- 0:57Speaker 3: cav Podcast. Man, we have got a legend, my first
- 1:01Speaker 3: favorite rapper of all time, Too Short.
- 1:05Speaker 1: It's in the motherfucking building. What's up, God, how you doing,
- 1:08Speaker 1: brother running Man? Just living living legendary for sure. Yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Look, man, uh, you know you're one of them guys,
- 1:15Speaker 3: man who just meant so much to my life and
- 1:17Speaker 3: like my childhood. And you know, I remember the first
- 1:20Speaker 3: time I heard cuss words and you were like the
- 1:23Speaker 3: only rapper my dad fucked us.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I hear this so much. Yeah, my dad was like
- 1:28Speaker 1: an old white dude. He fucking loved Too Short.
- 1:30Speaker 2: But you know, I just think it's it's the ship
- 1:32Speaker 2: talking man, It's it's the comedy. It's like the it's
- 1:35Speaker 2: at the time it was. It was in this little
- 1:39Speaker 2: space where nobody was even doing it, like quite like
- 1:42Speaker 2: I was.
- 1:43Speaker 1: So I had a little, a little laying to myself
- 1:45Speaker 1: for quite a while.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I think obviously, uh, there's a shot to the
- 1:49Speaker 3: new movie that drop over our boy Simba plays you. Yeah,
- 1:52Speaker 3: did he have to tap in with you? I mean
- 1:54Speaker 3: he has to know your mannerisms. But obviously, like he
- 1:56Speaker 3: killed it. He looked just like you too, Like it
- 1:58Speaker 3: looks kind of crazy.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I just named it couple of music videos. He called
- 2:01Speaker 2: me said, I just want to get a little insight.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I just named him. I said, watch these two videos
- 2:07Speaker 2: and then called mister Fab and whatever he tells you
- 2:09Speaker 2: that she gets you there because Fab is a good mimicer.
- 2:12Speaker 2: He kind of knows his good his story, and he
- 2:15Speaker 2: can do people's style, rap, he can do your voice,
- 2:18Speaker 2: he can do everything. I saw some footage of Fab
- 2:21Speaker 2: when he was young and he was mimicking me, So
- 2:23Speaker 2: I'm like, he'd be a.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Good reference for you. Yeah, Like, I can't tell you
- 2:27Speaker 1: he's got the tics. Yeah, I can tell you how
- 2:28Speaker 1: to impersonate me. Just watch.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Yeah, you were watching your whole life. It's crazy, yo.
- 2:35Speaker 3: You uh so someone kind of broke it down. Some
- 2:38Speaker 3: shit you're working on. You and Little John got a
- 2:40Speaker 3: whole album coming.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:42Speaker 3: So for people who are not aware, I kind of
- 2:46Speaker 3: give you a lot of credit to obviously the Bay Area,
- 2:51Speaker 3: but there was this Atlanta era that you were very
- 2:54Speaker 3: instrumental in bringing to the forefront of like commercial music,
- 2:58Speaker 3: and and Little John on the East Side boys. Remember
- 3:00Speaker 3: that first song I ever heard you on with them,
- 3:02Speaker 3: It's my Shit let my Nuts Go.
- 3:06Speaker 1: That's super underground by the way, too.
- 3:08Speaker 3: But it was, Oh my god, that song is a classic,
- 3:11Speaker 3: and that was the first, like the end of it
- 3:13Speaker 3: when Little John's like.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I heard you all on my nuts like a trick.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I heard you was at jail house, bitch.
- 3:20Speaker 3: But you had like a lot to do with the
- 3:24Speaker 3: crunk era kind of being pushed through on the mainstream
- 3:28Speaker 3: front in terms of like you were like one of
- 3:29Speaker 3: the first artists outside of the South that embraced that.
- 3:34Speaker 3: I mean, obviously, you know you worked with three six
- 3:36Speaker 3: month you back in the day two and all that,
- 3:37Speaker 3: But what was that cause what what year did you
- 3:40Speaker 3: end up moving to Atlanta ninety three?
- 3:43Speaker 1: Crazy ninety three.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't a lot. It wasn't a lot of
- 3:46Speaker 2: music going on out there. The Face Records was there
- 3:49Speaker 2: out Cast, I mean Outcast was a year after I
- 3:52Speaker 2: moved there, but it was when I first got there,
- 3:54Speaker 2: it was like TLC and Tony Braxton. The Face was
- 3:57Speaker 2: like in a real R and B space. They hadn't
- 4:00Speaker 2: yet done Outcash yet, and there was some things moving around.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Jermaine Dupree was was active, but he definitely he was
- 4:07Speaker 2: just doing criss cross and it was you know, it
- 4:09Speaker 2: was it was. It was a good time to be
- 4:12Speaker 2: in Atlanta because big things were about to happen.
- 4:14Speaker 1: But my.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Whole thing is a lot of people don't know my
- 4:18Speaker 2: connection with New Orleans. My mother's from New Orleans, and
- 4:21Speaker 2: I spent a lot of my childhood in New Orleans.
- 4:24Speaker 2: So that's a very different sound than anywhere else, with
- 4:27Speaker 2: the jazz and the second line dancing and just you know,
- 4:30Speaker 2: my cousins were in marching bands and they were just
- 4:33Speaker 2: into whatever, you know, the hot dance whatever, And I
- 4:36Speaker 2: just kind of always had that New Orleans culture embedded
- 4:39Speaker 2: in me.
- 4:40Speaker 1: But I'm growing up in LA moved to the Bay.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I'm getting all these different flavors, and no one really
- 4:46Speaker 2: knows this unless you really know.
- 4:48Speaker 1: The two short history.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I actually lived in Atlanta for about a year when
- 4:51Speaker 2: I was a kid, a little over a year.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Wow.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I was in the seventh grade, part of the seventh
- 4:55Speaker 2: grade and part of the eighth grade. We moved there,
- 4:58Speaker 2: and I guess my mother wasn't feeling the vibe and
- 5:00Speaker 2: we moved.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Back to California.
- 5:02Speaker 2: And you know, I just have all these things musically
- 5:07Speaker 2: in me from a kid. So when I get to Atlanta,
- 5:10Speaker 2: and I moved to Atlanta, I immediately I'm already on
- 5:14Speaker 2: you know, probably my fourth platinum album. So I'm showing
- 5:18Speaker 2: up to Atlanta and I'm on like some Michael Jackson status,
- 5:22Speaker 2: you know.
- 5:23Speaker 1: And they were one of the biggest rappers in the world. Yeah,
- 5:25Speaker 1: they're just like loving too Short.
- 5:26Speaker 2: So I'm I'm looking at Bobby Brown out there having fun.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I'm bumping into Tupac. I'm like, oh shit, I'm about
- 5:32Speaker 2: to have me some fun out here in Atlanta and
- 5:34Speaker 2: had a lot of fun. But at the same time,
- 5:38Speaker 2: the music scene was accelerating. It was I mean, it
- 5:40Speaker 2: was just you know, the Tis and the outcasts were
- 5:43Speaker 2: just coming, you know, left and right, just new artists,
- 5:45Speaker 2: and Atlanta was getting hot.
- 5:47Speaker 1: So the reason why I'm embedded in the.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Crunk culture is because I was a fan of Little
- 5:55Speaker 2: John as a DJ. He was also the pretty popular
- 5:59Speaker 2: DJ before or anybody knew him in the world in Atlanta,
- 6:04Speaker 2: and he was also producing records for So So Deaf.
- 6:08Speaker 2: He produced some big records.
- 6:09Speaker 1: He was in the scene. But I was a real
- 6:12Speaker 1: big fan.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Of the way he would dj because he DJed different
- 6:15Speaker 2: than other DJs. His whole set was all about the crowd.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You know.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Mike just he was like doing it like a rapper,
- 6:22Speaker 2: like he was rocking the crowd, but he was playing
- 6:24Speaker 2: songs and his parties would just go up, and I
- 6:27Speaker 2: was like, I like this dude.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Then he put out he put out a record.
- 6:30Speaker 2: He put out a record called who You w Yep,
- 6:33Speaker 2: and nobody was rapping on there. It was a bunch
- 6:35Speaker 2: of chants. So I just I had not really had
- 6:39Speaker 2: a relationship.
- 6:40Speaker 1: With him at all.
- 6:40Speaker 2: We hadn't talked or we probably said what's up, and
- 6:44Speaker 2: I just went to one day. I said, man, you
- 6:45Speaker 2: should have let me do the remix on that song
- 6:48Speaker 2: and put.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Some raps on there.
- 6:49Speaker 2: And he was like, nah, we should just do some
- 6:51Speaker 2: new shit. And I'm like, all right, we'll come out
- 6:53Speaker 2: of the studio. And he came by when I wasn't there,
- 6:57Speaker 2: and he just left this song. It had vocals on it.
- 7:00Speaker 2: It was the song was called Couldn't be a Better Player?
- 7:02Speaker 1: That's what I named it. But he was just uh
- 7:06Speaker 1: doing those chants. He always did those chants, and he
- 7:11Speaker 1: he left that record. I rapped on it.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I wrapped three four verses and we shot a video
- 7:16Speaker 2: to it, and it just became like you know, in
- 7:18Speaker 2: that region record that was was that, No, it was
- 7:23Speaker 2: before that you started out.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I said, you couldn't be a better player to leave it.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Couldn't be a better player was the first song we
- 7:29Speaker 2: did it and it just went big. So we just
- 7:35Speaker 2: started making records together. Little John at the time had
- 7:39Speaker 2: when he I guess when he put out who You Went?
- 7:41Speaker 1: He signed who You Wit? He signed to a small
- 7:45Speaker 1: label and prior to tv T.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and he was having this dispute. You know,
- 7:50Speaker 2: they weren't seeing eye to eye. And I always tell
- 7:54Speaker 2: people it's no gangster shit involved in nothing.
- 7:56Speaker 1: The guy who.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Had the contract with John was somebody that I had
- 8:00Speaker 2: worked with, right, and you know, it was just he.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I asked Little John was the problem?
- 8:05Speaker 1: You know? They was both saying f each other. And uh.
- 8:09Speaker 2: His version was, well, I spent money on Little John
- 8:12Speaker 2: and I'm not budget. I get my money back back there.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Little John's version was, well, man, I'm not happy, so
- 8:18Speaker 2: I'm not making music with him. So I just figured
- 8:20Speaker 2: out what the amount was, put whatever the sauce on
- 8:23Speaker 2: it paid him.
- 8:24Speaker 1: It was like, man, I got business with Little Johnny, and.
- 8:26Speaker 2: You know it was you know, it wasn't like I
- 8:28Speaker 2: was buying out some super hot artists or something. But
- 8:32Speaker 2: Little John had offers on the table like the TVT
- 8:34Speaker 2: and some other stuff, and it was stopping him from
- 8:37Speaker 2: from getting there. So I basically just stepped in played
- 8:40Speaker 2: the stepping stone, you know.
- 8:42Speaker 1: I said, look, I bought you out the contract you free.
- 8:45Speaker 2: You know, I could be like saying signed to me
- 8:47Speaker 2: or something, but I would much rather cause he works
- 8:50Speaker 2: for so so differ.
- 8:51Speaker 1: He's a DJ who's breaking records.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I realized his full potential. He I heard the beats,
- 8:57Speaker 2: and I'm like, do what you gotta do. Just put
- 9:01Speaker 2: me on.
- 9:01Speaker 1: The forever list of Little John beats. You know.
- 9:04Speaker 2: That was that was my pay and you know it
- 9:09Speaker 2: paid off. I had people in my earback then going, man.
- 9:12Speaker 1: That's Little John White and the son you had him.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I'm like, no, bro, And then you know.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Fast off because one of the biggest hip hop songs
- 9:18Speaker 3: of all time ended up being blow the Whistle.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and he did shake that monkey, so he kind
- 9:21Speaker 2: of which is my ship. So I'm at a point
- 9:23Speaker 2: in my career when he does those two songs. Two
- 9:26Speaker 2: thousand and four five was when we recorded him, I'm like, potentially,
- 9:31Speaker 2: like on the fence, you know, could I go, you know,
- 9:34Speaker 2: fall over with the other OG's who are like retiring
- 9:37Speaker 2: one after the other, not voluntarily.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Right because you had retired and what.
- 9:42Speaker 2: But mine was you know, the rap game will retire you.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Sure it will park you, and nobody will call you anymore.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And you know, those songs gave me like the infinite
- 9:54Speaker 2: extension of my career forever.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Yeah, no, that's a fact, dude. I think a lot
- 9:59Speaker 3: of people don't unders stand or they're very surprised when
- 10:02Speaker 3: they learned that, uh, blow the whistle is produced by
- 10:06Speaker 3: someone from Atlanta.
- 10:07Speaker 2: So in essence, little John is you know forever, like
- 10:11Speaker 2: you know, my guy because of what he's done for
- 10:14Speaker 2: me and vice versa. So you know, And and then
- 10:17Speaker 2: he becomes super instrumental in the emergence of crunk music.
- 10:22Speaker 1: He is the main player, he's the face of it.
- 10:25Speaker 2: And then he comes over to California and catches win
- 10:29Speaker 2: of the Hyphee movement and he starts giving people Hyphee records,
- 10:32Speaker 2: not just Barrier people either. He went and gave Yin
- 10:35Speaker 2: Yang some Hyphee songs and Pete Pablo.
- 10:38Speaker 3: He also did tell me when they go right, Yes
- 10:40Speaker 3: he did, so he I mean those are I mean,
- 10:44Speaker 3: are those are the two biggest Bay Area raps.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I wouldn't say those were the best Hyphee songs.
- 10:49Speaker 3: I would just say, but they're the two biggest Bay arias.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I mean, like Hammer and all that.
- 10:53Speaker 2: But then he forty had a phone call one day
- 10:55Speaker 2: and we decided to stamp the Hyphee movement and we're like,
- 10:58Speaker 2: I like what the youngsters are doing. Let's do something,
- 11:00Speaker 2: because you guys are old g's at that point. Yeah,
- 11:01Speaker 2: let's do something to help it move. He did tell
- 11:03Speaker 2: me when to go. I did blow the whistle. We
- 11:05Speaker 2: did some more little sprinkles of other songs with the vibe,
- 11:08Speaker 2: and we support the movie. We never stepped up and
- 11:10Speaker 2: said this is our movement. It was always the little
- 11:12Speaker 2: Hole music was.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Always it was always the young generation.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it was mac dre is kind of up there,
- 11:17Speaker 2: but it was still Mac dra keeped the sneak and
- 11:19Speaker 2: you know, the Federation and the Team and all these
- 11:21Speaker 2: groups that you know, like the Pack and all these
- 11:23Speaker 2: groups that were thriving.
- 11:25Speaker 1: At the time. So, you know, I think that helping
- 11:29Speaker 1: little John get in the game just I didn't. He
- 11:32Speaker 1: did it on his own. I just got the obstacle. Op.
- 11:35Speaker 1: You're very instrumental in it for sure. And then this
- 11:37Speaker 1: new album. It helped music a lot. We got a
- 11:39Speaker 1: lot of songs for them, oh man, for that one thing,
- 11:42Speaker 1: he gave us a lot of music. You know.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I go back and listen to Crunk Juice and Kings
- 11:48Speaker 3: of Crunk so much. Yeah, so much. Those two albums
- 11:52Speaker 3: are just I mean, man. And then some of the
- 11:56Speaker 3: collaborations he was putting together, like putting the ice Cube
- 11:58Speaker 3: and nas on Grand for Now, Oh yeah, just some
- 12:01Speaker 3: of the shit, like Little John was just throwing so
- 12:03Speaker 3: much gumbo into the pot that you would even expect
- 12:06Speaker 3: to go crazy.
- 12:06Speaker 1: He'd be like, oh, this is crazy.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Like, yeah, he's got that song or turned down for
- 12:11Speaker 2: what of course, and he it sounds like a little
- 12:13Speaker 2: John beat, But he didn't produce that.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I think maybe DJ Snake produced it.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Snake did, yeah, yeah, But Little John says what maybe
- 12:21Speaker 2: ten twelve words?
- 12:23Speaker 1: I think he might say like, yeah, ten maybe ten,
- 12:26Speaker 1: And it's.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Like it's like the biggest shit ever. All I said
- 12:28Speaker 2: was ten words. So crazy.
- 12:30Speaker 1: That's amazing. Man. Not a lot of us could make
- 12:32Speaker 1: a ten words song.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Sonically, where is this album that you guys are working on?
- 12:37Speaker 3: Is it more of the like newer era stuff because so.
- 12:39Speaker 1: You got to get the big picture. Man.
- 12:41Speaker 2: So uh, for a long time now, probably since COVID,
- 12:47Speaker 2: I've probably recorded one hundred and two short songs, seventy
- 12:52Speaker 2: five songs I don't know, right, but then I also
- 12:54Speaker 2: recorded another fifty songs with Mount westmore Right and always
- 12:59Speaker 2: doing shows. Always you've been You're very busy on this
- 13:03Speaker 2: and that and just doing stuff, but not really announcing
- 13:06Speaker 2: to people how much I really how much time I
- 13:09Speaker 2: really spent in the studio really making dope ass records
- 13:12Speaker 2: that I really haven't been putting out.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And it's a lot of them, and you're sparring NonStop.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I said, people around and start playing two short songs.
- 13:19Speaker 2: They're like, what the fuck is your problem? Is this
- 13:21Speaker 2: shit not out? But there was always a plan, and
- 13:25Speaker 2: I knew that the Freaky Tales movie was coming. This
- 13:27Speaker 2: has been years in the making, like, uh, you know it.
- 13:31Speaker 2: The deal of the process of making the movie has
- 13:34Speaker 2: probably been a four year process, you know now.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I remember SEMBA hit me pretty early on and was like,
- 13:39Speaker 1: don't tell anybody, I'm about to play too short in
- 13:42Speaker 1: a movie.
- 13:42Speaker 2: And I'm like, so I was on when they were
- 13:46Speaker 2: trying to get to the part where they even shoot
- 13:48Speaker 2: the movie, you know, before the cast for sure, and
- 13:51Speaker 2: I just figured, let's just time this out and wait
- 13:56Speaker 2: till the movie comes out. And then I started my
- 13:57Speaker 2: little movement. So I have a series of albums. It's
- 14:03Speaker 2: called Sir Too Short. That was originally my name before
- 14:06Speaker 2: too Short, when I first broke out, and I'm like,
- 14:09Speaker 2: this is me. I was ser too Short. I used
- 14:11Speaker 2: to write it, tag it everywhere all over the Bay.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Anywhere I would stop for five minutes, I would tag
- 14:16Speaker 2: Sir too Short. And I decided to make a throwback
- 14:20Speaker 2: album and Banks, well.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And Banks's production is all over it.
- 14:24Speaker 2: A lot of music with a Banks recently so and
- 14:27Speaker 2: it was he was I couldn't do it without.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Him, so they player short shit. Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 2: So the first installment is the sort of Me and
- 14:35Speaker 2: and Banks flavor. It's real Bay. I knew what the
- 14:38Speaker 2: movie was gonna be about. I knew the movie was
- 14:40Speaker 2: gonna be set in nineteen eighty seven. So instead of
- 14:42Speaker 2: me trying to, you know, put out an album and like,
- 14:45Speaker 2: you know, Kendrick's coming out next week, I'm coming out
- 14:47Speaker 2: of the weekend. I'm like, I'm just gonna go in
- 14:50Speaker 2: my zone and make some og as too short shit.
- 14:53Speaker 1: So that's what I did.
- 14:54Speaker 2: And then I was trying to do one song that
- 14:58Speaker 2: me and Little John had recorded a about six seven
- 15:01Speaker 2: years ago. It was laying around Ghazi from Empire. Shout
- 15:04Speaker 2: to Gazi heard the song way back when. So every
- 15:07Speaker 2: two years he goes, hey, man, let's put let's put
- 15:10Speaker 2: out that Little John song. I'm like, all right, And
- 15:12Speaker 2: then two years later.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Let's put that song out.
- 15:14Speaker 2: So once again, no one. I'm getting ready to try
- 15:16Speaker 2: to put something out of the movie. He's like, you
- 15:18Speaker 2: gotta put that Little John.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Song on there.
- 15:19Speaker 2: So I called a Little John, so let's make it
- 15:22Speaker 2: new again, and he comes to the studio and we
- 15:26Speaker 2: make We did something something.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I don't even know. We messed with that song a
- 15:30Speaker 1: little bit, but we did something.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And he's like, I'm gonna leave some beats, and he
- 15:36Speaker 2: just leaves me some beats. This is like on a Monday.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I sent him. He probably gave me like twenty beats
- 15:42Speaker 2: to listen to. A week later, I sent him like
- 15:46Speaker 2: fourteen songs recorded and he said he.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Was like, oh, show you serious, son.
- 15:51Speaker 2: And he sent me like fifteen more beats and I'm
- 15:55Speaker 2: like started recording on those. I'm like just doing them
- 15:58Speaker 2: because they Little John beats some grabbing everything I've gotten,
- 16:01Speaker 2: just you know, because I've been recording for years. I'm like,
- 16:04Speaker 2: I got a lot of shit. And then he's like,
- 16:07Speaker 2: all right, send me in another pack of beasts. I'm like, dude,
- 16:10Speaker 2: I have more than enough for the album. He said, well, shit,
- 16:12Speaker 2: make two albums. I'm like, all right, That's what I'll do. Then,
- 16:15Speaker 2: So what happens after the throwback albums?
- 16:19Speaker 1: So Too Short?
- 16:20Speaker 2: Volume one is the Little Giant album, which is called
- 16:23Speaker 2: Drinking Smoke, and it's a little more up tempo, it's
- 16:27Speaker 2: a little more it's reminiscent of the songs that me
- 16:29Speaker 2: and Little John made together.
- 16:31Speaker 1: And then it's so ignorant. The topics, the shit talking,
- 16:36Speaker 1: all the.
- 16:37Speaker 2: OG's are like not all the OG's, but the og
- 16:41Speaker 2: idea is like, you're in your fifties, you should be
- 16:46Speaker 2: a mentor, and you should you should.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Say responsible things on songs now because you have matured.
- 16:52Speaker 1: And not too Short. I'm like, right, where the fuck
- 16:54Speaker 1: I was at nineteen eighty eight. I'm not.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I can't I can't see being a character called too Short.
- 17:00Speaker 2: And then making the character grow the fuck up.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and also like your fans who are like, I mean,
- 17:05Speaker 3: I'm thirty eight. You know, I obviously was listening to
- 17:08Speaker 3: you when I was a very small child, shot to
- 17:10Speaker 3: my parents for you know, whether or not they were
- 17:12Speaker 3: being good or bad parents for that is. But you know,
- 17:16Speaker 3: people ten years older than me, people five years older
- 17:18Speaker 3: than me, like they don't.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Want to hear too short, like we we love short
- 17:21Speaker 1: for short.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Like It's like I just had that conversation with Cube
- 17:24Speaker 3: when he was up here because I thanked him. I
- 17:26Speaker 3: was like, hey man, thank you for this new shit
- 17:30Speaker 3: sounding like ice Cube and not sounded myself trying to
- 17:33Speaker 3: do some young head shit.
- 17:34Speaker 1: You know. Will Smith was asking Kendrick for advice. He's like,
- 17:40Speaker 1: just talk shit, yeah, be true to yourself. Talk shit, bro.
- 17:44Speaker 2: So they're gonna talk about the mature the lack of
- 17:48Speaker 2: maturity whatever in the subjects and the and the language
- 17:51Speaker 2: and whatever.
- 17:52Speaker 1: But then volume three is actually gonna be that thing
- 17:56Speaker 1: that they think a grown rapper should do.
- 17:58Speaker 2: And you know, sounds like the message in life is
- 18:00Speaker 2: too short, and you know with the with the concerned lyrics.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I mean even getting it to like a motivational likes.
- 18:08Speaker 2: I always balanced my career for sure by talking the
- 18:11Speaker 2: most extreme shiite and then talking the most intelligent ship.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And the last album is just I have I make
- 18:18Speaker 2: those kind of songs.
- 18:19Speaker 1: It's game.
- 18:20Speaker 2: So I just you know, I'm gonna get my grown
- 18:23Speaker 2: man on on the way out. I want them to
- 18:25Speaker 2: talk a lot of shit, somebody. I want somebody to
- 18:27Speaker 2: talk shit. And like, that's just so childish. Are too
- 18:30Speaker 2: short to drop that, you know in the environment in
- 18:33Speaker 2: the world today is putting all these negative shits about.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Pimping and hoeing. Hey, it's too short.
- 18:38Speaker 2: If I was making movies, I wouldn't fucking you know,
- 18:42Speaker 2: change Batman to fucking uh to do something that Batman
- 18:46Speaker 2: wouldn't fucking DoD Damn.
- 18:48Speaker 1: You got a character, run the character. Yeah, no, that's
- 18:51Speaker 1: I'm excited.
- 18:52Speaker 3: So when is the like, in terms of when you're
- 18:55Speaker 3: gonna start rolling this stuff out?
- 18:57Speaker 2: The first volume one drops April eighteenth, so that's Friday. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 2: next Friday, And I'm dropping a single this Friday. It's
- 19:04Speaker 2: called still Mackin And then they each one would they
- 19:07Speaker 2: all got to come out before the end of the year,
- 19:08Speaker 2: so they'll be ninety two one hundred twenty days apart
- 19:11Speaker 2: three to four months.
- 19:12Speaker 3: What is it man, at this point in time in
- 19:14Speaker 3: your career, Like, what is the motivation? A lot of
- 19:18Speaker 3: people get comfortable, a lot of people get lazy, they
- 19:20Speaker 3: stop going to the studio. Why do you still have
- 19:23Speaker 3: the drive? What is it that you attribute that to longevity?
- 19:28Speaker 2: I stayed in the game so long that I looked around,
- 19:30Speaker 2: I see everything that's going on. I've seen all the
- 19:32Speaker 2: people that came and went. I've heard all the chitter
- 19:34Speaker 2: chatter about hip hop's limitations and how far I can go.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I remember when you couldn't.
- 19:40Speaker 2: You couldn't be a thirty something year old rapper because
- 19:43Speaker 2: they're like, what your old dad's doing rapping? Right now,
- 19:45Speaker 2: we have very successful represent their forties and fifties, And
- 19:48Speaker 2: I just think that when you look at people out
- 19:52Speaker 2: there just pushing it constantly on the road, trash, you know,
- 19:56Speaker 2: people staying in the limelight.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Fat Joe, you know what I'm saying.
- 20:01Speaker 2: KRS one got twenty some albums and it's always you know,
- 20:04Speaker 2: speaking hip hop and always relevant, you know. So it's like,
- 20:08Speaker 2: you know, rock him, he just got red Man is
- 20:12Speaker 2: dropping dope as freestyles and I'm like, I just think
- 20:15Speaker 2: that we have to.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Make it.
- 20:20Speaker 2: You know, we have to own the narrative of like
- 20:23Speaker 2: when does hip hop expire? When does the artist expire?
- 20:26Speaker 2: And the only way to do that is to live it.
- 20:28Speaker 2: We the generation who's poised right now to tell a
- 20:34Speaker 2: story to the infinite version of it, Like who's going
- 20:37Speaker 2: to be the first rapper who is rocking the crowd
- 20:42Speaker 2: at seventy two years old? You know somebody's going to
- 20:44Speaker 2: do it well?
- 20:45Speaker 3: Also too, like you're kind of I mean, I know
- 20:47Speaker 3: we mentioned like rock him and those guys, but like
- 20:49Speaker 3: in terms of like cultural relevance from your era of music,
- 20:53Speaker 3: cubes in the mix obviously, but like wherever club you
- 20:58Speaker 3: go to in the country, right, you're gonna hear blow
- 21:01Speaker 3: the whistle. Oh yeah, it doesn't matter where you are.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Could be a white club, it could be a hood club,
- 21:04Speaker 3: it could be a bar mitzvah, it could be a
- 21:06Speaker 3: basketball game, it could be anything. Blow the whistle is
- 21:10Speaker 3: getting played. And you have such like a position in
- 21:15Speaker 3: like culture where it's like it's it's almost like the
- 21:18Speaker 3: snoop dog effect, like when people be like, oh too show,
- 21:21Speaker 3: I love too show, Like everyone loves you like it's
- 21:24Speaker 3: pretty crazy, like to be able to kind of have
- 21:26Speaker 3: that kind of grace with with with the public.
- 21:28Speaker 2: And you don't. That's something that you don't work at.
- 21:31Speaker 2: You just make good music. And you you remember that
- 21:36Speaker 2: thing about you got to have the biggest ego and
- 21:38Speaker 2: be hum humble at the same time.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Like a lot of people can't do both of those.
- 21:42Speaker 2: You get you got you got ego maniac and then
- 21:45Speaker 2: you got people like, you know, zero humility, and they
- 21:48Speaker 2: just come in and just shit on people, and it's
- 21:51Speaker 2: just it's not a good energy. And I think that
- 21:54Speaker 2: I always put that good energy out. I've always had
- 21:57Speaker 2: never been too much in a hurry to a picture
- 22:00Speaker 2: or listen to somebody's sixty second story about a too
- 22:05Speaker 2: short experience.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Just like back in the day I ran into you
- 22:08Speaker 1: at this.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Moll, I understand that from the start. I understand that
- 22:14Speaker 2: it's gonna.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Come around full circle. I used to.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I used to do this thing where it was just
- 22:21Speaker 2: an experiment. It was my first time going on tour
- 22:23Speaker 2: and everybody's.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Like too short, too short, short dog, And I.
- 22:26Speaker 2: Said, I'm gonna do this thing where I'm going to
- 22:28Speaker 2: tell all these beautiful women, Hi, my name is Todd.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and just they're like, that's the dumbest shit ever.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Why are you doing it? I'm like, because at some
- 22:37Speaker 2: point it's gonna be a bunch of beautiful women walking
- 22:40Speaker 2: up to me going high Todd. And I did this
- 22:42Speaker 2: shit for years. It just was like, oh, hi, my
- 22:44Speaker 2: name's Todd. They're like, oh, you know that's your real name. Yeah, Todd,
- 22:47Speaker 2: how you doing Yeah? And I just said this shit forever.
- 22:49Speaker 2: And then all of a sudden I started going places
- 22:52Speaker 2: and it just be some fine chick across the bar, Todd, Todd, I.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Ain't seen you in a while. And they're like, how
- 22:57Speaker 1: the fuck you know her? And it became this thing
- 23:00Speaker 1: and I.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Was just like, I just it was just part of
- 23:02Speaker 2: the two short mystique, Like how do you do this shit?
- 23:04Speaker 1: Bro? And it's it's a little fucking this player ship.
- 23:09Speaker 1: That's that's.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I studied some og players and I came up with
- 23:14Speaker 2: my own version.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Yo.
- 23:16Speaker 3: You uh, you're an artist who has a unique connection
- 23:21Speaker 3: with I look at like a group like Bone. Thugs
- 23:24Speaker 3: like Bone got to work with Biggie, they got to
- 23:26Speaker 3: work with Park, they got to work with Easy, of course,
- 23:31Speaker 3: but you had such an incredible working relationship with Biggie.
- 23:37Speaker 3: But then you also, I mean one of the most
- 23:39Speaker 3: underrated chemistries. I think when we think back to albums
- 23:43Speaker 3: and the amount of songs you guys, did you and
- 23:45Speaker 3: jay Z had a run together where you guys.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Got three songs of jay three songs are big?
- 23:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's that's pretty crazy. Like, first, I'll
- 23:54Speaker 3: start with the Biggie relationship because I know one of
- 23:56Speaker 3: Biggy's last interviews, actually his last interview was in the
- 23:59Speaker 3: Bay I believe it was that came out before you last.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but what was you know?
- 24:05Speaker 3: And obviously you know you've got Diddy on your ship,
- 24:07Speaker 3: obviously probably to the craziness, but you had such a
- 24:11Speaker 3: connection with Biggie and puffing those guys, Like how did
- 24:14Speaker 3: that relationship kind of start?
- 24:16Speaker 2: And I've really got to give one hundred credit now,
- 24:20Speaker 2: I'll go fifty to fifty. Half of it was Biggie
- 24:25Speaker 2: reaching out to me, and the other half would probably
- 24:28Speaker 2: I would have to give it to Eric Sermon because
- 24:30Speaker 2: he was my neighbor in Atlanta.
- 24:31Speaker 1: We made a lot of songs together.
- 24:33Speaker 2: He really the first song that New Yorker's ever liked
- 24:36Speaker 2: me and by the Masses was a duet with me
- 24:39Speaker 2: and Eric Sermon.
- 24:40Speaker 1: But the thing that really happened Biggie called me. Nope,
- 24:45Speaker 1: he didn't call me.
- 24:46Speaker 2: He had puff called me and he said, big On
- 24:48Speaker 2: to do a song with you, and I'm like cool,
- 24:51Speaker 2: and we made the song.
- 24:52Speaker 1: The world the world filed it. So that actually just
- 24:58Speaker 1: like makes all these New York workers go, oh, man,
- 25:01Speaker 1: I fuck with you. I fuck with you.
- 25:02Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, and it just it just became,
- 25:05Speaker 2: you know, a fuck with you. And then I do
- 25:08Speaker 2: this song with jay Z. Real niggas do real things,
- 25:11Speaker 2: and then that opens up another door. I do a
- 25:14Speaker 2: song with Little Kim call Me for the Booty Call soundtrack,
- 25:18Speaker 2: and now I'm like sort of okay in New York.
- 25:22Speaker 2: So me and Eric Sermon had a song called buy
- 25:23Speaker 2: You Something. So now I got like four joints at
- 25:27Speaker 2: all these years of New York ignoring the fuck out
- 25:29Speaker 2: of me, got about four joints.
- 25:31Speaker 1: But these four joints are with the heavy head it is.
- 25:34Speaker 2: And then the phone starts ringing and they want me
- 25:37Speaker 2: on the Foxy Brown album and I'm just.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Doing songs with New yorkers.
- 25:40Speaker 2: So it was it was Biggie because everybody he was
- 25:44Speaker 2: the hottest motherfucker and then here I am with Big
- 25:48Speaker 2: on a song.
- 25:48Speaker 1: They're like, well shit, I.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Got to get two short on the song because also
- 25:51Speaker 2: the word was out that I had ten platinum albums,
- 25:53Speaker 2: but it was like six platinums.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Four gold. And you know, folks are just like it
- 25:59Speaker 1: with the feet, your thing was starting to pick up.
- 26:01Speaker 1: We didn't used to do features back in the day.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yeah, so because obviously nowadays, a lot of features get
- 26:06Speaker 3: done over email. Back then, were you able to be
- 26:07Speaker 3: in the studio.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Well, yeah, you pretty much all the features were done
- 26:11Speaker 1: in person. What's the studio session? Like with Biggie?
- 26:13Speaker 2: The first one, the world is Filled? The song was
- 26:19Speaker 2: recorded at a at Bad Boys studio Daddy's house in
- 26:23Speaker 2: New York.
- 26:24Speaker 1: I got to the session. I had one of my
- 26:26Speaker 1: homies with me.
- 26:29Speaker 2: And it's people. It's like a vibe, it's people in
- 26:31Speaker 2: the studios. We smoked liquor, the usual session and Puff
- 26:39Speaker 2: Daddy is on the first verse of the song. Carl
- 26:43Speaker 2: Thomas is on the hook.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I was wondering who did that hook? Yeah, Carl Thomas.
- 26:48Speaker 2: And the hook is already done and Puffy's excited, you know,
- 26:53Speaker 2: he's always like a high energy. When he's in the room,
- 26:56Speaker 2: he's like playing this shit, loving it. Everybody in the
- 26:59Speaker 2: room is agreeing this is one of the ones. And
- 27:02Speaker 2: I'm sitting there my usual routine, grab a pan paper
- 27:06Speaker 2: and just start vibing. The song is the hook is
- 27:09Speaker 2: saying the world is Philip, Pips and Hose. We'll just
- 27:12Speaker 2: talk about those I know, and it's just you know.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Puff comes on. He's talking some slick shit about balling,
- 27:18Speaker 2: being a baller and shit, and then Big goes in there.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Everybody's laughing and drinking. He goes into booth without like
- 27:28Speaker 2: writing anything. So I'm thinking, I don't know this shit
- 27:31Speaker 2: about the rhyming with no paper within him, no pain.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Him and jay Z and all of them would would
- 27:37Speaker 2: soon make famous, but it wasn't famous on this day.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I didn't know about it. So he's just sitting around
- 27:43Speaker 1: drinking and smoking.
- 27:44Speaker 2: He goes, I'm ready to get in the booth, and
- 27:47Speaker 2: I'm like, what the fuck does he meaning?
- 27:48Speaker 1: Write?
- 27:49Speaker 2: Like I'm just And he goes in there and he
- 27:53Speaker 2: says he announces because everybody's a little tipsy and having fun.
- 27:57Speaker 2: He's like, I'm gonna do this shit in one take,
- 28:00Speaker 2: and he goes in there, says a couple of lines
- 28:03Speaker 2: and I guess messed up or didn't get the line right,
- 28:05Speaker 2: and he said, run me back, and the next take
- 28:08Speaker 2: he runs his shit front the back sixteen bars, and
- 28:12Speaker 2: when he comes out the booth, it's like cheers.
- 28:15Speaker 1: And claps and everybody's like whash.
- 28:18Speaker 2: And I'm like sitting there with an empty piece of
- 28:20Speaker 2: paper like this, and I'm like, the whole song is done.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Now.
- 28:24Speaker 2: The song has a blank sixteen bars. Everybody's in the mood,
- 28:28Speaker 2: smoking the air. Ain't nobody pressuring me, but it's I'm pressure.
- 28:31Speaker 1: You're pressuring yourself. And I'm like, what the fuck.
- 28:34Speaker 2: So I go to my boy and I'm like, I
- 28:37Speaker 2: should do if you kind of ripped that shit.
- 28:39Speaker 1: I was like, man, I ain't even wrote nothing. And
- 28:41Speaker 1: my boy, he's from Oakland.
- 28:42Speaker 2: He said, he said, shit, listen to the hook. I'm like, okay,
- 28:46Speaker 2: you said none of them. Ain't nobody own the song
- 28:50Speaker 2: said anything about what the hook is saying. And I'm
- 28:53Speaker 2: like like, bub okay, I'm just gonna write the story
- 28:55Speaker 2: of the hook. So I told the story about some
- 28:58Speaker 2: pimps and holes. I know, in the end, I start
- 29:00Speaker 2: talking some shit about some pimps and holes I know,
- 29:03Speaker 2: and then I come out the roof and they're like,
- 29:05Speaker 2: oh shit. I'm like, okay, so my guy, he just
- 29:09Speaker 2: he was My guy's not a rapper write a songwriter,
- 29:12Speaker 2: but he's been in many sessions with me and always
- 29:15Speaker 2: he's a gamer. He got game for sure, so he's like,
- 29:18Speaker 2: didn't spit that game. Like one time I was writing
- 29:20Speaker 2: a song and he's like, what you gonna write about it?
- 29:23Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't know.
- 29:24Speaker 2: He's like shit, He's like, I tell you a story.
- 29:26Speaker 2: He's like, when I was in fifth grade, I used
- 29:28Speaker 2: to steal cigarettes at the story and then go around
- 29:31Speaker 2: selling cigarettes to adults. That's how I got money. And
- 29:34Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, I wrote a rapper about it. Little
- 29:36Speaker 2: nigga in the fifth grade selling cigarettes. That's one of
- 29:39Speaker 2: my songs. But that's how we used to get down.
- 29:42Speaker 2: So the World Is Filled became a classic, and you know,
- 29:47Speaker 2: I was. It was one of those times where I'm
- 29:50Speaker 2: I'm I'm not trying to jab with Biggie lyric for
- 29:52Speaker 2: lyric in the studio. I know what I'm up against
- 29:55Speaker 2: when I do songs with these super lyricists. But I
- 29:58Speaker 2: always spit game.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Always sure it's funny because then you end up in
- 30:02Speaker 3: the studio with jay Z, who does the same kind
- 30:04Speaker 3: of thing.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Yep, you must be like, you know, it was these
- 30:06Speaker 1: New York motherfuckers gonna be writing nothing down.
- 30:08Speaker 2: And then with jay Z song I actually sent him
- 30:10Speaker 2: the Verse the World the Real Niggas was was a
- 30:14Speaker 2: song that was written when I got the dem with
- 30:17Speaker 2: the demo version that was.
- 30:18Speaker 3: One on Value one right, I can't remember, and volume
- 30:21Speaker 3: two year on it was all good just a week ago.
- 30:24Speaker 2: That song was written for him to do a duet
- 30:26Speaker 2: with Scarface. And you always say the stories about jay
- 30:30Speaker 2: Z and UGK and these people. People didn't want to
- 30:33Speaker 2: do songs with certain people because they thought they weren't
- 30:36Speaker 2: friends of Tupacs, and it was always this this thing
- 30:40Speaker 2: of I'm ride with Tupac.
- 30:42Speaker 1: At that time, it was so East West because that
- 30:44Speaker 1: was like an actual thing that people were cognitive with.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Some people like you Pimpsey was really on that, and
- 30:51Speaker 1: I don't I don't know.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I think Scarface it was partially because he didn't like
- 30:54Speaker 2: to fly on airplanes at the time. And then you know,
- 30:58Speaker 2: I guess you gotta like some people was just like
- 31:02Speaker 2: I got a ride for the side I fuck with right,
- 31:05Speaker 2: and it just was like that. I can't tell you
- 31:06Speaker 2: if that was Scarface's motivation, but he didn't do the song,
- 31:09Speaker 2: but you kind of fucked with everybody at that time.
- 31:10Speaker 2: And in that song, jay Z says something something about
- 31:13Speaker 2: short he says something about short Dog. But there was
- 31:15Speaker 2: a version where he said Scarface that I heard, and
- 31:19Speaker 2: you know, I knew Face wasn't doing it. But then,
- 31:22Speaker 2: you know, even when I get in the studio with
- 31:25Speaker 2: Scarface e forty, all these motherfuckers just drop gasoline on
- 31:29Speaker 2: the track and look over like what you gonna do now?
- 31:31Speaker 2: And I just always slide in there and just I
- 31:34Speaker 2: never try to out wrap them. I just spit game
- 31:37Speaker 2: and it always works for me.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Well, you're also like one of the greatest storytellers in
- 31:41Speaker 1: hip hop history. I do that too. I give you
- 31:44Speaker 1: a lesson by example by using a story.
- 31:48Speaker 2: And I know that when I'm on songs with other
- 31:50Speaker 2: rappers and they doing all this great word play, I'm
- 31:53Speaker 2: really just gonna I'm gonna give it to you, paint
- 31:55Speaker 2: a picture or something, and just it's me, it's my
- 31:57Speaker 2: your style. Yeah, So I like to whenever I get
- 32:01Speaker 2: on the song with a super rapper, I like to
- 32:03Speaker 2: dumb it down a little bit and twang the words
- 32:05Speaker 2: a little bit. I'm doing that thing mine and I
- 32:08Speaker 2: just I'm like, I'm not gonna battle you.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Broh. Yeah yo.
- 32:12Speaker 3: One of my favorite songs that you ever put out
- 32:15Speaker 3: was one of the best stories ever told on record,
- 32:18Speaker 3: blowjob Betty.
- 32:21Speaker 1: That should have been a movie.
- 32:23Speaker 3: It should have been a movie. For people who haven't
- 32:25Speaker 3: heard the song, go please go listen to it. It's
- 32:28Speaker 3: essentially about Too Short had a girl who he had
- 32:32Speaker 3: to kick to the curve because she was tripping, and.
- 32:35Speaker 1: She ended up I'd like to fuck for free. Yeah,
- 32:38Speaker 1: she because she was a real hoe, right and uh.
- 32:41Speaker 3: It all wraps up with Short running into a bathroom,
- 32:44Speaker 3: running into her in a bathroom after she gets done
- 32:46Speaker 3: serving a bunch of strangers, and Too Short says one
- 32:49Speaker 3: more go and then busting under her mouth, she chokes
- 32:53Speaker 3: on it.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Shot that fatal nut. Yes, she dies.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Too Short doesn't find out about it until later when
- 32:59Speaker 3: he's was it the newspaper the news?
- 33:01Speaker 1: I forget And it was on the news. The young
- 33:04Speaker 1: girl died just last night.
- 33:06Speaker 3: She choked on sperman or wind pipe. Sorry to say
- 33:11Speaker 3: there's no suspect I busted down and killed the bitch anyway.
- 33:15Speaker 3: You know what, when I wrote that song, please tell
- 33:17Speaker 3: me yes.
- 33:18Speaker 2: When I wrote that song, the first thing I wrote
- 33:21Speaker 2: on the paper was I busting that and killed the bitch.
- 33:24Speaker 2: That's the first thing I wrote. I said, this is
- 33:25Speaker 2: gonna be the last thing I say in that song.
- 33:27Speaker 2: And I wrote the song to catch up to that
- 33:30Speaker 2: one line.
- 33:31Speaker 3: That's so crazy, Yeah, because you found you know where
- 33:34Speaker 3: the ending's going.
- 33:35Speaker 2: I mean, I was like, I thought of that, and
- 33:37Speaker 2: I'm like, I gotta do something with this. Wrote it down,
- 33:40Speaker 2: busting that and killed the bitch.
- 33:41Speaker 1: That's what we're gonna get to.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Did like fans take that and like there wasn't Google
- 33:46Speaker 3: back then, But was there any like a lord that
- 33:48Speaker 3: this was like a true story kind of or some
- 33:50Speaker 3: semi truth.
- 33:51Speaker 2: I mean, truthfully, people really in the eighties and nineties,
- 33:58Speaker 2: they really thought I pimped a lot of holes.
- 34:00Speaker 1: And I really thought that, oh, that shit was rude.
- 34:02Speaker 1: I thought that it's just like that's because hip hop
- 34:05Speaker 1: still had that mystique. I assumed you were.
- 34:07Speaker 2: I mean, man, but I used to hang with a
- 34:10Speaker 2: lot of pimps. And it was very pimpish. But you know,
- 34:12Speaker 2: I had a really good job. I used to like
- 34:14Speaker 2: cops would have harassed me a little bit, and I'm like, bro,
- 34:17Speaker 2: I got a really fucking good job. I'm like, why
- 34:19Speaker 2: would I sell dope? Why would I pimp hose? I
- 34:22Speaker 2: get a fucking, you know, million dollar check every fucking
- 34:25Speaker 2: six months. What are you talking about?
- 34:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Plus, you grow up in the Bay, so it's
- 34:28Speaker 3: like you're telling the story of like a culture from
- 34:31Speaker 3: a place that's like very much pimps and hosea.
- 34:35Speaker 2: I was very fortunate enough to end up in Oakland, California,
- 34:39Speaker 2: and a lot of too short is the story of Oakland.
- 34:44Speaker 1: It's not the story of me.
- 34:46Speaker 2: It's me looking at Oakland and interpreting what I'm seeing
- 34:50Speaker 2: in songs, Like I literally could just think of some
- 34:54Speaker 2: shit that happened and write a song. That's how exciting
- 34:58Speaker 2: Oakland is when I'm coming up of age, and it's
- 35:02Speaker 2: not you know, the streets.
- 35:04Speaker 1: It's always been a wild city, but you could go
- 35:07Speaker 1: out and venture through the city. You're not gonna worry
- 35:10Speaker 1: about getting killed or any kind of problem happening somewhere.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I just had It's rough right now, for sure.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I just had free roam with the city and it
- 35:18Speaker 2: was like a blank canvas, and I wrote hundreds of
- 35:23Speaker 2: songs about Oakland.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's interesting too because you were kind of,
- 35:28Speaker 3: you know, the first rapper, at least one of the
- 35:31Speaker 3: first rappers to really I mean, uh, cuss and talk
- 35:37Speaker 3: the way you talked for real, you know what I'm saying.
- 35:40Speaker 1: I mean, because you were like I mean, technically you
- 35:42Speaker 1: were pre Nwa right before. I mean technically technically in
- 35:46Speaker 1: the streets. Yeah, in the streets.
- 35:48Speaker 2: I was famous in Oakland at the same time run
- 35:51Speaker 2: DMC and ll COOJ were famous, you know.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Essentially like the West Coast. It starts with too short
- 35:56Speaker 1: and nice tea, right, is that fair?
- 35:58Speaker 3: What?
- 35:59Speaker 1: No?
- 35:59Speaker 2: You gotta remember you had l A was making a
- 36:02Speaker 2: lot of dance music. It was I'm talking about just.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Like rappers like that, like we would. I got a
- 36:07Speaker 1: you know, I got an Egyptian lover and l A
- 36:10Speaker 1: dream team, you know, even when you know doctor Dre
- 36:14Speaker 1: and then they were doing an up temple thing, the
- 36:16Speaker 1: world Class Worcking Crewer. Yeah, I was buying those records.
- 36:19Speaker 1: I was still in high school, but I was a rapper.
- 36:23Speaker 2: I was a pretty popular fucking rapper around the Bay
- 36:26Speaker 2: at the same time. So I was one of the
- 36:30Speaker 2: first rappers I met that was like on because he
- 36:34Speaker 2: had did breaking and he was was doing like a
- 36:37Speaker 2: six in the morning and all that ship, and he
- 36:39Speaker 2: actually like chopped it up with me and gave me
- 36:41Speaker 2: some game, and I was I was motivated after having
- 36:44Speaker 2: a conversation with you know, young Ice t Young Too Short,
- 36:48Speaker 2: and I always remember that he would do that with
- 36:50Speaker 2: a lot of us, just give us a little game
- 36:52Speaker 2: about what we're getting into. Also a player, you know,
- 36:56Speaker 2: I do consider myself fully a part of the West
- 37:00Speaker 2: Coast emerging as a hip hop powerhouse.
- 37:04Speaker 3: I do, yeah, I mean you're you're like, what were
- 37:11Speaker 3: the like the blowback being one of the first artists
- 37:15Speaker 3: to have I mean you name it so on cusswords, right,
- 37:18Speaker 3: Like that's something that you know, it's like, hey, we're
- 37:20Speaker 3: cussing on songs.
- 37:21Speaker 1: This is this is this is not of the norm
- 37:24Speaker 1: per se, Like, yeah, the legitimate journalists who had all
- 37:29Speaker 1: the attention.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Because they were in the hip hop publications and you
- 37:34Speaker 2: know it could be fucking I don't know, everybody said
- 37:36Speaker 2: this ship there was like this guy too short he
- 37:39Speaker 2: really can't rap, and he just curses.
- 37:43Speaker 1: And basically the album would.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Come out and they would go platinum, and then I
- 37:49Speaker 2: put another one out and they go, yeah, he's you know,
- 37:54Speaker 2: the music's mediocre. You don't think, don't think this style
- 37:59Speaker 2: is gonna last too much longer, you know. And then
- 38:02Speaker 2: I have this Big Records, another platinum. I'm talking about
- 38:06Speaker 2: five six platinums in a row, and the review is
- 38:09Speaker 2: still coming out pretty mediocre, can't really wrap that good.
- 38:13Speaker 1: And I'm like, stupid, motherfucker.
- 38:14Speaker 2: I'm rapping like this on purpose because people can hear
- 38:17Speaker 2: what I'm saying and they feel it and they learned
- 38:19Speaker 2: every word and I'm spitting game and the basses HeLa deep,
- 38:23Speaker 2: and they like missing the whole point that we have
- 38:25Speaker 2: all these different styles of rap YEP, and you have
- 38:28Speaker 2: these lyricists who the wordplay is is is infectious and
- 38:33Speaker 2: you fucking want.
- 38:33Speaker 1: To learn it and rap alone.
- 38:34Speaker 3: We don't even feel like though back then, like if
- 38:36Speaker 3: we're talking like eighty seven, eighty eight, eighty nine, and
- 38:38Speaker 3: it's like ll you got Kine, you got Rockim, you
- 38:42Speaker 3: got rock Kim, but you were I just I always
- 38:45Speaker 3: felt like your music was so it resonated so clearly,
- 38:48Speaker 3: like you said, like you would say the fly shit.
- 38:52Speaker 1: In the simplest way, where'd be like, oh shit.
- 38:54Speaker 2: But there were a lot of hip hop heads who
- 38:57Speaker 2: were like one to ten. I just saw the phumod
- 39:00Speaker 2: report card. I never even knew about it. Yes, I
- 39:04Speaker 2: got a C plus, And I'm looking at his categories
- 39:07Speaker 2: and I'm like, of course I would give me a
- 39:08Speaker 2: C plus, But he was missing categories like how the
- 39:12Speaker 2: fuck you just rock that crowd or how the fuck
- 39:14Speaker 2: you make a song that that you know, motherfucker's in
- 39:18Speaker 2: the hood love they.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Don't need a radio station and shit.
- 39:20Speaker 2: And you know, if he could have seen the forest
- 39:24Speaker 2: forest sight to the future, it should have been a
- 39:25Speaker 2: category on there, Carl longevity, because I'd have got an
- 39:27Speaker 2: A plus and that motherfucker.
- 39:29Speaker 1: And I just always knew, man, this is what I'm
- 39:32Speaker 1: telling you.
- 39:33Speaker 2: I always knew that I didn't want to be a lyricist,
- 39:38Speaker 2: that I could easily put the words together and spit
- 39:40Speaker 2: the flow.
- 39:41Speaker 1: But it was that lane was taken.
- 39:43Speaker 2: And I'm sitting there like I chose to represent this
- 39:47Speaker 2: Oakland style of like pimpshit street shit, and I'm like,
- 39:50Speaker 2: that ain't the way people was talking, I'm gonna talk
- 39:53Speaker 2: like the pimps talk on this song and fucking like
- 39:57Speaker 2: I would just.
- 39:58Speaker 1: My get back was off.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Always live in concert, I'm like, just get on the show.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Put I don't let I never would be the headliner. Mostly,
- 40:07Speaker 2: I wouldn't be the headliner. We have these shows with
- 40:09Speaker 2: like you know, ten seven ten groups, and I'm like
- 40:12Speaker 2: somewhere in the middle, and I'm just like, watch, just
- 40:15Speaker 2: watch the motherfucker to go on before me, and the
- 40:19Speaker 2: motherfucker is going after me. It's gonna be a problem
- 40:20Speaker 2: for y'all too, motherfuckers, and probably all night. Like I
- 40:24Speaker 2: just I would just take pride and just going out
- 40:26Speaker 2: there everybody like dancing and DJs and tricks and spinning around.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Shut just walk out there. You don't even got to
- 40:33Speaker 1: introduce me.
- 40:34Speaker 2: I just walked the fuck out there and start rapping,
- 40:36Speaker 2: and the whole crowd is singing every word, and I'm like,
- 40:40Speaker 2: I just rapped. I stopped rapping and just let the
- 40:42Speaker 2: whole house sing it and just tell the crowd to
- 40:44Speaker 2: say shit, and.
- 40:44Speaker 1: They're like, who the fuck are you? And then just
- 40:48Speaker 1: I just you know, keep it real nonchal line. What's
- 40:52Speaker 1: up man? Now? You know player and here from Oakland
- 40:56Speaker 1: kept the lights on a jive man.
- 40:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm one of those aretists who saved the label
- 41:00Speaker 2: one year they had for they had a bad year
- 41:03Speaker 2: and I had a big record.
- 41:04Speaker 3: I just remember, like the only I got that Jive
- 41:07Speaker 3: logo and the way all the CDs kind of looked
- 41:09Speaker 3: the same. I just remember it was you and Forty
- 41:11Speaker 3: would always have the Jive logo on your ship. Like
- 41:13Speaker 3: as a kid, I'm like, yeah, I didn't even know
- 41:15Speaker 3: anybody else will sign.
- 41:16Speaker 2: The jib for a while, well a few people signed
- 41:19Speaker 2: the jib because I was on jive. Yeah, I straight
- 41:22Speaker 2: up like ugk ugk was on jives right because too
- 41:26Speaker 2: Short was on jive.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Wow, that was the only reason. What are studio sessions
- 41:32Speaker 1: in which it's too short and PIMPC? Like in life, PIMPC.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Is serious in the studio, He's very serious, doesn't really
- 41:41Speaker 2: he's not He's not slow by any means.
- 41:44Speaker 1: It happens quick. Pimp C could make beats. He made
- 41:48Speaker 1: a lot of sure, amazing producer.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Pimp C also sings and you hear the song like
- 41:54Speaker 2: it's funky, but just listen, he's in the studio singing
- 41:58Speaker 2: like he's still in the fucking high school quot on
- 42:00Speaker 2: those songs, and he's really putting his all into it.
- 42:03Speaker 2: So PIMC is the kind of motherfucker that come to
- 42:06Speaker 2: the studio and first thing he wanted to do is
- 42:09Speaker 2: smoke some weed. That's that's why we say that on
- 42:11Speaker 2: the songs. He like smoke something like he really would
- 42:14Speaker 2: smoke something.
- 42:14Speaker 1: That's not just a tag. He really would say that.
- 42:17Speaker 1: When he walk in the room, she think we walked
- 42:20Speaker 1: to walk in and smokes something. Man, what's that?
- 42:22Speaker 2: And and he's just immediately it's like, well we making
- 42:25Speaker 2: If it's something on, he's getting involved.
- 42:28Speaker 1: If it's nothing coming through the speakers, he's like, man,
- 42:31Speaker 1: this ship up.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Man.
- 42:32Speaker 2: Let's say he just immediately started kicking out a drum pattern,
- 42:35Speaker 2: put a baseline on it, and he got a hook
- 42:37Speaker 2: for it immediately, and we're making a song. Most I
- 42:40Speaker 2: think most of the songs I haven't made with PIMC,
- 42:42Speaker 2: he's doing the hook because that's wow. That's how it
- 42:44Speaker 2: always went down. He would just he was just quick
- 42:46Speaker 2: like that. And he's also one of those guys who
- 42:52Speaker 2: he's like me in a sense that he's not feeling
- 42:55Speaker 2: lyrically beat you down with this vocabulary and his cadence.
- 43:00Speaker 2: But when he goes into booth and comes out, it's
- 43:04Speaker 2: just fire. Like he I think of that song Murder
- 43:07Speaker 2: with him and bun which is my one. I mean,
- 43:09Speaker 2: I just posted this song like maybe a week ago.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Listening to it, I was like, how is this? It's
- 43:13Speaker 1: two of the best verses ever, but for different reasons,
- 43:15Speaker 1: Like bun Bee.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Was more of the like intricately the lyricist. Yes, but
- 43:19Speaker 3: Pimps ship just hit so two people.
- 43:24Speaker 2: A lot of people can do it, but it's two
- 43:26Speaker 2: people that always distinctively make a record and make you
- 43:31Speaker 2: bounce when you hear it, Like you want to bounce
- 43:33Speaker 2: to the beat.
- 43:33Speaker 1: And the record. A lot of songs producers make.
- 43:37Speaker 2: The beat bounce, but if you like take like MJG
- 43:39Speaker 2: from A B and MG, every time he raps the
- 43:42Speaker 2: fucking beat, just start bouncing.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Same thing with Pimps. Like Little John told me a
- 43:46Speaker 1: secret one day.
- 43:46Speaker 2: He said, I was in the booth rapping and I'm
- 43:51Speaker 2: just rapping to the song, and he like, if you
- 43:55Speaker 2: want the song to bounce, you gotta bounce while you
- 43:58Speaker 2: wrapped the lyrics.
- 44:00Speaker 1: He's like, you ain't in there. Bouncing.
- 44:02Speaker 2: I gotta bounce and do the ship, and now the
- 44:05Speaker 2: lyrics start bounce. He's like, yeah, like that love John
- 44:08Speaker 2: taught me. Taught me some ship in the lab.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I remember we made Shake that Monkey and he
- 44:13Speaker 1: gave me the beat.
- 44:14Speaker 2: There was no hook on it, and I came to
- 44:16Speaker 2: the studio when he wasn't there, and I recorded three
- 44:19Speaker 2: verses with a hook, whole fucking song. Come back the
- 44:24Speaker 2: next day and he and he is there and I
- 44:27Speaker 2: play it for him and I didn't even think. He
- 44:29Speaker 2: let the whole song play. He was like click.
- 44:32Speaker 1: He's like, that's not the idea I have for that beat,
- 44:34Speaker 1: and just goes the hook.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Dumped my ship, and then he goes in. He goes
- 44:40Speaker 2: in there and does the hook, which is him fucking
- 44:44Speaker 2: he's doing. He does like fifty takes and consolidates him
- 44:48Speaker 2: and makes it sound like one hundred people.
- 44:50Speaker 1: And he's like, that's the song. So I went back
- 44:52Speaker 1: to the hotel we were in Miami. I wrote Shake
- 44:56Speaker 1: that Monkey. I came back. He's like, that's the song. Okay, okay.
- 44:58Speaker 2: So that's how we record. Really like working with producers
- 45:01Speaker 2: that produce. I work with a lot of beat makers
- 45:04Speaker 2: who give you a beat, and then I end up
- 45:05Speaker 2: producing it. But I like working with producers who you know,
- 45:10Speaker 2: the jazzy phase and banks, and for producers who tell
- 45:13Speaker 2: you words are cup but the flow is wrong, you know,
- 45:16Speaker 2: or do your voice like this on that part right there,
- 45:19Speaker 2: or switch that line and say that you know, just
- 45:22Speaker 2: a little shit that makes the song better, and they
- 45:25Speaker 2: produce a song. Because I am very much a producer
- 45:28Speaker 2: who doesn't ever really want credit for it. I produced
- 45:32Speaker 2: them near the majority of I produce a lot of
- 45:35Speaker 2: two stresses, a lot a lot I made the beats,
- 45:38Speaker 2: and a lot of the ones that people gave me
- 45:40Speaker 2: the beats, I still went and produced the fucking song.
- 45:42Speaker 2: But I like when I'm working with somebody who's telling
- 45:46Speaker 2: me how to make a song, because I can make
- 45:48Speaker 2: these two short songs all day, but I want the
- 45:50Speaker 2: different flavor by every now and then. I would let
- 45:53Speaker 2: one of the homies write a song for me, Like
- 45:54Speaker 2: why you gotta let a homie write a song so
- 45:56Speaker 2: I have a different flow on certain songs. Every album
- 46:00Speaker 2: I've ever made, I probably let one homie write me
- 46:02Speaker 2: a song just to get a little different shit.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Father Dom wrote some songs for me Dangerous Dame wrote
- 46:08Speaker 1: some songs for me.
- 46:10Speaker 3: You end up putting out this album that's on the desk,
- 46:14Speaker 3: shout to getting it, which it might be my favorite
- 46:16Speaker 3: album of yours. This was supposed to be your last album, right,
- 46:21Speaker 3: was this? This was the retirement album? YEP, album number ten.
- 46:26Speaker 3: Not a lot of rappers had ten albums at that time.
- 46:28Speaker 3: I don't think anybody, dude.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Yeah, because this is ninety six, so that's fuck yeah.
- 46:32Speaker 1: I don't think. I mean ten albums by nineteen ninety
- 46:34Speaker 1: six is insane. Yeah, I don't think anyone artists had
- 46:36Speaker 1: ten albums yet.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Plus you had the Dangerous Coup album, like, by the way,
- 46:38Speaker 3: great album, but you take that that hiatus and then
- 46:43Speaker 3: you come back we Can't Stay Away, which had some
- 46:45Speaker 3: shit jay Z's on that album. I think Jermaine and
- 46:47Speaker 3: Prieze on that album. What brought you to the point
- 46:51Speaker 3: in ninety six to be like this is it, I'm out?
- 46:54Speaker 3: And then take me through those three years where you
- 46:58Speaker 3: get pull pulled back in and you make Can't Stay Away?
- 47:01Speaker 1: Well, it wasn't even about retiring. It was about.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Announcing the retirement. You're thinking you want to do something,
- 47:09Speaker 2: you know, something that rappers don't do.
- 47:12Speaker 1: And I'm like, I know you're the first guy to
- 47:14Speaker 1: fake retire. Yeah, so yeah, master P did it. A
- 47:17Speaker 1: few people did it after, but it was just an idea.
- 47:21Speaker 2: I'm like, I say it on the beginning of the album,
- 47:24Speaker 2: when the song Getting It comes on, I'm like, it's
- 47:25Speaker 2: getting close to the end, y'alls the last album. It's
- 47:28Speaker 2: just bait because I'm talking, I'm talking shit that the
- 47:34Speaker 2: album was supposed to be named album number ten, but
- 47:37Speaker 2: Getting It, Getting It came out so amazing with Parliament
- 47:40Speaker 2: fucking delic They shot the video with and were just like,
- 47:44Speaker 2: you gotta name this album this because it's gonna be
- 47:46Speaker 2: a big record. It's gonna get you more sales, right,
- 47:48Speaker 2: So we compromised an album number ten is in parentheses.
- 47:51Speaker 2: But the whole thing was just popping my college ten albums.
- 47:54Speaker 2: Of those ten albums at this this was about to
- 47:57Speaker 2: be the sixth platinum. So I'm at the time I'm
- 48:00Speaker 2: coming up with this concept. I've already got five platinum
- 48:02Speaker 2: albums and I got like one or two gold albums
- 48:06Speaker 2: at the time, and I'm like, when I announced that
- 48:09Speaker 2: I got ten albums, I retire, I'm the winner. You
- 48:12Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like I'm ahead of everybody in
- 48:16Speaker 2: the count the guy who was like he can't wrap,
- 48:19Speaker 2: the guy who's like he can't do it again.
- 48:21Speaker 1: It's like your victory lap.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Kind of like all the industry, I'm just slapping the whole,
- 48:25Speaker 2: all the haters in the face with actual numbers, like
- 48:28Speaker 2: this is out number ten, This is fucking numbers. So
- 48:32Speaker 2: the kickback was I did a lot of features after this.
- 48:35Speaker 2: I was getting probably like this nineteen mid nineties. I'm
- 48:39Speaker 2: getting you know, forty to fifty even up for a
- 48:42Speaker 2: feature just to come on somebody's album sixteen bars.
- 48:46Speaker 1: And I was my hustle for a while. I was
- 48:47Speaker 1: in New York. I'm doing deals about labels and.
- 48:52Speaker 2: Budgets and shitting fucking it, getting all kind of people
- 48:54Speaker 2: paid and shit and just willing and Dylan.
- 48:57Speaker 1: But it was never any tension of like retiring. The
- 49:01Speaker 1: whole was a marketing ploy.
- 49:03Speaker 2: So what we did with me and Jive Records and
- 49:07Speaker 2: everybody whose mind was working on the campaign was we
- 49:12Speaker 2: literally said too shorts retiring and instantly got the entire
- 49:19Speaker 2: media all across the board to give us free advertising.
- 49:23Speaker 1: And that's exactly we had.
- 49:25Speaker 2: We held a fucking retirement party, heavy media invites. We
- 49:30Speaker 2: held a press conference, heavy Meat, and it.
- 49:33Speaker 1: Just the story went everywhere.
- 49:35Speaker 2: The fucking album came out the box platinum, so that
- 49:38Speaker 2: was that wasn't really a retirement, that.
- 49:40Speaker 3: Was just and then three years later you could do
- 49:42Speaker 3: the opposite two shorts return album.
- 49:44Speaker 1: It gives you a whole other free advertising play like.
- 49:49Speaker 2: And you know, through these different phases of my career,
- 49:53Speaker 2: which I think that was a very big turning point.
- 49:56Speaker 2: Moving to Atlanta was a turning point. Yeah, coming back
- 50:00Speaker 2: in two thousand and four and catching some heat with
- 50:04Speaker 2: Shake that Monkey, and then.
- 50:07Speaker 1: A year later Blow the Whistle, and that just kicked
- 50:09Speaker 1: in a whole new phase.
- 50:11Speaker 2: And you know, and even now, like I feel like
- 50:15Speaker 2: whatever I did before twenty twenty, I dropped the album
- 50:19Speaker 2: called the Fucking Pimp Tape, and the Pimp Tape did
- 50:24Speaker 2: good for me, made me a lot of money. It
- 50:27Speaker 2: was some good looks, you know, some nice little features
- 50:29Speaker 2: and shit. But when the twenty twenties came in, I
- 50:34Speaker 2: started thinking, well, damn, I had a lot of traction
- 50:38Speaker 2: in the eighties, major major run in the nineties, it
- 50:45Speaker 2: was a lot of love for Blow the whistles Shake
- 50:47Speaker 2: that Monkey in early two thousands, the twenty tens, I
- 50:52Speaker 2: was pimping the shit out of Blow the Whistle and
- 50:54Speaker 2: Shake that Monkey forever.
- 50:56Speaker 1: You know, got a little good little look did the
- 50:58Speaker 1: duet album with E forty You also have some like
- 51:01Speaker 1: other Gangsters and Strippers is a classic? Yeah, And I
- 51:03Speaker 1: dropped some underground albums that they vibe.
- 51:06Speaker 3: I was.
- 51:06Speaker 2: I was really doing a lot of a lot of
- 51:08Speaker 2: making a lot of money off off with Empire, off
- 51:11Speaker 2: of just digital only releases, which you know, no matter
- 51:15Speaker 2: where it got to, it got to these pockets, right,
- 51:18Speaker 2: and then the pimp and then you and forty have
- 51:20Speaker 2: this like obviously, yeah, you guys are like putting out
- 51:23Speaker 2: joint albums together, and you guys are synonymous with each other.
- 51:26Speaker 2: The pimp tape comes out, I'm active in the twenty teens,
- 51:29Speaker 2: and then I'm like, Okay, we're doing this thing like
- 51:33Speaker 2: I was naming the E forties in the Fat Joe's
- 51:35Speaker 2: where we're trying to we're trying to write the story
- 51:38Speaker 2: of how old can a rapper be, how long can
- 51:41Speaker 2: he be popular? How who's the oldest guy that's gonna
- 51:43Speaker 2: rock a crowd right stadium? And rap because we look,
- 51:46Speaker 2: what are we looking at? Blues singers and rock and
- 51:49Speaker 2: roll bands and.
- 51:50Speaker 1: Yeah, oh zones are still touring and like Jags Mick
- 51:55Speaker 1: Jaggers seventy eight something like that.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Yeah, if you gave me the Temptations, Diana Ross and
- 52:00Speaker 2: you're going the four Time Show, I'm pulling up. I'm
- 52:02Speaker 2: pulling per So I think that that is my motivation
- 52:07Speaker 2: right now to do this in the twenty twenties, to
- 52:12Speaker 2: be a part of the movie. Drop three albums in
- 52:15Speaker 2: one year, keep doing these big shows. I'm doing really
- 52:18Speaker 2: big crowds every weekend every month.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Yeah you are, You are busy on the road.
- 52:24Speaker 2: And I'll be fifty nine years old this month, and
- 52:28Speaker 2: I'm just like, you can't tell me. You cannot tell me.
- 52:32Speaker 2: Stay home and sit in a rocking chair and tell
- 52:34Speaker 2: old stories about being on tour.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Every time I talk with T. K. Kirkling the other day,
- 52:38Speaker 1: Tk's like, you know he's older as well, he's older
- 52:41Speaker 1: than me. Yeah, he's my homie. Yeah. Tk's like, you know,
- 52:45Speaker 1: this is it's on your mind, you know what I mean?
- 52:47Speaker 1: Like age, Like he's said the same thing.
- 52:49Speaker 3: He's like, no one's gonna tell you know, the rolling
- 52:52Speaker 3: stones to stop touring like exactly.
- 52:54Speaker 1: You know, as long as I got this game, people
- 52:56Speaker 1: will pull up.
- 52:57Speaker 2: So to the other guys that are ogs that are
- 53:00Speaker 2: still pushing forward, I'm just I'm being a part of
- 53:02Speaker 2: that movement. And I don't bash the young artists. I
- 53:07Speaker 2: support them one. I like a lot of the new music.
- 53:10Speaker 2: I think that a lot of stuff back in the
- 53:13Speaker 2: day that we don't remember was garbage, for sure, and
- 53:17Speaker 2: hip hop had a lot of garbage from day one
- 53:20Speaker 2: until this day. And to sit there and be the
- 53:23Speaker 2: kind of og who goes all that new shit is
- 53:26Speaker 2: garbage is a lie because most of that old shit
- 53:29Speaker 2: was garbage. And the ship that rose to the top
- 53:33Speaker 2: was the good shit that we remember, and we call
- 53:35Speaker 2: it the golden era of these certain years, and man,
- 53:38Speaker 2: with old.
- 53:38Speaker 1: School shit was dope, but you forgot all the whack
- 53:42Speaker 1: people that.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Oh God, if I could just go through my crates
- 53:46Speaker 2: of records, I probably stopped buying records in the early nineties.
- 53:50Speaker 2: I can go through my crates and you just be like,
- 53:52Speaker 2: I never heard this garbage because I.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Bought everything that came out. So's it's never changed.
- 53:57Speaker 3: Is there anybody from let's say, like the newer class
- 54:01Speaker 3: of mcs that kind of you have a little bit
- 54:04Speaker 3: like kind of remind you of yourself a little in
- 54:06Speaker 3: terms of just maybe subject matter swagger.
- 54:09Speaker 2: I mean, for a while there, I was seeing the
- 54:11Speaker 2: movement in like YG like too short ish, like I
- 54:14Speaker 2: see it, and he was just you know, he wasn't
- 54:17Speaker 2: trying to be a super lyricist, right, always talking shit,
- 54:20Speaker 2: pull up with all the homies and just be like
- 54:22Speaker 2: y'all can't say shit, and you know it was the
- 54:24Speaker 2: same kind of vibe. But you know, anybody that's spitting
- 54:30Speaker 2: that game is I think that you have DNA hip
- 54:35Speaker 2: hop DNA, and you see it in the rappers.
- 54:40Speaker 1: Sue evolved from jay Z, the ones who evolved from
- 54:43Speaker 1: Lil Wayne, you know what I mean. You see sim
- 54:46Speaker 1: I think Simba.
- 54:46Speaker 3: I mean it's weird to say, cause Simba plays you
- 54:48Speaker 3: in a movie, but Simba, he's like a great MC.
- 54:52Speaker 1: But sometimes Symbol.
- 54:53Speaker 3: Will deliver the most player ill lines in the simplest
- 54:58Speaker 3: way that make people like and he's freestyles.
- 55:00Speaker 1: He got like damn like.
- 55:02Speaker 2: So then you know, the DNA of two short e
- 55:06Speaker 2: forty is like considered to be that bass shit. But
- 55:11Speaker 2: if you take away the geography of it and just
- 55:15Speaker 2: go that game that just I'm Gonna Save Me and.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Forty because it's a lot of people that do it.
- 55:21Speaker 2: But if you take just away like that's a base
- 55:24Speaker 2: shit and just say these two rappers, it's a lot
- 55:28Speaker 2: of hip hop DNA that came from the game that
- 55:31Speaker 2: we spit. And it's a lot of rappers that spit
- 55:34Speaker 2: that game because they grew up on that. Snoop Dogg
- 55:37Speaker 2: is from that lineage, you know, all the way down
- 55:40Speaker 2: to guys like ge Perico, Like it's it's a lot
- 55:43Speaker 2: of them, and they when they sit there and say,
- 55:46Speaker 2: I'm this type of lyricist, this is my look, but
- 55:49Speaker 2: you still from the game. I can hear it when
- 55:51Speaker 2: you rap if all your ship gotta be gamed up,
- 55:54Speaker 2: like like Gwap Dad is a dope ass rapper, but
- 55:57Speaker 2: he gotta he gotta spit.
- 55:58Speaker 1: Game because he comes from the game DNA. And it's
- 56:01Speaker 1: a lot of them.
- 56:03Speaker 2: So you know, even the Russell's hot right now, but
- 56:07Speaker 2: he's spitting game. Listen to the punch lines.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Is and it's real. It's easily consumable. The way he
- 56:13Speaker 1: says shit, you'd be like, oh shit, like why nobody
- 56:17Speaker 1: ever say it that way. But he ain't say nothing
- 56:19Speaker 1: about pimper and hole and selling dope. For sure.
- 56:21Speaker 2: He's still spitting game and that game cloth is. It's
- 56:27Speaker 2: very prevalent in hip hop.
- 56:29Speaker 3: You know.
- 56:29Speaker 1: T I comes from that, ball and G come from that.
- 56:33Speaker 2: It's a lot of motherfuckers that if you if you
- 56:36Speaker 2: from the UGK DNA, then you from the too short DNA,
- 56:40Speaker 2: because that's what UGK.
- 56:41Speaker 1: They wanted to spit game. Like when they seen Born
- 56:44Speaker 1: in Mac.
- 56:45Speaker 2: PIMC said, when I saw that fucking album cover to
- 56:47Speaker 2: Born to Mac, he said, before he even heard the music,
- 56:50Speaker 2: he said, that's what I want to do.
- 56:51Speaker 1: That shit right there.
- 56:52Speaker 3: Yo. It's crazy too because you have your album covers
- 56:56Speaker 3: were so ill like that's one thing about too short, Like, bro,
- 57:00Speaker 3: you got them like first like I don't know, six
- 57:03Speaker 3: seven eight album covers were so fire, like look at.
- 57:07Speaker 1: The first Outcast album, DRE three thousand is wearing a
- 57:10Speaker 1: pimp had. That's some too short ship. Yeah that you know,
- 57:14Speaker 1: they probably said what you want to do.
- 57:15Speaker 2: I just I just put out of I think at
- 57:17Speaker 2: the game where you fit in with the pimp had
- 57:20Speaker 2: And then I was I was putting it in the
- 57:22Speaker 2: videos too. I was wearing the pimp hat driving in
- 57:23Speaker 2: the Cadillac. Motherfuckers like I want that.
- 57:26Speaker 3: Short dogs in the house with the cartoon and illustration.
- 57:29Speaker 3: That was before doggie style, right, Yeah.
- 57:32Speaker 2: Snoop Dogg's first album cover is very reminiscent of one
- 57:35Speaker 2: of my album covers.
- 57:36Speaker 1: And you know, I mean you were the first dog
- 57:39Speaker 1: to Snoop dog You know what I mean? You know
- 57:44Speaker 1: it was that's my guy. Of you guys did a
- 57:47Speaker 1: album to guy.
- 57:48Speaker 2: As we became friends, I was kind of thrown off
- 57:51Speaker 2: early on, but then we became really good friends.
- 57:54Speaker 3: What was that a thing cognitive like cognitzant of that?
- 57:56Speaker 3: I can't see the word, but were you like cognizant?
- 58:00Speaker 1: I mean they were saying beach Snoop Dog, Well, I'm
- 58:04Speaker 1: short dog. It was you're from l A. You know
- 58:06Speaker 1: y'all say bit like from the start, I took it
- 58:09Speaker 1: as flattering. And I also the level of how it
- 58:14Speaker 1: blew up is Doctor dre Is Death Road is blowing up.
- 58:18Speaker 1: I'm like, this ship is helping me. There's no way
- 58:21Speaker 1: I'm going to rock the boat and say, man, them
- 58:24Speaker 1: dude's over there stole my ship. Whatever, Like they I
- 58:27Speaker 1: immediately saw for what it was. But when he told
- 58:30Speaker 1: me then I knew. I knew I was right. Like
- 58:34Speaker 1: he said, he said, man, we grew up listening to
- 58:38Speaker 1: two show.
- 58:39Speaker 2: They was probably like middle school, bumping that ship and
- 58:42Speaker 2: fucking he like they put me in the studio. I
- 58:45Speaker 2: started rapping and just said bitch like I'm like, I
- 58:49Speaker 2: get it. I mean, you know, Ice Cube said it
- 58:52Speaker 2: at one point he was doing a I think it
- 58:55Speaker 2: was a bitch as a bitch.
- 58:56Speaker 1: He gets it. End the song, he just yell out bitch.
- 58:58Speaker 2: I think he's the first person that said it outside
- 59:00Speaker 2: of me, And people go, why didn't you trade market?
- 59:03Speaker 1: Why don't you make people have to actually permission to
- 59:05Speaker 1: say it.
- 59:05Speaker 2: I'm like, it wouldn't be an iconic pop thing if
- 59:09Speaker 2: I controlled it and said I'm the only one that
- 59:10Speaker 2: could do it.
- 59:11Speaker 1: It's a gift to the world. When I heard.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Comedians do it, I seen I saw sitcoms doing it,
- 59:17Speaker 2: it just became something that everybody knew. You got to
- 59:21Speaker 2: give a lot of credit to Snoop Dogg for helping
- 59:26Speaker 2: put that out there in the universe. And then I
- 59:30Speaker 2: think when I say what's my favorite word and blow
- 59:33Speaker 2: the whistle. That kind of solidifies my ownership. I really
- 59:38Speaker 2: said that in the song because I overheard a conversation
- 59:40Speaker 2: one day. You have an album called that, yeah, and
- 59:44Speaker 2: I really was on that I'm not gonna let this
- 59:47Speaker 2: get away from me. I heard a conversation one day
- 59:50Speaker 2: that I was not involved in, and they were saying, bitch,
- 59:56Speaker 2: that's the Snoop Dogg shit. And somebody was like, no,
- 59:59Speaker 2: true Short been saying that, and it was like, no, bro,
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: I don't know who the fuck too Short is that
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Snoop Dogg shit. And I'm like, Okay, I gotta get
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: my shit back. I just started doing stuff like name
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: the album, say it.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: In a single. Just just give me my shit back
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: a little bit.
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: I don't care it belongs to the world, right, No,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: but I mean in hip hop it like it's your thing.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: But me and Freddie B came with that, and Lone
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: before us, there was a guy named Rudy Raymore Dolomite
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: who was in movies yelling.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: Out the bitch lone before us Dolomite. So I remember
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: Dolomite doing skits sound like some Snoop albums and shit.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: So yeah, So I'm not the inventor. But you know
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: I put my touch on it. He yelled at in
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: a few movies, so you know, we give we give
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: the credit to Dolomite.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: What has been the craziest blow the Whistle moment for you?
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: Where you were like, this is insane. I mean, obviously
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: it gets played everywhere. Fucking Jay's He's got a classic.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: For a lot of viral clips, a lot of viral
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: clips that are funny as fuck. With Blow the Whistle,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: it's like, no matter if you got if you got
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: a Grandma, you.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: Got a I could do top ten viral. It's just
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: moments with the song. But I mean the one that
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: a clip that I can think of that stands out.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: I actually heard the story without singing the clip multiple times,
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: and it's the one about babies. There's a clip I
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: saw where a baby is watching Blow the Whistle video
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: and the mom turns it off and the baby cries.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: She turns it on, the baby smiles, turns it off,
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: cry And people actually have told me that story multiple
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: times that Blow the Whistle is the song I play
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: for my baby and to cheer cheer up the baby.
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: And I think that if you had to go scientifically
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: on that song. It is hitting those notes. It's something
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: in the vibration can soothe, is hit no notes and
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: it actually it's probably one of the only songs I
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: ever had that the grandmother's and the grand babies like
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: so you.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: Just got new life to When the Eagles won the
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: Super Bowl, they adopted it as their song, and.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: Some people out there thought it was a new song.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it was just so random because you see you
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: see Gilly just turning up to blow the whistle.
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: Believe me, I thanked him personally appreciate it. Yeah, it's
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: just it's good vibrations.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: And it's who asked me this ship one day?
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: Oh, Jermaine dupre ASTs me. We were at a club
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: this many years ago in Vegas and he knew Little
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: John produced it because that's his boy. They're like really close, right,
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: And he said, man, I just want to ask. She
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: was like, what the fuck did you and Little John
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: put in that song?
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Like, like what was the ingredients? Like, I don't know, bro,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: listen to it.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: As basic as fuck, Like as basic as fuck the production,
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: it ain't a lot going on, Yeah.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: But it's it's infectious.
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: Man, It's it's just me and dj A men talk
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: about the ship all the time when we're like, what's
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: like the West Coast national anthem and like that includes
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: la that I'm just the entire West Coast and it's
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: it's I just you know, he's got his Bay Area bias.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: But I think it's blowla whistle. I was like, I
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: think it's if you just think.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: Of the national anthem for the West Coast, obviously there's like,
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: you know, nothing but a g thing, and you know
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: there's records, but blow the Whistle's done it.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: And I feel like me and forty have a.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Lifelong friendly competition where it's okay to talk ship to
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: each other, it's okay to critique and help each other.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: And I wasn't keeping.
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: Tabs, but obviously he was, Oh he's yeah, I'm sure
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: he's keeping tabs of.
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: Tell me when to go versus bull the whistles. A
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: lot of fans figure trying to figure that out. Another debate,
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: and I.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: Forget what his logic was, but recently he said, all right, bro,
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: you won, you won, you won something.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: He got it.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: If we talked to him, he'll tell us what his
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: logic was. But that's funny, you know, they they both
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: took a long time to go platinum. They've officially platinum,
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: but something he has some mathematical.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Equation where it blow the whistle one.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: I don't know. Yeah, it's interesting you are when I'm
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: a kid. My picture of who you are is too short,
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: scy one hundred bitches around him at all times, he's
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: just fucking fighting bitches off of sticks. If you had
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: to estimate not to get into your first what would
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: you say, is your body count well, Chamberlain like, because
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: you also have a song.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: About nineteen nine bitches. Yes, that was s must be
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: a funny song.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: It was hilarious, by the way. It was great with
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: the animated videos.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: So two short is a character that I made up,
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: and I don't think a lot of women would really
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: appreciate too Short per se. I've never tried to be
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: that way with women in real life. Yeah, all that
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: bit shit and some my dick bits, and I don't
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: do that. I played kind of the opposite a lot.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Of times, like really like Todd is a different guy.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Really like gentlemen. But now when you get over to
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Todd Shaw, I've always even before I was famous, I
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: always had like girlfriends and just like cute girlfriends, and
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: they was like, you ugly motherfucking fuck up teeth, how
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: you get all these cute girls?
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: And it was just always the game. I learned it
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: at a young age. And people come and say, well,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: what's the count, what's the count? I'm just like, it
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: ain't no count.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: You know what it is like literally, Like you talked
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: to some of the people that roll with me over
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: the years, I'm super low key with everything these days,
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: but for fucking about a.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Thirty year run, I had a bit of two or
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: three or four with me.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: At all times, like falsely wake up, everywhere we go,
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: going to lunch, go to the barbershop, it's bitch in
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: the car, Like I just I just love to be
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: around beautiful women. So whether I would be fucking her
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: or not, I'm like, let's go run around for a day,
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: let's hang out for the next three days, just whatever.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: And I had a lot of female friends who fucking
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: dine pieces, who would stay with me, pack up shit
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: and just stay with me, and we would never even
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: have sex. But while I'm with her, i'd probably fuck
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: another girl and she'd just be helping me or cheering
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: me on to.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Some bringer hold me through, just like, what was the
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: most amount of women you've been with it? Once? I
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: guess I can answer that. One man never like talking
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: about this kind of ship. But I figured, like.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: I figured, like in one night I had over and
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: over and over again all night with like four chicks,
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: and just it was just me, not having a fivesome,
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: but just all night, all morning, however long, just anytime
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: I wanted to just hit any one of the four.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: And you know, it's not really like anything to brag,
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: not anything to brag on, because at some point it
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: becomes a burden on the individual who's supposedly, you know,
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: trying to pull this feet off. It's not it's your
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: tall task, yes, because but I was. I tell you
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: one thing that that that kind of shook me up
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: a little bit. They got they got to a point,
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: it's many many years ago that I would do my
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: little bragging and whatnot.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: I would be like, oh, you see her over there,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: I hit that one time, two times or whatever, and.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: Some some a group of like super bad bitches walked
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: into a club or wherever we were one night and
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: I told my homie, I said, I fucked all four
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: of them. Not at the same time, Like over years,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: I fucked all four of them, And he said, you
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: ever thought that maybe they fucked you?
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: And I'm like, like what, they passed me around. He's
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: like maybe maybe.
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: I'm like, damn, hey, because that's that's how you would
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: look at it. If one girl fucked your whole crew,
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: you'd be like, yeah, we passed her around, like you're
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: the whole grow I'm like, dang, the look at They
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: might have looked at you the same way.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: One of them told him it was cool, and then
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: the other one tried and they spread me around over.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: They passed me around.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: So you know, when you think about that and you
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: wake up after a night of like letting four women
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: have their way with you, and then you see another
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: group of four women that you had over a period
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: of time and they're all friends.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: It's not a good feeling, bro. It's not a good feeling.
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: Like if I was a pimp and those are my
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: ex holes, so I'd be like, yeah, a bit, just
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: got money for me. But that wasn't the case. So
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: you know, after a while, I started being a little more.
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: I was a rock star at a young age. I
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: did that shit.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: I probably went on three tours and just was a
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: fucking horror. But yeah, I mean that's that was kind
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: of the game back.
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: But I've also been in love and had long stretches
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: of not being a whole right, So I love life.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: I enjoyed it, and I think I remember I was
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: like hitting thirty and I was like, I just want
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: to be a fun motherfucker for a while.
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: I don't want to, man, you gotta settle down. You
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: ain't you get thirty nine. I just kind of want
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: to be fun for a little while. Over this is fun,
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: So I just have fun.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: Which you have really three chapters of your career, but
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: I would say like two definitive chapters. And it's really
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: it's really like, you know, the eighties up until it's
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: called it like oh one two or whatever. But then
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: you have this other era where the hyphie movement comes in.
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: You start working with different, different sounding production. You get
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: you know, there she goes slide down the pole and
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: gangsters and strippers and.
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: I'm the log I'm forty years old, yeah, forty something.
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: And all these records that like don't sound like old,
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: too short, but there they make you like they like
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: you said it earlier, like blow the Whistle gave you
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: career relevance forever, but like it. You have this whole
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: library of songs from the last twenty years that don't
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: sound anything like getting It.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Don't you know that song don't act like a bitch? Yeah?
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: I gave that song to E forty. That song came
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: from the Trunk Boys. The Trunk Boys had the song,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: same hook, everything.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: And the shit fifty seven got on right. Yeah.
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: The Trunk Boys is local group from the Bay and
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: they wanted to get me on a verse for a remix.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: So the producer who made the song was like, when
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: we first made it, it was made for too short
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: to get on it. So I did the remix with them,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: and some time went by, everybout a year or so,
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: and I just kept really feeling like that song was something,
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: and I got E forty to get on it, and
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: Forty was like, I want to put this on my album.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: So I called the Trunk Boys.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, forty wants to put a version out
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: with just me and him, but because it's your song,
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: both of us are going to give you guys a
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: free verse on whatever you want. And there was a
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: lot of little little drama with the song, but we
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: did it. It comes out it instantly, it hit now,
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: mind you, this was this was a song from there
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: mixtape two years before we dropped it.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: And then fifty gets on it. They probably feel even
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: more like, what the fuck fifties, even though we both
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: gave them verses? They had nine members in the group,
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: probably like it's a real barrier wang right there.
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: Yeah, like five was cool and four was like, fuck that,
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: that's our song, you know what. The forty brought them
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: out on stage. We did a lot of I really
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: appreciate that the young homies, you know, let me do that.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: But they had mixed emotions about it, and I understand
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: the whole way. But that is a big record for
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: E forty.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and I just literally go, here's a song, and
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: that's how we get down. Though. What is like your
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: favorite era?
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: Though? But if you had to say the two when
- 1:12:20Speaker 3: if you divide your career kind of in half, I mean,
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: you're kind of doing it with this new series a bit.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: Okay, so early on we're just like kids, you know,
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: twenty twenty one. I even had an early career too,
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: Like I was pretty fucking famous in the Bay before
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: I coore jump out, and I was doing shows and
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: having a ball and living the rap life. But when
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: I go on tour, I was on the straight out
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: of the Compton tour with NWA. Easy hit me up,
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: you want to go, I'm going on tour.
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: You want to go? Hell yeah, I want to go.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: So I go on tour with them, and DC's on
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: tour above the Laws on the tour. JJ FADDs on
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: the tour and I'm a fucking instant rock star.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: Is that the tour hosted?
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the comedian coming out in between all the acts.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: Nineteen eighty nine and I'm a fucking rock star day
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: and night, every day. Even when the tour ends, you know,
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: I'm still doing my two shirt show. I'm a fucking
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: rock star.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: Next year, ice Cube is no longer in n WA.
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: He drops then album. He wants to go on tour.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: Me and him became really good friends on the Struggle
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: after tour, so we go out co headline of tour,
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: fucking rock star.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: I The next year, Spice.
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: One gets hot. Spice One, man, you know, I'm on
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: like third platinum Altum, Like, let's go out.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Me and Spice One go.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Out fucking rock star also on drive right, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: because of me by way of you know, this is
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: just the affiliation.
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: But that was a lot of fun, fucking fun. They're
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: talking about like five years of just fuck it man,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: also having fun without having to worry about the social media.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Yeah at a page, I've called you back if I
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: feel like you know. And I think that stands out,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: just that run of just being young, not having it
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: and not knowing better almoment, not having to call nobody.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: You know, I didn't have a girlfriend. I was just
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: like floating and that was a fun run.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: But then later on, I'm well established, I know how
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: to move around. I got the right people around me.
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: I always had good people around me. But I'm seasoned,
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: and now I.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Get this run with blow the whistle and shake that monkey.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I literally.
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: Started doing a hustle or I was like, if it's
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: Monday through Thursday, you can give me five six seven grand,
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: I'll come to.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Your club and rap, blow the whistle and shake that
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: monkey and leave.
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: And I would do two three clubs in the night,
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: like I would. I would make a lot of money
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: on the weekends, but I would make a lot of
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: money during the week just walking in the clubs and
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: we're having fun, like set me up at a table bottles,
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: and it just looked like I'm out there just balling
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: everywhere I get on.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: The mic, rock and shit.
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: So I did that ship for probably fucking ten years,
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: and that got me through the recession. The recession hit
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: I'm partying and shit ain't really like on my a
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: game on, like you know, my multiple hustles clicking. Shit
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: caught it caught the motherfucker off guard. I'm talking like
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: eight oh no concert, shit slowed down, motherfucker start penny pinsion.
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: But these two songs allowed me to go make fucking
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: twenty grand a week, you know, fucking around if I go,
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: you know, or.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: More just doing walk through. They called them to walk through,
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: like the cheap ass promoter.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: Sure that didn't really want to you know, you want
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: to put out the flyer too short live, but I'm
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: really only going to sing two songs and they call
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: it to walk through.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: The walk through was cool. I don't really do them
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: shits no more, but that was a fun erra though,
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: I like not really I was doing.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: Shows, the real show, but this this little floating around
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: the West coast or wherever popping up. I'm gonna go
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: to Scottsdale as a forty something, you're a rapper, and
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: shit was fun and it's like I'm every time I'm
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: doing this to this very day. The census is you're
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: supposed to be expired. Bro, Like, you're not supposed to
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: be in Seattle last night rocking twenty thousand people like,
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: what the fuck are you doing?
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: I'm like, can't stop me.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: So you guys dropped Mount Wesmore, which you guys did
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: a dope run on the road with that.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: I think it.
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: I would would you say that a lot like the
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: fans might have been a little little disappointed with the album.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: I think that people don't know for bosses, four egos,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: for different sound, four busy schedules, it was a very
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: small window of everybody on the same page.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: And literally what I think happened was we did a
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: lot of shit, a lot of songs, a lot of
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: putting together the project, and then it started getting a
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: little too close to the Snoop Dogg super Bowl.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: Appearance and stoops on his crypto wave try to do
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: the NFT. He just shit started happening, And I think
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: that the schedules, the schedules started clashing to where it
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: would have been a tour, it would have been all
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: this other ship, and time just ran out where that
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: window of everybody on the same page, it just kind
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: of ran out.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: That's that's my personal opinion. I'm sure you will get
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: four different answers if all four of us.
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: I think I talked to Cube about it. He caun't
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: pretty much share the same sentiment.
- 1:18:06Speaker 3: But we have.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: Another album and a half worth of music that sounds
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: really fucking good, and everybody's I send a little sarcastic
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: text messages in the group text every now and then
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: because I'm like, I'm like, I know, you guys are
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: all rich and busy and shit, but we got this
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: dope ass album laying around, Like, let's come up with
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: a scheme, any kind of scheme. You don't have to
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: put the album out. We could just start putting singles out.
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: Let's just do what the fuck this goodass music laying around.
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: And I always started off like, I'm like, you guys
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: are just too fucking rich to Yeah.
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: Cube just got his ship out right, Yeah, God the
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: Missionary came out, so maybe you know, but it's like
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: you said, everybody's too fucking rich, to.
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: Busy too they give a fuck. So I think.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: I think that at some point the fans are gonna
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: hear it. I think that the album that came out
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: would have been worked if it came out a little sooner.
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: Yeah, and then you guys also did like an NFT
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: release on it first, which is kind of weird.
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: But then you gotta flip to the positive side because
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: I did an album with Snoop Dogg E forty and Ice.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: Can you did a tour?
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: And I promise you, I would promise you that Mount
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: Westmore made millions of dollars.
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: No matter where you think of landed. They they they
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: have so many deals intact that it was.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: It was a very good It was very good for everybody.
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: It was great, and it would have been we actually,
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: and I've never been involved with anything like this in
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: my life. We turned down like fucking like a twenty
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: million dollar tour or some shit that was only probably
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: like fucking it was only it wasn't twenty shows.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: It was you were You were probably like about, who
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: the fuck does this are we voting on this? Because
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: if so?
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: So, yeah, it's that kind of And I know I'm
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: like I'm in is super group, and I'm like, it's
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: not the kind of situation where you try to boss
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: up because everybody's a fucking boss.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: So it's like, we just got to work together, find
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: the compromise. Find I took the role in the group.
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: I'm like, I will go through all kind of links
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: of making sure the music is organized and all the
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: files are in the right place, and all the songs
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: get ready for whoever's gonna mix them in. Every everybody's
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: verse gets turned in and put in the same session
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: and all this shit. But I'm not gonna fucking come
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: up with the marketing plan. I'm not telling you motherfuckers
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: when the tour. I'm not picking the merch company. I
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: ain't doing none of that shit because all you boss
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: motherfuckers know everything.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: I'm like, y'all know everything. Just just my job is
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: the music, So let me organize everything. Yeah, so that's
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: what I did, get the sessions together. All that forty
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: was our number one beat picker. It sounds like it.
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: He calls this of a beat picker.
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: That actually makes a lot of sense hearing it. Yeah,
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: you know the thing you're talking about Oakland. A little
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: bit earlier, you know, obviously the Bays crazy place right now,
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: the Bipping is out of control. You know, it's a
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: pretty wild place. You recently lost your brother earlier this year.
- 1:21:22Speaker 3: I currently imagine you're still mourning that loss.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: How you feeling man like? I mean that that was
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: in January, you know where, Yeah, when you.
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: Lived the life that we lived, Me, my brothers, some
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: of the homies. You know, we we've survived a lot
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: of shit. And not not like I was wilding in
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: the streets selling dope and drugs, but I've been in
- 1:21:49Speaker 2: the streets a lot of my life. And when you
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: in that environment, that chance is always there. I've been around.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Dozens of shootings.
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: I caldn't even count how many times I've been around
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: when somebody started shooting very close to where we're at.
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: I've been in situations where close friends of mine were
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: sworn that they were going to murder each other and
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: we were all good friends, and they're like, kill that
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: motherfucker when I see him. And I've been around, you
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: know a lot of situations where we had to bury
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: the homies. You know, we grew up and we started
- 1:22:25Speaker 2: burying the homies kids through violence. And you just think
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: that My brother was about to be sixty two, and
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: you just think that you made it past that shit.
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: You know, I try to stay out the way. A
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: lot of og say I try to stay out the way,
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: but how far out the way is out the way?
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: Because what happened to him came to find him. He
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: wasn't out in no bullshit. It came to where he's
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: always at. He didn't move around a lot, and you know,
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: he was just defending the spot where he was at.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: So you know, I know how it all went down.
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: It's some township.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: It was.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: It was some ship that you know. It's just it's
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: the town bro like it's and.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: Uh, you just gotta deal with it. You gotta deal
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: with it, and however the way, however which way you
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: want to deal with it.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: I have received so many blessings from Oakland, California, that
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: I can't blame.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: The city for what happened. It's not it's not Oakland's fault.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: The environment whatever created the problem that caused that. But
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: I don't blame Oakland, not the Oakland that I love.
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: And somebody worded it to me in a way that
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: that sticks with me. And they just said to me
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: they said, this town we love can really be mean sometimes,
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: and it really can, and it can really be fun
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: and really educational, and you know, it's revolutionary, and there's
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: a lot of shit. So I just think that sixty
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: one years gun down, that's that's an anomaly. It's not
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: not a real normal thing. So you know, it's just
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: some shit that happened. And you know, my brother was
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: the kind of person who I talked. I talked to
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: a lot of people about this shit. Like somebody rammed
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: a car into the garage door, and he went out
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: there pistol in hand to go see what happened, and
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: he as they were shooting at him, he was shooting
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: at them.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: Most of us would have the same gun that he had.
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: Somebody would ram that garage door, and we might probably
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: probably try to be sort of strategic and like, well,
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: if this motherfucker comes in, I'm gonna be behind here.
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: And you know, but my brother he runs out shooting.
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: That's that's that was him. And we all, all of
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: us that know and love him, was like, what else was.
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: He gonna do? That's him?
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: You know I could have told him a million times, Bro,
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: you got all these angles in the building, probably when
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: they come in the door.
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: But he ain't think like that, So you know, I
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: don't I don't mourn him in a way that this
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: was a sad thing that happened. It was some township.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: It could have happened that anybody, you know, And it's
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: just like I just I just I wrestled with the
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: part about the age. I'm like Dad, we made it
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: past it.
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: We talked so much about all the homies, about surviving,
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: about doing it right, about not doing stupid shit, and
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: then this happened. So you know, I got a lot
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: of a lot of love. I don't know how you
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: would feel about it, but a lot of people reached
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: out just to you know, just to acknowledge what happened,
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: and a lot of people that knew him, and a
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: lot of people that knew me, and you know, shit,
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: it was very impactful.
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: In the industry, Like it just yeah, a lot of
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: people to your brother, because remember talking a few folks
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: from the Bay and not you know, he had a
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: lot of friends that were my friends. He had a
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: lot of high regard people that he knew that I
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: didn't even know.
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: So I'm just getting shipped from everywhere. He also lived
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: in Atlanta with me, So we had a lot of
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: friends out there. Uh, you know, then my whole life,
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: a lot of people in LA family.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: Right, so yeah, you know L R. P. Wayne Lowe
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: for sure. All right, So this album is coming out
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: next Friday, the first of four three three part serious three. Okay,
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: that's well.
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: You know why I said that, because you told me
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: you were doing the double album Little John, or you
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: did two albums.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: Well, the Little John will come out and there will
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: be sorry, a bunch of reserve songs.
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: In my head, I'm putting the Little.
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: John extra songs in the same folder as the unreleased
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: Mount Wes Moore song. Got it And I just listened
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: to him, love him, keep them to myself, playing with people,
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: riding in my car.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: They like, put this ship out. I hear that so much.
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: You don't put this ship out.
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: Listen, man, you were one of the greatest rappers of
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: all time. I appreciate you sitting down and uh, I
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: can't wait to hear the new ship because yeah.
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: We're stretching the the age limit. We're swimming, floating off
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: into the uncharted waters of hip hop.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: How far can this go? How far can you extend?
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: How long can you extend it? Do you do you
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: still keep in contact with Hove at all? Or is
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: that somebody who like because he seems like such an
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: unreachable Well, we never were telephone buddies. Okay, so you guys,
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: you guys, just it was just a work relationship. Yeah,
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: you get to the sixty second was a yeah, what's up, hey,
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: I got something for you. I'm gonna say it your way.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: It's always a you know, a you know, a salute
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: when you see him. A lot a lot of us
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: are like that. Man.
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: It's you know, we don't choose the prior into each
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: other's personal lives, but when I see you, what's up, hommy?
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: Well look listening to the album on the eighteenth pre
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: order it new single coming this week, still macking, still macking, man.
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: I'm happy to hear aunt bass on.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: I brought the Cadillac back to I re whipped the Cadillac.
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: I called the homies in Alabama, spokes and vogues, and
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: they built me a white on white on white Cadillac.
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: First I had the black so like similar to the
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: Born to Mac car. Yeah, same car, oh, same car,
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: same car, not the exact same same model, same year
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: or whatever.
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: Yeah, then I took that one, made it three times burgundy,
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: and now we're all white.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: I love triple white. There it is, man short, dog
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: too short. I appreciate you, bro, for sure. There it
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: is
