Wildfire Near Hoopa Forces Highway Closure | Eureka News
A wildfire erupted near mile marker 18 on California’s Highway 96 in Hoopa, burning about 50 acres by Friday night and prompting a full road closure. Firefighters are battling the blaze with aerial support, water trucks, and ground crews, aided by the fact that the fire is moving toward an area scorched by last year’s Mile Post Fire—meaning less fuel to burn. Caltrans confirmed the closure between miles 15.5 and 19.5 in Humboldt County, with Dowd Road as a potential detour. Authorities are monitoring closely as conditions evolve.
