That's at www.accidentalbiblescholar.com. We're continuing our study of Ephesians. We'll be wrapping it up in the next few podcasts. I don't know that we will today, but we've been talking about spiritual warfare. It's Jeff: It's been excellent. And today we're gonna dive into Randy: been excellent. And today we're gonna dive into Jeff: taking a look at us and the weapons offensive and defensive that we have. not yet. Not yet. Okay. The anticipation is killing me. Okay. Well, Randy, why don't I let you get started? Okay. So yeah, we're gonna if you've ever been in the military, one of the things we do is is we we study our equipment and ourselves and we understand it very well. We also underst understand and d study the Randy: taking a look at us and the weapons offensive and defensive that we have. not yet. Not yet. Okay. The anticipation is killing me. Okay. Well Randy, why don't I let you get started? Okay. So yeah, we're gonna if you've ever been in the military, one of the things we do is is we we study our equipment and ourselves and we understand it very well. We also underst understand and d study the Jeff: The other sides, the enemy stuff, right? We've talked a little bit about that. We'll talk about that more as we go talking about our enemy. But today I want to talk about ourselves and how we're made and how we interact with the spirit realm and how we interact with the physical realm. So again, two aspects, the seen and unseen of one creation. So if you don't mind, flip over to Psalms one thirty-nine, thirteen through fifteen. Randy: The other sides, the enemy stuff, right? We've talked a little bit about that. We'll talk about that more as we go talking about our enemy. But today I want to talk about ourselves and how we're made and how we interact with the spirit realm and how we interact with the physical realm. So again, two aspects, the seen and unseen of one creation. So if you don't mind, flip over to Psalms one thirty-nine, thirteen through fifteen. Jeff: And since this is the first lo I could have told you this ahead of time, but I forgot. One thirty-nine, verses thirteen through fifteen. Okay. Certainly you made my mind and heart. You wove me together in my mother's womb. I will give you thanks because your deeds are awesome and amazing. You knew me thoroughly. My bones were not hidden from you when I was made in secret and sewed together in the depths of the earth. So my point is this that we are complex creatures, magnificently designed. Randy: And since this is the first lo I could have told you this ahead of time, but I forgot. Jeff: We are actually three in one, center similar to the Trinity th himself or themselves, right? We're body, soul, and spirit. So and it's amazing as you go look through scripture how many threes there are. Mm-hmm. But but we're one of the threes. We have three parts. Okay. And I I wanted to start that off because I'm gonna c show us a model. I'm gonna describe it in words. Randy: We are actually three in one, center similar to the Trinity th himself or themselves, right? We're body, soul, and spirit. So and it's amazing as you go look through scripture how many threes there are. Mm-hmm. But but we're one of the threes. We have three parts. Okay. And I I wanted to start that off because I'm gonna c show us a model. I'm gonna describe it in words. Jeff: This model is like all models, it it's lacking if you dig too deep and it serves its purposes as long as you, you know, don't dig too deep. And there are different models for soul and spirit and body and I've used a bunch of different ones and a few different ones and there's different scriptures that would point you to one model or another. This one is taken out of Genesis two seven. Randy: This model is like all models, it it's lacking if you dig too deep and it serves its purposes as long as you, you know, don't dig too deep. And there are different models for soul and spirit and body, and I've used a bunch of different ones and a few different ones, and there's different scriptures that would point you to one model or another. This one is taken out of Genesis two seven. so anyway, we're gonna go there here here in just a second. But Jeff: so anyway, we're gonna go there in just a second. But Randy: and then when I I I hate to say it, but fifty, forty five to fifty years ago, I was listening to this this man who's a who's a a believer, who's also a psychiatrist, and he was talking about emotions, how different things work. And he's also talking about how our minds worked in regard to our thoughts. And so Jeff: And then I'll when I I I hate to say it, but fifty, forty five to fifty years ago, I was listening to this this man who's a who's a a believer, who's also a psychiatrist, and he was talking about emotions, how different things work. And he's also talking about how our minds worked in regard to our thoughts. And so I think there's something that that has benefited me for this whole time. I'll just tell you the first thing that benefited me out of it is not everything that goes through your mind comes from you. You know, you're engaged in the spirit realm. Randy: I think there's something that that has benefited me for this whole time. I'll just tell you the first thing that benefited me out of it is not everything that goes through your mind comes from you. You know, you're engaged in the spirit realm in your mind, and sometimes they're your thoughts, sometimes they're lies, sometimes it's the Holy Spirit. And it's up to us to discern and figure out h each of those. And that's where I was talking about the mind as a battlefield. Second Corinthians ten three through five talks about strongholds and talk about Jeff: in your mind and sometimes they're your thoughts, sometimes they're lies, sometimes it's the Holy Spirit. And it's up to us to discern and figure out each of those. And that's where I was talking about the mind is a battlefield. Second Corinthians ten, three through five talks about strongholds and talk about taking every thought to the obedience of Jesus Christ. So each of those is is important. So anyway, let's go to let me describe this model. If you want to flip to Genesis Randy: Taking every thought to the obedience of Jesus Christ. So each of those is is important. So anyway, let's go to let me describe this model. If you want to flip to Genesis 2, 7 and read that, and then I will describe the model so we can have it in our minds here. Okay. Jeff: two seven and read that and then I will describe the model so we can have it in our minds here. Okay. The Lord for the Lord God formed the man from the soil of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Okay, so everything else he smoked spoke into existence except man. Man he formed with his own hands. So he forms this man from the dust of the earth. That's the physical part. Randy: The Lord for the Lord God formed the man from the soil of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Okay, so everything else he smoked spoke into existence except man. Man he formed with his own hands. So he forms this man from the dust of the earth. That's the physical part. And then he breathes into it his spirit. Okay, and then Jeff: And then he breathes into it his spirit. Okay. And then It many versions say, and then he became a living soul. So that's kind of what this model is built off of, this three-part model. But let me describe it to you. well, let me say it this way too. You are a spirit who has a soul and lives in a body. Okay. but let's think about two circles. Randy: It many versions say, and then he became a living soul. So that's kind of what this model is built off of, this three part model. But let me describe it to you. well let me say it this way too. You are a spirit who has a soul and lives in a body. Okay. but let's think about two circles. Jeff: On the right, let's put a green circle. On the left, let's put a blue circle. Okay. So, and then let's take and move those circles together until the two circles, the blue one on the right, I mean the green one on the right, the blue one on the left, until they overlap about a third of the way. Okay, so then let's take a vertical line and place that vertical line through the intersections. Randy: On the right, let's put a green circle. On the left, let's put a blue circle. Okay. So, and then let's take and move those circles together until the two circles, the blue one on the right, I mean the green one on the right, the blue one on the left, until they overlap about a third of the way. Okay. So then let's take a vertical line and place that vertical line through the intersections. Jeff: At the top and the bottom where the two circles intersect where they cross, and that should be a vertical line. Okay, so you have that in your mind. A green circle on the right, blue circle on the left. They overlap with about a third, and then there's a line, a black line that's caught going down the middle that splits the intersections in two. Okay, so on the left side, the blue side is the unseen world, left side of this vertical line. Randy: At the top and the bottom where the two circles intersect where they cross, and that should be a vertical line. Okay, so you have that in your mind. A green circle on the right, blue circle on the left. They overlap with about a third, and then there's a line, a black line that's caught going down the middle that splits the intersections in two. Okay, so on the left side, the blue side is the unseen world, left side of this vertical line. Side is the seen world, okay, or the visible world and invisible world, or the spirit realm and the physical realm. But the Bible generally talks about it just nine realms, but is unseen and seen. So on the right we have the green scene, on the left we have the blue unseen. Let's talk about some characteristics of those. the first one is that in the the unseen realm is eternal. Jeff: Side is the seen world, okay, or the visible world and invisible world, or the spirit realm and the physical realm. But the Bible generally talks about it just nine realms, but is unseen and seen. So on the right we have the green scene, on the left we have the blue unseen. Let's talk about some characteristics of those. the first one is that in the the unseen realm is eternal. Okay, so I have written down there of eternal under the scene, it is temporary. Paul tells us that. I'll we'll read those verses, I believe, in a little bit later. Maybe we won't. you know, here it is. 2 Corinthians 4 18 talks about the unseen is eternal. Randy: Okay, so I have written down there of eternal under the scene, it is temporary. Paul tells us that. I'll we'll read those verses, I believe, in a little bit later. Maybe we won't. you know, here it is. 2 Corinthians 4 18 talks about the unseen is eternal. Jeff: And the scene is temporary. So there's a hierarchy of power there as well, because Hebrews 11 3 would tell us that everything we see came from what is unseen. So that sets the power in the origin. So I put here in the unseen is the source of the scene. It is all powerful. Okay. Over on the right hand side in the green, the scene is a product of the unseen. It is less powerful because it was created from what was unseen. Randy: And the scene is temporary. Jeff: And again, 2nd Corinthians 4 18, Hebrews eleven three is what I base that on. So that's that line going down the middle. If you go back to your two circles that are overlapping, the blue circle, let's put spirit. The right circle, let's put body or flesh. Okay. And in the overlapping, let's put the word soul. Okay. And let me describe each of those. I use the word body or flesh. When we and I are talking, we would probably talk about our body. But the Bible uses the word flesh a lot. Randy: And again, 2 Corinthians 4 18, Hebrews eleven three is what I base that on. Jeff: And a lot of times we have in our mind that that's you know moral, that's the that's the bad part of us, quote unquote. That there is no bad part of us because our spirit has been redeemed and we just have to bring the body into discipline. But that's a different thing, different story. We'll get to that here in just second. But but flesh Randy: And a lot of times we have in our mind that that's you know moral, that's the that's the bad part of us, quote unquote. That there is no bad part of us because our spirit has been redeemed and we just have to bring the body into discipline. But that's a different thing, different story. We'll get to that here in just second. But but flesh Jeff: doesn't always mean like fleshly ideas, maybe you would think, well, they're immoral ideas. Flesh at its basic root is is our body and specifically when you're talking about living according to the flesh, you're simply talking about living according to your five senses. Okay, and we'll get in more into that. So on the body side we got Randy: doesn't always mean like fleshly ideas may you would think well they're immoral ideas. Flesh at its basic root is is our body and specifically when you're talking about living according to the flesh you're simply talking about living according to your five senses. Okay, and we'll get in more into that. So on the body side we got Jeff: I put it's the five senses. we communicate with the seen world using those five senses. A lot of times we talk about our eyes or seeing. In general, if you're talking about that, you're really kind of talking about any of your five senses, perceiving with your five senses. These five senses input to our soul or our mind, and we'll talk about that here in just a second. But in our body we have appetites, we have desires. in Galatians five it talks about the works of the flesh. Randy: I put it's the five senses. we communicate with the seen world using those five senses. Jeff: In the body would be our brain, or in the flesh would be our brain. according to Romans twelve, we must it must be disciplined in other places we'll go look at it, but it we must discipline or subdue our body like an athlete who's training for a marathon or some some race. He will do. Biblically we'll see this as flesh is what it's generally doing. I it we got our five senses. Randy: In the body would be our brain, or in the flesh would be our brain. according to Romans twelve, we must it must be disciplined in other places we go look at it, but it we must discipline or subdue our body like an athlete who's training for a marathon or some some race. He will do. Biblically we'll see this as flesh is what it's generally doing. I it we got our five senses. Jeff: And I'll talk about some of the other things here in just a second. In the middle, that middle section, I got it in orange on mine, but you can picture I guess you can picture an orange. Is the mind, will, and emotions. So our mind is our intellect, it's our processor, if you will. Our will is our chooser, our decision maker. And our emotions is, well, it's our feeler, what we feel like in feelings. Our soul has to be renewed or our mind has to be renewed. That's Romans twelve two. And we'll talk about what the Randy: And I'll talk about some of the other things here in just a second. And we'll talk about what the Jeff: renewed mind does. Biblically, when you see the word mind, you'll generally the Bible's talking about your soul. Or will you talk about your soul. And then spirit. Over on the left side, the blue side is spirit. I put here, this is the real you. this is what gives us legal access in the spirit realm. And I didn't say this, but I've a couple of podcasts to talk about your body is what gives you legal access into the physical realm. Okay. Right. Randy: renewed mind does. Biblically, when you see the word mind, you'll generally the Bible's talking about your soul. Or will, you'll talk about your soul. And then spirit. Over on the left side, the blue side is spirit. I put here, this is the real you. this is what gives us legal access in the spirit realm. And I didn't say this, but a couple of podcasts talk about your body is what gives you legal access into the physical realm. Okay. Right. Jeff: If you don't have a body, a heart that's beaten, you no longer have authority on planet Earth. Okay. so back to the spirit. we communicate with God in the spirit realm through our spirit. Biblically, it'll be in many time in English, it's heart. Legal, literally in the Hebrew and the Greek, it's your kidneys or guts or belly. Randy: If you don't have a body, a heart that's beaten, you no longer have authority on planet Earth. Okay. so back to the spirit. we communicate with God in the spirit realm through our spirit. Biblically, it'll be in many time in English, it's heart. Legal, literally in the Hebrew and the Greek, it's your kidneys or guts or belly. Jeff: is is instead of heart. So when you see the word heart or you see the word belly, generally the new and the old testament are talking about your spirit. In the believer, this spirit is one with Christ. It's a new creation. It's fully redeemed. It's righteous. It's holy. According to First Corinthians two, we have the mind of Christ. I think that is resonant within our spirit. People would talk about intuition as being a kind of a sense, one of the senses that is in the spirit. Randy: is is instead of heart. Jeff: we have eyes and ears. You talked about your eyes being enlightened or your understanding being enlightened. Randy: we have eyes and ears. You talked about your eyes being enlightened or your understanding being enlightened. Jeff: When you hear the Bible say that, that's a spiritual it's it's a spiritual process or thing that it's talking about there. I've seen some people talk about senses in your spirit. I've seen some and I'll just list the five is faith, conscience, communion, discernment, and worship instead of sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch. That'd be our body. So th so we have spiritual senses as well that guys have helped us. People have helped us. So Randy: When you hear the Bible say that, that's a spiritual it's it's a spiritual process or thing that it's talking about there. So Jeff: Here's another thing that's kind of helpful, maybe a little bit, is like we experience pleasure in our body, we experience happiness in our soul, and we experience joy in our spirit. we praise generally, your body is involved with praise. your whole being probably is is involved, but mostly if we're worship, it's a spiritual thing. Jesus says that the that God is spirit and we must be worshiped in spirit. Randy: Here's another thing that's kind of helpful, maybe a little bit, is like we experience pleasure in our body, we experience happiness in our soul, and we experience joy in our spirit. we praise generally, your body is involved with praise. your whole being probably is is involved, but mostly if we're worship, it's a spiritual thing. Jesus says that the that God is spirit and we must be worshiped in spirit. Jeff: Praise involves your body. Worship, you can tell by looking at the body if the person's in worship. Worship would be a very quiet, not moving, face down, either kneeling or laying flat. That would be a picture of a of a person in worship. Very quiet, very meaningful, but not a lot going on as far as noise. Randy: Praise involves your body. Worship, you can tell by looking at the body if the person's in worship. Worship would be a very quiet, not moving, face down, either kneeling or laying flat. That would be a picture of a of a person in worship. Very quiet, very meaningful, but not a lot going on as far as noise. Jeff: Praise is dancing, raising of the hands. Now the body is fully moved. Dan you know, moving around, singing loudly. That would all that's all praise. There is a difference between praise and worship. for there. So our body is responsible for actions, of course. Our soul is where we know facts, and spirit is where we understand and where we have faith. faith would be would be there in our Randy: Praise is dancing, raising of the hands. Now the body is fully moved. Dan you know, moving around, singing loudly. That would all that's all praise. There is a difference between praise and worship. for there. So our body is responsible for actions, of course. Our soul is where we know facts, and spirit is where we understand and where we have faith. faith would be would be there in our Jeff: inner body. Let me catch up here just a little bit. Randy: Inner body. Let me catch up here just a little bit. Jeff: put here talking about your body, your body works for you. I think that's super important. Most people work for their body. Right. Their body's in charge. Their body has an urge. They they make sure it's taken care of. That's not what the Christian's body is supposed to be. Your body works for you. Okay. It's not the other way around. Randy: put here talking about your body, your body works for you. I think that's super important. Most people work for their body. Right. Their body's in charge. Their body has an urge. They they make sure it's taken care of. That's not what the Christian's body is supposed to be. Your body works for you. Okay. It's not the other way around. Jeff: Okay. Let's talk about a couple other things here. Originally, what was Adam originally? Here's what happened with Adam. He is fully engaged spiritually, he's fully engaged with his body. Something that if you haven't really thought about, he had his five senses. What he his five senses did is they interacted with the seen realm, the physical realm. Okay. but that's basically what they did. Randy: Okay. Jeff: But truth came through his spirit. Okay, he did he would have never gone looked at his five senses and his mind come up with something, go, okay, this is truth 'cause I I see this. but then when he sinned Randy: But truth came through his spirit. Okay, he did he would have never gone looked at his five senses and his mind come up with something, go, okay, this is truth 'cause I I see this. but then when he sinned Jeff: He did in fact die the moment he sinned. His spirit died and was cut off from God. So now he's kind of with a spirit that exists. It's not that it doesn't exist, it's just no longer in direct communion with God. And so now him and us, when we're born, we're in this body with five senses and a mind that's processing the five senses. And we get drugged down this path where now I'm going to define truth on what I see, hear, smell, touch, and feel. And that's just not. Randy: He did in fact die the moment he sinned. And that's just not Jeff: That seems foreign. That would have seemed absurd to original Adam. Okay, but now you and I come along and that's just the way it way it is. We're hungry as a little baby, we cry. You know, we need our pants changed, we cry. We start communicating. This whole world revolves around us. Randy: That seems foreign. That would have seemed absurd to original Adam. Okay, but now you and I come along and that's just the way it way it is. We're hungry as a little baby, we cry. You know, we need our pants changed, we cry. We start communicating. This whole world revolves around us. Jeff: Okay, this this whole world is about my five senses, it's about my appetites, and that my mind or soul gets joined with this flesh, this five senses, and that's how I interpret truth or reality. And in the Greek word that means reality or truth. They're the same thing for the Greek word that's in the New Testament there. Now we come along, we confess Jesus is Lord, we put our trust in him. Randy: Okay, this this whole world is about my five senses, it's about my appetites, and that my mind or soul gets joined with this flesh, this five senses, and that's how I interpret truth or reality. And in the Greek word that means reality or truth. They're the same thing for the Greek word that's in the New Testament there. Now we come along, we confess Jesus is Lord, we put our trust in him. Jeff: And now we are a new brand new creation. Our spirit is now reborn. It is comes to life. Okay. It is it is crucified, resurrected, and then ascended in all the things we've talked about. Now it's righteous and holy and all these things we talked about, but it's super immature. It's brand new. Well, now we have this mind that's totally trained to interact with the five senses and to get reality and truth from there. And now we have this spirit that awakens. Randy: And now we are a new brand new creation. Jeff: And we've got to now learn to to have our senses awakened within the spirit realm. And this would add a very basic sense, would be would be walking by the spirit or walking according to the flesh. And we'll look at some verses here in just a second to that. So this new Adam, you and I, after we become become Randy: And we've got to now learn to to have our senses awakened within the spirit realm. And this would add a very basic sense, would be would be walking by the spirit or walking according to the flesh. And we'll look at some verses here in just a second to that. So this new Adam, you and I, after we become become Jeff: born again, now we have to renew our mind. That's what Romans 12, too. We gotta take this mind that used to only deal with the five senses and used to sensing truth and coming up with reality from the five senses. We have to now kind of re renew our mind so that our mind is not doing that. Our mind is now looking to the spirit for truth. Randy: born again, now we have to renew our mind. That's what Romans 12, too. We gotta take this mind that used to only deal with the five senses and used to sensing truth and coming up with reality from the five senses. We have to now kind of re-renew our mind so that our mind is not doing that. Our mind is now looking to the spirit for truth. We interact and we we have facts in the physical realm. Jeff: We interact and we we have facts in the physical realm and we interact with the physical realm, but truth is now coming from the spirit realm, from God's word and from his Holy Spirit. Let me give you a quick example. This is one of the huge things when I'm talking about standing. Ephesians six ten through thirteen is going to tell us over and over that we're going to put this armor on so that we may stand in the evil day. Randy: And we interact with the physical realm, but truth is now coming from the spirit realm, from God's Word and from His Holy Spirit. Let me give you a quick example. And this is one of the huge things when I'm talking about standing. Ephesians 6 10 through 13 is going to tell us over and over that we're going to put this armor on so that we may stand in the evil day. Jeff: Okay, so this is standing. Let's say, let's put two things side by side. I'm gonna open my Bible to Philippians 4.19. And Philippians 4.19 says, says that God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. And on the other side, I have a bill that's unpaid. Randy: Okay, so this is standing. Let's say, let's put two things side by side. I'm gonna open my Bible to Philippians 4.19. And Philippians 4.19 says, says that God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. And on the other side, I have a bill that's unpaid. Jeff: And I got a checkbook that says zero in it. Okay. And I got a bill due. This is very basic, but what are you gonna do? Where which one of these things are true? And which one of these things you're gonna stand on? If you're still getting truth from what you see, you're gonna look at that bill and you're gonna go, Well, the truth is I got no money and I still got bills. The truth is my needs are not met. Okay. Randy: And I got a checkbook that says zero in it. Okay. Jeff: That's way the old way. The new way is now, okay, the truth is God has promised to meet all my needs. The facts are, as I look at it with my eyes, the facts are, well, I'm a little short. So as we take a look at that, this is the standing. I'm going to stand on God's promises. How do I ask activate that promise? Go to not go Randy: That's way the old way. The new way is now, okay, the truth is God has promised to meet all my needs. The facts are, as I look at it with my eyes, the facts are, well, I'm a little short. So as we take a look at that, this is the standing. I'm gonna stand on God's promises. How do I ax activate that promise? Go to s not go. Jeff: You but you can look up second Corinthians one twenty. What second Corinthians one twenty says that all the promises in Jesus Christ are yes. Randy: You but you can look up Second Corinthians one twenty. What Second Corinthians one twenty says that all the promises in Jesus Christ are yes. Jeff: But we add our amen or our so be it. Another thing is what he's saying is every promise is true. Every promise is God's will. Every promise is for us. But as long as it's locked up in this book on some page I've never turned to and I've never added my amen to it, then it just rests there. But I need to stay amen to Philippians 419 and stand on it. Randy: But we add our amen or our so be it. Another thing is what he's saying is every promise is true, every promise is God's will, every promise is for us. But as long as it's locked up in this book on some page I've never turned to and I've never added my amen to it, then it just rests there. But I need to stay amen to Philippians 419 and stand on it. Jeff: I've got these the breastprate, I've got the the belt of truth, righteousness, faith, all these things. I'm going to use those to stand on that truth and expect God to come through and answer my need of this bill. That's a very simple, basic, straightforward. But it should explain how what it means to walk according to the spirit, walk according to the flesh, or live by sight, or live by faith. Those are those are kind of some of the things that we'll talk about here in just a second. Randy: I've got these the breastprate, I've got the the belt of truth, righteousness, faith, all these things. I'm gonna use those to stand on that truth and expect God to come through and answer my need of this bill. That's a very simple, basic, straightforward. But it should explain how what it means to walk according to the spirit, walk according to the flesh, or live by sight, or live by faith. Those are those are kind of some of the things that we'll talk about here in just a second. Jeff: Would you say that giving, sometimes extravagantly giving, is a statement of I'll trust my spirit, the truth, that God'll meet my needs. Yeah. that's one way to declare or say amen to that event is God'll meet my needs. Yeah. So he's also telling me to give. I don't need to worry about the bill that's due that worries me. Mm-hmm. But Randy: Would you say that giving, sometimes extravagantly giving, is a statement of I'll trust my spirit, the truth, that God'll meet my needs. Yeah. that's one way to declare or say amen to that event is God'll meet my needs. Yeah. So he's also telling me to give. I don't need to worry about the bill that's due that worries me. Mm-hmm. But Jeff: Yeah, if he's told you to give, we give. Yeah. Right? Yep. That's that'd be walking by faith or walking according to the spirit. Yeah. Spirit, 'cause we have multiple truths. Malachi's three ten. We can go to Malachi three ten that says, if you will bring into the storehouse everything that is the Lord's, then he'll open the windows of heaven and pour out on you. where is it, Luke? Is it Luke excuse me, six thirty eight maybe? Jesus says, Those who give that it will be given unto them, pressed down, shaken, you know, really packed in so you get everything. Randy: Yeah, if he's told you to give, we give. Yeah. Right? Jeff: That's what he says about giving. Well, when we go to the shield of faith, we'll talk about s too is that the second part of Hebrews eleven one tells us that faith is seen. Randy: That's what he says about giving. Well, when we go to the shield of faith, we'll talk about two is that the second part of Hebrews 11 1 tells us that faith is seen. Jeff: Because faith is evidence of things not seen. Well, if something is evidence of things not seen, that evidence must be seen. So in other words, your giving is a visible seen act that we can look at your faith. James would say it here, faith without works is dead. I'll show you my faith by my works. That's what James would tell us, right? So it's that idea where a that that you can see your faith. Yeah. Okay. Randy: Because faith is evidence of things not seen. Yeah. Okay. Jeff: So we'll talk about more when we get to faith there in the shield of faith. But okay. Yeah. Anything else before we go on? Nope. Okay, so we have this being, you and I, that are spirit, soul, and body. Okay. And we've also been redeemed. and we have to train our body. We have to renew our mind. Let's go to a couple of verses now. Let's go to Romans eight, five through eight. You want to read that? Sure. Randy: So we'll talk about more when we get to faith there in the shield of faith. But okay. Sure. Jeff: For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit. For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace, because the outlook of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to the law of God, nor is it able to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Randy: For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the spirit. For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the spirit is life and peace, because the outlook of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to the law of God, nor is it able to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. All right. Walk according to the flesh, walk according to the spirit. That's what he's talking about. Jeff: Walk according to the flesh, walk according to the spirit. That's what he's talking about there. Randy: The flesh is he's not saying necessarily you go out and do a bunch of immoral acts. That's not what he's saying. He's saying that if you base your reality on your five senses, this is walking according to the flesh and you cannot please God. Why why cannot please God? In order you have to have faith to please God. That's Hebrews eleven six. Jeff: The flesh is he's not saying necessarily you go out and do a bunch of immoral acts. That's not what he's saying. He's saying that if you base your reality on your five senses, this is walking according to the flesh, and you cannot please God. Why why cannot please God? In order you have to have faith to please God. That's Hebrews eleven six. So if I've got a bill that I'm worried about or that that I've have due and I've got the word of God, if I walk according to f flesh, I go worry and and live in fear and whatever might come out of that, but I'm just it could be good even. Go get work more or something, get more hours at work or whatever and and as you look at it and you're just like I d I can't Randy: So if I've got a bill that I'm worried about or that that I've have due and I've got the word of God, if I walk according to f flesh, I go worry and and live in fear and whatever might come out of that, but I'm just it could be good even. Go get work more or something, get more hours at work or whatever and and as you look at it and you're just like, I d I can't Jeff: you know, you're all on what you see versus living by faith. And one ends in death and one ends in life. let's go to Galatians five, sixteen, seventeen, then we'll go through a little bit more, but when you get a chance. Galatians five, sixteen through seventeen. Randy: you know, you're all on what you see versus living by faith. And one ends in death and one ends in life. let's go to Galatians five, sixteen, seventeen, then we'll go through a little bit more, but when you get a chance. Galatians five, sixteen through seventeen. Jeff: All right, but I say live by the spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. For the flesh has desires that are opposed to the spirit, and the spirit has desires that are opposed to the flesh. For those are in opposition to each other, so that you cannot do what you want. Okay, so live by the spirit and you won't live by the flesh. That helps me a lot because I go, I'm not so much not living by the flesh as much as I am living by the spirit. Right. And the more I focus that, Randy: All right, but I say live by the spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. Right. And the more I focus that, Jeff: the living by the flesh bark just kind of falls to the wayside. Right. Right. So we want to be a believer is to be controlled from his spirit through his soul to his body. And when we do that, that leads to life. I put here the appetites and emotions don't set the agenda. So you're many people, their emotions will set the agenda. We'll talk about that here a little specifically in a minute. Or their appetites set the agenda. Randy: the living by the flesh bark just kind of falls to the wayside. Right. Jeff: All of our appetites I say all, I think all, all the ones I can think of are good. They're God given appetites. But they can be out of whack. Sex is an appetite. Sex was has a particular way it's to be expressed. eating, drinking, anything that we can do, these appetites of the of the flesh that that need to come under under the control. Let's see. Randy: All of our appetites, I say all, I think all, all the ones I can think of are good. They're God given appetites. But they can be out of whack. Sex is an appetite. Sex was has a particular way it's to be expressed. eating, drinking, anything that we can do, these appetites of the of the flesh that that need to come under under their control. Let's see. Jeff: In the realm or in the idea of your body works for you, let's go to first Corinthians chapter six. And we're gonna read several here. Let me think. Yeah. 12 through 13. Read first Corinthians six, twelve through thirteen. Okay. All things are lawful for me, but not everything is beneficial. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be controlled by anything. Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both. Randy: In the realm or in the idea of your body works for you, let's go to first Corinthians chapter six. Jeff: Okay, this is talking about bringing your appetites into subjection is what Paul is talking about here. and if you in your Bible probably every anything is lawful is a quote in quotes. That's what the Corinthians were saying. Well, I can do anything, right? He's like, okay, maybe everything's lawful, but not everything's beneficial. Not everything works. If you just go out and live for your stomach, that's not good. That would be a fleshly way of thinking. And then flip forward to chapter nine in First Corinthians twenty four and twenty seven out of chapter nine. Randy: Okay, this is talking about bringing your appetites into subjection is what Paul is talking about here. and if you in your Bible probably every anything is lawful is a quote in quotes. Jeff: Do you not know that all the runners in the stadium compete, but only one receives a prize, so run to win. Each competitor must exercise self control in everything. They do it to receive a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one. So I do not run uncertainly or box like the one who hits only air. Instead, I subdue my body and make it my slave, so that, after preaching to others, I might or I myself will not be disqualified. He subdues his body Randy: Do you not know that all the runners in the stadium compete, but only one receives a prize, so run to win. He subdues his body Jeff: And makes it his slave. In other words, it goes back to what I said earlier. Your body works for you, not the other way around. If we're talking disease, if we're talking appetites, it doesn't matter. Your body works for you. You don't work for your body. And that's why he's saying we got to train it like an athlete. So we take our desires and we bring them into subjection, our appetites, bring them into subjection to the truth of God's word. That's living from God's word, from the spirit realm into the physical realm. Randy: And makes it his slave. Jeff: That's our body. Let's see. well let's keep going. Romans twelve one. We're not done with the body yet. We'll go to the mind here in just second. Okay. Randy: That's our body. Let's see. well let's keep going. Romans twelve one. We're not done with the body yet. We'll go to the mind here in just second. Okay. Jeff: Romans twelve one. Therefore I exert you or exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice, alive, holy, and pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service. So our bodies are a living sacrifice to God. So it is through how your body is how you express yourself in the physical realm. And it's to be controlled by the Spirit through your mind, mind, will emotions, or soul, into your body. Randy: 12.1. Therefore, I exert you or exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice, alive, holy, and pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service. So our bodies are a living sacrifice to God. So it is through how your body is how you express yourself in the physical realm. And it's to be controlled by the Spirit through your mind, mind, will emotions, or soul, into your body. Jeff: Divine health. I think divine health is a is a gift of God. I don't say I've figured it out yet, but I think it's the process we're supposed to do. Romans eight eleven, we won't go there, but talks about there's r the spirit of the one who raised Christ from the dead lives in you. Talking about our body. And if the spirit of the one who raised Christ from the dead lives in you, then he will breathe life into your mortal body. Randy: Divine health. Jeff: So this spirit relationship, this spirit of having the Holy Spirit, having the Spirit of Christ that we are one with spiritually in our body exudes resurrection power out of it. We just got to figure out how to get it from our spirit through our soul into our body. That's part of the renewing and the training. Training our body and renewing our mind. First Corinthians 5 23 Randy: So this spirit relationship, this spirit of having the Holy Spirit, having the Spirit of Christ that we are one with spiritually in our body exudes resurrection power out of it. We just got to figure out how to get it from our spirit through our soul into our body. That's part of the renewing and the training. Training our body and renewing our mind. First Corinthians five twenty-three Jeff: thinking about divine health too talks about sanctification of both of all three, our spirit, soul, and body. To be made holy. So your body is to be sanctified. To be made holy, which I contend is divine health is part of that. Yeah. Randy: thinking about divine health too talks about sanctification of both of all three, our spirit, soul, and body. To be made holy. So your body is to be sanctified. To be made holy, which I contend is divine health is part of that. Yeah. Jeff: Let's go on to a mind for just a second. Let's go to Romans twelve two. You should still be there. Yeah. Romans twelve two. Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God, what is good and well pleasing and perfect. Okay, so we are to renew our mind. Our mind, our soul as well. But mostly this is talking about a part of the soul, which is a big part of mind, our intellect intellect. Randy: Let's go on to a mind for just a second. Jeff: is to re be renewed by f I used to say marinate your brain. It's really your mind in God's word. It's it's it's taking God's word, not just knowing it from an information standpoint, but knowing it as a person, as the person of Jesus Christ, the word of God. And it is knowing Him, knowing the Father, knowing the Holy Spirit, as we take our mind and renew it to the truth through the Spirit instead of the the facts. Randy: is to re be renewed by f I used to say marinate your brain. What we used to be think is truth through the physical realm. Right. let's see. Jeff: What we used to be think is truth through the physical realm. Right. let's see. Randy: And I love that because it uses some words that can be offensive to to some to the religious mind is that so we can test and approve God's will. He's not saying that God has to that we're approving his will. Okay, God, you can do that. Right. We're talking about spiritual warfare. We're talking about Second Corinthians ten, three through five, about strongholds in the mind and taking every thought to to the obedience of Jesus Christ. That's what we're talking about. So Jeff: And I love that because it uses some words that can be offensive to to some to the religious mind. Is that so we can test and approve God's will. So Here we're we're going we're this is by renewing our mind, we can test and approve what God's will is. So when a lie comes in through our spirit into our mind we can go, Nope, that's a lie and I reject it based on Randy: Here we're we're going we're this is by renewing our mind, we can test and approve what God's will is. So when a lie comes in through our spirit into our mind we can go, Nope, that's a lie and I reject it based on having renewed my mind so I can attest and approve what God's will is. If something comes from the Holy Spirit, it matches God's will that I that my renewed mind can test and approve and go, yep, that's from the Holy Spirit. That's correct. It's in alignment with God's word. I will dwell on that. that's kind of, let's see. Jeff: having renewed my mind so I can attest and approve what God's will is. If something comes from the Holy Spirit, it matches God's will that I that my renewed mind can test and approve and go, Yep, that's from the Holy Spirit. That's correct. It's in alignment with God's word. I will dwell on that. that's kind of, let's see. I got it written down here and I don't have my notes, so go to Ephesians three seventeen. This is part of the prayer. It escapes me exactly which part. Randy: I got it written down here and I don't have my notes, so go to Ephesians three seventeen. This is part of the prayer. It escapes me exactly which part. Jeff: I think anyway, spirit of wisdom and revelation maybe. Ephesians three seventeen. Read that. Okay. Randy: I think anyway, spirit of wisdom and revelation, maybe. Ephesians three seventeen, read that. Okay. That Christ will dwell in your hearts through faith, so that because you've been rooted and grounded in love, you will be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and thus to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so you'll be able to fill it up with all the fullness of God. So you're talking about through this spirit, first Corinthians six seventeen says that my spirit and the spirit of Christ are one. Your spirit Jeff: That Christ will dwell in your hearts through faith, so that, because you've been rooted and grounded in love, you will be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and thus to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so you'll be able to fill it up with all the fullness of God. So you're talking about through this spirit, first Corinthians six seventeen says that my spirit and the spirit of Christ are one. Your spirit and the spirit of Christ are one. And it's through that spirit and then it comes through our soul, through our mind, that we can Randy: And the Spirit of Christ are one. And it's through that spirit, then then it comes through our soul, through our mind, that we can understand and comprehend his love. Going back to or staying on the mind here, we have a in some segments of Christianity in the West, we have this fear of talking about words. What Jesus on his work, Jesus says about words, he says. Jeff: understand and comprehend his love. Going back or staying on the mind here, we have a in some segments of Christianity in the West, we have this fear of talking about words. What Jesus on his work Jesus says about words, he says, what comes out of a man's mouth either defiles him or justifies him. Randy: What comes out of a man's mouth either defiles him or justifies him. Words are pretty important. Joshua says in Joshua one, I think it's verse eight, it says, Never let there be a time where God's word's not is not on your lips. Proverbs eighteen twenty one says that the power of life and death is in the tongue. James compares the tongue to a small rudder on a big ship. So words are extremely important. Jeff: Words are pretty important. Joshua says in Joshua one, I think it's verse eight, it says, Never let there be a time where God's word's not is not on your lips. Proverbs eighteen twenty-one says that the power of life and death is in the tongue. James compares the tongue to a small rudder on a big ship. So words are extremely important. And I put here, an unrenewed mind. Randy: And I put here, an unrenewed mind gives voice to our five senses. But a renewed mind gives voice to the truth of God's word. And that's so important coming out of us in in all different ways. Mark 11, 23, that says, Whatever you say, if you believe in your heart and do not doubt, will be done for you. That's a truth that isn't that is applies to the unrenewed mind and the renewed mind. Jeff: gives voice to our five senses. But a renewed mind gives voice to the truth of God's word. And that's so important coming out of us in in all different ways. Mark 1123 is it says, whatever you say, if you believe in your heart and do not doubt will be done for you. That's a truth that isn't that is applies to the unrenewed mind and the renewed mind. So if what's coming out of your mouth is death, is sickness is poverty, then lies Randy: So if what's coming out of your mouth mouth is death, is sickness, is poverty, then lies, then what you say will be done for you. the renewed mind now is put in God's word, repeating God's word, not to make it true, but because it is true. And then hear hearing comes faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ. As we're speaking the word of Christ, we're hearing and it builds up our faith. Jeff: then what you say will be done for you. the renewed mind now is put in God's word, repeating God's word, not to make it true, but because it is true. And then hear hearing comes, faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ. As we're speaking the word of Christ, we're hearing and it builds up our faith. Randy: And then that's all these things are aspects of walking according to the the spirit. let's see. Jeff: And then that's all these things are aspects of walking according to the the spirit. let's see. Randy: I want to talk about the soul here for just a second, but let's just go to let's talk about the fleshly man or the carnal man. Go to 1 Corinthians 3, 1 through 3. So while you're going there, carnal man in this Jeff: I want talk about the soul here for just a second, but let's just go to let's talk about the fleshly man or the carnal man. Go to first Corinthians three, one through three. So while you're going there, carnal man in this section here, or a f a fleshly man, is not necessarily somebody that's living in a moral life. It is somebody that's a living according to the physical realm only. Randy: section here or a f a fleshly man is not necessarily somebody that's living in a moral life. It is somebody that's a living according to the physical realm only. And they're defining truth by what they see. Jeff: And they're defining truth by what they see. Yeah. it's a perfect description of humanism in the West. And it's been going on for centuries for us. And it's overpowering us, even in the even in the church, where we almost give lip service to the unseen things, and we just focus on the seen things to the point that we'll take a doctor's slip and we'll put our faith and Randy: Yeah. it's a perfect description of humanism in the West and it's been going on for centuries for us and it's overpowering us even in the even in the church, where we almost give lip service to the unseen things, yeah, and we just focus on the seen things to the point that we'll take a doctor's slip and we'll put our faith and and our entire lives on that doctor's slip and we'll not even and we put zero faith in the word of God. Yeah. Jeff: And our entire lives on that doctor's slip, and we'll not even and we put zero faith in the word of God. Yeah. So w maybe we'll give some examples of that later, but that was a bold statement, but it's it's absolutely true. First Corinthians three, one through three. See what that says. So, brothers and sisters, I could not speak to you as spiritual people, but instead as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ. I fed you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready. In fact, you are still not ready, for you are still influenced by the flesh. These are immature believers. Randy: So w maybe we'll give some examples of that later, but that was a bold statement, but it's it's absolutely true. Jeff: Who are still believing and working according to their flesh or according to their five senses. He's not necessarily calling on them immoral, although in First Corinthians he deals with some immorality, some sexual immorality, but this is to this whole group. He says, I can just you're a baby in Christ. Remember we talk about when your spirit is reborn, it requires maturing, it requires a renewing of the mind. Randy: Who are still believing and working according to their flesh or according to their five senses. He's not necessarily calling on them immoral, although in First Corinthians he deals with some immorality, some sexual immorality. But this is to this whole group. He says, I can just you're a baby in Christ. Remember we talking about when your spirit is reborn, it requires maturing, it requires a renewing of the mind. Jeff: Because the mind has been focused on the five senses for its whole life. And now we turn and our mind needs to be get truth and and reality from the spirit realm. He's saying, Hey, you guys are running around. I can't get you to think about spiritual things. Earlier, just a few verses prior to that, he says spiritually thing spiritual things are discerned spiritually, not Randy: Because the mind has been focused on the five senses for its whole life. And now we turn and our mind needs to be get truth and and reality from the spirit realm. He's saying, Hey, you guys are running around. I can't get you to think about spiritual things. Earlier, just a few verses prior to that, he says spiritually thing spiritual things are discerned spiritually, not Jeff: Physically or not soulishly. early in the work thing it says the natural man, I think it's verse fourteen, talks about the natural man, and you're in the NET. It even says unbeliever. That's a poor both of those are poor interpretations. It is the soulish man. So in other words, the man that is very intellectual is the man that that can't understand spiritual things, nor can the fleshly man or the man that is focused on his on his five senses. let's see. Randy: Physically or not soulishly. early in the work thing it says the natural man, I think it's verse fourteen, talks about the natural man. And you're in the NET, it even says unbeliever. That's a poor both of those are poor interpretations. It is the soulish man. So in other words, the man that is very intellectual is the man that that can't understand spiritual things, nor can the fleshly man or the man that is focused on his on his five senses. let's see. Jeff: Alright, that's a carnal man. Let's talk about a a couple things. Changing notes here. Okay. Randy: Alright, that's a carnal man. Let's talk about a a couple things. Changing notes here. Okay. Jeff: I think we get this done in about ten or fifteen minutes. Okay. Keep going. Sounds good. All right, we'll see. All right. All right. So let's talk about how our emotions work and how they interact with our mind. So we're gonna kinda concentrate on the soul here for just a second. Okay. But I have a story. When I was my family went on vacation, I don't know, I think I was I was in elementary school some some point and we went to I think we were in Southern California and Randy: I think we get this done in about ten or fifteen minutes. Okay. Keep going. Sounds good. All right, we'll see. All right. All right. So let's talk about how our emotions work and how they interact with our mind. So we're gonna kinda concentrate on the soul here for just a second. Okay. But I have a story. When I was my family went on vacation, I don't know, I think I was I was in elementary school some some point and we went to I think we were in Southern California and Jeff: My mom listened to this. She'll know the details if they're messed up. But I think that's where we were. Anyway, I was at a zoo or something and I of course wanted a souvenir so that so what I got was a this rubber snake. It was huge. And it and it looked real. Not as real as some of the rubber snake these days look, but it but it looked real. So and we were we were vacationing and living in a hotel at the time or staying in hotel and the next day we went somewhere. Randy: My mom listens to this. Jeff: else and we came back and I I can't remember where I left the snake. Whether I left it on the bed or I left it like on a countertop or something. Yeah. Randy: Else and we came back and I I can't remember where I left the snake. Well, I left it on the bed or I left it like on a countertop or something. Yeah. Jeff: Well we came home and I think that snake when we got home that sn or got to the hotel room, that snake was Randy: Well, we came home and I think that snake when we got home, that's or got to the hotel room, that snake was hidden somewhere. I can't remember if it was in drawer or in a suitcase. And there was this frantically written note from our housekeeper. And you could tell it w she said basically saying that snake car scared the living day outside of me and if you're looking for it, I put it here. But it her handwriting she was wigged out, you could tell. So her emotions had just went through the roof, right? Yeah. Jeff: hidden somewhere. I can't remember if it was in a drawer or in a suitcase. And there was this frantically written note from our housekeeper. And you could tell she said basically saying that snake car scared the living day outside out of me and if you're looking for it, I put it here. But it her handwriting she was wigged out, you could tell. So her emotions had just went through the roof, right? Yeah. Randy: Let me explain that. So your mind, let's go use scales one to ten. Jeff: Let me explain that. So so your mind, let's go s use scales one to ten. Randy: So your mind interprets the data from this this lady's from her eyes that that's a snake. Okay. And then so fear or need to do something goes from a one to a ten. Boom. That's the mind. It goes immediately. The will. Jeff: So your mind interprets the data from this this lady's from her eyes that that's a snake. Okay. And then so fear or need to do something goes from a one to a ten. Boom. That's the mind. It goes immediately. The will immediately comes on board and goes, Yep, that's a snake. We need to be afraid of it. So let's get ready to to run and do our thing. Boom, it goes straight to a ten. Randy: immediately comes on board and goes, Yep, that's a snake. We need to be afraid of it. So let's get ready to to run and do our thing. Boom, it goes straight to a 10. The emotions, what do they do? They do the same thing. They go wham, right to a 10. So your mind, will, and emotions are at a 10 for the fear or we got to do something quick. Then let's say your eyes and a second later realize it hasn't moved. it's a rubber snake. Jeff: The emotions, what do they do? They do the same thing. They go wham, right to a 10. So your mind, will, and emotions are at a 10 for the fear or we got to do something quick. Then let's say your eyes and a second later realize, it hasn't moved. it's a rubber snake. what do we what does our fear do? Our fear goes in the mind, it goes, it interprets that and goes, okay, zero or one. Let's go one to ten. Goom. Fear goes down to one. Randy: What do we what does our fear do? Our fear goes in the mind, goes, it interprets that and goes, okay, zero or one. Let's go one to ten. Goom. Fear goes down to one. The will goes, okay, we gotta decide what to do here. Okay, fear, everybody we're going to a one. Whoom, we go to one. What do the emotions do? The emotions don't go to a one. They go to a nine. Yeah. Then a little while later, they go to an eight. Jeff: The will goes, okay, we gotta decide what to do here. Okay, fear, everybody we're going to a one. Whoom, we go to a one. What do the emotions do? The emotions don't go to a one. They go to a nine. Yeah. Then a little while later they go to an eight. Then they'll s go to seven. Well about the seven is where our housekeeper's writing the note. And so our hands are still shaking because emotions don't react instantaneously. Emotions take a while. Randy: Then they'll s go to seven. Well about the seven is where our housekeeper's writing the note. Mm-hmm and so her hands are still shaking because emotions don't react instantaneously. Emotions take a while to go down. The problem with that is let's say now she'd she would got it down and she's had a seven and she opens the drawer and there's another snake. Let let's say my little brother had a snake too. He didn't, I don't think. Sorry. But he pulls and that Jeff: to go down. The problem with that is let's say now she'd she would got it down and she's at a seven and she opens the drawer and there's another snake. Let let's say my little brother had a snake too. He didn't I don't think. Sorry. But he pulls and that everything starts over, right? But but her fear goes from in the emotions goes from seven to ten. And now it's gonna take a little longer to go down. Yeah. And so what happens, this is important for us to understand that if we live our lives driven by emotions Randy: Everything starts over, right? But but her fear goes from in the emotions goes from seven to ten and now it's gonna take a little longer to go down. Yeah. And so what happens, this is important for us to understand that if we live our lives driven by emotions, then we're gonna be totally messed up. Okay? And our emotions can get stuck. The the fact of the matter is many children grow up in a home full of rubber snakes. Yeah. Jeff: then we're gonna be totally messed up, okay? And our emotions can get stuck. The the fact of the matter is many children grow up in a home full of rubber snakes. Yeah. What I mean is their mom or dad are a walking rubber snake and their their emotion of fear or their emotion of being belittled or the emotion of low self esteem gets popped up to a ten. Randy: What I mean is their mom or dad are a walking rubber snake. Then their their emotion of fear or their emotion of being belittled or the emotion of low self esteem gets popped up to a ten. And then they get out of the presence of who whoever's causing that and their mind and their will go back to one, but their emotions slowly go back down. Well, they don't get all the way back down, they get goosed again. While over time, some little ch some child her his fear Jeff: and then they get out of the presence of who whoever's causing that and their mind and their will go back to one, but their emotions slowly go back down. Well they don't get all the way back down, they get goosed again. While over time some little ch some child her his fear only goes to to six. It's resting at a six. Yeah. Or let's say about a a in a marriage or in a other relationship there's a lady, you know, you can do the same thing with anger or resentment. Randy: only goes to to six. It's resting at a six. Yeah. Or let's say about a in a marriage or in a other relationship, there's a lady, you know, you can do the same thing with anger or resentment or inferiority. The example I gave was what if somebody walks into your Sunday school class with a new dress and and you you've got, you know, a dress that you've had for a long time, maybe, and you don't feel that proud of, maybe, I don't know. Jeff: or inferiority. The example I gave was what if somebody walks into your Sunday school class with a new dress and and you you've got, you know, a dress that you've had for a long time, maybe, and you don't feel that proud of, maybe, I don't know. He says, Well, and the the guy that's that I learned this from fifty p years ago said he just kinda chuckles. Well how who who who what ladies Randy: He says, Well, and the the guy that's that I learned this from fifty p years ago said he just kinda chuckles. Well how who who who what lady's inferiority thing's not gonna go up a couple of points, right? Let's say it goes from a one to a four or one to a five. But what if you're the lady that's sitting there at a seven? Jeff: inferiority thing's not gonna go up a couple of points, right? Let's say it goes from a one to a four or one to a five. But what if you're the lady that's sitting there at a seven and that happens and now you go from you're you don't have four points. Yeah. Seven to a ten or seven to a pegged at a ten. Maxed out. And this this is the way our emotions work. So our emotions will follow our our will they mind. Randy: And that happens and now you go from you're you don't have four points. Yeah. Seven to a ten or seven to a pegged at a ten. Maxed out. And this this is the way our emotions work. So our emotions will follow our our will. They will follow our mind like a trailer. Like when you pull a trailer, you if your engine is the mind and the steering wheel is the will and the trailer is your emotions, Jeff: Like a trailer. Like when you pull a trailer, you if your engine is the mind and the steering wheel is the wheel and the trailer is your emotions, you j you do that correctly, it just drives and goes, right? So we have to through a renewing of our mind, through focusing on the truth, we have to we have to first of all give these things to the Lord to let him heal, and then we have to focus on the the only one who will never belittle. Randy: You j you do that correctly, it just drives and goes, right? So we have to, through a renewing of our mind, through focusing on the truth, we have to we have to first of all give these things to the Lord to let him heal. And then we have to focus on the the only one who will never belittle us, who will never cause fear. And we have to be delivered from fear many times or healed of it. Jeff: If your emotions are leading the charge, then that that will lead, you know, all over s all over the place. It's essentially the the way of of of the trailer trying to lead what's being pulled. Another story real quick. My little brother, we we went to the lake every Saturday for probably ten years growing up until we outgrew it. I don't know. Through high school anyway. Randy: If your emotions are leading the charge, then that that will lead, you know, all over s all over the place. It's essentially the the way of of of the trailer trying to lead what's being pulled. Another story real quick. My little brother, we we went to the lake every Saturday for probably ten years growing up until we outgrew it. I don't know. Through high school anyway. Jeff: And and dad would back the boat down and then I started backing the boat down. He taught me how to back the boat down. And I guess evidently my little brother was sitting in the back seat, never noting about anything about backing a trailer. So he moves away from home, he's in the town, he's got this this family that he's hanging out with and and th they got a new boat and a new truck. And so they go to the lake and they invite John to come to the lake. They come to the lake. Randy: And and dad would back the boat down and then I started backing the boat down. Jeff: There's a wife, husband, two kids. The husband looks at John. John, can you back the boat down? What the what does the husband mean? Do you know how to back the trailer? John hears, are you are are you willing to back the trailer? So John says, Yes. Never backed a trailer in his life. So the guy, the g the guy pulls around, he's going to back down the tr down the ramp. And Randy: There's a wife, husband, two kids. And Jeff: this story from John started off with Randy, did you know that when you back a trailer you have to turn it opposite? And I'm like, We're like in our early 30s. I'm like, no. I'm like, yeah, yeah, John. But anyway, he backs it down. they swap out, he gets the driver's seat, the husband gets in the boat so he can pull it off the trailer, and John backs it. The trailer starts to the to the left, so John cuts the wheels to the left. Randy: this story from John started off with Randy, did you know that when you back a trailer you have to turn it opposite? And I'm like, We're like in our early 30s. I'm like, no. I'm like, yeah, yeah, John. But anyway, he backs it down. they swap out, he gets the driver's seat, the husband gets in the boat so he can pull it off the trailer, and John backs it. The trailer starts to the to the left, so John cuts the wheels to the left. Jeff: So John jackknifes the trailer, this new trailer, into and puts a hole in the bumper. no. And so the guy says, stop, move forward. So John moves forward, backs down again, only this time the trailer's going another way, same thing, and he and he puts a hole in the bumper of there. So John wasn't allowed to drive anywhere like that. But that's kind of the essential of the display of emotions leading the way. Randy: So John jackknifes the trailer, this new trailer, into and puts a hole in the bumper. Jeff: Okay. So it's important to understand not to let your emotions leave the way. Understand you need to give over to the Lord to let him renew and let him heal those and so your emotions come down to where they're supposed to be when they're when they're one. here's another thing that I'm I hinted at earlier. Your mind, all your thoughts are not yours. that was so valuable. I learned that probably in middle school. Randy: Okay. Jeff: So Randy: So There's there's several verses that we can look at there. But remember this is where twelve two. We need to test and approve what God's will is. We need to understand that we take every thought captive to the obedience of Jesus Christ. When we have a thought, we don't automatically go, that's mine. Because in the spirit, you there's no tone to the voice in the spirit. Right. And so you can't tell by the tone. You also can't tell by the Jeff: There's there's several verses that we can look at there. But remember this is where twelve, two, we need to test and approve what God's will is. We need to understand that we take every thought captive to the obedience of Jesus Christ. When we have a thought, we don't automatically go, that's mine. Because in the spirit, you there's no tone to the voice in the spirit. Right. And so you can't tell by the tone. You also can't tell by the by the pronouns used because the demonic liars are experts at lying. They've been lying for centuries before you and I were born. They their leader is the father of lies according to Jesus Christ. So so they're very deceptive. You know, we've seen where Satan interacted with Eve. He didn't lie to her. He actually ninety five percent was true. He just changed a few of the words to get her hopped up and get her going. Hey, God's not Randy: by the pronouns used because the demonic liars are experts at lying. Hey, God's not Jeff: Telling me everything here. So anyway, that's an important important he'll use l many times first personal pronouns. It sounds like you, and it's your choice. I'm not saying the devil made me do it. I am saying the devil suggested it and you grabbed hold of it. James describes it as a d desire that starts and it's a snowball rolling downhill. This desire turns to sin. And then then Randy: Telling me everything here. And then then Jeff: A different subject we can we can figure out that sickness works very much the same way. So we have to reject life. That's our dog Millie barking at at at Jeff. I think I'm getting attacked Millie, Millie. I think I'm getting attacked. Yeah. Well if you live through this, it'll be a good one. Amen. Randy: A different subject we can we can figure out that sickness works very much the same way. So we have to reject life. That's our dog Millie barking at at at Jeff. I think I'm getting attacked Millie, Millie. I think I'm getting attacked. Yeah. Well if you live through this, it'll be a good one. Hey Mill. let's go to second Corinthians. We read it recently. Second Corinthians ten, three through five. Second Corinthians ten. Jeff: let's go to second Corinthians. We read it recently. Second Corinthians ten, three through five. Second Corinthians ten. Randy: All right. Jeff: Alright. Millie. All right. Can we survive this or not? Yes. All right. Read it. We live five. Say okay. So for though we live as human beings, we do not wage war according to human standards. For the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons. It's just wires. Randy: Millie. All right. Can we survive this or not? Yes. All right. Read it. We live five. Say okay. So for though we live as human beings, we do not wage war according to human standards. For the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons. It's just wires. Jeff: All right, for though we live as human beings, we do not wage war according to human standards, for the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, but are made powerful by God for tearing down strongholds. We tear down arguments and every arrogant obstacle that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obey Christ. Okay. So Randy: All right, for though we live as human beings, we do not wage war according to human standards, for the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, but are made powerful by God for tearing down strongholds. We tear down arguments and every arrogant obstacle that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obey Christ. Okay. So Jeff: we can talk about this in other terms later, but what I want to concentrate on is we take every thought Randy: we can talk about this in other terms later, but what I want to concentrate on is we take every thought. Jeff: and the literal translation there is take every thought to the obedience of Christ. You can look at the New King James says that very well, exactly the way it does in the Greek. And in the NET, which is your reading out of, if you go look in the notes, it says what really said here is to the obedience of Christ. Right. You do not want to take every thought and make it obey Christ. Randy: And the literal translation there is take every thought to the obedience of Christ. You can look at the New King James says that very well, exactly the way it does in the Greek. And in the NET, which is your reading out of, if you go look in the notes, it says, What really said here is to the obedience of Christ. Right. You do not want to take every thought and make it obey Christ. That takes time. I have to take that thought, figure out why it doesn't. Jeff: That takes time. I have to take that thought, figure out why it doesn't match, why it doesn't obey Christ, and then I have to make a thought obey Christ. That's just a weird thing. Right. Especially if that thought is coming from a a liar, a demonic source. Yep. so I don't want to take every thought to make it obey Christ, because that I gotta deal with it way too long. And I don't know exactly how you do that. What I wanna do is take it. Randy: match why it doesn't obey Christ and then I have to make a thought obey Christ. That's just a weird thing. Right. Especially if that thought is coming from a a liar, a demonic source. Yep. so I don't want to take every thought to make it obey Christ because that I got to deal with it way too long. And I don't know exactly how you do that. What I want to do is take it Jeff: to the obedience of Christ. And that's a quick comparison, kind of like we talked about Romans twelve two, to understand to test and approve God's will. And so I need to go, is it true or not? If it is, then dwell on it. If it's not true, then just get rid of it. And what I mean I you can just simply say no. Randy: to the obedience of Christ. And that's a quick comparison, kind of like we talked about Romans 12, too, to understand to test and approve God's will. And so I need to go, is it true or not? If it is, then dwell on it. If it's not true, then just get rid of it. And what I mean, I you can just simply say no. I I'll tell his story later. We don't have time, but a bang, I just shoot it, I go boom. Jeff: I I'll tell a story later. We don't have time, but a bang, I just shoot it, I go boom. Randy: I go, I don't deal with it. I don't need it. It's it's gone. It's a lie. I'm not gonna make it obey anything. I'm gonna ditch it. Right. And then I only focus on the things that are of Christ. Read Colossians three, one through three, and I think we'll be close to done. Sounds good. Jeff: I go, I don't deal with it. I don't need it. It's it's gone. It's a lie. I'm not going to make it obey anything. I'm going to ditch it. Right. And then I only focus on the things that are of Christ. Read Colossians three, one through three. And then I think we'll be close to done. Sounds good. Randy: Because Millie's driving us crazy. No. Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Keep thinking about the things above, not things on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. You're keep your mind focused on the things above, not the things on earth. Yeah. That means walk according to the Spirit. Have your mind focused on the truth and the reality that comes from the Spirit, not things that come. Jeff: Because Millie's driving us crazy. Just into your mind from lies and not the things that that we see in you know just our five senses. Those are facts, those are not the truth. We're gonna dwell on truth. Take every thought captive. Here's an e here's an example. You need to put a truth filter. That's what renewing your mind does. When you hear something along the lines of I can't, you can respond with, I can do all things with Christ. Randy: Just into your mind from lies and not the things that that we see in, you know, just our five senses. Those are facts. Those are not the truth. We're gonna dwell on truth. Take every thought captive. Here's an e here's an example. You need to put a truth filter. That's what renewing your mind does. When you hear something along the lines of I can't, you can respond with, I can do all things with Christ. You Jeff: You c you can also under I say I can't, that's more of a male attack, I think. A female attack was is more along the lines of I'm worthless. And you just say, Hey, I'm a joint heir with Jesus Christ, a side by side heir with Jesus Christ. You can also s say hear the lie of I don't deserve X, this good thing. And you go, wait a minute, I am the righteousness of God in Christ. That's the truth. The lie might sound something like I'm ugly. but the Randy: You can also under I say I can't, that's more of a male attack, I think. A female attack was is more along the lines of I'm worthless. Jeff: The truth is I'm created in God's image. Randy: the lie may sound something like, I'm a sinner. The truth is I'm holy, righteous, I'm a saint. Sixty times we're called saints, which is holy one. Or yeah. So this is an example, and we can get into it because this armor that that we're gonna start on next session with Ephesians six is gonna prepare us and help us to do that. I have a relationship with with Angela for been married almost forty years. Okay. I know she loves me with all my heart. That's that's the truth. Jeff: If she says something that can be taken good or it can be taken bad, how do I take it? Good. I take it as good, right? Right. We in the West, at least in in our culture, seem to be experts at feeling like a victim. Right. And taking it bad. No. I know she loves me. I know the truth is that. If something sounds funny, I I and it can be taken good or bad, I take it as as good. by the way, she says something that's meant to be bad. I just Randy: If she says something that can be taken good or it can be taken bad, how do I take it? Good. I take it as good, right? Right. Let it go in one ear, out the other. I know she loves me. The truth is she loves me. I'm not gonna d let my mind. Randy: Blow it off. Forgive her. Let it go in one ear, out the other. I know she loves me. The truth is she loves me. I'm not gonna d let my mind. Jeff: Anything other than that.
