- 0:00I have my cheat sheet out for actors names. Cool rat. I'm glad
- 0:04you have that because I didn't show is the prepared one of the group,
- 0:10so I knew the assignment. I don't always do it on time that I
- 0:14tear do it. Hello and welcome to May the Review be with you.
- 0:29With Nick and Joe. I'm Joe, I'm Nick, and today we're talking
- 0:34about episodes one, two, and three of Marvel's Secret Invasion. We're going
- 0:40back to TV series, which we haven't done in a hot minute. Uh
- 0:44yeah, Nick, we're going into this show. How you doing doing well?
- 0:52Yeah? Doing well. Everything's good. Still still mad that I lost
- 0:55twenty something dollars on the Flash, but they've lost over two hundred million,
- 1:00so I guess last laugh is mine. Anyway, that was a saving grace
- 1:04for you. Yeah, they lost way more money than me. Secret Invasion,
- 1:10Secret one, two three, we're gonna we're halfway through Secret Invasion now,
- 1:15which you know, I was about to say starring you know, Samuel
- 1:19Jackson is Nick Fury, but like I, this is actually one of my
- 1:22things about the show. I don't know if I can confidently say that this
- 1:23is starring Nick Fury. I don't know what do you think? But I
- 1:29say, you're immediately suggesting that he's also a scroll right now. No,
- 1:32No, no, that's that's actually very funny that you say that, because
- 1:36yes, I do have that theory. But no, that's actually not what
- 1:38I meant. I just meant he's you know, he's obviously one of the
- 1:42focal point characters. But like, I don't feel like this is a Nick
- 1:46Fury show the same way that like a lot of other Marvel properties are,
- 1:49Like this is an Iron Man movie, this is a Captain American movie.
- 1:53This is not a Nick Fury show. I don't know, like I feel
- 1:56it feels like, yeah, it doesn't really feel like a solely a neck
- 2:00Fury show. It's more of like the the story of like what happened in
- 2:07between Scrolls coming to Earth and now I guess right, like because it's it's
- 2:13really more about neck Fury and his relationship with the Scrolls and all that.
- 2:22Uh just say, it's like, I don't even know where to start.
- 2:27I'm gonna follow your lead on this whole episode, because like there's a lot
- 2:30of things. I think overall, I've enjoyed it so far, but there's
- 2:35some like choices they've made that I'm like, what are they? Why?
- 2:38Like why are we doing this? Like what what you know? And and
- 2:42uh And it's actually ever at the end of each episode so far, I've
- 2:46been like no, no, why, Like why It's like what's the point?
- 2:50You know, like not necessarily, but like I don't understand why this
- 2:54is the choice, you know. Yeah, and I guess that we were
- 3:02the three things. Now that we're here, we can we can get to
- 3:06them separately. But the three things are Mariah Hill getting killed, Maria Maria
- 3:12Hill getting killed, excuse me, Maria Hill getting killed, him having a
- 3:16wife who then is also a scroll. I was like, what, like
- 3:21okay, you know, and then the very thing is the third thing is
- 3:25the daughter. What's the daughter's name? Oh you're talking about Oh my god,
- 3:31Gaya Gya Yaya getting getting shot, which I'm not convinced that she's actually
- 3:37dead yet, but that I was just like, you know, like I
- 3:45don't know. It also doesn't feel like killing two women. Who's two strong
- 3:50female characters like in the first three episodes of a TV show, when like
- 3:54there's obviously clearly like a movement in Marvel to like highlight women more kind of
- 4:00feels a little bit like off the path as well. I'm maybe thinking too
- 4:04much into it because obviously we still have three episodes left, and you know,
- 4:09guy, I might not actually be dead. But yeah, yeah,
- 4:15Maria Hillfing is really disappointing because I love that character. So that that was
- 4:19wild. So you know, let's do a quick episode per episode. So
- 4:27episode one, we are introduced to Everett Ross, our CIA agent, which
- 4:33are automatically as soon as you see him if you've been following the Marvel cannon,
- 4:38this already feels off since we know that he should be in Wakanda.
- 4:44Is quickly revealed to us upon him talking to some Pepe Sylvia esque gentleman who
- 4:51has got this crazy board of every what happened to everybody's mail and how all
- 4:57the mailmen may must be scrolls. He is quickly killed and then we quickly
- 5:01learned that this is not evert Ross. This is a scroll, which kind
- 5:05of sets the whole tone for the show of you know, who can you
- 5:08trust? Right? How'd you feel about seeing Everitt Ross? I thought that
- 5:13was an awesome opening. I was like, oh, no way, this
- 5:15is great, you know, and obviously quickly you find out it's not really
- 5:17him, but I think he's like probably one of the more like beloved like
- 5:24sliding characters, you know, like or I guess supporting characters is probably the
- 5:29word I should use. He's like one of the more beloved supporting characters for
- 5:32like whenever he's on screen, you know, so it's always cool to see
- 5:36him, regardless if it's like actually Eritt Ross or if it's a scroll playing
- 5:41every Ross. Yeah. So, I mean as a result of this scene,
- 5:48Maria who makes contact with Tallos and I guess Tallas is No. I
- 5:53guess Tallas doesn't kill the scroll who's evert Ross? He chases him in that
- 5:59guy accident. He dies. Well after this, Maria calls Nick Fury,
- 6:06who's been up in Saber this whole time, and we come to find out
- 6:13that Fury's been dodging phone calls that apparently, ever since the the blip,
- 6:19he's not really been. We're reminded over and over again that he hasn't been
- 6:24Fury, which you mentioned earlier. Hey, is that you trying to say
- 6:30that you think he's a scroll? Yeah, I absolutely think he is.
- 6:34I don't think this is our Nick Fury at all. I feel like he's
- 6:39he feels off to me, Well go ahead, sorry, but to because
- 6:46we're on it and it just popped into my head. Can we talk about
- 6:49the scar on his eye? What about it? It's bigger than in the
- 6:55other films, is it not? I know I have noticed that. I
- 6:58know he's not wearing the eye patch, but there's no way that the eye
- 7:01patch takes away from like covers how big those scars are, because the scar
- 7:08is clearly it's from when he lost his eye, yeah, and when he
- 7:11gets a good friend, yeah, when you know, but that's that's like,
- 7:15you know, thirty forty years ago, and I don't remember the scar
- 7:18being that defined in any of the other films, and this movie it's like,
- 7:25I mean, sorry the TV show, it's like really like aggressive.
- 7:30The scar is really aggressive looking. And I know he's not wearing the eye
- 7:32patch, So I don't know if that's the reason, or that's or they
- 7:41made the scar more defined because he's not wearing the eye patch for some far
- 7:44freaking reason, like, but it sticks out to me at every episode.
- 7:47I haven't gone back either, but I can't imagine that I'm wrong because it's
- 7:53such a glaring thing that I've noticed. I'm like, it's never been this
- 7:57bad. But they also just didn't want him wearing an eye patch for some
- 7:59reason. He's just not wearing an eye patch, like it's Nick Fury.
- 8:01It was a bit weird too. It's like, I don't get it.
- 8:05I I do have a theory about that. It's not Scroll related. This
- 8:09would actually this is counterintuitive to my idea that he's a scroll. I think
- 8:15it's metaphorical because like the the eye patch is like that's like if you think
- 8:22about an avenger and like what it is, like what trait they have,
- 8:26right, thor Hammer, Captain Erica Shield, Nick Fury not technically adventure an
- 8:31avenger, but like you know what I mean, he's one of those characters
- 8:33the eye patch, right, Yeah, if you take that thing away from
- 8:37a character, you know, it tells you that, like internally they're going
- 8:41through something, right, they're not that person. So I think we will
- 8:45see him down the eye patch by the end of this as he becomes like
- 8:50super spy Nick Fury again, right, And maybe that's why they defined they
- 8:54made the scars more defined so that the audience can pick up on the fact
- 8:56that he's not wearing his eye patch. And it's not normal. Yeah,
- 9:00so I guess that would make sense. Yeah, I get that that makes
- 9:03sense. But I don't know. But maybe that's how we're supposed to feel
- 9:07right now, a little bit like out of touch with everything going on and
- 9:11not agreeing with a lot of stuff because it's just something's not right, you
- 9:15know, And Fury was Fury, then Maria Hill wouldn't have been killed,
- 9:20you know that kind of right? Yeah, Maria, Mariah, I'm gonna
- 9:24say that wrong the whole episode. Oh no, it's another Cane Kong thing.
- 9:28Damn. Yeah. So this episode, you know, we get caught
- 9:35up with the scroll situation, in which there is a Scroll colony uh In
- 9:41in Russia and they're actually inhabiting radioactive places where nuclear power plants were decommissioned,
- 9:50which I thought was kind of neat. It makes for a neat setting.
- 9:52We get to meet Gaya, Gaya, being the daughter of Tailos, get
- 9:56to come to find out that Talors, his wife, is unfortunately dead.
- 10:01We get quite a few revelations in this first episode, including the fact that
- 10:05there is a a I don't want to call it a civil war. I
- 10:09guess it is an insurgency of scrolls. Who are pissed that Nick Fury and
- 10:18I guess tala a la talos a lah Nick Fury have not kept their promise
- 10:24in delivering a planet. Earth has become a refugee spot for one million scrolls.
- 10:31Yeah, insane. Yeah, and they've infiltrated like the deepest forms of
- 10:35government in the world. Yes, yes, And Gravic is now leading a
- 10:41revolution to exterminate humans and make Earth theirs. Yea. And one of the
- 10:48incidents that he's going to cause by doing this is, of course the climax
- 10:50of the first episode, which is the Dirty Bomb in I don't know how
- 10:56to say the Square in Russia, but whatever, for Unity Day a lot
- 11:00of people. He's gonna blame America. Right, bomb goes off and there's
- 11:05chaos, and as you have pointed out, Maria Hill is shot and killed
- 11:09by Gravic, who is disguised as Nick Fury. Ultimately, how do you
- 11:15feel about this first episode? I enjoyed it. I thought it was like
- 11:20a great first episode. Obviously ends with a freaking shock because like everyone loves
- 11:26Maria Hill and now she's got so it was like pretty pretty annoying, uh,
- 11:31pretty disappointing, But yeah, I don't know, overall it was great.
- 11:37I like it's a lot though, right Like you try not to think
- 11:43too deep into like how come this is all just happening now, or how
- 11:46come we haven't heard anything about this in the last thirty years, like all
- 11:50that stuff. Obviously, like you can you kind of have to ignore any
- 11:54of things like that because you know, there's a lot of different things going
- 11:58on and the MCU and so like you just kind of have to accept certain
- 12:03things being the way they are to be able to enjoy it. You know.
- 12:05I guess the defaults, like the Blip is to blame still for a
- 12:09lot of stuff, which rightfully so like something like that, I think that's,
- 12:11yeah, that's aletely fair justification. That's the super fair justification. So
- 12:16it's kind of what they're going with. And like, you know, my
- 12:18big questions are like, well, what the hell has Captain Marvel been doing
- 12:22for thirty years if she hasn't found the in habitable planet? You know,
- 12:24And I think that's probably maybe partly what the Marvels is gonna tackle, maybe
- 12:31because I know that Nick Fury is in that based on the previews for that
- 12:33that have been released already, So maybe there's gonna be some sort of we
- 12:37might get. I'm kind of expecting to see Captain Marvel show up at some
- 12:39point here in this next three episodes, probably at the end on a cliffhanger
- 12:45like she has in a couple of the other TV shows, to kind of
- 12:50give us some more like context for what's next. Yeah. I I think
- 13:00the first episode was interesting. It is always fun to see Samuel L.
- 13:03Jackson in this role as Nick Fury. Yeah, and personally, I also
- 13:11have come to really enjoy Ben Middleson as Taalos. Super fun character. Character
- 13:18I was not expecting to like so much was Olivia Coleman's Sonya character. I'm
- 13:24still very confused about her character. I don't really understand her placement in the
- 13:30grand scheme of things, but I love her performance. It's great. As
- 13:37far as the first episode goes, I think that there's enough intrigue about it.
- 13:41And if you're going to do a spy thing, a spy thriller,
- 13:43you have to build intrigue and st suspense, right, and I think that
- 13:46first episode definitely accomplishes that. That's definitely not my issues with it. I
- 13:50think killing Maria Hill is actually a great idea for a lot of reasons.
- 13:54A. I didn't see it coming because it always felt like Maria was going
- 13:58to be the next Nick Fury. Yeah, so that was shocking. But
- 14:01this is a character that a lot of us really like, and I think
- 14:07if you're going to sell the stakes of this show, you gotta lead it
- 14:11off with acting someone. And as the MCU gets older, one of the
- 14:16disadvantages it has is its size. Right, you have all these characters and
- 14:22in some cases their stories are going nowhere. So at least Maria Hill's death
- 14:28can serve to move this story in a interesting direction. Right, So I
- 14:33think that was a good idea. I think the problem I have with this
- 14:39first episode and really all three episodes is and this is why I'm like,
- 14:43maybe Nick Fury is supposed to be a scroll, but I'm also like,
- 14:48because of my eyepatch thing, I don't think he is. I'm conflicted because
- 14:52Nick Fury does not feel like Nick Fury to me. And it's not even
- 14:54just like, oh he's acting weird, he's acting shady. It's not just
- 14:58that, it's things that he's saying that just like, this doesn't feel like
- 15:05the Nick, the super agent Nick Fury that I know from like Winter Soldier,
- 15:09you know, or we got to see him on full display. You
- 15:13remember the car Cha scene where he any normal person would be smoked. Yeah,
- 15:18and he's just got an answer for everything. Like I think we're just
- 15:24and we're supposed to feel this way because he's just. He's old, he's
- 15:26older. Sure, he's been through a blip. Hear me out, hear
- 15:28me exhausted, No for sure, for sure, hear me out. I
- 15:33think. And maybe this is to your point, but that there there are
- 15:37little moments that I'm like, ah, that's a bit odd, where like
- 15:41in that first episode where Tellos and Nick are trying to get information out of
- 15:46this scroll who's pretending to be a museum owner, an art museum owner,
- 15:52I believe, And there's this moment where, like, you know, Nick's
- 15:56ferry in control. He's sitting in the chair, he's got the up to
- 16:00the guy. He's saying some very nick fury things. But then the situation
- 16:03quickly gets out of control as the scroll puts Tallos on the back end right
- 16:11uh, and he's beating the hell out of him, and Nick actually like
- 16:15sounds scared in this situation and like calls out. He's like tallos like like
- 16:19in a very like unsure, like fearful way. That just did not feel
- 16:25like the character to me. And like there's a couple of different instances of
- 16:30that that come up. I don't know, it could be maybe you're right,
- 16:33maybe he's traumatized. I feel like the game, right, he's just
- 16:40been Yeah, he's spin out of the game. And everyone keeps saying that,
- 16:42right. I mean, I think that's my issue is like everyone keeps
- 16:45telling me that, oh, yeah, Nick Fury, you've been different,
- 16:48and and I guess, like I'm seeing him be different, but like I
- 16:53guess I didn't think Nick Fury would be different. So I'm I'm a little
- 17:00I feel like there's a bridge missing. I think I think I get what
- 17:03you're saying though, too, because like, you know, you hear that
- 17:06there's a Nick Fury based spy thriller coming to Disney Plus, and you're like,
- 17:10oh my god, this is awesome, Nick, We're going to get
- 17:11to see Nick Fury be Nick Fury, and like, we don't get that.
- 17:15In the first three episodes, we get a broken, older, exhausted
- 17:22you know, like been out of the game for too long spy who's now
- 17:25coming back to Earth, trying to figure out where he's gotten wrong. Ah,
- 17:32and it's just not maybe what we were expecting. But now that I'm
- 17:36talking about it too, you know in that first episode when you know he
- 17:37goes for a walk in Russia and you know they didn't he was like,
- 17:42well you can't go walk on along and he's like, yeah I can or
- 17:45whatever, and he gets like captured by Sonia, right, But then we
- 17:51realized, oh, he wanted to get captured because he could put a camera
- 17:52in her office. Right. So like maybe he's in some cases acting like
- 17:57this because he knows that people will think he's old and washed up and he
- 18:02can get more answers if he's a little bit reckless or like not himself.
- 18:07So maybe all of it is even just him like playing everybody, playing everyone
- 18:12else, including the audience. Why not wearing the eye patch for a little
- 18:15while. It could be until he gets his a groove. Who knows.
- 18:19But I think it's well done overall so far. It's fun. It doesn't
- 18:25seem like too serious of I don't know, actually this is this is gonna
- 18:27be tough to say. It's like borderline too serious of a problem to not
- 18:32have. Like some Avengers come and help. But then it's also like they're
- 18:36kind of keeping it, like they're they're kind of backing off on it getting
- 18:41too bad, right, Like was it the third the last episode recently or
- 18:45the second episode? I think it's the most recent one where the sub is
- 18:48gonna shoot down the un plane? Yeah, that's the third episode, third
- 18:53episode, right, So like this is how the third episode ends, right,
- 18:56Like they're this, like the sub's gonna shoot down this un plane and
- 18:59it's gonna be this like like this is what's going to start the next major
- 19:03like nuclear war, right like, and they actually make you they made me
- 19:07feel like for a second that they weren't gonna be able to stop it,
- 19:08Like they did a really good job. I was like, holy shit,
- 19:11like this is actually gonna happen. And then it doesn't, And like that's
- 19:15the kind of thing where it's like, if it would have happened, it
- 19:17would have hit a level of like we need the Avengers or like some other
- 19:21heroes in this, right, But they were able to stop it, which
- 19:25kind of keeps you thinking, Okay, it's still like a traditional spy thing,
- 19:27like they're figuring it out on their own. They don't need outside help,
- 19:32right, right, Like even like Rowdy, Like we've got to see
- 19:34Rowdy a little bit, which is really cool, but he's not really helping,
- 19:38you know, He's like trying to keep Fury from being Fury, which
- 19:42is interesting. Oh yeah, So like he's a scroll, right, Like
- 19:47gotta be he's got it. He's like one hundred scroll. He's got to
- 19:49be a scroll. Yeah, yeah, because I mean, like, if
- 19:52you're gonna do a story like this right where you don't know who to trust,
- 19:56you have to have those familiar faces that like it's like the moment,
- 20:00right and like who of all the characters that we've met in this series,
- 20:06like who's human, who's the most like susceptible to be that it's Roady right
- 20:11at something there. We'll probably get a reveal in the next three episodes that
- 20:14he's like, you know in that chamber. I think we kind of got
- 20:18it. Actually at the end of episode three, Oh really, I didn't
- 20:22notice Rowdy. It was a well you don't see him, we hear him
- 20:26when Priscilla is making a call and says I want to speak to Gravic and
- 20:30someone on the other line says, yeah, well, you're speaking to me
- 20:33that was definitely roady, Like, oh, I didn't even notice that.
- 20:37Yeah, that was definitely uh oh my god, don Cheetle's voice. Oh,
- 20:41I didn't even notice that. I have to go back and watch that.
- 20:45It even sounds like the kind of thing Rody would say too. Yeah,
- 20:48well you're speaking to me. Yes, yes it does. That's my
- 20:51thing with the show, Nick, I feel like I don't know where this
- 20:53is going, but like not in a good way. Like I feel like
- 20:56I don't know where it's going because like it feels like there's a ton of
- 20:59different There are only six episodes, right, how are we going to get
- 21:03this all done? Right? Yeah, the next the next one's gonna have
- 21:07to be some kind of like big big event, right, Like they gotta
- 21:10get it going. So, I mean, it would make sense if Guy's
- 21:14actually dead as well, right, I mean even if she's not. And
- 21:18here's why I'm thinking she might not be dead because he shot her once in
- 21:21the chest and he didn't like put a couple extra clips in because she transformed
- 21:27back into a scroll. But all his scrolls know that when they die,
- 21:33they turn back into scrolls. So if you're someone who's trying to run from
- 21:41like the Resistance. You get shot, you should transform so that he thinks
- 21:45you're dead and maybe you'll get lucky and he doesn't put a like an ending
- 21:48clip in your head basically, And so when she did that, when she
- 21:52did that, I was like, hmmm, they didn't show her body after
- 21:57they shot her and she got shot in the chest in the dark. All
- 22:00they showed was like her turning back into a scroll. But you didn't get
- 22:03a good look, and you saw that. Gravic was like, Okay,
- 22:07she's dead because she turned back into a scroll. But they did a great
- 22:11job at letting all of us know that that's exactly what happens when they do
- 22:15die. So it could be it could go either way. I could.
- 22:18I could I could make a case that she's still alive. And this is
- 22:22where the next episode is important. It's either the turning point in the show
- 22:26is gonna either be she's dead and Tailo's is absolutely about to lose his mind
- 22:32and she's about to get real, or she's not dead and she now is
- 22:36freely able to go back to the good side and work with Taylo's her father
- 22:41and in Fury and really figure out how to like knock this invasion down,
- 22:47while she is also going to be able to like move freely because they think
- 22:52she's dead. So like, either way, it's gonna be like a cool
- 22:56thing. But I'll be I think I'm leaning more towards that she's actually not
- 23:03dead. I like that idea that he's or that she's actually alive. Yeah,
- 23:08I think it would be a little tough if if she is, like,
- 23:12you know, like especially because like a mill Clark's doing a great job
- 23:18and it's been really cool to see her in the MCU, and and I
- 23:19think the character is really interesting and she's not like the kind of character that
- 23:23you have to like that's gonna you know, be in a bunch of other
- 23:26MCU things. But she is cool enough and the entertaining enough so far,
- 23:30I like, which is what the character is to like, it'll be a
- 23:33character to it'll be nice to see down the line and here and there,
- 23:37like Everett Ross, you know, like, and I just don't see them
- 23:42killing off a character like that who's young this quickly, especially like they need
- 23:49to progress the MCU with characters that people like, and after killing one that
- 23:55we all loved in the first episode, it's kind of like they're gonna kill
- 23:57another one. I don't know that. All those things make me think that,
- 24:00you know, she's actually not dead. I agree with that. It
- 24:04does feel weird to kill her off this early, especially since yeah, it
- 24:08is Amelia Clark. Yeah, so I don't know, we'll see, but
- 24:12I'm hopeful that she's not, although it would be a pretty it would be
- 24:19like the breaking point for Taylor's like yeah, and it does kind of feel
- 24:22like he needs that, he needs a breaking point. Do you feel like,
- 24:29do you feel like his wife is actually dead? No, I don't
- 24:32know what's real, you know, like that, and you know, maybe
- 24:36that's maybe this is the show is brilliant because we honestly have no clue like
- 24:40what is actually true or not right like that, That's kind of why I
- 24:42like, I'm reserving judgment until like I finished this or yeah, it's I
- 24:47mean, it's definitely well done. It's enjoyable, Like I've definitely enjoyed watching
- 24:49it looking forward. So and and then also brings to the point like is
- 24:55Priscilla even like really on Feary's side, because I'm not sure about that either,
- 24:59you know, so, uh, yeah, it also feels like we
- 25:03have not spent enough time with Priscilla Fury. For the amount of importance she
- 25:07may have on this show. Yeah, I hope it's not too much importance,
- 25:11because then it really becomes kind of like, Okay, they probably like
- 25:15I'm sure if they give her more importance, we're gonna be able to be
- 25:18like that wasn't necessary. This is not necessary. She's gonna die and fear.
- 25:26It's gonna make Fury fury again. He's gonna put the eye patch back
- 25:29on. We're gonna be like, really, that's his cannon event, his
- 25:32wife that we just found out about two episodes. I love that you're gonna
- 25:34start using that for meta commentary on Scada movies. I'm also all right,
- 25:41that's gonna be a thing on this show. We're doing that from now on,
- 25:44Like what like that, that's the furious canon event that his wife that
- 25:47we just found out about like two hours ago. Dies. Come on,
- 25:49come on, well, they got to create a can they have to create
- 25:52a cannon event. So yeah, I think the second episode, there's really
- 25:56not a whole lot more left to say about it except for do get a
- 26:02And this is confirmed very early in the third episode. We get a sneak
- 26:06peek that the Scrolls are possibly working on creating a super Scroll, which is
- 26:12right, we haven't even talked about that. Yeah, that for the record,
- 26:15this is a this is a real character in in Marvel comics, the
- 26:19Super Scroll. Yeah, is it Gravi in the comics. No, it's
- 26:26not. It's I actually forget his name, but he's entirely composed differently.
- 26:33His his powers are and if you look at the powers that they've accumulated in
- 26:37the show, they're like mostly like one to one copies. The super Scroll
- 26:42has all the powers of the Fantastic Four, so you know the fire,
- 26:47the stretching, the rock and the force field invisibility. Yeah, he's got
- 26:52all those, which, like it feels weird to do a Super Scroll thing
- 26:56without the Fantastic War, but whatever, they're making it work. I saw
- 27:00I saw groots stretchy things, so like that's how they're doing. Read Richard's
- 27:04there was something about Ice. There was the the arm from the Cult Obsidian
- 27:11that was a cut off in Infinity War. Yeah that makes sense. Cool
- 27:15because he's already a super Scroll, right. They just showed this in the
- 27:18episode three, like he's that healing ability or something. Oh that's true.
- 27:22Yeah, he does have that he's already he's already either got all of the
- 27:26powers or the important ones on his way. Yeah, on his way.
- 27:29So yeah, that's a I can't even believe didn't bring this up. That's
- 27:32hilarious that I forgot that that even happened. So episode three, Grevic you
- 27:37know, tells us that the super scroll thing is happening, so you know,
- 27:42we have that going on. Meanwhile, Talos and Fury are trying to
- 27:48stop a missile launch that as you pointed out, Nick, the suspense which
- 27:52actually handled very well in the scene, and it kind of felt like for
- 27:56a moment that this was actually going to happen, and it does not.
- 28:03But uh yo, I actually thankfully this this comes, this this stops because
- 28:08of Tallis's trusting Gaya. Gaya is able to like make some work happen.
- 28:15It was like a pretty well, it was just like a well done interrogation
- 28:18scene, really, I thought. Obviously him being a scroll makes it a
- 28:23little bit different that that was like maybe a more important scene for how big
- 28:29the scroll infiltration was. It like is rather than even like the room of
- 28:36all the leaders in the episode earlier, right like when they're all the leaders
- 28:41are in the episode earlier and you're like, oh shit, all these leaders
- 28:44are scrolls. You're like, oh man, that's a big problem. But
- 28:45for some reason, that interrogation and finding out that he was a scroll made
- 28:51the problem seem more real. Does that make sense? Yeah? I liked
- 28:56how explosive Talis was in this scene. You know, you can really see
- 29:00how it's this is all getting to him. Watching Gaya try and get out
- 29:07felt also very scary. It was like, Okay, what moment is she
- 29:10gonna get caught? You know? Yeah, and then finally she does,
- 29:12and finally she is shot. But interestingly, that is not where we leave
- 29:18the episode. We leave the episode with Priscilla Fury, who is trying to
- 29:23get a gun out of a safety deposit box. I'm not exactly sure why.
- 29:27I'm not sure if I miss something. Oh yeah, yeah, that
- 29:33whole Priscilla thing is really annoying though, it's like, yeah, where is
- 29:37this going? This field necessary? Also, the secret wife feels very Clint
- 29:41Clint bart bart Lit bart No, that's that's not right, Bartlett, Bardon,
- 29:48Clint Barton, thank you. Let Bartlet be Bartlet west Wing reference.
- 29:52For you fans out there, we don't have enough of those ye references or
- 29:59fans. Yeah, that's true, sadly great show, great, great show.
- 30:04Yeah, but yeah, that's exactly what it feels like, you know,
- 30:07like, but that felt more natural. Of course, a secret agent.
- 30:11As I'm saying this a lot, I'm realizing how stupid I sound.
- 30:15Of Course a secret agent has a secret family. It becomes a little bit
- 30:18more believable now that we're talking about it in this context. I guess,
- 30:23like I guess for me, it's just like we have said the precedent.
- 30:27They have set the precedent though, so maybe it's not as big of a
- 30:30deal as we think. I mean, they made it interesting with the fact
- 30:33that she's a scroll, right, Yeah, it's like, wow, Nick
- 30:37is really like he's actually in bed with the scrolls. Oh but uh yeah,
- 30:49not a scroll, she's Swiss. Same thing. Yeah. So yeah,
- 31:00we finished off with the call to Gravic. It's not graphic. It's
- 31:06definitely down cheetle who picks up. And that's where we are. I am
- 31:15I have I think the show has its issues, uh with mostly with just
- 31:18feeling like a little aimless. Yeah, but I am interested. Everyone's acting
- 31:25their heart out and I love that you know, it really feels like the
- 31:33It really feels like the same kind of concept or vibe from a resistance perspective
- 31:40as like Captain Falcon And I was just gonna say that the villains feel exactly
- 31:49like that Flag Smashers. Yeah, it's so similar to that and and feeling
- 31:55at least I haven't watched that show in months obviously because it was no.
- 31:59I think that it's a great comparison. Really, it really is similar.
- 32:04Well, like you have these you have these characters who, even though like
- 32:08they're committing acts of terrorism, like you hear what they're saying, You're like,
- 32:13well, yeah, that does sound pretty bad. Actually, like these
- 32:15people do need help, Why are we necessarily villifying them? Sure certainly there's
- 32:22something we can do to help, right, And so I don't know it
- 32:27just from that perspective, it's a bit of a non choice. I think.
- 32:30I think Gravic makes a more compelling villain than oh my god, I
- 32:35don't even remember her name, the lead Flag Smasher. Oh yeah, I
- 32:39never quite bought her as a villain. Oh my god, it's Carly,
- 32:44that's it. Yeah. Yeah, I wasn't like a huge I didn't dislike
- 32:50her though, either but but yeah, I agree, but there's just similarities
- 32:55between the flag smashers and that and the resistance to the girls, right,
- 33:00like, which is fine, but like, you know, Marvel kind of
- 33:05did this already, So what is it going? I think is really our
- 33:07our combined like frustration so far with the show. Although we like we do
- 33:12like it, I do enjoy it's enjoyable, and and the more we talk
- 33:16about it, the more I'm like, you know, it's probably better that
- 33:19it's only like a six part mini It's almost like a mini series, right,
- 33:22it's not really like a full show. It's probably better that way,
- 33:27I think. So, I don't know, I think, I think,
- 33:29uh. I think it's very likely we see Captain Marvel. I think it's
- 33:32important that we do, especially because it feels like we're getting set up to
- 33:37see her like these shows, right like Wanda Wanda Vision. You know,
- 33:44they give us like Maria Rambo, which is direct relation to Captain Marvel,
- 33:49missus or was it missus Marvel, Miss Marvel, Miss Marvel. She's not
- 33:54there yet. We see Captain Marvel at the end of that. And now
- 33:59in the previews for or the Marvels, we see obviously all three kind of
- 34:04coming together with Nick Fury and like this is like I think this is the
- 34:07last show slash movie that has to do with all four of them. So
- 34:12like I imagine we're gonna get some kind of Captain Marvel reveal again at the
- 34:16end of this to kind of maybe put all all those shows together, all
- 34:21three TV shows together, and give us like a, Okay, this is
- 34:23what Marvels is gonna be about, you know, I hope. So I
- 34:28always kind of feel like Carol Danvers has gotten shafted as far as the MCU
- 34:32goes per Iteah, Like she's probably the last one of the few remaining phases
- 34:40one through three heroes like left, and I still feel like we have not
- 34:46seen a ton of her, which is crazy considering like Peter Parker, which
- 34:52like, don't get me wrong, I know it's Peter Parker, and Peter
- 34:53Parker's like one of the most well known name media ever, but you know
- 35:00his reveal in Civil War. We've gotten three Spider Man movies and him featured
- 35:06in two Avengers movies. Yeah, he's already been in six movies, right,
- 35:13whereas Carol's two. Well, it's not even just that she's only been
- 35:19in two really well, yeah, I guess two maybe three mostly two two
- 35:25and like a show here there for a second. It's it's not really even
- 35:29just that, it's it's the span of time within the MCU Like, it's
- 35:32the timeline that's really the problem, right, Like because technically, if you're
- 35:37going chronologically, Captain Marvel is the second superhero that we meet, yeah in
- 35:43the nineties. Yeah, you know what I mean. Like she's like the
- 35:45one of the original superheroes chronologically in the mc Okay, so I have a
- 35:53couple of questions where you left. Okay, Nick Fury. Scroll no,
- 36:00no, no, scroll no scroll. I think you've actually swayed me into
- 36:05not scroll territory. Nick Fury is not himself, but it's more metaphorical than
- 36:09it is actual, right, Okay, sonya scroll or no? I think
- 36:16she's a scroll, but I think she's gonna be one of the scrolls that
- 36:21doesn't get found out as being a scroll. Yeah. No, I totally
- 36:23think that this is like the scroll queen, who is a character in Marvel
- 36:28Comics scroll Queen. Ah. Okay, so you have more information on you
- 36:30because you're the comic book man. Very cool. So now that you see
- 36:34I'm like, that's definitely who it is, because I thought it was Amelia
- 36:37Clark and I was wrong about that. Ah, got it? Okay,
- 36:42Yeah, that would make sense because there's got to be like, there's no
- 36:45way that at the end of the show is like, okay, all the
- 36:45scrolls are, there's a million of God right right, And the more compelling
- 36:52thing would be to like leave one that's even closer to Fury than all the
- 36:54other ones were, and that he still doesn't know that he still doesn't know
- 36:58about. Hmmm, Yeah, she's got to be the scroll queen. I
- 37:01don't even think so too. What you just said that sounds like that sounds
- 37:05that sounds that sounds awesome. Story continuation standpoint. Yeah, And I think
- 37:12we're far from being done with the scrolls after this, you know, I
- 37:15think this is ultimately going somewhere, all right, James Rody scroll definitely like,
- 37:23like come on, like definitely a fucking scroll. So somebody said,
- 37:30I forgot who. Someone said that there was a scroll high high up in
- 37:34the American government and that that could be referring to Rody, right, could
- 37:39be? Do you think the American president is a scroll? Actually be pretty
- 37:49mind blowing. In real life and in MC Joe Biden. It's the only
- 37:53thing. It's the only reason why we can explain why Joe Biden isn't so
- 37:58sleepy these days. It's been placed sleepy Joe. He's sleeping somewhere else.
- 38:05Now, we can't fust this episode. What do you mean they're already listening
- 38:09to us? Sounds like a this silicon Hi, mister NSA agents. Oh
- 38:14god, all right, well, you have to edit all this out so
- 38:15it doesn't get taken down. First episode gets taken down on Joe's out of
- 38:19the line, out of line, take him to rikers, take them a
- 38:24guanamo. Oh my god. Uh yeah, So I think I'm gonna reserve
- 38:30my score for this one. What about you? Oh yeah, no,
- 38:32we don't do scores halfway through anyway. Cool. I'm glad you remember that
- 38:36I didn't. I think we're gonna call it here then, and the next
- 38:40time we come on, we will have concluded Marvel's Secret Invasion and we be
- 38:45very close and or releasing more reviews of Oppenheimer and Barbie as well. Yeah,
- 38:54I'm so glad that you're sort of on the train for that. Oh,
- 38:57I'm definitely on the train. I just don't know if I'm gonna be
- 38:59able to see them both the same weekend, so we might have to do
- 39:00the Barbie one later. Space that out, yeah, which is fine anyway,
- 39:05So yeah, we do, We'll space it out. It's gonna be
- 39:07great. That's gonna be a fantastic weekend. All right. We'll close it
- 39:10out here for today. Uh, and we'll be talking about the end of
- 39:15marvel Secret Invasion next time you hear from us. But until you do,
- 39:20May the review be with you.
