- 0:03Speaker 1: Happy Thursday. Nice shirt, Kratz.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hey, Kratz, remember you told me to remind you about
- 0:09Speaker 2: the Yankee celebration story. If you don't have the prop,
- 0:12Speaker 2: then forget it. We have plenty of other things to
- 0:14Speaker 2: hit today. I don't need you to do something if
- 0:16Speaker 2: you don't have all of your.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Tricks and tools.
- 0:19Speaker 4: The prop matters. The prop matters. But it's something cool,
- 0:23Speaker 4: and it'll be worth it when we talk about it.
- 0:25Speaker 1: How about tomorrow? Can you write down in your phone
- 0:28Speaker 1: or put an alarm down tomorrow?
- 0:30Speaker 3: Got it. Right up here.
- 0:31Speaker 4: I'm like an elephant. Huge nose.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Hey, also, did you guys see how Steve Cohen replied
- 0:38Speaker 2: to Foul Territory, which was a clip from David Lennon
- 0:43Speaker 2: of Newsday? He was on our show yesterday. David was great,
- 0:46Speaker 2: good enthusiasm talking about Lennon, not Stearns. But Lennon, the writer,
- 0:51Speaker 2: mentioned how David Stearns was not really to be seen
- 0:54Speaker 2: around Citi Field. And when he says that, he's kind
- 0:56Speaker 2: of talking about the media angle, right, to be able
- 0:59Speaker 2: to talk to him during Pete's reunion. So Steve replied.
- 1:03Speaker 2: to the tweet and said, that's strange. I was in
- 1:08Speaker 2: the dugout pregame on Monday with a guy that looked
- 1:10Speaker 2: like David Stearns.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Was it an imposter? Well, AJ, two people can be
- 1:15Speaker 1: right here.
- 1:16Speaker 2: If Stearns is not really around for the media to
- 1:19Speaker 2: chat with him about, I would say the biggest moment
- 1:22Speaker 2: of the year for Mets fans, then we know he's
- 1:25Speaker 2: at the park. Every GM and Pobo goes to the
- 1:28Speaker 2: park every day during the season.
- 1:31Speaker 3: They don't go every day, but they go a lot.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Just about every day.
- 1:33Speaker 3: A lot of days. I mean, sometimes they're on the
- 1:35Speaker 3: road going to minor league affiliates and all that stuff. So, yeah,
- 1:39Speaker 3: they're not there every day, but they're damn sure they're
- 1:42Speaker 3: a lot. And someone's there. So, I don't know. It's weird.
- 1:45Speaker 3: You're right. Two things can be true. Stearns is probably there,
- 1:48Speaker 3: but he probably wasn't seen by the media. So, yeah,
- 1:50Speaker 3: two things can be right at the same time. But
- 1:52Speaker 3: it's like Stevie Cohen's listening to us and reading what
- 1:55Speaker 3: we're writing now. Stevie, come on the show. Let's talk
- 1:57Speaker 3: about some stuff.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I would love to have Steve on the show.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Steve, Stevie Cohen is one of those owners. Maybe this
- 2:06Speaker 4: is my opinion. He's one of the good owners that's
- 2:08Speaker 4: out there engaging the fans. Yes, I get it. He's
- 2:11Speaker 4: a new owner, but he says what he feels. So
- 2:15Speaker 4: I love the fact that he saw what we were
- 2:17Speaker 4: talking about and I would love to talk to him.
- 2:19Speaker 4: I think he's up there with, you know, with the Middletons,
- 2:23Speaker 4: John Middleton. I think he's up there, you know, that's
- 2:25Speaker 4: the type of, Owners that we need in the game,
- 2:28Speaker 4: not the ones that are just recluses.
- 2:30Speaker 3: So good for Stevie.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm a fan. He tweets.
- 2:35Speaker 2: He does go on some New York shows and does interviews. Now,
- 2:39Speaker 2: the replies to that. reply from Steve were not friendly,
- 2:43Speaker 2: but it was mostly Mets fans that are not pleased
- 2:45Speaker 2: with the season and feel like he's defending David Stearns
- 2:48Speaker 2: and that David Stearns should not return. And that's a
- 2:50Speaker 2: fair opinion to have a very fair opinion with the
- 2:53Speaker 2: amount of money that you were allowed to spend and
- 2:54Speaker 2: the amount of people that you let go that were
- 2:56Speaker 2: part of the core of the Mets. You made a
- 2:58Speaker 2: huge mistake to me. They're meeting at the middle at
- 3:01Speaker 2: this point where it's, Hey, he's got one off season.
- 3:04Speaker 2: All of the pressure is on this. There's no more
- 3:06Speaker 2: five-year plans or anything else. And it's not like they've
- 3:08Speaker 2: had zero success, but He needs to nail it. They
- 3:10Speaker 2: need to make the playoffs next year or the fans
- 3:13Speaker 2: will lose it. I think some are at least giving
- 3:16Speaker 2: him one more season.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Some aren't right.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Yeah. He's got it. He's got it. Well, it's going
- 3:21Speaker 3: to be an interesting off season too, with all the
- 3:24Speaker 3: labor stuff that also caused a bunch of hoo-ha yesterday
- 3:28Speaker 3: on the show. So yeah, kerfuffle. Uh, but yeah, it's, it's,
- 3:32Speaker 3: it's going to be an interesting off season because not
- 3:34Speaker 3: only do you have to nail it with the players
- 3:35Speaker 3: and all the trades and everything else, you also have
- 3:38Speaker 3: to nail it with, uh, CBA expiring, there's going to
- 3:41Speaker 3: be a lockout. There's not a possible lockout, sorry. There's
- 3:43Speaker 3: going to be a lockout. So you have to try
- 3:45Speaker 3: to navigate all that stuff. And oh yeah, by the way,
- 3:47Speaker 3: make the Mets a lot better. Although they have played
- 3:49Speaker 3: a lot better until they just got their asses beat
- 3:50Speaker 3: by the Orioles.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yep. Yeah, and they're playing garbage time.
- 3:54Speaker 2: So this is the last point we might make about
- 3:57Speaker 2: the Mets for the rest of the season. Juan Soto
- 3:59Speaker 2: was asked about the Pete Alonso curtain call. And here's
- 4:04Speaker 2: the tweet from Mike Puma of the New York Post.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Soto had no issue with the curtain call. It's been
- 4:09Speaker 2: a tough year for the fans this year, so I
- 4:11Speaker 2: think they just saved their power for the best moment.
- 4:14Speaker 2: That's the quote from Juan Soto. AJ, beautifully stated.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, he said it perfectly. It's been a
- 4:22Speaker 3: tough year. One of their favorite people came back. One
- 4:25Speaker 3: of their people that they know well and they love
- 4:29Speaker 3: came back. So you know what they did? They gave
- 4:31Speaker 3: him a standing ovation and they gave him a curtain call.
- 4:33Speaker 3: They had to cheer about something this year. And Juan
- 4:35Speaker 3: nailed it. And listen, you can say what you want
- 4:38Speaker 3: about Juan Soto, but this was a pretty good answer
- 4:40Speaker 3: because it kind of summed it all up. It said, man,
- 4:43Speaker 3: we're disappointed with how we played. I understand the fans
- 4:45Speaker 3: are disappointed with how we played, and now we're going
- 4:48Speaker 3: to try to get better. But they wanted to see Pete,
- 4:51Speaker 3: and Pete gave them a moment, and they responded. So
- 4:53Speaker 3: it just shows you how passionate Mets fans are.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Let them have their moment, and that's what Soto did. Also,
- 4:59Speaker 2: the Mets made a lot of money over that series.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I mean, usually when you're out of it a month,
- 5:04Speaker 2: didn't change into the season attendance is tough and I
- 5:08Speaker 2: know it's gone down for them but during that time
- 5:10Speaker 2: period you ride that and you appreciate the fans for
- 5:12Speaker 2: having that kind of passion I'm with you all right
- 5:14Speaker 2: let's flip it to the other New York team here
- 5:20Speaker 2: lower leg tightness for Aaron Judge as he left the
- 5:24Speaker 2: game earlier than anticipated remember he missed 84 games and
- 5:28Speaker 2: he just got back for the Yanks right he's been
- 5:31Speaker 2: back for a minute and he's trying to get himself
- 5:33Speaker 2: quickly ready for the postseason. So, if we have the sound, yeah,
- 5:39Speaker 2: let's run that from Judge, and then AJ, you can
- 5:41Speaker 2: follow here.
- 5:42Speaker 1: They're in the first inning.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Try to kind of play it off and see how
- 5:48Speaker 5: long we go, because these games are important down the stretch,
- 5:50Speaker 5: but kind of talking it over, I thought it would
- 5:53Speaker 5: be the right move to come out, so we don't
- 5:56Speaker 5: cost the team on the field or cost the team
- 5:58Speaker 5: on the base path. Out on the field. Stuck out
- 6:07Speaker 5: there for a couple innings, but especially going to an
- 6:10Speaker 5: off day tomorrow, I didn't think it was smart to
- 6:12Speaker 5: push it too much here. Like I said, I didn't
- 6:15Speaker 5: want to cost the team down the road as that
- 6:17Speaker 5: game was going. Was there a movement or something in
- 6:20Speaker 5: particular or a certain play where you felt it originally?
- 6:24Speaker 1: I can't pinpoint it. We're ramping up.
- 6:27Speaker 5: We're still trying to ramp up, so there's going to
- 6:29Speaker 5: be little things like this that come up. I just
- 6:31Speaker 5: thought it would be best instead of pushing through it
- 6:33Speaker 5: like I normally do, and it might become a little worse.
- 6:37Speaker 5: You know, get somebody who's ready to go in there
- 6:40Speaker 5: and just try to do what's best for the team.
- 6:46Speaker 3: What's lowered leg tightness? Does that mean a calf? Does
- 6:48Speaker 3: that mean an ankle? Does that mean a foot? Does
- 6:50Speaker 3: that mean a knee? Is hockey lower body injury? Is
- 6:54Speaker 3: that upper body injury? Is that where we're going now?
- 6:57Speaker 3: I mean, he seems like he's okay, but excuse me.
- 7:02Speaker 3: This is why you go on rehab. That's why you go.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Most guys want to go on rehab assignment, especially when
- 7:06Speaker 3: you miss as long as Aaron Judge did. Because he
- 7:09Speaker 3: said it. This is like spring training. So what you
- 7:11Speaker 3: try to do is you try to get the soreness
- 7:13Speaker 3: and the little minor things that pop up at the
- 7:16Speaker 3: beginning of spring training out of the way by going
- 7:17Speaker 3: on a rehab assignment. But he didn't want to do that.
- 7:19Speaker 3: He didn't do that. So thank God he's okay.
- 7:24Speaker 4: He doesn't need to face minor league pitching. I think
- 7:27Speaker 4: that's the part of the rehab that he didn't want
- 7:28Speaker 4: to do. But the part of the rehab that I
- 7:31Speaker 4: think sometimes is what he's talking about with spring training
- 7:35Speaker 4: is normal with spring training. It's just being on your feet,
- 7:38Speaker 4: putting cleats on, stretching pregame, all the things that, like,
- 7:44Speaker 4: other sports would be like, you guys are so soft.
- 7:47Speaker 4: But just the daily grind of that kind of wears
- 7:50Speaker 4: on you when you haven't played for a little while.
- 7:55Speaker 1: So? concern level or is he just ramping back up
- 7:59Speaker 1: and should they.
- 8:00Speaker 6: Be just ramping back up if this was spring training
- 8:03Speaker 6: nobody would say a word he'd be like ah i
- 8:05Speaker 6: didn't feel it today i took but because there's only
- 8:07Speaker 6: nine games left in the season people are like oh
- 8:09Speaker 6: no aaron judge is gonna be out for the rest
- 8:11Speaker 6: of the year oh no we gotta calm down no
- 8:13Speaker 6: i think it'll be fine i just wish they would
- 8:15Speaker 6: have said what it was instead of lower body soreness
- 8:18Speaker 6: i have lower body soreness a lot of times.
- 8:21Speaker 4: Lower leg lower leg tightness i mean i can't believe
- 8:24Speaker 4: it wouldn't be a calf but we shouldn't speculate injuries.
- 8:28Speaker 4: But my biggest thing is I saw him after he
- 8:30Speaker 4: says in the first inning, he felt it. He was
- 8:33Speaker 4: still out there on his feet for five more innings.
- 8:36Speaker 4: And he ended up, he ended up going for a
- 8:39Speaker 4: ball that was off the wall to right center. So
- 8:43Speaker 4: he tested it. He pushed it. I don't think it's
- 8:46Speaker 4: as bad or else he would have come out immediately
- 8:48Speaker 4: in the first.
- 8:50Speaker 2: And if you're the Yanks, I mean, there's a very
- 8:53Speaker 2: slim chance at this point, AJ, that they can catch
- 8:56Speaker 2: the race. They'd basically have to sweep them in that
- 8:58Speaker 2: upcoming series.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:00Speaker 2: So they're not moving anywhere. They're well ahead in their
- 9:05Speaker 2: wild card seat, but they're, I.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Mean, they're going to be the four seat. They're going
- 9:08Speaker 3: to be the four seat, which is kind of funny
- 9:11Speaker 3: because they're going to have the second best record in
- 9:13Speaker 3: the league. And he does have to play because you
- 9:14Speaker 3: need them ready to go nine innings. Once the playoffs
- 9:17Speaker 3: start and they have to play the Red Sox.
- 9:20Speaker 4: And he's got to go full tilt. You can't be
- 9:22Speaker 4: pulling Judge out in the seventh inning because he's still
- 9:24Speaker 4: ramping up. So every day he's out. Like I was
- 9:29Speaker 4: trying to look to see like how many days, if
- 9:32Speaker 4: you were to do like a normal buildup, is he
- 9:35Speaker 4: going to play four full games before the end of
- 9:39Speaker 4: the season? Like from now on, if he takes today off,
- 9:42Speaker 4: if it's like, I don't know. Obviously I don't know that,
- 9:45Speaker 4: but it's all a formula and they need him in a,
- 9:50Speaker 4: Three game series, that's going to be back to back
- 9:52Speaker 4: to back. There's no days off.
- 9:56Speaker 1: When you say formula, what do you mean?
- 10:00Speaker 4: The formula is time on your feet, exertion, number of sprints.
- 10:07Speaker 4: I've seen the printout when big leaguers come down or
- 10:10Speaker 4: when minor leaguers are rehabbing. It's like a formula of
- 10:15Speaker 4: exactly what you're simulating a game where you say... Yes,
- 10:19Speaker 4: he didn't play all nine innings, but he was on
- 10:23Speaker 4: his feet based on the same amount that we usually
- 10:26Speaker 4: spend on our feet or doing exert exertion plays. It's
- 10:29Speaker 4: like six to eight exertion plays. And then they want
- 10:33Speaker 4: to like lower it down. It's it's crazy, but it's
- 10:37Speaker 4: actually it makes sense.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Hey, today's episode is presented by the ASPCA Pet Health
- 10:45Speaker 2: Insurance Program.
- 10:46Speaker 1: We love our pups.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Yes, I love my mini golden doodle, Bella.
- 10:51Speaker 4: But you can't miss this opportunity, just like Bella misses
- 10:55Speaker 4: the ball when you bounce it to her.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Bella, you're almost there. The ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Program

- 11:31Speaker 2: Independence American Insurance Company or United States Fire Insurance Company
- 11:35Speaker 2: and produced by PTZ Insurance Agency Limited. The ASPCA is
- 11:39Speaker 2: not an insurer and is not engaged in the business
- 11:41Speaker 2: of insurance. Yeah, Yanks D-backs coming up. That helps the
- 11:45Speaker 2: Diamondbacks team that's on life support, right?
- 11:47Speaker 3: Yeah. They're like, please, Judge, we hope your calf gets
- 11:51Speaker 3: better after these three games, after this next weekend, because
- 11:54Speaker 3: we need all the help we can get at this point.
- 11:56Speaker 4: And I don't know.
- 11:57Speaker 3: I agree with what Kratzy said. He needs to be ready,
- 11:59Speaker 3: but they need to figure out a way to get
- 12:00Speaker 3: him to be able to play nine innings. And you
- 12:02Speaker 3: have to be able to play nine innings, nine innings,
- 12:03Speaker 3: nine innings. I mean, they can't DH him because they
- 12:06Speaker 3: have too many other guys that need to DH. So
- 12:08Speaker 3: it's a weird situation because he didn't go– if he
- 12:10Speaker 3: would have gone on rehab for three, four games and
- 12:13Speaker 3: got a lot of this out of him, then it's like, ah, okay.
- 12:15Speaker 3: But I get why he didn't. He didn't need the at-bats,
- 12:18Speaker 3: and that's a thing. But it's also a fact that
- 12:20Speaker 3: the Yankees knew kind of where they were locked into
- 12:22Speaker 3: their playoff position, so they didn't need him to hurry
- 12:24Speaker 3: back so they were able to build him up at
- 12:27Speaker 3: the big league level. So, yeah, general soreness, it happens.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Or he's got to play three games on turf now, too,
- 12:34Speaker 4: in Arizona. I don't think that's the best for KF either.
- 12:39Speaker 3: So, I don't know.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but the Yankees are going to potentially play the Rays–
- 12:47Speaker 2: In the playoffs.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Isn't that turf?
- 12:51Speaker 4: It is, but I mean, you got to get through
- 12:53Speaker 4: the first three games. Good for the Yankees. It's not
- 12:57Speaker 4: going to be the Astros because they don't like playing
- 13:00Speaker 4: the Astros in the playoffs. But my concern level for
- 13:05Speaker 4: the injury is not high because if he said it happened,
- 13:10Speaker 4: he failed it in the first and he tried to
- 13:12Speaker 4: play through it. It's just a thing that's there. My
- 13:15Speaker 4: concern level is consistent reps out on the field playing
- 13:22Speaker 4: your best baseball as Aaron Judge and 80% of Aaron
- 13:26Speaker 4: Judge is better than a lot of what else you
- 13:28Speaker 4: can put out there I get that but that's my
- 13:31Speaker 4: concern level for a Yankees team that clearly needs him
- 13:34Speaker 4: in the lineup.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Yeah it's not perfect he missed a lot of time
- 13:39Speaker 2: you got to try and figure this out and he's
- 13:41Speaker 2: not the only one but he's.
- 13:42Speaker 1: The Biggest one, the biggest player in the sport that's dealing.
- 13:45Speaker 3: He's the star.
- 13:46Speaker 1: He's the star.
- 13:47Speaker 3: That's why you have to do it. Also, you have
- 13:49Speaker 3: to understand when you're the star, you get, you get
- 13:50Speaker 3: treated differently as we all know. Then if you're just
- 13:53Speaker 3: Joe Schmo, if you're me, you don't get treated the
- 13:55Speaker 3: same way that Aaron judge gets treated. And that's fine.
- 13:57Speaker 3: That's part of, that's part of baseball. That's part of
- 14:01Speaker 3: any job, any job. In what way?
- 14:03Speaker 4: In what way?
- 14:03Speaker 3: The rehab or no rehab? Meaning the rehab and having
- 14:06Speaker 3: to answer questions and all that. There's, there's, there's a
- 14:09Speaker 3: lot more that goes into it. If you're Aaron judge,
- 14:11Speaker 3: then if you're the captain of the team, then you
- 14:13Speaker 3: have to answer more than you do if you're just
- 14:15Speaker 3: the guy, another player, so to speak, right? You have
- 14:20Speaker 3: different responsibilities.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Well, think about it.
- 14:23Speaker 2: How many players are we leading off with on a
- 14:26Speaker 2: show with this type of news?
- 14:29Speaker 3: Shohei.
- 14:32Speaker 4: I mean, even on Shohei's team, Andy Pajes is saying
- 14:34Speaker 4: he's not going on rehab. Sorry, Andy Pajes is not
- 14:39Speaker 4: getting the same. It's the big dogs, the big dogs
- 14:42Speaker 4: that are out there.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And Pinstripe Territory is there for you. Yes, thank you.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Subscribe to it. QR code right corner of the screen.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Great hat from Derek Lewandowski. Knows the Yanks front and back.
- 14:54Speaker 2: And he is on after every single Yankee game live
- 14:57Speaker 2: on YouTube. Hey, we're here while we're talking AL East.
- 15:01Speaker 2: This is a video of Junior Caminero over at third base.
- 15:03Speaker 2: He's still so.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Young, guys.
- 15:05Speaker 2: And, you know, he's gotten knocked for his defense in
- 15:08Speaker 2: the past.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I'm like, he's a baby.
- 15:10Speaker 2: And each of the, this year and last year, he
- 15:12Speaker 2: got much better as the year went on in terms
- 15:14Speaker 2: of defensive metrics. Twitter account running from the OPS was
- 15:19Speaker 2: pointing out, and this might be a day or two
- 15:20Speaker 2: old on the stats, but close enough. The 40 plus homers,
- 15:23Speaker 2: the percentiles in all the hard hit stats, the OPS
- 15:27Speaker 2: plus off the charts, but he said not getting credit
- 15:29Speaker 2: enough for the progressions that he's made on defense with
- 15:33Speaker 2: the Defensive runs saved and the outs above average. Also,
- 15:36Speaker 2: I saw Mike Petriello point this out. Yeah, the last
- 15:38Speaker 2: two years, it's like the first couple months, his number's
- 15:41Speaker 2: pretty bad, and then it gets much better. So overall, though,
- 15:44Speaker 2: if you're looking at even average to above average at
- 15:46Speaker 2: third base, I mean, MVP candidate year after year.
- 15:49Speaker 1: That's what's going to happen here.
- 15:50Speaker 3: He keeps hitting 40-plus homers and playing defense all he has,
- 15:53Speaker 3: and he's improved. I mean, was he 23 years old? Right. Yeah,
- 15:58Speaker 3: he's 23. Like, gosh, I remember– 23, I was like,
- 16:00Speaker 3: I don't need to play defense. And then wham, and
- 16:02Speaker 3: you're like, man, I kind of do have to play defense.
- 16:04Speaker 3: So he's like, as long as I keep raking, it
- 16:06Speaker 3: doesn't matter what I do. But he's not bad over there.
- 16:09Speaker 3: I mean, he's got a cannon, too. If you ever
- 16:10Speaker 3: watch the Rays play, he's got an absolute cannon. If
- 16:12Speaker 3: he catches it, you're out because he's got a freaking bazooka.
- 16:16Speaker 4: The Rays put in the work on defense, infield work.
- 16:20Speaker 4: They're very intentional with it. So if he has the
- 16:22Speaker 4: ability to improve, he seems like a guy that's going
- 16:25Speaker 4: to put the work in to be able to do that.
- 16:28Speaker 4: But also– This is, I mean, this is the case
- 16:30Speaker 4: with really good hitters. How good a defense does he
- 16:34Speaker 4: have to play for them to say.
- 16:36Speaker 3: His defense is caught up to his hitting? Never.
- 16:39Speaker 4: So they're always going to compare his hitting to his defense.
- 16:41Speaker 4: So it's always going to, quote, lag behind.
- 16:44Speaker 1: He's fine over there.
- 16:54Speaker 2: On Deck is presented by the Fox One app, and
- 16:57Speaker 2: that is where you can find the Royals and the
- 16:58Speaker 2: Astros tonight.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Let's start with Houston here.
- 17:01Speaker 2: I mean, we're only going to talk about Houston here.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Sorry, Casey. You're out of it for a while.
- 17:05Speaker 2: We'll talk about Philly a little bit later on, too,
- 17:06Speaker 2: since they're also going to be on the Fox One
- 17:08Speaker 2: app tonight against the Mets. But, A.J., you are stationed
- 17:12Speaker 2: in Houston as our reporter live today for the show.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Can you tell me the pulse of the city now
- 17:17Speaker 2: that the division is kind of tied?
- 17:20Speaker 1: Tied?
- 17:21Speaker 3: It's not kind of tied.
- 17:22Speaker 4: It is tied.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Well, the Astros had the tiebreaker.
- 17:24Speaker 3: I mean, they had the tiebreaker, yeah.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Kind of.
- 17:27Speaker 3: I went to the game. Listen, I never do this,
- 17:29Speaker 3: but I actually went to the stadium last night. I
- 17:31Speaker 3: walked over and talked to like Jeff Blum and Todd
- 17:35Speaker 3: Callis and some of the reporters, you know, Chandler Rome
- 17:39Speaker 3: and some of the reporters over there. And I'm like,
- 17:41Speaker 3: how's it going? And they're like, we got nine more.
- 17:44Speaker 3: We got nine more games. We got to figure out
- 17:46Speaker 3: how to get through nine more games. Or maybe it's
- 17:50Speaker 3: 10 or not. Whatever.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I forget.
- 17:53Speaker 3: But they're like, yeah, this team keeps hanging on. They
- 17:57Speaker 3: keep hanging in there and they keep figuring it out.
- 17:59Speaker 3: That's kind of the pulse when you talk to people
- 18:01Speaker 3: around here. It's like they're at 500, but they're still
- 18:04Speaker 3: in first place. They're still going to the postseason. And
- 18:06Speaker 3: if they were betting, they'd bet on the Astros to
- 18:08Speaker 3: somehow figure out a way to get to the postseason.
- 18:11Speaker 3: That's kind of what the pulse is. They're like, yeah,
- 18:12Speaker 3: they're the Astros. They'll figure out how to sneak in
- 18:14Speaker 3: and maybe do some damage once they're in. But, I mean,
- 18:17Speaker 3: it is a team carried by Jordan Alvarez and Jeremy
- 18:19Speaker 3: Pena right now. Christian Walker is– Been okay. Jose Altuve's
- 18:24Speaker 3: been okay, but I mean, Paredes has been okay, but
- 18:27Speaker 3: it is really Jordan Alvarez and Jeremy Pena and hope
- 18:30Speaker 3: that someone else can figure out a way to get
- 18:31Speaker 3: a hit. And they get enough pitching to get the
- 18:33Speaker 3: ball to Abreu and Hader at the end when Hunter
- 18:35Speaker 3: Brown doesn't pitch. But they honestly are all like, ah,
- 18:38Speaker 3: we're going to figure out a way to get in.
- 18:41Speaker 3: That's good.
- 18:41Speaker 4: I'm glad that the people that have seen this team
- 18:44Speaker 4: the whole year have way more optimism than somebody like
- 18:47Speaker 4: me who just kind of watches and I probably try
- 18:52Speaker 4: to watch every one of Jordan's at-bats. It's been lacking
- 18:55Speaker 4: the last month and a half, but I try because
- 18:58Speaker 4: he is that good. He can change a game. But
- 19:02Speaker 4: to me, it's just a flawed team. Yes, they're in
- 19:06Speaker 4: first place. Nobody would say they played like a first
- 19:09Speaker 4: place team, but they're in first place. Their flaws are...
- 19:13Speaker 4: To the point where Carlos Correa, who's not coming back,
- 19:17Speaker 4: was bantered about that he could possibly be playing another position.
- 19:21Speaker 4: Are they flawed because the guys aren't playing well? Yes,
- 19:24Speaker 4: but they're also flawed because they really didn't have enough
- 19:28Speaker 4: depth to be able to get to where they are now.
- 19:31Speaker 4: And the only reason they have gotten to where they
- 19:33Speaker 4: are now is because of the guys that AJ talked about.
- 19:37Speaker 4: Jordan had an incredible performance. Three and a half months
- 19:40Speaker 4: of the season. Four and a half months of the season.
- 19:42Speaker 4: Can he carry them for these last nine games?
- 19:46Speaker 3: Hopefully.
- 19:46Speaker 4: That ankle isn't worse than what... it really looks like.
- 19:51Speaker 4: But the Astros usually figure it out and the Rangers
- 19:55Speaker 4: aren't that good either. So the pillow fight continues.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:00Speaker 2: So in the past four games for Houston, five through
- 20:04Speaker 2: nine in the order is four for sixty seven.
- 20:08Speaker 3: But at one point, did you see that Jeremy Pena
- 20:11Speaker 3: had like six hits or something in the first two games,
- 20:13Speaker 3: and then the rest of the team had one at
- 20:16Speaker 3: one point, and it was Jordan's two-run homer, and then
- 20:18Speaker 3: finally Paredes got a hit, and they're like, oh, someone
- 20:20Speaker 3: else besides Pena has gotten a hit in this series.
- 20:22Speaker 3: It's pretty amazing. It's just not what you want. It's
- 20:27Speaker 3: not what you want.
- 20:28Speaker 4: It's not what the Astros, Dana Brown, Jim Crane built
- 20:31Speaker 4: this team to be, but the reality is, If you're
- 20:36Speaker 4: in that locker room, you could care less. All you
- 20:38Speaker 4: know is you are in the playoffs today. If you
- 20:42Speaker 4: go head-to-head, if you go 3-6 in your last nine
- 20:47Speaker 4: and the Rangers go 3-6 in their last nine, you're
- 20:50Speaker 4: both in. I mean, you're in. The Rangers go home. Like,
- 20:54Speaker 4: you just have to keep pace with the Rangers. So
- 20:56Speaker 4: there will be some scoreboard watching. And I think there's
- 20:59Speaker 4: one little story, and I hope AJ hits it when
- 21:03Speaker 4: he's talking about this on Fox 1.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Carter Jansen.
- 21:07Speaker 4: I know I shouldn't get away from talking about the Astros,
- 21:10Speaker 4: but the season that Carter Jansen's having, if you look
- 21:14Speaker 4: into it, not just in Royals rookie lore, but catcher rookies,
- 21:19Speaker 4: like he is having an incredible year. And it's pretty
- 21:22Speaker 4: cool to see that in Salve's, you know, coming to
- 21:26Speaker 4: the end of Salve's contract with the Royals.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:30Speaker 3: What do they do with Salve? Salve wants to play.
- 21:33Speaker 3: What do they do with Salve if he wants to
- 21:34Speaker 3: keep playing? That's going to be– I mean, you bring
- 21:39Speaker 3: him back, right, because he's Salve, but then you're like, well,
- 21:42Speaker 3: then we– it's going to cost Carter– I mean, everyone
- 21:45Speaker 3: loves Salve, so it's not like he's not a bad guy.
- 21:48Speaker 3: He's not going to be a bad guy in the clubhouse, but,
- 21:50Speaker 3: I mean, it's like what do we do with Salve?
- 21:52Speaker 3: That's tough. That's tough. This is where it gets awkward, right?
- 21:58Speaker 3: You say it all the time.
- 21:59Speaker 4: A.J., I'd love it to see if this guy or
- 22:01Speaker 4: that guy would be able to stay with their own team,
- 22:03Speaker 4: but that's not the reality. Is it possible that we
- 22:06Speaker 4: could see Salve in a different uniform? But even saying that,
- 22:11Speaker 4: with as much as his offense has slipped this year,
- 22:15Speaker 4: will another team pick him up? Will another team be
- 22:19Speaker 4: willing to have that at first base? Because he's never
- 22:24Speaker 4: been an on-base guy, those types of things. But to me,
- 22:28Speaker 4: I think they bring him back I think they figure
- 22:30Speaker 4: it out because they don't really have a DH. It's
- 22:34Speaker 4: just tough if you're looking for a little more out
- 22:37Speaker 4: of your DH spot in Salve, but the story isn't Salve.
- 22:42Speaker 4: The story is Carter Jansen's rookie year is really incredible.
- 22:46Speaker 4: And I hope you guys can highlight it in the
- 22:48Speaker 4: Fox John tonight.
- 22:52Speaker 2: No, we didn't plan this. And also no, Kratz, we're
- 22:55Speaker 2: not wearing the same exact Mack Weldon shirts. I've got
- 22:57Speaker 2: a green and you've got the Heather blue.
- 23:01Speaker 4: I do.
- 23:01Speaker 3: I do.
- 23:02Speaker 4: And the whole array of colors, there's so many to
- 23:05Speaker 4: choose from with Mack Weldon and not just in your shirts,
- 23:08Speaker 4: in everything that you get.
- 23:10Speaker 2: We also should talk about the Air Knit X collection.
- 23:13Speaker 2: It is soft material. It is a summer staple that
- 23:18Speaker 2: can carry you into the fall. Their lightest fabric fused
- 23:21Speaker 2: with nylon mesh for maximum airflow. And it will take

- 23:52Speaker 1: No, wait, hold up.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Let's go back to that stat board for a moment
- 23:56Speaker 2: because you did bring up a point that's worth mentioning.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Mentioning here, as we went over this saga with Andrew
- 24:01Speaker 2: McCutcheon in the offseason, there's almost zero difference here. Almost
- 24:04Speaker 2: zero difference. The one big difference is that Salvi still has,
- 24:08Speaker 2: as far as I know, one year left on his contract.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Bottom right corner of your screen.
- 24:11Speaker 3: He does.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Okay. Bottom right corner of your screen.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Negative war player.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Negative 1.1.
- 24:15Speaker 2: And if you're DH-ing a lot, you better have that
- 24:18Speaker 2: number at least at 100, but really better than that,
- 24:21Speaker 2: that at the bottom right, weighted runs created plus, which
- 24:23Speaker 2: is like OPS plus, which we talk about frequently on
- 24:25Speaker 2: the show to try and make it easy. to understand
- 24:27Speaker 2: league average offense and all of that, right? Hundreds league average.
- 24:30Speaker 2: So he's well below that.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Okay.
- 24:33Speaker 2: And, and when you look into other metrics like the
- 24:35Speaker 2: chase rate and the bat speed, all of that, it
- 24:38Speaker 2: gets even worse for him.
- 24:40Speaker 1: He wants to play until he's 40. How old is he? 36.
- 24:42Speaker 2: He's not getting close to that. I'm looking at some,
- 24:45Speaker 2: some quotes from some past stories for him. So AJ,
- 24:48Speaker 2: he had a 13 and a half million dollar club
- 24:49Speaker 2: option for 2026. Instead they ripped that up and made
- 24:52Speaker 2: it a two year, $ 25 million deal. That covers 26
- 24:56Speaker 2: and 27 for his ages 36 and 37 seasons. So
- 25:00Speaker 2: in my mind, they have to have him back. He'll
- 25:02Speaker 2: be back next year. They'll hope that the bat comes
- 25:04Speaker 2: around a little bit, and that'll be the final season
- 25:07Speaker 2: for Salvi. If he wants to come back after that, yes,
- 25:09Speaker 2: he'll have to find another team, and it will have
- 25:11Speaker 2: to be coming off a much better year than this
- 25:13Speaker 2: season because this season gets you out of the league
- 25:16Speaker 2: if you're not Salvi Perez.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Yeah. As someone that played until they were 40, I
- 25:20Speaker 3: know how it goes. Trust me.
- 25:22Speaker 4: It ain't.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Once because everyone's waiting for your decline. And as soon
- 25:26Speaker 3: as that decline comes a little bit, they're like, yeah,
- 25:28Speaker 3: he's done. He's too old.
- 25:29Speaker 4: He's done.
- 25:30Speaker 3: And then you got to go in and prove it. Like,
- 25:31Speaker 3: I mean, I remember my agent called me and said, Hey,
- 25:33Speaker 3: we can, you can play next year, but you're going
- 25:35Speaker 3: to have to go on a non-roster invite and try
- 25:37Speaker 3: to make the team. I'm like, I don't really want
- 25:39Speaker 3: to do that. That sounds like it's awful. Like, I
- 25:41Speaker 3: don't want to be that guy, that 40 year old guy,
- 25:43Speaker 3: try begging to make a team. Like, no, I want
- 25:45Speaker 3: to go to a place where they want. And not
- 25:46Speaker 3: the more I thought about it, I was like, yeah,
- 25:48Speaker 3: I don't really want to do that. Not saying that
- 25:49Speaker 3: could happen to Salvi, but, That's kind of where you
- 25:52Speaker 3: get to at a point as a player when you
- 25:54Speaker 3: get to that age because the way the league is
- 25:56Speaker 3: structured now, they are looking for any small decline so
- 26:00Speaker 3: they can say, yeah, he's done. Let's get him out
- 26:02Speaker 3: of here and move on to a young kid.
- 26:04Speaker 4: I don't think they want to get rid of Salve.
- 26:06Speaker 3: No, no, no. I'm not saying that.
- 26:07Speaker 4: No, no, no. They don't want to pay him. The
- 26:10Speaker 4: league just doesn't want to pay him. I think the
- 26:11Speaker 4: league would love to have Salve. And what's wrong with
- 26:14Speaker 4: a 40-year-old just hanging around trying to make a team, A.J.?
- 26:19Speaker 4: I started doing that when I was 30. True.
- 26:24Speaker 1: When you were 30, you were the 40-year-old hanging around.
- 26:26Speaker 4: When I was 30, I was looking for NRI deals.
- 26:31Speaker 3: I would never do that.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Kratz is a trooper. A grinder, as some would say.
- 26:39Speaker 1: A word we haven't used in a minute.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Some wouldn't say that.
- 26:42Speaker 1: No.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Well, Kratz, we need you. We need you on this one.
- 26:44Speaker 2: So the other game on the Fox One app. Tonight,
- 26:47Speaker 2: Phillies and Mets. We know Ken Rosenthal's reporting from that one.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Zach Wheeler coming off seven shutout innings last night. Pitched
- 26:54Speaker 2: really well. That's four in a row good ones for him.
- 26:56Speaker 2: So you can kind of put a checkmark. Like, okay,
- 26:59Speaker 2: he had his little rut.
- 26:59Speaker 1: He's good. He's back.
- 27:01Speaker 2: He's ready for the postseason. So what are we looking
- 27:03Speaker 2: for with the last ten games of the season here
- 27:06Speaker 2: with the Phillies? I know the offense has sputtered a
- 27:08Speaker 2: little bit.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Trying to hold on to the second wild card and
- 27:12Speaker 3: not be the third wild card.
- 27:13Speaker 1: That's what you're looking for.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Because the Padres are like, they win every day, right?
- 27:17Speaker 3: So they're right there. So what are you looking for
- 27:19Speaker 3: in the Phillies? You don't want to be the last
- 27:21Speaker 3: wild card. Although then you get to play the Braves,
- 27:23Speaker 3: which depending on how you look at it could be
- 27:25Speaker 3: good or bad. I mean, it's like this Philly team
- 27:28Speaker 3: is unbelievable. You don't know what you're going to get.
- 27:30Speaker 3: It's like Wheeler will go out and deal and they
- 27:33Speaker 3: won't score, right? Or Sanchez will go out and like
- 27:35Speaker 3: he didn't have a great start the other day against
- 27:37Speaker 3: the Nats. You lose Lizardo. Nola's been good, but Then
- 27:42Speaker 3: there's days where the offense just doesn't show up. It's like, wow,
- 27:44Speaker 3: what are we getting with this Phillies team? That's the question.
- 27:47Speaker 3: And for me, I mean, do they match up better
- 27:49Speaker 3: with the Braves than the Cubs? I guess. Geez, I
- 27:52Speaker 3: don't know which one they match up better with.
- 27:54Speaker 4: It doesn't matter. If you get 13 walks and only
- 27:58Speaker 4: score three runs, it doesn't matter what team you're playing with.
- 28:01Speaker 4: So what do you want to see in the last games?
- 28:03Speaker 4: If you're a Phillies fan, you want to see this
- 28:06Speaker 4: team break out their game bats. And whatever it is
- 28:09Speaker 4: they're putting out there right now, Ain't it with the lineup?
- 28:14Speaker 1: Yeah, good call.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Hey, so you can watch that tonight if you're a frantic,
- 28:18Speaker 2: nervous Philly fan or if you're in the same boat
- 28:21Speaker 2: with the Astros just trying to make the playoffs and
- 28:23Speaker 2: win the division and the whole thing. It's on the
- 28:24Speaker 2: Fox One app. It's the Thursday games here that are running.
- 28:27Speaker 2: They're exclusively on there, Fox and the Fox One app.
- 28:30Speaker 2: You can catch AJ. You can stream it at home,
- 28:33Speaker 2: on the go, live or on demand. Start your Fox
- 28:35Speaker 2: One three-day free trial today at foxone.com. Kratz, did you
- 28:40Speaker 2: see Sandy Alcantara racking up his first save in his
- 28:43Speaker 2: career and also his first relief appearance in a minute?
- 28:46Speaker 2: I mean, can you scream it any louder that the
- 28:50Speaker 2: Marlins are going to try to trade him this offseason?
- 28:55Speaker 4: I have a hard time believing he didn't say, I
- 28:58Speaker 4: want this. I've interacted with Sandy Alcantara one time, and
- 29:04Speaker 4: there is a zero selfish bone in this guy's body.
- 29:07Speaker 4: He has tattooed on his arm Six plus four plus
- 29:11Speaker 4: three equals two. Like the things he, like now players
- 29:15Speaker 4: his age that are in the game have tattooed on
- 29:18Speaker 4: their arm, punch out, punch out, punch out. And like this,
- 29:23Speaker 4: I don't know. Him coming out and getting this save,
- 29:25Speaker 4: it means a lot to him. Pete Fairbanks is down.
- 29:28Speaker 4: He's like, I'm ready. This is what we do in
- 29:30Speaker 4: the playoffs. Golly, I would love to see this dude
- 29:34Speaker 4: on a team in the playoffs. He wants to do
- 29:36Speaker 4: it as a Marlin, I think. He doesn't have a
- 29:38Speaker 4: choice if.
- 29:38Speaker 3: They trade him.
- 29:41Speaker 1: True.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Good dude. Good dude. Wants the ball, takes the ball,
- 29:44Speaker 3: doesn't want to give the ball up. It's such a
- 29:47Speaker 3: refreshing thing for us old-timers, Kratz, us old people that
- 29:51Speaker 3: just can't get off my lawn enough. No, Sandy's awesome, man.
- 29:55Speaker 3: He seems like the ultimate teammate. He seems like a
- 29:58Speaker 3: guy that you just want to play with, that people
- 30:00Speaker 3: want to play with. He just seems like one of
- 30:02Speaker 3: those guys.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Rare pitcher leader. Maybe we can ask Pedro this later,
- 30:07Speaker 4: but a rare pitcher leader. It doesn't happen, but you
- 30:13Speaker 4: know as well as anybody, there are certain guys that
- 30:15Speaker 4: they get on that fringe of like, wow, everybody.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Looks up to this guy. Why?
- 30:20Speaker 4: Because he gets after it every single day, even though
- 30:23Speaker 4: he only plays once every five days.
- 30:25Speaker 3: He's a punter, but.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Alcantara helped spoil the season for the Diamondbacks. They're in
- 30:34Speaker 2: bad range now. Four in the loss column. They're in
- 30:37Speaker 2: a bad spot. Just about cooked.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Time is running out. They did everything they could. They
- 30:45Speaker 3: did everything they could.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Diamondbacks lose Padres 1.
- 30:50Speaker 4: Corbin Carroll's step back looks like it is hurting. He
- 30:52Speaker 4: even hit the walk-off, but some of his swings, he's like,
- 30:56Speaker 4: it looks like he's like, pushing through. Everybody's pushing through
- 30:59Speaker 4: right now, but it's tough when your team keeps losing
- 31:03Speaker 4: heartbreakers to teams you should beat.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and Padres thumped the Rockies. Two homers for Ethan
- 31:09Speaker 2: Salas stood out quite a bit, too. 20 years old
- 31:13Speaker 2: and youngest catcher ever to have a multi-homer game. Hey,
- 31:18Speaker 2: Eamon Grant said one crazy scenario, which has the Rangers,
- 31:22Speaker 2: the Astros, the Guardians, the White Sox, all with the
- 31:24Speaker 2: same exact records. That would mean AL West Central and
- 31:29Speaker 2: wildcard spots locked up. Would mean Astros get the West,
- 31:33Speaker 2: White Sox get the AL Central. These are by winning
- 31:36Speaker 2: the season series against the teams right below them or
- 31:39Speaker 2: tied with them. And then the Rangers would get the
- 31:41Speaker 2: third wildcard because they won the season series against the Guardians.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Does that help you guys at all?
- 31:47Speaker 2: Also, on the flip side, if the Rangers White Sox
- 31:49Speaker 2: finish tied for final wild card, White Sox win by
- 31:51Speaker 2: virtue of owning the season series against the Rangers.
- 31:54Speaker 1: So, A.J., that helps a little bit for your White Sox.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Can I just say the White Sox are going to
- 31:58Speaker 3: make it? Have I said that yet? Have I said
- 32:00Speaker 3: the White Sox are going to make it? They have
- 32:01Speaker 3: all the tiebreakers. They've got all the tiebreakers.
- 32:04Speaker 1: They've got to win some games, though.
- 32:07Speaker 3: You've got ten games left. Go six and four. You're
- 32:09Speaker 3: in the postseason. Six and four against the Rockies, the Royals,
- 32:12Speaker 3: and the Tigers, three teams that are not in it.
- 32:16Speaker 2: If you don't go six and four against those three
- 32:19Speaker 2: teams heading into the playoffs when momentum matters, I think
- 32:23Speaker 2: nobody will go, damn, they got screwed at the buzzer.
- 32:26Speaker 2: That is about as soft as it gets.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Am I right?
- 32:29Speaker 3: They play four at home, starting the night with the Tigers.
- 32:32Speaker 3: They go to Kansas City for three, and then they
- 32:34Speaker 3: finish with three at home against the Rockies. You've got
- 32:38Speaker 3: to be able to win six of those. If you
- 32:39Speaker 3: win six of those, excuse me, you're in the playoffs.
- 32:43Speaker 3: One way or another, wild card or winning the division.
- 32:46Speaker 4: I want game 163. That's all I want. I know
- 32:49Speaker 4: it's not there. I have to say it. I played
- 32:51Speaker 4: in a game 163. AJ, you did at least once,
- 32:55Speaker 4: maybe twice.
- 32:56Speaker 3: I played in two of them.
- 32:58Speaker 2: The league killed it.
- 32:59Speaker 3: This would be the time to have it. Oh, Steve
- 33:01Speaker 3: Murakami hit a jinger. Slaughtered. Slaughtered.
- 33:07Speaker 1: Here we go. By the way, AJ left.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Why?
- 33:11Speaker 2: Because he's going to call a game very soon. So
- 33:13Speaker 2: if you want to go to that game in Houston,
- 33:15Speaker 2: you can do it. SeatGeek is the spot to check
- 33:18Speaker 2: that out. What else do we like here, Kratz? I mean,
- 33:21Speaker 2: we got to talk White Sox for a second while
- 33:22Speaker 2: AJ's not here. Tigers, White Sox, grab me a ticket
- 33:25Speaker 2: to that bad boy with Fran Brevalda's going up tonight
- 33:27Speaker 2: against the Sox for game one of that.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Little back and forth.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Also, I mean, this one might not have been circled
- 33:35Speaker 2: on your calendar a few weeks ago or even at
- 33:38Speaker 2: the beginning of the season, but A's Guardians in Cleveland. Yes, please.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Guardians fans, you better show up. It's more fun than
- 33:47Speaker 2: going to a Browns game.
- 33:49Speaker 4: I mean, you have to, you have to show up.
- 33:51Speaker 4: Like your team has done the exact same thing they
- 33:54Speaker 4: did last year. I think the Tigers collapsed last year
- 33:57Speaker 4: was bigger, but they ended up running down the Tigers and.
- 34:00Speaker 3: Winning the division.
- 34:01Speaker 4: Are they going to do it again? Is Steven Vogt
- 34:04Speaker 4: going to win manager of the year again because of
- 34:07Speaker 4: what he does with the roster that he doesn't have?
- 34:10Speaker 4: Like I, I don't know, but if you ain't showing
- 34:13Speaker 4: up for those games, I don't know what you're showing
- 34:15Speaker 4: up for. But who had that circled?
- 34:18Speaker 3: Gee, I wonder.
- 34:19Speaker 4: Guardians Athletics. Athletics are playing some really good baseball. They're
- 34:23Speaker 4: 5-5 in their last 10. So that's above average for
- 34:27Speaker 4: the Athletics. But they could play spoiler here, too. They've
- 34:30Speaker 4: already beaten a couple teams that Mariners absolutely knocked them
- 34:34Speaker 4: out of the playoffs by the soft underbelly of their schedule.
- 34:39Speaker 4: Athletics aren't going to roll over, even if they have,
- 34:41Speaker 4: you know, a quarter of their starting lineup out there
- 34:44Speaker 4: right now.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. The A's know how to end a season.
- 34:47Speaker 1: They did it well.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Hey, the Marlins can play significant spoilers. Sandy, are you
- 34:51Speaker 2: going to come out of the pen a little bit
- 34:53Speaker 2: more here now?
- 34:54Speaker 1: I mean, I'm joking. I'm sure. I don't know. When's
- 34:56Speaker 1: his next start, by the way?
- 34:57Speaker 2: Is he starting in this Padres series maybe?
- 35:00Speaker 3: It should start Sunday.
- 35:01Speaker 4: I thought it said he was going to start Sunday.
- 35:04Speaker 1: So, Marlins-Padres.
- 35:06Speaker 4: I don't know who the Marlins play. I should have
- 35:07Speaker 4: looked who they play on Monday.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Marlins-Padres. No, no.
- 35:10Speaker 4: I know they play the Padres. You know Sandy wants
- 35:13Speaker 4: to make that start. There's no way he's like, eh,
- 35:16Speaker 4: I'll wait until Monday to pitch. No, he wants to
- 35:18Speaker 4: pitch against the best teams.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Agreed, yes.
- 35:21Speaker 2: And that game, those games, Marlins and Padres, taking place
- 35:25Speaker 2: in San Diego. So if you're out there and you
- 35:26Speaker 2: want a little action, you want to watch the game,
- 35:29Speaker 2: Territory 10, 10% off MLB tickets. You use SeatGeek, which
- 35:33Speaker 2: is the official ticket marketplace of Major League Baseball, and
- 35:36Speaker 2: that's the spot where you pay, you get the seat
- 35:39Speaker 2: you want, You get help with how to find that seat,
- 35:41Speaker 2: and the seat's right into your account right away. Go
- 35:44Speaker 2: for it, FT fam. Hey, John Heyman tweeted that David
- 35:48Speaker 2: Ross was being asked about the Mets open manager job,
- 35:51Speaker 2: and he said he'd answer the phone. And I think
- 35:53Speaker 2: it also just opens the conversation of how many manager
- 35:57Speaker 2: openings there will be. David Ross, I'm actually surprised. He
- 36:02Speaker 2: hasn't landed with a team. He's waiting for a phone call.
- 36:04Speaker 2: He clearly wants to get back into it. So maybe
- 36:06Speaker 2: this is the year, 27.
- 36:09Speaker 4: Have you ever heard anybody besides me say, don't call me,
- 36:13Speaker 4: I don't want to manage that team? Like dudes that
- 36:16Speaker 4: are out there that are like, hey, I want to manage.
- 36:20Speaker 4: Rarely are you going to say, maybe if it's like
- 36:23Speaker 4: the Nats job that just came up, I think there's
- 36:25Speaker 4: experienced managers that would be like, I'm good. I'm not
- 36:28Speaker 4: really into a rebuild. But there's only 30 of those jobs.
- 36:32Speaker 4: And if you have this burning desire to be a
- 36:35Speaker 4: manager in the big leagues.
- 36:39Speaker 4: Yeah, you take the Mets job, but it ain't all,
- 36:42Speaker 4: it ain't all it's cracked up to be. You, you
- 36:44Speaker 4: gotta be willing to take a little bit of heat
- 36:46Speaker 4: because you are, but he's been through the grind. He
- 36:48Speaker 4: was a manager.
- 36:49Speaker 3: He got fired because he didn't get fired.
- 36:51Speaker 4: He just got, he got replaced because they wanted somebody
- 36:55Speaker 4: else that had had success against his team. And so
- 37:01Speaker 4: they were like, sure, yeah, we'll take Craig counsel and
- 37:03Speaker 4: we'll pay him more. So yeah, I mean, I, I
- 37:05Speaker 4: have a hard time believing that, David Ross doesn't find
- 37:08Speaker 4: a job. I don't know if the Mets job is
- 37:11Speaker 4: going to be his, though. Just my opinion. No facts
- 37:15Speaker 4: behind it. I just am not sure that will be
- 37:17Speaker 4: his shtick.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got Alex Cora to the Mets in the
- 37:24Speaker 2: offseason to manage. That's my pick.
- 37:28Speaker 1: I feel pretty strongly about it.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Okay.
- 37:32Speaker 1: Just throwing that out there. It's been thrown out.
- 37:34Speaker 6: There, too.
- 37:36Speaker 4: I'll divulge my pick once we really break.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Down the managers.
- 37:41Speaker 1: You have a different name?
- 37:43Speaker 4: Just a different name.
- 37:44Speaker 3: You got to remember who's around. Is it an informed name?
- 37:46Speaker 2: Or is it just, hey, I think there's a fit here?
- 37:49Speaker 3: No, no, I think it's a fit. I think it's
- 37:50Speaker 3: a fit.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Okay. Mine has a little bit of informed to it. Okay.
- 37:56Speaker 1: I can't reveal my sources. You know me.
- 37:58Speaker 7: No, no, I don't.
- 38:00Speaker 1: There's a little bit of informed action there.
- 38:02Speaker 3: I like that.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 38:04Speaker 4: Dave Dombrowski drives a hard bargain.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Just saying.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Oh, I know. So you're saying Phillies versus Mets for Cora?
- 38:16Speaker 3: Just saying.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 38:19Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 38:22Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 38:23Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 38:28Speaker 1: I like this. Appreciate what you're watching.
- 38:31Speaker 2: And you can appreciate what you're watching if you're a
- 38:34Speaker 2: front office by making sure the Cubs are in a
- 38:36Speaker 2: good position to try and capitalize on what they have
- 38:38Speaker 2: this year in the playoffs. I think they did a
- 38:41Speaker 2: nice job there by picking up not one, but two
- 38:43Speaker 2: starters in Gossman and Clay Holmes, right? We're talking about
- 38:47Speaker 2: PCA here. I mean, this is a ridiculous season and
- 38:50Speaker 2: you want to keep riding a momentum that he is
- 38:52Speaker 2: carrying right now into October, right? If he keeps this
- 38:55Speaker 2: up for another week and a half. I mean, he
- 38:56Speaker 2: had two homers and a triple last night. So Let's
- 38:59Speaker 2: get some sound here from Craig Council. This was on
- 39:02Speaker 2: marquee postgame.
- 39:04Speaker 7: You're shaking your head in amazement at sometimes, in amazement. And,
- 39:08Speaker 7: you know, you don't get to see this. Like, that's
- 39:11Speaker 7: what I told Alex. I said, Alex, you don't get
- 39:13Speaker 7: to see things like this. Like, you know, we've spent
- 39:16Speaker 7: your whole life in baseball, and you just don't see
- 39:18Speaker 7: this happen on a baseball field. And so, you know, you're–
- 39:25Speaker 7: grateful to be a part of it. You're grateful to
- 39:27Speaker 7: see things like this. And then you're grateful for the
- 39:30Speaker 7: the fans get to see a season like this because
- 39:31Speaker 7: they're going to talk about it. They're going to tell
- 39:34Speaker 7: their kids about it. They're going to tell their grandkids
- 39:36Speaker 7: about it, seasons like this.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Yeah, J.R.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Ritchie had a tough time with Bregman and PCA last night.
- 39:42Speaker 2: And then Shota Imanaga was great, actually, against an aggressive
- 39:45Speaker 2: Braves lineup. And that's a good sign for the Cubs,
- 39:48Speaker 2: even if they're not going to let him go third
- 39:49Speaker 2: time through in the playoffs. The first two times, if
- 39:51Speaker 2: they look like that. I mean, he ended up going
- 39:54Speaker 2: six innings, one run, four hits, eight punch outs. But
- 39:57Speaker 2: back to PCA. Best center fielder in the sport. If
- 40:03Speaker 2: you want to debate on positions, you can make the
- 40:05Speaker 2: case best defender in the sport, right?
- 40:08Speaker 1: Now taking pitches, you don't want.
- 40:10Speaker 2: To walk them if possible. I mean, sometimes maybe, but
- 40:13Speaker 2: he's definitely not easy to deal with on the basis.
- 40:16Speaker 2: And then if you're trying to pitch to him and
- 40:19Speaker 2: even if you get ahead, I think both homers last night,
- 40:21Speaker 2: I mean, I'm watching a million games. I think both homers,
- 40:23Speaker 2: he was down. I think one was Oh two and
- 40:25Speaker 2: one was Oh one. Like it's, it's the mix of
- 40:29Speaker 2: I'm spitting my eyes getting better. I'm going to take
- 40:31Speaker 2: some pitches, but also I'm not afraid to make contact with,
- 40:35Speaker 2: with my ACE wing with authority.
- 40:38Speaker 1: And hit homers in what? He's got, what are we at? 43?
- 40:42Speaker 6: 44.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Oh, he.
- 40:45Speaker 3: Had two last night. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:48Speaker 1: 44. So 44 home runs.
- 40:49Speaker 2: Anyway, my point is, you're the catcher here, right? You're
- 40:53Speaker 2: going into a playoff series against PCA. Some of the
- 40:57Speaker 2: things I just mentioned are in your head here. And
- 40:59Speaker 2: if you're focusing on how to get them out at
- 41:01Speaker 2: the plate, it's gotten so much tougher this year.
- 41:05Speaker 3: It's gotten so much tougher.
- 41:07Speaker 4: Anytime you don't have the swing decisions around the edge,
- 41:13Speaker 4: it's not red around the edge. He shrinks the area
- 41:17Speaker 4: where he's doing damage. I would have been a really
- 41:20Speaker 4: good hitter if I only swung in the middle. That
- 41:24Speaker 4: is the superpower that I wish I could teach every
- 41:28Speaker 4: kid to do. And you look at PCA and you're
- 41:31Speaker 4: like 6'1, 185, runs. not going to really do much
- 41:36Speaker 4: power damage to you. He's doing damage. He's hit 44 homers, doubles, triples, 37.
- 41:44Speaker 4: He's going to have 40 bags by the end of
- 41:46Speaker 4: the year. He's doing everything that puts fear in the
- 41:51Speaker 4: lineup or fear in the opposing pitcher. And Council was
- 41:56Speaker 4: exactly right, except Council has seen this. Council has seen
- 42:01Speaker 4: this exact same thing. not the elite defense in center field,
- 42:06Speaker 4: but in 2018, what Christian Yelich did from August to September,
- 42:11Speaker 4: I think he hit 400 in September. He almost, he
- 42:14Speaker 4: got run down by Nolan Arenado for the triple crown.
- 42:18Speaker 4: He almost won the triple crown and people rarely even
- 42:21Speaker 4: talk about it because Nolan hit two homers in the
- 42:23Speaker 4: last day. He single-handedly carried us to the playoffs in
- 42:27Speaker 4: those months. And that was the most impressive thing. So
- 42:30Speaker 4: for council, to either A, have forgotten from eight years ago,
- 42:34Speaker 4: or B, think this is better. It shows you what P.
- 42:39Speaker 4: Crow Armstrong has been doing this year.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Yeah, total package.
- 42:44Speaker 2: And they've been talking about him all season long on
- 42:46Speaker 2: the show. You see bottom corner of the screen there,
- 42:47Speaker 2: Northside Territory. So if you want a little bit more
- 42:49Speaker 2: on what's happening with the Cubs, go check out Patrick
- 42:52Speaker 2: Antahadev on the show. Plus, oh, how can I forget?
- 42:56Speaker 2: John Lester, regular contributor on Northside Territory.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Injuries suck. Just a quickie here.
- 43:07Speaker 2: I mean, some shows we don't talk about the Dodgers
- 43:10Speaker 2: at all, and then they kind of force you. They
- 43:12Speaker 2: kind of bring you back in, Kratz. They do have
- 43:14Speaker 2: a lot of injury action going on right now. Fabian
- 43:16Speaker 2: Ardaia from The Athletic, who's been on the show plenty,
- 43:20Speaker 2: with this tweet. Dave Roberts said, Edwin Diaz will be
- 43:23Speaker 2: active tomorrow. This is the one I want to ask
- 43:24Speaker 2: you about. He's going to pitch in low leverage tomorrow.
- 43:26Speaker 2: They also plan to activate Andy Pius, this homestand, without
- 43:30Speaker 2: a rehab assignment. If you want more on that, Kratz
- 43:32Speaker 2: mentioned it at the top of the show, or at
- 43:34Speaker 2: least this fact, right? There's only postseason play after Sunday
- 43:40Speaker 2: for OKC, which is AAA for the Dodgers. And then
- 43:43Speaker 2: Shohei Otani is feeling normal-ish, said Dave Roberts, continues to progress.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Back to the top.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Hey, I don't remember if it was you and AJ
- 43:51Speaker 2: or just AJ, but I was like, Edwin Diaz is
- 43:54Speaker 2: going to have to do some low leverage.
- 43:56Speaker 1: You can't just throw him into this, right? Do you
- 43:59Speaker 1: remember when I was saying that?
- 44:00Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 44:01Speaker 4: No, no.
- 44:01Speaker 3: I remember you saying that.
- 44:02Speaker 2: And you guys were like, well, he needs adrenaline. I'm like, well,
- 44:05Speaker 2: I don't care at this point. There's a week and
- 44:06Speaker 2: change to go in the season. So let's see if
- 44:09Speaker 2: he can pitch in low leverage. And if he needs
- 44:12Speaker 2: the adrenaline, I'm sorry. We can't wait for you and
- 44:16Speaker 2: try you out in the late stages of a game
- 44:18Speaker 2: right now.
- 44:19Speaker 1: We don't have time for that.
- 44:22Speaker 4: I think they might have time. If they don't ever
- 44:24Speaker 4: catch the Brewers, I think they're two games back of
- 44:26Speaker 4: the Brewers for the best record. That's the last thing
- 44:29Speaker 4: they're really going for, but also the Braves trying to
- 44:31Speaker 4: catch them. I think that's getting a little farther. But
- 44:36Speaker 4: I'm saying the adrenaline because I think it was Papelbon
- 44:39Speaker 4: that we had on. It was either Papelbon or I forget.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Was it Pete Fairbanks? I'm not sure. We had a
- 44:45Speaker 4: closer on saying it, so I'm going to defer to
- 44:47Speaker 4: whichever pitcher, and it would be better if I knew
- 44:50Speaker 4: who said it. Whichever pitcher said that, like that adrenaline
- 44:55Speaker 4: is a big thing. That's why I think some pitchers
- 44:58Speaker 4: do better in the playoffs.
- 44:59Speaker 3: Some don't.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Some pitchers do better in the ninth inning than others
- 45:03Speaker 4: because they're used to that adrenaline. It's not because they're
- 45:06Speaker 4: just like, well, I'm just calm. It's because they are
- 45:10Speaker 4: able to harness that superpower. Adrenaline is a superpower for everybody.
- 45:14Speaker 4: Some people view it as fear. Others view it as, oh.
- 45:19Speaker 4: I felt terrible. Here it comes. I think, honestly, you
- 45:23Speaker 4: can look at a lot of mechanics with Edwin. I
- 45:25Speaker 4: saw somebody broke down his mechanics and the things that
- 45:28Speaker 4: have changed. His lower arm slot. So what is causing that? Ultimately,
- 45:35Speaker 4: this is what Dave Roberts gets paid $ 8 million a
- 45:38Speaker 4: year to decide. Is he going to be a viable piece?
- 45:41Speaker 4: Or are they just going to throw Yamamoto at the
- 45:44Speaker 4: start of a game and then close the next two
- 45:46Speaker 4: out like it's a high school game?
- 45:52Speaker 2: They'll get crafty if they need to. You know, the
- 45:53Speaker 2: other thing that they do that I think is weird
- 45:56Speaker 2: to watch, but it worked for them, what, two years ago?
- 46:00Speaker 2: I mean, they'll not throw a game, but they'll play
- 46:03Speaker 2: a game out thinking about the long term in a series.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Is that the right way to put it?
- 46:09Speaker 3: Man, that is a tough. Okay, we can say that.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Not from the jump.
- 46:13Speaker 3: I'm saying because they won.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Yeah, with your strategy.
- 46:17Speaker 3: Because they won.
- 46:18Speaker 4: Yeah, they're going to throw a Will Klein out there
- 46:22Speaker 4: who ended up giving them a ton of innings and
- 46:24Speaker 4: it kept them. They make the move that I think
- 46:26Speaker 4: keeps them around in the game where I think some
- 46:29Speaker 4: other managers will be like, We've.
- 46:32Speaker 3: Got to unload our clip right here. If we don't,
- 46:35Speaker 3: it's just never.
- 46:35Speaker 4: And I think Dave Roberts does a good job of it.
- 46:38Speaker 4: I was involved in the 2018 playoffs where it was
- 46:41Speaker 4: kind of like, look, of the next three games, we
- 46:44Speaker 4: have to win two. What gives us the best chance?
- 46:46Speaker 4: And I think Dave Roberts does a really good– the
- 46:49Speaker 4: organization does a really good job of that. It's not
- 46:51Speaker 4: punting any games. It's just you understanding what's in front
- 46:56Speaker 4: of you.
- 46:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:58Speaker 2: Two years ago, they had some tough decisions to make, right?
- 47:01Speaker 2: They didn't have the starting staff. And I thought that
- 47:04Speaker 2: the way Doc managed the postseason during that run was
- 47:09Speaker 2: incredibly impressive.
- 47:11Speaker 4: Better than last year?
- 47:13Speaker 1: Oh, his managing style?
- 47:15Speaker 2: Yes. Last year was like, I've got four horses.
- 47:18Speaker 1: You thought last year was better?
- 47:20Speaker 4: I thought both were very impressive decisions. In two completely
- 47:24Speaker 4: different ways of handling a staff. And he deserves way
- 47:28Speaker 4: more credit, I think, than what he actually gets for
- 47:30Speaker 4: what he did in back-to-back years.
- 47:32Speaker 2: They barely won last year, too, which is crazy. I mean,
- 47:35Speaker 2: if IKF has a normal lead, as they always say,
- 47:37Speaker 2: they lose.
- 47:38Speaker 4: Without a closer. Without really any other setup guy. You
- 47:43Speaker 4: lost your setup guy for the World Series. Name a
- 47:47Speaker 4: team that can do that.
- 47:48Speaker 3: Even the Padres. The Padres lose Mori Home going into
- 47:51Speaker 3: the World Series. Oh, cooked.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Like that's just, that's tough. And Dave Roberts deserves a
- 47:59Speaker 4: lot of credit.
- 48:00Speaker 1: I'm with you.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Do we have the javelin thing on the way out here?
- 48:04Speaker 2: And then you can take it right to break. It's
- 48:06Speaker 2: a Yamamoto teaching Scoogle how to throw the javelin. We
- 48:10Speaker 2: haven't talked about the javelin in a while. Clearly it
- 48:14Speaker 2: works for some people like the 2025 legend.
- 48:19Speaker 1: That is Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
- 48:21Speaker 3: So.
- 48:22Speaker 1: If not, we can run it in slap hands. You
- 48:24Speaker 1: can tell me. We can go as we go. Yeah,
- 48:26Speaker 1: let's break. Maybe we'll find it for slap.
- 48:27Speaker 3: Oh, there it is.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Okay. Scooble's jacked, by the way. A lot of sleeveless
- 48:33Speaker 2: action from Derek.
- 48:35Speaker 4: Not a small person. I wouldn't say jacked. He's pitcher big.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Pitcher jacked.
- 48:41Speaker 4: He's pitcher big. That's a body that's going to stay
- 48:45Speaker 4: healthy because you can't pull fat. Everybody's career is marked
- 49:01Speaker 4: by different milestones. This was the day I got called
- 49:05Speaker 4: up for the Phillies, September 17th, 2011. So 15 years ago,
- 49:07Speaker 4: we won the National League East on September 17th. So
- 49:16Speaker 4: I didn't have anything to do with it, but I got.
- 49:18Speaker 3: Called up to the Phillies my childhood.
- 49:20Speaker 4: Team it was my second big league call up I'd
- 49:23Speaker 4: spent the year in AAA and that's me and my
- 49:25Speaker 4: wife on this date 15 years ago popping a little
- 49:30Speaker 4: champagne I made sure I stayed out of the way
- 49:32Speaker 4: of all the other guys celebrating who had actually played
- 49:34Speaker 4: there the entire season.
- 49:36Speaker 2: That's a great picture that's a great picture You guys
- 49:40Speaker 2: are cute.
- 49:40Speaker 1: You cute little young couple back then. I love it.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Wait.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
