Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I got a message from a listener by the name
- 0:02Speaker 1: of Kate earlier this morning, and I'll just read it
- 0:05Speaker 1: out for you. It said, Hi, Katie, can you please
- 0:08Speaker 1: put an urgent message out to listeners from Durak and
- 0:11Speaker 1: Driver to look out for a silver Everest mobility scooter.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We bought it as a Christmas present from my elderly dad.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Gave it to him brand new yesterday and it was
- 0:22Speaker 1: stolen from our house last night. His old one doesn't
- 0:25Speaker 1: go the scooter in his well. The scooter is his legs,
- 0:30Speaker 1: it's his independence. It was cited at about four o'clock
- 0:33Speaker 1: in the morning now I believe it was this morning
- 0:36Speaker 1: near the golf club. But joining me on the line
- 0:38Speaker 1: right now is Kate. Good morning to you.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Kate Mine, Katie.
- 0:43Speaker 3: How are you, oh mate? Better than you by the
- 0:46Speaker 3: sounds of it, tell me what happened.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I'm got it. Dad just drove from Alice Springs up
- 0:52Speaker 2: to stay with us for Christmas. He drove the whole
- 0:55Speaker 2: way all by himself. He can't even get out a car,
- 0:57Speaker 2: and I'm we surprised him with scooter, brand new, shiny one.
- 1:03Speaker 2: He tested it out yesterday and then last night he
- 1:06Speaker 2: happened to leave the key in it. Of course, it's
- 1:10Speaker 2: gone this morning and it's been on joy rides all
- 1:12Speaker 2: through Jirat golf course. It's been siders, witnesses have seen
- 1:16Speaker 2: a Caucasian adult male, it's not kids. And we've had
- 1:21Speaker 2: the police around. We've got yeah, oh, no idea where
- 1:28Speaker 2: it is. We've been driving around looking all morning and
- 1:31Speaker 2: dad can't walk and.
- 1:33Speaker 1: This is disgraceful, honestly. Oh, Kate, I bet you are.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I bet you devastated. You know, things like this are
- 1:42Speaker 1: not cheap for a start, but by the sounds of it,
- 1:46Speaker 1: beautiful gifts for you to give to your dad.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we're just about to go over to Lake our
- 1:53Speaker 2: golf for Christmas, and that was going to be an
- 1:56Speaker 2: independence so he could tool around and do what he
- 1:59Speaker 2: wanted to do, you know, with ourseul pushing him in
- 2:02Speaker 2: a wheelchair. Yeah. So it is literally brand new and
- 2:06Speaker 2: it's an Everest. The brand is, you know, good brand.
- 2:10Speaker 2: We own a disability support company here in Duract and
- 2:15Speaker 2: our participants are quite well known to everybody and it's
- 2:18Speaker 2: just such a sad thing that this has happened. I
- 2:20Speaker 2: can see where they are sitting on the seat or
- 2:23Speaker 2: the empty bottles where they were, and they've taken a
- 2:27Speaker 2: couple of bikes as well. So he's had a gang
- 2:29Speaker 2: with him and he's headed off to wherever he is
- 2:33Speaker 2: right now. So if anybody sees an Everest scooter ling around,
- 2:40Speaker 2: I actually I don't think we're going to find it abandoned.
- 2:42Speaker 2: It's a little bit more strategic than that, I think.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I don't think it's just kids trying to get home.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Yeah, right, Kate, talk me through what it sort of
- 2:49Speaker 3: looks like.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Just describe it for us, because is it, you know,
- 2:52Speaker 1: like you said, what's at you know, you say, a
- 2:54Speaker 1: my ability scooter For somebody like me who's got no idea,
- 2:58Speaker 1: what exactly is that?
- 2:59Speaker 3: What's it look like?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Okay, so I've put a picture up on the drac
- 3:03Speaker 2: Facebook page.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It is.
- 3:06Speaker 2: You can google Everest Mobility scooter and see a picture.
- 3:09Speaker 2: It's silver, it's got four wheels. It's a big, huge, solid,
- 3:12Speaker 2: top of the line one and with a basket on
- 3:16Speaker 2: the front and mirrors, and it's all from top Gun Mobility.
- 3:22Speaker 2: The badge on it so's Top Gun Mobility, and it's
- 3:27Speaker 2: brand's name is Everest. It's silver and so shiny, so
- 3:32Speaker 2: new brand new. I just put the plastic off it.
- 3:34Speaker 1: And Kate, I'm just looking at them now. You know
- 3:37Speaker 1: they're not cheap, that's for sure.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Mate, six grand ah, six grand I can't just go
- 3:46Speaker 2: on by him another one.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Oh, Kate, I'm so sorry, Mate. I feel like I'm
- 3:52Speaker 1: bloody crying. I know how important dads are. I lost
- 3:57Speaker 1: my dad and I know how bloody important are And
- 4:01Speaker 1: you must be an incredible woman looking after your dad
- 4:04Speaker 1: in that way and buying him a great gift, and
- 4:07Speaker 1: clearly you wanted him to be able to have his
- 4:09Speaker 1: independence over Christmas. It does not get any lower than
- 4:14Speaker 1: stealing a mobility scooter. And I really hope that you know,
- 4:19Speaker 1: we can, we can end the week with a good
- 4:21Speaker 1: news story this week by getting it back for you.
- 4:25Speaker 2: So do I because when the vernacular and the automatic
- 4:27Speaker 2: response I made it's just kids, just you know, it'll
- 4:30Speaker 2: be kids. They're just trying to get high, and you'll
- 4:32Speaker 2: find it in an alley fromwhere it's like, no, we're
- 4:35Speaker 2: so desantitized, so desansitized to it. And this wasn't just
- 4:41Speaker 2: kids at all, and you know, got a little bit
- 4:45Speaker 2: more behind it than just kids mucking around.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it's spot on and it's atrocious. Honestly, whoever's taken
- 4:52Speaker 1: the bloody scooter bring it back, like, get it back.
- 4:56Speaker 1: It is not fair you've taken you know, a man
- 4:59Speaker 1: scooter who actually he needs it. It's not funny, it's
- 5:02Speaker 1: not a good joke. It's it is time for it
- 5:04Speaker 1: to come back. It's Christmas time and you've worked really
- 5:07Speaker 1: hard to be able to get that for your dad,
- 5:09Speaker 1: you and your partner. I just think it's horrid that
- 5:12Speaker 1: somebody would do that.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks Cattie, thanks for your tom no worries.
- 5:17Speaker 3: Let us see what we can do to try and
- 5:19Speaker 3: help you, Kate.
- 5:20Speaker 2: We will.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll keep in contact with you. You too. I
- 5:24Speaker 3: really hope we can get this thing back. Thanks Kate,
- 5:26Speaker 3: We'll talk to you sooner. Thank you.
