- 0:17Speaker 2: of Hebrews, Hebrews chapter two, specifically, where we're going to
- 0:20Speaker 2: talk about the humanity of Jesus and why Jesus actually
- 0:25Speaker 2: had to become human and the significance of Jesus's humanity.
- 0:29Speaker 2: We're going to get into that topic in just a minute.
- 0:37Speaker 2: So for those of you who are new on the podcast, welcome.

- 0:55Speaker 2: of the Psalms. So that is the schedule of the
- 0:57Speaker 2: podcast for everyone who is new here. Now. The Book
- 1:00Speaker 2: of Hebrews, which is what we're discussing today, is my
- 1:03Speaker 2: favorite book of the New Testament because I love the
- 1:06Speaker 2: concepts that the Book of Hebrews discusses, the deity of God,
- 1:09Speaker 2: the humanity of God, and what being saved really means.
- 1:13Speaker 2: That's kind of the synopsis of the Book of Hebrews.
- 1:16Speaker 2: So I love this book and I think it is
- 1:18Speaker 2: a very very important book for everybody to read and understand.
- 1:21Speaker 2: So today we're going to get into Hebrews chapter two
- 1:24Speaker 2: right after a quick word from the sponsor. Now, during
- 1:26Speaker 2: the sponsored ad, this is the perfect time for all
- 1:29Speaker 2: of you guys to go grab your favorite cup of
- 1:31Speaker 2: coffee or your favorite cup of tea for all you
- 1:33Speaker 2: crazy tea drinkers out there, or also to grab your
- 1:36Speaker 2: version of the Bible that you prefer. So while this
- 1:38Speaker 2: ad plays, go ahead and get those things, and then
- 1:40Speaker 2: we'll get right into today's chapter to do a quick
- 1:44Speaker 2: recap of what we discussed on Tuesday. We talked about
- 1:47Speaker 2: how Jesus is God and the Old Testament prophecies and
- 1:52Speaker 2: verses that talk about Jesus's deity. We also talked about
- 1:56Speaker 2: how even though Jesus was god fully God, he also
- 2:00Speaker 2: came down to earth and became fully human as well,
- 2:04Speaker 2: So Jesus was both fully God and fully human, and
- 2:08Speaker 2: those two things are very important for us Christians to
- 2:11Speaker 2: understand because a lot of times we like to underplay
- 2:14Speaker 2: Jesus's humanity and really only focus on his deity. And
- 2:18Speaker 2: then on the flip side, people who aren't Christians don't
- 2:21Speaker 2: like to talk about Jesus's deity or they don't believe
- 2:24Speaker 2: that Jesus was God but he was only a man.
- 2:26Speaker 2: But it's important to understand that Jesus was both fully
- 2:29Speaker 2: God and fully man at the exact same time. So
- 2:33Speaker 2: we're going to get into why it's important to talk
- 2:35Speaker 2: about Jesus's humanity on today's episode. So once again, let's
- 2:39Speaker 2: read Hebrews two ten through eighteen and jump into this
- 2:42Speaker 2: topic together. For it became him, for whom are all things,
- 2:48Speaker 2: and through whom are all things, in bringing many children
- 2:51Speaker 2: to glory, to make the author of their salvation perfect
- 2:55Speaker 2: through sufferings. For both he who sanctifies and those who
- 2:59Speaker 2: are sanctified are all from one, for which cause he
- 3:02Speaker 2: is not ashamed to call them brothers, saying I will
- 3:05Speaker 2: declare your name to my brothers among the congregation, I
- 3:08Speaker 2: will sing your praise again. I will put my trust
- 3:12Speaker 2: in him again. Behold here I am with the children
- 3:15Speaker 2: whom God has given me. Since then the children have
- 3:18Speaker 2: shared in flesh and blood. He also himself, in the
- 3:21Speaker 2: same way partook of the same, that through death he
- 3:24Speaker 2: might bring to nothing him who had the power of death,
- 3:27Speaker 2: that is, the devil, and might deliver all of them who,
- 3:30Speaker 2: through the fear of death, were all their lifetime subject
- 3:33Speaker 2: to bondage for most. Certainly, he doesn't give help to angels,
- 3:37Speaker 2: but he gives help to the offspring of Abraham. Therefore,
- 3:40Speaker 2: he was obligated in all things to be made like
- 3:42Speaker 2: his brothers, that he might become a merciful and faithful
- 3:46Speaker 2: high priest in things pertaining to God, to make atonement
- 3:49Speaker 2: for the sins of the people. For in that he
- 3:52Speaker 2: himself has suffered being tempted, he is also able to
- 3:55Speaker 2: help those who are tempted. Interestingly enough, there's some really
- 4:00Speaker 2: difficult concepts, I guess in this short little passage, because
- 4:04Speaker 2: we're talking about why Jesus had to become human, and
- 4:09Speaker 2: on the surface, the answer is pretty easy.
- 4:11Speaker 1: You know.
- 4:12Speaker 2: It's the Sunday School answer where it's like, well, Jesus
- 4:14Speaker 2: had to become human because he had to die and
- 4:17Speaker 2: become the sacrifice for us, and that is absolutely true.
- 4:22Speaker 2: But that's just like scratching the surface as to why
- 4:25Speaker 2: Jesus became human. So let's break it down here. Starting
- 4:28Speaker 2: in verse ten, it says, for it became him for
- 4:32Speaker 2: whom are all things, and through whom are all things,
- 4:34Speaker 2: in bringing many children to glory, to make the author
- 4:37Speaker 2: of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Now the web words
- 4:41Speaker 2: that a little bit odd because it uses more Old
- 4:46Speaker 2: English than what we're used to today. So if you
- 4:49Speaker 2: don't mind, I will paraphrase that verse into more modern English. Basically,
- 4:54Speaker 2: what verse ten means is that Jesus, who is God
- 4:57Speaker 2: because he is the creator and sustains everything by his word,
- 5:01Speaker 2: thought it was necessary or fitting to come to earth
- 5:04Speaker 2: in order to bring children to glory and also to
- 5:09Speaker 2: make himself the author of their salvation, perfect through sufferings.
- 5:14Speaker 2: So he had to make himself perfect through these sufferings.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And he might be like, well, how could Jesus be
- 5:20Speaker 2: made perfect? Is Hebrews implying that Jesus as God was
- 5:24Speaker 2: not perfect before he became a human? We'll actually, no,
- 5:27Speaker 2: that is not what Hebrews is implying at all, because
- 5:29Speaker 2: if you jump to Hebrews five verses eight through ten.
- 5:34Speaker 2: It actually goes more into depth as to what this
- 5:37Speaker 2: perfection through suffering actually means. Hebrews five, starting in verse eight,
- 5:42Speaker 2: though he was a son, yet he learned obedience by
- 5:45Speaker 2: the things which he suffered. Having been made perfect, he
- 5:48Speaker 2: became to all of those who obey him, the author
- 5:51Speaker 2: of eternal salvation, named by God, a high priest after
- 5:55Speaker 2: the order of Malchisa Deck. So basically, being made perfect
- 6:00Speaker 2: means learning obedience through suffering or through death. And actually,
- 6:05Speaker 2: I found a really interesting article on Hebrews chapter two
- 6:09Speaker 2: by John Piper on his website Desiring God. So let
- 6:13Speaker 2: me read what John Piper has to say about this
- 6:16Speaker 2: because I thought it was really really good. And I'll
- 6:18Speaker 2: link this article actually in the description of this episode
- 6:21Speaker 2: because it's very in depth and I think you guys
- 6:24Speaker 2: would really appreciate it. So here's what John Piper says
- 6:27Speaker 2: in this article quote here. Being made perfect means learning
- 6:31Speaker 2: obedience through suffering. This does not mean that he was
- 6:34Speaker 2: once disobedient and then became obedient. It means that Jesus
- 6:38Speaker 2: moved from untested obedience into suffering, and then through suffering
- 6:42Speaker 2: into tested and proven obedience, and this proving himself obedient
- 6:47Speaker 2: through suffering was his being made perfect. Continuing quote. Now,
- 6:52Speaker 2: the writer says in Hebrews two ten that it was
- 6:55Speaker 2: fitting for Christ to attain this proven perfection through sufferings.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Why because Christ is leading many sons to glory, and
- 7:02Speaker 2: so he must succeed where we failed. We have all
- 7:05Speaker 2: suffered and failed to be perfected by it. Instead we
- 7:09Speaker 2: murmur and complain and get angry at God and his providence.
- 7:12Speaker 2: In this way we will never attain the glory of God.
- 7:15Speaker 2: If Christ is going to lead us to glory, then
- 7:17Speaker 2: he must succeed in sufferings where we failed, and that
- 7:20Speaker 2: he did, he was perfected in them. He always obeyed
- 7:24Speaker 2: when tested, even when tested with the most horrible sufferings.
- 7:28Speaker 2: So he is a fitting captain and forerunner and leader
- 7:32Speaker 2: to glory, and the salvation he accomplished is greater for
- 7:35Speaker 2: this fittingness.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Okay, So basically that.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Article talks about how Jesus had to be made perfect
- 7:43Speaker 2: in order to lead us into glory essentially because we
- 7:48Speaker 2: failed in doing God's will. You know, we fail every
- 7:52Speaker 2: single day because we want to just do what we
- 7:54Speaker 2: want to do, and we get mad when God does
- 7:57Speaker 2: things that we don't like. In our day to day lives.
- 8:00Speaker 2: You know, I'm sure some of you have felt that way.
- 8:03Speaker 2: When somebody in your household is sick, or you're feeling sick,
- 8:07Speaker 2: or your car breaks down, or something's not working right,
- 8:10Speaker 2: you don't feel like you have enough money, or your
- 8:12Speaker 2: boyfriend or girlfriend breaks up with you, or something really
- 8:15Speaker 2: bad happens. You get so frustrated with God, you know,
- 8:19Speaker 2: and you almost like have this rage against him, at
- 8:22Speaker 2: least I do. At times. I'm not gonna lie. I
- 8:25Speaker 2: get like really angry. I'm like, God, You're all knowing,
- 8:28Speaker 2: You're all powerful, Why would you allow these things to
- 8:31Speaker 2: happen to me? You know, out of all the people
- 8:34Speaker 2: that it can happen to in the world, I do
- 8:36Speaker 2: a lot of things for you, God, so these things
- 8:37Speaker 2: shouldn't happen to me. We are going against God's will.
- 8:41Speaker 2: When we do that, we are not obedient. But Jesus
- 8:45Speaker 2: became perfect because not only was he obedient when we weren't,
- 8:50Speaker 2: but he also proved that obedience by becoming perfect to
- 8:54Speaker 2: the point of death. He allowed God's will to take
- 8:58Speaker 2: precedence so much in his life that he followed through
- 9:02Speaker 2: to the point of death. And that was important because
- 9:06Speaker 2: he had to become the perfect sacrifice, a sacrifice that
- 9:09Speaker 2: could take all sin away had to be perfect. We've
- 9:13Speaker 2: talked about that before on the podcast, about how even
- 9:16Speaker 2: in the Old Testament, God required the lambs and the
- 9:19Speaker 2: bulls that people brought as sacrifices to be perfect animals
- 9:25Speaker 2: because perfection is the opposite of imperfection. Sin equals imperfection,
- 9:31Speaker 2: and God himself is perfect. So in order to get
- 9:34Speaker 2: close to God, we have to either be perfect or
- 9:37Speaker 2: have a perfect sacrifice take the sin away for us.
- 9:41Speaker 2: In the old days, it was the perfect animals, but
- 9:44Speaker 2: that sacrifice obviously wasn't fully perfect because it was just
- 9:48Speaker 2: an animal. But Jesus, being fully human and God and perfect,
- 9:53Speaker 2: took that sacrifice on himself and became a complete sacrifice
- 9:57Speaker 2: for each and every one of us. He did that
- 10:00Speaker 2: by going through with God's will completely. Whereas you and
- 10:04Speaker 2: I we rage against God's will. But Jesus did not
- 10:08Speaker 2: do that. He did the opposite of that, and that
- 10:10Speaker 2: was what made him the perfect sacrifice, and by doing so,
- 10:15Speaker 2: he brought many children to glory. So he took the
- 10:19Speaker 2: punishment that we deserved that we caused on himself and
- 10:24Speaker 2: took it away washed it away, so that you and
- 10:27Speaker 2: I can now have a relationship with God. Even though
- 10:31Speaker 2: we were born in the sin nature, the sin nature
- 10:34Speaker 2: that does not make us perfect, we are now able
- 10:37Speaker 2: to have that relationship with God. So that's the first
- 10:39Speaker 2: reason why Jesus had to become human. Now here's the
- 10:42Speaker 2: second reason he had to become human in verse eleven.
- 10:46Speaker 2: For both he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified
- 10:49Speaker 2: are all from one for which cause he is not
- 10:52Speaker 2: ashamed to call them brothers, saying I will declare your
- 10:56Speaker 2: name to my brothers among the congregation, I will sing
- 10:59Speaker 2: your praise again. I will put my trust in Him again.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Behold here I am with the children whom God has
- 11:05Speaker 2: given me. So all that to say, Jesus became human
- 11:09Speaker 2: in order to physically become our big brother.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And I really like that.
- 11:15Speaker 2: If Jesus would have remained up in heaven as God
- 11:18Speaker 2: without taking on the human flesh, he wouldn't have become
- 11:22Speaker 2: our brother, if that makes sense, Because God is so
- 11:27Speaker 2: beyond us, He is so much greater than us that
- 11:31Speaker 2: there's no way we could have even related ourselves to
- 11:35Speaker 2: God or called him our brother. So Jesus got personal
- 11:40Speaker 2: with us so that he could have that familial bond.
- 11:44Speaker 2: And he did that by taking on the human body,
- 11:47Speaker 2: by taking on flesh, so that he could physically become
- 11:52Speaker 2: our big brother. It says, for which cause he is
- 11:56Speaker 2: not ashamed to call us brothers. I find that verse
- 12:00Speaker 2: it's really funny, because you know, you and I we
- 12:02Speaker 2: definitely want to relate to Jesus. You know, even people
- 12:05Speaker 2: who don't believe that Jesus is God. Pretty much everybody
- 12:09Speaker 2: can't deny that Jesus is good. You know, the figure
- 12:12Speaker 2: of Jesus is good. Even other religions that aren't Christianity
- 12:17Speaker 2: have a form of Jesus or say that Jesus was
- 12:19Speaker 2: a great man, or he was enlightened, or he was
- 12:22Speaker 2: a prophet of some sort. You know, everybody says that
- 12:26Speaker 2: Jesus is good. Everyone wants to relate to Jesus and
- 12:29Speaker 2: say that they are similar to Jesus or could become Jesus.
- 12:33Speaker 2: But Jesus has every single right to be ashamed of
- 12:37Speaker 2: us and not want to relate to us. I mean,
- 12:42Speaker 2: even humans don't like other humans.
- 12:45Speaker 1: You know.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I was just listening to a podcast, I think yesterday,
- 12:48Speaker 2: where at the very end of it, the guy was
- 12:50Speaker 2: like God, just send the media. Now, send the media,
- 12:53Speaker 2: because there's so much corruption. You know, it's time for
- 12:56Speaker 2: you to come back. Just wipe us all out. That's
- 12:59Speaker 2: what that guy was saying, because because we don't even
- 13:00Speaker 2: want to relate to each other, that's how much humans
- 13:03Speaker 2: dislike each other. But yet Jesus was not ashamed to
- 13:07Speaker 2: call us brothers and sisters, though he had every single
- 13:12Speaker 2: right to be ashamed of that. He related himself to us,
- 13:17Speaker 2: and that should show us how loved we are by God.
- 13:22Speaker 2: And here's what the Old Testament says about Jesus calling
- 13:24Speaker 2: us brothers. In verse twelve, it says, I will declare
- 13:27Speaker 2: your name to my brothers among the congregation. I will
- 13:30Speaker 2: sing your praise, and again I will put my trust
- 13:33Speaker 2: in him. And again, behold here I am with the
- 13:36Speaker 2: children whom God has given me. So those are three verses.
- 13:40Speaker 2: The first one is from Psalm twenty two, verse twenty two,
- 13:44Speaker 2: which says I will declare your name to my brothers
- 13:47Speaker 2: among the assembly, I will praise you. And interestingly enough,
- 13:51Speaker 2: Psalm twenty two is actually the Psalm that Jesus would
- 13:54Speaker 2: have quoted up on the cross. The very first verse
- 13:56Speaker 2: is my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
- 14:00Speaker 2: There are some people that say he quoted what was it,
- 14:02Speaker 2: four or five psalms up on the cross, and there's
- 14:05Speaker 2: a biblical argument that could be made for that. But
- 14:07Speaker 2: Psalm twenty two, we know Jesus quoted at least part
- 14:11Speaker 2: of that psalm up on the Cross. And here in
- 14:13Speaker 2: verse twenty two it's saying that Jesus called human beings
- 14:17Speaker 2: his brothers. And then also the other two verses that
- 14:21Speaker 2: Hebrews mentions here, which is I will put my trust
- 14:23Speaker 2: in Him, and behold, here I am with the children
- 14:26Speaker 2: whom God has given me. Those two verses are Isaiah eighth,
- 14:30Speaker 2: seventeen and eighteen, respectively, which says, I will wait for Yahweh,
- 14:35Speaker 2: who hides his face from the house of Jacob, and
- 14:37Speaker 2: I will look for him. Behold, I and the children
- 14:40Speaker 2: whom Yahweh has given me are for signs and for
- 14:43Speaker 2: wonders in Israel, from Yahweh of armies who dwells in
- 14:46Speaker 2: Mount Zion. So these verses are Jesus talking about putting
- 14:52Speaker 2: his trust in God's will, which is how he became
- 14:56Speaker 2: obedient right by putting the Father's will first and all,
- 15:00Speaker 2: so that God gave Jesus children to bring into glory.
- 15:05Speaker 2: So the author of Hebrews is basically making an argument
- 15:09Speaker 2: that the Old Testament backs up everything about Jesus, why
- 15:14Speaker 2: he had to become human and his reasoning for becoming human.
- 15:18Speaker 2: So so far we cover two reasons why Jesus had
- 15:21Speaker 2: to become human. The first being was so that he
- 15:23Speaker 2: could bring his children into glory and be made perfect
- 15:27Speaker 2: through testing his obedience through God's will. That's the first reason.
- 15:32Speaker 2: The second reason is so that Jesus could become a
- 15:36Speaker 2: brother to you and I, And the third reason is
- 15:41Speaker 2: listed here in verse fourteen. Since then the children have
- 15:45Speaker 2: shared in flesh and blood. He also himself in the
- 15:48Speaker 2: same way partook of the same that through death he
- 15:52Speaker 2: might bring to nothing him who had the power of death,
- 15:55Speaker 2: that is, the Devil, and might deliver all of them who,
- 15:59Speaker 2: through the fear of death, were all their lifetime subject
- 16:02Speaker 2: to bondage. So that's the third reason Jesus came to
- 16:05Speaker 2: earth was to bring death to nothing, and thus to
- 16:09Speaker 2: bring Satan to nothing as well. Basically, Jesus became human
- 16:15Speaker 2: in order to die, because God up in heaven on
- 16:19Speaker 2: his throne cannot die, but human beings can die, and
- 16:23Speaker 2: Jesus had to become human in.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Order to die.
- 16:28Speaker 2: And the reason he died, it says, to bring to
- 16:31Speaker 2: nothing the power of death, and also the devil. Before
- 16:36Speaker 2: Jesus died, death had power over us. But it doesn't
- 16:41Speaker 2: have that same power anymore because Jesus defeated death, because
- 16:46Speaker 2: as we know, since Jesus's God, he could not remain dead.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Nothing has more power than God, not even death. So
- 16:54Speaker 2: Jesus rose again from the third day and proved that
- 16:58Speaker 2: he was God. But he also made the power of
- 17:01Speaker 2: death so much smaller because Jesus was resurrected and he's
- 17:05Speaker 2: the only person in the entire world ever to be resurrected. Now, granted,
- 17:11Speaker 2: people have risen from the dead before, you know, we've
- 17:14Speaker 2: talked about that in the Old Testament, and also Jesus
- 17:17Speaker 2: raised the Lazarus from the dead, but that's different. Being
- 17:21Speaker 2: raised from the dead is not the same thing as resurrection.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Resurrection means that you have become immortal, you will never
- 17:28Speaker 2: die again. That is what resurrection is. Being raised from
- 17:33Speaker 2: the dead means that you're no longer dead, but you're
- 17:37Speaker 2: gonna die again. Resurrection is something completely different, and by
- 17:42Speaker 2: resurrecting from the dead, Jesus showed that death does not
- 17:46Speaker 2: have that much power, especially considering the fact that anybody
- 17:51Speaker 2: who believes in Jesus. He promised us that we will
- 17:54Speaker 2: also be resurrected as well. Every one of us is
- 17:58Speaker 2: going to have that immortal body that is never going
- 18:01Speaker 2: to die again. And if all of this is sounding
- 18:04Speaker 2: really fantastical to you, guys, I want to remind you
- 18:07Speaker 2: that after Jesus resurrected from the dead, he met about
- 18:10Speaker 2: four hundred witnesses that actually saw him. And these witnesses
- 18:15Speaker 2: are a lot of the people that actually wrote the
- 18:18Speaker 2: New Testament. And you might be like, well, jen those
- 18:20Speaker 2: people could be lying. But four hundred people lying, and
- 18:24Speaker 2: not to mention, what did they gain from their lie?
- 18:26Speaker 2: They gained nothing from it. They were just persecuted and
- 18:30Speaker 2: put to death and imprisoned. That was what they gained
- 18:34Speaker 2: for their lie. Why would anybody lie about that? If
- 18:36Speaker 2: that's the case, If Jesus was resurrected from the dead,
- 18:40Speaker 2: then all of this is true because it proves that
- 18:43Speaker 2: he is God. And if he is God, that means
- 18:47Speaker 2: that God walked among us and cares about us and
- 18:50Speaker 2: loves us and he told his disciples to go out
- 18:53Speaker 2: and preach all of these things to the entire world.
- 18:56Speaker 2: So I can definitely understand if it sounds fantastical to you,
- 19:00Speaker 2: but you kind of have to come to the conclusion,
- 19:02Speaker 2: is this true, does history prove this is true, which
- 19:06Speaker 2: I personally believe that it absolutely does, or is all
- 19:09Speaker 2: of this a lie? And if it's a lie, then
- 19:11Speaker 2: that means that the entire Bible and that Jesus himself
- 19:16Speaker 2: was a liar. And you're not going to listen to
- 19:19Speaker 2: a liar because that means he's not a good person.
- 19:22Speaker 2: If he's he's going around pretending to be God. So
- 19:26Speaker 2: you have to come to that conclusion. Jesus can't just
- 19:28Speaker 2: be a good man or a good prophet. He's either
- 19:32Speaker 2: God and all of this is true, or he's a liar.
- 19:35Speaker 2: But it says right here in verse fifteen that he
- 19:37Speaker 2: became human so that he could die and also give
- 19:42Speaker 2: no more power to the devil or to death, and
- 19:45Speaker 2: might deliver all of them who, through the fear of death,
- 19:48Speaker 2: were in all their lifetime subject to bondage. So before
- 19:52Speaker 2: Jesus came to earth, there was this deep fear of death,
- 19:55Speaker 2: and there still is that to this day, you know,
- 19:57Speaker 2: nobody wants to die.
- 19:58Speaker 1: We don't want to go through the process of death.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Even as Christians who understand what comes after death, nobody
- 20:04Speaker 2: wants to go through the suffering of death. We hate
- 20:07Speaker 2: it because it's not natural to us. I don't think
- 20:10Speaker 2: a lot of people understand that death is not natural.
- 20:13Speaker 2: We were not created to die. We were created to
- 20:16Speaker 2: actually live eternally with Jesus. Death came in because the
- 20:22Speaker 2: opposite of eternal life is death, and Adam and Eve
- 20:25Speaker 2: chose the opposite of eternal life. Unfortunately, so death is
- 20:30Speaker 2: not natural to us, and that is why.
- 20:32Speaker 1: We hate it.
- 20:34Speaker 2: We don't want to die. But because of what Jesus
- 20:37Speaker 2: did for us, giving us eternal life through his death
- 20:41Speaker 2: and through his sacrifice, we now don't have to fear
- 20:45Speaker 2: death the same way that people before Jesus had to
- 20:48Speaker 2: fear it, because we now know for certain where we
- 20:51Speaker 2: go after we die. Then, in verse sixteen, it says,
- 20:55Speaker 2: for most certainly he didn't give help to angels, but
- 20:58Speaker 2: he gives help to the offspring of Abraham. Therefore, he
- 21:02Speaker 2: was obligated in all things to be made like his brothers,
- 21:05Speaker 2: that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest
- 21:08Speaker 2: in things pertaining to God, to make atonement for the
- 21:11Speaker 2: sins of the people. So those two verses are talking
- 21:15Speaker 2: about the difference between humans and angels. Even though humans
- 21:21Speaker 2: were made a little bit lower than the angels, God
- 21:24Speaker 2: granted this salvation to us and not the angels, and
- 21:27Speaker 2: that also shows that Jesus is different from the angels
- 21:31Speaker 2: even through his humanity. So Jesus is nothing like the angels,
- 21:36Speaker 2: either as God or as a human. It says in
- 21:41Speaker 2: verse seventeen. Therefore, he was obligated in all things to
- 21:43Speaker 2: be made like his brothers, not like the angels, that
- 21:46Speaker 2: he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in
- 21:49Speaker 2: the things pertaining to God to make atonement for the
- 21:52Speaker 2: sins of the people. So that's the fourth reason why
- 21:54Speaker 2: Jesus became a human, so that he could become our
- 21:58Speaker 2: high priest. If you guys have been going through the
- 22:02Speaker 2: Old Testament with me, you know that a high priest
- 22:05Speaker 2: is somebody that makes atonement for the people, meaning he
- 22:09Speaker 2: says prayers for the people, he goes to God almost
- 22:12Speaker 2: like an intercessor, and he also teaches the people how
- 22:16Speaker 2: to live for God. That is the point of a
- 22:19Speaker 2: high priest. And now Jesus has become our high priest
- 22:23Speaker 2: because he understands us inside and out being a human being,
- 22:28Speaker 2: and he also understands in verse eighteen, this is the
- 22:31Speaker 2: fifth reason what temptation is like as well. That's the
- 22:36Speaker 2: last reason why Jesus had to come down to earth
- 22:39Speaker 2: was to relate to all of our different struggles that
- 22:42Speaker 2: we suffer through, to relate to all of our temptations
- 22:46Speaker 2: and our sufferings that we as human beings go through
- 22:50Speaker 2: on a day to day basis. Jesus was tempted in
- 22:53Speaker 2: every single way that you and I are, and being human,
- 22:57Speaker 2: he understands those temptations, which is another reason why he
- 23:02Speaker 2: became a human. And there's probably a myriad of other
- 23:05Speaker 2: reasons as well as to why it was best for
- 23:09Speaker 2: Jesus to become a human, but the main five points
- 23:13Speaker 2: is so that Jesus could become obedient through death and
- 23:18Speaker 2: bring his people to glory. Also so that he could
- 23:21Speaker 2: become our big brother, which in turn would help us
- 23:26Speaker 2: relate to him. And then thirdly it was to bring
- 23:29Speaker 2: death to nothing and also the power that Satan has
- 23:33Speaker 2: over us through death. Fourthly, it was to become our
- 23:36Speaker 2: high priest, and fifth to actually relate to us on
- 23:40Speaker 2: all of the sufferings and temptations that we go through,
- 23:44Speaker 2: so that we can bring these things to God, knowing
- 23:47Speaker 2: that He understands everything that we are dealing with, not
- 23:51Speaker 2: just because he is God, but because he experienced those
- 23:55Speaker 2: things himself. Well, friends and faithless, no, thank you so
