Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, Everybody, Welcome to
- 0:25Speaker 1: the super Bowl edition of the Season with Peter Schrager.
- 0:30Speaker 1: If I sound like I'm in an NPR booth where
- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm like doing the Alec Baldwin shwitty balls voice, it's
- 0:38Speaker 1: because I'm not at the Super Bowl. I'm in Brooklyn,
- 0:41Speaker 1: New York. I'm in my home office. Gotta say, not
- 0:45Speaker 1: upset about it? Fine doing this in controlled setting. And
- 0:49Speaker 1: there was a decision made that the Season with Peter
- 0:52Speaker 1: Schrager and Good Morning Football would not be sent to
- 0:54Speaker 1: Vegas this year. I was upset. We're okay with it.
- 0:57Speaker 1: We've had two really good shows of Good Morning Football
- 1:00Speaker 1: the last couple of days, and I'm excited that we
- 1:03Speaker 1: have a podcast still today. I am joined by mister
- 1:10Speaker 1: Las Vegas. I would say it goes in the order
- 1:12Speaker 1: of this Sinatra, Sammy Davis Junior, and you know in
- 1:19Speaker 1: recent years maybe Doyle Brunson and Carrot Top and then
- 1:22Speaker 1: somewhere in that like list between like five and ten
- 1:24Speaker 1: is Aaron Wang Kaufman. So you're trying to wrap your
- 1:27Speaker 1: head around this yes, the producer of the podcast, Aaron
- 1:31Speaker 1: is in Vegas doing podcasts for I guess other people. Eric,
- 1:35Speaker 1: you're explain it. I don't know. I feel like there's
- 1:36Speaker 1: a big giant game of spinning the bottle and everyone
- 1:39Speaker 1: was invited but me, I've gotten over it and I'm fine.
- 1:42Speaker 1: But like, you're in Vegas.
- 1:43Speaker 2: What's it like, dude, Well, I mean, gosh, I'm honored
- 1:47Speaker 2: to just be on a list with Carrot Top.
- 1:50Speaker 1: You know, I don't.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I don't know too much of the man's work. But yeah, not.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I'm being earnest when I say this. I like Carrott.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Have you seen have you seen his act? And like
- 2:00Speaker 1: he does He's done interviews recently with Bill Maher and
- 2:04Speaker 1: maybe Mark Marin, and like he's already self aware. He's
- 2:07Speaker 1: also making I think twenty million dollars a year from
- 2:10Speaker 1: the luxor wherever the hell he is. So I'm not
- 2:12Speaker 1: hating on the Carrot Top. I think he's a Vegas mixture.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Good for him.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I also like the last I remember was all the
- 2:18Speaker 2: news that he got, like he started working out real
- 2:20Speaker 2: hard and he got jacked.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Yeah, it's huge Florida guy. I want to say from Florida.
- 2:26Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, No, we have an iHeart Live stage here
- 2:32Speaker 4: and so I'm part of the crew that's recording some
- 2:35Speaker 4: shows and setting up mics and taking down mikes and
- 2:41Speaker 4: uh yeah, Vegas is not a place that I go on.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Make me feel better because I'm bummed. I said, I
- 2:50Speaker 1: don't care. I'm upset, but like it's crazy that you know,
- 2:52Speaker 1: or that I'm looking at you and You've got the
- 2:55Speaker 1: Veggas skyline behind you and I'm here with my Brooklyn
- 2:57Speaker 1: background with some corduroy jeans on. I mean, you know,
- 3:01Speaker 1: if I wanted to.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Pay fifty dollars for breakfast and have a bunch of
- 3:05Speaker 2: people running to me as I'm walking around, I would
- 3:07Speaker 2: have just stayed in Manhattan.
- 3:09Speaker 1: There you go. You know, there's I have some have
- 3:13Speaker 1: you seen anyone? Have you seen anyone cool?
- 3:14Speaker 2: NFL wise, Yeah, I got to I set up you know,
- 3:18Speaker 2: I was like chatting with DeAndre Swift. I chatted with
- 3:22Speaker 2: Michael Pittman Junior for a little bit yesterday were shot
- 3:26Speaker 2: white and uh, you know, it's cool to like meet
- 3:31Speaker 2: some players and chat with them.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Two years ago, when the Super Bowl was in l A.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I got to very briefly talk to Josh Allen, which
- 3:39Speaker 2: was really cool.
- 3:40Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like it was like some rotating thing
- 3:43Speaker 2: of like Josh Allen, Dak and Herbert. I think, of
- 3:46Speaker 2: course Josh was the one I was most excited about.
- 3:49Speaker 2: I saw Dean Dawkins like from AFAR earlier, yes yes, yesterday, yesterday,
- 3:56Speaker 2: and uh yeah, my dad was texting me. He's like, yeah,
- 3:58Speaker 2: see if you could see Josh Allen. I don't know
- 4:00Speaker 2: if he's coming, try dad.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yeah, he actually heard recording this Thursday morning. I heard
- 4:06Speaker 1: from a friend and that he is going to be
- 4:08Speaker 1: there Thursday doing radio row. So you will see him
- 4:11Speaker 1: in a few hours. Be sure to get that selfie.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I've been watching from AFART. It's kind of crazy. It's
- 4:16Speaker 1: like there's it's like I'm like holding a snow globe
- 4:18Speaker 1: watching it because I am watching all the coverage. It's
- 4:20Speaker 1: been good. ESPN's went all out. They've got some good
- 4:24Speaker 1: stuff going on, and I saw McAfee was there. I
- 4:27Speaker 1: don't have a winner though, the first few days of
- 4:29Speaker 1: this thing, media wise, like nothing has broken through. I
- 4:32Speaker 1: thought a couple good interviews were done with Steve Young, ironically,
- 4:36Speaker 1: who's no longer with ESPN, but I saw Kevin Clark
- 4:39Speaker 1: did a really good Steve Young interview with him, and
- 4:42Speaker 1: I think Chris Sims and Florio had on Rock Bowers
- 4:46Speaker 1: the tight End from Georgia, which is such a random guest,
- 4:48Speaker 1: but like, I like seeing these kids before they're put
- 4:50Speaker 1: into the NFL machine, and I thought that was an
- 4:53Speaker 1: interesting interview. But it's the typical, you know, an NFL
- 4:57Speaker 1: car wash deal where there's ten things to do and
- 5:00Speaker 1: you're gonna see DeAndre Swift promote whatever Detergent or you know,
- 5:05Speaker 1: causer or whatever it is with Jim Rome, and then
- 5:08Speaker 1: he'll go on to local radio. Then he'll do something
- 5:11Speaker 1: with Ross Tucker and they'll go through the list and
- 5:14Speaker 1: that's radio row. I think the the interesting part for
- 5:17Speaker 1: me always was in the hotel lobbies and in the
- 5:20Speaker 1: hallways and then they come of the some of the
- 5:22Speaker 1: events and you know, that's that's that's a shame that
- 5:25Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be able to do that this year.
- 5:27Speaker 1: But I would like to think, uh that everything stays
- 5:31Speaker 1: copasetic and we can get to kick off and there's
- 5:33Speaker 1: no negative certainly headlines. That's my hope. Vegas scares me, Uh,
- 5:37Speaker 1: not that I would get in trouble or that anyone
- 5:39Speaker 1: that that we deal with would get in trouble, but
- 5:40Speaker 1: like when you put all of those people there, it
- 5:43Speaker 1: does feel like there's a potential for something and you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: thank God, knock on wood, we're doing this. On Thursday,
- 5:49Speaker 1: there was a story of a guy who tried to
- 5:51Speaker 1: climb the sphere. That's that's that's the uh, that's the
- 5:54Speaker 1: extent of the troublemakers I've seen.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's the only thing I've heard about. I mean, like,
- 5:59Speaker 2: traffic is really bad. It's like you can't get out.
- 6:02Speaker 1: You can't walk because it's so far, so you take
- 6:04Speaker 1: an uber. What do you do?
- 6:05Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 6:05Speaker 2: We didlast night some some coworkers from my heart and
- 6:08Speaker 2: I went to dinner and where'd you go?
- 6:11Speaker 3: We went?
- 6:12Speaker 1: What's that place called that fancy?
- 6:14Speaker 3: I don't know about that.
- 6:15Speaker 1: It was like there's an incredible either high or Chinese place,
- 6:19Speaker 1: Lotus of some Lotus of Siam. Maybe it's like something up.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Look it up Google that it supposed to be like
- 6:24Speaker 1: the greatest restaurant in the world.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Sam, Yeah, from Mingo Road.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I assume you did my place.
- 6:30Speaker 2: No, we went to a place called fine company, which
- 6:33Speaker 2: I had seen some good stuff online. It's outside of
- 6:36Speaker 2: the strip, which was nice. So we got like into
- 6:38Speaker 2: a quieter part of town. Very good meal. They were
- 6:42Speaker 2: super uh amenable to like me calling and being like, hey,
- 6:47Speaker 2: we're sitting in traffic. We'll be fifteen minutes late. Hey
- 6:49Speaker 2: you're really twenty minutes late. Yeah, So it was like,
- 6:52Speaker 2: you know, thirty minutes like sitting doing nothing in the
- 6:54Speaker 2: car West Coast super Bowl.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I imagine Niners fans will have an easier trip to
- 7:01Speaker 1: get there. Have you noticed even like that that kind
- 7:04Speaker 1: of thing where like there's more Niners or Chiefs fans.
- 7:06Speaker 1: It's like in the city the week.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Of so from what I've seen walking around by Radio Row,
- 7:10Speaker 2: a lot of Niners fans this morning at breakfast, a couple,
- 7:14Speaker 2: you know, like dads and their kids, like some families
- 7:17Speaker 2: all in Niners gear. Have seen some big groups of
- 7:21Speaker 2: Ksey fans, but they're like it's a group of them,
- 7:24Speaker 2: and there's lots of like just one off Niners fans
- 7:27Speaker 2: or two people. Have seen some surprising amount of Raiders
- 7:32Speaker 2: jerseys and stuff. Yeah it's Vegas, I mean yeah, but yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 2: but so far it seems like more forty nine Ers fans.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Before we get to our guest. I set a little
- 7:42Speaker 1: piece on this on Good Morning Football Thursday morning, and
- 7:44Speaker 1: I want to share it with the listeners because I
- 7:46Speaker 1: think it's both eerie and also beautiful in a lot
- 7:50Speaker 1: of ways. I was no joke. I was going through this.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I'm so pathetic sometimes when I was going through some
- 7:58Speaker 1: uh some old football trading cards that I have, I'm
- 8:02Speaker 1: not kidding and going through them with my son and
- 8:06Speaker 1: Derek Thomas card like an old upper deck. Nineteen ninety one,
- 8:09Speaker 1: Derek Thomas card came up and I'm looking at it
- 8:12Speaker 1: and I'm explaining who Derek Thomas was. I'm saying, this was,
- 8:15Speaker 1: you know, it was Lawrence Taylor in the eighties, and
- 8:17Speaker 1: then it was going to be Derek Thomas in the nineties.
- 8:21Speaker 1: He wore number fifty eight. He was a top five
- 8:24Speaker 1: pick of the Chiefs. He was a studd at Alabama,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and he hit the league like an absolute tornado. He
- 8:31Speaker 1: had twenty sacks in his second season in the league
- 8:34Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety when back then it was a lot
- 8:37Speaker 1: more run game in the trenches. It was much harder
- 8:40Speaker 1: to compile sacks back then, and you know, Gastino had
- 8:44Speaker 1: the record, but Derek Thomas came really close. He would
- 8:46Speaker 1: go on to be a multi time All Pro, a
- 8:50Speaker 1: first ballot Hall of Famer, the whole deal. Derek Thomas
- 8:53Speaker 1: tragically passed away on February eighth, two thousand, which, as
- 8:59Speaker 1: we're recording, this is twenty four years to the day.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Wow.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Now here's the eerie part. I'm looking at this car
- 9:06Speaker 1: and I'm like, oh my god, it's been twenty four
- 9:08Speaker 1: years since we lost Eric Tomas. I remember exactly where
- 9:10Speaker 1: I was. I was in college. I remember it hit
- 9:11Speaker 1: me like a ton of bricks because I love the guy.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Derek Thomas were number fifty eight. Aaron, what Super Bowl
- 9:18Speaker 1: is this? Fifty eight? Fifty eight for fifty eight And
- 9:25Speaker 1: I said this on air today on Good Morning Football,
- 9:28Speaker 1: and I said it probably a couple of hours ago.
- 9:29Speaker 1: And got like a thousand favorites or retweets whatever early
- 9:34Speaker 1: on it or I just chocked my phone. It's got
- 9:35Speaker 1: like one hundred k. Like the Chiefs fans are rallying
- 9:38Speaker 1: around this thing. And I said on the show, the
- 9:42Speaker 1: tragedy is the death obviously of one of the greatest
- 9:44Speaker 1: players of all time, but the second layer of it
- 9:47Speaker 1: is he was such a chief, mister Chief all those
- 9:51Speaker 1: years with the Chiefs. I think he played thirteen years
- 9:53Speaker 1: with Kansas City. The shame of it is that he
- 9:57Speaker 1: didn't even get to see this era of dominance. So
- 9:59Speaker 1: he was on all those Martiney Schottenheimer teams in the
- 10:02Speaker 1: nineties when Lynn Elliott's missing field goals or when they're
- 10:05Speaker 1: making a run, and then the Broncos would come in
- 10:08Speaker 1: with Lway and somehow beat them in a big spot.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Like they did not win playoff games back then. They didn't.
- 10:13Speaker 1: They simply didn't. Nick Lowry was the kicker. I want
- 10:16Speaker 1: to say, you know, Marino got him one time. And
- 10:19Speaker 1: just year after year after year with Derek Thomas and
- 10:22Speaker 1: Neil Smith and Deron Cherry and Albert Lewis and those
- 10:24Speaker 1: great great Chiefs teams, they always fell short and they
- 10:28Speaker 1: almost got this reputation of like a team that couldn't
- 10:31Speaker 1: win the big one. Then you go into the most
- 10:32Speaker 1: recent era before this one, and it was Alex Smith
- 10:36Speaker 1: and it was here we got this home playoff game,
- 10:37Speaker 1: and we somehow lose to the Titans, somehow lose to
- 10:40Speaker 1: the Steelers, somehow lose to the Patriots, and it was
- 10:43Speaker 1: year after year after year of gosh, so good in
- 10:46Speaker 1: the regular season, we just can't win the big one.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And now as we look towards the Super Bowl, this
- 10:51Speaker 1: is not only the greatest team in the sport, it's
- 10:55Speaker 1: the greatest team of their generation. And they're about to
- 10:58Speaker 1: win their third Super Bowl. If they put this this
- 11:00Speaker 1: game to bed, and it's you know, three super Bowl
- 11:03Speaker 1: wins in five years, it's forced there were Bowl appearances
- 11:07Speaker 1: in five years, Mahomes would improve to fifteen and three
- 11:11Speaker 1: in the postseason. And I did a whole thing on
- 11:14Speaker 1: Good Morning Football today. I was like, gosh, like it's
- 11:19Speaker 1: it's such a shame that like Derek Thomas couldn't be
- 11:22Speaker 1: a part of this and couldn't see this and couldn't
- 11:24Speaker 1: be honored and couldn't be fifty eight for fifty eight.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I get choked up on it. I know I'm a
- 11:28Speaker 1: football historian and I love this stuff, but it almost
- 11:32Speaker 1: seemed eerie with the way that those things aligned. And
- 11:35Speaker 1: I've got a good friend, Connor, who's a diehard Chiefs fan,
- 11:38Speaker 1: and we were texting about Derek Thomas last night and
- 11:40Speaker 1: he's like, hell, I'm wearing he's going to the Super Bowl.
- 11:43Speaker 1: He's like, I'm wearing the fifty eight. I'm wearing Derek Thomas,
- 11:45Speaker 1: and I wouldn't be shocked if Sunday, if a lot
- 11:48Speaker 1: of Chiefs fans in attendance are rocking that fifty eight.
- 11:50Speaker 2: He seems like, just from you telling the story, the
- 11:53Speaker 2: kind of guy who they didn't bring him out as
- 11:55Speaker 2: the honor a captain all he'd be on field, you know,
- 11:58Speaker 2: like they'd break him out in a good way, like
- 12:01Speaker 2: not in a in a you know, a negative way whatsoever.
- 12:06Speaker 1: But yeah, I would say this, there is a story
- 12:10Speaker 1: to be told. I feel like we've told every story
- 12:11Speaker 1: in the NFL. We've done every documentary. There's a ten
- 12:14Speaker 1: part series coming out on Apple about the Patriots. We've had,
- 12:18Speaker 1: you know, the Jerry Jones piece is being done by
- 12:20Speaker 1: the guys at sky Dance. Like there's all these different
- 12:22Speaker 1: documentaries that we have already. The nineteen eighty nine NFL
- 12:28Speaker 1: draft was Aikman at one. Okay, Tony Manderich, the Incredible
- 12:33Speaker 1: Bulk is what his nickname was, was two. The third
- 12:37Speaker 1: pick in that draft was Barry Sanders going to the
- 12:40Speaker 1: Detroit Lions. Derek Thomas went number four, and Dion Sanders
- 12:45Speaker 1: went number five. If you want to talk about a
- 12:47Speaker 1: book to be written or another documentary that hasn't been done,
- 12:51Speaker 1: give me the nineteen eighty nine draft and the stories
- 12:54Speaker 1: of what Aikman became, what Tony Manderrich became, eventually having
- 12:58Speaker 1: a cover of Sports Illustrated titled The Incredible Bust. Barry
- 13:02Speaker 1: Sanders retiring early, what could have been the greatest running
- 13:05Speaker 1: back to ever played the game, Derek who tragically passes
- 13:07Speaker 1: away at the age of thirty three, and then Dion Sanders,
- 13:10Speaker 1: who was arguably the greatest defensive back of all time
- 13:13Speaker 1: and maybe the biggest pop culture icon of his era. Guys,
- 13:18Speaker 1: we can do all this from Brooklyn. I can do
- 13:19Speaker 1: it all. We can still talk about the Super Bowl.
- 13:21Speaker 1: It's happening, and another guy who has a connection to
- 13:25Speaker 1: this game is going to be our guest. I'm so
- 13:27Speaker 1: excited to have him because we've been friendly for several
- 13:30Speaker 1: years and we have beat around the bush about whether
- 13:32Speaker 1: we're going to do this pod or not and when
- 13:34Speaker 1: we're going to do it, and we're going to get
- 13:36Speaker 1: to his connection to not only the forty nine Ers,
- 13:38Speaker 1: but also to the Miami Dolphins and Denver Broncos. The
- 13:43Speaker 1: comedian and incredible, incredible podcaster and personality, mister Dan Soder
- 13:49Speaker 1: joins us after this. For my money, he's the best
- 14:04Speaker 1: stand up comedian alive. Loved watching his specials. I love
- 14:08Speaker 1: him on podcasts. I think he's the best podcast guest.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Also, I don't even agree with that.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Now he's got his own Now he's got his own
- 14:14Speaker 1: podcast himself called Soder. Just one name, just Soder. He
- 14:20Speaker 1: is hilarious. You know him from his stand up from
- 14:23Speaker 1: Billions and from just about every social media or comedian
- 14:28Speaker 1: podcast there is. Dan Soder. Welcome to the season with
- 14:30Speaker 1: Peter Shaker super Bowl Audition.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, thanks for having me. Thanks for we finally
- 14:35Speaker 3: made this work.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I know you've got a Niners hat on. Now this
- 14:39Speaker 1: is We're gonna go down memory lane with you. The
- 14:41Speaker 1: reason I wanted you on this week is that I think,
- 14:44Speaker 1: as far as like fans of the forty nine ers
- 14:47Speaker 1: that I know, I don't know if there's anyone more
- 14:50Speaker 1: hardcore that I follow from Afar or that I know
- 14:53Speaker 1: in my own personal life that I personally know than
- 14:56Speaker 1: you with your Niners. But you're from Colorado, So where
- 15:00Speaker 1: did the Niners deal?
- 15:01Speaker 3: Come from well. I think I think the best way
- 15:04Speaker 3: to phrase my Niner fai them is that I'm not
- 15:07Speaker 3: the most hardcore forty nine ers fan. I think there's
- 15:11Speaker 3: a lot of people in comedy, maybe Okay may Al Madile.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Al Madirable would be the only person that I would
- 15:17Speaker 3: put above me as far as because he's a generational
- 15:20Speaker 3: season ticket holder, He's he's the man. He got me
- 15:24Speaker 3: involved with the Niners when we did this like sketch
- 15:26Speaker 3: thing in twenty fourteen. He absolutely is the most hardcore
- 15:30Speaker 3: forty nine ers fan.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I would say, it's funny I used to host that.
- 15:33Speaker 1: I used to m see this event. The state of
- 15:35Speaker 1: the franchise for the forty nine ers before they were
- 15:37Speaker 1: like at this levels is like five years ago. Rdding,
- 15:40Speaker 1: John and Kyle just out there and al would do
- 15:42Speaker 1: comedy every year and like Alice the most plug like
- 15:44Speaker 1: Alice Hugen if you don't know all things comedy, him
- 15:46Speaker 1: and Bill Bird they launched this whole thing, and like
- 15:48Speaker 1: Al's an amazing standard.
- 15:49Speaker 3: That's amazing. That was one of my favorite human beings.
- 15:53Speaker 3: I would say I am the most emotionally triggered forty
- 15:57Speaker 3: nine Ers fan in comedy. I would say I'm the
- 16:00Speaker 3: one that wears his heart on the sleeve the most
- 16:04Speaker 3: in comedy as far as forty nine Ers fans go. Yeah,
- 16:08Speaker 3: I grew up in Colorado, but I was born I
- 16:11Speaker 3: was born in Connecticut. My parents are both from California.
- 16:15Speaker 3: My mom grew up in Fresno. My dad is from
- 16:18Speaker 3: the Bay and my dad is a huge My dad
- 16:20Speaker 3: was a huge fort Niners man. It wasn't even like
- 16:23Speaker 3: a question of who I was going to like when
- 16:26Speaker 3: I was born. I was put into a forty nine
- 16:27Speaker 3: Ers onesie. I was born in nineteen eighty three, right
- 16:30Speaker 3: at the beginning of the dynasty. You know, they had
- 16:33Speaker 3: only won in eighty one, so I only missed one.
- 16:36Speaker 3: And I was one years old when they beat a
- 16:38Speaker 3: rookie Dan Marino, and in nineteen eighty four, and I
- 16:42Speaker 3: just grew up. I grew up sports wealthy, That's what
- 16:46Speaker 3: I like to say. I grew up very NFL wealthy.
- 16:49Speaker 3: When you grow up a forty Niners fan in the
- 16:51Speaker 3: eighties and nineties, you want for nothing except more rings.
- 16:56Speaker 3: The question was always who are we going to play
- 16:58Speaker 3: into the Super Bowl? And who might stop us in
- 17:01Speaker 3: the NFC Championship game. That was always the question, because that's.
- 17:05Speaker 1: That's the way to Artilou kind of ran that you
- 17:07Speaker 1: like if you're not if you're not familiar, Like in
- 17:09Speaker 1: the eighties and nineties, like teams would still take commercial flights,
- 17:12Speaker 1: yet Eddie the Bartelow would have a private jet. They
- 17:15Speaker 1: would take the players to Hawaii after the season, all
- 17:18Speaker 1: expenses paid. It was like northern California. I think about
- 17:21Speaker 1: it from being a Giants fan, I'm like Parcels and
- 17:24Speaker 1: Belichick and like this pretty team with LT and then
- 17:27Speaker 1: here are the Niners with their beautiful sun setting over Candlestick,
- 17:30Speaker 1: just tend and out beating the beating the La Rams
- 17:33Speaker 1: you know out of Anaheim, and the terrible the Cardinals
- 17:36Speaker 1: teams and all that stuff.
- 17:38Speaker 3: No, no, no, we played. You got to remember the old FC.
- 17:40Speaker 1: With the NFC East. You're right, so let's go through it.
- 17:42Speaker 1: NFC West was Rams, Saints and Falcons. Is that what? Yes?
- 17:47Speaker 3: And then later on Carolina Panthers when when they went
- 17:50Speaker 3: to the Panthers were at when they got brought in.
- 17:51Speaker 3: We basically were the NFC South thinking about Austin the Rams,
- 17:56Speaker 3: that's what it was. But my dad, my dad made
- 17:59Speaker 3: me a Niners fan and it just was like everything.
- 18:03Speaker 3: It was like uh, And we moved to Colorado and
- 18:05Speaker 3: then I go to school and all these people are like, no,
- 18:08Speaker 3: the Broncos, and You're like forty nine ers, dude, always
- 18:10Speaker 3: forty nine ers. So and it became kind of like
- 18:13Speaker 3: a part of my personality where I was like no, no, no,
- 18:15Speaker 3: If I like what I like, it's how I can
- 18:17Speaker 3: defend loving professional wrestling. Yeah, how I defended loving stand
- 18:21Speaker 3: up comedy.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Action figures, action figures.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Because I'm telling you right now, stand up comedy now
- 18:26Speaker 3: is like seen as being acceptable on a like basically
- 18:31Speaker 3: generic way.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Totally.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Back in the day, people were like, what you like
- 18:35Speaker 3: night club?
- 18:35Speaker 1: Do you tell someone you're a stand up comedian? I
- 18:37Speaker 1: think they would probably think you're a leper.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. But when I was little, when I was
- 18:41Speaker 3: like young, when I was like eleven and twelve, I
- 18:43Speaker 3: was like super into stand up and people were like
- 18:45Speaker 3: that's weird, like you should be into like, you.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Know, your guys like the amazing Jonathan, Like who are
- 18:50Speaker 1: you watching as a kid.
- 18:51Speaker 3: And when I was a kid, I was really into
- 18:53Speaker 3: Dana Carvey's nineteen ninety five special Critics Choice. My dad
- 18:57Speaker 3: also did this thing where like people from the Bay
- 19:00Speaker 3: are very proud about who else is also from the Bay. Yes, data,
- 19:03Speaker 3: I mean this is what everybody does.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Robin will you stand a Carvey exactly San Francisco scenes.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Uh, well, you also had Ellen DeGeneres, yeah, Keaven and Spacey.
- 19:15Speaker 3: I mean not Kivin Spacey, that's Kevin Pollack Ven Kevin Pollack.
- 19:20Speaker 3: But it was like anybody from the Bay. My dad
- 19:22Speaker 3: would be like, oh, he's from the Bay. Oh he's
- 19:24Speaker 3: he's from Marin like he knew where everyone was from. Yeah.
- 19:27Speaker 3: But uh but I loved I loved Robin Williams and
- 19:29Speaker 3: Dana Carvey were very special, be and Rodney Dangerfield and
- 19:33Speaker 3: of course Eddie Murphy and then later on Chappelle that
- 19:36Speaker 3: was my guy.
- 19:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Chapelle was like, do you remember how older you were
- 19:41Speaker 3: you were when you found your band, like not a
- 19:44Speaker 3: band that was like, like, I remember the first time
- 19:49Speaker 3: I saw Chappelle, I was like, oh, this is just
- 19:51Speaker 3: my favorite comedian. This is just my guy.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Like and I think for bands, knowing you Queens of
- 19:55Speaker 1: the Stone Age is probably like your band.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Right, yeah, yeah, you got you for me.
- 19:59Speaker 1: It's it's kind of a pop but you might roll
- 20:01Speaker 1: your eyes. But like I love the Killers, do you
- 20:04Speaker 1: think the Killers in Vegas?
- 20:06Speaker 3: I'm out of Vegas.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Just I've seen him fifty times. I know there are
- 20:09Speaker 1: Mormon guys out of Vegas and they've and they've been around,
- 20:11Speaker 1: and we know mister Brightside. But like I've seen I
- 20:14Speaker 1: have seen the Killers fifty times in person, absolutely love them,
- 20:18Speaker 1: and I don't care on a bashly that's my bad.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I think there's something to be said about like
- 20:23Speaker 3: repping what you love and standing ten toes down for it,
- 20:28Speaker 3: you become like a bigger fan of it. It's why
- 20:30Speaker 3: I love wrestling as much as I do. It's why
- 20:32Speaker 3: I love comedy as much as I do. It's why
- 20:34Speaker 3: I love the Niners as much as I do, because
- 20:36Speaker 3: there's this feeling of like, no, I live in die
- 20:39Speaker 3: with this, So when it does go well, it means
- 20:43Speaker 3: the world, and when it does go bad, it means
- 20:45Speaker 3: I'm in hell last last time, last year. At this point,
- 20:50Speaker 3: there's a zero chance I would have jumped on a
- 20:52Speaker 3: podcast with you because I was miserable. I was miserable.
- 20:55Speaker 3: I was miserable. Rock Kerry's elbow was busted. The Niners
- 20:59Speaker 3: had lost to the to the Eagles in the NFC
- 21:01Speaker 3: Championship Game. All hope was lost. I was just a
- 21:04Speaker 3: I was a puddle of tears.
- 21:06Speaker 1: And consolable, all right. So early nineties is when you
- 21:10Speaker 1: really pick it up, and that's the Ricky Waters, Steve Young.
- 21:13Speaker 3: I mean, the early eighties was really like that was
- 21:15Speaker 3: the magical time. Montana, Rice, Roger, Craig, Tom Rathman. You
- 21:20Speaker 3: had like, you know, my favorite player of all time,
- 21:23Speaker 3: Ronnie Lott Lot, you know. But then on the defense
- 21:26Speaker 3: you had guys like Bill Romanowski, Dana Stubblefield, Brant Young,
- 21:30Speaker 3: and with Bride Young.
- 21:31Speaker 1: On Friday, I did an event where I MC this
- 21:33Speaker 1: thing for the Senior Bowl, and I tell you how
- 21:35Speaker 1: cool it was at this event and seeing it there
- 21:38Speaker 1: was sixteen different NFL legends Hall of Famers, and in
- 21:41Speaker 1: a little circle, I was in a conversation with Brant Young.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Patrick Willis, the man who was.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Match Humble Quiet get into the Hall of Fame this year.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Covinced he will from talking to all the voters. You know,
- 21:58Speaker 1: as we're recording this, they're going to be able tonight.
- 22:00Speaker 1: And I haven't gotten any tips, but like I've been
- 22:01Speaker 1: posting on social media, about it like if taken on
- 22:03Speaker 1: a life of its own, Like he was the best
- 22:05Speaker 1: of his generations.
- 22:06Speaker 3: I mean him and Navarro Bowman were.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Like together by those two and Luke Keikley best linebackers
- 22:12Speaker 1: of their generation.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Said Luke Keikley was unbelievable. So it's unbelievable. So there, yeah, man.
- 22:18Speaker 1: And the third guy was t O, who obviously you've
- 22:20Speaker 1: heard horror stories of, like t is a t O
- 22:23Speaker 1: was amazing in this in this event that I was
- 22:25Speaker 1: at for the Senior Ball, and I'm talking to right
- 22:27Speaker 1: Young nineteen ninety three, Notre Dame, like this high like
- 22:31Speaker 1: you know, proceipit comes in just an amazing NFL career,
- 22:33Speaker 1: maybe the most underrated defensive linement of his time.
- 22:36Speaker 3: He was incredible. What I loved about Brian Young is
- 22:38Speaker 3: we had Brian Young and then we had Junior Bryant.
- 22:40Speaker 3: We had like two guys with Brian both ad tackle.
- 22:44Speaker 3: So they loved Brian Young. And I mean Patrick Willis.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Yeah I get giddy talking about old old Niners teams,
- 22:50Speaker 3: but but Patrick Willis is, I think he's in my
- 22:54Speaker 3: top five nin ers of guys I loved because I
- 22:56Speaker 3: think Patrick Willis just let me.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Guess some of the others because I feel like you're
- 23:00Speaker 1: my age, and like there's.
- 23:01Speaker 3: I'm already giving you two of the five.
- 23:03Speaker 1: So Ronnie Lott and Patrick Willis, I'm going to say
- 23:05Speaker 1: you were a huge Frank Gore fan.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Love Frank Gorber. Not my top five, top ten, absolutely.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Okay, I think you probably knowing what you're all about
- 23:15Speaker 1: and all this stuff, you love big Justin Smith, the
- 23:17Speaker 1: cowboy on the defensive line of our nineties.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Listen, he came in and immediately changed stuff we had. Well,
- 23:23Speaker 3: we had Smith and Smith at the end. Then Super
- 23:26Speaker 3: Bowl forty seven we had Alden Smith and Justin Smith
- 23:29Speaker 3: just absolutely terrorizing quarterbacks. Loved that d line, that Super
- 23:33Speaker 3: Bowl forty seven defense to this day. You know, Vic
- 23:37Speaker 3: Fangio a decordinator, just calling all the shots. I'm Brooks God,
- 23:43Speaker 3: everybody on that team.
- 23:44Speaker 1: I love that team. I So that year I was
- 23:47Speaker 1: like with Foxsports dot Com and Fox Sports Wanted, they
- 23:50Speaker 1: were like, you're gonna follow a team through the playoffs.
- 23:52Speaker 1: We're going to give you the Niners. So I was
- 23:54Speaker 1: there every step of the way, and you.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Saw, you saw the other great NFC championship come back
- 24:00Speaker 3: and we were down seventeen to the Falcons. Come on.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Unbelievable was in the building. It was unbelievable.
- 24:05Speaker 3: And then that was when no one could stop Colin Kaepernick.
- 24:08Speaker 1: That was like that game against the Packers. I was
- 24:10Speaker 1: at that one in the playoffs. Who was in Candlestick
- 24:13Speaker 1: and Kaepernick and ran for I think one hundred and
- 24:15Speaker 1: ninety yards on Vic Fan on Dom Capers's defense, just
- 24:19Speaker 1: up and down the field on a Saturday night. It
- 24:20Speaker 1: was unbelievable.
- 24:21Speaker 3: He had the two sixty eight total. He had something
- 24:24Speaker 3: like insane. He had a crazy I think like rushing
- 24:26Speaker 3: yards he had.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Overtly, he single handedly put dom Capers, who's considered one
- 24:30Speaker 1: of the greatest defensive minds, like he put him out
- 24:32Speaker 1: the past year Like that was it. You can't coach
- 24:33Speaker 1: anymore after this, what Kaepernick did to him. Yeah, all right,
- 24:36Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of the other the final three
- 24:38Speaker 1: given to me.
- 24:39Speaker 3: One of them is very easy. Who I named my
- 24:42Speaker 3: golden retriever after when I was ten years old, Montana
- 24:46Speaker 3: Joe anton Fair. I go crazy with Joe Antenna, and
- 24:50Speaker 3: then Jerry Rice obviously yep, and then randomly, but I guess,
- 24:56Speaker 3: let me guess.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Let me guess Brent Jones. Well host, Okay, so we're
- 25:04Speaker 1: back worred about Bresta Jones is Randy Cross, Dude, I'm like,
- 25:10Speaker 1: I'll give you.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Can I give you his college?
- 25:12Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 25:12Speaker 3: I hate the college because I grew up in Colorado
- 25:14Speaker 3: a Buffs fan. He went to.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Nebraska, Nebraska a Nebraska forty niner.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Around that time. He was a little, I think a
- 25:22Speaker 3: little before Brent Jones. Okay, they might have crossed over
- 25:26Speaker 3: us offense. Offense, not William barnon On Floyd. He was
- 25:31Speaker 3: in Florida State. Yeah, would just he would always have
- 25:35Speaker 3: turfiness in his face. Mask bar down the middle, number
- 25:38Speaker 3: forty four.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Tommy Rathman, Oh yeah, the fullback, come on the best.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Bob Rathman was the main I met, uh so when
- 25:49Speaker 3: growing up in Colorado and obviously growing up with Mike
- 25:52Speaker 3: McDaniel is my middle school best friend.
- 25:55Speaker 1: We're going to get into this in a second.
- 25:57Speaker 3: I love this. Go on. His stepdad Gary worked for
- 26:00Speaker 3: the Broncos, and they no matter how much free gear
- 26:05Speaker 3: they threw at me, they knew they could never change
- 26:07Speaker 3: the fact that I was a forty nine er fan.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Here's an Ed McCaffrey Jersey, get it out of my face.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Oh I loved dude. I still got a box of
- 26:12Speaker 3: Eddio's somewhere in my house. I didn't Here's the thing,
- 26:16Speaker 3: I don't hate the Broncos. It was like, I would
- 26:18Speaker 3: cheer for the Broncos, but.
- 26:19Speaker 1: It was a different conference, not a threat.
- 26:21Speaker 3: But I could always I would always hit them with
- 26:23Speaker 3: we did one, Yeah, there you go. I would always
- 26:27Speaker 3: just go fifty five to ten. Which was the year
- 26:29Speaker 3: my parents got divorced and my dad was a Niners
- 26:32Speaker 3: fan of my mom was like, I got to be
- 26:33Speaker 3: a Broncos fan. I can't be a forty nine Ers fan.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Reminds me too much of Gary. And then just be
- 26:38Speaker 3: it out, just an absolutely blowout.
- 26:40Speaker 1: And then this past couple of years, I don't think
- 26:43Speaker 1: people understand the heartbreak it's been for the Niners. So
- 26:46Speaker 1: you guys are up, not to get all sad here,
- 26:49Speaker 1: but you're ten points in the fourth quarter after the
- 26:52Speaker 1: questionable offensive pass interference on Kittle at the end of
- 26:55Speaker 1: the first half.
- 26:56Speaker 3: And I don't need to go on talk about it.
- 26:58Speaker 3: I don't even want to. I don't even want to.
- 27:00Speaker 3: I was there. I was in Miami at the hard
- 27:03Speaker 3: Rock by the way it let me hear the whole deal. Well,
- 27:06Speaker 3: that was because.
- 27:08Speaker 1: McDaniel was coaching for them. Then that's your best friend
- 27:10Speaker 1: from childhood.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Yeah, he was the run game coordinator the twenty nineteen season,
- 27:15Speaker 3: and in October that of twenty nineteen is when I
- 27:18Speaker 3: started dating my current fiance. One of the greatest human
- 27:21Speaker 3: beings to ever walk a planet, Katie Nolan. Mutual fans
- 27:25Speaker 3: mutually Katie Nolan. She just rules the admirer love sen
- 27:29Speaker 3: her almost wins Celebrity Jeopardy recently. Amazing, very proud of her.
- 27:33Speaker 3: But she so I went to every I got to
- 27:38Speaker 3: go to both the Divisional and the NFC Championship game
- 27:41Speaker 3: that year because of McDaniel.
- 27:43Speaker 1: So we've run who who they played? They beat the Packers.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Packers both both had us in Santa.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Claricep Yeah, both at Levis.
- 27:52Speaker 1: They they start just scored another touchdown on the Packers
- 27:54Speaker 1: for the records.
- 27:55Speaker 3: And I bet he'd be cool. I bet he'd be
- 27:57Speaker 3: okay with me telling this story. Okay, I would fly
- 27:59Speaker 3: in a day before the games just to hang with McDaniel,
- 28:03Speaker 3: and then McDaniel would help me what they were going
- 28:06Speaker 3: to to the teams and then they would do it.
- 28:10Speaker 3: It was first fifteen plays. Here's the script, dude, not
- 28:13Speaker 3: even that trigger. I'm telling you right now. McDaniel would
- 28:16Speaker 3: go like, we'd be sitting at his kitchen table and
- 28:18Speaker 3: he'd be like, Yeah, the Viking's got a week four technique,
- 28:21Speaker 3: so we're just gonna bang on them all day. Just
- 28:23Speaker 3: watch him bang on them all day. And then they'd
- 28:25Speaker 3: do that, and he'd be like, and then we'll go
- 28:27Speaker 3: all over the top. He would like to tell me
- 28:28Speaker 3: what they're gonna do. I remember specifically the NFC Championship
- 28:31Speaker 3: game against the Packers. McDaniel went, Yeah, they spent a
- 28:34Speaker 3: lot of money on those edge rushers. Well, it's gonna
- 28:37Speaker 3: be a real it's gonna be a real problem for
- 28:39Speaker 3: them if they have to stop the run. So we're
- 28:40Speaker 3: just gonna give it the moster and.
- 28:41Speaker 1: They pass attempts for Garoppolo that game.
- 28:44Speaker 3: I'm telling you, he hold it. And what he told
- 28:47Speaker 3: me and my friend Chad, who go to every game,
- 28:49Speaker 3: is he said death by a thousand cuts. That's what
- 28:52Speaker 3: he said through a wall.
- 28:53Speaker 5: Here.
- 28:54Speaker 3: McDaniel goes, I'm gonna give him death by a thousand cuts,
- 28:57Speaker 3: and he did. Mostert went for like two.
- 28:59Speaker 1: You have like two sixteen five touchdowns something crazy.
- 29:02Speaker 3: It was not one of my favorite moments I've ever
- 29:04Speaker 3: seen as a human, and as a sports fan was uh.
- 29:08Speaker 3: I mean, it was unbelievable. As a fan of the
- 29:09Speaker 3: forty nine ers when they won the NFC championship game,
- 29:12Speaker 3: McDaniel's wife, Katie McDaniel, got Chad and I and she said, listen,
- 29:18Speaker 3: there's a chance I'm gonna be able to get you
- 29:19Speaker 3: guys on the field. And we're and I'm like for
- 29:22Speaker 3: the Niners when an NFC championship came down?
- 29:25Speaker 1: What at all?
- 29:26Speaker 3: So so we get down there, so we like we
- 29:29Speaker 3: walked through because you know, it's like Katie's leading the
- 29:31Speaker 3: pack and it's we're there with his his mom, with
- 29:34Speaker 3: McDaniel's mom and his his his in laws, and so
- 29:38Speaker 3: we get on the field or whatever, and I got
- 29:40Speaker 3: to watch McDaniel and Moster have this like in depth
- 29:45Speaker 3: conversation that looked so important while I was watching it,
- 29:50Speaker 3: and it was just one of the coolest moments I've
- 29:51Speaker 3: ever seen in my life. And that's so cool.
- 29:53Speaker 1: And you know, he was on like ten teams before
- 29:56Speaker 1: he just hung with them. And of course, but what's
- 29:58Speaker 1: the let me hear the finish to it.
- 29:59Speaker 3: What was the I just asked McDaniel, I said, like,
- 30:01Speaker 3: what did you say to him? He said, I just
- 30:03Speaker 3: told him, you know, you deserve everything you get and
- 30:05Speaker 3: that you worked your ass off to get here and
- 30:07Speaker 3: that this is all this is all you, this is
- 30:10Speaker 3: everything you've worked for or whatever, and it was just
- 30:11Speaker 3: a great moment. It was just the moment where I
- 30:13Speaker 3: was like, dude, this is so cool. But yeah, and
- 30:15Speaker 3: then so I was, you know, Katie and I had
- 30:20Speaker 3: just started dating, and she was still at ESPN and
- 30:23Speaker 3: she was covering the Pro Bowl, and then she had
- 30:25Speaker 3: to go down to Miami for the Super Bowl and
- 30:28Speaker 3: she said like, hey, there's a chance I can get
- 30:30Speaker 3: you a ticket to this game. And I was like, oh,
- 30:33Speaker 3: I'll go down there immediately. And she did you know
- 30:37Speaker 3: the Super Bowl parties, there's always like, yeah, a weird party.
- 30:40Speaker 3: I don't know what you guys do at your illuminati parties,
- 30:43Speaker 3: but there's something NFL illuminati for sure where they hand
- 30:46Speaker 3: you tickets. So she immediately texted me, She's like, I
- 30:49Speaker 3: got his tickets and I got it. I got a
- 30:51Speaker 3: flight down there. And what we didn't know was the
- 30:56Speaker 3: tickets were in the chief section, so I, me and
- 31:00Speaker 3: three other forty nine Ers fans were the only fans
- 31:03Speaker 3: in this entire block of the hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Which now every time I go to my point, exactly
- 31:13Speaker 3: where my sheet was, and I go like, I was
- 31:15Speaker 3: right there when the Niners lost. I was sitting right there,
- 31:18Speaker 3: and when he sat there and watched, and when we
- 31:20Speaker 3: were when I think Fred Warner might have given Patrick
- 31:25Speaker 3: Mahomes his first interception of the postseason. See you probably
- 31:29Speaker 3: have to look that up, but Fred Warner in that
- 31:31Speaker 3: Super Bowl kicked off Patrick Mahomes for the first time
- 31:34Speaker 3: in his career in the postseason.
- 31:36Speaker 1: It was and it gave. It was in the red zone,
- 31:39Speaker 1: and it was a Niners up ten with eleven minutes
- 31:42Speaker 1: left to go.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Well, guess who stood up and yelled, how the do
- 31:46Speaker 3: you like that? Let's go forty nine Ers. I mean,
- 31:49Speaker 3: I was like, I had my red Niners. What you're doing?
- 31:52Speaker 1: I was like, well, Fred Warter, Fred Ward.
- 31:56Speaker 3: And then and then they came back. And I'm gonna
- 31:59Speaker 3: tell you right now, when when a team comes back
- 32:02Speaker 3: and you're in their section, you sure as hell feel
- 32:06Speaker 3: that you feel the best way I could say it
- 32:08Speaker 3: is it felt like I was being swallowed in quicksand
- 32:12Speaker 3: like they just kept like the right. There was one guy,
- 32:15Speaker 3: there was one kid that just had these nets.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I killed Jersey.
- 32:20Speaker 3: He had Seltzer's. He was drinking hard Seltzers and he
- 32:23Speaker 3: was running up and down the stairs and I was
- 32:26Speaker 3: like watching him go from being completely quiet to being
- 32:29Speaker 3: very loud and aggressive, and I was like, I was
- 32:32Speaker 3: just getting mad. And I always will give Katie credit
- 32:35Speaker 3: for this. When the forty nine ers turned the ball
- 32:38Speaker 3: over and we knew the Chiefs are going to run
- 32:39Speaker 3: out of the clock, which they were. They were running
- 32:42Speaker 3: out of the clock.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Frank Frank Clarke is that Garoppolo just kind of coughs
- 32:45Speaker 1: the ball and it's fourth.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Down and then they do the they get a joke touchdown,
- 32:49Speaker 3: They got one like kind.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Of Kelsey scores, and then Damian Williams puts the game away.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Yeah. That when they put the game away, we were
- 32:57Speaker 3: going to the after party.
- 32:59Speaker 1: And I don't think everyone listening at home knows there
- 33:02Speaker 1: is a after party regardless if you win or lose
- 33:05Speaker 1: at the super Bowl.
- 33:06Speaker 3: So at the super Bowl, the owners have to pay
- 33:08Speaker 3: for the party. Before the game.
- 33:10Speaker 6: No matter what entertain there's a rapper. It's everything. Well
- 33:14Speaker 6: they're just they will hold on to that because this
- 33:16Speaker 6: is this was wild. So Katie, you know, she's a
- 33:20Speaker 6: Pats fan, she's diehard Pats. She's in like a jeans
- 33:23Speaker 6: in a leather jacket. She's just chilling and I'm like
- 33:26Speaker 6: nine or out that not a gig, always always rapping.
- 33:31Speaker 6: And she just, like I've always said, like a point
- 33:34Speaker 6: man in a war zone. She just like leans over
- 33:37Speaker 6: to me and she goes, we're gonna want to leave.
- 33:40Speaker 6: They're gonna fire the cannons and the Confederiti's gonna come down. Yep,
- 33:44Speaker 6: you don't want to be here for that.
- 33:46Speaker 1: You're gonna say something or see something you don't need
- 33:48Speaker 1: to have in your life memories exactly.
- 33:50Speaker 3: And she was like it really was that thing. I
- 33:52Speaker 3: was like, look at me, look at me. We're getting
- 33:54Speaker 3: out of here.
- 33:55Speaker 1: And at that moment I knew she was the one.
- 33:57Speaker 3: Oh absolutely, I mean I knew before that, but I
- 34:00Speaker 3: was like, what a what an absolute queen? What my
- 34:03Speaker 3: soldier queen? And so she got me out of there,
- 34:06Speaker 3: and then you have to take a bus. So we
- 34:08Speaker 3: go to the buses or whatever. First, get a wristband,
- 34:10Speaker 3: you got a riskband. We get on the bus and
- 34:12Speaker 3: we're sitting behind Matt Lafleur because at the time there
- 34:17Speaker 3: Mike is the cossing game coordinators exactly. Mike Lafleur was
- 34:21Speaker 3: the passing game coordinator at the time. So we're sitting
- 34:23Speaker 3: behind the Lafloors and I had just gotten the.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Job at Green Bay. His wife, Beria is sitting with them.
- 34:28Speaker 3: I'm sure, yeah, well they lost, they had lost. I
- 34:31Speaker 3: think he was the head coach when they uh that season. Okay,
- 34:33Speaker 3: all right, they lost because he had just lost the
- 34:36Speaker 3: NFC championship game to the Niners the week before, because
- 34:38Speaker 3: it was Lafleur versus Lafleur. It was Mike versus Matt
- 34:41Speaker 3: in then this championship game the week before or two
- 34:44Speaker 3: weeks before. So we're sitting on the bus and I
- 34:46Speaker 3: keep telling Katie I'm such an NFL fan that I'm like, dude,
- 34:49Speaker 3: we're sitting behind the head coach of the Green Bay Packers,
- 34:52Speaker 3: and she's like, I know, you know, She's like yeah, yeah.
- 34:54Speaker 3: And then we go to American Airlines Arena where the
- 34:57Speaker 3: party is.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Think about this. They rent out the Miami Heat Arena.
- 35:01Speaker 3: It's crazy, dude. This was shregor. This is one of
- 35:03Speaker 3: the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. To
- 35:05Speaker 3: this day is one of one of these things in
- 35:07Speaker 3: a sad way, not in a happy way.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Everyone's depressed.
- 35:11Speaker 3: The forty nine ers get there, the bus shows up,
- 35:13Speaker 3: players are their coaches are there. We're talking to the
- 35:15Speaker 3: McDaniel and Sala, that's who we're hanging out with. We're
- 35:19Speaker 3: having like tacos with Sala and McDaniel, and it's like,
- 35:21Speaker 3: I'm believable for you. I'm just like I'm telling Mike, like, dude,
- 35:25Speaker 3: I'm so proud of you. Took my favorite team to
- 35:27Speaker 3: the super Bowl. I can't believe this. If we were
- 35:30Speaker 3: in seventh gradon you would have told me this, this
- 35:31Speaker 3: would have blown my mind. I say, what's up to, Kyle,
- 35:35Speaker 3: I'm like talking to a couple of people, dude. The
- 35:38Speaker 3: Jabberwockies come out, Oh here we go and dance and
- 35:43Speaker 3: they start dancing while all of while the forty nine
- 35:46Speaker 3: ers are just like sadly eating tacos. It's one of
- 35:50Speaker 3: these moments where I was like, this is so funny,
- 35:53Speaker 3: and then I was so here's how much of a
- 35:56Speaker 3: fan I am. I love McDaniel. I could only I
- 36:00Speaker 3: was so sad. I could only be there for like
- 36:03Speaker 3: maybe an hour before I was like, we gotta go.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Frinch had stayed and got a whack out drunk, and
- 36:10Speaker 3: I wake up the videos of Little Wayne performing.
- 36:12Speaker 1: It, because you know that loves Little Wayne. His son
- 36:17Speaker 1: his name is Carter.
- 36:18Speaker 3: I love it, dude. I was like, dude, they see
- 36:21Speaker 3: he's so crazy. But it just sitting the nuts, sitting
- 36:25Speaker 3: there talking to a very sad Roberts follow who was
- 36:30Speaker 3: very sweet. Him and his wife were very sweet.
- 36:32Speaker 1: So now wonderful people.
- 36:34Speaker 3: He's sitting there talking about the wheel Route, the Tyreek
- 36:37Speaker 3: hil Ran that got that third and twelve that basically
- 36:40Speaker 3: wanted to me Chris wass yeah, and he's like telling
- 36:43Speaker 3: us about this, and I'm looking at him and then
- 36:45Speaker 3: just behind him like dudes in the white masks being
- 36:49Speaker 3: like all I'm like, this is so dude. Katie and
- 36:54Speaker 3: I kept making fun of the DJ because he kept
- 36:56Speaker 3: being like, all right, you guys, he had a great
- 36:59Speaker 3: season and they don't want to hear that. They're like, dude,
- 37:01Speaker 3: we just we hot it and we just lost it.
- 37:05Speaker 3: And it was like one of those things where I
- 37:07Speaker 3: was like, man, that experience. I was like, how could
- 37:10Speaker 3: this was so crazy? And then Covid it was like, oh.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Damn, it was j Loo and Shakira. The halftime show
- 37:20Speaker 1: was great, like it was Miami. The week was great,
- 37:23Speaker 1: and then Covid hits and the whole roadbosted.
- 37:26Speaker 3: But I shut it down. But now we're back. But
- 37:28Speaker 3: now we're back up, baby, back up four years later.
- 37:32Speaker 1: The The funny one is that I remember I don't
- 37:35Speaker 1: know if it was the when they lost to the
- 37:36Speaker 1: Giants the second time or the Eagles, but there's video
- 37:41Speaker 1: of Gronk just going nuts at a Patriots Super Bowl
- 37:45Speaker 1: party after they lost, Like Gronk just just cutting a rug,
- 37:48Speaker 1: like did not give it, Like let's just party, like
- 37:50Speaker 1: let's go. And it's like I love that there's a
- 37:52Speaker 1: party for the losing tea.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Every year and you don't realize that every year the
- 37:56Speaker 3: team you watch lose has to go take a bus.
- 38:00Speaker 3: I mean, those guys have to be like you just
- 38:01Speaker 3: let me go back to my family. There was like,
- 38:05Speaker 3: so can Ebsen salt like I'm hurting. We hired flow Rida,
- 38:08Speaker 3: He's got a prefer Yeah, dude, that jude, that would
- 38:12Speaker 3: be the worst gig if they were like and they're
- 38:14Speaker 3: bummed and you're like you gotta go do your songs.
- 38:18Speaker 1: You're like, yeah, all right, we're gonna get back to
- 38:21Speaker 1: the nine ers. But off of that, have I mean,
- 38:23Speaker 1: obviously you're a man of great credibility. But I listened
- 38:25Speaker 1: to Mark Norman and Joe list on their podcast.
- 38:28Speaker 3: And yeah, Norman always Tuesdays of Stories.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Tuesdays of Story has been a listener for many times.
- 38:33Speaker 1: I won't say what that that listenership is called, because
- 38:35Speaker 1: it's very appropriate.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Cobby, Cobby.
- 38:39Speaker 1: I would say this though, like Mark always talks about
- 38:41Speaker 1: these like terrible corporate gigs, but he takes the money
- 38:43Speaker 1: and does it. Have you done a terrible corporate gig
- 38:45Speaker 1: where you're like, oh, I'm a crowd where they did
- 38:47Speaker 1: not want to hear you?
- 38:47Speaker 3: Dude? The best one was, I want to say it
- 38:50Speaker 3: was like two thousand and twenty one, maybe twenty twenty two.
- 38:56Speaker 3: I was still on the Bonfire and I got hired
- 39:01Speaker 3: for this gig. That's like in New York. I won't
- 39:03Speaker 3: do corporates. I just hate him because they suck. Yeah,
- 39:06Speaker 3: they're not fun. You're really at a work event. It
- 39:09Speaker 3: is basically, if you're doing a corporate event, you're doing
- 39:11Speaker 3: it for the money. YEP. Very rarely can the show
- 39:14Speaker 3: actually be good. But they're like, listen, it's in New York.
- 39:17Speaker 3: It's like ten blocks away from some hour. You got
- 39:21Speaker 3: to do forty minutes. And I was like done. The
- 39:24Speaker 3: money was great. I was like, awesome, this is unbelievable.
- 39:27Speaker 3: And I remember, before I'm leaving my house, I'm like,
- 39:29Speaker 3: you know what, I'm gonna bring a button down shirt.
- 39:31Speaker 3: I'm gonna bring a button down shirt. And this is
- 39:33Speaker 3: just in case. This is like, dude, this was.
- 39:36Speaker 1: A gala, black tie gala.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Black tie gala or doctors who fight cancer, and I
- 39:45Speaker 3: had to follow the three of the world's best cancer
- 39:49Speaker 3: doctors shredding on guitar shredding. The three of them were
- 39:54Speaker 3: just like me. And then they go like and now
- 39:59Speaker 3: here's dance oder and I'm wearing a button I'm wearing
- 40:03Speaker 3: an open button down with a Denver Nuggets. Dude, I'm
- 40:07Speaker 3: just wearing the old school, uh, the old school minor
- 40:11Speaker 3: logo of the Nuggets. I have that under this. And
- 40:14Speaker 3: I went up there and for forty minutes.
- 40:17Speaker 1: So bad ah, did my usual set or you like curtailed,
- 40:21Speaker 1: you like, try to do it for the cancer doctor community.
- 40:24Speaker 3: I broke at one point and I go, so what
- 40:25Speaker 3: you guys just gonna have cancer doctors that can that
- 40:28Speaker 3: can play the guitar. Then my dumb ass and then dude,
- 40:31Speaker 3: I just I took that. I remember the flop sweat
- 40:33Speaker 3: even describing this to you. I remember what the back
- 40:36Speaker 3: of my neck, in the back of my head, how
- 40:38Speaker 3: sweaty I was. And I just remember taking that check
- 40:41Speaker 3: and being like, this is the last corporate event I
- 40:43Speaker 3: ever do, and I haven't done one since.
- 40:45Speaker 1: No, totally, I get it. It's funny. I like they
- 40:49Speaker 1: used to have us do like in house at the draft,
- 40:52Speaker 1: like hype guy like and they would ask us like,
- 40:55Speaker 1: you know, good morning footballs in the morning, you guys
- 40:56Speaker 1: are in town, would you mind it? I did it
- 40:58Speaker 1: one time and it's like ballast, can you hear me?
- 41:01Speaker 1: Like shut up? Who do we take?
- 41:02Speaker 3: I'm like, all right, what dude, where You're like, oh man,
- 41:07Speaker 3: this sucks. It sucks because it's trying to do comedy
- 41:11Speaker 3: for people that don't want it is the silliest in
- 41:14Speaker 3: the world because you're just like silly you guys ever
- 41:17Speaker 3: go out of like it seems no, they don't want it.
- 41:20Speaker 3: And by the way, while you're doing it, you can
- 41:22Speaker 3: feel how lame it is. You're like, yeah. So then
- 41:24Speaker 3: I got the kitchen and my wife fans with me,
- 41:26Speaker 3: what are you blah blah blah, And they're like sitting
- 41:28Speaker 3: there like what mean while they're gonna bring a kid
- 41:32Speaker 3: out that like beat stage seventeen brain cancer, And I.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Got to like, that's not enough, Like I gotta do
- 41:39Speaker 1: like that. Yeah, but you ever noticed the subway this happens.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I suck I suck it. Oh yeah, it's brutal.
- 41:46Speaker 1: I'm watching the Niners. There're no coverage this week, and
- 41:50Speaker 1: it's a lot about this season and it's great, but like,
- 41:52Speaker 1: I don't think people realize. So they lose that game
- 41:54Speaker 1: in heartbreaking fashion. The next year, in Week two during
- 41:57Speaker 1: the COVID year, which is such a blur now where
- 41:59Speaker 1: there is no fans, they come to MetLife and Bosa
- 42:02Speaker 1: tears up his knee. It's a lost season.
- 42:04Speaker 3: Actually, high ankle spring. Yeah, it was everyone got injured.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I talked to and New talk to McDaniel, sure, but
- 42:11Speaker 1: I talked to Solid a lot about that season and
- 42:13Speaker 1: he's like, that's one of my proudest seasons. We won
- 42:14Speaker 1: eight games and everyone was hurt. We had like eighty
- 42:17Speaker 1: four guys hurt, and like we got through it. But
- 42:19Speaker 1: they went eight and eight, they missed, they missed the playoffs. Season.
- 42:23Speaker 3: You really with that season, though, because I always kind
- 42:26Speaker 3: of think of for in my mind, Saul is gone
- 42:29Speaker 3: that season, but I forget that he came back and
- 42:32Speaker 3: we really was the mentality of forty nine Ers fans
- 42:35Speaker 3: was like, Okay, we'll run it back. We have the
- 42:37Speaker 3: same team. We're just going to run it back. I
- 42:39Speaker 3: think the only people we were missing was a couple
- 42:42Speaker 3: receivers and a couple like dbs. But I think for
- 42:47Speaker 3: the most part we brought back the same crew, and
- 42:50Speaker 3: I think.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Like Tart and Ward and all those guys are back back,
- 42:53Speaker 1: and they drafted kin Law I want to say, in
- 42:55Speaker 1: the draft, and it was like we got this big
- 42:56Speaker 1: beast in the middle, like they were ready.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we got it. Was it was one
- 43:01Speaker 3: of those things where it was like, Okay, we're going
- 43:02Speaker 3: to be back, and then new you go eight and
- 43:04Speaker 3: eight and it's kind of disappointing.
- 43:06Speaker 1: So that year's gone. And then the following year, you're
- 43:08Speaker 1: up in the NFC Champion game to the hated team
- 43:11Speaker 1: that you've just beaten for years, and they come back
- 43:13Speaker 1: and win the Rams. And that's Veay and Stafford and.
- 43:16Speaker 3: That was that was the all in year. That was
- 43:19Speaker 3: l a going, Like they got von Miller, they like
- 43:22Speaker 3: went out and did a bunch of stuff. They were
- 43:24Speaker 3: like and again, the Ram their whole their whole thing
- 43:27Speaker 3: was we're all in, We're all in, We're all in.
- 43:30Speaker 3: And we were like, okay, well we beat him bad
- 43:32Speaker 3: twice because that season people forget that we were we
- 43:36Speaker 3: were losing, and then we beat the out of the Rams.
- 43:40Speaker 3: We were like, people didn't think we were good again
- 43:42Speaker 3: in that season. And then there was a Monday night
- 43:44Speaker 3: football game.
- 43:46Speaker 1: The Rams crazy, but I think it was right after
- 43:48Speaker 1: they got Odell. Also, the just acquired O'Dell and everyone
- 43:51Speaker 1: was like, oh, they got him instead of the Niners,
- 43:52Speaker 1: and the Niners kicked the crab at him.
- 43:54Speaker 3: And then and then that that's that set off our run.
- 43:57Speaker 3: And then we beat him again later in the season
- 43:59Speaker 3: and we were like, Okay, we go to the playoffs
- 44:02Speaker 3: and beat the Cowboys.
- 44:03Speaker 1: We beat the Packers in the Green Bag game, just
- 44:06Speaker 1: running a play in motion, one of the coolest plays ever.
- 44:09Speaker 3: And yeah, that might have been I don't know if
- 44:11Speaker 3: that was Kyle or McDaniel, but that was one of
- 44:13Speaker 3: those too crazy. Loved it. And then you get up
- 44:17Speaker 3: and we're like tended the fourth It was crazy. And
- 44:20Speaker 3: then and then lose and then lose to the Rams, which,
- 44:23Speaker 3: by the way, I don't want to I don't want
- 44:26Speaker 3: to completely blame the forty nine ers for this, but
- 44:28Speaker 3: I think it was part of the cause. Was the
- 44:30Speaker 3: first time I ever was constipated after that game.
- 44:32Speaker 1: You couldn't concipate it afterwards.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Yeah, for two weeks I could dig I was in
- 44:37Speaker 3: Rochester and I was like, why can't I It was
- 44:40Speaker 3: because my body was so intense from that NFC Championship
- 44:43Speaker 3: game that I couldn't force a duke out for two weeks.
- 44:47Speaker 3: Oh my god did last year?
- 44:50Speaker 1: Yeah already the whole thing and the Eagles thing and
- 44:52Speaker 1: then like you know.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Well, yeah, it starts with I was Katie and I
- 44:55Speaker 3: were at Week two when Trey Lance gets injured on
- 44:59Speaker 3: that run We're at the Seahawks at Niners.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Week two that he had ran like eleven times in
- 45:05Speaker 1: the first first corps or something, and then again.
- 45:07Speaker 3: And then yeah, and then he goes down and I
- 45:09Speaker 3: was like, that's bad. That looks real bad, and Katie
- 45:11Speaker 3: was like, probably nothing bad. And then that was the
- 45:13Speaker 3: season ending injury.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Jimmy comes in gets hurt and then obviously Perty goes
- 45:17Speaker 1: on his run. But then you lose, and it's like
- 45:19Speaker 1: there's this tension all off season between Eagles and Niners,
- 45:22Speaker 1: and it was real. The Niners felt, like John Lynch
- 45:24Speaker 1: said it publicly like that doesn't count, like that that
- 45:27Speaker 1: you dismissing it, like that wasn't the real, Like you
- 45:29Speaker 1: beat us?
- 45:29Speaker 3: Ye did? Do you know what the most badass quote
- 45:31Speaker 3: of that No one ever brings up this quote, but
- 45:33Speaker 3: it was the most bad ass in the world, and
- 45:36Speaker 3: it really it really fired me up about brock Perdy is.
- 45:40Speaker 3: I think it was months after the game someone asked him,
- 45:44Speaker 3: They said on that when when Reddick hit you, Yeah,
- 45:48Speaker 3: what were you seeing? And he said, I saw are
- 45:51Speaker 3: you wide open for a seventy yard touchdown? And he
- 45:54Speaker 3: said that, and I was like the whole I was
- 45:58Speaker 3: good so far. I was getting so fired up. I
- 46:00Speaker 3: was like that Bertie, he just it was and by
- 46:03Speaker 3: the way he didn't say it like a talking away. Yeah,
- 46:05Speaker 3: he doesn't happen to He's like, I'll tell you what
- 46:07Speaker 3: I saw. I saw. I saw Brandon Ayuk wide open
- 46:09Speaker 3: for a seventy yard touchdown. Good.
- 46:12Speaker 1: And then now it takes all that and then these
- 46:14Speaker 1: two major comebacks, and it's like, I'm talking to you
- 46:17Speaker 1: on Thursday, Super Bowl Sunday. Is it anxiety? Is it excitement?
- 46:22Speaker 1: Because I feel like there's so much baggage and of course,
- 46:25Speaker 1: you guys haven't won since you were a teenager in.
- 46:27Speaker 3: Ninety two eleven. There was ninety four, Yeah, the ninety
- 46:30Speaker 3: four seas, the ninety four season.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Seventy fifth anniversary with the retro jerseys, which.
- 46:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll tell you what, man, I think after that
- 46:39Speaker 3: NFC Championship game, there is there is a creepy level
- 46:45Speaker 3: of calmness because I think like the forty nine Ers
- 46:50Speaker 3: have responded in both of their playoff games in a
- 46:54Speaker 3: way that I think makes forty nine Ers fans comfortable
- 46:57Speaker 3: on a deep level. I think, you know, the defense
- 47:01Speaker 3: stepped up when they were giving up. We were just
- 47:03Speaker 3: giving up all the run, all the rushing yards in
- 47:05Speaker 3: the Nfcampionship game. And then to watch Kyle and Steve
- 47:10Speaker 3: Wilkes and all these guys make these halftime adjustments and
- 47:14Speaker 3: come out and you're like, oh, this is watching the
- 47:18Speaker 3: Patriots as we all did for twenty years, be a dynasty.
- 47:22Speaker 3: The thing that you noticed was that Belichick was untouchable
- 47:26Speaker 3: after his halftime adjustment. Was it when he would come in,
- 47:29Speaker 3: he would just figure out what the problem was and
- 47:32Speaker 3: there was a solution to it. And I think that's
- 47:34Speaker 3: where I was the most nervous this entire season was
- 47:37Speaker 3: halftime of the NFC Championship game, because I'm going, can
- 47:39Speaker 3: Kyle make the adjustments? And they make the changes, and
- 47:43Speaker 3: then you see him come out. We get that field
- 47:45Speaker 3: goal on the first drive and you're like, that's not enough.
- 47:47Speaker 3: We're down a lot more than that. And then you
- 47:50Speaker 3: just see Wilkes makes the adjustments. We start stopping their run.
- 47:54Speaker 3: We start, you know, and.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Then they start dropping some passes that that was big.
- 47:58Speaker 3: You get that off the face mask play. And I
- 48:01Speaker 3: saw someone online say, finally Kyle gets his own version
- 48:05Speaker 3: of the catch. Said, Kyle gets his version because the
- 48:10Speaker 3: EDLM catch called the.
- 48:11Speaker 1: Lady bub catch because afterwards an Aaron Andrews interviewed Ayuki.
- 48:14Speaker 1: I saw a lady bug this morning.
- 48:15Speaker 3: I love dude. I love Ayuk. And you know, for
- 48:21Speaker 3: people that don't realize Kyle was the offensive coordinator of
- 48:23Speaker 3: the Falcons when they lost to the Patriots with that
- 48:25Speaker 3: Edelman catch, He's kind of always had things like that
- 48:28Speaker 3: go against him. So to have something like that go
- 48:31Speaker 3: with him was like this kind of like, hey, let's go.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Let's go, guys.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Look I gave I gave the stat this morning on
- 48:39Speaker 1: Good Morning Football. If they come back from a seven
- 48:41Speaker 1: point deficit in the Super Bowl, Kyle Shanahan will be
- 48:46Speaker 1: the first coach in NFL history to come back from
- 48:49Speaker 1: a seven point second half despicit in a divisional round game,
- 48:52Speaker 1: a Championship round game, and a Super Bowl. Could you
- 48:54Speaker 1: imagine the narrative suddenly being Kyle Shanahan clutch second half quarterback.
- 48:59Speaker 3: What has been the knock on him the whole time?
- 49:01Speaker 3: So I think, honestly, with this Super Bowl, just as
- 49:05Speaker 3: a forty nine understand letting go, I'm just letting go
- 49:08Speaker 3: and I'm just going to enjoy it. I just I
- 49:11Speaker 3: love this team. I love the way they've been built.
- 49:14Speaker 3: I love the way that Kyle went and got Steve Wilkes, who,
- 49:17Speaker 3: in my opinion, should have been the head coach of
- 49:20Speaker 3: the Carolina Panthers. Sure, so he gets he gets passed
- 49:23Speaker 3: over for that job. Great, Now you got a guy
- 49:26Speaker 3: that's fired up. You got a guy that wants to
- 49:27Speaker 3: prove something. He was up in the booth. Then we
- 49:30Speaker 3: hit those three game losing skid before the bye week,
- 49:35Speaker 3: and now he's down on the field. And now he
- 49:37Speaker 3: even admits like, I love having those guys fired up.
- 49:39Speaker 3: I love seeing him. I love we lose Halfonga. Who's
- 49:43Speaker 3: my guy, He's our, he's our, he's our new Ronnie
- 49:47Speaker 3: lot Yep, you lose him, and you have people step up.
- 49:53Speaker 3: All these guys step up and just play their ass off.
- 49:57Speaker 1: Travarious Ward is a corner, but he was maybe the
- 49:59Speaker 1: best corner in football this.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Year, Travarius Ward. And now he's playing his old team. Yeah,
- 50:03Speaker 3: you know. Now he's playing the Chiefs, and and I'm
- 50:06Speaker 3: just I'm very excited for this game. I'm very excited
- 50:08Speaker 3: for this game. I hope it's a great game, but
- 50:11Speaker 3: I just, man, I don't want to do that thing
- 50:13Speaker 3: where I'm like.
- 50:17Speaker 1: A measured approach to this and it's okay, so questions
- 50:21Speaker 1: when when do you arrive to Vegas?
- 50:24Speaker 3: Get in on Saturday. So for those of you that
- 50:27Speaker 3: don't know, UH going to a super Bowl, you have
- 50:32Speaker 3: to know people that have hotel rooms. Because I don't
- 50:36Speaker 3: make enough money to afford a hotel room in Las
- 50:39Speaker 3: Vegas for the super Bowl. I don't make enough money
- 50:42Speaker 3: to buy a super Bowl ticket. So this is all friendship,
- 50:47Speaker 3: and this is all like Lee's hook it up, Lee's So.
- 50:51Speaker 3: About a month ago, Shane Shane Gillis texted me and
- 50:56Speaker 3: he was like, you all got a super Bowl and
- 50:59Speaker 3: that is during the divisional round. During the divisional round. Now,
- 51:04Speaker 3: I don't drink. I quit drinking about eleven years ago.
- 51:08Speaker 3: I am vibed in other ways, so I don't drink alcohol.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Shane obviously drinks alcohol so much so that he's the
- 51:15Speaker 3: new face of bud Light.
- 51:16Speaker 1: It's a bud Light of his last thing.
- 51:18Speaker 3: I love it. I love it. Good for him. I
- 51:20Speaker 3: love that guy. So Shane Shane texts me you are
- 51:24Speaker 3: to super Bowl, and I said.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Because of your Niners fandom or because just football.
- 51:28Speaker 3: Just football. He just wants to hang. He just wants
- 51:30Speaker 3: to He just wants to brow to hang. You know,
- 51:32Speaker 3: we don't see each other a lot anymore because he
- 51:34Speaker 3: lives in Austin, and so I was like, yeah, dude,
- 51:37Speaker 3: But he texted me and he's like, do you want
- 51:38Speaker 3: to go to the Super Bowl? I said, listen, Shane,
- 51:40Speaker 3: if it's the forty nine ers, one thousand percent, of course,
- 51:43Speaker 3: no brainer. If it's not the forty nine ers, I
- 51:46Speaker 3: appreciate the offer, but no, I don't want to go. Yeah,
- 51:49Speaker 3: because if you don't drink alcohol, Las Vegas is useless, useless.
- 51:55Speaker 3: It's a useless town if you do not drink alcohol.
- 51:58Speaker 3: If you've been there before, if you've been there and
- 52:01Speaker 3: drank and now you don't drink, it especially sucks. So
- 52:05Speaker 3: I'm like, dude, I'm trying to go to Vegas and
- 52:07Speaker 3: watch everyone get blacked out and watch what the Lions
- 52:11Speaker 3: and the Ravens like. I'm not I'm kind of not
- 52:14Speaker 3: down for that. Shane being Shane being like After I
- 52:18Speaker 3: say that, he's like, it's pretty weird you turned down
- 52:20Speaker 3: super Bowl ticket. You just keep saying that to me.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Turned it turned it down, You turned it down.
- 52:24Speaker 3: That's what he saying. He keeps going, pretty crave, pretty
- 52:27Speaker 3: weird you turned out super Bowl ticket so he gave
- 52:29Speaker 3: his tickets away. I think I think he's bringing his
- 52:31Speaker 3: dad in a couple buddies he might bring. I think
- 52:33Speaker 3: McCusker and they just were on Rogan by the way, excellent. Yeah,
- 52:38Speaker 3: they're the best mssp uh sot of tone to everybody.
- 52:43Speaker 3: And so I said this to Shane. I go, listen,
- 52:46Speaker 3: I did turn down Super Bowl tickets, but will you
- 52:49Speaker 3: let me crash on your hotel floor if the forty
- 52:52Speaker 3: nine Ers go? All I need to do is I
- 52:55Speaker 3: just needed a floor in a pillow. Yeah, and I'm
- 52:59Speaker 3: gold school, old school dude. I'll pull my arms inside
- 53:02Speaker 3: my t shirt totally like that.
- 53:04Speaker 1: I've done the bat Like.
- 53:05Speaker 3: Actually, you know what, dude, I wish I would show
- 53:07Speaker 3: you the text I call bathtub. I go, dude, if
- 53:09Speaker 3: anyone else coming, I'm sleeping bathtub. And Chane's such a
- 53:13Speaker 3: big sports fan and he's such a sweety pie on
- 53:16Speaker 3: the inside that when the forty nine Ers won, he
- 53:19Speaker 3: texted me and was like, dude, you're coming, You're coming, right,
- 53:24Speaker 3: And yes, I'm like, I'm coming and kai crash at
- 53:27Speaker 3: your hotel. He's like, it is pretty crazy. You turnnuts.
- 53:32Speaker 3: It is always with it and then finally he was like, yeah, dude,
- 53:35Speaker 3: if you want to crash, you can crash at my hotel.
- 53:38Speaker 3: And then Michael Chay, a lot of people don't know
- 53:41Speaker 3: big forty nine Ers fan.
- 53:42Speaker 1: Is he really?
- 53:43Speaker 3: Yeah? So he grew up in New York City.
- 53:45Speaker 1: He's a one day Michael Chay.
- 53:47Speaker 3: Sure, he's a forty nine Er fan and the best
- 53:49Speaker 3: forty nine in the most Michael Chay way possible. He's
- 53:52Speaker 3: a forty nine Ers fan because his older brother was
- 53:54Speaker 3: a Giants fan and it tasted him off to cheer
- 53:58Speaker 3: for the forty nine Ers. He's just an antagonist.
- 54:00Speaker 1: I love that.
- 54:00Speaker 3: So he's he's a lifelong forty nine Er fan. So
- 54:03Speaker 3: we text about games all the time, and we've talked
- 54:05Speaker 3: about going in to a playoff game, but blah blah
- 54:08Speaker 3: blah blah. But you know, he said, Hey, I'm gonna
- 54:12Speaker 3: ask SNL and NBC if they can get me some tickets.
- 54:16Speaker 1: Sports is a huge partnership with the NFL.
- 54:19Speaker 3: And I was like, dude, I was like, if you can,
- 54:22Speaker 3: please get me one, and he's like, dude, you got it.
- 54:26Speaker 3: And then and then so I bought a plane ticket
- 54:29Speaker 3: I bought you know, I got Shane to say I
- 54:31Speaker 3: could stay and he's.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Got to tell room tickets and I'll tell you if
- 54:34Speaker 1: you go with Jay, and it's with the NBC thing,
- 54:36Speaker 1: like you're gonna get to go to the tailgate, You're
- 54:38Speaker 1: gonna get to all the cool stuff that comes.
- 54:40Speaker 3: See that, because Chay this week was like we got him,
- 54:42Speaker 3: and I was like, I'm very excited and I have
- 54:47Speaker 3: very good friends. I'm a very lucky man who has
- 54:49Speaker 3: good friends that are gonna do.
- 54:50Speaker 1: Too quick ones be for we wrap Which jersey will
- 54:52Speaker 1: you wear or do you not wear jerseys?
- 54:53Speaker 3: I don't wear I have jerseys at home.
- 54:58Speaker 1: I kind of think like an Armstead jersey would be
- 55:00Speaker 1: pretty bad ass for this.
- 55:00Speaker 3: I mean, he's the best. I hope he wear wins
- 55:02Speaker 3: Walter Payton May of the Year. But I as every
- 55:06Speaker 3: as every as every true fan nodes, I already know
- 55:11Speaker 3: what I'm wearing game day. It's the exact outfit I
- 55:14Speaker 3: warder in the NFC Championship Games.
- 55:15Speaker 1: The persitions were the same as I think, underwear, socks, everything.
- 55:19Speaker 3: It has not been washed, Yeah, it has been folded,
- 55:22Speaker 3: it to the side, yeah, and it will be put
- 55:25Speaker 3: into a backpack and taken to Las Vegas. And I
- 55:28Speaker 3: will wear exactly what I wore when the forty nine
- 55:31Speaker 3: ers came back on the Lions Elliot. That's a I
- 55:33Speaker 3: will be if you if if they if they cut
- 55:36Speaker 3: to Michael ch during the Super Bowl and you see
- 55:39Speaker 3: my big dumb head next to him, and you go, oh,
- 55:41Speaker 3: it's so to wearing. It's the same thing I ordered
- 55:43Speaker 3: in the NFC Championship game. So you and during the
- 55:46Speaker 3: Backers game and it just doesn't change. It just doesn't chang.
- 55:51Speaker 1: My last thing, I was in CVS. I live in Brooklyn.
- 55:54Speaker 1: I was in CVS on Henry Street and I'm there
- 55:57Speaker 1: and I'm buying like laundry detergent or something, and I
- 56:01Speaker 1: hear this very familiar voice behind me, being very kind
- 56:03Speaker 1: to the attendant talking about how to do the service,
- 56:07Speaker 1: you know, check out thing. And I'm like, I know
- 56:09Speaker 1: that voice sit home from TV. I'm like, who is
- 56:11Speaker 1: that of a grand Paul Giamatti.
- 56:14Speaker 3: The man, He's the man, He's the man. Yeah, there's
- 56:18Speaker 3: no one, there's there's like that Billion's cast. Every single
- 56:23Speaker 3: one of them just absolutely ruled. But Paul was a
- 56:26Speaker 3: guy I only had, I think in seven seasons, I
- 56:29Speaker 3: have seen one scene with him uh No, I had
- 56:32Speaker 3: to see like two scenes where he walks by me
- 56:35Speaker 3: and like looks or whatever. But dude, I'm gonna tell
- 56:37Speaker 3: you right now. At table reads, I would always find
- 56:41Speaker 3: a time to go talk to Paul and try to
- 56:43Speaker 3: make him laugh because he's got an unbelievable sense of humor.
- 56:46Speaker 3: He is so down to earth, he is just the man.
- 56:49Speaker 3: And then they yell action and you're like, oh, you're
- 56:51Speaker 3: one of the greatest of all time. It's not even
- 56:53Speaker 3: I don't know how to act. I'm a comic. That's
- 56:55Speaker 3: just bullshitting show. But I was just learning how to
- 56:59Speaker 3: act when I was on Billions. When you watch Damian Lewis,
- 57:02Speaker 3: when you watch Paul Giamatti, when you watch Maggie Sift
- 57:04Speaker 3: or David Costable act like, Oh, that's how it's done.
- 57:09Speaker 3: I feel like one of those. I feel like one
- 57:11Speaker 3: of those. I feel like one of those college basketball
- 57:13Speaker 3: players that started playing tight end my sis. You know
- 57:16Speaker 3: what I mean. Oh, I don't have football Allie.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Cooks play on the football, but I'll figure it out.
- 57:23Speaker 3: Yeah, dude. I was like Jimmy Graham. I was like, dude,
- 57:25Speaker 3: I don't know. I can jelled for it. If you
- 57:27Speaker 3: want to jump with the football I can, And that
- 57:29Speaker 3: was that's how I felt. I just felt like a
- 57:31Speaker 3: like a basketball player that was trying to learn football
- 57:34Speaker 3: knowledge from these guys that are lifers. But there. Yeah,
- 57:37Speaker 3: he's Paul Giamatti is the man. So good.
- 57:39Speaker 1: All right, well, app so appreciate you coming on. You've
- 57:41Speaker 1: got a busy day, real quick for the listeners your
- 57:44Speaker 1: podcast and where your tour dates are in the upcoming months.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Because I'll say it again, I said, after I saw you,
- 57:50Speaker 1: Burt Kreisher had his big tour and there were you
- 57:52Speaker 1: guys were in Queen's at Forest Hills and you and
- 57:55Speaker 1: with the sun out still you and Shane Gillis absolutely
- 57:59Speaker 1: stole the show. And I'm like, I will follow Shane
- 58:01Speaker 1: and Soda to any stand up back that they do.
- 58:03Speaker 1: You guys both crushed it so hard that night.
- 58:05Speaker 3: Yeah, that will fun. Man going back to back like that.
- 58:08Speaker 3: He's the man. I'm so happy for him. I'm so
- 58:10Speaker 3: excited for SNL on thes Yeah, we were tecching about it.
- 58:15Speaker 1: So because I'm like mister like NFL Network and I've
- 58:19Speaker 1: been on this Chiefs ride, I've become very friendly with
- 58:21Speaker 1: like Paul Rudd and Eric stone Street and those guys.
- 58:24Speaker 1: And I've gotten introduced to Heidi Gardner, who's unbelievable and
- 58:28Speaker 1: she's a huge KC fan and she has the open invite.
- 58:31Speaker 1: She's like, anytime you want to come to us, and
- 58:33Speaker 1: now I'm sure it's one time only. I hit her up.
- 58:35Speaker 1: She's like, I got you, so I think I'm gonna go.
- 58:37Speaker 1: And you love what I'm taking. I think I'm taking
- 58:39Speaker 1: Cliff Kingsbury because he's a huge Shane Gillis fan.
- 58:41Speaker 3: Tool Here's what people don't know. Shane Gillis is, I
- 58:46Speaker 3: mean number one. He's the best comedian in the world
- 58:48Speaker 3: right now. Him and Nate Bargetsia at the two best comedians.
- 58:50Speaker 3: They're also my two best friends, best friends. Yeah, yeah,
- 58:52Speaker 3: that's pretty sick. That's my dog on a chee toy
- 58:57Speaker 3: f y. That's why the crinkling sound is. Shane's friends
- 59:01Speaker 3: with so many NFL players.
- 59:03Speaker 1: He says. Gabe Davis is one of his best friends.
- 59:06Speaker 3: Uh CMC. He texts with CMC all the time. They're like,
- 59:11Speaker 3: He's like, yeah, CMC's fired up for this game. He'll
- 59:13Speaker 3: text me and I'll be like, oh, yeah, that's awesome. Yeah,
- 59:16Speaker 3: Gabe to hit the celly, gave hit the selly that
- 59:19Speaker 3: he wanted.
- 59:20Speaker 1: It's so funny, like you know, if you don't know
- 59:22Speaker 1: what how It's like Shane Gillis was like, I'm going
- 59:24Speaker 1: to give you a crazy meme that I saw on
- 59:25Speaker 1: the internet and if you score a touchdown, you've got
- 59:27Speaker 1: to reenact it. And Gabe Davis did it in a game.
- 59:29Speaker 3: It's Game's demand. Yeah, that's so good. That's awesome. Yeah,
- 59:32Speaker 3: I'm very excited. I'm gonna get there.
- 59:34Speaker 1: You can be on tour that weekend.
- 59:35Speaker 3: I'm in Cleveland, so I'm gonna miss it, but I'm
- 59:37Speaker 3: gonna absolutely watch it. I'm gonna I mean, I love
- 59:41Speaker 3: Chaine and I'm going to be seeing him obviously this
- 59:44Speaker 3: weekend in Vegas. I'm going to go down to Austin.
- 59:47Speaker 3: I'm doing Rogan's Club in March. But everyone was like,
- 59:50Speaker 3: we gotta see S and L and You're like, yeah,
- 59:52Speaker 3: but I also have to pay my rent. So I
- 59:54Speaker 3: have five shows in Cleveland, so that I'm definitely very excited,
- 59:58Speaker 3: and I think he's going to do incredible.
- 59:59Speaker 1: I think it's podcast is Soda Your last Midst episode
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: great with Chad Daniels, who is one of my favorites.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: FA Comedian out There a new episode with Carmen Lynch
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: about her parents meeting. It's just basically, man, I learned
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: when I left the bonfire and need a place to
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: go to plug my dates, but also I just want
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: to place to hang out, so I got to have
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: you on there. I'd love to hear about NFL stories.
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: I got real stuff that I you know, I don't
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: want to get you fired, but I do want to
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: know I got good.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Yeah, you do it there, I'll do it. I'll do it.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: I did barstool last week and I was kind of
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: tight left a little bit, and then I maybe regret that.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: Should have tried just opened the bag because that was
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: a bad audience.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: Let it, dude, let it loose. But dude, I appreciate
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: you having me on man and obviously Bang Bang Niner
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: Gang get that revenge baby, Good luck, dude.
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: Thanks dude.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: That's a true fan. That's Dan Soder. I'm telling you,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I wasn't just blowing his tires up. I think his
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: stand up. Have you watched his stand up?
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: Are I haven't. I've heard about him a lot, but yeah, no,
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: I haven't. I feel like working with you on the show.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: I am finding so many more stand up comedians.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: I mean this guys, he's amazing. His podcast amazing and
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: if you just could tell, he's just got a great
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: voice and he is hilarious. But he also is diehard
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Niners fan. I know him because I became really friendly
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: with Mike McDaniel. And the first thing McDaniel said to
