- 0:00Speaker 1: Well return after these messengers. Yeah, he's a resting podcast shown.
- 0:18Speaker 2: March.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Job everybody, welcome to the bonus episode for the month
- 0:27Speaker 1: of July. We are doing Ghostbusters. I'm sorry to ghost Wow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I can't believe you if I'm lusting makes me feel.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Good, Brosky. This is this is like one of the biggest,
- 0:41Speaker 1: like mean topics since the beginning of the podcast. Brian
- 0:45Speaker 1: not seeing Ghostbusters? Am I right?
- 0:47Speaker 2: I mean, I think it's like a kid not watching
- 0:49Speaker 2: w w F. Come on, I think it's I think
- 0:52Speaker 2: I think it's up there. Yes, I am theories, we'll
- 0:57Speaker 2: get it. I could have. I could have skipped this
- 1:00Speaker 2: and said I've seen it so many times, why watch
- 1:02Speaker 2: it back? For his combo me too. I watched it though,
- 1:05Speaker 2: me too, Me too, And I will say without The
- 1:10Speaker 2: only thing in my opinion that does not hold up
- 1:14Speaker 2: is some of the animation of the fucking terror dog.
- 1:17Speaker 2: When he's like chasing Lewis Tully.
- 1:19Speaker 3: It looks like he's made of clay. But that's how
- 1:21Speaker 3: they probably did it right.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Right when you find out that the movie was made
- 1:26Speaker 1: on a thirty million budget, which is like so small,
- 1:30Speaker 1: made three hundred million, like you understand four. Yeah, nineteen
- 1:34Speaker 1: eighty four. Special effects that was fucking great.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And the practical effects. We'll get into it, but I
- 1:40Speaker 2: think that's what makes the movie. Like the eggs cracking
- 1:43Speaker 2: that was CGI now, which I'm sure it would be
- 1:45Speaker 2: it would look CGI. Yeah, that was a practical effect.
- 1:49Speaker 2: All the cars come out of the car catalog. It's
- 1:52Speaker 2: a practical effect that really happened, like it wasn't CGI.
- 1:55Speaker 2: They figured out how to make it happen.
- 1:56Speaker 1: They put a little they put a little explosion in
- 1:58Speaker 1: the egg, pressed a button. All right, but let's not.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We can't bury the lead here. Everybody wants to fucking
- 2:05Speaker 1: know for years, four years, Brian, you gotta see Ghostbusters. Brian,
- 2:10Speaker 1: what did you think.
- 2:13Speaker 3: You really want to like get into it like that.
- 2:15Speaker 3: I just gonna say, let me, I would say, let
- 2:17Speaker 3: me just state my claim. You say, nineteen eighty four. Yes,
- 2:21Speaker 3: I'm born in nineteen eighty five. I'm gonna blame my
- 2:25Speaker 3: brother because he's a nineteen eighty birthday. Everything that I
- 2:29Speaker 3: was younger, that I attached onto was through him. And
- 2:33Speaker 3: I have zero recollection of Ghostbusters. There was no Ghostbuster
- 2:37Speaker 3: toys in my house. There was no Uh, we didn't
- 2:39Speaker 3: watch the cartoon. What I don't recall watching this movie
- 2:43Speaker 3: on television ever in my life. So, and I'm gonna
- 2:48Speaker 3: blame it all on him, but I'm not mad at
- 2:51Speaker 3: him because I wasn't so thrilled with the movie.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Oh no, oh no, oh no, we're here talking out loud.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I want you guys to start off by saying your
- 3:01Speaker 3: earliest memories of this movie, because it's before you guys
- 3:04Speaker 3: are born too.
- 3:05Speaker 2: So explain well, Mark's Mark's fucking forties. He was alive,
- 3:09Speaker 2: Marks and College came out.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I mean, I was one years old when you were.
- 3:13Speaker 3: I you were in your dorm room with Jay Silverberger
- 3:15Speaker 3: and Molly Allen.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I was not born when it came out. And honestly,
- 3:19Speaker 2: I don't recall if I saw the movie first or
- 3:23Speaker 2: the real Ghosts cartoon. But my earliest memory.
- 3:26Speaker 3: When does that cartoon come out?
- 3:29Speaker 2: I don't even know. It's eight eighty eight.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I got it. I got it, And the cartoon is
- 3:34Speaker 1: absolutely just the idea of the cartoon is insane when
- 3:38Speaker 1: you when you think about it, it's it was like
- 3:40Speaker 1: seven seasons, one hundred and forty episodes.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Wow.
- 3:45Speaker 1: In nineteen eighty six, Ghostbusters Animated television series Real Ghost
- 3:49Speaker 1: Person ran for one hundred and forty episodes over seven
- 3:51Speaker 1: seasons across six years, and there was a spinoff, Slimer
- 3:55Speaker 1: comic Slimer series, and then you.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Never fucking drank Ecdo Cooler as a kid.
- 4:00Speaker 3: That Yeah, you go to a birthday party or someone's
- 4:03Speaker 3: house after school and they have it. But that's a
- 4:05Speaker 3: fucking douice box.
- 4:06Speaker 2: It's not like that's how popular Ghostbusters was. He's not
- 4:09Speaker 2: the fucking me.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Was, Dude. I said this all the time. The first
- 4:11Speaker 3: time I ever fucking met Papa Bear Paul, I asked
- 4:15Speaker 3: to go to the bathroom in my pre K class
- 4:18Speaker 3: and the teacher was walking in the bathroom and he
- 4:20Speaker 3: was shoot in the hallways patrolling. It wasn't Halloween, by
- 4:23Speaker 3: the way, that full jumpsuit and the fucking backpack in
- 4:28Speaker 3: the gimmick patrolling the holes for ghosts. The first time
- 4:30Speaker 3: I remember seeing him before, I said it to his
- 4:34Speaker 3: mom a couple of years ago. He wouldn't take that
- 4:35Speaker 3: fucking thing off.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Well, yeah, he's a big ghost guy.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Before we get to Brian Brusky, throw down all your nostalgia,
- 4:42Speaker 1: the memory how you got to.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I don't recall if I saw the movie first or
- 4:46Speaker 2: the cartoon. But I was obsessed. I had all the toys.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I watched the cartoon, drank at the cooler, had the
- 4:53Speaker 2: fucking jumpsuit, had the fucking pro Tom pack, the trap,
- 4:56Speaker 2: the pik E meter, I had it all. I was
- 5:01Speaker 2: just fucking obsessed with it. I saw Ghostbusters two in
- 5:04Speaker 2: the theater vividly remember seeing in the theater.
- 5:09Speaker 3: When did that come out?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Eighty nine? Like I remember seeing Batman eighty nine in
- 5:12Speaker 2: the theater. So like those memories I have even watching
- 5:17Speaker 2: back this how crazy it is. I was watching it
- 5:19Speaker 2: back last night, and like I remember on my VHS
- 5:23Speaker 2: that I recorded off TV, Like I remembered where the
- 5:26Speaker 2: commercial breaks were. Okay, here's the commercial break, here's the
- 5:29Speaker 2: commercial is where they go to commercial break. Like that's
- 5:31Speaker 2: how many times I watched this VHS that my parents
- 5:35Speaker 2: taped off TV for me. Oh yeah, what about you, Mark?
- 5:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw two first, So I watched the cartoon
- 5:43Speaker 1: and then I saw two first in the theaters my
- 5:46Speaker 1: parents' radiots, and uh so then you know, at some
- 5:51Speaker 1: point I watched the VHS, probably rented it or watched
- 5:53Speaker 1: it on TV of one, and then me and My
- 5:56Speaker 1: brother owned both VHS's and would watch them over and
- 5:59Speaker 1: over again, and that the toys. To me, we're both.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I mean, you know, the technically the toys were the cartoon,
- 6:06Speaker 1: but you know it was the same thing, it was
- 6:08Speaker 1: the same world. It was.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I didn't realize that's the one. You said that a
- 6:11Speaker 3: couple of weeks ago, that yeah, there is no like,
- 6:14Speaker 3: there is no toys, there's no vintage choice for this
- 6:17Speaker 3: movie and it and after watching it, it's like, it's
- 6:19Speaker 3: not a kids movie at all.
- 6:20Speaker 2: No, it's it doesn't become a kid's movie. First of all,
- 6:23Speaker 2: it's supposed to be like a joke. It's not supposed
- 6:26Speaker 2: to be like this. You know, it's supposed to be
- 6:28Speaker 2: like an adult comedy. But they didn't realize that kids
- 6:31Speaker 2: would love that funny either, So I don't know what
- 6:34Speaker 2: it's interesting. I was dying like yeah, because he was
- 6:37Speaker 2: fucking like Chris Farley like this weird space to me, like,
- 6:41Speaker 2: I don't know what. I think.
- 6:43Speaker 1: That's what makes it so great because it's it's not
- 6:45Speaker 1: just a stupid comedy. I'm saying, it's not just a
- 6:50Speaker 1: stupid comedy. It's an actual good movie. That's that's funny.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I mean, if you think about it, think it's supposed
- 6:56Speaker 2: to be. It's written as a comedy and the big
- 6:58Speaker 2: heel at the end is a fucking walking giant marshmallow man.
- 7:02Speaker 2: But the way it's presented, it's like scary and not funny,
- 7:06Speaker 2: and as a kid, it's like petrifying.
- 7:08Speaker 3: That was after all these years, you know, I've seen
- 7:10Speaker 3: that staypuff marshmallow man and you know, toy stores and everything.
- 7:14Speaker 3: But if they get some kind of explanation as to
- 7:17Speaker 3: why that is was interesting after all these.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Years, it was just his stupid dot which was great. Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 1: but real quick on the what I remember too, you know,
- 7:26Speaker 1: obviously similar stuff to you. I watched it a lot,
- 7:28Speaker 1: But one thing that really stuck out to me is
- 7:31Speaker 1: growing up in Massachusetts, my only knowledge of New York
- 7:36Speaker 1: City was through the Ghostbusters, and I remember we went
- 7:41Speaker 1: on a trip to New York. It was like with
- 7:42Speaker 1: my mom and like her work or something, and I
- 7:45Speaker 1: made the entire group go to the out of the
- 7:48Speaker 1: way to go to the library so I could see
- 7:50Speaker 1: the the the statues outside of the library. You know.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Oh yes, because one of the first shots is that
- 7:57Speaker 1: swinging shot around the lion in front of the library,
- 8:00Speaker 1: New York.
- 8:01Speaker 3: How about pretty much anything outside is New York, but
- 8:05Speaker 3: everything inside La.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yes, yes, oh yeah, that was even like the hotel, well,
- 8:12Speaker 2: the hotel is in LA We just stayed for wrestled.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Comm Yeah, so I got I saw right away, right.
- 8:20Speaker 2: My other memories of the movie is that at Universal
- 8:22Speaker 2: Studios there was a Ghostbusters like show, which has since
- 8:28Speaker 2: you know, it's so crazy to me, how like now
- 8:31Speaker 2: you think of Ghostbusters, it's like timeless, it's nostalgic. But
- 8:34Speaker 2: like in nineteen ninety five, they're like, oh, this movie
- 8:37Speaker 2: is old. We got to get rid of it. You know,
- 8:39Speaker 2: it's crazy. I think anything works, but it's it's it's
- 8:42Speaker 2: crazy how something's come back as timeless though you know.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Well people going nuts of American Gladiators, right, But like
- 8:49Speaker 3: I think fucking Netflix series is sure.
- 8:51Speaker 2: But for instance, though, what what replaced Ghostbusters was fucking Twister?
- 8:56Speaker 2: Has Twister stood the No, that's just old, you know
- 9:00Speaker 2: what I'm saying, Like some things fucking live on, like
- 9:04Speaker 2: find another life. You know, I don't know if Twister's
- 9:06Speaker 2: gonna find another life.
- 9:07Speaker 3: If they if they make a Netflix stock about the
- 9:11Speaker 3: drama behind making Twister I'm sure it could give it
- 9:14Speaker 3: some life. It's just that's the way pop culture seems
- 9:17Speaker 3: to work.
- 9:17Speaker 2: What really broke my heart is that, I know, you guys, well,
- 9:20Speaker 2: Mark is more a theme park guy. Like that. The firehouse.
- 9:23Speaker 2: They had a whole firehouse there and it's still up
- 9:26Speaker 2: at Universal, but they took down the sign and one
- 9:27Speaker 2: of the roller coasters just goes right fucking through it.
- 9:31Speaker 2: They like, it's still standard. You can't unless you know
- 9:33Speaker 2: it's the Ghosts Firehuse. It just looks like a firehouse.
- 9:36Speaker 2: And they do have Mark. They have the library there,
- 9:39Speaker 2: like it's it's right there.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I went to Universal in the nineties. I don't remember
- 9:45Speaker 1: this at all.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Well, it wasn't very popular. If you watch it on YouTube,
- 9:48Speaker 2: it's fucking awesome, like the technology, Like I wish they
- 9:52Speaker 2: would bring it back.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no Ghostbuster representation there at.
- 9:56Speaker 2: All, right now, No, of course they have tons of
- 9:59Speaker 2: merch and she's like, but that's it. And they had
- 10:01Speaker 2: it for They do Halloween horrorites every year and a
- 10:04Speaker 2: couple of years ago they built a Halloween Horronit's house
- 10:07Speaker 2: that they broke down. My other memory is that, like,
- 10:10Speaker 2: you know, as you're a kid, like you don't you
- 10:14Speaker 2: can't watch at least me. I thought it was too
- 10:16Speaker 2: cool for like Ghostbusters in like second and third, fourth,
- 10:19Speaker 2: so I wasn't like watching or certainly not playing with
- 10:22Speaker 2: the toys anymore, you know. And then it wasn't until
- 10:25Speaker 2: DVDs came out and you were able to buy like
- 10:27Speaker 2: dv because back in the you couldn't like just go
- 10:29Speaker 2: in and buy you know, ghost It wasn't you know
- 10:32Speaker 2: how v DVDs were crazy, You buy any movie you
- 10:35Speaker 2: wanted on.
- 10:35Speaker 3: Dv Yeah, I feel like VHS era, like if you
- 10:37Speaker 3: didn't get it when it came out, it was gone
- 10:39Speaker 3: and then like something.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah, So I got Ghostbusters one of the first DVDs
- 10:45Speaker 2: I got, and it was the first time I watched.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I wasn't an adult, I was a teenager maybe ninth grade,
- 10:49Speaker 2: and I got all the adult humor where I started
- 10:53Speaker 2: to appreciate the movie on a whole another level. Like
- 10:56Speaker 2: you know, when Peter Vankman is checking out Dana's apartment
- 11:00Speaker 2: about to go in the bedroom, and she's like, that's
- 11:02Speaker 2: the bedroom, but nothing ever happens in there, and he goes,
- 11:04Speaker 2: what a crime. He's like dying laughing.
- 11:07Speaker 1: When I just like that the other day. I knew
- 11:09Speaker 1: it was coming. Smile here to hear likes you the line.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I'm dying like you don't get that as a kid,
- 11:15Speaker 2: you know, well, what.
- 11:16Speaker 1: About when when when Ray gets blown by the ghost kid,
- 11:19Speaker 1: I had no idea what was happening?
- 11:21Speaker 3: What the data bar What does he say with the
- 11:24Speaker 3: guy's little cock who.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Oh, yes, it's true this man has no dick. Yeah.
- 11:31Speaker 3: I was actually like that was the most like blunt
- 11:34Speaker 3: one where I was like Jesus on the plane, like.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Data Barrow when she's possessed once Peter, just like I
- 11:39Speaker 2: want you inside me.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I don't, but I guess that could go both ways.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Is a ghost right?
- 11:45Speaker 2: Yeah? But so there was no toys for so long.
- 11:51Speaker 2: There wasn't that it was so easy to collect anything.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Ghostbusters where I remember Neka when I was in high
- 11:57Speaker 2: school or maybe early college came out with Ghosts Busters,
- 12:00Speaker 2: but it was just a terror dog Gozer Climber and
- 12:04Speaker 2: the giant Marshball because they didn't make the humans.
- 12:07Speaker 3: But then didn't they make the humans, but like Bill
- 12:08Speaker 3: Murray didn't sign off on it. So there's like a
- 12:10Speaker 3: set where there's like no Bill Murray. I'm sure, there's
- 12:12Speaker 3: a couple of things like that, but not something like that.
- 12:15Speaker 3: But now now there's so much Ghostbuster merch where I
- 12:18Speaker 3: can't get it all where. It's like since since the movie,
- 12:21Speaker 3: I mean there's you know, if you count those neck
- 12:23Speaker 3: as as Ghostbuster, which they are, but there's no humans.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Then Mattel made some awesome ones Diamond Select, and now
- 12:30Speaker 3: Hasbro makes them. But there's what I want is I
- 12:33Speaker 3: want Hasbro to go back and how they've been doing
- 12:35Speaker 3: like the retro Star Wars for characters.
- 12:37Speaker 2: They never made. I want them to make the movie
- 12:39Speaker 2: guys in the retro form, like the real Ghostbuster form.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I see what you're saying. I would like I was
- 12:45Speaker 1: thinking about this since we're talking about the toys already.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I would like, so those the Hasbro ones are great,
- 12:52Speaker 1: but there are not ultimates. So there they are twenty
- 12:56Speaker 1: dollars toys, you know, like like they.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Like Hasbro Black Series, Yeah they don't.
- 13:02Speaker 1: They don't all come with the streams for example, and
- 13:04Speaker 1: it's just like it's like they're not ultimates. I would
- 13:07Speaker 1: love the four dudes in an ultimate somewhere. I don't
- 13:11Speaker 1: know what company has to do. I had the Hasbro's
- 13:15Speaker 1: and I got rid of them because I just feel
- 13:17Speaker 1: like it's some day they're gonna have They're gonna make
- 13:20Speaker 1: like a necka well.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Me.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Mesco makes this. A couple of Mesco makes them, which
- 13:26Speaker 2: more high end, and even the Diamond select Ones are
- 13:30Speaker 2: really good, but yeah, you have one of the best ones.
- 13:32Speaker 2: The Diamond select Ones are the best, but the Hazbro ones,
- 13:35Speaker 2: like you said, like I think only Winston comes with
- 13:38Speaker 2: the actual stream.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, come on, no, I want all the pieces. I
- 13:41Speaker 1: want full blown. I want full blown ultimates, different heads
- 13:44Speaker 1: ship like that.
- 13:45Speaker 2: And it's it's the Ghostbuster figures that got me hooked
- 13:48Speaker 2: on funk Goos because I was like always on like
- 13:51Speaker 2: gb News orgbfans dot com or something. I always check
- 13:54Speaker 2: out New Merchant. I saw the funk Is, like what
- 13:55Speaker 2: are these things? And I googled it. I'm like, wait,
- 13:58Speaker 2: they make Star Wars and they just heard to like
- 14:00Speaker 2: this is fucking awesome. And then you know, that's how
- 14:03Speaker 2: I went down that rabbit hole with the Funkos.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Absolutely. Do you do you remember anything about the cartoon?
- 14:10Speaker 3: May vaguely. I mean I remember like kids I played
- 14:13Speaker 3: with had the tower, which I thought was cool, and
- 14:15Speaker 3: a lot of I remember the toilet. Everyone had the toilet,
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yes everyone, I had that old lady that would remember.
- 14:23Speaker 3: That's all I got.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I love the toys. I had most of them as
- 14:27Speaker 2: a kid. Uh Now I have every single regular release one.
- 14:31Speaker 1: There's a video on our YouTube of Brosky literally in
- 14:35Speaker 1: the Pandemic unboxing. I think every vintage goes, almost every
- 14:39Speaker 1: vintage Ghostbuster figure.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It's a lot like it's so weird because like the
- 14:43Speaker 2: marshmallow people say, like the marshmallow Man and Slimer are
- 14:46Speaker 2: technically Ghostbusters one figures, but they're not because they were
- 14:50Speaker 2: brought into the cartoon, you know.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Right right, right right.
- 14:54Speaker 2: It's like they're not depicting the movie. I can see
- 14:57Speaker 2: how people say that, but they're not.
- 14:59Speaker 3: It's cheating.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Yeah, So technically no figures for the movie, which I
- 15:03Speaker 2: guess I can understand one, right because one is technically
- 15:06Speaker 2: an adult comedy, but by two it's a fucking kiddy movie.
- 15:11Speaker 2: And they did two so different. It's me too, okay,
- 15:17Speaker 2: but they so like for instance, they they there are
- 15:21Speaker 2: kind of toys, but there's no figures like they do
- 15:23Speaker 2: the Slime Pack, which I don't think is in any
- 15:26Speaker 2: cartoon like the because the ghos supposed to the backpack
- 15:29Speaker 2: they wear shoot slime, so that's they have that for
- 15:33Speaker 2: the kids. And then they also made uh the echo
- 15:37Speaker 2: a role play item, Yes, a roleplay item. And they
- 15:40Speaker 2: made like a repaint of the Ecdo one the Ghostbusters
- 15:44Speaker 2: car from the cartoon. It's also from the movie, but
- 15:46Speaker 2: with more like slime stickers, like pink slime stickers, and
- 15:49Speaker 2: the Ghostbusters two logo, so I guess that's technically Ghostbusters
- 15:53Speaker 2: two but there's no figures.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Yeah, the Ecto one rock that toy was fucking amazing,
- 16:00Speaker 1: had that forever. Uh, But yeah, the cartoon was very weird.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Like I tried to watch it recently. I think during
- 16:07Speaker 1: the pandemic. I popped it on like in the background
- 16:09Speaker 1: when I was doing cards or something. It's it's very weird.
- 16:12Speaker 1: It's like, uh, you know, obviously the Bill Murray character
- 16:16Speaker 1: is not like Bill Murray in the cartoon.
- 16:18Speaker 2: He's just kind of like it, isn't it Dave Cooler
- 16:22Speaker 2: or is he right? He's one of them?
- 16:23Speaker 1: Oh ship, Yeah, Dave kool Ai does do his voice
- 16:25Speaker 1: in it.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I want to say he's Peter Vankman.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Probably, It's just it's not like the adult kind
- 16:33Speaker 1: of guy that you that you love it, but it's
- 16:36Speaker 1: a whole I think it's like a different entity. It's
- 16:38Speaker 1: like it's just I.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Don't understood why, Like they change Egon's hair color, Like
- 16:42Speaker 2: why did they do that?
- 16:43Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 16:44Speaker 1: Right, he's blonde and curly haired.
- 16:45Speaker 2: It's weird not curly. I guess the hair is the
- 16:48Speaker 2: same the style, but the blonde is weird.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Yeah, that is weird.
- 16:52Speaker 2: But Brian, he didn't like it.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Yeah, so what's the deal? What's like?
- 16:57Speaker 3: I don't feel they need to ever watch it again
- 16:58Speaker 3: with that. I think without Bill Murray, it's a barely
- 17:05Speaker 3: watchable movie.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Uh.
- 17:09Speaker 3: And I have no sentimental attachment to it. I think
- 17:11Speaker 3: that's the big problem, big time. And I like Bill Murray.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Like if I were to meet Bill Murray, I would
- 17:19Speaker 3: seriously mark out and like lose my mind. But yeah,
- 17:22Speaker 3: I uh like, it's not like he's not one of
- 17:24Speaker 3: my favorites. Like, so I wasn't watching it like, oh
- 17:26Speaker 3: it's a Bill Murray mooe. You know, I don't know.
- 17:29Speaker 3: It was interesting to learn, you know, all these characters
- 17:33Speaker 3: and things that I've known kind of for years but
- 17:34Speaker 3: never really understood the meaning behind a lot of them,
- 17:37Speaker 3: or the.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Point did you chuckle? Did you laugh? No?
- 17:42Speaker 3: Like I barely that another thing you guys are here
- 17:44Speaker 3: was a comedy or it was a couple weeks back
- 17:46Speaker 3: WI about the funniest movies of all time Broster, Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters,
- 17:49Speaker 3: Like it wasn't even like it's no part part jokes.
- 17:53Speaker 1: But I was dying. I was dying when I was
- 17:57Speaker 1: watching it. I'm on the treadmill, just fucking dying.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Morning Weavers beautiful. Uh, he's great, today's years old. Whenever
- 18:06Speaker 3: you call Billy Walter peck, Yeah, I thought that was
- 18:11Speaker 3: a reference to what is that fucking I never watched
- 18:16Speaker 3: it either, that show where they do deal drugs. Oh yeah,
- 18:21Speaker 3: I thought it was a Walter White thing for some reason.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I don't know why. It's no clue what the fuck
- 18:25Speaker 3: Walter Beck was.
- 18:28Speaker 1: That was like a weird I was like, what Nickolas Walter?
- 18:32Speaker 3: So, wait's a Billy pack is dickless?
- 18:34Speaker 2: Oh my god?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Spread d rumors.
- 18:38Speaker 3: So that was a big Were you bored watching it
- 18:43Speaker 3: a little bit? Yeah? And we're talking flight to Australia.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Passed out like stand up as long as I could,
- 18:50Speaker 3: passed out a big long sleep, A meal, and I
- 18:53Speaker 3: was like ready and alert to watch this thing, and
- 18:55Speaker 3: it just didn't really do much for me. I will
- 18:58Speaker 3: say this, Rick Moranis character is Tony Khan exactly.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Yeah. Wow, that was another revelation I had, Well did
- 19:15Speaker 3: you I was.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I was trying to watch it with I try to
- 19:20Speaker 1: watch a lot of these movies. I talk about this
- 19:21Speaker 1: a lot. I talked about it last week, like, you know, what,
- 19:23Speaker 1: are we watching this with nostalgia goggles or whatever. I
- 19:26Speaker 1: really tried to watch it critically, and I'm looked at
- 19:29Speaker 1: the performances, looked at the transitions, looked at tried to
- 19:32Speaker 1: put myself in a position of somebody who was watching
- 19:34Speaker 1: this for the first time, and I still look I
- 19:37Speaker 1: came out of Hook, I said it was very fun.
- 19:39Speaker 1: I would love to watch it again, but I could
- 19:41Speaker 1: see why people didn't like it. This one. I watched
- 19:43Speaker 1: it and I just thought it's a great movie. I
- 19:46Speaker 1: thought that it was skillfully put together.
- 19:48Speaker 2: It was so clever.
- 19:50Speaker 3: I like the exact opposite experience with Hook, where I
- 19:54Speaker 3: loved it as a kid now watching as an adult
- 19:56Speaker 3: through and I tried to do the same thing. I
- 19:58Speaker 3: tried to have like a critical because I watched that
- 19:59Speaker 3: thing where there's you know that it was critically buried,
- 20:03Speaker 3: and dude, Rob Williams and fucking uh Hook have like
- 20:09Speaker 3: incredible performances in that, like yeah that Live Live On.
- 20:13Speaker 3: I think it's visually unbelievable, like Ghostwisters. I don't know, man,
- 20:17Speaker 3: it's just such an acquired it's so bizarre.
- 20:19Speaker 1: That like, you know what, you know what you're about
- 20:22Speaker 1: to say, the acquired taste. There might be something to that.
- 20:26Speaker 1: There might be something to that because he takes coffee
- 20:29Speaker 1: the first time and it's kind of like, look, but
- 20:32Speaker 1: then it eventually gets delicious.
- 20:34Speaker 3: I mean, dude, there's been plenty of movies like I
- 20:37Speaker 3: remember Brosket wearing Deep South. We saw Talladega Nights. I
- 20:40Speaker 3: remember like, man, this movie is kind of stupid, and
- 20:42Speaker 3: then I would just keep watching it and watching it
- 20:44Speaker 3: and watching it, and it's like, I think it's one
- 20:46Speaker 3: of the fucking funniest movies ever. Now you know what
- 20:48Speaker 3: I mean?
- 20:49Speaker 1: There could be something to that, Broskey, what do you think?
- 20:51Speaker 3: I mean?
- 20:51Speaker 2: Maybe? Uh, it's hard for me to watch it without
- 20:54Speaker 2: nostalgic goggles because it's one of my if not I
- 20:57Speaker 2: feel like.
- 20:58Speaker 3: If you guys love that as a kid, you're ex
- 20:59Speaker 3: and age from this conversation with weirdo like me that's
- 21:03Speaker 3: missed it somehow.
- 21:04Speaker 2: But even like, you know, when they talking about all
- 21:05Speaker 2: the scientific things, the fact that it sounds like scientific
- 21:09Speaker 2: and real and it's not like goofy, I think that's
- 21:11Speaker 2: what makes it all like fun and believable to me,
- 21:14Speaker 2: where it's not like the schoolost thing over here is
- 21:17Speaker 2: like really like they're saying like this exact scientific bs
- 21:20Speaker 2: and especially when they're talking about.
- 21:22Speaker 3: Their ghostbusters were scientists and all that ship.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Until I watched this doctor Benkman back off Man, I'm
- 21:26Speaker 2: a scientist. So even then, what's his name, Winston isn't
- 21:31Speaker 2: even like an original one? He comes in, he comes
- 21:33Speaker 2: that's that's supposed to be Eddie Murphy.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's not originally.
- 21:39Speaker 3: And Murphy's supposed to be one of the three. Yeah,
- 21:41Speaker 3: I watched I watched the movies that make It's on Netflix,
- 21:44Speaker 3: Movies that made Us. Really he's supposed to be one
- 21:47Speaker 3: of the three. And then Belushi is supposed to be
- 21:52Speaker 3: Jim Uh, I'm gonna lose my mind here. Jim Belushi
- 21:56Speaker 3: is supposed to be Bill Murray yeah, but.
- 21:59Speaker 2: He dies and then another weird John Belushi or John sorry,
- 22:05Speaker 2: John Belushy, uh, the other weird.
- 22:07Speaker 3: But they wanted Slimmer to look like John Belushi. I
- 22:10Speaker 3: don't know if it was like a tribute or something,
- 22:13Speaker 3: and the guy was doing it just kind of yeah, yeah.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Then but he said I didn't do it. They saw,
- 22:17Speaker 3: he said they saw Slimer was like, oh, it looks great,
- 22:19Speaker 3: looks just like him. He's like, I didn't even try.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Really, And.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought that was that was interesting, And you
- 22:25Speaker 1: actually think.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Like, if it was Belushi, I probably would like the
- 22:28Speaker 3: movie a little bit better because I like that guy.
- 22:32Speaker 1: That is insane.
- 22:34Speaker 3: Probably I'm just I'm guessing here, right.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I think that this is like the the apex of
- 22:39Speaker 1: Bill Murray, which is which is saying a lot, because
- 22:43Speaker 1: he's had classics.
- 22:45Speaker 2: I just like, he's just so cool in the movie,
- 22:48Speaker 2: even at like the end.
- 22:48Speaker 3: Of the same fucking character in all these movies.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Dude, Wells one's coming in Marshmallow. He's got like a
- 22:54Speaker 2: drop autumn. It was like I had to tell And
- 22:57Speaker 2: he's got like a little bit on his shoulder.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I love small things. He when they walk into the
- 23:02Speaker 1: first time they're going to the hotel. They walk into
- 23:04Speaker 1: the hotel, he's like any would see a ghost, and
- 23:06Speaker 1: then that girl walks by and he just kind of
- 23:08Speaker 1: eyes her. She looks he's just so slick. I'll say
- 23:13Speaker 1: this does not age well. When he's trying to bang
- 23:15Speaker 1: his student at the college, that doesn't age.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Or what about when what about when he had just
- 23:22Speaker 2: drugs on him to drug Dana Barrett just pat about
- 23:26Speaker 2: it and like fucking drugs drugs and knock her fuck
- 23:30Speaker 2: it out. Yeah, that is doesn't doesn't age.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Well, yeah, there was a couple of things there.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I had no problem with him hitting on the student though.
- 23:36Speaker 2: It's not like she was because it's in so much comedy, right, Yeah,
- 23:40Speaker 2: she was, and she wasn't a kindergarten. She's a fucking
- 23:44Speaker 2: college well, you know, she's a fucking go over her master.
- 23:48Speaker 2: She could be fucking thirty.
- 23:51Speaker 1: So one of the things that I saw was, you know,
- 23:54Speaker 1: dan Aykroyd grew up his like his entire family was
- 23:57Speaker 1: were like ghost hunters.
- 23:58Speaker 3: They like that's in the thing too. Yeah, that explains
- 24:01Speaker 3: all that he wrote this and it went through like
- 24:03Speaker 3: a lot, a lot of a lot of changes because.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Harold was changing a lot.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, the director and stuff, they all kind of
- 24:11Speaker 3: collaborated on it to change.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Its Three was rumored to come out for fucking years
- 24:17Speaker 2: but it never did. Uh. And then there was like
- 24:20Speaker 2: the Ghostbusters with the Women, which we're not going to
- 24:23Speaker 2: talk about.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Wait, so from two, that's the next ghost Wister movie.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and I don't even count that. So really the
- 24:29Speaker 2: next Ghostbuster movie is the one that came out like
- 24:31Speaker 2: two years ago. Holy shit, because the Girl one. Not
- 24:35Speaker 2: only it's it's in a different universe. It's just I
- 24:38Speaker 2: realized there was that gap.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Was that big. Yeah.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Bill Mertle just kept saying no.
- 24:42Speaker 2: He just kept saying no.
- 24:43Speaker 1: He didn't like two. He thought that he was disappointed
- 24:47Speaker 1: with two, and he thought, why do it again?
- 24:49Speaker 3: He was already a pretty big star when he took
- 24:51Speaker 3: this role. So yeah, there's a big thing on that
- 24:55Speaker 3: Netflix show about like how they they booked them for
- 24:57Speaker 3: but they weren't sure they'd actually even show up. Damn,
- 25:00Speaker 3: Like no confirmation or nothing. That he showed up like
- 25:03Speaker 3: it was like ten am start of the filming. He
- 25:06Speaker 3: showed up at like eight am with no heads up
- 25:08Speaker 3: or Notah, I just appeared and they're like Jesus Christ.
- 25:11Speaker 2: I gotta watch his movies that made us. I don't
- 25:13Speaker 2: think I've ever seen it.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I've definitely seen it.
- 25:14Speaker 3: I don't remember it.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Is it recent or is it old?
- 25:17Speaker 1: No, it was one of the original ones.
- 25:19Speaker 3: It's two or three years old.
- 25:20Speaker 2: I probably seen it. I just forget yea years ago.
- 25:23Speaker 3: It's got a lot of tidbits in it that I
- 25:25Speaker 3: felt like I needed to like out on top of
- 25:27Speaker 3: my experience.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think some of the like like you said,
- 25:30Speaker 2: marshmallow Man Slimer, I think they're everyone knows what those are,
- 25:34Speaker 2: at least maybe not by name, but like recognize him,
- 25:38Speaker 2: you know. I think it's like a like a Darth Vader,
- 25:41Speaker 2: So everyone knows Darth Vader. They know it's something and
- 25:43Speaker 2: then then correct me if I'm wrong. On the cartoon,
- 25:45Speaker 2: they like befriend Slimmer and he's like, yeah, he's a
- 25:49Speaker 2: bit And then he even in ghost bushes too. He
- 25:51Speaker 2: comes in it's like a baby face. He's like riding
- 25:53Speaker 2: the bus and he helps like Lewis Tully get to
- 25:55Speaker 2: the Statue of Liberty.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yeah, why is Lewis Tully back? He's one of the
- 26:01Speaker 3: what are the Ghostbusters? No, I thought that was Rick
- 26:03Speaker 3: Moran's character. What's his name, Lewis Tully is Rick moranis Wait,
- 26:08Speaker 3: he becomes a Ghostbuster.
- 26:09Speaker 1: He's like, they're accountant, He's there, Accountant, He's there, He's there.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Chiappetta, Yeah, she definitely that is exactly he comes back.
- 26:16Speaker 2: He comes back.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Uh. I know you say we're not gonna talk about
- 26:19Speaker 1: the girls one. I will just put this on record.
- 26:21Speaker 1: The I just think the big mistake with that film.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Uh.
- 26:25Speaker 1: And and you can't say anything bad about it because
- 26:28Speaker 1: people call you sexist.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I know it has nothing to do with it being girls.
- 26:30Speaker 2: It's not good.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I think that the worst problem is that they fucking
- 26:36Speaker 1: you can't make a Ghostbusters movie in a different universe.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Can't do it? You can't.
- 26:42Speaker 3: It's not do you mean it's a different universe?
- 26:44Speaker 1: Like so in this universe, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray
- 26:47Speaker 1: did not exist, and this is just from these girls
- 26:51Speaker 1: made up Ghostbusters.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Oh if you know that, I feel like that. No, fine,
- 26:55Speaker 3: no you can't.
- 26:56Speaker 2: I actually I wanted that movie to succeed. I thought
- 27:00Speaker 2: I saw it opening day and even up until like
- 27:04Speaker 2: the first scene before the credits, are like, fuck, this
- 27:06Speaker 2: actually might be good, and then the bell rang. They
- 27:09Speaker 2: really started was like this and just got worse and worse,
- 27:13Speaker 2: and then like they try to tease you and use
- 27:15Speaker 2: like the marshmallow Man as like like a like a
- 27:18Speaker 2: like a parade inflatable balloon. It's like, oh, stop, is
- 27:21Speaker 2: it not the same universe or it is, come on,
- 27:23Speaker 2: what are you doing here? Like Slimer's in it, but
- 27:26Speaker 2: it's not Slimer because it's not the same universe. It's
- 27:28Speaker 2: really really weird. Well, you guys both loved After Life.
- 27:31Speaker 2: After Life is great, unbelievable lies, After Life great.
- 27:35Speaker 1: It was just a well made movie.
- 27:37Speaker 3: You know.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Look, I still love one and stuff and After Life
- 27:41Speaker 1: I think, I I if they never make another movie,
- 27:45Speaker 1: I might be a little disappointed with Afterlife. But I
- 27:47Speaker 1: feel like they set up a lot for the future.
- 27:49Speaker 1: So it was a real nice tribute to Harold Remis.
- 27:53Speaker 3: I would say, who's in it from that original?
- 27:55Speaker 2: They all are in it at the very very, very
- 27:57Speaker 2: very end. So it's about the new generation, which I like,
- 27:59Speaker 2: but it ties everything together and it's in the same universe,
- 28:02Speaker 2: and it's about like Egon's granddaughter. It starts with Egon's
- 28:07Speaker 2: dying because in real life. He's dead, so it's all dying.
- 28:11Speaker 2: They're all in it great and and and even yes,
- 28:15Speaker 2: and then at the end they make like Egon come
- 28:18Speaker 2: as a ghost and help his granddaughter and they're both
- 28:22Speaker 2: like using the pro it's I have a goose what
- 28:24Speaker 2: I'm talking about.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Like filming wise, if he was deceased.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Computer animated, he was a ghost, so he was like
- 28:32Speaker 1: wavy and stuff, you know, So it's like still, it's like, yeah,
- 28:37Speaker 1: it's a it's a great movie.
- 28:39Speaker 2: But I loved it, and I loved that they the
- 28:41Speaker 2: merch was like on fire, great merch figures were great.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Maybe I'd watch that then all that I would dabble.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Now that I can connect the dots.
- 28:51Speaker 2: And and now now that you say that mark they did,
- 28:56Speaker 2: I'm an idiot. They have made when they made this movie,
- 28:59Speaker 2: they the kids as you know, like the real Ghostbuster style,
- 29:04Speaker 2: and they did finally make the original guys, they did
- 29:07Speaker 2: do it. What do you mean like they made the
- 29:11Speaker 2: original four in the eighty style.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Yeah but they did.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but I just said earlier than I wish they did.
- 29:18Speaker 2: But they they did.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, but that's what I was saying.
- 29:21Speaker 1: They did are not ultimates they're great figures.
- 29:23Speaker 2: But yeah, right right, so there's like no, but I
- 29:27Speaker 2: mean they made them in like the retro style as well,
- 29:29Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Oh ship, yeah, you're right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah they did. Huh.
- 29:34Speaker 2: They're not exactly like the real ghost was, They're close enough.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Does Brian need to watch two to watch the new one?
- 29:42Speaker 3: No?
- 29:42Speaker 1: Two's fun though, you see the bro just put it
- 29:47Speaker 1: on a flight.
- 29:48Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Vigo. The painting is the big Two is.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I think a little more nostalgic to me, to be honest.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Because two is like the two is the one like
- 29:59Speaker 2: I saw in the theater there too is definitely were
- 30:01Speaker 2: kiddie one.
- 30:01Speaker 3: That's what Yeah, the kittie part.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I don't think it's better because there's nobody getting blown
- 30:07Speaker 1: in it by a ghost.
- 30:08Speaker 3: But I'm gonna stand by it. Like gohwis one stands
- 30:10Speaker 3: in this weird space where it's like in between like
- 30:13Speaker 3: an adult film and the kids film.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Well, I think that's the problem with two, and that's
- 30:18Speaker 2: why I don't think it was as successful, because I
- 30:20Speaker 2: think it's trying to please both, where like one accidentally
- 30:24Speaker 2: turned into like this kid movie where Two because of
- 30:28Speaker 2: the success of the toy line and the real Ghostbus
- 30:31Speaker 2: cartoon and the fucking I see they made it. They
- 30:35Speaker 2: tried to appeal to both. I think that's why I
- 30:38Speaker 2: kind of fell a little flat.
- 30:39Speaker 1: But I'll have you know, I might this week on
- 30:42Speaker 1: my travels, I might watch two again, just to just
- 30:44Speaker 1: to compare, because I have it so fresh. But I
- 30:47Speaker 1: think I liked it more. But that's a nostalgia goggle,
- 30:49Speaker 1: so I'm not totally sure.
- 30:50Speaker 2: I'll have to watch it with my both very hard
- 30:52Speaker 2: video games.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Okay, well, we're gonna talk about that video game.
- 30:56Speaker 3: I don't remember video games at all.
- 30:58Speaker 1: The Nintendo game is fun looking ridiculous too, are insane?
- 31:04Speaker 3: When did those come out?
- 31:05Speaker 2: At the time of the release in eighty four, a
- 31:08Speaker 2: Nintendo game came out whatever West.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Western Nintendo game came out before too. It was one
- 31:15Speaker 1: of the earliest Nintendo games.
- 31:17Speaker 3: As I say, that doesn't add up.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Not in eighty four, No, yeah, no way, it's got
- 31:24Speaker 2: to be close. I mean it's before eighty nine, because
- 31:26Speaker 2: Ghost was Tues eighty nine.
- 31:28Speaker 1: I'm looking it up right now.
- 31:30Speaker 2: I never played it until like years after.
- 31:34Speaker 1: It's so hard I could never even I mentioned this,
- 31:39Speaker 1: and people shout it. I mentioned on the podcast if
- 31:41Speaker 1: You Oh Fuck nineteen eighty four What He's a game
- 31:48Speaker 1: originally released in nineteen eighty four.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Sure three one.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry it was released.
- 31:56Speaker 1: It was released in North America nineteen eighty eight.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Sorry, sorry, sorry, that makes a lot more sense.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I have the Ghostbusters pinball machine in my house. It
- 32:05Speaker 2: was one of the first things I ever bought about
- 32:08Speaker 2: that I have that and thrilled, Well, I got it
- 32:12Speaker 2: before her, the Ghostbusters I think I had. I think
- 32:15Speaker 2: I had that before I met her. But when I
- 32:19Speaker 2: first moved in, I was injured. There was really nothing
- 32:21Speaker 2: to do. I had no furniture or anything, so I
- 32:24Speaker 2: would just play that fucking arcade And for some reason,
- 32:26Speaker 2: you could lower the volume of it, but every time
- 32:29Speaker 2: the librarian screams, it's like the volume is still ten
- 32:32Speaker 2: to ten, so it sounds like I'm killing people, like
- 32:34Speaker 2: when in the middle of the night, like if you
- 32:36Speaker 2: would scream like like for some reason, that volume is
- 32:40Speaker 2: always a tad out of tad.
- 32:42Speaker 1: For the thought of Prosky alone in an apartment with
- 32:48Speaker 1: no house.
- 32:49Speaker 3: A Ghostbuster pinball.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Just playing pinball standing up like what is he sipping
- 32:54Speaker 1: fucking wine playing pinball by it.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Actually, I love pinball and I love that game. I'm
- 33:00Speaker 2: look at right now. I have a full sized Neca
- 33:02Speaker 2: foam slimer in my toy room. I have fucking two
- 33:06Speaker 2: Proton packs. One's custom like purple and orange, zach Ryder,
- 33:10Speaker 2: the haz Lab pro toop like I have so much
- 33:13Speaker 2: one but naked at your house. That's the one. That's
- 33:17Speaker 2: the one.
- 33:20Speaker 1: A couple of things. So it was one hundred and
- 33:23Speaker 1: five minutes, it was thirty million, did two hundred and
- 33:26Speaker 1: ninety five point two million box office? Okay, A couple
- 33:29Speaker 1: of things. I noticed. How about Carl Winslow being a
- 33:32Speaker 1: cop in the movie. Yes, yeah, so does that mean
- 33:35Speaker 1: die Hard and family matters are in the Ghostbusters universe.
- 33:40Speaker 2: It's not supposed to be Karl wins I.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Think it's Carl Winslow, guys, So yeah, I think it's
- 33:45Speaker 1: carled Uh. I noticed her groceries. She goes to the
- 33:50Speaker 1: grocery store. Here's what she got, guys. Marshmallows stay puffed
- 33:55Speaker 1: by the way.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Yeah, little easter eggs.
- 33:59Speaker 3: That's not a real It's like Ghostwuster made up. Yeah. Yeah,
- 34:02Speaker 3: I think I realized that either.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Cart and eggs, celery and sardines. That was everything in
- 34:08Speaker 1: her I don't know what the deal with sardines were
- 34:12Speaker 1: in the eighties. I don't know if it was like
- 34:13Speaker 1: a health food or some ship everybody.
- 34:16Speaker 3: Ye, people don't even talk about it now.
- 34:18Speaker 2: I'm the The not behind the scenes was called the
- 34:23Speaker 2: deleted scenes on the TVD. There's a scene and thank
- 34:26Speaker 2: god I got the leader whis looks horrible. Then after
- 34:28Speaker 2: the marshmallow Man blows up that his hat just kind
- 34:31Speaker 2: of floats to the streets of New York City like
- 34:33Speaker 2: a fucking got fucking I don't know, I don't know.
- 34:36Speaker 3: It's not. It's not in the movie. That's definitely discussed
- 34:39Speaker 3: on this thing. It might be on that Netflix thing. Yeah,
- 34:43Speaker 3: it doesn't.
- 34:43Speaker 2: It's not, And it's on the final cut of the
- 34:45Speaker 2: film that god looks it's horrible.
- 34:47Speaker 3: That's funny, though, that's a little too funny.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I think one thing that I read, uh, there was
- 34:53Speaker 1: some gorilla filmmaking that took place, capturing spontaneous scenes at
- 34:56Speaker 1: iconic locations around the city, including one shot at rockfallm
- 35:00Speaker 1: Center where the actors were chased off by a real
- 35:02Speaker 1: security guard. So there's one shot. I remember of them
- 35:06Speaker 1: running down the street, but the music is playing the
- 35:08Speaker 1: running down the street and you can see the guy
- 35:11Speaker 1: behind them like he's not an he's not an actor,
- 35:15Speaker 1: He's like a guy walking down the street, like what's happening?
- 35:18Speaker 1: Why are What's what's going on?
- 35:20Speaker 3: It's great.
- 35:21Speaker 1: And then when I read that, I was like.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Oh, I can't immensely the song is unbelievable.
- 35:27Speaker 1: I think the soundtrack is great.
- 35:29Speaker 3: I mean, just the main song, We'll Stand the Test
- 35:33Speaker 3: of Time.
- 35:33Speaker 1: For Ghostbusters nominated for two Academy Awards Best Original Song
- 35:39Speaker 1: for Ghostbusters by Ray Parker Junior, and didn't win. It
- 35:42Speaker 1: did not win, lost to Stevie Wonders. I just called
- 35:44Speaker 1: to say I Love You, which is a phenomenal song.
- 35:46Speaker 3: That's a good song.
- 35:47Speaker 2: What movie is that?
- 35:48Speaker 1: From The Woman in Red?
- 35:51Speaker 2: I just go I mean I do know that song,
- 35:53Speaker 2: but great song.
- 35:55Speaker 1: They also were nominated for Best Visual Effects, but they
- 35:59Speaker 1: lost to Inanna Jones and Temple doomm nineteen eight. H
- 36:04Speaker 1: oh yeah, So that was eighty five eighty nine when
- 36:09Speaker 1: Ghostbusters two came out. Holy crap, lots of movies.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Did you know that the whole like most of the
- 36:16Speaker 3: majority of the filming, they were fighting over the name, yes,
- 36:20Speaker 3: because didn't on the rights.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Ghost Busters with a Space was a show in the
- 36:26Speaker 1: seventies and.
- 36:27Speaker 3: They were gonna call it ghost Breakers, and then they
- 36:31Speaker 3: were doing scenes multiple times we were saying ghost Breakers,
- 36:35Speaker 3: ghost Breakers. Wow, that was the same. I feel like
- 36:40Speaker 3: that would change everything. You can't say breaking makes me
- 36:43Speaker 3: for you?
- 36:45Speaker 1: Doesn't. It doesn't hit as good.
- 36:47Speaker 2: And we can't forget the Brian Mars I mean, Kurt Hawkins,
- 36:52Speaker 2: what of what Ghostbusters figure?
- 36:55Speaker 3: Oh wow, now finally that has meaning. Oh man, you
- 37:00Speaker 3: want I still don't have it on display. I think
- 37:03Speaker 3: I was very close to selling it, but I.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Because to me, the Mattel, the jumpsuit is like a
- 37:10Speaker 2: one of one like that is made, and yes it
- 37:12Speaker 2: couldn't be I think corporate Steve fucking made it in
- 37:15Speaker 2: his basement, but he still.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Made presented on a vlog. That's important. Yeah, insane for
- 37:20Speaker 1: you to sell it.
- 37:21Speaker 2: And then I do have.
- 37:23Speaker 3: Fits my head like perfect and that all that stuff,
- 37:27Speaker 3: but my hat.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Has not put my head. I'm looking at it right now.
- 37:31Speaker 2: And then I have a I supposed to have a
- 37:34Speaker 2: Mattel Basic never came out, but I have the prototype
- 37:38Speaker 2: before before build really started fucking met.
- 37:42Speaker 3: It and then you wore mac car I don't want
- 37:43Speaker 3: to go supposed to hear it Bound for Glory.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, and that's a major bendy.
- 37:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:49Speaker 2: I'm also spoiler gonna wear some Ghostbuster gear at GCW
- 37:53Speaker 2: homecoming this year, so a lot of Ghostbuster stuff, new
- 37:58Speaker 2: Ghostbuster gear.
- 38:01Speaker 1: So I will say this though, in defense and Brian's
- 38:05Speaker 1: sort of attack on the film. Ninety five percent on
- 38:07Speaker 1: Rotten Tomatoes for critics, eighty eight percent for human beings.
- 38:12Speaker 2: The critics, I have more than fans.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Yes, holy shit, and I'll read this. Ghostbuster's positive reception
- 38:18Speaker 1: was has lasted well beyond its release, and it is
- 38:21Speaker 1: considered one of the most important comedy films ever made.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Is listed in the twenty thirteen film reference book one
- 38:27Speaker 1: thousand and one Movies You Must See Before You Die,
- 38:29Speaker 1: and on its thirtieth anniversary in twenty fourteen, the Hollywood
- 38:33Speaker 1: Reporters Entertainment Industry voted ranking named it the seventy seventh
- 38:38Speaker 1: best film of all time.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Wow, that's crazy to me.
- 38:43Speaker 2: I mean, I think it should be in the top twenty,
- 38:44Speaker 2: but I'll take it in top one hundred.
- 38:46Speaker 1: I'll take so Steph watched it did not like it
- 38:49Speaker 1: is what I hear?
- 38:50Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, but she's fucking she's Australian.
- 38:54Speaker 1: She's twelve years old and it hasn't watched the movie.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Yeah there's no one's smoking weed in it. She doesn't. Maybe, hey,
- 39:01Speaker 2: maybe I did pop.
- 39:02Speaker 3: For how much? How many cigarettes they spoke?
- 39:04Speaker 2: Yeah? I noticed that Ray smoking a lot of SIGs,
- 39:08Speaker 2: which isn't smart to do down there in that the
- 39:11Speaker 2: storage facility. You know that thing blows up there smoking
- 39:14Speaker 2: SIGs down there on the rag that's smart?
- 39:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, a lot of a lot of that called
- 39:20Speaker 3: me off guard. A lot of SIGs.
- 39:22Speaker 2: What that Those real Ghostbusters, even though they're not Ghostbuster figures,
- 39:27Speaker 2: like you could pretend, you know, it was the same.
- 39:30Speaker 2: You could pretend you really.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Could they were the Ghostbusters.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Yeah when you were a kid, right, there.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Was this Ghostbuster. I haven't a marshmallow man. It's like
- 39:40Speaker 2: a hand puppet, but he so he stuffed and he's
- 39:43Speaker 2: like twelve inches. So I would use that with the
- 39:46Speaker 2: figures because the marshmallow man they made is like the
- 39:49Speaker 2: same size as them. Oh yeah, so this guy's almost
- 39:52Speaker 2: the size of the fucking firehouse, but like as a kid.
- 39:56Speaker 2: If you, Brian, I don't think you. You didn't play this,
- 39:59Speaker 2: you don't need remember, But like technically we're supposed to
- 40:01Speaker 2: do with the firehouse, and this was like a fucking
- 40:04Speaker 2: a couple of toy lines and ship like this. And
- 40:05Speaker 2: I don't understand. I understand, well, my mom never let
- 40:08Speaker 2: me do it, But I don't understand how the toyle.
- 40:10Speaker 2: I thought people were gonna let their kids do it
- 40:12Speaker 2: the top of the fire house, these little fucking like
- 40:15Speaker 2: square openings, and it came with slime, drop slime down
- 40:19Speaker 2: it onto all your fucking figures, your fucking carpet.
- 40:23Speaker 3: One done.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Yeah, you do it once, that's no.
- 40:25Speaker 2: But they would, they would sell them. They sold the slime.
- 40:29Speaker 2: You buy more slime.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Yeah, but I'm saying that sludge. Your mom sets it up,
- 40:33Speaker 1: she puts paper on the ground. She lets you do
- 40:35Speaker 1: it once, you clean up your figures, and you never
- 40:37Speaker 1: do it again.
- 40:37Speaker 2: That's that's like I I don't think I ever was
- 40:40Speaker 2: allowed to do it.
- 40:42Speaker 1: I remember Michael Munior did it when I went over
- 40:44Speaker 1: his house.
- 40:44Speaker 3: He do it.
- 40:46Speaker 1: Yeah, my parents.
- 40:47Speaker 2: They also took away the fucking the batmobile would like
- 40:51Speaker 2: shoot out little missiles. They took those away from me. Oh,
- 40:54Speaker 2: come on, and my robo cop would have like the
- 40:56Speaker 2: snaps where you shoot the gun like you know, with
- 40:58Speaker 2: like real fel.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Oh the cats, the cats, Yes, they took my cat.
- 41:04Speaker 3: It wasn't like in the news though about that RoboCop thing.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Yes, definitely not safe.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Yeah, but man, what my final consensus is, I probably
- 41:16Speaker 3: will never watch that movie again. And I'm glad you
- 41:21Speaker 3: guys enjoy it for sentimental reasons, and I'm sure that's very.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Important, but man, I think it's the I think.
- 41:26Speaker 3: It will ostalgia for it. I just could really do
- 41:28Speaker 3: without it.
- 41:29Speaker 1: I'm wondering. I'd like to ask people out there if
- 41:33Speaker 1: you've never seen it like Brian, and then watched it
- 41:37Speaker 1: like what you thought. I would love to get a
- 41:39Speaker 1: couple more people's opinions.
- 41:40Speaker 3: It's hard to find these people.
- 41:42Speaker 1: It's especially in our group, especially in our group. But
- 41:45Speaker 1: I'm also guys, I would love to hear you your
- 41:49Speaker 1: thoughts on the idea that the film is an acquired
- 41:52Speaker 1: taste and and Brian's honest review.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Let me go back to my main takeaway, Nobel Murray,
- 41:59Speaker 3: that movie's forget about it.
- 42:01Speaker 1: I can't argue with that at all, not even not
- 42:03Speaker 1: even I can't argue. I I a thousand percent agree.
- 42:06Speaker 1: I mean, he makes a movie, but.
- 42:07Speaker 3: He's a like timeless comedy actor, wildly successful. So I
- 42:13Speaker 3: would say you need Dad Ackroyd too. I think you
- 42:15Speaker 3: need I think I think you need them all. I
- 42:18Speaker 3: think it's not the same. It's like, okay, like it's
- 42:23Speaker 3: a bad example, but like you.
- 42:24Speaker 2: Know, Triple H is the leader of the New Age Outlass,
- 42:26Speaker 2: but you need Xbox, you need the fucking the Outlaws.
- 42:30Speaker 3: You mean d X by the way. But what I
- 42:33Speaker 3: say is the leader of the New Age Outlaws.
- 42:36Speaker 1: This might be, but I feel like if you if
- 42:39Speaker 1: you replace Harold Ramis with somebody, I I.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Think, wait, you're crazy, You're fucking crazy.
- 42:46Speaker 3: That's just you're blown.
- 42:48Speaker 2: He's fucking egoumental goggles right now, Broski.
- 42:53Speaker 1: So before we go, though, I do want to talk
- 42:55Speaker 1: about this. A lot of people have mentioned this. Who
- 42:58Speaker 1: are we? I think Brian is one million percent Winston
- 43:04Speaker 1: and I thought of that in the second She was like,
- 43:06Speaker 1: do you believe it GHEs paranormal activity? Whatever, he just goes.
- 43:09Speaker 1: He goes if there's a paycheck. I believe in whatever
- 43:12Speaker 1: you want, Like this is Brian watching the movie. Deal, Yes,
- 43:17Speaker 1: Ed Broski's definitely Bill Murray And I think that I'm
- 43:20Speaker 1: dan Aykroyd And I think Kannik is egone.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Right, Oh and swordswoggles, slider.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Slimer, Yeah, yeah, brutal.
- 43:31Speaker 2: I just think we're we're lucky that we're in I
- 43:34Speaker 2: think we're at this and maybe I'm biased because I
- 43:37Speaker 2: am this age, but that we have because of how
- 43:40Speaker 2: we were born in the eighties, Like movies we just
- 43:43Speaker 2: missed were like on HBO all the time where you
- 43:45Speaker 2: could rent from the video store. But like I feel
- 43:47Speaker 2: like if we were born a couple years earlier, we
- 43:50Speaker 2: would have missed a lot of the cool mid nineties things.
- 43:53Speaker 3: Or you don't that's also true, but I meant like
- 43:57Speaker 3: you're not seeing it enough. Like you guys saw a ghosts.
- 44:01Speaker 3: There's a ton of times in your kid so it
- 44:03Speaker 3: lives on in your like heart and mind, you know
- 44:05Speaker 3: what I mean. If you saw something once and never
- 44:08Speaker 3: again because there's no HBO to fucking right, then it
- 44:12Speaker 3: kind of like doesn't live on.
- 44:13Speaker 2: But like there's so many things like I wish I
- 44:15Speaker 2: would have saw more of, like Back to the Future
- 44:17Speaker 2: or like but I was able to see those things
- 44:19Speaker 2: on like HBO and VHS. Is if I would have
- 44:23Speaker 2: said those in the theater, I don't think I would
- 44:24Speaker 2: have been old enough to watch fucking like a real monsters,
- 44:28Speaker 2: I'd fucking tike a. Look, it's just like the ship
- 44:30Speaker 2: like that that I also cherish like that, like the
- 44:32Speaker 2: Snick and stuff like that. I think if you were
- 44:34Speaker 2: born for like you know, the originally day Joes, you
- 44:38Speaker 2: ain't watching Snick. You don't have memories of our frae
- 44:40Speaker 2: of the dark, you know.
- 44:41Speaker 1: So it's like I think, but there was stuff in
- 44:43Speaker 1: the eighties that you missed that that that you would
- 44:45Speaker 1: have cherished instead, like gummy bears or whatever.
- 44:47Speaker 2: The fuck. But I feel like I got gumming bears.
- 44:51Speaker 2: I got gummy bears.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Brot okay, well gummy bears.
- 44:56Speaker 3: I got gummy bears. All right.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Well there's I mean, there's so much to talk about. Uh,
- 45:03Speaker 1: Ghostbusters is.
- 45:04Speaker 3: Just more bum that I can't tell people I've never
- 45:06Speaker 3: seen this fucking movie anymore. Well you've never seen Ghostbusters
- 45:09Speaker 3: two or or After Life, So I hear you guys
- 45:13Speaker 3: got me sort of contemplating After Life just because then
- 45:17Speaker 3: I can at least understand a lot more of it.
- 45:19Speaker 2: But I have a proposal for next month.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Oh boy, Okay, I was I was gonna bring up
- 45:24Speaker 1: next month.
- 45:25Speaker 2: Do I have a proposal? Okay, because I wanted to
- 45:29Speaker 2: always involve toys somehow, someway. Yeah, I agree, hear me
- 45:33Speaker 2: out here, high hopes. This movie massive flop that has
- 45:39Speaker 2: a toy line water World, now, Dick Tracy.
- 45:45Speaker 3: Man, I either saw that in the theater or like
- 45:49Speaker 3: a handful of Times of the Year came out like
- 45:51Speaker 3: on VHS and I've never seen it again. I would
- 45:53Speaker 3: be like it would be literally like seeing it.
- 45:56Speaker 1: I haven't seen it in years too. I think I
- 45:58Speaker 1: would be willing to do that.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I saw it in the theater and
- 46:01Speaker 2: had the toys.
- 46:02Speaker 3: I definitely had the toys and the video game.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Like that was something that like if you're a fan
- 46:07Speaker 2: of like Disney, like they were supposed they were. They
- 46:10Speaker 2: thought this was gonna be it, Like they thought this
- 46:12Speaker 2: was going to be their Batman. They were planning in
- 46:14Speaker 2: rides for it all this they thought there was gonna
- 46:16Speaker 2: be the like their Batman eighty nine.
- 46:18Speaker 3: Toys are so unique too, there's not really like other things.
- 46:21Speaker 3: They're like heman ish but yeah, this this.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Movie is very interesting, especially to me because I do
- 46:29Speaker 1: remember being very disappointed with it, and I remember being
- 46:32Speaker 1: very engrossed and uh interested in in all the characters.
- 46:37Speaker 1: And then you watch the movie and the characters get bullshit.
- 46:39Speaker 1: They get nothing right, like like who's Flathead? I don't
- 46:42Speaker 1: fucking know because he was barely in the movie, you know,
- 46:45Speaker 1: really right, I just remember being very disappointed with it.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Well, if this ends up where Broski spends a ton
- 46:52Speaker 3: of money in the Blank, I'm all for it.
- 46:53Speaker 2: I really thinking. Yes, I think I finally have to
- 46:57Speaker 2: all these years want to get the blank, and I
- 46:59Speaker 2: want to talk about the histor the blank.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Let's do it.
- 47:02Speaker 1: I think, Yeah, I think that's great. But my other question, Brian,
- 47:04Speaker 1: you saw Terminators, right, You've seen them?
- 47:06Speaker 2: Wanted to Like when I was a kid, I didn't, doesn't.
- 47:10Speaker 2: I wasn't a big arnold guy like Brosky sod they
- 47:12Speaker 2: kind of but I didn't see the I didn't see
- 47:15Speaker 2: them as a kid like I would do that one
