- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, my friends. It is Jeff here from the
- 0:02Speaker 1: psc podcast show. We wanted to let you know. This
- 0:04Speaker 1: podcast episode was recorded on Wednesday, July thirty first, twenty
- 0:08Speaker 1: twenty four. By the time you hear this, some things
- 0:10Speaker 1: may have changed here or there, but we hope you
- 0:12Speaker 1: enjoyed the show. Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show,
- 0:49Speaker 1: the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world,
- 0:52Speaker 1: eleven years strong. We got a great show coming to
- 0:55Speaker 1: you this week. We got some Phillies talk as this
- 0:57Speaker 1: team made some acquisitions before the trade deadline. We're gonna
- 1:01Speaker 1: get into some Summer Olympics talk as well, what event
- 1:05Speaker 1: we would love to participate in. And then from there
- 1:09Speaker 1: Sixers Nation, we should say, the Sixers team. You know,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Sixers Nation is waiting to see whether or not the
- 1:14Speaker 1: Philadelphia seventy six ers are gonna have a new arena
- 1:16Speaker 1: at some point down the road, perhaps in the two
- 1:19Speaker 1: thy thirties. May not actually happen. At this point, things
- 1:23Speaker 1: have stalled. And then we're gonna get into a ton
- 1:26Speaker 1: of Eagles talk as we're in the midst of training camp.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Warren. I'm here at my good buddy Eric Leonard.
- 1:31Speaker 1: How are things going, Eric.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Uh, not bad. It's it's that weird like part of
- 1:38Speaker 2: summer where it's coming to the end for the kids.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I haven't been on a vacation because I just started
- 1:43Speaker 2: a new job. Kind of just I'm just kind of
- 1:47Speaker 2: the air kind of right now, you know, the middle aged. Yeah,
- 1:50Speaker 2: I'll be forty eight soon and like, oh, that's right,
- 1:52Speaker 2: A birthday's coming up.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah, got Eric's birthday coming up? Folks. Oh, forty eight,
- 1:58Speaker 1: Holy kay? You know, a it does look a day
- 2:01Speaker 1: over thirty five.
- 2:04Speaker 2: You know, it's crazy like you were at my thirtieth birthday.
- 2:07Speaker 2: We threw a huge thing in harrisburg Ley. Yes, like
- 2:09Speaker 2: sixty seventy people and it was it was a black
- 2:13Speaker 2: you know. Some people will say it feels like it
- 2:15Speaker 2: was just yesterday. No, it feels like it feels like
- 2:18Speaker 2: a long time ago.
- 2:18Speaker 1: It does feel like a long time ago.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, we've got we've.
- 2:22Speaker 1: We've lived a lot of life since then, for sure.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I know.
- 2:27Speaker 1: All right, well, let's get into this show here, because
- 2:29Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, Eric, I had a bad feeling
- 2:32Speaker 1: coming out of the All Star break that we were
- 2:34Speaker 1: going to be seeing some garbage from the Phillies because
- 2:36Speaker 1: that All Star Break really just stopped the momentum that
- 2:40Speaker 1: this team had. They continue to drop series here. Things
- 2:44Speaker 1: are just snowballing for this team, and not in a
- 2:47Speaker 1: good way. They have been playing their worst baseball the
- 2:49Speaker 1: season since coming back from the All Star Break. As
- 2:52Speaker 1: we know, they've made some trades I think to help
- 2:55Speaker 1: this team, and I think at some point these trades
- 2:57Speaker 1: will help this team. How helpful will they be? But
- 3:01Speaker 1: it's we'll get into the trades. But man, it has
- 3:03Speaker 1: been disheartening watching this team on a nightly basis, especially
- 3:06Speaker 1: as the Yankees absolutely just murdered them. And look, they
- 3:10Speaker 1: got a West Coast trip coming up that is gonna
- 3:13Speaker 1: be tough. The Seattle Mariners, They've got the Dodgers, the Diamondbacks.
- 3:17Speaker 1: These are tough teams that they're going to be facing.
- 3:20Speaker 1: And I think that if they continue to have a
- 3:22Speaker 1: slump here, things in the NLS could really take a
- 3:27Speaker 1: turn for the worse for this team.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I think last week I said on the show that
- 3:33Speaker 2: my uh my concern levels out of three. I didn't
- 3:37Speaker 2: think it was a swoon. I think it was just
- 3:39Speaker 2: kind of a step back.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, We're we're.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I'm at about I'm at about an eight right now. Yeah,
- 3:45Speaker 2: and I feel a swoon coming.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'm scared.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a little scared that that that that getting
- 3:53Speaker 2: your as by the Yankees after they made a bunch
- 3:55Speaker 2: of deals that we're a lot splashier than our deals.
- 4:00Speaker 2: That was a punch to the face. There was footage
- 4:03Speaker 2: of Yankee fans punching Phillies fans after games, and I
- 4:05Speaker 2: was just like, wow, man, maybe it is like we're
- 4:09Speaker 2: the top dog and teams are coming at us right
- 4:11Speaker 2: now and I'm very disheartening series for them and you
- 4:15Speaker 2: and you're right, the upcoming schedule is like it's it's
- 4:18Speaker 2: not any easier. The Dodgers got much better with all
- 4:21Speaker 2: the moves they made, and you kind of want to,
- 4:25Speaker 2: you kind of want to go into their buildings in
- 4:28Speaker 2: La and Arizona and like kind of beat them up
- 4:30Speaker 2: a little bit, like send a message. But right now
- 4:33Speaker 2: we are in zero position to be doing that. I mean,
- 4:36Speaker 2: I pulled there. I was looking at the Phillies pre
- 4:39Speaker 2: all start break and post all start break right stats. Yeah,
- 4:44Speaker 2: the pitching, the pitching is, I mean, the offense is.
- 4:47Speaker 2: The offense is sputtering. The pitching is awful. Offensively there,
- 4:51Speaker 2: they're forty points below their average from the first half
- 4:55Speaker 2: YEAP too sixty in the first half and two thirty
- 4:57Speaker 2: so far. OPS is down to six eight six eighty one.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It was seven to fifty five. The offense has really
- 5:04Speaker 2: falling off. And then pitching wise, these are all just
- 5:07Speaker 2: like combined pitching starters in and relievers. But man, the
- 5:12Speaker 2: whip is up twenty two twenty two points.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Wow.
- 5:17Speaker 2: The era is four six eight over three four one
- 5:19Speaker 2: the first half before the before the the All Star Game.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So it's not just it's everybody, it's every facet of
- 5:25Speaker 2: the team is like really really just just off and
- 5:29Speaker 2: like they and the team doesn't have that. I know
- 5:32Speaker 2: a lot of it comes from home runs and wins,
- 5:34Speaker 2: and they could that's how they kind of get all
- 5:37Speaker 2: jacked up. It's just kind of they're kind of just
- 5:39Speaker 2: not it's they're they're approaching swoon territory. And then part
- 5:45Speaker 2: of it is that enthusiasm that's just just I don't
- 5:48Speaker 2: see it right now.
- 5:49Speaker 1: At the end of the day, this team is let
- 5:52Speaker 1: the certain aspects of this team, whether it's a hitting
- 5:53Speaker 1: of the pitching, they're letting each other down. This is
- 5:56Speaker 1: a season when where the pitching has been faltering, the
- 6:00Speaker 1: bats are able to help come alive and get this
- 6:04Speaker 1: team where it needs to be get wins. And when
- 6:06Speaker 1: the bats are cold at times, the pitching is stepped up.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Nobody is doing that at all at this point. Nobody's
- 6:12Speaker 1: doing that. This team is in a big hole at
- 6:15Speaker 1: the moment, and it seems to be some problems in
- 6:18Speaker 1: house that I'm not sure that a huge splash at
- 6:20Speaker 1: the trade deadline would have solved for this team, Eric,
- 6:23Speaker 1: because you got Bryce Harper, who he's now, I mean
- 6:27Speaker 1: as I mean last night after the second Yankees game,
- 6:30Speaker 1: he was like two of twenty nine at the plate.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Totally unacceptable. Bryce and Scott has been extremely disappointing as well.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And again, if I had to put a grade on
- 6:41Speaker 1: these trades that were made and the acquisitions, I would
- 6:44Speaker 1: actually give it like a C plus or a B minus.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I mean, they held onto their top prospects in the
- 6:48Speaker 1: farm system, and I think that's something we should keep
- 6:50Speaker 1: in mind as we transition to talking about these trades.
- 6:54Speaker 1: But again, this team, they're not helping each other out
- 6:57Speaker 1: at all. They're letting each other down night after night.
- 7:00Speaker 1: There's no cohesion. They need a spark, and I'm not
- 7:04Speaker 1: sure Austin Hayes, Carlos Estevez, Tanner Banks are going to
- 7:09Speaker 1: put this team over the top. They're not. I mean
- 7:11Speaker 1: they're not going to Austin Hayes. Yes, I'm glad they
- 7:13Speaker 1: have the everyday left fielder now at this point, Carlos
- 7:16Speaker 1: Estevez the ninth inning closer, and upgrade certainly over Sir
- 7:19Speaker 1: Anthony Dominguez. He's got this kind of Jose Alvarado kind
- 7:24Speaker 1: of year last year. I'm talking about Carlos Estevez, where
- 7:27Speaker 1: great first half of the season and then he kind
- 7:29Speaker 1: of came apart. Tanner Banks, we don't know too too
- 7:32Speaker 1: much about. Definitely an upgrade I think over Gregory Soto,
- 7:36Speaker 1: because no one could trust Soto as far as they
- 7:37Speaker 1: could throw them. Not a ton of experience thus far,
- 7:40Speaker 1: but obviously Dave Dombrowski sees something in this kid. So
- 7:44Speaker 1: like I'm gonna like, if I had to give these
- 7:46Speaker 1: this trade deadline a grade, it'd probably be around B minus,
- 7:49Speaker 1: maybe like C plus. Not huge splashes, but I think
- 7:52Speaker 1: they were able to slightly to a certain degree upgrade
- 7:55Speaker 1: a little bit in terms of what they needed for
- 7:57Speaker 1: this team.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It's a serious plus, they only do a whole lot.
- 8:01Speaker 2: And you called the Tanner guy kid, I think he's
- 8:04Speaker 2: like thirty three.
- 8:05Speaker 1: He is, I'm sorry.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he on like broke into major leagues at age
- 8:10Speaker 2: thirty or something like that, which is always a little
- 8:11Speaker 2: little concerning. Yeah, these are all these are all just
- 8:15Speaker 2: moves for the second half of this year. I can't
- 8:18Speaker 2: see them having much of the future with the team. Yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 2: even Austin Hayes was just kind of a I mean,
- 8:25Speaker 2: I'm sure the Oils were like, yeah, sure, if you
- 8:26Speaker 2: want them. I guess it isn't a big so, yeah,
- 8:30Speaker 2: they were. They were minor moves, not very splashy. Like
- 8:33Speaker 2: I said, the Dodgers made some real big moves, as
- 8:36Speaker 2: did the Yankees. I'm hoping that I'm hoping that, uh,
- 8:40Speaker 2: on this West Coast trip, I'm hoping for five hundred
- 8:45Speaker 2: because in light of what they did coming out of
- 8:47Speaker 2: the All Star Break that actually that'd probably be pretty
- 8:49Speaker 2: good for them. And then it's big because then you
- 8:53Speaker 2: got you come home and they have nine straight against
- 8:55Speaker 2: anelast opponents after that, almost finishing out August, they play
- 8:59Speaker 2: the break Marlins and Nationals, who just suck.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Yeah, when they when they get back from the West Coast,
- 9:03Speaker 1: I think they start playing the Marlins, thank god.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and then in the Nationals too are terrible, so
- 9:10Speaker 2: that those are those are the games you really because
- 9:12Speaker 2: you're getting out of the point of like if you
- 9:14Speaker 2: beat ale teams, that's great, but really you need to
- 9:16Speaker 2: start beating the teams in your division and not not
- 9:19Speaker 2: just your not just your league. Yeah, so I'm hoping
- 9:24Speaker 2: five hundred, Like I said, it'd be really awfully out there,
- 9:26Speaker 2: and just ship the bet against the Dodgers and Diamondbacks
- 9:29Speaker 2: because you face one of them in the playoffs, they're
- 9:30Speaker 2: gonna be like, well we we just we just kicked
- 9:34Speaker 2: their asses like a month and a half ago. So yeah, Yeah.
- 9:37Speaker 1: I was on a podcast this morning and we were
- 9:40Speaker 1: talking about whether or not we should be in panic
- 9:42Speaker 1: mode as Phillies fans. I'll be honest, like, I think
- 9:46Speaker 1: panic mode is like the worry meter is at like
- 9:49Speaker 1: a ten, you're at about an eight. I'm at about
- 9:51Speaker 1: like a seven seven and a half rate around there.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I'm scared at this point, but I'm not like fool
- 9:58Speaker 1: on panic. I hate when people are like this team
- 10:01Speaker 1: has it's right now, even though they're dropping series here,
- 10:05Speaker 1: they're still in a decent position. So I'm not completely
- 10:08Speaker 1: one panics, but I'm pretty damn scared as we're moving
- 10:11Speaker 1: ahead here.
- 10:12Speaker 2: See, I think I'm higher than you because unlike previous
- 10:15Speaker 2: like they're healthy this year, right now.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Right now, they are.
- 10:19Speaker 2: This is pretty much the squad, Yeah, besides Ranger Swarez,
- 10:21Speaker 2: Like they're pretty much all healthy and they're playing like
- 10:23Speaker 2: absolutely shit. And that that's the most concerning thing is
- 10:26Speaker 2: like if they had if they had like three or
- 10:28Speaker 2: four players on the ir right now, be one thing.
- 10:30Speaker 2: But like they're pretty healthy. The the Suarez injury is
- 10:35Speaker 2: really concerning. Christopher Sanchez has had like what one and
- 10:39Speaker 2: a half good years in his career. Yeah, if Suarez
- 10:42Speaker 2: isn't ready to go once they're like near the end
- 10:44Speaker 2: of the season, playoffs are coming up, and you've got
- 10:48Speaker 2: Wheela Wheeler, Nola, a shaky Sanchez possibly, and then Tajwan
- 10:52Speaker 2: Walker's are fourth that all of a sudden, like the
- 10:54Speaker 2: playoffs are whoa, yeah, it's gonna be a Wheeler Nola
- 10:58Speaker 2: and then you cross your fingers for the other two.
- 11:00Speaker 2: So that the starting pitching depth, that's the one that's
- 11:04Speaker 2: the one thing I wanted Don Braski to address, and
- 11:05Speaker 2: he did not at all. I know that they they
- 11:08Speaker 2: bring what's the kid's named, Jake something.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Oh, the the guy that they brought over in the
- 11:15Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, what's his name? What's his name? Dang?
- 11:19Speaker 2: The kid just he just he just he just did
- 11:21Speaker 2: the complete game.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Seth Johnson.
- 11:24Speaker 2: No, because they're terrible. We're a Philadelphia podcast. We can't.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Oh my god. Oh yeah, the Phillips. I thought you
- 11:29Speaker 1: meant that for some reason. I'm thinking because they brought
- 11:31Speaker 1: some other guys over in some of these trades too,
- 11:34Speaker 1: a guy from the Orioles Seth Johnson, uh and and
- 11:37Speaker 1: another guy a Noisy Chase or something like that.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Tyler Phillips.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Tyler Phillips, Yes, yes, yeah, yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I mean you don't want to rely on him going
- 11:46Speaker 2: into the playoffs. That's my one. That's why I'm an
- 11:48Speaker 2: eight is because they're kind of healthy and the potential
- 11:51Speaker 2: to starting pitching, the whole thing not coming together because
- 11:54Speaker 2: Ranger kind of was the glue in the middle there,
- 11:57Speaker 2: the bridge to like the bottom of the starting line,
- 11:58Speaker 2: and that's that's where I'm concerned.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I am also thinking about what it's gonna take for
- 12:03Speaker 1: this team to kind of get back into form, get
- 12:05Speaker 1: back to what we saw prior to the trade or
- 12:08Speaker 1: not trade deadline, prior to the All Star Break. I
- 12:10Speaker 1: honestly think, Eric, if they win like two games in
- 12:13Speaker 1: a row, two or three, if they get like a
- 12:16Speaker 1: good two to three games in a row, I think
- 12:18Speaker 1: they're back. I really do. And I know that may
- 12:20Speaker 1: sound simplistic, but I think it's a spark. This team
- 12:23Speaker 1: needs a spark. I think a two game win streak here,
- 12:26Speaker 1: two games in a row kind of get them back
- 12:29Speaker 1: into form. Like what do you think? Yeah? What do
- 12:31Speaker 1: I mean? What do you think it's gonna maybe help?
- 12:34Speaker 1: We're experts here.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I love that you're giving them the absolute minute, like
- 12:40Speaker 2: it is the minimum freak two, that's the.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Just too not one win two?
- 12:49Speaker 2: How about two? If they got two series in a row, yeah,
- 12:53Speaker 2: I go back to like a four, Like okay, we're
- 12:56Speaker 2: all right. Like if they got to Seattle and win
- 12:59Speaker 2: two out of three, I'm like, okay, I feel better now. Yeah, yeah,
- 13:02Speaker 2: it would go away quickly and then and then got
- 13:04Speaker 2: good news about Suaz or something, it would jump back
- 13:07Speaker 2: to like probably a four bit right now that Like
- 13:10Speaker 2: I said that that sweep was disheartening and really like
- 13:14Speaker 2: a slap in the face, like from a team you
- 13:17Speaker 2: know that you might you might face them down the road,
- 13:19Speaker 2: the deal, and they just kicked your ass.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. And they're fans in in Citizens Bank Park. Terrible, terrible.
- 13:29Speaker 1: All right, let's move on to our next topic here
- 13:32Speaker 1: before we get to our first break here. I don't
- 13:36Speaker 1: know if you all out there have been watching the Olympics.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I certainly have. My family has, just due to the
- 13:42Speaker 1: fact that my daughter is a gymnast. We've certainly been
- 13:45Speaker 1: following the USA gymnastics team, certainly what someone Biles has
- 13:49Speaker 1: been doing Sony Lee as well, you know. And I
- 13:52Speaker 1: wanted to bring a topic here to the show this week.
- 13:55Speaker 1: If we had a choice, which Summer Olympics sport or
- 13:58Speaker 1: event would we want to anticipate in and why? Because
- 14:03Speaker 1: I'm looking at these athletes, I swear to God, even
- 14:06Speaker 1: water polo Eric, I'm like, I couldn't do I just
- 14:10Speaker 1: couldn't do this stuff. Of course, not at this age.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I mean, I used to play tennis. When I was
- 14:14Speaker 1: in high school. I played varsity tennis. Believe it or not,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I was decent, but man, like, it's the athleticism never
- 14:20Speaker 1: ceases to amaze me when I watch my daughters, whether
- 14:22Speaker 1: it's my one daughter does karadi, my other daughter just
- 14:24Speaker 1: does gymnastics. The athleticism, it is astonishing to watch it
- 14:28Speaker 1: all the time with these individuals due to their bodies.
- 14:31Speaker 1: And I'm thinking to myself, Man, if I had my choice,
- 14:34Speaker 1: if I had talent, if I had the body, what
- 14:38Speaker 1: would I want to What sport would I want to
- 14:41Speaker 1: play in? Uh or be a part of it in
- 14:44Speaker 1: the summer Olympics. So what is that for you?
- 14:47Speaker 2: Well, I was watching three and three basketball yesterday. Oh boy,
- 14:51Speaker 2: and yeah, and they got the US team got be bad.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I don't understand that team at all. Yeah. I text
- 14:59Speaker 2: all you guys earlier too. They like, there's so many
- 15:01Speaker 2: guys from the NBA that like just retired a year
- 15:03Speaker 2: or two ago that they could have just picked up
- 15:06Speaker 2: and like won this thing running away. Instead they have
- 15:09Speaker 2: Jimmer for Debt and three guys I never played in
- 15:12Speaker 2: the league. I don't think. I don't understand. I don't
- 15:15Speaker 2: understand how this team got composed. It makes no sense.
- 15:19Speaker 2: It's it's really bizarre sports. So at first I was like, man,
- 15:24Speaker 2: maybe this would be the one because because I feel
- 15:27Speaker 2: like I could maybe make it. Basketball's cool, but I
- 15:30Speaker 2: don't know. I don't like the feel of it. It's
- 15:31Speaker 2: just bizarre. One I would love to try, and I'll
- 15:36Speaker 2: get to the one I would definitely would like to
- 15:38Speaker 2: be in. There's a canoe slalom. Yes, that's insane. I
- 15:45Speaker 2: kind of dig that it does. It does man, the
- 15:49Speaker 2: upper body strength you have to have for that crap. Yeah, No,
- 15:53Speaker 2: I'm I'm definitely gonna mark the one. I would definitely
- 15:57Speaker 2: want to be able to be the break dancing one. Yes,
- 15:59Speaker 2: where she that it's in the Olympics. I of course,
- 16:03Speaker 2: like most eighties kids, like born in the late seventies
- 16:07Speaker 2: was into hip hop and the the mid eighties had
- 16:10Speaker 2: had the cardboard I was just gonna say.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Break up that cardboard box, put it down.
- 16:14Speaker 2: And get going. I mean every kid my age at
- 16:17Speaker 2: some point had the year or two of like was
- 16:20Speaker 2: really into break dancing. Yeah, and the Seaton Olympics in
- 16:22Speaker 2: twenty twenty. It's just really cool. And on a side note,
- 16:26Speaker 2: part of the reason I picked it too was my
- 16:28Speaker 2: daughter was just at a dance intensive in Boston for
- 16:31Speaker 2: three weeks and her one hip hop instructors in on
- 16:34Speaker 2: the Olympic team. Oh really break dance? Yes, all right? Now, yeah,
- 16:38Speaker 2: all right, very cool.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Very cool. I like that. I'd like those answers. Yeah, this,
- 16:43Speaker 1: the canoe one is fantastic. It really is crazy.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Yeah for me, I can nude. I'm sure you have two?
- 16:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I can. You know this? I could do this.
- 16:53Speaker 1: My delts are hurting after like three minutes, exactly.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I can't imagine going as fast as I could. Yes,
- 16:59Speaker 2: like in a race.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Yes for me, I gotta go with something. I don't
- 17:03Speaker 1: know if it's boring or not, but I gotta go
- 17:04Speaker 1: with skateboarding. I actually got I gotta go with skateboarding.
- 17:07Speaker 1: It's something I've always loved, admired it from Afar, you know,
- 17:12Speaker 1: whether it was you know, Tony Hawk or of course
- 17:14Speaker 1: you know guy we followed back in the day, Bam Margera,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you know, from the Philly area. I've always loved skateboarding,
- 17:20Speaker 1: the athleticism, the precision when it comes to skateboarding, and
- 17:25Speaker 1: it's just it's just fucking cool. Man. Skateboarding is just
- 17:28Speaker 1: fucking cool. And the fact that it's been an Olympic
- 17:31Speaker 1: sport now for for a little while it's been It's
- 17:33Speaker 1: been a few games, right I think. Yeah, Yeah, I
- 17:38Speaker 1: mean I love it.
- 17:39Speaker 2: It took him way too long. I mean the X
- 17:41Speaker 2: Games were happening. If you watch any skateboarding documentary, that
- 17:46Speaker 2: those comps have been going on forever and ever since
- 17:48Speaker 2: the seventies. Yeah, and it's and even after the Winter Olympics,
- 17:52Speaker 2: you know, got snowboarding, you know. I just like skateboarding
- 17:57Speaker 2: should have been the Olympics starting nineties. Maybe, Yeah, it's
- 18:01Speaker 2: been around that long, so yeah, I agree with you.
- 18:03Speaker 2: It is super awesome. I did it for a short while.
- 18:06Speaker 2: It was around the same time as the breakdancing thing,
- 18:10Speaker 2: and it was one of those things where I was like,
- 18:13Speaker 2: I'm not very good at this. I'm going to break
- 18:15Speaker 2: my face. Yeah, I didn't do it for very long.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I just I'm amazed when I watched the Olympics, Eric,
- 18:20Speaker 1: when you look at the swimmers, you look at the gymnasts,
- 18:23Speaker 1: like you look at those sports and those athletes that
- 18:27Speaker 1: are doing the sports that have been around for a
- 18:30Speaker 1: really long time, and you can see how the sports
- 18:33Speaker 1: have actually progressed. Of course, like with Simone Biles, I
- 18:35Speaker 1: mean because I'm a we're a gymnastics family here. Love
- 18:39Speaker 1: Simone Biles, always root rooting for all those girls on
- 18:41Speaker 1: the USA gymnastics team. But you just see the evolution
- 18:45Speaker 1: of understanding what it was back in the sixties and
- 18:48Speaker 1: then the seventies, eighties, nineties, where it is today. It
- 18:51Speaker 1: is astonishing how the human body has able or is
- 18:56Speaker 1: able to be developed and molded to an extent that
- 18:59Speaker 1: they can actually do some of the moves and tricks
- 19:01Speaker 1: that they're able to do out there. It really is amazing.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I'm surprised you don't see gymnasts when they're older walking
- 19:09Speaker 2: around like like nineteen seventies running backs. Yeah, like in
- 19:13Speaker 2: their fifties, half of them are almost paralyzed, Like girl
- 19:16Speaker 2: Campbell can barely even move anymore. Right, I'm honestly surprised
- 19:19Speaker 2: gymnasts at certain age aren't in wheelchairs because I see
- 19:22Speaker 2: the shit you. I don't know how they do it
- 19:24Speaker 2: and then maintain flexibility and movement later in life.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Yeah, my daughter will be walking out of gymnastics, she's
- 19:31Speaker 1: walking to the car, and she's got like a little
- 19:33Speaker 1: limp going on. I'm like, yeah, right there, I said,
- 19:35Speaker 1: She's like, oh, I split the beam like four times
- 19:38Speaker 1: and I'm like, ah, Jesus, just the thought of it,
- 19:41Speaker 1: you know, and she's like, all right, I'm gonna keep
- 19:43Speaker 1: doing it, keep going back to it.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Well, my my daughter comes out of dance and she's like, yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 2: my hip's hurt, and she shows me the moves they
- 19:51Speaker 2: were doing. It's like sixty times, and I'm like, well,
- 19:53Speaker 2: of course they hurt. Yes, ping out of socket, like
- 19:57Speaker 2: seeing what you're doing.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well, we're gonna ge into our first break.
- 20:01Speaker 1: But if you enjoy the content here, subscribe on whatever

- 20:28Speaker 1: is just a horrendous and horrific social media site.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Anymore.
- 20:32Speaker 1: It's I just I say this all the time. I
- 20:35Speaker 1: don't know how much more I can take of it.
- 20:37Speaker 1: I don't know how much more I can take, especially
- 20:39Speaker 1: during election season now and unfortunately I'm feeding into that.
- 20:42Speaker 1: But still it's incredible. It's incredible at Philadelphia Pst. At
- 20:48Speaker 1: Brick Pollet for Eric and at Jeffrey Underscore Warren for me.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I'm never leaving. I will turn the lights off when
- 20:55Speaker 2: it when it chucks off. That's how long I'm staying
- 20:57Speaker 2: on Twitter.
- 20:59Speaker 1: You're one of the I'm staying, buddy, because your retweets
- 21:01Speaker 1: are great. I see some of that stuff and I'm like,
- 21:03Speaker 1: how did he come across this?
- 21:05Speaker 2: I'm like, my gosh, well it's getting worse. I'm finding.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:11Speaker 2: And by the way, if I if I retweet something
- 21:14Speaker 2: and you go Underneathan look at it, I don't. I'm
- 21:17Speaker 2: not responsible for the pornography or nudity it's going on
- 21:22Speaker 2: and almost everything, yes, tweet thread point, Yeah, it's it's
- 21:25Speaker 2: it's insane. What's happened? Yeah.
- 21:27Speaker 1: The porn is when you take a look under something
- 21:30Speaker 1: you've retweeted or something you like, you just go and
- 21:32Speaker 1: check out the threat. It's like got maybe ten comments
- 21:34Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, what's everybody saying? And then it's
- 21:37Speaker 1: just somebody promoting their OnlyFans or something or whatever. It is.
- 21:41Speaker 1: It's it's like, what the hell's going on here? The
- 21:44Speaker 1: great exact exactly, boying a Right, we're gonna take a
- 21:49Speaker 1: quick break here. We'll be back in just a bit.
- 21:53Speaker 1: All right, We are back and we're gonna be getting
- 21:55Speaker 1: into some Sixers talk. Nothing with regard to the roster here,
- 22:00Speaker 1: but plans for the new Sixers stadium have really stalled
- 22:04Speaker 1: at this point. We've been following this story here at
- 22:07Speaker 1: the PST podcast show and a new angle and I
- 22:11Speaker 1: don't necessarily want to call it new development because it's
- 22:13Speaker 1: kind of been there, but New Jersey officials are trying
- 22:17Speaker 1: to lure the team and the new arena to Camden.
- 22:22Speaker 1: How would that actually change the dynamics of Sixers fandom? Eric,
- 22:26Speaker 1: I think it's interesting because I think it could happen
- 22:29Speaker 1: because at the end of the day, Harris Blitzer Sports
- 22:33Speaker 1: and Entertainment, which owns the Sixers and the New Jersey Devils.
- 22:37Speaker 1: You know, we are all too well aware of Josh
- 22:40Speaker 1: Harris and how he likes to run his businesses. He
- 22:43Speaker 1: wants to make money, doesn't really care about the fans
- 22:45Speaker 1: too too much. But for the past couple months they've
- 22:48Speaker 1: been discussing a plan with New Jersey officials to relocate
- 22:51Speaker 1: the team to Camden, and it I think it would
- 22:55Speaker 1: be interesting in terms of the fandom. I think it
- 22:58Speaker 1: would be interesting in that it would feel disconnected from
- 23:02Speaker 1: the city. I think even though a lot of players
- 23:06Speaker 1: I believe live over in New Jersey, I think there
- 23:08Speaker 1: would be a disconnect. And it kind of pains me
- 23:11Speaker 1: because I love the renderings of the building and the
- 23:14Speaker 1: arena in Center City that have been proposed. Of course,
- 23:18Speaker 1: there's the group in Chinatown that is really opposed to it,
- 23:21Speaker 1: and they're really working to kill the plan, which I
- 23:23Speaker 1: totally get. I get it you don't want this huge
- 23:27Speaker 1: arena in your backyard. But I don't know. I think
- 23:31Speaker 1: going over to Camden, I think it would really kind
- 23:33Speaker 1: of change the dynamic of who and what the Philadelphia
- 23:37Speaker 1: seventy six ers are. To be honest with you, it
- 23:40Speaker 1: would create a bit of a disconnect, I think for
- 23:42Speaker 1: US fans. I don't know, what are your thoughts on this?
- 23:45Speaker 2: A couple thoughts, because this ositizes into when the Phillies
- 23:50Speaker 2: we're thinking about putting their stadium down there Chinatown back
- 23:53Speaker 2: and I think it was like, oh boy, that was
- 23:56Speaker 2: a while ago. Yeah, Yeah, that was one of the plans,
- 23:59Speaker 2: and that completely fell through and unfortunately didn't have much
- 24:01Speaker 2: to do with the Chinatown group. They pretty much trying
- 24:05Speaker 2: to do the same thing they're doing now. Had more
- 24:07Speaker 2: to do with just economics and real estate. But I
- 24:11Speaker 2: think Harris is a businessman. He's a sports owner where
- 24:15Speaker 2: he's a businessman at heart. I think he knows moving
- 24:18Speaker 2: the team, he's gonna make money either way. Owning an
- 24:21Speaker 2: NBA team is just you just print money. Especially the
- 24:23Speaker 2: new TV deal coming up with NBC as opposed to
- 24:27Speaker 2: tn T. They're going to make billions on that. But
- 24:30Speaker 2: he's smart enough to know you moved to Camden, you're
- 24:34Speaker 2: kind of pricing out. You're like Richie rich fans, Yeah,
- 24:38Speaker 2: a little bit, the ones that come from the Philly
- 24:41Speaker 2: suburbs that aren't gonna want to go to Camden. If anybody, yeah,
- 24:46Speaker 2: if you're familiar with that area, you know you and
- 24:49Speaker 2: I have been to shows at the waterfront Camden Spot
- 24:52Speaker 2: a couple many times. They heard you as soon as
- 24:56Speaker 2: you go over the bridge, the Ben Franklin or whatever
- 24:58Speaker 2: you go, They basically heard you right into the waterfront
- 25:03Speaker 2: parking lot. They don't allow you to go into Camden
- 25:06Speaker 2: in one second. Cam is much better than it used
- 25:10Speaker 2: to be. When I lived there, it was one of
- 25:12Speaker 2: those like it was like number one in the country
- 25:14Speaker 2: for crime and violence for many years. I think I
- 25:18Speaker 2: think even he knows moving it over there, you know
- 25:20Speaker 2: he's gonna make money, It's just not the best move.
- 25:23Speaker 2: As far as the arena, there's practice facilities, Shore is
- 25:26Speaker 2: going to be there. If we saw it, it's it's incredible,
- 25:28Speaker 2: like and it's really beautiful. Yeah, but I think moving
- 25:31Speaker 2: the I think moving the arena there is a bad move.
- 25:33Speaker 2: I think ultimately it's gonna wind up right where they're
- 25:36Speaker 2: going to put it in center city. That's that's how
- 25:38Speaker 2: most cities now have their sports arenas, most of more downtown.
- 25:43Speaker 2: And I mean, I'm going to Buffalo in a few weeks,
- 25:46Speaker 2: and that's a perfect example of like you know, you're
- 25:49Speaker 2: walking downtown and there's the Sabers Arena right there, and
- 25:52Speaker 2: then their minor league baseball one is right down the street,
- 25:54Speaker 2: right in the city. And that's how, really how it
- 25:56Speaker 2: should be done. The way the the way the Phillies
- 25:58Speaker 2: have it is just so archaic. Just down by the
- 26:02Speaker 2: Navy Yard in South Philly, just as these dead. There's
- 26:05Speaker 2: no restaurants.
- 26:06Speaker 1: There's a whole lot of nothing.
- 26:08Speaker 2: You have to eat at Exfinity Live because that's all
- 26:10Speaker 2: there is there.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Which kind of just thinks after all these years, when
- 26:13Speaker 1: it Exfinity Live first came, it was great. It was
- 26:16Speaker 1: great at first, it really was, but then it's like, oh, boy,
- 26:19Speaker 1: are we just going to get this overpriced crap here?
- 26:22Speaker 1: No offense, folks, I'm just saying a lot of overpriced nonsense.
- 26:26Speaker 2: And I've had people like reach out to me who
- 26:29Speaker 2: listen to the show or just people that know I
- 26:31Speaker 2: live there, and they're like, hey, give me some recommendations
- 26:34Speaker 2: when I go to a game. Yeah, And I'm like, well,
- 26:36Speaker 2: you gotta be ready. You have to be willing to travel.
- 26:39Speaker 2: It's not going to be down there. You're gonna have
- 26:41Speaker 2: to go somewhere else, right to actually enjoy something that's
- 26:43Speaker 2: not a fifteen dollars beer at Exfinity Live and a
- 26:47Speaker 2: twenty two dollars cheese steak. But I think ultimately that's
- 26:51Speaker 2: where it's going to go. They have at a point
- 26:54Speaker 2: where you can't wells Fargo Center is just so yeah,
- 26:59Speaker 2: there really is. It's in between the two stadiums. There's
- 27:02Speaker 2: nothing special about it.
- 27:03Speaker 1: It's mid here we go, it's mid Eric.
- 27:08Speaker 2: It has no riz exactly.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Our kids will be proud of us.
- 27:14Speaker 2: No cap Jeff, Yes, yeah, so I just I'm hoping
- 27:19Speaker 2: it goes downtown. I know people downtown can be pissed off,
- 27:22Speaker 2: and I believe me, I get it. But it's also
- 27:25Speaker 2: like it's gonna happen anyway. I understand trying to fight it,
- 27:28Speaker 2: but it's it's it's economics and the city's I'm sure
- 27:32Speaker 2: the downtown area is dying for something like that to
- 27:34Speaker 2: come there because what else really is in center city
- 27:38Speaker 2: that would draw tons and tons of people in for
- 27:41Speaker 2: like one night kind of deal. Because he had Mention Center.
- 27:45Speaker 2: That's pretty much it. It's really not much else. Yeah.
- 27:47Speaker 1: So yeah, it's really interesting. I'd love to hear other
- 27:50Speaker 1: people's thoughts out there with this, because you know, it's
- 27:55Speaker 1: it's an interesting notion for me as somebody who's a
- 27:57Speaker 1: public official too. When you get these development projects throughout
- 28:01Speaker 1: your communities, you have people who are opposed to it,
- 28:03Speaker 1: you have people who do support it, and you know
- 28:06Speaker 1: a lot of people at the end of the day
- 28:07Speaker 1: don't necessarily like change, but people also don't want something
- 28:11Speaker 1: forced down their throats either, and coming to that balance,
- 28:14Speaker 1: I think is one it's important and two it's tough
- 28:19Speaker 1: to actually get to. But at the end of the day,
- 28:21Speaker 1: like I'm dealing with that, I can't believe were talking
- 28:22Speaker 1: about this on a freaking show right now, But like
- 28:24Speaker 1: I'm dealing with the development thing with regard to my
- 28:27Speaker 1: county council position here, it's something that I'm very much
- 28:30Speaker 1: in favor of taking a forty year old blighted building
- 28:33Speaker 1: and actually creating something instead of just having it blighted
- 28:38Speaker 1: for another forty years, I would say so. Anyway, I'd
- 28:42Speaker 1: love to hear from folks out there with regard to
- 28:44Speaker 1: this situation with the Sixers and where their arena may go.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com. Love to read
- 28:51Speaker 1: your email here in the show and respond to it.
- 28:53Speaker 1: And before we again get to our next break and
- 28:55Speaker 1: what we're thrown down on the table, Eric, real quick,
- 28:57Speaker 1: let's get into some Eagles training camp, maybe some stories
- 29:00Speaker 1: that we've been following this week. Team is finally in pads.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts is looking pretty good, the receivers are looking good.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I gotta be honest with you. I love the way
- 29:11Speaker 1: that our new cornerback, first round pick Quinon Mitchell and
- 29:15Speaker 1: AJ Brown have been jawn with each other, trash talking
- 29:18Speaker 1: each other, and then they're just putting their arms around
- 29:20Speaker 1: each other after they're done on the field. They're challenging
- 29:24Speaker 1: each other. I think AJ Brown is making Quinnon Mitchell
- 29:28Speaker 1: before our eyes and even better cornerback. And look, I
- 29:31Speaker 1: don't know if Quinjon Mitchell is gonna be that next
- 29:33Speaker 1: starter opposite side of Darius Slay to start the season,
- 29:38Speaker 1: but I love that. I love this storyline so far,
- 29:42Speaker 1: teammates helping each other out to help get to that
- 29:45Speaker 1: next level. Cornerback, as we know, is the most difficult
- 29:47Speaker 1: position to transition to from college to the NFL, and
- 29:52Speaker 1: that's like a storyline I've been following that. I think
- 29:54Speaker 1: it's really cool and I think it goes to show
- 29:57Speaker 1: the leadership on this team and guys being will willing
- 30:00Speaker 1: to really step up in that regard. AJ Brown has
- 30:02Speaker 1: certainly been doing it so that that's one key takeaway
- 30:06Speaker 1: from this past week that I'm really going to continue
- 30:08Speaker 1: to keep my eyes on.
- 30:09Speaker 2: What about you, man, Well, I to piggyback off yours.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Isaiah Rodgers too, has looked phenomenal in camp, so f
- 30:17Speaker 2: everyone's saying, so, what a good problem to have, you know,
- 30:20Speaker 2: to really damn good cornerbacks along with Sleigh. I love
- 30:25Speaker 2: how DeVante Smith got signed, made his money and not
- 30:30Speaker 2: resting on his laurels at all. He showed up ready
- 30:32Speaker 2: to freaking go. I think he wants to prove in
- 30:35Speaker 2: his mind that he's a number one receiver even though
- 30:37Speaker 2: he's on a team with aj Brown. I think it's
- 30:39Speaker 2: a competition thing, healthy competition. Again, what a great problem
- 30:44Speaker 2: to have a guy who thinks he's a number one
- 30:46Speaker 2: when he's actually a one B one thing. I'll say.
- 30:51Speaker 2: I also, I was reading BLG and everybody's saying this
- 30:56Speaker 2: to Sheila Caapedia said on the Ringer the other day
- 30:59Speaker 2: on the Philly There's Philly Special podcast. Whatever it is
- 31:02Speaker 2: that Jalen Carter looks like a monster. Yeah, like he's
- 31:06Speaker 2: ready too, And and we talked a lot about how
- 31:08Speaker 2: he and his drafting capabilities, and you went Davis and
- 31:12Speaker 2: Carters back to back. Fletcher Cox is not there to
- 31:16Speaker 2: be that band ait anymore in the middle. It's like
- 31:18Speaker 2: one of these two has to step up and be
- 31:19Speaker 2: that guy. I'm not sure if Jordan Davis is that guy.
- 31:22Speaker 2: I'm not sure if he's ever gonna be in good
- 31:25Speaker 2: enough shape to be a Fletcher Cox. But Jalen Carter
- 31:28Speaker 2: certainly has the build in the mentality to do that.
- 31:31Speaker 2: And just to hear that he's there just like I'm
- 31:33Speaker 2: the man now, like that, no one's no one's stopping me.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I love that. One thing. I we we could talk
- 31:40Speaker 2: about this now. I talked a lot about Nakobe Dean
- 31:43Speaker 2: last week and he hasn't gotten one rep with the
- 31:48Speaker 2: first team defense yet and it's a full weekend with pads.
- 31:52Speaker 2: That's highly, highly concerning. And plus everyone's saying Devin White
- 31:56Speaker 2: looks phenomenal, looks fast and looks ready to go. That
- 31:58Speaker 2: that that that's probably spills trouble for Kobe Dean.
- 32:02Speaker 1: I think so. Yeah, No, I think so. And the
- 32:03Speaker 1: fact that actually Jeremiah Trotter Junior has been getting some
- 32:06Speaker 1: love this week too, when given the opportunity, you know,
- 32:09Speaker 1: not necessarily these guys being able to cover in space.
- 32:13Speaker 1: We've been talking about it here. I've been talking about
- 32:15Speaker 1: it here. I probably sound like a broken record, but
- 32:18Speaker 1: I just don't think that the Eagles front office has
- 32:22Speaker 1: made that a priority. With regard to the talent they're
- 32:24Speaker 1: bringing in for the linebacker position, they just haven't but
- 32:27Speaker 1: they want guys getting to the ball. They want pursuit
- 32:29Speaker 1: to the ball. Devin White is certainly getting it done.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Jeremiah Trotter Junior is getting it done. So is Zach
- 32:34Speaker 1: Bond too from all indications, But Nakoby Dean seems to
- 32:37Speaker 1: be perhaps the odd man out at this point, not
- 32:40Speaker 1: making any splashes, kind of just going along with things here,
- 32:44Speaker 1: and he could be that odd man out and he
- 32:46Speaker 1: may be looking for a job over the course of
- 32:49Speaker 1: these next few weeks here.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think if he doesn't step up and grab
- 32:54Speaker 2: his starting spot, the supply is last year on the team,
- 32:56Speaker 2: I can't imagine. Yeah, they would keep him on the
- 32:58Speaker 2: roster after this. The good news that Nolan Smith looks
- 33:01Speaker 2: really good. Yes, one says he's lying around. And what's
- 33:06Speaker 2: the kids named Jlex Hunt Jalos actually Jalx. Yeah, I
- 33:11Speaker 2: love that name. I'll learn how to pronounce a draft pick.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, one of the draft picks from this year.
- 33:16Speaker 2: But they're we're saying he's surprising people, like, we didn't
- 33:18Speaker 2: see this, we didn't think it was this good. Yeah.
- 33:20Speaker 1: He's like a ton a huge athletic type of guy,
- 33:24Speaker 1: one of one of those like quote project type of
- 33:27Speaker 1: draft picks, you know. And uh, I like what we're
- 33:30Speaker 1: hearing about him. I know we're going to be getting
- 33:32Speaker 1: into Nolan Smith a little bit more with Johnny Page,
- 33:34Speaker 1: who's coming on from Bleedinggreen Nation dot com. Uh, but
- 33:37Speaker 1: we're gonna be getting into Nolan Smith a little bit more.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I know he has some ups and down thoughts with
- 33:41Speaker 1: regard to Nolan Smith from what he's written. But I
- 33:45Speaker 1: like the fact that good news is coming because the
- 33:48Speaker 1: guy is a first round draft pick and he's got
- 33:50Speaker 1: to be able to produce. I think at some point,
- 33:52Speaker 1: you know, you draft him late in the first round
- 33:55Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, we need to see him
- 33:57Speaker 1: being able to step up, and I think I think
- 33:59Speaker 1: we are at this point. So I my thoughts with
- 34:02Speaker 1: the defensive line. I've had concerns, as you know, we've
- 34:04Speaker 1: talked about it feeling a little bit better, still having
- 34:07Speaker 1: some concerns still a little bit here and there about
- 34:09Speaker 1: what that edge rush is going to look like with
- 34:11Speaker 1: Josh Sweat, who kind of fell off at the end
- 34:13Speaker 1: of last year. Brandon Graham is he's just getting older.
- 34:18Speaker 1: As we know, Nolan Smith really needs to step it
- 34:20Speaker 1: up here. So I'm I'm confident, but with hesitation here.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Now big time. The edge rush is a huge blaring
- 34:31Speaker 2: hole going into the going into the season. I think
- 34:35Speaker 2: you're gonna have the pressure up front. It's going to
- 34:36Speaker 2: be on those guys on the edge and you you're
- 34:39Speaker 2: I mean, I know everyone tells me Bryce Huff is
- 34:42Speaker 2: a damn good football player.
- 34:43Speaker 1: I almost forgot about Bryce Huff. Yes, so I do
- 34:45Speaker 1: feel a little better.
- 34:46Speaker 2: I've never really seen him, but I don't know, I
- 34:49Speaker 2: have no idea. He hasn't really did much in in
- 34:51Speaker 2: camp yet, and and the minor thing the third receiver
- 34:56Speaker 2: spot just nothing so far. Yeah, just praying Brown and
- 35:01Speaker 2: DeVante don't go down because like no one has really
- 35:03Speaker 2: stepped up except for the undrafted kid looks pretty good
- 35:06Speaker 2: right now from last year.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's that's gonna be a battle. Let's
- 35:11Speaker 1: talk about that more at some point down the road, buddy,
- 35:13Speaker 1: But I know you got to get going. You got
- 35:15Speaker 1: an early morning tomorrow, So any final thoughts before we
- 35:18Speaker 1: head out here.
- 35:20Speaker 2: No, No, I have to get a early and drive.
- 35:22Speaker 2: I have to go to work for like, you know,
- 35:24Speaker 2: a day I work remote, so like, yeah, but.
- 35:27Speaker 1: You're still going to work. I still say that I
- 35:29Speaker 1: go to work, you know what I mean, even though
- 35:31Speaker 1: I'm working from home.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Yeah. It is actually nice, though, get every now and
- 35:34Speaker 2: again to actually to get up and go somewhere. Yes,
- 35:36Speaker 2: I don't mind that. Yeah, but I'm I'm surely not
- 35:39Speaker 2: going to complain to a bunch of people who have
- 35:40Speaker 2: to go to work tomorrow right now. I have to
- 35:41Speaker 2: go to work once this week.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Yeah, so all right, buddy, Well I'll let you go. Folks,
- 35:46Speaker 1: were gonna take a quick break to pay some bills.
- 35:48Speaker 1: We'll be back in just a bit. All right, we
- 35:51Speaker 1: are back. Let's now get to what we are throwing
- 35:54Speaker 1: down on the table. We got a great discussion coming

- 36:19Speaker 1: Oh and he does some podcasts too, Just to let
- 36:21Speaker 1: you know. We've got the one and only Johnny Page,
- 36:25Speaker 1: Johnny Buddy, thanks so much for jumping on here and
- 36:28Speaker 1: getting into some Eagles talk. It's an exciting time. Thanks
- 36:30Speaker 1: for joining us.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Yeah, so good. I was just speaking to you off
- 36:33Speaker 3: there about how many people that I know have done
- 36:36Speaker 3: the show before.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you have.
- 36:38Speaker 4: Alexis on recently as well. We're beating Green as well.
- 36:40Speaker 4: She was on last week, Bog.
- 36:43Speaker 3: I'm trying to think about how many rights as you've
- 36:44Speaker 3: had from this start of the pond in England may
- 36:47Speaker 3: have not been too many.
- 36:48Speaker 1: You're the second one. Tom West from Libertyballers dot com
- 36:52Speaker 1: the other sp nations site. Tom has been on a
- 36:55Speaker 1: number of times, and you're the second one, my friend.
- 36:58Speaker 1: But that's okay, your top three, right.
- 37:01Speaker 3: I mean yeah, top three, top two of two. I'm
- 37:03Speaker 3: definitely losing, and I'm losing the British like unique this.
- 37:06Speaker 3: Now there's a lot of fans over here. Actually it
- 37:08Speaker 3: used to be like there was about me and Lee
- 37:09Speaker 3: and Jenkins, who's another got on Twitter. We're about the
- 37:11Speaker 3: only two that I know of. Yeah, and now there's
- 37:13Speaker 3: loads of us, So you're all better get used to
- 37:15Speaker 3: hearing this. Love the English accent because I don't think
- 37:17Speaker 3: we're going away in these times soon as far as
- 37:19Speaker 3: I'm aware.
- 37:19Speaker 1: I love it keeping our podcast platform sounding very smart.
- 37:23Speaker 1: I like that, and you are very smart. You got it.
- 37:26Speaker 1: You've got seriously great words over at the on the
- 37:30Speaker 1: Shane Page podcast. You and are a friend of the pod.
- 37:34Speaker 1: Shane have do a fantastic job with that podcast and
- 37:37Speaker 1: some of your other co hosts and friends colleagues over there.
- 37:41Speaker 1: And again, folks Bleeding Green Nation dot com, you know
- 37:43Speaker 1: the site, You've been there before. Check out everything they're
- 37:46Speaker 1: doing over there. Johnny's got some great, great content. And
- 37:50Speaker 1: let's get into this Eagles training camp here, Johnny, because
- 37:53Speaker 1: there's definitely excitement about what we've been seeing from this
- 37:56Speaker 1: Kellen Moore offense and already what we've been seeing in camp,
- 38:00Speaker 1: just seeing some new stuff we haven't seen from an
- 38:02Speaker 1: Eagles offense in quite some time. We're seeing, of course
- 38:05Speaker 1: big story pre snap motion, but also some play action
- 38:09Speaker 1: rollouts within this offense. Like I got really excited with
- 38:13Speaker 1: that over the past couple of days when I'm like,
- 38:15Speaker 1: oh my gosh, there's actually play action rollouts happening here.
- 38:18Speaker 1: And I find it amazing that we're finding some of
- 38:20Speaker 1: the most basic stuff that offensive coaches running the NFL
- 38:25Speaker 1: exciting here in Philadelphia, but here we are, here, we are,
- 38:28Speaker 1: So Kellen Moore appears to be making a difference thus far. Johnny,
- 38:32Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on what we've been seeing and
- 38:35Speaker 1: really what's been reported from this offense so far in camp?
- 38:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I could probably talk for an entire episode about
- 38:43Speaker 3: Kelling Moore because I started him quite a lot, probably
- 38:45Speaker 3: more than any of our offensive cord and that I'm
- 38:47Speaker 3: fascinated by Kellen Moore in general. I think he's a really,
- 38:50Speaker 3: really good coach. And I'm not saying that because he
- 38:53Speaker 3: was hired him, like when the rumors came out. I'd
- 38:55Speaker 3: always been a big fan of him, sadly with the Cowboys.
- 38:57Speaker 3: I think I remember playing his offenses. I remember watching
- 39:00Speaker 3: offense a lot and being really impressed by him. I
- 39:03Speaker 3: think the best thing that I've basically read from every
- 39:05Speaker 3: reporter is that it's his offense. So I think there
- 39:07Speaker 3: was maybe a little bit of concern about is it
- 39:09Speaker 3: going to be like a blend of Sirianni and what
- 39:12Speaker 3: they've done of late, and it's pretty much no. I
- 39:14Speaker 3: think the most interesting thing is going to be how
- 39:16Speaker 3: they blend his run game because Kellen Moore's run game
- 39:18Speaker 3: is very different to Jeff Stalton's run game, and Jeff
- 39:20Speaker 3: Stouton is still here, So that's going to be the
- 39:23Speaker 3: thing that I'm keeping an eye on the most. But
- 39:25Speaker 3: I think the thing that you've mentioned, like prestat motion
- 39:27Speaker 3: is a given. Kellen Moore is a huge fan of it.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Basically every successful NFL offense because he accepts ours uses it,
- 39:33Speaker 3: so it's hardly revolutionary. The play action roll out stuff's
- 39:37Speaker 3: really interesting because that often comes from under center, and
- 39:39Speaker 3: the Eagles have not had another center run game for
- 39:42Speaker 3: basically as long as they drafted Jaden Hurts. It always
- 39:45Speaker 3: helps running from shtgun if you've got mobile quarterbacks, So
- 39:47Speaker 3: the Eagles have heavily relied on a shotgun run game.
- 39:50Speaker 3: But I think they're going to have to sort of
- 39:51Speaker 3: blend the two together, and that's the thing that I'm
- 39:54Speaker 3: really interested to see in preseason. But everything I've been
- 39:57Speaker 3: reported is like what I want to hear. I'm sure
- 40:00Speaker 3: like you as well. We listened to the player interviews.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I think Avonte Maddock spoke a sort of joking lead
- 40:03Speaker 3: he's never seen so much.
- 40:04Speaker 4: In Devonte Smith as he has in this training camp.
- 40:07Speaker 3: And that's just basic because for all of you fantasy
- 40:09Speaker 3: guys out there as well, basically the slot guy in
- 40:12Speaker 3: Kellem Moore's offense just goes nuts every year. So if
- 40:14Speaker 3: Devontae Smith is playing in the slot a lot, I
- 40:16Speaker 3: think he's going to put up some seriously good numbers
- 40:18Speaker 3: this year. It might be more like a one A,
- 40:19Speaker 3: one B situation with Smith and Brown that we've seen
- 40:22Speaker 3: in the past, but I think it's basically like exactly
- 40:25Speaker 3: what you wanted to see, Like the Eagles offense just
- 40:28Speaker 3: needed something a little bit fresh. They were basically an
- 40:30Speaker 3: extremely talented offense individually that was let down by a
- 40:33Speaker 3: very basic scheme. And I think Keller Moore will just
- 40:36Speaker 3: bring a sort of a new approach where it's not
- 40:40Speaker 3: going to be reliant on individuals simply winning and actually
- 40:43Speaker 3: giving individuals help. Because as good as Aja Brown is,
- 40:45Speaker 3: as good as Devonte Smith as, you can't just expect,
- 40:47Speaker 3: against very good defensive players and very good defensive schemes,
- 40:50Speaker 3: guys just to individually go out there and win every week.
- 40:52Speaker 4: And I think last year we saw that when.
- 40:54Speaker 3: It worked, it was still very successful because the Eagles
- 40:56Speaker 3: got very good players, and if Nick Sery and He's
- 40:58Speaker 3: offense was still here, it would still be very good
- 41:00Speaker 3: this year, because the Eagles offense has got too much
- 41:02Speaker 3: talent to not be good, right, but it desperately needed
- 41:05Speaker 3: a pair of fresh eyes. It desperately needed someone to
- 41:07Speaker 3: look at things from a different perspective. And basically everything
- 41:11Speaker 3: I'm seeing so far is that it's Kelly Moore's offense
- 41:13Speaker 3: and if they can work, and I do think there'll
- 41:15Speaker 3: be a learning curve between Hurts and Kelly Moore because
- 41:17Speaker 3: it will be different to him. He's never done this before.
- 41:21Speaker 3: There'll be stuff like turning his back to the defense
- 41:22Speaker 3: that is very new for him, and he might hate
- 41:24Speaker 3: it at times.
- 41:25Speaker 4: But if the two.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Could actually get on well and it blends successfully, then
- 41:30Speaker 3: I think this team is going to have a very
- 41:32Speaker 3: very good offense this year.
- 41:33Speaker 4: And I think he was fan still be excited about that.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, it is excited, very exciting, I should say
- 41:38Speaker 1: the fresh look. I mean that in itself is I
- 41:42Speaker 1: think the essence of what we are so excited about
- 41:45Speaker 1: us Eagles fans in general, and from all reports Jalen Hurts,
- 41:49Speaker 1: he looks very, very fluid with his passes, putting the
- 41:53Speaker 1: ball where it needs to be down the field. And again, Johnny,
- 41:56Speaker 1: this is camp. You know, there's only been a few
- 41:58Speaker 1: days of practice. Thus they just put on the pads
- 42:01Speaker 1: this week for the first time. I am very much
- 42:04Speaker 1: looking forward to seeing how Jalen Hurts is able to
- 42:09Speaker 1: understand the blitz where it's coming from, how he is
- 42:12Speaker 1: able to whether whether or not he's able to audible
- 42:15Speaker 1: during certain plays times of the game, as well as
- 42:19Speaker 1: the season progresses. I want him to develop in that
- 42:22Speaker 1: manner because I think there were times within knick Series
- 42:25Speaker 1: old off Nick Siriani's old offense where it was a
- 42:28Speaker 1: struggle for him every now and again and perhaps maybe
- 42:30Speaker 1: just relying on his legs a little too much. What
- 42:33Speaker 1: do you want to see when it comes to Jalen
- 42:35Speaker 1: Hurts and his decision making as he's progressing through camp
- 42:39Speaker 1: and this coming season overall.
- 42:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a good question because this is a very
- 42:43Speaker 3: very good quarterback. But he's a strange quarterback where he
- 42:46Speaker 3: has a lot of things he could improve on, even
- 42:48Speaker 3: though he's already very good. Because I always describe him
- 42:50Speaker 3: as like his strength or a very very strong so
- 42:53Speaker 3: he can live off his accuracy in his athletics and
- 42:56Speaker 3: basically the two days he's so accurate with a bow
- 42:59Speaker 3: and he's so athletics that pretty much. You can have
- 43:02Speaker 3: a lot of other flaws in life as a quarterback,
- 43:03Speaker 3: but if you're good at those two things, you can
- 43:05Speaker 3: get away with it.
- 43:06Speaker 4: There's a lot I could talk about.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Again. I think I've mentioned the under center thing about
- 43:09Speaker 3: turning his back to the defense. I think the biggest
- 43:11Speaker 3: thing I want to see from him, and I'll be
- 43:12Speaker 3: looking at this in preseason if he plays, which he
- 43:14Speaker 3: probably won't, so it'll be a Week one and week two.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Think it's just being decisive for the football. I think
- 43:18Speaker 3: sometimes Hurts hold onto the ball too long. I think
- 43:21Speaker 3: this Eagles offense has been guilty of taking too many
- 43:24Speaker 3: like deep shots, but I think Hurts is part of
- 43:26Speaker 3: that as well. As much as you can blame the coach,
- 43:29Speaker 3: I don't think every single bit of blame can always
- 43:31Speaker 3: go on the coaches. Like I think there were times
- 43:33Speaker 3: last year when I saw that they had a vertical
- 43:35Speaker 3: route called and maybe it was one on one, and
- 43:37Speaker 3: Hurts took it and some quarterbacks wouldn't take it. They
- 43:40Speaker 3: would then get to their second and third read, And
- 43:42Speaker 3: I think it's easy to blame the coaches for saying, well,
- 43:44Speaker 3: why have they got that read in the system?
- 43:46Speaker 4: But pretty much every.
- 43:47Speaker 3: NFL offense has first few works for most plays, it's
- 43:49Speaker 3: down to a quarterback to take it or not. And
- 43:52Speaker 3: I think of someone like Justin Herbert who's got an
- 43:54Speaker 3: amazing arm, but doesn't take those shots down the field.
- 43:56Speaker 3: And maybe if you played of a j Brown he would.
- 43:58Speaker 3: But I'd like to see like Hurts a little bit
- 44:00Speaker 3: more safe. He doesn't turn the boy ever a lot. Actually,
- 44:02Speaker 3: when I say safe, I don't mean necessarily squeezing balls
- 44:04Speaker 3: into tight windows. That's not really what Hurts does. He's
- 44:06Speaker 3: never been that kind of a quarterback. I mean more
- 44:08Speaker 3: like just taking the check down, maybe getting to his
- 44:11Speaker 3: second and third read. I think like the days of
- 44:15Speaker 3: like the Manning and Brady and reading backside and full
- 44:17Speaker 3: field reeds are sort of gone. NFL offenses don't really
- 44:20Speaker 3: play like that anymore because the amount of mobility the
- 44:22Speaker 3: quarterbacks have got. Do I really want Jada and Hurts
- 44:24Speaker 3: sitting in the pocket and get into a full freed,
- 44:26Speaker 3: probably not utter him just take off after his first
- 44:28Speaker 3: two aren't open, because he's that good of an athlete
- 44:30Speaker 3: that by that point you put yourself less in harm's
- 44:32Speaker 3: way Because I less liked taking sacks less likely you're
- 44:36Speaker 3: throwing the ball sort of out of time. So I
- 44:38Speaker 3: think the biggest thing when it comes to decision making is
- 44:40Speaker 3: simply getting rid of the ball quickly, Like whatever he does,
- 44:42Speaker 3: whether he runs, whether he throws it deep, I want,
- 44:44Speaker 3: I want it to be quick. And I think that's
- 44:46Speaker 3: where they struggled against the blitz as well. The Eagles
- 44:48Speaker 3: blitz like offense last year was genuinely like the worst
- 44:52Speaker 3: I've ever seen in scouting or watching film in however
- 44:55Speaker 3: long I've done this job for. Like it was almost
- 44:59Speaker 3: like amateur at times.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it was.
- 45:01Speaker 4: It was embarrassing to be frank. And I don't like.
- 45:02Speaker 3: Criticizing coaches because coaches no more than all of us,
- 45:04Speaker 3: and that's why I got the jobs and while I
- 45:06Speaker 3: get paid.
- 45:07Speaker 4: But it seems to just.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Be reliant on the Eagle's offense on like you're good,
- 45:10Speaker 3: just got figure it out. And this year that won't
- 45:13Speaker 3: be the case, but it still won't be easy. Teams
- 45:16Speaker 3: are still going to blitz. Hurt's a hell of a lot.
- 45:17Speaker 3: They're going to stop blitzing because Kelln.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Glad you said that. I'm absolutely glad you said that,
- 45:22Speaker 1: because it's going to happen. It is going to happen.
- 45:25Speaker 1: What has passed is prologue and I think we're going
- 45:27Speaker 1: to see that more this year.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Yeah, And I hate to break it to fans, but like,
- 45:31Speaker 3: there's only so much you can do against the blitz,
- 45:32Speaker 3: and it still relies on a quarterback doing things like
- 45:34Speaker 3: the Ken Will is not going to sund you walk
- 45:36Speaker 3: in and go, oh, that's it now, not.
- 45:38Speaker 4: Blitz ever again.
- 45:39Speaker 3: It's like blitzing is a huge part of football, and
- 45:41Speaker 3: very good offensive coordinators can get caught out by it,
- 45:43Speaker 3: and a lot of it's gonna come down to hurts.
- 45:45Speaker 3: There's a lot of simulated pressure, creepy pressure, and for
- 45:48Speaker 3: those of you that aren't aware of that, more like
- 45:50Speaker 3: pressure when you maybe have potentially five rushing and only
- 45:53Speaker 3: four come and more one drops into coverage. The Eagles
- 45:55Speaker 3: haven't really seen much stuff like that because no one
- 45:57Speaker 3: needed to be complicated against the.
- 45:59Speaker 4: Eagles last year. They just sent the house every time.
- 46:02Speaker 3: So the Eagles will probably have to deal with some
- 46:03Speaker 3: more complex blitz this this year, like Hurts might not
- 46:05Speaker 3: just see seven guys standing in a line of scrimmage
- 46:08Speaker 3: and all seven guys rush. So I think the ability
- 46:11Speaker 3: to deal with the blitz, I think hurts and I
- 46:14Speaker 3: like Jaden Hurts a lot, And I think Eagles fans
- 46:15Speaker 3: defend Hurts maybe a lot, because the national media seems
- 46:19Speaker 3: to be quite critical of him, maybe overly critical in
- 46:21Speaker 3: my opinion at times.
- 46:22Speaker 4: And I think his.
- 46:22Speaker 3: Eagles fans, we're naturally quite defensive of our players, yes,
- 46:25Speaker 3: and I am as well.
- 46:26Speaker 4: And I think maybe he's play against the blitz.
- 46:29Speaker 3: He's just basically like everyone's got always all the coaches
- 46:32Speaker 3: for it's all the coaches.
- 46:33Speaker 4: It's all the coaches fault.
- 46:34Speaker 3: And I think this will be the year when Hurts
- 46:36Speaker 3: actually has to prove that it's. Yes, the coaches had
- 46:39Speaker 3: a role to play, but he also is a professional
- 46:41Speaker 3: NFL quarterback and he will have to play well against
- 46:43Speaker 3: the blitz. So decision making against the Blitz and just
- 46:46Speaker 3: decision making in general, in terms of getting rid of
- 46:48Speaker 3: the ball quicker, not holding it as long, and maybe
- 46:52Speaker 3: taking more checkdowns, more short throws, and not going for
- 46:54Speaker 3: the big shot as much. They're the things that I
- 46:56Speaker 3: want to see sort of more and hurts work on
- 46:59Speaker 3: this year.
- 47:00Speaker 1: One of the other aspects of this offense, Johnny, that
- 47:03Speaker 1: I am getting a little bit more and more concerned with,
- 47:06Speaker 1: and maybe I shouldn't because of Jeff Stotlin type of
- 47:08Speaker 1: coach he is and how he's able to develop offensive lineman.
- 47:12Speaker 1: It really is the right guard position, and then consequently
- 47:16Speaker 1: how Cam Jurgens is going to be developing as the
- 47:18Speaker 1: new center on this offense. I mean, I'm just from
- 47:22Speaker 1: a scale of one to ten, you know, what's your
- 47:25Speaker 1: concern level with the right guard? And I'm wondering why
- 47:28Speaker 1: and given the fact that Tyler Steen he's been out
- 47:30Speaker 1: with an ankle injury, really to start training camp here,
- 47:34Speaker 1: Kai Becton may not be the most solid offensive lineman
- 47:37Speaker 1: in the world. Then again, maybe we need to trust
- 47:40Speaker 1: Jeff Stoutlin and what he's been able to do over
- 47:42Speaker 1: the years, his track record. It is what it is.
- 47:45Speaker 1: But from a scale of one to ten, what's your
- 47:48Speaker 1: concern level with the right guard position here at this point?
- 47:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm a little bit worried like you, I might.
- 47:55Speaker 4: I'm sorry you asked two questions.
- 47:57Speaker 3: In some ways, I'm not worried about center, and maybe
- 47:59Speaker 3: this might come back to bite me. I'm it's weird
- 48:01Speaker 3: to say I'm excited because obviously no one wants Jason
- 48:03Speaker 3: Kelce to retire, But I am so excited to see
- 48:05Speaker 3: Cam Jurgens center. I think it's his natural precision position.
- 48:08Speaker 3: I think he's going to be fantastic. I think he'll
- 48:11Speaker 3: fit the Eagles. I mean, assuming it's stat Stalton's run game. Still,
- 48:14Speaker 3: I think he'll fit it like a glove. I hate
- 48:16Speaker 3: losing offensive lineman in general, like I just don't like
- 48:19Speaker 3: losing any of them. I still remember Isaac saym Ilu
- 48:21Speaker 3: leading and that annoying me. But you can't sign everyone
- 48:23Speaker 3: in half. The idea of having a great offensive line
- 48:26Speaker 3: coach is that you can't have the five most expensive
- 48:28Speaker 3: offensive line, and otherwise you might as well not bother
- 48:30Speaker 3: investing in these guys. And I'm unsure about Tyler Steen,
- 48:35Speaker 3: like I'm not.
- 48:36Speaker 4: I'm not fully convinced.
- 48:38Speaker 3: I think he's one of those like tackle hybrids that
- 48:40Speaker 3: I don't think he's long enough to play tackle, but
- 48:42Speaker 3: I'm not sure if he's stout enough. No pun intended
- 48:44Speaker 3: to play offensive guard as well, so.
- 48:47Speaker 4: I saw I'm a little bit unsure about all of them.
- 48:49Speaker 4: I think the Eagles will figure something out.
- 48:51Speaker 3: And I think basically, if you've got Dickerson, Johnson and
- 48:53Speaker 3: my Larta.
- 48:54Speaker 4: I think you'll be perfectly fine.
- 48:56Speaker 3: I think the problem they will have is that I
- 48:57Speaker 3: think if Tyler Stein's next to Jergons and name Johnson
- 48:59Speaker 3: all year, he probably be fine. But if you do
- 49:01Speaker 3: get an injury to like Lane Johnson, and he has
- 49:03Speaker 3: been known to miss a few games, especially as he
- 49:06Speaker 3: gets older, then I think if you're playing like a
- 49:08Speaker 3: Makai Becton at right tackle or whoever's next man up
- 49:12Speaker 3: next to next Esteine, That's when my concern levels will
- 49:16Speaker 3: go up a loss. So the moment, I'm okay, but
- 49:18Speaker 3: I think injuries will change that. But I'm a little
- 49:20Speaker 3: bit fascinated by a few guys I've got on the line.
- 49:23Speaker 3: I think Trevor Keegan, the late round rookie, I think
- 49:25Speaker 3: has a lot of actually starting traits if they wanted
- 49:28Speaker 3: to try him. Beckton, I've got just no idea about.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Like he's justly freakish looking guy. I'm surprised they're giving
- 49:36Speaker 3: him right guard reps and I got that wrong. I
- 49:39Speaker 3: think I thought they just train him at tackle and
- 49:42Speaker 3: basically leave him as an egal future backup tackle, and
- 49:44Speaker 3: I'm hoping that they're not training him at right guard
- 49:47Speaker 3: out of necessity. I'm hoping that's something they wanted to
- 49:50Speaker 3: do because I think, if I'm honest, if Becton struggled
- 49:53Speaker 3: to play tackle, I don't see why teaching him two
- 49:55Speaker 3: positions is going to.
- 49:56Speaker 4: Help him develop.
- 49:57Speaker 3: Yeah, so I'm a little bit I'm a little annoy
- 49:59Speaker 3: about I'm say annoyed. I'm a little bit concerned about that.
- 50:01Speaker 3: I would I'd rather seen beckt and stay at tackle.
- 50:04Speaker 3: I'm hoping that basically the plan was always to blame
- 50:07Speaker 3: at guard, and I know Brian Baldinger said that he
- 50:09Speaker 3: thinks he could be the equal starting guard, and I
- 50:11Speaker 3: trust Baudy on the offensive line a lot, So I'm
- 50:14Speaker 3: hoping that that's something they saw. Personally, he looks like
- 50:17Speaker 3: a tackle to me, just because of the way he
- 50:19Speaker 3: looks a.
- 50:21Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, just his bill.
- 50:22Speaker 4: To me as a tackle build. So I'm a little concerned.
- 50:25Speaker 3: But I'm also like, do you know what I think,
- 50:27Speaker 3: as long as Ane Johnson and Cam Jurgens are there,
- 50:29Speaker 3: I think the right guard will be okay because you
- 50:31Speaker 3: can slide protection, you can double up on these guys
- 50:33Speaker 3: because Lane Johnson is basically left on the island every
- 50:35Speaker 3: single snap, and there's not many right tackles in the
- 50:37Speaker 3: league who you can just leave one on one. So
- 50:40Speaker 3: I basically think that as long as you leave those
- 50:42Speaker 3: two guys Jurgins and whoever the right guard is to
- 50:45Speaker 3: double like a defensive lineman's best player, I think they'll
- 50:48Speaker 3: be okay. And as I said, I wouldn't discount Trevor
- 50:52Speaker 3: Keegan eva I think he is someone that's quite pro ready.
- 50:57Speaker 4: I'm up and down on Tyler Stein.
- 50:59Speaker 3: So my concerns for the right now position in general
- 51:01Speaker 3: will probably quite high, But then my concern levels for
- 51:04Speaker 3: the offensive line unit as a whole are lower because
- 51:06Speaker 3: I think you can get away with a below average
- 51:08Speaker 3: piece if you've got a couple of studs on the
- 51:10Speaker 3: offensive line, because you can do things protection wise to
- 51:13Speaker 3: help out someone who's struggling.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Yeah, so I.
- 51:15Speaker 3: Guess to answer you a question, i'd give it like
- 51:17Speaker 3: I'm quite worried about Steen and I've not seen anything
- 51:20Speaker 3: that's convinced me that he'll be the right answer there.
- 51:23Speaker 3: But I still think he was going to have a
- 51:24Speaker 3: very good offensive line this year because they've got three studs,
- 51:27Speaker 3: and I think Jergins is going to be awesome, and
- 51:29Speaker 3: if I'm wrong, then I'll be more worried because two
- 51:33Speaker 3: problems next to each other is an issue.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Yep.
- 51:36Speaker 3: But I just maybe my I'm too obsessed with pre
- 51:38Speaker 3: season from like two years ago when Jergons just lit
- 51:41Speaker 3: it up, and I'm just incredibly excited because I think
- 51:43Speaker 3: he's such a good fit for this offense.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Absolutely, yeah, I mean, my concern level with Tyler Stein
- 51:47Speaker 1: at this point just the right guard position is really
- 51:49Speaker 1: probably around a seven. If I had to rate it
- 51:52Speaker 1: one out of ten, it would probably be around a seven.
- 51:54Speaker 1: So we're certainly going to keep talking about it here
- 51:56Speaker 1: on this podcast platform. I know your podcast platform, you're
- 52:00Speaker 1: to be talking about this as well. And real quick, folks,
- 52:03Speaker 1: make sure you're following Johnny on the Twitter slash x
- 52:06Speaker 1: at Johnny page nine. He is a great, great follow
- 52:09Speaker 1: lots of great insights, lots of great tweets. And let's
- 52:12Speaker 1: move over to the defense here at this point here,
- 52:15Speaker 1: and I love how Quinnon, Mitchell and aj Brown have
- 52:20Speaker 1: just been so ultra competitive with each other throughout camp
- 52:23Speaker 1: so far. We've been hearing about the stories. I love
- 52:25Speaker 1: these type of stories, Johnny. They've both been trash talking
- 52:29Speaker 1: each other after plays, and ultimately they're upping each other's
- 52:33Speaker 1: game because it's not just about that competition on the
- 52:36Speaker 1: field and during practice, but it's what's happening off the
- 52:40Speaker 1: field as well. Again trying to just up each other's
- 52:43Speaker 1: games in that competitive type of nature, but both wanting
- 52:46Speaker 1: to mainly AJ Brown wanting to make sure that he's
- 52:49Speaker 1: helping Quinnon Mitchell in various ways. So I'm wondering, you know,
- 52:52Speaker 1: what is your hope for Quinnon Mitchell here? Will he
- 52:55Speaker 1: be able to you know, what will be able to
- 52:59Speaker 1: do throughout camp as a rookie, and how he's going
- 53:01Speaker 1: to start the season on this Eagles defense. What are
- 53:03Speaker 1: your thoughts on him?
- 53:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I think everyone who loves football just loves those
- 53:07Speaker 3: stories down they I was so hoping that that he
- 53:10Speaker 3: was account was going to release it as a video. Yeah,
- 53:12Speaker 3: and they didn't, And it's probably because Aj Brown didn't
- 53:14Speaker 3: get open. If it was like against a opposing wide
- 53:17Speaker 3: receiver in training camp, they definitely would have tweeted the click. Yes,
- 53:20Speaker 3: everyone knows that defensive backs and receivers have got to
- 53:22Speaker 3: be a little bit nuts. So I'm glad because Quen
- 53:25Speaker 3: your Mitchell comes across as very quite quiet actually in
- 53:28Speaker 3: some ways, like an interviews, he's pretty mild mannered, and
- 53:31Speaker 3: you sort of hope he has that streak to him.
- 53:32Speaker 3: So I saw him stare or they heard he was
- 53:34Speaker 3: staring down A J. Brown gave a little fist bump
- 53:37Speaker 3: because that's what everyone wanted to hear. Yeah, I think
- 53:40Speaker 3: going against those guys in training is going to be
- 53:42Speaker 3: unbelievable development for him.
- 53:43Speaker 4: I think in A J.
- 53:44Speaker 3: Brown and the Vonte Smith, you've probably got, except for
- 53:46Speaker 3: maybe a couple like a Wadell with them Turrey, you've
- 53:49Speaker 3: got probably the two hardest receivers to defend as terms
- 53:52Speaker 3: of a duo because AJ Brown is just physically freekykish,
- 53:56Speaker 3: and then you've got the Vonte Smith who is just
- 53:58Speaker 3: unbelievably quick and athletic. And I think as a rookie
- 54:01Speaker 3: cornerback or as any quarterback, to have to go up
- 54:02Speaker 3: against those guys every day is going to be awesome.
- 54:05Speaker 3: I think when your minje'lly will be fine. I'm a
- 54:07Speaker 3: little bit sort of uncertain how much will play this
- 54:09Speaker 3: year because I think despite being a very early pick,
- 54:12Speaker 3: I think they're going to give other guys a go out.
- 54:13Speaker 3: It seems like anyway, maybe Isaiah Rodgers and Killey Ringo
- 54:16Speaker 3: might be the first guys up. I think the thing
- 54:19Speaker 3: about this Eagle's defense, while I think everyone's got to
- 54:21Speaker 3: calm down a little bit about the gene and as
- 54:24Speaker 3: well Mitchell, this year is just that Fanjo's defense is
- 54:27Speaker 3: really hard to pick up. And as someone who's been
- 54:30Speaker 3: studying Fanjo's defense a lot this summer, actually just trying
- 54:32Speaker 3: to get my head around a few more things in depth,
- 54:34Speaker 3: like the amount of stuff you've got to know, you've
- 54:36Speaker 3: got to know on the fly, like if a receive
- 54:38Speaker 3: emotions in a certain direction, if they come out in
- 54:39Speaker 3: a certain personnel package, if they come out in a
- 54:41Speaker 3: certain formation, if they receivers do something at the line
- 54:44Speaker 3: of scrimmage, even when they start running routes, if they
- 54:46Speaker 3: start running them a certain route, you have to do
- 54:48Speaker 3: something different. And I think it's so hard to get
- 54:50Speaker 3: your head around. And I think for a vet like Rodgers,
- 54:53Speaker 3: who's probably I don't know Rogers background, but I'm sure
- 54:55Speaker 3: he's played in similar systems or at least been a
- 54:57Speaker 3: part of the Fangio tree once in his life.
- 55:00Speaker 4: If he hasn't.
- 55:00Speaker 3: He's older, and the language from different coaches will be similar.
- 55:04Speaker 3: Last year, obviously, Keidy Ringo played in a very similar style.
- 55:07Speaker 3: It wasn't fanjo, but it's still come from the Fangio
- 55:09Speaker 3: style with Shawn Desire, Whereas I think Mitchell sorry, will
- 55:14Speaker 3: just have to be straight up like brand new to
- 55:16Speaker 3: him and as a rookie, I think cornerback is probably
- 55:18Speaker 3: the hardest position to play anyway, So I'd be quite
- 55:21Speaker 3: happy with him sitting for a little bit. I know,
- 55:22Speaker 3: a bit controversial. I think everyone's gonna want to see
- 55:24Speaker 3: him weik one, and don't get me wrong, I would
- 55:26Speaker 3: love to see him outside week one. I've seen some
- 55:28Speaker 3: comments like we'll just push him into a nickel and
- 55:29Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, I mean a Fonte Maddocks.
- 55:31Speaker 4: Is really good at healthy.
- 55:33Speaker 3: The idea that a rookie's going to walk in and
- 55:35Speaker 3: just out just like immediately bench of Ononte Maddocks is
- 55:39Speaker 3: just going to be really difficult because if Maddox is
- 55:41Speaker 3: healthy again, he's played in this system for years, going
- 55:43Speaker 3: back to Jonathan Gann, and he knows how to play
- 55:46Speaker 3: nickel and a fango style defense. He knows the run
- 55:48Speaker 3: fits as well. So just expect when you're Mitchell to
- 55:50Speaker 3: line up in the slot and start day one. I
- 55:52Speaker 3: think it's going to be really tough. I would rather
- 55:54Speaker 3: see him outside. What I sort of hope is that
- 55:56Speaker 3: Ringo and Rogers get their chance. Maybe Ringo plays well
- 55:59Speaker 3: and Rogers plays okay, but just naturally Mutual becomes better
- 56:03Speaker 3: over time, and by some maybe sort of week six
- 56:05Speaker 3: weeks seventy's starting outside. It could even be an injury.
- 56:08Speaker 3: These things happen in football various. Slave's really hurt, but
- 56:11Speaker 3: players miss time as they get older. But I also
- 56:13Speaker 3: think if he doesn't start, you should still see him
- 56:16Speaker 3: in like maybe dying packages, maybe coming in for certain
- 56:18Speaker 3: receivers that you think will match up well with.
- 56:20Speaker 4: So I think he'll be fine.
- 56:22Speaker 3: I wouldn't maybe expect him to take the league by
- 56:25Speaker 3: storm this year because I think it's really hard being
- 56:28Speaker 3: a rookie cornerback. I think it's in particular it's even
- 56:31Speaker 3: more difficult being a rookie cornerback in Fangio's system, because
- 56:34Speaker 3: there is so much you need to learn. It's not
- 56:36Speaker 3: just like a Jim Schwartz style play single high man coverage.
- 56:39Speaker 3: This is your man lineup, you cover him wherever he
- 56:41Speaker 3: goes around the field like In some ways that style
- 56:44Speaker 3: is harder for cornerbacks, but it's also easier. Fangio's style
- 56:47Speaker 3: is much more dependent on who you're playing and what
- 56:50Speaker 3: they're doing before the snap and after the snap. So
- 56:53Speaker 3: I'm excited to watch him, but I think I would
- 56:55Speaker 3: sort of advise a little bit of caution from fans.
- 56:57Speaker 3: You think he might just come in Week one, take
- 56:59Speaker 3: the star job and run with it all season. I
- 57:01Speaker 3: think it'll probably be a season where he sits for
- 57:03Speaker 3: a bit and then hopefully by the second half of
- 57:06Speaker 3: the season we're really seeing him develop and actually playing
- 57:08Speaker 3: a lot more.
- 57:09Speaker 1: One of the themes that we're really talking about during
- 57:11Speaker 1: this conversation, Johnny and I think one of the themes
- 57:14Speaker 1: of this Eagle season, I think that we need to
- 57:16Speaker 1: keep in the back of our minds is how young
- 57:18Speaker 1: this team is, the youth, how they are going to
- 57:20Speaker 1: be able to contribute, perhaps even down the stretch as well,
- 57:23Speaker 1: how they're all developing. And it has been so good
- 57:26Speaker 1: to hear thus far that Nolan Smith appears to be
- 57:30Speaker 1: taking some steps on the defensive line as one of
- 57:33Speaker 1: these younger players, because that's what That's one of the
- 57:35Speaker 1: areas of this team that I have some real genuine
- 57:38Speaker 1: concerns about. And I know the talent is there. I
- 57:41Speaker 1: know that it's there, but there again, there are a
- 57:43Speaker 1: lot of young guys who need to carve out certain
- 57:46Speaker 1: roles here, and that's going to be a developing and
- 57:49Speaker 1: fluid situation with this Eagles defense and specifically the defensive
- 57:52Speaker 1: line here. So what are your hopes for what Nolan Smith,
- 57:56Speaker 1: in particular, the former first round pick, is going to
- 57:58Speaker 1: be able to show us through camp and perhaps this
- 58:01Speaker 1: coming season.
- 58:02Speaker 3: Yeah, anyone that's not heard me before knows I'm a
- 58:04Speaker 3: little bit more negative on Loredan Smith.
- 58:06Speaker 4: So he's an interesting one. I basically think though, of
- 58:09Speaker 4: the Smith is just.
- 58:10Speaker 3: An unbelievably good athlete who's incredibly raw. Like I didn't
- 58:14Speaker 3: see particularly great pass russ technique last year. I didn't
- 58:16Speaker 3: see a lot of pass rushing moves. I didn't see
- 58:18Speaker 3: an ability of like we talk about with edge defenders,
- 58:21Speaker 3: like a pass rush plan, like when you rush your
- 58:22Speaker 3: quarterback what you wan to do. But the other issue
- 58:25Speaker 3: is he didn't play, so he didn't really have a
- 58:27Speaker 3: chance to develop it. So it's sort of like a
- 58:29Speaker 3: double sword, like who was at fault? Was it the
- 58:31Speaker 3: coaches for not playing him, But then you could argue
- 58:32Speaker 3: he wasn't good enough to be played. I want to
- 58:35Speaker 3: see him basically start this year, and I want to
- 58:38Speaker 3: see a When I say start, I don't necessarily mean
- 58:40Speaker 3: playing every single snap, but at least be third up
- 58:43Speaker 3: in their rotation behind the sweat and Huff who obviously
- 58:45Speaker 3: paid very well. I want to see a genuine pass rusher,
- 58:48Speaker 3: like I know Fanjo will drop him into coverage, and
- 58:51Speaker 3: one of the problems last year was he suck when
- 58:53Speaker 3: he dropped into coverage, and he needs to improve that.
- 58:55Speaker 3: But I don't really care about that, Like, I think
- 58:57Speaker 3: that's something you can work on and you can teach
- 58:59Speaker 3: and the athlete to drop back. At the end of the day,
- 59:01Speaker 3: when you ask for edge defender, defenders and the fango
- 59:04Speaker 3: style to drop back, you're asking them to run with
- 59:05Speaker 3: a tight end. You're asking them just to be a
- 59:07Speaker 3: body in coverage. Like the whole point of why they
- 59:10Speaker 3: need to drop is just because you want the offense
- 59:11Speaker 3: to not know who's coming, right. You don't need to
- 59:13Speaker 3: actually be great in coverage, Like you're not going to
- 59:15Speaker 3: ask him to sort of cover a slot receiver running
- 59:18Speaker 3: across the formation that like he just needs to basically
- 59:21Speaker 3: be an actor and just stand there and this.
- 59:23Speaker 4: Show he's going to rush.
- 59:25Speaker 3: I think run defense, he's really solid, and he's been
- 59:27Speaker 3: really solid in run defense since college. I'm not worried
- 59:29Speaker 3: about his play against a run despite the fact he's undersized.
- 59:31Speaker 3: It's purely his ability to rush the quarterback. I don't
- 59:34Speaker 3: want to see cleanup sacks like I could give you
- 59:36Speaker 3: a number, like personally, i'd like to see like six
- 59:39Speaker 3: plus like seven eight sacks would be nice. I think
- 59:41Speaker 3: it's anything more than that. It's unrealistic based on what
- 59:43Speaker 3: we've seen this year. I don't want to see like
- 59:46Speaker 3: one and I don't want to see like it being
- 59:48Speaker 3: a cleanup sack like I know last year he had
- 59:50Speaker 3: his humming who is against But I remember his first
- 59:53Speaker 3: sack and it was it was a lovely play, but
- 59:55Speaker 3: he was unblocked the end of the day. It was
- 59:56Speaker 3: a it was a miscommunication on the offensive line and
- 59:59Speaker 3: then without sending would like I don't care about that.
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: I want to see him actually beat a good offensive
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: tackle with like a rip mover like at I want
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: to see him bend the edge against a proper offensive tackle,
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: and even if he doesn't get the sack, I just
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: want to see.
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: The ability to rush the quarterback.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: Like it's easy to put numbers on these things, but
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: because I'm like Brandon Graham, who's barely I think hit
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: ten tacks once and there's always been a always been
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: a disruptive pass rusher going back from out the last
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: ten years basically, So I want to just see the
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: ability to win by bending the edge and by getting pressure,
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: and I want to see like proper pass rush moves.
- 1:00:31Speaker 3: I don't want to see him winning by speed. I
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: don't want to see him winning because the offensive linemen
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: are confused. As much as I'd love that from the
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: Eagles point of view, because it shows that their scheme
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: is confusing a sort of offensive coordinators. I want to
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: see him actually show the ability to rush the quarterback
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: because I didn't see it in college, and I didn't
- 1:00:47Speaker 3: see it last year. But coming out of camp some
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: of the signs are quite positive, even though he's been
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: beating bad offensive lineman in camp. Some of the beat reports,
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: I mean. I spoke to bog On on my podcast
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: yesterday and bog was saying that he also has been
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: or he was more impressed by him showing the actual
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: ability to rush the quarterback, in particular the ability to.
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: Bend the edge.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: So I'm excited to watch him, Like he's a ridiculously
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: good athlete and the talent and the ability, the upside
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: is sky high. I just think he's very raw, and
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: I think hopefully second year of training camp, second year
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: working with coaches, they can get him to develop a
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: better pass rush plan, because if so, I think he's
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: going to be a fan favorite because he talks a
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: great game, his nature is sort of enthusiastic on the field,
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: like he's got a great personality on the field, and
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: everyone wants him to succeed. I just want to see
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: proof this year that he can actually do it well.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: As we wrap up our conversation here, last topic, you know,
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: one of the biggest questions all of us diehard Eagles
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: fans will be following through our training camp here as
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: this linebacker position. Of course, everybody's talking about, you know,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: what the heck is going to happen here? What's this
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: talent level going to do? You know, I feel like
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: I'm longing for the days of TJ. Edwards when he had,
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: you know, some consistency at this position wasn't all the
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: greatest in coverage necessarily, but we still have to get
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: to know Devin Waite, Zach Bond, Kobe Dean, Jeremiah Trade Junior.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I'm here for it. I want to get to know
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: these guys a little bit more and the talent that
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Vic Fangio is going to be able to get out
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: of them on the field. We don't know what this
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: linebacker group is going to do. We don't know them
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: very well right now and how they're going to perform
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: in key situations. Johnny, So what should we be making
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: of this linebacker corps and this position as we're looking
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: at this crew throughout camp.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: Yeah, it's probably the most sort of difficult position I
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: think for the Eagle's defense to predict because they've got
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: a lot of talent in the secondary, a lot of
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: talent and the defensive line. I mean, we know that
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: how he doesn't value it. I know they can say
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: what they want as a franchise, but they don't. There's
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: an organization and you can't value every position the same.
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: So for those in the moment about it, you can
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: also say, well, you can't invest in every single position,
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: So any defensive coordinator who's gonna have to deal with
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: a essentially a mismatch of a sort of players that
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: aren't wanted or one year deals and always been the case.
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: You mentioned t J. Edwards.
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: I will always remember I was furious they didn't sign
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: him back because that was, to me, the stability at the.
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: Position that they needed before that.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: And you have to go back to like Jordan Hicks
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: before they've had like stable linebackers.
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: Yeah, sort of absurd.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: So in terms of the linebackers they've currently got, I'm
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: a little bit all over the place on them. And
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: I want to like the Kobe Dean, but he doesn't
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: give me any reasons to like him at the moment.
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: And the reports that I think injuries are just injuries
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: are a killer for young players. They just they lose
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: reps that they need, They lose mental reps. I've not
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: seen the ability from the Kobe Dean to really show
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: he can be good in coverage at this point. I
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: still think he's a pass rushing specialist at linebacker, and
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: the reports that he's not starting at the first seam
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: and Zach Bourne starting ahead of him is incredibly concerning.
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: If you're in a kbed Dean fan, because I watched
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: that ball a little bit this offseason. Perfectly fine player,
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: like he's okay. I've said this in the past. He's
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: a pass rusher, going back to college when he was
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: an edge defender, did twelve and a half sacks at
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: Wisconsin his last year. I mean, he was an edge
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: coming out of college and the Saints stuck him at
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: off ball linebacker. I'm not sure how pleased he was
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: about that. And now the Eagles are potentially having him
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: as one of their two starters. That concerns me, like
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: I would be concerned about.
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: Zach Baul Devin White.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: I got no idea, Like I go back and forth.
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: A ridiculous athlete, the best athlete the Eagles have had
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: a lineback up for. I dn'tven know when for years,
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: like going back years and years and years he had
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: games against the fotyen nineerscause I watched him quite a
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: lot before when they signed him for a film piece
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: with Bidding Green. And his ability in coverage is way
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: better than people think. I think people have this reputation
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: of him being like a bit of like a hot head,
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: like running around hitting people, but being full by play
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: action and that kind of stuff, and it's partly true,
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: but actually his coverage is really good. Fan is gonna
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: love him in coverage. I guarantee you Eagles fans are
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: going to be happy with what they see with him
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: nice in dropping into his own coverage run defense. I
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: got no idea, Like he had games against the Jags
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: that I watched where I was like, this guy's really good.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: And then if you got to watching against the forty
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: nine ers, like you'd think he'd never played football before.
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: And I hate being that critical, but honestly, like Shanahan
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: had his head on fire, like he was spinning.
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: He couldn't.
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: Every single fact fake that Shanahan did, he fell for it,
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: Like if it was a wide receiver like sort of
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: fake reverse, he'd he'd run with the wide receiver, then
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: they'd actually give it to the wide receiver and he'd
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: run with the running back. And it was just like
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: everything he did he gets wrong, like he gambled wrong
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: every single time. And I'm hoping that Fangio plays a
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: little bit more of a less aggressive star with linebacker,
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: So I think that maybe Fangio will tell him just
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: to calm down and not trust your instincts too much
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: because unfortunately for why, his instincts are invariably wrong and
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: maybe just like read it out And I think if
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: he does that, he could be perfectly fine because his
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: coverage is good. So I think they might just about
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: as they often do, get away with linebacker this year.
- 1:05:42Speaker 4: The unknown guy that I really like is Trotter.
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: I couldn't believe he fell as far as he did,
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: and I think that's because of his basically size. I
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: think some teams would have just not had him on
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: their draft balls because of his size. But I think
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: if you've got instincts at linebacker and you can tackle,
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: you know where to be, then you can play in
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: this league.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: And I actually he compared him to t J. Edwards
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: a little bit as well.
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: I think he might have that kind of career arc.
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: So I'm not very excited about Born and sadly in
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: the Kobe die and just it doesn't seem great, is
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: it when you read the reports that he's not starting still,
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: So I think it might come down to Devin White
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: and Trotter this year. And uh yeah, I think Fanjo
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: is gonna have to get make do with this for
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: as long as he's Eagles DC. I don't think he's
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: ever going to get the high paid star linebackers. That's
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: just not how this franchise does it. So I think
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: it'll be a really interesting test to see how Fangio
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: deals with it in general, because if he can, if
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: he can make do with like White and Trotter, then
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: that's a really good sign because realistically the Eagle are
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: going to have to make do with one year deals
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: at linebacker because that is how I mean, if White
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: has a fantastic year, for example, how he's probably not
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: going to pay him four years whatever, sixty whatever million
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: he wants whatever. So I think even if he's brilliant,
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: they probably going to go back to the drawing board
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: next year anyway. So I think I'm excited to see
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: the linebackers because I think there is a little bit
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: more potential and then there has been in recent years.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: I think someone like Devin White is just simply more
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: and see them what they put out last year. And
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: I haven't got to see Shaq Lenard again, which is
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: great because that was painful.
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: Bless him. That was that was watching a man.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: Who couldn't he couldn't move anymore play football so I
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: think the Eagles have got like enough to get by,
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: And maybe that's not what you want to hear, but
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: you can't be good everywhere. And if the defensive line
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: is brilliant and the secondary can do really good things
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: on the fanzio, then actually having linebackers that are just
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: good enough is okay. I'll finish up with a random
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: name as well, and that Ben Van Sumer and if
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: I pronounce something, oh yeah, yeah. I think he's a
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: bit of a weird talent to watch out for, like
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: really good athlete and showed some decent film last year.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: So I've not read anything about him this year, and
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: he will definitely be someone that will take time to develop,
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: but just keep it eye for him. I think things
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: go badly with Dean and Zach Bourn doesn't end up
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: actually being an offball linebacker after all. Just keep it
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: Alie on him potentially having a role this year as well.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: Again, Folks, Johnny Page from Bleeding Green Niation dot Com
