Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up Everybody in his
- 0:24Speaker 1: Draft week? This is the Season with Peter Schrager. This
- 0:27Speaker 1: is what we've been building towards. You've been listening to
- 0:29Speaker 1: this podcast for several weeks and it's been just more
- 0:33Speaker 1: draft content, more draft content, more draft content. We're finally
- 0:36Speaker 1: here and I want to give you more draft content.
- 0:38Speaker 1: We got great response from last week's two episodes. One
- 0:41Speaker 1: with Jim Naggy, the director of the Senior Bowl, who
- 0:44Speaker 1: knows a lot of these players inside and out from
- 0:46Speaker 1: his experience with them. And then I did a mock
- 0:49Speaker 1: draft with Daniel Jeremiah moved the six from NFL Network
- 0:53Speaker 1: and that went really well as far as listeners go.
- 0:56Speaker 1: So there's one more person I needed before we get
- 0:59Speaker 1: to the draft to do a mock draft with me.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It's a guy that I've been doing draft coverage with
- 1:03Speaker 1: since twenty thirteen when Fox Bourn one first was launched.
- 1:07Speaker 1: He's one of my favorite people in the world, a
- 1:09Speaker 1: true friend. He's also the lead college football analyst for
- 1:14Speaker 1: Fox Sports. You hear him on all of the Michigan
- 1:16Speaker 1: Ohio State games. You hear them at the Big Ten
- 1:19Speaker 1: Championship game every year, and I think he is as
- 1:22Speaker 1: hard working and plugged in when it comes to college
- 1:25Speaker 1: football as any one of the analysts you see on television.
- 1:29Speaker 1: His name is Joel Klatt. I'm gonna bring Joel in
- 1:31Speaker 1: in one second. I just wanted to really quickly give
- 1:33Speaker 1: you guys the layout of the programming schedule for the Draft.
- 1:37Speaker 1: So for me personally, I'll be on Good Morning Football
- 1:40Speaker 1: Monday and Tuesday. I will be off Good Morning Football
- 1:43Speaker 1: Wednesday as I fly to Kansas City, and then Thursday morning.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Good Morning Football is not only on NFL network, it
- 1:49Speaker 1: is on ESPN two as well, which is cool for us.
- 1:52Speaker 1: We do a simulcaska as we're kind of crossing over
- 1:54Speaker 1: content with them Friday morning Good Morning Football. Then Friday
- 1:59Speaker 1: night I will be on the Draft Dais if you will.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Joel will be on the main stage. I'll be on
- 2:05Speaker 1: the secondary stage with Ian Rappaport, and hopefully we're gonna
- 2:08Speaker 1: get a lot of airtime as the Aaron Rodgers trade
- 2:11Speaker 1: might go down on Day two. But of course, you
- 2:13Speaker 1: guys know, if you're listening, these NFL teams a lot
- 2:16Speaker 1: of their rosters are built on Day two of the draft.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Then Day three is my favorite day of the calendar
- 2:20Speaker 1: year for the NFL Draft. I will be on the
- 2:23Speaker 1: main stage with Daniel Jeremiah, Charles Davis, and Rich Eisen
- 2:27Speaker 1: and that'll be all day, sweltering in the sun in
- 2:30Speaker 1: Kansas City, just sweating through a suit. And of course
- 2:32Speaker 1: there's draft content all over the internet on Twitter and
- 2:35Speaker 1: all that. But I mentioned Joel's going to be joining us,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and just got to say, when it comes to Saturday
- 2:42Speaker 1: in those noon games, I am so proud of the
- 2:44Speaker 1: work that my brothers at Fox Sports and sisters have
- 2:47Speaker 1: put together to make that a marquee situation where you
- 2:50Speaker 1: know you're getting a huge game, whether it's the Big
- 2:52Speaker 1: ten or it's the Big twelve, and you know that
- 2:55Speaker 1: it's going to be an A Plus broadcast. And one
- 2:57Speaker 1: of the reasons is this guy. He's longtime friend. He's
- 3:00Speaker 1: played quarterback at Colorado and he has bounced around from
- 3:02Speaker 1: being a studio host to doing stuff on the sidelines,
- 3:05Speaker 1: to do a game analysts as a secondary team, and
- 3:09Speaker 1: then finally got the call up a few years ago
- 3:12Speaker 1: and has never looked back. He is now the lead
- 3:14Speaker 1: college football analyst for Fox Sports, and I couldn't be
- 3:17Speaker 1: happy to have him on the podcast. Joe Klatt, Welcome
- 3:20Speaker 1: to the season with Peter scheger Man.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I love this. This is so good. Thank you for
- 3:24Speaker 2: that introduction. You are a dear friend and unbelievable at
- 3:29Speaker 2: your job. So I can't wait to do this today
- 3:33Speaker 2: just to get a little draft content. And you know
- 3:35Speaker 2: I've said this before, but the draft is it's really
- 3:38Speaker 2: slow moving for a long time, and then right here
- 3:41Speaker 2: at the end, like the bell lap of the draft process,
- 3:44Speaker 2: the information starts flying around. You start hearing all sorts
- 3:47Speaker 2: of new things. And so this week is one of
- 3:50Speaker 2: my favorite weeks of the year. Obviously, I love the fall,
- 3:52Speaker 2: you love the fall, we all love that, right, But
- 3:54Speaker 2: when it comes to the offseason, it's really hard to
- 3:57Speaker 2: beat this week and draft on Thursday night. I can't
- 4:00Speaker 2: wait to get out to Kansas City and see you.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Brother.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're gonna be doing stuff for the NFL Network,
- 4:04Speaker 1: and I know you put the work in. I think
- 4:06Speaker 1: you come from it from a very different lens than
- 4:07Speaker 1: any of the folks on our NFL network, and certainly
- 4:11Speaker 1: from me. You called these guys games in colleges. And
- 4:14Speaker 1: before we get to the mock draft, I asked you
- 4:16Speaker 1: if you could just spend three minutes just empty the
- 4:20Speaker 1: bag on CJ. Stroud. You called eight different CJ. Stroud games,
- 4:24Speaker 1: which means you've played all these games out on film.
- 4:28Speaker 1: You've called them all on film, his biggest moments. You're
- 4:31Speaker 1: on the call for most of them. And you've also
- 4:34Speaker 1: gotten to know CJ. Stroud and you've also gotten to
- 4:36Speaker 1: speak with his coaches about c J. Stroud. His stock
- 4:39Speaker 1: isn't slipping, it's not plummeting as we record this on
- 4:42Speaker 1: a Monday, but it is up in the air. He
- 4:44Speaker 1: can gowhere from two to bottom of the top ten.
- 4:48Speaker 1: And a few weeks ago it felt like it was
- 4:50Speaker 1: a sure thing he would either go first or second.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I say the name c J. Stroud, Joel Klatt, empty
- 4:56Speaker 1: the notebook. What do you got?
- 4:57Speaker 2: Okay, lots of different angles on this, so I'll try
- 4:59Speaker 2: to go quickly. Let me first take the angle of
- 5:02Speaker 2: the opposing defensive coordinators in those eight games and what
- 5:06Speaker 2: they were saying. And you have to keep in mind
- 5:08Speaker 2: I did his very first game, his very first start
- 5:11Speaker 2: as a college quarterback against Minnesota on the road, It
- 5:13Speaker 2: was a Thursday night, the opener in twenty twenty one,
- 5:16Speaker 2: and I did his next to last start, a loss
- 5:19Speaker 2: to Michigan in his home stadium. I also saw him
- 5:22Speaker 2: in his third practice in spring as the starter that
- 5:24Speaker 2: spring before. Right, Like, I've been around this kid since
- 5:27Speaker 2: he was a red shirt and now all the way through.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Let me start with what the defensive coordinators have been
- 5:32Speaker 2: saying ever since his first start, and they all say
- 5:36Speaker 2: to him, man, elite arm will kill you. Kill you
- 5:41Speaker 2: if he has any sniff of what coverage you're in,
- 5:43Speaker 2: or Ryan Day has a sniff of what coverage.
- 5:45Speaker 3: You're in, You're dead. You're dead.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Because he plays on schedule and on time, and he's
- 5:51Speaker 2: accurate with the football and he's obviously throwing to what
- 5:53Speaker 2: has now become the best core of wide receivers in
- 5:56Speaker 2: football over the last couple of years. Think of the
- 5:58Speaker 2: core of wide receivers he had in twenty twenty one
- 6:00Speaker 2: with Chris o'lave and Garrett Wilson the reigning rookie of
- 6:03Speaker 2: the Year, and Jackson Smith and Jigbow who they all
- 6:05Speaker 2: say was better than all of them and now available
- 6:08Speaker 2: in this draft. This this is an elite passing game
- 6:11Speaker 2: in part due to what CJ. Stroud brings to the table.
- 6:15Speaker 2: They also all say that, and now let's go to
- 6:18Speaker 2: his coaching staff, they would all say he's very prepared,
- 6:23Speaker 2: very intelligent, learns the system incredibly fast, and has a
- 6:27Speaker 2: lot of control at the line of scrimmage. So maybe
- 6:30Speaker 2: a departure from what you're hearing from, you know, the
- 6:33Speaker 2: smoke that is being floated out here late in the
- 6:35Speaker 2: draft process about the S two score and his cognitive
- 6:39Speaker 2: ability and reaction time and everything that was never a
- 6:42Speaker 2: problem and never brought up. I've talked to to coaches
- 6:47Speaker 2: in college football at the time and they will tell me, hey,
- 6:50Speaker 2: like it, just it doesn't click right away. He has
- 6:54Speaker 2: to see it first. It has to be, you know,
- 6:57Speaker 2: black and white. He can't play in the gray area.
- 6:59Speaker 2: That was never brought up with CJ. Stroud, which is
- 7:01Speaker 2: why all of this smoke is quite interesting. From my standpoint,
- 7:07Speaker 2: Ryan Day has been higher on Stroud than he has
- 7:09Speaker 2: up to this point than he was even with Dwayne Haskins,
- 7:12Speaker 2: a first round quarterback, or even Justin Field's a first
- 7:15Speaker 2: round quarterback, and talking about how he's more prepared for
- 7:17Speaker 2: this moment than even those guys. All this to say,
- 7:22Speaker 2: I don't know where this is coming from. And if
- 7:25Speaker 2: Stroud slides, someone's going to get a hell of a player.
- 7:28Speaker 2: He's overcome a lot of adversity in his life, did
- 7:32Speaker 2: not have his dad around for a very specific reason
- 7:36Speaker 2: during the course of his upbringing, and overcame that. And
- 7:39Speaker 2: this guy is a solid man and a solid leader
- 7:41Speaker 2: in the locker room. If it sounds like I'm being
- 7:44Speaker 2: overly au my praise, it's because I believe in the kid.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I've been around him, I've been around his coaching staff,
- 7:52Speaker 2: and I've seen him play at an elite level. Just
- 7:55Speaker 2: ask Georgia the best defense in college football over the
- 7:57Speaker 2: last two years how good CJ.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Stroud is.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Because he almost drug an injured and depleted Buckeye team
- 8:04Speaker 2: past that Georgia team and probably would have won that
- 8:06Speaker 2: national championship if they were able to finish off that
- 8:08Speaker 2: game arm strength.
- 8:10Speaker 1: When you compare it to a Will Levis or an
- 8:12Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson, if he has to throw the deep ball
- 8:15Speaker 1: and it's cold weather and it's windy, can he get
- 8:17Speaker 1: it done.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Absolutely? Yeah, there's no doubt in my mind. In fact,
- 8:20Speaker 2: one of the things that he did best was play
- 8:23Speaker 2: action pass and when they would get that rhythm going
- 8:26Speaker 2: for Ohio State, his ability to attack down the field.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Was remarkable. It's it's a It's maybe not as as
- 8:38Speaker 2: prominent as a Will Levis just as far as pure
- 8:41Speaker 2: arm strength, but it's way smarter. And let me tell
- 8:45Speaker 2: you what I'm saying, Like Levis can can can play
- 8:49Speaker 2: a little bit like a relief pitcher with one pitch,
- 8:52Speaker 2: like it's a fastball man and it's coming and here
- 8:54Speaker 2: we go, and he's got that pitch, but he doesn't
- 8:58Speaker 2: play the game like a starting pitcher who needs four
- 9:01Speaker 2: pitches and needs to change speed and change location. CJ
- 9:07Speaker 2: can change speed and change location and throw the deep ball.
- 9:10Speaker 2: So he's got a much better command over trajectory, throw style, velocity,
- 9:20Speaker 2: all of those things than maybe a guy like Levis does,
- 9:22Speaker 2: who has a better pure arm as far as strength goes.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Great stuff. I appreciate you doing that. I'll add our
- 9:31Speaker 1: colleague at Fox, Brady Quinn, had a quote from a
- 9:34Speaker 1: podcast that he was on with CBS that went viral
- 9:37Speaker 1: and then there's more context to it, and I'm not
- 9:39Speaker 1: questioning you know what Brady said because he said it,
- 9:42Speaker 1: and there was a lot more that goes with it,
- 9:44Speaker 1: and Brady's been very positive about CJ. Stroud. We'll say this,
- 9:48Speaker 1: I have spoken around the league on the Manning thing
- 9:50Speaker 1: at the Manning Passing Academy, which the story was that
- 9:54Speaker 1: he didn't appear. He did give a heads up. He
- 9:57Speaker 1: stayed up there with Ohio State and his teammates there.
- 10:00Speaker 1: The Manning Passing Academy continued on and was okay without
- 10:04Speaker 1: c J. Stroud being there. There's no ill feelings from
- 10:07Speaker 1: the Manning family from what I gather, and it certainly
- 10:11Speaker 1: is not going to impact his draft stock in some
- 10:13Speaker 1: great way. That said, the noise, it adds to the
- 10:17Speaker 1: S two cognition test, it adds to you know whatever
- 10:20Speaker 1: else negatives And this is just a shame of the
- 10:22Speaker 1: draft season. Some of these guys are going to have
- 10:25Speaker 1: stories out there and for whatever reason, it's going to
- 10:27Speaker 1: come out at the worst time, an immediate thing. But
- 10:29Speaker 1: it's all washed away and fine when they get selected
- 10:33Speaker 1: at the NFL Draft's going to be the greatest moment
- 10:35Speaker 1: of his life. And I'm happy for him and I
- 10:37Speaker 1: don't think he's going to fall out of the top
- 10:38Speaker 1: ten by any means.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll see, we'll see how it goes, because I
- 10:41Speaker 2: think it's going to be as interesting a top five
- 10:44Speaker 2: as we've had in a long time, because we've got
- 10:46Speaker 2: quarterback drama and there's a lot of question about what
- 10:49Speaker 2: can happen. I think there could be some trades. I
- 10:52Speaker 2: think it could be wild. After that first pick, I
- 10:55Speaker 2: think we all think, you know, we all agree Caroline
- 10:57Speaker 2: is going to take Bryce Young and then it's like,
- 10:59Speaker 2: let's all hold our breath.
- 11:01Speaker 3: What's Houston going to do?
- 11:04Speaker 1: I'm going to do this mock draft with you this way.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So we had Daniel Jeremiah on. He was on the thing.
- 11:10Speaker 1: So we flipped a coin. Aaron, do we have our coin?
- 11:12Speaker 3: Oh? Do I have a coin?
- 11:14Speaker 1: Aaron's got a coin?
- 11:15Speaker 3: Oh, Aaron Scott, Okay.
- 11:16Speaker 4: I got a coin through the magic of the Internet.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Is there like an internet coin toss apps? Oh?
- 11:21Speaker 4: Of course, of course you do cont yeah kids these days,
- 11:26Speaker 4: so a coin? It is an ai coin? Yeah, Joel,
- 11:29Speaker 4: you are the visiting team. See, do you want to
- 11:31Speaker 4: pick heads or tails?
- 11:32Speaker 3: Tails? Always? You never pick heads?
- 11:35Speaker 5: All right?
- 11:35Speaker 4: And heads?
- 11:37Speaker 1: So, Peter, I get to kick off or defer, I
- 11:42Speaker 1: will kick off. I will put you in the hot
- 11:43Speaker 1: seat with those two and four picks, I'm gonna go
- 11:46Speaker 1: number one Carolina Panthers, and I will take Bryce Young
- 11:51Speaker 1: first overall, which leads to number two the Houston Texans. Joel,
- 11:55Speaker 1: this is a combination of what you would do, what
- 11:59Speaker 1: you think would happen. It doesn't. It's just an exercise.
- 12:01Speaker 1: It's not you predicting what you think is gonna happen.
- 12:03Speaker 1: We're gonna grade you against forty other mock draft experts
- 12:06Speaker 1: and get you a grade. It's just the Texans are
- 12:09Speaker 1: on the clock. What do you think happens or what
- 12:12Speaker 1: do you think should happen?
- 12:13Speaker 2: Okay, So I think that what's going to happen and
- 12:16Speaker 2: what should happen are the same thing. I believe that
- 12:19Speaker 2: at the end of the day, we're going to sit
- 12:20Speaker 2: back and be like this was all smoke, and you know,
- 12:25Speaker 2: let's let's give Houston some props for, you know, creating
- 12:31Speaker 2: some value in the selection, creating some interest, and letting
- 12:36Speaker 2: people know that maybe you know, it's not a done deal.
- 12:39Speaker 3: I think that they take CJ. Stroud.
- 12:41Speaker 2: I think it would be crazy if they didn't. They're
- 12:43Speaker 2: desperate for a quarterback. He's clearly to me, the second
- 12:47Speaker 2: best quarterback in this draft. Unless they're trying to wait
- 12:49Speaker 2: for next year's class and think that they're also going
- 12:52Speaker 2: to have one of the top two picks, then they've
- 12:54Speaker 2: got to take CJ.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Stroud.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I love it on to number three, the Arizona Cardinals. Now,
- 13:00Speaker 1: when I did this with Dana Jeremiah, we said no
- 13:02Speaker 1: trades for the sake of it. But I will let
- 13:04Speaker 1: it be known Arizona's trying to trade this. I don't
- 13:06Speaker 1: think if you're gonna trade it for fifty cents on
- 13:08Speaker 1: the dollar, but I think they might trade it for
- 13:10Speaker 1: eighty cents on the dollar. They need, they need, they
- 13:12Speaker 1: need people, they need bodies, they need prospects. So I
- 13:16Speaker 1: would look and I would call at this point, if
- 13:18Speaker 1: I'm Monty asin for it, I would call one of
- 13:20Speaker 1: my former teams at Tennessee Titans, and I'd say, please,
- 13:23Speaker 1: if you need a quarterback, we're at three, you're at eleven.
- 13:26Speaker 1: We're at a conference, Genessee, Jense, come on up, Come
- 13:30Speaker 1: on up, Tennessee. Ran Carthon is the new GM there.
- 13:35Speaker 1: He was with the Niners. They trained up to get
- 13:37Speaker 1: Trey lanceson number three a few years ago. Anyway, let's
- 13:40Speaker 1: say at three Cardinals on the clock. Let's get a
- 13:44Speaker 1: franchise pillar, a cornerstone. We are gonna draft Will Anderson third. Overall,
- 13:50Speaker 1: Alabama can't go wrong someone. This sounds really really, I
- 13:55Speaker 1: would say, almost as an insult, like a backhanded compliment.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Someone said, yeah, Tyree Wilson might be a complete strikeout
- 14:01Speaker 1: or a home run. Will Anderson is a solid double
- 14:04Speaker 1: or a triple. So I'm gonna say with if the
- 14:06Speaker 1: Arizona Cardinals that they keep it, let's go Will Anderson three.
- 14:09Speaker 1: And now, Joel, this is the money pick for the draft,
- 14:12Speaker 1: the one that I have so much intriguing. I said
- 14:14Speaker 1: today and Good Morning Football. I think it's the most
- 14:16Speaker 1: interesting selection of the entire draft. The Indianapolis Colts at four.
- 14:20Speaker 1: And when we have it, Bryce Young and c. J.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Stroud are off the board. Who do you go with?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Okay, so I've heard the talk about that they like
- 14:27Speaker 2: with Levis and Butt. I think that the better player
- 14:31Speaker 2: and the better upside and the better fit for the
- 14:33Speaker 2: Colts is going to be Anthony Richardson. And the reason
- 14:36Speaker 2: that I'm going to take Anthony Richardson is that you're
- 14:39Speaker 2: going to help Jonathan Taylor be more dominant for longer
- 14:43Speaker 2: in his career because as soon as Richardson can get
- 14:47Speaker 2: on the field, he's holding edges and creating within the
- 14:49Speaker 2: defense for the run game because of his athleticism. And
- 14:52Speaker 2: you give Richardson what he needs, which is a dominant
- 14:55Speaker 2: run game and the ability to throw play action pass
- 14:57Speaker 2: and utilize that strong arm. So it it's a good fit.
- 15:02Speaker 2: And I think that he is a better player than
- 15:04Speaker 2: Will Levis. So I'm going to go with Anthony richards
- 15:06Speaker 2: here at four.
- 15:07Speaker 1: All Right, I don't know if I'm breaking news here
- 15:08Speaker 1: because at the last twenty four to fourty eight hours,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I've heard a lot of Richardson too, the Colts talk too. Again,
- 15:15Speaker 1: I've heard a lot of Levis to the Colts talk.
- 15:16Speaker 1: I've heard love It to the Colts talks. It's the
- 15:19Speaker 1: start of this whole draft thing started. But there are
- 15:21Speaker 1: people in that building. I know for a fact that,
- 15:24Speaker 1: like Richardson, whether it's people making the decision or not,
- 15:27Speaker 1: is what needs to be seen. So that's not crazy.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson at four, which would mean to recap for
- 15:33Speaker 1: the listeners, as you're following along, and I watch you
- 15:35Speaker 1: guys to all follow along. Bryce Young to Carolina Texan
- 15:38Speaker 1: selects c J. Stroud A too, Will Anderson to the
- 15:42Speaker 1: Cardinals at three, Anthony Richardson to the Colts at four,
- 15:46Speaker 1: which leaves the Seahawks and they have a choice of
- 15:49Speaker 1: quarterback Will Levis sitting right there, or Hendon Hooker or
- 15:53Speaker 1: two really talented defensive players am Tyree Wilson and Jalen Carter.
- 15:58Speaker 1: If I am the Seahawks. Here I put the card
- 16:01Speaker 1: in and it is Tyree Wilson out of Texas Tech,
- 16:05Speaker 1: the outside edge rusher as opposed to the inside guy,
- 16:09Speaker 1: Tyrie Wilson, clean off the field, no red flags there.
- 16:14Speaker 1: They go at the cleaner prospect, Tyree Wilson. Fit over
- 16:17Speaker 1: all to the Seahawks.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Oh man, this is I thought you were going to
- 16:21Speaker 2: take Jalen Carter. So I'm thrown off here a little
- 16:23Speaker 2: bit because exercise is that I didn't think Jalen was
- 16:25Speaker 2: going to be available for the Lions, and so now
- 16:27Speaker 2: with the Lions, I'm a little stuck.
- 16:29Speaker 3: This is via the Rams.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Of course, they got the backstop later in the first
- 16:32Speaker 2: round with the eighteenth pick. They've got four picks in
- 16:35Speaker 2: the top fifty five. They need help on defense. I'm
- 16:38Speaker 2: going to stick with what I had, and I'm going
- 16:40Speaker 2: to leave Jalen on the board and take Christian Gonzales
- 16:44Speaker 2: the corner from four again. Here's the thing is like
- 16:47Speaker 2: without a Kuda, they need length on the outside, and
- 16:50Speaker 2: so I'm gonna take Christian Gonzales. And the reason is
- 16:53Speaker 2: I have a couple of tackles that I like a
- 16:56Speaker 2: lot that I could backstop this with at eighteen and
- 17:00Speaker 2: or in the second round. I've got tackles that I
- 17:03Speaker 2: like in both of those spots. So that's why I'm
- 17:05Speaker 2: going to take Christian Gonzalez. I think there's a little
- 17:06Speaker 2: gap between him and the other corners. Got to help
- 17:08Speaker 2: my past defense.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Wow, Raiders at seven, I can't have Jalen Carter in
- 17:14Speaker 1: Las Vegas? Can I can't. I can't. I don't know them.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I mean this sounds like I'm being some like, you know,
- 17:21Speaker 1: complete Neanderthal talking. Just put it. I just I just
- 17:24Speaker 1: know Vegas. If there is any temptation to get into trouble,
- 17:26Speaker 1: Vegas is the place, and I'm not going there. I
- 17:29Speaker 1: will go with the hard hitting, one hundred and eighty
- 17:33Speaker 1: pound new to football relatively speaking, big ten corner. We
- 17:38Speaker 1: have two corners off in the first seven. I'm going
- 17:39Speaker 1: Devin Weatherspoon seven to the Raiders. We have two corners
- 17:43Speaker 1: off the board six and seven. Let's quickly recap Panthers
- 17:47Speaker 1: one Bryce Young Texans two C. J. Stroud Cardinals three
- 17:51Speaker 1: Will Anderson Colt four, Anthony Richardson Seahawks, five, Tyree Wilson
- 17:58Speaker 1: Lion six Christian Gonzales out of Oregon, Raiders seven, Devin
- 18:03Speaker 1: Wetherspoon out of Illinois. Jalen Carter Will Levis still on
- 18:07Speaker 1: the board. Falcons are on the clock.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Okay, so.
- 18:12Speaker 2: They will know Jalen Carter as well as anybody. I
- 18:16Speaker 2: think they take him. I mean he's right down the street,
- 18:19Speaker 2: right so I think I'm going to go Jalen right there.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So ask you philosophically speaking, because this is what the
- 18:25Speaker 1: beauty of this mock draft is. We can poke a
- 18:27Speaker 1: couple questions here and there and it's going to be
- 18:29Speaker 1: rapid fire. Yes, he's right Athens is in his backyard.
- 18:35Speaker 1: He got in trouble in Athens. That is that wise?
- 18:38Speaker 1: Do you say or do you or do you say?
- 18:42Speaker 1: He's the best player on the board and just wait
- 18:44Speaker 1: till we get him in our building. It's not going
- 18:46Speaker 1: to be an issue.
- 18:47Speaker 2: How do you if you have ways both ways, right,
- 18:50Speaker 2: I think like if you're if you're convinced, if you're
- 18:53Speaker 2: trying to convince yourself, you say that the setting is
- 18:56Speaker 2: not a minus but a plus. If you're trying to
- 18:59Speaker 2: say like, well we can't do that, then you say like, well,
- 19:01Speaker 2: he can't be in this environment. It would have been
- 19:03Speaker 2: better in Seattle as far away from from here as
- 19:06Speaker 2: you can possibly get to remove him, you know, from
- 19:08Speaker 2: this environment. But the other part of this is when
- 19:12Speaker 2: when I'm selecting here my board, the only other player
- 19:17Speaker 2: that's remotely in the hemisphere of Jalen Carter is Vijon Robinson,
- 19:22Speaker 2: and so like, I think they take the tackle here.
- 19:25Speaker 2: I don't think Atlanta is going to go running back.
- 19:27Speaker 2: So I'm gonna go with Jalen Carter more on value
- 19:30Speaker 2: than anything.
- 19:31Speaker 1: All right. Number nine the Bears, I was planning on
- 19:35Speaker 1: taking Weatherspoon or Gonzales. They're both gone. I would think
- 19:39Speaker 1: they have to, huh. I think they like their offensive line.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I was thinking you could go Paris Johnson here. Scar
- 19:47Speaker 1: is nine too early for a guard because that's what
- 19:49Speaker 1: I think Scarnsky probably ends up playing.
- 19:52Speaker 2: But he's a little speaking of down the road, right,
- 19:53Speaker 2: I mean he's right there as well.
- 19:55Speaker 1: I know he's in the backyard. And then Vjon Robinson
- 19:58Speaker 1: is floating there. If you want to just have a
- 20:00Speaker 1: dynamic playmaker with fields, you know what, give me Peter
- 20:05Speaker 1: Scarnsky out of the Northwestern Just give me a mauling.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I'm not like doing flips or anything.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I'm all you know what that is? Now, that's like
- 20:14Speaker 3: an Eagles esque pick.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Yeah, right, like kind of disciplined, stay in the trenches.
- 20:21Speaker 2: But now the Eagles are up, they've got the best
- 20:23Speaker 2: roster in football, at least that's my opinion. I don't
- 20:27Speaker 2: know if you agree with that. And they've gotten there
- 20:30Speaker 2: with those discipline picks, Like I was talking about the trenches,
- 20:33Speaker 2: but now you've got the chance to give Jalen Hurts,
- 20:37Speaker 2: the best offensive player in the draft, the biggest threat
- 20:39Speaker 2: in the draft. Bijon to the Eagles. I've got it
- 20:42Speaker 2: in my mock. You've got it in your mock. I'm
- 20:44Speaker 2: taking it in this mock as well. Bjon Robinson to
- 20:47Speaker 2: the Eagles.
- 20:48Speaker 1: All right, that's that's awesome. Eleven the Titans. Will Levis
- 21:01Speaker 1: is looking at me right in the eyes, just staring
- 21:03Speaker 1: at you he's staring at me, but so is the hooker.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And he's a local talent. And I get a year
- 21:10Speaker 1: with Tannehill and we can kind of grow. Or do
- 21:14Speaker 1: I go wide receiver and say just defensive Paris Johnson
- 21:19Speaker 1: out of Ohio State. The Tennessee Titans take their future
- 21:23Speaker 1: offensive tackle and they get him there, and they pass
- 21:26Speaker 1: on both quarterbacks Texans on the board.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I means, okay, so they already got their quarterback because
- 21:33Speaker 2: I've got them CJ. And I'm going to give them,
- 21:36Speaker 2: like CJ's college teammate, the best wide receiver in the draft.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I'm taking Jackson Smith and Jigba wide receiver from Ohio State.
- 21:44Speaker 2: This might be a fool's errand to chase these guys
- 21:47Speaker 2: on the outside, regardless of who takes Jackson Smith and Jigba,
- 21:51Speaker 2: I just want to plant the flag.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Peter.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I think he's the best receiver in the draft. Okay,
- 21:55Speaker 2: if you go back to twenty twenty one, I covered
- 21:58Speaker 2: him extensively with Brian Hartline his position coach, Ryan Day,
- 22:02Speaker 2: his offensive coordinators, last head coach with j Stroud, with
- 22:07Speaker 2: Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson. To a man, they would
- 22:12Speaker 2: have all said and did to me several times. Jackson
- 22:16Speaker 2: Smith and Jigba is the best player on our offense.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I think we forget that because he was out with
- 22:21Speaker 2: that hamstring injury. This is a guy that I do
- 22:23Speaker 2: believe can based on his position and the volume that
- 22:27Speaker 2: he can produce, he will lead the league in receptions
- 22:30Speaker 2: at some point in his career. I think in the
- 22:32Speaker 2: first five years.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Bold bold, clip that off, Aaron clip it off. That's
- 22:37Speaker 1: going viral. I love that. That is a bold take.
- 22:41Speaker 1: That entire spiel on JSN when I've been told Joel
- 22:45Speaker 1: this might make you sick. There are no blue chip
- 22:47Speaker 1: wide receivers in this draft.
- 22:49Speaker 3: That's why.
- 22:50Speaker 2: And he's not a pure outside guy, so I'm not
- 22:53Speaker 2: I'm not going to push against that was Cooper cup
- 22:55Speaker 2: of a blue chip wide receiver when he came out.
- 22:58Speaker 3: No, no he's not. But what is he a production machine?
- 23:02Speaker 1: I'm on rass Saint Brown, same thing, yes, the same.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Thing, Like this guy can get you one hundred and
- 23:06Speaker 2: twenty catches. He just so, I didn't say he's the
- 23:10Speaker 2: best receiver, I know. I said I think he can
- 23:13Speaker 2: lead the league in receptions. You know, pretty much in
- 23:16Speaker 2: the vein of Cup and I'm on Ross Saint Brown.
- 23:18Speaker 2: That's that's the style. The slot specialist really understands space,
- 23:23Speaker 2: really quick, lateral quickness, smooth through the catch point.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Really love his game.
- 23:28Speaker 1: If the Texans were to come out of the top
- 23:30Speaker 1: twelve picks and said they got C. J. Stroud and
- 23:33Speaker 1: Jackson Smith Najigbo, would you say that's an a draft
- 23:37Speaker 1: in the first round.
- 23:38Speaker 3: I don't know, and I made the picks.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know either, I think so, I don't know.
- 23:44Speaker 1: They would be their starting quarterback and their number one
- 23:46Speaker 1: wide receiver right out of the gates.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you know that, and I think it would be
- 23:49Speaker 2: an a draft, but I think, you know, truth be told,
- 23:51Speaker 2: it would it would take some time. Smith and Jigbo
- 23:54Speaker 2: would reach his potential faster with a veteran and a
- 23:58Speaker 2: solid offense.
- 23:58Speaker 3: But we'll see.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Jets at thirteen. They're going to go offensive line here.
- 24:04Speaker 1: I'm going to go with Broderick Jones out of Joe
- 24:06Speaker 1: the big tackle, safe ish pick. I think he's considered
- 24:11Speaker 1: one of the top tackle prospects, and you're protecting whoever
- 24:14Speaker 1: the asset is at quarterback, most likely Aaron Rodgers Patriots fourteen,
- 24:19Speaker 1: who do you got.
- 24:20Speaker 3: Don't love.
- 24:21Speaker 2: I don't love this part of the draft for these teams,
- 24:25Speaker 2: you know, I feel like they have too many needs
- 24:27Speaker 2: for the players available. I wanted to go offensive tackle
- 24:31Speaker 2: as well. There for the Patriots, it's a couple there.
- 24:34Speaker 2: I think I'll stay I'll stay offensive tackle. This is
- 24:38Speaker 2: probably a little high for him, but I'm gonna go
- 24:40Speaker 2: Darnell right the tackle from Tennessee.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Okay, all right, Darnell write to the Patriots tackle out
- 24:46Speaker 1: of Tennessee, which gives me the Packers. It's it's time
- 24:49Speaker 1: for the Packers to do something they've never done when
- 24:51Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers was the quarterback. That's take a wide receiver
- 24:55Speaker 1: tight end the first round. I'm actually gonna surprise you.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna go tight end, and please empty
- 24:59Speaker 1: the bag on what you got from this guy. Dalton
- 25:01Speaker 1: Kincaid at a Utah. I had never heard of him
- 25:04Speaker 1: until I watched him in a college game and I
- 25:06Speaker 1: was like, who's this. I think I texted you about him.
- 25:09Speaker 1: You covered a bunch of his games, Dalton Kincaid, what's
- 25:12Speaker 1: the story on him?
- 25:13Speaker 3: Okay?
- 25:14Speaker 2: So, really good basketball player in his youth, and admittedly
- 25:18Speaker 2: wanted to focus on basketball told recruiters that early in
- 25:21Speaker 2: his high school days, which is why he was Peter.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I would just call it like lightly recruited. So he's
- 25:27Speaker 2: got to start his college career not at San Diego State,
- 25:30Speaker 2: but San Diego of old you know Jim Harball.
- 25:33Speaker 5: Or from Waybreros.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right.
- 25:36Speaker 2: So then he transfers to Utah and eventually develops he's
- 25:41Speaker 2: got that basketball on grass type of mentality where he
- 25:45Speaker 2: can flex out and be a real weapon for your offense.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Led the FBS in terms of tight end production with
- 25:51Speaker 2: about eight hundred and ninety almost nine hundred yards, and
- 25:55Speaker 2: he didn't really even become the focal point of their
- 25:57Speaker 2: offense at Utah until Brent Keithy went down another player
- 26:01Speaker 2: on their offense. But I will say Kincaid and Cam
- 26:04Speaker 2: Rising had a an amazing rapport between the two of them.
- 26:09Speaker 2: And this is a team that just went to back
- 26:11Speaker 2: to back Rose Bowls, by the way, and you know,
- 26:14Speaker 2: I'm a big fan of Kincaid. I could easily see
- 26:18Speaker 2: him being the best tight end in this draft. He's
- 26:20Speaker 2: not quite as versatile as a guy like Michael Maher
- 26:23Speaker 2: the tight end at your game, but only because Mayor
- 26:27Speaker 2: is an excellent blocker. Excellent blocker, Kincaid, probably a better
- 26:31Speaker 2: receiver mayor probably better all around if you're looking for
- 26:35Speaker 2: someone to also be kind of a sixth offensive lineman
- 26:37Speaker 2: and flex out and give you something in space.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Got it all right? I like that we're fifteen and
- 26:43Speaker 1: sixteen is the Washington Commanders. What do you got, Joe?
- 26:46Speaker 3: Okay?
- 26:47Speaker 2: So, buddy, I think this is a weird pick. Again again,
- 26:55Speaker 2: I don't love them. I love the lad the first
- 26:58Speaker 2: it's a weird draft, and so the middle from from
- 27:01Speaker 2: from the Titans, really the Texans at twelve until we
- 27:05Speaker 2: get to really like the Seahawks at twenty. You get
- 27:08Speaker 2: a bunch of teams that need a lot of things
- 27:10Speaker 2: and players in those areas that are kind of like, uh,
- 27:14Speaker 2: are we gonna take him? I think there's gonna be
- 27:16Speaker 2: a lot of waiting until the end of the clock
- 27:18Speaker 2: trying to trade out. So it's gonna be a long night,
- 27:21Speaker 2: in particular in the middle of the draft, and they're
- 27:23Speaker 2: gonna be waiting, waiting, waiting, and then they'll just kind
- 27:25Speaker 2: of run up and the like, well, he's kind of
- 27:27Speaker 2: the best player at our position of need. That being said,
- 27:30Speaker 2: I think Washington one pick before where he would probably
- 27:34Speaker 2: want to go. Is gonna take Joey Porter Jick corner
- 27:38Speaker 2: from Penn State.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Okay, take it. I think I read the stat he
- 27:44Speaker 1: had one interception at Penn State, but he's only thrown
- 27:47Speaker 1: at thirty times last year.
- 27:48Speaker 3: So make what you do with that aggressive.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna stick at corner. You go sixteen, you go corner,
- 27:55Speaker 1: I go seventeen at corner. That means four corners, which
- 27:58Speaker 1: has become a premium position in the league. I'm gonna
- 28:01Speaker 1: go corner for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Deontay Banks at.
- 28:04Speaker 3: A Maryland man. Okay, wow, see this is you know
- 28:07Speaker 3: what's happening right now, and it always happens.
- 28:09Speaker 1: When you guys go quicker than you thought.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Right, It's exactly right because it creates a run. And
- 28:14Speaker 2: this is what happens in the draft, right, it creates
- 28:16Speaker 2: a run on absolutely, So we've already had now a
- 28:19Speaker 2: run on two different positions. Right, offensive line and corner
- 28:24Speaker 2: have come off maybe faster than we anticipated if we
- 28:27Speaker 2: were doing this on our own.
- 28:29Speaker 1: I'm looking at it right now. Just for the listeners,
- 28:31Speaker 1: We'll go from eleven on. So eleven was Paris Johnson
- 28:36Speaker 1: which is a shock to everyone that they would go
- 28:38Speaker 1: oh line instead of quarterback. I just don't know if
- 28:39Speaker 1: Levis or Hooker is what they're looking to do. Texans
- 28:43Speaker 1: twelve wide receiver Jackson Smith NIJIGBA Jets thirteen, Broderick Jones
- 28:48Speaker 1: offensive tackle, fourteen Patriots Darnel Wright offensive tackle, Packers, Dalton
- 28:53Speaker 1: Kincaid tight end, Commander's Joey Porter junior corner, Steelers at seventeen,
- 28:59Speaker 1: Deontay Banks corner. Now we are up to the Lions
- 29:02Speaker 1: at eighteen. Joel, you're on the.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Clock, all right, little bit of a free pick here, right,
- 29:07Speaker 2: because I think that they got I like what they
- 29:11Speaker 2: got with Gonzales, and think about this, adding a really
- 29:15Speaker 2: disruptive interior lineman. And now all of a sudden you've
- 29:19Speaker 2: got Hutchinson, which you really like, I would, you know,
- 29:22Speaker 2: excellent player, and then you pair him with a pass
- 29:25Speaker 2: rushing tackle Elijah Kntsey from Pitt, Okay. The guy had
- 29:30Speaker 2: huge production. By the way you look at his career.
- 29:34Speaker 2: He played in thirty six games at Pitt, thirty seven
- 29:37Speaker 2: tackles for loss. That's a tackle for loss per game,
- 29:40Speaker 2: which is unheard of.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Two and eighty pound defensive tackle. Are we a little
- 29:44Speaker 1: worried about that? Are we okay with that?
- 29:46Speaker 2: When you're producing like that? And he's the first unanimous
- 29:49Speaker 2: All American at PITT since Aaron Donald, the guy that
- 29:52Speaker 2: we all love. Maybe in the same type of mold
- 29:55Speaker 2: quickness and power both. He's not three hundred pounds, but
- 29:59Speaker 2: from the three tech position on the outside shade of
- 30:01Speaker 2: the guard, he can produce a lot of numbers in
- 30:04Speaker 2: the backfield.
- 30:06Speaker 1: All right, nineteen Will Levis is still on the board
- 30:09Speaker 1: and the Buccaneers are there, But gosh, they've invested in
- 30:13Speaker 1: Kyle Trask. They I'm really having a hard time here.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Do they really want to take a quarterback and then
- 30:21Speaker 1: put themselves in this bind where they got the fourth
- 30:24Speaker 1: quarterback and they did it at nineteen? Where do they
- 30:27Speaker 1: want to go? I mean, it's like, this is the
- 30:29Speaker 1: questions you're asking. You're like, is it so good of
- 30:31Speaker 1: a value?
- 30:32Speaker 2: I think this is the worst pick in the draft.
- 30:35Speaker 2: I said that every time I did the mock for myself.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I got the nineteen and I.
- 30:40Speaker 6: Was just like, I I don't know, yeah, and I
- 30:45Speaker 6: don't think there's any Let me ask you this, Yeah,
- 30:49Speaker 6: what do you think the Bucks need the most offensive line, and.
- 30:54Speaker 2: They've already had a run of offensive linemen. This happened
- 30:56Speaker 2: in my own mock right, like, I think you're reaching
- 30:58Speaker 2: at offensive line if you take one right here, shregs,
- 31:02Speaker 2: because you've already had the run on the top offensive lineman.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I know, I know. And now, like the clock is
- 31:08Speaker 1: like up right now. And oh and I'm literally on
- 31:12Speaker 1: the internet like googling, like you know, a top offensive lineman,
- 31:16Speaker 1: like this is an embarrassing.
- 31:17Speaker 3: You're looking at something like Osiris Torrance at nineteen.
- 31:21Speaker 1: I can't do that. I'm actually I mean, is this
- 31:24Speaker 1: what happens in the front offices? They start googling when
- 31:27Speaker 1: they're on the clock.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Isn't this one?
- 31:29Speaker 2: They just take the best player available. They just look
- 31:31Speaker 2: at their board and they're just like take him.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, So let's just go through it.
- 31:38Speaker 4: Here.
- 31:39Speaker 1: You got Michael Mayer, You've got Nolan Smith, who's kind
- 31:42Speaker 1: of slipped here in our draft. You've got Will Levis,
- 31:49Speaker 1: give me Michael Mayer. Tight end, tight end, I mean,
- 31:55Speaker 1: they've really taking a tight tight end to the bucks.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Did not see that happening before we started this, But
- 31:59Speaker 1: tight end to the bucks. Michael Mayer at a Notre
- 32:01Speaker 1: Dame goes nineteenth overall, did not see that.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Dude, wouldn't Seattle so excited if this happened, because.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Levis is sitting there if they want them or Hooker.
- 32:12Speaker 2: And that's I did not see that happening. I thought
- 32:15Speaker 2: that they were going to go edge here. But that's
- 32:18Speaker 2: because I didn't give them edge at five. You gave
- 32:20Speaker 2: them edge here. So to recap at five, Peter, you
- 32:24Speaker 2: gave them Tyree Wilson. Correct, Yeah, okay, so Tyree's at five.
- 32:29Speaker 2: I would have gone like a Nolan Smith or a
- 32:31Speaker 2: Miles Murphy there, but they already got like they're not
- 32:34Speaker 2: going to take two edge rushers. I think Seattle goes
- 32:37Speaker 2: quarterback there, So which one? Now, it's what I would
- 32:43Speaker 2: do versus what I think they'll do. I would take
- 32:46Speaker 2: hindon Hooker.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Really, I'll make that argument because I think a lot
- 32:49Speaker 1: of people are in the league are saying that more
- 32:50Speaker 1: and more and Hooker over Levis is. Hooker's twenty six
- 32:54Speaker 1: years old with a torn up ACL. It's tough to swallow.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Hooker also just set the completion percentage record at Tennessee
- 33:02Speaker 2: in a downfield passing offense. You know, this was not
- 33:05Speaker 2: just a bunch of of flip screens and like so
- 33:09Speaker 2: the offense that he ran at Tennessee is very similar
- 33:12Speaker 2: to the Baylor offense under Art Briles back from the
- 33:15Speaker 2: you know, the early teens and then two thousand, Yeah,
- 33:18Speaker 2: the Bryce Petty days, the RG three days, and it's
- 33:21Speaker 2: predicated on half field reads, which isn't great, but half
- 33:24Speaker 2: field reads and then post snap wide receiver read routes,
- 33:28Speaker 2: deep read routes. Okay, so they run kind of from
- 33:31Speaker 2: a two receiver set, and Jalen Hyatt in this case,
- 33:34Speaker 2: who had a phenomenal year Blittankough Award winner, he would
- 33:37Speaker 2: read the coverage and he could take it vertical or
- 33:40Speaker 2: hook it up and run it kind of a ten
- 33:41Speaker 2: yard hook and hooker. His whole job was to not
- 33:46Speaker 2: retreat in the pocket, wait and have patients and then
- 33:48Speaker 2: be on the same page with the wide receiver and
- 33:50Speaker 2: then from that what I would call the short area
- 33:54Speaker 2: in the pocket. He had to have great accuracy down
- 33:57Speaker 2: the field and anticipation in this post snap read route
- 34:01Speaker 2: really hard to be efficient in and he threw for
- 34:03Speaker 2: over seventy percent. So I think NFL of evaluators are
- 34:07Speaker 2: going to look at this and be like, man, this
- 34:08Speaker 2: guy is not intimidated to push the ball down the field.
- 34:11Speaker 2: He threw it very accurately. He's very mature. He got
- 34:14Speaker 2: better every single year, and he was the reason that
- 34:17Speaker 2: this program in Tennessee was able to get over the
- 34:19Speaker 2: hump and actually beat Alabama. So he was great in
- 34:22Speaker 2: big games, in particular in that Alabama game. And when
- 34:25Speaker 2: you measure that against Will Levis, and you look at
- 34:28Speaker 2: the turnovers for Levis, you look at Levis's history being
- 34:32Speaker 2: maybe not even a dominant high school player, losing a
- 34:34Speaker 2: job to Sean Clifford, not really being dominated at Kentucky.
- 34:38Speaker 2: Those turnovers, like I said, and some boneheaded mistakes on
- 34:43Speaker 2: the field not off because Levis is a terrific person.
- 34:47Speaker 2: I think they go hendon Hooker, So a long dissertation
- 34:49Speaker 2: there to land on Hooker.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Twenty one's the Chargers, and I think they'd be really
- 34:54Speaker 1: happy with how this worked out. They don't need a quarterback,
- 34:57Speaker 1: and I'm looking at three names. I'm looking at Lucas
- 35:01Speaker 1: van Ness, who has now slipped all the way here.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I'm looking at Nolan Smith, who has slipped all the
- 35:05Speaker 1: way here. But I think they might give their guy,
- 35:09Speaker 1: another pass catcher. I'm gonna go Jordan Addison out of
- 35:12Speaker 1: USC to the LA Chargers. He stays close to home.
- 35:17Speaker 1: And another pass catcher for Justin Herbert.
- 35:20Speaker 2: I thought you were gonna go Quinton Johnston there, just
- 35:23Speaker 2: to give him an outside target.
- 35:25Speaker 3: That's interesting.
- 35:26Speaker 1: You are up with the Ravens at twenty two and
- 35:28Speaker 1: we have a quarterback still on the board.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Oh my gosh. If this happens, the ratings are going
- 35:36Speaker 3: to be through the roof right on the board.
- 35:39Speaker 1: But does levis I feel like there are more guys.
- 35:44Speaker 2: There are guys that fit the Ravens, and they are
- 35:47Speaker 2: such Ravens picks. Okay, I'm going Nolan Smith, edge player
- 35:52Speaker 2: from Georgia, and everyone's going to be like, of course,
- 35:55Speaker 2: Baltimore got Nolan Smith. Everyone loves Nolan Smith in this draft.
- 35:59Speaker 2: He's productive anchor alpha of the best defense in college
- 36:03Speaker 2: football over the last two years. And I think he's
- 36:05Speaker 2: a good scheme fit for what Mike McDonald does at
- 36:08Speaker 2: Baltimore because of what Georgia does and kind of an
- 36:11Speaker 2: odd defense, and he can play the edge as a
- 36:13Speaker 2: stand up player.
- 36:14Speaker 3: I'm going Nolan Smith.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Which gives me the vikings. I don't think Will Levis
- 36:19Speaker 1: is what the Vikings are doing. But we need to
- 36:22Speaker 1: get Bill Levis off the board in the first round.
- 36:24Speaker 2: I mean this is where if Levis is there, you
- 36:26Speaker 2: would be thinking about like someone's trading.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Someone's trading back up to Lucas van Ness is like
- 36:35Speaker 1: a Iowa Minnesota, like on the carpet. Give me Will
- 36:42Speaker 1: Levis here at twenty three. Wow, with an asterisk in
- 36:47Speaker 1: that this pick will be swapped to somebody else.
- 36:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good asterisk.
- 36:53Speaker 1: We got him off the board.
- 36:55Speaker 3: That was more about getting him off the board.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I can't go a whole round without him being drafted.
- 37:00Speaker 1: So there you go, Levis, Your night is over.
- 37:04Speaker 3: All, Right, Jags, Let's see what we got available here?
- 37:08Speaker 3: M what do we think that, what do we love?
- 37:10Speaker 3: What do we think the Jags need? I'm looking here.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Surprisingly, the Jaguars are pretty much well loaded at each position,
- 37:19Speaker 1: and they're set up for the future, So you could
- 37:20Speaker 1: really go best player available here.
- 37:22Speaker 2: If if that's the case. In my mock, I had
- 37:27Speaker 2: him taking Brian Branch, you know, but I'm not going
- 37:30Speaker 2: to do that here. Okay, I do like Brian Branch,
- 37:34Speaker 2: Though's really good. I'm going to stay there. I'll stay there.
- 37:39Speaker 2: I'll go Brian Branch. He's one of the names that
- 37:41Speaker 2: I'm hearing. I'm sure you're hearing, like I think he's
- 37:43Speaker 2: He's a first round guy. He can kind of play
- 37:47Speaker 2: Nickel played the kind of that that hybrid safety position
- 37:52Speaker 2: that Minka Fitzpatrick played at Alabama. Their smartest player, They've
- 37:58Speaker 2: told me, by the way, like Brian's going to know
- 38:00Speaker 2: the defense better than some of the veterans in camp.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Like that's how smart he is. So I'll go Brian Branch.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Okay, Giants, I'm here in this backyard. The Saquon thing
- 38:12Speaker 1: is at a standstill. Jamir Gibbs is sitting right there.
- 38:15Speaker 1: But I also know they want to get Can you
- 38:17Speaker 1: imagine Daniel Jones another wide receiver. Let's have fun, Jamir Gibbs,
- 38:20Speaker 1: Alabama goes to the Giants at twenty five, have your
- 38:24Speaker 1: franchise tag and enjoy.
- 38:25Speaker 3: It, buddy. Can you imagine.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's how the NFL works. It's a brutal business,
- 38:30Speaker 1: it is.
- 38:32Speaker 3: By the way, I love Gibbs. I love his game.
- 38:35Speaker 3: He's not quite Saquon, but boy's versaally can catch it.
- 38:38Speaker 3: I like.
- 38:38Speaker 5: I like that okay, all right, cowboys, Oh cowboys, did.
- 38:49Speaker 3: You take vanes s?
- 38:51Speaker 1: I did not. He's still on the board.
- 38:56Speaker 2: Do you just go defense here and like load up
- 38:59Speaker 2: and you've got like Micah rushing and Vaness rushing and
- 39:02Speaker 2: then you just create, like, hey, how do you beat
- 39:04Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts?
- 39:05Speaker 3: You just follow him up. That's a lot of sense.
- 39:08Speaker 3: That's where Lucas van Ness from from Iowa.
- 39:12Speaker 1: I had van Ness and the top ten pick when
- 39:14Speaker 1: we started this whole thing, and I he said nothing
- 39:16Speaker 1: wrong from now to that. But to go to twenty six,
- 39:19Speaker 1: it's like just how the draft shuck out? Just what
- 39:21Speaker 1: it is. Uh, Bill's give me Quintin Johnson. Give me
- 39:25Speaker 1: a big outside receiver to go at digs and those guys.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Quentin Johnson, he's a downfield like uh I would call
- 39:33Speaker 2: him like a combat catch specialist.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Who's a good comp in the NFL for him.
- 39:38Speaker 3: I'm really bad at that trip.
- 39:40Speaker 1: Yeah, So what's like, He's just he's sixteen.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Lengthy, six to two, can jump. Not the cleanest route runner.
- 39:47Speaker 1: And Mike Williams there is not that's all like not.
- 39:50Speaker 3: Quite that tall.
- 39:51Speaker 2: He can make the easy catch look hard and then
- 39:54Speaker 2: the hard catch look really easy hockey Nicks.
- 39:57Speaker 1: How about that?
- 39:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I'm not bad. I wouldn't complain about that.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Johnston would be perfect for Josh Allen though. You talk
- 40:05Speaker 2: about like give Josh one of those players that he
- 40:07Speaker 2: can just be like, I'm gonna throw it up as
- 40:10Speaker 2: as far as I can and this guy's gonna come
- 40:12Speaker 2: down with it.
- 40:13Speaker 3: That would be Johnston. All right? Where am I now? Bengals?
- 40:18Speaker 2: I mean, do we do we protect him or do
- 40:20Speaker 2: we give him a threat? The age old question, right,
- 40:24Speaker 2: protect him or do we give him a threat? I
- 40:29Speaker 2: don't love the offensive lineman there, so it's it's probably
- 40:32Speaker 2: threat or defense.
- 40:35Speaker 1: I love bit noise. We both made it.
- 40:37Speaker 3: Yeah, it's to.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Me, it's either Zay or Darnell Washington. It's either Zay
- 40:45Speaker 2: Flowers or Darnell Washington. And I don't think that they
- 40:49Speaker 2: need a wide receiver. And Darnell can help in the
- 40:51Speaker 2: run game because he can act as a sixth offensive
- 40:54Speaker 2: lineman dominant blocker. I'll go Darnell Washington, the tight end
- 40:58Speaker 2: from Georgia.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, Darnell Washington over Sam Laporta out of Iowa.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Do you know Laporta's game at all I do.
- 41:08Speaker 4: I know it.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Well, he's Washington's a better blocker, so you can help
- 41:12Speaker 2: a run game out with Washington as well as get
- 41:15Speaker 2: some of the production Laporta. I like Laporta, but he's
- 41:19Speaker 2: not as dominant at the point of attack. Is that
- 41:22Speaker 2: a name that you're hearing as like the first rounder?
- 41:25Speaker 1: Potentially the tight end group is like Kincaid and Mayer,
- 41:28Speaker 1: and you can flip those and it's Washington, Laporta and
- 41:32Speaker 1: Musgrave is getting a lot of lovely.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Luke Muskrave from Oregon State, by the way, you know what,
- 41:38Speaker 2: Luke Musgrave great skier as a kid, great skier in Oregon.
- 41:43Speaker 3: You wouldn't think about that. But he went up to
- 41:45Speaker 3: Mount Hood. He was on like a junior ski team.
- 41:47Speaker 3: And then his uncle is is Bill.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Yeah, great offensive coordinator for many years in the league. Okay,
- 42:02Speaker 1: I love this mock draft so far. Let me recap
- 42:05Speaker 1: real quick from twenty on.
- 42:08Speaker 3: So Buck, this is a tandem is hard.
- 42:12Speaker 1: It's great, isn't it? Because it's like it doesn't fit
- 42:14Speaker 1: your own puzzle. You have to adjust. Nineteen the Buccaneers
- 42:18Speaker 1: in a bind where I literally was googling top one
- 42:21Speaker 1: hundred players in draft because I didn't know what the
- 42:23Speaker 1: hell to do. Michael Mayer tight end Notre Dame. That
- 42:27Speaker 1: was nineteen twenty Seahawks Hendon Hooker, quarterback Tennessee.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Oh that would explode the draft.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Chargers twenty one. Jordan Addison wide receiver, USC Ravens twenty two.
- 42:39Speaker 1: Nolan Smith goes with fellow Georgia Bulldog Rokwan Smith to
- 42:43Speaker 1: the Ravens. Twenty two. Will Levis twenty three to the
- 42:47Speaker 1: Vikings with a giant asterisk likely traded. Twenty four Jaguars
- 42:52Speaker 1: Brian Branch, twenty five, Giants, Jamiir Gibs out of Alabama,
- 42:57Speaker 1: twenty six Cowboys Lucas van Ness out of Iowa, twenty seven, Bills,
- 43:02Speaker 1: Quinton Johnson twenty eight Darnell Washington Saints at twenty nine.
- 43:08Speaker 1: I will go Say Flowers out of Boston College. Just
- 43:14Speaker 1: a playmaker, and I feel like he has done really
- 43:18Speaker 1: well in the pre draft process. I don't want to
- 43:20Speaker 1: get the number wrong. I think he's one of eight siblings.
- 43:26Speaker 1: It could be more than.
- 43:27Speaker 3: That, and it is it is more. I've got it's
- 43:30Speaker 3: fourteen fourteen siblings.
- 43:33Speaker 1: I think he's the.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Eleventh of eleventh, ten boys, four girls, his mom actually
- 43:39Speaker 2: passed away in two thousand and five.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Was he was raised primarily by his father.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Wow, what a family story for him to make it
- 43:47Speaker 1: to the NFL first round pick and gosh, the Saints
- 43:51Speaker 1: obviously have talent all over the field, but they are
- 43:55Speaker 1: always looking for another weapon. Derek Carr would be more
- 43:57Speaker 1: than happy to get Save Flowers. We have two picks
- 44:00Speaker 1: left in the first round and several guys who have
- 44:02Speaker 1: been mocked to first rounds throughout everyone else's mock draft.
- 44:06Speaker 1: But we're gonna go Eagles at thirty. Joe Klatt, you're
- 44:08Speaker 1: on the board.
- 44:09Speaker 2: So this you would have to tell me? Would they
- 44:16Speaker 2: go tackle defensive tackle?
- 44:19Speaker 1: Defense? They got Jordan Davis last year. Jalen Carter would
- 44:22Speaker 1: be one, but I don't know if they would go
- 44:24Speaker 1: for like a third tier defensive tackle in the first
- 44:27Speaker 1: round they get, you know.
- 44:29Speaker 3: What, I like a guy.
- 44:30Speaker 2: You know I'm gonna go this is this is actually
- 44:32Speaker 2: a good fit here because you could argue that, like, yeah,
- 44:35Speaker 2: they could take edge right, a little pass rush, and
- 44:38Speaker 2: my best available on the board is Miles Murphy from Clemson.
- 44:42Speaker 2: Take them, So I'm gonna take Miles Murphy from Clemson.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Miles Murphy from Clemson. All right, weird year because of
- 44:51Speaker 1: the Dolphins losing a pick. We now just have one
- 44:55Speaker 1: final pick and it's at thirty one, and it's the
- 44:58Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs. Can go anywhere here, I've already got.
- 45:05Speaker 4: Now.
- 45:05Speaker 1: My sneaky thing is I like the running back to them.
- 45:07Speaker 1: But I just took him to the Giants at twenty
- 45:09Speaker 1: five at Gibbs.
- 45:11Speaker 3: Yeah see, I kept thinking like a Gibbs or is
- 45:14Speaker 3: a Flowers here?
- 45:15Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah?
- 45:17Speaker 3: But they're both gone.
- 45:18Speaker 1: They're both gone. And gosh, wow, a little early for
- 45:27Speaker 1: my guy Mingo, who I've been pumping up a little
- 45:29Speaker 1: early for my guy Marvin Mims, a little early for
- 45:33Speaker 1: Josh Downs. I'm looking at the wide receivers here.
- 45:36Speaker 3: What about a Jalen Hyatt.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Jalen Hyatt? How about this one last pick of the
- 45:44Speaker 1: first round defensive tackle at a Michigan Mazzie Smith. Wow,
- 45:54Speaker 1: he called all those Michigan games. Yeah, can you give
- 45:56Speaker 1: us a little something? He is in no first rounds anywhere,
- 45:59Speaker 1: and yet there's been some late buzz that he might
- 46:02Speaker 1: be top forty maybe who knows? Thirty one? What's Mozzi
- 46:05Speaker 1: Smith's deal?
- 46:05Speaker 2: So in order to know about Mazi, you got to
- 46:08Speaker 2: know the intent behind their defensive structure change over the
- 46:12Speaker 2: last two years. So Jim can't get over the hump
- 46:15Speaker 2: of Ohio State, right, and he went to his brother
- 46:18Speaker 2: John and he's like, I got to change defenses. I
- 46:20Speaker 2: need a coordinator. So John gave him two names. These
- 46:23Speaker 2: two young coaches who have both worked with John, been
- 46:27Speaker 2: in the Ravens system. They want to incorporate the Ravens system.
- 46:30Speaker 2: He gives them these two names, Mike McDonald and Jesse Minter,
- 46:34Speaker 2: and so Jim interviews them both and says, I like
- 46:36Speaker 2: them both. And Jim says, well, you got to pick one.
- 46:38Speaker 2: So he picks Mike and they go on to have
- 46:41Speaker 2: a great year, go to the playoff, win the Big Ten,
- 46:43Speaker 2: beat Ohio State, right, and.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Hes to Baltimore.
- 46:46Speaker 2: And then Mike goes back to Baltimore to be the
- 46:48Speaker 2: defensive coordinator.
- 46:49Speaker 3: So what did Jim do.
- 46:50Speaker 2: He said, well, I want the other guy. So Jesse
- 46:52Speaker 2: Mintor comes in after spending one year I believe at Vanderbilt,
- 46:55Speaker 2: and Jesse Mintter comes in. Doesn't change the scheme because
- 46:58Speaker 2: the whole thing was to run the Baltimore defense, all right,
- 47:02Speaker 2: So the Baltimore defense is predicated on, at least at
- 47:04Speaker 2: the college level. The way Michigan incorporates it is that
- 47:07Speaker 2: the first thing that you have to do is build
- 47:09Speaker 2: a run wall. You do that with your defensive tackles.
- 47:12Speaker 2: You build these guys that you're not asking for production.
- 47:14Speaker 2: All you're doing is asking for stalemates, big, heavy, thick,
- 47:19Speaker 2: aggressive guys that you're just gonna You're just gonna steimy
- 47:22Speaker 2: the offensive line and then let your hybrid players run.
- 47:24Speaker 2: So then you build hard edges on the outside, guys
- 47:26Speaker 2: like Aiden Hutchinson, right, Mike Morris from this last year
- 47:29Speaker 2: that can rush the quarterback, hybrid linebackers, good cover corners
- 47:33Speaker 2: like DJ Turner, who we're going to hear in this
- 47:36Speaker 2: draft as a corner for Michigan, and then safeties that
- 47:38Speaker 2: can run and cover as well. That's kind of the
- 47:40Speaker 2: Baltimore defense as Michigan incorporates it. So the number one
- 47:44Speaker 2: thing that they had to find first and foremost was
- 47:47Speaker 2: a defensive tackle. Mike McDonald and Jesse Mintter walk in,
- 47:52Speaker 2: and the first thing that they see and notice is
- 47:55Speaker 2: this defense is gonna work. Not because of Aiden Hutchinson,
- 47:58Speaker 2: not because of DJ Turner, not because of any of
- 48:01Speaker 2: these guys, but because of Mazzy Smith over the last
- 48:04Speaker 2: couple of years, and so Mazi was the anchor of
- 48:07Speaker 2: this defense to allow everybody else to produce around him
- 48:11Speaker 2: because of what they asked him to do. He's a
- 48:13Speaker 2: hard worker, great in the locker room, and all the
- 48:17Speaker 2: coaches rave about what he is and what he provided
- 48:20Speaker 2: for them. There's a little backstory about Mazie and the
- 48:22Speaker 2: Michigan Wolverines.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Isn't that fun for the listeners? You press a button
- 48:26Speaker 1: and Joel can just go. And that is why I
- 48:28Speaker 1: love him, and especially with the big ten guys, because
- 48:30Speaker 1: when you do a dozen Michigan games over the past
- 48:34Speaker 1: two years, when you do a dozen Ohio State games,
- 48:37Speaker 1: you're gonna know stories that no one else does. They're
- 48:38Speaker 1: gonna have insights no one else does. Now, Aaron, I'm
- 48:41Speaker 1: gonna let you get back on the mic if you're
- 48:42Speaker 1: willing to. Can you give us one to thirty one
- 48:46Speaker 1: recap this thing. I don't want any analysis in between.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Just give us pick team name, selection and let's let
- 48:53Speaker 1: it sink in and then Joel will say goodbye afterwards.
- 48:56Speaker 1: All right?
- 48:56Speaker 4: To start number one, The Panthers have bryce young quarterback two,
- 49:00Speaker 4: the Texans take quarterback CJ. Stroud. Cardinals at three, take
- 49:03Speaker 4: Will Anderson edge. Colts at four, take Anthony Richardson quarterback.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Seahawks at five, edge rusher Tyree Wilson. Lions at six,
- 49:12Speaker 4: take Christian Gonzales quarter cornerback. Raiders at seven, take Devin Weatherspoon,
- 49:17Speaker 4: also a cornerback. Falcons at eight. Take Jalen Carter the
- 49:21Speaker 4: defensive tackle. The Bears at nine, take Peter Scarnsky offensive line.
- 49:25Speaker 4: Eagles at ten take Bjeon Robinson the running back. Titans
- 49:29Speaker 4: at eleven, take Paris Johnson offensive line. Texans at twelve
- 49:32Speaker 4: take Jackson Smith and jigbu to pair him up with Stroud.
- 49:36Speaker 4: Jets at thirteen, take Broderick Jones ot. Patriots at fourteen
- 49:40Speaker 4: take an ot. They take Darnell Wright Packers at fifteen,
- 49:43Speaker 4: take Dalton Kincaid tight end, Commanders at sixteen, Joey Porter
- 49:47Speaker 4: junior cornerback. Steelers at seventeen, missing out on Porter junior,
- 49:52Speaker 4: take Deontay Banks cornerback Lions at eighteen, Elijah Cansey defensive
- 49:58Speaker 4: tackle nineteen Buccaneers, Michael Meyer tight end Seahawks at twenty,
- 50:03Speaker 4: Hendon Hooker quarterback Chargers twenty one. Jordan Addison wide receiver,
- 50:07Speaker 4: Ravens at twenty two. Take Nolan Smith edge rusher Vikings
- 50:11Speaker 4: at twenty three. Most likely trade the pick away and
- 50:14Speaker 4: take someone takes Will Levis quarterback. I can get him
- 50:17Speaker 4: off the board Jaguars at twenty four. Take Brian Branch cornerback,
- 50:22Speaker 4: Giants at twenty five. Take Jamior Gibbs running back, Cowboys
- 50:25Speaker 4: at twenty six. Take Lucas van Ness edge rusher, the

- 50:42Speaker 4: at thirty one with Mazzy Smith defensive tackle.
- 50:45Speaker 1: Nicely Don nicely, Don, Joe, I'm exhausted, buddy, that was
- 50:50Speaker 1: come on, I want to get a burger or something, Joel,
- 50:54Speaker 1: Where can we find your content online? As we head
- 50:57Speaker 1: towards the draft and then empty the daily planner? Where
- 51:01Speaker 1: can we see you draft weekend?
- 51:03Speaker 3: There we go.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Okay, so first off, you can follow so everything that
- 51:07Speaker 2: I do, you know on a weekly basis at the
- 51:10Speaker 2: Joel Clatt Show and you can find that on any
- 51:12Speaker 2: of the social media's at Joel Clatt Show or go
- 51:14Speaker 2: download it wherever you get your podcasts. So that usually
- 51:18Speaker 2: drops at least every Monday. And I've got to by
- 51:21Speaker 2: the way, I'm gonna pub right now for the first time.
- 51:24Speaker 2: I've got a summer series coming on the podcast that
- 51:26Speaker 2: I am really excited about.
- 51:30Speaker 3: We're sitting down.
- 51:30Speaker 1: Are you going on the road.
- 51:32Speaker 2: We're going on the road, and we're sitting down face
- 51:34Speaker 2: to face with the most influential voices, powerful voices in
- 51:39Speaker 2: all of college football. Nick Saban, Ryan Day, Greg Sankei,
- 51:45Speaker 2: the commissioner of the SEC, new Big Ten commissioner, Tony Pettiti,
- 51:48Speaker 2: Big Twelve Commissioner, Brett Yormark, Lincoln Riley, Dion Sanders.
- 51:53Speaker 3: We're sitting down with all of them.
- 51:55Speaker 2: They'll be released every Monday during the course of the summer,
- 51:58Speaker 2: starting probably June fifth.
- 51:59Speaker 1: I love this, so excited to have we started filming
- 52:03Speaker 1: them already.
- 52:03Speaker 3: Yes, we've got four or three of them done already.
- 52:07Speaker 1: So you've been on the road, yep.
- 52:09Speaker 2: April's been a busy month, so we've got that. Okay,
- 52:12Speaker 2: So that's the podcast. This week, I'll be on with
- 52:16Speaker 2: you on the NFL Network Thursday night on the Main
- 52:19Speaker 2: Desk with Rich and DJ and CD, as well as
- 52:22Speaker 2: Friday night. So that's where I'm at there. You can
- 52:25Speaker 2: find me in the fall doing the big noon game
- 52:28Speaker 2: with Gus. And I got to tell you, man, it's
- 52:33Speaker 2: Peter and I got to know each other when we
- 52:35Speaker 2: were both just pumping it man, like at Fox, we
- 52:40Speaker 2: were grinding, we were going to mobile and we're covering
- 52:43Speaker 2: everything that we could possibly cover. And we're sitting backstage
- 52:47Speaker 2: next to Vander Holyfield at a Snoop concert at a
- 52:50Speaker 2: super Bowl in Phoenix and looking at each other like
- 52:52Speaker 2: how did we get invited?
- 52:53Speaker 3: And then Randy Moss is like I invited.
- 52:55Speaker 2: You and like weird stories like that, right, And I
- 52:59Speaker 2: could not be more proud and more happy for Peter
- 53:03Speaker 2: and what he's done in his career, And obviously I
- 53:04Speaker 2: feel it super fortunate for what's happened over the last
- 53:07Speaker 2: eight ten years in mine as well.
- 53:09Speaker 3: So I appreciate being on this show.
- 53:11Speaker 1: I think we both have a lot of great feelings
- 53:13Speaker 1: for each other. I think we're both very grateful for
- 53:14Speaker 1: the bosses that Fox for letting us be us too.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Back then, Fox Sports Won was this burgeoning network. It
- 53:21Speaker 1: was before all the debate shows became the daily schedule.
- 53:25Speaker 1: There was a couple of shows called America's Pregame Fox,
- 53:28Speaker 1: Fox Football Daily and Fox Sport Live. These were shows
- 53:33Speaker 1: that you probably didn't see much of, but when you
- 53:36Speaker 1: talk about Malcolm Gladwell, in the ten thousand Hours, Joel
- 53:39Speaker 1: and I got to get all the reps we ever
- 53:42Speaker 1: needed so that when the big call up came, we
- 53:44Speaker 1: were ready. And gosh, Joel and I went to a
- 53:47Speaker 1: Marcus Mariota pro day in Oregon. We went to a
- 53:50Speaker 1: Jamis Winston pro day at Florida State. We have been
- 53:54Speaker 1: to multiple Senior Bowls. You and me sitting on those bleachers,
- 53:59Speaker 1: you know, just introducing ourselves to as many people as
- 54:01Speaker 1: we could around the league and say what you want
- 54:03Speaker 1: about us online and hate on us while you call
- 54:06Speaker 1: it game, or hate on me while eero good Morning football.
- 54:08Speaker 1: Two of us busted our asses. And I'm so happy
- 54:10Speaker 1: to see that you've had all the success you have
- 54:12Speaker 1: because there's no better guy, and there's no better family man.
- 54:14Speaker 1: And I'm I'm getting sentimental because it's now we're ten
- 54:17Speaker 1: years from those days.
- 54:18Speaker 2: All right, He's like, what's going on here? This is
- 54:20Speaker 2: turning into a big emotional fest. How's by the way,
- 54:25Speaker 2: how's everything going with the new family member?
- 54:28Speaker 1: And great? We got a baby girl name named Betty Erica.
- 54:32Speaker 1: My wife is holding it down as I'm kind of
- 54:35Speaker 1: doing my thing. But I am happy to say that
- 54:38Speaker 1: my son, mel who is six and a half years
- 54:40Speaker 1: oldest really been great and Julia like this playing flag
- 54:44Speaker 1: football for the first time. He's playing with older kids.
- 54:46Speaker 1: He's on a team with seven and eight year olds. Bro,
- 54:50Speaker 1: He's like Barry freaking Sanders, Yes, let's go. I don't
- 54:55Speaker 1: know where he has twitchiness. I don't know where the
- 54:57Speaker 1: twitchiness comes from. This dude is stuck. I know, I
- 55:02Speaker 1: know it's not me.
- 55:03Speaker 4: There.
- 55:04Speaker 1: They are the Bengals. They had a big win against
- 55:07Speaker 1: the Eagles yesterday, and I'm there. I'm so proud, so happy.
- 55:10Speaker 1: But I'm like already critiquing some of his things. All right,
- 55:12Speaker 1: I got to stop being that dad. I'm just happy
- 55:15Speaker 1: for him. I'm the guy who's got the kid playing
- 55:17Speaker 1: with the older kids, So I love it.
- 55:19Speaker 3: Dude, that's so good.
- 55:20Speaker 2: I'm coaching one of my boys in flag football right
- 55:23Speaker 2: now in spring flag football. The youngest one, middle one
- 55:27Speaker 2: is also playing. My youngest is six, Theodore, and he
- 55:31Speaker 2: plays a little quarterback for us. And their team allowed
- 55:35Speaker 2: like a lower division team to score a touchdown. And
- 55:39Speaker 2: I brought them all together and I was like, guys, boys,
- 55:41Speaker 2: I just want you to know that was totally unacceptable.
- 55:46Speaker 4: You and me.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Can you get me a okay, So listen real quick,
- 55:48Speaker 1: because I think everyone listening is in the draft, but
- 55:51Speaker 1: you also might have kids. All right, So my kids
- 55:54Speaker 1: six and a half. I live in Brooklyn, New York.
- 55:56Speaker 1: There is on one hand the amount of kids who
- 55:59Speaker 1: have gone on to play in the NFL who live
- 56:00Speaker 1: in Brooklyn, New York.
- 56:01Speaker 3: I think it's like.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Curtis Samuel and maybe like you know, like Ernie Garfing
- 56:06Speaker 1: goal from the nineteen forties, you know, and they play
- 56:10Speaker 1: in a park and it's there's it's a couple of reps.
- 56:13Speaker 1: But you're in Orange County, California, where I have to
- 56:17Speaker 1: imagine it is just a slew Like Bryce Young probably
- 56:21Speaker 1: came out of your flag football league. So who are
- 56:24Speaker 1: some of the other dads in this league? If you can, My.
- 56:27Speaker 2: Gosh, that's a that's a good one. Okay, So I'll
- 56:29Speaker 2: give you my next door neighbor. He's got I'll just
- 56:32Speaker 2: talk about his his he's got three daughters, played in
- 56:35Speaker 2: the league for seven years.
- 56:36Speaker 1: Not going to say his name just yet, but he
- 56:39Speaker 1: has bezos okay, no go one, no, no, no no.
- 56:42Speaker 2: He he has three daughters and on one of his
- 56:46Speaker 2: daughter's soccer team. The starting lineup of dads on that
- 56:52Speaker 2: soccer team is Corey mcghetty.
- 56:55Speaker 1: Okay, from the NFL, from the NBA.
- 56:57Speaker 2: I love them, Nick folesh and Evan Moore, who is
- 57:02Speaker 2: my neighbor seven years. And by the way, Evans brother
- 57:07Speaker 2: played international professional basketball. Yes, And so these these little
- 57:13Speaker 2: girls roll out there and they are throttling all these
- 57:17Speaker 2: other teams in this soccer league, and the dads are
- 57:20Speaker 2: standing over there and it's like six ' five minimum.
- 57:23Speaker 2: It's like Nick Foles is the smallest guy on the
- 57:25Speaker 2: dad's sideline and he's enormous, right, So they're holding it down.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Okay, And I know that I think your kid was
- 57:33Speaker 1: in Matt Liner's kids league.
- 57:35Speaker 2: Who's not the Matt Liner league. And this is where
- 57:38Speaker 2: like the high school that all the really good players
- 57:41Speaker 2: go to from where I live I'll go to modern
- 57:44Speaker 2: day and this is Bryce, This is Matt Lioner, this
- 57:48Speaker 2: is Matt Barkley.
- 57:49Speaker 3: This is that whole lineage.
- 57:50Speaker 1: Are your kids going to modern day or is it too?
- 57:53Speaker 3: Probably not, We'll see last one.
- 57:55Speaker 1: You're a Colorado guy, Can I be Can I be
- 57:58Speaker 1: the one to put some dampening of water on this stuff?
- 58:00Speaker 3: Or don't you dare don't you dare? Well? We're in
- 58:03Speaker 3: a honeymoon face right?
- 58:04Speaker 1: He has Twitter. I go on Twitter Saturday. The amount
- 58:09Speaker 1: of dorks who come out of the world are like,
- 58:12Speaker 1: that's why you get you know, you get Dean to
- 58:14Speaker 1: win games. This was fun. But Joe, slow down, Colorado football,
- 58:18Speaker 1: slow down? This is Look, do you understand the impact
- 58:21Speaker 1: he's making? No, I want to see Dion coach in
- 58:24Speaker 1: a big game, and then I'm excited for them too.
- 58:27Speaker 1: But I'm just trying to manage expectations.
- 58:28Speaker 3: Bro Well, let me let me listen, let me push
- 58:31Speaker 3: back on that.
- 58:32Speaker 2: All right, I'm going to take your water on the
- 58:34Speaker 2: throat out because look at Alabama as a great example
- 58:37Speaker 2: in two thousand and seven. You know when they hired
- 58:40Speaker 2: Nick Saban, they had around I think it's like I
- 58:43Speaker 2: want to say, it was like eighteen thousand students and
- 58:46Speaker 2: they're at Alabama, and now I think it's somewhere in
- 58:50Speaker 2: the thirty one thirty two there's.
- 58:53Speaker 1: A David Shula guy. I think they should have stayed
- 58:55Speaker 1: with him.
- 58:56Speaker 2: All right, Well they didn't because now they've got thirteen
- 58:58Speaker 2: thousand more students at the University of Alabama. And if
- 59:02Speaker 2: you just give a low estimate to what those thirteen
- 59:04Speaker 2: thousand students are paying intuition to the University of Alabama,
- 59:08Speaker 2: do you know what Nick Saban means to Alabama? Yeah,
- 59:11Speaker 2: about a mile of a billion dollars annually, right, And
- 59:16Speaker 2: so that's gonna happen at Colorado. The just from an
- 59:20Speaker 2: academic standpoint, Also, I would say this, they just sold
- 59:23Speaker 2: out the spring game ten bucks a ticket. They couldn't
- 59:25Speaker 2: they couldn't give away a thousand tickets for like the
- 59:28Speaker 2: ridings on Ralfie before it was pleak. And they just
- 59:32Speaker 2: sold out their season ticket a lot man for the
- 59:34Speaker 2: next fall. So they're gonna they're gonna make From an
- 59:36Speaker 2: athletic department standpoint, they're already plus twenty million dollars in
- 59:41Speaker 2: margin just on ticket sales year over year from last
- 59:44Speaker 2: year to this year, so he he this is why
- 59:47Speaker 2: you get Dean. There is a business element to this,
- 59:49Speaker 2: but it is going to have to go win games.
- 59:51Speaker 2: And by the way, gust and I might call came
- 59:54Speaker 2: their first couple of games.
- 59:56Speaker 1: I'll tell you I was being sarcastic. I am so
- 59:58Speaker 1: excited that Deon stuff because honestly, I worked with an
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: NFL network and I grew up like you did, I'm sure,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: with Deon posters and wanted to be Deon Sanders. Here.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I am this white Jewish kid from New Jersey with
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: like Dion Sanders twenty one Falcons channel. So then I
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: get to work with him an NFL network and you
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: might have your own expectations on like who do has me?
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: There isn't a nicer, cooler, more down to earth like
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: good intentions, doesn't drink, doesn't like do anything.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Dion is the man.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: So I I was so excited to see him come
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: to Colorado. My only question was, and you're gonna have
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: to report it here not Now you're the lead analyst
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: at Fox, did you get approached to be the offensive coordinator?
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Was there any conversations? Now? No, no, no, no, no,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: no no no, no, okay, I would have liked that
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: it would have been fun. Joe Klatt awesome. We'll see
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: you this week.
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: I can't wait to see you in Kansas City.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: Very cool guys. So who everyone's listening? Thanks listening. We're
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: going to have one more podcasts this week, either right
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: before the draft or after the first round. I got
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: to decide. Me and Aaron are figuring that out. Uh
