- 0:01Speaker 1: Lenny and Carl, you guys are Buddhists?
- 0:04Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 0:04Speaker 3: If I didn't have inner peace, I'd completely go psycho
- 0:07Speaker 3: on all you guys.
- 0:08Speaker 2: All the time.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Well, I'm looking for a new faith, one that isn't
- 0:11Speaker 1: so materialistic.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Well, you've come to the right place. Buddhism teaches that
- 0:17Speaker 3: suffering is caused by desire.
- 0:20Speaker 4: Richard Gere?
- 0:21Speaker 5: Oh, the world's most famous Buddhist.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Well, what about the Dalai Lama?
- 0:26Speaker 6: Who?
- 0:27Speaker 5: You know, the 14th reincarnation of the Buddha Avalokiteshvara.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Who's Buddha?
- 0:32Speaker 3: It's a good thing Buddhism teaches freedom from desire, because
- 0:34Speaker 3: I've got the desire to kick your ass.
- 0:36Speaker 6: Mr.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Gere, I was hoping Buddhism could bring me inner peace.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Or is that just a pipe dream?
- 0:41Speaker 3: We all have dreams. Mine is of a free Tibet.
- 0:44Speaker 1: That would be so great.
- 0:46Speaker 5: I dream about meatball sandwiches. All you can eat for
- 0:48Speaker 5: two bucks.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Good luck. This pamphlet contains the teachings of the Buddha.
- 0:53Speaker 3: All things are impermanent and are empty of inherent existence.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Hey Richard, in an officer and a gentleman, did you
- 0:59Speaker 3: really do all those sit-ups?
- 1:01Speaker 2: I wish.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I did one, and they just showed it a thousand times.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Four-finger discount, dude!
- 1:18Speaker 6: Welcome to Four-Finger Discount. This week we're here to review
- 1:24Speaker 6: the annual Christmas episode... It is She of Little Faith,
- 1:27Speaker 6: episode DABF02.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I am Dando. And I am Guy. Look, we should
- 1:32Speaker 2: maybe say Merry Christmas, but instead we'll say Namaste, friends,
- 1:37Speaker 2: given the whole Buddhism theme of the episode we're about
- 1:40Speaker 2: to talk about She of Little Faith. As mentioned, I
- 1:42Speaker 2: am Guy. That is Dando. I don't know. Hang on. No.
- 1:45Speaker 2: That is Dando. Yeah, sideways.
- 1:48Speaker 6: Depends which way I put it this week.
- 1:51Speaker 2: And I think it's a pleasure to be here, but
- 1:53Speaker 2: we'd better ask the man himself. Dando, how are you, mate?
- 1:56Speaker 2: You doing all right?
- 1:57Speaker 6: I'm doing very good. On the weekend, I bought myself
- 1:59Speaker 6: this scanner, right? So for the longest time, I've got
- 2:02Speaker 6: these fucking shitloads of family albums of old family photos.
- 2:06Speaker 6: And everyone keeps saying to me, you're going to scan,
- 2:07Speaker 6: you're going to scan. I had this printer scanner combo
- 2:09Speaker 6: and it was just no good. So I went to
- 2:12Speaker 6: Officeworks and I got a proper scanner on the weekend
- 2:15Speaker 6: and I've just been scanning old photos. I mean, the
- 2:17Speaker 6: patrons have been treated as some old school Dando early
- 2:20Speaker 6: 90s photos over the weekend. So I'm very happy because
- 2:23Speaker 6: when Nan passed away last May, she had all these
- 2:26Speaker 6: photo albums and it's just been so great just going
- 2:29Speaker 6: through and finding all these old photos that I never
- 2:31Speaker 6: even knew existed of just memories that I sort of
- 2:34Speaker 6: they'll foggy my memory but now that I've seen these
- 2:36Speaker 6: images of it I'm like it did happen that's right
- 2:39Speaker 6: and that's what it looked like and yeah so it's
- 2:40Speaker 6: just I've been I'm in a good mood because I've
- 2:42Speaker 6: just been going through all these old photo albums and
- 2:44Speaker 6: you know what I'm like I love the nostalgia just
- 2:45Speaker 6: the nostalgia it's almost like Nana's back again you know
- 2:48Speaker 6: because she's always old photos of her it's just yeah
- 2:50Speaker 6: it's just it's good I don't know sounds silly but
- 2:52Speaker 6: I guess but you know just going through old photos
- 2:54Speaker 6: just makes me feel happy.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Your weekend sounds sounds very nice indeed I had both
- 2:59Speaker 2: highs and lows because, um, the lovely Louise is out
- 3:03Speaker 2: of town for the week. She is, uh, interstate.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 3:06Speaker 2: She's on a week long intensity, uh, intensity. And then
- 3:11Speaker 2: she's bouncing on a tremopoline, um, a week long intensive, uh,
- 3:15Speaker 2: for this course that she's doing up in New South Wales.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I look very, I'm, I'm looking at the camera,
- 3:22Speaker 2: but I can see myself looking kind of shifty. Like
- 3:23Speaker 2: my eyes are going like this occasionally. So apologies for that.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I mean, uh, Any amateur psychologist or body language experts
- 3:31Speaker 2: out there could probably have a bit of a field
- 3:32Speaker 2: day with, like, what's he lying about?
- 3:34Speaker 6: I think he murdered a lovely Louise. Judge Judy would
- 3:36Speaker 6: have a field day with you.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I'd have a field day with Judge Judy. But anyway,
- 3:40Speaker 2: so the lovely Louise is out of town for the week. We're,
- 3:43Speaker 2: of course, communicating via text, and I'm flying up to
- 3:45Speaker 2: see her next Saturday morning. We'll do the drive back
- 3:48Speaker 2: from New South Wales to Victoria for about 10 hours.
- 3:51Speaker 2: 10 hours in the car together. Can't wait. But also...
- 3:56Speaker 2: My good friend Natalie had her 50th birthday party. I think, yeah, 50th.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, she's admitting it. So, you know, let's
- 4:03Speaker 2: not play coy about ages. So she had a birthday
- 4:07Speaker 2: party on Saturday night, which was fantastic. Had a very,
- 4:10Speaker 2: very nice time. Had a few beers. Talked some shit.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Good times all around.
- 4:16Speaker 6: I'm just going back to that. You said 10 hours
- 4:18Speaker 6: in the car of Louise. That's got to be make
- 4:19Speaker 6: or break. Is that the longest you've been together in
- 4:21Speaker 6: a confined space or.
- 4:25Speaker 2: We flew to Bali, but that was like six hours.
- 4:27Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, yeah. At least you can sleep on the
- 4:30Speaker 6: plane or read a book or whatever. I feel like
- 4:32Speaker 6: when you're in a car together, you sort of feel
- 4:35Speaker 6: like you have to at least talk for a part
- 4:36Speaker 6: of it. When you're in a plane, it's just like, yep, right,
- 4:38Speaker 6: lights are down, close my eyes, go to sleep. But
- 4:41Speaker 6: in the car, it's like you have to engage. I
- 4:43Speaker 6: hate engaging.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I feel no compulsion whatsoever to engage. I think maybe
- 4:50Speaker 2: early on in the relationship I did, I was like,
- 4:53Speaker 2: Better keep her entertained. She'll find out how boring I am.
- 4:57Speaker 2: And now that she sort of knows how boring I am, but,
- 4:59Speaker 2: you know, the particular way in which I'm boring, I
- 5:01Speaker 2: think she's probably like, yeah, it's good that he's not talking.
- 5:04Speaker 6: But enough about our weekend, Mr. Davis. So we're here
- 5:07Speaker 6: to discuss She of Little Faith. As we said, it's
- 5:09Speaker 6: the annual Christmas episode. And I say that because back
- 5:13Speaker 6: in the golden era of the show, they didn't do
- 5:15Speaker 6: a Christmas special every year. But it seems now they
- 5:18Speaker 6: tend to do one every season. We had the Funzo episode.
- 5:22Speaker 6: We had Skin and Sense of Snow. Now we've got
- 5:24Speaker 6: She of Little Faith. And I say this is the
- 5:25Speaker 6: Christmas episode of the season, but still, I feel like
- 5:28Speaker 6: it's not a Christmas episode. It's just an episode kind
- 5:31Speaker 6: of set at Christmas.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Didn't feel especially Christmassy. No, not at all.
- 5:36Speaker 6: I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that.
- 5:38Speaker 6: Not to say that I didn't like it. I just
- 5:40Speaker 6: don't really feel you can call this a Christmas episode.
- 5:43Speaker 6: Even though the last act does kind of feel Christmassy,
- 5:45Speaker 6: but I feel if you're not going to discuss Christmas
- 5:47Speaker 6: until the final act of the episode, you can't call
- 5:49Speaker 6: it a Christmas episode.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Even if you're going to say all that, I mean, honestly,
- 5:54Speaker 2: with that final third and everything, it's like, are they
- 5:57Speaker 2: trying to get Christmassy on us? Because, I mean, it
- 5:59Speaker 2: just felt very wedged in.
- 6:03Speaker 6: It did, yeah.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Very unnatural and, yeah, not especially cheerful. It felt like
- 6:07Speaker 2: a Christmas episode in August or something.
- 6:11Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly right.
- 6:13Speaker 2: It didn't have a very ho-ho-ho feel to it.
- 6:15Speaker 6: But apparently Algen, the writers, wanted it that way. They
- 6:17Speaker 6: wanted to sort of slide into the Christmas angle rather
- 6:21Speaker 6: than just a Christmas episode, which, I don't know, I
- 6:24Speaker 6: like Christmas, so I feel like I wish it was
- 6:26Speaker 6: more Christmassy.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I like Christmas as well, but I mean, I
- 6:29Speaker 2: also think if you're going to do a Christmas episode,
- 6:33Speaker 2: do a Christmas episode. Don't try to side-white around it
- 6:36Speaker 2: or something like that and then just throw in a
- 6:39Speaker 2: few Christmas sweaters and a tree and ho-ho-ho at the
- 6:42Speaker 2: end and expect that to sort of create goodwill on
- 6:46Speaker 2: earth and peace on earth and goodwill to all men.
- 6:49Speaker 2: It's not going to work. And it didn't work this
- 6:51Speaker 2: time around.
- 6:52Speaker 6: No, definitely not. I still did like it. I thought
- 6:55Speaker 6: it was a really nice story, except for the fact
- 6:57Speaker 6: that it pretty much had the exact same template as
- 7:00Speaker 6: Lisa the Vegetarian, where she realizes that she wants a
- 7:03Speaker 6: change in her life. And then all of a sudden
- 7:05Speaker 6: they shoehorn a celebrity guest star who suits that particular change.
- 7:08Speaker 6: So we had Paul McCartney in Lisa the Vegetarian with
- 7:10Speaker 6: being a vegan. And then we had Richard Gere here
- 7:13Speaker 6: with being a Buddhist. And they enlightened her at the end.
- 7:16Speaker 2: The most famous Buddhist.
- 7:17Speaker 6: Yeah, they enlightened her at the end and make her realize,
- 7:19Speaker 6: you know, you've got it all wrong. You can do this.
- 7:22Speaker 6: You can do that. And she goes, oh, you know,
- 7:23Speaker 6: and everyone's happy in the end. Except the difference here is,
- 7:26Speaker 6: at least in this one, she wasn't pushing her beliefs
- 7:29Speaker 6: on everyone else, which is what the story of Lisa
- 7:31Speaker 6: the Vegetarian was. Here, it was more everyone else trying
- 7:33Speaker 6: to pressure her into not being a Buddhist. So it
- 7:35Speaker 6: was sort of reverse roles there. But still, the whole
- 7:38Speaker 6: celebrity cameo angle was exactly the same.
- 7:40Speaker 2: It was very much. And look, I'm very partial to
- 7:42Speaker 2: Richard Gere, so I was happy when he showed up.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I've got no problem with that. Yeah, the whole thing
- 7:47Speaker 2: about everyone seemingly quite desperate to reconvert this one girl,
- 7:53Speaker 2: sort of bring her back to the fold, seemed, I
- 7:55Speaker 2: don't know, a little weird to me. I think it's
- 7:58Speaker 2: especially weird when you've got a priest outside a window
- 8:00Speaker 2: telling a young girl, lick it, lick it.
- 8:02Speaker 6: I didn't even think of it like that.
- 8:05Speaker 2: That could be read any number of ways. Yeah. I
- 8:09Speaker 2: think the problem, and it's not a huge problem, but
- 8:12Speaker 2: the issue that I had with this particular episode is
- 8:16Speaker 2: one that I have with a fair few of recent episodes.
- 8:19Speaker 2: It doesn't feel like it's got a strong sort of
- 8:21Speaker 2: central idea. It feels like a few ideas that are
- 8:25Speaker 2: sort of mashed together. Yep. And not always successfully. I mean,
- 8:28Speaker 2: sometimes you get a bunch of ideas that may not
- 8:31Speaker 2: seem like they'll work well together, and then all of
- 8:32Speaker 2: a sudden, oh, wait a minute, we've put Voltron together. Fantastic.
- 8:36Speaker 2: This time around, yeah, it just felt like, hmm. I
- 8:39Speaker 2: think Richard Gere's got a hole in his schedule. He
- 8:41Speaker 2: likes Buddhism. You know, we can talk about Buddha. And
- 8:45Speaker 2: we'll also throw some Christmas in there. And reading up
- 8:49Speaker 2: on sort of the origins of this episode, I think
- 8:51Speaker 2: the writer of it, I'm going to mispronounce his name.
- 8:53Speaker 2: In fact, I'm going to bypass it completely because Bill something. Sorry.
- 8:57Speaker 6: Would you like me to read it out?
- 9:00Speaker 2: Please do.
- 9:01Speaker 6: The writer of the episode was Bill Freiberger.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I was about to say Feingold.
- 9:08Speaker 6: It's either Freiberger or Freiberger. I'm going to say Freiberger.
- 9:11Speaker 6: Maybe Freiberger.
- 9:12Speaker 2: F-R-E-I.
- 9:13Speaker 6: Freiberger.
- 9:13Speaker 2: So I was in the neighborhood but still hopelessly, hopelessly lost.
- 9:21Speaker 2: He made mention that he came up with the opening
- 9:26Speaker 2: act about the rockets and everything like that.
- 9:28Speaker 6: Yeah, a past experience of his from his childhood, yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. So, I mean, it just feels like how
- 9:34Speaker 2: can we connect all these things? And yeah, sometimes you
- 9:38Speaker 2: can do that successfully and sometimes you can do it
- 9:40Speaker 2: in a way that's like, okay, I guess this sticks along.
- 9:44Speaker 2: This is going to hold together for approximately 24 minutes.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Let's get the episode done.
- 9:49Speaker 6: It's just kind of like Lisa. So she turns it
- 9:51Speaker 6: back on Christianity because the church sells out to Mr. Burns,
- 9:56Speaker 6: but it's because your father blew the church up. So
- 9:59Speaker 6: there's not like that is to hey we're just going
- 10:01Speaker 6: to start making money they needed money in order to
- 10:03Speaker 6: survive and then by the end of the episode does
- 10:07Speaker 6: the church just go back to normal again because Burns
- 10:09Speaker 6: just gives him the money and he leaves and that's
- 10:10Speaker 6: never mentioned again so it's like why is Lisa no
- 10:13Speaker 6: longer a Christian she turned her back on the entire
- 10:16Speaker 6: religion as a result of something that doesn't actually match
- 10:19Speaker 6: her anymore.
- 10:21Speaker 2: True, but I think she did find a bit more
- 10:23Speaker 2: solace and a bit more resonance with Buddhism as opposed
- 10:26Speaker 2: to the very vague version of Christianity that the Simpsons
- 10:30Speaker 2: seem to practice. I mean, they're just sort of garden
- 10:32Speaker 2: variety Christians, but they don't seem to be like a
- 10:34Speaker 2: subset of anything. I don't know if they're Catholic. I
- 10:36Speaker 2: don't know if they're, I don't think they'd be Church
- 10:39Speaker 2: of England. They're not Presbyterian or Lutheran or anything like that.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I don't know what they are. I mean, I think
- 10:44Speaker 2: they're just, they're people who go to church.
- 10:46Speaker 6: What did you think of Richard Gere's performance? You said
- 10:48Speaker 6: you enjoyed it. I felt his performance a little dull,
- 10:51Speaker 6: but maybe that's just who he is. Apparently he was
- 10:54Speaker 6: really great to work with, but he just didn't feel
- 10:56Speaker 6: like he was giving it all that much.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Well, I don't think the role called for all that
- 11:02Speaker 2: much either. I mean, I think he was meant there
- 11:04Speaker 2: to be sort of Richard Gere, Buddhism spokesman.
- 11:07Speaker 6: Yeah, true.
- 11:09Speaker 2: And sort of give off a very sort of calm,
- 11:10Speaker 2: peaceful vibe. It's like, Hey, I'm Richard Gere, star of
- 11:14Speaker 2: Pretty Woman and Officer of Gentleman, international sex symbol, silver
- 11:17Speaker 2: fox before Clooney was a silver fox, all that kind
- 11:19Speaker 2: of deal. But hey, I'm not letting it get to
- 11:21Speaker 2: me because, you know, I've got the border in my life,
- 11:23Speaker 2: so I'm just chill. I think his tone and his
- 11:26Speaker 2: approach was appropriate. Yeah, it's not a character part and
- 11:30Speaker 2: it's not exactly an advertisement for, Hi, I'm Richard Gere
- 11:34Speaker 2: and I'm on The Simpsons this week. It's more like,
- 11:36Speaker 2: I'm here to tell you a little bit about Buddha.
- 11:38Speaker 2: He's a bit like the youth pastor of jokes, you know,
- 11:41Speaker 2: like they actually have in this episode. hey, I knew
- 11:43Speaker 2: a guy with long hair and some crazy ideas. So
- 11:47Speaker 2: Richard Gere's the Buddhism version of that. It's like, hey,
- 11:50Speaker 2: there's a guy called the Buddha and you might want
- 11:51Speaker 2: to check him out. He's actually got an interesting way
- 11:55Speaker 2: of looking at the world. And of course, Lisa fell
- 11:57Speaker 2: for it. Not fell for it, but you.
- 12:02Speaker 7: Know.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Lisa was very taken with it. And in all honesty, look,
- 12:06Speaker 2: I've done a little reading on Buddhism in the past
- 12:08Speaker 2: and Zen and a few other sort of belief systems
- 12:10Speaker 2: to sort of wrap my head around. And I mean,
- 12:13Speaker 2: I don't think I've got the discipline and the frame
- 12:17Speaker 2: of mind to go all in on the Buddha, but
- 12:19Speaker 2: I certainly think it's an interesting way of viewing the world.
- 12:25Speaker 6: His approach to appearing on the show is very similar
- 12:27Speaker 6: to Paul McCartney's, where he said that Lisa must remain... Actually, no, no, no.
- 12:31Speaker 6: Paul McCartney said that Lisa must remain a vegetarian. Richard
- 12:34Speaker 6: Gere said he'll only appear if Buddhism was portrayed correctly
- 12:38Speaker 6: and not sort of made fun of. And if he
- 12:41Speaker 6: gets to say the words free Tibet, well, he wanted
- 12:43Speaker 6: Lisa to say free Tibet, but ended up he being
- 12:44Speaker 6: the one say free Tibet. But they did take a
- 12:46Speaker 6: similar approach to writing stuff where they wanted to have
- 12:49Speaker 6: a bit of a character change with Lisa. And it's
- 12:52Speaker 6: good when they introduce something as serious as this, that
- 12:54Speaker 6: they actually stick with it. And she's still a Buddhist
- 12:56Speaker 6: to this day. It's similar to the vegetarian thing. And
- 12:59Speaker 6: I was, I think that's a really, really cool thing.
- 13:01Speaker 6: I mean, particularly the vegetarian angle as well, because no
- 13:04Speaker 6: one really spoke about vegetarianism on TV, particularly on a
- 13:07Speaker 6: kid's show in the nineties. And the fact that that
- 13:09Speaker 6: was a sort of, A lot of people sort of
- 13:10Speaker 6: see that episode as like, they sort of say Lisa
- 13:13Speaker 6: Simpson introduced a whole generation of kids to being a
- 13:17Speaker 6: vegetarian and being a vegan. And I think they really
- 13:21Speaker 6: enjoy writing for the character of Lisa, the writers, because
- 13:24Speaker 6: I think they relate to her the most and it
- 13:26Speaker 6: sort of comes through.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I think so. And look, to maybe use an ill-chosen
- 13:31Speaker 2: phrase here, writing about Lisa, it puts a little meat
- 13:34Speaker 2: on the bone. I mean, she really sort of goes
- 13:38Speaker 2: about things in a shallow fashion. Yeah, she takes a
- 13:41Speaker 2: moral and a fairly major stance when it comes to
- 13:44Speaker 2: not eating meat. Her initial purpose, at least, in sort
- 13:48Speaker 2: of seeking out Buddhism is she's pissed off with the
- 13:52Speaker 2: commercialisation of modern religion. You know, I mean, these are
- 13:56Speaker 2: not super weighty topics, but I mean, they've got a
- 13:59Speaker 2: little bit of substance to them. And yeah, I think
- 14:01Speaker 2: you're right. I think the writers do respond to that.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Of course, they're going to do a few cheap gags
- 14:05Speaker 2: and all that kind of business, but if they can
- 14:07Speaker 2: actually base the episode or base the story in something substantial,
- 14:13Speaker 2: then it's to the show's benefit, I think. So, yeah,
- 14:17Speaker 2: I'm not surprised that they say they enjoy writing for Lisa.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:20Speaker 6: The episode was actually nominated for the Primetime Emmy for
- 14:23Speaker 6: what's the award? The Outstanding Animator Program for programming less
- 14:26Speaker 6: than an hour. But they lost. They lost to Futurama.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Oh, boy.
- 14:32Speaker 6: Yeah, Roswell to Answell, which is one of my favorite
- 14:34Speaker 6: Futurama episodes of all time. So it was a good
- 14:36Speaker 6: episode to lose to, but it would have been pretty
- 14:38Speaker 6: funny being Matt Groening saying, I lost to myself.
- 14:43Speaker 8: Hey, my favorite.
- 14:45Speaker 6: What was your favorite moment from She of Little Faith?
- 14:48Speaker 3: All right.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Well, hang on a sec. Let me just slap these
- 14:50Speaker 2: bad boys on because I've got new frames.
- 14:52Speaker 6: Oh, very sexy.
- 14:54Speaker 2: The sum of the square root of the remaining two
- 14:56Speaker 2: sides of a sausage triangle is equal to the square
- 14:58Speaker 2: root of the remaining two sides. Oh, man.
- 15:03Speaker 6: I was going to quote that and then realise I couldn't,
- 15:04Speaker 6: so I just went with nerd.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I had a couple of little favourite bits. One when
- 15:10Speaker 2: Lisa was on the God Cam at the new commercial
- 15:13Speaker 2: church and they came with the thing pouting Thomas.
- 15:17Speaker 6: I just liked God Cam.
- 15:19Speaker 2: God Cam was pretty neat. But patting Thomas and a
- 15:22Speaker 2: nice riff on doubting Thomas. Thought that was actually quite funny.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And also at the end of that scene in the church,
- 15:29Speaker 2: just where Dan's wailing as Homer and he's sort of
- 15:31Speaker 2: doing a lot of, how was that? That's a little much.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Tones it down a bit. I just thought that his
- 15:40Speaker 2: muted wails were quite funny. So, yes, I enjoyed that
- 15:46Speaker 2: a whole lot. What were your favourite bits from the episode, Mr. Dando?
- 15:49Speaker 6: Before I get to my favourite moments, can I just say,
- 15:51Speaker 6: did you see my chair drop down just then? Were
- 15:53Speaker 6: you paying attention to me?
- 15:55Speaker 2: No, because I'm just looking at myself. I'm not looking
- 15:57Speaker 2: at you at all.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Okay.
- 15:58Speaker 6: So I actually pushed the button for the chair to
- 16:00Speaker 6: go down. I just went, boop. I really liked Ralph
- 16:05Speaker 6: and Milhouse as the pony. I thought that was very
- 16:08Speaker 6: funny stuff. More sugar, please.
- 16:12Speaker 2: He was very confident about that. I must admit, it
- 16:14Speaker 2: was a nice unexpected gag.
- 16:16Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 2: I mean, I didn't think there would be a horse
- 16:17Speaker 2: in the wrapping, but I didn't think there would be
- 16:20Speaker 2: a pantomime horse there. With Ralph and Milhouse. I don't
- 16:25Speaker 2: know why Milhouse was so excited. I mean, yeah, well,
- 16:27Speaker 2: I guess every kids are excited about sugar, but Ralph
- 16:29Speaker 2: seemed to be the one who was getting all the sugar.
- 16:31Speaker 6: Yeah, which is probably why Milhouse is very excited to
- 16:33Speaker 6: go get some finally. But I just thought, I feel
- 16:35Speaker 6: the writers now see Ralph as a very important character
- 16:39Speaker 6: because he appears a lot more often than he used to.
- 16:42Speaker 6: I think he sort of became that sort of maybe
- 16:45Speaker 6: season eight-ish onwards really likeable character. And you say to
- 16:48Speaker 6: people now, who's your favourite character? A lot of people
- 16:51Speaker 6: say Ralph Wiggum. They just love the little guy. And
- 16:53Speaker 6: it was nice to see him appear in this. I
- 16:54Speaker 6: also liked Milhouse's eyebrows getting blown off.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Oh, that's just sadistic.
- 16:59Speaker 6: Yeah, I know. The thing is, though, that the next scene,
- 17:02Speaker 6: they'll just back again. I was like, eh. If you're
- 17:03Speaker 6: going to go with that, at least have him gone.
- 17:05Speaker 6: But anyway, it doesn't matter. I just... I enjoyed, the
- 17:09Speaker 6: part I enjoyed the most was Ralph and Milhouse. Just the,
- 17:11Speaker 6: more sugar, please.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Next question.
- 17:15Speaker 6: You there, eating the paste.
- 17:17Speaker 8: Alrighty.
- 17:18Speaker 6: First question comes from yourself, Mr.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Davis.
- 17:19Speaker 6: Take it away.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Does it now? Okay, then. The commercialized robe that Reverend
- 17:28Speaker 2: Lovejoy is asked to wear is advertising witch eatery.
- 17:33Speaker 6: You got me. What is it?
- 17:35Speaker 2: It's Fatso's Hash House.
- 17:37Speaker 6: That's so hashy. That sounds delicious.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Doesn't it?
- 17:41Speaker 6: What's your favorite hash brown? Do you like Macca's hash browns?
- 17:45Speaker 6: They're a bit small, so I like them.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Well, then you just order two of them.
- 17:49Speaker 6: That is true.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Or more.
- 17:50Speaker 6: We're not all made of money, though, Mr.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Davis. Please, patrons, keep us in hash browns.
- 17:59Speaker 6: Pay us in hash. Yes, pay us in hash. My
- 18:01Speaker 6: first question is, what is the last four digits of
- 18:04Speaker 6: Homer's credit card?
- 18:04Speaker 2: 0709.
- 18:09Speaker 6: Yes, I'm assuming you've got the whole number written down there.
- 18:12Speaker 2: I did. I figured you might be asked. I thought
- 18:14Speaker 2: you were going to ask for the whole thing.
- 18:16Speaker 6: I thought about it and I went, that's just sadistic,
- 18:17Speaker 6: as you said earlier with the eyebrows. I won't do that.
- 18:19Speaker 6: That's just mean.
- 18:20Speaker 3: It's cruel.
- 18:21Speaker 6: But I knew that. See, the thing about this Zoom
- 18:22Speaker 6: call now, the fact that we're broadcasting this on YouTube
- 18:25Speaker 6: is that I can tell when you're cheating and looking
- 18:27Speaker 6: at your notes.
- 18:29Speaker 5: Oh.
- 18:30Speaker 6: See, if we were just doing this over the phone,
- 18:31Speaker 6: you could have just gone 0709. Correct, sir. Well done.
- 18:34Speaker 6: How did you know that? You would have gone, oh, well,
- 18:36Speaker 6: you know, I'm just a very smart person. But no,
- 18:40Speaker 6: well done. Yes. Just for those playing at home, his
- 18:46Speaker 6: number is 5784-3653-4341-0709. How many people, how many viewers do
- 18:49Speaker 6: you think went and tried to purchase things with that
- 18:51Speaker 6: credit card number after that?
- 18:53Speaker 2: I'd say we're definitely in double figures. I don't think
- 18:55Speaker 2: we made triple figures.
- 18:56Speaker 6: Yeah, probably not, but there would have been definitely some.
- 18:59Speaker 2: I think so.
- 19:00Speaker 6: What's your next question?
- 19:01Speaker 2: Who is the five-time shuttle alternate advertising the toy rocket?
- 19:06Speaker 2: What's his name? And rank?
- 19:08Speaker 6: Oh, Chet something, isn't it?
- 19:11Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 19:11Speaker 6: Chet Manor? Chet Manors?
- 19:12Speaker 2: Very close. Oh, you're very... Yep, that's close, but do
- 19:16Speaker 2: you know his rank?
- 19:18Speaker 6: Oh, his rank? No, what is it?
- 19:19Speaker 2: No. He's a colonel.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Colonel. I was going to say corporal.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Yeah, got it.
- 19:25Speaker 6: How many babies did Nibbles originally have?
- 19:29Speaker 2: Five. No.
- 19:31Speaker 3: What?
- 19:32Speaker 6: Wouldn't it be eight? Because he's saying goodbye to his
- 19:34Speaker 6: five kids, or she already ate three. Or was it
- 19:37Speaker 6: saying that he's now down to two?
- 19:39Speaker 2: I thought it was down to two. Okay.
- 19:43Speaker 6: I thought he was saying goodbye to his wife and
- 19:46Speaker 6: five babies. Oh, wait, no, because Marge says he's leaving
- 19:49Speaker 6: her behind with five babies and Bart then says she
- 19:52Speaker 6: already ate three yeah so I took that as eight
- 19:56Speaker 6: down to five okay could be taken either way you're
- 19:59Speaker 6: correct regardless well done hey thanks alright.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Let's have a look and see what we got here
- 20:05Speaker 2: I've got one or two more on this page but
- 20:07Speaker 2: I do have more over the other page I did
- 20:08Speaker 2: a few this time around Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 6: It was a good episode for trivia, I found. I've
- 20:13Speaker 6: got like six here.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Indeed. What date is Richard Gere's birthday?
- 20:20Speaker 6: August something. Is it August?
- 20:21Speaker 2: Yes. August.
- 20:24Speaker 6: For some reason, I've got either August 31st or August 28th.
- 20:27Speaker 6: Is it either of those dates?
- 20:28Speaker 2: It is one of those dates.
- 20:30Speaker 6: 28th.
- 20:30Speaker 2: For the coin. Damn it.
- 20:33Speaker 6: 31st. I don't know why 28th was in my head
- 20:38Speaker 6: as well.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 20:39Speaker 6: My next question is, which famous musician has already done
- 20:44Speaker 6: enough for the Springfield Church?
- 20:46Speaker 5: Oh, Bowie.
- 20:47Speaker 6: Bowie, yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 2: The late great David Bowie.
- 20:48Speaker 6: How random. Funny gag, though. He's already done enough for
- 20:50Speaker 6: this church.
- 20:53Speaker 2: What night at the church do they play blackjack?
- 20:57Speaker 6: I don't know, but it's either one of seven, so
- 20:59Speaker 6: I'm going to say Tuesday.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Oh, my God, you're right.
- 21:04Speaker 6: I don't know why it gets Tuesday.
- 21:06Speaker 2: The big neon sign at the front says, Tuesday night
- 21:09Speaker 2: is blackjack night.
- 21:10Speaker 6: Yeah, maybe it's just subconsciously in my mind hearing them
- 21:12Speaker 6: say that.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Good, well be.
- 21:15Speaker 6: What is the name of, I want to say Jimbo's
- 21:18Speaker 6: mother's boyfriend or Jimbo's stepdad or whatever.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I think Jimbo's mother's boyfriend. Oh, now I
- 21:25Speaker 2: want to say Chester?
- 21:27Speaker 6: Chester? No, it's the name of the captain of the
- 21:32Speaker 6: Iceland hockey team in D2, the Mighty Ducks.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Fuck would I know that?
- 21:37Speaker 6: It's a gunner.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Honestly, I've never seen a Mighty Ducks movie. Never have.
- 21:44Speaker 6: At all, ever?
- 21:45Speaker 3: No.
- 21:46Speaker 6: Well, we should do it for Patreon, just for fun.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Probably, yeah.
- 21:51Speaker 6: I don't care if you shit on the movie. It'd
- 21:52Speaker 6: just be fun.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:54Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, I think by the time
- 21:56Speaker 2: it came out, I was probably a bit aged out.
- 21:59Speaker 2: And I was also like, I don't think I like
- 22:01Speaker 2: Emilio Estevez that much. I mean, I know a lot
- 22:03Speaker 2: of people like Emilio. Emilio! But, I mean, he's not
- 22:08Speaker 2: done anything wrong to me. But, I mean, it's like,
- 22:11Speaker 2: I don't think Emilio is enough of a draw card
- 22:13Speaker 2: for me to watch The Mighty Ducks or D2 The
- 22:16Speaker 2: Mighty Ducks sequel.
- 22:18Speaker 6: Or D3.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Or D3. Did you know that in Australia, before it
- 22:22Speaker 2: was called The Mighty Ducks, it was just called Champions?
- 22:24Speaker 6: Yeah, well, I had the video. It was so confusing
- 22:26Speaker 6: as a kid because I had the videotape and it
- 22:27Speaker 6: was called Champions. And then my mate, for so long
- 22:31Speaker 6: when DVDs became a thing, I tried to buy the DVD,
- 22:34Speaker 6: couldn't find it anywhere. But it's because it was called
- 22:36Speaker 6: The Mighty Ducks. It was so confusing for an 11-year-old dando.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Do you know the most confusing titling sequence ever, though?
- 22:44Speaker 2: Get a load of this. First Blood. Rambo First Blood
- 22:47Speaker 2: Part 2. Rambo 3. Rambo. Rambo Last Blood.
- 22:53Speaker 6: What about Mad Max? Wasn't it The Road.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Warrior or something? It was renamed the Road Warrior for
- 22:58Speaker 2: the States.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Here we called it Mad Max 2. So it was
- 23:00Speaker 2: Mad Max, Mad Max 2, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Mad
- 23:04Speaker 2: Max Ferry Road.
- 23:05Speaker 6: Why did they change it to the Road Warrior?
- 23:07Speaker 2: I don't think Mad Max had actually sort of gained
- 23:09Speaker 2: a lot of traction in the States. I think they
- 23:12Speaker 2: looked at Mad Max 2 and thought, oh, this will
- 23:13Speaker 2: do well. I mean, this is actually really well made.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Throwing it to the Americans saying, hey, check out Mad
- 23:18Speaker 2: Max 2. It's like, where's Mad Max 1? And, you know,
- 23:21Speaker 2: this is in the sort of the... Not even pre-VHS,
- 23:24Speaker 2: but it's very early days of home video even. This
- 23:27Speaker 2: is the early 80s. So, you know, I think Mad
- 23:30Speaker 2: Max only played in like grindhouses and drive-ins over in
- 23:33Speaker 2: the States. So I thought they'd just go with a
- 23:35Speaker 2: clean slate. Okay.
- 23:37Speaker 6: Fair enough. Do one more each.
- 23:39Speaker 2: One more. How much do you pay for all-you-can-eat meatball sandwiches?
- 23:44Speaker 2: According to Lenny.
- 23:46Speaker 6: In his dreams? Yes. Is it $ 2?
- 23:50Speaker 3: $ 2.
- 23:51Speaker 2: $ 2.
- 23:52Speaker 6: Yeah, man, that would be amazing. Unlimited Subway sandwiches.
- 23:56Speaker 2: We could eat meatball sub.
- 23:58Speaker 6: Yeah, pretty damn good. All right, my final question is,
- 24:02Speaker 6: profits had increased by what percentage at the church?
- 24:05Speaker 2: I think there was one point where I wasn't listening.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I want to say 1,000%.
- 24:08Speaker 6: 1,073%.
- 24:09Speaker 2: That's close.
- 24:10Speaker 6: You were close. Yeah, not bad. Not bad at all.
- 24:15Speaker 6: All righty, guys, that is trivia. We're going to return

- 25:16Speaker 6: Finger Discount Patreon team. But for now, enjoy our review
- 25:19Speaker 6: of She of Little Faith. The original air date for
- 25:24Speaker 6: She of Little Faith was December 16th, 2001, almost on Christmas.
- 25:29Speaker 6: It was written by Bill Freyberger, I want to say. Freyberger?
- 25:32Speaker 2: If it's burger, let's say fry burger, because... Sounds better.
- 25:35Speaker 2: It sounds tastier.
- 25:37Speaker 6: I want to eat that, man. Directed by Stephen Dean Moore,
- 25:40Speaker 6: Chupo gag, I do not have a cereal named after me,
- 25:43Speaker 6: and the couch gag is that the couch is a
- 25:45Speaker 6: slot machine with the family appearing. The episode kicks off
- 25:49Speaker 6: with what, Mr.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Davis? With Rain Delay Theatre. This looks great. I think
- 25:55Speaker 2: I've told the story in the past about how my
- 25:58Speaker 2: good friend Ollie, when we were about 16 or 17...
- 26:02Speaker 2: took me to the Boxing Day test at the MCG.
- 26:07Speaker 2: And for about three hours, I was just so bored
- 26:12Speaker 2: because it was cricket. But then it got rained out,
- 26:15Speaker 2: so we got to go to the movies.
- 26:17Speaker 6: Is that the story where you say you went and
- 26:18Speaker 6: saw Rocky afterwards?
- 26:20Speaker 2: We went and saw Rocky IV.
- 26:21Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah. For me, though, I always knew that
- 26:24Speaker 6: cricket was getting rained out when Skippy reruns were on
- 26:27Speaker 6: at like 2.30 on a Saturday afternoon when the cricket
- 26:30Speaker 6: was on.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Yeah. But having said that, I mean, look, with Rain
- 26:34Speaker 2: Delay Theatre, I totally would have watched The Planet from
- 26:37Speaker 2: Outer Space, as they are called.
- 26:39Speaker 6: How great is that title?
- 26:40Speaker 2: That's very, very good. But, I mean, a lot of
- 26:43Speaker 2: my misspent childhood, you'd do vaguely athletic things on a
- 26:47Speaker 2: Saturday morning. You'd go run around an oval or play
- 26:49Speaker 2: some footy or whatever. And I'm talking, like, very, very young.
- 26:55Speaker 2: And then you'd come home. Well, I'd come home. This
- 26:57Speaker 2: was in the– oh, God. This was a very long
- 27:00Speaker 2: time ago. But there'd usually be some black and white
- 27:03Speaker 2: science fiction or monster movie on Channel 7 or whatever.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I remember seeing Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, and I
- 27:10Speaker 2: was like.
- 27:10Speaker 6: Oh, man, this is rad.
- 27:12Speaker 2: You know, I've got my little ham sandwich, got a
- 27:13Speaker 2: little glass of cordial or something.
- 27:15Speaker 6: Earth vs.
- 27:16Speaker 2: The Flying Saucers is on.
- 27:17Speaker 6: A ham sandwich.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Ham sandwich.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:21Speaker 2: I think it might have been a toasted ham and
- 27:23Speaker 2: cheese sandwich and a glass of cordial.
- 27:24Speaker 6: Good Saturday treat, for sure.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Very, very nice. Yeah, so... Yes, the planet from outer
- 27:29Speaker 2: space with its dodgy science and alien dog. Yes, struck
- 27:37Speaker 2: a chord with me. Absolutely.
- 27:39Speaker 6: A male dog.
- 27:41Speaker 2: A male dog.
- 27:43Speaker 6: We'll return after these very loud messages. And then we
- 27:46Speaker 6: get Chet Manners plugging the Orbit King. I do miss...
- 27:49Speaker 6: I was thinking about this recently, actually. I do miss
- 27:51Speaker 6: TV ads. You know, when they used to sell... during
- 27:55Speaker 6: the day when you had a day off school, it'd
- 27:56Speaker 6: be like, not you obviously, but like I'd have a
- 27:57Speaker 6: day off school in the nineties and they'd say, you know,
- 28:00Speaker 6: for just $ 39. 99, you can purchase the first six episodes
- 28:04Speaker 6: of MASH and then just a monthly fee of $ 70
- 28:05Speaker 6: for three episodes after that each month. You know, I just,
- 28:09Speaker 6: I love those midday TV ads. Just the, what was,
- 28:14Speaker 6: what would be like your favorite, like remember the ShamWow?
- 28:17Speaker 6: That was a really popular one. It was everywhere. What
- 28:20Speaker 6: was your favorite like product they would always try and
- 28:23Speaker 6: flog on TV?
- 28:24Speaker 2: I think I was very partial to those tape collections
- 28:27Speaker 2: you're talking about.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:28Speaker 6: It was the only way to get the show back then, yeah.
- 28:31Speaker 2: And you still get those ads now, apparently, because you
- 28:33Speaker 2: can't buy the entire series of A Country Practice or
- 28:37Speaker 2: Carson's Law or.
- 28:39Speaker 6: A Country Practice is now all on that 7 Plus
- 28:44Speaker 6: or whatever it is. I put it on the other
- 28:46Speaker 6: day because it was one of my nan's favourite shows.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Like, I.
- 28:49Speaker 6: I hear that music and I think of school holidays
- 28:50Speaker 6: because we always go to Nan's for school holidays. And
- 28:52Speaker 6: I put it on and I was just like, ah,
- 28:54Speaker 6: Nan's house.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Ah, back to Wandon Valley.
- 28:57Speaker 6: Yes.
- 28:58Speaker 2: So yeah, I was already parked with those, but they
- 29:00Speaker 2: always seemed like very sort of, well, first of all,
- 29:03Speaker 2: the prices seemed obscene.
- 29:05Speaker 6: Oh, the first month was okay. But then after that,
- 29:08Speaker 6: you're fucked.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I'd say that would be my favorite.
- 29:12Speaker 6: Yeah, definitely. So yeah, so he's trying to sell the
- 29:13Speaker 6: Yorbit King, but it gets sucked in straight away because
- 29:16Speaker 6: of the yaw control.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Hey, Lise, is Dad's credit card number 578-436-5343-4107-09?
- 29:19Speaker 1: You know it is.
- 29:24Speaker 6: Did you know your parents' credit card number off by heart?
- 29:27Speaker 2: He just knows it off by heart.
- 29:28Speaker 6: Well, Nicola knows ours off by heart. I don't know
- 29:30Speaker 6: mine off by heart. Do you know yours off by heart?
- 29:32Speaker 2: Oh, fuck no.
- 29:33Speaker 6: Nicola knows everything. She knows every number. So six to
- 29:38Speaker 6: eight weeks later... because that's what it was like back
- 29:40Speaker 6: then no fucking express next day delivery like Amazon oh
- 29:44Speaker 6: no you had to wait weeks no.
- 29:45Speaker 2: No there was no Amazon Prime back in the day.
- 29:47Speaker 6: No no when you order shit like that over the
- 29:49Speaker 6: phone when it arrived you forgot that you'd already ordered
- 29:52Speaker 6: it it'd be that long you know and then Homer
- 29:56Speaker 6: singing Flosset. I did like this. I did like it
- 29:57Speaker 6: when Homer sings his own renditions of songs. You must
- 30:00Speaker 6: floss it.
- 30:02Speaker 2: By the way, a quick split-second gag that I wanted
- 30:05Speaker 2: to give respect to is when Chet Manners is flogging
- 30:08Speaker 2: the Orbit Kid or whatever, and I think he eludes
- 30:12Speaker 2: the fact that he never actually got to fly in
- 30:13Speaker 2: the space shuttle. You've got this split-second look of sadness
- 30:16Speaker 2: that comes across his face when he says that.
- 30:18Speaker 6: I never noticed it.
- 30:19Speaker 2: It was nice work from the animators. Like, you mean...
- 30:25Speaker 2: I may not have set foot on the shuttle.
- 30:27Speaker 6: It would be annoying if you train your whole life
- 30:32Speaker 6: to be an astronaut and never actually end up in space.
- 30:35Speaker 6: Would you feel like a failure?
- 30:37Speaker 2: I think you would probably fill your life with all
- 30:39Speaker 2: manner of hobbies and the love of family and, you know,
- 30:43Speaker 2: service to the community and all that kind of stuff.
- 30:45Speaker 2: But I bet on your deathbed, you know, two or
- 30:48Speaker 2: three seconds before you shuffle off this mortal call and go.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I'd trade it all to go into space just fucking once.
- 30:55Speaker 6: Just once, yeah.
- 30:58Speaker 2: And hopefully your family's not there when you say that.
- 31:03Speaker 2: I'd trade all of you for five seconds in the
- 31:06Speaker 2: great outer space.
- 31:08Speaker 6: Bart asked Homer for help to build his rocket. He
- 31:10Speaker 6: puts in his contact lens. How random was that? I
- 31:13Speaker 6: was like, they just want to have people go, oh, wow,
- 31:17Speaker 6: I didn't know he had contact lenses. It doesn't go anywhere.
- 31:19Speaker 2: A lot of really sort of random throwaway gags and
- 31:23Speaker 2: this and a lot of them you know some are
- 31:25Speaker 2: fine but some are like don't really see the point
- 31:28Speaker 2: of this it's not it's not adding humour and it's
- 31:31Speaker 2: not adding structure to the story it's just filigree I
- 31:35Speaker 2: think you'd call.
- 31:35Speaker 6: It Hobart then decides he will help because he thinks
- 31:38Speaker 6: he's supporting pie pants and as opposed to science now
- 31:42Speaker 6: I've got here what's the thing that Hobart puts on
- 31:43Speaker 6: his head what's that dish called Is that a colander? Colander,
- 31:47Speaker 6: that's it, that's it. I just couldn't think of a name.
- 31:48Speaker 6: I knew you'd know it. You do love your colander.
- 31:50Speaker 2: By the way, with pie pants.
- 31:51Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:53Speaker 2: That's the first time in a while we've heard an
- 31:55Speaker 2: mmm something, isn't it?
- 31:57Speaker 6: I'm pretty sure he said it last week, didn't he? Oh, okay. Yeah,
- 32:01Speaker 6: it's last week. No, no, when was the hunk of
- 32:03Speaker 6: hunk of burns in love? Because he's like, mmm, pistol whip. Oh, okay.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Well, consider me corrected and ignorant. Honestly, it felt like
- 32:12Speaker 2: such a long time... Since he'd said, mmm, something, because
- 32:16Speaker 2: that was his thing.
- 32:17Speaker 6: I think I said that when he said, mmm, pistol whip.
- 32:22Speaker 6: Two weeks ago. But, yeah, so he's wearing his helmet.
- 32:25Speaker 6: I do love when he put his various hats. And then,
- 32:28Speaker 6: of course, because Homer builds it, it explodes immediately. Milhouse
- 32:31Speaker 6: loses his eyebrows.
- 32:32Speaker 2: My eyebrows!
- 32:34Speaker 4: My beautiful eyebrows!
- 32:36Speaker 2: Over here, Governor.
- 32:41Speaker 8: The word unblowuppable is thrown around a lot these days,
- 32:45Speaker 8: but I think I can say with confidence that... Okay,
- 32:50Speaker 8: that shows you what could potentially happen.
- 32:53Speaker 6: Then Flanders rocket blasts off, and it's perfect as expected
- 32:57Speaker 6: because the Flanders are perfect and everything. And they launch it.
- 33:00Speaker 6: Where do they launch it from? Ned Eddy Space Center
- 33:04Speaker 6: on Cape... Flandrever or something.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it was just too complicated. Although I did like
- 33:09Speaker 2: his use of the term Skyro Technics. I appreciated that.
- 33:12Speaker 6: Yeah, I didn't even pay attention to that. Milhouse, see that?
- 33:16Speaker 6: Your control. Lands perfectly in the box. So Homer says,
- 33:21Speaker 6: all right, it's time for us to build a good rocket.
- 33:23Speaker 6: Homer doesn't actually do anything. He just gets the three
- 33:25Speaker 6: nerds to come back, which I did appreciate. It was
- 33:28Speaker 6: a nice little throwback to Homer Goes to College, having
- 33:30Speaker 6: the three nerds return.
- 33:31Speaker 2: I like those nerds a lot. One other thing I
- 33:33Speaker 2: liked as well is when the nerds show up. I
- 33:36Speaker 2: don't know if it's a... I think it's a specific
- 33:38Speaker 2: sort of reference or homage, but I mean, Homer seems
- 33:41Speaker 2: to be dressed exactly like Ed Harris from Apollo 13.
- 33:44Speaker 6: I thought the exact same thing, especially when the ship's
- 33:46Speaker 6: taking off and he sort of gives him a hug.
- 33:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 33:49Speaker 2: And I think they were using a whole lot of
- 33:51Speaker 2: sort of space movie references in there as well. I
- 33:53Speaker 2: think there's a bit of right stuff stuff in there
- 33:54Speaker 2: as well.
- 33:55Speaker 6: Particularly the directing as well, just the visual, the way, like,
- 33:57Speaker 6: when Nibbles is walking towards the ship and things like that, yeah.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but Homer with the glasses not unlike these
- 34:03Speaker 2: and the pocket protector and all that, it's like, pretty
- 34:05Speaker 2: sure that's Ed Harris from Apollo 13.
- 34:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 34:08Speaker 6: What a movie, by the way.
- 34:10Speaker 8: I would really like to thank you nerds for helping
- 34:13Speaker 8: me out.
- 34:13Speaker 5: Oh, and could you stop calling us nerds?
- 34:16Speaker 8: Dweep, wonk, spaz, it's all good.
- 34:19Speaker 4: Who wants some astro lemonade?
- 34:21Speaker 3: What precisely makes it astro?
- 34:24Speaker 4: Look, I don't want to start a whole thing with this. Okay,
- 34:28Speaker 4: the rocket's ready to go.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Super.
- 34:33Speaker 8: Now, if you'll gather around, I'd like to say a
- 34:34Speaker 8: few words. All nerds, clear the launch area.
- 34:39Speaker 3: Let's wait in the car.
- 34:41Speaker 6: I did dig that. All nerds, clear the launch area.
- 34:44Speaker 6: And then Milhouse walks out with them. Nibbles, I don't know.
- 34:50Speaker 6: When animals can understand English, I just sort of feel
- 34:54Speaker 6: like I don't know whether this is what The Simpsons
- 34:57Speaker 6: used to be like. I guess we just have to
- 34:58Speaker 6: accept it now.
- 34:59Speaker 2: Yeah, look, I thought the whole Nibbles thing was okay,
- 35:04Speaker 2: but I mean... It was cute, but I was just like, eh,
- 35:07Speaker 2: come on. I'm just not partial to animals being launched
- 35:10Speaker 2: into space. I know it sort of moved the space
- 35:12Speaker 2: race forward and all that kind of stuff, But the
- 35:15Speaker 2: thought of poor old Laika, the Russian space dog being.
- 35:17Speaker 6: Oh, that's horrible, that story.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Sent up into space and it's like, you can't bring
- 35:21Speaker 2: that dog back and it's not going to chew down
- 35:23Speaker 2: on a suicide pill or something like that. Poor thing's
- 35:25Speaker 2: just going to starve to death.
- 35:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 35:27Speaker 3: That sucks.
- 35:28Speaker 6: It doesn't know what's going on. It doesn't understand that
- 35:30Speaker 6: you're sending it into space. It's just like, what the
- 35:31Speaker 6: hell's going on? Imagine what was going through that poor
- 35:33Speaker 6: dog's mind when it was launched into space.
- 35:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:38Speaker 6: That's probably exactly what was going through its mind, yes. Yeah,
- 35:42Speaker 6: I remember reading about that. For some reason, they do
- 35:44Speaker 6: a description for work. Oh, I was doing a description, actually,
- 35:47Speaker 6: for Snoopy astronaut pot vinyl for work. And I looked
- 35:50Speaker 6: up like of the space dog as a result. And
- 35:51Speaker 6: I was like, that's really sad. Yeah. Poor dog.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Oh, the poor dog.
- 35:58Speaker 6: So Nibbles hits the eject button when Homer offers advice, escapes.
- 36:02Speaker 6: The rocket crashes into the church, starts the fire. Homer
- 36:05Speaker 6: shoots his gun at it. And then that's pretty much
- 36:07Speaker 6: setting up what's going to be essentially the story.
- 36:11Speaker 2: It does. I did like that the rocket had HJS
- 36:13Speaker 2: on the side.
- 36:14Speaker 6: Yes.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Nice bit of branding. Yeah.
- 36:17Speaker 6: It's the worst thing Homer's ever done. Because Marjorie said
- 36:19Speaker 6: that so much now, it's lost all meaning. That's a
- 36:21Speaker 6: pretty memorable quote. I do remember that one.
- 36:24Speaker 2: Oh, by the way, the other thing that I talked
- 36:27Speaker 2: a little while ago about, weird throwaway gags. You know,
- 36:31Speaker 2: the bum in the gutter or the hobo in the
- 36:33Speaker 2: gutter is like, I'm off the hooch now and throws
- 36:34Speaker 2: his wine away. And some businessman who I thought was
- 36:37Speaker 2: Lionel Hutz for a moment.
- 36:39Speaker 6: No, not at all. Well, Phil's gone now, so.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Well, no, of course. But, I mean, I thought, oh,
- 36:43Speaker 2: you know.
- 36:44Speaker 6: It would have been, it would have been like.
- 36:45Speaker 5: Yes.
- 36:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Like, oh, I've got a bottle of vodka and I'm
- 36:49Speaker 2: going to jump in the gutter and just, you know, like, what?
- 36:54Speaker 1: Why?
- 36:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:55Speaker 6: What's this?
- 36:57Speaker 2: It's just. Unnecessary.
- 36:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Did you have like 20 seconds you needed to fill?
- 37:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:07Speaker 7: I have convened the church council to see what we
- 37:09Speaker 7: should do now.
- 37:11Speaker 4: Fixing this church should be our top priority.
- 37:14Speaker 1: And I say that as a teenager and the parent
- 37:16Speaker 1: of a teenager.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Fixing all that damage is going to be very expensive.
- 37:20Speaker 7: Yes, barring some sort of miracle. All right, we'll help ourselves.
- 37:28Speaker 7: Yet again. People, we need some fundraising ideas.
- 37:31Speaker 4: Let's just write to David Bowie again.
- 37:33Speaker 7: No, he's done enough for this church.
- 37:35Speaker 2: Anyone else?
- 37:39Speaker 5: I've got the answer. Just let me run this church
- 37:42Speaker 5: like a business. It's kind of you to offer, Mr Burns,
- 37:46Speaker 5: but buzz around towners that you're, well, evil.
- 37:49Speaker 4: Oh, that's just a skip rope rhyme.
- 37:51Speaker 5: Believe me, the Lord's going to go for this in
- 37:53Speaker 5: a big way.
- 37:55Speaker 6: Now, who's with me?
- 37:57Speaker 7: Oh, I guess we have no choice.
- 38:00Speaker 5: Excellent. Go!
- 38:02Speaker 3: Oh, you'll get yours.
- 38:05Speaker 6: Then he introduces Lindsay Nagel. And what do you think?
- 38:09Speaker 6: Don't let the skirt fool you.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Nice little bit of casual sexism. That's the way we
- 38:18Speaker 2: rolled in the early 2000s.
- 38:19Speaker 6: We certainly did. They offer the Reverend the robe covered
- 38:23Speaker 6: in sponsors that you mentioned earlier during your trivia. And Mr.
- 38:27Speaker 6: Burns is very funny here. Too bad. You've already signed
- 38:30Speaker 6: the deal. I know he hasn't. Oh, well, we really
- 38:33Speaker 6: value your input. Until you sign the deal. Until you
- 38:36Speaker 6: sign the deal.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I did like his enthusiasm. It's nice when Boonzy gets
- 38:41Speaker 2: enthusiastic about stuff.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Why does Jesus have a lasso?
- 38:47Speaker 8: Because he's old, man.
- 38:49Speaker 6: It looked more like a casino than a church, didn't it?
- 38:53Speaker 6: Very Vegas-y.
- 38:53Speaker 2: It does.
- 38:54Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:55Speaker 6: That's one thing I loved about Vegas was just the
- 38:56Speaker 6: big neon signs and everything. Pretty cool. Reminds me of
- 38:59Speaker 6: Con Air.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Oh, God. I've never been to Vegas.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Really?
- 39:04Speaker 2: No, no.
- 39:05Speaker 3: It's weird.
- 39:05Speaker 2: That was going to be my plan for my milestone
- 39:08Speaker 2: birthday of recent years.
- 39:10Speaker 6: What was that, your 60th? For those of you playing
- 39:16Speaker 6: at home, Guy just gave me the bed.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Dan will probably fuzz that out or something like that.
- 39:22Speaker 2: I don't know. I was going to go to California.
- 39:24Speaker 2: I'm going to go to LA, hire a convertible, drive
- 39:27Speaker 2: the Pacific Coast Highway. But one thing I really wanted...
- 39:30Speaker 2: to do was drive into Vegas at night from the desert.
- 39:33Speaker 2: That's what we did. Yeah, I'd love to do that.
- 39:36Speaker 2: I think that'd be great.
- 39:37Speaker 6: That's really good. What was your song of choice when
- 39:40Speaker 6: you first start hitting the road?
- 39:42Speaker 2: Actually, this is going to.
- 39:45Speaker 2: It's not exactly rockin', but it brings to mind California.
- 39:50Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I think it's by the band America, or maybe it's
- 39:53Speaker 2: by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, but it's called Ventura Highway.
- 39:56Speaker 6: I don't think I know that by name. I might
- 39:58Speaker 6: know the song, though.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Ventura Highway in the sunshine.
- 40:03Speaker 6: I'll look it up after we finish recording. I'm sure
- 40:04Speaker 6: I do know it.
- 40:05Speaker 2: That was certainly going to be the first song that
- 40:07Speaker 2: I played. I mean, I probably would have come up
- 40:09Speaker 2: with some all-American playlist or some very sort of California
- 40:12Speaker 2: soft rock, middle-of-the-road 70s kind of deal.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Money changed.
- 40:26Speaker 5: Get your money changed right here in the temple.
- 40:29Speaker 1: That could not be more blasphemous.
- 40:33Speaker 4: Where's Bart? Do a nice one for grammar.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Fine.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Bart pulling those faces felt very old school to me.
- 40:48Speaker 2: That felt very like, They have a very early season Bart.
- 40:52Speaker 6: That's true, yeah. Like little, just mischief Bart, yeah.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Yes.
- 40:56Speaker 6: But yeah, so all the new pews are very comfy
- 40:58Speaker 6: and whatnot, but Lisa just stubborn. She refuses to like it.
- 41:01Speaker 6: She's totally against the whole commercialization of the church.
- 41:05Speaker 7: And Lord, please remember our infirm parishioners, especially Mrs. Glick,
- 41:10Speaker 7: who's recovering from hip surgery. And now let us rise and... Um.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Um.
- 41:19Speaker 5: He's not going to say it.
- 41:21Speaker 4: Trust me, he'll say it or I'll bust him down
- 41:23Speaker 4: to Thursday night vespers.
- 41:25Speaker 7: And thank Crazy Larry, whose big screen TV prices are insane.
- 41:30Speaker 7: And now to deliver a special sermon on the sanctity
- 41:36Speaker 7: of deliciousness, the Noid.
- 41:43Speaker 5: That's it.
- 41:45Speaker 6: Quiet, Lisa.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Everyone in the store is looking at you.
- 41:49Speaker 1: They should take a good look at themselves and what
- 41:52Speaker 1: their church has become.
- 41:54Speaker 7: Lisa, it's still the same basic message. We've just dressed
- 41:57Speaker 7: it up a little.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Like the whore of Babylon?
- 42:01Speaker 7: That is a false analogy.
- 42:03Speaker 4: No, it's not.
- 42:04Speaker 1: It's apt. Don't you see what Mr Burns has done
- 42:09Speaker 1: to this church?
- 42:10Speaker 8: He restored it from nave to narthex.
- 42:13Speaker 5: He supersized the pews for the zaftig believers.
- 42:16Speaker 4: He put ice in the urinals.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Those are all wonderful things, but they've cost the church
- 42:21Speaker 1: its soul. And I, for one, will not be a.
- 42:24Speaker 4: Part of it.
- 42:25Speaker 6: The noid to Australian listeners and Australian viewers on YouTube
- 42:30Speaker 6: is the Domino's pizza mascot, I believe, in America.
- 42:34Speaker 2: I think the Noid was supposed to be a bit
- 42:36Speaker 2: of a pest. Yes.
- 42:39Speaker 6: I'm assuming he never speaks because that's the gag here.
- 42:41Speaker 6: He gets interrupted before he can speak.
- 42:42Speaker 2: I'm assuming he must never talk.
- 42:44Speaker 6: Oh, okay.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Was the Noid ever on Australian TV? I don't think
- 42:46Speaker 2: we ever got any.
- 42:47Speaker 6: I don't think so. But the Noid is Domino's, right?
- 42:49Speaker 6: Let me just look it up just to make sure.
- 42:50Speaker 2: I believe so, yeah. And I think the Noid sort
- 42:54Speaker 2: of came up to show you, like, there's going to
- 42:56Speaker 2: be all manner of obstacles stopping you from getting your
- 42:58Speaker 2: pizza on time, and here's the Noid, you know, fucking
- 43:00Speaker 2: with the delivery driver.
- 43:01Speaker 6: Like he's annoying, yeah.
- 43:02Speaker 2: The Domino delivery driver is so bloody dedicated to getting
- 43:05Speaker 2: you your pizza on time and hot that they'll just
- 43:08Speaker 2: outwit the Noid at every turn, apparently.
- 43:11Speaker 6: Okay.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Or something else entirely, because I just made that up
- 43:15Speaker 2: off the top of my head.
- 43:16Speaker 6: The Noid hasn't been seen for like four years now.
- 43:19Speaker 6: I think they sort of phased him out. I think
- 43:22Speaker 6: their branding now is not an annoying guy trying to
- 43:24Speaker 6: stop you from getting pizza. It's just a Domino.
- 43:28Speaker 2: It's just a cheap shit pizza.
- 43:31Speaker 6: Sorry, Domino's.
- 43:32Speaker 2: It's not a good pizza. It's not a good pizza.
- 43:36Speaker 6: I've had one Domino's pizza in my entire life and
- 43:40Speaker 6: maybe it was the alcohol talking, but yeah, it wasn't
- 43:42Speaker 6: very good. It, um, Normally, pizza tastes better after a
- 43:45Speaker 6: few beers, and this one, I can safely say, did not.
- 43:48Speaker 2: There's that old line about sex is like pizza. Even
- 43:51Speaker 2: when it's bad, it's pretty good. These people have not
- 43:53Speaker 2: had Domino's.
- 43:55Speaker 6: That's exactly right.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Oh, man. Sorry, Domino's. We are willing to take all
- 44:03Speaker 2: this back if you want to advertise on Four Finger Discount.
- 44:07Speaker 2: You can really taste the domino.
- 44:10Speaker 6: That's good dominoes.
- 44:12Speaker 2: That's good pizza. From dominoes. See, we have no shame whatsoever.
- 44:25Speaker 6: Lisa, where are we up to? I've lost where we're
- 44:28Speaker 6: up to again.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Lisa is being a grouch.
- 44:30Speaker 5: Yes.
- 44:30Speaker 6: Homer's line, he was great. Lisa, everyone in the store
- 44:35Speaker 6: is looking at you. Yeah, she's just annoyed with the
- 44:42Speaker 6: commercialization of the church, so she storms out. But Reverend
- 44:45Speaker 6: here is great. It's just the same basic message. We've
- 44:47Speaker 6: just dressed it up a little bit.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Pretty much. I would probably be the kind of person,
- 44:54Speaker 2: in a situation that I didn't like, I would probably
- 44:55Speaker 2: get on a chair and yell, apt! That's the kind
- 44:58Speaker 2: of person I am.
- 45:00Speaker 6: For no reason, just to yell out the word apt.
- 45:03Speaker 7: Apt!
- 45:03Speaker 2: This is not apt!
- 45:04Speaker 6: Homer doesn't know how to feel, and as you mentioned,
- 45:06Speaker 6: you get the various, ooh, sad cries.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Also, let's not forget that working the door at the
- 45:13Speaker 2: new church, do you want a stamp so you can
- 45:16Speaker 2: come back later? Squee voice team, represent.
- 45:22Speaker 6: Very good. We come back from commercial, and Lisa is
- 45:26Speaker 6: praying for a temple free of corruption, and Marge is
- 45:29Speaker 6: interfering here. I feel like Marge is the one that's
- 45:30Speaker 6: sort of forcing it down her throat the most. She
- 45:33Speaker 6: really doesn't want Lisa to leave And I can understand it.
- 45:37Speaker 2: I don't think Marge is necessarily pro-Christianity or anti-any other religion.
- 45:42Speaker 2: I just think Marge likes the status quo. Yes. I
- 45:45Speaker 2: think she just likes.
- 45:46Speaker 6: She doesn't like change, yeah.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Fears change, yes.
- 45:51Speaker 6: Yes. It was great here. So, Lisa, I still believe
- 45:54Speaker 6: in God, whether it's him or her. She's just kidding.
- 45:57Speaker 6: She's just kidding.
- 45:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 46:01Speaker 6: Lisa is then looking for a new faith, and Bart
- 46:03Speaker 6: makes a few suggestions, like the one about eight human
- 46:05Speaker 6: hearts and Methodist Judaism, because you can ka-ching when it's, what, 13?
- 46:11Speaker 6: Is that when they get the money? Yeah, 13, yeah.
- 46:13Speaker 6: She then goes for a walk. I always appreciate these
- 46:16Speaker 6: when they have the little neon signs.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Floating neon signs are great.
- 46:19Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Yep, love it. I always love it when that happens.
- 46:22Speaker 6: My favourite was just Amish.
- 46:27Speaker 2: There's those series like Amish Gone Wild or something. I'm
- 46:30Speaker 2: not talking about pornography. I'm talking about actual like reality shows.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Oh, shit.
- 46:33Speaker 6: No, never heard of it. That sounds like a great show.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Do you know the phenomenon known as Rumspringer?
- 46:39Speaker 5: No.
- 46:39Speaker 6: Oh, was that the one where they're allowed to like
- 46:41Speaker 6: go away for like a weekend or whatever?
- 46:42Speaker 2: They're allowed to step out for a year.
- 46:44Speaker 6: A year is it? Holy shit.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Oh, I thought, I think it can maybe go up
- 46:48Speaker 2: to a year. Maybe you can't go beyond a year. But, yeah,
- 46:52Speaker 2: if you are born Amish or born into the Amish community,
- 46:55Speaker 2: you are given the opportunity to say, all right, I'm
- 46:57Speaker 2: going to go into the outside world and I'm going to,
- 46:59Speaker 2: you know, try some of this wacky electricity that I've
- 47:02Speaker 2: heard about. Or, you know, I might wear clothes that
- 47:05Speaker 2: are neither white nor black, but another colour. So, and
- 47:08Speaker 2: if you think, oh, wow, the outside world's for me,
- 47:10Speaker 2: then you don't have to go back. But I think
- 47:12Speaker 2: our friends in the Amish community are kind of like, eh,
- 47:15Speaker 2: they'll see how crap the outside world is and they'll
- 47:17Speaker 2: come back and churn some butter.
- 47:19Speaker 7: No.
- 47:19Speaker 5: So.
- 47:20Speaker 2: No. Our friends at TLC, broadcaster of such great shows
- 47:24Speaker 2: as 90 Day Fiancé.
- 47:26Speaker 6: Not the 90s hip-hop band.
- 47:28Speaker 2: No, no, no. Not the Chasing Waterfalls gals. They had
- 47:32Speaker 2: a show. I've forgotten the name of it, but I
- 47:33Speaker 2: think it was something like Amish Gone Wild or whatever.
- 47:36Speaker 6: That sounds fantastic.
- 47:37Speaker 2: Doesn't it sound dope? You'd follow kids out on Rumspringer.
- 47:43Speaker 6: It reminds me of 2001 pay-per-view. Amish Gone Wild. They
- 47:49Speaker 6: used to have those specials back when I was a kid,
- 47:51Speaker 6: late 90s, early 2000s. Jerry Springer's greatest hits. Pay $ 40
- 47:56Speaker 6: for 45 minutes of flesh and nudity and fucking language
- 48:02Speaker 6: and all this kind of stuff.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Sounds like a deal. It does, yeah, yeah. Well, that's
- 48:05Speaker 2: the thing. I mean, remember when Big Brother was first on?
- 48:08Speaker 2: You had your regular episodes and all that, but then
- 48:10Speaker 2: you had Big Brother up late.
- 48:12Speaker 6: No, uncut 9.30pm on a Monday. Uncut.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Hot dogs.
- 48:17Speaker 6: Up late, hot dog, yeah, yeah.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Hot dogs, I'm not talking about, that's not a euphemism
- 48:20Speaker 2: for dicks. Hot dogs was the host.
- 48:22Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:22Speaker 2: But he was also a dick, so there you go.
- 48:24Speaker 6: I also enjoyed the games. You know, they just had
- 48:26Speaker 6: the puzzles on the screen to keep you entertained when
- 48:28Speaker 6: the people were sleeping in the house. Like, well, fuck,
- 48:30Speaker 6: there's nothing happening in the house. Let's just play crosswords.
- 48:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:35Speaker 6: Oh, man, but I will admit that I did watch
- 48:37Speaker 6: me some Big Brother up late. When the show first started,
- 48:40Speaker 6: I enjoyed it. I watched it all the time.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Same.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:43Speaker 2: Oh, look, I think a few years down the road,
- 48:46Speaker 2: we can all admit, we all watched Idol back then.
- 48:48Speaker 2: We all watched Big Brother.
- 48:50Speaker 6: We did, yeah.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Don't say you didn't. You did.
- 48:52Speaker 6: I remember being furious that Guy Sebastian beat Shannon Oll.
- 48:59Speaker 6: But let's get back on track.
- 49:00Speaker 2: The Amish sign has floated past her head, but where
- 49:02Speaker 2: does Lisa end up?
- 49:03Speaker 6: She ends up at the Springfield Buddhist Temple and Lenny
- 49:07Speaker 6: and Carl are there. Carl mentions that if he didn't
- 49:09Speaker 6: find Buddhism, he'd be going psycho on everybody. Then Richard
- 49:12Speaker 6: Gere arrives and he explains the various Buddhism traits, you know,
- 49:17Speaker 6: what they believe in, what they don't. And I don't
- 49:20Speaker 6: understand Lenny here not understanding anything about Buddhism. I can
- 49:25Speaker 6: kind of understand, I guess, in the sense that maybe
- 49:27Speaker 6: he's just there so he's with Carl.
- 49:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I get the feeling he sort of got sold
- 49:32Speaker 2: on a bit of like, hey, just come in and
- 49:34Speaker 2: sit here and think about nothing and it'll sort of
- 49:36Speaker 2: ease your mind or whatever. It's like, yeah, that sounds fine.
- 49:39Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure there are plenty of diehard Christians
- 49:43Speaker 2: who aren't necessarily up to speed with everything that's.
- 49:46Speaker 5: In the Bible.
- 49:47Speaker 2: Or they could name maybe six of the Ten Commandments.
- 49:51Speaker 2: Or how many disciples were there? Twelve?
- 49:55Speaker 7: Okay.
- 49:56Speaker 2: I think there were twelve. They could probably name like
- 49:58Speaker 2: eight or something. No, they probably couldn't name eight. I
- 50:00Speaker 2: couldn't name four.
- 50:01Speaker 7: So.
- 50:02Speaker 6: You didn't even know how many there were.
- 50:05Speaker 2: I'm going straight to hell.
- 50:07Speaker 5: Okay.
- 50:08Speaker 2: So, look, it may well be the case that there
- 50:10Speaker 2: are boarders who are not 100% up to speed with
- 50:12Speaker 2: everything about the Bodhi tree and all that kind of business.
- 50:14Speaker 2: I don't know. That's just me playing devil's advocate.
- 50:16Speaker 5: Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
- 50:18Speaker 6: He gives Lisa the pamphlet, mentions how all things are impermanent,
- 50:21Speaker 6: empty of inherent existence, and then we get the little
- 50:24Speaker 6: mention to Officer and a Gentleman about the sit-ups. That's
- 50:28Speaker 6: one thing at least Richard Gere in this was willing
- 50:29Speaker 6: to poke fun at himself. That's what Al Gina said, yeah.
- 50:32Speaker 6: That's true. The best celebrity cameos or appearances are the
- 50:35Speaker 6: ones where they get it and understand it's okay to
- 50:38Speaker 6: make fun of yourself. It's all just a bit of fun,
- 50:41Speaker 6: you know?
- 50:41Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing. I like Richard Gere a lot.
- 50:43Speaker 2: I mean, I saw him in movies when I was
- 50:44Speaker 2: growing up. I saw Officer and a Gentleman at the cinema.
- 50:46Speaker 2: Officer and a Gentleman's a really sort of a pretty
- 50:50Speaker 2: gnarly movie. It's got that famous final scene where he
- 50:52Speaker 2: goes back and rescues Deborah Winger from the factory in
- 50:55Speaker 2: his dress whites and all that. There's really a lot
- 50:58Speaker 2: of bleak stuff and fairly adult stuff in Officer and
- 51:01Speaker 2: a Gentleman.
- 51:02Speaker 3: I mean.
- 51:03Speaker 2: I shouldn't have been watching it as like a 12-year-old
- 51:05Speaker 2: without sort of parental guidance or whatever. But I was like, oh, hey,
- 51:09Speaker 2: this is good. And there's people dropping the C word.
- 51:11Speaker 2: Someone takes their own life. There's a fair bit of
- 51:14Speaker 2: nudity in it. Having said that, it's a really good movie.
- 51:16Speaker 2: So what was I talking about? No, I like Richard
- 51:19Speaker 2: Gere a lot. Sorry, I got distracted by the nudity
- 51:23Speaker 2: and the C word. I like Richard Gere a lot,
- 51:27Speaker 2: but he was very sort of– he was very intense
- 51:30Speaker 2: in as a young actor, like a lot of young
- 51:32Speaker 2: actors are, you see it with everyone from like Brad
- 51:35Speaker 2: Pitt through to Robert Pattinson. They have to get it
- 51:38Speaker 2: out of their system. They have to give these really
- 51:40Speaker 2: sort of, in Richard Gere's case, he's sort of like
- 51:44Speaker 2: bellowing at someone in an office room.
- 51:45Speaker 6: I got nowhere else to go.
- 51:47Speaker 2: I got nowhere else to go. And after a while,
- 51:50Speaker 2: he's like, I don't have to work so hard. I'm
- 51:52Speaker 2: Richard Gere. I can be kind of chill. And that's
- 51:55Speaker 2: when he had a bit of a comeback in the
- 51:56Speaker 2: early 90s with Pretty Woman and this really good, cop
- 51:59Speaker 2: movie called internal affairs that i also recommend but that's
- 52:02Speaker 2: also pretty gnarly as well but you know he just
- 52:04Speaker 2: got very sort of i don't know if this is
- 52:06Speaker 2: around the time that he embraced buddhism or whatever but
- 52:08Speaker 2: he just was like yeah i don't have to work
- 52:10Speaker 2: so hard and you see that with i think a
- 52:13Speaker 2: lot of particularly with male actors and you've seen it
- 52:16Speaker 2: with pitt i mean you look at pitt in 12
- 52:19Speaker 2: monkeys for instance and then you look him in oceans
- 52:21Speaker 2: 11 it's like oh you've calmed down You've chilled out.
- 52:25Speaker 2: That's good.
- 52:25Speaker 6: Then you say, what's the point of time in Hollywood?
- 52:27Speaker 6: And he's even more chilled out.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Exactly. Like Robert Pattinson as well. There were a few
- 52:30Speaker 2: movies around the time of Twilight where he's like, you're
- 52:33Speaker 2: trying too hard, dude. I mean, I appreciate that you
- 52:35Speaker 2: sort of want to make a name for yourself and
- 52:37Speaker 2: all that, but you're trying a bit too hard. And
- 52:38Speaker 2: then I think a few movies down the line, he's like, oh,
- 52:41Speaker 2: you've relaxed. Oh, that's good. You found it. You found
- 52:43Speaker 2: your groove.
- 52:44Speaker 6: And now he's the Batman.
- 52:46Speaker 2: And now he's the Batman. Which apparently they've just wrapped
- 52:49Speaker 2: filming on.
- 52:49Speaker 6: I can't wait for that.
- 52:50Speaker 2: Oh, by the way, I don't know if we should
- 52:51Speaker 2: talk about this or talk about it on another episode.
- 52:54Speaker 2: Zack Snyder's Justice League. I watched the whole thing last week.
- 52:59Speaker 2: They sent me a preview link.
- 53:02Speaker 6: Let's say that for another show, but in 10 seconds
- 53:05Speaker 6: or less, tell us, did Guy Davis like it and
- 53:07Speaker 6: does he recommend it?
- 53:09Speaker 2: I did, but it's very Zack Snyder. So if you
- 53:12Speaker 2: like 300 and you like Watchmen and other stuff that
- 53:16Speaker 2: he's done, he's got a very distinctive way of doing
- 53:19Speaker 2: things and a very distinctive style. And this movie is
- 53:21Speaker 2: all that. I mean, the Justice League where Joss Whedon
- 53:24Speaker 2: came in, as I like to call it, the Jostice League. Okay,
- 53:28Speaker 2: I'm fired. Was no good because it was two movies
- 53:31Speaker 2: trying to... It was like an episode of The Simpsons.
- 53:34Speaker 2: They had different stuff and they tried to smush it together.
- 53:36Speaker 6: It was like The Predator. Yeah.
- 53:39Speaker 2: And it didn't work at all. But this new version,
- 53:42Speaker 2: it's four hours and it's all very Zack Snyder style.
- 53:47Speaker 2: And I found myself kind of enjoying it as a result.
- 53:50Speaker 2: It's very bombastic and over the top and all that,
- 53:54Speaker 2: but kind of fun. It's so different from the Marvel
- 53:57Speaker 2: way of doing things that it's like, oh, you can
- 53:59Speaker 2: do other things with superheroes. So we may talk about
- 54:02Speaker 2: that somewhere else down the line.
- 54:03Speaker 6: You might have to send me the link.
- 54:06Speaker 2: Well, I think it starts Thursday. It's on Binge. Oh, okay.
- 54:10Speaker 6: I have no idea what that is.
- 54:13Speaker 2: I think it's the Foxtel streaming service. Oh, okay.
- 54:15Speaker 6: Hopefully I get it then. I'm sure there are other
- 54:17Speaker 6: ways of getting it. It sounds like the Shmurrit Bay
- 54:19Speaker 6: for me.
- 54:21Speaker 2: It's four hours of superheroes crashing into shit.
- 54:24Speaker 6: Four hours?
- 54:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:26Speaker 6: Fuck that. No way.
- 54:28Speaker 2: It's divided into chapters. You can break it up over
- 54:30Speaker 2: a couple of nights. Okay.
- 54:33Speaker 6: So. I'll give it a go. Hey, I'm a Buddhist!
- 54:40Speaker 5: My Satan sense is tingling.
- 54:43Speaker 6: Into the root cellar, boys.
- 54:44Speaker 4: When can we come out?
- 54:46Speaker 5: Maybe never.
- 54:47Speaker 3: Yay!
- 54:53Speaker 6: I did like Flanders Satan senses tingling, much like Spidey senses. Ben,
- 54:59Speaker 6: do you think Homer is yelling at Lisa? I thought
- 55:01Speaker 6: this was going to be your favourite moment, but he's
- 55:02Speaker 6: actually yelling at Bart to butter his bacon.
- 55:06Speaker 2: I did enjoy that, and I'll save my favourite line
- 55:10Speaker 2: from that for a little bit later. But, yeah, that
- 55:13Speaker 2: whole bit was actually good. I mean, just the sad
- 55:16Speaker 2: look on Bart's face when he's got to put butter
- 55:18Speaker 2: on his bacon. Oh, dear. Yeah, I know.
- 55:21Speaker 6: Bacon up that sausage, boy. It's just like, not even
- 55:26Speaker 6: any dialogue. It's just the look of Homer like, you better.
- 55:31Speaker 6: Lisa then explains that she's now a Buddhist. Homer's... punishment
- 55:35Speaker 6: of no more chat rooms for you a it feels
- 55:37Speaker 6: very 2001 no more chat rooms because they're not a
- 55:41Speaker 6: thing anymore but i guess the modern day chat room
- 55:43Speaker 6: is just like a twitter well.
- 55:44Speaker 2: They predated social media those things yeah yeah it's where
- 55:48Speaker 2: you went to find like-minded individuals hey simpson i hear
- 55:56Speaker 2: your sister dumped christianity who.
- 55:58Speaker 4: Cares i'll tell you someone who cares He's got long hair,
- 56:03Speaker 4: works as a carpenter, has a lot of crazy ideas
- 56:06Speaker 4: about love and brotherhood. His name's Gunner, and he's dating
- 56:09Speaker 4: my mom. Sometimes he buys us beer.
- 56:13Speaker 1: I thought Kearney was dating your mom.
- 56:15Speaker 4: Hey, she came on to me.
- 56:17Speaker 8: Get him!
- 56:18Speaker 3: Ow!
- 56:23Speaker 2: I'm so confused by Kearney.
- 56:26Speaker 6: That's the gag now. The gag is that it doesn't
- 56:27Speaker 6: make any sense. He's got a kid. He hasn't got
- 56:29Speaker 6: a kid. He's a teenager. He's an adult. It's meant
- 56:31Speaker 6: to be ridiculous.
- 56:32Speaker 2: He's just a teenager and the parent of a teenager.
- 56:35Speaker 2: That's not possible.
- 56:36Speaker 8: No, no.
- 56:37Speaker 6: It's meant to be stupid.
- 56:38Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay. Just roll with it.
- 56:40Speaker 3: Okay.
- 56:40Speaker 2: Yes. I appreciate Kearney because of this.
- 56:44Speaker 6: Lisa's been planting a Bodhi tree. Marge questions. It's very Marge.
- 56:49Speaker 6: Is it because a boy at school doesn't like you, Lisa?
- 56:52Speaker 6: Is that why you're acting out?
- 56:55Speaker 2: It's a very parental thing to say. I mean, this
- 56:57Speaker 2: is me, the person with no children, telling the parent this.
- 57:01Speaker 2: But it strikes me as a very parental thing to
- 57:04Speaker 2: say that, yes, you're making radical changes in your belief
- 57:08Speaker 2: systems and the way you view the world. Because my
- 57:12Speaker 2: heart's broken. Or something along those lines. Although, who knows?
- 57:17Speaker 6: I enjoyed the next one even more when she starts praying.
- 57:19Speaker 6: That's it. You're going to get a bath tonight. I
- 57:22Speaker 6: was like, that is like, exactly. That is a punishment
- 57:24Speaker 6: because my kids, like Ellie is two, already hates bath.
- 57:29Speaker 6: He loves being in the bath, but it's sort of
- 57:31Speaker 6: kind of like me going for a run. Once I'm running,
- 57:34Speaker 6: I'm fine. But getting onto that treadmill, I don't want to.
- 57:41Speaker 6: Burns then has the meeting to discuss the profits. He
- 57:43Speaker 6: says they're going up by 1,073%. puff of smoke, you
- 57:46Speaker 6: think he's going to bail all the money, but no,
- 57:48Speaker 6: he hasn't left in time, so he just chucks him
- 57:50Speaker 6: a bunch of money. And that's the end of that story.
- 57:52Speaker 6: It's just never mentioned again.
- 57:54Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 57:54Speaker 6: It's just like, okay, well, that's the end of that.
- 57:56Speaker 6: Now let's move on to the devil daughter.
- 57:58Speaker 2: We've changed horses midstream, and now it's very much about
- 58:01Speaker 2: Lisa and her Buddhism.
- 58:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:02Speaker 6: And by the way, it's a Christmas episode now, guys.
- 58:05Speaker 6: It's all about Christmas.
- 58:06Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 58:06Speaker 6: It's like 60 minutes into the episode, but it's now
- 58:09Speaker 6: a Christmas story. But I think it starts here where
- 58:11Speaker 6: he says, you know, Santa doesn't leave presents under the
- 58:13Speaker 6: Bodhi tree. And I loved this line from the Reverend.
- 58:17Speaker 6: You can save more souls with roller skates and Easy
- 58:19Speaker 6: Bake Ovens than this 2,000-page sleeping pill. That would have
- 58:25Speaker 6: annoyed quite a few viewers, I would imagine. Marge then
- 58:27Speaker 6: gets Homer to put the singing angel on Lisa's tree.
- 58:30Speaker 6: Did you get a kick out of Homer dancing to it?
- 58:32Speaker 2: Yes, very much. I liked his little dance a whole lot.
- 58:35Speaker 6: He was having so much fun. Obviously, it was him
- 58:39Speaker 6: doing the barking sound. But yeah, just him dancing to himself.
- 58:42Speaker 6: I thought it was really good. Marge then bakes cookies
- 58:44Speaker 6: but throws them out because Lisa doesn't celebrate Christmas anymore.
- 58:47Speaker 6: And Bart eats them and accidentally eats a dog food lid.
- 58:50Speaker 2: I would eat those cookies out of that bin.
- 58:52Speaker 6: Oh, mate. I'd eat anything out of the bin. I
- 58:54Speaker 6: don't mind. Yeah, I've got no problem with it. I'm
- 58:56Speaker 6: very George Costanza when it comes to that.
- 58:58Speaker 2: Yeah, likewise. I mean.
- 59:00Speaker 6: If they've just gone into the bin, it's fair game.
- 59:02Speaker 2: I'm a little bit discerning. Mostly I'm like, if this
- 59:05Speaker 2: hasn't touched too many other rubbish items.
- 59:07Speaker 6: If it's just on the top, it doesn't matter.
- 59:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:10Speaker 6: That's fine. It's no different from a plate, in my opinion. Yeah.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Listen to us, kids.
- 59:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 59:15Speaker 2: I think we should rename this from Four Finger Discount
- 59:18Speaker 2: to Five Second Rule. This should be the new name
- 59:21Speaker 2: of the podcast. Five Second Rule.
- 59:23Speaker 6: I like it. We then get, I would say, our
- 59:26Speaker 6: Christmas Eve, and the family all sing the carol to
- 59:28Speaker 6: try and fool Lisa, try and convert her back, and
- 59:31Speaker 6: then they try and fool her with a pony present.
- 59:33Speaker 6: And this whole scene, I just got to kick out
- 59:35Speaker 6: of it, by pressuring her with Maggie with the candy cane.
- 59:37Speaker 6: And now that you mention it, a reverend outside the
- 59:39Speaker 6: window saying, lick it, lick it, is a little concerning.
- 59:41Speaker 6: I don't look at it that way, but just Ralph.
- 59:44Speaker 6: I just love that. More sugar, please.
- 59:47Speaker 2: So happy.
- 59:48Speaker 4: Well, you do have a present under the tree. I
- 59:51Speaker 4: guess no one told Santa you were a Buddhist.
- 59:54Speaker 1: Well, Santa can take it back because I'm not ruled
- 59:57Speaker 1: by material design.
- 59:59Speaker 4: Is that a pony?
- 1:00:03Speaker 8: I don't know what Santa left you. I just know
- 1:00:06Speaker 8: his name is Clip Clop and he loves sugar.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: Lisa, we love you and we're not trying to put
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: any pressure on you.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: Aww.
- 1:00:24Speaker 7: Lick it. Lick it.
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: No!
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: Oh, no!
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: Our daughter's run away on Christmas Eve!
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: More sugar, please!
- 1:00:39Speaker 8: Bag's in the kitchen.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: All right!
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: What I did also like about this was that this
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: has been one of those recurring story themes that continues
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: on every Christmas Lisa Wants a Pony. So it makes
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: sense that they would be offering her a pony because
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: that's like the one thing that Lisa wants for Christmas.
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: So if we're going to convert it back, it's going
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: to be a pony. She runs away to the Buddhist temple.
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: She interrupts them meditating, even though he's about to achieve enlightenment.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: And this is just basically the same as the end
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: of Lisa the Vegetarian when she goes into the top
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: of the quickie mart.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: My family tried to trick me into celebrating Christmas.
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: You know, we are meditating.
- 1:01:21Speaker 6: Oh, sorry.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: That's all right. I was only about to achieve enlightenment.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: But who'd want that?
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: Who likes short shorts?
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: I like short shorts. Those guys are way off. Anyway,
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: your family didn't have to trick you. Buddhists respect the
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: diversity of other religions, as long as they're based on
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: love and compassion. What? It's true. So why don't you
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: go home? I'm sure your family really misses you.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: I can really celebrate Christmas?
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: You can celebrate any holiday. And you know... My birthday
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: is August 31st.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: Oh, I'll send you an email greeting card.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: Sweet.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Now I really should be getting back to my family.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm spending tonight with my stepdaughter, Hannah. I do
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: her hair, then she does mine.
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: We're going to go spend Christmas with Mo, you know,
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: so we don't have one of his Christmas accidents.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: Hey, you can't do much without this.
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: Richard Gere in this, I know I said he was dull,
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: but he did come across very cool, like just a
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: very down-to-earth cool guy, you know, don't you think? Just
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: very chill.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: Oh, I think so.
- 1:02:20Speaker 6: I guess, you know? Is that what he's like in
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: real life? Is he just a chill guy? Apparently.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: I mean, I think the thing about Richard Gere, his
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: whole sort of... His free-to-bet stance, because he was very
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: vocal about it. I don't think it's done him any
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: favours because... Really? He's gone on the record and said,
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: they won't cast me in Marvel movies because Marvel makes
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: a lot of its money out of China. And I've
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: been very anti-China in the past. So, I mean... He says,
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: I won't be cast in sort of big blockbusters because
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: they don't like me in China and Hollywood's making a
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: lot of money in China. Luckily, you know, he sort
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: of made his money beforehand so he can basically go,
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: see ya. Yeah, I think he's a fairly laid-back individual.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: He certainly strikes me that way. I mean, having said that,
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: I don't know that many sort of uptight Buddhists, but
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: I don't know that many Buddhists.
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: I don't know a single Buddhist. LAUGHTER So Lisa's very
- 1:03:12Speaker 6: happy by the news. She's going to send Rich a
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: birthday e-card. Is that what she says? An e-greeting card
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: or something? Like an email? I think so, yeah. What's
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: the whole deal with doing his hair with his stepdaughter, Hannah?
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: Is there a joke there that I'm missing or is
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: it just.
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: I think it was probably just like he's got lovely
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: flowing hair or something. Maybe he wanted to give a
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: shout out to his stepdaughter, Hannah or something.
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: This next joke, I was just like, we're going to
- 1:03:39Speaker 6: go visit Moe who doesn't have another Christmas accident. I'm like, Whoa. Okay.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: Yeah, no, but Mo's sort of depression and morose worldview
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: was always very, very funny.
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: Yeah, but it didn't need the noose. It just felt
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: like I got the joke the first time. You didn't
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: have to hold up a noose. Yeah. The family then
- 1:03:59Speaker 6: gathered at home. I've got here. So she says, maybe
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: we should call the police. So wait a minute. So
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: fucking it was Christmas Eve when Lisa ran out the door.
- 1:04:07Speaker 6: What the hell has she been doing all night? Because
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: she comes back during the day. And what have the
- 1:04:10Speaker 6: family been doing all night? They've been out all night
- 1:04:12Speaker 6: looking for Lisa? Like, what the fuck? Lisa's been out
- 1:04:15Speaker 6: all night?
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: I don't know, man.
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: Terrible. I don't know. Or maybe she got back early
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: and didn't tell them? I don't know. I'm just like,
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: so Lisa's now asleep in the living room. I'm like,
- 1:04:27Speaker 6: when did she get back? Where have they been all night?
- 1:04:30Speaker 6: Doesn't matter.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: I did not think about this at all. No.
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: She mentions how she's still Buddhist, but she's going to
- 1:04:38Speaker 6: accept their beliefs. And a really nice line from Marge here.
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: I'll pray for the both of us. Very Marge. Yeah.
- 1:04:46Speaker 6: And then she still wants the pony. And Marge just
- 1:04:49Speaker 6: completely ignores her. And thus is the end of the episode.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Trying to talk the way out of it, but no dice.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: I mean, I think Lisa's going to be keeping on
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: with that one for a little while. And it all
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: rounds out. with a very harmonious, sitar-heavy rendition of the
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: Simpsons theme over the closing credits.
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: It always feels a little bit more special when they
- 1:05:07Speaker 6: have the outros, a different sort of version of the
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: theme music, yeah. But yeah, I thought this was a
- 1:05:14Speaker 6: nice story. Kind of jumbled in the sense that the
- 1:05:20Speaker 6: whole commercialization of religion just sort of disappeared mid-episode. It
- 1:05:24Speaker 6: was just like, yeah, well, we're done with that, and
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: now it's time for a Christmas story. I was like,
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: I don't know. This could have been... an episode without
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: needing to be at Christmas time, I guess, you know?
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: I think so, yeah.
- 1:05:35Speaker 6: They kind of tied Christmas into it with them trying
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: to use Christmas as a way to sway her back,
- 1:05:40Speaker 6: but I don't know. It didn't feel, of all the
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: Christmas episodes, this felt the least Christmassy to me.
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Look, I mean, the way you led into
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: this episode of Four Finger Discount talking about that, it's
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: a Christmas episode. I'm like, yeah, I guess it was.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: I mean, but... It certainly didn't feel that way to me,
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: despite all the Christmas trappings at the very end. I mean,
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: if you didn't tell me this was the annual Simpsons
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: Christmas episode, I would just say, honestly, when all the
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: Christmas stuff sort of started showing up, I really thought,
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: are they pulling, like, a psych on Lisa, like a
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: mind game or something? You know, like, guess what? It's
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: Christmas already. It's not Christmas. It's August.
- 1:06:20Speaker 6: Richard Gere's a triple threat.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Yeah, so... Yeah, it didn't really feel like very, you know,
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: peace on earth and goodwill to all men or anything
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: like that. It just felt like, okay, now it's got
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: Christmas in it. Yeah, I mean, look, I didn't dislike
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: this episode. I won't say I was laughing too much.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: I got a few sort of, you know, wry smiles
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: and a few chuckles here and there. And I liked
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: the Buddhism aspect of it. And I liked how it
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: was sort of, you know, not beating her over the
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: head with like, this is the best religion. You know,
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: everyone should be following this shit. It was more like,
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: I don't know. Here's some interesting ideas you might want
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: to check out.
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: I do think this was the least season 13-y of
- 1:06:58Speaker 6: the season so far. There was nothing here... Because the
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: episodes we've done... Hakaga Burns and Love, I really enjoy.
- 1:07:04Speaker 6: But I feel like the other ones have sort of
- 1:07:06Speaker 6: felt like a bunch of shit that was just thrown
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: together and they've tried to sort of make it all work.
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: This one didn't feel like that as much. At least...
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: You know, you had the rocket, but at least the
- 1:07:15Speaker 6: rocket led to the church burning down. So at least
- 1:07:18Speaker 6: all was one continuing story. It wasn't just sort of
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: all over the place. I know that we said that
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: the commercialization of church sort of stopped, but at least
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: that sort of merged into the Lisa story with her religion.
- 1:07:29Speaker 6: So in that sense, it felt a lot more grounded
- 1:07:32Speaker 6: than what's become a very wacky era of The Simpsons.
- 1:07:35Speaker 6: And I did enjoy the episode. It's just when I
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: read it, it's the Christmas episode. I want Christmas and
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: I didn't get Christmas. Yeah.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: You got a lump of coal in your stocking, essentially.
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: Yes, but still, I think Richard Gere's performance was... I
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: know I said the word dull, but the more I
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: look at the review, the more I drew the review,
- 1:07:53Speaker 6: it was perfect for what it needed to be. You know,
- 1:07:56Speaker 6: he's a Buddhist. So, yeah, a thumbs up. I did
- 1:07:59Speaker 6: enjoy this episode.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: What did we learn, Palmer?
- 1:08:03Speaker 6: So what did you learn from She of Little Faith, Mr. Davis?
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: I learned a lot about Buddhism, actually. Well, not a
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: whole lot, but enough that I would kind of go...
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: I should probably read a bit more about it.
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: Which means the episode served its purpose.
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: It did, yeah. I mean, look, the main thing I
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: took away from Lisa the Vegetarian is the line, this
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: is lamb, not a lamb, which I use all the time.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: What I took away from this episode, I didn't take
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: away any things about vegetarianism or veganism or anything like that. Although,
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: in all honesty, one probably should eat less meat. What
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: I learned from this episode was, yeah, just a good
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: sort of entry-level primer on the tenets of Buddhism. And
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: I found that pleasant and intriguing. How about yourself?
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: I learned that if you ever feel like you have
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: too many children, just eat some of them.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Watch out, Holly.
- 1:08:54Speaker 7: From this day forward, your names will be.
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: New names for this week, Sheev. Faithfuls today. But before
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: you do that, let's run through the new name leaderboard.
- 1:09:04Speaker 6: I shall just get it up.
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: Alrighty.
- 1:09:06Speaker 6: So, in third position, we have Andrew Palacati and Keith Nedham.
- 1:09:11Speaker 6: In second position, on four points, Mark Boston Burgess. And
- 1:09:15Speaker 6: in first position, both on six points, Geroad Harrahill and
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: Philip Phil Hawkins. Take it away, sir. What are the
- 1:09:23Speaker 6: notable mentions this week?
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: A couple of honourable mentions before we get into Un
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Deux Trois. One, two, three. I think the appearance of
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: the Buddha and Buddhism in this episode gave a lot
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: of opportunity for good wordplay. And as we've noticed with
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: Dave Abbotsmith giving us, I can't believe it's not Buddha.
- 1:09:44Speaker 6: That's very good. I like it. Yeah.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: And one that I like from our man Neil Parks,
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: Faith Off 2, Electric Buddha Lou.
- 1:09:52Speaker 6: That's very good.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: There's a lot going on there, Neil. Both you and
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Dave are just shy of the 3-2-1, but a terrific,
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: honourable effort by the both of you and by everyone
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: else who, of course, supplied new titles. But there can
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: be only three out of that. Who's getting one point?
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: I'll tell you who it is. It's Josh Hedge.
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: Josh Hedge. He's now on three points, so he's equal third.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: Indeed. Josh Hedge retitled this episode, The Grand Buddha Pest
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: Don't Tell.
- 1:10:26Speaker 6: Very good indeed. I like it.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: That's pretty good, Josh.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: That's not bad, is it? Now, two points go to
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Geroid Harrahill. Very apt. Richard Geroid Harrahill. Although I'm probably
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: mispronouncing Geroid, so my apologies.
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: That's Geroid.
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: But Geroid gave us a really good one, actually, and
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: I had to do a little bit of research into this.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: I had to do a bit of sort of Google
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: translating kind of deal, but it was worth it because
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: what he put up on the board was like a
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: little symbol. When I looked that up, it's a symbol
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: for Om, the Buddhism kind of... I don't know, mantra
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: or whatever.
- 1:11:06Speaker 6: That's from Across the Universe, a Beatles song, right? Nothing's
- 1:11:10Speaker 6: going to change our world.
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Yeah. That kind of deal. I mean, Gear gave us, oh,
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: my God, oh, my God, oh, my God, because as
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: Homer says it occasionally.
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: Oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God. Oh, yeah? Yeah.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: Gear puts the effort in. You know, props to Gear.
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: But he didn't get three points this time around.
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: Who did?
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: Tell me. I'll tell you who did. Right after this.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: It's June Richards.
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: Oh, June fucking Richards.
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: Excuse me?
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: Apparently it's June fucking Richards. I believe that's the name. Funky? Fucking.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: June fucking Richards.
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: That's their stage name.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: This is new to me.
- 1:11:57Speaker 6: This is new to me.
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: It is.
- 1:11:59Speaker 6: We'll get it right. Hang on, hang on. It is
- 1:12:01Speaker 6: the iconic June fucking Richards. That is their name.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: I stand corrected. The iconic June fucking Richards is atop
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: the winner's dais this time around with the simple but
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: effective coulda, shoulda, woulda.
- 1:12:16Speaker 6: Oh, that's very good. Well done, June.
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: It's not bad, is it? Nice one, June.
- 1:12:21Speaker 6: June's are new to the Patreon team, so straight off
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: the bat, there you go. Straight into the... Not quite
- 1:12:27Speaker 6: in third position, in fourth position, but three points.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: Well done.
- 1:12:30Speaker 6: Well played.
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: Announcing a presence with authority... Well done, June. So, yes,
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: they are the new titles for this time around for...
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: What's the episode?
- 1:12:42Speaker 6: She of Little Faith.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: She of Little Faith. That's right. These ones are so
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: much better that I forgot the original title.
- 1:12:49Speaker 6: So, in third position, we still have Mark Boston Burgess
- 1:12:52Speaker 6: on four. In second position, Phil Hawkins on six. And
- 1:12:55Speaker 6: Geroad Harrahill, our top leaderboard, on eight points. Still very,
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: very close. We've got... The Iconic Jew, Funky Richards, Josh Hedge,
- 1:13:01Speaker 6: Keith Nedham, and Andrew Palacetti all on three points in
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: four positions. So they're all... Everyone's close. So it's very,
- 1:13:07Speaker 6: very good. I like it when it's a lot more closer.
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: All righty, guys. So stick around. It's now time for...
- 1:13:13Speaker 6: The mail!
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: The mail is here!
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Woo!
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: The mail! The mail is here. All right, Mr.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: Davis.
- 1:13:18Speaker 6: We've got a few questions sent in this week. First
- 1:13:20Speaker 6: one here comes from Andrew Palacetti. He seems to be
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: always Andrew Palacetti. He's always first off the rank when
- 1:13:25Speaker 6: it comes to the mailbag. He's hanging around for your
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: posts in the Patreon group. He's so curious, Andrew. What
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: do you want to know? His first question is, which
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: famous 80s, 90s era actor would you like to see
- 1:13:36Speaker 6: make a comeback? Take it away, Grant Avis.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: Look, it's not a tough one to answer, but I mean,
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: my answer for it may seem a bit odd because
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: they're actually no longer with us. But I was always
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: hoping that Luke Perry would make a bit of a comeback.
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: I really dug his style when he was on 90210
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: back in the day. I liked the movies that he
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: made when, you know, people realised, oh, this guy's got
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: a bit of presence. And he sort of appeared in
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: weird sort of arty, unexpected projects. I mean, he was
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: in the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie. Oh, okay. Yeah,
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: sort of playing the damsel in distress, you know, to
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: Christy Swanson's Buffy. And he was really fun in that.
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: This is a guy who probably could have written his
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: own ticket at that stage and, you know, been in
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: action movies or whatever. But he's like, oh, no, I'll
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: try a few different things. And then he sort of
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: vanished off the radar for a little while, you know,
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: as teen idols tend to do. But when he made
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: his comeback in the show Riverdale, again, it was like
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: I was talking before about that whole actors sort of
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: start to relax as they get a bit older and realise,
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: I've got this in the toolkit and this, and, you know,
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: I don't need to work so hard. You know, I
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: do a little bit and people will come to me.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: He was aware of that, I think, and he just
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: had a good sort of chilled style in Riverdale. And
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: then he had his bit part... in Tarantino's Once Upon
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: a Time in Hollywood. And listeners who have heard you
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: and I and Mitch talking about that movie on previous
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: episodes or previous shows, they'll remember that I was so
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: happy to see Luke Perry land a gig in a
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: Tarantino movie. I just thought that was so rad for him.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: And you heard all the stories behind the scenes about
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: how DiCaprio and Pitt, the biggest stars in the world,
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: were all just stoked that Luke Perry was there, and
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: they were a little starstruck. I thought that was just
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: so neat, and it's a shame that Luke Perry left
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: us as quickly, as early as he did, because I
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: think he would have aged quite nicely into, you know,
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: I don't think he would have been a megastar again,
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: but I think he would have worked consistently, I think
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: he would have worked with interesting people, and I think
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: he would have had a really neat kind of second act,
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: so to speak. So, I don't know, he's the one
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: who sort of leaps out at me, even though he's
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: not really even though he's not here anymore.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 1:15:48Speaker 6: His son is now my favorite pro wrestler. Legitimately junk.
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: What is he called?
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: Jungle boy, jungle boy, Jack Perry. Fuck me. He's going
- 1:15:54Speaker 6: to be a massive star. Oh, it's going to be
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: fucking huge. He's, he's, his entrance theme is now Tarzan boy.
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: I heard that.
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: Oh, so the cattle sings along, mate. Holy shit. It's
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: going to be so good. Like he's, he's only like
- 1:16:08Speaker 6: 22 or something, but he's got, he's got Luke's looks
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: and he's got Luke sort of, you know how Luke
- 1:16:13Speaker 6: always come across like very mellow, very chill, So he's
- 1:16:16Speaker 6: got very similar traits, but he's a really good pro wrestler.
- 1:16:19Speaker 6: He's obviously still young, so he's got room to improve,
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: but he's going to be a massive star. But he's
- 1:16:24Speaker 6: just such a likable kid. Juggaboy Jack Perry, get on
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: that bandwagon, man. He's going to be huge.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: Oh, that's great. Actually, sorry. I'm sorry to interrupt, but
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: there's one other. I guess 90s was probably his thing,
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: and he was in the wilderness for a while, but
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: he's on the way back now, is Wesley Snipes.
- 1:16:43Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: He was in comedy recently, wasn't he?
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: He's in Coming to America, the sequel to Coming to America,
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: which isn't great.
- 1:16:55Speaker 6: I've heard not very good things.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: There's a lot of nostalgia in it that's kind of
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: fun and nice, but the story is really just kind
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: of weak. I spent a fair bit of time on
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: social media the other day talking to like-minded nerds about
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: You know, I wish they'd done this instead. Or, you know,
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: here's a way they could have gone. It could have
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: been more interesting. But I think everyone agrees, like, oh,
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: Wesley Snipes is in it, and he's so awesome. And
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: he really is. He's very, very funny. He works well
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: with Eddie. I mean, it's like, just Netflix, you know,
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: this is money lying on the ground. Just make, like,
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: five buddy comedies with Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes. I
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: will fucking watch all of them. I will upgrade my
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: Netflix deal or whatever. Just do that. You know, so.
- 1:17:42Speaker 6: Money like a grand, I love that.
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: Wesley Snipes, he's back, baby.
- 1:17:47Speaker 6: I've just looked at our running time for the card.
- 1:17:50Speaker 6: We've got four minutes left. Do we have time to
- 1:17:52Speaker 6: sneak in one more question? Let's do it. Let's try
- 1:17:53Speaker 6: and cram one more in, shall we?
- 1:17:55Speaker 2: Let's do it and I'll try to talk so much. Sorry.
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: Okay, so last question here.
- 1:18:02Speaker 7: Nora.
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: Now, is it Nora Cocker or Nora Coker?
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: I'm going to say Coker.
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: And she'll probably... get in our faces and say, that
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: is not how you pronounce it. And then she'll be
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: upset because I used that accent.
- 1:18:16Speaker 6: This is a question you said you might not have
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: an answer for, but it's basically, she says, what mostly
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: permanent changes to the characters do you think worked best
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: and what didn't? She watched this episode and realized how
- 1:18:24Speaker 6: surprised she was that it took until season 13 for
- 1:18:27Speaker 6: Lisa to become a Buddhist. She's also a little surprised
- 1:18:29Speaker 6: watching season five and six and realizing that Lisa's still
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: not a vegetarian yet. I do agree with that. I
- 1:18:33Speaker 6: do think it's kind of jarring when you watch the
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: early Simpsons and see her eating meat. It's like, oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: She wasn't a vegetarian until like season seven or season
- 1:18:39Speaker 6: six or whatever. I think the character of Barney becoming
- 1:18:43Speaker 6: sober didn't work. Didn't work.
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: Likewise. Yeah.
- 1:18:47Speaker 6: That's the one for me if you think of ones
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: that didn't work that's the one that stands out to
- 1:18:50Speaker 6: me because his whole humour came from the fact that
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: he was like the town drunk you know the stereotypical
- 1:18:57Speaker 6: drunk and once you take that aspect away from him
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: it's like what has he got.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: Yeah he's just a a barfly who doesn't drink.
- 1:19:04Speaker 6: Yeah and he sort of feels uncomfortable being with his
- 1:19:06Speaker 6: friends it's just like I don't know Yeah. So that
- 1:19:10Speaker 6: for me is the one that I do think Lisa
- 1:19:12Speaker 6: becoming vegetarian is the one that worked the best for sure.
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: I am 100% in agreement with you on that. Lisa's
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: changes have worked. Barney's change did not work.
- 1:19:21Speaker 6: Yeah, not at all.
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: Alrighty, guys.
- 1:19:23Speaker 6: Thank you for sending in your mailbag questions. We're sorry
- 1:19:25Speaker 6: we didn't get to too many of them this week,
- 1:19:27Speaker 6: but we are running out of time. I hope you
- 1:19:29Speaker 6: enjoyed our review of She of Little Faith. Next week,
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: we're going to be doing a review on the episode called,
- 1:19:33Speaker 6: I believe it's Brawl in the Family. Another episode that
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: I don't have too many memories of. So I believe
- 1:19:38Speaker 6: this is definitely have to have been the time where
- 1:19:41Speaker 6: I stopped watching The Simpsons every week because I know
- 1:19:45Speaker 6: I've watched this episode, but I have no recollection of it.
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: So maybe I've watched these episodes, but I just went, Yeah,
- 1:19:50Speaker 6: I don't need to watch that one again. But, you know,
- 1:19:53Speaker 6: I do look forward to watching it. It's a brawl
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: in the family. I'm not even going to read the synopsis.
- 1:19:56Speaker 6: I just want to go in fresh and just see
- 1:19:59Speaker 6: whether I enjoy it. See whether it entertains me.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: Do it.
- 1:20:01Speaker 6: Don't forget, guys, to rate and review us in the
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: iTunes store. We appreciate everyone who's already taken the time
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: to do so. Chucked us five stars and left a
- 1:20:07Speaker 6: few kind words. If you haven't done it yet, please do.
- 1:20:10Speaker 6: I do read all the reviews and it is, as
- 1:20:12Speaker 6: I said, much appreciated. If you want this show a

- 1:20:40Speaker 6: chill listeners?
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: These words are more for you, Dando.
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: Hmm?
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: Baking up that sausage, boy.
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: That's delightful.
