- 0:00Hey, beautiful friends, and welcome back to She Speaks Like
- 0:03podcast. You are currently listening to
- 0:06an episode out of the Fuel Your Life series, and I am so
- 0:11thankful you've tuned in today because I believe God has a
- 0:14fresh word for us, a word that can lift any heavy burns that
- 0:19may be weighing you down. And I want you to right now
- 0:24think for a moment. Is there anything in your life
- 0:27that seems weighty? Maybe it's the weight of
- 0:30finances, maybe it's concerns of your children, maybe it's about
- 0:34your health, or maybe it's just the uncertainty of the future.
- 0:38If you feel tired from carrying it all, today's verse is a
- 0:42reminder that you were never meant to carry anything that is
- 0:46not of God. And what I absolutely love about
- 0:49God's Word is that renews our mind.
- 0:52It gives us unfailing truth, and it never returns void.
- 0:56In fact, Isaiah 5511 says that God's word shall not return to
- 1:01him boy, but it shall accomplish what God pleases, and it will
- 1:05prosper in the thing which it was sent.
- 1:09This means you can trust God's word to act on whatever it is
- 1:14that you are going through. In other words, God's promises
- 1:17always achieves its intended purposes.
- 1:20God's word will fulfill its function and bring about its
- 1:24desired outcomes. In fact, Jeremiah 112 says that
- 1:27the God says that God is actively watching over His Word
- 1:32to fulfill it. How awesome is that?
- 1:35That the Lord has already given us His promise that when we go
- 1:40to His Word, He acts on it. And in return, we are divinely
- 1:45invited to live with this contentment, knowing that no
- 1:48matter what circumstances are happening around us, as we keep
- 1:53and place our attention on Him, we can walk lighter, freer, and
- 1:58in victory that is already ours in Christ Jesus.
- 2:02So today's verse that we are going to camp out on is taken
- 2:07out of the Serenity Journal in the contentment section of this
- 2:11book. You can find the Serenity
- 2:14Journals on my website. The link is below this episode
- 2:18in the show notes and you can check it out there.
- 2:21So here we are. We are going to break down the
- 2:24burst first Peter 57 and it says cast all your cares on him
- 2:30because he cares for you. It's short just one sentence,
- 2:35but inside this one line of scripture is an ocean of truth
- 2:40that can radically change how we live.
- 2:43So many times we can pass by this verse without really
- 2:46looking at the power that holds. And my prayer each time I do
- 2:51these solos is that the Holy Spirit will give you give me a
- 2:55fresh revelation of plot and and know how to apply it to our
- 2:59lives. Specifically.
- 3:00This verse kept popping up all around me as I prepared and
- 3:04studied up on it. I sensed strongly by the Lord
- 3:08that this verse was needed more than ever to be a reminder that
- 3:12God loves us so unconditionally and wants to be in every detail
- 3:17of our lives lives. It's our job to believe and do
- 3:21what His Word says. So today I want to begin by
- 3:24going deep into the meaning, the promise, and the victory that
- 3:28comes when we truly learn to cast our cares on Jesus.
- 3:33So let's start by looking at the original Greek because it paints
- 3:38a much richer picture. I just love diving into the
- 3:42Greek words. The word cast here comes from
- 3:45the Greek epirifio. It doesn't mean to politely hand
- 3:51something over or cautiously place it down.
- 3:53It means to hurl, to fling, to throw with divisive force.
- 3:58I believe that if you're a mom of school age kids, you've seen
- 4:03your kid just hurled their backpack on the floor, or maybe
- 4:09you've thrown a frisbee and just if there's any delay in
- 4:14releasing the frisbee, it just flops.
- 4:17It doesn't go as far as you wanted it, but if you fling and
- 4:21let go of the Frisbee, it goes as far as you attended it to go.
- 4:27And that's what Peter is saying here.
- 4:28He's saying don't hold back, don't hesitate, don't clutch
- 4:32your worries with half trust. Throw them decisively on to
- 4:38Jesus. Now let's look at the word
- 4:40cares, and that comes from the Greek word marimnia, and it
- 4:46means anxieties, distractions, things that divide the mind.
- 4:52The root of this word means to be pulled apart in different
- 4:56directions. Isn't that exactly how worry
- 5:00feels? One part of your mind is
- 5:02thinking about the future, another part is stuck in the
- 5:05past. That's what anxiety does.
- 5:08It divides us. It distracts us.
- 5:11It pulls our focus away from God.
- 5:14Now notice there are two different times there's care in
- 5:19this verse. So you're probably thinking,
- 5:22well how can one mean divide of mind and the other one mean
- 5:26God's provision, His concern, taking heed or notice?
- 5:30Well, in the Greek there is another meaning of care called.
- 5:35Melo. Which translates to attention,
- 5:38concern, provision, take charge to or give care to.
- 5:43So if we were to put the Greek meaning back in this verse, it
- 5:47would sound something like this. Fling every distracting mind
- 5:52dividing anxiety onto God because He Himself is your
- 5:57provider and He is concerned and attentive to what personally
- 6:02interests you. I mean come on, is that just so
- 6:06beautiful or what? OK so now let's make it even
- 6:09more personal as we take this powerful verse and personalize
- 6:15it. So let's say I'll use my first
- 6:19name here 1st and it'll go. It will go like this.
- 6:24Jamie. Cast all your cares,
- 6:26distractions, and mind dividing worries onto me because I care
- 6:32for you. Now I want you to put your own
- 6:35name in there. Say it out loud wherever you are
- 6:39and say your name. Cast all your cares on Him.
- 6:44So you might say, Barbara, cast all your shares on him because
- 6:49He cares for you. So see, friend, this isn't just
- 6:54a verse written to the early church thousands of years ago.
- 6:58This is the living Word of God and He is speaking it to you
- 7:04right here, right now. And He wants us to fling every
- 7:08thought or circumstance that causes us to worry, fear, or
- 7:14weigh us down to Him because He's the one that provides the
- 7:18relief, the miraculous, what we see as impossible in our lives
- 7:24to making it possible through His ability, power and strength,
- 7:30His healing power, His peace and joy to live in abundantly.
- 7:36But what's required of us is attaching our faith to what He
- 7:40says He can do and who He says He is.
- 7:44So let's hook up our faith and believe and confess it out of
- 7:48our mouths. That what we just spoke, He will
- 7:52care for us, That what concerns us, He will act on His every
- 7:58word. So part of what's inside this
- 8:03beautiful journal, Serenity, is a place to pause and ask, what
- 8:09does this verse reveal about God's character?
- 8:13And I list a bunch of God's attributes and his
- 8:17characteristic traits. But some of the things I see
- 8:20here is God is caring. He doesn't just tolerate our
- 8:24burdens, He desires to take them.
- 8:26His care for us is not abstract, it's not idea, it's intimate,
- 8:31and it's personal. God is strong.
- 8:35Another characteristic trait I see is that He invites us to
- 8:39throw our cares on Him. It's because His power and
- 8:42strength was built to handle what's going on with us.
- 8:46He's God we are not, and is He? That is the miracle worker and
- 8:51the waymaker. Another one I saw was that God
- 8:55is attentive. He pays attention to our
- 8:57desires. The verse doesn't just say he
- 9:00cares for humanity in a general sense, it says He cares for you.
- 9:05He cares for Amy, Jamie, Barbara.
- 9:08He notices, He leans in. He knows your thoughts before
- 9:12you speak them and your tears before they fall.
- 9:16This means your concerns don't repel God, they draw him near.
- 9:21James, 48, says. As we draw near to him, he draws
- 9:25near to us. And I know I'm picking the name
- 9:29Barbara a lot here. So I just hope there's somebody
- 9:32listening here named Barbara that needs to hear this right
- 9:34now. OK, so application, how do we
- 9:38cast our cares? How do we live this out
- 9:41practically? Name it and cast it.
- 9:44Don't just say God. Take my worries.
- 9:47Be specific. Say Lord.
- 9:49I cast my fear of blah blah blah.
- 9:52I cast my fear of rejection. I cast my anxiety about
- 9:57tomorrow's appointment. I cast the weight of my
- 10:00children's future. Visualize the throw when you do
- 10:04this. Sometimes I literally stretch
- 10:07out my hands in prayer and make a throwing motion just to remind
- 10:11myself that I am brewing this on to him.
- 10:14And once you've thrown it, don't pick it back up.
- 10:18Imagine yourself throwing something so far that you're not
- 10:22even going to bother going and picking that up.
- 10:25When you go and skip rocks in an ocean, do you go and pick up
- 10:29that rock in the ocean? So just visualize yourself
- 10:33throwing a rock in the ocean. You can't just go and pick it
- 10:38back up. So replace with truth.
- 10:43Every time that negative thought tries to creep back in, replace
- 10:47it with God's promises. Say God cares for me.
- 10:50He has not abandoned me, He is faithful.
- 10:54This is not a one time action, it's a rhythm.
- 10:59It can be something that we may need hourly, even not just
- 11:04daily. But each time your faith grows,
- 11:07your peace deepens, and your heart becomes steadier.
- 11:11So a little personal story here. Lately I've felt extremely
- 11:16distracted, divided, pulled apart, just not focused.
- 11:22And then it dawned on me that I need to cast overwhelm on to Him
- 11:27and trust that He will guide me out and give me focused energy
- 11:33and not feel split into all different directions because if
- 11:38you're like me, I just get frozen.
- 11:40I become not productive or proactive.
- 11:44So when I acknowledged what was going on, He met me right there
- 11:49and sent me to specific scripture and a sermon by a
- 11:53pastor that I know to really, really help me sort out what was
- 11:58really going on with me. But what's great about God is
- 12:01that He always shows us the way. He will always encourage our
- 12:05hearts. And it keeps reminding me of
- 12:08this truth that you are not called to carry, you are called
- 12:12to cast. Each time I stop, pray and say
- 12:16it out loud, Lord, I cast this on to You.
- 12:20I can literally feel the weight lift.
- 12:23And every single time His peace washes over me.
- 12:27It's not because I figured it out.
- 12:30It's because I attached my faith to His Word and I let go.
- 12:35I surrendered and trusted the One who who already has the
- 12:40outcome in His hands. So let's declare it in victory.
- 12:45I will not carry what was never mind to hold.
- 12:48I will cast it on to Jesus because He cares for me.
- 12:54So, friend, the enemy wants you heavy, distracted, divided, and
- 13:00anxious, but your heavenly Father wants you light, free,
- 13:04and living in the victory that is already ours by Christ Jesus.
- 13:09The invitation of First Peter 57 is an invitation into freedom.
- 13:15Exchange your concerns for His peace, your fear for His love,
- 13:21your weariness for His strength, your confusion for the renewal
- 13:25of your mind and His Word. So today, let's not carry what
- 13:31was never ours. Let's hurl it onto the shoulders
- 13:35of the One who loves us and let's walk light, freer and
- 13:40stronger in His name. So I hope you found this
- 13:45encouraging. If you did, I would love for you
- 13:48to share this episode to a loved one and shoot me some comments
- 13:54and let me know how this is encouraging you.
- 13:58Until next time, God bless you, friend.
