- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, you guys. I'm Haley and I'm Andrea, and
- 0:03Speaker 1: this is Inhuman. So today's case is one that was
- 0:08Speaker 1: also recently solved, just like Andrea's case last week, and
- 0:11Speaker 1: a conviction was made, but it is a little bit
- 0:13Speaker 1: more recent. It wasn't cold for quite so long. And
- 0:16Speaker 1: I am so freaking happy to be sharing a solved
- 0:19Speaker 1: case and one that was recently solved. I had heard
- 0:22Speaker 1: this story a long time ago, and it's been a
- 0:26Speaker 1: very long process to get justice, like before it was solved. Yeah, okay, yeah,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and uh yeah, it's been a long it's been a
- 0:35Speaker 1: long time. But today I am covering the murder of
- 0:38Speaker 1: Dylan red Wine. And just a little warning. He was
- 0:42Speaker 1: a kid when he was murdered. He was I think
- 0:45Speaker 1: thirteen years old, So just like a little warning.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I don't think I know this one.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah, it's a it's a lot. Yeah, it's an
- 0:54Speaker 1: interesting one. So okay, let's just get into it, okay.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Dylan Nicholas red Wine was born February sixth, nineteen ninety
- 1:01Speaker 1: nine to Mark and Elaine red Wine in Colorado. And
- 1:05Speaker 1: this just like hits really close to home because my
- 1:08Speaker 1: sister was also born in nineteen ninety nine, so it's
- 1:10Speaker 1: just like, you know, around my sister's age.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Well one of my sisters. Yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Dylan had one older brother, Corey, and two half siblings
- 1:19Speaker 1: from his father's first marriage, and he was known as
- 1:22Speaker 1: being like quiet but still social. He loved to play baseball,
- 1:26Speaker 1: and he loved hanging out with his friends, and like
- 1:29Speaker 1: most teenagers, he was obsessed with his phone, always on it.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Dylan's dad, Mark, was a trucker, so he would be
- 1:36Speaker 1: like gone for long stretches of time for his job,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and this, of course was tough on the family and
- 1:42Speaker 1: on his wife, and it led to a lot of
- 1:44Speaker 1: marital problems between Mark and Elaine, which like totally understandable.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Eventually Mark and Elaine got divorced after they had been
- 1:52Speaker 1: together for eighteen years. Oh man, So it was really sad.
- 1:56Speaker 1: But unfortunately the divorce did not go well. And I mean,
- 2:01Speaker 1: I'm sure most divorces don't go well, but like I know,
- 2:05Speaker 1: some are kind of more like amiable and low kei
- 2:07Speaker 1: and like you know, a nice split, but not this one.
- 2:11Speaker 1: It was super messy and there was a really nasty
- 2:15Speaker 1: custody battle over the kids. So of course this took
- 2:19Speaker 1: a very you know, took a toll on Dylan and Corey,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and as part of the custody battle, the judge actually
- 2:26Speaker 1: met with the two boys to talk to them about
- 2:28Speaker 1: like which parent they wanted to live with. And this
- 2:30Speaker 1: kind of surprised me because I didn't think judges would
- 2:33Speaker 1: do that, but at the same time, like, yeah, they
- 2:35Speaker 1: were in their teens, so I guess it makes sense.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Like, and it depends on your state too, Like some
- 2:41Speaker 4: states they don't even give a rats ask about what
- 2:43Speaker 4: the kid thinks, but then other states, like once you
- 2:45Speaker 4: are a teenager, like thirteen, I think is the most
- 2:49Speaker 4: thirteen to sixteen is the normal age they do consider
- 2:53Speaker 4: that well interesting, especially if both parents are fighting and
- 2:56Speaker 4: they have a good case behind them.
- 2:58Speaker 2: They definitely want to take iteration.
- 3:01Speaker 1: That's good. That's good to like hear, because it definitely
- 3:03Speaker 1: I feel like kids should have a say in that.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah they should, I think, so definitely.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Okay, cool, So yeah, So the judge did that, and
- 3:11Speaker 1: Dylan told the judge that he did not want to
- 3:14Speaker 1: live with his father. Dylan and his father, Mark's relationship
- 3:18Speaker 1: was always kind of off, but when Mark and Elaine
- 3:20Speaker 1: were going through the divorce, Dylan grew even farther apart
- 3:23Speaker 1: from his father. He was really upset with the way
- 3:26Speaker 1: that Mark was treating his mom. So Dylan told a
- 3:29Speaker 1: judge during the custody battle that he wanted to live
- 3:32Speaker 1: with his mom, and Elaine was granted full custody of Dylan,
- 3:36Speaker 1: and Mark was going to have visitation. Okay, And I
- 3:39Speaker 1: couldn't find exactly what happened with Corey, but by the
- 3:42Speaker 1: time this was all kind of done, he was eighteen, so.
- 3:46Speaker 2: They probably kept them together.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and he he chose, as you know, an adult,
- 3:51Speaker 1: once he's eighteen, he gets to choose. And he chose
- 3:53Speaker 1: also to not live with his father. Interesting, Okay, So Dylan,
- 3:58Speaker 1: who was thirteen, was living with his mom and her
- 4:01Speaker 1: boyfriend in a town near Colorado Springs, and Mark was
- 4:04Speaker 1: living in Bayfield, Colorado, which is basically like the other
- 4:08Speaker 1: side and like south in Colorado near Durango, and he
- 4:12Speaker 1: would Mark was going to get visitation with Dylan, and
- 4:15Speaker 1: again Corey wasn't required to visit because he was eighteen,
- 4:18Speaker 1: so he didn't have to do anything anymore.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:22Speaker 1: The visitation that Mark had usually ended up in him
- 4:26Speaker 1: and Dylan arguing and from reports, it seemed like Mark
- 4:29Speaker 1: was kind of like taking out his frustration about the
- 4:33Speaker 1: entire divorce and his frustration with his ex wife on Dylan.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So it just didn't go well and Dylan didn't love it.
- 4:41Speaker 1: But of course, like having arguments wouldn't change the court
- 4:45Speaker 1: what the court ruled, and he had visitations, so Dylan
- 4:49Speaker 1: had to keep going to visit him.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Yeah, and you have to comply, unfortunately in some cases.
- 4:55Speaker 1: You know, I'm sure Elaine was worried about like losing
- 4:58Speaker 1: custody if they didn't comply. Yeah, So on November eighteenth,
- 5:02Speaker 1: twenty twelve, Elaine drove Dylan to the airport so he
- 5:05Speaker 1: could fly down to visit his father for the week
- 5:08Speaker 1: of Thanksgiving. And you know, they both live in Colorado,
- 5:11Speaker 1: but it was like a good like six hour drive,
- 5:13Speaker 1: so that's why he was flying down. And as I mentioned,
- 5:17Speaker 1: this was court ordered, so he had to go, but
- 5:19Speaker 1: Dylan was dreading it. He did not want to visit
- 5:22Speaker 1: his father with their strained relationship. And then he was
- 5:25Speaker 1: also upset because this time his brother Corey would not
- 5:28Speaker 1: be going with him, so Dylan was going to be
- 5:31Speaker 1: all alone with his father and his father's like house,
- 5:36Speaker 1: in where he lived was a little more like isolated
- 5:39Speaker 1: and stuff, so he just was like dreading it. O,
- 5:41Speaker 1: that's so sad. Dylan texted his mom when the plane landed,
- 5:45Speaker 1: and he was clearly still upset that he was there,
- 5:48Speaker 1: and he said like something along the lines of you know,
- 5:51Speaker 1: my plane landed, and then sent like a sad face emoji.
- 5:54Speaker 1: So he just was like not not happy. Yeah, And
- 5:57Speaker 1: that was the last message that Dylan ever sent to
- 5:59Speaker 1: his mother. So Mark picked Dylan up from the airport
- 6:03Speaker 1: around six pm that evening and the true two drove
- 6:06Speaker 1: back towards Mark Mark's cabin. They stopped at Walmart and
- 6:11Speaker 1: at a McDonald's to pick up dinner, and that night,
- 6:15Speaker 1: Dylan asked his dad if he could stay at one
- 6:17Speaker 1: of his friend's house nearby. He was like, you know,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I want to go stay with a friend, and Mark
- 6:22Speaker 1: didn't let him. So Mark was like, no, you have
- 6:25Speaker 1: to stay home tonight, and so Dylan made plans to
- 6:28Speaker 1: meet up with his friend at six point thirty the
- 6:30Speaker 1: next morning, which, like, to me, that just shows like
- 6:33Speaker 1: I gotta get out here. Yeah, Like you're a teenage
- 6:37Speaker 1: kid on like Thanksgiving break and you want to meet
- 6:39Speaker 1: up at six thirty, Like you must not be very
- 6:42Speaker 1: happy with where you are.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:44Speaker 1: So now I'm going to go through Mark's account of
- 6:46Speaker 1: the next day, Monday, November nineteenth, So this next part
- 6:50Speaker 1: is all his account of what happened. So Mark said
- 6:53Speaker 1: that Dylan had slept in past the six point thirty
- 6:56Speaker 1: he was supposed to meet his friend, and slept in
- 6:59Speaker 1: till like seven seven thirty, and Mark woke up around
- 7:02Speaker 1: seven thirty and he headed out of the house to
- 7:05Speaker 1: run some errands, and he returned to the house around
- 7:07Speaker 1: eleven thirty am. When he got home, he said that
- 7:10Speaker 1: he found Dylan or he found the front door open,
- 7:13Speaker 1: the TV on to Nickelodeon, and a bowl of cereal
- 7:17Speaker 1: on the table, but no Dylan. And he also he
- 7:22Speaker 1: had said before he left that he had like tried
- 7:24Speaker 1: to wake Dylan up, so Dylan had like known that
- 7:28Speaker 1: he was leaving the house to go run errands.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Okay, did he wake him or did he just go
- 7:33Speaker 2: back to sleep?
- 7:33Speaker 1: Hunt, I don't know. He I think he kind of
- 7:36Speaker 1: like went back to sleep, Like it wasn't like, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 1: you have to get up right now. It was kind
- 7:40Speaker 1: of like, hey, I'm leaving, just letting him know. So
- 7:44Speaker 1: Mark said that Dylan's cell phone, backpack, and fishing pole
- 7:47Speaker 1: were all missing, so he figured that he had left
- 7:50Speaker 1: to go meet up with his friend like he planned
- 7:52Speaker 1: the night before, and he didn't really think anything of
- 7:54Speaker 1: it because you know, Dylan was like hanging out with friends,
- 7:59Speaker 1: and he went to take a nap and he slept
- 8:02Speaker 1: for about two hours, waking up around one point thirty.
- 8:04Speaker 1: And when he woke up, he found that Dylan still
- 8:07Speaker 1: was not home. So he was like, Okay, that's kind
- 8:09Speaker 1: of weird. So he got a bit more worried and
- 8:12Speaker 1: he started like texting and calling Dylan to figure out
- 8:15Speaker 1: where he was and got no response. So he eventually
- 8:18Speaker 1: went out to look for Dylan, and he checked in
- 8:22Speaker 1: with Dylan's friends and two of them told him that
- 8:25Speaker 1: they had been trying to get in contact with Dylan
- 8:27Speaker 1: all day but hadn't heard anything.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Oh no.
- 8:30Speaker 1: So at this point Mark was like, Okay, there's something wrong.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Nobody's heard from him. So he went to the Bayfield
- 8:37Speaker 1: Marshall's office to report him missing, and he also reached
- 8:39Speaker 1: out to his ex wife Elaine to see if she
- 8:42Speaker 1: knew anything. And this is like one thing that I
- 8:45Speaker 1: kept hearing that kind of I was like, hmm. There
- 8:48Speaker 1: were like people saying how ridiculous it was that Mark
- 8:53Speaker 1: reached out to Elane like saying, like, do you know
- 8:55Speaker 1: where Dylan is? Because she was six hours away. Yeah,
- 8:59Speaker 1: it kind of I was like, Okay, I get that,
- 9:01Speaker 1: You're like he I mean, she likely doesn't know where
- 9:06Speaker 1: he is, but maybe he like he tried to go home. Yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 1: So I don't really like I get why he texted Elaine.
- 9:14Speaker 1: He knew that Dylan hadn't been happy, and you know,
- 9:18Speaker 1: maybe Dylan had found a way to get back to
- 9:21Speaker 1: his mom's house or something like that, or.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Maybe she had like a suggestion as to where he
- 9:25Speaker 4: could be, like what his thought process was, like his mom.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So so I understand that from Mark's perspective.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:34Speaker 1: So Elaine also went and reported Dylan missing to the
- 9:38Speaker 1: Sheriff's office because of course she hadn't heard from him.
- 9:41Speaker 1: And then her, her boyfriend Mike, and her older son
- 9:45Speaker 1: Corey drove down or started the drive down to Durango,
- 9:48Speaker 1: the Durango area from Colorado Springs, and like I said,
- 9:51Speaker 1: it was about a six hour drive. So they headed
- 9:53Speaker 1: down and they got there late Monday night, and when
- 9:56Speaker 1: they got there, they spoke with the sheriff. They started
- 9:59Speaker 1: c like the area all around Mark's house, talking to friends,
- 10:04Speaker 1: like you know, just canvassing the whole area, trying to
- 10:07Speaker 1: see if they could find him. And oddly enough, Mark
- 10:10Speaker 1: was not out searching with them, so you know, suspicious, suspicious. Yeah,
- 10:16Speaker 1: So one thing that really worried the family was Dylan's
- 10:19Speaker 1: lack of phone contact with anyone since the night before.
- 10:23Speaker 1: As I mentioned, he was a typical teenager. He loved
- 10:26Speaker 1: being on his phone, and he apparently was always texting
- 10:29Speaker 1: people and talking to people on social media and stuff. Yeah,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and the last message that was sent from Dylan was
- 10:35Speaker 1: at nine thirty seven PM on Sunday night, when he
- 10:38Speaker 1: texted his friend like confirming that they would meet up
- 10:41Speaker 1: the next morning. And so there hadn't been any messages
- 10:45Speaker 1: after that. And Elaine also noted how Dylan usually went
- 10:48Speaker 1: to bed like eleven o'clock or later, so it was
- 10:50Speaker 1: kind of weird that there was no there were no
- 10:53Speaker 1: messages sent after that.
- 10:54Speaker 4: That's what I was going to say, Like, what thirteen
- 10:56Speaker 4: year old is going to bed at nine thirty like
- 10:57Speaker 4: he would still be sending his friends text checking at
- 11:00Speaker 4: social media till like midnight probably exactly.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, So his friend had texted him at six forty
- 11:06Speaker 1: six am on Monday morning, which was fifteen minutes after
- 11:09Speaker 1: they were supposed to meet up, asking where he was,
- 11:11Speaker 1: and Dylan never responded. So, like I said, all that
- 11:16Speaker 1: until Elaine was contacted was from Mark's account, so you know,
- 11:21Speaker 1: as far as that's his story, but as far as
- 11:24Speaker 1: physical proof, we know that Dylan was at least at
- 11:28Speaker 1: Walmart on on Sunday night from security footage. So we
- 11:32Speaker 1: there's security footage of him at the airport near Colorado
- 11:36Speaker 1: Springs when his mom dropped him off, and then there's
- 11:38Speaker 1: security footage of him at Walmart with his dad, so
- 11:42Speaker 1: we know that he landed and he met up with
- 11:45Speaker 1: his dad and went to Walmart. Okay, So investigators, you know,
- 11:49Speaker 1: of course, started looking into Mark's story, just trying to
- 11:52Speaker 1: like verify everything and figure out if they could find
- 11:55Speaker 1: where Dylan might have gone missing. And they started by
- 11:59Speaker 1: confirming the errands that he had run on Monday, and
- 12:02Speaker 1: they were able to confirm that they saw that he
- 12:05Speaker 1: went to the post office and to his divorce lawyer,
- 12:08Speaker 1: so they were able to confirm all of that. Mark's
- 12:10Speaker 1: first suspicions were that Dylan had left the cabin on
- 12:14Speaker 1: foot to either go to a local campground or a
- 12:17Speaker 1: friend's house and had like something had happened. But the
- 12:21Speaker 1: only issue with that was that his friend's house was
- 12:24Speaker 1: like nine miles away.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Oh it's a long way to walk.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Yeah, this is Colorado in November and a nine mile walk.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Yeah, like rough terrain, freezing coal probably.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so you know, that was a little suspicious to
- 12:40Speaker 1: like a lane, but you know, police could didn't really
- 12:44Speaker 1: have anything to go off of, so they started looking
- 12:47Speaker 1: at this as a runaway, especially because Dylan had clearly
- 12:50Speaker 1: not wanted to be there. They were like, you know,
- 12:53Speaker 1: maybe he was trying to get home and he got
- 12:55Speaker 1: hurt or got lost or something happened. Like you know,
- 12:58Speaker 1: they're they're kind of going that path. So Elaine, however,
- 13:04Speaker 1: despite what the police were saying, said that she knew
- 13:06Speaker 1: her ex husband and her son, and she claimed that
- 13:10Speaker 1: it was not like Dylan to run away like that,
- 13:13Speaker 1: and she also said that she did not believe a
- 13:15Speaker 1: single word of mark story. Interesting thankfully, though, police did
- 13:20Speaker 1: take this seriously, which like always happened. Yeah, So they
- 13:24Speaker 1: set up a search in the San Juan mountains that
- 13:26Speaker 1: were surrounding Mark's cabin, and just like for reference, this
- 13:31Speaker 1: area was pretty heavily wooded. There were canyons, a ton
- 13:35Speaker 1: of mountains that were like, you know, six thousand feet elevation.
- 13:39Speaker 1: You know, they're in Colorado, so they're up high. There's
- 13:41Speaker 1: dense forest. So they started to set up a search.
- 13:45Speaker 1: That was going to be difficult because of this terrain,
- 13:47Speaker 1: but they set it up. They used ATVs, they used
- 13:50Speaker 1: drones and K nine units to search as much of
- 13:53Speaker 1: the area as they could, and they really got going,
- 13:55Speaker 1: but unfortunately they did not find anything in that initial search.
- 14:00Speaker 1: As the holiday week went on, there were still no
- 14:02Speaker 1: signs of Dylan. They kept looking, but at this point
- 14:05Speaker 1: Elaine was pretty suspicious that Mark wasn't telling the full story.
- 14:10Speaker 1: And if you remember earlier, Mark had said that when
- 14:12Speaker 1: he returned home from running errands, Dylan wasn't in the
- 14:15Speaker 1: house and neither was his phone, backpack, or fishing pole.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Right.
- 14:20Speaker 1: He also said that the door had been left open
- 14:22Speaker 1: and the TV was left on to Nickelodeon, But Dylan
- 14:26Speaker 1: hadn't watched Nickelodeon in months, according to Elaine, because he
- 14:30Speaker 1: had recently become like hooked on MTV. So Elaine was
- 14:33Speaker 1: kind of like, all right, I like that's one thing
- 14:36Speaker 1: that's weird. And she was even saying like, Mark, you
- 14:38Speaker 1: didn't even know your son well enough to like make
- 14:40Speaker 1: up a story about him, yeah, which like I don't know,
- 14:44Speaker 1: you know what your kid's watching on TV.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I feel like, oh, yeah, absolutely.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And she also thought that it was weird that Dylan's
- 14:51Speaker 1: fishing pole was missing because she said that Dylan had
- 14:55Speaker 1: been fishing before, but he didn't really know a lot
- 14:57Speaker 1: about it, so she didn't think that he would go
- 14:59Speaker 1: by himself. But again, he could have been meeting up
- 15:01Speaker 1: with a friend, but none of his friends.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:07Speaker 1: At this point, Elaine couldn't really do much with her suspicions,
- 15:11Speaker 1: though the family did all that they could to spread awareness,
- 15:15Speaker 1: including setting up like a Facebook page. They set up
- 15:18Speaker 1: a fifty five thousand dollars reward for any information, and
- 15:22Speaker 1: they really utilized social media and it did help get
- 15:26Speaker 1: the message out there and bring a lot of attention
- 15:28Speaker 1: to this case. Thankfully, the family and everyone in the
- 15:31Speaker 1: community continued to hold out hope that Dylan would be
- 15:34Speaker 1: found alive. The community really came together and they were
- 15:38Speaker 1: holding out hope. The weekend after Thanksgiving, a canine unit
- 15:42Speaker 1: actually picked up Dylan sent at the Valacido Lake. So
- 15:46Speaker 1: they sent divers and they also sent boats with like
- 15:50Speaker 1: object detecting sonar to try to canvass the whole lake,
- 15:55Speaker 1: but unfortunately they still didn't find anything. Shortly after this,
- 15:59Speaker 1: Brandon red Wine, who was Dylan's half brother and Mark's
- 16:03Speaker 1: biological son, drove to Colorado with his family from Arizona
- 16:07Speaker 1: to help with the search. And Brandon also had a
- 16:11Speaker 1: pretty strained relationship with Mark, so I feel like he
- 16:14Speaker 1: kind of felt for Dylan and like felt that he
- 16:17Speaker 1: needed to help. And so, you know, everybody was there searching,
- 16:21Speaker 1: The community was searching. His name and photo were everywhere.
- 16:25Speaker 1: They were doing all that they could. During all of this,
- 16:27Speaker 1: Mark stuck with the same story and he did appear
- 16:31Speaker 1: distraught on news segments and to the public. He claimed
- 16:35Speaker 1: that he cooperated fully with the police, and they finally
- 16:38Speaker 1: did search his cabin. Inside they found a few drops
- 16:43Speaker 1: of Dylan's blood, but Mark's girlfriend explained that away as
- 16:47Speaker 1: coming from a cut that Dylan had gotten while visiting
- 16:49Speaker 1: the year before. So and again there just wasn't much
- 16:53Speaker 1: they could do about it. Because like Dylan had been
- 16:54Speaker 1: there before, so it's not like it would be the
- 16:56Speaker 1: weirdest thing.
- 16:57Speaker 2: And it was just a couple of drops. It wasn't
- 16:59Speaker 2: like a golln of his.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Blood or I don't even know, yeah exactly, you know
- 17:02Speaker 3: what I mean.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Yeah, investigators finally took Mark in for an interview, and
- 17:08Speaker 1: at the time they told him he wasn't a suspect,
- 17:10Speaker 1: but they just wanted to talk to him. He was
- 17:12Speaker 1: also polygraphed, and so was Elaine. And Elaine did pass
- 17:16Speaker 1: her polygraph test easily, but Mark failed his oh miserably. Sure, yeah,
- 17:22Speaker 1: and we don't know like what was asked or like
- 17:24Speaker 1: what actually you know he failed on Yeah, yeah, and
- 17:30Speaker 1: as we know, polygraph tests can't always be taken seriously.
- 17:34Speaker 1: But still it's a little suspicious that he failed so miserably.
- 17:38Speaker 4: They're pretty telling though, because I feel like in most
- 17:41Speaker 4: cases they're like okay, like we don't really take it
- 17:44Speaker 4: into like huge consideration, but when the person is guilty,
- 17:47Speaker 4: they almost always fail, and when the person is innocent,
- 17:50Speaker 4: they almost always passed.
- 17:51Speaker 1: So it's like, yeah, yeah, like how much can it
- 17:54Speaker 1: really not be true? But yeah, so the case unfortunately
- 17:57Speaker 1: went cold for a few months, but in February twenty thirteen,
- 18:01Speaker 1: a new search was happening. And I'm not sure like
- 18:04Speaker 1: what prompted this new search to begin, but it did,
- 18:08Speaker 1: and police brought in cadaver dogs and searched around like
- 18:12Speaker 1: all the areas around Mark's cabin, but again they found nothing.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Just nothing was coming up. Then the family went on
- 18:20Speaker 1: the Doctor Phil Show and oh.
- 18:22Speaker 2: My gosh, wow, Okay.
- 18:24Speaker 1: It is wild. You can watch it on YouTube. It's
- 18:27Speaker 1: almost like it's well, it's like over two hours long,
- 18:29Speaker 1: but there's some overlap of it. Okay, this might be
- 18:33Speaker 1: an unpopular opinion. I'm not sure, but I am not
- 18:36Speaker 1: a fan of Doctor Phil and like the Doctor Phil's show.
- 18:39Speaker 1: I just like I've never really watched his show, but
- 18:42Speaker 1: the ones that I do, he just frustrates me.
- 18:45Speaker 4: I feel like when he first came out, like he
- 18:48Speaker 4: really did like try to help people, and like the
- 18:52Speaker 4: show was taken seriously, but like after several years it
- 18:57Speaker 4: like became almost like a joke.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Yeah, like a typical like talk show.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Yeah, like it wasn't all.
- 19:07Speaker 2: He has a new show too, where he like goes
- 19:08Speaker 2: into people's homes.
- 19:09Speaker 4: I watched it the other night, and I was like
- 19:12Speaker 4: it was it was entertaining, but it was again it
- 19:14Speaker 4: was just like, are you doing this because you were
- 19:17Speaker 4: doing this for the money?
- 19:18Speaker 1: Right? Probably the latter. But yeah, So I did actually
- 19:22Speaker 1: watch the almost I watched almost all of it. I
- 19:26Speaker 1: didn't watch the exact the whole name, but I did watch.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Hold On because I'm gonna laugh because I just thought
- 19:32Speaker 4: of the TikTok where the doctor Phil.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Have you heard it?
- 19:37Speaker 1: No?
- 19:37Speaker 2: Or he's like it's like his voice, it's like a
- 19:40Speaker 2: voice bite or whatever, and it's like, shut the fuck up,
- 19:43Speaker 2: bitch or something like that. You've never heard that?
- 19:47Speaker 1: No, I don't think.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Oh my god, Okay, I'm listening.
- 19:49Speaker 3: To you later.
- 19:50Speaker 4: But it's like I think he was repeating something that's
- 19:53Speaker 4: like a kid had said to their mother and they
- 19:56Speaker 4: took it and made.
- 19:56Speaker 1: It into a TikTok and that's fun funny. So yeah,
- 20:00Speaker 1: I did watch this episode. I didn't watch the whole thing.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I couldn't. I had to stop, but I did watch it,
- 20:07Speaker 1: oh my god. And I'll link it in the show
- 20:10Speaker 1: notes if you do want to go watch it, but
- 20:11Speaker 1: I'm just going to recap it for you here so
- 20:13Speaker 1: you don't have to go through.
- 20:14Speaker 4: That was the whole family there, including the dad or
- 20:17Speaker 4: was it just the mom, the boyfriend, and the sibling.
- 20:20Speaker 1: The dad was there, Okay, Yes, it was mostly the
- 20:24Speaker 1: mom and the dad.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:26Speaker 1: So on the show, both Mark and Elaine continually accused
- 20:30Speaker 1: each other of having something to do with Dylan's disappearance.
- 20:34Speaker 1: You know, Elaine was explaining all the inconsistencies in Mark's
- 20:37Speaker 1: story and all of that, and then Mark kept like
- 20:41Speaker 1: trying to put it back on Elaine. Of course, Elaine
- 20:45Speaker 1: kept asking Mark what he did to Dylan, saying that
- 20:48Speaker 1: she knew that he knew something, but Mark continued to
- 20:51Speaker 1: stick with the same story that he was out running
- 20:55Speaker 1: Errand's and came back about the polygraph test that police
- 20:59Speaker 1: had given them. Mark claimed that police told him, quote,
- 21:02Speaker 1: there's been some conflict as to the results of my
- 21:07Speaker 1: polygraph test.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Mark's polygraph test.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Then he said that police told him that he failed it,
- 21:13Speaker 1: but then later said it was inconclusive. So he's like,
- 21:16Speaker 1: you know, saying all this shit. And so doctor Phil
- 21:19Speaker 1: being so generous, offered for Mark to do a polygraph
- 21:23Speaker 1: test on the show, and of course they do it
- 21:26Speaker 1: like offscreen because you can't record them. I guess like
- 21:29Speaker 1: for it to be like valid, but he was like,
- 21:31Speaker 1: you know, I have somebody who's done hundreds of these
- 21:35Speaker 1: and like you you know, will do it for you.
- 21:37Speaker 1: He was like, it'll help clear your name because clearly,
- 21:41Speaker 1: like people think you're guilty because you failed it, so
- 21:43Speaker 1: it'll help clear your name. Mark agreed to take the
- 21:46Speaker 1: polygraph test and he was like, okay, I'll do it,
- 21:48Speaker 1: but right before he was gonna actually take the test,
- 21:51Speaker 1: he backed out and refused to take it, and doctor
- 21:54Speaker 1: Phil was pissed. And that part was really funny because
- 21:58Speaker 1: he was like, if you're really innocent, why would you
- 22:01Speaker 1: not take it? Yeah, like yelling at him. It was
- 22:04Speaker 1: so funny, and it's true, like if you're innocent, why
- 22:07Speaker 1: would you not take it? But as I was thinking
- 22:10Speaker 1: about this, I was like to play Devil's advocate because
- 22:13Speaker 1: I have to. You're on live TV. You're probably nervous,
- 22:17Speaker 1: and nerves can like really strongly affect polygraphes, which is why, like,
- 22:21Speaker 1: you know, you, they can't be like in court and stuff.
- 22:24Speaker 1: So I get why he was nervous, but come on, like,
- 22:27Speaker 1: don't agree to it in the first place and back out?
- 22:30Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 22:31Speaker 1: So that was like most of the show was then
- 22:33Speaker 1: yelling at each other, and then Corey, Dylan's older brother,
- 22:37Speaker 1: came on. He talked about how horrible of a father
- 22:41Speaker 1: Mark was, and he actually didn't call him dad anymore.
- 22:45Speaker 1: He called him Mark. He said, then he was dead
- 22:48Speaker 1: to him.
- 22:49Speaker 2: That's telling.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Yeah. He also talked about how Mark was never involved
- 22:53Speaker 1: in any of the fundraising or like search efforts to
- 22:55Speaker 1: help find Dylan. You know, I think he was involved
- 22:58Speaker 1: in some of it publicly, but like from Corey's perspective,
- 23:02Speaker 1: he was not involved like you would be if your
- 23:04Speaker 1: son was missing, like.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Doing just enough to like make people not be suspicious, exactly.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:12Speaker 1: And then on the show, Mark just continued to defend
- 23:16Speaker 1: himself and Corey literally said straight out that he thought
- 23:21Speaker 1: Mark killed his brother. Like he was like you here,
- 23:23Speaker 1: like so he straight up was like and again, remember
- 23:28Speaker 1: there's never been anything found, so right, there's no.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Evident of He's not even really a suspect. He's just
- 23:35Speaker 2: correct the dad.
- 23:36Speaker 1: He's not a person of interest, right.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:40Speaker 1: So yeah, that's about all that came from the show.
- 23:43Speaker 1: You know, nothing like came of it in terms of
- 23:47Speaker 1: the case, but it did help get more national attention. Unfortunately,
- 23:51Speaker 1: by this time, it was the dead of winter in Colorado,
- 23:54Speaker 1: so police couldn't really like search a lot of the
- 23:57Speaker 1: areas that they'd want to. I mean, even the initial search,
- 24:00Speaker 1: they couldn't search everywhere because of the terrain and then
- 24:03Speaker 1: the weather. So they did start planning a massive search
- 24:07Speaker 1: that they would do once the snow and ice had
- 24:09Speaker 1: melted in June. So they were planning a big search
- 24:14Speaker 1: for June twenty thirteen. They were like ready that once
- 24:17Speaker 1: all the once everything was melted, they were going to
- 24:19Speaker 1: go all out. Okay, so this was a five day
- 24:23Speaker 1: search and it was going to cover twelve miles of
- 24:25Speaker 1: an unpaved part of Middle Mountain Road, which was a
- 24:29Speaker 1: road that was parallel to Mark Street.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Okay.
- 24:33Speaker 1: There were forty five officers that began this search, and
- 24:37Speaker 1: on June twenty fifth, twenty thirteen, they found something. That night,
- 24:43Speaker 1: the La Plata County Sheriff's Office announced that they had
- 24:47Speaker 1: evidence related to Dylan Redwine's case. They didn't say what,
- 24:50Speaker 1: they just sad evidence. And then the next day they
- 24:53Speaker 1: did continue the search as was planned, Like they planned
- 24:57Speaker 1: a five day search. So they clearly didn't find a
- 25:00Speaker 1: everything they wanted to find. But two days later, on
- 25:03Speaker 1: June twenty seventh, twenty thirteen, police confirmed to Dylan's family
- 25:07Speaker 1: that they had found part parts of his remains.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Oh my god, I knew you were gonna say that.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yeah, this was about eight miles away from Mark's house,
- 25:17Speaker 1: and it was in a remote, difficult to access area.
- 25:21Speaker 1: They had found the partial remains of Dylan RedWine.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Eight miles from his house.
- 25:25Speaker 4: M m.
- 25:26Speaker 1: It should be noted that they never found any of
- 25:29Speaker 1: Dylan's other belongings, So they found these remains, but they
- 25:32Speaker 1: didn't find his fish in his backpack poll exactly. The
- 25:37Speaker 1: medical examiner said that from what they found, they could
- 25:40Speaker 1: not determine Dylan's cause of death, and this did not
- 25:45Speaker 1: include his skull, so they they hadn't found his skull.
- 25:49Speaker 1: I know for sure, that's like one of the things
- 25:50Speaker 1: they didn't find. But from what they had they could
- 25:53Speaker 1: determine it was Dylan, but they could not determine his
- 25:56Speaker 1: cause of death. So of course, Dylan's family and the
- 25:59Speaker 1: entire higher community was just devastated. At this point, Elaine
- 26:03Speaker 1: and Corey still fully believed that Mark was somehow involved
- 26:07Speaker 1: in Dylan's death, but Mark told the media that he
- 26:10Speaker 1: was blindsided by the discovery of his son's body, saying, quote,
- 26:15Speaker 1: I cannot wrap my head around it. You can never
- 26:17Speaker 1: be prepared for something like this. I'm reaching out to
- 26:20Speaker 1: his mom so he can have a proper burial, making
- 26:23Speaker 1: sure he gets a proper burial, and the respect he
- 26:25Speaker 1: deserves is what I have to focus on. That was
- 26:28Speaker 1: like his you know what he said. And according to
- 26:31Speaker 1: the Denver Post, Mark RedWine said that after the announcement
- 26:35Speaker 1: of the remains, his ex wife was driving on a
- 26:38Speaker 1: street in Durango when she spotted him, rolled down her
- 26:41Speaker 1: window and shouted murder. And that's again just what Mark claims.
- 26:46Speaker 1: But it's clear that Elaine thought that Mark had killed n.
- 26:51Speaker 4: I mean, she had the gut feeling from the gate
- 26:54Speaker 4: and I think that, yeah, that's not something you lightly
- 26:57Speaker 4: accuse someone of, especially someone's you know, yeah exactly, unless
- 27:03Speaker 4: you really think.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:05Speaker 1: There was not a lot that police could do at
- 27:07Speaker 1: this point. There was no cause of death that they
- 27:10Speaker 1: could determine, and there was no evidence of foul play.
- 27:13Speaker 1: There was no other evidence that they found, like, there
- 27:16Speaker 1: was nothing they could do. But Elaine was determined to
- 27:20Speaker 1: get justice for her son. Good for her She finally
- 27:23Speaker 1: like came forward and straight up told the media Mark,
- 27:27Speaker 1: I think that Mark was responsible for Dylan's death. And
- 27:30Speaker 1: then she also talked about how she had seen Mark
- 27:33Speaker 1: be violent with the kids while they were married, So
- 27:36Speaker 1: she was making it clear that it was not out
- 27:39Speaker 1: of the realm of possibilities that Mark could have hurt Dylan.
- 27:43Speaker 4: Wow.
- 27:44Speaker 1: In twenty fourteen, Elaine was still pushing that Mark had
- 27:47Speaker 1: something to do with Dylan's death, and the police were
- 27:50Speaker 1: trying to continue to investigate. Elaine at one point was
- 27:53Speaker 1: actually granted a temporary restraining order against Mark, and then
- 27:56Speaker 1: in August twenty fourteen, police returned to Mark's home to
- 28:00Speaker 1: do another search and they officially identified him as a
- 28:03Speaker 1: person of interest at this point, So again, a person
- 28:06Speaker 1: of interest is not a suspect. It's not somebody you
- 28:09Speaker 1: think did it. It's somebody you think knows something about it.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 28:13Speaker 1: They also at this point fully cleared Elaine, her now
- 28:17Speaker 1: husband Mike, and Corey of any involvement, so they said
- 28:22Speaker 1: they had nothing to do with it, but there just
- 28:23Speaker 1: wasn't much more they could go off of at this point.
- 28:27Speaker 1: On November one, twenty fifteen, almost two years after Dylan disappeared.
- 28:32Speaker 1: A hiker discovered Dylan's skull off a path on Middle
- 28:36Speaker 1: Mountain Road, so this was about a mile and a
- 28:38Speaker 1: half away from where the other remains were found over
- 28:41Speaker 1: a year earlier. The medical examiner did an autopsy on
- 28:45Speaker 1: Dylan's skull and finally found something that they could use
- 28:49Speaker 1: to prove Dylan's death was not an accident. He found
- 28:53Speaker 1: a fracture above Dylan's left eye and then also found
- 28:56Speaker 1: evidence of blunt force trauma to the head. So this
- 29:00Speaker 1: rooved that Dylan's death was not caused by an animal,
- 29:03Speaker 1: and his cause of death was officially changed to homicide.
- 29:08Speaker 1: This finally started to break apart Mark's story. He had
- 29:13Speaker 1: continued to claim that Dylan ran away and had fallen
- 29:16Speaker 1: or been hurt by an animal, but this, you know,
- 29:19Speaker 1: turned it around.
- 29:20Speaker 4: Do you know if they were able to determine that,
- 29:23Speaker 4: I'm assuming he was partially dismembered, Like, were they able
- 29:28Speaker 4: to determine like what was used.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Or I don't If they were, they didn't announce it.
- 29:33Speaker 4: I don't think so, because that would rule out an
- 29:37Speaker 4: animal or.
- 29:37Speaker 3: You know whatever.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know if they could tell, like with
- 29:40Speaker 1: the bones, I mean, maybe the animal would chew on
- 29:44Speaker 1: the bones, but without like you know, having flesh and stuff.
- 29:46Speaker 1: I feel like it'd be difficult.
- 29:47Speaker 2: To Yeah, there would be teeth marks, I would think
- 29:51Speaker 2: on the animals.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Right, you're probably right, I mean, so yeah, I don't
- 29:55Speaker 1: know if they like ever tested that, but they never
- 29:57Speaker 1: talked about Okay, okay, So now, well at this point,
- 30:02Speaker 1: Mark said, oh, well, maybe he wasn't, you know, gone
- 30:06Speaker 1: walking off and got hurt by an animal. Maybe he
- 30:09Speaker 1: was kidnapped and murdered, and that someone had planted the
- 30:12Speaker 1: remains near Mark's house to frame him.
- 30:15Speaker 4: Yeah, because they would just know that he lived there,
- 30:17Speaker 4: I mean, if it was a random act, right.
- 30:20Speaker 1: An FBI profiler who had been brought onto the case,
- 30:24Speaker 1: who was named Pete Killsmet, he said that this new
- 30:28Speaker 1: story from Mark quote has a mathematical likelihood of close
- 30:32Speaker 1: to zero. So based on his profile analysis, kills Met
- 30:37Speaker 1: came to the conclusion that Mark had killed Dylan. So
- 30:40Speaker 1: this was just like this one FBI profiler. But they're
- 30:43Speaker 1: pretty damn good.
- 30:44Speaker 2: So that's their job. Yeah, they do this for a living.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Yeah, So jumping forward to about a year and a
- 30:50Speaker 1: half later, in July twenty seventeen, Mark RedWine was finally
- 30:54Speaker 1: arrested for the murder of his son, Dylan. He was
- 30:58Speaker 1: arrested in Bellingham, Washington, where he was currently on a
- 31:02Speaker 1: truck route. He was still a truck driver. The warrant
- 31:05Speaker 1: had been put out in Colorado for Mark on second
- 31:08Speaker 1: degree murder, and so he was arrested in Washington and
- 31:12Speaker 1: extradited to Colorado, and on August fifteenth, twenty seventeen, he
- 31:17Speaker 1: was officially charged with second second degree murder and child
- 31:20Speaker 1: abuse resulting in death. Mark pled not guilty on all counts.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Wow, he's got a hold up that I didn't do it.
- 31:29Speaker 4: It wasn't me, which I mean, they don't have much
- 31:33Speaker 4: on him, if anything, really, I mean, they don't have
- 31:36Speaker 4: anything on him. They don't besides, you know, word of
- 31:40Speaker 4: mouth and tellings of stories and things.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:43Speaker 1: So it took a very very very long time for
- 31:45Speaker 1: this case to actually go to court. It was rescheduled
- 31:49Speaker 1: a whopping ten times, one of those times being because
- 31:54Speaker 1: Mark's attorney was arrested for domestic violence.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 31:59Speaker 1: So it was finally recent scheduled for September of twenty twenty,
- 32:03Speaker 1: but because of the COVID nineteen pandemic. The trial was
- 32:06Speaker 1: once again pushed back to twenty twenty one. Okay, when
- 32:09Speaker 1: the case finally went to trial in twenty twenty one,
- 32:12Speaker 1: we learned some more of the evidence that they had
- 32:15Speaker 1: that proved that Mark had killed Dylan. So the prosecutor
- 32:18Speaker 1: said that Mark had killed Dylan in his living room
- 32:21Speaker 1: with a knife, knife or other object. And then they
- 32:25Speaker 1: said that they decapit, that Mark decapitated him before distributing
- 32:29Speaker 1: his remains throughout the area surrounding his house.
- 32:32Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Now they had found trace amounts of blood all around
- 32:37Speaker 1: the living room of Mark's cabin, so not just a
- 32:41Speaker 1: couple drops. They found it under the rug, they found
- 32:43Speaker 1: it on the couch, They found it on a love seat,
- 32:46Speaker 1: and the blood on the love seat was confirmed to
- 32:51Speaker 1: be Dylan's. So at least some of that blood was
- 32:54Speaker 1: confirmed to be Dylan's. And it wasn't just like a
- 32:56Speaker 1: drop from a cut.
- 32:57Speaker 4: Okay, that makes more sense. They were just keep that
- 33:00Speaker 4: close to the chest, I guess.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Kadaverdogs also picked up the scent of human remains
- 33:05Speaker 1: in Mark's truck, his living room, and on his clothes.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Wow, okay, yeah, there's their evidence.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:13Speaker 1: And then it gets even better. They were able to
- 33:16Speaker 1: prove a motive, and this is where it gets a
- 33:18Speaker 1: little more disturbing. So just a warning, it's gonna get
- 33:21Speaker 1: a little gross. Okay, not that it wasn't already, but
- 33:24Speaker 1: you know. Corey during his testimony, said that in twenty eleven,
- 33:28Speaker 1: the boys had been on a camping trip with Mark
- 33:30Speaker 1: and during that trip they were like playing around on
- 33:33Speaker 1: Mark's computer playing games, and on the laptop they discovered
- 33:38Speaker 1: some very disturbing photos. These included one of Mark in
- 33:43Speaker 1: red lipstick and a red bra and another one of
- 33:46Speaker 1: him eating human feces out of a baby diaper.
- 33:51Speaker 4: I mean the first part like do you like if
- 33:55Speaker 4: you're like, do you but poo poos no, poo, any
- 34:03Speaker 4: kind of bodily functioned like no, no.
- 34:05Speaker 1: No, yeah, and like he doesn't have a baby, so
- 34:09Speaker 1: we couldn't have said, like I'm just it's.
- 34:11Speaker 3: A fetish thing.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's disgusting. So someone took these pictures or
- 34:15Speaker 2: I guess he could have set up a care or.
- 34:17Speaker 1: He might have taken them. Yeah. This so the boys
- 34:20Speaker 1: were obviously disgusted by this, and they like took pictures
- 34:24Speaker 1: of the photos on the laptop just to like, you know,
- 34:27Speaker 1: I mean, why wouldn't you like to be like, oh
- 34:29Speaker 1: my god, look what I just found. But they didn't
- 34:31Speaker 1: say anything to Mark or anything, and Corey later confronted
- 34:36Speaker 1: his father about the photos in early twenty twelve, and
- 34:39Speaker 1: when he did, Mark got extremely angry and upset and
- 34:42Speaker 1: reacted violently, according to Corey. So the prosecution took this
- 34:46Speaker 1: and laid out a motive. They said that Dylan likely
- 34:50Speaker 1: finally confronted Mark about these photos, and I'm I could
- 34:53Speaker 1: even see it, being like him being annoyed that he
- 34:56Speaker 1: was there and frustrated, and then Mark saying something and
- 34:58Speaker 1: him being like, well, at least I don't like blah
- 35:00Speaker 1: blah blah and talking about the photos or being there.
- 35:02Speaker 1: H well I saw those photos like something like that.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I don't know. That's just my opinion. But they said
- 35:07Speaker 1: that their suspicions were that Dylan confronted him and on
- 35:13Speaker 1: the night of November eighteenth, twenty twelve, and that made
- 35:16Speaker 1: Mark go into a fit of rage, as Corey had
- 35:19Speaker 1: seen him do before. They say that this then resulted
- 35:22Speaker 1: in Dylan's death, and that Mark had been lying ever since,
- 35:26Speaker 1: so they finally had more than just like evidence there
- 35:29Speaker 1: was like this could be a motive.
- 35:30Speaker 4: That's first of all, if you're gonna let your kids
- 35:33Speaker 4: play on your computer, don't have things like that if
- 35:36Speaker 4: you don't want them to find them, and don't get
- 35:39Speaker 4: mad when they call you out for it, because like
- 35:42Speaker 4: you should be in Pooh.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. Mark of course denied all of this to
- 35:48Speaker 1: his lawyers. He did not take the stand, but he
- 35:50Speaker 1: even went as far to say that the person in
- 35:52Speaker 1: the photos was not him. He claimed that Elaine had
- 35:57Speaker 1: photoshopped him into the photos. Okay, I don't think anybody
- 36:00Speaker 1: believed this. Did they still have the photos or was
- 36:03Speaker 1: there no comment about I don't know if they had
- 36:05Speaker 1: the actual photos. I have seen the photos of the
- 36:08Speaker 1: photos like that the boys too, Like those weren't the
- 36:11Speaker 1: best quality. So like you maybe could say it was
- 36:15Speaker 1: that you couldn't tell if it was photoshopped, but I
- 36:18Speaker 1: don't think anybody believed it was photoshoped. Gonna look it up, Okay, yeah,
- 36:23Speaker 1: I I'll maybe post. No, I probably won't post them.
- 36:26Speaker 1: I don't think anybody wants.
- 36:28Speaker 3: To see that.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Oh I put Mark red and it said poutin picks.
- 36:34Speaker 2: That's the first thing that bomped up war.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Because it came out like just a couple months ago.
- 36:39Speaker 4: This is warning graphic content. Okay, it's so nest, it's
- 36:45Speaker 4: up close, it's all closed.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Oh my god.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Okay, you have a child. Could you imagine taking his
- 36:51Speaker 1: diaper and putting it up? No, I put it and
- 36:54Speaker 1: taking a photo.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Oh, he doesn't wear diapers anymore.
- 36:56Speaker 1: But when he.
- 36:56Speaker 4: Did, I was like, get those of far away, because
- 37:00Speaker 4: I have like, I'm a very gaggy person, like when
- 37:04Speaker 4: it comes to smells just instantly, and I would gag
- 37:07Speaker 4: all the time changing his diaper. So no, I cannot imagine.
- 37:11Speaker 4: That's why I said nothing with any kind of bodily
- 37:14Speaker 4: functions like that.
- 37:15Speaker 3: No, yeah, yeah, so yeah.
- 37:18Speaker 1: The prosecution also had Mark's first wife, Betsy come up
- 37:22Speaker 1: and testify, and she just had some interesting things to say.
- 37:24Speaker 1: But again it was all like circumstantial and just like stories.
- 37:28Speaker 1: But one of the things she talked about was that
- 37:31Speaker 1: they had a very violent and terrible marriage and said
- 37:34Speaker 1: that when they got divorced, Mark had threatened to kill
- 37:37Speaker 1: the two kids. What so his older boys, Yeah, his
- 37:41Speaker 1: older boys.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:43Speaker 1: She also told about a time that she and Mark
- 37:46Speaker 1: had been camping in the mountains and he made a
- 37:48Speaker 1: very cryptic comment saying that if he had to dispose
- 37:52Speaker 1: of a body, he would do it in the mountains.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Wow.
- 37:56Speaker 1: According to Betsy, Mark said quote, nobody would ever find
- 37:59Speaker 1: a body in the mountains.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Well they did, so you're not as smart as you
- 38:03Speaker 2: fucking think you are.
- 38:04Speaker 4: You horrible person to kill your own child and dispose
- 38:08Speaker 4: of their body, like I said in my case, that like,
- 38:11Speaker 4: to do that to your own child, your own flesh
- 38:14Speaker 4: and blood, is the definition of inhuman.
- 38:18Speaker 1: It is, it really is so.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Uh.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Brandon, who was Betsying Mark's son, the one who had
- 38:23Speaker 1: come to help search from Arizona, also took the stand
- 38:27Speaker 1: and talked about how he had confronted Mark about not
- 38:30Speaker 1: being involved in the search for Dylan, and he said
- 38:32Speaker 1: that Mark had no desire to help with the search
- 38:35Speaker 1: and never really appeared upset at least to like the family,
- 38:38Speaker 1: you know, on to the media, he did, but never
- 38:42Speaker 1: like really appeared upset, especially early on when they thought
- 38:45Speaker 1: that Dylan was like just a lot, was still alive
- 38:48Speaker 1: and was just missing. He said, Mark like wasn't trying
- 38:51Speaker 1: to search because that's when it was like really necessary,
- 38:53Speaker 1: you know.
- 38:54Speaker 5: So.
- 38:55Speaker 1: But of course, the defense claimed that most of the
- 38:57Speaker 1: evidence was circumstantial, arguing that the blood found was extremely
- 39:01Speaker 1: minimal minimal, and that the cadaver dog evidence was quote
- 39:05Speaker 1: junk science, so of course, you know, if they had
- 39:07Speaker 1: to do something. They also claimed that the marks found
- 39:10Speaker 1: on Dylan's skull could have been from a mountain lion
- 39:13Speaker 1: or bear. They tried to get a lot of the
- 39:16Speaker 1: testimony thrown out, which to me just says that they
- 39:18Speaker 1: don't really have anything else to defend him, so they're
- 39:20Speaker 1: trying to like devalue the prosecution's arguments and defense. The
- 39:26Speaker 1: defense held to the story that Dylan had run away
- 39:28Speaker 1: and been attacked by some sort of wild animal. On
- 39:32Speaker 1: July sixteenth, twenty twenty one, so about two months ago.
- 39:35Speaker 1: The jury deliberated for six and a half hours and
- 39:38Speaker 1: they reached a unanimous verdict which I will play here
- 39:42Speaker 1: from the zoom recording of the trial.
- 39:45Speaker 5: Jury rid account number one murder in the second degree.
- 39:49Speaker 5: We the jury find the defendant Mark right Awayang guilty
- 39:53Speaker 5: account number one, be quiet please, murder in the second degree.
- 39:59Speaker 5: I think I missed the part jury verdict out number two,
- 40:03Speaker 5: child abuse. We the jury find the defendant Mark red
- 40:07Speaker 5: Wine guilty account to child abuse, signed by Colin Parker. Further,
- 40:14Speaker 5: we the jury findet with respect to the Verdi question
- 40:16Speaker 5: as the discount as follows, did the child abuse result
- 40:20Speaker 5: in death? The answer is yes.
- 40:24Speaker 1: So they found Mark red Wine guilty on all counts.
- 40:28Speaker 3: He was guilty.
- 40:30Speaker 4: His blood was in a large significant amount of blood
- 40:37Speaker 4: was in his house like that alone.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Period.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Yeah, his story doesn't add up. There's a motive, there's.
- 40:46Speaker 4: No throw the book at him, yeah, all of him.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Sorry Andrews trying to throw a book, like twelve of them.
- 40:53Speaker 1: So there are still people who believe Mark is innocent,
- 40:56Speaker 1: but I think the majority of people do believe he's guilty.
- 41:00Speaker 1: He still maintains his innocence and he has never admitted
- 41:03Speaker 1: to anything or told the actual you know, what actually
- 41:06Speaker 1: happened that night. He's stuck to the same story. So
- 41:10Speaker 1: his sentencing will happen on October eighth, twenty twenty one,
- 41:13Speaker 1: and he is currently facing forty eight years in prison,
- 41:16Speaker 1: which I was like, forty eight that's it, But I
- 41:19Speaker 1: think that's life for him.
- 41:20Speaker 4: But yeah, well, maybe how old is he now? He's
- 41:24Speaker 4: probably fifty probably, Yeah, I don't know. His son was
- 41:28Speaker 4: thirteen when he went missing. And that was in six years. Yeah,
- 41:33Speaker 4: how many years is that?
- 41:34Speaker 1: Nine? Nine years before this?
- 41:36Speaker 2: So forty eight it's not enough.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Yeah, so I will definitely update on our Instagram and
- 41:41Speaker 1: Twitter like once he's sentenced, because I'm very curious. You know,
- 41:45Speaker 1: some people are worried that he's not going to get
- 41:47Speaker 1: the full forty eight years because that's like the maximum
- 41:50Speaker 1: he's facing. So it's gonna be interesting to see he
- 41:53Speaker 1: was it was second deary murder, so it's less than
- 41:57Speaker 1: first degree, but still you killed somebody, so like, come.
- 42:00Speaker 2: On, I don't understand.
- 42:01Speaker 4: I mean, I understand like the meanings behind those, but
- 42:04Speaker 4: I don't understand how they can.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Conclude that that.
- 42:07Speaker 4: I mean, I guess it wasn't premeditatd maybe, but yeah,
- 42:11Speaker 4: even still.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Like they couldn't prove any type of premeditation, so I
- 42:15Speaker 1: guess that's why they had to stick with second degree.
- 42:18Speaker 1: But yeah, that is the case of Dylan red Wine.
- 42:22Speaker 1: So freaking sad. But thank god Mark is finally in
- 42:28Speaker 1: jail and was found guilty. Yes, finally the family can
- 42:33Speaker 1: get some justice.
- 42:35Speaker 2: And all those forty eight years better stick.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Yes, I know, I'm like very nervous. I will definitely
- 42:40Speaker 1: be watching it unfold, and I will keep you guys
- 42:45Speaker 1: updated for sure, because my god, he.
- 42:48Speaker 4: Needs to pay for what he did. Yes, you're a
- 42:51Speaker 4: grown man, like, you're an adult. Like if you can't
- 42:54Speaker 4: handle a child, if that's the motive coming at you
- 42:57Speaker 4: with incriminating stuff like, right, you're apathetic?
- 43:02Speaker 1: Yeah your coward? Yeah, so yeah, that is the case.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Updates will be on Instagram and Twitter that are both
- 43:11Speaker 1: in Human Underscore podcast, so you can follow us over
- 43:14Speaker 1: there so you don't miss them. And that's all I
- 43:17Speaker 1: got you, guys. I hope you guys enjoyed. I guess
- 43:22Speaker 1: it's kind of weird to say that, but I hope
- 43:23Speaker 1: you found it informational and that you are just as
- 43:26Speaker 1: happy as we are that he has been arrested and
- 43:29Speaker 1: found guilty. So yeah, thank you guys for listening. We
- 43:33Speaker 1: will see you on Thursday, and until then, keep it human.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Bye
