- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: Hey everybody, welcome to episode believe it or not, 57 of cheesy popcorn where we talk about movies, TV shows, my media entertainment basically, right Chris, and which is the last time we talk about entertainment.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_02]: Because we are entertaining guys.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: I knew you were going to do that.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_02]: This is Annavar, your co-host along with my good friend and buddy.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody, it's Chris Miles, excited to be here because I'm really interested to see where you go with the topic of the show.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm interested to see your recommendations there as well, because I don't know if you saw it or not.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: I did.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, go ahead.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: Just want to make sure, because you don't look at the spreadsheet, we've managed to establish that.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: That is a misnomer.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's not a misnomer.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: It is.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: Really?
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: Because what are the movies this week?
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: Did you do your homework?
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: I did.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: So what do you got to review for us?
- 1:19[SPEAKER_02]: We're doing previews first.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_02]: Christmas at the cringles.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: They're guys coming out.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, it's kind of early for me for a Christmas movie.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know about you, but it's that there's some kind of sinister thing behind their holidays up all year.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I haven't seen a trailer.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: So, and I don't see Tim Allen on here.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: It goes, wasn't, was Tim Allen in the original cringles.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_02]: Or was that the different movie I'm thinking about?
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what this should do.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: What the Christians would be Santa Claus.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_02]: So I guess no, it's not the Tim Allen movie.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway I haven't seen a preview for it.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: So supposedly it's a story of the Severeen's and family as they move into suburban neighborhood and discover that their new neighbors to cringles celebrate Christmas all year long.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_02]: And what initially appears to be an eccentric, but cheerful obsession becomes increasingly unsettling as Martin Julie Severson began to discover their influence over their family, ultimately uncovering something far more sinister beneath the holiday decorations.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think you're confusing that with Christmas at the cranks.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, excited.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: It was a cranks.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_02]: It was another K word though, dammit.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: You know, English is not my first language.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: K?
- 2:39[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: That is my first language.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Huh?
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: See?
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: So that's one.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: So Christmas at the cranks was the movie that you were referring to the star's Tim Allen and Charlie Curtis.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_02]: Charlie Curtis.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, Jamie Lee Curtis has a new sitcom by the world.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: It looks very funny, newlyweds.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's an NBC and then Arizona peacock the next days.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to watch the first episode tonight.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think it looks funny.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_02]: I like her.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: I've always liked her.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you're on a roll.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: So let's keep going.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_02]: So I was Christmas at the cringles.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: The next one is the only living pick pocket in New York.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: You have that with John Tutorial.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well, if you did your homework, then you would have the list.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: You can you can talk about it though.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: Now go ahead, you're on a roll.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Harry Layman played by John Tutorial.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: is an aging pick pocket who plies his trade with every diminishing results and a drastically changed New York because wallets are now stuff with credit cards and not cash which is making it harder and harder for him to make ends meet while he's caring for his disabled wife Rosie.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_02]: Now, that looks pretty good.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_02]: I would probably go see that.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's not my number one choice for upcoming movies, but that's why I'd probably go see.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_02]: I like John Tutorial.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: He's one of those kind of, he's like a basami, you know, what?
- 4:10[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, um,
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: What are you talking about Steve was shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming shaming
- 4:36[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't know if it's on Netflix anymore.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: It is on HBO Max.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have HBO Max.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have HBO Max.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know what, you have relatives.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: You can go to their house and watch it.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: Or you can steal it from them.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like the rest of the United States does.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's the way that it works.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's all good.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't steal things anymore, Chris.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: I gave that up.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: I said like the rest of the world does.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't say you.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_02]: OK. All right.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so up after that, of course, Everest, the other side, which I kind of sit here and go, we just had an Everest movie.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_02]: Right, you just saw one.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: What tensing, right.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, really what's to say all about.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: Now, of course, here's the thing.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: This is a national geographic documentary.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: And it follows an elite ski, a group of elite ski mountaineers and romantic partners.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: And they share a daunting, high-risk dream to climb the steep, direct north-face route of Mount Everest.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, the one from China, and that becomes the first successfully ski down the near vertical
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: uh hornbine uh I'm going to butcher this word a colore um so of course if there's action athleticism alpine ambition and all kinds of stuff but uh then it adds to the tragedy.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: We won't give that away, but of course it's directed by Elizabeth, Elizabeth's shop or chai, probably, Varlsay and then Jimmy Chin, the Kassage Morrison, Hillary Nelson and Mikey Shores.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: The singer?
- 6:23[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's dead.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: I thought so.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_02]: Just like Elvis.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_02]: So I drew me on that one.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, I don't, that's not on my list.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_02]: If I want a North Face jacket, I just go to Walmart, say I did climate, and where the jacket, nobody would ever know.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you can get North Face jackets, I, I believe you can.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: Walmart, yep.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think so.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_02]: So barring the fact that you can get that, the movie I'll probably go see.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's one more.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: So you clearly didn't do all your homework.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_02]: No, go ahead.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: So Netflix.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I have a different one.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: There's not enough.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: Let's not my fault.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: Go ahead.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: Because you clearly did not look at the spreadsheet.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: You're looking at something else.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_02]: I looked up the movies that were coming up this year.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: You're looking.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: I can see what you're looking at.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: And you looked up something else.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: Not what's on the spreadsheet, which is what defines what we're actually going to talk about.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: I thought this movie was really interesting.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: And again, it's probably a limited release movie.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: didn't say that but it is.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: So a couple of lives is a couple of lies, rather, is on Netflix starting this weekend.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: It features Emma Appleton, Jacob Offboro, Magnus Crepper, and a cast of so many.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's based on Stephen Anam's novel,
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: Bitet.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's a four parts psychological thriller.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a series.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to track two wealthy couples who decide to swap holiday homes between Stockholm's Archipedejo and then of course Sicily.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know why, but this
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: series we'll call it that because I think it's like a TV mini series it's it seems interesting to me maybe it's just because there's like toxic turns and spirals there's like a nightmare of mutual surveillance extreme manipulation and mind games and whatever and I don't know it kind of it kind of appeases to my sick twisted side I don't know why but so I think I might actually sit down and watch this this weekend
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: and kind of see how things go with it.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: So those are the movies slash TV shows that we're gonna talk about this week, but clearly you have another one, which is gonna break the boundaries.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: So what is it pre-teld you that you have, my friend?
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it is a limited release.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_02]: And we've been as a theater that I usually go see movies and to see if it's under, doesn't appear to be at the moment, but that could change, obviously.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: But it just looked like an interesting movie is called the Mosquito Coast.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and it is a stock mosquito bowl.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's, um, finally to take on Pearl Harbor for of America's top college football stars set their famous side to and listen to marines as they prepare for the brutal invasion of Okanawa.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: They'll play an legendary game featuring some of the greatest players in history.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: That just sounds so interesting to me.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, I think it's going to be good.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just before they release the buy-up of Jimmy Stewart, which is coming out the following week, which I'll tell you right now that's the movie I'm going to go see.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: So a limited release, which I know is not a pure release.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: Our audience, which, by the way, you've annihilated us as far as England is concerned, nobody in England will listen to us any more.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for the truth.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, it's totally true.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: We got the results in the vote.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: What happened last week?
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: Our ratings dropped because of your little shenanigans.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that was because of your people.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Vice versa, our ratings grew in Ireland.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_02]: So maybe now we're going to finish and Scott has said it was the truth really.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't know anything bad.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: I love British people.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_02]: England was in London twice and the people were lovely.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_02]: This lovely.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_02]: My whole comment had none to do with the British people per se.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: It had to do with the fact that we in this country, a lot of people here, not everybody, but a lot of people here are so fascinated by
- 10:44[SPEAKER_02]: What the royals do and I don't I just don't see it being a country that broke away from the royals That's all I said
- 10:53[SPEAKER_02]: Not I'm big things again.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_02]: Remember I said, I wept when Princess died, I too.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_02]: I was hurt, I was touched by that, but I didn't really care when Charles became king as old.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: They've digging the hole.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying, he's digging the hole.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, if you're in England, you'd listen, but your comments now now, I'll read them out loud.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: I read him in a British accent.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: Don't.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_01]: That was terrible.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: That was not.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_02]: It's terrible.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: I said it.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: Then do your whole review of Clara or Clara and the son in that terrible accent.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_02]: Which, did you see my little?
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: Did you see my little snippet that I sent to you?
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: How bad it did this weekend that it actually got removed and limited release movie that actually got removed from a bunch of theaters I think Regal was the one that completely even before like the weekend was over They stopped right exactly I don't care.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_02]: I wanted to go see it.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: Okay Now here's what I thought I thought you probably just want a general or take a eye candy That's probably what this really worked on to
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's a really interesting movie, I guess.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: We know you like John Ortega.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: I don't.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't even know who she was.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_02]: It was a little kid in the credits.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: What?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: She was.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a pretty clear claim series on Netflix called Wednesday.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: I never watched it.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, you are terrible.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_02]: Never watched it.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: But, well now you can, because you pay a dollar for it.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_02]: A month.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, eight ninety nine.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, it went up.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, Clara and the Sun is an interesting movie based on a book directed by, I'm going to say this correctly, I hope, Thai Ku, YTT, I did my homework.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a lovely movie.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_02]: It really is.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think the best word to describe it is lovely.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's emotional.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's funny.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's top-provoking.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_02]: It was nice to go see a movie that involved AI and the AI character doesn't kill everybody.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_02]: That was really nice to see, and actually it's a good positive movie, which I really like.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_02]: And the other thing I like this is that in the beginning of the movie, the other AI characters, they're really AFTER.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_02]: Artificial friends, they're not called the eye, they're called Artificial Friends, and Clara is described by the other Artificial Friends as being a little weird because some things that she does, like she talks to the sun and she does some other things, which I really like because
- 13:39[SPEAKER_02]: In light of that, she still gets bought by the young girl that she goes to live with, and she reminds me, one of my favorite scenes ever is even broken crayon still color.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: And I've always liked that saying, you know, I worked for United Circle of Pauze for years and so I saw a lot of people who were born and broken rappers by no fault of their own.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_02]: And when people look at the rappers and don't see the person that always name kind of angry because you should look at the person and not the rappers just like if you have a broken cray and you can't see why I can't color with that anymore.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: It can't still color, so it has value.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what I think this movie, the main message is, this movie is one of the main messages is that you can be a little off
- 14:24[SPEAKER_02]: and still have value.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what this, what this Clara did for this family.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_02]: Jenna or Tega played a terrific robot.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: She really did.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, she, I kept waiting for her to break into more of a human persona on screen and she really didn't.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_02]: The girl who plays the girl that buys her, Josie is Mia Tharia, I've never seen her before, I don't know if she's been in anything else, but she did a really good job.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_02]: The other actors that are just kind of there for a little bit, Steve Busemi, was in it just a small role, but Steve Busemi is always fun to watch on screen.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: The biggest surprise to me, and believe I didn't look at who was in this movie before I said I was
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: And it took me about 25 minutes to realize that the mom character was played by Amy Adams.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: I did not recognize her and I kept saying, I kept looking at the character going, who's playing her?
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: And it wasn't until there was a close up scene, you know, she has a very identifiable nose.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: And that's when it hit me, I'm like, oh my god, that's Amy Adams.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: She played the mom, it was fun, it was a fun movie, I think it's nice to see a movie that has a positive upbeat message, don't beat it, beat you over the head with it, it's subtle, but it's a good, it's a really good message.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was a good movie.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_02]: I saw that people pulled it, but I didn't know why.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: I still don't understand why.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think people should go see it.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_02]: It's a good movie.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_02]: If you just want to go be uplifted, go see this movie.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'll give it a 8.5, by the way.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_02]: I don't care who pulled it.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm giving it an 8.5.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I bent my friends in England.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I said when you said I don't care who pulled it.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly it.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: And that's it for me.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, I, on the other hand, went to go see Clayface, which
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: got make sure views across the board.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: But I think it works in much the same like the Penguin does.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't want to even put these two in the same sense other than to just say that Penguin worked well standalone because it did not include Batman and Clayface works well standalone because it also does not include Batman.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_01]: So great ways to tell the origin stories of both quote-unquote
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but other than that, that's the comparison that I'm going to draw to it because really you can't really compare these two, uh, penguins with such a great series.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't seen it, make sure you see it, uh, do yourself a favor.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: Now, clay faces directed by James Watkins and co-written, of course, by horror icon Mike Flanagan, it is a refreshing, hard, r body horror nightmare.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to put that out there and make it very clear.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: So, you
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: If that kind of stylistic horror is not your cup of tea and you don't like seeing a weird skin transformation, things on the screen, you might want to stay away from this only because of that.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: But it is a standalone villain or as a story like I said within the DC universe and it ditches a ton of traditional superhero tropes because of course it's got a
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: So let's bring it down.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: The story follows Matt Hagen, who was played by Tom Harris, or Tom Reese Harris, sorry, an Oscar named an Oscar nominated actor, of course, on the brink of Hollywood Superstardom.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: If there is even a Hollywood in Gotham City, I'm not exactly sure, but his life is shattered, of course, because he comes across a ruthless Gotham City mob boss who
- 18:20[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, as his goons pretty much carve up his face, and of course his career becomes instantly destroyed.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: So his desperate to reclaim his identity, what would anyone do, especially in Hollywood?
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: You'd go to a plastic surgeon, right?
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: No, he goes to an experimental procedure, which is led by a doctor by the name of Caitlyn
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: So, we've got the whole nanotech thing going on here in the DC universe once again.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, the treatment restores his appearance, but then, as you would expect, the cells begin to respond to his inner rage, and there's some terrifying fluid-like shapeshifting abilities that happen that include melting his flesh whenever his emotions flare.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, so it can be, you know, generally gnarly body horror, if that's not your type of thing.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to lean into a lot of practical makeup and slick CGI to portray the physical decay of a human face.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: Um, there is a rather deeply unsetting claustrophobic sequence in an airplane bathroom.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: So if claustrophobia is not your thing, you may want to say away from the movie as well.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I'm not going to give too much away, but it is kind of a standout moment in the movie.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, the cool thing though is like I said, it, uh, it does a very good job of really showing you the angry, rageful side of Clayface that a lot of us have seen portrayed in the comic books as well.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: Completely Batman-free.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: So there's that you don't have to worry about Robert Patterson making any jumps or anything like that in it A lot of people say that the beginning of the movie was pretty much Rapidly, you know
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: pretty much a rapid rush um it's got a generic revenge formula but I mean what wouldn't especially with the the whole thing that I gave you but I mean other than that I mean it's actually a decent movie um if you are looking for another
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: Good DC villain movie which features just the villain and there's no Batman and it what so ever I think it's a great origin story and it's it's highly entertaining a little squirming of course I was reminded of some sequences from David cornberg's the fly as well a very
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: noir Gotham which is pretty cool.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: Here's the interesting thing about this whole thing.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: The film is actually connected to chapter one, gods and monsters, and here's how the whole thing works.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: The film is a prequel to creature commandos.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: So for those of you that are involved in the DCU, you know about this animated series that is basically the claim the clay face in this film is the exact same character who appears as a member of the monster squad and creatures commandos.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: So there's that.
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: It was actually released before Superman and Supergirl, as far as the timeline in the DCU is in reference to, I guess, so it takes place earlier in the universe's timeline.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: And then last but not least, gone originally announced the title, Gods and Monsters, which of course, project like Superman and Supergirl representing the mythological gods, Clayface was greenlit because, well, they needed a monster.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: I am going to give it a solid eight.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: It was pretty good.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if I'd go see it again.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: I would definitely watch it again when it comes on on HBO Max or wherever it's gonna come out first.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: But I'd good watch it on the less entertaining.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: And like I said, it does some interesting things with CGI and makeup practical makeup.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: So if that's not your cup of tea, just make sure you watch out for that.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: But that's that in a nutshell.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: So there you go.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: All right, and last but not least, let's talk about the holiday that's coming up in just a couple of days.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_02]: And before Christmas, the retail store seemed different.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: Well, the one, actually the one before before Thanksgiving.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks, giving, thank you.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_02]: Which, which certain people, so I'm sorry to see Christmas trees up already.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: One of these retails get a clue for Christ.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever's going to make a buck of it.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just, I just, I just, I forgot to.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_02]: I forgot to.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there we go.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: There we go.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: Here comes the soap box.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying I'm not going to see that.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_02]: Here comes the soap box.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's a lot of people who agree with me that when you go to by Halloween stuff, you don't want to see Christmas trees.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: Here it is.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: The soap box folks.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: Halloween must seize.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: Now I went with movies.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: Or TV shows either.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: I went with movies.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_02]: Hocus focus.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: The first one.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't see the second one so I can't recommend it, but the first one, I love, I love bad middler and almost anything so, that's a good one, Beetlejuice, the role Michael Keaton was born to play unlike Batman.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: Adam's family values with Raohulia, who other than John Assen from the TV show, was the second best Gomez, I think, Gomez Adams.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_02]: Raohulia.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_02]: Rest in peace.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: And the Shining.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_02]: Jack Nicholson.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: Great movie.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then last but not least, Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: Those are my
- 24:05[SPEAKER_02]: must see.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: I know people are going to say, what about Halloween, what about Freddy Krueger, those are not my kind of movies.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not into those movies, so I'm going to give you the ones I like.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: So you mentioned a cartoon, which is not a movie.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's a TV show.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: It makes it up.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's a TV show.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's a TV movie.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: So what were your, what were your picks again?
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to make sure I got these right.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: I hope this focus.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_02]: The first one.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: Beetle juice.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: Did you see the second one?
- 24:31[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I can't recommend it.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_02]: Beetlejuice with Michael Keaton, where he should be, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none
- 24:59[SPEAKER_02]: I don't do slash your movies, I'm sorry.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and here's the funny thing.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: I thought for sure that you were gonna mention your... Mr. Drew?
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: There is one damn show that we can do that you don't mention that awful horror disgusting movie.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: God, a horror movie?
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's horrible.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: See what I did there?
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's a horror movie because it's horrible.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: Mr. McGoo?
- 25:26[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's terrible.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you crazy.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm not crazy.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_01]: You just tell him to get out of your, of what Leslie Meals.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm jealous of him.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm jealous of his naked gunboys.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not jealous of that garbage.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_02]: You like naked gun and you know, like Mr. McGooseen, you're not a terrible man.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: Not terrible.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: He loved making that movie by the way.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Of course he did.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_02]: He was here today.
- 25:46[SPEAKER_02]: He would tell you that.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure he wouldn't.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: He would.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure he wouldn't.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: I've seen him on many interviews.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_01]: I bet you have.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: What's your favorite role?
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: And he said, straight up, Mr. McGooseen.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was telling you what the man said.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you're disrespecting the dead.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not disrespecting the dead.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: You're putting words into a dead man's mouth.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_02]: I heard him say it.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, where?
- 26:09[SPEAKER_02]: On talk shows.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_01]: Which one?
- 26:11[SPEAKER_02]: Johnny Carson, you name it.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: Put up the video.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: Because it doesn't mean anything unless you can actually prove it.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_02]: I will start doing my research.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: You heard of your folks.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: He's gonna do his research.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know, do my research.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I can pull up the history on that spreadsheet to see when you actually look at it.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I told you that.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: Mm.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, so I am not going to shy away from slash or movies because to me that is what Halloween is all about, but I'm going to go a little bit different.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so here's my thing.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: Nightmare Adam Street has always been my favorite grouping of slash or movies.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: I do not like the remake at all.
- 26:48[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, nor am I a fan of Nightmare Namstree 2, Freddy's Revenge, I think it's not that great.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: Um, however the original West Craven, uh, with Johnny Depp getting sucked through a hole in his bed, I think is, is cinematic, uh, goreiness at its finest.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: I can't say enough about those movies and it's probably because of all the puns that are in them and I deeply love it, but that's another thing beside it's point.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: My favorite one would be Nightmare 9 Street 3, which I believe is called Dream Warriors.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: I also love the soundtrack to that one as well too.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that you need to see Halloween.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: I also will say that I think you need to see the renewed versions of them with the Rob Zombie versions.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: I will say.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think the his remake of Halloween I think is actually spot on and it made me cringe in the movie theaters when I want to see it because it's actually it's brutal.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's brutally violent and I'm like wow that's a thing.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_01]: Last but not least, as far as, well, I've got two movies, but as far as Slash and Movies go, you scream.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: the original screen from 1996 that basically pokes fun at all the other slash movies because i think it's such a great uh... a movie i think the screen series is good um... the last couple ones though even though general or take it is in them i'm kind of like okay now we're getting to a point where the story is starting to get really bad really fast by the screen movie i've ever seen is scary movie we're doing fun a screen
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's a comedy.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's not even a horror.
- 28:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but we didn't ask for your opinion while I'm giving mine, but thank you.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: Once again, you interject in the middle of my stuff.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_02]: Big word for you.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I will never mind.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be nice.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: I also think though you need to watch the nightmare before Christmas.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: i think that's uh... another great congress miss move it's not it's uh... it's a hollowing movie it is a it is what happens when the hollowing people celebrate christmas shut up nobody asked you for your opinion right now
- 28:57[SPEAKER_01]: You make it mean not.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_02]: I see them if I like that one.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's a great Halloween.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's a great Tim Burton movie.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: I will agree with you about Hocus Pocus and also Beatles, Yous as well too, those were on my list.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: And then I think why not give strangers things a shout as well, because it's so good.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: And then just because it's so bad and funny and whatever, you cannot not talk about the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to say Simpsons.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody has to.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: Again, nobody has to.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_01]: So those are your picks, those are my picks.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: You should do some favor from Watch Trials of Horror.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's a such a marathon of classic annual parody episodes that I just think it's a mandatory watch that they last week of.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: I've never liked the Simpsons or Family Guns.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody asked you.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_02]: Or the other one.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: No, what do you ask you?
- 29:49[SPEAKER_02]: South Central?
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: South Park.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_01]: South Park.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: South Central.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: I forgot to tell you.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't like every episode, the one character dies for a while, then they have that initially in South Park Kenny.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's not one character Kenny is the one that dies in episodes.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's the whole intimate joke if you will.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_02]: It's a good work and my co-workers are talking about your family guys, Simpsons, South Park, and what's the other one with the neighbors?
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: The guys, what's that one?
- 30:29[SPEAKER_02]: They're the South, and they talk kind of like, sorry, I can't help you here.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_02]: I can't remember the name of it, but I'm like, really, you guys are still watching cartoons?
- 30:38[SPEAKER_02]: Really?
- 30:39[SPEAKER_02]: When you could be watching
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't get it, I'm sorry, it never was my cup of tea.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: I know it was popular and I know it's done well and hey, any time somebody can do something, do it well and be successful.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: I respect the hell out of that.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_02]: I just don't like it.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_02]: I can respect stuff and not like it.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: So that's it.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's going to do it for this episode.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: Folks, what episode number is it?
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: Since you 50, 50, 70, 50.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_02]: How many times?
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, did you remember that because you were a catchup fan?
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a hinesk catchup fan.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_02]: I like hunts.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: Actually, the fir, you are a hunts lover I can tell.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: I prefer anyone.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: Anyone's not catchup.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_02]: I prefer that I'm a meat instead of a catchup or anything else.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: I bet you do.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_02]: Not in a gray poop home either.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: You got some on your shirt there.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: You must have walked under a pigeon.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_02]: I don't do that.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's the show folks.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for listening.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: So are you going to see Mike?
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: Mike, what are you going to do?
- 31:52[SPEAKER_02]: What hurts?
- 31:53[SPEAKER_02]: What are you going to do next week?
- 31:55[SPEAKER_02]: Your what hurts?
- 31:55[SPEAKER_02]: You didn't even say what you were reviewing.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_02]: I said, if I can find it, then I am a mosquito bowl.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_01]: What was it called?
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: Mosquito bowl.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: Mosquito bowl.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_02]: If I can find it.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_02]: If not, I'll let, you know.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you need to make sure that you like now the listeners are going to expect you to do it.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: So wait and go there, buddy.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I have to find where it's planned.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: And you missed you clearly don't pay attention because I said I was going to review a couple of lies.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_02]: A couple of lies.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, on Netflix.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I'll do that one with you then.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: No, do your own things.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: Stop being a follower.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: All the disciples your followers.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_02]: Nobody had burned with that.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: Seriously, another show.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying they were.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: Another soap box.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go, folks.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_02]: OK. All right, where can I, where can I find words, please?
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: You figure that out.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: And let's enter the episode.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_01]: So we don't keep our listeners hanging on while you waste time looking for your phone.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking for your phone.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm looking for your phone.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's a couple of lies, that's not mosquito ball, that's mosquito ball, it's saying it's going to with us.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: November.
- 32:56[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, though.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, end the episode, please, because nobody wants to sit here and wait for you to find whatever it is.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: I want to find while you're using the Google's.
