- 0:00Speaker 1: I am Sherri Mackey, and it's time for us to
- 0:03Speaker 1: go to God in prayer. And as always, I invite
- 0:05Speaker 1: you to join along with me in prayer. And on
- 0:08Speaker 1: this Columbus. day, I want to pray that the Lord
- 0:12Speaker 1: would heal our history and guide our future. Father God,
- 0:15Speaker 1: in the mighty, matchless, and powerful name of Jesus, we
- 0:19Speaker 1: come before you today with humbled hearts, recognizing that you
- 0:23Speaker 1: are the creator of every nation, every tribe, every people,
- 0:27Speaker 1: every generation. Your word reminds us in Acts 17, 26.
- 0:31Speaker 1: that you made all the nations from one blood. Therefore, Lord,
- 0:35Speaker 1: every human life has value. Every person deserves dignity and
- 0:39Speaker 1: every community matters to you. Father, as our nation observes
- 0:44Speaker 1: Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day, help us to approach
- 0:48Speaker 1: this day with wisdom, with compassion and willingness to acknowledge
- 0:53Speaker 1: our history honestly. We recognize the courage, the exploration, and
- 0:57Speaker 1: events that shaped this country, while also remembering the indigenous
- 1:01Speaker 1: people whose lives, lands, cultures, and communities were profoundly affected
- 1:06Speaker 1: by colonization. Lord, where there has been pain, you bring
- 1:10Speaker 1: the healing. Where there's been injustice, you lead us toward
- 1:13Speaker 1: what's right. Where there's been misunderstanding, open our hearts to listen.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And where the wounds of history continue to affect us,
- 1:20Speaker 1: generations give us the courage to face the truth and
- 1:24Speaker 1: the grace to pursue reconciliation father help us never to
- 1:28Speaker 1: become so focused on celebrating our accomplishments that we forget
- 1:32Speaker 1: the suffering of other people teach us that acknowledging painful
- 1:36Speaker 1: history does not have to divide us it can challenge
- 1:39Speaker 1: us to become more compassionate more responsible and more committed God,
- 1:44Speaker 1: we pray for indigenous communities across this nation, strengthen their families,
- 1:48Speaker 1: preserve their cultures and languages, honor the wisdom of their
- 1:51Speaker 1: elders and protect the opportunities and futures of their children. God,
- 1:55Speaker 1: let their voices be heard, their dignity respected and their
- 1:59Speaker 1: contributions recognized. Lord, we also pray for America. Help us
- 2:03Speaker 1: become a nation that learns from the past rather than
- 2:07Speaker 1: repeat the mistakes of our past. Give our leaders wisdom, God.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Give our communities understanding and our citizens the courage to
- 2:16Speaker 1: stand against hatred, against prejudice, against discrimination. Your word declares
- 2:20Speaker 1: in Micah 6 and 8 that you require us to
- 2:23Speaker 1: act justly, Love mercy and walk humbly with you. Let
- 2:27Speaker 1: that be more than a scripture we quote. Let it
- 2:30Speaker 1: become the way we live. Father, unite us without asking
- 2:33Speaker 1: us to ignore our differences. Teach us to honor God
- 2:37Speaker 1: one another without diminishing anyone's story. Help us to build
- 2:41Speaker 1: a future where truth is welcomed, justice is pursued, mercy
- 2:45Speaker 1: is extended, and every person is treated with dignity. God,
- 2:49Speaker 1: let this day remind us that our history is complex.
- 2:53Speaker 1: but our responsibility is real, and our hope for a
- 2:56Speaker 1: better tomorrow must be built on truth, on compassion, and love. Lord,
- 3:01Speaker 1: heal our history, guide our present, and direct our future
- 3:04Speaker 1: in Jesus' name. Amen.
