Transcript
- 0:16Speaker 1: Hey, hey, Emily.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Here you are listening to an episode of Five Minute
- 0:21Speaker 2: Friday Unhurdle.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Oh Man, this week, you know what I want to
- 0:24Speaker 1: talk about. I want to talk about.
- 0:25Speaker 2: A word that gets thrown around a lot, especially in
- 0:29Speaker 2: the wellness world, and that word is alignment. The thing
- 0:36Speaker 2: about alignment is that we rarely define what it actually
- 0:39Speaker 2: looks like in practice. But if I'm being completely honest
- 0:42Speaker 2: with all of you, I have spent so much time
- 0:47Speaker 2: over the last few years learning about alignment because at
- 0:51Speaker 2: many times I felt like I was out of it.
- 0:56Speaker 1: You know that feeling. I am so sure.
- 0:58Speaker 2: It's like when you're pushing a boulder up a hill,
- 1:03Speaker 2: You're forcing a routine, you're forcing a project, you're forcing
- 1:06Speaker 2: a mindset, and it just feels heavy.
- 1:07Speaker 1: It doesn't feel natural for me.
- 1:10Speaker 2: That has in the past left me feeling so deeply drained,
- 1:15Speaker 2: even when it looks like, maybe aesthetically on the socials
- 1:19Speaker 2: that I'm doing everything quote unquote right. But right now
- 1:25Speaker 2: I'm in a season where it feels like everything is clicking.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It feels like I am in alignment. And that's exactly
- 1:31Speaker 2: why I want to talk about it today. What does
- 1:34Speaker 2: it look like it looks like. I'm looking at my
- 1:37Speaker 2: calendar and I have guests booked for the show through
- 1:39Speaker 2: the end of the summer. I am working out in
- 1:42Speaker 2: the morning, and I feel strong and capable in my body.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I feel this like genuine, grounded ability to focus and
- 1:50Speaker 2: do work in a way that I candidly, over the
- 1:54Speaker 2: last couple.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Of years, have really struggled with.
- 1:57Speaker 2: And yeah, I'm busy, I'm incredibly busy right now, But
- 2:01Speaker 2: for the first time in a long time, that busyness
- 2:05Speaker 2: it's it's exciting, it's not making me feel anxious. So
- 2:13Speaker 2: all of this to say is that I am sitting
- 2:16Speaker 2: here remembering what it actually feels like to be in alignment,
- 2:19Speaker 2: and I know that it is not this magical state
- 2:23Speaker 2: where life is perfect and it doesn't just happen. It's
- 2:26Speaker 2: a season when your daily reality matches your internal vision.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Right now, my daily reality, the things that feel good
- 2:37Speaker 2: in my life, they match the vision that I have
- 2:41Speaker 2: for myself. Now, I know you are wondering, what, how
- 2:45Speaker 2: how do you find the flow? So at times when
- 2:50Speaker 2: I felt specifically out of alignment, Old Emily would be
- 2:53Speaker 2: sitting here right now waiting for the other shoe to drop.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Old Emily would look at everything right now and think, okay,
- 2:59Speaker 2: when the chaos start?
- 3:00Speaker 1: When does it get messed up? We and I will
- 3:04Speaker 1: wee us here.
- 3:05Speaker 2: We condition ourselves so much so to brace for the
- 3:10Speaker 2: impact when life gets good, and lately I have stopped
- 3:14Speaker 2: asking myself that question hard stop Instead. Right now, the
- 3:19Speaker 2: question that I am asking is what if it all
- 3:22Speaker 2: is better than I hoped?
- 3:24Speaker 1: What if it is even better than I can imagine?
- 3:28Speaker 1: And it's not.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Being woo woo, it's just opening the door for that possibility.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Why is it that so often we automatically assume that
- 3:39Speaker 2: the negative outcome is the most realistic one. Why is
- 3:43Speaker 2: it that we give so much power me I'm talking
- 3:46Speaker 2: to myself here about what ifs and the drains instead
- 3:52Speaker 2: of the what ifs that expand us. Choosing to look
- 3:57Speaker 2: at the positive doesn't make you someone that is embracing
- 4:01Speaker 2: toxic positivity. It's rather a conscious decision to choose the
- 4:05Speaker 2: exact energy you want to receive. Choosing to look at
- 4:08Speaker 2: the positives is a conscious decision on the type of
- 4:13Speaker 2: energy you want to receive. And when I fully began
- 4:16Speaker 2: to understand that, it made such a difference. When you
- 4:21Speaker 2: stop waiting for things to go wrong, you finally clear
- 4:25Speaker 2: the space for things to go incredibly and beautifully right.
- 4:28Speaker 2: And that is what alignment is. I will say this
- 4:32Speaker 2: because I have been on the opposite side of this coin.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Like I said, if you are in a heavy season,
- 4:38Speaker 2: or maybe you're in a good season, but you're too
- 4:40Speaker 2: terrified to enjoy it because you're waiting for the other
- 4:42Speaker 2: shoe to drop. I want to leave you with a
- 4:46Speaker 2: very important question to take into the weekend. What if
- 4:50Speaker 2: it all goes better than you'd hoped? Not necessarily my
- 4:54Speaker 2: standard listener prompt for you this week, but what if
- 4:57Speaker 2: it all goes better than you'd hoped? Maybe now is
- 5:00Speaker 2: the opportunity for you to give yourself permission to receive
- 5:02Speaker 2: the good stuff. You didn't come this far to only
- 5:05Speaker 2: come this far. I say it all the time. It
- 5:08Speaker 2: is my mantra when I am working hard at something,
- 5:11Speaker 2: and right now I am working hard on so many things,
- 5:15Speaker 2: and so I share it with you. Before I get
- 5:19Speaker 2: to this week's listener question, I do want to give
- 5:21Speaker 2: a plug. I'm going to throw it in the show notes.
- 5:23Speaker 2: My good friend coach Bennett, Nike Global running Head Coach,
- 5:28Speaker 2: had me on his podcast this week and we had
- 5:30Speaker 2: a blast.
- 5:31Speaker 1: So tap on over to the show notes.
- 5:33Speaker 2: The link to our conversation that episode, celebrating the beginning
- 5:38Speaker 2: of the training for their Afterdark series, is live now
- 5:43Speaker 2: and now a listener question. Hi Emily, I see that
- 5:47Speaker 2: you are writing a list on things that you want
- 5:49Speaker 2: to do this July in New York City. I'm always
- 5:52Speaker 2: looking for fun, new ideas things to do to get
- 5:55Speaker 2: outside and would love to hear what is on your
- 5:58Speaker 2: New York Summer vision board. Thanks so much, Sydney. Oh, Sydney,
- 6:02Speaker 2: I'm still working on this. My gosh, My favorite things
- 6:06Speaker 2: to do in New York City in the summer are
- 6:08Speaker 2: so simple. It's like take the subway to Rockway Beach
- 6:13Speaker 2: and go to Rippers. It is sit outside on the
- 6:17Speaker 2: West Side Highway and read for hours in suntan. It
- 6:21Speaker 2: is go to the pool at Dumbo House and stay up.
- 6:25Speaker 2: We'll pass my bedtime and find a rooftop to dance
- 6:28Speaker 2: on somewhere. Summer in the city also means finding an
- 6:33Speaker 2: outdoor movie to watch at a park. There are so
- 6:35Speaker 2: many different parks that offer free movies, from Prospect to
- 6:40Speaker 2: Fort Green to Brian Park.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I've seen movies at all of these, and then.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Of course I'll be logging lots of miles leading up
- 6:48Speaker 2: to Sydney Marathon at the end of August, so I
- 6:51Speaker 2: will also be hunting for good pastries as I always am,
- 6:56Speaker 2: refreshing smoothies, things like this.
- 6:59Speaker 1: But this is only the beginning of my brainstorming.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I am in the thick of it right now and
- 7:06Speaker 2: I will report back. So whether it's on this or
- 7:09Speaker 2: if you have another question, feel free to shoot me
- 7:12Speaker 2: a DM or an email. I'm over at Emily Body
- 7:15Speaker 2: at Hurdle Podcasts and over email at Hello at hurdle
- 7:19Speaker 2: dot us. Another hurdle conquered. Catch you guys next time.
