- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous Podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Hey guys, welcome to the Almost Famous Podcast. Today we
- 0:09Speaker 2: have a throwback on while Pablo is here with his daughter,
- 0:13Speaker 2: who was actually the new star of the family. If
- 0:16Speaker 2: you guys don't remember her, I mean, if you watch
- 0:19Speaker 2: one Pablo season, you remember Camila because you are a
- 0:22Speaker 2: huge part of it. It's been ten years since you
- 0:25Speaker 2: got you guys both were on the show, and now
- 0:28Speaker 2: you're back on ABC, but this time it's American Idol
- 0:33Speaker 2: and this is so exciting. Your audition aired on Sunday
- 0:37Speaker 2: and now you're going to Hollywood and we're we're very
- 0:41Speaker 2: happy for you. Congratulations on that. That's like, was that
- 0:44Speaker 2: your goal just to like make it through round one?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Yeah? So I get like the the okay from like
- 0:53Speaker 3: the judges was like Michael, basically.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, you're fourteen, so it's your first year. You're fifteen, now, okay,
- 1:01Speaker 2: so was this your first year of eligibility for American Idol? Right, Yeah,
- 1:05Speaker 2: I'm an American Idol, A huge fan. I don't watch
- 1:09Speaker 2: the show anymore. I'm gonna have to tune in for you,
- 1:12Speaker 2: but I used to in like the two thousands, on
- 1:15Speaker 2: my license plate it said heart Idol, Like the actual
- 1:18Speaker 2: license plate was a heart with idol. So this is
- 1:22Speaker 2: a big this is a big deal. Yes, yes, yes,
- 1:24Speaker 2: Or did you grow up watching the show?
- 1:27Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:27Speaker 3: I would watch sometimes like on TikTok or like on YouTube,
- 1:30Speaker 3: but not like I would watch it like on a TV.
- 1:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Okay, So why American Idol and not The Boys or
- 1:38Speaker 2: another competition show.
- 1:40Speaker 3: I don't know because my dad just told me, oh,
- 1:41Speaker 3: American Idol.
- 1:42Speaker 5: So I was like, okay, well, uh, to be honest
- 1:45Speaker 5: with you, like the story is basically one of the
- 1:49Speaker 5: producers from the show, you know.
- 1:52Speaker 6: Rob the Bachelor, or.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Of Rob Mills, so ABC King, Yeah, ABC.
- 1:58Speaker 5: So so we had a conversation. We chatted once in
- 2:01Speaker 5: a while to see how's everything doing or whatever, and
- 2:04Speaker 5: he asked me so as Camilla. I said, well, she's bay.
- 2:08Speaker 5: Is she into sports or whatever? She likes to sing
- 2:10Speaker 5: all day or what? Oh my gosh, really, So I
- 2:13Speaker 5: send her a song that she recorded, like a little demo,
- 2:17Speaker 5: and he was like, we got to get her an
- 2:19Speaker 5: American Idol. So I said, well, she's too young still,
- 2:22Speaker 5: she's thirteen, so let me see and he checked obviously
- 2:26Speaker 5: the age living.
- 2:28Speaker 6: And stuff like that.
- 2:29Speaker 5: So when it was time for her to do it,
- 2:32Speaker 5: we'll just say, okay, Camilla, would you like to do it?
- 2:34Speaker 5: And she said, yeah, I would like to do it.
- 2:36Speaker 5: So basically that's how it came out through the show
- 2:40Speaker 5: and do it, and then we did the casting and
- 2:43Speaker 5: it was a zoom casting kind of thing. And then
- 2:45Speaker 5: that's when she you know, performed stuff like that and
- 2:48Speaker 5: she want they want her to do the singing it
- 2:52Speaker 5: from the shows.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah, so you didn't have to wait in line for
- 2:55Speaker 2: twenty four hours and camp out at an arena.
- 2:59Speaker 6: Well does at least we got some perks still, you.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Know, seriously, very nice. Seriously the one pole I want
- 3:08Speaker 4: to I want to dive into you a little bit.
- 3:10Speaker 4: So obviously it has been ten years since you've been
- 3:12Speaker 4: on the Bachelor. We did get to know you both
- 3:15Speaker 4: through that experience. I think last time we talked to you,
- 3:18Speaker 4: you were doing social media management. Am I Right?
- 3:21Speaker 5: Well, that's what it's funny because that's what Keble said
- 3:25Speaker 5: the show.
- 3:26Speaker 6: She is nervous. So basically what I do I manage
- 3:28Speaker 6: singers and songwriters.
- 3:30Speaker 5: And since a couple of years ago, a little bit
- 3:33Speaker 5: before pandemic, I started doing.
- 3:35Speaker 6: Soccer as well.
- 3:36Speaker 5: So I'm an agent for soccer players and I do
- 3:38Speaker 5: music and entertainment, you know, management, So that's where I
- 3:43Speaker 5: am right now.
- 3:44Speaker 4: So you obviously have a taste for talent, so you
- 3:47Speaker 4: knew that she was really a really good singer. Obviously
- 3:50Speaker 4: biases probably played into a little bit. I want to
- 3:53Speaker 4: know when you both walked into the first audition outside
- 3:59Speaker 4: of the zoom, So the first live audition as a dad,
- 4:03Speaker 4: what was your thought, like, what was going through your
- 4:05Speaker 4: head or the emotions?
- 4:07Speaker 5: Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you first. I'm gonna
- 4:09Speaker 5: let her explain to you how it happened, because it's
- 4:12Speaker 5: you know, you see it on the show and basically
- 4:14Speaker 5: that was it.
- 4:14Speaker 6: But I was waiting with her mom outside.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, so I entered the audition room and they like
- 4:20Speaker 3: asked me like, oh, like your name whatever, And then
- 4:22Speaker 3: they asked me if anyone in my family was like
- 4:24Speaker 3: in the industry or whatever, like yeah, my dad, And
- 4:26Speaker 3: then they asked I was like, oh, my dad he
- 4:28Speaker 3: was in the Bachelor, and they.
- 4:29Speaker 6: Go, oh, like that's what you see on TV.
- 4:32Speaker 3: And he was outside with my mom. And then when
- 4:35Speaker 3: I like, he was like, oh, bring him in. So
- 4:37Speaker 3: I was like, okay, so I go and I get
- 4:40Speaker 3: him and that's when he like goes.
- 4:41Speaker 6: That's when I came in.
- 4:43Speaker 5: So basically, obviously I got to talk a little bit
- 4:46Speaker 5: with them. You know, I knew Luke Bryant from a
- 4:49Speaker 5: NASCAR Daytona five hundred twenty fifteen he performed and we
- 4:52Speaker 5: met and stuff like that, and uh, and through my
- 4:56Speaker 5: head was like, okay, well we're here. She you know,
- 5:01Speaker 5: it's time for her to show her stuff. And obviously
- 5:03Speaker 5: I didn't know that I was gonna stay or listen
- 5:06Speaker 5: to Uh. I would just say, oh, they call me.
- 5:08Speaker 5: She she she ran and his dad they want to
- 5:11Speaker 5: meet you. So I say, okay, fine, So I went there,
- 5:13Speaker 5: spoke a little bit with them and there and that's
- 5:16Speaker 5: why she says, well, would you like your father to
- 5:18Speaker 5: be there or whatever?
- 5:19Speaker 6: She said yes, so I'll sit down.
- 5:21Speaker 5: What was going through my mind is like, well, I
- 5:24Speaker 5: knew she was very nervous because I was outside with
- 5:26Speaker 5: her and she's so young at the time, she was
- 5:29Speaker 5: still fourteen when when she did the audition. That, Uh,
- 5:33Speaker 5: through my head was like, I hope she feels okay.
- 5:34Speaker 5: She felt comfortable just by by you know that she
- 5:39Speaker 5: doesn't feel as nervous as she was before. But when
- 5:42Speaker 5: I saw her on the stage, like I mean in
- 5:44Speaker 5: front of me, I saw her a little more calm
- 5:48Speaker 5: than when she was outside. She even a little cried
- 5:50Speaker 5: before going into the audition because she was so nervous.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Sometimes the nerves go away as soon as you walk
- 5:57Speaker 2: into the room and see the panel or whatever. I
- 6:01Speaker 2: just think about Bachelor auditions. How would you compare your
- 6:05Speaker 2: Bachelor audition to her American Idol audition?
- 6:09Speaker 6: Oh wow.
- 6:12Speaker 5: So one of the things that I told her also
- 6:15Speaker 5: that you know, I think it might help her a lot.
- 6:18Speaker 6: It was when I played soccer.
- 6:20Speaker 5: You know, if I didn't feel this nervousness or something
- 6:25Speaker 5: in my stomach when I was going into the field,
- 6:27Speaker 5: then maybe I wasn't. I was done with soccer, you know,
- 6:31Speaker 5: So she will always have that. When I was on
- 6:35Speaker 5: the show, obviously you get that lemo and you're like, oh, shoot,
- 6:41Speaker 5: I'm here, let me see what I'm gonna do. But
- 6:43Speaker 5: but for her, I think part of it was just
- 6:47Speaker 5: being there and letting things go right.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it was it was more of like me, like
- 6:53Speaker 3: letting it flow so it wouldn't be like super like,
- 6:58Speaker 3: so it wouldn't be like a four audition, Like I
- 7:00Speaker 3: didn't want it to look like I was like forcing
- 7:02Speaker 3: myself to, like, you know, do my best. I was
- 7:05Speaker 3: just like whatever, like either way, I'm super young, Like
- 7:07Speaker 3: it doesn't matter.
- 7:09Speaker 4: So yeah, now Comia the does any of the time
- 7:15Speaker 4: on the Bachelor, Like do you remember? I mean, do
- 7:18Speaker 4: you remember that well at all?
- 7:20Speaker 3: It's just the little The only thing I remember was
- 7:22Speaker 3: like ice skating in like this weird like ring that,
- 7:25Speaker 3: like ring ring here in La.
- 7:27Speaker 4: So I was curious to see if any of that,
- 7:29Speaker 4: like any of the attention from that the cameras, the
- 7:32Speaker 4: interviews or whatever you like, prepped you for these types
- 7:36Speaker 4: of moments.
- 7:36Speaker 3: No. I felt like when I was doing my my
- 7:39Speaker 3: like interviews, I was like more common about it because
- 7:42Speaker 3: I was like I've done this before, like when I
- 7:44Speaker 3: was super young, and like also like with like the
- 7:49Speaker 3: cameras and all of that, it was like fine because
- 7:53Speaker 3: I like also seen that before and like I kind
- 7:56Speaker 3: of like being on camera, like I don't know, I
- 7:58Speaker 3: like it.
- 7:58Speaker 6: It's like fun, Yeah, we get it.
- 8:12Speaker 2: So the judges are obviously all star panel. Was there
- 8:16Speaker 2: one that you were most wanting to get a yes
- 8:19Speaker 2: from anybody that you were most excited to meet.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Katie probably yeah, she gave you a yes.
- 8:25Speaker 2: And so did Luke Brian now Lionel, who I've met
- 8:29Speaker 2: and he was one of the sweetest celebrities I've ever met,
- 8:32Speaker 2: so warm. He said no, but he was also like,
- 8:36Speaker 2: you're so young that, like you know, you can always
- 8:38Speaker 2: come back. So is there a judge that is like
- 8:43Speaker 2: on your side on the way through Hollywood?
- 8:45Speaker 3: I feel like I feel like Luke is on my side,
- 8:49Speaker 3: like he he in the in my audition. He said
- 8:53Speaker 3: that that like if a producer grows me and it
- 8:57Speaker 3: makes a song like it's a hy and like I
- 9:00Speaker 3: feel like he encourages me a lot because I'm still
- 9:04Speaker 3: super young, and like he's like, no, like you got this,
- 9:06Speaker 3: like you're gonna be fine, Like and if they and
- 9:08Speaker 3: if you don't go through, then it's fine, Like you're
- 9:10Speaker 3: still super young. You could do this because I think
- 9:13Speaker 3: the maximum me just like thirty, so I could do
- 9:15Speaker 3: this fifteen more times. Yeah, literally no more times, but
- 9:20Speaker 3: I don't think it's like I could still do it
- 9:25Speaker 3: fifteen more times. So it doesn't matter if it's a
- 9:28Speaker 3: nowherey yes, because either way like it's in front of
- 9:31Speaker 3: Luke Bryan, Lionel Ritchie and Katie Berry and the other contestants.
- 9:37Speaker 3: They're way older than me, and they have like way
- 9:39Speaker 3: more experience, and it's like I just feel like what
- 9:43Speaker 3: I mostly wanted to get from like all of like
- 9:47Speaker 3: the American Idol is like the experience and the friendships
- 9:51Speaker 3: that come within and just like having it's like a family.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Like to me, they're like a family. Like I still
- 9:58Speaker 3: talk to a lot of the people there.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Just like bastination. Okay, well, I'm so glad you got
- 10:05Speaker 2: that experience. And I don't want to spoil do we do?
- 10:08Speaker 2: We don't want to ask for spoilers or anything. No,
- 10:10Speaker 2: So we'll leave the conversation at that.
- 10:13Speaker 4: As as if somebody that likes I mean, obviously I
- 10:16Speaker 4: used to love American Idol, I haven't seen I'm gonna
- 10:18Speaker 4: watch it because of you this season. What Okay, you're
- 10:22Speaker 4: saying this era is pre taped, but does it go
- 10:25Speaker 4: live at some point? Yeah, and we don't know, just
- 10:29Speaker 4: we don't know if you make it to the live
- 10:32Speaker 4: or not, Like that's something the viewership right now doesn't know. Correct, Okay, Okay,
- 10:37Speaker 4: so that's weeks I mean, obviously it plays every week
- 10:41Speaker 4: right now, so we'll get to follow your journey along
- 10:43Speaker 4: the way. Yeah, okay, I am like, this is so
- 10:48Speaker 4: cool to see a father and a daughter sit here
- 10:50Speaker 4: in two here's a note that you're saying, Wan Pablo
- 10:54Speaker 4: that she felt more comfortable with you in the room.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Such a big deal. Like I feel like if I
- 10:58Speaker 4: was a singer, which I'm not, I would be more
- 11:01Speaker 4: nervous if my parents sat.
- 11:02Speaker 3: In the room.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Name That's what I was thinking, Like I would be
- 11:06Speaker 4: more anxious about that, Like I would rather than not
- 11:08Speaker 4: see it, just in case I embarrass myself. So I
- 11:11Speaker 4: want to know what you guys have done in your
- 11:12Speaker 4: relationship as a father and daughter to like make it
- 11:15Speaker 4: a comfortable space where you're like, I think she'll be
- 11:17Speaker 4: better if I'm sitting here.
- 11:19Speaker 3: I mean every day, it doesn't matter where I am,
- 11:23Speaker 3: Like I could be in school and I will be singing.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Like sometimes in school I'm seeing like my friends the
- 11:28Speaker 3: can you like just shut up? Like we're tired, Like
- 11:30Speaker 3: it's seven in the morning, how do you have this
- 11:32Speaker 3: much energy? And I'm like, because it's a new day,
- 11:35Speaker 3: and like with my parents, like all I do is
- 11:38Speaker 3: sing in the car. Yeah, Like one time we had
- 11:42Speaker 3: we had we did. We took a road trip to
- 11:44Speaker 3: Orlando because we live in Miami, so it take a
- 11:47Speaker 3: four hour drive and the whole four hours I did
- 11:49Speaker 3: not sleep nothing can we just saying the whole time?
- 11:53Speaker 2: Well, and papla, do you like listening to her for
- 11:55Speaker 2: four straight hours?
- 11:56Speaker 6: I like to play my music too, but just it
- 12:00Speaker 6: is what it is, you.
- 12:01Speaker 5: Know, Yeah, once in a while, just a couple of songs.
- 12:05Speaker 5: But once It's funny because she jumps in the car
- 12:08Speaker 5: every time I pick her up, and like, she's not
- 12:10Speaker 5: even jumping in the car. He's asking offer the cable
- 12:14Speaker 5: depends on the car or she's had the bluetooth already,
- 12:17Speaker 5: so she's just playing whatever she wants yea. And she
- 12:19Speaker 5: said also she gives me good songs too that I heard,
- 12:23Speaker 5: so oh that listen to this song by whatever, and
- 12:26Speaker 5: I'm like, oh.
- 12:26Speaker 6: That's a that's a nice song right there.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:29Speaker 3: And one thing I hate is that every time that
- 12:31Speaker 3: we're listening to music and we're having a good he
- 12:34Speaker 3: has to get on a phone call.
- 12:35Speaker 6: So he saw everything that happened.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Sound.
- 12:39Speaker 2: I hate phone calls in the car.
- 12:41Speaker 5: To me, it's like my office once in a while
- 12:44Speaker 5: when Miami it just becomes so much trap. Well you
- 12:47Speaker 5: really too, So when I jump in the car, you know,
- 12:50Speaker 5: I because I work with people.
- 12:52Speaker 6: That's that's the problem. As I work with people. It's
- 12:54Speaker 6: not like I call.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Whenever or you know, sometimes I gotta make a phone
- 12:59Speaker 5: call to the song player that needs something or something
- 13:01Speaker 5: like that.
- 13:01Speaker 6: So she's like, are you gonna pick up?
- 13:03Speaker 5: And I say, I have to pick up the phone.
- 13:05Speaker 6: I'm working right now.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Well, one day, one day that might change. When you
- 13:09Speaker 4: have a new client that you're representing that sounds like
- 13:14Speaker 4: it's it's not too far in the future.
- 13:17Speaker 6: You might I'm gonna get her a manager, man getting
- 13:22Speaker 6: her a manager.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Yeah, it's so cool to see. We wish you the
- 13:27Speaker 4: best success. I am. I'm almost like anxiously nervously excited.
- 13:31Speaker 4: But then again, you have fifteen more times if, like
- 13:34Speaker 4: you don't win this season, you have fifteen more times.
- 13:37Speaker 4: That's ridiculous.
- 13:38Speaker 2: It's so well, you have fifty more times until you
- 13:40Speaker 2: get to the live round, right, because then when you
- 13:43Speaker 2: hit it live, then they don't let you come back anymore.
- 13:45Speaker 6: Right, that's a good question. I have no idea.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I think there's some caveat there, so you just have
- 13:53Speaker 2: Maybe that's what I'm saying. Yeah, I don't know if
- 13:55Speaker 2: they change the rules since I have last watched, but
- 13:57Speaker 2: I wanted to ask you guys, like, since Camilla are you?
- 14:01Speaker 2: Are you freshman or a sophomore in high school?
- 14:03Speaker 3: I'm a freshman in high school.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Okay, So how is it with your peers that your
- 14:07Speaker 2: dad was once the Bachelor? Does it come up often?
- 14:11Speaker 3: Yeah? Like my friends they like sometimes ask me and
- 14:15Speaker 3: I'm like, I don't know. Like I was like ten,
- 14:18Speaker 3: I was like five before I was four. How am
- 14:20Speaker 3: I supposed to remember? They're like, oh, but you don't
- 14:22Speaker 3: remember like when you were I was like no, Like
- 14:24Speaker 3: I don't know. And like there's this joke that like
- 14:29Speaker 3: goes on with my friends, with the guys most because
- 14:31Speaker 3: my dad also plays soccer that they just start screaming
- 14:34Speaker 3: in the middle of nowhere his name. They're like, bab
- 14:38Speaker 3: and like we could take the whole class is quine
- 14:40Speaker 3: And just someone says't and I'm like, oh my god, no,
- 14:45Speaker 3: it's so weird. It's weird, and I don't know.
- 14:47Speaker 4: It's nice to have a cool dad. You'll appreciate it.
- 14:49Speaker 4: One day. You probably appreciate it now. Yeah, the awesome
- 14:54Speaker 4: family dynamic. It's so good to catch up with both
- 14:56Speaker 4: of you again after yeah, so many years. I I
- 15:01Speaker 4: so here here's my story as we close out. I
- 15:03Speaker 4: was watching the television. The commercial came for the American
- 15:05Speaker 4: Idol because it was airing and it was there was
- 15:09Speaker 4: I figet how they entered into it, but it was
- 15:10Speaker 4: something like and and the reoccurrence of a Bachelor, and
- 15:16Speaker 4: they was playing when the Bachelor, and I was watching,
- 15:17Speaker 4: I was like, wait what because I didn't know what
- 15:20Speaker 4: was going on and know what they were talking about
- 15:21Speaker 4: and who's coming back again to be on the Bachelor
- 15:24Speaker 4: or to be a part of the Bachelor. But no,
- 15:26Speaker 4: it was about the two of you, and I was
- 15:27Speaker 4: happy to see that. So wish you the best. We'll
- 15:30Speaker 4: catch up with you, we'll continue along on the journey.
- 15:32Speaker 4: And one day, here's my guest, Ashley, I wonder if
- 15:35Speaker 4: you agree, one day, when we are looking back on
- 15:39Speaker 4: our time on the Almost Famous podcast, I think we
- 15:41Speaker 4: might have the most the potentially most famous person we've
- 15:44Speaker 4: ever interviewed sitting with us today.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Oh that I can't I can't wait to see what
- 15:49Speaker 2: your voice will sound like when you're about twenty. If
- 15:51Speaker 2: that's what it sounds like at fourteen, that's.
- 15:53Speaker 6: Great, good good, good good.
- 15:56Speaker 4: We'll see, we'll see.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Good luck to you.
- 15:59Speaker 5: I hopes me too, to be honest with you, So
- 16:02Speaker 5: we'll see how it goes. She's gotta, you know, work,
- 16:05Speaker 5: I don't. It's not easy. People doesn't get there quick.
- 16:10Speaker 5: She wants to be.
