- 0:25SPEAKER_04: How are you guys doing?
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Hi, friends.
- 0:28SPEAKER_04: Hey, I'm good.
- 0:29SPEAKER_04: Good, good.
- 0:29SPEAKER_04: Excellent.
- 0:30SPEAKER_04: And of course, joining me as always, the co-captain of the ship, Clayton Gable.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Hi, Travis.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: How are you?
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: I'm good.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: I'm good.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: I'm so glad that two of our friends could be here for this special two-year anniversary episode.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, like uh we mentioned before the show, we did put this out in a very last minute, very OGM fashion that hey, we'd like to have our friends on the pod to celebrate.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Um, if you're willing to get up early on short notice, and these two are the realest, they're here.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: So thanks for showing up.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: We'll see if we can mend our bridges with our other friends that that weren't willing to accommodate such a abrupt scheduling request.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: But you know, we're we're happy with the crew we got.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say Vic is here in spirit, gamesy Mosspod uh Vic.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Uh I am acting as Pox proxy for him today.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: We he couldn't make it in person, but I will be his mouthpiece.
- 1:28SPEAKER_04: Excellent.
- 1:30SPEAKER_04: And if you are sitting at home and you are wondering what the heck, I listen to OGN every single week.
- 1:36SPEAKER_04: Why wasn't I invited?
- 1:37SPEAKER_04: Well, guess what?
- 1:38SPEAKER_04: We have a Discord.
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: I don't we don't do enough to push the Discord on this podcast.
- 1:43SPEAKER_04: So if you go into the show notes, uh there is a link to the Discord if you would like to join.
- 1:48SPEAKER_04: We are constantly setting up board game arena battles.
- 1:51SPEAKER_04: We talk about the podcast, we talk about the happenings in board gaming.
- 1:56SPEAKER_04: So you can join the discord if you are listening to this.
- 1:59SPEAKER_04: Um, but first, you should probably like and subscribe on Instagram and YouTube.
- 2:04SPEAKER_04: Um that way you can be informed and know when these things are happening.
- 2:09SPEAKER_04: So that way you maybe next year you could be in one of these seats.
- 2:13SPEAKER_04: Maybe you'll take Clay's seat.
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: Who knows?
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: I hope so.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I could only be so lucky.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, it was only it was a matter of time.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Jared's gone, so somebody's gotta fill the seat, but that's right, that's right.
- 2:30SPEAKER_04: This is this has all just been one big audition.
- 2:33SPEAKER_04: So let's get on with our two-year celebration.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: We are going to debrief games that we've been playing this week to celebrate our two-year anniversary.
- 2:40SPEAKER_04: Uh, then we are going to talk about our top five episodes of the Operation Game Night Podcast.
- 2:46SPEAKER_04: I almost said games emos.
- 2:51SPEAKER_04: But then we are then we are going to go over the fence and talk about what we've been doing outside of board gaming.
- 3:00SPEAKER_04: So let's kick it over to our friends.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: Friends, what games have you been playing this week?
- 3:05SPEAKER_04: Amanda, you have a you have something to show us.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: Why don't you go first?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: So uh the first time we ever played Pyradice was in Vegas.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Um, so I'm I'm thinking it was a Vegas release, so I guess it is still kind of the hotness.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, but it is a two-player only um little dice uh game.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: So you're gonna set up um of the quarry here, and you're just gonna roll all the dice and put them in this little middle quarry.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Um everybody's gonna have their own player board, and then on the side, there's goals that you're working towards.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: So, like on this bottom, uh, all the dice have to be the same number.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: This one, all the dice have to be greater than four.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: So each, and if you get the the goal for each row, you score five points.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And then there's some objective cards um with little like colored discs that you place on them.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: So this one would be like um the brown disc.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know what that one is, but so like this one is specific to the brown dice, and then this one is gonna be the tan dice, whatever they are, whatever these specific goals are.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: And it is a two-player only, uh, but you can purchase like a second copy to be able to play up to four.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: So it plays in about a half an hour, it was super fun.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: So we we bought it under the guise that it was like a dice game, but you really only roll the dice once, and then you just place them all in the quarry, and you have to take them as the numbers lie, so but there are also some um blue little token things on this side, and then when you place a die in that row, you can activate that power that lets you mitigate some of the dice numbers.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, we played that last night.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: We've been playing a lot of um Gen Con, you know, things that we picked up.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: I actually ran the numbers officially, um, as far as our collection is concerned.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: And uh we uh not including expansions, have 562 games in the collection, and 258 are on play.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: Ooh, holy smokes.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Hey, that's man.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: You do you though.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: You do you.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: That's it's bad.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Um, so we're working on it.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: We've played, I think we played four new to us games this week.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: So pure dice and also six sided seas, which was a lot of fun.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: That's another two-player.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: That one was a dice game.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: And um, probably the favorite one that we've played uh since I picked up from Gen Con was Tug of Roar.
- 5:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: That one was super cool.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Uh, it's from Inside Up Games, and it's just uh two-player only uh little lane battler where you've got your um barbarians and your beards and your clerics, and um, you're just going down the line.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: So you're recruiting cards, um, they have numbers on them, and also some have some like flavor text abilities, and you're placing them in a row, in rows, and then you go down the line and do the little battle.
- 6:21SPEAKER_04: With of course the tug of war mechanic on the right-hand side where you're like managing that track that goes back and forth, yeah, trying to push one over the edge.
- 6:31SPEAKER_04: Yes, that one's excellent.
- 6:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that was cool.
- 6:34unknown: Cool.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Hey, Amanda, there's no shame here.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I am a collector as well, so I support you.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: And I saw your Gen Con haul.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: I I saw the the post you had on Instagram, and I was like, wow, yeah, there was a lot of green envy, jealousy bubbling up inside of me when I saw that, when I saw that haul.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: So let me tell you, and and I talked about this.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: I went live on Instagram the other night, and I talked about my haul in my collection.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: And I am I'm not above buying pre-loved, pre-owned, pre-used games.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: And I think anybody who is in the the hobby takes care of their games, and most of the time they are in really good condition, and probably like a lot of us, where you play it once or twice, and then you know, it's time to move on.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: So I have found so many great deals through the convention um virtual flea markets, you know, where you can pick up games that are still new and shrink.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Like I purchased Rock Hard, I think for$25, new and shrink, you know, brand new, it's$50.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: So like I curate my collection, procure for my collection very inex as inexpensive as possible.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Now, should there be an insurance claim that I would have to replace everything, that would be another story.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: Because the value versus what I've paid is definitely um jarring.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: So if you're looking to create a large curated collection, don't sleep on used games.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: That's all I'm saying.
- 8:18SPEAKER_04: And I love I love a I love a friendly local game store that has a used game section.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
- 8:23SPEAKER_04: That's one of my favorites.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Me too.
- 8:26SPEAKER_04: Uh, in the event of a fire, please don't point your insurance adjuster to this episode because uh we'll we'll just let them know that it's it's a higher value than uh whatever you're telling me.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: But it's a lot less than what mailman Gary knows.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: Like I tell him that I'm I gotta it's they're basically just giving this away, right?
- 8:50SPEAKER_04: All right, let's kick it over to Mike.
- 8:52SPEAKER_04: Mike, what games have you been playing this week?
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: Uh well, uh not many, um, but I have some cool ones, and I know Amanda and I have talked about one of them, uh, and that's Night at the Zoo.
- 9:07SPEAKER_03: So I don't know if you guys have heard or seen this, but this is from the uh Tom, I can never pronounce him, Holleck.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: He's the guy that did SETI.
- 9:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: Um, and it is a really cool like puzzle.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: More that I don't I don't I don't even want to call it a game, but it's a puzzle about getting different animals back into their enclosures in the zoo.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: But each creature moves a certain way through uh the different terrains and stuff.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: It is very cool, very unique.
- 9:40SPEAKER_03: Um, we played it twice in the same day because it took Riley a second to be like, oh, this is how this moves, and like uh then it was like a competitive thing to get like the sloths back there because they score really well, but they can only move one place and then they fall asleep.
- 9:53SPEAKER_03: Um but that was a really cool one, plus the box glows in the dark, which is kind of creepy uh when you have at the end of the like I live in a 40-foot trailer, and at the end, all you see is all these eyes staring at you, uh, because I put it up on a shelf and then forgot about it.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: Um, but that one was really good.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: But the one I probably think I like the most is Kano or Canoe, um, which was something I didn't even know existed until I was watching uh Jamie Stagmier talk about it.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: And I hate I I say this a lot with games, but every every year there's gonna be something that's gonna probably outdo a different game, kind of like uh Pirates of the High T's um clay.
- 10:38SPEAKER_03: Um but uh this I think is gonna for me it's gonna replace Harmonies.
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: Um, it's got a really cool production with uh it has a fabric board, but it's not really used and it's flat, so clay wouldn't you know absolutely hate this.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: I immediately thought of clay about the clay uh the fabric board.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: But you're like putting these ink plot uh pots down that are actually like clay pots, um, and in a pattern so that you can put out artwork uh on it, but that one's really really cool, like and it's constantly uh refeeding through gravity.
- 11:16SPEAKER_03: But that one was a lot of fun.
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: Um that may have been my favorite.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: Um, and then the only other thing that I've been playing, and we've even taught people at work, is Wingspan Pocket.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: Um this is fantastic.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: You got yours up there, Clay.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: Have you bought yours yet?
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: All right, I I want to.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: I uh I saw my local game store post that they just got in stock, so yeah, thinking I might make a trip today.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it it's worth it.
- 11:45SPEAKER_03: It's uh especially because like uh I'm sure Amanda talked to Elizabeth Hargrove uh grave, but uh it's how Wingspan was originally supposed to be, just one line of birds, uh not not multiple.
- 11:58SPEAKER_03: So it's kind of cool to see it come full circle to that.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: Um, but everyone I've taught it to loves it, and it's a great solo too.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: Um so I I enjoyed playing the solo multiple times.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, that that's been great.
- 12:12SPEAKER_03: And then uh as far as the collection, I have about 304 Amanda, uh, and about 30 games unplayed right now, but I also have about 25 games being delivered soon.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: Uh that so I'll be up there with you pretty soon here.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: So I thought you were I thought you were at capacity, like I thought you were maxed out.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: Correct, and uh that hasn't stopped me once.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: Uh I I literally have like a cabinet of games down here, like it's a TV stand full of games, yeah, and I just keep pulling stuff out and reorganizing it, playing Jenga or uh Tetris with it all.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, uh it hasn't stopped me once.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I keep talking to uh uh moments playing together, uh Keisha about it, and I was like, every day I'm like, hey, I'm back to zero on my uh time not buying games, like the how many days without an accident, and she was like, That was four hours ago, and I was like, I was like, I know almost made it.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: I want to know what 25 are coming.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, the one I'm really excited for is Railway Railway Boom.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Yes, we ordered that too because it was sold out at Gen Con before I could make it over there, but yeah, that one's coming.
- 13:33SPEAKER_03: I really want to get sponsored by Tanookie Games in Austin, Texas.
- 13:36SPEAKER_03: But that's who we bought ours from to get stuff through.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, so my sister lives in Austin and I'm dying to go visit her.
- 13:49SPEAKER_03: Nice, nice.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: But yeah, that's about it for us.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: Not many games played this week with the new job.
- 13:57SPEAKER_03: So excellent.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: Well, stay busy and those are good ones.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: You got me excited about night at the zoo.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: I was skeptical when I saw you posting about it because you you seem to like my just about everything.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: So I have to that's fair.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: I have to weigh your I have to weigh your opinions and dig a little deeper when I see that you like something because I'm like, man, Mike gets down with just about everything, man.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: He's over here playing speakeasy, but he goes Kenizia with me too.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, it's great.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: I get second night at the zoo.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: It was it was interesting.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Um there was some like ambiguity to the rules where we kind of were like, so does this mean it moves in or not?
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: And it's just kind of like you have to like house rule how far it can go.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you found that the same, Mike, where you're just like, Am I in the zoo?
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Am I outside of the zoo?
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: Um, I I not that part, but I think the initial movement thing was a little open-ended for sure.
- 14:54SPEAKER_03: Like, but yeah, I it but once you get going, I think it's fine.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Just don't play with the butterfly.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna tell you, that one was like the biggest waste of because each animal moves in a specific pattern, so it gains you know points, like Mike said, based on difficulty.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Well, the butterfly has to collect pollen, and you can only do it in a certain way.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: Um, you have to discard a card to move everything on that terrain color.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: And I found we didn't do that like at all, and you have to collect at least two pollen to even score one point.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: So it was like this butterfly is like useless.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: So don't play with the butterfly.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: Hot take right there.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: So excellent, but otherwise, night at the zoo was good.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I want to give I want to give that a try.
- 15:42SPEAKER_04: That sounds awesome.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: I'm interested.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: I'm interested.
- 15:45SPEAKER_04: Clayton, let's hear what you've been playing.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Hold on, real quick.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: I kind of want to, I'm I'm double well, I'll just ask her because she's sitting right here, because I thought I saw, you know, because Travis and I share a messaging uh responsibility on Instagram, but I glanced it.
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: Did you go to a Amanda, an operation tabletop event this weekend, or was that we were supposed to go yesterday.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: Um it was the inaugural um Pensacola Corey Station operation tabletop.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: We just didn't make it.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, it was supposed to be yesterday.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Gary had to work.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: It's been like a hundred heat advisory and poor guys in the mail truck all day.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: And we just I didn't know if I'd be able to get on base without a pass.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: So we're just like, we're just gonna skip it tonight.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: But we really, we really wanted to go last night.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: We just didn't make it.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Well, I wanted to debrief on that, but yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Uh but I can tell you about the one we did go to.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: Um, and we are planning on they're having a big game day in September, too.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: So we can always talk about that after that one happens.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, great.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Wait, you're you're on the hook for it, Amanda.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: And uh Ember Heart, I promise.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: All right, yes.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: That was that was the strings attached.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: That was the deal.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: I didn't just send that to you for nothing.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: You what'd you say, Mike?
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, I love Ember Heart.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: Don't love Ember.
- 17:13SPEAKER_03: What's that?
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: You play it at two, yeah.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, because I know I remember we pulled it out in Vegas, and then we're like there was like a special two-player variant where you had to like move a third player, and we're just like it's not that bad.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: Okay, it's it's it's literally really simple movement, yeah.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay, all right, I'll get it to the table clay.
- 17:36SPEAKER_03: Variants suck.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: I I do agree on that though.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm not really like one to wanna.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: I just I really do like solo games that do sometimes have an automa, but for some reason that one we just weren't feeling it.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: I think it was it was towards the end of the night, I think, in Vegas, where we're like, uh, maybe not.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: What about you, Travis?
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: What have you been playing?
- 18:01SPEAKER_04: Well, uh, I thought Clay was like gonna debrief something and then he like side pitched.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, oh yeah, I know.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: I am always I'm always trying to you know steer the spotlight away to somebody else because this podcasting game is hard, man.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: It's hard.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: But I will I am excited because I played Gold Country by Reiner Kenizia.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: Excellent.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: This just came out from Bytewing Games.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: I know Mike's waiting on his copy.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Did it come yet?
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, it comes Tuesday.
- 18:30SPEAKER_03: It got delayed in Dallas.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: So this was uh, as Bytewing does, they find an old Kenizia game that didn't get a ton of love, probably because of poor publishing practices.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: And they remake it and make it pretty and tweak some of the rules.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: And so this was called Spectaculum back in the day or something.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: Spectacular, I don't know what it was.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: You'll never play it because now gold country exists, and gold country is awesome.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: I'm burying not burying the lead here.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Basically, in gold country, it's like a stock tile placement game.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Um, you have these four uh mining companies that are set up on opposite corners of a board, and then you have this big open tile placement area that everybody's contributing to.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: And throughout this area, it's like where your companies are mining for gold, and there's you know, tiles you can see like they contribute to the value of the stock.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: So every company starts with a value of five for their stock, and everybody starts with one stock in each of the companies.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: So on your turn, you get these claim tokens randomly from a bag, and they will belong to one of the four companies.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: So I might start with two white claim tokens and a blue behind my behind my screen at the start of my turn.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: I have to place all of those claim tokens out on the board on my turn.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: So if I'm placing a white token, I have to place it adjacent to the white base camp or adjacent to another white token on the board.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: And it's kind of up to me where I want to meander that line of um white claim sites based on what I perceive to be the value of white at the time.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: And before or after I place these claim tokens, I can choose to buy or sell up to two stock.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: So, you know, before I take my before I buy stock, I might really decrease the value of white by placing it on two sites that were were bad, like negative three to the value, negative one to the value.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: And then maybe I'll buy up a couple whites because I can see in the vicinity around the white area, now there's a bunch of things that are going to increase the value.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: So later on, those white stocks are gonna be worth more.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: So that's basically it.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Every turn you just have three random claim tokens behind your thing.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: You get to determine where they go out there.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, you're kind of reading the board and seeing you know what what the value is in the area of these different stocks and you know when you want to buy, when you want to sell.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: And at the end of the at the end of the game, you get to sell all the stock that you had left over for whatever the value is, and whoever has the most money wins.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: There are some um features that make it a little more interesting, like there's these cards that you can pay$3 to activate that will you know either let you place another claim site of like it.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: There's just an orange campsite thing that you can say, all right, maybe I want to, I really want to boost the value of orange.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: I want to make sure that the next person that gets to play orange doesn't you know steer the caravan over into this negative area.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna you know grab this orange one.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: I'll pay three right now so I can ensure that orange gets this plus three to their value or plus five.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Um, there's also these gold nugget sites that you can hit where everybody that has stock in the company that hits the gold nuggets gets.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: It's two coins per stock they have in that.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: So it's like a dividend almost when you um put a campsite on that.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: And then the conversely, there's disasters you can steer companies into.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: So um it's got like a little broken pickaxe thing.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: So something bad happened to the company.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: So everybody that has stock in that company has to pay two dollars for each stock you have to fix whatever the disaster was.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: So it can be kind of mean.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: You know, I'm sitting there, uh we really we really did Mary dirty, uh, me and the guy we were playing with the other night.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Neither of us had any white stock, and Mary had a lot, and we just kept drawing white tiles from the bag.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: So we kept steering white into these disasters, and Mary kept having to pay for it.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: And it didn't hurt us because hey, we we don't we're not invested in white, who cares?
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: Um, so it's a really interactive, really interesting kind of stock manipulation game.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: I think this could be up there in my Kenizia list if I keep if I keep uh playing it some more, because you know, he there's tons of these tile placement games, but I just really think the the stock manipulation aspect of it adds something new and different to his like normal you know genre of just placing tiles and maneuvering.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: So I I dig this one big time, and it didn't hurt to have the metal coins and the and the tins to put things into.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Of course you got those.
- 23:29SPEAKER_04: Yep, of course I did.
- 23:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think my copy's coming this week, sometime.
- 23:35SPEAKER_04: I can't wait.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: It's so good, it's so good.
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: As you would expect from Kenitsian Bytewing, it rarely misses, except for Cascadero.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: I don't know why Cascadero.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Cascadero has just I hated that.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know what it was, but that's the only miss.
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: Do you think if they re-themed Cascadero under something else, you'd be into it, or is it just the theme?
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: I don't it the yeah, the theme was not their best work.
- 24:04SPEAKER_04: And I think the scoring is just obtuse.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: Yes, it was the scoring, it's like the second time you get to a spot.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: It's just weird.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: I I didn't it wasn't it wasn't intuitive, and I just didn't love it.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: I was like, I never I never actually played it when I read the rules, and then you badmouthed it to hell for me, and I I called it immediately.
- 24:26SPEAKER_03: If the Kenith fan doesn't like it, then I'm probably not gonna be into it.
- 24:31SPEAKER_04: Cascadito is a little better because it's much lighter, goes much faster, it's a roll and right.
- 24:37SPEAKER_04: Um but man, yeah, the uh it's still the it's still a scoring issue where you're like, well, I've crossed this line and I've circled this camp and I've like done this thing.
- 24:49SPEAKER_04: Does that do I score yet?
- 24:51SPEAKER_04: Do I score previously?
- 24:53SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, yeah, it's it's still a little messy, but at least it takes up less space on the shelf.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, country was not even on my radar, but things really, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: It should be, it should be, it's really good.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: I know it's just I love rebirth, and I guess this just like I don't know, just gave me some kind of like rebirth with stock vibes.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, that's what um your your decisions are simple and you're just you know all placing things on a shared board.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: I I uh I love the interactivity, it's great.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: It's is it Clay?
- 25:33SPEAKER_04: Is it safe to say that this is like uh rebirth and acquire had a baby?
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: I think you could I think you could say that.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's an ugly baby, but uh Bitewing made it pretty.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: So it's uh it's a winner, Travis.
- 25:52SPEAKER_04: Well, let me tell you about a baby that I played, and everybody, I need you to to lean in with your ears here if you are listening to the podcast, because I played Star Trek Captain's Chair, and it is like Marvel Champions and Star Wars the deck building game had a baby.
- 26:14SPEAKER_04: Whoa, it is cool, man.
- 26:16SPEAKER_04: I am digging it.
- 26:17SPEAKER_04: And if you would have told me that this game was made by Fantasy Flight, I would not have batted an eye, but it is kind of in the same vein as Fantasy Flight, in that there are a lot of proper nouns and adjectives surrounding the cards that you have to kind of navigate.
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: Um, there are a lot of different verbs that are highlighted in the rule book that you have to navigate, which I know makes Klay's eyes glaze over as he reads through the rule book, and he's like, What do you mean I have to beam a card versus scan a card versus recruit a card?
- 26:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I trust me, I get it.
- 26:51SPEAKER_04: It's a bit obtuse in in some of those rules, but they each have meaning.
- 26:57SPEAKER_04: It I say it's like Marvel Champions, and that it has a lot of those rules, and it is a little rule heavy for a deck building game, but I say that it is Star Wars deck building game because you are playing as a specific Star Trek captain from the you know Star Trek lore out there.
- 27:16SPEAKER_04: I think there's maybe between the two boxes and the boldly go expansion, there's probably 15 different captains you can play as, and they all have unique decks with unique crews and unique ships.
- 27:30SPEAKER_04: Um and that it's kind of like the Star Wars deck building game in that there's a neutral row of locations that you are trying to send crews out to and ships out to to kind of earn those locations and they become yours and you earn their benefits.
- 27:48SPEAKER_04: There's also a like neutral store row that gets refilled as people purchase from them, and the time of the of the game is kept through what's called star date cards, right?
- 28:02SPEAKER_04: All the captains keep their captains' logs and their star dates, and these star dates have like special events on them, and those have a certain number of glory tokens on them that get allocated to the shop row.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: And at as I buy those cards off the shop row, I can keep those glory tokens, which counts towards end game scoring.
- 28:23SPEAKER_04: I think it's cool.
- 28:24SPEAKER_04: I think it's I'm not gonna get through all the rules here, but there's lots of thematic stuff.
- 28:29SPEAKER_04: Like I can beam a card onto a ship.
- 28:33SPEAKER_04: So if I see one in the row and I can beam it on, I can take that card and tuck it directly under a ship and earn its benefits for that ship that might be out on a specific planet.
- 28:43SPEAKER_04: I can promote characters um within my deck to be my like first mate for my ship.
- 28:49SPEAKER_04: Um, I can carry cargo, I can go explore, and then you have an incident deck that is like the bad stuff that can happen.
- 28:57SPEAKER_04: And I can uh if I can draw those, I can play them against my opponent and give them something to deal with that can clog up their deck so that they are not exploring those locations like I want to.
- 29:09SPEAKER_04: So it's a big uh race to earn glory points by exploring and diplomacy.
- 29:16SPEAKER_04: Um, you are upgrading your your captain as you play through the game through military, what's it military technology and diplomacy?
- 29:25SPEAKER_04: So you earn these permanent benefits for your captain.
- 29:28SPEAKER_04: Um man, there's so much like theme just dripping out of this, and I I don't even have an appreciation, not as much as most, for the Star Trek lore, but they packed a whole bunch of it into this game.
- 29:42SPEAKER_04: The reason that this is earning so much clout right now amongst solo gamers is because it has a deep system that you can spend a lot of time in and learn to master.
- 29:55SPEAKER_04: Uh, there are cards that create synergies, like there's a reason that uh Marvel Champions spends so long at the top of the, you know, one of the top games on BGA, BGG all the time.
- 30:06SPEAKER_04: And this is kind of like right in that same vein.
- 30:09SPEAKER_04: It's a deep system, you could spend a lot of time in it.
- 30:12SPEAKER_04: And the solo mode, they have a campaign that uh you can permanently upgrade your captain as they rise through the ranks of Starfleet.
- 30:20SPEAKER_04: And so it has a five-chapter campaign that you can play.
- 30:25SPEAKER_04: Um, you either play five chapters or up to ten games, and so depending on how many you win or lose out of those ten games, you kind of progress to the next scenario.
- 30:37SPEAKER_04: And um they can they have a bunch of different rules that you could add in.
- 30:41SPEAKER_04: Like let's say I'm mastering the base level campaign, I can add in specific uh rules for specific scenarios, they have recommended captains to play against for each of the scenarios, or I can pick a random one.
- 30:54SPEAKER_04: Like there's so much customization that you can do here.
- 30:58SPEAKER_04: It's one of those games that's going to earn its foothold amongst solar solo gamers and stick around for a long time.
- 31:05SPEAKER_04: If they continue to add more expansions and allow people to customize their decks more and more as they go along with this game, it's going to live forever.
- 31:15SPEAKER_04: This game is gonna be awesome.
- 31:16SPEAKER_04: Um, not that it's not awesome now.
- 31:18SPEAKER_04: I really enjoyed what I have played of it, but I did not make it through my 10 game campaign.
- 31:23SPEAKER_04: So um, man, I I cannot wait to get back to this one.
- 31:27SPEAKER_04: I'm so excited.
- 31:29SPEAKER_04: Two questions, Amanda.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: So you said the there's uh like a five campaign, or there's 15 captains, and can you play each one of those like the legacy, like the five times?
- 31:46SPEAKER_04: You can play so you pick one captain and you run through the five different chapters or ten games.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: Okay, and so there's a lot of replayability right there, just tons of replayability, playing each captain one scenario or that's right, five scenarios.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, cool.
- 32:03SPEAKER_04: I don't know anything about like Star Trek or if you don't have the lore, would you still be interested in or is that kind of yeah, because it's easy enough to glean like what characters care about what because it tells you like what they synergize with on their cards.
- 32:19SPEAKER_04: And Clay, I I know that your eyes would glaze over with all the proper nouns and stuff, but I think that they do something a little better than Marvel Champions in that it's color-coded, maybe not for the color blind, but they do have like symbols that correlate with other cards that have the same symbol on them, so you can tell immediately what cards synergize.
- 32:40SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 32:41SPEAKER_04: Um, and so there's it they help alleviate some of that that way.
- 32:45SPEAKER_04: And then there's like a couple page glossary in the back that says, like, well, it says that I can scan a card.
- 32:50SPEAKER_04: What does scanning mean?
- 32:52SPEAKER_04: And you just turn it to scan means this.
- 32:54SPEAKER_04: Beaming means you put it right onto a ship.
- 32:56SPEAKER_04: Like, I think after just a like a playthrough or two, um, you can get the basic systems down.
- 33:05SPEAKER_04: And in the back of the book, they have like the different captains that you can play as with their picture and kind of a like a brief bio as to who they are and where they came from in the Star Trek lore.
- 33:16SPEAKER_04: And then it tells you like the complexity of playing that captain, because some of them have very complex systems that do different things, and some of them are very simple, like Jean-Luc Jean-Luc Picard, uh, is like one of the most simple ones because they know that people want to get to Jean-Luc Picard, him and Kirk, and like those guys that everybody knows.
- 33:35SPEAKER_04: And so, like, those ones are pretty simple to get into if they want to jump in and experience this playthrough with a captain that you know and love, and their their systems are simple.
- 33:44SPEAKER_04: But if you master those systems, you can move up and and try different, more complex systems.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: Mike, you had a question.
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: So this is based off of the Imperium system.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: That too right.
- 33:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, did you ever play that?
- 33:58SPEAKER_04: I I haven't, I have not, and that's kind of my blind spot right now is I haven't played Imperium, but I have I've heard people, it seems from what I've read that people are kind of split between Imperium or Star Trek.
- 34:12SPEAKER_04: Like some people like the Imperium system better, some people like Star Trek better.
- 34:15SPEAKER_04: Maybe it's a theming thing.
- 34:17SPEAKER_04: I I don't know.
- 34:18SPEAKER_04: Um, I think people say that Imperium might be a bit more streamlined.
- 34:24SPEAKER_04: Um, but I think that they're going for something a little different here.
- 34:28SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 34:29SPEAKER_04: I mean, let me try Imperium and I'll get back to you.
- 34:31SPEAKER_03: Well, uh, so I've tried it, okay.
- 34:33SPEAKER_03: Um, and the theme didn't hit with me at all.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: Um, this has been in my shopping cart for three weeks, and I keep waiting to hit buy.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: But uh, my question was if you've played both, because and which one you thought was more streamlined, because that's really what it is.
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: Because I do like Marble Champions, and I probably should get that off the shelf soon.
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, I just was curious if you had played both.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: Have you played Star Wars the deck building game?
- 35:03SPEAKER_04: Just fantastic, yeah.
- 35:04SPEAKER_04: Okay, excellent.
- 35:06SPEAKER_04: Um does Riley like uh either of those games?
- 35:13SPEAKER_03: She loves uh she doesn't know a thing about Star Wars, okay, loves the deck building game.
- 35:18SPEAKER_04: Okay, the it might be a bit of an onboarding um for this one because there is a lot of stuff going on and options for you to do, but I think the flow of the game is pretty manageable.
- 35:31SPEAKER_04: Um, it plays very similar to Star Wars a deck building game in that I take the cards that are in my hand, I play them down in front of me, and I just kind of resolve their effects.
- 35:39SPEAKER_04: And then you have like your actions that you can do.
- 35:42SPEAKER_04: You have three actions per turn that have specific chips, like little tokens that you put on the card to say, I have done the action for this card.
- 35:52SPEAKER_04: And so you can kind of like delineate which ones you've done actions on.
- 35:55SPEAKER_04: You do the same thing in like Star Realms or Star Wars deck building game, where you turn the card sideways to show that it's exhausted.
- 36:03SPEAKER_04: It's very similar, it's it feels like it's in that sort of vein.
- 36:07SPEAKER_04: Um, I don't know what mileage you're gonna get out of your uh Star Trek lore or Star Trek theming.
- 36:14SPEAKER_04: But man, I am I'm digging this game.
- 36:16SPEAKER_04: I would say just buy like core box first.
- 36:20SPEAKER_04: See if you like it.
- 36:21SPEAKER_04: Um, because the gold box, the not boldly go.
- 36:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so boldly go, I think is the expansion.
- 36:33SPEAKER_04: There's like the the blue box is the core box, that's Captain Sear.
- 36:37SPEAKER_04: Then they have a gold box that is the same exact size.
- 36:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, that one.
- 36:45SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that is the standalone, that's the expand alone, yeah.
- 36:49SPEAKER_04: And then they have one that is a small box that's gold, and um, that is the kind of expansion for them, and that one has like um the the new animated one, like the lower decks.
- 37:02SPEAKER_04: So yeah, they they have captured pretty much the entirety of Star Trek uh Pantheon here in these three boxes.
- 37:10SPEAKER_04: I can't wait to just keep tearing them open and getting to them because man, this game is so cool.
- 37:15SPEAKER_03: Cool, hit by.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: That's all you needed.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: That's all you needed.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: Uh to cut so Travis, I'll let the record show.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: I I can put up with some things in games, but Marvel Champions was just it was all the things on the cards, and then the upkeep of the villain stuff was just annoying to me.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, does this have also have like a similar exhausting upkeep scenario?
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: Or because I'm willing to put up with one or the other, but I can't like Marvel United, the upkeep is kind of annoying every time a the villain turn, but this the simplicity of the hero turns keeps me there.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I just can't I can't deal with trying to figure out exactly everything I need to do on my turn and then deal with an upkeep of you know 16 steps, and you know, yeah.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: So is is there a similar thing happening here with Star Trek?
- 38:14SPEAKER_04: So on the enemy turn, especially in the solo game, um, there's like a bot captain that you're training against.
- 38:22SPEAKER_04: And the whole the whole theme behind the solo mode is that you are a brand new recruit to Starfleet, and they are putting you through the ringer to try and test your metal against famous captains throughout Star Trek history.
- 38:33SPEAKER_04: And so there is a bot that is basically one of the other captains' decks that you're running against to do this solo campaign.
- 38:44SPEAKER_04: And I think it's a bit easier than Marvel Champions on the upkeep.
- 38:51SPEAKER_04: There are there's a bit to learn about like how the bot behaves, but there is a nice little like player aid on how the bot does its thing, and it always has priorities.
- 39:01SPEAKER_04: So whether that's buying things from the row or you know, taking an incident to then send your way to exploring those new planets that are out there on the kind of neutral galaxy row.
- 39:13SPEAKER_04: Um I think it's less obtuse than Marvel Champions on the upkeep.
- 39:18SPEAKER_04: People with Marvel Champions often struggle with like, well, what triggers first?
- 39:22SPEAKER_04: Is it the threat or the incident?
- 39:25SPEAKER_04: Um, does it dispatch this like other enemy?
- 39:28SPEAKER_04: Does it compound the different attacks that it's doing?
- 39:32SPEAKER_04: Does the threat like that stuff gets a bit uh hard to manage sometimes because the order of operations is not exactly clear.
- 39:41SPEAKER_04: I say the order of operations is clear, but there are some systems that you need to learn to help manage that bot.
- 39:49SPEAKER_04: And I think that's why this one shines as a solo mode, is because if I'm sitting across from another player and playing this game live, some of the stuff that you want to research and look at and like make that decision based on hard synergies is gonna take a little while to sift through.
- 40:06SPEAKER_04: Um, if you do it solo mode, you can just kind of take your time, figure out what the bot needs to do, figure out what I want to do next in response.
- 40:15SPEAKER_04: And it's kind of this like chess against yourself versus uh something that you want to hustle through, you know.
- 40:24SPEAKER_04: You I think that's like that is a pretty similar thing with most solo games, right?
- 40:28SPEAKER_04: Like the most popular ones that are out there being like Spirit Island or Marvel Champions, or like they have these complex systems that people can just live in for a while and master, right?
- 40:39SPEAKER_04: It's a puzzle, it's a puzzle that you're trying to navigate.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's not my bag.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: Uh he said spirit island almost threw up.
- 40:49SPEAKER_04: That is that is seriously one of the one of the most popular solo games ever made.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: I know, I know, I believe people love that system.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: I'm with you, Clay.
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: I I I don't get Spirit Island, I don't understand.
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: No, it don't nothing about that is good in my head.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: No, it I had so little fun playing that almost it it was bad, but I people love it, so don't take my word for it.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: Go find out for yourself.
- 41:18SPEAKER_04: All right, are we ready to move on to our mission objective, which is picking our top five operation game night episodes of all time?
- 41:26SPEAKER_04: Amanda, you have two to deliver as Vic's proxy.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: So I'm gonna let you start us off with your number five.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: So uh Vic only gave me three, so I'll start at three for him uh when we get to there.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: So I'll just go with my my number five was uh hearing uh and live from the World Series of Board Gaming.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 41:53SPEAKER_00: You guys had so much fun, and you got to meet Mike in person.
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: So I just really enjoyed that and hearing about a choir and your experience learning that.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: I actually went out and bought it after that.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: Um, so I just really I loved hearing you guys all get together again in person, and that was just it was so like heartwarming for me to be like, oh, the boys are back together, and they got to meet Mike, and it was just really cool.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: And there was a little bit of FOMO, but uh ultimately just I was really like just so happy for you guys, and I really enjoyed listening to that episode.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: That was a fun one, and it was great meeting Mike.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: That was awesome.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: Well, Mike's gonna have to have the FOMO during PAX, Samantha, so we're gonna have to put out a live from PAX show.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: Come on, Mike.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: Mike, what is your number five episode?
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: Um, so I'm gonna I have six, so I'm gonna combine these two is my number five.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: Uh the first one uh being, and it's because all of us have gone through this, so hearing this side of it from everyone publicly is kind of a cool thing, but board game burnout.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: Um, we've all been through it.
- 43:08SPEAKER_03: Mine last like last year I had one for almost six months where I was just like everything.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: Uh so hearing Clay, and you go over that with everything going on in the world, in your worlds and stuff.
- 43:18SPEAKER_03: That was a big hit for me.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, because I love hearing the personal side behind gaming.
- 43:24SPEAKER_03: I love talking about board games, but I like hearing people's experiences too.
- 43:27SPEAKER_03: Um then the drafting episodes, they're hilarious, they're fantastic.
- 43:35SPEAKER_03: Yes, I love hearing Jared's not rants, tangents as he talks about the things he does.
- 43:45SPEAKER_03: Um, though those episodes crack me up.
- 43:48SPEAKER_03: I I think I've even told you a few ideas that I think you guys should do before.
- 43:52SPEAKER_03: And I just think they're great.
- 43:54SPEAKER_03: I think they're a lot of fun to uh to listen to.
- 43:57SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, those those are my fives.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I'll I'll I'll follow up with my five.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: Mine aren't in really any order, but one of my favorite was the the board game burnout episode.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: Um what I'm gonna combine these as well.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: Board game burnout and why we keep playing games.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: Like those I like Mike, I like talking about games, but I also like talking about everything that surrounds being a gamer, and I like those episodes.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: For me, it's fun to talk about that stuff because it's personal, and I can't the internet can't tell me I'm right or wrong because it's just how I feel.
- 44:33SPEAKER_01: So um, those episodes are some of my favorites that we've done.
- 44:38SPEAKER_04: I think my number five, uh, of course, is one that does not have clay in it.
- 44:43SPEAKER_04: Um, but uh I really enjoyed no, I know uh I really sit enjoyed sitting down with Jared and talking about uh engineers on engine builders.
- 44:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and just you know, Jared and I, we are friends, and uh, but I have not known him all that long.
- 45:02SPEAKER_04: But it's interesting to just like pick his brain and get to learn how Jared works and ticks, and like he has such a mind for engine builders, and he's freaking phenomenal at them and will smoke me all day long.
- 45:17SPEAKER_04: But he is so passionate about that specific type of game because it clicks with him, and I just love talking with people that are passionate about a specific time of type of game.
- 45:27SPEAKER_04: Clay loves his trick takers and he is passionate about his trick takers, and we will rank 35 of them or more.
- 45:34SPEAKER_04: Um, and so it I just love like talking to people that are so passionate about a very specific type of game and get to pick their brain about it.
- 45:42SPEAKER_04: So I'm gonna go with uh engineers on engine builders for my number five.
- 45:46SPEAKER_00: Good one.
- 45:46SPEAKER_01: That's a good one.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: Good one, good one.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: Just to clarify with Mike, were you talking about um when you said the drafting, that was like the build a board game?
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: Is that what you meant?
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: Okay, just making sure because that was that was my number four.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: So when they were doing um the Excel, the spreadsheet, the game, the and there was one that I I remember it was Clay, and his was I think ants.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, was was the it was a like a um what do they say, a bug's life, but like ants.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: I remember that one.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: It's really funny.
- 46:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was my number four.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: Was I you guys did that two different times?
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: Is that correct?
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: I think we've done two of them, two of them, yeah.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: And I just I I remember playing along and just having fun with that too, and you know, being like, Oh, it's interesting why you would pick this versus that, and I really like that.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was my number four.
- 46:43SPEAKER_04: Clay, I don't think you were on the second one that we did, it might have been Mike and Vic.
- 46:48SPEAKER_03: Uh Vic and Tiff, I think I wasn't available for it.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: That's why I did it earlier.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 46:55SPEAKER_01: I think I was part of it.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: I I like those episodes until the part where I have to come up with uh a cohesive pitch statement for it.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: Like I'm I'm there for the you know that's the best part.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: The the It was good until I ran out of money.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: The the picking's fun, but then I I get I get nervous and I can't combined everything in my head fast enough to feel like I'm making a compelling case for my game.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: So those stress me out a little bit, but I do think they're fun to do.
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: All right, Mike, over to you.
- 47:28SPEAKER_03: What is your number for?
- 47:29SPEAKER_03: Uh mine is gonna be the Kenitsia interview.
- 47:33SPEAKER_03: Uh, I thought that was super interesting.
- 47:35SPEAKER_03: It was just when I was really getting into Kenitsia, so it was very cool, created a lot of FOMO for me, um, but also a little bittersweet because that interview blew my episode's first episode with you guys out of the water.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: Uh I had the number one spot for a long time, and then Kenitsia came, uh, which you should.
- 47:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, but yeah, no, that was just a really interesting one.
- 48:00SPEAKER_03: I liked hearing his his thoughts on his own games and and picking what would be the best to for people to try out.
- 48:07SPEAKER_03: And yeah, it was a good, it was good.
- 48:09SPEAKER_03: I liked that one a lot.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: I think we're I think we're in lockstep, you know, on a lot of these probably because you know, Kenitia is the one of my obviously, I it would probably be number one, but for the sake of I don't really have a ranking here.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: These are just five that I like.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: I'll just shout that one out as well.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: That one was a you know, I felt like we could have retired the podcast after that.
- 48:33SPEAKER_01: I was like, all right, we did it, it's not gonna get any better from here.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, honestly.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: So no, that was that was great.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: And Travis and Jared, we all we actually came prepared and we were ready, um, which is a rare thing in Operation Game Night.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: So it was cool to do that.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: And full credit to we kind of pilfered that idea off of Nick from Bitewing Games because in our episode with him, he said that he could probably you could probably give him a scenario and he could get you the perfect Kenitse game for it.
- 49:07SPEAKER_01: So we just took that and ran with it.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: And we're like, well, let's see what the good doctor himself thinks about what game he would suggest for these scenarios.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: So yeah, that was a ton of fun.
- 49:18unknown: That was awesome.
- 49:18SPEAKER_04: And we had different opinions.
- 49:20SPEAKER_04: Like we all picked games that we thought he would choose, and some of them he kind of came out of left field with a game we may or may not have ever heard of, his you know, 800 design credits.
- 49:30SPEAKER_04: So yeah, that was that one was interesting.
- 49:33SPEAKER_04: It was a little nerve-wracking, though.
- 49:34SPEAKER_04: Like it's like, don't meet your heroes, but he lived up to uh every expectation, and what a what a nice dude and so fun to talk to.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: Gem of a human.
- 49:45SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: His like just positive outlook on gaming, and just oh, it was that was very, very heartwarming episode, also.
- 49:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 49:56SPEAKER_04: Okay, mine number four.
- 49:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, I kind of debated about this one for a while, but something happened yesterday that really bumped it up.
- 50:05SPEAKER_04: I saw Reiner Kneetzia's Lord of the Rings on Facebook Marketplace for super cheap.
- 50:12SPEAKER_04: And so I hit this guy up and he's like, Hey, meet me at this bakery.
- 50:17SPEAKER_04: And I was like, Okay, I've been wanting to try this bakery, it's already saved on my Google Maps or whatever.
- 50:23SPEAKER_04: And so I show up and he is not just meeting me at this bakery, he owns the bakery.
- 50:29SPEAKER_04: And he like, he's like, Oh, talk to me about your board gaming experience.
- 50:33SPEAKER_04: And I was like, Oh, well, I'm you know, run this podcast with my friends, and like we love board gaming and all this stuff.
- 50:39SPEAKER_04: And we started, we started bonding, and uh and he goes, like, well, have you ever been to Petri's family games?
- 50:48SPEAKER_04: And I was like, Bro, I live there, I live there, they gotta caught me back.
- 50:52SPEAKER_04: And uh he goes, Oh yeah, me and me and Cam are like good friends, we've been gaming for years and stuff.
- 50:58SPEAKER_04: Like, what a small world! So, my number four is the episode that we did with Cam.
- 51:02SPEAKER_04: And Clay was live and in person from the back room in Petri's.
- 51:06SPEAKER_04: And I love Cam as a person, and I love Petri's, and I love uh the board gaming community that they build out of the friendly local game store.
- 51:16SPEAKER_04: And everybody has like their friendly local game store, and they all have stories, and we get to hear very few of them.
- 51:22SPEAKER_04: We patronize the store and we go in and we we you know support them as a business, but we don't really often get times to support the person that runs the business.
- 51:32SPEAKER_04: So uh it was cool to hear directly from Cam how he sees board gaming as an industry, and um man, that was that was great to kind of get the story behind the the person that we interact with all the time.
- 51:47SPEAKER_04: So uh my number four is our interview with Cam from Petri's Family Games.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, awesome.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: Amanda, what do you got next?
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: You and Vic.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: I think you and Vic are on deck.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: Yep, now we're on Vic.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: We'll go with Vic.
- 52:01SPEAKER_00: Um, so he really he wasn't specific about the episode, but he said the one where you talked about Mlem or M Lem with Jared.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: That was one of his favorites, and I think that is uh specifically in his mind because we Vic and I just did uh an unreleased podcast um about Lem.
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: So no way, yeah, um, should be coming out soon, but yeah, so M Mlem Lem, um, that episode was one of Vic's favorites.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: I think that was a Turkey Day recap or Thanksgiving recap because I had played that with Jared uh at Thanksgiving.
- 52:40SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 52:41SPEAKER_01: So if if if you're listening to this and you want to go back and hear Vic's third favorite episode, that was the Thanksgiving recap.
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: What number was that?
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: No, I'm just kidding.
- 52:49SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 52:50SPEAKER_01: We stopped numbering.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: I know I noticed that last night when I was doing my research.
- 52:56SPEAKER_00: I was like, what number is this?
- 52:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, numbered, but no, that's okay.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: So my uh number three uh is going to be, I mean, they're all near and dear to my heart, but my number three would have been your first episode with Paul Solomon.
- 53:14SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 53:15SPEAKER_04: I was gonna I thought you were gonna say first episode, period.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: Like, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.
- 53:19SPEAKER_04: Please, please, no.
- 53:21SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 53:22SPEAKER_00: That one's not even is that one even live anymore?
- 53:24SPEAKER_00: It is, and it is our most listen to episode.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: Didn't you take it down once?
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: We should.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: It's like double should.
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: No, but uh the first one with Paul and and the most recent one that you did too.
- 53:37SPEAKER_00: Um, but you know you you know how much I love Paul, and he's such just a down-to-earth, humble, like just awesome dude.
- 53:47SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, he's still he he works in the board game industry, but he's a teacher, and he's got great designs, and he's just he was my first interview, also, and the first like real board game designer I really met, and just approachable and and such a nice guy.
- 54:08SPEAKER_00: So, um, the interview, the the first interview, and obviously the second one too, but I could only pick one.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: So the first interview with Paul Solomon was my number three.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Paul's a freaking smart dude too.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, he just knows his crap, and I I trust him.
- 54:26SPEAKER_01: He's another person like Bytewing and Paul Solomon, like those the I guess I could say Paul Solomon slash gamehead and Bitewing are like two companies where they just they get my taste in games and I'm I'm here for anything they do.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, anything they do, I'm here for it.
- 54:47SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 54:47SPEAKER_04: Mike, over to you.
- 54:51SPEAKER_03: So uh I think this episode is the funniest episode you've ever done.
- 54:59SPEAKER_03: Uh just like the banter between everyone.
- 55:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, and it it it's compounded by the fact that I drive by a donut shop every day, and that's donuts and downsizing.
- 55:09SPEAKER_03: Uh this sparks debates when I I talk to people about the price of donuts.
- 55:18SPEAKER_03: Uh it was just so comical.
- 55:21SPEAKER_03: I I honestly I don't remember much about the episode except for the donuts conversation, but it was just a very interesting, very entertaining.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: Clay got a little heated if I remembered about the price of donuts.
- 55:33SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, but uh it's a good it once again, it's one of those like outside of gaming, very interesting, very fun, and it was just a very lively episode.
- 55:44SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, that's one of my favorites.
- 55:46SPEAKER_03: It's honestly these first the the top three could be interchangeable.
- 55:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I wasn't expecting that.
- 55:52SPEAKER_01: I did not I did not see donuts and downsizing making the list, but that's awesome.
- 55:57SPEAKER_04: That is one of the that's one of like the chaotic moments of OGN that uh I actually had that one on my short list as well when I was combing through the episodes.
- 56:05SPEAKER_04: I was looking at donuts and downsizing.
- 56:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's still I just bought$15 donuts the other day, and it makes me think of it everyone.
- 56:13SPEAKER_04: Oh my goodness.
- 56:14SPEAKER_04: All right, Clay, over to you.
- 56:16SPEAKER_01: Um, three for me is gonna be the small box game bracket.
- 56:22SPEAKER_01: I really had a good time.
- 56:24SPEAKER_01: A lot of these are just, I mean, I don't I don't know that these are the best episodes, but these are the ones that I enjoyed doing.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: Uh I just like that comparison and ranking.
- 56:33SPEAKER_01: Uh I always love doing that.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: So putting that bracket together and going through it and having to, oh my God, is high society better than for sale?
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: Like, which one are we picking?
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: And I just love small box games.
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: So that episode was a ton of fun for me to go through that exercise and crown sea salt and paper the champion, which I think I think in I think if we ran it again, I might, I might have a different outcome, but we should.
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: We should do that every year because I really I really enjoyed that one.
- 57:02SPEAKER_00: That was on my short list too.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: But then I was like, they pick sea salt and paper, so all right.
- 57:10SPEAKER_01: Well, well, it was Mary's fault.
- 57:12SPEAKER_01: It was Mary's fault.
- 57:13SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: She was the tiebreaker, wasn't she?
- 57:15SPEAKER_04: She was.
- 57:16SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 57:17SPEAKER_04: Well, Amanda, you'll have to come uh be on our next small box bracket, and that'd be fun.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: There's so many more to add, too.
- 57:24SPEAKER_00: Like, honestly, we could probably do like top 100 and and break it down, especially with everything that like game head and all play are releasing.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: There's so many more than than just what you guys had the the first time.
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: Just so many more have been released.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, let's do it.
- 57:42SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna do it.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: I'm putting you on the books.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do a hundred game small box bracket.
- 57:47SPEAKER_03: If you ever do content that gets content, let me know.
- 57:50SPEAKER_03: What if you said if you ever do big box games?
- 57:53SPEAKER_04: The big box games, for that one, big box being boring bracket, the Everdell complete collection versus Gloomhaven.
- 58:03SPEAKER_04: I would I was more thinking like uh tapestry and uh certain games.
- 58:08SPEAKER_04: All right, the Bayesian boring bracket.
- 58:12SPEAKER_02: Yes, and boring bracket.
- 58:14SPEAKER_04: All right, uh my number three.
- 58:17SPEAKER_04: I just had it.
- 58:18SPEAKER_04: Oh, this might be recency bias.
- 58:20SPEAKER_04: Um, but Peter C.
- 58:22SPEAKER_04: Hayward, we got him for two episodes as a surprise.
- 58:25SPEAKER_04: Man, what a guy, what a character, what a like I just felt like he came on surprisingly, and we just jived immediately.
- 58:34SPEAKER_04: He's got great energy.
- 58:35SPEAKER_04: I love just hearing how his brain works because it is amazing, and he truly is a uh alien of exceptional abilities, and he's got a lot of skills and um thinks about games in a unique way that I think even most designers don't think.
- 58:52SPEAKER_04: Um, so what a what a great dude to just talk about anything and everything with, and we kind of went here, there, and everywhere in those two episodes, but um, he's got a lot of energy and a lot of brain power, and it's cool to see how he puts that into the world.
- 59:08SPEAKER_04: So my number three is our interviews with uh Peter C.
- 59:13SPEAKER_04: Hayward.
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just to jump on that, I've the most interesting thing that I remember him saying was he likes to design games that just have a winner.
- 59:26SPEAKER_00: There's no no points, no victory points, and everything that he's co-designed is something that ends up having different victory points.
- 59:34SPEAKER_00: But in his mind, he just wants there to be um like an end win condition, win condition, absolutely, yeah.
- 59:41SPEAKER_00: So I thought that was really interesting, and I never I was I thought about that.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: I was like, yeah, there aren't a lot of games that are like that.
- 59:48SPEAKER_00: Most of them are victory points.
- 59:50SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 59:50SPEAKER_04: So you could probably open up half of your 500 games and there'd be some sort of score tracker on the outside of the board.
- 59:55SPEAKER_04: Yep, yep, and he's not like that.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: It's pretty I'll I'll take a tally, I'll let you know.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: I'll be back next year.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_00: So Vic's um, probably number two was when you guys went through the hot list and you talked about everything that was on the hot list, and half of them, you're like, I don't know, I've never even heard of this game.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_00: I was like, Technical OGN, well prepared.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've never even heard of this game.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_04: Peak podcasting there.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_04: That was pretty early on, okay.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_04: Like, I well, I I don't know.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_04: Sometimes I scroll through the hot list and I've still like uh never.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_04: I don't I don't know what anything.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: So that was one of Vicks and that one we thought was really funny.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_00: Um, my number four, or number, what are we two?
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_00: We're going backwards.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: Uh number two uh would be your uh brief interview with Seth from Operation Tabletop.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_00: And another one that is very near and dear to my heart.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: Um Operation Tabletop is an organization located right here in Florida that is building a community for active duty service members as well as veterans to help create a community and prevent veteran suicide.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: And I just really love everything that Seth is doing.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: Um, his story, you know, that he had lost his brother and and kind of took a downward spiral himself, but then got out of it through community and is turning it into a positive.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_00: And just really, really love that, you know, being, you know, married to a veteran, having a stepson who's also currently active in the Air Force and knowing you guys and just really having a love and respect for the military.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_00: And even though I have no idea what any, you know, any of you have gone through, I can I can only imagine.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_00: And I love that Seth is is reaching out and trying to create that community to to help those that you know probably aren't going to ask for help and um just creating that space for them.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_01: So yeah, that one's that's that's what board gaming's all about.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, community, right?
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_01: Seth the man.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: I have a huge pile of games that I need to send his way.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_01: I've been I've just been stacking them up and um waiting to head to the post office.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_00: I'd say wait until December and I could bring them home, but that's kind of a long time.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_01: Well, as long as they've been sitting here, December might be December might be closer than than you think.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_01: Are you are you driving or flying?
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: We're flying.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't know that you'll be able to take all these back, so I might have to go we'll keep in touch.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_00: We'll figure it out.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_04: Go the hard way.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_04: All right, we could rent a U-Haul truck and we can all just ship them down together.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_04: How about that?
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_00: All right, but yeah, that's my number two, is Seth.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_03: Mike, over to you.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_03: Uh, well, crossover here, never roll alone is also my number two.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_03: Uh, I love hearing the heartfelt story, I love the the whole operation that he has going down there.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_03: I think it's great.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_03: I do think games build community.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_03: Um, and it's just and I see from an outside perspective a lot here because of my current job, because I work for a nonprofit that houses uh homeless veterans.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_03: Um, and they actually just started doing like a game night, very low-end, you know, checkers, stuff like that.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_03: Um and I we I've been talking to my boss about it more though that I've seen that, and we're gonna try to get something going with a little more gaming um here with some of our veterans that we we help here.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_03: But it's just a cool thought, and things like you you see a lot of these veterans that need a lot more than what they get, especially I don't know.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_03: I I'm sorry, I'm getting a little emotional all of a sudden, apparently.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, it's sad to see people not get you know, have a community that they can, and I I love the fact that he's taking the time to create a community for for the people there, especially with the child care.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_03: Like that, I see that a lot here.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_03: Like they're they can't do anything.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_03: You finding even a job is hard because they have kids and not have anyone to take care of them.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_03: Um, so the fact that they're giving these vets an outlet is fantastic, and I think it's awesome.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_03: Love it.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_03: So it's good, good episode.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_03: Uh heartfelt stories.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_03: Love it.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was awesome.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna I'm gonna pivot away from heartfelt, heartfelt stories and operation tabletop to back to my my real passion of Dr.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_01: Kenizia.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: My second favorite episode was doing the Mount Rushmore of Kenizia games with Nick from Bytewing Games.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_01: It was great to have another Kenizia file in the house and just really jam about what the the four, is it four?
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_01: Is that how many are on Mount Rushmore?
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_01: What the four best games are.
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_01: I couldn't remember if there's five presidents up there or not.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, that was a lot of fun, a lot of good discussions about like what warrants being considered the uh Mount Rushmore of Kenitsia games.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I really love that.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_01: Again, I just love leaning into things I like talking about, so that's why the Kenizia Mount Rushmore makes my number two, even above Kenizium himself.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_00: Probably you could redo that episode too now with all the Bitewing you know remakes, ones that you'd probably never even heard of before.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_04: True.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_00: I don't know lots of content there with Kenitsium.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Nick was like very like hard and fast about like this is what needs to be on there.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_04: And I feel like he came in with like his he had thought about this clearly more so than we did.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_04: But uh he came in with his Mount Rushmore pretty much already formulated, like he was pretty uh convincing in his arguments for sure.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_01: I mean he ranked uh I think he he had a 200 game Kenizia ranking where he tier ranked 200 Kenizia games.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_01: So yeah, he definitely he knows yeah oh yeah, it's on Bytewing's channel.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_01: He knows his crap, and that's why I was so excited to talk to him about that.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_00: Uh is that one of those like S A B tier yeah things?
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'll have to check that out.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like it's like five hours of content split over three videos.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: So yeah, but but I learned a lot from it.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_00: Like I put it out in the background, yeah.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_01: A bunch of different games I'd never heard of before.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_01: So um that's good stuff.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_04: Travis, what do you got?
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_04: All right, uh, my number two.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_04: I am already wringing my hands about.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_04: I Kenito was great, and it was like a little nerve-wracking to speak to the good doctor himself.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_04: Nick from Bite Wings was good.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, this is gonna be a cop-out, but I think like some of our designer interviews have just been so good.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_04: Paul Solomon turns me on to new games every single time he comes on.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_04: Um, and it's just great to listen to these guys in the upper echelons of like the board game sphere talk about the games that they love and the games that they design.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_04: And the game, and so it's it's a cop out, I know, but um, just our big name designers are probably up there.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_04: Um I didn't know we could do that.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_04: I didn't know we could just I know together.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_04: Now that we're down to the nitty-gritty, uh, I'm just gonna take a copy.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they never have and they never will.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_03: And uh I can just do what I want.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_03: So I would love to see you guys get Jamie Stagmire.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_03: Me too.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_00: I would love to hear he's got super specific rules for interviews, though.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_00: 30 minutes Monday through Friday.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_00: Like you you you work in you work him into your schedule, he does not work into yours.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I've read that I've read it before, but but he's willing to do it though.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, that's that's I would love to hear you guys talk to him.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_03: Me too.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_03: Eric Olson.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_00: I love to hear you guys talk to him with tally up and flip seven and all of his creations, booty dice.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_00: Oh let's get Eric Eric Olsen on the on the pod.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_01: More interviews, yes, more interviews.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_02: Let's just interview somebody every time.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_04: Talk to him about donuts.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_04: That's yeah.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_04: Do you think Jamie knows that the uh rules don't apply to me?
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_04: And I can just give me my skills.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_04: You can float it by them.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like hey Jamie, listen, I I know you're specific, but this is your time slot.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_00: Be there, Jamie.
- 1:08:44SPEAKER_04: I know uh I know Stonemaier Games is on the rise and that you need publicity, so you hit us up on Operation Game Night uh Instagram and we'll consider you.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_04: We'll actually do the uh we'll do you a favor to you.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, all right, Amanda, send it.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_00: All right, so Vic's um number one is going to be when Clay talked about his favorite games.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_00: Apparently he likes Clay, so everything should.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_01: I have I have impeccable taste not like gaming.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_00: Not like he's doing a podcast with Clay or anything, but Clay seems to be his favorite.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_00: But he was talking about when you did your uh ranking of games, he really enjoyed that.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_01: Probably that the recent one with like the 38 games I think so ranked.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_00: I th I I thought maybe, but I thought it was when you did your like S tier, A tier.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_01: That was that that's we'll have to clarify with Vic.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_00: All I have is Clay's favorite games.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_00: That's what I have to go off of.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, anytime wait till you hear us number one, it can't be Clay.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_00: It was his number one.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_00: Is aren't we on number one?
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_04: Are we?
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, we are on number one.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Travis.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_01: Come on, sorry, Trav.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_00: All right, all right.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_00: So my personal number one is episode number two.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_00: Number two, and I'll tell you why, because I went and listened to the whole thing again last night.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_00: Um sorry.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_00: First of all, um there was like the the green room uh chat before the like before the theme song, basically.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_00: It was like you guys were just like chatting it up, and then it was like, oh yeah, I think we're gonna start now.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_00: And and and it had the original theme song, which you know I'm partial to.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_04: Me too.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_00: Um the theme song and also the original intro with Travis.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, mount up mount up, get your battle rattle on and mount.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_00: I just I don't know why that was just so much fun for me.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_00: I really loved that.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_00: Um, and it is the old format, obviously, where you're gonna talk about um your plays and procurements, um, you know, go and then the the topic du jour, which was your top five games, um, and then the over the fence.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_00: I do, I do love the three-segment long format, and I appreciate that.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_00: I I know you guys tried to do the the you know shorter content videos, but I think there was and they were good, but I think there was just something missing, you know, it was that whole like just feel of of sitting down and having, you know, these three segments.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_00: This is what we're gonna talk about every week.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_00: Um that one, that one specifically was your top five games.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_00: And I just remember like the first time I listened to it, I felt like like I was there, like I was just hanging out with the guys, talking about games, and and it was all games that I knew and loved and played, and that's what really drew me in to OGN as a podcast, because it was it wasn't it wasn't like unobtainable, you know, like you know, listening to other podcasts or like people, you know, people that are top-tier board gaming that you would never approach or hang out with because it just kind of seems like they're they're too you know, they're out there, they're they're those unattainable stars of the industry.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_00: And you guys were just the guys, and and I really just a bunch of dudes, you know, talking about games that I knew and that I also enjoyed, and I felt just a real connection, you know, to you guys, and obviously I have ever since.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_00: And I've just uh I really enjoy I that's the the thing that brings me back every week to the podcast is that you're just a couple of uh you know, a few dudes in the air force talking about board games, like just really approachable, um good dudes.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_04: Well, I think that we're connected to you two.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_04: When we came on the uh have a seat with Amanda Lee podcast, that was how we described this operation game night, whatever it is.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_00: A couple of dudes.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_04: There's a bunch of dudes hanging out talking about board games, and uh and and Amanda, I was clicking around in our StreamYard streams recording space, and I found this, and I'm gonna play it just for you.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_04: Welcome to the Operation Game Night Podcast.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_04: Can you hear it?
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_04: Oh, you can't play it?
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_04: Oh, well, that's I we I heard it and Mike.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_04: You heard it?
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_04: I heard it.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_04: Okay, I didn't hear it.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_04: Well, it was our original intro with me yelling in the mic.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_00: Yes, I love it.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_00: Get your battle rattle on.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_00: It still exists, mountain up.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_04: Maybe we need to go, maybe we need to go back to like the cold open.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, bring that intro back.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, we you could keep the music, but bring the intro back.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_02: All right, cold opens.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_02: Bring back the intro.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_00: I uh ever since you guys have talked about you know plays and pure procurements, every Sunday in my Sunday stats, I always put hashtag plays and procurements in my and and in that episode specifically, number two, it was plays, procurements, and thought about because Clay was like, Well, what about just some some games we've thought about?
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: Maybe we haven't played them, but we thought I like it.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_04: I man, let's go back, let's go back to the beginning.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was some good, solid content.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_00: The sound quality was not great, but I I could hear a dog barking in the background.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_00: It was but it was just it was the beginning of something really special.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_00: And look at where you guys are now.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_01: I just had pretty much the same place.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_00: No, no, I just I really I just felt such a connection, you know, with you guys, and and I don't know why, but it was just just a bunch of dudes talking about board games, and and and I wish I wish everybody else would just sit down and listen and and and be friends with my dudes too.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_04: Come be friends with us dudes, yeah.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_01: Well, you think you ever want Amanda I'm glad I get to be one of the dudes in those early days.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_01: We're like, is anybody even gonna listen to this?
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_01: And you gave us hope that there was somebody that that felt connected to this.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_01: I'm like, all right, I guess we should keep going, you know.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_01: If not for anybody, for Amanda.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's very true.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_01: And my mom and Clay's mom.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_00: Is she coming to PAX?
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_01: No, she probably would though if I if I told her about it.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_01: Maybe I should bring it up.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_01: She should come, she should come.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_01: All right, I'll I'll upload it.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_04: That's one of the either one.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_04: That's one of the patrons of Operation Game Night.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_04: She needs to be there.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'll bring her a t-shirt.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_04: How about that?
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_03: All right, all right, Mike, your number one.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_03: So mine is kind of similar, it's about being one of the guys, and that would be World Series of Board Gaming podcast.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and given that this is kind of biased, because one World Series Board Game was the first large con I'd ever been to, uh, and I only went for you three, uh, and Vic, but he didn't show.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_03: Uh Vic.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_03: Oh, really?
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_03: Well, I think he was originally supposed to be going, then he was back in.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_03: Um, but that whole experience, the build-up to that final day podcast, watching Jared walk into the uh tournament or try to chase down famous people to get on the podcast, the five-hour tapestry game until one in the morning, uh, still one of the worst ideas, I think.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_03: Uh or play finally getting me to like Castles of Burgundy, and then coming all together at the very end and having that podcast.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_03: And well, I I wasn't even supposed to be on that podcast, I was just happy to walk in it by, and I think Jared stood up and yelled at me and uh come over.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_03: Uh so that that whole experience was great.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_03: Even the night walkers when I try to go get dinner and the the drug dealers and all that stuff.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_03: All of that aside, Vegas, baby.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_03: It was a great experience.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_03: That podcast is like a uh time machine for me.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_03: Like, I I I go back and I've listened to it a few times, just like yeah, it's a great episode.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_03: It was great meeting you guys and playing games with you guys, and the other guy who played tapestry with us because I can't remember his name.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_03: Um, but he he was a gem.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_03: Um, and correcting me on a rule of about my favorite game that I've never known.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_03: Um, so yeah, no, that that episode is near and dear.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, it was a great time um being on it, being there for it, um, and watching Jared.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_03: Like Jared is just uh a creature uh in and of itself.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_03: He really is to be around and for anyone who's listening, it that he's like that all the time.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_03: Uh the entire condo is that way.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_03: So yeah, yeah, you get what you see, you get what you see.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_03: He is a hundred percent him.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_03: Um we are nothing if not ourselves on this podcast, very much so.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, that's it.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_03: Number one world series of board gaming.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_03: Uh I wish you guys were going this year because then I would go again.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_01: We don't we don't have the can we don't have a two-convention budget, you know.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're we we're a one convention a year, and maybe next year when Jared's able to go to the World Series again.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_03: You know, yeah, different con every year.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I like them.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_01: Well, my number one I is our holiday holiday grab bag episode.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_01: And it's because of you people, you know, Mike, Amanda, Vic, all the all the people we've met throughout this podcast.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_01: I just I love that episode because we just got to get on and talk about games with our friends that you know I I wouldn't have ever thought when we started this that I could have made friends throughout doing this podcast.
- 1:19:23SPEAKER_01: But I truly do consider all of you guys friends and Tiff and Vic.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_01: And you know, it's just it's been great to meet people through this and people that'll just show up at last minute on a whim to come do a podcast with us and play games with us on board game arena.
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_01: I'm really excited to go to PAX and get to hang out with Amanda.
- 1:19:45SPEAKER_01: I we've not met in person.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_01: It feels like I we've met in person, but I don't think we have.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_01: I feel because we've just been engaged with you for two years now.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_01: Like it's just you know, so it's I'm excited about that.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_01: So that episode just kind of sums up what I really love about this podcast.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_01: Like, forget all the designers, forget all the stuff.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_01: It's just fun talking to people that like games and that I like being around.
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_01: So thank you guys.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 1:20:13SPEAKER_03: Are you rethinking Tiff?
- 1:20:15SPEAKER_03: Because she chose sleep over this.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's got a demerit for sure.
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_01: But we'll we'll we'll see.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_04: You know, I'm sure she'll work her way back into our good graces eventually.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she did the Lairs episode, which made my short list.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna because I was very much on the fence about Lairs.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_00: Um, but that after that it was like, yes, I have to have it.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_00: So yeah, no, so we gotta we'll give her give her some grace, give her a little grace.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that's my number one.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_01: Travis, what do you got?
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_04: Well, I'm gonna break the rules again because I my favorite episode is anytime we have our friends on, like the the designers are nice, uh, but sometimes those feel like a bit flat, and it feels like questions that have already been asked.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_04: We try and switch it up and do something different and ask some unique questions and take a unique spin on interviews with these guys, and and I love picking their brains.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_04: But the times that I leave the podcast studio, which is a guest room for me, uh, and I and I I just feel like so energized afterwards when we talk with our friends, and whether it's like doing rankings or board game drafts or board game 20 questions, or we've we we played these games and we have that one, we have lots of fun, and like I just get so energized talking with the people that are passionate about board gaming and the friends that we've made.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_04: Like, we don't spend a lot of time together.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_04: Clay and I see each other virtually once a week, but like the times that I feel really energized and and excited is any time that I get to talk with the friends that we've made during this hobby, and that's you guys, and that's Tiff, and that's Vic, and that's Tara, and that's Sam, and that's you know, Tay, and that's all these people that continue to show up for Operation Game Night.
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_04: And uh that yeah, it means the world to us that you guys continue to support, and we would not continue to do this if it was just me and Clay talking into the void together.
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_04: Um, as much as I love talking with Clay every week, like that was how this originally started was an excuse to talk to my friends about board games, and my friend circle has just gotten bigger as we've gone along, and I yeah, it it makes me so happy every time I get to see you guys and talk to you guys every single week.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_03: Same also, I forgot about the Tay thing, yeah, and that whole that would be there with donuts.
- 1:22:46SPEAKER_03: Excellent.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that one was that just relived that in my head, that whole conversation.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_03: Oh, was that I was I was thinking about that the other day.
- 1:22:58SPEAKER_00: I was thinking about that too.
- 1:22:59SPEAKER_00: The the what do we call it?
- 1:23:01SPEAKER_04: Multiple paths or whatever.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_00: Or what how did he describe it?
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, geez, that was that was some peak.
- 1:23:13SPEAKER_04: And we just like sprung we sprung that on Tay, like all a sudden, too.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_04: Like, hey, hey, friend that we met on the internet, like let's talk about our first second again.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, thank you, Tay, for uh Travis.
- 1:23:27SPEAKER_00: When are we going to have uh a board game background?
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_00: What do you got going on there?
- 1:23:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so we um we just moved across the country, but uh like where's we moved into his house and um this is our guest room.
- 1:23:44SPEAKER_04: We do have an office, which is what we had previously, and I had my games behind me.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_04: Um, but our office here does not have a door on it, and with a two-year-old running around, those games would be on the floor and open, and fair.
- 1:23:59SPEAKER_04: I'd be on the internet asking what piece does this game board game go to.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_00: Um be a fun new episode.
- 1:24:06SPEAKER_04: It could be, yeah.
- 1:24:06SPEAKER_04: Let's watch my daughter demolish all of uh my board games.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, I'm I need to do something.
- 1:24:13SPEAKER_04: I just need to like take a picture of my old board game wall and like superimpose it on a green screen behind me.
- 1:24:18SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 1:24:20SPEAKER_04: Uh but yeah, um to be TBD, because this is now the guest room slash where I put my desk.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_00: So you can use my background as your background to pretend that we're like sitting next to each other.
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 1:24:36SPEAKER_04: All right, do we do it?
- 1:24:38SPEAKER_00: No, not yet.
- 1:24:39SPEAKER_00: I have a question.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_04: Okay, yes.
- 1:24:41SPEAKER_00: What's next for OGN?
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's you're asking a lot of things.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_00: What's the what's what's the five-year plan?
- 1:24:49SPEAKER_03: OGN con.
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_00: Yes, I do.
- 1:24:52SPEAKER_04: I'll do one.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_00: I'm in.
- 1:24:54SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I we do have a lot of friends that would be down to do OGN con.
- 1:24:59SPEAKER_04: Um, that would be like a year out, like we start planning it a long time in advance and hopefully find a centralized location that we could all meet up and play lots of board games and just hang out with our friends for a weekend or so.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think that's in the future horizon somewhere.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_03: Or would that be Nebraska?
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, or like North Dakota or something.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, uh a destination.
- 1:25:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_00: Well, they do have the the board game ranch or whatever it's called in the St.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_00: Louis area.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_00: It's super pricey, so it'd probably be cheaper to bring our own games than and I think it's in the middle of nowhere, too, like an hour from civilization.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so you have to like plan your food trip.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_03: Like it's an hour from St.
- 1:25:48SPEAKER_03: Louis or something.
- 1:25:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, and well, just find an Airbnb, and we'll everybody'll bring food and snacks and games, and we got plenty of games to bring if we know anything from listening to to the podcast earlier.
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_01: We got a man's got 250.
- 1:26:05SPEAKER_01: She's gotta get off the the shelf of shame.
- 1:26:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh no shame here.
- 1:26:10SPEAKER_01: No shame opportunity.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_01: Clay can build the schedule because that's what Clay does best.
- 1:26:15SPEAKER_01: Yes, I don't like any distractions from gaming, so uh we will build those into the schedule.
- 1:26:20SPEAKER_01: If you need idle chit chat time, we will ensure there's uh appropriate breaks for that, and then we can play live route.
- 1:26:27SPEAKER_00: He's gonna have table assignments and hey, homeland just came out.
- 1:26:33SPEAKER_01: I have it, yeah.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_01: Do you?
- 1:26:35SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, we can do a live route.
- 1:26:37SPEAKER_03: Travis and I can play Dune.
- 1:26:39SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_03: More of Arrakis.
- 1:26:42SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 1:26:43SPEAKER_00: Okay, Clay, what do we play?
- 1:26:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:46SPEAKER_01: A man and I can play GoFish.
- 1:26:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think there we go.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_04: I think uh OG and Meetup is certainly needed in the future.
- 1:26:55SPEAKER_04: Um, we do have our list of people that we would want to have on the podcast, um, but we kind of trickle those as they become available, or we you know need to fill some gaps.
- 1:27:06SPEAKER_04: Um, I think I more rankings.
- 1:27:08SPEAKER_04: We're always gonna do more rankings.
- 1:27:10SPEAKER_04: We love those episodes because they're fun to just think about and debate.
- 1:27:13SPEAKER_04: Um I just I I think we just need to like keep playing games with our friends, like not just board games, but like come on the podcast and play games.
- 1:27:21SPEAKER_04: Board game 20 questions, board game draft, yeah, the board game pitch, which has not been revitalized in a long time.
- 1:27:26SPEAKER_00: Yep, that was the one I was just gonna say was also on my short list was when you were pitching to Jared.
- 1:27:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was and maybe we could just uh shoot him an email pitch so he can respond.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't remember who I talked about this with Travis or Clay.
- 1:27:44SPEAKER_03: I think it was Clay, but maybe Jared's first episode back, you can give him a topic and then just go off the hinges and be like, we're gonna talk about tapestry, and then start explaining a different game altogether and just see how he responds to it.
- 1:27:59SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_01: that i love that i think it was clay i was talking about like an april fools thing yeah that would be good episode that's that would be good of course that would be the one that like goes you know does really well for us and then it uh the people would be like these guys don't know anything about board games or they're not even talking about the right game that's not even the rules yeah that's that's the joke yeah that's that's pretty good I like that one clay what what else you got in the future um in the immediate future I think next week we're gonna do a our revitalized top ten list for the year so it's been about a year since we went through that exercise so we'll see how it shakes out next week and I am we are in talks with the uh guys at board game hot takes um and we are gonna have a crossover episode coming in the near future so um I think Tim might join us which which we were trying to get Adam because he was a fellow Air Force Academy grad but apparently he's a little reclusive and he's not as easy to reach so Tim who manages their uh he does the all the managing of socials and things he's like well if Adam doesn't get back too soon I'll I'll hop on the show with you guys so um he might be coming on eventually but stay tuned for that but yeah I I think we're back to the old format.
- 1:29:21SPEAKER_04: I like the old format um if you yeah we're always open to feedback and trying new things so we went we strayed from our path for a while and we're now we're back so due to popular demand you know what's in the future within the next probably the next year it's probably a golden geek award yeah we're probably I I push every time we're probably in the running yeah we're probably up there yeah yeah and then Jamie Stagmar will come running running to the podcast and see if you can pencil him in I know you're trying to get Stonemaier games off you know off the ramp but um if you need a boost yeah come on hit me up we'll get you there we'll get you there we'll get you there all right uh we've been going for an hour and a half now uh I don't know if we have time for an over the fence right we forgot that part we've been we've been going for a while now uh so I think we're gonna go ahead and call it but you guys are always welcome back on if you have a free day that you're like hey I just want to record and talk about this game let us know because we will we would love to have you on our good friends Amanda Lee and Mike the meeple that loses empty nest board mama for your Sunday stats thank you guys so much for joining us thank you for being with us from the beginning and continuing to be our friends here at Operation Game Night we love all of our fans and we love our friends and we love making content that you guys enjoy listening to go ahead if you're watching the YouTube or you are listening to the podcast let us know what your favorite Operation Game Night episodes have been in the comments leave us a review like and subscribe all that good stuff I have been Travis he has been Clay this has been Operation Game Night happy birthday Operation Game Night two years two whole years we made it we made
