Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / Aligning the Inner Being With the Psychic Aspiration Overcomes the Pressure of Despondency and Depression in the Course of the Spiritual Sadhana
Transcript
- 0:01Taking the right attitude when feelings of failure or
- 0:04depression arise in the course of the spiritual practice is
- 0:08essential to navigate through these moods with the least
- 0:11disruption. Srioro Bindo implies that the
- 0:14standpoint should be in the separate witness consciousness,
- 0:17which he distinguishes from the external being.
- 0:21The external being is subject to the changes brought about by the
- 0:25three Gunas and thus will from time to time see an uprising of
- 0:30vital disturbance or feelings of weakness, failure, incompetence,
- 0:36etcetera. Regardless of how the external
- 0:39being responds, the witness consciousness needs to make the
- 0:43choice to adhere to the aspiration of the true Self, the
- 0:48psychic being and its connection to the Divine.
- 0:52The psychic being knows that the divine relationship is constant
- 0:57and unshakable, Sri Aurobindo writes quote.
- 1:02Do not allow yourself to admit any movement of vital
- 1:05depression, still less a depressed condition.
- 1:09As for the external being, it is always not only in you, but in
- 1:14everyone, a difficult animal to handle.
- 1:18It has to be dealt with by patients and a quiet and
- 1:21cheerful perseverance. Never get depressed by its
- 1:25resistance, for that only makes it sensitive and aggrieved and
- 1:30difficult, or else discouraged. Give it rather the encouragement
- 1:35of sunlight and a quiet pressure, and one day you will
- 1:39find it opening entirely to the grace.
- 1:43One must learn to go forward on the path of yoga, as the Gita
- 1:46insists, with a consciousness free from despondency on near
- 1:52Vina Chetasa. Even if one slips, one must
- 1:58rectify the posture. Even if one falls, one has to
- 2:02rise and go undiscouraged on the Divine way.
- 2:06The attitude must be. The Divine has promised himself
- 2:10to me, if I cleave to him always, that I will never cease
- 2:15to do whatever may come. End Quote.
