- 0:39Speaker 4: walks around in stalks, babysitters. Yeah, you just got Sometimes
- 0:58Speaker 4: deadness matter, but dying is such a bitch.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Congratulations, you are still a lot.
- 1:21Speaker 5: All right?
- 1:21Speaker 3: So Steve, we're here celebrating your birthday. Man, So wait
- 1:26Speaker 3: May fourth, and you're not a Star Wars fan?
- 1:28Speaker 6: No, I think I'm like the first thing from it.
- 1:31Speaker 6: I like the original trilogy, but it kind of like
- 1:34Speaker 6: starts and stops with that.
- 1:35Speaker 3: To be honest, dude, you told me last week that
- 1:38Speaker 3: you were a fan of the jj abramsks.
- 1:42Speaker 6: Oh man, that's gonna get me in hot water. Yeah,
- 1:46Speaker 6: thank you.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Welcome to your birthday episode.
- 1:48Speaker 3: We have a whole crowd of people here that we
- 1:51Speaker 3: have to introduce outside of me, Stephen Chuck, So I'm
- 1:54Speaker 3: just gonna go in order here. Uh, we have on
- 1:57Speaker 3: Jordan from the movie Den what's a dude?
- 2:00Speaker 7: Hey, what's going on? Thank you for having me on
- 2:02Speaker 7: and happy birthday, dude.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Yeah, thank you. Thank you.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I don't know if you I don't know if you know, Steve.
- 2:07Speaker 3: But in honor of your birthday, Jordan lit his truck
- 2:10Speaker 3: on fire.
- 2:12Speaker 6: Too soon.
- 2:14Speaker 4: I didn't.
- 2:15Speaker 8: I didn't light it. I blew it up. That's what happened.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Man, make a wish.
- 2:21Speaker 8: Uh those exploding candles, you know what I mean?
- 2:23Speaker 5: Oh my god, Jordan's out there like trying to get
- 2:27Speaker 5: the fire out. And then yeah, and then we also
- 2:34Speaker 5: have on GC from Face the Movies, what's going on? Brother? Dude?
- 2:38Speaker 9: It's gonna be hard to follow Jordan's intro, But what's up?
- 2:41Speaker 6: Guys?
- 2:41Speaker 9: Thank you for having me as well? And Steven, Happy birthday, brother,
- 2:44Speaker 9: Thank you, thank you.
- 2:45Speaker 6: I appreciate man.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Unfortunately, in the ranking of your friends, GC did not
- 2:49Speaker 3: light anything on fire for your birthday. I did not
- 2:52Speaker 3: keep that in mind for the future.
- 2:53Speaker 6: I was just about to ask that, like, what'd you
- 2:55Speaker 6: land on fire for me?
- 2:58Speaker 3: But then also we have on Christian from Planet h
- 3:01Speaker 3: what's up, dude.
- 3:02Speaker 4: What's going on? Happy birthday, Steve? I want to say
- 3:06Speaker 4: really quick, this is so fucking I could curse on
- 3:10Speaker 4: here right, yeah, yeah, yeah, this is so goddamn impressive.
- 3:13Speaker 4: How everybody here has got great cameras, great audio. This
- 3:18Speaker 4: is the first podcast I've ever done where I'm just like, wow,
- 3:21Speaker 4: this sounds so good. I'm so impressed. Like, people, please
- 3:26Speaker 4: take notes. If you're gonna do this, don't set up
- 3:29Speaker 4: your damn iPhone for a podcast against the wall and
- 3:32Speaker 4: talk to it. Like, get the equipment. You don't have
- 3:33Speaker 4: to spend a lot of month get just get get
- 3:35Speaker 4: a microphone. Make it sound good. This is I am
- 3:38Speaker 4: so just bravo. I'm so goddamn impressed by this is amazing.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Like I'm just I'm genuinely, like so happy about it.
- 3:46Speaker 5: So dude, thank you.
- 3:47Speaker 4: We're very happy to be here.
- 3:48Speaker 5: So we this was sort.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Of like an evolution thing because the first microphone that
- 3:53Speaker 3: I bought was like a thirty dollars Amazon thing, and
- 3:57Speaker 3: then we did I didn't want to invent a lot
- 4:00Speaker 3: of money because I was like, if we get five
- 4:02Speaker 3: or six episodes in and this thing is just not
- 4:04Speaker 3: doing well, I'm just gonna, you know, give up on it.
- 4:06Speaker 3: We got four episodes in, I was like, fuck, man,
- 4:08Speaker 3: I got an upgrade. So now I have an eighty
- 4:11Speaker 3: dollars mic and I'm so much more confident.
- 4:14Speaker 5: Just so just so you guys.
- 4:15Speaker 6: Know, Chris are giving off different energy.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Now.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'm giving off new bike energy.
- 4:21Speaker 6: Bro.
- 4:23Speaker 8: It sounds good.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Thank you, thank you.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Uh so Steve we well, clearly, man, you're a host
- 4:30Speaker 3: on this podcast, so it was very important to us
- 4:31Speaker 3: that we dedicate an episode to you.
- 4:34Speaker 6: I appreciate you, guys.
- 4:35Speaker 3: It sounds like an in remembrance, like I feel like
- 4:37Speaker 3: you died and.
- 4:38Speaker 6: I definitely didn't die.
- 4:41Speaker 3: What we we related really early on in our friendship
- 4:46Speaker 3: over Italian horror. It was something that you When I
- 4:50Speaker 3: followed you, you were posting this stuff. I was super
- 4:52Speaker 3: impressive what you're doing.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Uh.
- 4:54Speaker 3: We became friends and one thing that we really bonded
- 4:56Speaker 3: over was Italian horror. So obviously in the future of
- 5:00Speaker 3: the show, there's a lot more of it coming that
- 5:02Speaker 3: we're going to be covering on this but I figured
- 5:05Speaker 3: to prep people for the eventual season of Ghallo that's
- 5:08Speaker 3: coming in twenty twenty six. By the way, I wanted
- 5:12Speaker 3: to find out from you your top five essential Italian
- 5:19Speaker 3: horror films, and I put together this ensemble cast of
- 5:22Speaker 3: characters to not only celebrate, but to also talk about
- 5:26Speaker 3: these movies and just kind of talk about the genre,
- 5:28Speaker 3: and we have a wide range here of knowledge in
- 5:31Speaker 3: Italian horror. Like Jordan, we have like infested with our
- 5:35Speaker 3: bad uh you know, desire for Italian horror. So he's
- 5:40Speaker 3: slowly learning. I don't think GC knows where Italy is
- 5:43Speaker 3: on a map, but.
- 5:44Speaker 4: That's fine, that's all right, that's all right.
- 5:47Speaker 3: I don't either, so it's okay. And then of course
- 5:51Speaker 3: Christian plants ah do. We had to get you on
- 5:53Speaker 3: absolutely and we figured there was nobody better.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Well, my question is if I disagree with his list,
- 5:58Speaker 4: can I talk shit?
- 5:59Speaker 6: Oh that's all fine, I'm looking to it.
- 6:01Speaker 4: Okay, good, good.
- 6:04Speaker 3: What I want to know, though, is because your list
- 6:07Speaker 3: is good, your list is really good, So I don't know,
- 6:09Speaker 3: like there's some interplay here, but I don't want to
- 6:12Speaker 3: give out the whole list.
- 6:13Speaker 4: No, I'm petty. If I don't like the order, I'll
- 6:15Speaker 4: talk shit.
- 6:16Speaker 6: Oh shit, oh man. The stakes are high now.
- 6:21Speaker 5: But I want to ask.
- 6:22Speaker 3: I want to throw it out to everybody, and I'm
- 6:24Speaker 3: gonna go one by one because there's varying degrees of
- 6:29Speaker 3: knowledge here, and I'm actually gonna start with Chuck. What
- 6:33Speaker 3: if somebody comes up to you and says, like Hey,
- 6:35Speaker 3: what's your favorite Italian horror film?
- 6:37Speaker 5: What are you gonna go with?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Well, my first pick would be Torso.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Damn yeah, right for Augusta at that thing.
- 6:44Speaker 10: Yeah, I love that movie.
- 6:47Speaker 7: Right for the Gusta Jordan, What about you? It's it's
- 6:51Speaker 7: got to be a faulty film. So I'm gonna go
- 6:53Speaker 7: with The Beyond. If not, it would be it would
- 6:54Speaker 7: be The Church for sure.
- 6:56Speaker 5: Damn.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Okay, I was I knew you were gonna say The Beyond,
- 7:00Speaker 3: but the Church.
- 7:01Speaker 7: I loved the Church. I thought that was a phenomenal
- 7:03Speaker 7: because that's.
- 7:04Speaker 6: A really good choice too.
- 7:05Speaker 8: Yeah, the Church.
- 7:06Speaker 5: Yeah, that's really good. GC.
- 7:08Speaker 3: I know that you were not the biggest Italian horror fan,
- 7:12Speaker 3: but let's see what you got, dude.
- 7:14Speaker 9: The thing is, it's not that I'm not a fan,
- 7:16Speaker 9: I'm just not experienced. Like I mean, you guys are
- 7:20Speaker 9: slowly introducing me, you know, getting the toe wet because uh,
- 7:25Speaker 9: obviously the Beyond I got because of you guys. And
- 7:29Speaker 9: I mean, and uh, I know I've seen Cannibal Holocaust
- 7:32Speaker 9: by myself, like a long time ago. I saw like
- 7:34Speaker 9: a very crappy version of it. So yeah, man, I
- 7:38Speaker 9: mean that's that's as far as my experience, I'm honestly like, I, yeah,
- 7:43Speaker 9: that's okay.
- 7:44Speaker 6: Is about a crash course? Oh yeah?
- 7:47Speaker 4: Man?
- 7:47Speaker 9: Like when you when you invited me, I was like,
- 7:49Speaker 9: I do not deserve to be here like you horror gods,
- 7:54Speaker 9: But here I am.
- 7:55Speaker 6: Somehow, I'm putting that down on my LinkedIn profile.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I wouldn't go that far for me. I'm still dipping
- 8:01Speaker 2: my toes in as well.
- 8:04Speaker 3: DC's like, uh, does the scene in Beetlejuice Beetle Juice
- 8:07Speaker 3: when he speaks Italian for a couple minutes count.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Christian? What about you?
- 8:12Speaker 6: Man?
- 8:13Speaker 4: It's it, hands down, It's zombie. You just know there's
- 8:17Speaker 4: no two ways of it it. I can't believe Chuck's
- 8:18Speaker 4: got the shirt on it? Does he doesn't say? He
- 8:21Speaker 4: says torso sorry. That's another way of saying like, please
- 8:25Speaker 4: leave me alone like that pick though for real?
- 8:30Speaker 5: And Steve, you have five of them?
- 8:33Speaker 3: So to get this ball rolling, which there's there's clearly
- 8:36Speaker 3: no rush I got. First of all, I'm drinking this
- 8:39Speaker 3: wonderful Wildwood D's vodka lemon iced tea. This is actually
- 8:44Speaker 3: a listener out of Wildwood, New Jersey. So if he's
- 8:47Speaker 3: a listening shout out to him, But Steve, what is
- 8:51Speaker 3: your Do you have five or do you have six?
- 8:53Speaker 3: I thought you had like a I.
- 8:55Speaker 6: Have five with like room for others? I guess depending
- 8:59Speaker 6: on where this goes.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Do we have like a can you can we kick
- 9:02Speaker 3: off with like a what do you call that?
- 9:05Speaker 5: When you have five?
- 9:06Speaker 6: But you have an extra honorable mentions?
- 9:09Speaker 3: Well, give us one honorable mention before we get into
- 9:12Speaker 3: the top five.
- 9:13Speaker 6: Oh shit, so that throws them off? Yeah?
- 9:19Speaker 8: Uh so.
- 9:23Speaker 6: I would say one that I don't hear get talked
- 9:25Speaker 6: about enough. A stage fright.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Mm hmm okay, okay, any stage fright fans in here, sure, yeah, okay, okay.
- 9:32Speaker 3: So what do you think of that pick? As a
- 9:34Speaker 3: outside the top five?
- 9:36Speaker 4: That's definitely yeah. I'm just glad it respectfully, I'm glad
- 9:39Speaker 4: that's not in his top five.
- 9:41Speaker 6: Uh.
- 9:42Speaker 4: But it's a good movie. I had a buddy that
- 9:44Speaker 4: kept telling me to watch it, watch it, watch it.
- 9:45Speaker 4: I think I had seen like a remake of it.
- 9:47Speaker 4: It might not have been a remake, but it was
- 9:48Speaker 4: when they came out like the two thousands. But I
- 9:51Speaker 4: finally found the DVD of that movie and it was good.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I forgot who directed that though. Was that so abby?
- 9:56Speaker 6: Was that something l Yeah?
- 9:57Speaker 4: Yeah, it was so yeah. I don't think it's his
- 10:00Speaker 4: best film either, but that's a good movie. That's a
- 10:03Speaker 4: good movie. I think it needs to find an audience
- 10:05Speaker 4: a little bit more. It's kind of I don't know
- 10:06Speaker 4: if it's still still in print on Blu ray or anything,
- 10:09Speaker 4: which I know few people. They don't buy those movies.
- 10:12Speaker 4: I mean, they don't stream those ways, they just buy them.
- 10:13Speaker 4: So I think it's why a lot of people haven't
- 10:14Speaker 4: seen it.
- 10:15Speaker 3: But you found the Anchor Bay DVD, right, I think
- 10:18Speaker 3: that or Bluey Aground.
- 10:19Speaker 4: One of the two.
- 10:19Speaker 5: One of those, Yeah, I remember seeing in one of
- 10:21Speaker 5: your videos.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Yes, Stage Fright is good, but I feel like it's
- 10:25Speaker 3: kind of got lost because the Napps put out that
- 10:26Speaker 3: Blu ray and then it just sort of disappeared, like
- 10:29Speaker 3: it just kind of went away and nobody.
- 10:31Speaker 5: Really talks about it. It is odd, though, that there
- 10:32Speaker 5: was a remake.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I always forget that there was a remake of that.
- 10:36Speaker 3: That's so strange, Steve, have you ever seen the remake?
- 10:39Speaker 6: I haven't seen the remake, but I just remember when
- 10:43Speaker 6: I was going into Swab's like his filmography, I mean,
- 10:47Speaker 6: there's only limited titles, but that one was one that
- 10:51Speaker 6: I just like, really gravitated towards. I just felt like
- 10:54Speaker 6: there was just something about it where just feels like
- 10:57Speaker 6: like a straight up slasher in a lot of ways.
- 10:59Speaker 6: And I just wish we had got more films from
- 11:03Speaker 6: him as a director. I mean, he only did what
- 11:06Speaker 6: for films in total?
- 11:08Speaker 5: Yeah, plus his appearance and Demons?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Yep, yeah, that's about it. Damn, dude. Is he still
- 11:15Speaker 3: I mean I feel terrible for asking this.
- 11:17Speaker 5: Is he still alive?
- 11:20Speaker 6: That's a good question.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Yeah, he's sixty seven.
- 11:23Speaker 5: Oh okay, nice.
- 11:24Speaker 6: He's got no excuses. Why doesn't he make any more movies?
- 11:29Speaker 6: Who's his agent?
- 11:30Speaker 3: You mean to tell me that guy got by on
- 11:34Speaker 3: three minutes of acting in Demons and four movies?
- 11:36Speaker 4: He's good, he.
- 11:39Speaker 6: Just cashed out. I guess whatever, man, But I mean,
- 11:42Speaker 6: I'll throw it to you guys. Did you guys feel
- 11:44Speaker 6: like after his run did you feel like the Italian
- 11:49Speaker 6: horror sub genre did you feel like we saw like
- 11:52Speaker 6: as many films like after that point? Because I felt
- 11:54Speaker 6: like that in my mind that seemed like where things
- 11:57Speaker 6: kind of everything kind of trailed off at them at
- 12:00Speaker 6: that point.
- 12:02Speaker 3: So I always think about these long running directors eventually
- 12:07Speaker 3: have a point where there's a fall off, right, like
- 12:10Speaker 3: Argento post Phenomena up until I mean, I feel like
- 12:14Speaker 3: he had a little bit of a resurgence with Dark Glasses,
- 12:16Speaker 3: But like his run in the nineties with his daughter
- 12:19Speaker 3: doing Phantom of the Opera and Dracula and The Card Player,
- 12:23Speaker 3: and like this is not a great run compared to
- 12:26Speaker 3: Suspiria and Barbert the Crystal Plumage Opera, all these original titles, Right,
- 12:30Speaker 3: So I always wonder what would it be like if
- 12:34Speaker 3: if our Gento directed Phenomena and just said Okay, I'm done,
- 12:38Speaker 3: like I put it down, would we look at his
- 12:41Speaker 3: legacy a little different?
- 12:43Speaker 5: So if MIKEL.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Swab posts whatever his final movie was, said I'm just
- 12:49Speaker 3: gonna keep making movies, but the next seven titles that
- 12:51Speaker 3: he put out until current day were not good, would
- 12:54Speaker 3: we look different at his career?
- 12:58Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 12:59Speaker 6: That's tough.
- 13:01Speaker 5: It's interesting, man, I mean.
- 13:02Speaker 6: I mean I would argue that suave. I think in
- 13:06Speaker 6: my eyes, he went four for four on the films
- 13:08Speaker 6: he put out. I mean, the sect didn't really connect
- 13:11Speaker 6: with me as much as his other ones. But I
- 13:14Speaker 6: wouldn't consider that a bad film by any means.
- 13:17Speaker 5: No, he had a very unique style, very unique style.
- 13:21Speaker 3: But yeah, you're right, he did come around in kind
- 13:23Speaker 3: of like that fading like prime, you know, and then
- 13:28Speaker 3: he I mean, honestly.
- 13:29Speaker 5: Though, if the Church or the Sect, if.
- 13:33Speaker 3: They had come out any earlier, I feel like it
- 13:36Speaker 3: still wouldn't.
- 13:38Speaker 5: I don't know. It's interesting.
- 13:40Speaker 3: He always felt a little, for lack of a better word,
- 13:44Speaker 3: more sophisticated. Like it always seemed like he had so
- 13:47Speaker 3: much more to say. He just had really striking visuals
- 13:50Speaker 3: along with that, like he was. No, you cannot look
- 13:53Speaker 3: at his movies and say like, oh, that's a basic
- 13:56Speaker 3: except stage fright. You look at the Church, it's very complicated.
- 13:59Speaker 3: There's a lot of imagery. It tells a lot you
- 14:01Speaker 3: look at it. I mean the Sect is like layer
- 14:04Speaker 3: and layer and layer of just substance, you know what
- 14:08Speaker 3: I mean?
- 14:09Speaker 5: No, for sure, I don't know. I don't know what
- 14:12Speaker 5: it's worth.
- 14:13Speaker 4: That guy has done a lot of movies after Cemetery Man,
- 14:16Speaker 4: but it's nothing. A lot of it is just movies
- 14:19Speaker 4: that are Italian did not cross over in America. Andreano
- 14:24Speaker 4: A Lavetti La Forza diunda Sagna like that kind of stuff.
- 14:28Speaker 4: So it's nothing that would ever cross our radar. I
- 14:31Speaker 4: don't even think they are horror films. They look like
- 14:33Speaker 4: dramas and like lifetime movies for Italian.
- 14:37Speaker 3: So but that's what's funny though, because Cemetery Man is
- 14:41Speaker 3: arguably one of the most American Italian films. Sure it's
- 14:47Speaker 3: it's heavily influenced by American film culture at that time,
- 14:50Speaker 3: especially in the nineties, So to kind of go out
- 14:53Speaker 3: like that is a little Maybe he felt like he
- 14:56Speaker 3: lost his way. Maybe he was like, I just don't
- 14:59Speaker 3: or just.
- 14:59Speaker 6: Didn't have anything say at that.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Point, what do you do after Cemetery Man? I did?
- 15:07Speaker 4: Let me? Let me do or be in one movie
- 15:09Speaker 4: like that, I will retire immediately and I'll do a
- 15:12Speaker 4: conventioned circuit every year. I'll come to a city near
- 15:15Speaker 4: you and I'll sign that one poster I did a
- 15:17Speaker 4: movie of.
- 15:18Speaker 3: You know, my favorite detail about Cemetery Man that nobody
- 15:22Speaker 3: ever notices, you guys, probably did nobody ever picks up
- 15:25Speaker 3: on is after the bus crash, all the students sing
- 15:28Speaker 3: a song about if they weren't on the bus, they
- 15:31Speaker 3: wouldn't have died yep, and it's like you don't think
- 15:34Speaker 3: about it because it's this music. But then you listen
- 15:36Speaker 3: to lyrics and you're like, what are they singing about?
- 15:38Speaker 3: Like they all died in the crash. Yeah, that's a
- 15:42Speaker 3: good one, man. Stage Fright is great. I definitely think
- 15:44Speaker 3: there is a four K needed in the future from
- 15:47Speaker 3: this place somebody, you know what I mean. It's always
- 15:50Speaker 3: any where.
- 15:51Speaker 6: And I'll keep pounding the table for those two films
- 15:54Speaker 6: to get the four K treatment.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Somebody's got to be working on it, right, Like these
- 15:58Speaker 3: things aren't just dead somewhere.
- 16:00Speaker 5: Somebody has to be.
- 16:01Speaker 6: What I thought i'd heard Blue Underground a while back
- 16:04Speaker 6: was supposed to be working on them fingers crossed.
- 16:07Speaker 5: I don't know, man, I don't know.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Let's uh, it's time to break into your top five
- 16:12Speaker 3: because right now there's only three of us yapping about
- 16:14Speaker 3: Italian horror.
- 16:17Speaker 8: Well, yeah, Stage Fright.
- 16:18Speaker 7: I've never seen it, so that's I can't I can't
- 16:20Speaker 7: input on that.
- 16:22Speaker 5: Seek it Out I've not seen as well. Yeah, seek
- 16:24Speaker 5: it out. It's a fun one.
- 16:25Speaker 3: You can get the blu ray I think for you know,
- 16:28Speaker 3: it's I don't think it's a terribly expensive one. It's
- 16:30Speaker 3: a basic synapse Blu Ray. But you're number five, Steve,
- 16:34Speaker 3: and I'm talking to you, but I'm looking directly at Christians.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I want to see his response.
- 16:40Speaker 4: I'm waiting pressures on.
- 16:42Speaker 6: Okay, I think for this one it feels like the
- 16:45Speaker 6: most successful. Like if I was to go to somebody
- 16:48Speaker 6: and be like, hey, you know you want to learn
- 16:50Speaker 6: more about Italian horror, I feel like to look at
- 16:54Speaker 6: none other than demons as your entry point to get
- 16:57Speaker 6: into it. So I felt like just growing up on
- 17:04Speaker 6: Evil Dead especially, that felt like that was my jumping
- 17:10Speaker 6: on Evil Dead was like my jumping on point for horror,
- 17:13Speaker 6: but demons in a way, it felt like it was
- 17:15Speaker 6: almost like the Italian horror equivalent of that. It kind
- 17:19Speaker 6: of you could kind of see, like, what what else
- 17:22Speaker 6: is out there from this point forward? So yeah, I
- 17:26Speaker 6: don't know, like I have nothing but the great memories
- 17:28Speaker 6: when it comes to watching both this one and the
- 17:31Speaker 6: second one. So what do you guys think?
- 17:33Speaker 5: Well, I'm talking.
- 17:35Speaker 3: I want to throw it over to Jordan because you
- 17:37Speaker 3: just got this in Napse four K of Yahn one
- 17:40Speaker 3: and two.
- 17:40Speaker 5: So what was your first experience with it?
- 17:43Speaker 2: Like?
- 17:43Speaker 8: Well, first I thought it was beautiful. I was could
- 17:46Speaker 8: not believe how good it looked.
- 17:48Speaker 7: I love the the the setting of a movie theater,
- 17:53Speaker 7: I mean, especially being you know all this loving film
- 17:55Speaker 7: and movies. The movie theater setting I thought was perfect. No,
- 18:00Speaker 7: I had a lot of I had. It was really fun.
- 18:02Speaker 7: The practical effects were phenomenal. My favorite part was the ending.
- 18:06Speaker 7: So if anybody hasn't seen it, uh, I don't know
- 18:10Speaker 7: gc I'm gonna spoil it, so sorry, but I love
- 18:14Speaker 7: the whole thing where you think it's it's over and
- 18:17Speaker 7: the credits start going and then oh nope, it's it's
- 18:19Speaker 7: a end of the world scenario and the main character
- 18:22Speaker 7: is actually actually is uh turning at the end, And
- 18:25Speaker 7: I thought that was phenomenal.
- 18:26Speaker 8: I thought that was such a cool, cool way.
- 18:27Speaker 4: To end it.
- 18:28Speaker 7: And it was funny because I'm I'm a little more
- 18:31Speaker 7: I'm more diving into Italian ord right now the depth
- 18:34Speaker 7: of my toe. But that made me go back and like, okay,
- 18:38Speaker 7: is this like an Italian horror like theme that they
- 18:41Speaker 7: all do with their credits. So I went back to
- 18:43Speaker 7: almost all my movies and like, watch the ending.
- 18:45Speaker 8: Okay, did I miss anything?
- 18:46Speaker 7: Because a lot of times once the credits, it's all right,
- 18:48Speaker 7: I'm done main menu. Let's see what kind of special
- 18:50Speaker 7: features with stuff. And I didn't see much but Demons.
- 18:55Speaker 7: I I had a lot of fun with that. And
- 18:57Speaker 7: I don't know why it never had I had never
- 18:59Speaker 7: come across it, but I'm glad I finally did.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and Demons is like the like almost like the
- 19:07Speaker 3: greatest hits. You have Dario Argento presents, you know, and
- 19:11Speaker 3: then you have Limberto Baba directing, and it's so it's
- 19:14Speaker 3: it's so incredibly iconic, like the Mask.
- 19:18Speaker 5: The movie theater. Yep, there's so much about it.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I mean, I remember when I was learning about Italian horror,
- 19:23Speaker 3: I had read books and stuff like that, and I
- 19:25Speaker 3: saw so many images from Demons. I didn't even know
- 19:27Speaker 3: until I saw the movie and I'm like, oh, fuck,
- 19:30Speaker 3: that's what that is. I'm like, oh, that's what that is.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Oh that's what that is, over and over again, because
- 19:34Speaker 3: I just started putting together those pieces essentially for sure,
- 19:39Speaker 3: But that was always a movie to me that was
- 19:43Speaker 3: still it was just enough of the Italian touch, but
- 19:48Speaker 3: with an American sensibility, you know. I mean there's still
- 19:52Speaker 3: a ton of style in it, and the Gore. The
- 19:54Speaker 3: transformation scenes are are fantastic. My favorite part though, is
- 19:59Speaker 3: the fucking the helicopter that falls through the ceiling of
- 20:02Speaker 3: the movie theater. Like they were like, hey, we got
- 20:05Speaker 3: twenty thousand dollars laying around, can we get a helicopter.
- 20:08Speaker 5: We'll just we'll just plumbage this thing right in there, man,
- 20:11Speaker 5: no problem.
- 20:12Speaker 6: It just goes off the rails, it does. Yeah.
- 20:14Speaker 3: And then you have mikel Sawabby in it as essentially
- 20:18Speaker 3: the kickoff because he gets heart of the movie, the
- 20:20Speaker 3: ticket to the screening. There's just so much cool imagery
- 20:24Speaker 3: in it, man, And you're right. I actually think this
- 20:26Speaker 3: is a really good jumping off point for people to
- 20:29Speaker 3: kind of get into it and get a sensibility.
- 20:30Speaker 5: Of what it's like.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Because you still have the bad dubbing, you have the
- 20:36Speaker 3: hyper stylized coloring. Dude, that shot of them coming up
- 20:39Speaker 3: the stairs with the yellow eyes.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Mm hmmm, yeah that seems awesome.
- 20:43Speaker 5: Iconic, Yeah, absolutely iconic. Chuck, you were a big Demons fan.
- 20:48Speaker 10: Well, I just watched it for the first time today
- 20:50Speaker 10: and I can gladly say that I am a fan
- 20:53Speaker 10: of it now. Oh yeah, that was just like a
- 20:55Speaker 10: you know, straight up rock and roll movie from start
- 20:57Speaker 10: to end.
- 20:59Speaker 5: That's a perfect way to explain it.
- 21:01Speaker 10: It was so fun. Well, I mean even down to
- 21:02Speaker 10: the soundtrack, you know. Yeah, but uh yeah, Like I
- 21:05Speaker 10: get what you were meant Steve when you said like
- 21:08Speaker 10: kind of was reminding you of Evil Dead because at
- 21:10Speaker 10: that one part where they're on the dirt bike and
- 21:12Speaker 10: there he's just going around chopping the demons up and stuff, Like,
- 21:15Speaker 10: all I could think of that was this is like
- 21:18Speaker 10: a really cool Evil deadlike moment.
- 21:21Speaker 6: It's I like the I think the two films are
- 21:24Speaker 6: like the two film series. They share a lot of
- 21:26Speaker 6: like I feel like the over the top, gore practical
- 21:29Speaker 6: effects to like the Fullest. That's just something especially from
- 21:32Speaker 6: that time, that I really admire a lot about those films.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Well, let's not forget about Demons three the Church and
- 21:39Speaker 3: Demons four I forget the subtitle, and then Demons five,
- 21:43Speaker 3: I forget that subtitle.
- 21:44Speaker 5: There's like six of these bad boys we went.
- 21:47Speaker 6: We went down that rabbit hole of like learning about
- 21:49Speaker 6: all these unofficial sequels that they had for Demons. I
- 21:52Speaker 6: was like, maybe I learned more than I was hoping
- 21:55Speaker 6: to and he needed Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 21:59Speaker 5: Ly what about you.
- 22:00Speaker 7: Oh go ahead, Jordan, No, I was just gonna say
- 22:02Speaker 7: I agree with Jack with the music.
- 22:04Speaker 8: I thought the music and I didn't touch on that
- 22:05Speaker 8: was phenomenal.
- 22:06Speaker 7: I mean, was that Vince Neil seeing one of the.
- 22:09Speaker 5: Just as a deep cut?
- 22:10Speaker 4: It was Molly Crew deep cut?
- 22:11Speaker 8: Yeah, I heard.
- 22:12Speaker 7: I heard Vince Neils like that. Okay, so it was awesome.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Do you think that was like an Argento thing? Because
- 22:19Speaker 3: Argento in rock and roll is pretty synonymous, you think
- 22:21Speaker 3: that was his input?
- 22:24Speaker 6: I feel like it was because.
- 22:27Speaker 4: I almost feel like it was probably the studio or
- 22:29Speaker 4: whoever was putting the movie out or like, hey, we
- 22:31Speaker 4: want to get as much American viewers as possible. Yeah,
- 22:35Speaker 4: that's what it feels like to me. I don't know,
- 22:38Speaker 4: Argento doesn't come across like a Molly Crew fan. That's
- 22:42Speaker 4: just me. Nothing about Argento's screams hair metal.
- 22:50Speaker 3: That could be wrong, what do I know, But like
- 22:52Speaker 3: that's like their their American product placement.
- 22:54Speaker 4: I could see Fault Cheap being more of like a
- 22:56Speaker 4: blue oyster cult type of guy and likes, but Argento
- 23:01Speaker 4: just to me, he's very poetic. He screams like Mozart
- 23:04Speaker 4: To me, like if I was gonna listen to music,
- 23:06Speaker 4: you know. Yeah, that's just that's just you.
- 23:09Speaker 5: Know what, Christian, what's your relationship like with Demons?
- 23:13Speaker 4: Well, first, I want to give Steve credit. That is
- 23:15Speaker 4: literally the perfect number five and it is the gateway.
- 23:19Speaker 4: I tell people all the time when they ask me,
- 23:21Speaker 4: it's literally Italian light, like if they go out of
- 23:24Speaker 4: their way to make it feel so American. I love
- 23:27Speaker 4: Demons is Demons Too? Demons two is not in after this, right,
- 23:32Speaker 4: I'm assuming the Demons and Demons to, like you're kind
- 23:35Speaker 4: of counting both of these. Maybe its number five.
- 23:37Speaker 6: Oh no, I was just doing the first one, but
- 23:39Speaker 6: I just I always.
- 23:40Speaker 4: But my point is, Demons Too is not number four, three,
- 23:43Speaker 4: two or one. Oh no, No, okay, because I want
- 23:45Speaker 4: to talk about Demons two a little bit because that's
- 23:48Speaker 4: the one I love even more because it really feels
- 23:51Speaker 4: more like a Charlie band film mm hmm, because of
- 23:54Speaker 4: how was zany it gets. Now, this isn't a spoiler
- 23:58Speaker 4: because I don't know if GC has seen or anything,
- 23:59Speaker 4: or you just saw the first one. You guys, I
- 24:02Speaker 4: think you'll really love Demons two because it's just as energetic,
- 24:06Speaker 4: but it's not a one location movie and the marketing
- 24:09Speaker 4: for Demons two, guys, you would love it. Back in
- 24:11Speaker 4: the day they put out this. It was a video
- 24:14Speaker 4: store display of like this little TV that would be
- 24:17Speaker 4: on like a countertop where the little demon head is
- 24:19Speaker 4: like pushing out of the screen. And they made a
- 24:22Speaker 4: blow up version of that. You have to go google
- 24:25Speaker 4: that and look up images of it. Was so cool.
- 24:27Speaker 4: But the soundtrack on two is just as good, I
- 24:30Speaker 4: think even a little bit better because they featured songs
- 24:32Speaker 4: from one of my favorite bands, the Cult, and the
- 24:35Speaker 4: soundtrack is so kick ass on Demons two as well.
- 24:39Speaker 4: But yeah, these are great. I love Demons one and two.
- 24:43Speaker 4: And I read that Baba did not like Argento. Argento
- 24:48Speaker 4: went on a bunch of press stuff during this time,
- 24:50Speaker 4: claiming that he was more so the director of this
- 24:52Speaker 4: movie and not Baba. Boba had a problem with that,
- 24:55Speaker 4: and they didn't work, don't I don't think that Argento
- 24:59Speaker 4: was really a round that much for the church. Not
- 25:02Speaker 4: the Church, uh, whatever Baba was gonna do after this,
- 25:06Speaker 4: they were supposed to do more movies together, but they didn't.
- 25:09Speaker 4: And then I think Argento went and did stuff with
- 25:11Speaker 4: Saabi instead. But a lot of those Italian guys. They
- 25:14Speaker 4: didn't like each other back then. They fought with it.
- 25:16Speaker 4: They fought with each other a lot. They didn't like
- 25:18Speaker 4: each other.
- 25:19Speaker 5: Yeah, if you read the booklet.
- 25:20Speaker 3: I was just reading the booklet that came with The
- 25:22Speaker 3: Beyond release, and it talks about how there's like four
- 25:26Speaker 3: or five different people that come up with the main
- 25:28Speaker 3: plot outline for the for the Beyond, like every person
- 25:31Speaker 3: was at some point was like, yeah, it was my
- 25:33Speaker 3: idea to do that. And every time I read about it,
- 25:37Speaker 3: it's like six people taking credit for something. Mm hmm
- 25:39Speaker 3: every single time. It's such an un because I feel
- 25:42Speaker 3: like there was no Hollywood like organization. So it was
- 25:46Speaker 3: just like a bunch of people.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Grumpy Italians. Man. They just fought.
- 25:49Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, yeah, absolutely nobody got along.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 5: Yeah, they really are.
- 25:54Speaker 4: They really are fun. I think you can go into
- 25:56Speaker 4: the demon I think if people just picked up The
- 25:57Speaker 4: Demons films without even saying, hey, you're gonna watch the
- 26:00Speaker 4: Italian Hormone, you just say, check this movie, I think
- 26:02Speaker 4: they like it regard. They're really fun and they're so
- 26:05Speaker 4: it's junk food. It's good. There's no not a lot.
- 26:08Speaker 2: Of bs to it.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Some of these Italian. Listen, there's nothing worse than a
- 26:12Speaker 4: boring Italian horror film. Like it's different from just a
- 26:16Speaker 4: boring horror movie, a boring Italian horror movie. Good god,
- 26:20Speaker 4: you know.
- 26:21Speaker 6: So, do you have any that come to mind when
- 26:23Speaker 6: you talk about like those type of movies?
- 26:26Speaker 4: Oh? Sure, Cato nine Tales. I'd rather lick a toilet
- 26:29Speaker 4: seat than sit down and watch it again, Like I'm serious.
- 26:32Speaker 4: I love Argento. But yeah, sure, there's movies where if
- 26:36Speaker 4: you don't connect with them and you just gotta sit
- 26:37Speaker 4: there and let them play out. Good God, it's excruciating.
- 26:41Speaker 3: It's excruciating, and they're long, like some of those shallow
- 26:44Speaker 3: movies are one hundred and fifteen plus minutes. Yeah, Jesus Christ,
- 26:48Speaker 3: we're just going on and on and on.
- 26:50Speaker 4: The marketing for the Demons films is amazing. I always
- 26:53Speaker 4: love it. If I look at it. Whenever I do
- 26:55Speaker 4: videos with people, I look in their backgrounds. If I
- 26:57Speaker 4: see somebody like a Demon's poster, I'm like, God, that
- 27:00Speaker 4: looks so good. I have one in here. I don't
- 27:02Speaker 4: have it hung up right now. But the artwork for
- 27:04Speaker 4: those everything about those movies is so good, the posters,
- 27:07Speaker 4: the music, the effects stuff. But I think a lot
- 27:10Speaker 4: of you guys would like two a lot, especially if
- 27:12Speaker 4: you're like, man, you love those Empire full Moon kind
- 27:14Speaker 4: of Charlie band films because they get second when he
- 27:16Speaker 4: gets real Zany, I love it.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a real like in a back to back watch.
- 27:21Speaker 3: It's it's kind of a little jarring, how different the
- 27:23Speaker 3: second one feels like when you go because I want
- 27:26Speaker 3: the first time I ever saw them, I watched them back
- 27:27Speaker 3: to back and Demons too. I wasn't as hot on
- 27:29Speaker 3: when I watched it back to back, and then I
- 27:31Speaker 3: think years later I put it on its own and
- 27:34Speaker 3: I really found the love for it at that time.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Such cool effects, man, like the TV effects. I fucking
- 27:41Speaker 3: love the fight scene in the in the parking garage. Yeah,
- 27:44Speaker 3: that big war like fight scene down there. Yeah, those
- 27:48Speaker 3: are great picks.
- 27:49Speaker 4: Man.
- 27:50Speaker 3: Now, okay, we got a perfect number five, number four.
- 27:55Speaker 6: Let's see, so I don't I don't have the VHS,
- 27:59Speaker 6: but I was gonna roll with Cannibal Holocaust for number four.
- 28:04Speaker 6: I feel like that that is for most people getting
- 28:08Speaker 6: into the subgenre is a little bit. It's not for everybody, right,
- 28:14Speaker 6: but I have such fond memories of discovering this movie
- 28:17Speaker 6: way back when in high school, and I just remember
- 28:20Speaker 6: seeing it at the video store and I remember seeing
- 28:24Speaker 6: on like the cover, like you know, band in x
- 28:26Speaker 6: x amount of countries. I just like I had to
- 28:29Speaker 6: know more about it. I remember renting it. It brought
- 28:32Speaker 6: over to a friend's place and we're watching it, and
- 28:35Speaker 6: I just that was very early on when I was
- 28:38Speaker 6: getting into horror. But Jesus christ Man like that that
- 28:42Speaker 6: was like a ride, and you're just wondering, like how
- 28:45Speaker 6: much of it is like real, or like what exactly
- 28:48Speaker 6: is going on, or like what the direction of this
- 28:50Speaker 6: film looked like. It's not an easy watch, but I
- 28:54Speaker 6: feel like that it's essential when it comes to viewing
- 28:58Speaker 6: Italian horror. At some point point during.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Your journey, I think, now you're talking about one of
- 29:04Speaker 3: my favorite movies of all time here, a movie that
- 29:06Speaker 3: I've grown to like, really love. Hold On.
- 29:11Speaker 2: He backed away from his screen.
- 29:14Speaker 5: Hold On. Let me explain something here.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Let me justify when I was a kid, mind you,
- 29:21Speaker 3: when I watched this movie. Now, I only watched the
- 29:22Speaker 3: Peda cut, Thank you Grindhouse releasing for that. When I
- 29:26Speaker 3: was a kid, I had already seen Faces of Death
- 29:29Speaker 3: when I found kind of a Holocaust. I had heard
- 29:32Speaker 3: nothing but the craziest things about this movie, and I pirated.
- 29:35Speaker 5: It and I watched it.
- 29:38Speaker 3: And you know, when you're a kid, obviously you're not
- 29:40Speaker 3: looking at the bigger picture. You're just looking at what's
- 29:43Speaker 3: happening on screen, right, So you have the footage found
- 29:47Speaker 3: and you have the scene where they get mutilated, and
- 29:49Speaker 3: it's crazy.
- 29:49Speaker 5: You're like, oh my god.
- 29:51Speaker 3: When I grew up, or when I got older, and
- 29:53Speaker 3: I kept watching that movie and watching it and watching it.
- 29:56Speaker 5: It became.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Less of of a horror movie in the traditional sense
- 30:02Speaker 3: and more of like a That movie, to me is
- 30:07Speaker 3: as scary as like when I put on the news.
- 30:10Speaker 3: It's a different kind of horror to me because it
- 30:13Speaker 3: feels so real. And the fact that that Rigaro Dio
- 30:17Speaker 3: Dado directed that movie in response to what he was
- 30:19Speaker 3: seeing on television as a kid, and the interpretations between
- 30:25Speaker 3: the final presentation you were being given and the miss
- 30:30Speaker 3: the what's the word I'm looking for? The uh, like
- 30:34Speaker 3: the journalists going in and kind of like slightly changing
- 30:36Speaker 3: things or like giving their perspective in order to push
- 30:39Speaker 3: whatever they want to push. And I'm not a, Yeah,
- 30:41Speaker 3: I'm not a political guy. But as I got older
- 30:45Speaker 3: and my view on politics began to change, I started
- 30:49Speaker 3: understanding exactly what this movie was. And then that was
- 30:53Speaker 3: the first time, I would say about twelve years ago
- 30:58Speaker 3: when I realized, like, oh the truth the bad guys
- 31:00Speaker 3: in here are are not what I've heard for years,
- 31:03Speaker 3: or they're not the cannibals, they're the journalists, and that
- 31:08Speaker 3: completely like sat with me, and then Verguara Diodato went
- 31:13Speaker 3: on to be like a director I've been fascinated with
- 31:16Speaker 3: ever since, but I think the market, not the marketing,
- 31:20Speaker 3: this stunts behind this movie, or even more fascinating, the
- 31:22Speaker 3: fact that.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Your Diodata was like, hey, I'll pay you.
- 31:25Speaker 3: Guys to go into hiding and we'll convince everyone that
- 31:29Speaker 3: you're actually dead, and then.
- 31:31Speaker 5: The court forcing him to bring them back out.
- 31:34Speaker 3: That way, he wasn't prosecuted and sent to prison for
- 31:37Speaker 3: murder because at that time, seeing that footage of people
- 31:41Speaker 3: being slaughtered, it must have been so realistic, you know what,
- 31:43Speaker 3: I mean, to sit in a movie theater.
- 31:44Speaker 5: And see that.
- 31:46Speaker 3: So that's just my thing and it's not my favorite,
- 31:49Speaker 3: like if you say, like favorite movies of all times,
- 31:52Speaker 3: it's the movie I'm most fascinated.
- 31:55Speaker 6: Well, the amount of controversy behind it when it was released.
- 31:58Speaker 6: I mean, I think that that's kind of in the
- 32:00Speaker 6: marketing rollout for something like that at the time. I mean,
- 32:04Speaker 6: you know, I think we take for granted that years
- 32:07Speaker 6: later after we've had movies like that and the Blair
- 32:09Speaker 6: Witch Project with how inventive it was of the time.
- 32:14Speaker 6: But yeah, I mean, I think that it's a like
- 32:18Speaker 6: a cultural milestone when it comes to horror in its
- 32:21Speaker 6: own way.
- 32:23Speaker 3: It is, and it it to me. It it definitely
- 32:27Speaker 3: has its flaws. I hate the animal stuff. I'm an
- 32:30Speaker 3: animal that is, like, you know, That's why I don't
- 32:33Speaker 3: like Cannibal Pharaoh or Faroxocks. Yeah, because Cannibal Fairox feels
- 32:39Speaker 3: much more like distasteful in the animal scenes at a
- 32:44Speaker 3: point where like the animals are tied up, you know
- 32:46Speaker 3: what I mean, it feels like, I don't know, at
- 32:49Speaker 3: least in cannibal holocausts, they were genuinely out in the
- 32:51Speaker 3: forest and they just filmed them killing and eating these animals.
- 32:56Speaker 3: But to me, the most terrifying part is them grouping
- 32:59Speaker 3: all those village into that hut and then burning down
- 33:03Speaker 3: the hut right to turn around and go, oh, look
- 33:06Speaker 3: what these people are doing, like look, look, look what's
- 33:08Speaker 3: happening here. These are they're doing this to their people.
- 33:11Speaker 3: And it's like, no fucker, that was you. And then
- 33:13Speaker 3: to make matters worse, to make matters worse you and
- 33:16Speaker 3: what's your name had sex on the the platform where
- 33:20Speaker 3: that just like, you know what I mean, it's.
- 33:21Speaker 6: So sadistic, dude, it's unhinged towards the end of a.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Dude, it's so distasteful, like the fucking abortion scene, like
- 33:29Speaker 3: it's it's insane.
- 33:31Speaker 5: Man. That movie is just on a whole another And
- 33:33Speaker 5: I don't care what you like.
- 33:35Speaker 3: I I love Eli Roth, but it blows my mind
- 33:40Speaker 3: when he says that Green Inferno was like his cannibal Holocaust,
- 33:45Speaker 3: because it's almost like Green Inferno didn't understand cannibal holocausts
- 33:50Speaker 3: at all, and it just turned into a bunch of
- 33:51Speaker 3: fart jokes and the kid from Spy Kids getting killed,
- 33:55Speaker 3: you know what I mean?
- 33:57Speaker 5: That's just me though, I mean, no.
- 33:59Speaker 4: You actually have really ab dissessment of that. I agree
- 34:02Speaker 4: too with what you said.
- 34:04Speaker 5: I don't. I don't.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Every single time I listen to him talk about Green Inferno.
- 34:08Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't know, it feels like you kind
- 34:09Speaker 3: of missed it. Man, Like in some weird way.
- 34:11Speaker 5: I don't.
- 34:12Speaker 6: Green Inferno didn't really connect for me, and that was
- 34:14Speaker 6: like I can sit through most stuff and not really
- 34:18Speaker 6: be two faced by it, but there's like parts of
- 34:20Speaker 6: that movie where I'm just like, I just don't. It
- 34:23Speaker 6: was a good one time watch. Like I don't really
- 34:25Speaker 6: feel they need to revisit this again, just with how
- 34:28Speaker 6: Graphica was, and I think that Eli Roth has done
- 34:32Speaker 6: better films outside of that, to be honest.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well the found footage. I mean, if you
- 34:39Speaker 3: look at Cannibal Holocaust, I think one of the scariest
- 34:41Speaker 3: moments is the ending of the film when the new
- 34:45Speaker 3: studio tells them, tells them, Hey, we're gonna air this.
- 34:49Speaker 3: That's terrifying, dude, like that to think. And I'm not
- 34:54Speaker 3: saying that's real and I'm not saying that happens. But
- 34:56Speaker 3: at the same time, I also don't. I'd also don't
- 35:00Speaker 3: immediately you know, like, uh, take that away from being
- 35:04Speaker 3: something real, that would that would happen for sake of
- 35:06Speaker 3: getting views.
- 35:08Speaker 6: Yeah, it's it feels very exploitative.
- 35:11Speaker 9: I mean, yeah, it kind of is real man in
- 35:13Speaker 9: a sense, because if we didn't have certain regulations that
- 35:17Speaker 9: we do now, I mean absolutely people would because we're
- 35:21Speaker 9: so desensitizing this day and age man that it's I mean,
- 35:24Speaker 9: I saw that movie twenty to twenty three years ago.
- 35:27Speaker 9: I was about fifteen sixteen years old, and man, like
- 35:30Speaker 9: I remember seeing that movie for the first time and
- 35:32Speaker 9: I was just sitting there and my brain was just
- 35:36Speaker 9: exploded all over the room. Like I'm like watching this movie,
- 35:39Speaker 9: thinking to myself, is this I've never seen anything like it.
- 35:42Speaker 9: I mean, I grew up a nightmare on Elm Street. Yeah, yeah,
- 35:45Speaker 9: Freddy like Jason and like that type of horror. So
- 35:49Speaker 9: then I start seeing you know, hell Raiser, and then
- 35:51Speaker 9: out of all of a sudden cannibal Holocaust. I'm like,
- 35:54Speaker 9: this is a whole different type of horror. And it's true.
- 35:57Speaker 9: It's like you said, they the the you know, the
- 36:02Speaker 9: Cannibal's cannibals, what they were doing, It's I mean, they
- 36:06Speaker 9: were just you know, surviving in their own environment. You know,
- 36:09Speaker 9: they were doing what they were always doing, Like they
- 36:11Speaker 9: didn't really know that, Like it didn't seem at least
- 36:15Speaker 9: from what I remember seeing it once, Like it didn't
- 36:17Speaker 9: seem like they they were purposely like, Oh, I'm just
- 36:20Speaker 9: gonna go ahead and do this, just how to compare
- 36:22Speaker 9: to our civilization, Like we have certain different rules and
- 36:26Speaker 9: stuff like that. For them, it's just you know, typical Monday.
- 36:29Speaker 9: And then you have like these people coming in and
- 36:32Speaker 9: trying to exploit them and all that stuff.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Well, I don't I don't even think they understood it
- 36:36Speaker 3: to that level, you know what I mean. I think
- 36:39Speaker 3: they're just they're they just they don't understand what the
- 36:43Speaker 3: hell's going on. They don't know who these people are,
- 36:45Speaker 3: what they're there, what they're there to do, and then
- 36:48Speaker 3: they're interfering. And I mean imagine like you're doing your
- 36:51Speaker 3: thing and all of a sudden, these people show up
- 36:52Speaker 3: and murder women and children. You don't know what's going on.
- 36:57Speaker 3: You just know like, oh, fuck, well, these people deserve
- 36:59Speaker 3: to die. And that's that's what you see. Because the
- 37:01Speaker 3: main journalists that we follow in the found footage, obviously
- 37:04Speaker 3: we see their fate.
- 37:05Speaker 5: They get eaten.
- 37:06Speaker 3: So then when and I'm blanking on his name right now,
- 37:09Speaker 3: when he goes back to retrieve the footage, he shows
- 37:12Speaker 3: no hostile threat. He shows initiatives to work with them,
- 37:16Speaker 3: and they embrace him, and yes, he does end up,
- 37:19Speaker 3: you know, eating some human meat because he's given it
- 37:21Speaker 3: and he knows like it's a it's you know, disrespectful
- 37:24Speaker 3: to turn that down, to turn down an offer like that,
- 37:26Speaker 3: and they treated him great. There's the contrast right there,
- 37:31Speaker 3: you know. So to me, I feel like this movie
- 37:35Speaker 3: gets pawned off a lot. People are like, oh, that's
- 37:37Speaker 3: that disgusting movie. I'm never gonna watch that, And I
- 37:40Speaker 3: think it has a lot more to say than people
- 37:42Speaker 3: give it credit for.
- 37:44Speaker 6: What about the rest of you, guys, Was that a
- 37:47Speaker 6: movie that you got into, like early on getting into
- 37:50Speaker 6: horror or kind of what was your guys' thoughts on it.
- 37:56Speaker 5: I'll be really quick.
- 37:57Speaker 4: I remember like maybe fifteen years ago. I cannot remember
- 38:00Speaker 4: where I was, but I saw a poster of it
- 38:02Speaker 4: in like a tattoo shop or something. Stop me dead
- 38:05Speaker 4: in my tracks, and it was the woman you know
- 38:08Speaker 4: at the pole, going oh God, that's that's yeah, that's
- 38:13Speaker 4: the one for me. That's the thing that always sticks
- 38:15Speaker 4: with me. I loved it. I get the animal stuff.
- 38:24Speaker 4: I remember when Joe Bob was gonna play it, there
- 38:26Speaker 4: was a huge uproar about like they were gonna show
- 38:29Speaker 4: it with that scene, and my thing was like, look,
- 38:32Speaker 4: I get it. If somebody touches one of my dogs,
- 38:35Speaker 4: they'll be hell to pay you. But I mean, this
- 38:36Speaker 4: was like forty years ago, and they ate the damn thing, like,
- 38:40Speaker 4: can you please worry about something more important than life?
- 38:42Speaker 6: People like?
- 38:43Speaker 4: But I love Cannibal Holocaust, and I agree so much
- 38:47Speaker 4: with Chris about what he said because I went on
- 38:50Speaker 4: a deep dive and was studying this movie because I
- 38:52Speaker 4: was so fat I'd never seen anything like it. Still
- 38:55Speaker 4: don't think there really is anything like it. But I
- 38:58Speaker 4: went on a deep dive to study this movie and
- 39:00Speaker 4: learn about it. And when you first watch it, it's
- 39:03Speaker 4: almost got the Texas shadees on Mascar effect where you
- 39:06Speaker 4: feel like you're just like you're seeing this movie that's
- 39:09Speaker 4: just this insane horror, smut death movie. But there is
- 39:14Speaker 4: something that I'm saying, like what text change? Everybody thinks
- 39:16Speaker 4: to see a blood bath? No, no, you didn't, So
- 39:19Speaker 4: there is a lot more. And I still think that
- 39:22Speaker 4: this movie has not been looked at in that way yet,
- 39:26Speaker 4: and I still I don't. I do still don't think
- 39:27Speaker 4: people are ready to talk about it, because they just
- 39:30Speaker 4: as soon as you bring it up, there's just like, oh,
- 39:32Speaker 4: I'm never watching that. Oh I'm not like you're gonna
- 39:36Speaker 4: see a lot worse stuff in real life. This is
- 39:38Speaker 4: a movie, you know. Yeah, So I totally agree with
- 39:42Speaker 4: him on that big time. I want to watch it now,
- 39:48Speaker 4: to watch it because it's a dude, it's an important
- 39:51Speaker 4: movie to me. It really is. Not many posters stop
- 39:54Speaker 4: me dead in my tracks, you know. And I remember
- 39:57Speaker 4: seeing it. I was mesmerized by it.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Even the poster, just with the cannibal halic, that font,
- 40:03Speaker 3: even that alone with like the band or the I
- 40:07Speaker 3: remember the the big like no one under eighteen to
- 40:10Speaker 3: see this movie at the bottom, Like I remember that.
- 40:14Speaker 3: And I even remember people like reading about people throwing
- 40:18Speaker 3: up and like being sick. Yeah, you're right, there really
- 40:22Speaker 3: isn't much. You have that one scene, you know, well,
- 40:27Speaker 3: I guess you know. You have the discovery of the
- 40:30Speaker 3: body on the pole. You have the aboord, so it's
- 40:33Speaker 3: it's it's graphic, but it's not a gory.
- 40:36Speaker 4: Well, my whole thing was what I was getting at
- 40:39Speaker 4: is the way people look at Texas Shanzel masker and
- 40:41Speaker 4: they say, oh, my god, that was a Bloodbeth. No, no, no,
- 40:44Speaker 4: you have to watch it again and realize not. What
- 40:46Speaker 4: I was trying to get at was people look at
- 40:48Speaker 4: Cannibal Holocaust and they think it's a movie that's just
- 40:51Speaker 4: trying to gross you out and it's that simple, when
- 40:54Speaker 4: in reality it's not. I agree with what you were
- 40:56Speaker 4: saying about the societal things about it and the way
- 41:00Speaker 4: you're looking at it politically, like the whole scope of
- 41:03Speaker 4: what you were talking about with how you see the movie,
- 41:05Speaker 4: and it did have something. That's what I was getting
- 41:07Speaker 4: at is people they have to sit there and they
- 41:09Speaker 4: really have to soak it in and listen to everything
- 41:11Speaker 4: that's being said and understand what the reporters doing. That's
- 41:14Speaker 4: what I was getting at is I still don't think
- 41:16Speaker 4: people realize that that much. Yet You're the only person
- 41:20Speaker 4: I've ever heard actually talk about it in that sense before.
- 41:23Speaker 3: Well, I actually think because Cannibal Holocaust sparked off a
- 41:27Speaker 3: whole subgenre of cannibal Italian horror, and everybody was ripping
- 41:31Speaker 3: it off, and everybody who was ripping it off was
- 41:37Speaker 3: doing it out of an exploitation need, and that's not
- 41:39Speaker 3: what this movie. It's kind of like when Eli Roth
- 41:41Speaker 3: does the Green Inferno, it's like it.
- 41:44Speaker 5: They're like, oh, I get oh this is cool, this
- 41:46Speaker 5: is popular.
- 41:46Speaker 3: But like you watch what Baba was doing and or
- 41:49Speaker 3: I'm sorry, not Boba Bumberto Lenzi and like these guys
- 41:52Speaker 3: who were doing these cannibal movies, they were doing it
- 41:55Speaker 3: for exploitation. They were like, how gross can we go
- 41:58Speaker 3: with humans eating other humans?
- 42:00Speaker 6: They're like missing the message.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Yeah, they had no message, dude, Like you cannot watch
- 42:05Speaker 3: Cannibal Fox and make any message out of it. Besides,
- 42:08Speaker 3: why would you try to drive through that puddle.
- 42:10Speaker 4: It's just I was that I was at uh it's
- 42:12Speaker 4: so funny because I agree with Faraox it's cruel. I
- 42:15Speaker 4: remember that I was at a convention in Tennessee the
- 42:18Speaker 4: other week, and it was a table where these guys
- 42:20Speaker 4: were selling shirts and stuff and hats and shorts and
- 42:23Speaker 4: they have all these like it's all they it's all
- 42:25Speaker 4: deep cut Italian horror stuff. Their shirts for Black Black
- 42:30Speaker 4: Sabbath and well that's not really deep cut. But like
- 42:32Speaker 4: you know, there's there's Mario Baba movie shirts, and then
- 42:35Speaker 4: there's this, and there's that. This guy walks up to
- 42:37Speaker 4: the table it's just so funny. He goes, yeah, let
- 42:39Speaker 4: me get that Cannibal Ferox hat, right, just like, god
- 42:43Speaker 4: damn man, where are you gonna wear that? At Ball
- 42:49Speaker 4: Bear Press?
- 42:50Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 42:50Speaker 3: Yeah, they're like dude, I I always want so much
- 42:53Speaker 3: stuff from them, But I'm like, where in reality am
- 42:55Speaker 3: I just gonna throw Like I had, I.
- 42:57Speaker 4: Wore face I got Faces of Depth shorts from.
- 43:01Speaker 5: I saw you wearing. Did you buy their New York
- 43:03Speaker 5: Ripper hat?
- 43:04Speaker 4: I did buy the New York So I guess I'm
- 43:06Speaker 4: just as weird.
- 43:07Speaker 5: I have that hat.
- 43:09Speaker 3: And one time, ever was I we went to a
- 43:12Speaker 3: in my town. We went to a book like fair
- 43:14Speaker 3: and an author was like I walked by the table
- 43:17Speaker 3: and the guy was like, is that a fucking New
- 43:18Speaker 3: York Ripper hat? And I turned around and bought his book.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Like I was like, oh yeah, okay, yep, you deserve
- 43:23Speaker 3: my money right now. Somebody, some of these shirts that
- 43:27Speaker 3: come out, I'm like, I don't know where I would
- 43:28Speaker 3: ever put this on and like go just you know,
- 43:31Speaker 3: like to a public place.
- 43:33Speaker 4: But I guess you just don't realize that there's a
- 43:34Speaker 4: lot of people that are just as weird as you.
- 43:36Speaker 4: I mean, you as me, it's like really like me.
- 43:38Speaker 4: So when a guy walks up, he's like, I'll take
- 43:40Speaker 4: the cannibal Ferrox. It's just it took me back. I
- 43:43Speaker 4: was like, God damn. He's like, you get the Dawn
- 43:46Speaker 4: of the Dead hat, but you can get.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Back in the day Romberto lends me was like, I
- 43:51Speaker 3: can't wait to see this on a pair of gym short.
- 43:55Speaker 3: You know what, dude, like, one day you watch this
- 43:59Speaker 3: is gonna be a pair of mesh shorts.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Now I'm gonna I might end up breaking down againting
- 44:03Speaker 4: the cannibal pharaohxcept.
- 44:09Speaker 3: No, yeah, Cannibal Hall. I mean, Jordan, I don't know
- 44:11Speaker 3: if you've seen Cannibal Holocaust.
- 44:12Speaker 7: I haven't seen the movie, and I've seen scenes and clips,
- 44:15Speaker 7: but I've never actually sat down and.
- 44:19Speaker 8: And watch the movie.
- 44:20Speaker 7: But you you definitely have a peaked my interest in
- 44:23Speaker 7: wanted to go watch it for sure.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and I mean seriously, shout out to the Grindhouse
- 44:27Speaker 3: team for when they put that out doing the peda cut,
- 44:29Speaker 3: because the animal stuff that's in it is so for
- 44:33Speaker 3: people who don't know they actually shot this movie in
- 44:36Speaker 3: a forest, Like these people were out in the forest.
- 44:38Speaker 3: So when they're eating because I think they eat a tortoise.
- 44:41Speaker 3: There's one other scene too, and they they filmed it
- 44:44Speaker 3: and put it in the movie, so they are eating
- 44:45Speaker 3: it like for food. You know, it's like watching a
- 44:47Speaker 3: hunting video almost, But it does not add anything to
- 44:52Speaker 3: the movie outside of just that, like it's not a
- 44:55Speaker 3: major plot point, doesn't change the experience for you. So
- 44:59Speaker 3: they put the Peda cut on their Blu Ray. I
- 45:01Speaker 3: don't know if eighty eight Films put it on their
- 45:03Speaker 3: their four K or not.
- 45:05Speaker 4: The Grindhouse releases A Way to Go though, in my opinion, oh.
- 45:08Speaker 5: Yeah with that soundtrack.
- 45:10Speaker 4: But Jordan, I'll say this, if you get that Grindhouse release,
- 45:15Speaker 4: just just just get it out the way. Get watch
- 45:18Speaker 4: the full thing. Oh, just get it out the way,
- 45:22Speaker 4: you know.
- 45:24Speaker 3: I think, Jordan, you're gonna come out of it much
- 45:26Speaker 3: if you spent a long time hearing about the movie,
- 45:29Speaker 3: you're gonna come out of it like with a pretty
- 45:32Speaker 3: like I think you're gonna be I think some people
- 45:34Speaker 3: come out a little bit. I don't know what the
- 45:37Speaker 3: word I'm looking for. It is like it's kind of
- 45:39Speaker 3: an unexpected experience because it's not as harsh as you
- 45:44Speaker 3: would think. You know, because a lot of the band
- 45:46Speaker 3: stuff was mostly because of the animal cruelty. For the
- 45:48Speaker 3: most part, that's kind of the big thing of it.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Outside of that, you know, the other like if you
- 45:55Speaker 3: watch Eating a Live or I don't know, some of
- 45:58Speaker 3: those other cannibal movies, they're a lot more gross out
- 46:01Speaker 3: violent than that is.
- 46:03Speaker 7: Well that and two, now, you know, hearing you know
- 46:07Speaker 7: you and Christian kind of going really what the film's
- 46:11Speaker 7: about and the effects it had.
- 46:12Speaker 8: You know, going in it knowing.
- 46:16Speaker 7: That and especially my first time, I think I'm gonna
- 46:17Speaker 7: appreciate it a little more than say, Hey, what's this.
- 46:20Speaker 8: I'm gonna go check this.
- 46:21Speaker 7: Out, man, you know, yeah, get knocked out by what
- 46:24Speaker 7: I'm seeing.
- 46:26Speaker 6: Well, I will say, oh sorry, but I will say,
- 46:29Speaker 6: like after watching I know you guys were talking about
- 46:31Speaker 6: Texas Chainsaw initially, and then with this film, I will
- 46:35Speaker 6: say after watching it, I remember, at least with the
- 46:37Speaker 6: first time watching it, the first go round, I just
- 46:40Speaker 6: felt so grimy after watching it, like you basically just
- 46:43Speaker 6: kind of want it, like you kind of like are
- 46:45Speaker 6: besides yourself, Like I almost want to go take a shower,
- 46:47Speaker 6: and then just kind of like kind of have like
- 46:49Speaker 6: a Palate cleanser with another movie.
- 46:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 46:52Speaker 3: When I talk to people and people are like and
- 46:54Speaker 3: I tell people like, I'm not political, I don't watch
- 46:56Speaker 3: the news. I always have to resist being like, well,
- 46:59Speaker 3: when I was a kid, I want Cannibal Holocaust, and
- 47:03Speaker 3: now as an.
- 47:03Speaker 4: Adult, I'll watch Cannible.
- 47:07Speaker 5: I want to see my hat. Check out my shorts.
- 47:11Speaker 4: Dude, I was so grimy, I had to go take
- 47:12Speaker 4: a shower, so I get my Farrox pajamas.
- 47:17Speaker 3: Watching Cannibal Holocaust, getting a shower and then putting on
- 47:20Speaker 3: your Cannibal Pharaoh shorts. That's like a that's like, that's
- 47:25Speaker 3: like shipping, not wiping and getting in the shower, you
- 47:27Speaker 3: know what I mean.
- 47:28Speaker 5: That's just like this topic.
- 47:34Speaker 3: But I was I was listening to a podcast earlier
- 47:36Speaker 3: and they asked the question, if you ship and then
- 47:39Speaker 3: you get up and when you're getting into the shower
- 47:42Speaker 3: you fart or no, wait what something?
- 47:44Speaker 4: If you finish?
- 47:48Speaker 5: Hold on? They said? What did they say?
- 47:51Speaker 3: They said, if you oh, no, if you shower and
- 47:55Speaker 3: then you have to take a ship, do you shower again? Like,
- 47:58Speaker 3: if you take a shower, get out and then you
- 48:00Speaker 3: have to ship, do you just get back in the shower.
- 48:02Speaker 6: Unless you have a day.
- 48:03Speaker 8: Man, are you asking him for what we would do?
- 48:05Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 48:05Speaker 4: I heard that earlier, But I mean, I got my
- 48:10Speaker 4: body trained. Dude, that ship before I get right before
- 48:13Speaker 4: I get in the shower.
- 48:14Speaker 6: I feel like I.
- 48:14Speaker 5: Can't shower without, you know.
- 48:16Speaker 7: But sometimes you know what if you get in the
- 48:18Speaker 7: shower and you're like, oh, man, hold on one second,
- 48:20Speaker 7: got to get out of the shower.
- 48:22Speaker 4: Yeah you get out, and yeah you get out.
- 48:23Speaker 5: Yeah, Oh that's a wild one. All right, let's move
- 48:26Speaker 5: on that. All right, let's go.
- 48:28Speaker 6: D you just have to get a bid day man.
- 48:31Speaker 4: Somebody out there listening to this though. Soon as you
- 48:33Speaker 4: brought that up, they're like, oh, here we go.
- 48:37Speaker 6: I see the day.
- 48:38Speaker 3: The day is interesting to me because it's like I
- 48:40Speaker 3: ship and then I take a butt whole shower, and
- 48:42Speaker 3: then I take a whole.
- 48:43Speaker 5: Body shower, you know what I mean?
- 48:47Speaker 4: One of those dude's so bad.
- 48:51Speaker 3: So when I met and when I met my wife
- 48:53Speaker 3: back when we first they had a bidet in their
- 48:55Speaker 3: upstairs toilet and I didn't.
- 48:57Speaker 5: I had never I'd never seen one before. I'm like,
- 49:00Speaker 5: how did this? I'm like wondering.
- 49:03Speaker 4: I just think it's so funny how the day gets
- 49:06Speaker 4: brought up and then immediately aired. You know, when I
- 49:08Speaker 4: met my wife.
- 49:12Speaker 5: Anywhere else where there was a good day.
- 49:15Speaker 3: But I tell you what, man, I hit the switch
- 49:17Speaker 3: and that water shot out so fast, and I got
- 49:20Speaker 3: wet and the wall got wet, and I just was
- 49:21Speaker 3: like that books dangerous.
- 49:25Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 49:26Speaker 9: You never turn it all the way like like all
- 49:29Speaker 9: at once.
- 49:29Speaker 4: You had to crack the lever.
- 49:33Speaker 5: Adjustments. Bro.
- 49:34Speaker 3: Who Who's like you turn a light and you're like,
- 49:36Speaker 3: that's not enough, and then you turn it up.
- 49:42Speaker 8: Bought my house.
- 49:44Speaker 7: I we it came with one and so no one,
- 49:46Speaker 7: no one in my house would try it, So I'll
- 49:48Speaker 7: do it. So it went and on similar situation to Chris,
- 49:51Speaker 7: and I didn't say a word. I got up, walked outside,
- 49:55Speaker 7: grabbed my drill, grabbed a couple of tools, went back in,
- 49:58Speaker 7: came out, and I took that thing off, said this
- 50:00Speaker 7: is getting out of here.
- 50:01Speaker 5: I can't my house. It's like a weapon.
- 50:05Speaker 6: Bro.
- 50:05Speaker 3: Look, I'm telling you right now, there's no other podcast
- 50:08Speaker 3: in the world that's gonna go from cannibal holocaust to
- 50:11Speaker 3: shitting in less than three minutes.
- 50:14Speaker 5: It felt natural, Honestly, Yeah, I.
- 50:19Speaker 9: Got something to add as far as for like the
- 50:21Speaker 9: merch thing, because you know, I found it very interesting
- 50:24Speaker 9: that if I was like gonna say, like in Miami,
- 50:27Speaker 9: like a big city, I could wear that cool like
- 50:31Speaker 9: cannibal Holocaust like merch and it'd be fine, Like everybody
- 50:34Speaker 9: would look, nobody would care. But then you go to
- 50:36Speaker 9: like a mall in South Carolina and people would just
- 50:41Speaker 9: stare at you like you're like an alien for ma
- 50:44Speaker 9: otter space. And I remember about a week ago, I
- 50:47Speaker 9: went to Spencer's and I was like, oh cool, they
- 50:49Speaker 9: have terrified like hoodies and like they have a bunch
- 50:51Speaker 9: of cool stuff.
- 50:52Speaker 8: You know.
- 50:52Speaker 9: And I see this hat that made me laugh. And
- 50:54Speaker 9: the reason I bought this hat it's because I put
- 50:57Speaker 9: I try it on. I turn around and some dude
- 50:59Speaker 9: looks at me. He goes nice, some random stranger and
- 51:03Speaker 9: the hat said porn director on it, and I thought
- 51:07Speaker 9: it was the funniest thing. So I bought it and
- 51:10Speaker 9: I was like, you know what, that's hilarious, man, It's
- 51:11Speaker 9: so simple. It's just little white words porn director and dude.
- 51:15Speaker 9: I get home and put it on. I'm like, realistically,
- 51:18Speaker 9: where the hell am I going to wear this around?
- 51:19Speaker 6: Here.
- 51:20Speaker 9: People are just here with livestock and they're gonna look
- 51:23Speaker 9: at me in my hat and be like, what the
- 51:24Speaker 9: hell is this guy doing? So I had to go
- 51:26Speaker 9: back and return it in shame.
- 51:27Speaker 3: Oh dude, I don't think you can return that. I
- 51:29Speaker 3: think that's a non returnable item.
- 51:31Speaker 5: Honestly, I will give you. I will pay for shipping
- 51:34Speaker 5: if you want to send that my way, I will.
- 51:36Speaker 8: Gladly wear no.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Similar story with a hat. We went to this like
- 51:41Speaker 3: instore thrift market thing and I'm walking around and I
- 51:45Speaker 3: find this hat that looks vintage it's not. And it
- 51:48Speaker 3: said it had Bigfoot on it and it said Bigfoot
- 51:51Speaker 3: is real. He tried to eat my ass, and.
- 51:54Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah it was.
- 51:56Speaker 3: It was like twelve dollars. And I walked around with
- 51:59Speaker 3: it the whole time, and then I was like, where
- 52:00Speaker 3: the funk am I gonna wear this on YouTube?
- 52:03Speaker 4: Dude? I don't wait to watch that. But the thing is,
- 52:08Speaker 4: if you wear a hat like that, you can't like
- 52:11Speaker 4: say hey, check out my hat. You just gotta start
- 52:13Speaker 4: the video like nothing's wrong. Did you give me too
- 52:18Speaker 4: many ideas?
- 52:20Speaker 5: My God, just stare into.
- 52:21Speaker 9: The lens just intensely.
- 52:23Speaker 4: That is so.
- 52:27Speaker 3: I think the best would be if the hat's backwards
- 52:29Speaker 3: and then at some point you flip it around and then.
- 52:33Speaker 6: That's an immediate subscribe for me.
- 52:36Speaker 5: Yeah, oh my god. Uh so let's say.
- 52:46Speaker 3: Off the rails, bro off the I don't remember what
- 52:50Speaker 3: we were talking about before.
- 52:53Speaker 5: Yah, all right, so let's go on to uh, what
- 52:57Speaker 5: are we on number three?
- 52:59Speaker 6: Yep?
- 53:00Speaker 3: Okay, all right, so we got demons, we have accounibal Holocaust,
- 53:05Speaker 3: and then we have.
- 53:06Speaker 6: Before I move on to the third one. So you
- 53:10Speaker 6: guys were talking about Faces of Death. I know this
- 53:12Speaker 6: is an Italian horror, but I swear I remember watching that,
- 53:17Speaker 6: like those films like a while but like a long
- 53:20Speaker 6: time ago, and they are definitely not as good as
- 53:23Speaker 6: I remember them being whatsoever. Like did any of you
- 53:25Speaker 6: guys pick up the Face of Death collection?
- 53:29Speaker 5: I did not. I couldn't find it.
- 53:32Speaker 8: Yeah, same, it was never emm a Walmart.
- 53:35Speaker 6: It's like one of those things where I feel like
- 53:37Speaker 6: it was. It was worse the way that I had
- 53:41Speaker 6: built it up, like all these all these from like
- 53:44Speaker 6: whenever I initially saw it up until now. Uh, it's
- 53:47Speaker 6: it's I don't know, it's kind of crazy. It didn't
- 53:49Speaker 6: I don't think it really aged that well, to be honest,
- 53:51Speaker 6: due decided man.
- 53:53Speaker 5: Good thing. There's a remake coming out.
- 53:55Speaker 6: I think I'm good.
- 53:58Speaker 3: Well.
- 53:59Speaker 4: The way I watched this as a kid was clips
- 54:00Speaker 4: of it on Ebomb's World, and it was so taboo
- 54:04Speaker 4: like that way, And the worst thing about it now
- 54:08Speaker 4: was definitely the animal stuff because that was real. Sure
- 54:12Speaker 4: they were at a slaughterhouse, and I was just like, God, damn.
- 54:15Speaker 3: Was it the first Was it the first face of
- 54:17Speaker 3: death with the monkey brains?
- 54:19Speaker 5: The family?
- 54:19Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 54:20Speaker 4: I remember seeing that as a kid, and I don't know,
- 54:23Speaker 4: I guess because it was I don't know if it
- 54:25Speaker 4: was just because it was such low quality, but dude,
- 54:27Speaker 4: it freaked me out as a kid.
- 54:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:29Speaker 5: I mean the Bomb's World I think ruined most of
- 54:34Speaker 5: my childhood.
- 54:35Speaker 4: Oh yeah, dude.
- 54:37Speaker 3: And then I remember getting to a point where we
- 54:39Speaker 3: would go on like there was a website called I
- 54:42Speaker 3: think it was like rotten dot com and it posted
- 54:44Speaker 3: like real death clips and stuff like back when I
- 54:46Speaker 3: like beheading people and stuff. There was like bestcore and
- 54:49Speaker 3: nose sites that you know, we would you know, you're
- 54:51Speaker 3: a kid, you know, or you're I was a teenager,
- 54:54Speaker 3: you know, you're just like, oh, look cool this is,
- 54:56Speaker 3: And then as an adult, I'm like, what the fuck
- 54:58Speaker 3: was I doing?
- 55:01Speaker 5: God damn you guys.
- 55:03Speaker 8: Ever, do remember Reddit fifty to fifty.
- 55:07Speaker 5: I don't know what this is?
- 55:08Speaker 4: Oh?
- 55:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember that.
- 55:10Speaker 4: Yeah, it would be sucked up, dude.
- 55:13Speaker 8: It would have two scenarios. It would be like this.
- 55:16Speaker 7: It would be like a beheading, be anywhere, pro laps
- 55:19Speaker 7: status and you don't know what it is.
- 55:20Speaker 8: Oh and then you would click on the picture and
- 55:22Speaker 8: you get one or the other.
- 55:24Speaker 4: That sounds awesome.
- 55:27Speaker 8: Gamble, is that reddit called fifty to fifty?
- 55:30Speaker 5: So what was worse?
- 55:31Speaker 3: Watching real death clips or watching like two Girls one
- 55:35Speaker 3: cup or like cake farts?
- 55:38Speaker 4: Because like, take me back to my high school day.
- 55:40Speaker 6: I know, I'd kind of forgotten about that.
- 55:42Speaker 5: Yeah, well good, there you go. You're gonna be thinking
- 55:44Speaker 5: of it.
- 55:44Speaker 3: I can't wait for Jordan to text me be like,
- 55:46Speaker 3: because I'm watching Cannibal Holocaust and I'm thinking about two Girls,
- 55:48Speaker 3: one cup.
- 55:50Speaker 4: You think Viggar syndrome will do that on four k oh, dude, sure, My.
- 55:54Speaker 7: Cannibal Faarrox shorts are on their way right now.
- 56:00Speaker 10: I just had somebody remind me earlier about something that
- 56:03Speaker 10: I used to see on the internet and it was
- 56:04Speaker 10: a website called pin Olympics.
- 56:06Speaker 3: Oh yeah, director of August Underground idea.
- 56:15Speaker 4: There was fun. There was another one that was a
- 56:19Speaker 4: classic back in the computer lab days, back in high school.
- 56:22Speaker 4: It was the one Man, One Jar. Yeah, you gotta
- 56:27Speaker 4: be a sick faster.
- 56:29Speaker 8: There was all those one man, one horse or dude.
- 56:33Speaker 4: That that screen that that guy made. God, that video
- 56:42Speaker 4: waunts me off the rails.
- 56:45Speaker 5: This podcast, bro, We're in another. We're at level.
- 56:49Speaker 2: Bro.
- 56:49Speaker 5: I feel like I got the day real quick.
- 56:51Speaker 2: Man.
- 56:55Speaker 9: I pranked one of my friends with so I saw
- 56:59Speaker 9: I saw when I first saw the two girls one
- 57:01Speaker 9: Cup video. Man, I just kept staring at the screen
- 57:05Speaker 9: and I remember just having this experienced.
- 57:09Speaker 4: No.
- 57:09Speaker 6: I was like, I have this utter body.
- 57:12Speaker 9: Experience and I literally yelled out that.
- 57:14Speaker 6: I was like, that can't be real. I was like,
- 57:16Speaker 6: are you serious.
- 57:17Speaker 9: I was like, what the hell looks like one of
- 57:18Speaker 9: those McDonald's, Like, uh.
- 57:22Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 57:22Speaker 9: So I kept saying that, and like in shock, I
- 57:25Speaker 9: just kept saying the same thing, and my buddy walks in.
- 57:28Speaker 9: He's like, dude, what the hell are you yammering about?
- 57:30Speaker 9: And I looked at him and immediately had this impulsive thought.
- 57:33Speaker 9: I was like, you know what, I'm going to write
- 57:35Speaker 9: a script on my computer. So it just it keeps
- 57:38Speaker 9: playing it in loop, and I tell him, hey, come
- 57:40Speaker 9: over here, dude, and he comes over starts watching it, and.
- 57:44Speaker 6: He's like, oh my god, turn it off.
- 57:45Speaker 9: And he keeps trying to like press the escape button,
- 57:48Speaker 9: and it just keeps looping it and looping it closes,
- 57:50Speaker 9: it keeps hearing it, and the dude's like, what the
- 57:52Speaker 9: fuck's happening. It was the honest and horrifying thing I've
- 57:57Speaker 9: ever seen.
- 57:58Speaker 5: Oh my god. All right, So I don't know how
- 58:03Speaker 5: to transition this. I don't know.
- 58:05Speaker 6: I don't think you can.
- 58:06Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 58:07Speaker 5: Speaking of cups, what's your number three?
- 58:09Speaker 2: See to it was at number two?
- 58:14Speaker 6: Oh god? All right, well I gotta throw up. Got
- 58:18Speaker 6: zombie at number three. So I remember seeing this, man.
- 58:25Speaker 6: It was. This was another one, like right around the
- 58:27Speaker 6: time that I got into Cannibal Holocaust, And I remember
- 58:30Speaker 6: I had a friend of mine who let me borrow
- 58:32Speaker 6: her DVD of Zombie. I had never heard of it,
- 58:35Speaker 6: but I was like really going through, like going through
- 58:37Speaker 6: and like discovering new zombie movies. I'd never seen before,
- 58:41Speaker 6: and she put me onto this and I just remember
- 58:45Speaker 6: like the weird dubbing that it had on it, the
- 58:50Speaker 6: shark versus zombie scene, like the eyeball scene, all that stuff.
- 58:55Speaker 6: I mean, like I had seen a lot of the
- 58:57Speaker 6: American zombie movies, obviously, like The Living Dead on the Dead,
- 59:01Speaker 6: but up until that point, like I had never been
- 59:02Speaker 6: exposed to like this, the sub genre I was so
- 59:07Speaker 6: unfamiliar with, and man, that opened the door to really
- 59:11Speaker 6: giving Italian horror like a fair shake, to be honest.
- 59:15Speaker 6: So yea, yeah, I have nothing but positive things to
- 59:21Speaker 6: say about Lucio Folsche's Zombie.
- 59:23Speaker 3: I think I said this before on the show, but
- 59:24Speaker 3: my favorite part of that movie is the endless loop
- 59:28Speaker 3: of the amount of Molotovs they throw at the zombies
- 59:30Speaker 3: at the end in the barn, they throw like forty
- 59:33Speaker 3: five Molotovs at them, and the barn just never gets
- 59:36Speaker 3: more on fire.
- 59:37Speaker 5: Did they just loop it over and over again? Seemingly?
- 59:40Speaker 3: I remember this was this the first time? Clearly it's
- 59:44Speaker 3: not the first time we saw zombie rising out of
- 59:46Speaker 3: the ground, but was this the first time I remember
- 59:50Speaker 3: seeing like a bug infested zombie coming out of the ground.
- 59:54Speaker 3: I feel like that was a bit of the Italian
- 59:56Speaker 3: touch was like the worms. It just felt so gross,
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: you know what I mean.
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: Very over the top with the effects.
- 1:00:04Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, very over the top.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: And the shark versus zombie like come on which and
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: also to like to think about that was a professional
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: like diver that just gotten zombie makeup and they're like,
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: you're I think it was a I can't remember if
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: he was a diver or a shark handler. He was
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: some professional of some sort and they just put him
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: in zombie makeup and was like all right, we're gonna
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: go film this now.
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: Didn't they drug up the shark? I remember hearing something.
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: I think they did drug it up?
- 1:00:30Speaker 6: Ok.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's kind of fucked up.
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: It is fuck up? What's going on? What's going on
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: in Italy? The hell?
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: It's that like a deep blue sea situation?
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: Take this.
- 1:00:44Speaker 10: I could just only imagine what the guy that like
- 1:00:47Speaker 10: was running through that guy's mind when he was approaching
- 1:00:49Speaker 10: and was like, yeah, so we're gonna put you in
- 1:00:51Speaker 10: zombie makeup?
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Do you want to fight a shark underwater? Like? How
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: do you react to that? Yeah?
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: Well, that's like the most that's like the most Italian
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: response to Don the Dead I can think of. It's like,
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: all right, how do we one up it?
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: I mean, I would argue that, like side by side,
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: I prefer Zombie over Dawn the Dead, at least for me.
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: But wow, that's I hate to agree, but I do agree. Wow, okay,
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: because I love to death, but zombie is a masterpiece
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: to me. I love it.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that. So I talked about this on
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: an Instagram post. But back when I was a teenager,
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: I used to go on Arrowindehead dot com all the time.
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: That was like where I got all my hard news from.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: And they had this section of the website called kill
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: of the Day. And that was the first time I
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: saw the raft scene from the Burning and oh okay, yeah,
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: I saw all these iconic kills on there, and that
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: the splinter I scene, And just when you think that
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: scene takes it far enough, it just goes one further
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: by like snapping they would off in her eye. It's
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: like it always just had to go one more, you know,
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: like bring it one. And I don't even know how
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: you like those shots of her eyes getting closer.
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: Just give me.
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: It's uncomfortable.
- 1:02:12Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's just so slow.
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: There's have you noticed. I mean I went back like
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: I've been doing rewatch on some Aluco Fulci's films, but
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: a lot of eye stuff. Very uncomfortable. Not a fan.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: Yeah, he was obsessed.
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: I mean that scene of The Beyond with Joe the
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: Plumber when the finger goes in and like pushes it out.
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: Oh man.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: But Folgie had a certain there was a certain touch
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: to his movies that just always felt like more you
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: know what I mean. It's like when I know we're
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: not talking about the Beyond, but like the Spider scene
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: and the Beyond, it's just like it keeps going, It
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: keeps going, and then it starts going into the guy's
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: mouth and you're like, oh my god, what is it good?
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: And then it bites his tongue and then the head
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: falls over and the blood falls out of it.
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: It just kept it keeps going. Just oh it's gross, man.
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: Man, that poor guy. Yeah, pour one out for Joe
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: the Plumber.
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: Oh my god, Joe the Plumber.
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: Like Chuck, you're wearing the zombie shirt. What's your take
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: on Zombie being number three in the Most Essentials?
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: I mean, I agree with Steve, it's A.
- 1:03:19Speaker 10: I really enjoy it, but I do you prefer the
- 1:03:22Speaker 10: other two that we're gonna be talking about over it.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: It's a fun up marathon that we're giving people. Yeah,
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: if you've never if you've never watched Italian horror, and
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: then you go off this list as your five starting points,
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: you're gonna lose your fucking mind.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: Uh, wearing Cannibal shorts and.
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: Skyrocket Dude, I feel like we all have to commit
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: to that purchase.
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: We've never sold more accountable Farerox shorts in our life.
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: Let's go on.
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: Jordan, I know you just got The Blue Underground. Uh, Bobby,
- 1:03:59Speaker 5: did you watch it?
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: I did?
- 1:04:00Speaker 7: Well, Yeah, I watched it and I was going to
- 1:04:03Speaker 7: rewatch it again. I started it today, but like I said,
- 1:04:06Speaker 7: I fell asleep. But yeah, just the one scene that
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: always stands out to me, and you guys have talked
- 1:04:13Speaker 7: about it already is the eyeball scene. I mean that
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: the shot, the way, the angle it shot of her
- 1:04:20Speaker 7: going up to the plank of wood screaming. I mean,
- 1:04:22Speaker 7: it's an iconic just you freeze frame right there, and
- 1:04:26Speaker 7: that's immediately what I think of what I think is
- 1:04:28Speaker 7: zombie is that exact scene right there. Yeah, but it's
- 1:04:33Speaker 7: it's very fulgy, Like I said, and we're not talking
- 1:04:36Speaker 7: about this, but you know, I just watched The Psychic
- 1:04:39Speaker 7: and uh, that's that's that's kind of like his off shoot.
- 1:04:43Speaker 7: Just that doesn't feel like a Folsy film, but this
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: one feels like this is classic faulty that we're getting
- 1:04:48Speaker 7: right here.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: Man, going from The Psychic to Zombie is whiplashed.
- 1:04:53Speaker 8: If I've ever Yeah, I actually watched those two today.
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: Oh god, damn, how's your bad?
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:04:59Speaker 8: Coming back to back.
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: GC. Have you seen Zombie?
- 1:05:03Speaker 6: Dude?
- 1:05:03Speaker 9: I have not, but I am excited for the trauma.
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: I can't wait. We need a T shirt of that, dude.
- 1:05:10Speaker 9: It sounds seriously or like a hat.
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: I'm excited for the trauma.
- 1:05:15Speaker 9: Yeah, dude, it sounds amazing.
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:05:17Speaker 9: I mean, so far, anything you guys have recommended sent
- 1:05:19Speaker 9: my way, I mean it's it has not disappointed.
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean, Christian, you clearly love Zombie. So
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: what's your opinion on the placement here?
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: I'm interested. I don't know. Apparently Chuck knows. I don't
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: know what number two number one is already. I'm I
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: have a guess of what they could be. But for me,
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: this is the greatest Italian horror movie of all time.
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: And it's kind of a cliche answer. I get that,
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: but I really love Zombie. I think it's just so
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: in your face. I love the music to it. It's
- 1:05:49Speaker 4: so eerie and creepy. And I think that VHS that
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: he has actually has like a slightly alternate title credits
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: because brand I don't know if you guys know who
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: Brandon is, the guy that does that show Planet Dirty
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: with me, he was he He talks about that VHS
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: all the time that it has like a yeah, it
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: has a different kind of intro, like if the title
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: the movie flashes differently or something. It's a it's not
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: necessarily a different cut of the movie, but it's got
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: like a like a unique intro to it compared to
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: like all the DVDs and Blu rays. But I love it.
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: I think Falcy was just like hold my beer with
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: this movie. And uh, the shark scene is just it's insane.
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: It's it's so it's it's like something like a like
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: a kid would think of, like what if a zombie
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: fought a shark? Yeah, and it's just like yeah, okay,
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: but no, it actually happened so yeah, I love this
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: movie with every fiber of my being. It's my favorite
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: Italian horror movie of all time.
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: Yeah, dude, it's definitely a staple. I don't I don't remember.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: I know at some point you told us the movies
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: you were thinking about, but I don't think you sent
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: them an order.
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: So I'm really curious about number two.
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: A lot of sleepless nights. I'm just kidding, speaking on
- 1:07:05Speaker 6: kind of on a side note. But Fabio Fritzy has
- 1:07:08Speaker 6: a tour going on right now, so I'm excited I
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: get to see him live coming up here shortly.
- 1:07:13Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, I think he's coming to Philly on
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: that tour as well. But I haven't crooked that. I
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: haven't looked at going yet. I hate going into Philly.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: So.
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: Philly. Going into Philly is a lot like going into
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: a fool cheap movies.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: It definitely feels like it. Man, especially Kensington.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: Yeah, well, you know, you want to talk about zombie,
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: you go to Kensington, bro it's all around.
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: Oh god, uh so what.
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: Do you got for number two?
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: So number two? I would have to roll with Suspiria
- 1:07:50Speaker 6: for number two. Now here's here's one thing I gotta
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: throw out there Suspiria okay, is or is it as yallow?
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: I don't consider that as yallow. But yet I hear
- 1:08:03Speaker 6: that put in the conversation with a lot of people
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: when they're talking about either Italian horror shallow. I always
- 1:08:10Speaker 6: felt like it was. It's like, I mean, it's more
- 1:08:13Speaker 6: like like supernatural than anything supernatural horror in a way.
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: I'll be I'll be that guy. It is not as yallow.
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: I'll be that guy.
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: Yeah, nothing about when I watched I watched the Spiria
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: last night, and the thing I love is nothing in
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: that movie feels real, Like there isn't a single I mean,
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: even like the rain, the storm in the beginning does
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: not feel real. None of the colors feel real, none
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: of the production design feels real, The interactions every character
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: doesn't feel real. The whole thing just feels like a
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: I hate to say a nightmare, because it's more like
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: a it's more just like a dream. But Suspiria, to me,
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: while it's Argento's most I think it has to be seen.
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: Like I think, if you're gonna get in an Italian horror,
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: you have to watch Suspiria.
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: But I think.
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: Suspiria actually lowers in my ranking the more I get
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: into deeper Italian horror, if that makes sense. Mm hmmm,
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: because like every time I come across something new, it
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: just pushes Suspiria like down a notch and I love it.
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: I think that movie is technically brilliant, and I think
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: that movie inspired tons of filmmakers and coloring. I mean,
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: I don't know if there was a more inspirational Italian
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: horror film ever on on worldwide filmmaking than Suspiria at
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: that time.
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: The color palette is it's like eye candy.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's so good to look at.
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it's incredible, dude. The production design, like that opening
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: scene in the how like how how is that staircase there?
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: Even the light above the elevator, like, none of it
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: feels It's like, I don't know, man, it's so out there.
- 1:10:00Speaker 5: It's it's just so crazy to me.
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: What gets me is how that movie looks so incredible
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: compared to everything that came out during that time. It
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: just whatever technology he had, I swear he just went
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: to the future and got better equipment, because that movie
- 1:10:20Speaker 4: looks absolutely insane in high definition.
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: Oh my god, dude, that four K I hate when
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: people typically say this, but I think that's like a
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: reference quality.
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: One thousand percent, Like it's not even a debate how
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: good that movie. It's I'm done. I'm baffled by it.
- 1:10:39Speaker 4: It's like, why does this look incredible? Like it's it's
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: perfect in every aspect. I don't I wonder how you know.
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: You know, he was Argento. I feel like there's a
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: lot of people who try to discredit Argento and say, like, oh,
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: his movies are like whatever, that's that's basic Italian horror.
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: That guy used technology.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: I think it was Tenebrae had the first ever, like
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: one of the first ever techno crane shots, the scene
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: when it goes over the roof and it goes in
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: the window and it goes up slowly over the roof
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: and then it comes down on the other side of
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: the house and we're back looking in a different room window,
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: and then it comes back around and kind of around
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: the roof again. That was like one of the first
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: times ever a techno crane had been used in a film,
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: and he did it, so I feel like he embraced
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: new filmmaking styles, but he also like such a visionary
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: you know what I mean, And you have to think
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: too from a technical point of view. You walk into
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: a room.
- 1:11:46Speaker 5: It's easy for you to.
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: Light a white room or you know, a dark room whatever,
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: you can light that. How do you light and technically
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: figure out a room that's nine shades of red and
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: has insane a sticks colored you know, glass stained window, Like,
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: how do you do this stuff? I mean even the
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: shots of like the death scenes feel so like there's
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: not a single mistake or a single mishap, there's nothing.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: Everything feels so intentional.
- 1:12:16Speaker 6: Those death scenes feel like a work of art. Not
- 1:12:19Speaker 6: to be weird, but like the way that he stylizes them,
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: it's it's very uh like ahead of its time.
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: No it is. And I think about the start of
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: that movie. You have her in the airport and then.
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: It cuts to this crazy zoom shot of the door
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: and you have the music, and then it cuts back
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: to her and there's no music, and you cut back
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: to the door and it's the music, and then the
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: the storm even like how the taxi driver doesn't help her,
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: you know what I mean, She's like.
- 1:12:43Speaker 5: Can I have a hand?
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: What by the way, and she goes like, oh, how
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: long has it been raining like this? And he's like
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: half hour you're like, oh, okay, Yeah, there's so much
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: about it. And dude, there's a shot in this movie.
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: Let me just nerd out about this in the very
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: beginning when he's driving her to the dance studio that's.
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: In the woods.
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: Yeah, and you in.
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: The distance see the car approaching, And every single time
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: I watch.
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: That, I'm just like, what the fuck is going? How
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: did he do this?
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: I just don't get it. Man, that movie blows my
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: mind technically. But what did you guys think of the remake?
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: Did anybody see the Luca Guadnino remake?
- 1:13:21Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: I like that it it didn't feel like a complete
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: retread of the original because I feel like if you
- 1:13:29Speaker 6: had gone down that road, it's it's almost like impossible
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: to replicate what Argento did. But the like the remake,
- 1:13:39Speaker 6: that end, like the end sequence just goes completely off
- 1:13:43Speaker 6: the rails, like there's there's nothing like it.
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: My only issue with it is at the two and
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: a half hours leading up to the end scene is
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: like a a slog in my opinion, But that's just
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: me and I just picked up that four K two
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: from from Imprint, So I'm gonna give it a re
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: is it?
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: I always forget me a gothas in that?
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: And Dakota Johnson Dakota Johnson yea. And then what is
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: her name? Telda Swinton who plays the male she's a
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: male character in it. She plays the old man.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: That's true. Yeah, it's it's pretty good. I like the
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: ending a lot. But apparently mister Argento hated it. Yeah
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: right here, which I think is awesome. I love it.
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: It's just so refreshing. Actually hear somebody be honest for once, like,
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: you really want to tell me? John Carpenter thinks the
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: new Halloween films are great, Like, come.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: On, I was just about to say that when he
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: I remember when he put out the quote about Halloween
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: Kills and he was like, this is the ultimate slasher movie.
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: It's ridiculous. And I was like, okay, dude, absolutely wait,
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: just give it a few more years. He'll finally be like, uh, you.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Know, there always comes a point with him where he's
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: like I made a lot of money from that, and
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: you're like, okay, I get the point.
- 1:14:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's coming, it's coming.
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: What Chuck Jordan GC, what are you? What do you
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: guys think about Suspiria as a second pick for essential
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: Italian Horror.
- 1:15:12Speaker 8: I'll be honest, I've never seen it.
- 1:15:15Speaker 5: I know.
- 1:15:16Speaker 7: I'm just what I will say though, from i've heard
- 1:15:22Speaker 7: you know, obviously, I've heard heard so much about it.
- 1:15:24Speaker 8: I just Italian films I'm very very new to. But uh,
- 1:15:30Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:15:30Speaker 7: I guess it makes sense that it's that they're that high,
- 1:15:33Speaker 7: right by how how much people talk about it.
- 1:15:37Speaker 8: That's all I can really say on that.
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, what about you men?
- 1:15:42Speaker 10: Yeah, So I actually just watched this for the first
- 1:15:44Speaker 10: time the other day, and I remember like one of
- 1:15:47Speaker 10: the things that stuck at whenever anybody would talk about
- 1:15:49Speaker 10: this film was the lighten and the different colors. So
- 1:15:52Speaker 10: when I actually got to see it for the first.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: Time, it just blew me away. It's just these set
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: pieces are so beautiful.
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: And that's score is haunting.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: I threw that on the other day when I was
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: just hanging out here in the movie room and I
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: just put it on and I had it was like
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: sixty five, so I had the windows open and it
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: was right in.
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: Uh right.
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: I think it's the second track when you have the
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: choir coming in and there's like people walking their dog outside.
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: I'm like, they probably think I'm in here, you know,
- 1:16:23Speaker 3: be in a weird hour. So at that score is freaky, man,
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: really freaky.
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: GC.
- 1:16:30Speaker 5: Have you ever seen this.
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: One, dude?
- 1:16:32Speaker 9: Once again, I'm ashamed to admit I have not, But
- 1:16:35Speaker 9: so far with Steve's track record, I mean, if you
- 1:16:38Speaker 9: put it number two, I mean I can't argue with it.
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm assuming everybody here is big physical media people.
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: Might I recommend going on eBay and getting the Anchor Bay.
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: It's a chunky Suspiria release that has the CD. This
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: came out on September eleventh, two thousand and one, on
- 1:17:00Speaker 4: the day.
- 1:17:02Speaker 8: Yeah, I watched her video on that do that. It
- 1:17:04Speaker 8: looks pretty cool.
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: Also shout out to Alice Cooper. This is his second
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: favorite horror movie, followed by the Great Carnival of Souls,
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: which you gotta respect that, but yeah, pretty cool that Alice.
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: Alice loves uh Suspiria.
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: Yeah, that's really and especially Carnival Soul. That's Carnival Souls.
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: That's even that's even cool.
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: I just watch that because of Alice.
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: Yeah really, Yeah, that's one of those that was one
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: that I always felt was like to prestige for me
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: because it was on Criterion.
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought so too, But I liked it. I
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: liked it a lot. Yeah.
- 1:17:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: That the end scene with all of the souls in
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: the old carnival, it's great, man, Yeah, so good. Yeah,
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: Suspiria is I think I don't. I definitely, I definitely
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: agree with the placing. I think you have to you
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: have to see, you have to experience. Obviously, the best
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: way you experience it is that Synaps four K. There's
- 1:17:56Speaker 3: no doubt about it. That's one of the best. It's
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: amazing to me, like Christian said, how that movie looks
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: compared to the movies that came out the same year
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: that are also on four K.
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: It's just such a difference.
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: It's if it like if somebody gets a four K
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: player and they ask me, uh, like, what should I get?
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: Even if not like the Synaps did a four K
- 1:18:19Speaker 4: remaster on in Blu ray and it has this great
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: artwork they did. It's kind of like a purplish blue
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: I tell people even that release, like that movie just
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: looks good, Like it just looks good. It's it's undeniable.
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: How that is one of the best looking horror films
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: I've ever seen.
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: That's another That's another movie where I was always obsessed
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: with the poster, just a black poster.
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: Black. Yeah, dude, there's another one with like a girl
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: like on the front. I don't know if it's an
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: original or not, but she has like a skeleton face.
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: I think that I can't. I think that might be
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: some sort of b poster or something.
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: But yeah, my.
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: Wife actually got me all on a Suspiria. She showed
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: me that movie back when we first started dating, and
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: I hated it. I never watched any Italian horror movies.
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: It's like they're dubbing the voices.
- 1:19:05Speaker 6: You know, it is it is starring.
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: It took me years, and I had to tiptoe back
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: in years later, you know. I started watching different stuff,
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: and then finally I saw h Demons as a matter
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: of fact, and then I was like, oh my god,
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: this is great. Then I watched Zombie, and then I
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: went back and watched Saspiria, and I was like, God,
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: what was my problem? You know? But I really wasn't ready.
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: I do think that you can get into it at
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: the wrong time, like you kind of gotta, you gotta gotta,
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: you know, watch some stuff first, kind of just just
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: watch different types of horror movies first in America and
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: then started dip tiptoeing into Italian horror.
- 1:19:45Speaker 3: You know, can you imagine never watching an Italian horror film,
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: never seeing anything dubbed, and then putting on House by
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: the Cemetery. And though, when Bob starts talking.
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: That's a channel changer right there.
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: Oh look, I think I've said it on like four
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: episodes of this podcast, but just shout out again Daniel
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: from the Cobweb channel on his video talking about House
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: of the Cemetery when he so casually said, what's most
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: amazing about House by the Cemetery is that they cast
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: Mickey Mouse.
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: As the voice of Bob. It's so up until this point, Okay,
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: we have four.
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: Technically we've given five because we had a special we
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: had a special mention. I would tell everybody seek all
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: these out, find every single one of these. I'm so
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: curious because I genuinely don't know what number one is
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: going to be. But in order to trump Suspiria, Trump demons, trump,
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: cannibal Holocaust. At this point, like, what are you pulling
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: out of the bag for your number one? Most essential
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: Italian horror film.
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: Well, guys, covered, Oh god, here we go night Killer.
- 1:20:58Speaker 5: There's no way. Oh no, all right, I didn't know
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: Claudio Forgasso.
- 1:21:08Speaker 6: A stone cold classic.
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: Wait is it? You're not joking?
- 1:21:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm just messing.
- 1:21:16Speaker 5: Okay, I.
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: Gotta talk Monster. We could talk Monster Dog if we're
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: gonna talk Claudio.
- 1:21:23Speaker 6: I was about to say, that's I feel like that,
- 1:21:25Speaker 6: that's in a very similar realm. No, I got to
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: show us some love for night Killer. But no, that
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: is not what I'm choosing for the top choice to
- 1:21:32Speaker 6: make sure what are we doing? I got the Beyond.
- 1:21:35Speaker 6: I had to, and not just because with like the
- 1:21:38Speaker 6: recent four K obviously that that's like, uh you know,
- 1:21:42Speaker 6: that's like a huge milestone, especially for how long we
- 1:21:45Speaker 6: had to wait for it. But this is this one.
- 1:21:49Speaker 6: I go back and forth with some of these top choices,
- 1:21:52Speaker 6: like I like Study of the Living Dead a lot,
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: but this one I can confidently say is my my
- 1:21:58Speaker 6: top choice.
- 1:22:00Speaker 5: Dude, I yeah, I think.
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: I think the Gates of Hell trilogy is pretty much
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: like I don't think you can go wrong with picking
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: any of them. There there's something different about The Beyond
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: compared to City, Living Dead and House by the Cemetery.
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: There's just something so so different when it comes to
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: like the CPIA toned prologue. And I told you guys,
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: I think before how we're on after Hours. How we
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: actually learned when I was watching The four K that
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: my wife had seen this movie as a kid and
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: had no idea. She just had memories of somebody being
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: whipped by a chain and getting acid thrown on them.
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: And then she said to me, is there a scene
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: in a library? And I was like, I don't remember,
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: And then she comes out and it's the scene in
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: the when he's looking at the books and she's we
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: discovered that she watched The Beyond at some point in
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: her life, and uh yeah, I think this is a
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: pretty perfect movie. And I mean this is something where
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: like now a lot of people are finding this Like
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: I had the Grindhouse releasing Blu Ray Forever. That was
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: a fantastic release. But now it's opening up to a
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: whole new world with the new four K put out,
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: which is a stunning release from Grindhouse, unlike anything they've
- 1:23:24Speaker 3: ever done before. There it is I have minds in
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: the other room.
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: I got the yellow they got the blue one what's
- 1:23:33Speaker 4: the most basic color? I feel like I who did
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: anybody get the green one?
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: I think I got blue as well.
- 1:23:39Speaker 8: I got blue.
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: Yeah, they got green blue. That looks so much cooler.
- 1:23:44Speaker 8: But GC got this.
- 1:23:46Speaker 4: It won't look at and for.
- 1:23:48Speaker 8: The eye like that like a crystal shop.
- 1:23:51Speaker 9: Yeah, man, So I was telling Jordan, I was telling
- 1:23:53Speaker 9: the guys in the chat that if you go to
- 1:23:55Speaker 9: your local, because my girlfriend actually found this. She paid
- 1:23:58Speaker 9: like two or three bucks for it. But it's a
- 1:24:01Speaker 9: little like a little stand and he just sits perfectly
- 1:24:07Speaker 9: on there.
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: What what color is that?
- 1:24:10Speaker 9: That's a orange one?
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: Orange make?
- 1:24:19Speaker 3: They commented on my unboxing of it, and they told
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: they said, they answered somebody's question about it. They did,
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: where then is this video?
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: How long did this ship come out?
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:24:35Speaker 6: What the heck?
- 1:24:36Speaker 5: They said?
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: Oh, the yellow is the rare one. They said, they
- 1:24:40Speaker 3: did yellow red or yellow, orange, green and blue? Yellow
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: is the rare one. They called it the rare yellow
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: eye of eyebond.
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: Well, I got green.
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: I got blue again.
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: Then again, I'm the only one here with green, so
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: maybe it's not that common.
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: So yeah, could be.
- 1:25:01Speaker 9: Yeah, we all got different colors too, man, that's kind
- 1:25:03Speaker 9: of cool. That we're I feel like we're Power Rangers
- 1:25:05Speaker 9: or something.
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: Oh yeah, wait, you just like, you know, when it
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: goes to the transformation, you just say like you're Lucio Filga,
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: you know what I mean.
- 1:25:19Speaker 5: And that's what you're trying to.
- 1:25:21Speaker 9: Hold up like a screenshot of it on the screen
- 1:25:23Speaker 9: instead of the warfare.
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: It's like the it's like the Thirteen Ghosts, except it's
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: all Lucio deaths from their movies. Like you're like, holy shit,
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: is that the Tarantula guy?
- 1:25:36Speaker 9: I have a question for you guys, so you know,
- 1:25:40Speaker 9: seeing how the the mounts of love that you guys
- 1:25:43Speaker 9: have for Italian you know, horror and the Italian genre
- 1:25:46Speaker 9: in general, have you have any of you tried to
- 1:25:49Speaker 9: learn Italian to be able to kind of just enjoy
- 1:25:54Speaker 9: the films?
- 1:25:54Speaker 5: And it's no, I'm not, I'm not. I'm not that.
- 1:25:58Speaker 5: I'm not that into it. Oh okay, I struggle with English.
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: Sometimes and I watch a lot of my so my
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: grandparents on my stepdad's family are from Italy, and uh,
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: I always wonder, like I always want to ask my grandmom, like,
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: at any point in your life were you ever interested
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: in uh, you know, some gallos, like did you ever
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: sit down and watch Short Night of Glass Dolls or
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: you know any of these. I just know I remember
- 1:26:29Speaker 3: being so stereotypical. But when I was a kid, my
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: grandparents owned one VHS and it was The Godfather.
- 1:26:36Speaker 5: And I feel like that's a little on the nose
- 1:26:38Speaker 5: for me, you know what I mean.
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: And that's how I watched That's how that's the first
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: time I ever saw The Godfather was at their house
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: on the double VHS. Yep, And I was like, did
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: I just watch the Pinnacle Italian mob movie at my
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: Italian grandparents' house and this is all they own?
- 1:26:54Speaker 6: Yeah. I started asking one of my best friends. He
- 1:26:58Speaker 6: had The Godfather and Rocky and that was it, Like
- 1:27:02Speaker 6: no other movies. It was just just like those two collections.
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: Rocky tell you, Nique, I guess.
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: So maybe he was ahead of the curve.
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: And it's so funny, man, being from South Jersey essentially,
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: so like South Jersey is is Philly and then North
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: Jersey's New York. That's kind of the divide. It's almost
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: like two different states, like we don't really interact with
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: one another.
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: And we both hate how each other.
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: Yeah, so being from this area, it's funny like the
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: whole curse of people coming in and putting like Kansas
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: City gear on the rock jew and stuff like that.
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: It's it's funny how that stuff, even like Creed, you
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: know they redid the rocky thing in Philly because Philly
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: is notorious for the quads and dirt bikes on the street,
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: so like they came and did that. It's a funny thing, man,
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: how that, how that, how that happens. But yeah, the beyond, man,
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: I'm happy it's getting such a resurgence and this this
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: four K is fantastic. I don't don't know if Christian
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: did you watch it yet?
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I loved it. I watched just the regular first
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: disc cut I never got the chance to watch had
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: seven doors cut on that. But yeah, yeah, I loved it.
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: I thought it looked phenomenal.
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: Yeah, especially due right when that opening scene started. I
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: was blown away.
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: That's where I was impressed the most, because you know
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: that it's a dark, dark scene, and you really it
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: looked really good. It was really crisp.
- 1:28:24Speaker 7: Yeah, audio track with this other than the composer cut,
- 1:28:32Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: I don't remember. I'll be honestly, I don't remember. My
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: room is a massive off.
- 1:28:37Speaker 7: Catching it, and it literally like the thunder right at
- 1:28:41Speaker 7: the beginning when she's walking over to the book, it
- 1:28:45Speaker 7: like shook my living room.
- 1:28:47Speaker 8: Maybe it sounded so good.
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: So I don't know, Jordan, I would I would check
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: your I think your WiFi routers on fire Man.
- 1:28:59Speaker 6: You're going him man overheating.
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: He's coming back, He's coming back. The mouse is starting
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: to run again on the wheel? Can I can I
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: kind of probe Steve a little bit and not in
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: a sexual way, just like ask him a few things
- 1:29:15Speaker 4: about the top right, Yeah, like a bidet. I gotta
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: give you a little put so so, not pushback, but
- 1:29:25Speaker 4: in response to watching The Beyond, like a week or
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: so ago, when I got the four k mm hmm,
- 1:29:31Speaker 4: I was like, I gotta go back and watch City
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: of Living Dead again. I watched that one again. It's
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: really hard for me not to say that that one
- 1:29:42Speaker 4: is as good, if not better than The Beyond. Do
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: you ever go back and forth with some of these folds?
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: My question is this, are you like me where when
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: you watch these films your favorite could kind of seesaw
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: when you watch whatever one it is the latest, because
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: you're always impressed by it.
- 1:30:02Speaker 6: Okay, I'll be honest with you, because it's that top choice.
- 1:30:07Speaker 6: That top spot is always between The Beyond and City
- 1:30:12Speaker 6: of the Living Dead, and it's it's so tough because
- 1:30:15Speaker 6: there's things I like about both of them, and I
- 1:30:19Speaker 6: wouldn't say it was like more of like a recency
- 1:30:22Speaker 6: bias because I just watched both of them like within
- 1:30:24Speaker 6: the last week or so. But I don't know why.
- 1:30:27Speaker 6: I think it was just with the anticipation of how
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: long we had all been anticipating the four K from Grindhouse,
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: but watching it this time around, I was like, fuck, man,
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: like I have to put that at the top now.
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: There was for the longest time, I would say a
- 1:30:47Speaker 6: City of the Living Dead had had that top spot
- 1:30:50Speaker 6: for me, and it just kind of sways a little bit.
- 1:30:53Speaker 6: I think those are the two that i'd say one
- 1:30:55Speaker 6: A one B.
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: Essentially, I think his top five kind of sway most
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: for me because a couple of months ago, when I
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: watched New York Ripper, I was like, well, fuck, that's
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: my favorite Fulcio movie. And then I remember watching City
- 1:31:08Speaker 3: of Living Dead and I was like, well, fuck, there
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: it goes, there's is and then when The Beyond came out,
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: I was like, oh, fuck, well, that's my favorite ful
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: Shio movie.
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: The Beyond is is just fantastic and I really do
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: love it. But every time I watch City of a
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: Living Dead, there's a scene in that movie that I
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: used to have nightmares about as a kid, long before
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: I saw the movie, and it's one of my favorite
- 1:31:30Speaker 4: scenes of all time. When the guy is at the
- 1:31:33Speaker 4: cemetery and he thinks he hears somebody screaming in the casket,
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: and he stops and he's like, nah, I'm going nuts.
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: Then he walks off a little bit again. Then he
- 1:31:44Speaker 4: thinks he hears it again, and then he starts hearing.
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: Then he starts chopping into the ground and chopping into
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: the casket. That scene is one of my favorite scenes
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: of all time. And when I think about The Beyond,
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: I say, what in the Beyond do I find to
- 1:31:58Speaker 4: be better than that? It's just a personal taste because
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: I'm from Louisiana and that's where I'm from. So like man,
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: I rode the Causeway Bridge as a kid. All that bridge.
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: It is the one of the nastiest, longest bridges of
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: all I used to get on it and just close
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: my eyes. The entire time. I hated it because, Okay,
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: if you get an accident on that bridge and like
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: you fall off the side of it, dude, it's like
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: being in the ocean. You know, you don't see land
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: for a long time when you get on that.
- 1:32:25Speaker 6: Bridge, Christian, you can attest to it. Because we were
- 1:32:28Speaker 6: talking about this, we had a conversation about the beyond.
- 1:32:31Speaker 6: I think it was like the other night, and I
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: was trying to explain to them how uncomfortable being on
- 1:32:37Speaker 6: the Causeway bridge is. Like I was down there, not
- 1:32:40Speaker 6: maybe like within the last like three years. I was
- 1:32:42Speaker 6: down there for my bachelor party and I was overly caffeinated.
- 1:32:47Speaker 6: We're driving down this and like I hadn't been down
- 1:32:50Speaker 6: there in a long time, and you look around and
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: you can't see shit but water.
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: That's it, yes, And I'm like, essentially like driving over
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: the ocean, essentially, that's what it feels like. Oh, it's
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: it's it's long, it's it takes like twenty five thirty
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: minutes get over it. I think without traffic.
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: I think what's most amazing is Christian, for all of
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: your talents, that you drove across the entire bridge with
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: your eyes closed.
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: I think I was.
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: It's so funny because like as a kid, I mean,
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: we used to go because we were dude. I was
- 1:33:24Speaker 4: from the bottom of the boot of Louisiana. I grew
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: up in Santproar Parish. So if you look on a
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: map that if you're looking at Louisiana, you guys know
- 1:33:31Speaker 4: the shape of the state. I'm sure I am the bottom, right,
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: I am the toe of the boot. I am the toe.
- 1:33:39Speaker 4: I was next to the ocean, sap in our parish.
- 1:33:41Speaker 4: You can't get no lower than me. That's why when
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: Katrina hit, I had twenty feet of water in my neighborhood.
- 1:33:47Speaker 4: But when we would go to the malls and stuff,
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: and we went from the south shore to the north shore,
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: we're crossing the poncha train And I mean we went
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: over it two three times a month all the time,
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: and it never got easier. It was always anxiety inducing.
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: You just sat there and I just I just sit
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: there and just close my eyes, put on my walkman,
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: ear buzz. You know, back then it's just it and
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: my parents like it wasn't nothing to him. But man,
- 1:34:20Speaker 4: and I remember one time that was a bad wreck,
- 1:34:23Speaker 4: like a motorcycle wreck or something, and we were on
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: the bridge because there ain't no eggs, there ain't no
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: side lane we could drive around. I mean we were
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: on that bridge for like eight six seven hours one day.
- 1:34:34Speaker 6: What happens if it storms? Where do you go?
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: You drive very very slow?
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: Fuck that man.
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: So, I mean that picture of Foulchy sitting on the
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: director's chair on the bridge is just amazing to me,
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: you know, because I did I want I like, I
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: can't remember if I read about it or not, but
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: like I wonder how they did that scene. They were
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: they able to just they were able to shut off
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: the bridge for fifteen twenty minutes to shoot that shot.
- 1:35:02Speaker 5: They actually it's in the book that came with this
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: release they had.
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: It was like a friend of a friend had worked
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: something in the local area and they were able to
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: close one lane and they used the allotted I think
- 1:35:14Speaker 3: it was two hours, and I think they ran all
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: the way to two hours, and Fulgi was like they
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: wanted to reopen the lane and full She was like, no,
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: you're gonna wait because I want a picture. So then
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: the man pulled out the chair and sat down and
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: got that picture. Like it went over time that he
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: was allowed to just to get that photo.
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: Yeah, which is amazing.
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: I mean well, I mean it's it's a great movie.
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: I love it. I love the because I can feel
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: Louisiana when I watch it. I really can. You know.
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: It is as humid and gross as it looks too,
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: It really is.
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it's so funny you say that, because I
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: remember watching it just thinking like everyone looks like it's
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: like ninety degrees, like ninety percent humidity.
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: The due point is out of control.
- 1:35:55Speaker 8: It looks sweaty all the time.
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: It's pointless. Have it's pointless having hair and Luisa, you know, I.
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: Feel like I feel like now, I feel like next
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: time if I if I ever go to Louisiana, I'm
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: just gonna be looking for Joe the Plumber guys that
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: look like him everywhere, you know what I mean, No, dude,
- 1:36:13Speaker 3: The Beyond is is an incredible pick.
- 1:36:15Speaker 5: I think it's the most accessible.
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: Like I as much as I love City the Living Dead,
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: I remember having a really hard time with that movie
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: the first time I saw it. Well, the drill, I mean,
- 1:36:24Speaker 3: even like the throwing up of you know, the insides is.
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: It's just insane, dude. Yeah, Like there's something haunting about
- 1:36:32Speaker 4: City Living Dead to me that like today i'd say
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: that when I take over the Beyond a little bit.
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: But if you asked me two days ago, I would
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: have said the Beyond, and maybe two days from now
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: I would say no, no, no, it is to Beyond again.
- 1:36:46Speaker 4: Like it's just one of those things. But I was
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: pretty high off of City of Living Dead.
- 1:36:50Speaker 3: City Living Dead feels feels for a trilogy about hell.
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: City of Living Dead feels a lot more like satanic.
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I like that stuff, anything
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: that has a little bit of kind of religious kind
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: of overt like that. Like somebody mentioned the Church earlier
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: and I love dude, that's not a movie. It's funny
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: because like I don't see a lot of people go
- 1:37:14Speaker 4: to that one or talk about that one because it's
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: kind of like the one a Italian horror movies. Like
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: you know, a lot of conversations you have you don't
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: really get past talking about Argento or Faulcy stuff. And
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: kind of rightfully so, I mean I think Faulcy, all
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: due respect to our gento, I think some of you
- 1:37:33Speaker 4: with a great Faulcy is the is the god.
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: Yeah he's the.
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: Guy, right, But you don't really get into a lot
- 1:37:39Speaker 4: of the conversations about like the Church, the sact or
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: the strange vice of Missus War like all those kind
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: of you know, those deeper cuts. But the Church.
- 1:37:51Speaker 6: I liked it.
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: There are some quirky things about it, like they meet
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: in the church, they instantly bang that night and they
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: go like It's like there's cultural things about the movies
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: that like. I think that's what really throws people off too,
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: because some of it just doesn't make sense. I think
- 1:38:08Speaker 4: with the.
- 1:38:09Speaker 7: Church for me, and I was the one who said
- 1:38:10Speaker 7: that's one of them. My favorite is when I was
- 1:38:13Speaker 7: getting into Italian I didn't really understand it at first.
- 1:38:16Speaker 7: I think the first one I watched was Opera and
- 1:38:19Speaker 7: I was like okay, But I was talking to Chris
- 1:38:23Speaker 7: and he's like, no, check out the Church.
- 1:38:24Speaker 8: I think you're like that more than the sector. I
- 1:38:26Speaker 8: will check him out.
- 1:38:27Speaker 7: And I think when I watched The Church is when
- 1:38:29Speaker 7: I like, Okay, I get it. I love this genre
- 1:38:33Speaker 7: of horror like this, I absolutely and that it holds
- 1:38:36Speaker 7: a place for me that I just think of immediately
- 1:38:39Speaker 7: with Italian horror because that's when I really started Okay,
- 1:38:43Speaker 7: it clicks now.
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and what's funny about Italian horror is a lot
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: of a lot of Gallo's were not made by Jallo directors.
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: There was very few Italian horror directors who stayed in
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: that so, like if you Dive into the Shallow Essential
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: set from Air, a lot of those movies were like
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: one offs, like the directors just it was a trend,
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: so they made it. Like one of my favorites is
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: The Killer Reserve nine seats out of I think the
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: Yellow White Box. I forget the director's name, but never
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: made another Shallo. Even if you look at there's a
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: lot of eyes on short Night of Glass Dolls, Auto Lato,
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: you know he did Night Train Murders, or I forget
- 1:39:23Speaker 3: offhand the director of Case of the Bloody Iris. I
- 1:39:25Speaker 3: don't know if he was essentially like a shallow director technically,
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: but like Folci, Foci reached a point in his career
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: because he was I mean, you watched The Psychic and
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: there's a lot of story structure there, and then he
- 1:39:39Speaker 3: reached a point in his career where he realized you
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: don't need as much structure in horror is more about images,
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: and it's about mood, and it's about atmosphere, and that's
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: why you get into four as great as Beyond the
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: or as the Gate the Gates of Hell trilogy is
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: it is very disjointed. There's very few like followable storylines
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: through it. It is kind of all over the place,
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: and it doesn't make much sense if you want to
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: break down and analyze it. But like, holy fuck, is
- 1:40:05Speaker 3: there not tons of moments that are so incredibly memorable
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: out of them?
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: It's like nightmare fuel. It's it. I don't know, it's
- 1:40:14Speaker 6: something so special about discovering those movies for the first time.
- 1:40:18Speaker 4: Let me ask you, guys a question. Whoever can answer
- 1:40:21Speaker 4: this if you have this situation like talking about these movies.
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: I feel like everybody at least has one Italian horror
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: film where they're the biggest advocate for it now, but
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: they hated it when they first saw it. They didn't
- 1:40:34Speaker 4: get it. That movie, for me, believe it or not.
- 1:40:37Speaker 4: Oh maybe it's not really hard to believe. Was Inferno.
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: I was like, this is the worst movie of all time.
- 1:40:42Speaker 4: I hate it's boring, and for some reason, I was
- 1:40:46Speaker 4: just like maybe one six to every six seven months,
- 1:40:48Speaker 4: I'm like, let me watch it again. Like if there's something.
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: But I just kept maybe it's that poster in that face.
- 1:40:54Speaker 4: It kept being like watch me, and I'd watch it
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: six seven months later, and like it becomes like an
- 1:40:59Speaker 4: old friend and it's not even just that Session nine
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: is a film. I was just like, this is the
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: most boring movie. I don't get it. What are people
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: saying about this movie? But I kept going back because
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: everybody's like, dude, just watch it again. I'd now I
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: like it because it's an old friend. It's somebody I
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: meet up with every now and again, and I catch
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: up with them. That's what that movie is to me.
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: But now I love Inferno. I'm just woning. Do you
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: have any movie like that where it's just like, this
- 1:41:25Speaker 4: ain't working, But then you go back somebody, You have
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: a conversation with somebody about it, and then you're like, fuck,
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: maybe I do need to rewatch that. Then it starts
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: to shift, and then you start to just like it
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: a lot.
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: Oh that's tough, I think.
- 1:41:38Speaker 7: Mine, and just because it's most recent to me, is
- 1:41:42Speaker 7: A Short Night of Class Dolls. I could not stand
- 1:41:44Speaker 7: that movie. I thought it was a snooze fest. The
- 1:41:47Speaker 7: first time I saw it, I thought it was ridiculous,
- 1:41:50Speaker 7: and I got to the point where I was getting
- 1:41:52Speaker 7: distracted and on my phone. I didn't know what was
- 1:41:54Speaker 7: going on.
- 1:41:55Speaker 8: I have to rewind it and stuff.
- 1:41:57Speaker 7: And the ending, I was, I, well, the guys seeing
- 1:42:01Speaker 7: you guys know the ending, I was like, what in
- 1:42:03Speaker 7: the what the hell's going on? And so I stopped,
- 1:42:08Speaker 7: and then I was sitting and I originally I was
- 1:42:10Speaker 7: gonna do a review on like, hey, look, I'm not
- 1:42:12Speaker 7: a fan, but let me give it another shot. Now
- 1:42:14Speaker 7: that in the ending and I know where this leads,
- 1:42:16Speaker 7: maybe it's something I can look forward to and kind
- 1:42:19Speaker 7: of catch things throughout the movie. And then my second watch,
- 1:42:22Speaker 7: I fell in love with it. I thought it was
- 1:42:23Speaker 7: an amazing movie. But that first time I couldn't stand it.
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: I remember struggling and I was peeking back at the
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: collection because I was trying to figure out if there
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: was any other I remember really struggling with deep Red,
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: like Sally. And you know, at that point, I had
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: already watched burd with the Crystal plumage, I'd already seen
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: Cat of Nine Tails, and I just endlessly heard about
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: Deep Red, and the first time I watched it, I
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: was like, oh, that's what everybody's talking about like I don't,
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: I don't get it. And then it was somebody I
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: was talking to because I had bought the Arrow, and
- 1:43:01Speaker 3: it was somebody I was talking two months later and
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: I was like, I was talking to him and I
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: was like, oh, yeah, yeah, I do remember it. So
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: I went back to it and I was like, Okay,
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: still not my favorite Argento, but like, I'm starting to
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: see it. And then I remember a couple of days
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: later thinking about the doll you.
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: Think about these movies. That's what kills me about these
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: damna type that they can't get them out of your head.
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought about it and I was like, oh,
- 1:43:26Speaker 3: let me rewatch that because I've been thinking about it.
- 1:43:28Speaker 3: And then I went back and it's still not a
- 1:43:29Speaker 3: movie that I say I love, but each time I
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: do like it more.
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: Agreed. I still don't think it's great, but in my opinion,
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: that is Goblin's finest musical body of work up. That's
- 1:43:42Speaker 4: that proof. That's that boom bum bum bum bum bum
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: bum bum. That is such a like when you go
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: to when we all die and eventually go to hell,
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: that's gonna be all that's gonna be our entrance music
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: like like, let's be real, like the Profondo rosso main
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: title thing that is my entry, that is such those
- 1:44:02Speaker 4: organs that play It's that. Suspiria is great, but Profondo
- 1:44:08Speaker 4: Rosso slash whatever title track where it's called. You gotta
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: listen to that. Just turn the lights out and listen
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: to it. It sounds like you just entered hell. It's
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: the best song they ever wrote.
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: It also too, I think the thing that people kind
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: of don't think about is as you venture out into
- 1:44:27Speaker 3: new territory. For people who discover Italian horror, you start
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: to look at other movies slightly different because your mind
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: is opening, Like you start watching this, there's times like, dude,
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: I've gone into crazy. Like I remember the first time
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: I watched Killer None, right, and I was like, oh,
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: I'm not a nun exploitation fan. I watched that and
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: there was like I'm not a nunsploitation fan. Three there
- 1:44:50Speaker 3: was like three movies I went back to that I
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: liked more because I had watched Killer None. And then
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: when I started getting into Italian horror, I kept going
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: back and watching movies I didn't like before and then
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: finding something in them, and I started just kind of
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: growing in that in that way.
- 1:45:05Speaker 5: And I mean even movies like Eyeball.
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: That's another one that's like super underrated eighty eight films
- 1:45:12Speaker 3: that are beautiful released for that I think. I think,
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: uh Torso is like a great slasher fan getting into
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: Italian horror Torso trailer. Yeah, yeah, dude, Torso is And
- 1:45:26Speaker 3: I'm sorry, You're rarely gonna find a meaner movie than Torso.
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: That movie is like a bully. It just never stops.
- 1:45:35Speaker 6: I like when I will say, like Umberto LENSI I
- 1:45:38Speaker 6: don't feel like it's enough love, Like that's one director
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: in the conversation that I mean, if you look at
- 1:45:43Speaker 6: like some of the films that he put out, I mean,
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: he has like a handful of bangers that I just
- 1:45:49Speaker 6: I feel like everyone's so quick to just go to
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: Dario Argento and Luccio Folcia as like some of the
- 1:45:54Speaker 6: better Italian directors. But I would argue, like, yeah, he
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: doesn't hit quite those same highs, but I still put
- 1:46:00Speaker 6: them in the conversation.
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's interesting, man, And it's one of those genres
- 1:46:05Speaker 3: that I feel like will be over, It'll be analyzed and.
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: Talked about over and over and over again. And I
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: love like.
- 1:46:13Speaker 3: This is one of the reasons I love physical media
- 1:46:15Speaker 3: because I love when they You take a movie that
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: nobody really knows about, you know, some hardcore fans due
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: and you get a deluxe release and a booklet and
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: it opens up to like I had never seen I
- 1:46:28Speaker 3: don't remember watching Short Night of Glass Dolls. I remember
- 1:46:30Speaker 3: I seen it at some point, and then I revisited
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: it with the new excuse me, with the new release,
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: and I was like, holy fuck, dude. I was like,
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: I really like this or Case of a Bloody Iris.
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: I mean, now we have labels that are their entire
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: thing is Italian horror, Like that's what they do. Eighty
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: eight Films has an Italian line like Gallos have that
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: now and now that we discover them, and dude, like
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: when think about like remember when Severn put out opera
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: the that was like the announcement man. People were waiting
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: and waiting and wait. Just like The Beyond. We kept
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: seeing Grindhouse Releasing putting out these theatrical four K posters and.
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: Everyone the tour.
- 1:47:10Speaker 5: Yeah, Everyone's like.
- 1:47:11Speaker 3: They're gonna do it, and then they started sneaking in
- 1:47:14Speaker 3: it into the newsletter, you know, wait for our announcement.
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: It became like an event man, or like seven doing
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: The Devil's Honey in four K, Like who the fuck
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: knew about the Devil's Honey? You know at that point,
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: like so few people. Man, it's it's we live in
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: a golden age of this stuff getting the golden treatment,
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: you know what I mean?
- 1:47:34Speaker 6: Can I drop two titles that took a while to
- 1:47:36Speaker 6: grow on me? One was Anthropophagus what just yeah, man,
- 1:47:40Speaker 6: I always prefer I always preferred absurd compared to that,
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: just because.
- 1:47:45Speaker 4: It that's fine, that's fine, that's fine our spectrum.
- 1:47:48Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, it was. It took it felt like it
- 1:47:51Speaker 6: was a very very extensive slow burn. But when you
- 1:47:55Speaker 6: get to the end, there's obviously the payoff, like you know,
- 1:47:58Speaker 6: the gut muncheon scene and all that. But that one
- 1:48:01Speaker 6: that took me a couple of views to really kind
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: of like grab on to that and just appreciate it
- 1:48:06Speaker 6: for what it is. And I would even argue, like
- 1:48:09Speaker 6: night Killer. I know I was joking about it earlier,
- 1:48:11Speaker 6: but there's like a weird charm to it that I
- 1:48:15Speaker 6: find myself coming back to it here and there, and
- 1:48:17Speaker 6: it's so like off the wall crazy. But that's why
- 1:48:21Speaker 6: I love it.
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: You mean Texas Shane saw Masac three is what your reference.
- 1:48:24Speaker 4: Of course, I wish I would have got that slipcover.
- 1:48:28Speaker 6: I wasn't fortunate enough to get that slipcover, but I
- 1:48:32Speaker 6: know you'd appreciate this, dude.
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: You could. You could buy a house with that slipcover. Yeah.
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: So I finally found out what happened with that. I
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: talked to the people at Severn. They saw that video.
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: I did a video a year ago or something. The
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: slipcover is what got him in trouble. Not not the
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: release of the film, but the slipcover got him in
- 1:48:55Speaker 4: big trouble, and then they lost their relationship with him.
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: And that's why Vinegar Syndrome put out dropped Dead Fred
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: and not Severn. Wow seven seven would drop the ball.
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: It's so interesting because now like now there's a like
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: we live in a world where there's.
- 1:49:15Speaker 5: A Cruel Jaws novelization.
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: I love it.
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: It's incredible, And that's in Csychlo Apocalypse pub as part
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: of their several Life But we also have a novelization
- 1:49:24Speaker 3: of Rats. So and it's like five D and thirty
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: six pages.
- 1:49:29Speaker 6: Talk about movies that take time to grow on you
- 1:49:33Speaker 6: get Rats for sure.
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: I'd be remiss if I just didn't say this because
- 1:49:36Speaker 4: I love talking about this man, because I love him,
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: Claudia Fragasso. I don't know if it's weird because he's
- 1:49:44Speaker 4: an Italian guy. But I don't know if what classifies
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: the movie as being Italian, if it's because of the
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: director or if it was filmed in Italy, I would
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: I would say more so because the guy that's doing
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: it is the director, is Italian. I want everybody, if
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: anybody here, Jordan g You, Chuck, I don't know, if
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: who hasn't seen or not, please please please watch Monster
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: Dog by Claudio Fragoso. If you haven't seen it. It
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: stars the great Alice Cooper. When he was going he
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: just he was just ending his contract with Warner Brothers
- 1:50:15Speaker 4: because his record sales had tapered off. He was bad,
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: bad off on drugs. He had just come out of rehab.
- 1:50:21Speaker 4: He agreed to do Monster Dog if the movie did
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: not come out in America because he was embarrassed to
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: do a smaller budgeted film. But the movie ended up
- 1:50:30Speaker 4: coming out anyway on VHY. You know, but the movie
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: is actually I think it's Claudio's best movie. He's done.
- 1:50:39Speaker 4: I think there are some really great moments that I
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: think Alice is really good in it, and he does.
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: Alice did two songs for the film. He did a
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: song in this movie called see Me in the Mirror.
- 1:50:52Speaker 4: And Alice is a rock star in the movie, so
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: he's you know, he's playing a movie and in the
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: movie they're shooting his music video for this song. And
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: it's like the music video is a part of the movie.
- 1:51:02Speaker 4: Go on YouTube and type in Alice Cooper see me there.
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: Listen to it. It is the utmost perfect Halloween party
- 1:51:10Speaker 4: playlist song. It is one of the creepiest groovoust songs
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: from Alice of all time. It never has been released physically.
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: It was never put on a record, never on the
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: Greatest It Actually it was put on one Greatest Hits,
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: but you can't find it on Spotify. Listen to that song.
- 1:51:25Speaker 4: It's amazing. But I love this movie with a passion.
- 1:51:28Speaker 4: I message Keno once a month from the remaster in
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: four K I want them to I really want an
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: audience to find this film. It has an audience. But
- 1:51:37Speaker 4: people only talk about troll Too. They talk about Claudia,
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: they talk about troll Too. This is his best movie
- 1:51:43Speaker 4: to me. I love Monster Dogs. If you guys ever
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: get the chance, check that movie out. It's on two
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: me and stuff, but the blu ray is not expensive.
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: But I think it's actually a good movie. I love it,
- 1:51:54Speaker 4: so Monster Dog I gotta and anybody listening, of course,
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: if you haven't seen it for me, watch Monster Dog.
- 1:52:00Speaker 6: That's a good recommendation.
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: Dude, that's a good one. We've had a lot of
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: good ones.
- 1:52:03Speaker 3: And I want to ask you guys before we before
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: we wrap up, Italian horror in Jello obviously has a
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: long influence right still to this day, what.
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: Let's say modern.
- 1:52:21Speaker 3: Post two thousand, heavy, shallow or Italian horror influenced films.
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: Could you recommend people who maybe aren't there yet to dive,
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: you know, back to what we've been covering, because for me,
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: I want to shout out Travis Stevens A Wounded Fawn,
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: which is it's a shutter film. It was one of
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: my favorite discoveries and it's very it's colorful. Well, first
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: of all, a shot on seventy millimeters, it looks fantastic,
- 1:52:52Speaker 3: very shallow influence in the coloring, in the style and
- 1:52:57Speaker 3: the direction, heavy heavy influence and I think that that's
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: a great modern day kind of feel out the style,
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: feel out the tone, get an idea. Clearly it's not dubbed,
- 1:53:10Speaker 3: but to me, that's a great one. And then I
- 1:53:12Speaker 3: also want to shout out the editor. If nobody's seen that,
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: the editor almost feels like a weird in spirit.
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: Evil Ed sequel. So that's another one too.
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: Did you say Evil Ed? I did, that is the
- 1:53:28Speaker 4: greatest movie of all time.
- 1:53:30Speaker 5: I did say Evil.
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: That is a masterpiece. That movie is so insane, it's unbelievable.
- 1:53:38Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's.
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: My pick if you're going to count that, because I'll
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: be honest with you post I'll be honest with you
- 1:53:45Speaker 4: post ninety four. Dude, I haven't watched a whole lot
- 1:53:50Speaker 4: of Italian anything. I mean, I saw Dark Glasses and
- 1:53:55Speaker 4: I wanted to just it was a standing ovation for
- 1:53:58Speaker 4: me because I think that nobody in a million years
- 1:54:01Speaker 4: thought o Argento could make a good movie again. And
- 1:54:04Speaker 4: I was like, I thought he pulled it off. And
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: if that's his last film he does, God bless him.
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: In my opinion, he that's a great movie to go
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: out on. But I don't know a whole lot you know, well.
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: What it doesn't even have to be an Italian film, Like,
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: is there any American film that you might know has
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: some of that jallo influence? You know, because give me
- 1:54:23Speaker 3: a second, it's Italian. I could do it time and
- 1:54:25Speaker 3: a Yallo. That's okay, Yeah, no, that's good. Yeah, that's good.
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: Let me, let me grab it.
- 1:54:31Speaker 5: Man.
- 1:54:31Speaker 3: I would pay ridiculous amounts of money to just go
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: look around Christian's movie room.
- 1:54:37Speaker 9: Okay, just have a sleepover, just hang out there.
- 1:54:40Speaker 4: This is a super deep cut. And the way this
- 1:54:45Speaker 4: happened was, Uh, my favorite movie is Return of Living
- 1:54:48Speaker 4: Dead and that's not that's not what this is about.
- 1:54:50Speaker 4: But my buddy Brandon showed me a he had a
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: DVD of a movie called Return of Living Dead Virus Bloodbath,
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: and I was like, what is So I went online
- 1:55:01Speaker 4: and I got this. This is a German DVD I
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: got off eba flight fifteen bucks plays perfectly fine in America.
- 1:55:07Speaker 4: This is what the dB looks like. It's and that's
- 1:55:10Speaker 4: actually artwork done by Graham Humphries, who did a lot
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: of the artwork for Return Living Dead's original art and stuff.
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: So what is this movie? This movie is called Virus Bloodbath.
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: No Bombshell Bloodbath. Excuse me, the name of the movie
- 1:55:23Speaker 4: is Bombshell Bloodbath. Came out in twenty twelve. I watched
- 1:55:27Speaker 4: this movie. I liked it. It's a zombie film that
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: has those dirty brown color palettes of the Beyond big Time.
- 1:55:36Speaker 4: So I was watching this movie and there's a scene
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: in like this dirty cave slash experimental medical room where
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: they got the zombie on a table. It looks like
- 1:55:49Speaker 4: a zombie straight out of Zombie, the Faulcy film. I
- 1:55:53Speaker 4: literally paused the movie. I go to the back, I
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: look for the director's name. I go to Facebook. I
- 1:56:00Speaker 4: go to look him up, and we were somehow friends
- 1:56:02Speaker 4: already on Facebook. Well, luckily enough, I messaged him and
- 1:56:05Speaker 4: he goes, oh, dude, I actually watch your channel, so
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: he was watching. It was so cool because the guy
- 1:56:10Speaker 4: was already aware of who I was, so he saw
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: my message. He got back to me. I said, listen, man,
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: I just bought your movie from Germany and it's called
- 1:56:19Speaker 4: Return of Living Dead. Blah blah blah. I said, can
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: you please send me a message or two about this
- 1:56:24Speaker 4: because I got to talk to the audience about this DVD.
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: So he sent me a message about this movie. Long
- 1:56:30Speaker 4: story short, The recommendation for the audio people is a
- 1:56:33Speaker 4: movie called Bombshell Bloodbath. It is a twenty twelve thirteen
- 1:56:38Speaker 4: zombie flick. To the director's credit, he says this heavily
- 1:56:45Speaker 4: inspired by Faulcy. The whole movie, visually, the look of
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: the zombies, everything is inspired by Faulcy. You can find
- 1:56:54Speaker 4: in America. The movie has not gotten any high definition
- 1:56:58Speaker 4: release yet, although he said he's in talk with it,
- 1:57:01Speaker 4: and I told him, if you make this happen, I
- 1:57:03Speaker 4: have to interview you. I want to do the audio
- 1:57:05Speaker 4: commentary with you for this movie. And he says he
- 1:57:07Speaker 4: would make that happen. So hopefully that does happen. But
- 1:57:10Speaker 4: for everybody listening, if you guys here are interested, go
- 1:57:12Speaker 4: on eBay and look this up. Just type in riturda
- 1:57:15Speaker 4: living dead virus Bloodbath. That's what this Germany German company
- 1:57:18Speaker 4: released this as plays completely region free, it'll play just
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: find your players. And it is called Bombshell Bloodbath. That's
- 1:57:24Speaker 4: the American name. But it is a good little zombie
- 1:57:26Speaker 4: flick that looks just like a Faulchy film.
- 1:57:30Speaker 3: God damn, so that is actually a really deep cut
- 1:57:33Speaker 3: right there.
- 1:57:34Speaker 4: Damn Holy I did a video in this. You check
- 1:57:38Speaker 4: the video out because I actually had the director send
- 1:57:41Speaker 4: me voice notes that I ripped from my phone and
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: put it in the video, so you'll actually hear the
- 1:57:47Speaker 4: director say I grew up love and Fault. He talks
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: about the movie and the video I did. I can
- 1:57:52Speaker 4: link it to if you want to watch it later.
- 1:57:53Speaker 4: But yeah, it was a great little accident because Brandon,
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: my buddy, just was deep diving eBay and found it
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: and then he showed it to me, and then I
- 1:58:02Speaker 4: watched it. He didn't at bastard didn't watch the movie yet.
- 1:58:05Speaker 4: I watched it, and I was telling him, like, so
- 1:58:07Speaker 4: you kind of watch it. It's a Faulcy film.
- 1:58:10Speaker 3: Yeah, for anybody who wants to know, there's a that
- 1:58:15Speaker 3: exact one. You're holding your hand twenty one dollars and
- 1:58:17Speaker 3: thirty four cents from the UK free shipping on.
- 1:58:20Speaker 4: There's a couple of there's a couple there's a darker
- 1:58:22Speaker 4: DVD cover too. There's a different variation.
- 1:58:25Speaker 3: There's a black cover with looks like a side profile
- 1:58:29Speaker 3: and then there's a zombie in its head.
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: Yes, I mean check that one out. That scene in
- 1:58:34Speaker 4: that bunker medical room with that zombie. It looks like
- 1:58:38Speaker 4: it came right out of a Faulcy film.
- 1:58:40Speaker 5: What's this one?
- 1:58:41Speaker 6: Oh?
- 1:58:41Speaker 3: Near my nuts? Herschel Gordon Lewis. I thought I found
- 1:58:44Speaker 3: another one. I was about to be like, look what
- 1:58:45Speaker 3: I found?
- 1:58:46Speaker 6: Not it, though, did did any of you guys see?
- 1:58:49Speaker 6: I know it's it's like I feel like that there
- 1:58:51Speaker 6: was some influence. But didn't you guys see Immaculate last year?
- 1:58:55Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:58:55Speaker 4: Yeah, no, I gotta see that.
- 1:58:58Speaker 6: That reminded me of like the Nuns. Yeah, man, that
- 1:59:01Speaker 6: that reminds me of like the Nun exploitation, like the
- 1:59:04Speaker 6: other hell type horror film. But two that I feel
- 1:59:08Speaker 6: like more recent ones are I don't know if you
- 1:59:11Speaker 6: guys have seen Knife plus Heart, I have that definitely
- 1:59:17Speaker 6: giallow influence. I know we're talking more about Italian horror,
- 1:59:20Speaker 6: but this is like one of the few examples of
- 1:59:22Speaker 6: something that I felt like was influenced by like uh
- 1:59:25Speaker 6: Baba or Argento. And then I'm sure you guys have
- 1:59:29Speaker 6: seen this one before. Oh yeah, like Malignant.
- 1:59:34Speaker 4: I was just thinking about that, Yeah, that movie.
- 1:59:36Speaker 8: I got rag.
- 1:59:38Speaker 4: That was when that came out. Man, I reviewed that
- 1:59:41Speaker 4: and I loved it. People like, are you an idiot? Oh?
- 1:59:45Speaker 6: Hell no? Like I love I love this movie. Like
- 1:59:49Speaker 6: you can you can tell there is so much Italian
- 1:59:51Speaker 6: influence on that, Like it's not even funny.
- 1:59:54Speaker 3: Yeah that, And I also think of a lot of
- 1:59:56Speaker 3: Tie West House of the Devil more technically with the
- 2:00:00Speaker 3: dollies or the zooms and stuff like that, Like the
- 2:00:04Speaker 3: House of the Devil. I mean, I think the most
- 2:00:06Speaker 3: apparent from him would be X you know, sure about
- 2:00:11Speaker 3: the Innkeepers.
- 2:00:12Speaker 4: I thought I was gonna hate that movie as I
- 2:00:15Speaker 4: was watching it, but it ended up winning me because
- 2:00:17Speaker 4: it's quirky, you know. So it ended up winning me
- 2:00:20Speaker 4: over because I like quirky.
- 2:00:22Speaker 6: Yeah, it wasn't wasn't that the that was his follow
- 2:00:25Speaker 6: up film to House to the Devil, right.
- 2:00:28Speaker 5: I believe it was, so.
- 2:00:30Speaker 4: I remember, I still thinks of the Devil is probably No,
- 2:00:33Speaker 4: that's not true. I love the Sacrament, but taking his
- 2:00:36Speaker 4: found footage side at the House Devils is still his
- 2:00:38Speaker 4: magnum opus. I think.
- 2:00:40Speaker 3: I think it's still hilarious looking back at it and
- 2:00:42Speaker 3: seeing Greta Gerwig getting her head blown off, you know,
- 2:00:46Speaker 3: and knowing she would go on to direct Barbie and
- 2:00:50Speaker 3: Lady Bird, and.
- 2:00:52Speaker 5: With that I was just quite Yeah.
- 2:00:58Speaker 8: Came right after Yeah, House to the Devil.
- 2:01:00Speaker 6: Okay, I remember I had higher expectations for that movie.
- 2:01:04Speaker 6: Not that it's bad by any means, but you're coming
- 2:01:06Speaker 6: off the high of the House of the Devil, and
- 2:01:09Speaker 6: then got that movie as the follow up. It just
- 2:01:11Speaker 6: was very differently paced compared to the first one.
- 2:01:16Speaker 3: I remember when I went on like a little bit
- 2:01:18Speaker 3: of a Tie West binge.
- 2:01:19Speaker 5: I bought House of the Devil.
- 2:01:22Speaker 3: I bought The Innkeepers, and then for some reason, because
- 2:01:25Speaker 3: I thought it was a Tie West movie, I bought
- 2:01:27Speaker 3: We Are Still Here.
- 2:01:29Speaker 4: That's a great movie.
- 2:01:32Speaker 3: That movie and Larry fastened in. Yep, it's a great movie.
- 2:01:36Speaker 3: But I remember like clicking play and I was like, whoa,
- 2:01:38Speaker 3: this is not.
- 2:01:38Speaker 4: The same Tie West. Yeah, dude, that is a I
- 2:01:43Speaker 4: bought that just because I kept seeing a damn thing
- 2:01:45Speaker 4: at f y eight years ago, and I just bought it.
- 2:01:47Speaker 4: I bought it to stop looking at it on a
- 2:01:50Speaker 4: shelf because it was like eight bucks. They just was
- 2:01:52Speaker 4: like somebody by, and I was like, oh, I'm fine.
- 2:01:54Speaker 4: I looked at the back and I saw Barbara Yeah.
- 2:01:57Speaker 4: And it was a quaint, fun little movie. Man, it was,
- 2:02:00Speaker 4: you know. I had something to say visually there was
- 2:02:01Speaker 4: some good stuff in it, but I just thought it
- 2:02:03Speaker 4: was man, those chill, little wintry, haunted house movies. Man
- 2:02:09Speaker 4: on the right day, that's the perfect kind of movie
- 2:02:12Speaker 4: for any you know, it just works. I love I
- 2:02:15Speaker 4: love that movie, and some people I wouldn't say, like, oh,
- 2:02:17Speaker 4: we need a nice release for that. Yeah, maybe so,
- 2:02:20Speaker 4: but also man, like you know what, I'm just glad
- 2:02:22Speaker 4: to have it. You know, I can watch it whenever
- 2:02:24Speaker 4: I want, you know, not, I don't think everything needs
- 2:02:26Speaker 4: like the how many discs can you do with the
- 2:02:30Speaker 4: We're Still Here? You know?
- 2:02:32Speaker 3: But it's I remember going back and rewatching it after
- 2:02:36Speaker 3: I watched Brooklyn forty five because that's the same director,
- 2:02:40Speaker 3: and I didn't like Brooklyn forty five as much, so
- 2:02:42Speaker 3: I went back and watched We Are Still Here, and
- 2:02:44Speaker 3: I was like, oh, this is fun anytime, honestly, bro
- 2:02:46Speaker 3: anytime anytime I see Larry Fast and then I'm pretty
- 2:02:49Speaker 3: into it, you know what I mean. I'm like, oh,
- 2:02:50Speaker 3: this guy's a nut guy.
- 2:02:52Speaker 4: Chris, really quick, have you watched your Reanimator yet? I have? Yeah,
- 2:02:59Speaker 4: you know, I won't even ask anymore because That's what
- 2:03:01Speaker 4: I'm doing tonight. After this and I'm dreading, dude, I'm
- 2:03:03Speaker 4: dreading reviewing that because everybody gave me ship because I
- 2:03:06Speaker 4: said I wasn't gonna get it, and they're like, what
- 2:03:08Speaker 4: do you mean, Chris, she we want you to review that.
- 2:03:10Speaker 4: Then I buy it, and I say I buy them.
- 2:03:12Speaker 4: My audience is like, what are you doing? Like just
- 2:03:14Speaker 4: wait for Arrow to do one. I'm like, oh my god,
- 2:03:17Speaker 4: now if I say it, I'm so afraid if I
- 2:03:20Speaker 4: review this thing. And I'm like, guys, I think this
- 2:03:22Speaker 4: was a really nice release. Boo boo, you're a sellout.
- 2:03:26Speaker 6: And I'm like, what are you?
- 2:03:27Speaker 4: I bought it, you know I didn't get it. I'm
- 2:03:30Speaker 4: nervous to do this video man, but I'm excited to
- 2:03:32Speaker 4: watch it tonight.
- 2:03:33Speaker 5: But yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 2:03:37Speaker 3: It looks fantastic, Like I don't so. I always thought
- 2:03:41Speaker 3: re Animator was shot super well, it's not the most
- 2:03:45Speaker 3: like it's.
- 2:03:45Speaker 5: Probably greeny, rightly, what's that?
- 2:03:48Speaker 4: It's probably grainy, huh because it's kind of like a.
- 2:03:52Speaker 3: No, I mean, it wasn't as the the new restoration
- 2:03:55Speaker 3: wasn't as greeny as I was that.
- 2:03:57Speaker 4: Arrow the Arrow release, Dude, you could it's got more
- 2:04:01Speaker 4: grain than a beach like like it's yeah, but I
- 2:04:04Speaker 4: don't mind that. I don't mind that, you know.
- 2:04:06Speaker 3: I remember, I remember there were two moments it really
- 2:04:08Speaker 3: stood out to me.
- 2:04:09Speaker 5: And one one, believe.
- 2:04:11Speaker 3: It or not, was the uh you know when h
- 2:04:15Speaker 3: when Doctor Hill is the head giving head scene.
- 2:04:18Speaker 5: I love it.
- 2:04:19Speaker 3: You know clearly, that was you know, that stood out.
- 2:04:21Speaker 3: But at the end in the morgue, when the smoke
- 2:04:24Speaker 3: gets released and it is all the mayhem going on
- 2:04:26Speaker 3: in the morgue fight, That's when it really stuck out
- 2:04:28Speaker 3: to me. How how much I thought the restoration was great.
- 2:04:32Speaker 3: I mean, honestly, I'm not the type of person to
- 2:04:34Speaker 3: It's why I don't do reviews in the typical sense
- 2:04:37Speaker 3: because a lot of times, like I'm perfectly good with
- 2:04:40Speaker 3: the Blu.
- 2:04:40Speaker 5: Ray, you know what I mean, I don't really.
- 2:04:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I get you.
- 2:04:44Speaker 8: You know.
- 2:04:44Speaker 4: The thing. The thing is, it's like that Arrow release,
- 2:04:48Speaker 4: which man, I get offers on that sucker a lot.
- 2:04:50Speaker 4: It's like this kind of fat white one.
- 2:04:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:04:53Speaker 3: I actually sold it to Frank before I when I
- 2:04:56Speaker 3: ordered this one.
- 2:04:57Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good release, man, It's you know, I
- 2:05:00Speaker 4: was before Arrow kind of nailed down the way they
- 2:05:02Speaker 4: packaged their stuff. They did some different stuff with that
- 2:05:05Speaker 4: one because that's an older one. But uh, I mean,
- 2:05:08Speaker 4: the thing is, it's just like it can only be
- 2:05:10Speaker 4: that much better from what that release was because it
- 2:05:13Speaker 4: release has done so well. But yeah, I just started
- 2:05:16Speaker 4: approaching reviews with like just like a bluntness, like here's
- 2:05:20Speaker 4: how it looks, this is what I think, this is
- 2:05:21Speaker 4: what I think about the last one. If you want
- 2:05:23Speaker 4: to buy it, cool, if not, I don't care, you know,
- 2:05:26Speaker 4: because it's the only way you can win. I learned, man,
- 2:05:29Speaker 4: that's the only way you can win. Now, just just
- 2:05:32Speaker 4: say what you gotta say. Don't try to sell people
- 2:05:35Speaker 4: on the crap one way or the other, because they're
- 2:05:37Speaker 4: gonna think you're they're gonna think less of you for it.
- 2:05:40Speaker 3: Well, everybody everybody wants. Everyone was shouting to the rooftops
- 2:05:45Speaker 3: for every animate or four K and then it's.
- 2:05:47Speaker 4: Not arrow and now they're all like what the fuck?
- 2:05:49Speaker 3: And yeah, yeah, and everybody everybody's going nuts, And then
- 2:05:52Speaker 3: you know, I was. I was surprised everybody else went
- 2:05:54Speaker 3: ignite films of all companies announced it because I was like, wow,
- 2:05:57Speaker 3: like what a get for them. So I was surprised
- 2:06:01Speaker 3: but at the end of the day, I mean, how
- 2:06:05Speaker 3: how critical can you be when this was approved by
- 2:06:07Speaker 3: Brian User.
- 2:06:08Speaker 4: And it's the closest thing you can get essentially to
- 2:06:11Speaker 4: Stewart at this point. So and who doesn't love Brian
- 2:06:13Speaker 4: you know, like that is exciting to me.
- 2:06:16Speaker 3: So yeah, I don't get it. But then this is
- 2:06:18Speaker 3: what I don't understand though, was like, you people want
- 2:06:20Speaker 3: this stuff so bad and then a company gives it
- 2:06:22Speaker 3: to you, and then all of a sudden, You're like,
- 2:06:24Speaker 3: because I watched your video this morning when you were
- 2:06:26Speaker 3: talking about that, how people were you know, messaging you?
- 2:06:30Speaker 3: And I was like, the response on my end of
- 2:06:35Speaker 3: which like I have probably half the following that you.
- 2:06:38Speaker 3: I have, what six thousand and so and the follow
- 2:06:40Speaker 3: the The response on my end was great, like people
- 2:06:45Speaker 3: were super happy about it, but people were like.
- 2:06:46Speaker 5: Who the hell are Ignite Films?
- 2:06:47Speaker 6: Right?
- 2:06:48Speaker 3: More of the question so we're all find out right now.
- 2:06:53Speaker 3: The question is and we talked about this on After Hours.
- 2:06:55Speaker 3: I have that arrow Bride of re Animator. Great release,
- 2:07:01Speaker 3: it's that dude, that green and black, it's it's it's
- 2:07:03Speaker 3: a stunning release. But that's my favorite Reanimator dude.
- 2:07:07Speaker 5: I saw I saw you say when I heard.
- 2:07:10Speaker 4: His money.
- 2:07:11Speaker 3: Anyway, But now the question is is there a high
- 2:07:15Speaker 3: chance that Ignite has Bride of Readare now that they
- 2:07:18Speaker 3: owned the first one?
- 2:07:19Speaker 4: You know, like these rights are up in the air
- 2:07:23Speaker 4: right now.
- 2:07:23Speaker 6: I tell you that.
- 2:07:23Speaker 4: Who if you'd have told me Cobro was coming out
- 2:07:25Speaker 4: from Arrow, I'd have been like, this is the way
- 2:07:27Speaker 4: screen Factory is letting that go? Oh man, you know
- 2:07:30Speaker 4: there's no way screen Factory is letting Texas chainsaw asker
- 2:07:33Speaker 4: to guy, Dude, you never know what's going on with
- 2:07:35Speaker 4: all this crap. But I can tell you this man
- 2:07:38Speaker 4: Cliff macmillan, when he told me he left Screen Factory
- 2:07:41Speaker 4: he was going to Arrow. I remember he told me,
- 2:07:43Speaker 4: and I'm not giving anything away, but I interviewed him
- 2:07:46Speaker 4: last year mm hmm, and he told me he goes
- 2:07:49Speaker 4: get ready. I was like, what do you mean he
- 2:07:51Speaker 4: goes things about to change, And I was like, he's like,
- 2:07:54Speaker 4: I'm I'm coming in hot, and I mean, look at
- 2:07:57Speaker 4: what he's done. So Jason hell Jason X. I mean,
- 2:08:04Speaker 4: it's pretty crazy. If you would have told me that
- 2:08:07Speaker 4: Arrow was gonna put out Friday the thirteenth films, Like
- 2:08:09Speaker 4: there's no chance in hell, you know. So, I mean, look,
- 2:08:12Speaker 4: you gotta start looking at that warning And I'm getting
- 2:08:15Speaker 4: totally off topic, but I'm just saying, you got to
- 2:08:17Speaker 4: start looking at that Warner Brother catalog. I mean, we
- 2:08:19Speaker 4: could be looking at Texas Shane Saw the Beginning, which
- 2:08:23Speaker 4: is my favorite coming out.
- 2:08:25Speaker 6: Three Oh. We were just talking about that.
- 2:08:27Speaker 4: We're starting looking at that catalog. Man, because Cliff McMillan,
- 2:08:31Speaker 4: he's he's got the briefcase of cash over apparently. And
- 2:08:35Speaker 4: you know, we'll probably see that ELM Street, probably Freddy
- 2:08:38Speaker 4: versus Jason. I mean, it's gonna be really interesting the
- 2:08:41Speaker 4: rest of the year.
- 2:08:42Speaker 3: Yeah, And I mean to loop it back to this topic.
- 2:08:46Speaker 3: They just announced Zombie.
- 2:08:49Speaker 4: And I pre ordered that some bitch faster than a.
- 2:08:52Speaker 4: I haven't pre ordered the other one yet, but you
- 2:08:54Speaker 4: know what, I wanted to get the Arrow Store exclusive.
- 2:08:58Speaker 4: I've ordered from Arrow a couple times. Dude, my shit
- 2:09:00Speaker 4: gets held up in customs really, so I just said.
- 2:09:04Speaker 5: Screw it.
- 2:09:05Speaker 4: I'm gonna do the purple one. That's my favorite caller anyway,
- 2:09:08Speaker 4: and I'm a tall today. Well listen, dude, I hope
- 2:09:11Speaker 4: it goes because listen, the Arrow Store exclusive is bad
- 2:09:14Speaker 4: to the bone. Yeah, you know, but I'm just like, ah.
- 2:09:18Speaker 6: Like, Christian, did you get the City of the Living
- 2:09:22Speaker 6: Dead and House by the Cemetery through Arrow or did
- 2:09:24Speaker 6: you just keep your Blue Underground ones?
- 2:09:26Speaker 4: So City of a Living Dead I gotta be honest,
- 2:09:29Speaker 4: Cauldron sent me there four K and that was a
- 2:09:33Speaker 4: year and some change ago before Arrow announced it, so
- 2:09:36Speaker 4: I stuck with that one. But I did order House
- 2:09:40Speaker 4: by the Cemetery from Arrow, not from Arrow's website though,
- 2:09:44Speaker 4: because I thought Arrow did a great job on those.
- 2:09:48Speaker 4: And honestly, I still kind of want the City of
- 2:09:51Speaker 4: a Living Dead one, just because you know, I mean,
- 2:09:53Speaker 4: it's faulty. But I did get Cemetery from them, and
- 2:09:57Speaker 4: I've been waiting for the to do Zombie because this
- 2:09:59Speaker 4: is great. Blue Underground is a movie like Zombie. I
- 2:10:04Speaker 4: need to be able to hold that release with two hands,
- 2:10:07Speaker 4: like I want a big Zombie, you know. So I
- 2:10:10Speaker 4: was waited with baiting breath for years for Arrow to
- 2:10:14Speaker 4: do Zombie and I can't wait for that.
- 2:10:17Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:10:17Speaker 6: Can I ask you guys if you guys could pick
- 2:10:20Speaker 6: out like maybe like a couple of titles or one
- 2:10:23Speaker 6: title or whatever. They got the four K treatment from
- 2:10:26Speaker 6: like Italian Horror. Is there any releases that you guys
- 2:10:28Speaker 6: would want to see get that, like a boutique treatment.
- 2:10:33Speaker 3: I mean, I feel like a lot of people are
- 2:10:36Speaker 3: discovering a lot already thanks to a boutique treatment.
- 2:10:38Speaker 5: I mean there's levels to boutique treatment.
- 2:10:40Speaker 3: Like I would love to see a deluxe edition of
- 2:10:43Speaker 3: Doctor Butcher MD, you know what I mean. Like I
- 2:10:46Speaker 3: would love like a booklet and all that cool stuff
- 2:10:48Speaker 3: with Doctor Butcher, but that already has a great sever
- 2:10:51Speaker 3: and release. I think at this point we're just missing
- 2:10:55Speaker 3: these little essentials like Inferno, you know. I mean, even
- 2:11:00Speaker 3: some of the nineties are gentle stuff is kind of
- 2:11:03Speaker 3: lost in time, Dracula, Phantom of the Opera, The Card
- 2:11:07Speaker 3: Player was a Keynote release, but that's kind of gone,
- 2:11:11Speaker 3: you know, stuff like that. There's a lot of Italian
- 2:11:14Speaker 3: hard Like we're all looking forward to Black Belly of.
- 2:11:16Speaker 5: The Chancela from some games.
- 2:11:19Speaker 6: You know that's there.
- 2:11:20Speaker 5: For me, there's not a lot.
- 2:11:23Speaker 3: I mean, like I feel like I always want to
- 2:11:26Speaker 3: wish for more, Like what I love an arrow thick
- 2:11:28Speaker 3: box for Cannibal Holocaust.
- 2:11:29Speaker 5: Fuck, Yeah, like I would love that, you know what
- 2:11:31Speaker 5: I mean.
- 2:11:32Speaker 6: But like Cannibal Fax.
- 2:11:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll get I'll get a kind of with the socks,
- 2:11:38Speaker 4: the draws, the hat. You know, I'm gonna I'm telling you,
- 2:11:42Speaker 4: I'm going on that website soon and I'm just gonna
- 2:11:44Speaker 4: see what they got in a Cannibal Fairox department.
- 2:11:47Speaker 3: God, I swear, yeah, there's I mean, I don't know, man,
- 2:11:51Speaker 3: I feel like there's always and I always say too
- 2:11:54Speaker 3: when certain things can announce I'm like, yeah, I'm not
- 2:11:56Speaker 3: gonna upgrade that.
- 2:11:57Speaker 5: And then you start thinking about it.
- 2:11:59Speaker 6: They suck with the Godfather, Man, pull you back in.
- 2:12:02Speaker 4: You know. It's dude, I was talking about this last night.
- 2:12:04Speaker 4: It's just like you know, with Jaws getting this new
- 2:12:09Speaker 4: steal book and this fiftieth and other thing. It's like
- 2:12:12Speaker 4: it's it's I get that feeling, which you just said that,
- 2:12:16Speaker 4: oh God. But it's like I keep telling myself, man,
- 2:12:19Speaker 4: I don't know what it is when there's an announcement
- 2:12:21Speaker 4: for a movie I love, and it's kind of like
- 2:12:24Speaker 4: when that new movie's coming out. I always tell people
- 2:12:27Speaker 4: when Halloween Ends was coming out and I was doing
- 2:12:30Speaker 4: podcasts about with my buddy neck and everything, I would
- 2:12:33Speaker 4: always say, this time right now before the movie comes
- 2:12:37Speaker 4: out and everybody's got this anticipation and everybody's waiting to
- 2:12:41Speaker 4: see it. This feeling we have right now will always
- 2:12:44Speaker 4: far exceed any emotion you have of after seeing the film.
- 2:12:48Speaker 4: And then once it's done, that feeling of anticipation and
- 2:12:52Speaker 4: the excitement and talk about it's gone and whenever. Like
- 2:12:57Speaker 4: I keep telling you, what if this is the last
- 2:12:59Speaker 4: time Jaws ever gets any sort of physical media release,
- 2:13:03Speaker 4: And I could be facetious, it may it may be
- 2:13:05Speaker 4: untrueable what if it is? And I'm just like, you
- 2:13:08Speaker 4: know what, I'm gonna enjoy it one way.
- 2:13:10Speaker 6: It's Jaws.
- 2:13:12Speaker 4: It's jogging popcorn buckets coming up. It's like and listen like,
- 2:13:17Speaker 4: it's not, it's not. This is what I've learned. I
- 2:13:20Speaker 4: never have to try to feel like I have to
- 2:13:23Speaker 4: make other people want to buy it too, because I'm
- 2:13:25Speaker 4: gonna get it. I don't care, you know, Like, what
- 2:13:28Speaker 4: why on earth would I try to tell people, well,
- 2:13:29Speaker 4: you have to buy the new Jaws still book. That
- 2:13:32Speaker 4: last one you have is pointless. It's worthless now, of
- 2:13:35Speaker 4: course not. But dude, I just I enjoy the journey,
- 2:13:39Speaker 4: as stupid as that sounds, because after it's gone. Man,
- 2:13:44Speaker 4: it's over, you know so well.
- 2:13:47Speaker 5: I mean, it happens so quick and we get so much.
- 2:13:49Speaker 3: And this is one of the things that I we
- 2:13:54Speaker 3: I mean, we're getting announcements now for months away, you
- 2:13:57Speaker 3: know what I mean. You're getting you know, like five
- 2:13:59Speaker 3: months from now with the Hell's coming out, and then
- 2:14:00Speaker 3: you're anticipating. It's kind of like to me, it's kind
- 2:14:03Speaker 3: of like that idea where they say, like people work
- 2:14:05Speaker 3: five days a weeks that are always looking forward to
- 2:14:07Speaker 3: the weekend and you miss all that time in between.
- 2:14:10Speaker 3: I feel like it's so often we get you know,
- 2:14:12Speaker 3: like Reanimator right now is in the spotlight, and then
- 2:14:15Speaker 3: in a week and a half, something else is gonna
- 2:14:17Speaker 3: come along, and it's gonna box set. It's gonna get
- 2:14:20Speaker 3: pushed away, you know what I mean, something else. I know,
- 2:14:24Speaker 3: I know, something else is gonna is gonna take its place.
- 2:14:27Speaker 3: And this is why, like I'm such a fan of
- 2:14:29Speaker 3: and I feel like that's why I went from YouTube
- 2:14:33Speaker 3: to podcasting because I wanted to. There's so much more
- 2:14:38Speaker 3: to getting a release and just putting in and watching
- 2:14:40Speaker 3: the movie. If you love the movie, you know, check
- 2:14:43Speaker 3: out the commentaries, watch behind the scenes, read the booklet,
- 2:14:46Speaker 3: like get into the movie and and learn because the
- 2:14:49Speaker 3: amount of times that those first of all work goes
- 2:14:53Speaker 3: into those so people need to appreciate it.
- 2:14:55Speaker 5: You know.
- 2:14:56Speaker 3: There's just as much work goes into essays and write
- 2:14:58Speaker 3: ups and all that stuff. And for us having a podcast,
- 2:15:04Speaker 3: that's where everything we do is based on audio commentaries.
- 2:15:11Speaker 3: You know, the goal of our show is not to
- 2:15:14Speaker 3: not just to educate and have interesting conversation, but kind
- 2:15:18Speaker 3: of get people to go, oh, you know, I've never
- 2:15:19Speaker 3: listened to an audio commentary before. Let me go check
- 2:15:21Speaker 3: that out and learn about the behind the scenes and
- 2:15:25Speaker 3: learn about literally whatever else.
- 2:15:26Speaker 5: I mean.
- 2:15:27Speaker 3: GC just called me bearded booklet guy in the in
- 2:15:30Speaker 3: the chat man, I love that shit. So for me,
- 2:15:36Speaker 3: when I get a release, it lives on for a
- 2:15:37Speaker 3: long time because I keep going back to it and
- 2:15:39Speaker 3: I dive in and I read this and I watch that.
- 2:15:41Speaker 3: I mean, there's some movies I've watched four or five
- 2:15:43Speaker 3: times to watch just to listen to four different audio commentaries.
- 2:15:47Speaker 6: But then it's it's a deeper appreciation for the film,
- 2:15:51Speaker 6: not just oh, it looks nice on the shelf, which
- 2:15:53Speaker 6: I think we can all appreciate it. To a certain extent,
- 2:15:56Speaker 6: but I think it should go past that. Don't gloss
- 2:15:58Speaker 6: over it, because we do spend a lot of time
- 2:16:00Speaker 6: anticipating that movie coming out. Presentation's nice, but it's it's
- 2:16:04Speaker 6: the content that's most important.
- 2:16:06Speaker 3: Well, it blows my mind. I mean, could you imagine,
- 2:16:09Speaker 3: you know, being having a boutique label getting the rights
- 2:16:12Speaker 3: to a movie. You went a bidding war, whatever the
- 2:16:15Speaker 3: case is, right, you you're seeking out interviews, you're making
- 2:16:19Speaker 3: a documentary, you hire writers to do a booklet, You
- 2:16:23Speaker 3: get this great artist, and then you got some guy
- 2:16:26Speaker 3: on YouTube going, yeah, this shit sucks. I put it
- 2:16:29Speaker 3: in my I put it in my my thirty and
- 2:16:33Speaker 3: TV on my PlayStation three and uh and there's a
- 2:16:36Speaker 3: pixel that that goes crazy and in frame thirty four.
- 2:16:40Speaker 5: You know what I mean, You're like, what the fuck? You?
- 2:16:43Speaker 6: You know? Can can? I know it's not Italian horror,
- 2:16:46Speaker 6: but weirdly enough, there was I felt like the anticipation
- 2:16:51Speaker 6: for films that, like, I mean, I appreciate him, like Jaws,
- 2:16:54Speaker 6: Jaw's three and Jaws four last summer. I don't know why,
- 2:16:58Speaker 6: like the anticipation for that, and like I know that
- 2:17:00Speaker 6: there was a lot of controversy I think was behind
- 2:17:03Speaker 6: Jaws three, but man like I just had, like, I think,
- 2:17:07Speaker 6: a deeper appreciation just for the film. I mean it's
- 2:17:09Speaker 6: not anything like top tier, but I don't know, just
- 2:17:14Speaker 6: to see film. I never had a million years thought
- 2:17:16Speaker 6: that that would actually get you know, quite a bit
- 2:17:18Speaker 6: of like restoration war put into it and you know,
- 2:17:22Speaker 6: standard release steal book that came with it. So I
- 2:17:25Speaker 6: don't know, like whatever, If you enjoy the film, that's
- 2:17:27Speaker 6: all matters.
- 2:17:28Speaker 3: Anytime I talk to people who were like I want to,
- 2:17:32Speaker 3: you know, watch this thing, but I don't want to
- 2:17:34Speaker 3: take the chance on it, I send them to Christian's
- 2:17:36Speaker 3: video for Peanut Butter Solution.
- 2:17:42Speaker 5: And here's my favorite thing, right.
- 2:17:44Speaker 4: That's my favorite video I've ever done.
- 2:17:46Speaker 3: I post a picture about twenty twenty texts gladiators, and
- 2:17:50Speaker 3: then Christian comments, and then X amount of time later
- 2:17:53Speaker 3: here comes a video where he watches it, you know,
- 2:17:55Speaker 3: this great Joe Tomato film, and slowly in this eight
- 2:17:59Speaker 3: minute review he I'm watching this man lose his mind,
- 2:18:04Speaker 3: and then I it brought me back.
- 2:18:05Speaker 5: It was like PTSD.
- 2:18:06Speaker 3: I'm thinking of the Peanut Butter Solution video and it's
- 2:18:09Speaker 3: just like but for as crazy as those are.
- 2:18:14Speaker 5: You know what I mean.
- 2:18:16Speaker 3: To be able to like, I'm so thankful that you
- 2:18:19Speaker 3: took the risk and watch those so I could get
- 2:18:21Speaker 3: your content.
- 2:18:23Speaker 4: Dude. Let me tell you, that's when I figured out
- 2:18:26Speaker 4: how to do YouTube, because I was like, dude, just
- 2:18:29Speaker 4: have fun and those conversations you would have with your
- 2:18:31Speaker 4: buddies that would entertain each other so much, bring that
- 2:18:36Speaker 4: to your channel. Yeah, Like, there are people that are
- 2:18:38Speaker 4: gonna be so much better at talking than me and
- 2:18:41Speaker 4: explaining stuff than me. I'm just gonna I want to
- 2:18:44Speaker 4: just be silly and be myself and have fun. And
- 2:18:46Speaker 4: I have never had more fun in my life than
- 2:18:49Speaker 4: doing that Texas tex Texas Gladiators video or that Peanut
- 2:18:52Speaker 4: Butter Solution video. That's what it's all about, man, And
- 2:18:56Speaker 4: I mean that was a shoot. If anybody here's a
- 2:18:59Speaker 4: wrestling fan, that means like that was my reaction to
- 2:19:01Speaker 4: Peanut Butter Solution was dead, Like, I have never seen
- 2:19:05Speaker 4: a movie that bizarre in my life. And then when
- 2:19:07Speaker 4: you think it can't get crazier, Selene Dion starts singing
- 2:19:10Speaker 4: in the movie. I guess, yeah, but but but that's
- 2:19:15Speaker 4: seven series. And then I did Extraterrestrial visitors and that
- 2:19:18Speaker 4: one was pretty fucking weird too. You know, I love them.
- 2:19:23Speaker 5: Watching your videos though.
- 2:19:24Speaker 3: Those reviews in itself are like, uh, are like Alice,
- 2:19:28Speaker 3: you know, spinning down the rabbit hole man, cause you
- 2:19:31Speaker 3: just get more and more. It gets crazier and crazier,
- 2:19:35Speaker 3: and it's almost like your reaction them are crazier than
- 2:19:37Speaker 3: the movies itself. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, the reaction to
- 2:19:41Speaker 3: those videos were I remember going right to your comment
- 2:19:43Speaker 3: section and I was like, what's happening down here?
- 2:19:45Speaker 4: And those were equally The comments are great, dude, and
- 2:19:49Speaker 4: the audience get they they get it too. They know
- 2:19:51Speaker 4: that like okay, like I'm overreacting a little bit, but
- 2:19:55Speaker 4: at the same time, like, no, these movies really don't
- 2:19:57Speaker 4: make any sense. So seven Severn has the most schizophrenic
- 2:20:01Speaker 4: catalog of all time. Oh like they there's just schizophrenic,
- 2:20:06Speaker 4: like insane movies that make no sense. I love Severn.
- 2:20:10Speaker 4: I don't know if those guys have seen those videos
- 2:20:12Speaker 4: I've done. Maybe they might have, but I'd look when
- 2:20:16Speaker 4: any and when anybody recommends me a Severn title and like, dude,
- 2:20:19Speaker 4: if you saw this, you need to watch this. I
- 2:20:22Speaker 4: instantly buy it, instantly, I go online and buy it
- 2:20:25Speaker 4: because I'm like, if it really is that crazy, I
- 2:20:27Speaker 4: can't wait to do a video on it.
- 2:20:29Speaker 3: I am so excited for their Cliff temlow Boxe, like,
- 2:20:32Speaker 3: I can't wait to get into that that they're putting.
- 2:20:34Speaker 4: Well.
- 2:20:35Speaker 8: Then they then they put out movies like Overboard.
- 2:20:37Speaker 6: Oh.
- 2:20:37Speaker 4: I did a video on that too, and I was like,
- 2:20:39Speaker 4: you know what, that's the craziest crazies those movies are.
- 2:20:41Speaker 6: It's crazy.
- 2:20:42Speaker 4: Did they have Overboard?
- 2:20:44Speaker 2: Like?
- 2:20:44Speaker 4: Why did they have overpart.
- 2:20:47Speaker 3: I we have a group chat and I was like,
- 2:20:49Speaker 3: I was like, I posted the Vinegar Syndrome announcements for
- 2:20:52Speaker 3: Golden Child and Dirty Work, and I was like, oh,
- 2:20:55Speaker 3: I was like, Vinegar Central was my favorite comedy label
- 2:20:57Speaker 3: out on the scene and uh Jordan's Jordan's like, didn't
- 2:21:01Speaker 3: seven put out Overboard?
- 2:21:03Speaker 5: I was like, shut the fuck up, dude, No, man,
- 2:21:11Speaker 5: but no, seriously, dude, this.
- 2:21:14Speaker 3: This has been an all over the place episode two
- 2:21:17Speaker 3: hours and twenty minutes in. Could probably go for another
- 2:21:19Speaker 3: two hours, but at some point we have to we
- 2:21:22Speaker 3: have to, you know, have some self control here, dude.
- 2:21:27Speaker 5: Great Top five Steve, what are your birthday plans? Man?
- 2:21:30Speaker 5: What are you doing?
- 2:21:31Speaker 4: Tomorrow he's watching the Top five.
- 2:21:33Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yep, I'm going on do not serve.
- 2:21:38Speaker 5: You got any plan.
- 2:21:41Speaker 6: No, honestly, just keeping a low key honestly, it just
- 2:21:44Speaker 6: uh works throughout the week is pretty crazy. So just
- 2:21:47Speaker 6: get one day where I'm like not really doing anything,
- 2:21:49Speaker 6: get caught up on some movies. That's all I can
- 2:21:51Speaker 6: ask for.
- 2:21:52Speaker 5: Yeah, hell yeah man. And this excellent podcast we put
- 2:21:55Speaker 5: you through.
- 2:21:56Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a lot of.
- 2:21:57Speaker 3: Fun, great Top five list, great discussion from everyone.
- 2:22:04Speaker 5: We have a lot of big.
- 2:22:08Speaker 3: Stuff coming up, you know with the podcast that I
- 2:22:12Speaker 3: technically can't like officially announce Ye, probably within the next
- 2:22:17Speaker 3: day or so, once we get everything properly finalized. But
- 2:22:20Speaker 3: we're only a couple weeks away from doing our episode
- 2:22:22Speaker 3: on the Burning with Mark from Tales from the Shelf.
- 2:22:26Speaker 3: We're gonna be doing covering the audio commentary with director
- 2:22:28Speaker 3: Tony Mayleem and then also Christian you're gonna be back
- 2:22:31Speaker 3: on in June with Garrett from Born to Be rad
- 2:22:36Speaker 3: As we talk about the evolution of campground slashers, which
- 2:22:39Speaker 3: that's gonna be a ton of fun. And then that's
- 2:22:42Speaker 3: technically the end of season one. And then we're back
- 2:22:45Speaker 3: and I think this is the first time we're really
- 2:22:47Speaker 3: saying it. Our first episode of season two, we're fucking
- 2:22:50Speaker 3: doing Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 2:22:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we are, yeah, which.
- 2:22:55Speaker 5: Is fucking awesome, man.
- 2:22:56Speaker 3: So I can't thank anybody listening enough for, you know,
- 2:23:02Speaker 3: the support the news that we have. Genuinely, when I
- 2:23:07Speaker 3: when I got this message it, I had never felt
- 2:23:12Speaker 3: more proud to be a part of anything ever in
- 2:23:16Speaker 3: my life. So to to now, you know, be to
- 2:23:20Speaker 3: the point where we're going to be announcing it and
- 2:23:22Speaker 3: going to be talking about it, it makes me like, literally,
- 2:23:26Speaker 3: I was at work earlier and I just had like,
- 2:23:29Speaker 3: it feels so good to put so much work into
- 2:23:33Speaker 3: something and actually kind of feel it and watch it
- 2:23:37Speaker 3: grow to that next level. I mean, there was there's
- 2:23:41Speaker 3: been so much cool stuff, man, Like the fact that
- 2:23:43Speaker 3: we put out our season two lists and we filled
- 2:23:45Speaker 3: all the guest spots pretty instantly was incredible. I've had
- 2:23:51Speaker 3: people that I followed in this industry, writers, uh, special future, producers,
- 2:23:57Speaker 3: all kinds of people reach out and talk about how
- 2:23:59Speaker 3: much they appreciate the show. Obviously, like you know, every
- 2:24:03Speaker 3: episode is a different movie, so we appeal to a
- 2:24:05Speaker 3: different crowd kind of with every episode. But I'm just
- 2:24:10Speaker 3: super proud of it, and I can't thank anybody who
- 2:24:12Speaker 3: gives the show even a five minute listen, and as
- 2:24:16Speaker 3: you know, for tuning in, especially in this platform where
- 2:24:19Speaker 3: there's so many podcasts and so many people doing so
- 2:24:22Speaker 3: many things. So we're just getting started and there's a
- 2:24:26Speaker 3: lot coming down the pipeline and I can't thank you
- 2:24:29Speaker 3: guys enough for coming on, celebrating Steve's birthday.
- 2:24:32Speaker 6: Thank you guys.
- 2:24:35Speaker 3: So where can people I'm just gonna start in my
- 2:24:38Speaker 3: order here of what I can see. Chuck, where can
- 2:24:41Speaker 3: people find you on on social?
- 2:24:43Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 2:24:43Speaker 2: So you can find me on Instagram at Chuck Underscore
- 2:24:46Speaker 2: Savage where.
- 2:24:47Speaker 5: You're still trying to post more.
- 2:24:50Speaker 6: Yeah, he's getting the.
- 2:24:55Speaker 5: Jordan. What about you, man? Where can people find you?
- 2:24:57Speaker 7: H Yeah, I'm over on Instagram mainly at the Underscore
- 2:25:03Speaker 7: movie Underscore Den Underscore because someone.
- 2:25:05Speaker 8: Took that early on.
- 2:25:07Speaker 7: But that doing YouTube, I try to do five fitties
- 2:25:12Speaker 7: a week doesn't always work out.
- 2:25:14Speaker 8: And then I'm I'm I'm dabbling. I'm dabbling in Twitter.
- 2:25:17Speaker 5: Okay, so we'll see you seem let's go dabbling in Twitter.
- 2:25:21Speaker 5: In twenty twenty.
- 2:25:21Speaker 4: Five, Strangely, I understand what he means by that too,
- 2:25:27Speaker 4: and I was I think it was I was talking
- 2:25:29Speaker 4: with uh with Steven.
- 2:25:30Speaker 8: It's just it's another thing to add on that.
- 2:25:32Speaker 7: I just gotta gotta post here, make a post for this,
- 2:25:35Speaker 7: make a post for another social media side.
- 2:25:37Speaker 8: Make a post.
- 2:25:37Speaker 4: And it's just, oh, so I have to That's what
- 2:25:40Speaker 4: I'm saying.
- 2:25:40Speaker 8: I have with it right now.
- 2:25:43Speaker 6: I have to run this stuff. And then I also
- 2:25:46Speaker 6: I have to do all my stuff for real estate. Dude.
- 2:25:48Speaker 6: Sometimes by the end of the day, I'm like, man,
- 2:25:50Speaker 6: I can't look at my phone anymore. I don't want
- 2:25:52Speaker 6: to look at another screen. I'm like tapped out.
- 2:25:54Speaker 3: My favorite thing about following Steve's work account and his
- 2:25:58Speaker 3: movie account is that they both have the same background,
- 2:26:02Speaker 3: and every now and then it'll pop up and I'm like, yes,
- 2:26:04Speaker 3: he's in front of the movie shelf. We're gonna talk
- 2:26:06Speaker 3: about some horror movies like click audio on and he's
- 2:26:09Speaker 3: talking about five steps to sell your house in this market.
- 2:26:14Speaker 6: But Chris, it gets to engage you're watching, you know,
- 2:26:18Speaker 6: that's all that matters.
- 2:26:19Speaker 7: He just has to put the chains away, tuck him
- 2:26:20Speaker 7: in his shirt, and he's good.
- 2:26:21Speaker 6: To go I do. I'm like, I can't. I can't
- 2:26:24Speaker 6: be having any of this stuff.
- 2:26:26Speaker 5: GC. What about you?
- 2:26:27Speaker 4: Man?
- 2:26:27Speaker 5: Where can people find you at?
- 2:26:29Speaker 9: Mainly man on Instagram and YouTube at Face the Movies.
- 2:26:34Speaker 9: And then I do have a podcast obviously not as
- 2:26:37Speaker 9: cool as yours, but that but it's We've just launched
- 2:26:42Speaker 9: our first episode for season two talking about the Heretic
- 2:26:45Speaker 9: and for that one is Friday Night, Fright Night. We're
- 2:26:49Speaker 9: on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
- 2:26:51Speaker 5: Which that first episode was excellent.
- 2:26:53Speaker 6: Okay, it was really good. Thank you guys so much.
- 2:26:56Speaker 9: Man, like I that, like I so I got into
- 2:27:00Speaker 9: spiration from your podcast as far as for just kind
- 2:27:04Speaker 9: of try to keep it like flowing and talking about
- 2:27:07Speaker 9: a specific movie. And man, It's Heretic was one that
- 2:27:12Speaker 9: just I had to talk about because it's i mean
- 2:27:16Speaker 9: just all the hidden stuff that a lot of people
- 2:27:18Speaker 9: didn't catch on it and just comparing it to other
- 2:27:21Speaker 9: films that had like similar, similar notions. It was just
- 2:27:25Speaker 9: it was such a fun talk.
- 2:27:27Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, no, it's it's great.
- 2:27:29Speaker 4: Man.
- 2:27:29Speaker 3: Don't don't discredit yourself, man, give yourself credit where credit
- 2:27:32Speaker 3: is due.
- 2:27:33Speaker 6: Yeah, Man, doing great things.
- 2:27:36Speaker 4: You're you're channeling Face movie sounded so familiar to me.
- 2:27:39Speaker 4: I don't remember where I'd seen it before, but I
- 2:27:41Speaker 4: just went to your channel. I was subscribed to it.
- 2:27:44Speaker 4: Do you have like a thirty thousand dollars camera or something?
- 2:27:48Speaker 4: I mean, Jesus Christ, this looks like a dark Side
- 2:27:51Speaker 4: of the Ring documentary. Dude, I have a look at that. Yeah,
- 2:27:58Speaker 4: oh my god, Like you made me feel like a chump.
- 2:28:02Speaker 6: What no, dude, I have you know? You know, it's funny.
- 2:28:06Speaker 6: A lot of the settings.
- 2:28:07Speaker 9: I have to give credit to Jordan and to Brian
- 2:28:11Speaker 9: because when I first started my channel, I mean there
- 2:28:14Speaker 9: were some of the first people that I was kind
- 2:28:16Speaker 9: of watching their stuff, and I mean I was asking
- 2:28:19Speaker 9: them questions left and right, and I'm using a Sony
- 2:28:22Speaker 9: eight seventy four and I'm using a fifty millimeter lens,
- 2:28:26Speaker 9: and it was just really kind of trying to get
- 2:28:27Speaker 9: the lighting right and messing with it. But it's meaning
- 2:28:30Speaker 9: the lighting, man, that makes a difference. I mean it
- 2:28:33Speaker 9: really does.
- 2:28:34Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right. Yeah, I'm just that is impressive. Man,
- 2:28:38Speaker 4: That's really I appreciate it.
- 2:28:39Speaker 3: Man, Steve Man, where can people find you at?
- 2:28:44Speaker 6: You can find me everywhere at after Hours Video. I'm
- 2:28:48Speaker 6: on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, you name it.
- 2:28:52Speaker 3: Sweet Man, and then Christian. I doubt you need much
- 2:28:55Speaker 3: of a much of a plug, but.
- 2:28:57Speaker 4: No, I'll take any plug I can't get it. Yeah,
- 2:29:01Speaker 4: Planet ch that's where you could find me on YouTube, Instagram.
- 2:29:04Speaker 4: That's pretty much and if I can be a salesman.
- 2:29:07Speaker 4: If anybody listened to this, every wants their house to
- 2:29:10Speaker 4: smell good and they are into candles and wax melts.
- 2:29:14Speaker 4: Me and my wife have a small business called You
- 2:29:15Speaker 4: Need a Candles. Please follow us on Instagram. We have
- 2:29:19Speaker 4: launches every basically every week in week and a half.
- 2:29:23Speaker 4: We just did a big summer slasher line today with
- 2:29:29Speaker 4: the burning melts. We had melts for one of my
- 2:29:31Speaker 4: favorite movies, to Town that Dreaded Sundown, and we did
- 2:29:34Speaker 4: one for Mote Hell And they all have these great
- 2:29:37Speaker 4: summer scents, these outdoor scents. They smell so great. We
- 2:29:40Speaker 4: have limited edition candles we do, and all of our
- 2:29:43Speaker 4: stuff lasts so much longer than anything you'll buy at Walmart.
- 2:29:48Speaker 4: We make everything in house, package everything in house. It's
- 2:29:52Speaker 4: a grassroots little company we started, So please check us
- 2:29:56Speaker 4: out there and give us a shot. I anybody that
- 2:29:58Speaker 4: tries us I've never had a customers say it wasn't
- 2:30:01Speaker 4: worth it. So if give us a shot. If you're
- 2:30:03Speaker 4: listening to this, go to you need to Candles. We
- 2:30:05Speaker 4: have an Etsy page where we sell everything.
- 2:30:07Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, and.
- 2:30:08Speaker 4: On Instagram follow out just look up you need to
- 2:30:10Speaker 4: Candles on Instagram. Well that's why you'll be up to
- 2:30:12Speaker 4: date on everything when we list stuff, et cetera, et cetera.
- 2:30:16Speaker 3: And you got to be quick with that, man, because
- 2:30:18Speaker 3: I've been fifteen minutes, like I've seen your your drops,
- 2:30:21Speaker 3: like fifteen minutes in and they're already gone.
- 2:30:23Speaker 4: We do have some dedicated customers, that's for sure. Yeah,
- 2:30:26Speaker 4: which I'm very grateful for. But yeah, please, we have
- 2:30:29Speaker 4: stuff on We're getting much better about keeping stuff on
- 2:30:33Speaker 4: the site. A lot of times people go in the
- 2:30:35Speaker 4: site like there's nothing there, and it's because we put
- 2:30:38Speaker 4: stuff out. I mean, we never want to overestimate anything
- 2:30:40Speaker 4: we do. Obviously, because we're a small business, we can't
- 2:30:43Speaker 4: afford to just put out a bunch of stuff and
- 2:30:46Speaker 4: let it sit on the site. I mean, we have
- 2:30:48Speaker 4: to sell, that's it. If we don't sell, we're dead
- 2:30:51Speaker 4: in the water. So that's kind of why it's like
- 2:30:53Speaker 4: that where stuff sells out, but we're getting better about
- 2:30:56Speaker 4: keeping stuff on the site. That way, if people want
- 2:30:59Speaker 4: to just try so, then they don't have to be like,
- 2:31:01Speaker 4: well now I gotta wait till next week and then
- 2:31:02Speaker 4: they lose. So it's a it's a fine line. We've
- 2:31:07Speaker 4: been riding with that, but we're getting real good. We
- 2:31:08Speaker 4: have stuff on the site right now at the time
- 2:31:11Speaker 4: we're recording this.
- 2:31:12Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, we'll make sure everybody checks that out
- 2:31:15Speaker 3: again one last time. Thank you guys for coming and
- 2:31:18Speaker 3: hanging out. Steve, Happy birthday, and uh we'll see you
- 2:31:21Speaker 3: guys on the next episode.
