- 0:15Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Welcome to you Girls Gone Hallmark. I'm Megan,
- 0:18Speaker 1: I am Wendy, and it is a marathon of episodes
- 0:21Speaker 1: this week and today we are discussing hashtag x miss.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I want to just say that you think this is
- 0:27Speaker 1: the worst name for a movie. Yes, I thought so
- 0:30Speaker 1: in our account on a Christmas preview episode. I still
- 0:32Speaker 1: think so. Yes, it makes me mad to say it.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I know, Wally, we're going.
- 0:37Speaker 3: I appreciate it, but I even think hashtag Christmas is
- 0:41Speaker 3: better than hashtag x miss. They should have called it
- 0:44Speaker 3: hashtag Christmas.
- 0:46Speaker 1: The original name of this movie was called hashtag Christmas.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Like the word hashtag, not the pound sign. The pound sign.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Am I showing my age? Yeah?
- 0:56Speaker 3: If you want to connect with us outside of the podcast,
- 0:58Speaker 3: you can find us on Instagram and on TikTok. We
- 1:00Speaker 3: are at Megan and Wendy.
- 1:03Speaker 1: We'd love for you to join our Facebook group called
- 1:06Speaker 1: Girls Gone Hallmark. You can search it in Facebook or
- 1:09Speaker 1: I will leave a link in our show notes. We
- 1:11Speaker 1: have a fun, knowledgeable group over there. Yeah. I try
- 1:16Speaker 1: to pop in on the weekends. I don't throw up
- 1:19Speaker 1: a lot of content in Facebook or Instagram about Hallmark
- 1:25Speaker 1: movies because I'm like watching them, and I don't want
- 1:27Speaker 1: to spoil anything for anybody else or for myself. But
- 1:32Speaker 1: this week and I was popping into the Facebook group
- 1:34Speaker 1: and I was like, I just finished hall Up the Holly,
- 1:36Speaker 1: did you guys watch it? Or I just finished this
- 1:39Speaker 1: did you guys watch it? So I'm curious about everybody
- 1:41Speaker 1: else's feedback about it. Not that it sways my opinion,
- 1:45Speaker 1: but it's fun to read.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Let's do some Hallmark news and notes. Okay, quick follow
- 1:50Speaker 3: up to last week's episode. Three Wise Men and a
- 1:53Speaker 3: Baby is the officially the most watched cable movie of
- 1:57Speaker 3: twenty twenty two of.
- 1:58Speaker 1: All cable that doesn't include like.
- 2:03Speaker 3: HBO Cable though, right, HBO Cable is not a made
- 2:06Speaker 3: for TV movie, Right, I don't.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Think that counts. Okay, Like that's a theatrical movie.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Okay, fine, fine, fine, fine, Well that's exciting for them.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, I have a Hallmark Google Alert,
- 2:18Speaker 3: so I get a lot of Hallmark articles in email,
- 2:21Speaker 3: and this one from cnet dot Com came across my radar.
- 2:25Speaker 3: And there's a lot of articles like this this time
- 2:26Speaker 3: of year, but it is best new Hallmark Christmas movies
- 2:29Speaker 3: to snuggle up to this season. This is one of
- 2:31Speaker 3: those like link grab.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:33Speaker 3: But you know, I've seen a lot of people on
- 2:36Speaker 3: Instagram on Twitter like what Hallmark movie should I watch?
- 2:38Speaker 3: So I wanted to quickly let you know what they
- 2:40Speaker 3: have said. Movies of the season, okay, and just just
- 2:44Speaker 3: thumbs up or thumbs down. Okay, first up, Noel next
- 2:47Speaker 3: Door thumbs up. Yeah, The Royal Nanny, Yeah, I give it,
- 2:50Speaker 3: like a side by thumbs Christmas at the Golden Dragon
- 2:53Speaker 3: thumbs up, Ghosts of Christmas always thumbs up, Three Wise
- 2:57Speaker 3: Men Out a Baby thumbs.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Up, Long Lost Christmas.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I don't know what that movie is.
- 3:01Speaker 2: It's the Taylor Cole Benjamin Arrs movie that I have.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yet to I haven't watched that either, but I heard
- 3:06Speaker 1: it was a cry fest.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Oh yes, I have some catching up to do. I
- 3:11Speaker 2: think they actually did a pretty good job with this list.
- 3:13Speaker 1: M hm.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I was surprised. I was like, seen it? What a
- 3:16Speaker 2: scene it?
- 3:16Speaker 1: No, I'm Hallmark Movies. Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised. You
- 3:19Speaker 1: know what was funny is this is such a side topic,
- 3:22Speaker 1: but I was at physical therapy this morning and I
- 3:24Speaker 1: overheard somebody's conversation and it was like, you know, how
- 3:27Speaker 1: is your Thanksgiving? What did you do? Did you watch
- 3:30Speaker 1: any Hallmark movies? And I was like ears perked up,
- 3:33Speaker 1: like I was like.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Here's a great opportunity to talk about my podcast. It
- 3:38Speaker 4: was not I would never anyway. The lady's like, yeah,
- 3:42Speaker 4: I watched Love actually, and I was like, girl, that
- 3:46Speaker 4: is not a Hallmark movie.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Like it's funny that people just like lump them.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Yeah, Christmas movies, yes, And.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I just was like, never mind, go back to rubbing
- 3:58Speaker 1: my feet please.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I have one final note, and that is that Bros.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Not a Hallmark movie, but stars a Hallmark star, Luke
- 4:05Speaker 3: McFarlane will be coming to Peacock on December second, which
- 4:08Speaker 3: is this Friday. I'm totally watching it me too, definitely
- 4:12Speaker 3: see it. I did see some advertising suggesting that it
- 4:17Speaker 3: was the holiday movie like they had It's not, but
- 4:22Speaker 3: they were kind of trying to like.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Market it that way. Anyway. I thought that was interesting.
- 4:28Speaker 3: But I will absolutely be watching that once it hits Peacock.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Following up to following up to following up. This has
- 4:34Speaker 1: been an ongoing conversation with Candace Cameron Murray YEP. According
- 4:39Speaker 1: to US Weekly Today, Candace Cameron Beret has unfollowed Jody
- 4:47Speaker 1: Sweeten on Instagram. I love this is somebody like looking
- 4:51Speaker 1: at their accounts and seeing if they follow each other's sale.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Are you gonna confirm right now?
- 4:54Speaker 3: No, I'm going to say Jody Sweeten has unfollowed Candace
- 4:57Speaker 3: Cameron Barrett.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Well, it's to me would see that Jodie would unfollow
- 5:01Speaker 1: the first Yes. However, sweet him reposted Holly Robinson's Pete's
- 5:08Speaker 1: post about inclusivity and do we think that this was
- 5:12Speaker 1: the catalyst that CCP was like, she's not on my side, goodbye.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Oh maybe Jody sweet still follows Candice Cameron Bray.
- 5:19Speaker 1: How about the other way around? Let's see it. Let's
- 5:21Speaker 1: you now that it's made us Weekly News. Maybe she
- 5:23Speaker 1: followed her.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Back, she does not follow.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Eh, look at that, I question her. This is this
- 5:30Speaker 1: is my thought. I think maybe people think, oh, there's
- 5:33Speaker 1: some loyalty between these two because they were child actors
- 5:38Speaker 1: together and grew up in the business and but each
- 5:41Speaker 1: have different like polarizing political views and stuff like that. Right,
- 5:47Speaker 1: Britty Sweeten's very outspoken exactly, So like I think people
- 5:52Speaker 1: are like, oh my god, the Tanner sisters aren't getting
- 5:55Speaker 1: along or whatever, but really like these, I mean, people
- 6:00Speaker 1: grow up into different grow part right.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Yes, but if it was recent, I'd be curious to
- 6:06Speaker 3: know how recently she unfollowed her. We know that she
- 6:08Speaker 3: does not currently follow her as of the recording of
- 6:10Speaker 3: this podcast. You know, if you look at Jody Sweeton's
- 6:13Speaker 3: Instagram stories, which I hadn't looked closely at until you
- 6:16Speaker 3: know recently.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Oh wow, she got roughed up by the lapd over
- 6:21Speaker 1: the summer. I knew that for protesting.
- 6:23Speaker 2: She posts quite a.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Bit of like socially conscious content. And I wonder if
- 6:31Speaker 3: in the wake of the backlash that CCB was getting, which,
- 6:34Speaker 3: by the way, she's like, the media blew it out
- 6:36Speaker 3: of proportion.
- 6:36Speaker 2: You said what you said?
- 6:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I wonder if she felt like it was salt in.
- 6:40Speaker 1: The wound maybe anyway, Okay, good ridance.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Do you have a synopsis of this before we move on?
- 6:45Speaker 1: I do. Hashtag x miss Premiere Friday, November twenty fifth.
- 6:50Speaker 1: When Jen gets the chance to enter a brand's design contest,
- 6:55Speaker 1: she poses as a family influencer, enlisting the help of
- 6:59Speaker 1: her best friend Max and her baby nephew. When her
- 7:02Speaker 1: video is selected as a finalist, Jen is torn on
- 7:06Speaker 1: whether to go on with her perfect family or reveal
- 7:10Speaker 1: The Truth. Stars Claire bow And and Brandt Daughtry Doughty. God,
- 7:16Speaker 1: every time I always see Daughtry too, but I believe
- 7:20Speaker 1: it's Doerty.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Okay, Well.
- 7:23Speaker 3: This movie was directed by Heather Hawthorne Doyle, a prolific
- 7:25Speaker 3: Hallmark director.
- 7:26Speaker 2: She has thirty three directing credits.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Including the Godwink movies and a Little Daytime Drama starring
- 7:31Speaker 3: one of Wendy's faves, Ryan Paty.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Oh. I know you're being sarcastic because it also stars
- 7:36Speaker 1: Jen Lily. Poor Gen Lily.
- 7:39Speaker 3: This movie was It has two writing credits. I don't
- 7:43Speaker 3: know if it was co written, if one did some rewrites,
- 7:46Speaker 3: I don't really know. The first is Emily Bear, who
- 7:49Speaker 3: has three total credits, including one in nineteen ninety eight
- 7:51Speaker 3: and one in twenty ten.
- 7:53Speaker 2: She's a hobbywriter.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Apparently, or she just can't get stuff picked up.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I would love to know the inside story on this.
- 8:00Speaker 3: But it's also written by Jua Botkin, which is the
- 8:03Speaker 3: name we've come to know very well this year.
- 8:05Speaker 2: She is churning them out.
- 8:07Speaker 3: She wrote Our Italian Christmas Memory. She wrote mid Love Crisis.
- 8:10Speaker 3: She wrote Maple Valley Christmas. She wrote Project Christmas Wish,
- 8:13Speaker 3: which is an older movie that my husband and I
- 8:15Speaker 3: just watched.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Real cute.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Recommend it Cranberry Christmas. I got a comment about Juwah Botkins.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I still can't say her name right, but it's kind
- 8:23Speaker 1: my comment.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Don't worry.
- 8:24Speaker 1: I want to hear it.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I think what I like about her.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I haven't loved all these movies. I've liked a lot
- 8:29Speaker 1: of them.
- 8:31Speaker 2: I think she likes and is.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Good at writing complicated family relationship.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That's a through line here.
- 8:39Speaker 3: She's trying to like bust out of the mold a
- 8:41Speaker 3: little bit.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Nice viewpoint.
- 8:43Speaker 2: You found out something about Brent Darty this morning.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah, he was on Pretty Little Liars, and I watch
- 8:48Speaker 1: that series. I don't remember him at all. It was
- 8:52Speaker 1: a long time ago. I also learned that he was
- 8:54Speaker 1: on Dancing with the Stars in twenty thirteen. Dancing with
- 8:57Speaker 1: the Stars, yeah, must have been after Pretty Little Liar,
- 9:01Speaker 1: so anything it had to have been. He was eliminated
- 9:03Speaker 1: in a week nine, which is a pretty good run,
- 9:06Speaker 1: not as not as long as Trevor Donovan. That guy
- 9:09Speaker 1: made it to them, did he make it to the finals. No,
- 9:11Speaker 1: he got eliminated right before the finale. And I'm just
- 9:17Speaker 1: laughing because I did not enjoy him.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Speaking of gen Lily, he also starred in Mingle All
- 9:24Speaker 3: the Way.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Oh, I hate it so much.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I hated that movie. I just am not a generally fan,
- 9:31Speaker 1: I guess. And I know, like she's like a sweetheart type,
- 9:35Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like I feel like there
- 9:37Speaker 1: are many viewers who just think gen Lily is the shit,
- 9:40Speaker 1: but I just can't get behind it.
- 9:43Speaker 2: He was also in Fifty Shades Freed. Did you know that?
- 9:46Speaker 4: Yes?
- 9:46Speaker 1: And he always always I get confused with him and
- 9:50Speaker 1: Matt Boehmer. Yeah, was he in Fifty Shades. Megan pretends
- 9:55Speaker 1: like she hasn't seen those I.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Said the books, I'm not too good for a fifty
- 9:59Speaker 3: s moment, but I have not actually seen the movies.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I both.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I have kind of a serious note. So Claire Bowen,
- 10:14Speaker 1: she plays Gin in this movie. She was Scarlett O'Connor
- 10:20Speaker 1: in the entire series of Nashville, a show you've never seen, right,
- 10:23Speaker 1: You Right, I've tried to watch it. I just can't
- 10:27Speaker 1: get into it, Like I've recently tried to watch it,
- 10:29Speaker 1: Like the summer, I think because it's you know, streaming somewhere.
- 10:32Speaker 1: But she was like this young, like almost like Taylor Swift,
- 10:36Speaker 1: kind of like girl. This is her second Hallmark movie.
- 10:41Speaker 1: She was in twenty twenty one Summer Night's movie called
- 10:44Speaker 1: San Dollar Cove with Chad Michael Murray. We didn't watch that,
- 10:50Speaker 1: but this is doing my research for this. Claire was
- 10:53Speaker 1: diagnosed with a nephro blastoma at four years old. That's
- 11:00Speaker 1: a cancer.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Of the kidneys.
- 11:02Speaker 1: It didn't specifically say. I'm gonna guess though, it's kidneys.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Through, right, and that feels kidney to me.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah. They found a football sized tumor in her belly, yes,
- 11:16Speaker 1: and doctors gave her only a few weeks to live,
- 11:19Speaker 1: crazy right, And she underwent some experimental treatment and surgery
- 11:25Speaker 1: which damaged one of her kidneys, part of her diaphragm,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and it said, quote some of her guts. And this
- 11:33Speaker 1: is according to a twenty seventeen article in a newspaper
- 11:38Speaker 1: called The Tennessee and I'm gonna link it in the
- 11:40Speaker 1: show notes. So that's insane.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Us heavy, right.
- 11:47Speaker 1: And then I had also read that her brother later
- 11:51Speaker 1: on was diagnosed with cancer like as they were older
- 11:55Speaker 1: I know, and and she cut off all her hair
- 11:58Speaker 1: and donated it to a little girl who had lost
- 12:01Speaker 1: her hair from adult Yes, I know, like this woman
- 12:07Speaker 1: has a good heart.
- 12:08Speaker 3: All I have left is if this was filmed in Vancooper,
- 12:12Speaker 3: there's nothing that, there's.
- 12:15Speaker 2: No transition there.
- 12:18Speaker 1: All I have left is Karen Crooper, who plays Liz Taylor,
- 12:21Speaker 1: not the same Liz Taylor, guys the girl's mom in
- 12:24Speaker 1: this movie. She was also in this Weekend's Time for
- 12:27Speaker 1: him to come home for Christmas?
- 12:29Speaker 3: Hmm, which I've seen half oven didn't realize it was her,
- 12:32Speaker 3: didn't make the connection.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I did not either until I read IMDb. Is it
- 12:37Speaker 1: Tyler's mom? No, she plays the girl's mom. The girl's mom,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I don't know that.
- 12:40Speaker 2: I'm wow cool.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Yeah, what's your first impression of this movie? Poor Jim
- 12:46Speaker 1: is afraid of her own shadow, and I just want
- 12:48Speaker 1: to wrap her up and be like it's gonna be okay, Yeah,
- 12:51Speaker 1: you're gonna put yourself in an early grave. Baby. Oh.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I am also a cancer survivor, so I'm not making
- 12:58Speaker 1: jokes about her having cancer around making jokes about her character,
- 13:03Speaker 1: being like, you don't want me to.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Get that out? Okay?
- 13:08Speaker 4: Oh, gosh, send your emails to Meghan.
- 13:13Speaker 2: What if they don't know which of us?
- 13:15Speaker 1: Just witch? Can you believe what Megan said?
- 13:19Speaker 3: Okay, I went with the baseball metaphor in our review
- 13:22Speaker 3: of Haul Out the Holly, and I'm gonna stick with
- 13:25Speaker 3: that because I believe Hallmark had a swinging a misste
- 13:29Speaker 3: seems so close with the not always perfect.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Rsion of social media. But such a miss But I'm gonna.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Hold off on telling you exactly where I think this
- 13:40Speaker 3: movie went wrong.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Oh, I can't wait, I can't wait. There were some
- 13:43Speaker 1: things I liked about this movie me too.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I have a list.
- 13:47Speaker 3: I'm gonna start with the very first thing, okay, go,
- 13:49Speaker 3: and it's chronologically the first thing, and that is the
- 13:51Speaker 3: opening credits of this movie were displayed like text messages.
- 13:55Speaker 2: They like popped up. It was like, I don't remember,
- 13:57Speaker 2: they just like pop up on the screen.
- 13:58Speaker 1: And why don't I popped up where you're like, oh,
- 14:00Speaker 1: this is a movie made for me. Yeah, I was like,
- 14:03Speaker 1: this is a movie for the youths, which I'm not, yes,
- 14:08Speaker 1: but that's how we communicate though.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought it was a nice commitment to the theme.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Okay, and a little bit backstory is we wouldn't call
- 14:18Speaker 1: ourselves influencers, but we have worked in the space for
- 14:21Speaker 1: a very long time, so we know a lot of
- 14:24Speaker 1: ins and outs about it. We were on Twitter when
- 14:26Speaker 1: Twitter came out.
- 14:27Speaker 2: We met on Twitter.
- 14:29Speaker 1: True story, so yeah, I hear you. What I liked
- 14:34Speaker 1: about this movie is that the through line was not
- 14:39Speaker 1: everything we see on social media is the truth as
- 14:41Speaker 1: it seems, yes or as it seems. And that is
- 14:45Speaker 1: a conversation that is always recurring in our house with
- 14:48Speaker 1: my teenager. So I, while she didn't watch this movie,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I felt validated a little bit, like you know, I am,
- 14:56Speaker 1: I am aware that social media is a big fat lie.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah you liked that message?
- 15:01Speaker 1: I did, I did, I did. I did that messaging
- 15:04Speaker 1: as well, and I'm excited to see what you have
- 15:06Speaker 1: to say because it did go wrong.
- 15:08Speaker 2: It did. I'm not there yet.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I thought Claire Bowen and Annavan, who've had an incredible hair, Oh.
- 15:15Speaker 1: The curls got great hair, curls like that? Well, you
- 15:19Speaker 1: know what was funny? I was like, I know they
- 15:21Speaker 1: play sisters, and is do they just happen to have
- 15:23Speaker 1: curls that are both like that or did they style
- 15:26Speaker 1: them like that?
- 15:26Speaker 3: I don't know, but I fully think Claire Bowen has
- 15:30Speaker 3: curly hair.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I don't know if Anavan whose.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Hair it's not curly in her IMDb photo, which means
- 15:35Speaker 3: absolutely nothing.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I just had my eyes on their hair. It's a
- 15:39Speaker 1: little bit.
- 15:39Speaker 2: I noticed it. Pretty hair, ladies.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I felt like it was real nineties hair. But I
- 15:43Speaker 1: was here for it.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I don't know about Nozema girl hair.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yes, Noxzema girl, ah, Rebecca something or other.
- 15:50Speaker 3: I like the line wreathes like family can be tricky.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that was fine. There were some funny lines in
- 15:56Speaker 1: this movie, funny lines between the sisters. There were funny
- 15:59Speaker 1: lines between Jin and her mom, and there were funny
- 16:02Speaker 1: lines between Gin and Max. So I appreciated the writing
- 16:07Speaker 1: in this movie, and that's what makes me wonder, like
- 16:10Speaker 1: who actually wrote this movie?
- 16:12Speaker 2: Well?
- 16:12Speaker 3: I think one thing this movie did well, although I
- 16:16Speaker 3: don't think it was fully realized, was they took a
- 16:20Speaker 3: challenging parental relationship. And what I think is interesting is
- 16:24Speaker 3: it's not necessarily changing in the ways we think of Like,
- 16:28Speaker 3: her mom.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Wasn't bad parent in the sense that she.
- 16:33Speaker 3: Was neglectful in a dangerous way, abusive or mean. She
- 16:39Speaker 3: just wasn't the mom that her girls needed and is
- 16:44Speaker 3: a little selfish, and I think it's interesting to look
- 16:48Speaker 3: at that, Like, as adults, our relationships with our parents
- 16:51Speaker 3: can be complicated for a lot of reasons, and it
- 16:54Speaker 3: doesn't have to be this big, huge traumatic moment that
- 16:58Speaker 3: changes it. It's just a series of events right where
- 17:02Speaker 3: you come to realize, like, you're not the person I
- 17:04Speaker 3: can count on right to be there for me.
- 17:06Speaker 1: So I got to say that I did like that
- 17:08Speaker 1: element to this story, and it made me pause and
- 17:12Speaker 1: reflect about my own relationship with my own mother, which
- 17:16Speaker 1: was very strained. But then it also made me reflect
- 17:21Speaker 1: on my relationship with my daughter and how I could
- 17:24Speaker 1: do better. So I like the takeaway from that.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Yeah, Okay, can I tell you something I didn't like
- 17:31Speaker 3: And it's not a wish, but I need a place
- 17:33Speaker 3: to put.
- 17:34Speaker 1: It, Okay. I I didn't even think we were talking
- 17:36Speaker 1: about wishes for right now.
- 17:37Speaker 2: No we're not.
- 17:38Speaker 1: I'm just saying like, it's not a like, Okay, it
- 17:40Speaker 1: doesn't go and wish got it. I didn't love my.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Reaction to.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Claire Bowen's portrayal of this woman with I don't know
- 17:52Speaker 3: what we would say, does she have social anxiety. Does
- 17:54Speaker 3: she have extremely low self esteem? Is it anxiety? I
- 17:59Speaker 3: am a person who lives with anxiety. I have a
- 18:03Speaker 3: lot of ways in which to manage it.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I found it uncomfortable to watch me too, And I.
- 18:09Speaker 3: Didn't like feeling like that because you said, like I
- 18:12Speaker 3: just wanted to wrap her up. I just wanted to
- 18:14Speaker 3: be like, snap out.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Oh, snap out of it. Stop it.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Not doing that?
- 18:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's unfair because people have said to me, like,
- 18:24Speaker 3: just just don't worry, don't be anxious.
- 18:27Speaker 2: You look at how nice your life is. What do
- 18:29Speaker 2: you have to worry about.
- 18:30Speaker 3: That's not how it works, That's not how brains work.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 2: So I didn't love the way I felt, But that's
- 18:35Speaker 2: how this.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Movie made me. I wonder because I felt the same way.
- 18:39Speaker 1: And I wonder because you and I both kind of
- 18:42Speaker 1: ride that line. And so I wonder if that was
- 18:44Speaker 1: only like applies to us or people like us who
- 18:47Speaker 1: feel anxious or have whatever, right like, I wonder if
- 18:50Speaker 1: the casual viewer who doesn't struggle with that, like even
- 18:53Speaker 1: it was even a bother to them. Yeah, I'm curious.
- 18:57Speaker 1: I feel the same way like her nervous energy me me,
- 19:01Speaker 1: I couldn't relax watching this movie, and part of me
- 19:05Speaker 1: was like, Okay, bravo, good Okay, bravo, bravo Hallmark for
- 19:12Speaker 1: giving us a character who was struggling with these kind
- 19:14Speaker 1: of things, are struggling with perfection, struggling with self doubt.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I felt it was very relatable for me, and I
- 19:21Speaker 1: was just glad that they have a character like this,
- 19:23Speaker 1: because I'm sure there's lots of people out in the
- 19:25Speaker 1: world who feel that way. But it did make me uncomfortable.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Is there anything else you liked?
- 19:29Speaker 1: Yes?
- 19:30Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:30Speaker 1: I liked Jen's wardrobe. Oh yeah, especially the green dress
- 19:34Speaker 1: that she wore to the dance in the barn. It
- 19:37Speaker 1: was very like Jessica mcclinn talk in velvety. I liked it.
- 19:42Speaker 1: It was pretty cool. Okay. I wish that this movie
- 19:48Speaker 1: didn't have a love story. Oh justice for Max, because.
- 19:52Speaker 3: Why don't think this, Okay, when it comes to the
- 19:56Speaker 3: writers of this movie, when they are submitting a script
- 19:58Speaker 3: for Hallmark, as Hallmarks a you're writing a Christmas movie,
- 20:01Speaker 3: it must have a love story, because we know Hallmark
- 20:04Speaker 3: knows how to tell a story that doesn't have a romance.
- 20:07Speaker 3: They do it in their movies and mysteries movies, but
- 20:09Speaker 3: all of their Christmas movies have a romance, and I
- 20:14Speaker 3: want Hallmark to trust us enough to eliminate that because
- 20:20Speaker 3: I think that the love story is the weakest part
- 20:23Speaker 3: of this movie.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, I don't think.
- 20:25Speaker 2: We needed it.
- 20:26Speaker 3: We had enough to work with with the idea that
- 20:30Speaker 3: social media is a lie and the idea that we
- 20:33Speaker 3: have these complicated parent child relationships. We didn't also need
- 20:37Speaker 3: I'm secretly in love with my best.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Friend, and are you?
- 20:41Speaker 3: Because I think Max liked Emily way more than Emily
- 20:45Speaker 3: liked Max.
- 20:46Speaker 2: And I would like justice for Max.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Because I you know, he's like, I'm gonna take this
- 20:51Speaker 3: job in Portland and she's like, you can't, and he
- 20:53Speaker 3: goes why And I understand not being able to express
- 20:56Speaker 3: those feelings, but you don't even act like.
- 20:59Speaker 2: You like him.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Yeah, never mind not being able to tell him I'm
- 21:02Speaker 1: actually in love with you. Right. But also, they lived
- 21:05Speaker 1: in the Storia. That's not that far away from Portland. Really,
- 21:08Speaker 1: it's not right. We've been to both places.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I did think that same thing.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I think I drove from Portland to Astoria easily, so
- 21:16Speaker 1: I'm like, why can't they do a long distance think
- 21:19Speaker 1: our stupid, But I agree that she she did not
- 21:25Speaker 1: show any interest in him. Yeah, this is a very
- 21:29Speaker 1: valid and fair point. I wished for a little reality
- 21:35Speaker 1: hear me out as someone you and I who follow
- 21:39Speaker 1: a lot of people on social media. We would know
- 21:43Speaker 1: so fast. There's so many Internet sluice out there that
- 21:46Speaker 1: would blow this chick story up in a second that
- 21:50Speaker 1: she was married and had a baby, that she was
- 21:54Speaker 1: faking that right, Yeah, in a hot second. People would
- 21:59Speaker 1: know that.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Yeah, they live in this small town.
- 22:02Speaker 1: They've got their small town exactly. Those people know that's
- 22:04Speaker 1: not your baby. Exactly.
- 22:06Speaker 2: It's gonna get on.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Instagram and be like, that's her sister's baby. Yeah exactly.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I'm like, that's I have that in my night, my noise.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Oh yes, their small town would know that they're not married,
- 22:21Speaker 1: that's not her baby. That it just was so dumb.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Well, and I don't think we needed the fake marriage
- 22:27Speaker 3: and the baby.
- 22:28Speaker 2: No, this story still could.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Have been this fake influencer who's pretending that she's got
- 22:34Speaker 3: it all together without being married and a baby. If
- 22:37Speaker 3: you really want to push back on norms, have it
- 22:41Speaker 3: all together as like a fabulous single lady who's got
- 22:44Speaker 3: these great, look at my my sister.
- 22:47Speaker 1: And her family and I are so close and this
- 22:49Speaker 1: is my best friend and he's part.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Of the business too. Yeah, like, lookot, how wonderful we
- 22:52Speaker 2: all work together.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Right, you didn't need to pretend. I agree, that's.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Gonna fall apart in a second.
- 22:59Speaker 1: That was really fresh ating for me. Actually, the whole
- 23:02Speaker 1: hygienks are like passing the baby through the window and
- 23:04Speaker 1: then like the like the hooga at home people are
- 23:07Speaker 1: not gonna realize Did I say it wrong? No?
- 23:10Speaker 2: I think you should have that.
- 23:11Speaker 1: They're not going to realize that the baby is now
- 23:13Speaker 1: out of the house. They just think this baby's quiet
- 23:15Speaker 1: in the room all day long, come or all night long. Whatever.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Would they have actually stayed in these people's homes? No, No,
- 23:23Speaker 1: which brings me to whigh.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Did you see that? M h? What Airbnb is going
- 23:28Speaker 2: to let you, first of all, take all of their
- 23:29Speaker 2: furniture out?
- 23:30Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Right.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Second of all, like, if you bring a dog to
- 23:34Speaker 3: an Airbnb, your neighbor's gonna be like, yo, no one's
- 23:37Speaker 3: got a dog in your Airbnb.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Your neighbors are.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Definitely gonna call and be like, they're moving all your
- 23:41Speaker 3: furniture right. Second of all, no, the hooga at home
- 23:46Speaker 3: people are not going to stay in some strangers home,
- 23:48Speaker 3: no matter how nice their airbnb that her.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Mom rented for two people is. I don't understand that.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Uh huh?
- 23:53Speaker 3: And how stupid can you be to not set up
- 23:56Speaker 3: a fake nursery?
- 23:58Speaker 1: I know, I know, we don't have a what yeah
- 24:02Speaker 1: these great la uh huh? You couldn't put a pack
- 24:04Speaker 1: and play in your bedroom? I thought of a good idea.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I was like, she should have been like, oh, we
- 24:09Speaker 1: we co sleep, so this baby doesn't have a room.
- 24:12Speaker 1: I don't know something ridiculous like that. It's not that
- 24:15Speaker 1: I'm saying co sleeping is ridiculous. I'm saying that she
- 24:17Speaker 1: could have come up with a yes, cuse a better lie.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Are we moving on to did you see that we did? Okay?
- 24:25Speaker 1: Isn't the saying walk at one talk at two? This
- 24:28Speaker 1: baby is not old enough to say mama?
- 24:29Speaker 3: Oh?
- 24:30Speaker 2: I think no babies were saying mama.
- 24:32Speaker 1: At six months old.
- 24:34Speaker 2: He's only six months.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I don't know, but babies walk before they talk. Typically,
- 24:41Speaker 1: how old was your children when they for said their
- 24:43Speaker 1: first word?
- 24:44Speaker 3: Can the baby say mama at six months? Babies have
- 24:47Speaker 3: allved over time. Some babies can say mama and dada
- 24:49Speaker 3: from six months, although stepp ap to eight is more common.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Okay.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Also, also most babies say dad dad first because it
- 24:56Speaker 3: is developmentally easier than saying mama.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Yeah whatever, that's fine, But I think I don't think
- 25:03Speaker 1: my kid talked till she was like two, so she.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Was saying mama.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I don't remember. It was a long time ago, dude.
- 25:11Speaker 3: My kid didn't watch this until she was one and
- 25:12Speaker 3: a half, so.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I don't even remember. Did you see the hookah at
- 25:17Speaker 1: home team? Who was recording like the stuff the shots
- 25:22Speaker 1: on a freaking iPad? The iPad was on a tripod.
- 25:26Speaker 1: I'm like, what is happening? Like if it's a live
- 25:30Speaker 1: I understand, but they're not recording it on an iPad, y'all.
- 25:33Speaker 1: It's somebody's doing it on a phone camera and iPad sucks, right,
- 25:37Speaker 1: And most of all that stuff is not lives anyway.
- 25:41Speaker 1: They're usually like pre shot and pre edited and then uploaded.
- 25:45Speaker 1: So just a little insider information there going.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Live only tangentially related. When we saw the Rockets for
- 25:53Speaker 3: the first time, they allow recording release they did at
- 25:55Speaker 3: the time, and we got last in a tickets, so
- 25:57Speaker 3: we're in like the last row. It starts and like
- 26:00Speaker 3: one hundred iPads now year to start recording. No watching
- 26:02Speaker 3: the entire show through someone's iPad. I'm like, first of all,
- 26:05Speaker 3: you're never gonna rewatch this, yeah. Second of all, you
- 26:08Speaker 3: look your Karen and iPad around on Ivison to record.
- 26:13Speaker 2: It's dumb show.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I mean, it's usually like the grandparents who have the
- 26:16Speaker 1: iPad whipped out, like at the uh, you know, fourth
- 26:19Speaker 1: grade musical or whatever. Yeah, but like don't allow Yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 1: they did a lot of photography video and just went
- 26:26Speaker 1: an iPad.
- 26:27Speaker 2: All these iPads went in the air.
- 26:28Speaker 1: It's so stupid. I have two more. Did you see?
- 26:32Speaker 2: That's cool?
- 26:33Speaker 1: One of them is a voiceover. I'm certain it's a
- 26:36Speaker 1: voiceover because we don't see the actual people talk. We
- 26:38Speaker 1: just see their back of their heads and they say
- 26:40Speaker 1: hashtag x mess. And I was like, oh, are they
- 26:43Speaker 1: throwing that's it's at the very beginning. It's when she's
- 26:47Speaker 1: talking to the sisters talking about the competition and all
- 26:51Speaker 1: that stuff, and they post their first video and they're
- 26:53Speaker 1: laying hashtag x miss. Anyway, it sounded like it to me. Finally,
- 27:01Speaker 1: I wanted like you to pull up Hallmark's website, and
- 27:06Speaker 1: I want you to find the movie poster for this movie.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Dying to know where we're going with this.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Let's see with them taking a selfie.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Yes, it's hard to see your picture on the app.
- 27:17Speaker 1: In the background is a Christmas tree and it is
- 27:21Speaker 1: decorated with emoji ornaments and Facebook thumb up ornaments and
- 27:26Speaker 1: genuine would never and like Instagram like heart. Yes, she
- 27:31Speaker 1: would never decorate a tree that way.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Oh out it hurts me.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Yeah right, yeah, it's funny. Though I thought I saw
- 27:39Speaker 1: it today, I was like, what.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Would she wear this hideous shirt that has like Christmas
- 27:44Speaker 2: trees on it?
- 27:45Speaker 1: No, she was. She was far more chic than that.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Goofy.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Yeah, would you ring this movie? I gave it two
- 27:53Speaker 1: stars exactly what I gave it to. I. Uh, it
- 27:58Speaker 1: had so much potential.
- 28:00Speaker 2: I think so too.
- 28:01Speaker 1: You know.
- 28:01Speaker 3: I want people listening to know that there's no joy
- 28:05Speaker 3: for me to give a two star movies. No, I
- 28:07Speaker 3: either all five star movies. And as I start watching
- 28:09Speaker 3: this movie, I feel like I don't want to review
- 28:12Speaker 3: it because I know.
- 28:13Speaker 2: How it's gonna go. But that's the truth.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Okay, once again, this is a marathon of episodes this week,
- 28:20Speaker 1: so come back tomorrow for another new episode from Girls
- 28:23Speaker 1: Gone Hallmark. If you haven't left a review, we'd love
- 28:26Speaker 1: for you to do so in the Apple podcast app.
- 28:28Speaker 1: We love five stars, we love a written review. We
- 28:30Speaker 1: love people to be able to find our podcast.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Until tomorrow, Happy watching y'all, Bye bye,
