Latest / Lisa & Russell / Book Week Disaster - Does That Mean Someone In The World Is Running Around In A Mary Poppins Costume?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So, as we say, it's been real quick. It has.
- 0:01Speaker 1: Kids getting their costumes and their photos.
- 0:03Speaker 2: I'm past that now, thankfully.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it almost wasn't for someone. A bizarre mix-up
- 0:09Speaker 1: left a family completely shocked after an online order went
- 0:12Speaker 1: terribly wrong. A Melbourne woman ordered a classic Mary Poppins
- 0:16Speaker 1: outfit for her 10-year-old daughter for book week, but she
- 0:20Speaker 1: got a North Korean leader Kim Jong-un costume instead. That's
- 0:23Speaker 1: what came in the mail. The family expected a charming
- 0:26Speaker 1: Victorian-style dress paired with the character's signature hat and umbrella,
- 0:30Speaker 1: but received a black military-style tunic and matching trousers and
- 0:34Speaker 1: mask designed to resemble the dictator's iconic suit. The young
- 0:40Speaker 1: girl's family expressed deep disappointment and frustration over the incident,
- 0:44Speaker 1: leaving the child disappointed and costumeless.
- 0:46Speaker 2: But, well, I still would have gone forward with it
- 0:49Speaker 2: because did you know that Kim Jong-un is actually an
- 0:53Speaker 2: accomplished author? He has books.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Well, yeah, but you're supposed to go as a character,
- 0:58Speaker 1: not the author. The family contacted a customer service to
- 1:01Speaker 1: report the mix-up, demand a refund and secure the correct outfit.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Her angry parent wrote, you sent me the wrong costume.
- 1:07Speaker 1: My daughter needed the Mary Poppins costume for book week
- 1:09Speaker 1: and you sent me a Kim Jong-un. Hundreds of people
- 1:11Speaker 1: have commented on the post. One saying, I mean, let's
- 1:14Speaker 1: spare a thought for the person who ordered the Supreme
- 1:17Speaker 1: Leader mask and is now wearing a Mary Poppins costume instead.
- 1:21Speaker 1: In the end, the costume place got it sorted and
- 1:23Speaker 1: she got her Mary Poppins in time for the book
- 1:26Speaker 1: week parade at school. As for the Kim Jong guy,
- 1:31Speaker 1: he might be the first Kim Jong taking a spoonful
- 1:34Speaker 1: of sugar to make the medicine go down.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Look, I'm going to pull you up on a technicality.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Kim Jong-un is an author, but he's also a character
- 1:43Speaker 2: because he is the author of The Great Comrade. Kim
- 1:47Speaker 2: Jong-un is the eternal leader of our party.
- 1:50Speaker 1: He wrote that.
- 1:50Speaker 2: He wrote that. About himself. About himself. Came out in 2015.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It's like Dennis Waterman in Minder.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I wrote the theme, Juna. Sang the theme, Juna. Started it.
- 2:00Speaker 1: But not as much fun. No. I don't know.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Can you imagine her face? There's a million Mary Poppins
- 2:09Speaker 2: out there, but there's only one dear eternal leader.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Is there, though? Because... Because when you see them roll
- 2:17Speaker 1: them out in the parade, there's an awful lot of
- 2:20Speaker 1: them that look like him. And I think they just,
- 2:21Speaker 1: you know, have them spare ready in case they don't
- 2:24Speaker 1: want to risk the actual one.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Hence why you can buy them online. Exactly.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Anyway, all's well that ends well.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Everyone was happy except the Kim Jong-un who's dressed as
- 2:36Speaker 2: Mary Poppins. Never mind.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
