- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on this week's episode of hip Hop Now podcast,
- 0:06Speaker 1: my thoughts on the new album from Westside Doune. Twelve
- 0:12Speaker 1: outcasts have been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall
- 0:15Speaker 1: of Fame. Did you vote? And Cameron tells us why
- 0:21Speaker 1: we didn't get the Little Wayne Juice and Tana Collabo
- 0:26Speaker 1: mixtape back in the days. Missed opportunities, but nevertheless, let's
- 0:33Speaker 1: do it. Welcome to hip Hop Now. Potts. If you
- 0:42Speaker 1: from the future, you know what you do, get your
- 0:44Speaker 1: ass out of my past life, so disrespect to leg

- 1:25Speaker 1: and you have now graduated to the video. No shade.

- 1:33Speaker 1: maybe this is your first episode. Welcome hit that subscribe
- 1:37Speaker 1: button if you love it, hit the like button if
- 1:40Speaker 1: you like it, and definitely comment because I read the
- 1:42Speaker 1: comments and I respond to the comments. Shout out to you.
- 1:47Speaker 1: We all know what happened this past week. You know
- 1:51Speaker 1: Kimdrick Lamar performed at the halftime show. My opinion was
- 1:56Speaker 1: that I liked it a lot. Also expected something very different,
- 2:02Speaker 1: something very Kendrick Lamar for those who didn't know what
- 2:06Speaker 1: to expect or felt like he jumped off script because
- 2:10Speaker 1: at the super Bowl it's about doing the hits. That's
- 2:14Speaker 1: what it's traditionally has happened. But maybe you've never seen
- 2:17Speaker 1: a Kendrick Lamar show before. There's a couple of things
- 2:20Speaker 1: you can google so it'll make sense. Kendrick Gamar at
- 2:25Speaker 1: the Grammys. Remember that one. Go look that one up.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Kendrick Gamar performance at the Grammys. I forget the year,
- 2:31Speaker 1: but it'll pop up. As soon as you see the
- 2:33Speaker 1: jail suits, you'll see what I'm talking about. Watch that,
- 2:37Speaker 1: and then watch when Doctor Dre had the super Bowl performance,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and specifically look at Kendrick Lamar's performance against the other
- 2:47Speaker 1: performances on the stage, which is not no shade, but
- 2:51Speaker 1: his stuff is different. His stuff is meant to evoke
- 2:55Speaker 1: something that's even deeper than just the lyrics the imagery.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It's a message just as much as what he's saying
- 3:03Speaker 1: in his songs, and that's what he does. So if
- 3:07Speaker 1: anybody wasn't entertained by it or didn't get it, there's
- 3:10Speaker 1: enough guy explaining it online. But if you would like
- 3:13Speaker 1: to see my reaction the day of the Super Bowl afterwards,
- 3:19Speaker 1: shout out to the homie art I did a live
- 3:21Speaker 1: stream shout out to everybody who came through to chop
- 3:24Speaker 1: it up with us and kind of review and react
- 3:28Speaker 1: to what we saw. Everything I had to say about
- 3:32Speaker 1: it was there, and it's also available in the audio stream.
- 3:35Speaker 1: If you would just like to listen to it instead
- 3:37Speaker 1: of watching it, I would say watching it kind of
- 3:41Speaker 1: hits home a little bit more because we had a
- 3:43Speaker 1: little fun with it. And again, I know, I know,
- 3:47Speaker 1: if you like Kendrick Lamar, you're consider the k bot.
- 3:49Speaker 1: But guess what I'm sitting on Kendrick Lamar and Drake
- 3:52Speaker 1: albums because I liked both artists and j Cole I
- 3:57Speaker 1: liked both artists genuinely. It wasn't pick us out for
- 4:00Speaker 1: me ever, Now preference when it comes to battle rapping. Yeah,
- 4:06Speaker 1: I thought Kendrin would win, but I didn't think it
- 4:10Speaker 1: would go down the way it did. And there's a
- 4:13Speaker 1: lot of things that I already had my reservations about
- 4:17Speaker 1: Drake as a man, not as the artist, but as
- 4:20Speaker 1: a man, and some of it spilled into the art,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and I think Kendrick exposed some of that. But nevertheless,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I'm not as invested as the internet is. To argue
- 4:28Speaker 1: with you. I don't care. I still have my best
- 4:31Speaker 1: of Drakes that I go back to every now and again.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'm not going to review the new album here on
- 4:36Speaker 1: this podcast unless you want me to, because I think,
- 4:41Speaker 1: going by what I know my audience to be as
- 4:44Speaker 1: far as analytics and the people who respond and how
- 4:47Speaker 1: they respond to what they have to say, I'm the
- 4:49Speaker 1: only one in this crew who cares about listening to
- 4:53Speaker 1: Drake and party next door. But if you want the
- 4:57Speaker 1: quickest review possible, because I have listened, I like three
- 5:01Speaker 1: songs to go look it up and you you don't
- 5:04Speaker 1: see what we think about that, or you can hit
- 5:08Speaker 1: me up on social media at Vegas World, I NC
- 5:10Speaker 1: and I can tell you what detail you know why
- 5:14Speaker 1: I only like three songs off of that project and
- 5:17Speaker 1: why I don't like more. So there you have it.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Big shout out to hip Hop DX dot com, All
- 5:24Speaker 1: hip Hop dot Com, Double Excelle Magazine, and a couple
- 5:27Speaker 1: of places where I get some of these stories from.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Let's get right into the business OUTCAZ has been nominated
- 5:36Speaker 1: to or has become a nominee for the first time
- 5:42Speaker 1: for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now I
- 5:44Speaker 1: know there's some people who you know, it's a long
- 5:48Speaker 1: history of hip hop, not necessarily caring about the Grammys
- 5:51Speaker 1: or all the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because
- 5:54Speaker 1: it's the rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But the
- 5:56Speaker 1: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been inducted rappers
- 5:59Speaker 1: for some time now, and the Grammys had for the
- 6:03Speaker 1: most part, gotten it right with the nominees when it
- 6:07Speaker 1: comes to the albums, right like, if it's not all
- 6:11Speaker 1: five of the albums you or I would have at
- 6:15Speaker 1: the end of the year, there's some in there. There
- 6:19Speaker 1: was a time where there was nothing there like Common
- 6:22Speaker 1: and Pete Rock twenty years ago at the Grammys would
- 6:26Speaker 1: have never made it into Best of the Year as
- 6:29Speaker 1: a nominee. And don't think not winning an award like
- 6:34Speaker 1: the Grammys, it just means your trash. No, the nomination
- 6:39Speaker 1: holds weight as well. So I'm glad Pete Rock was
- 6:42Speaker 1: able to get a nomination. It's what hip hop wanted, right,
- 6:47Speaker 1: It's recognition. We didn't boycott these things because we just
- 6:51Speaker 1: felt like they were whack. We admired the Grammys and
- 6:54Speaker 1: an artist that one that Grammys or got into the
- 6:58Speaker 1: Rock and Hall of Fame, and we needed that recognition
- 7:04Speaker 1: and it was never recognized, so we just didn't watch it.
- 7:07Speaker 1: We just boycotty. Oh, you're not recognizing the finance and
- 7:10Speaker 1: what we have to offer, and you're not televising that
- 7:14Speaker 1: award either. Win. It's the biggest genre, especially now, you know,
- 7:20Speaker 1: out of all music genres, basically definitely streaming. So that's
- 7:24Speaker 1: where all of that boycott stuff comes from. It's not because, oh,
- 7:28Speaker 1: the Grammys is whack. It's because the Grammy's Rock and
- 7:31Speaker 1: Roll Hall of Fame. At one point, hip hop wasn't recognized.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Hip Hop is still young. Fifty years is still young
- 7:38Speaker 1: compared to other genres of music. Rights, some of those
- 7:43Speaker 1: genres go way beyond fifty years. Hip Hop is young.
- 7:47Speaker 1: It just happened, right, just kicked off. So to be
- 7:52Speaker 1: where we are today, to have a group like Outcasts
- 7:56Speaker 1: nominated in other groups make it into the Rock and
- 7:59Speaker 1: Hall of Fame because Big Boy ain't telling you all
- 8:02Speaker 1: to boycott. He telling you on a pole. I placed
- 8:06Speaker 1: my vote, I shared my vote on social media. I
- 8:09Speaker 1: think if you like Outcasts and you want to see
- 8:12Speaker 1: them honored in this way or any way in general,
- 8:16Speaker 1: any opportunity to honor Outcasts and then music, you should
- 8:21Speaker 1: go and vote for them because you have a say
- 8:24Speaker 1: and whether or not they get in. And I think
- 8:27Speaker 1: they should be first ballot, right, it's their first time
- 8:30Speaker 1: being nominated, they should be first ballot Hall of Famous.
- 8:36Speaker 1: So here's a list of some of the nominees. And
- 8:39Speaker 1: I think Outcasts is the only hip hop group. So
- 8:43Speaker 1: it's bad company. The Black Crows, Mariah Carrey, Chubby Chacker, Wow,
- 8:48Speaker 1: Chubby check is not in it. It's crazy Joe Cocker,
- 8:51Speaker 1: Billy Idel Joy. I can't see what this says, oh man,
- 8:57Speaker 1: they asked me to log in and all of that.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Hold up, yeah, hold up okay, Billy Idol, Joey Division
- 9:07Speaker 1: New or the Sydney Law per Manya Oasis, Outcast Fish
- 9:12Speaker 1: and I think that said sound Guard, but they make
- 9:16Speaker 1: a I would they make a list that on I
- 9:20Speaker 1: G that disappears like, man, I'm trying to read it,
- 9:24Speaker 1: but that's it. So there's really one hip hop act.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I think off the strength of that, we gotta get
- 9:30Speaker 1: behind outcasts and get them in there. You know, everybody
- 9:33Speaker 1: else fight for the pop spot and the jazz spot
- 9:36Speaker 1: and the balloons or whatever, the folk, the country, everybody
- 9:40Speaker 1: else fight for those spots. Right. I can't believe Billy
- 9:43Speaker 1: Idel is not in it either, because these are select
- 9:47Speaker 1: some iconic artists. I think Variah Carry is probably getting
- 9:52Speaker 1: in there easy. But as far as outcasts, uh, I
- 9:58Speaker 1: think when it comes to the to go and vote,
- 10:02Speaker 1: I would say, I got the link from Big Boys
- 10:05Speaker 1: tweet on Twitter, so we have a Twitter account, Go
- 10:09Speaker 1: to Big Boys page and find it. They probably also
- 10:13Speaker 1: posted it on ig or maybe you could just google
- 10:19Speaker 1: the words, like you know, cast your ballot for the
- 10:23Speaker 1: twenty twenty five Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and
- 10:27Speaker 1: then you can just go vote biodcasts do it for
- 10:30Speaker 1: hip hop. In other news, what do we have here?
- 10:37Speaker 1: Hold up? We got Instagram? In other news, Cameron basically
- 10:44Speaker 1: tells us the story behind why we never got the
- 10:49Speaker 1: Lil Wayne Juice Santana collaboration. Now, around the time of
- 10:55Speaker 1: the Carter three and maybe a little bit before that,
- 11:00Speaker 1: there was hype around a collaboration between Lil Wayne and
- 11:05Speaker 1: Jules Santana, and they had done some songs together and
- 11:08Speaker 1: they actually sound They their styles, their voices complimented each other,
- 11:13Speaker 1: So I was low key kind of looking forward to it.
- 11:16Speaker 1: This is on hip Hop dx dot com and Cameron
- 11:21Speaker 1: gave some insight. The name of oh Boy the half
- 11:26Speaker 1: for guy. This was the name of the mixtape. I
- 11:29Speaker 1: can't feel my face if you know, you know, if
- 11:34Speaker 1: you if you've seen Jules Santana while his dentures and
- 11:37Speaker 1: you know his story and you've seen Wayne, Yeah, they
- 11:43Speaker 1: probably couldn't feel their face. But here's what what's listed
- 11:49Speaker 1: on hip Hop d x the article. In the mid
- 11:51Speaker 1: two thousands, Jewels and Weezy had fans in a frenzy
- 11:55Speaker 1: with reports of a joint album on the horizon, but
- 11:58Speaker 1: nothing came to light. There ended up being a version
- 12:02Speaker 1: of the album that leaked online and there was very
- 12:05Speaker 1: little fanfare compared to what it could have been had
- 12:08Speaker 1: the project got a full release. I don't know if
- 12:11Speaker 1: I heard that now, I think about it. But on
- 12:17Speaker 1: Cambron's latest episode of his show Talk with Flea, he
- 12:22Speaker 1: addressed it, and here's what he said, and I quote
- 12:28Speaker 1: Killer addressed the ongoing narrative that he blocked the effort
- 12:33Speaker 1: from coming out, though he did admit it was when
- 12:37Speaker 1: we wasn't all on the same page. Okay, whatever, Phy's
- 12:41Speaker 1: a quote. Lowayne wasn't the super superstar the dipset rapper began.
- 12:48Speaker 1: He was a star, but remember Lil Wayne emerged into
- 12:51Speaker 1: a superstar after the Carter albums and Milly and all
- 12:56Speaker 1: that ish, So Wayne didn't put out his first album
- 13:00Speaker 1: at this point, Caim, I don't know if you're remembering
- 13:06Speaker 1: the timeline, but let's keep going. So Jewles and Lil
- 13:10Speaker 1: Wayne had a project Deaf I had a project def
- 13:14Speaker 1: Jam is under Universal, which Low Wayne was signed to.
- 13:17Speaker 1: So when they wanted to put the project out, Universal
- 13:20Speaker 1: told Death Jam, while Lol Wayne still didn't give us
- 13:24Speaker 1: his album yet. So if y'all want to put his
- 13:26Speaker 1: project out, we're taking ninety five percent, and death Jam
- 13:31Speaker 1: y'all could take five percent. So Steve Garley shout out
- 13:35Speaker 1: to Steve Garley, he's now the head lawyer for a
- 13:38Speaker 1: universal and at the time he was the head lawyer
- 13:40Speaker 1: for death Jam and we're still good to this day.
- 13:44Speaker 1: We had a joint venture deal with death Jam, so
- 13:46Speaker 1: if that project came out, that means death Jam would
- 13:49Speaker 1: get two point five percent of the album and me
- 13:52Speaker 1: and Jewles would get two point five percent of the album.
- 13:56Speaker 1: And they said, can we love you and all that,
- 13:59Speaker 1: but we're not doing that. We can't do that. And
- 14:04Speaker 1: they was more on the tip because Low Wayne didn't
- 14:06Speaker 1: even hand in his project yet, so they like, how
- 14:10Speaker 1: are we going to okay the Jews and Wayne project?
- 14:13Speaker 1: If Lol Wayne didn't even hand in his project, maybe
- 14:17Speaker 1: we can revisit it after Lil Wayne's project comes out,
- 14:21Speaker 1: but until then no, So he goes on to speak
- 14:25Speaker 1: a little bit more about this and in essence, the
- 14:30Speaker 1: teasing of this project was around five six, right. Lol
- 14:38Speaker 1: Wayne released The Carter in four, so his first album,
- 14:44Speaker 1: and in four with his fourth album, studio album Okay.
- 14:50Speaker 1: The platinum selling The Carter three followed a year and
- 14:52Speaker 1: a half later at two thousand and five. So this
- 14:55Speaker 1: is the thing, right, It's just like I said, they
- 14:58Speaker 1: around the Carter, well, the Carter two between the Carter
- 15:02Speaker 1: two and three, they were teasing the album. So Cam
- 15:06Speaker 1: saying he didn't even release an album yet seems weird because,
- 15:11Speaker 1: for one, Lowayne had albums before the Carter right, So
- 15:16Speaker 1: maybe he's just talking about a new deal that started
- 15:19Speaker 1: with the Carter series, right, So maybe that the release
- 15:23Speaker 1: of the albums versus when they were making these deals.
- 15:26Speaker 1: To making these decisions are another thing, because maybe the
- 15:30Speaker 1: album isn't handed in at the time they're discussing a
- 15:34Speaker 1: deal to release this joint of collaborative album. To me,
- 15:39Speaker 1: it felt like right in between the Carter two and
- 15:42Speaker 1: the car To three and jus Antanne was on the
- 15:45Speaker 1: Carter three was the time to release it. But apparently
- 15:51Speaker 1: it never happened and they didn't like to splits and
- 15:53Speaker 1: he goes into more detail about it. But it's unfortunate
- 15:59Speaker 1: and maybe this is a big maybe maybe because of
- 16:07Speaker 1: today where we've received like I don't know what happened
- 16:11Speaker 1: to it on streaming services, but like the actual Jay
- 16:16Speaker 1: Electronica solo album that was supposed to release, remember it
- 16:22Speaker 1: dropped the same time he dropped that joint with Jay,
- 16:26Speaker 1: but I don't know what happened to it on streaming services.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Because now you can't find it. It's called Act Too.
- 16:33Speaker 1: It actually dropped and most it wasn't really that great,
- 16:39Speaker 1: but I guess that's because we had heard some of
- 16:42Speaker 1: the songs that were on there, and too much time
- 16:45Speaker 1: had passed. I think like ten years had passed, but
- 16:48Speaker 1: we still got the Jay Electronica album. And again I'm
- 16:52Speaker 1: not talking about the one with jay Z. I'm talking
- 16:53Speaker 1: about the solo album we had been waiting for. We
- 16:56Speaker 1: got it during the pandemic. Same thing with even though
- 17:00Speaker 1: it is only on vinyl. Same thing with Nads I
- 17:03Speaker 1: am the biography we finally got like aficial release. It
- 17:10Speaker 1: was only on vinyl. I haven't right, but at least
- 17:15Speaker 1: it came out officially. Most of us from back in
- 17:18Speaker 1: that time or whatever have been excuse me, listening to
- 17:22Speaker 1: the bootleg forever, which was fine by me, but there
- 17:27Speaker 1: was never really official release. And then there's been other
- 17:30Speaker 1: joints like Rod Digga album that got shelled finally, so
- 17:33Speaker 1: the light of day Foxy Brown's final album, which to
- 17:38Speaker 1: me was it might be her best. I ain't gonna
- 17:42Speaker 1: lie out of her catalog. It was too that was
- 17:45Speaker 1: finally released some years later. So I and I large
- 17:51Speaker 1: Professor's album The LP, Like all of these albums that
- 17:55Speaker 1: were highly anticipated or projects that were highly dissipated but
- 18:00Speaker 1: never dropped, eventually because of time and streaming and all
- 18:06Speaker 1: that stuff saw the light of day, like we actually
- 18:09Speaker 1: have a copy. Even Power of a dollar fifty cent
- 18:13Speaker 1: shelved album from Colombia saw a release years later. So
- 18:20Speaker 1: to me, even though I would not want a new
- 18:25Speaker 1: Lil Wayne and Jules Santana collaboro because I feel like
- 18:29Speaker 1: Lil Wayne when it comes to the music, like recorded
- 18:32Speaker 1: in the studio, you know, he still got it. Jews.
- 18:36Speaker 1: On the other hand, it feels like the time has
- 18:40Speaker 1: passed where we really cared about what he does and
- 18:43Speaker 1: what he has to say, even though he's released records
- 18:46Speaker 1: that I kind of like. But I think he stayed
- 18:48Speaker 1: away from the game a little too long, you know.
- 18:52Speaker 1: But if they are sitting on that collaborative project from
- 18:57Speaker 1: back then, I think with the context of knowing like
- 19:02Speaker 1: this was supposed to drop in five or six or
- 19:06Speaker 1: whatever it was in between. Once you had that context
- 19:10Speaker 1: of when it was supposed to drop, and you think
- 19:11Speaker 1: back to who Lula Wayne was at that time and
- 19:14Speaker 1: who June Santana was at that time, and uh, you know,
- 19:18Speaker 1: even at collaborations. To me, it's an easy listen. After that,
- 19:22Speaker 1: I know, like, this is not new, but this is
- 19:25Speaker 1: something I've never heard. Let me know in the comments
- 19:29Speaker 1: section if you've heard the lead version of this project,
- 19:33Speaker 1: because I haven't. And from what the little bit that
- 19:36Speaker 1: I read, it seems like they said it would have
- 19:40Speaker 1: been They would it would have benefited from an official
- 19:43Speaker 1: release as to pose opposed to how it was released.
- 19:46Speaker 1: So I don't know. We'll see and last all right,
- 19:53Speaker 1: So West Side Gun at one point took a break,
- 19:59Speaker 1: you know, from rapping, a real break in probably towards
- 20:05Speaker 1: the end of twenty twenty four. He dropped like two albums,
- 20:08Speaker 1: one which was like an EP wasn't really that great
- 20:11Speaker 1: to me, I forget the name. Then the other one,
- 20:15Speaker 1: which I also forget the name. Oh I can't keep
- 20:18Speaker 1: forgetting the names. But hey man, I'm saying, it's just
- 20:21Speaker 1: so much music that comes down sometimes. Still Praying that's
- 20:24Speaker 1: the one that had Sid Vicious from Wrestling on the cover,
- 20:30Speaker 1: And even though the EP prior to that that he
- 20:33Speaker 1: released wasn't good to me, Still Praying was okay. But
- 20:39Speaker 1: I had a high expectations because Westside Gold had kind
- 20:43Speaker 1: of taken a break. I believe his brother passed away,
- 20:48Speaker 1: but now he has a new project which is kind
- 20:50Speaker 1: of dedicated to his brother, who I believe his name
- 20:54Speaker 1: is Big Dump. Wait did he pass away? Well, yeah,
- 20:59Speaker 1: he didn't have a brother that passed away, right, I
- 21:02Speaker 1: don't know, Please in the comments if I'm mixing up
- 21:05Speaker 1: somebody locked up versus somebody who passed But I'm almost
- 21:10Speaker 1: positive it was his brother that passed away, and that's
- 21:13Speaker 1: what he's talking about. But he has a new project
- 21:17Speaker 1: out called twelve. On the cover it says Free Sly
- 21:22Speaker 1: or Big Dump, right, So to me, it's a dedication album,
- 21:28Speaker 1: but not necessarily an album that's or related to that, right.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I guess you can call it almost like a celebration of,
- 21:38Speaker 1: you know, his life or whatever. But I have to
- 21:42Speaker 1: tell y'all, you know my review scale for these types
- 21:46Speaker 1: of things. The first listen it was just let me
- 21:51Speaker 1: hear what you got. Second listen is all right, let
- 21:54Speaker 1: me let me hear what you got, let me hear
- 21:56Speaker 1: the details, let me dig into what's being said, the concept,
- 22:00Speaker 1: all that stuff, and the third listener is just to
- 22:03Speaker 1: confirm what I heard and for a project that is
- 22:08Speaker 1: eleven songs coming in around forty four minutes in length.
- 22:13Speaker 1: As far as time, I really like it. It's probably
- 22:20Speaker 1: the one album from him that I've liked in a
- 22:25Speaker 1: long time. Let me see, let me just go to
- 22:28Speaker 1: West Side Gun's catalog real quick on my phone. Please
- 22:32Speaker 1: don't kill me for it, but I'm just saying I
- 22:34Speaker 1: just need to look to get a sense of the
- 22:38Speaker 1: last new project that I like from the last new
- 22:41Speaker 1: project I liked from West Side Gun was in or
- 22:45Speaker 1: liked a lot? Was in twenty twenty two? Is the
- 22:49Speaker 1: album called ten. That was the last time I really
- 22:53Speaker 1: liked it because he had then You Pray for Me?
- 22:55Speaker 1: That wasn't that great? Paul in Nash two was kind
- 22:59Speaker 1: of like some older stuff with him and Conway and
- 23:02Speaker 1: I dug it. But I don't really go back to
- 23:04Speaker 1: it still praying It's funny because that EP is. Where's
- 23:09Speaker 1: that EP at? It's not here anymore? Or do you
- 23:12Speaker 1: take it off? I think the EP was, Yeah, it
- 23:15Speaker 1: was called eleven. I didn't really like that. But this
- 23:18Speaker 1: new project, twelve, I like it a lot. I like
- 23:23Speaker 1: it a lot. I like the beats, the prims, I
- 23:27Speaker 1: like the fact that it's not long, and it has
- 23:30Speaker 1: like sometimes there could be too many songs, and sometimes
- 23:35Speaker 1: he believes something's more ill than I do as a
- 23:39Speaker 1: as a fan of his, Like, it's not that ill.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Like nothing, whatever, magical, whatever you think is happening is
- 23:46Speaker 1: not happening. Right, It's like an art work in the city.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I'm just sitting there, like, No, it's not, it's not
- 23:54Speaker 1: it's it just sounds like the same thing as just me.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Some people may feel that way about this twelve joint,
- 24:00Speaker 1: but not no way. This album is more of a
- 24:03Speaker 1: collaboration than just a Westside Gun solo album. I guess
- 24:07Speaker 1: you can say that about most of his projects, but
- 24:10Speaker 1: I think this one more than most because st Nak
- 24:17Speaker 1: and did I say that right? Is that his name
- 24:20Speaker 1: and Stove God cooks on like every song on here
- 24:26Speaker 1: except for two. There's only two songs where either one
- 24:30Speaker 1: of those guys don't appear. A dude named brother Tom
- 24:34Speaker 1: so Os is on here. If that's not you say
- 24:38Speaker 1: his name, okay, cool, let me know. I don't know.
- 24:41Speaker 1: I can't keep up with these days. Oh hold up,
- 24:44Speaker 1: hold on. I hate playing Mama State. No, don't want
- 24:48Speaker 1: that to play. Some of the standouts for me the
- 24:53Speaker 1: Boswell track, the first song you hear. I felt like
- 24:56Speaker 1: that gout be writing gear with this joint as soon
- 24:59Speaker 1: as I heard it. Adam Page was dope feature in
- 25:02Speaker 1: Stove God. First of all stove If you love Stove
- 25:04Speaker 1: God cooks, he's a where he's where, he has a verse.
- 25:11Speaker 1: He's stepped on this project like he it is. It's
- 25:18Speaker 1: what I need when I wont like yo, when we
- 25:20Speaker 1: gonna get a Stove God album, Like, okay, I'm good
- 25:24Speaker 1: for a little while. I feel like I got something.
- 25:28Speaker 1: So it's that I feel like, Oh, I like fifty five,
- 25:33Speaker 1: that's another one that's good. I like what's his other one,
- 25:39Speaker 1: Outlander that's Westside done by myself, and I like the
- 25:42Speaker 1: final track, which is called Dumb World. I feel like
- 25:46Speaker 1: this album has it's almost like a tail of two
- 25:49Speaker 1: halves and it's not the worst thing in the world
- 25:52Speaker 1: because the sequences is you you kind of get the
- 25:56Speaker 1: boom bag, but you get the drums and you get
- 25:59Speaker 1: it feels or high energy, and then somewhere in the middle, specifically,
- 26:04Speaker 1: when you hit the song health Science, the tempo the
- 26:09Speaker 1: vibe slows down a little bit, and it's that way
- 26:12Speaker 1: almost throughout the album, the rest of the album until
- 26:17Speaker 1: maybe dump World, which is the last track. So it's
- 26:20Speaker 1: almost like, you know, you start off, you know, we hype,
- 26:25Speaker 1: you know, mad gunn sounds coming at you, and then
- 26:28Speaker 1: it all slows down and it becomes more methodical, you
- 26:33Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And I don't mean that trying
- 26:35Speaker 1: to be like super lyrical miracles spiritual hip hop fan talk.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I mean like they taking their time at that point,
- 26:44Speaker 1: which is cool. You know, I didn't mind it, you know,
- 26:47Speaker 1: but that opening as what had me like, Yeah, I'm
- 26:50Speaker 1: kind of liking this project. I feel like brother Tom
- 26:56Speaker 1: and Sos or whatever his name is, who is probably
- 27:00Speaker 1: an artists who's on Griselda, and he's very different from
- 27:04Speaker 1: the other artists on on Griselda Records. I think he
- 27:09Speaker 1: drags down the vibe a little bit. He can run,
- 27:14Speaker 1: he's talking that talk, but there's something about him that
- 27:18Speaker 1: feels like when you're listening to the animation that Westside
- 27:23Speaker 1: Gun brings to a track, the animation that Stole God
- 27:27Speaker 1: brings to a track, and even st Nat right like
- 27:33Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about him, even his energy, it's everything
- 27:37Speaker 1: is up extra hypestylized I like the way, like, you know,
- 27:42Speaker 1: because I was listening in the car, and I like
- 27:44Speaker 1: the way. You know, there's always ad libs and sound
- 27:48Speaker 1: effects and all that, but there's a lot here, but
- 27:51Speaker 1: I feel like it's well placed. And they played with
- 27:54Speaker 1: the left and right channels with him also, so if
- 27:57Speaker 1: you got a good set of headphones or or speakers
- 28:00Speaker 1: at home or in your car or whatever, you'll be
- 28:03Speaker 1: able to hear you know, the things I was saying,
- 28:05Speaker 1: like they were taking advantage of spatial audio for those
- 28:08Speaker 1: who don't know what that is. That's when not just
- 28:12Speaker 1: left and right channels, but you can make different sounds
- 28:16Speaker 1: sound like they're behind you or further away or closer
- 28:20Speaker 1: and things like that. So it kind of played into
- 28:24Speaker 1: the listening experience for me. And I feel like this dude,
- 28:29Speaker 1: brother Tom Sos or whatever, he just didn't fit. So
- 28:34Speaker 1: it kind of like, for example, he's on the song
- 28:38Speaker 1: health Science. That track, I feel like it's cool, Okay,
- 28:41Speaker 1: everything is slowing down, you got a new guy or whatever,
- 28:43Speaker 1: but it feels like a detour from the album you're
- 28:46Speaker 1: listening to when you get to that the song gumbo
- 28:50Speaker 1: ya Ya, I had to skip three times every time
- 28:54Speaker 1: I went first listen, I was like, enough, skip right
- 28:59Speaker 1: third time. The second time I was like, okay, I'm
- 29:03Speaker 1: try to the end, and then I just skip, Like
- 29:06Speaker 1: why are you trying? You don't like it? Okay, third listen.
- 29:09Speaker 1: As soon as I saw it was coming up, skip,
- 29:12Speaker 1: get that skip really skip, you know, skip like Shannon Sharp.
- 29:18Speaker 1: So that was one thing that I kind of was like,
- 29:24Speaker 1: But to me, it didn't make me dislike the album
- 29:27Speaker 1: as a whole. And if there's one song that I skip,
- 29:32Speaker 1: also skip is bury me with a stove. Now. When
- 29:39Speaker 1: I read that title, I was like, okay, nothing stove guy.
- 29:42Speaker 1: He's not on it, and s Steve Nakin's on it
- 29:47Speaker 1: and he has a verse and I like when he rhymes.
- 29:50Speaker 1: But man, if you could hit a hook, zombie rapping zombie.
- 29:58Speaker 1: I'm not exaggerating, Like he's wigging up from getting knocked
- 30:05Speaker 1: out by the Hulk and like his jaws broken. He
- 30:07Speaker 1: don't know what he is and he's disoriented and all
- 30:10Speaker 1: he could do is like murmur some something out to
- 30:15Speaker 1: let you know that. It says helped me, Like I'm
- 30:19Speaker 1: not joking, I'm not joking. I'm in the car with
- 30:24Speaker 1: my wife and she knows I'm reviewing this, so we
- 30:27Speaker 1: gotta listen, and she's just staring at me, like, so,
- 30:31Speaker 1: you're not gonna skip this one. It's just not good.
- 30:37Speaker 1: I know there's some dudes out there. I mean, I
- 30:40Speaker 1: know some of y'all love like that. You don't know
- 30:43Speaker 1: about killing No, I don't know. Skip skip, Okay, skip
- 30:50Speaker 1: it skip. That's that's what happened. But with that being said,
- 30:56Speaker 1: considering there's only eleven songs, only forty four minutes, I'm
- 31:02Speaker 1: a West Side Gun than I like, I like a little,
- 31:07Speaker 1: I like, I love Stove, God cooks. You know what
- 31:10Speaker 1: I'm saying. I like ste Nak, right, I have no
- 31:13Speaker 1: problem with him beyond that one hook. That's it. And
- 31:17Speaker 1: even this dude, brother Tom Sos doesn't bring this album
- 31:21Speaker 1: down to be feeling like it's one of the best
- 31:26Speaker 1: of the year already for me. Now, always do this
- 31:31Speaker 1: because there's certain people who have opinions about artists, and
- 31:35Speaker 1: what I say won't make them like or hate it. Right, So,
- 31:39Speaker 1: if you love Westside Gun, you love everything he does,
- 31:43Speaker 1: you might start calling this classic. I wouldn't agree with you,
- 31:45Speaker 1: but you might because I feel like this is the
- 31:48Speaker 1: best he's done since twenty twenty two. That's how I
- 31:53Speaker 1: feel about it. You know what I'm saying. If you
- 31:57Speaker 1: don't like foot boom boom boom boom, you like getting
- 32:00Speaker 1: shot at in the track, like, you don't like all
- 32:02Speaker 1: of that, it is not for you. You don't like
- 32:07Speaker 1: stove guy talking about a stove like it's supposed to
- 32:11Speaker 1: be so special, Like why is he? Like? Why is
- 32:15Speaker 1: he talking about the stove like that? You're not gonna
- 32:18Speaker 1: like it. But if you like me, hip hop is
- 32:22Speaker 1: a variety of things with a variety of artists who
- 32:24Speaker 1: bring different, you know, sounds and flows and lyrics to
- 32:29Speaker 1: the table. And I feel like, what'side gun lyrics? I
- 32:32Speaker 1: was kind of like he rap and rapping, So I like,
- 32:37Speaker 1: you know again, will it be my top five of
- 32:41Speaker 1: the year? I would say that would be tough to
- 32:44Speaker 1: call right now because there's a lot of supposedly hopefully
- 32:51Speaker 1: dope projects on the horizon for this year that could
- 32:55Speaker 1: potentially be better than this. But I feel as far
- 32:58Speaker 1: as like, when I look back at the year at
- 33:01Speaker 1: the end of this year, this will be one of
- 33:04Speaker 1: the first albums I was like, I got an album
- 33:07Speaker 1: that released in twenty twenty five that I'm going to
- 33:10Speaker 1: listen to on a regular basis so they ain't have it.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Have you heard what side Gunn's brand new album twelve?
- 33:17Speaker 1: Leave your review in the commons section of this podcast.

- 33:23Speaker 1: what you feel about it. Do you like that? Hope
- 33:29Speaker 1: you like that? Okay, you know, but let me know why.
