- 0:00Speaker 1: Now I have for you here an email of interest
- 0:04from Eastern Europe.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Eastern Europe, yes.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Not specific as to where in Eastern Europe it is,
- 0:12but a pretty interesting email, all right for that, Sarah,
- 0:17dear Bill writing to you from Eastern Europe, where my
- 0:20wife and I just landed a few days ago. It's
- 0:23been over a decade since my last correspondence, which you
- 0:28read on the air at the time see below, and
- 0:31he's included with the one he wrote ten years ago,
- 0:34and I'll read that as well. My wife, whose job
- 0:37has led us here, is unpacking in the other room,
- 0:40listening to the latest episode of Radio from Hell Overhearing
- 0:43it just now, I felt compelled once again write to
- 0:46say that it has long been the sound of home
- 0:49for me and has now become the same for her. She,
- 0:53a New Jersey native who probably seldom had entertained even
- 0:56a passing thought of Utah until she met me, has
- 0:59been a race video from hell Attic since I introduced
- 1:02her to it several years back. I dare say she
- 1:05is now probably more conversant in Utah happenings and culture,
- 1:09thanks to you, than most of my kith and kin
- 1:11still based in Utah. In any event, I figured I'd
- 1:15reach out for a long overdue Hello, Yeah what from
- 1:19Afar and to assure you that, no matter what the
- 1:22man tells you, Radio from Hell would thrive in East
- 1:26coast markets, and perhaps even Eastern European ones will be
- 1:30working on that. In the meantime. If you end up
- 1:32reading this on the air, please tell Tina that I
- 1:35love her. We're glad Radio from Hell can be a
- 1:38slice of home for both of us now wherever we go.
- 1:42Sincere's best to the three of you. A fan since childhood,
- 1:45Gavin and you want me to read the letter that
- 1:48he wrote ten years ago, Bill, I've been meaning to
- 1:51write for some time. I wanted to tell you that
- 1:53somehow your voice and those of Radio from Hell in general,
- 1:56have become the sound of home, especially this past Almost
- 2:01a year ago, I summitted Mount Kilimanjaro. The final ascent
- 2:07is grueling, dark march in the snow and the cold.
- 2:10The guides recommend bringing along an iPod and playing something
- 2:15during those long hours with little scenery, until the cold
- 2:19took my iPod altogether. My spirits were high and I
- 2:22forgot the windburn. Thanks to some old episodes of Radio
- 2:25from Hell over four years ago, I moved with my
- 2:28wife to the East Coast from Salt Lake City, and
- 2:31as you know, there's a loneliness in getting used to
- 2:33new places. But the podcasts were always how we kept
- 2:36up with goings on in Utah, and it made it
- 2:38seem not so far away. Several months back my marriage ended.
- 2:43There were some extremely dark days and the business or
- 2:45the loneliness was unbearable, but Radio from Hell helped cut
- 2:49through the heavy and get me laughing again. This is
- 2:52a really long way of saying that ever since I
- 2:55used to pee myself laughing at Dingo Boy as a
- 2:57ten year old kid, the show You Guys has been
- 3:00a familiar fixture for me. As silly as it sounds,
- 3:04many people in your audience feel that they know you.
- 3:07You've spoken to them as often as their family. And
- 3:11it's just a show. But you know your day to
- 3:13day grind, you know that. But I wanted you to
- 3:15know that it's meant a lot to me and to
- 3:18have a little taste of home, a little familiarity and
- 3:21a little frivolity in the hard, lonely moments, you know,
- 3:24the last twenty years of my life. I hope you've
- 3:26got twenty more in you, whatever the medium, I'll tune
- 3:29in my heart felt best. Gavin, Well, so he wrote that.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Ten years ten years?
- 3:34Speaker 1: So what really? Yeah? No, I don't, Gavin, I don't don't.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I don't want to. I don't want to speak for Bill,
- 3:41but I don't.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Think ten years from now.
- 3:47Speaker 2: It could be. Tina Turner was still going strong, Bill,
- 3:53take your medication. Here's the thing. I'm gonna have to
- 3:59do it for more years, all right, because they're going
- 4:02to take away my social security? What have I got?
- 4:07Speaker 1: Well? And see my thought is is it's been.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Putting into that since nineteen eighty two and it's going
- 4:12to be gone.
- 4:12Speaker 1: See my thought on that is, I don't want to
- 4:14let Gavin down, but I don't want to let you
- 4:17guys down either. So if you guys can keep me
- 4:20alive that long, I'll do it.
- 4:24Speaker 2: We're going to hook you, after all.
- 4:25Speaker 1: If you got some machines and stuff, you know, plug
- 4:28me in.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I'm beyond machines. I'm moving to the occult.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Now.
- 4:31Speaker 2: That's the way we're going to do it.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Okay, listen, I'll take it.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Machines are expensive. The occult can go to a library.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Okay, listen, I'll take you. I saw that movie. Heretic. Yes,
- 4:42and people will pray if people want to pray for me.
- 4:46I don't believe in prayer, but if people want to
- 4:48pray for me, thanks for doing it. It can't hurt.
- 4:50Speaker 2: You can't hurt.
