friends or
- 2:05Speaker 2: people like hello friends in the movies and how he
- 2:09Speaker 2: really like it sees him in person one day wants
- 2:12Speaker 2: him to say that to him.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's a great moment. Yeah, I was. I
- 2:15Speaker 1: was thinking about it.
- 2:16Speaker 2: You know, you and I have talked about hopefully maybe
- 2:19Speaker 2: going to Christmas Con this summer.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Is it this summer? Right?
- 2:24Speaker 2: And I'm going to say, like I think, listener Mike
- 2:26Speaker 2: needs to come out.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Let's have a girl's gone Hallmark med them Christmas Con.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Let us know, yeah, and let's just try to get
- 2:34Speaker 1: like picks with Hines and all that fun stuff. But
- 2:37Speaker 1: you are looking forward to that movie. I am not
- 2:41Speaker 1: about the movie. The previews are not leading me. They
- 2:44Speaker 1: believe that the movie's gonna be like some mind blowing,
- 2:46Speaker 1: groundbreaking Hallmark ou But I obviously we love Tyler Hines.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Rhiannon Fish is new wish to me, but I think
- 2:55Speaker 1: she'll do well. I think it's a nice pairing.
- 2:57Speaker 2: That's funny you bring that up because base today's movie,
- 3:01Speaker 2: we're talking about a winning team. I'm like, are they
- 3:04Speaker 2: trying to introduce like newer newcomers with like seasoned actors.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I think that's always the move, often the move. I'm
- 3:13Speaker 1: telling you, I don't really like it. Oh no, I
- 3:16Speaker 1: like a fresh face, so do I.
- 3:18Speaker 2: But I like familiar favorites as well, sure, which is
- 3:22Speaker 2: why they bring them in.
- 3:24Speaker 1: They're like, you're gonna watch this rhiannon Fish movie because
- 3:26Speaker 1: it's got our boy, Candy Kane McGee.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Let's talk about last week's Unexpected Grace. Last week's episode,
- 3:34Speaker 2: the Friday Bonus episode, we did talk about the ratings
- 3:38Speaker 2: for that movie and how it didn't.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Fare very well.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Right, I looked them up again, and I don't know
- 3:45Speaker 2: if this.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Is the what do they call it? Three plus Live
- 3:48Speaker 1: plus three. The numbers that I.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Came across are that it came in at number one
- 3:55Speaker 2: oh six hour out of one point fifty.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Keep in mind those rankings are not based on viewership,
- 4:00Speaker 1: they're based on share of the demo. I have that
- 4:04Speaker 1: number as well. Okay, zero point zero four. That's not good.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I don't think it was our most few show.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I have a thought, Well, I was gonna talk about
- 4:14Speaker 2: like the heated debate in our Facebook group, but what
- 4:18Speaker 2: are you really mean towards This.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Is a brief thought. I think this. Damn it, it
- 4:22Speaker 1: is raining again. I can't handle it. Oh rain, it
- 4:27Speaker 1: broke me fyday. Look, I love the rain. I hate summer.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'm not looking forward to summer at all at all.
- 4:38Speaker 1: But there wasn't even supposed or rain today. It wasn't
- 4:41Speaker 1: sposed to rain yesterday. Every time I turned around, it
- 4:44Speaker 1: is raining. I just Saturday. I'm not even an outdoors
- 4:50Speaker 1: a person. It was so sunny and beautiful on Saturday
- 4:53Speaker 1: that I sat outside like a lizard and I was
- 4:55Speaker 1: like soaking it up because it was so nice, like
- 4:57Speaker 1: the birds were chure. Okay, my husband he was complaining
- 5:01Speaker 1: about the rain.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Too, and I was like, dude, you want to move
- 5:05Speaker 2: to potentially a cold weather, rainy state, and he's like,
- 5:09Speaker 2: first of all, Gennifer has the most sunniest days. That
- 5:12Speaker 2: is true, Okay, fine, and then he goes, second of all, I.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Pay premium to live in southern California the rain every
- 5:18Speaker 1: freaking week. That's true. I know. Someone was like, I
- 5:21Speaker 1: pay high taxes to live here, and I want my
- 5:23Speaker 1: money back. So my husband also would like to move
- 5:27Speaker 1: to some place with quote seasons, and I think we're
- 5:31Speaker 1: in season A Cole weeks ago he was like, I
- 5:33Speaker 1: don't know about moving somewhere where it's cold like this
- 5:36Speaker 1: all the time. Back on track, I have a prediction
- 5:40Speaker 1: based on absolutely nothing, and that is that this movie
- 5:43Speaker 1: might be one of those slow burned movies that people
- 5:46Speaker 1: turn to and they're like, that was a really lovely story.
- 5:49Speaker 1: In our Facebook group, that happens a lot when we
- 5:52Speaker 1: have a movie on a particular topic, people will share like, oh,
- 5:55Speaker 1: here's other great portrays of this. That's why I love
- 5:59Speaker 1: our group. Yeah. Yes, and I have obviously have not
- 6:03Speaker 1: seen every homemark movie made. It's great to get those recommendations.
- 6:05Speaker 1: So I think that might be what happens with this movie. Okay,
- 6:09Speaker 1: now let's talk about the hullabaloo as it were. Well,
- 6:13Speaker 1: I'm gonna.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Say there was a pretty heated conversation about the premise
- 6:21Speaker 2: of this movie or what happened in this movie in
- 6:24Speaker 2: our Facebook group.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Yes, and did you have We'll tell everybody what it
- 6:31Speaker 1: was about in a moment. But did you have those
- 6:33Speaker 1: feelings watching this movie?
- 6:34Speaker 2: No?
- 6:35Speaker 1: Not once.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Was I pleased with what Noel did about not being fourthright,
- 6:43Speaker 2: forthright about her daughter dying? Did she handle it not
- 6:47Speaker 2: quite right?
- 6:48Speaker 1: Yes?
- 6:49Speaker 2: That was all messy, but no, I did not agree
- 6:53Speaker 2: with the claims that were being made.
- 6:55Speaker 1: There were some people who felt like Noel's behavior boarded
- 6:59Speaker 1: on grooming. It made them really uncomfortable, and people felt
- 7:04Speaker 1: really strongly that way, and then people felt really strongly
- 7:07Speaker 1: the other way. Even I'm really highly suggestible. So if
- 7:11Speaker 1: someone's like, actually I think this, I'll go, oh, that's
- 7:14Speaker 1: a good idea. Yeah, same, That's what happened for me here.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I feel like they righted the ship at the right moment.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Was it weird when she was like she can stay
- 7:25Speaker 1: here with me? It was weird And her dad was like,
- 7:29Speaker 1: that's not gonna happen. He reacted appropriately too.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yeah, but I also don't think Noel was suggesting that
- 7:38Speaker 2: Grace stay there so she could groom.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Her for nefarious purpose. Yes, yes, I feel like she
- 7:45Speaker 1: was developing this relationship in a motherly way. Yeah, I
- 7:52Speaker 1: stand by I think this is a really beautiful movie.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I agree.
- 7:55Speaker 2: So if you guys want to see everything that went down,
- 7:57Speaker 2: click our link in the show notes to join a
- 8:01Speaker 2: Facebook group.
- 8:02Speaker 1: One last bit of news and notes. This past weekend
- 8:05Speaker 1: was Nineties Con, put on by the That's Entertainment Group,
- 8:07Speaker 1: who also puts on Christmas Con twice a year, and
- 8:12Speaker 1: among the many Nineties stars in attendance was Jody Sweeten
- 8:17Speaker 1: along with some of her Full and Fuller House co stars,
- 8:21Speaker 1: including Candace Cameron Beret. And there has been no outward
- 8:27Speaker 1: statement of Jody and Candace saying like we're not friends
- 8:31Speaker 1: with each other. But I like to read between the lines,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and this has made some very public statements. And then
- 8:36Speaker 1: Jody will counteract by not addressing Candace personally, but by
- 8:41Speaker 1: posting content that is in contrast to yes CCB's beliefs.
- 8:48Speaker 1: So when I saw her post from this weekend, she's wearing,
- 8:54Speaker 1: among other things, a T shirt that says Levia, and she,
- 8:56Speaker 1: in her caption says big thank you to Dylan mulvaney
- 8:59Speaker 1: for my love yeah shirt. Now, Dylan mulvaney is a
- 9:02Speaker 1: very public trans woman, and she has a fun follow
- 9:07Speaker 1: on TikTok.
- 9:07Speaker 2: M hm.
- 9:08Speaker 1: It feels like a statement. I think so too. I
- 9:13Speaker 1: think it's a statement. I think it's a big middle finger. Yeah, no,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I do. And I tiptoed into the comments on Toty's
- 9:23Speaker 1: Instagram posts and then I like backpedaled real quickly. I
- 9:26Speaker 1: could not stay there for very long. Our understanding is
- 9:29Speaker 1: they were in the same room together. They didn't really
- 9:32Speaker 1: interact right like the two of us are doing. People
- 9:35Speaker 1: read into those interactions obviously, we cannot know that happened.
- 9:38Speaker 1: To think we're right.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I think it's telling that there was not a photo
- 9:42Speaker 2: taken of them together other than a full.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Group shot where they are not next to each other.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Yes, and it appears that CCB had her right hand man,
- 9:55Speaker 2: Andrea Barber, with her the entire time, which is it's
- 10:00Speaker 2: kind of funny because Andrew Barber lives locally to us, She's.
- 10:04Speaker 1: She's an Orange County lady. My opinion of her.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Maybe is not fair because of who she associates with,
- 10:11Speaker 2: I guess.
- 10:12Speaker 1: She works for GUS. Yeah, I don't think it's unfair
- 10:17Speaker 1: to suggest that perhaps she shares some of those opinions.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to suggest you stay off of CCB's Instagram,
- 10:25Speaker 2: I am, because I went over there and it was
- 10:28Speaker 2: just real bad.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Well, speaking of getting fired up, yeah, let's talk about
- 10:32Speaker 1: a winning team. Oh my god, that's her A synopsis
- 10:35Speaker 1: all right.
- 10:36Speaker 2: When pro soccer player Emily finds herself no longer in
- 10:39Speaker 2: the game, she teams up with Ian, a laid back
- 10:42Speaker 2: small town coach, to lead her niece's team to the playoffs.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Starring Nadia Hatta and Christopher Polaha, this.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Movie was written by Ronnie Yuashiro. She has one and
- 10:53Speaker 1: only writing credit. And I'd like to read you I
- 10:55Speaker 1: caption from an Instagram post of hers if I may,
- 10:58Speaker 1: he says, if you know me, then you know I've
- 11:00Speaker 1: been pursuing this writing dream for more than two decades.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Two decades. That is a long time, and truth be told,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I wasn't sure it would ever happen. So I'm extra
- 11:08Speaker 1: proud that my first movie features both youth soccer and
- 11:11Speaker 1: a badass Asian lead. Do things very close to my heart.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Representation is important and I feel grateful I've played a
- 11:16Speaker 1: small part in that. I just enjoyed that. That's why
- 11:18Speaker 1: I wanted to share it.
- 11:19Speaker 2: You know, I looked at her LinkedIn because I was
- 11:21Speaker 2: looking for.
- 11:22Speaker 1: More information about who she was.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, and she did attend the University of Southern
- 11:26Speaker 2: California like writing program for film and movies. Like she
- 11:31Speaker 2: has been working on this for a long time, So
- 11:35Speaker 2: like I'm proud of her, know her, but like I'm
- 11:39Speaker 2: proud of her for finally getting the writing credit that.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I felt the same feeling pride for.
- 11:45Speaker 2: This movie stars obviously Christopher Polaha. He plays Ian. Everyone
- 11:51Speaker 2: knows who Chris is, right. He was in last year's
- 11:55Speaker 2: We Wish You Had Married Christmas and movie we both
- 11:57Speaker 2: really enjoyed, and had a cameo in Haul Out the Holly.
- 12:01Speaker 2: He will start in the highly anticipated A Biltmore Christmas
- 12:05Speaker 2: later this year. I'm actually really looking forward to that movie.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I hope it doesn't let me down. And according to
- 12:13Speaker 2: his IMDb, he has a ton of upcoming work, including
- 12:17Speaker 2: Harlan Coben's Shelter, which I think might be a Netflix.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Movie based on the book. Yeah, yeah, he's.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Not listed on the like IMDb as like a main character.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Uh huh, but you know IMDb is hit or.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Miss unreliable in its accuracy. Yeah. This was directed by
- 12:39Speaker 1: Jason Ferrokawa, who has thirteen directing credits, including A Magical
- 12:42Speaker 1: Christmas Village. But he has worked as an assistant director
- 12:46Speaker 1: on seventy one Wow projects, including Pachenko on Apple TV,
- 12:52Speaker 1: plus The Simone Bio Story and tons of Hallmarks, so
- 12:55Speaker 1: he's been in the directing gig for quite a while.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Nadia had to places three time World Cut soccer champion Emily.
- 13:03Speaker 2: According to her IMDb, She's best known for her role
- 13:06Speaker 2: in a series called Away on Netflix, and this is
- 13:09Speaker 2: her first Hallmark movie. I'd also like to note that
- 13:13Speaker 2: she was a VJ at MTV Asia at one time.
- 13:16Speaker 1: What Yeah. Marct House plays Coach Avala in this movie.
- 13:20Speaker 1: She has one hundred to two acting credits Wow a
- 13:24Speaker 1: broad range things like Monster High and Ivy and Bean,
- 13:27Speaker 1: but also Hallmark movies like Christmas and Evergreen Bells Are Ringing,
- 13:31Speaker 1: Cranberry Christmas, Picture Perfect Mysteries. She was in some episodes
- 13:35Speaker 1: of Chesapeake Shores. I mean, she has just been working
- 13:40Speaker 1: a real standout performance for me in this movie. She
- 13:43Speaker 1: was the coach, right.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Yeah, did you recognize a deal Zadi?
- 13:49Speaker 1: I did.
- 13:51Speaker 2: He's been in a ton of stuff and he's always
- 13:54Speaker 2: like the friend of role in these Hallmark movies.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Justice for a Dill.
- 13:58Speaker 2: I'm telling you it's time the man. He's a lead
- 14:00Speaker 2: role and I think he's pretty dang cute too.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Nicki Garcia plays Eva. She has only a handful of
- 14:07Speaker 1: acting credits, including an uncredited roll in the Hallmark movie
- 14:10Speaker 1: Five More Minutes, and I hope that this is just
- 14:14Speaker 1: the beginning for her. She was really cute. I liked
- 14:18Speaker 1: her too.
- 14:19Speaker 2: This was filmed in Vancouver during wintertime, which made this
- 14:23Speaker 2: spring movie hard to film, especially the outdoor soccer scenes.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yeah, this is like Snowy, the second movie in a row.
- 14:29Speaker 1: We've got epic snowstorms impacting filming. Let's move on to
- 14:33Speaker 1: first impressions. I'm gonna let you go first, fresh genre,
- 14:37Speaker 1: fresh cast, stale tropes.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Oh I put typical Hallmark fair with a dash of
- 14:44Speaker 2: ted Lasso.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I have that ted Lasso. I'm gonna sort of
- 14:48Speaker 1: run into what I liked with that, Okay, because I
- 14:50Speaker 1: liked the soccer. I think that's a fresh take on
- 14:53Speaker 1: a genre, on a storyline. We're not in an old
- 14:55Speaker 1: town candy shop. We're not small down. I liked it,
- 14:58Speaker 1: and I think the timing is is great. Had last
- 15:01Speaker 1: of Season three launch last week. We have Emily, who's
- 15:05Speaker 1: kind of like the female Roy Kent.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Oh see, I actually like in urchy Jamie Okay, you know,
- 15:12Speaker 2: like because he's so aggressive.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I thought that's so crouchy. I think it's a good
- 15:16Speaker 1: amalgamation of those two. Now, obviously I'm not the soccer
- 15:22Speaker 1: one of the two of us. You live a much
- 15:24Speaker 1: more soccer life than I do, so I'm sure you
- 15:25Speaker 1: have some thoughts. I haven't been the soccer game since
- 15:28Speaker 1: since I was in high school.
- 15:29Speaker 2: I have lots of thoughts. What did you like about
- 15:32Speaker 2: this movie? Other than the soccer genre, I.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Thought there was some real snappy dialogue in this. I agree, agree,
- 15:40Speaker 1: loved a nod to the Swifties. The timing again excellent.
- 15:44Speaker 1: The airs tour kicked off on Friday night. I just
- 15:48Speaker 1: thought it was really fresh dialogue.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Yeah, they used words I wrote this down sus yeah,
- 15:54Speaker 2: low key yeah. And then when coach Ian tells the
- 15:57Speaker 2: girls to stay off TikTok, I was like, wow, Wow, yep.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I wonder if that went over the heads of some
- 16:06Speaker 2: of maybe the more mature viewers of Hallmark. Yeah, maybe
- 16:14Speaker 2: I'm gonna say shout out for the Asian American casting
- 16:16Speaker 2: throughout this movie. Yeah, I love when Homemark has a
- 16:23Speaker 2: nice diverse cast and we're not it's a movie not
- 16:27Speaker 2: about like a Chinese.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Restaurant or.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Chinese New Year or whatever. Like it's not even like addressed,
- 16:37Speaker 2: you know what I mean? I like it.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I thought those exact same thoughts. I was looking at
- 16:42Speaker 1: IMDb while you were talking because I was curious about something.
- 16:44Speaker 1: And this has a whole host of executive producers, but
- 16:49Speaker 1: one of whom is Jua Batkina. Do you recall what
- 16:53Speaker 1: I have said about the kind of story Juabatcin likes
- 16:57Speaker 1: to write family drama. She likes to write complicated relationships.
- 17:03Speaker 1: This is rated for real out but she was a producer.
- 17:05Speaker 1: She was not a writer on this. But I thought
- 17:07Speaker 1: toward the end of this movie, we had a lot
- 17:10Speaker 1: of gems, and a lot of them came from Emily's brother.
- 17:14Speaker 1: And first she's talking to him about how you know
- 17:18Speaker 1: she and Ian like how disappointed he was that she
- 17:20Speaker 1: was leaving. And she's like, what does he think I
- 17:24Speaker 1: was gonna do? Like I had to go back to
- 17:26Speaker 1: my team, and he says maybe he thought he was
- 17:30Speaker 1: the team too, like his marriage had ended because his
- 17:36Speaker 1: wife wasn't willing, Like she could either be a wife
- 17:40Speaker 1: or she could be a doctor, she couldn't be both.
- 17:42Speaker 1: And now here he is in this same situation. Again.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I have some thoughts about how he behaved, but I
- 17:49Speaker 1: thought that was really interesting. Maybe he thought he was
- 17:51Speaker 1: the team too, because then the brother says, it doesn't
- 17:54Speaker 1: have to be either soccer or us, Like, let's get
- 17:57Speaker 1: to the point where you find a little bit about
- 18:00Speaker 1: in your life. Okay.
- 18:01Speaker 2: So that's one of the through lines that I liked
- 18:03Speaker 2: about this movie is you can have your something, but
- 18:06Speaker 2: you're something doesn't have.
- 18:07Speaker 1: To be your everything.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Yeah. Great, and I enjoy that, Like you could love
- 18:12Speaker 2: soccer and acting, they still have fun doing both, Like
- 18:16Speaker 2: I thought that was a good message. Or for Emily,
- 18:20Speaker 2: like exploring hobbies outside of like she was just so
- 18:23Speaker 2: consumed with soccer and training and this is who I am.
- 18:27Speaker 2: So I did enjoy that through line.
- 18:30Speaker 1: However, I did think.
- 18:33Speaker 2: That there was some weird guilty feelings. Sure, I'm going
- 18:38Speaker 2: to talk more about that, Okay, in our next section.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I gotta say that Christopher Paulaja continues to impress me.
- 18:48Speaker 2: And there were some scenes in this movie where I
- 18:50Speaker 2: thought he had They were wonderful, heartfelt scenes, like I
- 18:55Speaker 2: truly believe he's such a good actor. I didn't love
- 19:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna say it now. I didn't love the script.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I thought it was kind of boring the story. The story,
- 19:07Speaker 2: and I think he deserves a meteor role. But like,
- 19:12Speaker 2: for example, when him and Emily are in the kitchen
- 19:15Speaker 2: and he's telling the story of why he and his
- 19:17Speaker 2: ex broke up, like I felt it was very enjoyable
- 19:21Speaker 2: to watch, Like he just I don't. I just find
- 19:24Speaker 2: him to be a very good actor. Yeah, I think
- 19:28Speaker 2: this was a miscast for him though.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Oh interesting.
- 19:31Speaker 2: I felt like this was a good movie for a newcomer,
- 19:35Speaker 2: but not a good.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Movie for like a seasoned vet. Okay, Okay, those are
- 19:40Speaker 1: my opinions.
- 19:41Speaker 2: That's fine, and put the tamber judge meme up. Let's
- 19:45Speaker 2: talk what we wished for. Okay, again, I thought the
- 19:48Speaker 2: movie was pretty boring overall. Okay, I kept like looking
- 19:53Speaker 2: at the clock to see, like when it was gonna
- 19:55Speaker 2: be over.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I'll terrible saying that I didn't love it. That's okay.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I wished for, among other things, less ropes course both
- 20:05Speaker 1: more soccer. I feel like Hallmark must have some agreement
- 20:08Speaker 1: with this ropes course, like we will use you as
- 20:11Speaker 1: a set piece and X amount of our movies because
- 20:14Speaker 1: there are so many ropes courses in Hallmark movies. I
- 20:17Speaker 1: get it. Like the team building, the connection, I get it.
- 20:22Speaker 1: There was too much going on. If you're gonna make
- 20:25Speaker 1: a soccer movie, have fun with the soccer part of it.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Get more involved with the team, have a rivalry with
- 20:32Speaker 1: another team, get into the relationships with the players, get
- 20:35Speaker 1: more into that you're gonna make a soccer movie. Make
- 20:39Speaker 1: a soccer movie. Yes, I agree with that. Absolutely. We
- 20:42Speaker 1: had enough externally going on with Emily and her relationship
- 20:47Speaker 1: with Ava and Ava exploring other interests, and Emily's team
- 20:52Speaker 1: back home and Ian with his business development while also
- 20:56Speaker 1: kind of like still emotionally recovering from his divorce. Yeah,
- 21:01Speaker 1: there's a lot.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, and a lot of like lots of
- 21:06Speaker 2: lots of storylines come in my way. So I needed
- 21:09Speaker 2: Nadia Hatause character Emily.
- 21:12Speaker 1: To be more likable. You need to calm down. I
- 21:17Speaker 1: just I needed to root for her.
- 21:20Speaker 2: And I thought she was gruff and short and I
- 21:22Speaker 2: know it all and super competitive, and I was like, yeah,
- 21:24Speaker 2: I don't. I don't write with you kind of people,
- 21:27Speaker 2: you know what I mean. Like, I just needed her
- 21:29Speaker 2: to chill out a little bit. She had some moments
- 21:32Speaker 2: where I was like, I like the actress.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, she's fun to watch on screen,
- 21:36Speaker 1: but her character when she slighte tackles Ian, I was like,
- 21:40Speaker 1: she should have been punched in the face. That was
- 21:41Speaker 1: a ridiculous. There.
- 21:43Speaker 2: You're not condoning violence against women.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I'm not, but there's no world in which that is
- 21:50Speaker 1: a reasonable action in a pickup soccer game. And she
- 21:53Speaker 1: would know better. She would know better. It's not like
- 21:56Speaker 1: I can't turn it off. Yeah. Yeah, you had to
- 22:00Speaker 1: worked too hard to like her and then root for
- 22:03Speaker 1: her relationship with Ian. That's I just, That's why I
- 22:06Speaker 1: didn't care.
- 22:06Speaker 2: And I thought they had zero chemistry too, Like it
- 22:09Speaker 2: was a very like platonic relationship.
- 22:12Speaker 1: To me, I thought, I thought, yeah, I thought they
- 22:15Speaker 1: made the chemistry work. I think Christopher Pola could have
- 22:18Speaker 1: chemistry with a paper bag so fine, like tuck her
- 22:21Speaker 1: little hair behind her, and I'm like, I'm in, I'm in.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I don't know what to tell you. That's it doesn't
- 22:25Speaker 1: take much shine. But I I didn't. I didn't. I
- 22:30Speaker 1: didn't love it.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Please don't come for me. But some of these soccer
- 22:34Speaker 2: scenes were like brutal to watch. And okay, so if
- 22:38Speaker 2: you remember last week in Unexpected Grace, I talked about
- 22:41Speaker 2: basketball defense, yeah, and before I was a basketball mom,
- 22:43Speaker 2: I was a soccer mom. And I'm telling you, like
- 22:46Speaker 2: the swatting away of the ball when they kick it
- 22:48Speaker 2: on the goalie, Like, well, okay. And it's funny because
- 22:52Speaker 2: a listener of the pod, she goes by Peebee. She
- 22:56Speaker 2: messaged me on Instagram. She's like, I cannot wait to
- 22:59Speaker 2: hear what you guys have to say about this character Emily,
- 23:02Speaker 2: and I was like, oh, I'm fifteen minutes in and
- 23:04Speaker 2: the soccer is killing me. And she's like, well, I
- 23:06Speaker 2: used to play soccer too, and then she goes, oh,
- 23:08Speaker 2: by the way, she sends me this Instagram post that
- 23:12Speaker 2: the actress Nadia had posted and was talking about how
- 23:16Speaker 2: excited she was about this movie and how special it
- 23:19Speaker 2: was because she played competitive soccer when she was younger.
- 23:23Speaker 2: And I was like, Yaykes because when she was taking
- 23:27Speaker 2: shots on goal, it looked like me taking shots on goal.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Yeah. I've never played soccer at my.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Time, so I mean, I'm not expecting like World champion
- 23:38Speaker 2: soccer to happen out here.
- 23:40Speaker 1: But does better soccer.
- 23:42Speaker 2: It's a beautiful game. It's really fun to watch when
- 23:44Speaker 2: it's done correctly. And I'm going to say that a
- 23:47Speaker 2: show that we watch on Netflix. Never have I ever Oh,
- 23:52Speaker 2: they do soccer well on that team. And you know why,
- 23:54Speaker 2: I know that because my daughter's former trainer was hired
- 24:01Speaker 2: as like an extra to play soccer on that Like
- 24:03Speaker 2: they hire extras who actually know how to play sports.
- 24:06Speaker 2: So anyway, those were really hard for me to watch.
- 24:10Speaker 2: I feel like we're dancing around something right now.
- 24:12Speaker 1: What say it? Is it? Woman on Woman Crime? Justice
- 24:16Speaker 1: For Chris Polaha's hair. It's terrible. Chris Polaha is one
- 24:21Speaker 1: of the most attractive men on the planet. Let me
- 24:22Speaker 1: just put it out there. I don't think the actors
- 24:25Speaker 1: in these movies are responsible for their own hair and makeup.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I found it distracting. It was awful.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Somebody is mad at him? No, no, somebody messaged me
- 24:35Speaker 2: and they said I don't think you watched One.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Tree Hill, did you. No?
- 24:39Speaker 2: They said he's giving real Dan Scott vibes. So I
- 24:43Speaker 2: want you to google Dan Scott One Tree Hill and
- 24:45Speaker 2: you're gonna.
- 24:46Speaker 1: See what she's talking about. Oh that's funny, it's not real,
- 24:50Speaker 1: like center Part side sweep so bad.
- 24:54Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Why did oh he's here Ford, he's such
- 24:57Speaker 2: a sexy man.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Why did you have to make him look like that?
- 25:00Speaker 1: It was a real choice. It was a real choice. Sorry.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Something that you mentioned to earlier that Okay, I'm talking aboud.
- 25:07Speaker 2: I did this dude want Emily to officially leave her
- 25:10Speaker 2: soccer career for him?
- 25:12Speaker 1: Okay? I put out on my notes and then I
- 25:14Speaker 1: took it out. Okay. I originally said, like I wish
- 25:19Speaker 1: Emily hadn't been the one to uproot her life and
- 25:22Speaker 1: move back home. Right because going back to what the
- 25:26Speaker 1: brother said like he wanted to be a part of
- 25:28Speaker 1: the team, and going back to my comment about my
- 25:30Speaker 1: first impression, how I feel like this is an old
- 25:33Speaker 1: Hallmark trope we're dealing with, which is there's no communication.
- 25:37Speaker 1: The point at which she says like, I'm going back
- 25:39Speaker 1: to my team, and he's like, basically fu not, Well,
- 25:44Speaker 1: I really feel like there's something here. Can we have
- 25:46Speaker 1: a conversation about how this could work, Like I could
- 25:49Speaker 1: be a pr real estate developer, sports complex dude anywhere.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Okay, but he gave his ex wife so much grace
- 25:59Speaker 2: and understanding when she wanted to pursue medicine. He's like,
- 26:03Speaker 2: that's who she is. She's doing great there.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Why not the same for Emily? Well, but I don't
- 26:07Speaker 1: think that he didn't want her to pursue it. I
- 26:09Speaker 1: think she didn't want her to be gone. Well, dude,
- 26:12Speaker 1: that's not your decision.
- 26:13Speaker 2: This woman has worked her entire life to be on
- 26:17Speaker 2: a women's soccer team.
- 26:18Speaker 1: I hear you. I do hear you. And the only
- 26:21Speaker 1: reason I took like I wish Emily hadn't been the
- 26:23Speaker 1: one to uproot her life is because her family is
- 26:25Speaker 1: here and it's really important for her to be there
- 26:27Speaker 1: for Ava. But also like Ava's fifteen, she's gonna like
- 26:30Speaker 1: go to college in a couple of years. Ava has
- 26:32Speaker 1: a dad.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and that dad should not have said anything about
- 26:36Speaker 2: like you're a mother figure for it?
- 26:38Speaker 1: Well, yeah, did say like it doesn't have to be
- 26:40Speaker 1: either or like you you can do bol right, Yeah, yeah,
- 26:45Speaker 1: I hear you.
- 26:45Speaker 2: I mean, I just don't think a professional sports athlete
- 26:50Speaker 2: says to like the coach.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Yeah really, I'm not.
- 26:54Speaker 2: I'm ad living here. I don't think she said these words.
- 26:56Speaker 2: But like I my heart's not into it. Trade me
- 26:59Speaker 2: to a different team.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that's I don't think that's how UH work.
- 27:06Speaker 2: But okay, whatever, I hear you time for did you
- 27:10Speaker 2: see that you have a couple. Let me preface this
- 27:13Speaker 2: was saying, I am not talking about someone's skin here.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Okay, do you hear it? Weight? When where this is going.
- 27:21Speaker 2: At the beginning, at the top of the movie, during
- 27:24Speaker 2: the soccer scenes, the actress had a noticeable bump on
- 27:28Speaker 2: her forehead like literally look like she get her head
- 27:32Speaker 2: like yeah, like a hematoma on her forehead. And then
- 27:37Speaker 2: later on in the movie when she's like at the
- 27:39Speaker 2: soccer place again, the bump is still there. Like obviously
- 27:42Speaker 2: they shot the scenes like back to back. See that's
- 27:45Speaker 2: all I was pointing.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Out, Yeah, I probably got a big bump from taking
- 27:48Speaker 1: aheader incorrect thing like she a huge bomp. So that's what.
- 27:53Speaker 1: Let me be clear, I'm not talking about I don't
- 27:55Speaker 1: think you are. I hear you.
- 27:57Speaker 2: I'm concerned she was could contested, you know.
- 28:00Speaker 1: What I mean, and the continuity of the same. I'm
- 28:03Speaker 1: sharing something that we shared in our Facebook group, okay,
- 28:05Speaker 1: because I appreciate the zoom in from you know who
- 28:09Speaker 1: it is Facebook member Mike. In a recent movie, there
- 28:12Speaker 1: were some home listings that were laughable. Yeah. Well, they
- 28:16Speaker 1: put a little more effort into these, and he did
- 28:19Speaker 1: us the good favor of screenshotting some of them and
- 28:22Speaker 1: the descriptions. For example, one says in the backyard there
- 28:25Speaker 1: is a river that is said to hold magical properties.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Maybe not, but it showed us have a nice kitchen
- 28:30Speaker 1: or gosh, close to nice schools, but not so close
- 28:34Speaker 1: that you can hear the noise of children. And there
- 28:36Speaker 1: are no ghosts here. Yep, not ghosts at all. That's
- 28:40Speaker 1: hilarious and finally, great light if being seen as your
- 28:43Speaker 1: bag man, I just bravo. So it had fun with that. Yeah,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I love that very few people are going to ever
- 28:53Speaker 1: notice it, but we want you to know that your
- 28:55Speaker 1: work did not go unnoticed. Thank you, Mike.
- 28:57Speaker 2: I would also like to point out in that same
- 29:00Speaker 2: scene means reading a newspaper and they show a photo
- 29:04Speaker 2: of a complex that he was going to buy, and
- 29:06Speaker 2: Megan and I had to talk about this prior to recording.
- 29:10Speaker 2: The photo is an actual Toka Soccer Center, and if
- 29:14Speaker 2: you're not in like the soccer like sphere world, you're
- 29:19Speaker 2: not gonna know what Toka is. It is a training
- 29:22Speaker 2: center for soccer. So I thought so unusual that they
- 29:25Speaker 2: actually this is what he wanted to pursue, and that
- 29:28Speaker 2: they actually put a Toka Center in the photo.
- 29:32Speaker 1: Yes, someone googled like sports facility and have fun. Yeah.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Nice wild.
- 29:37Speaker 2: Here's a little complaint. IMDb titled this movie as Winning
- 29:43Speaker 2: Team when clearly their poster reads a waiting or a
- 29:48Speaker 2: winning team.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Yeah, like, why did they do that? It's so annoying.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Get it together, people, you ready to read this? Yeah,
- 29:54Speaker 1: I'm making a bad face right now.
- 29:56Speaker 2: I know.
- 29:58Speaker 1: If you say four stars, I'm going to two. Poin five.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I gave it two. Okay, I know it feels low.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I agree. It could have been really good.
- 30:08Speaker 1: It just quite wasn't. Next Week, Big Week, we have
- 30:12Speaker 1: picture of her, the official Spring and to Love kickoff
- 30:15Speaker 1: starling Tyler Hines and Ran and Fish. We have the
- 30:17Speaker 1: Way Home season finale and I'm not ready, And we
- 30:20Speaker 1: have the ride season premiere, a lot of stuff, four
- 30:24Speaker 1: brand new episodes from us, including our Long Story Short episode.
- 30:27Speaker 1: If you're not listening to that podcast, you know it's
- 30:31Speaker 1: Women's Midlife. It's a lot of fun over there.
- 30:33Speaker 2: You're gonna get the same thing you get here. We
- 30:35Speaker 2: just don't talk about Hallmark.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Yes, right, you want to hang with us for another
- 30:38Speaker 1: forty five minutes, Hop on over Long Story Short with
- 30:41Speaker 1: Megan and Wendy and we'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye. Fine,
