- 2:03Speaker 1: Greg Adler here. How do you pronounce it, Greg?
- 2:07Speaker 3: You say it, Georgia?
- 2:08Speaker 1: I think it's Waleska. Waleska, Georgia?
- 2:12Speaker 4: Isn't it?
- 2:13Speaker 1: It sounds like you did some work over on Fire
- 2:14Speaker 1: Lines or something. Well, yeah. Waleska, Georgia. Waleska, Georgia. There's
- 2:19Speaker 1: Robbins Air Force Base, also in Georgia. Well, we've got
- 2:22Speaker 1: a lot of Georgia in there. There's Victor Bigfoot. A
- 2:24Speaker 1: lot of Georgia. A lot of Georgia. That's also from Georgia.
- 2:26Speaker 1: So welcome in as we get ready. Congratulations, Milwaukee Brewers. Yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 1: You are world champions. First time ever. You have won
- 2:35Speaker 1: your first World Series, and from what I could gather,
- 2:38Speaker 1: you were the best team in baseball from the beginning
- 2:41Speaker 1: to the end. No doubt.
- 2:42Speaker 5: Boy, boy.
- 2:42Speaker 1: What a good baseball team. Yeah. So congratulations, Brewers. Won
- 2:46Speaker 1: it in five. Won it in five. Done it and
- 2:49Speaker 1: done it deliberate. Done it. Yeah. So they celebrated Milwaukee.
- 2:53Speaker 1: You know, growing up, all Milwaukee was to me was beer. Yeah.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And happy days.
- 2:58Speaker 2: And tools.
- 2:59Speaker 1: And happy days. And happy days. I thought that Milwaukee,
- 3:03Speaker 1: that all they did was beer. There were so many beers. Well,
- 3:06Speaker 1: Laverne and Shirley. Because you had old Milwaukee. You had
- 3:11Speaker 1: Milwaukee's Best. Slitz. Slitz, the famous Slitz. Was also from Milwaukee. Miller.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Miller Beer. Miller Beer.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I forgot about the Beast, Rick. Thanks for reminding me.
- 3:21Speaker 1: You don't remember Slitz?
- 3:22Speaker 2: I think I almost threw up in my mouth a
- 3:23Speaker 2: little bit.
- 3:24Speaker 1: The great Slitz. I will tell you this, Adler. You
- 3:27Speaker 1: just make a great point. I never thought about this.
- 3:29Speaker 1: As a little boy- Every man I saw with a slitz,
- 3:33Speaker 1: he was a man's man. Yeah. You didn't see no
- 3:36Speaker 1: frou-frou guy with a slitz.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Oh, but you're right about that.
- 3:40Speaker 1: You're serious.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I was actually talking about Milwaukee's Best.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Oh, no, not that one.
- 3:43Speaker 2: They used to call that the beast.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Milwaukee's Beast. Well, Milwaukee's Beast. It was the opposite of
- 3:48Speaker 1: the best, I'll just say that. If I remember Adler
- 3:50Speaker 1: as a former beer drinker, Milwaukee's Best is when the
- 3:57Speaker 1: cash flow was low.
- 3:58Speaker 2: That's false advertising.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Don't confuse it with old Milwaukee. Right. That's a little
- 4:03Speaker 1: step higher. Now, which one was the Champagne of Beers Miller? Oh,
- 4:07Speaker 1: that's Miller Classic. Highlight. Let me tell you. The Champagne
- 4:11Speaker 1: of Beers. Remember the guy when he died? The actor
- 4:15Speaker 1: did those commercials about you being too uppity. He goes, oh,
- 4:17Speaker 1: it's Miller time around here.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Oh, yes.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Oh, that's good.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Do you all want to see the moment the Brewers
- 4:22Speaker 2: became world champions for the first time ever?
- 4:25Speaker 1: Yep. Here we go. Yep. 2-1 pitch.
- 4:28Speaker 5: Palacios.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Grounds won softly. Unshakable. Unstoppable. And champions at last, the
- 4:36Speaker 1: Milwaukee Brewers. Oh, he's tearing his shirt off. There's the
- 4:43Speaker 1: MVP right there.
- 4:45Speaker 2: The catcher.
- 4:47Speaker 1: He batted over 400. Did he really?
- 4:50Speaker 7: With the Braves just for a little bit?
- 4:51Speaker 1: I don't know. He's got a brother that plays, too. Oh,
- 4:55Speaker 1: is he a twin? I don't know. Were y'all surprised
- 4:59Speaker 1: at the number of people roaring in Tampa Bay?
- 5:03Speaker 7: They haven't mentioned that in the postgame. This morning coming in,
- 5:07Speaker 7: I was listening to MLB Network just to And they
- 5:11Speaker 7: were on the field interviewing him.
- 5:12Speaker 4: Right, okay.
- 5:12Speaker 7: And they're like, it's amazing how many fans are here.
- 5:15Speaker 7: Because you could hear, it sounded like they were in Milwaukee.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I know.
- 5:17Speaker 1: That's why I just heard that. I knew that. Yeah.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I can't refer to that. These fans are unbelievable. Well,
- 5:22Speaker 1: to me, that kind of market, never won one, we're
- 5:26Speaker 1: one game away from winning one. I could see that.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Do y'all hate Tropicana Field as much as I do? Yes.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I don't like indoor baseball. I don't like Tampa Bay.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I've been there a few times. I don't like it.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I'm just saying the way it– baseball inside just doesn't
- 5:41Speaker 1: do it for me.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I lived in Tampa for like five years. It's a
- 5:42Speaker 2: great town, guys.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Sorry, buddy. It didn't make Tropicana Field any better. You're right. What,
- 5:46Speaker 1: were you five? I don't think it was born. It
- 5:49Speaker 1: was built then. It's like me pontificating about when I
- 5:53Speaker 1: grew up in Birmingham, I'll wait until six years old.
- 5:55Speaker 2: So you're saying– oh, you're talking about the sports venues,
- 5:58Speaker 2: not like the whole town in general.
- 6:00Speaker 1: No, Rick's talking about the whole town. I've never been there.
- 6:02Speaker 1: I went to a Super Bowl there. And I didn't
- 6:05Speaker 1: find Tampa Bay to be all that great.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Oh, so you are talking about the whole town.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I'm afraid I am.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Okay, that's fine.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Okay, but again, I have a very small experience there,
- 6:16Speaker 1: so that's a little shallow of me. That's okay. I
- 6:18Speaker 1: wasn't there enough.
- 6:19Speaker 2: To me, I'm like, we got SeaWorld and we got
- 6:23Speaker 2: the beach, so pretty good.
- 6:26Speaker 1: And also, I think I never was at the beach part.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I was at the bay part. And I'm never as
- 6:31Speaker 1: intrigued with the bay as I am a beach.
- 6:34Speaker 6: Sure.
- 6:34Speaker 7: I agree with you on that.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I remember being a kid moving from Tampa to San Antonio.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Then we went to Corpus Christi, the Texas' closest beach.
- 6:45Speaker 2: At that time, we were going deep sea fishing. I
- 6:47Speaker 2: was a stupid little kid all excited about going to
- 6:49Speaker 2: the beach. Have you seen the beaches in Corpus Christi?
- 6:52Speaker 6: No.
- 6:52Speaker 2: It's just rocks. you can't even there's no.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Sand it was that way in Montenegro yes Montenegro you've
- 6:59Speaker 1: got beautiful landscape you got ugly beaches you got.
- 7:02Speaker 2: No sand it's just boulders not even like rocks you
- 7:05Speaker 2: can walk.
- 7:06Speaker 1: On well that's exactly right I don't even remember you
- 7:09Speaker 1: telling that when we were on the excursion there not
- 7:12Speaker 1: one human being was able to walk down the beach
- 7:15Speaker 1: into the water without falling they couldn't do it it
- 7:18Speaker 1: was too.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Rocky I'm rock climbing now yeah so my little heart
- 7:22Speaker 2: was crushed but it's okay.
- 7:23Speaker 7: Yeah So the Brewers finished 103-59.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Wow.
- 7:29Speaker 7: And their payroll, it's good to see the mid-market teams
- 7:34Speaker 7: do well.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Well, there's a conspiracy.
- 7:35Speaker 7: They were 19th overall with 146 million payroll, but the
- 7:37Speaker 7: Rays were like, I only had 95.6 million payroll. They
- 7:46Speaker 7: were 28th out of 30 teams.
- 7:48Speaker 2: There's a conspiracy here that the smaller market, smaller budget teams,
- 7:56Speaker 2: it was planned that they made it to the World Series.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Planned.
- 7:59Speaker 2: It was planned, right.
- 8:00Speaker 1: So a stupid person would say that.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Yes, yes. Because there's these negotiations coming up. There's a big,
- 8:06Speaker 2: big negotiation.
- 8:07Speaker 1: There is, but I.
- 8:08Speaker 7: Don't know how you can plan a baseball team to
- 8:10Speaker 7: win something.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Well, that's because it's all about the dollar-dollar bills, y'all.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Okay, that's hilarious. Okay. So there's that.
- 8:17Speaker 2: There's something to think about.
- 8:18Speaker 7: Also, Jacob Mizorowski throwing like 100 and something last night
- 8:22Speaker 7: for five innings, that was planned too?
- 8:24Speaker 1: He planned that.
- 8:26Speaker 8: Okay.
- 8:26Speaker 7: Then the bullpen coming in who was worn out from
- 8:28Speaker 7: the night before and then finishing out the game, that
- 8:30Speaker 7: was planned.
- 8:31Speaker 1: That's what I think. That's not what I think. That's
- 8:34Speaker 1: what I don't think. By the way, again, when we
- 8:36Speaker 1: talk about the length of season, I know nobody wants
- 8:38Speaker 1: me to talk about that again in the game. Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I won a world championship, and I got beat 59 times.
- 8:45Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:45Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I mean, that's– I'll tell you something.
- 8:49Speaker 9: Wow.
- 8:50Speaker 1: That brings it home. It really does.
- 8:51Speaker 7: And won close to double the amount I lost.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Right. Right close. So that just tells you it is– Well,
- 8:58Speaker 1: that's a lot of games. It's a tough game. That's
- 9:00Speaker 1: a lot of games. That's a lot of games. Wow,
- 9:02Speaker 1: that's a lot of games. Congratulations, Milwaukee Brewers.
- 9:05Speaker 2: You want proof that a small market team can still
- 9:08Speaker 2: compete without a salary cap? There's your proof.
- 9:12Speaker 3: That's so good.
- 9:12Speaker 1: There it is. I wish I could see his face
- 9:14Speaker 1: while he's saying all that.
- 9:16Speaker 2: And if I go and raise my eyebrows at the
- 9:19Speaker 2: same time, you know I love you. I'm sorry. I
- 9:25Speaker 2: was changing sheets at like 2.30 this morning, so I'm
- 9:29Speaker 2: feeling a little tired.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Oh, wow. Some of the Braves fans are saying that
- 9:36Speaker 1: catcher was at the Braves briefly and they traded him.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I thought so. I thought I saw him there.
- 9:41Speaker 3: All right, we'll be back.
- 9:43Speaker 1: More of the show coming up.
- 9:44Speaker 5: This is the Rick Burgess Show.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Finishing off on World Series, even though this is not
- 9:56Speaker 1: directly tied to it, legendary host Ernie Johnson. or we
- 10:00Speaker 1: would call him at our age Ernie Johnson Jr. because
- 10:04Speaker 1: we remember his dad. Ernie Johnson has announced he's stepping
- 10:07Speaker 1: away from inside the NBA after this season. He is
- 10:12Speaker 1: 70 years old. He's had some heart issues at bypass
- 10:16Speaker 1: surgery 14 months ago. Says, I think I just need
- 10:19Speaker 1: to kind of slow down my schedule. And the bottom
- 10:22Speaker 1: line is I need to be more available to spend
- 10:24Speaker 1: more time with my family and my grandkids. His dynamic
- 10:29Speaker 1: on that show is so different than the others. It's great.
- 10:32Speaker 1: It really is. That thing's been going on for... 20
- 10:35Speaker 1: years or something.
- 10:36Speaker 7: Yeah, the way he holds it together and lets them
- 10:37Speaker 7: do their thing, but yet keeps them all in line.
- 10:40Speaker 2: He's like the straight man.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Yeah, he is. Everyone misses him.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Yes, he is.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Guys, let's talk about the game, guys.
- 10:46Speaker 1: By the way. Let's keep it.
- 10:47Speaker 5: Let's not be personal.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Check out my bow ties. Right. Oh, Ernie. Ernie, I
- 10:55Speaker 1: don't know what you had to say about that. That's terrible. Yes,
- 10:58Speaker 1: it is. Here comes Shaq. So he's going to step
- 11:00Speaker 1: away after this season.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:05Speaker 1: By the way, the NBA has announced he'll be replaced
- 11:09Speaker 1: by Pat McAfee. All right. Pat's doing everything, Rick. He's
- 11:15Speaker 1: that guy right now.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Shaq Diesel's going to miss you.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Shaq Diesel's going to miss you. So we do want
- 11:25Speaker 1: to let you know that yesterday's Wednesday Bible study is
- 11:29Speaker 1: now available. You can get it on our podcast or
- 11:32Speaker 1: YouTube channel, today, if you missed it yesterday.
- 11:36Speaker 7: Rick, I know it was your favorite team growing up
- 11:39Speaker 7: as an adult. I know you've moved on and don't
- 11:41Speaker 7: really follow it that much, but the Packers play tonight
- 11:44Speaker 7: in Thursday night football. They host the Panthers. Greg gives
- 11:48Speaker 7: it nothing because it's on Amazon Prime.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I ain't watching that. Yeah, Val Michaels and Kirk. Yeah,
- 11:54Speaker 1: I won't give anything either.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Nothing?
- 11:57Speaker 4: Nothing.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Nothing. Not one thing. No, I just don't watch the
- 12:01Speaker 1: NFL games. Really at all. I'm pretty much a playoff
- 12:06Speaker 1: Superbowl only NFL person. If I want to watch pro football,
- 12:11Speaker 1: I just watch college.
- 12:13Speaker 8: Okay.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You know, since it's pro now. Yeah. Well, you watch
- 12:17Speaker 1: so much on Saturday. Yeah. I'm burned. Yeah. And, and, and,
- 12:21Speaker 1: you know, like I said, I'm one of these people that,
- 12:24Speaker 1: you know, when I was younger, it was different. When
- 12:25Speaker 1: I was younger, I watched everything.
- 12:27Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Every sport there was. And I just kind of cooled
- 12:30Speaker 1: on it. I don't watch a lot of sports. Other
- 12:33Speaker 1: than college football, that's about it.
- 12:35Speaker 7: Jack State shut out New Mexico State last night, 24-0.
- 12:38Speaker 7: They're 4-0 in Conference USA, 6-2 overall. And then, you know,
- 12:45Speaker 7: James Madison lost their first one last week. They play
- 12:49Speaker 7: Troy tonight. And then Florida Atlantic and North Texas play.
- 12:54Speaker 7: There hasn't been, I'm talking about on a national scale,
- 12:57Speaker 7: Remember how Thursday night college football, there used to be
- 12:59Speaker 7: huge games.
- 13:00Speaker 1: It went from not huge to huge.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:02Speaker 1: And then now you're right. It's backed off a little.
- 13:04Speaker 1: And I don't know what to do. And look, no
- 13:06Speaker 1: offense to Jack State and all that. You know we
- 13:08Speaker 1: have so many personal ties there. But no matter who
- 13:10Speaker 1: it is, any team, this Tuesday, Wednesday, college football game.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Their conference.
- 13:16Speaker 7: And just as a coach trying to get your team ready,
- 13:19Speaker 7: I can't imagine that.
- 13:20Speaker 1: How do you even do that? How do you schedule practice? Oh, wow.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And then you go back to normal. Yeah. And you
- 13:27Speaker 1: got to get back in line with that.
- 13:29Speaker 6: Right.
- 13:30Speaker 1: And so also some other things that we do have
- 13:35Speaker 1: to discuss today on the program. I've been looking at
- 13:40Speaker 1: some stuff going on a little bit in the sports world.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Is this deal with CTE and NFL? Have you seen
- 13:48Speaker 1: this latest story today? That's a little concerning there. It is.
- 13:52Speaker 1: And this is something to certainly look at, but they're estimating– 75%
- 13:59Speaker 1: of the NFL players who died from 2008 to 2023
- 14:02Speaker 1: had CTE. That's a pretty high percentage. That's a, that's a,
- 14:08Speaker 1: that's a high percentage right there. Uh, so, um, my goodness, that, uh,
- 14:13Speaker 1: not again, this is, um, I, you know, I say the,
- 14:18Speaker 1: see the word estimated 75%. Um, I'd like to know
- 14:22Speaker 1: a little more what they mean by that, but, um,
- 14:25Speaker 1: But this is something to look at. And then the
- 14:28Speaker 1: question is, what do you really do about it going forward?
- 14:31Speaker 1: And they've made some changes. So certainly the concussion protocol
- 14:36Speaker 1: has changed dramatically. And that's a good thing. Everybody's wearing
- 14:40Speaker 1: them big. Cushions on the helmet. Surely we can beat that.
- 14:43Speaker 1: You're talking about the bobblehead. Yes, right. I would almost
- 14:47Speaker 1: like to take my chances with CTE. I mean, it just,
- 14:51Speaker 1: it looks so bad.
- 14:52Speaker 7: What it looks really goofy on is like a small
- 14:55Speaker 7: wide receiver.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Oh, I know. And that big old head. But I
- 14:58Speaker 1: think that we can do better than that. I'm not
- 15:01Speaker 1: sure that's really solving the problem. I think some of
- 15:04Speaker 1: the research we're doing on a normal looking helmet that
- 15:08Speaker 1: protects the The problem is, and look, I know you
- 15:12Speaker 1: all may be shocked. I'm not a brain surgeon, and
- 15:16Speaker 1: I certainly don't know a lot about this, but I
- 15:19Speaker 1: do know from people who seem to know what they're
- 15:21Speaker 1: talking about, the biggest problem is the brain getting rattled
- 15:25Speaker 1: inside the skull, which that happens when you're being slammed
- 15:29Speaker 1: to the ground. The old body head hit. That's the
- 15:33Speaker 1: toughest one. Yeah, so I don't really know what we've
- 15:36Speaker 1: done to alleviate that. Uh, cause that one, that's, that's
- 15:41Speaker 1: when you get yourself in trouble is when it bangs
- 15:43Speaker 1: around in there. Uh, so, so I don't know, we,
- 15:46Speaker 1: we will see, uh, the, you know, the technology keeps
- 15:49Speaker 1: getting better and the protocol is getting better. I think
- 15:52Speaker 1: even the protocol itself probably will diminish this number for,
- 15:58Speaker 1: for the, for the future. Like we already have made adjustments.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I don't think you're going to see these kinds of numbers.
- 16:03Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 7: And, and they even said in the article here, um, Sadly,
- 16:08Speaker 7: the diagnosis can only be found after you're deceased.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:13Speaker 7: And so there's ongoing research and studies to try to
- 16:19Speaker 7: diagnose this while you're alive. So the study doesn't address
- 16:24Speaker 7: the prevalence among college, youth football players, current NFL players,
- 16:27Speaker 7: stuff like that, because of when they find that you
- 16:32Speaker 7: have it. And so the advancements, they think, are really...
- 16:36Speaker 7: going to really hit the mark when you can test
- 16:39Speaker 7: it while you're alive.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Taking breaks after concussions, take as long as you possibly can.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Yeah, you got protocols now. You didn't have that before
- 16:48Speaker 1: once you saw how many fingers they had up.
- 16:50Speaker 5: This is the Rick Burgess Show.
- 16:52Speaker 1: You ever heard this where somebody says, ah, red states,
- 17:00Speaker 1: that's just blue states with lower taxes. That's all it is. Well,
- 17:04Speaker 1: you know, that can be a reality. You get that
- 17:06Speaker 1: shadow government, you know, in there. You get some of
- 17:08Speaker 1: them far-left NGOs in there. National associations quietly running. Got
- 17:14Speaker 1: a little bureaucracy underneath. There they are. Boards, commissions, agencies,
- 17:18Speaker 1: and they keep growing no matter who you elect. And
- 17:20Speaker 1: you're like, is there just no end to this? Well,
- 17:23Speaker 1: there can be. The State Leadership Initiative, they're going to
- 17:27Speaker 1: end all that. State Leadership partnered with Florida's DeSantis administration.
- 17:33Speaker 1: And they produced the only playbook on how to doge
- 17:35Speaker 1: your state, D-O-G-E. Now we're launching the campaign to doge
- 17:41Speaker 1: your state. And you know we've got the election coming
- 17:43Speaker 1: up Tuesday. After that, guess what? The old governing will begin.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Tell your governor you want real cuts, real efficiency, and
- 17:50Speaker 1: a government that matches the values of the people who
- 17:53Speaker 1: live there. Go to dogeyourstate.org. That's D-O-G-E-Y-O-U-R-S-T-A-T-E. Take the pledge
- 18:04Speaker 1: and help doze your state right now. So one of
- 18:12Speaker 1: the things that we always try to help people with
- 18:15Speaker 1: out there, and I think it's good advice. If people
- 18:19Speaker 1: are a little bit afraid of you or they're leery
- 18:22Speaker 1: of you, don't do anything that would play to their concerns.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Let's say that there was some fear out there of
- 18:34Speaker 1: the fat community, okay? And those of us are a
- 18:38Speaker 1: little bit heavy. We've had some bad PR. Some people
- 18:41Speaker 1: who are heavy start saying things like, if we have
- 18:45Speaker 1: our way, we'll come in to a donut shop and
- 18:48Speaker 1: we'll take every donut in there and we'll take hostages.
- 18:51Speaker 1: And as a heavy person, I'm like, I'm not really
- 18:54Speaker 1: that way. I don't really like that PR out there.
- 18:56Speaker 1: But then all of a sudden, let's say that I
- 18:58Speaker 1: come into a donut shop and I start screaming death
- 19:01Speaker 1: to all of you. Give me the donuts. People are like, well, see,
- 19:03Speaker 1: that's what we were worried about. We, we didn't like that.
- 19:06Speaker 1: So that I'd like to talk to our Muslim brothers
- 19:08Speaker 1: and sisters about this. Um, you got some bad PR
- 19:11Speaker 1: out there. Okay. Uh, you know, you've got some, some
- 19:14Speaker 1: people that are real scary and, um, then, and you
- 19:17Speaker 1: got everybody a little on edge. Okay. So this does
- 19:19Speaker 1: not help. Uh, there was a, a Florida County meeting
- 19:25Speaker 1: and in that County meeting, We've had some of this
- 19:28Speaker 1: even in our own town. The citizens of the county
- 19:32Speaker 1: were a little concerned about the potential expansion desires of
- 19:36Speaker 1: a local mosque. Made people feel a little weird. We
- 19:39Speaker 1: don't really want y'all stretching out, grabbing some ground. You know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: we've seen what's happened in other parts of the country.
- 19:45Speaker 1: You know, this little FADA thing y'all got going where
- 19:49Speaker 1: we look around. next thing we know, y'all have taken
- 19:51Speaker 1: everything over. The police can't come in here. We've seen
- 19:53Speaker 1: this happen, you know, in other countries. We've seen it
- 19:56Speaker 1: happen in Dearborn, Michigan. You know, we're just a little bit,
- 19:59Speaker 1: we're a little bit on edge about it. Okay. Well,
- 20:03Speaker 1: this is not going to help if you really want
- 20:05Speaker 1: to try to tone that down. This is the kind
- 20:08Speaker 1: of stuff that really freaks people out. Woman wearing a
- 20:11Speaker 1: burqa escorted out of the Florida county meeting because she
- 20:15Speaker 1: had a recording of the call to prayer and began
- 20:17Speaker 1: to play it right in the middle of the meeting. See,
- 20:19Speaker 1: this is not good. This is not. Now, the burqa.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Right.
- 20:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:25Speaker 1: That's the one that looks like Cousin It.
- 20:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:27Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 20:28Speaker 1: What was the thing on her head? Don't say Cousin It.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Hijab?
- 20:32Speaker 1: Right. Yeah.
- 20:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:33Speaker 9: That's.
- 20:34Speaker 1: The thing on their head. Right. This is that draped
- 20:36Speaker 1: over you. Yeah. Oh, yes.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Yeah, there it is.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Yeah, there it is right there. Right. Wow. A burka burka. Yeah.
- 20:43Speaker 1: So anyway, it was... Who went with that? And that's
- 20:45Speaker 1: the actual footage right there.
- 20:47Speaker 6: How do you.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Is it Pinellas or Pinellas County? Not sure. But anyway,
- 20:54Speaker 1: they were listening to the residents address the board about
- 20:57Speaker 1: their concern. And a woman covered head to toe, Greg,
- 20:59Speaker 1: as you mentioned, in black with only her left eye visible.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Wow.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Approached the podium. Rather than making a verbal statement, she
- 21:07Speaker 1: activated a recording of the call to prayer. Kind of
- 21:10Speaker 1: weirded everybody out. She got a dress like that.
- 21:13Speaker 7: I'm just trying to understand something, Rick. You say only
- 21:16Speaker 7: her left eye is poking out.
- 21:17Speaker 1: That's what this article says.
- 21:19Speaker 2: I see it.
- 21:20Speaker 7: So for those of you that are trying to picture this,
- 21:22Speaker 7: that just have audio, I guess think of a black sheet.
- 21:27Speaker 1: You're just throwing it over you.
- 21:28Speaker 7: And you got your left eye peeking out.
- 21:31Speaker 1: You're completely covered. That's pretty much it. Completely covered. Can't
- 21:34Speaker 1: see her at all. You've got a little peephole to
- 21:36Speaker 1: look at. That's right. It's got a mesh. Right.
- 21:38Speaker 7: What if you're right-eyed dominant? Can you let your right
- 21:40Speaker 7: eye poke out?
- 21:41Speaker 1: You can. Or is it... I don't know. Both are available.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I don't know what the Quran... I think the middle
- 21:46Speaker 1: part's just kind of moved over. Oh, I see. She
- 21:48Speaker 1: slid it over. I don't know what the Quran says
- 21:50Speaker 1: about eyes, but which one... Wow. But apparently... Hey, get
- 21:54Speaker 1: up and put that on. That's scary. That's kind of...
- 21:55Speaker 1: That's a big eye. Oh, that is.
- 21:57Speaker 2: That's just the eye just poking out there.
- 21:59Speaker 1: That's scary. See, this isn't helping. This is my point.
- 22:05Speaker 1: If you're trying to calm the community and say we're
- 22:07Speaker 1: not a threat to the community, we're nothing to be
- 22:10Speaker 1: afraid of, I'm just telling you this isn't the way
- 22:12Speaker 1: to go. I think this is the kind of stuff
- 22:15Speaker 1: that really scares people. Not a positive place. Right. This
- 22:19Speaker 1: is not the kind of PR. If you thought they
- 22:21Speaker 1: were against the expansion before that, They're going to be
- 22:24Speaker 1: really against it now. Yeah. Man, can you imagine having
- 22:27Speaker 1: to function wearing that all day?
- 22:29Speaker 6: Right.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Well, it was, you know. It's hot in there. I
- 22:33Speaker 1: remember talking to you.
- 22:35Speaker 2: How sweaty you get. Think about how sweaty you'd get
- 22:37Speaker 2: under there.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I know. It's awful. It's got to be awful. Black
- 22:40Speaker 1: draws heat. It does. Everybody knows that. Don't talk about it.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Everybody knows that. So anyway, the city council just went
- 22:48Speaker 1: with the, ma'am, you're going to have to stop this,
- 22:51Speaker 1: stop the music, stop the tape. We don't allow people
- 22:53Speaker 1: to just play recordings of anybody. Not just you. Yeah,
- 22:57Speaker 1: not just you. Nobody can come up here and, you know,
- 23:01Speaker 1: crank up funky cold Medina. You know what I mean?
- 23:04Speaker 1: That's not acceptable. When they want to address the council.
- 23:08Speaker 1: That's a great example. Pitch it.
- 23:11Speaker 7: Right.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Sir, do you have anything to say? We don't want
- 23:19Speaker 1: to hear a fucking comment. We don't have time for it. Right.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So anyway. That's not what you want. Look, I'm just
- 23:26Speaker 1: trying to give a little advice.
- 23:27Speaker 11: Right.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I know that I'm not. You know when she walked in.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Now y'all are scaring us. When she walked in, her
- 23:31Speaker 1: eyes were like. Oh, yeah. Look, let's face it. When
- 23:35Speaker 1: you're traveling. Doesn't it, sir. When you travel, you see it,
- 23:38Speaker 1: and you get concerned. I remember our favorite Cajun, John Morgan.
- 23:42Speaker 1: He said, after 9-11, he said, anybody makes a move
- 23:44Speaker 1: on a plane now? He goes, I'm watching you. You're
- 23:46Speaker 1: watching me. You know, we're a little rattled for some things. Yeah,
- 23:52Speaker 1: we are. We are. And if you're not a threat,
- 23:56Speaker 1: then more power to you. We're not going to take
- 23:58Speaker 1: over the world. We want to kill all of you.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Let me rephrase that. Not more power to you. Limited
- 24:04Speaker 1: power to you.
- 24:04Speaker 10: Yes.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Less power. Kind of stay in your own zone.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:09Speaker 1: You want to walk around with laundry all over you?
- 24:10Speaker 1: You want to worship freely? That's fine. You just can't
- 24:13Speaker 1: take us all prisoner.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:14Speaker 1: You know, and we don't want you blowing up things. Yeah.
- 24:17Speaker 1: burning things and saying scary things. That we don't want.
- 24:21Speaker 2: And we don't want to live under y'all's laws. I
- 24:25Speaker 2: love everybody, and I hope everybody comes to Christ. I
- 24:29Speaker 2: hope everybody comes to Christ, but not by force. That's
- 24:32Speaker 2: a big difference in how I kind of view things,
- 24:35Speaker 2: and maybe a lot of y'all view things. So I
- 24:38Speaker 2: really want you to find happiness and peace in Christ,
- 24:40Speaker 2: but I want you to be able to make that
- 24:42Speaker 2: decision for yourself.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Right, right. You know, to be honest— Big difference. That—
- 24:47Speaker 1: That doesn't help your cause at all. You know what
- 24:49Speaker 1: I'm talking about? About your religion. Now, you can join
- 24:52Speaker 1: it or I can chop your head off. It's not.
- 24:54Speaker 1: So when they say I join it, they really don't
- 24:55Speaker 1: mean it. They just don't want their head chopped off.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:58Speaker 1: So they never truly live it out.
- 24:59Speaker 7: As we broadcast from Memphis.
- 25:01Speaker 8: Right.
- 25:01Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? I have a feeling.
- 25:02Speaker 2: I love Memphis barbecue.
- 25:03Speaker 1: It's beautiful. Oh, he made a great decision. Well, he
- 25:05Speaker 1: did because he had a big sword at his throat.
- 25:08Speaker 1: He made a wonderful decision. Greg, I want you to
- 25:11Speaker 1: imagine me going to, say, last Sunday night. I rolled
- 25:13Speaker 1: down to do a man church event in Louisiana. And
- 25:17Speaker 1: I get down to the time of response, and I
- 25:18Speaker 1: bring out a pump shotgun. Now it's time for response.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Anybody here to follow Jason? They may go ahead and say, yeah. Yes, Rick. Yes,
- 25:28Speaker 1: we will. And I wrote back and said, you're going
- 25:30Speaker 1: to believe this. Everybody came forward. 100%. We had 100%
- 25:31Speaker 1: people come forward. Rick, how many decisions did you make?
- 25:34Speaker 1: All of them. Every one of them.
- 25:35Speaker 3: So you're right. Yeah, that's my point.
- 25:37Speaker 1: So just a little word of advice. If you don't
- 25:39Speaker 1: want people to be concerned about you, then don't do
- 25:42Speaker 1: things that would concern them. I was concerned. Very concerned.
- 25:46Speaker 6: Concerning.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Especially that weird eye.
- 25:48Speaker 7: Yeah, one eye looking out.
- 25:50Speaker 1: What was that?
- 25:50Speaker 7: I finally saw it. I couldn't find it.
- 25:52Speaker 1: I finally saw it.
- 25:52Speaker 4: There it is, yeah.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And it's so funny. People growing up in America think
- 25:56Speaker 2: Christians are the bad guys.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Isn't that something?
- 26:00Speaker 2: You haven't faced persecution.
- 26:02Speaker 4: No.
- 26:02Speaker 2: You think you have because people are like, maybe you
- 26:04Speaker 2: should go to church. You might be happier. That's not persecution.
- 26:09Speaker 1: We'll be back.
- 26:10Speaker 5: This is the Rick Burgess Show.
- 26:17Speaker 1: That are coming up. Looking forward to going to beautiful
- 26:20Speaker 1: Alex City, Alabama. That's coming up on November the 8th.
- 26:25Speaker 1: That'll be a week from Sunday. And the fellas, I'd
- 26:28Speaker 1: love to see you there. A lot of fun. We're
- 26:30Speaker 1: going to have catfish and have a little fish fry,
- 26:33Speaker 1: which I love. An old fish fry, don't you? And
- 26:36Speaker 1: so we'll have a good time. The tickets are available.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Find those at themanchurch.com under events. And that one is
- 26:43Speaker 1: a ticketed event. November 12th up in Fanger, Tennessee. You
- 26:48Speaker 1: can go up and see two of our men from
- 26:51Speaker 1: the Man Church, Kirkwood Bullis and Stephen Wright at O
- 26:54Speaker 1: Friendship Baptist Church. That's going to be a great gathering
- 26:57Speaker 1: for the men and partnering churches in the areas all
- 27:00Speaker 1: around Henderson, Tennessee. So that's also at themanchurch.com under events.
- 27:06Speaker 1: And then Sherry, ladies, has got a couple events in November.
- 27:09Speaker 1: She was talking to me about that just yesterday, and
- 27:12Speaker 1: she's looking forward to it. November the 12th. you will
- 27:16Speaker 1: see her at Valleydale Church. That's our home church there
- 27:18Speaker 1: in Birmingham, Alabama. Got a great women's group there. Got
- 27:21Speaker 1: a great facility. You guys will have a great time
- 27:24Speaker 1: on November the 12th. And then on the 29th, she'll
- 27:27Speaker 1: be at Union Hill Baptist Church. They also do the
- 27:29Speaker 1: man church strategy, by the way. Sherry told me that yesterday.
- 27:32Speaker 1: But she'll be there at Union Hill in Bessemer on
- 27:35Speaker 1: the 29th. That's under burgessministries.com. Right there under events. Yeah,
- 27:41Speaker 1: the old fish fry. You know, Greg, have you gotten
- 27:43Speaker 1: to where you can, can your stomach handle a fish
- 27:45Speaker 1: fry now?
- 27:47Speaker 6: Sweetie?
- 27:47Speaker 1: I can, but I don't need to overdo it.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Love a fish fry.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I don't need to overdo it. I have to be.
- 27:52Speaker 1: It's almost like we're not in shape for it anymore.
- 27:55Speaker 7: Right, because we don't need as much fried food.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Anything that's heavy grease. Yeah. Let me tell you something. Now,
- 27:59Speaker 1: if I dabble in it, but don't get crazy, and
- 28:02Speaker 1: I'll get crazy.
- 28:03Speaker 2: You got to do peanut oil. Friday, Friday, walk.
- 28:06Speaker 1: On the left side of the road and eat peanut oil. Yeah. The, uh,
- 28:09Speaker 1: just suggestions. Right. But how about, I can remember so
- 28:14Speaker 1: vividly and I loved it. Our daddy loved to fish
- 28:19Speaker 1: that man like his, like his daddy before him.
- 28:23Speaker 6: Oh yeah.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Could catch fish anywhere. Yeah. Okay. And as he told
- 28:27Speaker 1: us when we wouldn't, it's presentation boys. Yeah. So he
- 28:30Speaker 1: would go out and he'd get him a mess of bass, um, Whatever.
- 28:35Speaker 1: They'd come in, crappie sometimes, which that's a good eating fish.
- 28:38Speaker 6: It is.
- 28:39Speaker 1: He'd come in and he'd fillet them up. Even though
- 28:43Speaker 1: his daddy told him he was wasting meat by filleting,
- 28:45Speaker 1: he finally just pushed through that. I don't want my
- 28:48Speaker 1: kids choking on bones, Danny. You know what I mean?
- 28:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:50Speaker 1: So he'd fillet them and he'd sit out there right
- 28:52Speaker 1: outside his garage in the driveway. He'd bring that grease out.
- 28:56Speaker 1: He'd heat that grease up. Yeah. Did my daddy use
- 29:00Speaker 1: peanut oil? Probably not. Probably not. Okay. I think it
- 29:02Speaker 1: was motor oil. And he'd have his, he'd have his,
- 29:06Speaker 1: all it laid out there and he'd roll that fish
- 29:08Speaker 1: in there and he'd drop them in there. Mama would
- 29:11Speaker 1: come out with them hush puppies. Oh. Daddy cut up
- 29:13Speaker 1: in big plank hobo potatoes. Smell the whole neighborhood up.
- 29:16Speaker 1: He'd roll them in there too with some onions in there.
- 29:18Speaker 1: And here they'd come. And just sit there and fry
- 29:20Speaker 1: that fish and good night. How good was that?
- 29:25Speaker 3: Good.
- 29:25Speaker 1: So good.
- 29:26Speaker 8: Yep.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Go out there. I can still see him with his
- 29:28Speaker 1: cap on and his sunglasses, a little sweat running down
- 29:31Speaker 1: his face. Yeah. Bringing out the fish, baby. Got the
- 29:33Speaker 1: grease hot. Got the grease hot. Go out there and
- 29:35Speaker 1: tell a few, listen to daddy tell a few stories.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Big one that got away. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 29:43Speaker 12: Right.
- 29:44Speaker 1: But I did notice there was a time when I
- 29:45Speaker 1: was getting older, I thought I could run up on
- 29:47Speaker 1: the fish fry and go nuts, and I can't. Now
- 29:48Speaker 1: you get moderation, right? Yeah, because peanut oil. And that's shameful. Now,
- 29:51Speaker 1: if you use peanut oil, you can eat all you want.
- 29:53Speaker 1: But you know what? I ought to be ashamed of that.
- 29:56Speaker 1: You scared a little bit? Yeah, can't sit down and
- 29:57Speaker 1: eat fried fish. I mean, so. Yeah, it is. Well,
- 30:01Speaker 1: the problem is, though, like something like this coming up
- 30:03Speaker 1: next Sunday, I roll down there and I got something
- 30:06Speaker 1: I need they're expecting me to do. And, boy, you
- 30:10Speaker 1: miscalculate that meal. You don't need to do that. You know,
- 30:12Speaker 1: I know a lot of people who speak, they won't
- 30:14Speaker 1: eat before they speak. Right. Because they're terrified of what
- 30:16Speaker 1: might happen. Oh, that's a fact. You talking about worst
- 30:18Speaker 1: case scenario? That's not. Greg, shocker, not me. I go ahead. Well,
- 30:23Speaker 1: it's good when it's going down. I don't need this chance.
- 30:26Speaker 1: The fish fry is awesome while you're eating. Yeah. I mean,
- 30:28Speaker 1: that's the fun.
- 30:29Speaker 7: And all of a sudden, when you're on stage, you're.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Like, uh-oh.
- 30:35Speaker 2: Oh, boy.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Question.
- 30:36Speaker 2: You've got one direction you walk, and you've got fried fish.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Other direction is a seafood boil.
- 30:45Speaker 5: Which direction you'd go.
- 30:46Speaker 1: All right, what's my stomach situation? You're taking that out?
- 30:49Speaker 2: You got a free open day. You're just hanging at
- 30:51Speaker 2: your house.
- 30:51Speaker 1: I'm going with fish.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Somebody set this up in your backyard.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Going with the fish. What I prefer, not what I need, right?
- 30:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:59Speaker 1: I'm going with the fried fish. I like a good bowl.
- 31:01Speaker 2: This is a hard one.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Look at that. That's a difficult one. Sherry does a great.
- 31:06Speaker 1: low country boil. And I love every, every time we have,
- 31:10Speaker 1: but if you're.
- 31:10Speaker 7: Asking me and crawfish and all, Oh yeah.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I used to be the guy and it's changed when
- 31:14Speaker 1: I would go to a seafood restaurant. I used to
- 31:17Speaker 1: search the menu for, did they have fried fish, French
- 31:20Speaker 1: fries and hush puppies? I prefer to fish house over
- 31:24Speaker 1: a seafood restaurant.
- 31:25Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 31:26Speaker 1: You know?
- 31:26Speaker 2: I get that.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I prefer the catfish cabin over a fancy seafood place.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Are you putting anything on your.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Not anymore, because I'm not in shape for it.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Are you putting anything on your fried fish? You go
- 31:35Speaker 2: with the, what is it, tartar sauce?
- 31:37Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. I love tartar sauce. I do a combination
- 31:40Speaker 1: of tartar sauce, ketchup, and cocktail sauce. Cocktail sauce. I
- 31:42Speaker 1: mix it all together. Wow. Mix it all together. I
- 31:45Speaker 1: don't like tartar sauce. I'll run that hush puppy through it, too.
- 31:48Speaker 2: You squeeze a little lemon on there?
- 31:49Speaker 11: No.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Now you're getting crazy. No, because I do that with
- 31:51Speaker 1: grilled fish, not fried fish.
- 31:52Speaker 7: So when you have catfish, you don't use tartar sauce?
- 31:56Speaker 1: Not tartar, no.
- 31:57Speaker 6: You don't?
- 31:58Speaker 1: I'll go cocktail or ketchup. I don't like tartar sauce.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I do, a little bit. I was going to use
- 32:02Speaker 1: some sour cream today, but that didn't work out.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I left my sour cream out.
- 32:05Speaker 1: I killed it. I walked in and poor Adler. I
- 32:07Speaker 1: could tell it was him, too, because he brought in
- 32:08Speaker 1: that box of gold he's been bringing lately.
- 32:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:10Speaker 1: It's the best snack he's ever brought. Yeah. Thanks.
- 32:12Speaker 3: Well done, buddy.
- 32:13Speaker 1: And it was sitting there right beside it. It was
- 32:15Speaker 1: sour cream. I thought, God love him, he's left it
- 32:18Speaker 1: out at room temperature.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:21Speaker 2: It's sour cream. Sour cream. Well, that's over.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Yeah. But now fried fish is in every now and then.
- 32:30Speaker 1: I'm already starting to think about, and it's 10 days away,
- 32:33Speaker 1: but I'm already thinking, am I going to eat that
- 32:35Speaker 1: fried fish? You should.
- 32:39Speaker 7: And the answer is yes. And you've said this, and
- 32:42Speaker 7: I put it on the schedule, but what.
- 32:43Speaker 3: Day of the week is it again?
- 32:44Speaker 1: Sunday night. Monday morning. Well, I was just.
- 32:48Speaker 7: Thinking have it on the ride or afterwards, but then
- 32:52Speaker 7: you're hurting going to bed.
- 32:53Speaker 1: No. Wake up early morning. Hang on a minute. You're
- 32:56Speaker 1: talking about hitting that bed with night sweats?
- 32:58Speaker 2: No, can't do that.
- 32:59Speaker 1: You can't do that. Well, it's either before. That grease
- 33:01Speaker 1: starts coming out of it. It's awful.
- 33:04Speaker 6: Oh.
- 33:04Speaker 7: It's either before and then something happened or I don't know.
- 33:08Speaker 1: That's tough.
- 33:09Speaker 7: You just go on in.
- 33:09Speaker 1: My goal is I'm going to eat a little bit
- 33:12Speaker 1: of it before. I'm just going to maybe have one filet. Okay.
- 33:15Speaker 1: A couple of hush puppies. Eat one filet.
- 33:17Speaker 7: He ain't having a couple of hush puppies either.
- 33:20Speaker 1: That's right. That's your weakness. A few. He ain't got
- 33:23Speaker 1: a hush puppy. Let me tell you something. I sure
- 33:24Speaker 1: hope there's hush puppies in heaven.
- 33:26Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I like them. I even like protein balls.
- 33:28Speaker 4: Sure.
- 33:29Speaker 1: I mean, I know I'll be okay with that. That's
- 33:30Speaker 1: not what I'm going to need. But, I mean, if
- 33:32Speaker 1: it was a won't, they'd be great if they were there.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I bet Jesus makes a good one.
- 33:36Speaker 5: This is the Rick Burgess Show.
- 33:45Speaker 1: America brand new hour from the big face studios as
- 33:48Speaker 1: you heard the lineup is all here and we look
- 33:51Speaker 1: forward to being with you again two hours in now
- 33:54Speaker 1: if you missed those grab it on our podcast or
- 33:58Speaker 1: YouTube archive and catch the show on your own time
- 34:02Speaker 1: especially the parts you may have missed and we got
- 34:05Speaker 1: a new strange encounters coming out this weekend and A
- 34:09Speaker 1: brand new Bible study started yesterday in Thessalonians. That first
- 34:13Speaker 1: installment is now available on the YouTube or podcast if
- 34:16Speaker 1: you missed it. So, yeah, we were talking as we
- 34:19Speaker 1: went to the break, we were talking about eating fish,
- 34:21Speaker 1: and I kind of got into talking about how much
- 34:25Speaker 1: we loved it. And I mentioned the Jesus thing going
- 34:29Speaker 1: to the break, and somebody said that'd be a great
- 34:31Speaker 1: new T-shirt. Bet Jesus makes good hush puppies. It would be.
- 34:34Speaker 1: But when I think about that, I go back to,
- 34:36Speaker 1: so we know, right before he reconciled himself to Peter.
- 34:41Speaker 1: So we know that he's on the shore. This is post-resurrection.
- 34:47Speaker 1: He's got a fire, and they bring the fish in,
- 34:51Speaker 1: and he makes for them fish. I'd like to know
- 34:53Speaker 1: how he did it. I mean, how about this? I
- 34:56Speaker 1: know it was perfect. So I guess what was available
- 34:59Speaker 1: for him then, if you are, I mean, if you're
- 35:03Speaker 1: the one and only living God, and by the way,
- 35:05Speaker 1: he's done with, you know, suffering servant at this point.
- 35:08Speaker 1: I mean, he's resurrected Jesus. So his limitations are over, okay?
- 35:16Speaker 1: I mean, he cooked good fish. Is there any doubt
- 35:19Speaker 1: that somebody would say, hey, Jesus, great to be back
- 35:22Speaker 1: with you. You need to work on your fish recipe. No. No,
- 35:25Speaker 1: he created fish. He was the best fish ever. So
- 35:27Speaker 1: he knows all the fish thing. He's the one that
- 35:30Speaker 1: got the fish in the net again. Wonder how he
- 35:33Speaker 1: cooked it. I mean, obviously, with just fire, he's grilling
- 35:37Speaker 1: it over an open fire. Did he use any sort
- 35:41Speaker 1: of seasoning? Is the fact that he's making it perfect,
- 35:45Speaker 1: it's good just like it is? Wouldn't you like to
- 35:48Speaker 1: know that? I don't think he deep fried it. I'll
- 35:51Speaker 1: go ahead and... No. I think he just turned it
- 35:54Speaker 1: over a fire.
- 35:55Speaker 9: Right.
- 35:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 35:56Speaker 1: You think it wasn't good? But it was delicious. You
- 35:58Speaker 1: think that wasn't great fish?
- 35:59Speaker 4: No.
- 36:00Speaker 6: So.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I'm not sure when that'll come up. I mean, I've
- 36:03Speaker 1: got eternity with him. So I won't, I won't jump
- 36:06Speaker 1: on that early.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Cause that seems like.
- 36:08Speaker 5: Yeah, maybe wait on it.
- 36:08Speaker 1: He'll be like, he'll be like, of all the things
- 36:10Speaker 1: you want to say to me right now, did you
- 36:11Speaker 1: just go to the fish thing? Yeah. So I'll wait.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I mean, like after I've been there maybe a thousand
- 36:15Speaker 1: years and, and then I'll say, Hey, you know, that
- 36:17Speaker 1: way I'll be, we've been together a thousand years. Can
- 36:20Speaker 1: I ask you about the fish? How you cooked it?
- 36:23Speaker 1: But by then I bet I've had fish. He might've
- 36:24Speaker 1: already given me some. Possibly. So I don't know.
- 36:27Speaker 3: It's something to think about.
- 36:28Speaker 7: Do you think they were excited about, about eating it
- 36:31Speaker 7: when they were?
- 36:31Speaker 1: Watching him prepare it. They're starving.
- 36:34Speaker 7: It's almost like Greg looking at that Jimmy Dean right now.
- 36:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I know.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm waiting on commercial break. By the way, but
- 36:39Speaker 1: it's hot right now, so you're really in a battle,
- 36:41Speaker 1: aren't you, buddy? Go ahead, take a bite. I'm going
- 36:43Speaker 1: to have to reheat it. Go ahead, take a bite.
- 36:44Speaker 5: I'm fine.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Okay, so John29, excuse me, John219, ESV.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Rick, ESV. It's my favorite.
- 36:53Speaker 2: When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal
- 36:56Speaker 2: fire in place with fish laid out on it.
- 37:00Speaker 1: There we go.
- 37:00Speaker 2: And bread. Could that be hush puppies? Maybe.
- 37:04Speaker 1: The bread. I don't think it was.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:06Speaker 1: But you know what? He allowed hush puppies to be made.
- 37:11Speaker 1: So I don't know.
- 37:12Speaker 2: Jesus said, bring some of the fish that you have
- 37:14Speaker 2: just caught.
- 37:15Speaker 1: So in other words, he realizes I got some already
- 37:17Speaker 1: over here. By the way, where did he get those? But-
- 37:20Speaker 1: I bet he was a good fisherman. I don't think
- 37:23Speaker 1: Jesus had a hard time getting fish, apparently.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Oh, I bet he was.
- 37:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 37:25Speaker 2: His presentation was immaculate. By the way, you.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Talk about winning. He probably walked out of the water
- 37:29Speaker 1: and just laid down there by the fire and said,
- 37:31Speaker 1: I'm right here. By the way, you talk about cheating
- 37:32Speaker 1: in a bass tournament.
- 37:33Speaker 9: Right.
- 37:33Speaker 3: Have you got Jesus with you?
- 37:35Speaker 1: Oh, right. That's clearly a violation of the rules.
- 37:38Speaker 2: He just threw the nets on the other side of
- 37:40Speaker 2: the boat and they had all these fish.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Jesus can't be in your boat. He's just your document.
- 37:46Speaker 1: You know, so... So, yeah, so he had it laid
- 37:48Speaker 1: out on a charcoal fire and asked for some more.
- 37:51Speaker 1: I guess he realized, oh, wow, so everybody's going to eat.
- 37:54Speaker 1: And they probably started inviting people and all that. And
- 37:57Speaker 1: he was like, okay, give me some more. And, yeah,
- 38:00Speaker 1: on a charcoal fire. I bet it was good. Oh, yeah.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I bet it was good. And you know what? You
- 38:05Speaker 1: don't rush. You don't rush. When Jesus is cooking the fish,
- 38:08Speaker 1: you just kind of sit down. Just wait. Wait your turn.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Right.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I wonder how he kept from burning it. Well, he knew.
- 38:16Speaker 1: It's perfect. Well, yeah, of course it is. I knew
- 38:18Speaker 1: when to turn it.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Also.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Y'all ever throw... I'm sorry. Y'all ever throw meat just
- 38:22Speaker 2: straight on coals, just lay it on the ashy coals?
- 38:25Speaker 1: No.
- 38:25Speaker 2: You ever done that?
- 38:26Speaker 1: No. I was watching a survivalist just.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Do that yesterday.
- 38:29Speaker 1: Well, the word survivalist is there.
- 38:30Speaker 9: Well.
- 38:31Speaker 1: I got that soot all over. I've never had to
- 38:33Speaker 1: prepare a meal because I was going to die.
- 38:35Speaker 2: If the coals are hot enough, evidently it doesn't really
- 38:38Speaker 2: stick too much. And if the dude in the video said...
- 38:41Speaker 2: He's this big-time Alaskan... uh survivalist guy evidently it tastes
- 38:45Speaker 2: just like like you don't really even taste.
- 38:47Speaker 1: It what are you talking about you.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Don't taste it he was saying you don't taste it
- 38:51Speaker 2: don't taste the soot yeah yeah and like he was
- 38:53Speaker 2: even doing uh like he had fresh dough he was
- 38:56Speaker 2: just throwing the dough right on the coals too and
- 38:59Speaker 2: just cooking it up that's maybe that's how jesus did.
- 39:01Speaker 1: It probably by the way probably of course he wasn't
- 39:05Speaker 1: any food of course he didn't you know get his
- 39:06Speaker 1: charcoal at the grocery store.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Right you don't want charcoal right yeah you want real
- 39:12Speaker 2: lump charcoal.
- 39:12Speaker 1: No i i mean i can't look we're all starving
- 39:16Speaker 1: and we're out there.
- 39:17Speaker 7: This one here's looking he just got i'm starving it'll.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Hold let's say i got about three minutes yeah.
- 39:22Speaker 7: So counting down right so so he's looking at it
- 39:25Speaker 7: like a dog looks at his bowl he looks down
- 39:28Speaker 7: but but and and And.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Here it is again today. I'm getting this email again.
- 39:33Speaker 1: You're off camera.
- 39:33Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I'm getting this email again. We talked about it yesterday,
- 39:37Speaker 1: but I continue to get it. And I know y'all
- 39:39Speaker 1: do too. Hey, Rick, I was just wondering if you'd
- 39:42Speaker 1: heard any of the news about the doomsday preparations update.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Something along the lines of no power or use of communication.
- 39:50Speaker 1: And what other countries are saying, like prepare for 90 days,
- 39:52Speaker 1: stockpile food, cash. The other is saying three days. What
- 39:56Speaker 1: are your thoughts on it? I've overheard a few people
- 39:57Speaker 1: at work, a few online have posted about it. We
- 40:01Speaker 1: covered this yesterday. This is a story from the Pentagon
- 40:04Speaker 1: about the military. There really isn't a doomsday announcement to
- 40:10Speaker 1: citizens that something's coming. That actually isn't correct. Now, I
- 40:14Speaker 1: know it makes for great fodder online and all the–
- 40:18Speaker 1: people that love to fearmonger in order to get clicks
- 40:21Speaker 1: and views. The Pentagon said they are working a plan
- 40:27Speaker 1: to be sure the military would be able to operate
- 40:30Speaker 1: for 90 days if we were ever attacked by an
- 40:35Speaker 1: enemy and they took out the grid, the military would
- 40:39Speaker 1: still be able to defend this country on their own.
- 40:43Speaker 1: That's what the story is. And it's turned into... something's coming,
- 40:48Speaker 1: something's coming, doomsday, doomsday, get ready, doomsday.
- 40:53Speaker 7: This is classic how misinformation travels. It's called Fortress, and
- 40:57Speaker 7: we did talk about it.
- 40:58Speaker 1: We talked about it yesterday. So that's where this is
- 41:00Speaker 1: all coming from. But, no, there isn't any, hey, man,
- 41:05Speaker 1: have you heard about what's going on? Now I will
- 41:08Speaker 1: tell you this, speaking of Jesus, he's coming one day,
- 41:10Speaker 1: and I'd go ahead and prepare for that because that
- 41:13Speaker 1: is going to happen at some point. But there's not–
- 41:17Speaker 1: Are you going to die?
- 41:17Speaker 3: One or the other.
- 41:19Speaker 1: But no, that's the military talking about the new program fortress.
- 41:24Speaker 2: And they wouldn't give us a heads up. You think
- 41:27Speaker 2: they want us to be prepared?
- 41:28Speaker 1: No.
- 41:28Speaker 6: No.
- 41:30Speaker 1: That's the reason why our prior planning prevents poor performance.
- 41:32Speaker 2: They want us to run to the grocery store and
- 41:34Speaker 2: get all the toilet paper for some reason. Once the
- 41:37Speaker 2: panic sets in.
- 41:38Speaker 7: Back to Jesus preparing the fish. Do you think while
- 41:41Speaker 7: he was... was preparing it, he was nibbling a little
- 41:44Speaker 7: bit on some of the fish because a cook can't
- 41:46Speaker 7: help it.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Oh, yes. Of course. That's the reason why we do
- 41:49Speaker 1: that because he made us, so we got that from him. Right.
- 41:52Speaker 1: We'll be back. More of the show coming up right
- 41:55Speaker 1: after this.
- 41:59Speaker 5: This is the Rick Burgess Show.
- 42:07Speaker 1: So people are now all texting and whatever. And look,
- 42:11Speaker 1: you know I love Glenn. I love Glenn Beck. Oh, yeah.
- 42:14Speaker 1: I think Glenn and I don't agree on everything from
- 42:17Speaker 1: a theological standpoint, of course. But Glenn and I, we're acquaintances.
- 42:23Speaker 1: We're friendly. I love every time I've been on Glenn's show.
- 42:25Speaker 1: I've loved every time he's been on here. And I
- 42:28Speaker 1: like Glenn, which I could spend more time with Glenn.
- 42:31Speaker 1: So let me guess. You do like Glenn. How do
- 42:33Speaker 1: you feel about Glenn? Love him. But is Glenn a doomsdayer? Yes,
- 42:37Speaker 1: he is.
- 42:37Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Doesn't mean he's not our friend, but Glenn is a doomsdayer.
- 42:41Speaker 1: And everybody's like, well, Glenn Beck says that civilians need
- 42:45Speaker 1: to be ready, too. And then there's people in the
- 42:47Speaker 1: UK saying it. And then they're saying for civilians, three days.
- 42:52Speaker 1: The military is getting ready for 90 days. Well, guys,
- 42:55Speaker 1: if y'all can't survive for three days, I mean, I
- 42:56Speaker 1: got enough right now to survive for three days. I mean, okay,
- 43:00Speaker 1: you know, we freak out more about that when the
- 43:03Speaker 1: snow comes to the south because- That's about how long
- 43:05Speaker 1: it lasts. Yeah. But I don't know about any of that.
- 43:10Speaker 1: I would ask you to consider something. Hey, by the way,
- 43:13Speaker 1: have I established I like Glenn? You do. You like Glenn.
- 43:17Speaker 1: We got it. I would like for you to maybe
- 43:20Speaker 1: run a list of Glenn's other doomsday predictions, and I'd
- 43:24Speaker 1: like you to talk about how many of them happened. Now,
- 43:28Speaker 1: in general. Some folks say maybe he's due.
- 43:31Speaker 5: Right.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Well, Greg, that's true. It's kind of like the guy
- 43:34Speaker 1: keeps telling you Jesus is coming back Thursday and he
- 43:36Speaker 1: keeps missing it at some point. Uh, but, um, so
- 43:40Speaker 1: if y'all, if y'all want to get concerned about that,
- 43:45Speaker 1: and I will say this, if doomsday comes and I
- 43:48Speaker 1: didn't have my three days or my 90 days, that's
- 43:51Speaker 1: on me. Uh, and y'all can say, Hey, we try
- 43:53Speaker 1: to take, of course I won't get the message because
- 43:54Speaker 1: the grid's down. Uh, but, uh, so I'll never know,
- 43:57Speaker 1: but I mean, you know, you maybe you can find
- 43:59Speaker 1: my house and come say, told you. Right.
- 44:01Speaker 3: Uh, but, um, But.
- 44:04Speaker 1: I don't think I would get wrapped around the axle
- 44:07Speaker 1: about it. I think we should always be prepared and
- 44:11Speaker 1: make some common sense arrangements. But just easy. Easy. Easy.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Something's coming. Everybody knows it. Why would something be coming
- 44:22Speaker 1: and they not want to tell us about it? Every
- 44:25Speaker 1: time I turn on the news, they're trying to convince
- 44:27Speaker 1: me I'm going to die today over something. I think
- 44:30Speaker 1: they wouldn't be able to wait to tell me. This
- 44:32Speaker 1: is much better than what was the one that was
- 44:35Speaker 1: coming after us and then kind of disappeared. They had
- 44:37Speaker 1: the people get sick on the cruise. Some of them died. Yeah.
- 44:40Speaker 2: Contovirus or whatever it was.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Of course, it was something like that. Of course, by
- 44:42Speaker 1: the way, that was not a very good-looking cruise. It
- 44:44Speaker 1: was like somebody put you on an oil tanker to
- 44:46Speaker 1: take you on a cruise. But anyway.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Then there was that Russian.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a Russian that died. That's going to
- 44:52Speaker 1: come get us. What was it?
- 44:54Speaker 2: Not pneumonia.
- 44:55Speaker 1: Yeah, something. Yeah. It was some kind of lab or something. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 1: But I'm just going to say, I'm just going to
- 45:03Speaker 1: remind you again that fear.
- 45:06Speaker 2: It was a type of severe pneumonia.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah. So fear is a great revenuer when it
- 45:14Speaker 1: comes to our new world of streaming and all that.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Fear equals income. Just hang on. Everybody easy.
- 45:24Speaker 2: A clip that Glenn Beck put out yesterday.
- 45:27Speaker 1: Oh, here we go. Love Glenn. You like Glenn? Got
- 45:30Speaker 1: no issue with Glenn.
- 45:31Speaker 2: How do you feel about him?
- 45:32Speaker 1: What does it say on that cap in your little room? Dollywood.
- 45:35Speaker 7: Okay.
- 45:35Speaker 2: She passed away.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Right. You've given her enough tribute. Okay.
- 45:45Speaker 2: That's not even what we're talking about.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Just keep noticing.
- 45:48Speaker 7: It's right there every time you take your camera angle.
- 45:50Speaker 2: It's right.
- 45:51Speaker 1: And I keep thinking how good a Rick Burgess show
- 45:53Speaker 1: hat would look right there.
- 45:55Speaker 2: We can have both.
- 45:56Speaker 3: We can.
- 45:56Speaker 2: We can double it up.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Or we can sell that space. See what you did there.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Speaking of revenue.
- 46:02Speaker 2: In a post that he put out yesterday, the last
- 46:05Speaker 2: time I felt the urge to give a warning like
- 46:06Speaker 2: this was in 2007, right before the 2008 crash.
- 46:09Speaker 6: Here we go.
- 46:10Speaker 2: But he also adds, I hope and I pray that
- 46:13Speaker 2: I'm wrong.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Okay.
- 46:15Speaker 2: But I think a massive global conflict is coming, and
- 46:18Speaker 2: here's why. And that was a video he put out yesterday.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Well, I'm not in disagreement that we may be headed
- 46:25Speaker 1: to another world war at some point. I would agree
- 46:27Speaker 1: with that.
- 46:29Speaker 7: And we discussed it yesterday, and we were talking about
- 46:31Speaker 7: this whole fortress thing and the old– Trying to thought of, hey, man,
- 46:37Speaker 7: we're surrounded by oceans and we're fine or whatever. It's
- 46:40Speaker 7: just a new time. And so I think the military
- 46:42Speaker 7: was like, you know, we kind of need to up
- 46:44Speaker 7: our game and make sure we are ready in case
- 46:47Speaker 7: things collapse. And I think that's good. I don't think
- 46:51Speaker 7: we should all be prepared individually as best we can.
- 46:54Speaker 1: What I would do, of course, the 2008 collapse of
- 46:58Speaker 1: the economy, anybody that was watching what we were doing
- 47:00Speaker 1: in housing, there were many that were going, this is
- 47:04Speaker 1: not sustainable. Okay, because it wasn't, but you could see it,
- 47:06Speaker 1: you could feel it, and you understood it. I would
- 47:09Speaker 1: probably go back and see, what was Glenn saying on Y2K?
- 47:12Speaker 1: Does anybody remember? That's a long time ago. This feels
- 47:16Speaker 1: a little more Y2K to me. It does. I love that, too.
- 47:21Speaker 5: I love Glenn.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:24Speaker 7: You know, speaking of history.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Respect Glenn, big time.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Love Glenn's story, but he's- You love Glenn. I do,
- 47:34Speaker 1: but he's a doomsdayer. We all have doomsdayers in our lives.
- 47:37Speaker 1: And then you got people like me that probably don't
- 47:39Speaker 1: care enough. So find somebody between us. Right. You know,
- 47:42Speaker 1: so it's, you know, Glenn, you know, and once Glenn
- 47:46Speaker 1: gets going, he just slides. He does. He does. You know,
- 47:51Speaker 1: and before you know it, he's crying.
- 47:54Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 47:54Speaker 2: And, you know, real men do cry.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Yes, they do. Glenn cries too much.
- 47:59Speaker 7: The CEOs of all the AI companies, they're scaring you, too,
- 48:02Speaker 7: the way they're acting.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Like, hey, within a year, there'll be an event.
- 48:05Speaker 7: So you've got that on top of this, and it's just.
- 48:09Speaker 9: Right.
- 48:10Speaker 2: During the Y2K, Glenn Beck was a Morning Zoo-style pop
- 48:13Speaker 2: radio DJ.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Oh, Morning Zoo.
- 48:15Speaker 2: And he actually mocked the widespread panic surrounding the Y2K
- 48:18Speaker 2: computer bug.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Okay, good.
- 48:19Speaker 3: That's good.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Okay, good. Of course, that's before it became a news-talk doomsday. Wow.
- 48:24Speaker 1: It is. It's before that.
- 48:25Speaker 2: It is before that.
- 48:29Speaker 1: But, and you couldn't be on a morning zoo and
- 48:31Speaker 1: be a doomsday.
- 48:32Speaker 2: And we've got the elections Tuesday. Wednesday, probably a lot
- 48:36Speaker 2: of bombs going to go off. Just being real.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Probably right. What?
- 48:42Speaker 2: On Tuesday, we got the election.
- 48:44Speaker 1: Where are the bombs going to be? Iran. Iran.
- 48:46Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Probably a lot. Probably a whole lot.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Bada boom. Right. But, you know, Obama told us he
- 48:54Speaker 1: had all that put to bed and Trump messed it up.
- 48:56Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness.
- 48:57Speaker 1: He didn't say that. That's good, buddy. He didn't say that.
- 49:00Speaker 7: Speaking of the collapse in 2007, 2008, there's another Obama gift.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Obama did say that, of course, he fortified Iran as
- 49:10Speaker 2: the world's largest state sponsor of terror. Just yesterday, he
- 49:14Speaker 2: said Iran is in a stronger strategic position now than
- 49:18Speaker 2: before the war started. That doesn't... even make any sense.
- 49:21Speaker 1: No, I don't think so.
- 49:23Speaker 7: Y'all just remember, like Adler said, we have an election
- 49:25Speaker 7: on Tuesday, so everybody's trying.
- 49:27Speaker 1: To scare you. You get to vote.
- 49:31Speaker 13: Oh, sure, sure.
- 49:31Speaker 1: Don't vote. Don't vote.
- 49:34Speaker 9: Love, Glenn.
- 49:35Speaker 5: This is The Rick Burgess Show.
- 49:43Speaker 8: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 50:03Speaker 8: He did his Madden voice over the same clip that
- 50:06Speaker 8: we played yesterday, and it makes it come alive.
- 50:09Speaker 1: I mean, it's a game changer. And could they have
- 50:12Speaker 1: just had Nicolas Cage dress up and Caliendo do the voice?
- 50:17Speaker 7: Yeah, and we discussed that with AI and the moving
- 50:19Speaker 7: of whatever.
- 50:20Speaker 1: I think we could have done. So here's Caliendo doing
- 50:23Speaker 1: his impression of John Madden over the same movie clip.
- 50:28Speaker 1: You got your offensive guys over here. You got your
- 50:30Speaker 1: defensive guys up here.
- 50:32Speaker 2: You've got to take it away from him.
- 50:33Speaker 1: You've got to take it away from him.
- 50:34Speaker 2: And all these guys were running around in circles, apparently,
- 50:37Speaker 2: jumping for that guy, maybe that guy, that guy.
- 50:39Speaker 1: That guy.
- 50:39Speaker 14: They're still in the same place while all this stuff
- 50:41Speaker 14: is going on that doesn't really make any sense.
- 50:45Speaker 1: That's just beautiful. I mean, it's so much better.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Y'all want to hear Nick Cage again?
- 50:50Speaker 1: Now, watching it, try not to match up to his lip.
- 50:52Speaker 2: I know.
- 50:54Speaker 1: I just watched that thing he's playing with, the illustrator.
- 50:57Speaker 1: I didn't watch him.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Here's Nicolas Cage.
- 51:00Speaker 14: On in here that you don't know about. In his head,
- 51:02Speaker 14: in his head, in his head, in his head.
- 51:05Speaker 1: In their heads. They're all confused because... There you go.
- 51:09Speaker 1: By the way, that's a funny scene. That guy goes,
- 51:11Speaker 1: you got to take that away from him. And the
- 51:13Speaker 1: guy's laughing too hard at it. He said, I think
- 51:15Speaker 1: it's fantastic. Rick, can you watch this movie and not
- 51:18Speaker 1: be critical of it? No, you're Burgesses.
- 51:21Speaker 2: You can't do that.
- 51:22Speaker 1: You don't have the ability to do that. Can you
- 51:24Speaker 1: let that go? You think you can get past it?
- 51:27Speaker 1: With Nicolas Cage, you're talking about? You think you can
- 51:28Speaker 1: get past it? Yeah, probably. You know, if somebody's doing
- 51:31Speaker 1: a historical figure, but this is somebody that we grew
- 51:35Speaker 1: up with. I know. In the mainstream. You're right. It
- 51:37Speaker 1: makes it different. I'll tell you this, Rick. It's going
- 51:39Speaker 1: to bother me at first.
- 51:41Speaker 7: It's going to bother me at first, and then I'll
- 51:43Speaker 7: get used to it.
- 51:44Speaker 1: And I'll understand. Yeah, but he also has a lot
- 51:47Speaker 1: of that Nicolas Cage sound in there. And I know
- 51:49Speaker 1: he can't complain. Oh, no, he's just talking as himself.
- 51:51Speaker 1: I know. He's right. I'll tell you a little bit
- 51:53Speaker 1: about him. To make Greg's point, Greg, no one was
- 51:56Speaker 1: alive to walk up and say, I saw Paul Giamatti
- 51:59Speaker 1: as John Adams. I'm sorry, it didn't sound like him.
- 52:01Speaker 1: That's right. No one was here to tell us that.
- 52:03Speaker 1: We know what John Adams sounded like. We know how
- 52:06Speaker 1: he looked, how he moved. We think Giamatti. We're like, man,
- 52:10Speaker 1: I guess that may have been how John Adams really was.
- 52:11Speaker 1: In our minds. We don't know. We don't. So we know.
- 52:14Speaker 1: But we know this. Oh, we know it well. We
- 52:16Speaker 1: know it, Greg.
- 52:17Speaker 3: We know it well.
- 52:17Speaker 7: We know from the Irwin brothers putting movies together and
- 52:21Speaker 7: everything else, we know all the testing and the screening
- 52:25Speaker 7: and all that that goes on behind the scenes.
- 52:27Speaker 10: Right?
- 52:28Speaker 7: And things that we've been involved with. So there was
- 52:31Speaker 7: a ton of screening about this movie. There was a
- 52:34Speaker 7: ton of Hey, come and watch it.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Let me get your reaction.
- 52:37Speaker 7: And apparently the majority said, I'm okay with it. It's
- 52:42Speaker 7: not bothering me.
- 52:43Speaker 1: They didn't ask Greg to come. Because if not, why
- 52:46Speaker 1: would they just push forward and do it? You're right.
- 52:48Speaker 1: I'm going to watch it.
- 52:51Speaker 7: I'm not trying to say, you know what I'm saying,
- 52:54Speaker 7: that he shouldn't sound like John Madden. I'm just saying
- 52:57Speaker 7: apparently in their screening process, It wasn't the bigger deal
- 53:01Speaker 7: that y'all may be thinking.
- 53:02Speaker 1: By the way, somebody on Text Nation, this is why
- 53:04Speaker 1: I love Text Nation, he does sound like Peyton Manning.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Sounds like Peyton Manning doing Centos. Yeah, he said it
- 53:10Speaker 1: sounds more like Peyton Manning than it does John Madden.
- 53:12Speaker 7: You really like it, don't you?
- 53:14Speaker 1: I said, but he does.
- 53:15Speaker 9: Right.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Thank Peyton Manning right now. Shut your eyes.
- 53:19Speaker 15: Defense right you got to take it away from him
- 53:21Speaker 15: you got to take it away from him.
- 53:23Speaker 14: On in here that you don't know about in his
- 53:25Speaker 14: head and his head and his head and his head
- 53:27Speaker 14: and their heads they're all confused because what they're doing who's.
- 53:31Speaker 1: Gonna i can hear by any in there so i
- 53:37Speaker 1: gotta get past it i guess i don't know that
- 53:39Speaker 1: i can go of course i guess you're gary buzy
- 53:41Speaker 1: bear bryant i know did they did they screen that
- 53:43Speaker 1: one speedy in your little scenario And everybody thought Gary
- 53:46Speaker 1: Busey was a great Bear Bryant. Don't assume I have
- 53:48Speaker 1: a problem with it, Rick. But boy, when it hit
- 53:50Speaker 1: the cinema, everybody hated it. I know. I'll give you that.
- 53:53Speaker 7: I don't know what happened there. Like Bono said yesterday
- 53:56Speaker 7: with you two, every now and then you have.
- 53:57Speaker 1: Something that don't hit.
- 53:59Speaker 7: But I guess I'm just saying they had to believe
- 54:02Speaker 7: it was okay through their testing.
- 54:04Speaker 1: I don't know why they allowed it to happen. I
- 54:06Speaker 1: have no idea. I'm going to use one of your
- 54:08Speaker 1: lines about you, and this is a compliment. I'm jealous
- 54:11Speaker 1: sometimes of how you see the world. Yeah. I wish
- 54:13Speaker 1: I could. What do you mean? Well, it just seems
- 54:15Speaker 1: like you have a great positive, great heart. Well, no.
- 54:19Speaker 1: You're trying to, do you think the best about everything?
- 54:21Speaker 1: Sometimes that gets me into trouble. I wish I could
- 54:22Speaker 1: do that more. Maybe a little, sometimes just a little.
- 54:25Speaker 1: He wants it to all work out, man.
- 54:27Speaker 6: He does.
- 54:28Speaker 1: He does. I do. I mean, you know, but I
- 54:30Speaker 1: was just saying. He wants the people's family to come
- 54:32Speaker 1: forward and go, this is awesome. Sure.
- 54:34Speaker 3: Well, no.
- 54:35Speaker 7: I mean, and I do see, you know. National treasures
- 54:40Speaker 7: when I see him talking.
- 54:41Speaker 1: Right. I don't see him adding.
- 54:43Speaker 3: I know. No, you don't.
- 54:44Speaker 7: But I guess maybe I'm giving everybody the benefit of
- 54:49Speaker 7: the doubt that surely there was research into this, or
- 54:51Speaker 7: how did they let it happen?
- 54:52Speaker 1: Well, yeah, nobody goes and invests that kind of money.
- 54:54Speaker 7: Apparently, you watch the movie, and it's not that bad.
- 54:58Speaker 1: I don't know. All right, so. It's not that bad.
- 55:02Speaker 1: We go now to, I'm talking about years ago. When
- 55:07Speaker 1: my older kids played youth sports, I was already screaming this.
- 55:10Speaker 1: If we want children to enjoy youth sports, we must
- 55:13Speaker 1: ban parents. Okay? And it would be a wonderful thing
- 55:17Speaker 1: if parents couldn't go. So here we are, 4A and
- 55:20Speaker 1: B there, Adler. A brawl at a, get all the
- 55:24Speaker 1: details here, a girls' youth softball game in Texas has
- 55:30Speaker 1: left a father hospitalized with serious injuries.
- 55:33Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Including a fractured skull. A husband and wife are now
- 55:38Speaker 1: facing criminal charges in connection with the fight. CBS News
- 55:43Speaker 1: has a little one-minute clip from them, and then we'll
- 55:46Speaker 1: watch the raw footage of the fight.
- 55:49Speaker 12: A violent altercation between grown-ups at a girls' softball game.
- 55:52Speaker 12: It began with a dispute over sportsmanship and ended with
- 55:56Speaker 12: one man in the hospital and a husband and wife
- 55:58Speaker 12: facing criminal charges. We do warn you, this video is
- 56:02Speaker 12: very ugly.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Here's CBS's Jason Allen. It's ugly, guys.
- 56:05Speaker 11: While 12-year-old girls played softball Saturday night at this field
- 56:08Speaker 11: in Sugar Land, Texas, a dispute between adults behind home
- 56:12Speaker 11: plate suddenly turned violent. The video shows a metal water
- 56:17Speaker 11: bottle to the head, knocking a man to the ground.
- 56:20Speaker 11: Then a scuffle breaks out with an older man in
- 56:21Speaker 11: a blue shirt trying to take down the initial attacker.
- 56:25Speaker 11: Then his wife jumps in, throwing punches, all while the
- 56:27Speaker 11: first man hit was lying on the ground, motionless.
- 56:31Speaker 1: Some thought he was dead. Some thought he was suffering
- 56:34Speaker 1: a seizure. but it's clearly the result of the blow
- 56:38Speaker 1: to the head.
- 56:39Speaker 2: And he's lucky to be alive.
- 56:40Speaker 11: Stephen Shellist is representing the man who was hit with
- 56:43Speaker 11: the water bottle. He remains hospitalized with multiple brain bleeds
- 56:46Speaker 11: and a fractured skull.
- 56:48Speaker 1: No, not the brain bleed.
- 56:48Speaker 11: Sugar Land police arrested Kyarius Hall on a charge of
- 56:51Speaker 11: misdemeanor assault. His wife, Jasmine, an assistant school principal who's
- 56:54Speaker 11: now resigned, faces the same charge.
- 56:58Speaker 7: And by the way, they had matching shirts on, too.
- 57:01Speaker 1: No offense, Larry and Carolyn. By the way, when you're
- 57:03Speaker 1: knocked unconscious by a matching shirt couple. Yeah.
- 57:07Speaker 7: But how about the guy looked like he was just talking.
- 57:09Speaker 7: All of a sudden, he just hit them with that.
- 57:11Speaker 7: And he had that old stiff arm. He was so awful.
- 57:14Speaker 1: It was all scary. So it's obviously something about the game. Yeah.
- 57:17Speaker 1: And we think that is bad enough. I got done
- 57:19Speaker 1: so wrong with this bad call that I've got to
- 57:21Speaker 1: take this cup and light that knot up. Supposedly, that's
- 57:25Speaker 1: how you described it?
- 57:26Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 57:26Speaker 2: Pink shirt.
- 57:27Speaker 1: Lit it up.
- 57:28Speaker 2: Pink Shirt here and his wife were heckling right before
- 57:35Speaker 2: a pitch or like cheering right.
- 57:37Speaker 1: Before the pitch occurred. To try to make them, yeah.
- 57:39Speaker 2: To try to, you know, whatever.
- 57:40Speaker 1: They were trying to rattle the 12-year-old pitcher or batter.
- 57:42Speaker 1: Or the batter. Are they behind batter probably? The catcher
- 57:45Speaker 1: at the fence or where were they? Yeah, sounds like it.
- 57:46Speaker 2: I don't know where they were.
- 57:47Speaker 1: I'm after the Magnet like Adler was there. Somebody called
- 57:49Speaker 1: him out. Let me be clear. Let me be clear.
- 57:51Speaker 1: I don't think anything warrants this, so I'm not, no
- 57:54Speaker 1: way is this justified. But also I have to add,
- 57:58Speaker 1: The guy who got hit has his hand up like, hey, man,
- 58:00Speaker 1: I don't want to. Yeah, he's just trying to talk.
- 58:03Speaker 1: His hand is like, hey. He's in a defensive position,
- 58:06Speaker 1: not an offensive position.
- 58:08Speaker 9: Right.
- 58:08Speaker 1: He doesn't seem a threat to this guy at all
- 58:12Speaker 1: because he seems very passive. Now, I don't know what
- 58:14Speaker 1: he said, even though that doesn't justify.
- 58:17Speaker 7: Well, it looks like there's witnesses within earshot. Right.
- 58:20Speaker 1: I'll tell you, blue shirt, beard, white hat does a
- 58:22Speaker 1: pretty good job.
- 58:23Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, he is way older, and he's like, okay,
- 58:26Speaker 7: that's unacceptable.
- 58:28Speaker 2: We broke his hip in that process.
- 58:30Speaker 1: Yeah, because he fell into the bushes. He was aggressive.
- 58:33Speaker 1: He did.
- 58:34Speaker 7: So we got a broke hip and brain bleed just
- 58:37Speaker 7: because somebody couldn't hold it together.
- 58:39Speaker 1: It's because the man wears a pink shirt. Don't mean
- 58:40Speaker 1: he can't fight.
- 58:41Speaker 2: That's right.
- 58:41Speaker 1: Especially if he's holding a weapon. He had a metal weapon.
- 58:45Speaker 1: Metal water bottle.
- 58:46Speaker 7: Look at him holding it.
- 58:47Speaker 1: That's one big one.
- 58:48Speaker 2: It's supposedly a dumbbell.
- 58:50Speaker 1: A dumbbell. A dumbbell, yeah. By the way, there's a
- 58:53Speaker 1: little girl right there. In the court case, it does
- 58:56Speaker 1: not look good that the guy had his hands up like, hey, man,
- 58:59Speaker 1: no problem.
- 59:00Speaker 3: Yes.
- 59:00Speaker 1: And then he takes one to the face.
- 59:02Speaker 2: And that water bottle supposedly was also full. And it's ugly, guys.
- 59:08Speaker 1: So, disputing.
- 59:10Speaker 2: Talking, talking, pink shirt behind his hands. Other guy puts
- 59:13Speaker 2: his hand up like, hey, man, it's cool. Be cool.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Everything's cool. And then the sucker punch with the water bottle.
- 59:17Speaker 1: Bam.
- 59:17Speaker 5: Bam.
- 59:18Speaker 2: He goes down.
- 59:19Speaker 1: I didn't realize he got old man blue shirt with
- 59:22Speaker 1: a water bottle one time, too. Yeah. You got to
- 59:24Speaker 1: give old man blue shirt. Right there. See him hit that? Yep,
- 59:27Speaker 1: that's it. Let me tell you, old man blue shirt
- 59:29Speaker 1: went pretty hard. And now there's nothing better than a
- 59:33Speaker 1: date out on the town with matching shirts when you
- 59:35Speaker 1: start beating up an old man together. Right. It's all important,
- 59:39Speaker 1: softball game. Yeah, this is 12-year-old softball girls, by the way.
- 59:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 59:43Speaker 1: Yeah. He hit first.
- 59:45Speaker 2: It's on camera.
- 59:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it is.
- 59:47Speaker 2: And he did hit first, and he initiated this. I
- 59:50Speaker 2: don't understand how that's just a, I guess, just a misdemeanor.
- 59:53Speaker 1: I know, a misdemeanor. I'm not a legal person, but
- 59:57Speaker 1: do you think that can go up as the injuries
- 59:59Speaker 1: worsen in the hospital? I don't know. Right. But a
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: brain bleed, that's death if they can't stop it. You're right.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: Buddy on the ground was doing the fencing position. And
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: it's so easy to die, y'all. Your head hits that concrete.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Happens all the time. My goodness, man. We'll be right back.
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: This is The Rick Burgess Show.
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: The, um.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: And we're not legal minds, but we have a lot
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: of legal minds in the office. I mean, in the audience,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: I should say, and sometimes in the office for meetings.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: But they're saying kind of what I thought, and it
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: was just a theory. It says they're just waiting on
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: the police to get all the medical records to find
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: out the severity of the injuries. And then, yes, the
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: charges will increase based on the severity of the injury.
- 1:00:57Speaker 7: On our walk to the restroom just now, Greg and
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: I were talking, and he had really– A perfect statement
- 1:01:05Speaker 7: when it came to the crazies.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Basically, when we started, kids started being raised crazy,
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: do what you want. They have all now grown up,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: and this is their kids. Wow, Greg. So we got
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: the crazy boys. Now they're adults. When we started to
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: let kids just run crazy, do what they want to do.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: So you're saying- They've grown up now, and this is
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: their offspring we're dealing with. Generational crazy. Yeah. So these
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: kids were raised with no boundaries and they ran. Now
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: they're the parents. They ran wild and became, you know,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: a menace to society and the type of children that
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: you hope would never come to your house. And now
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: they are adults.
- 1:01:40Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: That's, yeah, Greg, well said. Advice there.
- 1:01:43Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: And now they're going to games and they're now adults.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: And punching people over argument. Because when you're a little
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: boy and you pitch a fit and you throw something.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: But now you're a grown man with a full water
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: bottle and you're hitting people in the head and giving
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: them brain bleach.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: Present fathers in the household are so important. And I
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: know you guys have seen it in your coaching, all
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: the kids that you guys have coached. And you got
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: a kid and you're just like, wow, I can tell
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: that you don't have a father figure that is influential
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: in your life. It's sad, but you can see it
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: in their behavior and their reaction and how they act.
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: Yeah, and then you have the wife in this incident.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Yeah, she jumped on in there.
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: She's in education, assistant principal.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: She is. Or was. Or was, yeah.
- 1:02:31Speaker 7: And no telling what he was doing. They're going to
- 1:02:32Speaker 7: lose everything.
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I'm sure.
- 1:02:34Speaker 7: Hope it was worth it. And all of that because
- 1:02:38Speaker 7: they couldn't hold together over 12-year-old girls softball.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Yeah, isn't that important? We'll cheer when we won. I'm
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: to the point. You know, I would hit somebody like
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: that if they were attacking me.
- 1:02:47Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: You have no choice. I mean, the man was, he
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: wasn't doing anything. No. He was talking to him. Had
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: his hand up. Like, you know, he's not threatening. And
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: all of a sudden, he cold cocked him.
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: Down goes Frazier.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: With a water bottle.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: Not even a punch. With a water bottle.
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: And a nurse texted, Brainbleed, that can impact your life
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: for the rest of your life.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: You're right.
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: One fall, and that.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Can be life-changing.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: That's why we don't fight. Don't fight. Just don't fight.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Yeah, we're really comfortable. If not, get them on the ground. Right, Adler?
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Get them in the position.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: And if you are dealing with a crazy person, the
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: dumbest thing you can do, and the dumbest thing I
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: see is people in each other's faces, screaming in each
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: other's faces. Get out of range. If you really do
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: have to address a person, be 10 feet from them.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: We can talk from 10 feet away. I'm not going
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: to be in your range if you're able to strike me.
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: I'm not going to be there. That's the danger zone.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: Ooh, got a buffer zone. Got a hard base. Everybody
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: that wears a gi knows that.
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: What if somebody's walking? You learn so you don't have
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: to fight, what Mr. Miyagi said. That's right. What if
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: you're walking on the right side of the road and
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: real close to somebody arguing?
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Well, if you're walking on the right side of the road,
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: you're on the wrong side, and the person that's walking
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: on the left, you're going to crash, then you should
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: fight in that situation.
- 1:04:05Speaker 9: Basically.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: So don't miss. This was all about 12 year old girls, softball,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: important stuff like that.
- 1:04:13Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: I mean, we're talking about things. I mean, that's, I mean,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: I mean, look, I understand. I got to tell you
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: the record going.
- 1:04:20Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: I think that, um, I don't know, cause you were
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: kind of in a, in a, in a rough place
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: because there was a time when, if you had these,
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: you know, aimless, no, no discipline people. that people in
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: the community, like men in the community could weigh in
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: and could, could do things that maybe a father who
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: is not there are sometimes as bad a father who
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: is physically there, but he isn't present and he isn't,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: he's not authoritative and he doesn't do anything. Um, but
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: you do that now and then people will sue you for,
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: or go after you for trying to even do the
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: right thing. You know, like say you were somebody, I
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: think people sometimes are not wanting to get involved in
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: this kind of stuff. Because they're afraid if they get
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: in there breaking it up or they discipline somebody's kid
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: or correct somebody's kid, they're going to get in trouble.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: So it's almost like the people who would like to
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: be peacemakers are afraid that they're the ones that are
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: going to end up getting in trouble in all this.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: It's just, we've developed a tough atmosphere out there right now.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: It's tough.
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: Very tough.
- 1:05:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: And I think one of the things, like you were
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: saying with coaching, One thing you can do, and you
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: will get some heat, is, and I know we've all
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: had to do it, is that sometimes you can say, well,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: now that I have been allowed to be coach, well,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: then when they're on the field with me, I can
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: give this child an atmosphere that maybe daddy or mama
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: are not giving them. But while they're out here, not
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: anything to hurt them or abuse them or anything like that.
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: I'm just talking about structure and discipline and correction and
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: And respect for authority. If you get put in one
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: of those roles, take advantage of it. Because a lot
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: of times you're desperately needed. And do it. Because when
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: they step on that field, they've allowed you some authority.
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: So be a positive reflection of authority in their lives.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: And don't let them just do whatever they want to do.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: And make them pay consequences. And make them say yes, sir.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: And make them be respectful. You know, don't make them
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: be a good teammate. Although, you know, that's, I mean,
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: you got a shot to do it when you're in
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: that role.
- 1:06:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: So yeah, that's, that's one can't, can't even, and then
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: if they don't like it, they think they couldn't go home, but,
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: but as long as they're out there, you are in charge. Yeah.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: So yeah, that's important. Yeah. So, so take, take advantage
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: of that. And, um, the, um, I had an opportunity
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: one time in a situation like that, that was really,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: really uncomfortable because the, um, the dad was trying to
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: help with the team. And he he had a spoiled
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: son that didn't respect authority. And that was uncomfortable because,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: you know, I probably allowed him. I probably shouldn't had
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: him out there, but I didn't know. And and the
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: son was being disrespectful to the dad in front of
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: all of us. And so what I did, though, just
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: think about it, what I did, because it's not in
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: my business to try to be the kid's dad. So
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: what I did is I said, well, I'll just be
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: the kid's coach. Back to what I just said. So
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: I just said, let me be clear what I'm doing
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: right now. I'm now disciplining you as your coach. But
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: what you and your dad have off the field, that
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: ain't none of my business. But while you're out here,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: I'm not even going to let you talk to your
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: daddy that way because he's helping coach. So you're not
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: going to talk to him like he may not correct you,
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: but I'm going to. You're not going to talk to
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: him like that here. And you'll be punished for talking
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: to him that way here. And you will respect the
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: coach authority out here whether you respect your daddy or not. Yeah.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: And now that was uncomfortable. But it had to be done.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: And I had a talk with the dad. And I
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: said the same thing. What you do when y'all get
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: in that truck and leave is up to you. But
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: I'm just telling you, you're not doing him any favors.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: But out here, he's not going out like that. So, see,
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: you have to try and find ways to see if
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: you can't. Make it work. You know, those of us,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: like you said, Greg, that weren't raised like that, we
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: got to help those that were. Yeah. When we get
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: a chance in the right way. Sure. And coaching is
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: one of those opportunities.
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: Teaching.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: Teaching is one. Oh, yeah. Top of the hour. We'll
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: be back.
- 1:08:39Speaker 5: This is the Rick Burgess Show.

- 1:09:03Speaker 1: you know, decide for you what's happening in your state.

- 1:10:23Speaker 1: up this hour. As I said, we will get in
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: unscreened phone calls today. We'll try to do that. Yesterday's Wednesday,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Bible Study Archives available. Another strange encounter is being recorded today.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: So as we start the hour from Tex Nation, I
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: heard the last topic. I'm a young dad. How do
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: I avoid failing my son? And be the authoritative figure. Well,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: that's a great question. And have the kind of confidence
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: to actually ask that from some older fellas. You've got
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: some wisdom for a young man. Don't overthink it. It's
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: not all that complicated. It's not easy, I will tell
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: you that. Because good parenting is actually exhausting. It really is. But, boy,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: it's worth it. It really is worth it. So simple,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: and you guys can chime in. What we mean by
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: that is to have structure in the child's life, have
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: barriers just like God has for us, but always communicating
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: why you're doing it. The barriers that we have here,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: the do's and the don'ts, these are also an expression
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: of my love for you as your father. And if
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: you have a good relationship, and hopefully you're married to
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: their mom, and you can talk about both of you
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: being that way, but you need to be a figure
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: in that home that teaches the child to respect authority,
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: to pay consequences when they don't, to have a healthy
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: fear of authority, meaning nothing out of control, so you
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: don't harm the child. Even when you discipline the child,
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: you're explaining that this is another expression of your love.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: It's something that you don't enjoy doing, but you're doing
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: it for their benefit. All these boundaries, just like God.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: I remember Thinking God's boundaries, I didn't understand that they
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: were actually a benefit. They were a blessing. I didn't
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: understand that. I thought, that's a killjoy. I'm going to
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: do what I want to do. And then, of course,
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: you end up paying the consequences for that. You go, oh,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: so his barrier was actually the right thing to do.
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: He was looking after me. And so you want to
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: have that. And I think when you get ready for discipline,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: stay consistent. Make it something that makes a difference. It's
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: actually something they don't enjoy. Um, you know, stay in control,
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: never do anything out of anger, do it always out
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: of love. Um, and you want to be, uh, uh,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: you know, always consistent and you want it to be severe.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: You want it to be consistent and you want it
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: to be immediate. Um, this thing, I'm going to count
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: to 10, baby. If you don't know that, don't do that. Okay.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: If they step out of line, you correct it and
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: you correct it immediately. There's no counting. Okay. Um, and
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: you know, so, so that, that's what I would say. Just,
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: just structure. Always communicating everything you're doing, you're doing out
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: of love. And anytime they disrespect authority, they pay a
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: price for it and communicate that barriers are a blessing.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: They're not a killjoy and stay on top of it. Yeah.
- 1:13:18Speaker 6: I agree.
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: And correct the little things, not just the big ones. Yeah.
- 1:13:21Speaker 7: And as they grow up, I always tell them that
- 1:13:23Speaker 7: there's nothing too difficult about that you can't come and
- 1:13:26Speaker 7: talk to me about. That's right.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Keep that line of communication.
- 1:13:30Speaker 7: There might be consequences for what has happened, but there's
- 1:13:33Speaker 7: nothing too heavy or too difficult we can't work out.
- 1:13:37Speaker 7: So just come talk to us about it. If you're
- 1:13:40Speaker 7: struggling with something, if something's going on.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: That's a great point too, man.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: I remember my mom communicating it so wonderful one time.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: She said, understand that your behavior right now, it does
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: not keep me from loving you. So I will always
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: love you, but right now is something– that I don't
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: approve of. I will not always approve of you. I'll
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: always love you, but I won't always approve of what
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: you've done, and I don't approve of this. So that's
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: got to be the balance.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and you mentioned being consistent and being right away,
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: not I'm going to count to 10 if you don't
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: do this. And something that I work on all the
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: time is when my son is agitating me, And I
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: will start my sentence at like an eight. If you don't,
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: I'll stop myself and he'll see me stop myself and
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: he'll see me take a deep breath. And I'll say,
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: if you don't go to your room and put on
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: your pajamas right now, you're not going to have any
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: more toys. You know, it's just like, I'm going to
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: tell you the truth about what this is. I'm keeping
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: my cool, but you have a choice. This is it
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: right here in this moment. It's not in 10 seconds.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: It's not on your time. This is on my time.
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: You're on my time, son. But even when my son
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: sees me being upset and he sees me take a breath,
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: he listens to me more. And he's like, all right,
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: dad's mad, but he's trying not to be mad. And
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: I appreciate him doing that. And I'm going to do
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: what he says.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: I don't know if that's made any sense. No, no,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: it's good. It's the easy or hard way. Yes. We
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: have an easy way or a hard way.
- 1:15:09Speaker 15: Yes.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: Let me explain to you the easy way.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: You do what I say. We play. We have a
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: good time. Hard way is? You don't really do anything.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: Your life's miserable today.
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: I'm a fun person when you listen to me, son.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: Not a fun.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: Yeah. What do you want?
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Shoes.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: What kind of person do you want me to be?
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: Yeah. And try to be consistent in your own life
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: that you're worthy of your authority being respected.
- 1:15:31Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: I think some of the best moments I had with
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: my kids were moments when I admitted that I didn't
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: handle something right. Because we're supposed to discipline them. We're
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: not supposed to exasperate them. And there were times that
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: I exasperated them as opposed to disciplining them. And I
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: owned it. I came back and talked to him and said, hey,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: you know, the way I handled this wasn't the right
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: way to handle it. Here's what upset me. This is
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: why I was upset. But I didn't handle it the
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: way I should. And I asked for y'all to forgive
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: me for that. And so sometimes when you parent. incorrectly
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: on it and be honest about it. Yeah.
- 1:16:03Speaker 7: And even like in my case, and I know Greg
- 1:16:07Speaker 7: and a great Rick, you do too, have adult kids
- 1:16:10Speaker 7: now where they're now grown men or women with their
- 1:16:12Speaker 7: own families or starting out in life, trying to figure
- 1:16:14Speaker 7: it out. Sometimes when they mess up, uh, they make
- 1:16:18Speaker 7: a bad decision or something happens. some of the great
- 1:16:21Speaker 7: conversations is, well, let me tell you what I did.
- 1:16:23Speaker 7: I mean, and they're like, oh, so it's not just,
- 1:16:25Speaker 7: I mean, don't make it right. I mean, you know,
- 1:16:27Speaker 7: when they're working through something. Let me tell you what
- 1:16:29Speaker 7: kind of good I was when.
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: I did that. I did the same thing. And don't
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: make it right. I got some good examples.
- 1:16:35Speaker 7: Yeah, but give them examples of something that you messed
- 1:16:39Speaker 7: up on that's related to what it is when they're
- 1:16:41Speaker 7: trying to figure it out.
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: Well, I'd show them the negative consequences of that, too.
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: I wish I hadn't have done that. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: I just, you go, hey, look. But also, If you're
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: people of faith, if I could give one, if you're
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: a person of faith, try to communicate what you're saying
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: is correct behavior with a biblical foundation. You know, this
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: thing where you try to scare kids, you know, like saying, hey,
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: if they get old enough, you know, where you might
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: be concerned about their sexual purity. Hey, you don't want
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: to do that because you might get somebody pregnant or
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: you might get pregnant or you might get some disease.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: Can I just tell you that doesn't work? Now, if
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: you want to sit down and say, let me tell
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: you why God says this is something he created for marriage,
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: because there can be some really horrible consequences that you'll
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: deal with the rest of your life if you don't
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: do things the way God said to do it. This
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: is what God mandated, and he mandated this for it
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: to be a blessing and communicate that this is sinning
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: against God.
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: Not.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: Well, you know, we don't really approve of that. And
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: of course, you can get yourself in trouble if you
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: do that. That doesn't work. It just doesn't work. There
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: has to be some sort of spiritual conviction that if
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: I do this, I'm not just going to disappoint my parents.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: I'm going to sin against God. So anytime there's a
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: biblical foundation to behavior that you're talking about, always communicate
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: it through the Bible. To me, that really, that to
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: me is a whole different way to look at it.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: And I think it has a better chance for success.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: Because where you have to be careful if all you're
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: playing is, I'm going to be disappointed, sometimes a child goes, oh,
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: so if you don't know about it, then I'm good.
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: You've got to be careful leaving that door open. So
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: there you go. Thanks for the question. Appreciate you asking us.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: And continue to kind of seek wisdom from those that
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: have been there. That's smart. We'll be back. More of
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: the show right after this.
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: This is The Rick Burgess Show.
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: So other things going on, you know, when you just
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: want to laugh at something. You know, one of the
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: greatest things you can do if you are someone who
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: is deceitful is that you begin to accuse other people
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: of being you. Oh, yeah. Well, look what they did there.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: Look what you did.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: But sometimes I wonder, 3A here, Adler, I wonder how,
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: like in this case, Barack Obama keeps a straight face
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: because here's what Barack Obama is saying about the current
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: state of our society, and something he's tired of. He's
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: just tired of it. I'm tired of it. I'm tired
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: of this, and here's what I think needs to happen.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: Please listen to this. And division.
- 1:19:36Speaker 15: And I don't know about you, but I am tired
- 1:19:38Speaker 15: of being angry. And I'm tired of being divided. I
- 1:19:42Speaker 15: want friendship and neighborliness and joy and generosity. I want
- 1:19:48Speaker 15: everybody rolling up their sleeves in the common enterprise of
- 1:19:53Speaker 15: rebuilding America. I want everybody handing our country and our
- 1:19:59Speaker 15: world off to our kids a little better than they
- 1:20:02Speaker 15: are right now.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: That's what I want.
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: So he said he, the face of the modern Democratic Party,
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: said he's tired of being divided. Golly.
- 1:20:13Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: His middle name is divided. All you did for eight
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: years was divide us. You, a black president, took us
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: backward on race relations. We were doing better before you.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: And America thought to put you and your family in
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: the White House for eight years. And all you did
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: was tell us how evil we were and how horrible
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: the country was. And you divided us. Yeah. That's all
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: you did is divide and conquer because that's been the
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: playbook for the longest time. He wants friendship and neighborliness. Well,
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: you know, the policeman that you accused of doing something
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: in Baltimore that he did not do and ruined his
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: life and and turned the city upside down because you
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: divided everybody against law enforcement, and you didn't have your
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: story right. I don't remember you apologizing for that. Did
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: you ever go apologize to that guy? Uh-uh. Mike didn't
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: have his hands up. Okay? Yeah. Let's think about pre-Obama, post-Obama.
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: Let's think about that. Our society was, when you left,
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: we were so much more divided than we were before
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: you got there.
- 1:21:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Yeah. And you think it would have been the opposite.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: Was it just me, or did he have a little
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: bit of.
- 1:21:28Speaker 7: His tone changed a little bit.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: Well, yeah. He's got him on sound like an orator.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: I got to get that in the end there. What
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: I want. That's what I got there.
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: Here's a clip of Obama. Same guy. Here he is saying,
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: I want you to stay angry. These are his own words.
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: As well as those of you who consider yourselves young
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: at heart.
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: To the young and the young at heart.
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: I want you to stay angry.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: I want you to stay frustrated. That's not very neighborly.
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: It sounds a little divided. Tired of fighting. Come together.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: It'd be like me doing a speech and all of
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: a sudden y'all go, did y'all hear Rick's speech? I'm
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: tired of hush puppies. Had enough? I don't want no
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: more hush puppies. I'm tired of eating hush puppies. I
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: don't want you with hush puppies. I mean, you'd be like,
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: Rick loves hush puppies.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: He just said he hopes Jesus has hush puppies.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: The only thing I'm more upset about hush puppies is cornbread.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: Enough with the cornbread.
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: I want a world with no cornbread.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: And you'd be like, Rick has no credibility here. No,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: I've heard him do it. He loves cornbread like crazy. Oh,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: my goodness.
- 1:22:41Speaker 9: So....
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: But if you say it a certain way, everybody goes,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: you know, that's really moving. That's why we need him back.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: That was very, very moving. So also, Speedy's told me
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: about old number one here, because they don't want to
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: be divided.
- 1:22:59Speaker 9: No.
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: Well. They don't cheat, right? The Democrats got caught cheating. Busted.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: By the way, it's a pretty good idea. I don't
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: want to be in a world where we fake people's names.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: I don't want voter corruption. I don't want illegals.
- 1:23:16Speaker 7: Y'all come on out, they got us.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: Y'all sound like the preacher in Coming to America.
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: That's exactly what it is.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: Holy God.
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: They busted us.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: We usually got with the same name.
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: David Sullivan.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: How about this? Good idea. The Democrats. At least it's
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: a good idea. It's a great idea. It's cheating, but
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: it's a great idea. They went and found just a
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: guy who had the same name as the Republican and
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: just said, would you run as the Democrat? He's got
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: the exact same name because they wanted to divide. Or
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: the independent or a third. Whatever he is. They used
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: it to divide the voting. People were thinking they were
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: voting for one Dan Sullivan. They were voting for the
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: wrong one.
- 1:24:04Speaker 7: Yeah, they combed the voter rolls to find another Dan Sullivan.
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: We found a Dan Sullivan!
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: Yeah!
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: The leg up is great.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Yeah, my goodness. The leg up. You just did a
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: high knee. Wait a minute.
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: High.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: So they put another guy on there with the same
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: name so people would be confused.
- 1:24:21Speaker 7: And you know it's bad if the New York Times
- 1:24:24Speaker 7: is admitting it.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: Even the New York Times. Here's the video.
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: Roll it.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: Ad live.
- 1:24:29Speaker 9: And then you have ranked choice voting, which is crooked
- 1:24:31Speaker 9: as can be. So we shouldn't have ranked choice voting.
- 1:24:34Speaker 9: But on his own, Dan Sullivan would win easily. But
- 1:24:39Speaker 9: the Democrats have put another guy named Dan Sullivan, in
- 1:24:42Speaker 9: this case, Daniel Sullivan, on the ballot. And that's very unfair.
- 1:24:47Speaker 9: That's just outright cheating. So we're before the court to
- 1:24:51Speaker 9: see what you can do. But people are totally confused.
- 1:24:54Speaker 9: They shouldn't be confused when voting. At least let him
- 1:24:57Speaker 9: use the name Senator Dan Sullivan as opposed to incumbent
- 1:25:01Speaker 9: because a lot of people don't know what incumbent means.
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: No, they don't. They don't know what it means.
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: That's true, though.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: They're stupid. Yeah. They won't know what it means when
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: they say incumbent. but yeah oh my goodness.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: Sexy chocolate that's what it is get it up for
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: the band sexual.
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: Chocolate You may know him as Joe the Policeman from
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: the What's Going Down episode of That's My Mom. That's right.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: You've noticed I've watched that a few times. So they
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: go and get a guy with the exact same name
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: and run him to try to split the Dan Sullivan vote. Correct.
- 1:25:36Speaker 7: And they've been busted on that.
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: Pretty smart. I will say this. I'm not saying it's right.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: It's cheating. That's a good one. Somebody's got to be
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: held accountable. But we'll see. Yeah, it is.
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: Like Speedy said, the New York Times admitted that the
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: Democrats went through the rolls to find a person with
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: the same name to put him on the ballot.
- 1:25:59Speaker 7: Yeah, so they want to confuse the voter.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: And some may vote for the wrong one. Yeah, thinking
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: they're voting for the right one. Well, look, you've got
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: to give a little bit of a prop there. That
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: was pretty good. That sounds like something I would have
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: done in like a student election. Yeah.
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: Alaska may be the election that decides the control of
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: the Senate.
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: And they put a fake name on the ballot.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: Wow. If you're going to do it, do it somewhere
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: that I'm at.
- 1:26:23Speaker 7: The Justice Department is moving to delay certification because of this.
- 1:26:27Speaker 7: Since there's two individuals by the same name.
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: We can't quite get a certification. Unscreened phone calls are next. 1-888-6-BIG-VOX.
- 1:26:40Speaker 7: So when Obama gets up and acts like he's got
- 1:26:42Speaker 7: it rough when he owns five houses and then acts poor.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. People don't see that. That's what that accent
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: is supposed to be. I mean, the little waist. Yeah.
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: Phone calls.
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: This is the Rick Burgess Show.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: Continues to develop self-driving cars. She wants one. She's like,
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: you know, I mean, those of us that are. I
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: don't think you can just have control of everything.
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: Greg.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Yes, you can. Yes, you can. So I can get
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: a car and I never do nothing. I just sit
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: in and it takes me. 98-year-old man buys his first
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: self-driving Tesla Model Y. He cannot believe it. He's able
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: to travel again and sit in the driver's seat. And
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: the car drives for him.
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: Yes, this entire video is done in the car. It
- 1:27:39Speaker 2: looks like he's driving because he's sitting in the driver's
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: seat and the steering wheel is moving. He's not touching
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: the steering wheel the whole time because it has.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: This is what mom's considering, Greg.
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: Tesla, full self-driving, parentheses, supervised. You're supposed to be supervising.
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: So we would still have to be in the car
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: with her then. No, no, no, no.
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: She would have to be in the driver's seat supervising
- 1:27:59Speaker 2: the Tesla.
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: I got it.
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: Yes, sir. All right, so here, this is a very
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: interesting question. What was your first car?
- 1:28:05Speaker 13: My first car was a Model A Ford, a 1931 Roadster.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: It was a piece of junk.
- 1:28:12Speaker 13: I was a sophomore in high school. It got me
- 1:28:17Speaker 13: where I needed to go.
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: So you went from a Model A to this.
- 1:28:22Speaker 9: Right?
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right. That was quite a... A lot of
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: cars in between.
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: First of all, tell me about this car.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: This is a Model Y, correct?
- 1:28:29Speaker 9: Yes.
- 1:28:30Speaker 5: So why Model Y?
- 1:28:31Speaker 13: Well, it's a little higher off the ground, and it's
- 1:28:34Speaker 13: a little easier to get into.
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: Than the other model.
- 1:28:37Speaker 13: It's just a.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: spacious.
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: Yeah, it feels nice.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: Has the car been driving okay? I mean, do you
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: have any problems with it? It has no problems.
- 1:28:48Speaker 13: It has not made a mistake, and I've been driving
- 1:28:50Speaker 13: it probably two, three months, and it's not made an error,
- 1:28:54Speaker 13: and it's driving. In fact, the other day, it stopped.
- 1:28:56Speaker 13: A chipmunk was crossing the road. And there was no
- 1:29:00Speaker 13: other traffic, and it did not run over the chipmunk.
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: I wish it had. I hate those things.
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: That's not the point of the clip.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: I wouldn't mind that on my commute.
- 1:29:09Speaker 7: Now, there is a monthly charge for the driverless option.
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: Of course, he knows that.
- 1:29:14Speaker 7: The only reason I know is because, hey, I got it.
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: And it's a game changer.
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: Look what he did to his Achilles.
- 1:29:23Speaker 7: Well, he had a Tesla, but I believe he has,
- 1:29:26Speaker 7: is it the C? C and then Y or something.
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: I don't know, but.
- 1:29:29Speaker 7: Because of his Achilles and not being able to drive,
- 1:29:32Speaker 7: he got to the point where his boot came off.
- 1:29:35Speaker 7: So if he had to step on the brakes, he could.
- 1:29:38Speaker 7: But they had to go to Arkansas. Anyway, he said,
- 1:29:40Speaker 7: I'm going to do driverless. And he said, you didn't
- 1:29:42Speaker 7: touch it one time. He said, it's actually kind of.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: Scary how good it is. It's like you're riding in
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: a train.
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: You're just there. It's crazy.
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: You're just a passenger. You've got the S, the X,
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: the Y, and the Cybertron.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: Okay, the S. So we have.
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: He's got the S, the sports.
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: That's the.
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: No.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: It's the standard.
- 1:30:01Speaker 9: Three.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: Maybe it's just three. That's what it is. Adler the three.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: Somebody on text nation said they have an uncle who's 83. Where?
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: Right above your legs. My uncle's 83. He's done the
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: exact same thing this guy's done. He and my aunt
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: travel a lot, but they're not to where they are
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: confident driving anymore. They just got in one of these
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: vehicles and went from central Florida to Gatlinburg. So I
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: can't drive, but I can get in this and just me.
- 1:30:32Speaker 7: As long as you're supervising, it will do everything.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: So the elderly need this.
- 1:30:37Speaker 7: And with all the distracting driving, they say it's better
- 1:30:39Speaker 7: than most.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I could use it. Who else?
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: What?
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: Did you say Asians?
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: No, I didn't say that.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: I think you did.
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: So the elderly need this and the aging.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: Oh, aging. Oh, aging.
- 1:30:51Speaker 2: Even that's the same thing.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Aging, elderly, kind of close. I kind of would like
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: to try it. Would you? Yeah. What kind of investment
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: are we talking here? It's not bad because, you know,
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: I've looked. Of course you have. The three. A three.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: A three.
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: I mean, it's... It's the price of a normal car.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: Okay. I'll be honest, that Cybertruck's the goofiest looking thing
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: I've ever seen. You've been very clear on that. I'll
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: try to color it up. I think we can do
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: better than that with the truck. We can do better.
- 1:31:22Speaker 7: This whole Tesla setup is perfect for someone like you
- 1:31:25Speaker 7: that has about an hour and 20 minute commute.
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: That would be perfect. No gas bill.
- 1:31:31Speaker 7: I mean, it's, you charge at home.
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: I got to get a stupid charge.
- 1:31:34Speaker 7: It'll get you to and from, back.
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: Charge at home. Charge you a little bit of hassle.
- 1:31:38Speaker 7: I mean, but, I mean, you start adding in all
- 1:31:40Speaker 7: the cost of everything. You're way ahead if you went
- 1:31:42Speaker 7: that way.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: How about this one? I would like to have one
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: run back and forth here.
- 1:31:47Speaker 6: Yes, sir.
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: This is you. What's up? Legally blind, and I'm now driving. Yeah,
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: that'd be kind of cool. Can you do that? So, apparently.
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: But he's supervising. That means you may have to jump in.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: Maybe they didn't tell anybody. Maybe they didn't do a
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: science thing in the world.
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: Uh-huh.
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: Y'all, I'm looking at a picture of the Ford Model A.
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: I can't believe that that was that guy. He's driven that,
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: and now it's Tesla.
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: Oh, my goodness. What a life. I love that guy.
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: If I could be like that at 98, I mean,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: I'd sign that document right now. Yes. Wow, he's got
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: it together at 98. He really does. He ain't got
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: no stories. Oh, buddy. My goodness. But, I mean, I
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: want to sit around and talk to him. I do, too.
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: Because I think I could even watch him eat. Yeah,
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: I think he could. I think he still.
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: That's saying a lot.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: That is saying a lot.
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: Wow.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: That's a big step for me. I think he controls it.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: People are saying that I couldn't handle one of these
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: because it would go the speed limit. It is going
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: to do that.
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: No, you can make it.
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: No, speedy needs to stay away from it. The way
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: he likes to hit the hammer on the highway. Oh,
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: good grief. Well, there's a... There's a fast mode.
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: Yeah, you can crank it up.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: So I can make it go as fast as I want?
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: And you can actually, if you feel it slowing down
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: and hesitating, if you see it coming to like an
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: intersection and it's slowing down, you can just give that
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: gas pedal a little tap, tap-a-roo, and it keeps going.
- 1:32:59Speaker 2: And it will continue the steering and the driving part
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: of it. You're just being like, it's okay, little buddy.
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: Keep on a-going.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: That's what you're saying to it? That's what you're saying.
- 1:33:07Speaker 7: Whatever mode it is where they stay within like five
- 1:33:11Speaker 7: miles an hour of the speed limit.
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:33:14Speaker 7: Hobie said he, they said that, and it was, I mean,
- 1:33:16Speaker 7: got there and back. And he said, it's amazing. They
- 1:33:19Speaker 7: even knows like where you need to go to charge it.
- 1:33:22Speaker 7: If you have a really long trip, like those people
- 1:33:24Speaker 7: from central Florida to Gatlinburg.
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:33:29Speaker 7: Some of these supercharging places, 20 minutes, maybe 25.
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: And you're, you're in and out.
- 1:33:34Speaker 7: And he said a lot of times, yeah, they'll go
- 1:33:36Speaker 7: grab something to eat and come back.
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: And it's already done. Are they readily available? Pretty much.
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: It knows. It knows.
- 1:33:43Speaker 7: But you are not a candidate for this.
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:33:45Speaker 7: Because you're always in a hurry. Nothing's ever fast enough
- 1:33:48Speaker 7: for you. Even when you're driving, you're not fast enough
- 1:33:50Speaker 7: for yourself.
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: Correct.
- 1:33:51Speaker 7: Even though you attempt to be.
- 1:33:53Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:33:53Speaker 7: So you would struggle someone else being in control.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: But you do let Sherry drive. So I don't know.
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: Maybe you would. Yeah, but that's just... He's not giving
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: a choice on that. Yeah, that's just keeping peace in
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: my life. Okay.
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: You've got sloth, chill, standard, hurry, and Mad Max mode.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: Yeah. And you can.
- 1:34:09Speaker 2: It will travel above the supposed speed.
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: Should we have Mad Max?
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: I don't know if we should.
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: That sounds.
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: But you've got.
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: Well, you said that.
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: Mad Max people driving on the road.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: Yeah, but that's got a liability case written all over it.
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: It does.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: In fact, you named it Mad Max.
- 1:34:24Speaker 8: Correct.
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: Yeah. So you're sitting here, and he put it on
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: Mad Max, trying to be sharp. Now look what's happened.
- 1:34:28Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 1:34:30Speaker 7: I can already hear the lawyer yeah well as the
- 1:34:33Speaker 7: operator you accept the liability of whatever you command it
- 1:34:36Speaker 7: to do.
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: Yeah that's a great way of saying it.
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: Sure is hey that old musk he's something man right
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: he is leon leon muster i blame the deed not
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: the breed didn't he just send up a rocket and
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: land it back down i.
- 1:34:49Speaker 7: Believe so it's just so amazing they can do that
- 1:34:51Speaker 7: y'all he's the richest man in the world and he
- 1:34:54Speaker 7: lives in a pod or in.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: A little neighborhood which is why he's the richest man
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: in the world which is just weird he don't spend
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: a lot of money on himself he definitely doesn't he'll
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: research I've had people talk about he's got about 50
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: kids that's pretty expensive well not if you make them
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: all live in little huts like you that's true good
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: point right I mean he's basically living in a human
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: dog house.
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: He is yeah he is look how happy this 98
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: year old man.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: Is I love him I'd like to hang out with
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: him hear some of him stories People used to be
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: racist openly. What?
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: What is the Rick Burgess Show?
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: So we mentioned a long time ago, because we've been
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: at this, you know, over four and a half hours now.
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: Doesn't feel like it, Rick. That's why. A long time ago,
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: we talked about Ernie Johnson retiring. With his bow tie.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: With his bow tie from the NBA Today show, whatever
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: it is he does. Um, so we have a nine
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: B nine C. So, uh, Charles Barkley and, and, and
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: Shaq are going to, they're going to respond to, uh,
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: to Ernie's, uh, retirement announcement. We'll start with Charles Barkley.
- 1:36:10Speaker 7: Uh, and he's already kind of hinted himself that he's
- 1:36:13Speaker 7: about to wrap.
- 1:36:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: You know, I don't know how much longer I'm going
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: to do this. Oh, okay. All right. It's meeting Chuckster.
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: How are we doing fellas?
- 1:36:21Speaker 2: Uh, um, Emotional?
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: Charles.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: Oh, wow.
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: Oh, wow. Charles.
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: Lip quiver.
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: That was tough.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: Charles.
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: Uh-huh. We knew the day was coming. It's still tough.
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: Been here for 26, 27 years.
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:36:43Speaker 10: It's been an honor and a privilege to work with
- 1:36:45Speaker 10: you all this time and Kenny and Shaq and the
- 1:36:48Speaker 10: amazing people behind the scenes. Nothing like it to be
- 1:36:54Speaker 10: able to to dribble a stupid basketball and get rich
- 1:36:57Speaker 10: and famous, and then come here and get paid to
- 1:37:01Speaker 10: watch the best players in the world, the best players
- 1:37:05Speaker 10: in the world.
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: You get paid to do it. We'd watch anyway.
- 1:37:08Speaker 10: And so many people had, you know, Turner, WBD, and
- 1:37:14Speaker 10: now I guess we Skydance. But it's been an amazing journey.
- 1:37:19Speaker 10: You've been our leader, our unquestionable leader.
- 1:37:24Speaker 14: Charles.
- 1:37:25Speaker 10: The question I'm asked the most, I'm not going to lie.
- 1:37:28Speaker 10: Most of the time, I'm like, where's Shaq and where's Kenny? Like,
- 1:37:31Speaker 10: I keep them in my damn back pocket. But the
- 1:37:33Speaker 10: question I'm probably asked the most is, is Ernie Johnson
- 1:37:37Speaker 10: as good a person as he seems?
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: And I say, man, he's better than that.
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: Real men do cry.
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: I didn't realize that show had been around that long. Golly.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: Time flies. People want to ask me about Ernie Johnson.
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: Mm-hmm.
- 1:37:52Speaker 7: Good night.
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: Chuck Diesel. Have you seen the latest commercial when Ernie's
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: sitting there rapping? It's like he's getting ready to go
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: on and he's talking rap lyrics.
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: Greg.
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: Oh, that's good. Maybe up in here, up in here.
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: I think it's that.
- 1:38:05Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: I might ask Greg a question. I should not ask
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: this because that was a very precious moment. Precious moment. Oh,
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: here you go. I'm just going to ask you, do
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: you kind of wish, were you on the bow tie
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: with Ernie? Not my favorite. Do you wish you'd just
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: wear it every now and then? Yeah. You're talking about
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: it's my thing. There it is. That's what I was thinking.
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: I was going to give it a picture ride.
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: Okay. There's my thing. Not only, let's just call it
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: bow ties. I don't need to see one every day.
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: So it's a statement? Just wear it a couple times
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: a week. Yeah. Thank you. But we're not going, you know,
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: but it didn't.
- 1:38:37Speaker 7: I appreciate you asking that, Rick, for some reason.
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: Did you hear me say, did you hear what you said?
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: Of course, I'm not going to do it. You already
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: did it.
- 1:38:43Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: Okay. There's no, I'm not going to. I would maybe
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: just show up either with no tie or a regular
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: tie every now and then. Give me a double Windsor. Well,
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: Greg's real cautious about it. You wear something for style,
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: he's fine with it. If you start wearing it because
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: you think everybody expects it, then it's kind of your thing.
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: Greg goes south on it. Yeah. Yeah. You're the only one.
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: Is Shaq as emotional?
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: Not as emotional, no. Chuck was definitely much more emotional.
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: All right, here's Shaq. Oh, this is Shaq Diesel. Charles,
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: I saw your lip quivering, buddy. Oh, I can't hear it.
- 1:39:14Speaker 6: As a basketball fan, before I became the Shaq, it
- 1:39:16Speaker 6: was three guys that loved to hear him talk. Bill Rafferty,
- 1:39:21Speaker 6: Dick Vitale, and Ernie Johnson. And then as I became
- 1:39:24Speaker 6: a player, I said, can't wait till these guys say
- 1:39:27Speaker 6: my name. And then in 89, 90, or 91, you know,
- 1:39:30Speaker 6: we always get around the date. You came to Fort
- 1:39:33Speaker 6: Sam Houston and you interviewed me and my father. And
- 1:39:37Speaker 6: it was a big day for me, but it was
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: a big day for him because you were well respected
- 1:39:43Speaker 6: in what you do. You never pass judgment. You're good
- 1:39:46Speaker 6: on your facts. You're delightful to watch. You speak positive
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: about everyone. So when you came to my house that day,
- 1:39:55Speaker 6: it did something for me. You know, got interviewed a
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: couple of times, Craig Sager, D. Scott, these guys and
- 1:40:01Speaker 6: all that. And then I got the opportunity to come
- 1:40:03Speaker 6: here and work for you. And I only came here
- 1:40:06Speaker 6: because you were here. You are the controller of this
- 1:40:09Speaker 6: thing people call a circus. It's the best circus in town, but.
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: Shag Diesel. Shag. Shag. He does whisper the whole time.
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: He does.
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: I don't want to talk to anybody. So, Greg, you
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: okay with that? Yes. Okay. What's he got to be
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: wrong with? You want to talk about that?
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: No.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: What's wrong with it?
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: Nothing.
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: I thought it was a good story. Pitcher, what if
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: that's what I decided to do?
- 1:40:39Speaker 4: That's Rick Burgess. Yeah, we're back from the break. And
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: Greg's here today. He's acting up a little bit today. Speedy,
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: tell me about what happened yesterday when you were helping
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: that old lady.
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: Tell me about it. You said that was you. Oh,
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: that's how you did it. What if that was me?
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: We probably wouldn't be here right now.
