- 0:13Speaker 3: Welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I'm your host, Daisy Kent, and today we're talking to
- 0:18Speaker 2: a sorority rush expert known as bid Bible, also known
- 0:22Speaker 2: as Abby Sky. She's here to give us the lowdown
- 0:25Speaker 2: on everything you need to know about your social media
- 0:27Speaker 2: presence before you rush. So let's welcome Abby in. Hi, Hi, Abby,
- 0:33Speaker 2: thanks for coming on.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Yeah, Chris, thanks so much for inviting me. How are you?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Of course I was like looking through your Instagram. I'm
- 0:41Speaker 2: excited to chat about all what you do.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yeah know me too, Oh my gosh. And my sister
- 0:47Speaker 1: absolutely loves Gia. And of course I saw your season.
- 0:50Speaker 4: I saw you Jamison's a while ago.
- 0:55Speaker 3: That's so cute.
- 0:56Speaker 2: And you went to Kappa Gamma or you were in
- 0:59Speaker 2: kabakap game at.
- 1:00Speaker 4: USC right, yeah, exactly awesome.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Are you when did you graduate or are you still
- 1:05Speaker 3: in school?
- 1:06Speaker 1: No?
- 1:06Speaker 4: I graduated two years ago.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Two years ago, Okay, that's what I rushed. Yeah, okay cool.
- 1:11Speaker 3: And did you throw or did you hold.
- 1:12Speaker 1: A position on exact No, it didn't, but I got
- 1:16Speaker 1: to see all the behind the scenes, you know, because
- 1:18Speaker 1: you were in a sorority and so did you.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Hold a position?
- 1:22Speaker 3: Yeah? I was paneletic.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Okay, oh wow, okay, the whole thing. Yeah.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Well it was like I was like the panelmic
- 1:29Speaker 2: person for my sorority. So I wasn't like on on
- 1:32Speaker 2: like paneltic with the school, but I would just go
- 1:34Speaker 2: to all the panelytic meetings. I had to like know everything.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, no, it's a lot. So that's how did you.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Start doing like what you're doing?
- 1:45Speaker 4: Yeah, oh my gosh.
- 1:47Speaker 1: It started back when I rushed my first time my
- 1:51Speaker 1: sophomore year at USC.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And I didn't know anything going into it. I mean
- 1:57Speaker 1: despite having a mom, a dad, and aunest and uncles
- 2:00Speaker 1: all were in Greek. But they kind of just told
- 2:04Speaker 1: me I have fun with it. And actually my mom
- 2:07Speaker 1: was the one who's like, maybe.
- 2:07Speaker 4: You should prep but I was like, no, no, I
- 2:10Speaker 4: don't really know why right good.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I was like, it's a social club, like are
- 2:15Speaker 1: and I just supposed to talk. So yeah, and so
- 2:20Speaker 1: my best friend and I went into it and we
- 2:24Speaker 1: thought we had great conversations. Everything seemed sweet and normal,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and especially myself being a very involved high school student.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I was student body president. I was very confident because
- 2:39Speaker 1: of all these things. So I was like, Okay, I
- 2:40Speaker 1: think like that went well. And you know, naturally, after
- 2:46Speaker 1: you go through that first day, you're like, oh, I
- 2:47Speaker 1: really loved certain houses over others. Yeah, and so yeah,
- 2:52Speaker 1: completely fell in love already. But the next morning I
- 2:56Speaker 1: looked at my schedule and I was like, what happened.
- 3:01Speaker 1: All of my top houses had dropped me. Yeah, so
- 3:07Speaker 1: I was left with the houses that I just feel
- 3:10Speaker 1: like I did not resonate.
- 3:11Speaker 3: With at all.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And so yeah, and I thought, okay, I am going
- 3:17Speaker 1: to drop out this completely this time. I don't think
- 3:21Speaker 1: I could even see it through, because it's really heartbreaking
- 3:25Speaker 1: I think when something like that happens, because oh.
- 3:27Speaker 2: For sure, I remember one of my friends I met
- 3:30Speaker 2: early on like got dropped from all of the houses
- 3:32Speaker 2: that she wanted to be in, and she was like devastated.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Yeah no, and you take it so personally too. I
- 3:38Speaker 1: think it's just really sad and so yeah, I and
- 3:43Speaker 1: the same thing actually happened to my best friend at
- 3:46Speaker 1: the time, So yeah, it was nice to at least
- 3:48Speaker 1: have that to go through it together.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 1: But that next year I just decided, Okay, like I
- 3:56Speaker 1: think I need to actually prepare this time.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Yeah, and I tried to see, Okay, what could it
- 4:03Speaker 4: have been. What were the differences over.
- 4:04Speaker 1: The gaps, and so yeah, I noticed like one for
- 4:09Speaker 1: sure was a very curated instagram.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Yeah, and yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 1: So I was like, Okay to my best friend, I'm like,
- 4:17Speaker 1: we have to we have to take pictures of all
- 4:21Speaker 1: the fun that we have because we are just you know,
- 4:24Speaker 1: hanging out all the time doing these fun things. But
- 4:27Speaker 1: I think we just weren't super big on it.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I guess, yeah, for sure.
- 4:31Speaker 2: I mean also like I feel like if you're having
- 4:34Speaker 2: fun with like your best friend, like a lot of
- 4:36Speaker 2: times you don't think to take a photo.
- 4:38Speaker 3: But it's a mindset. Now I feel like, oh my gosh.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like I just say, it's more than fun now.
- 4:45Speaker 4: I feel like it's all a.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Personal brand really because it spills into all these other
- 4:51Speaker 1: areas of life. And so I guess it. We were like, okay,
- 4:55Speaker 1: we we should do this for sure. So yeah, then
- 5:00Speaker 1: the next time, you rushed much more prepared curated instagrams.
- 5:06Speaker 4: And we both got into some of our top houses.
- 5:09Speaker 4: So it was yeah, like full circle moment.
- 5:12Speaker 1: It was great, and I ended up helping a bunch
- 5:16Speaker 1: of my other family friends, my sister, my cousins, because
- 5:22Speaker 1: I really empathize with you know, girls going into this
- 5:26Speaker 1: for the first time. I mean, you know how it
- 5:29Speaker 1: is just that fifteen minutes.
- 5:31Speaker 3: You have scary, so scary.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so scary, and there's a billion girls talking
- 5:36Speaker 1: over each other, and you know you've.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Been up since five am.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Literally it's nuts. And like you said to the rejection,
- 5:44Speaker 3: like that feeling is crazy too.
- 5:47Speaker 4: And then you've got to go in again like gonna mean,
- 5:50Speaker 4: it's like I don't it's it's crazy to do this
- 5:53Speaker 4: multiple days in a row. Yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Yeah, So that's why I decided, Okay, I kind of
- 5:59Speaker 1: want to start some with this because I see a
- 6:01Speaker 1: pattern of this working with people.
- 6:03Speaker 4: I love helping young girls.
- 6:04Speaker 3: You know, that's awesome. So tell me about the bikini
- 6:08Speaker 3: map that you made.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, Oh, it's so funny that you bring
- 6:14Speaker 1: that up, because I was just explaining to a client
- 6:17Speaker 1: from the University of Arizona that they go really hard
- 6:22Speaker 1: with their bikini bits there, Like I couldn't find a
- 6:26Speaker 1: single active that doesn't have like multiple and a mom
- 6:31Speaker 1: was like, oh, how many should she post? That's such
- 6:37Speaker 1: a funny question, And I was like, could I come
- 6:40Speaker 1: up with some kind of.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Number for hers?
- 6:41Speaker 1: I was like, maybe every four pictures, like one, two,
- 6:46Speaker 1: three bikini.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Three bikini. That's so funny.
- 6:51Speaker 2: You kind of like look at the school that they're
- 6:53Speaker 2: going to and then base it on there.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Right exactly.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I just think that different regions, you know, there's a
- 6:59Speaker 1: different level of appropriateness, like over and actually, funny enough,
- 7:04Speaker 1: I actually went to San Diego State for my freshman year.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Okay, cool, Yeah, I know, like.
- 7:10Speaker 1: These West Coast schools, you know, they don't really care
- 7:14Speaker 1: about it. It's like encouraged mostly, and then over in
- 7:17Speaker 1: the South they're much more traditional, classic, and I say,
- 7:22Speaker 1: family friendly.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you say about like guy friends and
- 7:41Speaker 2: like boyfriends? Like if a girl has like posts or
- 7:44Speaker 2: a bunch of guys before she's.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Going, what do you say about that?
- 7:49Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 7:49Speaker 1: And that's also funny because apparently that became really controversial,
- 7:53Speaker 1: and I've been trying to mitigate that from spreading on
- 7:57Speaker 1: guide Talk because I'm like, oh my gosh, this has
- 8:01Speaker 1: gone fifty six percent male viewership, I'm scared, but no,
- 8:07Speaker 1: it's just like, so I just think if somebody has
- 8:13Speaker 1: like a ton of photos of her and her boyfriend
- 8:16Speaker 1: on there, or maybe like a whole highlight or to
- 8:19Speaker 1: dedicated to this, I think it's obviously that's so greaty
- 8:23Speaker 1: like that you have such a loving relationship and you
- 8:27Speaker 1: want to share that. But I just think about the
- 8:30Speaker 1: one unlucky person that you could end up getting rushed by.
- 8:35Speaker 1: And I had seen it myself back when I was
- 8:39Speaker 1: rushing girls, and so it's just something that I think
- 8:42Speaker 1: is not talked about or mentioned it all, Like I
- 8:46Speaker 1: couldn't find this kind of stuff anywhere about the realities
- 8:50Speaker 1: of rush. Yeah, And so that's why I'm trying to
- 8:53Speaker 1: do that for girls because I also think that when
- 8:58Speaker 1: I was personally rushing girls, I don't think it gives
- 9:01Speaker 1: off like the best perception if you have tons and tons, Yeah,
- 9:06Speaker 1: it's like, oh, like, is this girl really going to
- 9:09Speaker 1: put us first sometimes.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Or is going to view with the guys all the time? Yeah?
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's like the bonding really happens when you
- 9:17Speaker 1: guys spending time with each other, and so it's yeah,
- 9:21Speaker 1: not malicious at all.
- 9:23Speaker 4: And yeah, I hope that nobody takes it that way.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you think about also, like political figures
- 9:30Speaker 2: and like pop culture figures, do you think like unfollowing
- 9:35Speaker 2: them before rush people should do that or do you think.
- 9:38Speaker 3: They should keep them? What's your thoughts on that?
- 9:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh, I always just say to unfollow any of them,
- 9:46Speaker 1: just because again, like there's all types of political views
- 9:51Speaker 1: with all these girls. It's like I know that you know,
- 9:54Speaker 1: every house has their reputation and everything, but no, I
- 10:00Speaker 1: mean being in when you know there's all different types
- 10:02Speaker 1: of people in each sorority, and so I just think
- 10:06Speaker 1: that is something that would help them because my whole
- 10:10Speaker 1: job is to just increase their chances as much as possible,
- 10:14Speaker 1: and like, so I just think that they should keep
- 10:16Speaker 1: that out of friendships anyways too.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure, I agree that makes sense.
- 10:20Speaker 2: And what about like having family pictures or having too
- 10:25Speaker 2: many solo pictures?
- 10:26Speaker 3: How do you tell people to like, oh you get
- 10:29Speaker 3: sat all in?
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, because it's funny. A lot of girls will
- 10:33Speaker 1: send me screenshots or just send me their instagrams, and
- 10:37Speaker 1: I do find Yeah, sometimes it's it's all selfies and stuff,
- 10:41Speaker 1: but that's just not giving a full picture yeah, I
- 10:45Speaker 1: think it's like.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, you're super pretty, but like, is there anything
- 10:48Speaker 4: else to you?
- 10:50Speaker 1: Can? We see that because after the conversations the recruiters,
- 10:55Speaker 1: they all go and behind and start scrolling through, you know,
- 11:00Speaker 1: just because curious what you're like outside of rush, because
- 11:04Speaker 1: as we said, you only get to know them for
- 11:07Speaker 1: so much.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Time, and yeah, it happens pretty quick. I'm curious because
- 11:12Speaker 2: you mentioned that, like the mom was asking you, like
- 11:14Speaker 2: what the girls should be posted when you're helping these
- 11:18Speaker 2: girls and like prepping them for recruitment.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Are a lot of the moms in like very involved.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Yes, some of them are very involved, and it's really sweet,
- 11:28Speaker 1: and I try to work with them both because you know,
- 11:32Speaker 1: sometimes I'm like, okay, let's make sure that your daughter
- 11:35Speaker 1: actually wants to do this too.
- 11:38Speaker 3: That she's not just that you just don't want.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Her to do Yeah, exactly exactly.
- 11:43Speaker 1: But yeah, they definitely are involved and surprisingly, actually, I
- 11:49Speaker 1: have found that it hasn't been this other moms.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Actually yeah, oh that's so interesting. And then what do
- 11:57Speaker 3: you think.
- 11:57Speaker 2: About like the following two follower ratio have you seen
- 12:01Speaker 2: like does that matter?
- 12:03Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 12:04Speaker 1: Yeah, actually had to go over this with somebody recently,
- 12:07Speaker 1: but I just think it may give off the impression
- 12:10Speaker 1: like we had we made our account way way long
- 12:14Speaker 1: time ago, and maybe when we were a bit younger,
- 12:15Speaker 1: we were following like every cute dog post that we
- 12:19Speaker 1: saw or something. Again, it's just all about it being
- 12:23Speaker 1: a personal brand, and so that is something that I
- 12:26Speaker 1: tell them, Okay, maybe we can just unfollow all those
- 12:29Speaker 1: spam accounts, just as some other kind of step to take.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Yeah, do you ever have like a client that comes
- 12:37Speaker 2: and they don't have a social media they have never
- 12:42Speaker 2: really been into social media, and like, do you think
- 12:46Speaker 2: it's definitely like important for them to have an Instagram?
- 12:48Speaker 3: Then?
- 12:48Speaker 1: Right?
- 12:49Speaker 4: Yeah, no, one hundred percent. Oh my gosh.
- 12:52Speaker 1: It's more to do than just the girls checking after conversations,
- 12:56Speaker 1: but also beforehand.
- 12:58Speaker 4: And yeah, I've had a couple.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Of girls who just don't really understand that, and so
- 13:04Speaker 1: I have to explain to them, and sometimes it takes
- 13:07Speaker 1: some convincing.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Actually I just like do it.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like I get it, Like some people just
- 13:13Speaker 1: whether that's their parents didn't allow them to have that.
- 13:15Speaker 4: I actually got.
- 13:16Speaker 1: An email one time from a dad who was so
- 13:20Speaker 1: concerned that he may have ruined her chances because he
- 13:24Speaker 1: didn't let her get on Instagram.
- 13:26Speaker 4: I was like, no, no, no, you're fine. Used to
- 13:28Speaker 4: have all summer.
- 13:30Speaker 1: But it does help, and it could even help with
- 13:34Speaker 1: dirty rushing, which is something that I encourage the girls
- 13:37Speaker 1: to do. Not be the ones to necessarily do the
- 13:40Speaker 1: reaching out. I actually tell them to do that, but
- 13:45Speaker 1: to receive messages and to just get on their radar
- 13:48Speaker 1: because end of the day, a lot of these girls
- 13:52Speaker 1: have the leg up. Whether that's them having already been
- 13:56Speaker 1: friends with a ton of the girls since they were
- 13:58Speaker 1: kids and maybe they know each other from growing up,
- 14:01Speaker 1: or if they were involved in a club and they
- 14:05Speaker 1: got that extra time, you know, to network for sure.
- 14:09Speaker 2: What's like if you could give a girl going through
- 14:13Speaker 2: recruitment or like about to go through recruitment, like one
- 14:16Speaker 2: piece of advice when it comes to social media, what
- 14:19Speaker 2: would you say?
- 14:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I would just say take the summer
- 14:25Speaker 1: to have the best time ever and to capture everything
- 14:31Speaker 1: and like anything that you can that's going to show
- 14:35Speaker 1: off your hobbies, show off what you like to do,
- 14:37Speaker 1: show off your friends and your outfits, because they all
- 14:42Speaker 1: like to do the same things like shopping and tanning
- 14:45Speaker 1: and match and plodes. But also you want to show
- 14:50Speaker 1: that you're unique, and so I always say, yeah, you
- 14:54Speaker 1: want to make it so that it's relatable to these girls,
- 14:57Speaker 1: and so it's like, Okay, she looks like she can,
- 15:01Speaker 1: you know, hang with us, and she'll get along with
- 15:03Speaker 1: these people because they have common interests.
- 15:07Speaker 4: But also to stand out.
- 15:11Speaker 1: And I guess even going a little further into that,
- 15:14Speaker 1: I tell girls, if you have some really cool special
- 15:18Speaker 1: hobby or if you just like let's say pasta like,
- 15:24Speaker 1: go ahead and start a TikTok page for that or something.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Just show off your interests and it's going to help
- 15:32Speaker 1: you a lot to stand out.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I love that, Okay, and let us know where can
- 15:38Speaker 2: everyone find you if they.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Want to get advice to you or want to work
- 15:42Speaker 3: with you.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just at bid Bible, on TikTok and Instagram,
- 15:48Speaker 1: but that's where you'll find, yeah, all of my nobs
- 15:52Speaker 1: rush tips.
- 15:54Speaker 3: I love that. Well, thank you so much for coming on.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Abby, Yeah, no, thank you so much for.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Of course, it was great to meet you, you too, Hie. Okay,
- 16:05Speaker 2: Well that was fun talking to Abby. I'm always so
- 16:08Speaker 2: interested to hear what these RUSH coaches do and their
- 16:12Speaker 2: outlook on it because I've talked to some really really
- 16:14Speaker 2: intense ones. I really liked how Abby seemed to be
- 16:17Speaker 2: more chill about it and just wants to kind of
- 16:19Speaker 2: help the girls. It's also crazy, though, how intense social
- 16:23Speaker 2: media has gotten, how that can play such a big
- 16:26Speaker 2: aspect of you getting into a sorority. But then at
- 16:32Speaker 2: the end of the day, I guess you only have
- 16:33Speaker 2: like five to fifteen minutes probably to talk to a girl.
- 16:37Speaker 2: So I mean, I even think about it, Like if
- 16:40Speaker 2: you meet a girl like somewhere like at the gym,
- 16:44Speaker 2: or like if you meet a new friend at the
- 16:46Speaker 2: bar or whatever, like the first thing I do is
- 16:48Speaker 2: go and look them up on social media. It's just
- 16:51Speaker 2: such a thing in like the era of life we
- 16:53Speaker 2: are right now. But yeah, you can check out Abby's
- 16:57Speaker 2: stuff and thank you guys for tuning in to Dirty Rush.
