- 0:00Speaker 1: A & M loses to Kentucky. Alabama, I thought, stole
- 0:04Speaker 1: Kentucky's soul last week in that second half. And all
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kentucky did was go down to Kyle Field and score
- 0:10Speaker 1: 31 points on Texas A & M. Cole, I'm not
- 0:16Speaker 1: even going to give you a lead-in. Just go ahead.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Good freaking God. Number one, the child of Kentucky. Kentucky
- 0:23Speaker 2: was able to learn from their mistakes, and they went
- 0:25Speaker 2: into College Station, and as Mike Elko said... They kicked
- 0:29Speaker 2: our ass. Yes, they did. Great culture, great identity, and great,
- 0:35Speaker 2: I think, future in Lexington with the guy that you
- 0:38Speaker 2: have as your head coach. Totally understandable. But we're talking
- 0:42Speaker 2: Texas A & M for a minute. Texas A &
- 0:43Speaker 2: M has right now answered every single one of my
- 0:47Speaker 2: questions that I had going into the year for all
- 0:50Speaker 2: the wrong reasons. I questioned if this offensive line was
- 0:53Speaker 2: going to be good with four starters that you brought
- 0:55Speaker 2: on in from the SEC. It has not been good.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I question if Texas A & M' s secondary was going
- 1:00Speaker 2: to be able to handle if the pass rush wasn't
- 1:03Speaker 2: as potent this year. Pass rush has not been able
- 1:05Speaker 2: to get in the backfield consistently, which is why you've
- 1:08Speaker 2: seen Arizona State, which is why you've seen Kentucky, be
- 1:11Speaker 2: able to be in third and management situations. And then
- 1:13Speaker 2: the wide receivers break on open. I had questions if
- 1:16Speaker 2: Marcel Reed, if it's a coordinator, would be able to
- 1:19Speaker 2: look the part. I don't want to blame all on
- 1:21Speaker 2: Holman Wiggins because eventually at some point you have to
- 1:23Speaker 2: say the players on the field must execute. Play calling
- 1:26Speaker 2: has not been good. But Marcel Reed has also not
- 1:29Speaker 2: been good. It has been disastrous. And there have been
- 1:31Speaker 2: so many times, countless, again and again and again moments,
- 1:35Speaker 2: where you just say to yourself, dude, stop trying to
- 1:39Speaker 2: just find the number one receiver and make a damn
- 1:42Speaker 2: play to somebody else. You're hyper-athletic. Go run in the
- 1:46Speaker 2: open field to pick up the yardage. The inconsistencies of
- 1:49Speaker 2: the way that he plays football is not only mind-numbing,
- 1:53Speaker 2: it's frustrating. There is not a single quarterback that I
- 1:56Speaker 2: get more frustrated watching football with on a regular basis
- 1:59Speaker 2: than Marcel Reed. Because what in the hell do you mean, oh,
- 2:03Speaker 2: I can throw a quarter mile, beautiful spiral downfield to
- 2:08Speaker 2: Mario Craver. And then three plays later, oh, triple coverage. Nah,
- 2:12Speaker 2: I'm going to force that in there. But why was
- 2:14Speaker 2: it a turnover guy?
- 2:15Speaker 3: Why?
- 2:15Speaker 2: Because of what you did. You got to give a
- 2:18Speaker 2: lot of credit, I think, to what you saw last
- 2:19Speaker 2: season with Colin Klein, which is why he is now
- 2:21Speaker 2: the head coach at Kansas State. He masqueraded a lot
- 2:24Speaker 2: of the faults that we did not notice from this
- 2:26Speaker 2: offense at all. And they were always going to be
- 2:29Speaker 2: going through, I think, a little bit of a retooling year.
- 2:31Speaker 2: But the reason why is because they were just trying
- 2:33Speaker 2: to find pieces that were going to work. And they
- 2:35Speaker 2: had a quarterback that was being game-planned around. And guess what?
- 2:39Speaker 2: Now they don't have that security blanket. And the reality
- 2:42Speaker 2: is that Marcel Reed is probably a good quarterback. But
- 2:45Speaker 2: he's good. He's not great. He's not in the upper echelon.
- 2:48Speaker 2: And I'm not ready to say that Texas A &
- 2:50Speaker 2: M is cooked because college football is a weird sport
- 2:51Speaker 2: and anything can happen on a Saturday. But I did
- 2:54Speaker 2: not feel good about Texas A & M being anything
- 2:56Speaker 2: more than a 9-3 team. We're getting really close to
- 2:59Speaker 2: saying the Texas 8-4 jokes are back.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Are they finishing 8-4, Tom? Listen, week-to-week overreactions are a
- 3:12Speaker 1: real thing. But they gotta go play... in Baton Rouge
- 3:17Speaker 1: next weekend. And I don't think any of us had
- 3:20Speaker 1: this as a loss when we thought that they were
- 3:23Speaker 1: going to be playing LSU this week. Who has their
- 3:26Speaker 1: own problems, I know, but give me LSU's problems right now.
- 3:32Speaker 3: I mean.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Hey guys, just a real quick break from the video
- 3:35Speaker 1: to tell you, go check out the prize picks app.
- 3:38Speaker 1: We tell you about them all the time, but all
- 3:39Speaker 1: new users over there who play $ 5 get 150 in
- 3:42Speaker 1: lineups instantly. If they win using code HMA on their
- 3:46Speaker 1: first lineup, it's not just lineups though. It's team picks
- 3:50Speaker 1: as well. We've got the Heisman odds right here. Those
- 3:52Speaker 1: continue to update Trinidad. Number one, you've got Darian Mensah
- 3:56Speaker 1: up there at number two, Camario Taylor, shout out Mississippi state.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Number three, you've got Jeremiah Smith, CJ Carr, Jaden Baugh,
- 4:03Speaker 1: All the way up to number six, Arch Manning, Gunnar Stockton,
- 4:06Speaker 1: Julian Sayen, Malachi Toney, Will Hammond. A ton of names here.
- 4:10Speaker 1: You can go play team picks as well. You can
- 4:12Speaker 1: take first team to score. You can take a bunch
- 4:14Speaker 1: of different picks on the Prize Picks app. Go check
- 4:18Speaker 1: them out. We appreciate them for their support. Now back
- 4:21Speaker 1: to the clip on the Power 2.
- 4:23Speaker 3: I like LSU in that game. I think Texas A
- 4:26Speaker 3: & M might have some issues with Austin Simmons at
- 4:29Speaker 3: Mizzou in a couple of weeks. I think the Bama
- 4:32Speaker 3: game is going to be tough. I think if, if
- 4:35Speaker 3: Lenore sellers can put together like a complete game of football,
- 4:38Speaker 3: South Carolina can give him some trouble. Tennessee is going
- 4:40Speaker 3: to give him some trouble. Oklahoma offensively is terrible, but
- 4:43Speaker 3: defensively some trouble. And boy, Texas at the end of
- 4:46Speaker 3: the year. Yeah. You hope eight and four is the
- 4:50Speaker 3: worst case scenario. I think, I mean, I don't want
- 4:52Speaker 3: to jump to conclusions, but, Guys, how often do I
- 4:55Speaker 3: talk about on this show, I hate to see when
- 4:57Speaker 3: a quarterback's attempts balloon like this. And Marcel Reed is
- 5:00Speaker 3: the first guy that I talk about. His attempts should
- 5:02Speaker 3: never get higher than 25. The fact that it went
- 5:05Speaker 3: up to 49. Here's the fun thing. He had 49
- 5:09Speaker 3: attempts and then 10 rushing attempts. Trinidad Chambliss had 48
- 5:15Speaker 3: attempts through the air and 9 attempts on the ground.
- 5:18Speaker 3: One of those guys, you want to touch the ball
- 5:20Speaker 3: 78% of your offensive snaps. The other guy, you don't.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Marcel Reed is unfortunately at times a hindrance for this offense.
- 5:30Speaker 3: You need to be able to run the offense through him.
- 5:32Speaker 3: He is a very, very good athlete. The decision-making has
- 5:36Speaker 3: been questionable for a while. The passing, the accuracy has
- 5:40Speaker 3: been up and down ever since he first started. It's
- 5:43Speaker 3: gotten better over time, but this is who he is.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And I said it in the offseason, guys. I think
- 5:48Speaker 3: there's a lot of Aggie fans that are waiting for
- 5:50Speaker 3: the Marcel Reed era to be over. And it's not like, oh, okay, well,
- 5:55Speaker 3: we have the next guy in waiting. It's just like,
- 5:56Speaker 3: please get somebody else in here who can be better
- 5:59Speaker 3: at this position. I'm more worried about Texas A &
- 6:02Speaker 3: M' s defense because the explosives that you gave up in
- 6:06Speaker 3: this game are ridiculous. A long of 53 for DJ Miller,
- 6:11Speaker 3: a long of 42 for Kenny Darby, 32 for Boyer,
- 6:14Speaker 3: 28 for Baxter, on the ground 16 for Baxter, 22
- 6:18Speaker 3: on the ground for Patterson, 14 on the ground for Skinner. Like,
- 6:21Speaker 3: that's ridiculous. And it's also not sustainable for Kentucky. You
- 6:25Speaker 3: can't rely on the explosives to be your whole offense. Like,
- 6:28Speaker 3: Kenny Minchie, 14 for 18, 252? That's a stupid stat line.
- 6:34Speaker 2: That's a stupid amount of yardage per attempt. That number
- 6:37Speaker 2: could have been higher too because Garvey– because he dropped
- 6:40Speaker 2: an easy touchdown too.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Yes. Texas A & M' s defense has got to get
- 6:45Speaker 3: it together because there's nothing I can look at here
- 6:48Speaker 3: in terms of what they put on tape during this game.
- 6:50Speaker 3: It was just blown assignments left and right. That's all
- 6:53Speaker 3: that is at the end of the day. And Mike
- 6:55Speaker 3: Elko's better than that.
- 6:56Speaker 2: I said, you know how Mike Elko's better than that?
- 6:59Speaker 2: Because he even said afterwards, they're like, can you find–
- 7:01Speaker 2: what are the positives of this game? There were no positives. None.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Where's the life? Where's the line?
- 7:08Speaker 3: Where were the positives? He owned it.
- 7:10Speaker 2: None. Literally none. Again, there are so many issues right
- 7:15Speaker 2: now with Texas A & M. We want to pinpoint
- 7:17Speaker 2: all on Marcel Reed because he's an easy target. It's
- 7:20Speaker 2: so easy to blame your quarterback. Guys, Reed Harris went
- 7:24Speaker 2: off for $ 1.
- 7:27Speaker 3: 89.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Reed Harris wasn't even coming into the season as the
- 7:30Speaker 2: best wide receiver at Arizona State. And you still have
- 7:33Speaker 2: games against Mike Matthews and Braylon Staley and Ryan Coleman
- 7:37Speaker 2: Williams and Lottie Brooks and Donovan O. And insert another
- 7:42Speaker 2: wide receiver here. It's bad. And it's bad up front
- 7:45Speaker 2: because you can't close the door on the quarterback. So therefore,
- 7:47Speaker 2: they're getting situations to be able to get positive traction.
- 7:51Speaker 2: And that's forcing your secondary to play out of position
- 7:53Speaker 2: at times. And even so, I'm not even going to
- 7:55Speaker 2: put it all in there. The secondary's playing off-ball so
- 7:58Speaker 2: much that what they're doing is they're just allowing them
- 8:00Speaker 2: to get yards. Then it's like, oh, we'll make it
- 8:02Speaker 2: down for contact. That's not the way to win football games, gang. I.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Week to week, teams do improve. We'll see what happens
- 8:14Speaker 1: with A & M, but it just doesn't feel like
- 8:16Speaker 1: a great spot. I think there was a large section
- 8:19Speaker 1: of this fan base, which is a great fan base.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I know they get clowned for being weird and there's others, whatever.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I think they really wanted to believe that Reed could
- 8:26Speaker 1: step up and be the guy and take a leap
- 8:28Speaker 1: from last year and go from good to great. And
- 8:32Speaker 1: that doesn't seem like it's happened. It doesn't seem like
- 8:34Speaker 1: there's enough around him to allow him to, even if
- 8:39Speaker 1: he had done that, you kind of wonder about what's
- 8:41Speaker 1: around him. Now, if he had done that, maybe they'd
- 8:42Speaker 1: take a step and beat Kentucky. But it would certainly
- 8:45Speaker 1: give you the worries for what was to come with
- 8:48Speaker 1: this schedule. It is brutal for A & M because
- 8:51Speaker 1: they've invested a lot. Does it feel... What are your thoughts? Okay,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I'm not trying to have a referendum on the whole staff,
- 9:01Speaker 1: but what the heck was Elko doing this weekend? What
- 9:05Speaker 1: is his roster?
- 9:06Speaker 2: He doesn't have an answer for it. I am not
- 9:08Speaker 2: an Elko hater. I'm not calling it down, but like,
- 9:11Speaker 2: and I get credit to him.
- 9:12Speaker 1: He's the most real coach. Well, maybe some are all,
- 9:14Speaker 1: but like, he's the most real coach in the sec.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Like he'll just say like, no, dog, we sucked. Like,
- 9:19Speaker 1: and I appreciate that about him, but like you do, you,
- 9:21Speaker 1: you look at it and you say like, dude, what
- 9:24Speaker 1: are we doing here?
- 9:25Speaker 3: I think Elko appropriately is like, it starts with me.
- 9:29Speaker 3: It starts with every head coach. We talked about that
- 9:31Speaker 3: with Ryan day and the loss to Texas a few
- 9:33Speaker 3: weeks ago.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 3: This is college football. You're dealing with 18 to, what,
- 9:40Speaker 3: 32-year-old players at this point in time.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Technically, the pounder at Florida State.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Is like 29, 30. For the most part, you're dealing
- 9:48Speaker 3: with 18 to 22-year-olds. The variance is enormous. The mistakes
- 9:52Speaker 3: are going to happen. But also, a great coach puts
- 9:56Speaker 3: faith in his staff, in his coordinators. in his players.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Clearly Mike Elko is going to take away from this.
- 10:04Speaker 3: I have to squeeze a lot harder. He has to
- 10:07Speaker 3: micromanage potentially a lot more than he was before. And
- 10:10Speaker 3: head coaches don't want to have to do that. They
- 10:12Speaker 3: want to have reliable people that can say, I know
- 10:15Speaker 3: my offensive coordinator's got it. I know my defensive line
- 10:18Speaker 3: coach has got it. I know that these players are
- 10:20Speaker 3: going to be in meetings. They're going to pay attention.
- 10:22Speaker 3: They're going to execute whatever day of the week that
- 10:25Speaker 3: is we play. And that just did not happen at
- 10:28Speaker 3: all for Texas A & M in this game. It's
- 10:30Speaker 3: really hard to explain this. And I would expect a
- 10:33Speaker 3: much better effort from Texas A & M because this
- 10:36Speaker 3: feels like this coming week of practice is probably going
- 10:39Speaker 3: to suck for those guys. And Mike Elko is going
- 10:41Speaker 3: to be the reason why.
- 10:43Speaker 2: It's partially that. Here's the part that, again, A &
- 10:45Speaker 2: M fans don't want to hear because if I ever
- 10:47Speaker 2: say anything negative about them, I hate them with all
- 10:49Speaker 2: burning disdain and passion. A & M was really good
- 10:53Speaker 2: last season because of the veteranship. And to find ways
- 10:56Speaker 2: to back-pull in pieces on the offensive line and in
- 10:59Speaker 2: some parts of the defense, it just doesn't always hit.
- 11:03Speaker 2: And I'm not trying to be mean. I swear when
- 11:06Speaker 2: I say this. If you want... Any minutes of that,
- 11:10Speaker 2: ask TJ Pittenger after what happened in 2023 when they
- 11:13Speaker 2: had to go back portal in basically all the pieces
- 11:16Speaker 2: at Florida State and they went 2-10. I don't think
- 11:19Speaker 2: that will be Texas A & M this year. But, like,
- 11:21Speaker 2: you had a lot of young guns that you probably
- 11:24Speaker 2: need to put a lot of experience into. And the
- 11:26Speaker 2: guys that you brought in via the portal on the
- 11:28Speaker 2: offensive line and on the defensive side, they were good,
- 11:31Speaker 2: but they weren't great. And I'll be the first to
- 11:33Speaker 2: tell you guys this. And it's something that I've brought
- 11:35Speaker 2: up a lot and people don't want to listen. If
- 11:38Speaker 2: somebody on the offensive line is being let go of
- 11:41Speaker 2: their NIL deal to sign with another program, my first
- 11:45Speaker 2: question isn't, holy crap, they're awesome. Especially in a major
- 11:49Speaker 2: conference like the SEC. My first question is, why don't
- 11:52Speaker 2: they believe in you anymore? And that's what happened with
- 11:55Speaker 2: Texas A & M. They got four guys from the
- 11:56Speaker 2: SEC that were all let go of their NIL deals.
- 11:59Speaker 2: You saw the reason why it's not gone well so far.
