Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: All right, well, we didn't do a Sling TV Sunday
- 0:10Speaker 1: on a Sunday, but this is your Sling TV Sunday recap,
- 0:14Speaker 1: and I have a very special guest, Lou Terminello. Terminello's
- 0:17Speaker 1: take on the Sling TV Sunday recap, because for the
- 0:22Speaker 1: first time, I believe, since 2009, the Giants and Jets
- 0:26Speaker 1: have won on the same week one game. I mean, 16,
- 0:31Speaker 1: 17 years later, and Louis T, first of all, the
- 0:36Speaker 1: Jets win, fluke or not? I know it's Tennessee. I
- 0:39Speaker 1: know it's Salah's first game as head coach, and of
- 0:41Speaker 1: course he wanted to kick their asses. That didn't happen.
- 0:44Speaker 2: So Jets win, affirmative or a fluke?
- 0:48Speaker 1: What are you thinking here?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Well, Alex, thanks for having me as always. Quick thing,
- 0:53Speaker 3: it's hard to believe that this is the first time
- 0:56Speaker 3: the Jets and Giants both won on opening day. since
- 1:00Speaker 3: 2009 that is an amazingly bad statistic that that is
- 1:05Speaker 3: incredible it's been that long um number two no the
- 1:09Speaker 3: jet win wasn't a fluke um road game there were
- 1:14Speaker 3: they were uh a slight underdog uh two points or
- 1:18Speaker 3: a point and a half on the dog they look
- 1:21Speaker 3: you know i told you my what my goals are
- 1:24Speaker 3: for them of course i would like to win every
- 1:25Speaker 3: game they don't have the talent to win every game
- 1:29Speaker 3: They play a tough schedule. I don't know if they're
- 1:31Speaker 3: going to win any of their next three games against
- 1:34Speaker 3: the Packers at home, at Detroit, at Chicago. But you're
- 1:38Speaker 3: looking for the Jets to be watchable, to be professional,
- 1:42Speaker 3: to look like they know what they're doing on the field,
- 1:46Speaker 3: that the coaches know what they're doing. And I think
- 1:49Speaker 3: we saw that yesterday. They were professional. They didn't have
- 1:56Speaker 3: any glaring... screw-ups on the field as far as clock management,
- 2:02Speaker 3: down in distance. The right hand didn't know what the
- 2:05Speaker 3: left hand was doing. They looked like a professional football team.
- 2:08Speaker 3: And Frank Reich, as the new offensive coordinator, made a difference.
- 2:15Speaker 3: That first drive, he had a Tennessee off-balance, you know,
- 2:19Speaker 3: using Sadiq on that touchdown run. We didn't see that
- 2:24Speaker 3: last year. And the Jets do have some talent. I
- 2:27Speaker 3: don't know how deep a team they are. But Aaron
- 2:33Speaker 3: Glenn is coaching to save his job. There's no doubt
- 2:37Speaker 3: about it. And we know it's all about 27 when
- 2:41Speaker 3: $ 100 million comes off the dead cap space opens up
- 2:46Speaker 3: and they'll have the three picks. Now, again, I'm sick
- 2:49Speaker 3: of waiting. as a lifelong Jet fan. I don't think
- 2:52Speaker 3: yesterday was a fluke at all. But again, I'm going
- 2:56Speaker 3: to be realistic. Six wins, seven, maybe they'll beat somebody
- 3:03Speaker 3: that we don't expect them to beat on their schedule.
- 3:06Speaker 3: You know, they play the AFC West and the NFC North,
- 3:11Speaker 3: which is probably two best divisions in football. You know,
- 3:16Speaker 3: so try to find the win out of those eight games.
- 3:19Speaker 3: It's going to be tough. Um, but did I, did
- 3:22Speaker 3: I like what I saw yesterday? Yeah, I did.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I did.
- 3:25Speaker 3: I mean, Gino Smith is definitely going to, is definitely
- 3:28Speaker 3: a very good stop, stop gap quarterback until whoever they
- 3:33Speaker 3: draft next year. Maybe I'll draft two quarterbacks.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Well, he's definitely a more mature guy and we saw
- 3:38Speaker 1: that even in preseason.
- 3:40Speaker 2: So yeah.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:41Speaker 3: No. And he can still fling that football. I mean,
- 3:43Speaker 3: he has a strong arm. He can, he can, he
- 3:46Speaker 3: could throw in, he could be a window thrower as
- 3:48Speaker 3: they say. And, uh, you know, there's so many college
- 3:53Speaker 3: quarterbacks who are, we're going to see this college football
- 3:57Speaker 3: season and just got, just got pick one, pick two.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Like I said, I don't care. I would pick two
- 4:05Speaker 3: in the first couple of rounds. That's how important this,
- 4:08Speaker 3: they got to get it right. There's a lot of
- 4:12Speaker 3: potential good quarterbacks out there. I can't remember a year
- 4:17Speaker 3: at the level below the NFL, which, the NFL, which
- 4:20Speaker 3: college football really is NFL too, that they'll have a
- 4:25Speaker 3: chance to pick from. But yes, I was optimistic yesterday.
- 4:28Speaker 3: The offensive line was good. It was physical. They rushed
- 4:33Speaker 3: for over 160 yards. Brees Hall had 102. I like
- 4:39Speaker 3: what I saw. I did. I mean, I have no
- 4:43Speaker 3: one to sound like a Jet fan who's going to
- 4:47Speaker 3: be complaining about everything because that wouldn't be fair. I
- 4:50Speaker 3: like what I saw. I did.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Well, I like your score. I was sort of all
- 4:55Speaker 1: over the place yesterday with the U.S. Open, with the Yankees. Look,
- 4:59Speaker 1: I know it's week one and people want to make
- 5:00Speaker 1: a big deal about it, but we're still in fall
- 5:04Speaker 1: baseball mode now. I mean, the Yanks needed that win
- 5:06Speaker 1: yesterday against the Mets, so I was kind of focused
- 5:09Speaker 1: on that a lot. And then, of course, the Giants
- 5:12Speaker 1: last night. But I love those kind of Sundays where
- 5:15Speaker 1: there's just everything going on. And I want to add,
- 5:18Speaker 1: the Bills also won. So it was the first time,
- 5:20Speaker 1: I don't know since when, that all three New York-centric
- 5:23Speaker 1: teams won on the same day in week one.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Yeah, that's good. I have no idea when the last
- 5:31Speaker 3: time the Bills and the Giants won.
- 5:32Speaker 1: I've been trying to figure out when the last time
- 5:34Speaker 1: the Giants won a meaningful game against the Cowboys on
- 5:37Speaker 1: prime time. It's been a long time, and sometimes I
- 5:40Speaker 1: think It dates back all the way to when they
- 5:43Speaker 1: beat them in the postseason on the way to the championship. So,
- 5:47Speaker 1: you know, it's been around.
- 5:49Speaker 3: It could be that long, my friend. It could be.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And that's about 20, almost 20 years, which is just
- 5:56Speaker 1: crazy to think about.
- 5:57Speaker 2: But, you know, overall, and then, of course, my dad's team,
- 6:00Speaker 2: the Bears.
- 6:01Speaker 1: DJ Moore, who I think was, you know, well, DJ
- 6:07Speaker 1: Moore is the former Bear, right? He went to the Bills.
- 6:11Speaker 1: But Swift making the most of his contract now, looking
- 6:14Speaker 1: like the guy they signed, made the right move there.
- 6:16Speaker 1: And I love DeAndre Swift. I think he's going to
- 6:18Speaker 1: be the future and this running back they have.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Caleb's in good hands, not just himself, but around him too.
- 6:24Speaker 3: You know, the Bears have a very good team and
- 6:26Speaker 3: they have a very good coach. They can win that division, obviously.
- 6:33Speaker 3: But getting back to last night, that was a complete
- 6:37Speaker 3: victory by the, by the giants. And I'm not a
- 6:41Speaker 3: giant fan, not even a little bit. Uh, but the
- 6:44Speaker 3: giants were the better team by far last night. Uh, they,
- 6:47Speaker 3: they were dominating offensively and defensively on the line. They're
- 6:52Speaker 3: big and they're physical. The giants are bigger than I
- 6:54Speaker 3: thought physically. Um, they control the clock. Same as the
- 7:00Speaker 3: jets did in the afternoon. Uh, they control the clock
- 7:03Speaker 3: and the time of possession, uh, I think the Giants
- 7:06Speaker 3: had 12 or 13-minute advantage there. They kept the Dallas
- 7:10Speaker 3: offense off the field. Dart, I thought, played his best
- 7:14Speaker 3: game as a pro last night. I thought it was
- 7:17Speaker 3: his best game. He was outstanding. Likely was outstanding, even
- 7:24Speaker 3: though the Dallas secondary was pathetic. We're still not going
- 7:28Speaker 3: to knock Likely's What was it, eight catches for 70
- 7:32Speaker 3: yards or seven catches for 80 yards?
- 7:34Speaker 1: That's the first time they caught the ball. And then also,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you know, unlike last year when they literally collapsed on
- 7:41Speaker 1: the Cowboys twice. I mean, it was bad. They held
- 7:44Speaker 1: them this time. And that's really the difference that I
- 7:47Speaker 1: wanted to see. I was never concerned about the offense,
- 7:52Speaker 1: believe me, believe it or not. Because I thought we
- 7:54Speaker 1: had it last year, too.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I agree with you. I agree with you on that.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I thought the Giant offense was okay last year.
- 8:02Speaker 1: My goodness, they put up 33 points or whatever, 26
- 8:04Speaker 1: on the Broncos, only to give it up 33 points
- 8:07Speaker 1: in two quarters.
- 8:09Speaker 2: So the defense needed to be improved.
- 8:11Speaker 1: And we all learned last year you can actually fire
- 8:14Speaker 1: a defensive coordinator, which I didn't know you can do
- 8:16Speaker 1: as head coach. But anyway, looks like Harbaugh got that
- 8:18Speaker 1: in tip-top shape. I do want to see more from
- 8:21Speaker 1: Brian Burns. You know why? Because he's like second team.
- 8:25Speaker 2: He's been highly ranked.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I think he's like 14th ranked or something like that.
- 8:28Speaker 1: I mean, there's a lot of expectations on the guy.
- 8:30Speaker 1: And I still saw him having a bit of a
- 8:33Speaker 1: gap there in some of it. But, hey, they held him.
- 8:36Speaker 1: And that's the most important thing on opening night is
- 8:38Speaker 1: you want to hold it. The rest will fall into place.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Well, Scalaboo was outstanding. And coaching made a difference. Offensive coordinator,
- 8:47Speaker 3: Mike Nagy. Called a great game. Harbaugh had his team ready.
- 8:52Speaker 3: He did, unlike his brother in Los Angeles. We'll get
- 8:57Speaker 3: to his brother in a minute. But, yeah, no, Harbaugh
- 9:02Speaker 3: had his team ready. They were at home. They won
- 9:06Speaker 3: seven games the last two years combined. If they don't
- 9:09Speaker 3: win more than seven this year, I would be surprised.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And about Matt Nagy, you know, I remember him failing
- 9:16Speaker 1: as the Bears head coach, and now he's did that
- 9:19Speaker 1: last night, you know?
- 9:20Speaker 3: Yeah, and I wouldn't have minded if he had become
- 9:23Speaker 3: the Jets head coach when they hired Glenn. Of course,
- 9:26Speaker 3: I think the Jets interviewed Matt Nagy to be their
- 9:30Speaker 3: head coach. He did a great— he called a great game
- 9:33Speaker 3: last night. Now, yeah, so that was— That was a
- 9:41Speaker 3: complete victory. They were the better team by far.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Loss aside for the Rams, right, who the Giants play next.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Loss aside for the Rams. It was in Australia, so
- 9:51Speaker 1: they got to travel back. Then they have another week.
- 9:53Speaker 1: I mean, the Giants actually should be favored based on
- 9:56Speaker 1: the travel alone that the Rams had to do to
- 9:58Speaker 1: get to Australia. They lose.
- 10:00Speaker 2: By 20 points.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Now they come back. They have a week off.
- 10:03Speaker 2: It throws a team off, I would say, with all
- 10:06Speaker 2: this kind of.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Well, I'm not a science guy. Nobody will ever confuse
- 10:13Speaker 3: me for a scientist. But some... scientists said coming back
- 10:19Speaker 3: from Australia to the mainland of the United States, it
- 10:23Speaker 3: takes five or six days for your body clock to
- 10:26Speaker 3: get adjusted back. If, if that's the case, I don't
- 10:31Speaker 3: know if that's true or not, but we'll see. Monday
- 10:34Speaker 3: night is a must win. Yes, I know it's only
- 10:37Speaker 3: the second game. It's a must win for the Rams. Um,
- 10:43Speaker 3: in one sense, Joe, Just to get them back.
- 10:50Speaker 1: On the.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Tracks that they were Super Bowl favorite. Alex. I mean,
- 10:57Speaker 3: they got their tails kicked in in Melbourne on Thursday.
- 11:03Speaker 1: You know what I've always said. Brock Purdy healthy is
- 11:05Speaker 1: a dangerous threat. And I do believe that. And even
- 11:07Speaker 1: Kurt Warner says, you know, Purdy is the best. I mean,
- 11:11Speaker 1: you're getting praise from a Hall of Fame quarterback and
- 11:13Speaker 1: Kurt Warner. You're the real deal. And I always say,
- 11:17Speaker 1: If he was not injured in that game against the Eagles,
- 11:20Speaker 1: they would have won the Super Bowl that year, too.
- 11:23Speaker 1: That's how good he is.
- 11:26Speaker 3: You're right. I'm not saying that they would have won
- 11:28Speaker 3: the game, but they definitely had a chance to win
- 11:30Speaker 3: the game. There's no doubt about it.
- 11:33Speaker 1: That was his rookie year. That was really impressive, his
- 11:36Speaker 1: first year. I think now he's developed and I actually
- 11:41Speaker 1: think a lot of the problems last year for the
- 11:42Speaker 1: Niners were defensive. Didn't they give up a lot of points?
- 11:44Speaker 1: I mean, they put points.
- 11:46Speaker 3: And they had a lot of, you know, they lost both.
- 11:47Speaker 3: So they lost Fred Warner. I mean, those are two
- 11:51Speaker 3: fantastic defensive players. And, you know, it's hard to, to
- 11:58Speaker 3: overcome those losses. Yes. We know everybody has injuries, but
- 12:01Speaker 3: there's some injuries that you can overcome and others that,
- 12:04Speaker 3: that you can't. I think, and they're coached by, by Shanahan,
- 12:09Speaker 3: who's great. And I think, uh, I guess, uh, the
- 12:13Speaker 3: Niners have given him an extension. So my hopes of
- 12:15Speaker 3: him being available for, uh, uh, for the green and white, uh,
- 12:20Speaker 3: next year or down the drain for my Jetsies, but, uh,
- 12:23Speaker 3: he's a hell of a coach. I think he's the
- 12:26Speaker 3: best coach in the NFL. And, um, He did a
- 12:30Speaker 3: great job getting them ready. And they got there five,
- 12:33Speaker 3: six days before. The Rams got there 27 hours before kickoff.
- 12:37Speaker 3: That was a huge mistake, in my opinion.
- 12:39Speaker 1: And now is that a coaching decision or is that
- 12:42Speaker 1: a team decision? I don't even know where that blame was.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Well, I assume that it was. a coaching decision and
- 12:48Speaker 3: a football operations decision. I don't think they asked the players.
- 12:53Speaker 3: If they relied on the players to make that decision,
- 12:57Speaker 3: shame on McVay and football operations. Because that's it. You know,
- 13:06Speaker 3: 27 hours before kickoff. It's not like you're going from
- 13:09Speaker 3: New York to... To L.A.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Stafford's on a spring chicken, so he probably had to
- 13:15Speaker 1: adjust to that timing, too. But 27-7 was that. And,
- 13:20Speaker 1: of course, I don't know when Wednesday night became a thing.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I guess recently. I remember the Giants opened up on
- 13:28Speaker 1: Wednesday night against the Cowboys after winning the Super Bowl.
- 13:30Speaker 1: In 11-12, they opened up the 12-13 at MetLife. On
- 13:38Speaker 1: a Wednesday night. I remember that very vividly because I
- 13:41Speaker 1: was interning at Dow Global Sports at the time. Anyway, I.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Say all that to say a Wednesday night game.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I don't know. It just doesn't sit right with me.
- 13:48Speaker 1: It doesn't make sense.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Well, they did that because of the time difference with Melbourne.
- 13:54Speaker 3: So they didn't want to have it the next day.
- 13:57Speaker 3: So basically, when we were watching that game on Thursday night,
- 14:02Speaker 3: it was Friday at 1230. No, excuse me, at 10.30
- 14:11Speaker 3: Melbourne time, that game kicked off. So, you know, I
- 14:17Speaker 3: don't think you're going to see that next year, unless
- 14:18Speaker 3: there's another game in New Zealand or in Australia.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Anyway, the Pats had a big loss. I mean, look,
- 14:24Speaker 1: they just lost a newcomer, A.J. Brown, for what, six weeks,
- 14:29Speaker 1: I think? It's just what a mess. What a mess
- 14:32Speaker 1: for that start to the season. What other notables did
- 14:36Speaker 1: you have, though, that you want to bring to our
- 14:37Speaker 1: attention this week on Terminal Mistake?
- 14:40Speaker 3: The best player in National Football League is still... It's
- 14:45Speaker 3: not Mahomes. He's right there. But the best player in
- 14:48Speaker 3: National Football League is Josh Allen. The bills depend on
- 14:53Speaker 3: him way too much. If he gets hurt, they are
- 14:56Speaker 3: done as done could be. He was Superman again yesterday
- 15:00Speaker 3: against a great, great, great defense. He rang up 37
- 15:05Speaker 3: points on them, including that winning touchdown to Palmer in
- 15:09Speaker 3: the last minute of the game. He's the best player
- 15:12Speaker 3: in the league right now. And he's the most indispensable
- 15:17Speaker 3: player in the league. They cannot lose him. They lose him,
- 15:21Speaker 3: they're done. The other thing that really caught my eye
- 15:24Speaker 3: on the negative side was how bad the Los Angeles
- 15:29Speaker 3: Chargers were. Losing two at home. losing to the Arizona
- 15:34Speaker 3: Cardinals 26-14. They had a punt block. They were terrible.
- 15:40Speaker 3: They allowed Jacoby Brissett, who's a very capable NFL backup,
- 15:46Speaker 3: I mean, look like a first-team All-Pro. This is John
- 15:53Speaker 3: Horvath's third year, Jim Horvath's third year. He came, you know,
- 15:56Speaker 3: after he won the championship at Michigan. He really I'm surprised.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I thought the charges were going to take it to
- 16:04Speaker 3: the next level almost immediately with Jim Harbaugh there. They haven't.
- 16:10Speaker 3: And as a matter of fact, they might have even
- 16:12Speaker 3: taken a tiny step backwards. I don't think I don't
- 16:16Speaker 3: think Herbert's as good as he was before. since Harbaugh
- 16:22Speaker 3: got there. Harbaugh hasn't helped him in any way so far.
- 16:26Speaker 1: I remember he came in because of that whole collapse
- 16:28Speaker 1: with Jacksonville and all that.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:33Speaker 3: So that was a terrible loss to the Arizona Cardinals
- 16:37Speaker 3: who will be drafting in the top five in all likelihood.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Speaking of the Cardinals, their former quarterback goes down yesterday,
- 16:44Speaker 1: Kyler Murray. And then, of course, Carson Wentz steps in
- 16:47Speaker 1: and beats the Vikings. I mean... Uh, I'm always happy
- 16:51Speaker 1: for Wentz. I still think that was such a raw
- 16:54Speaker 1: deal in a way he gets injured in week 15
- 16:56Speaker 1: of that season. And the Nick Foles comes in, Foles
- 16:59Speaker 1: is an incredible job for the Eagles the rest of
- 17:00Speaker 1: the way, but you know, Wentz's time needs to come because,
- 17:04Speaker 1: you know, he's getting older now, but I've always thought,
- 17:06Speaker 1: I've always respected him as a quarterback. And then yesterday
- 17:08Speaker 1: he beats the Packers. So how about that?
- 17:12Speaker 3: Well, three touchdown passes, uh, the Packers were dominating them
- 17:16Speaker 3: early and, uh, the Vikings took over the game. And,
- 17:25Speaker 3: you know, you got to have a quarterback who knows
- 17:30Speaker 3: the playbook. You got to have a quarterback that is
- 17:34Speaker 3: in sync with the coach. Doesn't have to be a
- 17:36Speaker 3: great quarterback. And obviously, Wentz isn't a great quarterback anymore.
- 17:40Speaker 3: And the year that you just referred to, when he
- 17:42Speaker 3: got injured, he was going to be MVP that year.
- 17:45Speaker 3: And he did a great job. The Vikings... they have
- 17:50Speaker 3: a good team. I mean, if they get competent quarterback play,
- 17:54Speaker 3: they have a chance to be a playoff team and
- 17:58Speaker 3: maybe even win that division. And as we said, that
- 18:00Speaker 3: division is very, very tough. All right.
- 18:02Speaker 1: The four o'clock games are kind of, besides the Chargers,
- 18:06Speaker 1: the Dolphins Raiders, I didn't really care about that one
- 18:10Speaker 1: because I'm like, all right, well, I'll go. But I
- 18:12Speaker 1: see the Raiders won, so that was a big deal.
- 18:14Speaker 1: But I want to go to this other game, which
- 18:15Speaker 1: I thought was fascinating because the Saints and Lions are,
- 18:18Speaker 1: They go.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Under the two-minute warning in overtime. That's how close it was.
- 18:24Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 18:25Speaker 1: If I'm the Lions fan, though, I'm concerned having to
- 18:28Speaker 1: be taken all the way down to nearly under two
- 18:32Speaker 1: minutes in overtime against a Saints team I didn't expect
- 18:35Speaker 1: much from. Am I wrong to be worried about that
- 18:37Speaker 1: if I'm a Lions fan?
- 18:39Speaker 3: I think the Saints are better than you're giving them credit.
- 18:44Speaker 3: I like uh, Kellen Moore. I think he made a
- 18:47Speaker 3: terrible decision when they tied up, uh, late in overtime
- 18:52Speaker 3: by not going for a single point, going for the
- 18:54Speaker 3: two point conversion. I would not have done that. And
- 18:56Speaker 3: the play that they called was terrible. I don't know
- 18:59Speaker 3: if that was the play they called or the play
- 19:01Speaker 3: broke down and they just were, uh, they just were
- 19:04Speaker 3: trying to salvage the play. I would always go for the,
- 19:08Speaker 3: the tie. And, uh, again, maybe you get the ball back.
- 19:14Speaker 3: I know there was less than two minutes to go,
- 19:15Speaker 3: but I would not have gone to DuPont conversion. Tyler
- 19:20Speaker 3: Schluck is pretty good. You know, he's a little older
- 19:27Speaker 3: when he came out of Louisville. I like Chuck. And
- 19:34Speaker 3: they're pretty good, Alex. They could win that division. But
- 19:37Speaker 3: everybody in the NFC South yesterday lost. Tampa lost. Carolina
- 19:43Speaker 3: lost Atlanta lost New Orleans lost so they're all equal
- 19:49Speaker 3: and they didn't play each other, so obviously we're all losing.
- 19:53Speaker 3: So really, yesterday was just a week off the calendar,
- 19:57Speaker 3: but doesn't hurt any of the teams in that quote-unquote race.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Again, that was pretty close because I saw most of it.
- 20:04Speaker 1: The Eagles kept the... The Commanders kept themselves in it,
- 20:07Speaker 1: and then the Eagles just won I believe it was
- 20:09Speaker 1: a failed two-point conversion on the commander's part. That is correct.
- 20:14Speaker 3: And something happened in that game. It also happened in
- 20:16Speaker 3: the Giant game last night. When Williams scored to make
- 20:22Speaker 3: it 28-20 and got called for taunting, pushing, even though
- 20:30Speaker 3: Aubrey is a fantastic kicker, pushed him back for a
- 20:34Speaker 3: 48-yard extra point, which he missed wide right. So if
- 20:38Speaker 3: Dallas got the ball back, which they didn't, and did score,
- 20:42Speaker 3: they would have had to go for the lower percentage
- 20:45Speaker 3: two-point conversion instead of the single point. In the Eagles
- 20:49Speaker 3: game with the Commanders, it was 17-9. I want to
- 20:55Speaker 3: say about seven minutes to go. I might be off
- 20:58Speaker 3: 30 seconds or a minute on that. You know, you're
- 21:00Speaker 3: watching all these games at once. They scored to make
- 21:03Speaker 3: it 17-15. They were losing 17 to nine. And again,
- 21:09Speaker 3: and now I can't think of the person who scored
- 21:11Speaker 3: the touchdown. He got called for taunting. So they couldn't go. They,
- 21:17Speaker 3: they kicked a single point from, they got the 48
- 21:21Speaker 3: yard single point instead of going for the two point
- 21:23Speaker 3: conversion because of the penalty pushed them back. So these
- 21:28Speaker 3: guys just have to be smarter. Really? You don't, you don't,
- 21:32Speaker 3: you don't need to taunt. You don't need to do
- 21:33Speaker 3: any of that stuff.
- 21:35Speaker 1: All right, I want to get to two more things
- 21:37Speaker 1: in football, and then we'll move on to what happened
- 21:40Speaker 1: in Flushing yesterday because I really was hoping for Ben Shelton.
- 21:43Speaker 1: It just played a gritty match against Zverev, but I
- 21:46Speaker 1: think Zverev finally locked in at one point and just said,
- 21:48Speaker 1: I'm going to knock this guy out. But the two
- 21:53Speaker 1: points I want to make is I see the Giants
- 21:55Speaker 1: had 10 penalties. Now, you know me. I'm a big
- 21:57Speaker 1: discipline guy. I'm like, all right, does the penalties signify
- 22:01Speaker 1: any discipline? Harbaugh's the guy that teaches discipline, so I'm
- 22:04Speaker 1: a little surprised. I had 10 penalties in the first game.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Should I be surprised by that or not really?
- 22:10Speaker 3: Well, again, it's game one. These guys don't have the
- 22:14Speaker 3: reps in preseason like they used to because they're more
- 22:18Speaker 3: fearful of injury now, unlike back in the olden days.
- 22:22Speaker 3: I wouldn't worry about that. I wouldn't worry about that. Now, again,
- 22:28Speaker 3: remember the Giants did have some good fortune last night too,
- 22:31Speaker 3: but that doesn't take away from their complete win. They
- 22:34Speaker 3: fumbled four times, but they only lost one fumble. They
- 22:38Speaker 3: were able to jump on the other three. Sometimes the
- 22:41Speaker 3: way that Pixton bounces goes in your favor. Um, but again,
- 22:50Speaker 3: after winning seven games combined the last two years, I think, uh,
- 22:56Speaker 3: complaining about Ted penalties is a little bit nitpicking in
- 23:00Speaker 3: my opinion.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Oh yeah. I mean, I'm just happy they won in
- 23:02Speaker 1: prime time, but like, I think you're, they'll straighten up
- 23:06Speaker 1: that little thing there.
- 23:08Speaker 3: I do. I think so.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Now the other big story, that other big story of
- 23:13Speaker 1: the weekend has to be related to the giants. Cause
- 23:17Speaker 1: if Eli Manning, his nephew, Arch, Archie Manning, we've been
- 23:22Speaker 1: waiting for this for three years. for him to have
- 23:25Speaker 1: that breakout game, and he finally has it against Ohio
- 23:28Speaker 1: State in prime time. This is why I love sports, Louie.
- 23:31Speaker 1: That comeback alone is why I love sports, because you
- 23:33Speaker 1: just never know. 21 unanswered points for Texas, and that
- 23:38Speaker 1: was his moment.
- 23:39Speaker 2: That's his keystone moment as.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Of right now that we were all waiting for. I'm
- 23:42Speaker 1: sure you were waiting for it, too, because the kid's
- 23:44Speaker 1: been hyped up for three years.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Well, yeah, absolutely. I mean, I think if he had
- 23:49Speaker 3: come out last year, even though Mendoza had the great,
- 23:53Speaker 3: great Heisman Trophy year, national champion and all that. If
- 23:58Speaker 3: my team was picking number one, I would still pick
- 24:02Speaker 3: Arch Manning last year number one. I think we've just
- 24:06Speaker 3: seen the tip of the iceberg of how good this
- 24:07Speaker 3: guy is going to be. And Alex, like I said
- 24:09Speaker 3: a couple of minutes ago, there's a lot of great quarterbacks,
- 24:12Speaker 3: potentially great quarterbacks at the college level right now. But
- 24:17Speaker 3: that might have been his signature moment the other night.
- 24:19Speaker 3: I mean, because... For the first two and a half quarters, well,
- 24:23Speaker 3: first three quarters, because they scored all 21 points in
- 24:25Speaker 3: the fourth quarter, especially in the first half, Ohio State,
- 24:30Speaker 3: excuse me, was kicking the Longhorns' butt. And then they
- 24:36Speaker 3: couldn't stop them in the fourth quarter.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Now, honestly, I don't care about rankings right now. It's
- 24:40Speaker 1: too early in the year.
- 24:41Speaker 3: I don't either.
- 24:42Speaker 1: I agree. But the fact that they had unseeded Ohio
- 24:48Speaker 1: State is very interesting. So I'll leave it at that.
- 24:50Speaker 1: for now. And now one of the, one other thing
- 24:53Speaker 1: I would say is, um, the other weekend games, another
- 24:56Speaker 1: week where I was just, I didn't feel like there
- 24:58Speaker 1: was a lot of competition. I mean, Notre Dame over rice, uh,
- 25:03Speaker 1: LSU was close with Louisiana tech for a while. There
- 25:06Speaker 1: were these other games that were close, but we knew
- 25:08Speaker 1: they weren't going to end up in upsets in my.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Well, the only upset, the major upset was the, uh, Oregon,
- 25:14Speaker 3: Oklahoma state game. Yes. You know, Oklahoma state was, I
- 25:18Speaker 3: had lost 12 in a row. Was it, was a
- 25:20Speaker 3: more than three touchdown underdog, and they had lost to
- 25:24Speaker 3: Oregon last year 69-3, and they put 39 points on
- 25:30Speaker 3: the Oregon defense, won 39-31, and now we have to
- 25:35Speaker 3: mention some questions about Oregon, who just got by Boise State,
- 25:40Speaker 3: and one or two things in that game at Boise
- 25:42Speaker 3: State might do differently, especially at the end of that
- 25:44Speaker 3: first half, when they didn't play the clock right and
- 25:48Speaker 3: cost them seven points. um, Oregon might be Owen too.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Right.
- 25:54Speaker 3: So they, you really got to look to see if,
- 25:58Speaker 3: how Oregon is going to handle the rest of the season.
- 26:01Speaker 3: And if they even have a chance after Saturday.
- 26:04Speaker 1: You, uh, get back in the, uh, now when you're
- 26:08Speaker 1: in Rutgers, they lose to BC and BC is not
- 26:11Speaker 1: supposed to be good. They're never really that good. So
- 26:14Speaker 1: that was a little bit of a surprise. And look,
- 26:16Speaker 1: I met Greg Shiano. I loved him in the big East.
- 26:19Speaker 1: We all know the Big Ten is such a big challenge,
- 26:21Speaker 1: and I even think that's the case for Oregon, because
- 26:23Speaker 1: Oregon breezed in that first year in the Big Ten,
- 26:28Speaker 1: and it's still amazing how that happened, by the way.
- 26:31Speaker 2: But it could be catching up to them now.
- 26:33Speaker 1: We'll have to see. But with Rutgers, moving to the
- 26:36Speaker 1: Big Ten has always felt awkward to me. It doesn't
- 26:41Speaker 1: feel like they're a good mesh. What do you think?
- 26:46Speaker 3: Well, if Oregon, USC, UCLA.
- 26:49Speaker 3: Washington are in the Big Ten. Nebraska, which used to
- 26:54Speaker 3: be in the Big 12. I have no problem. I
- 26:59Speaker 3: don't think it's awkward. I just think that they have
- 27:01Speaker 3: to get better. I like Shano as a coach. I
- 27:03Speaker 3: think he's a very good coach. But I think it's
- 27:06Speaker 3: time for a change. And I think there will be
- 27:09Speaker 3: a change.
- 27:10Speaker 1: They probably brought him back because he was a.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Big hero for a pick.
- 27:16Speaker 3: They should have never let him go in the first place.
- 27:19Speaker 3: that was a mistake. Those seven years between Shiano era
- 27:23Speaker 3: one and Shiano era two, those seven or eight years
- 27:28Speaker 3: of indecision with coaches and having poor coaches like Flood
- 27:37Speaker 3: and Ash, people like that, that really hurt Rutgers in
- 27:44Speaker 3: their early days in the Big Ten. If you had
- 27:46Speaker 3: if they had the continuity with Shiano, I think it
- 27:48Speaker 3: would have been a little bit different, but in my opinion,
- 27:51Speaker 3: and I, you know, I don't like to say coaches
- 27:55Speaker 3: deserve to be fired. I do think Rutgers needs to
- 27:58Speaker 3: make a change at the, at the head coaching position
- 28:00Speaker 3: for the football program.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Well, I have to see the other big 10 game
- 28:04Speaker 1: I was focused on because my dad was a born
- 28:07Speaker 1: in Oklahoma. So he was a sooner right by birth.
- 28:12Speaker 1: It's clear that, John Mateer got intercepted, but, you know,
- 28:15Speaker 1: he got injured last year, and people don't really talk
- 28:17Speaker 1: about that as much. Maybe that injury is still affecting him,
- 28:19Speaker 1: and I have to believe that's the case here, because
- 28:22Speaker 1: when you ask me in the beginning of the year,
- 28:24Speaker 1: with all the turmoil Michigan's been going through, and they're
- 28:26Speaker 1: still going through it, how can they be 2-0?
- 28:30Speaker 2: I'm surprised by that, Louie. I did not expect that.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Well, let's face it. They should have lost to Western Michigan.
- 28:38Speaker 3: I thought they were going to lose to Oklahoma on Saturday.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Their defense played okay. You know, Mateo made a couple
- 28:46Speaker 3: of mistakes. I like him as a quarterback. For some reason,
- 28:50Speaker 3: the other day, he didn't look as impressive as I
- 28:56Speaker 3: saw him before he got hurt last year.
- 28:58Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. I think the injury is still
- 29:00Speaker 1: affecting him in a way.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Yeah. So, you know, we'll have to keep an eye
- 29:08Speaker 3: on that. That would have been a big win. Right.
- 29:11Speaker 1: It would have been easier if Oklahoma won that.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:15Speaker 2: But so be it. That's why we love these games.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Okay, so as you know, my friend and I, we
- 29:21Speaker 1: went to the U.S. Open last Tuesday, and we stayed
- 29:24Speaker 1: until 2.30 in the morning because we ended up with.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Courtside seats, which was pretty remarkable.
- 29:30Speaker 1: I believe they were kind of seat-filling because people in
- 29:33Speaker 1: the bottom row were probably leaving that match, although who
- 29:36Speaker 1: would leave that match? We ended up leaving earlier just
- 29:38Speaker 1: because but i mean i was really hoping for shelton
- 29:42Speaker 1: the rest of the way because that was the match
- 29:45Speaker 1: of not only the tournament even though he lost yesterday
- 29:48Speaker 1: that was the match of like the decade or even
- 29:50Speaker 1: more you know like it's just it's one for the
- 29:52Speaker 1: ages as they say It was.
- 29:55Speaker 3: I don't like the fact that they started a little
- 29:57Speaker 3: bit after 11 o'clock. That's, to me, ridiculous. And the
- 30:01Speaker 3: match ending at 3.33 is really crazy. But I actually
- 30:08Speaker 3: thought Sheldon was going to win yesterday. But, you know,
- 30:11Speaker 3: he was down two sets. He won the third. And
- 30:16Speaker 3: it's ever his time. You know, he's the number two
- 30:17Speaker 3: player in the world. Now he's right up there with
- 30:21Speaker 3: center and.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I love it. He didn't even know it. He was
- 30:25Speaker 1: so focused on being the guy. He just didn't even
- 30:27Speaker 1: know he won. That was the best part of the match.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Yeah, that really was. So he was definitely focused yesterday
- 30:36Speaker 3: to win.
- 30:39Speaker 1: The other note about this whole thing is I see
- 30:41Speaker 1: Djokovic is now not in the top 10. He's actually
- 30:46Speaker 1: 12 now. So that's a bit different. We're used to that.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I see for the first time since 2002... Him, obviously
- 30:54Speaker 1: Federer's gone, and Nadal. But, like, none of our guys
- 30:58Speaker 1: I grew up with are in it, in the top 10.
- 31:00Speaker 1: It's becoming a new era.
- 31:01Speaker 2: And I know you were through it when Agassi shifted into.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Like, the, I guess, the Roddick era, right? And then
- 31:07Speaker 1: the Roddick era shifted into the Nadal era. Like, there
- 31:09Speaker 1: have been eras throughout.
- 31:11Speaker 3: I'm sorry. Go ahead.
- 31:16Speaker 1: It's always a little unusual when our heroes, if you will,
- 31:19Speaker 1: of that game They're just a natural evolution, a natural
- 31:23Speaker 1: evolution of rivalry.
- 31:24Speaker 3: That's exactly right. And being number 12 in the world at, what,
- 31:30Speaker 3: 38 years old, 37, 38 years old, it's pretty good.
- 31:34Speaker 3: I think he's going to squeeze out one more major somehow, Djokovic.
- 31:42Speaker 3: He's probably my favorite all-time player just because of his
- 31:45Speaker 3: competitive spirit, his ability to cover the entire court. I
- 31:50Speaker 3: always enjoyed watching him play. Yeah, but Alex, everything comes
- 31:57Speaker 3: to an end, even when you're the greatest player maybe
- 32:00Speaker 3: of all time. Even that career comes to an end.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Well, because here's the thing about Djokovic that I think
- 32:06Speaker 1: you could not say about Nadal or Federer. He seemed
- 32:08Speaker 1: to dominate every court. Like, Nadal had his trouble on
- 32:11Speaker 1: certain courts. Federer had his trouble on certain courts. But Djokovic...
- 32:17Speaker 1: able to win on every court. Now, one other interesting
- 32:19Speaker 1: note about all this, I'm sure you saw this last week.
- 32:22Speaker 1: As we were complaining about the influencers that were ruining
- 32:25Speaker 1: the game, stopping the matches, it was horrible. Well, Wimbledon,
- 32:28Speaker 1: the classy organization it is, said, we're not going to
- 32:31Speaker 1: allow influencers in, and I really like that move. I mean,
- 32:34Speaker 1: Wimbledon is almost like the Masters in its master class,
- 32:38Speaker 1: if you will, of how proper it is with the
- 32:43Speaker 1: Masters and Wimbledon. They're very similar in that regard.
- 32:45Speaker 3: I would agree with that. I would agree with that.
- 32:49Speaker 3: These influencers, they shouldn't disrupt an iconic tournament like the U.S. Open.
- 32:57Speaker 1: I mean, look at the idiots. And look, no offense
- 32:59Speaker 1: to Long Islanders, but look at the idiots in Long
- 33:01Speaker 1: Island when they golf. I mean, they all interrupt them.
- 33:04Speaker 1: It's very strange. There is some kind of decorum that
- 33:08Speaker 1: you need. And yes, I'm also saying the guy running
- 33:11Speaker 1: in the Palestinian flag on 9-11, that's not decorum either.
- 33:15Speaker 1: And I'm glad he got what he got. when he
- 33:17Speaker 1: got taken off the field, I guess bottles were thrown
- 33:19Speaker 1: at him. Now, that's a guy you could throw bottles at,
- 33:21Speaker 1: but that's.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Not the story. Absolutely, Alex. You're 100% correct. That guy
- 33:26Speaker 3: was a disgrace.
- 33:28Speaker 1: And unlike, although I imagine we started to burn the
- 33:33Speaker 1: Palestinian flag, I wonder if that would have been a
- 33:35Speaker 1: plot twist to the Rick Monday story anyway. Anyway, I digress.
- 33:40Speaker 1: The decorum is needed, especially in tennis. Look, I haven't
- 33:43Speaker 1: been in the U.S. Open in 16, 17 years, and
- 33:44Speaker 1: I didn't I didn't realize that while it's so quiet,
- 33:51Speaker 1: people still do talk a little bit, even though it's lower.
- 33:53Speaker 1: And it's so interesting to me because I'm like listening
- 33:55Speaker 1: to other people. I'm like, I just want to be
- 33:57Speaker 1: completely quiet in this match, you know, but it's a
- 33:59Speaker 1: little different now. And I think it's changed since years
- 34:03Speaker 1: ago because we all have our phones now. So there's
- 34:06Speaker 1: that going on also.
- 34:08Speaker 3: That's a big difference in every sport, at every sporting event,
- 34:13Speaker 3: how fans are looking at their phones instead of looking
- 34:16Speaker 3: at the action. I look at the action. You know?
- 34:20Speaker 2: And I don't know. It felt a little slower.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Maybe because it was 11 o'clock at night. But the
- 34:23Speaker 1: action felt a little slower. And it just... I don't know.
- 34:25Speaker 1: It was weird. But I loved it anyway. And then
- 34:27Speaker 1: we got courtside. Then you could feel the action. And
- 34:31Speaker 1: then what Alcaraz is, he kept hitting into the net. Like,
- 34:33Speaker 1: almost every time he had a break, he hit into
- 34:35Speaker 1: the net. And I was like, something might be wrong
- 34:37Speaker 1: with him. He looks a little off. He hurt himself
- 34:39Speaker 1: at one point during that match, I think. So it just...
- 34:42Speaker 1: He had an off night. But I think he'll come
- 34:43Speaker 1: back and win some more.
- 34:44Speaker 3: He's very confident. He's... He's fantastic.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Seven times and he's only 23. That's pretty damn good.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Absolutely. He's going to win a lot more than seven majors.
- 34:57Speaker 3: That's for sure.
- 34:58Speaker 2: I think so. But it's always fun.
- 34:59Speaker 1: And I feel like, influencer aside, it's always, the US
- 35:04Speaker 1: Open always is like that classy event you go to
- 35:07Speaker 1: just to be at and just be part of and
- 35:09Speaker 1: all that.
- 35:09Speaker 2: So it was cool. All right, Louis.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Well, one last thing before we wrap up. Uriah's got
- 35:15Speaker 1: a captain today, and I think it's rightly so, Beau Horvat.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I mean, he was the logical choice. I
- 35:23Speaker 3: definitely have no problem with it. Obviously, I assume the
- 35:28Speaker 3: next captain, whenever that will be, two, three, four, five
- 35:31Speaker 3: years from now, is going to be Matthew Schaefer. But
- 35:34Speaker 3: you don't want to give it to a 19-year-old kid. Now, yes,
- 35:37Speaker 3: I know there's been 19-year-old captains. Celebrini is, what, 20?
- 35:41Speaker 3: He's the captain, Bedard's captain of the Blackhawks. So I'm
- 35:45Speaker 3: sure Matthew Schaefer will be the captain of the Islanders
- 35:49Speaker 3: one day, but it's good that they gave it to
- 35:53Speaker 3: Bo Horvath. That's for sure. Keep some of the pressure
- 35:59Speaker 3: off Matthew Schaefer as he, you know, as he enters
- 36:02Speaker 3: his second year. And let's hope he doesn't have a
- 36:04Speaker 3: sophomore slump like a lot of a lot of players do.
- 36:09Speaker 3: And opening, we're less than what? Three or four days
- 36:13Speaker 3: away from the opening of camp.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just crazy how time's flying. All right. And
- 36:18Speaker 1: as we mentioned about a month ago, Pete Alonzo will
- 36:21Speaker 1: be going for Homer 300. It's fitting it'll be at
- 36:24Speaker 1: Citi Field. You know what I think? It's going to
- 36:26Speaker 1: be the first at bat he comes up. I just
- 36:28Speaker 1: think he's going to do it right off the bat
- 36:29Speaker 1: because he did that at Yankee Stadium. Why not do
- 36:32Speaker 1: it at Citi Field?
- 36:33Speaker 3: Sure.
- 36:34Speaker 1: And I'll be happy for him. And apparently Lindor is
- 36:37Speaker 1: also up to Homer 2199. So they're both going.
- 36:39Speaker 3: Yes, he is. How about that for simplicity? Now, of course,
- 36:43Speaker 3: we all know that Pete Alonso has already hit a
- 36:47Speaker 3: home run number 300. But that embarrassment in Baltimore that
- 36:53Speaker 3: night against the Yankees, when he hit one that was
- 36:56Speaker 3: clearly a home run. Yeah. And.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Uh, but they, uh, they said that.
- 37:03Speaker 1: They rigged that so he could get it at city field.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Maybe he did that. Maybe they did that on purpose.
- 37:07Speaker 3: I don't know, but it's very weird. They didn't do
- 37:10Speaker 3: it on purpose, Alex. They just blew it.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Um, and that's with replay.
- 37:14Speaker 3: That's the funny part.
- 37:16Speaker 2: It's with replay. Okay.
- 37:17Speaker 1: That's the crazy part.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it, it, it, it, that was major league
- 37:21Speaker 3: baseball should be embarrassed by that. All right, Louie.
- 37:24Speaker 1: I got, I got to tell you, I'm revamping my fanatics,
- 37:27Speaker 1: a creator collection, uh, What Mets do you want to
- 37:30Speaker 1: see up there? I'm thinking of putting Benj and Ewing
- 37:33Speaker 1: and I don't have the heart to put Soto up
- 37:36Speaker 1: there because it's just, I don't know. Why not?
- 37:39Speaker 3: He's the best player on the team.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I think I'm going to and Lindor and I might
- 37:44Speaker 1: even McLean. There's another guy out there. But Benj and Ewing, man,
- 37:50Speaker 1: imagine them with Alonzo in the lineup, they could have
- 37:53Speaker 1: done something this year.
- 37:54Speaker 3: So, so imagine, imagine if the Mets didn't make the
- 37:57Speaker 3: trade for, uh, Javier Baez and they had, they had, um, PCA,
- 38:04Speaker 3: PCA in center, Benjen, right? Soto and left. And remember
- 38:09Speaker 3: Ewing played second this year and he played second in
- 38:13Speaker 3: the minor leagues. Now he's a great center fielder, but
- 38:16Speaker 3: you could have maybe Ewing at second Lindor at short
- 38:19Speaker 3: Alonzo at first. Bichette at third. That would be a
- 38:24Speaker 3: pretty good team.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Louis, it's going to be Howie Rose's final homestand. I
- 38:29Speaker 1: can't believe I'm saying that, but this is it. And
- 38:31Speaker 1: I might go Sunday. And they're actually doing the game
- 38:33Speaker 1: at 110, like a traditional 110 game.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 38:38Speaker 2: And see him.
- 38:39Speaker 1: And he knows Yom Kippur, which is so interesting because
- 38:41Speaker 1: he never worked on Yom Kippur that I can remember.
- 38:43Speaker 3: He never works on Yom Kippur or Rosh Hashanah, never.
- 38:46Speaker 1: But he'll be honored. So we'll be there on Sunday afternoon. um,
- 38:51Speaker 1: to honor him.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Well, I wonder what the Mets are going to do
- 38:55Speaker 3: with the, with the broadcast next year, who they're going
- 39:00Speaker 3: to have to add a third guy. I'm going to make,
- 39:02Speaker 3: I have no idea about his contract situation, but there's
- 39:06Speaker 3: a young man by name of Josh Eisenberg, who is
- 39:10Speaker 3: from Queens. I believe who, who did some Mets games
- 39:13Speaker 3: before he became the Royals radio announcer. He's very good.
- 39:18Speaker 3: And I, He might have gotten that job, but he
- 39:24Speaker 3: went to the Royals, I think a year before Wayne
- 39:26Speaker 3: Randazzo left the Mets to take the Angels to... job.
- 39:31Speaker 3: But that's the name, if the Mets add an announcer,
- 39:35Speaker 3: which I believe they will, keep that Eisenberg name in
- 39:40Speaker 3: the back of your head, because I think he might
- 39:42Speaker 3: be the one to get that job.
- 39:44Speaker 1: We'll go over calls and how he did, because there
- 39:46Speaker 1: are two that stick out in my mind. Obviously, the
- 39:48Speaker 1: Piazza home run call. And then the Alonzo call actually
- 39:53Speaker 1: in 2024 against the Brewers. But we'll go over that
- 39:56Speaker 1: in a separate episode because he deserves. And then we'll
- 40:00Speaker 1: even try and get him on. So we'll have to
- 40:02Speaker 1: see how that could work out because I still talk
- 40:03Speaker 1: to him.
- 40:05Speaker 3: That's good. And as we said two years ago when
- 40:09Speaker 3: Alonzo hit that home run, that was a perfect call.
- 40:14Speaker 3: And anybody who wants to be a play-by-play announcer should
- 40:18Speaker 3: listen to to that home run call, the detail, the
- 40:22Speaker 3: scene setting as he came up to the plate, as
- 40:25Speaker 3: Pete came up to the plate, basically detailing everything, not
- 40:29Speaker 3: only the home run, but as he got back into
- 40:32Speaker 3: the dugout and was mobbed by the players, he detailed everything.
- 40:36Speaker 3: That might be as perfect a description as you can want.
- 40:40Speaker 3: It was a brilliant call.
- 40:43Speaker 1: And To bookend it, of course, it was the Islander guy. So,
- 40:46Speaker 1: you know, he got to know him there as well
- 40:48Speaker 1: over the years. So, it was great. And on the
- 40:51Speaker 1: announcer note, I got to give credit once again. Chris
- 40:56Speaker 1: Fowler doing the big game on Saturday night.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Then flying up and doing the final with McEnroe.
- 41:02Speaker 1: And I loved it. I noticed McEnroe is a bit
- 41:04Speaker 1: of a homer for all the American guys. Like, he
- 41:08Speaker 1: always wants them to win. And look, even though he
- 41:10Speaker 1: doesn't play, you could tell he's still very passionate about
- 41:12Speaker 1: the sport that he dominated in. for so many years.
- 41:15Speaker 1: So I love listening to him actually on the call.
- 41:18Speaker 3: You know, both John and Patrick McEnroe are excellent tennis commentators.
- 41:25Speaker 3: And John Isner, who I love. They love the sport.
- 41:27Speaker 1: And John Isner was part of that longest match ever
- 41:30Speaker 1: at Wimbledon, is the sideline guy. I think James Blake
- 41:32Speaker 1: was as well. And you were telling me Andy Roddick
- 41:35Speaker 1: did a great job as well.
- 41:37Speaker 3: Yeah, he did a great job. He sounded like he
- 41:40Speaker 3: had been doing it forever.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Yep, well, we'll have to see. Americans, Tiafoe's going to
- 41:47Speaker 1: be in it for the long haul. Shelton will be.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I'm not sure about Taylor Fritz. He was highly touted,
- 41:53Speaker 1: but he collapsed again a week ago. I don't know.
- 41:56Speaker 1: I don't know if it's going to be that American
- 41:59Speaker 1: that just sticks it out every turn. He seems to
- 42:02Speaker 1: collapse at times, so we'll have to see what happens
- 42:04Speaker 1: with him.
- 42:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought he would be the guy to break
- 42:07Speaker 3: the streak, the drought, the men's drought for Grand Slam.
- 42:14Speaker 3: tennis events. I thought it would be Taylor Fritz.
- 42:17Speaker 1: And you know what? We forget Sinner wasn't in this one.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Imagine if Sinner was in it. That would have been
- 42:21Speaker 1: very interesting. But so be it. That's the way life is,
- 42:26Speaker 1: Louis T. So I'm glad to have you on Sling
- 42:29Speaker 1: TV Sunday. Mahomes is tonight. Pete Alonzo goes back to
- 42:32Speaker 1: the Mets tonight. So still a lot to look forward to.
- 42:37Speaker 1: And yeah, college football. I am going to watch LSU
- 42:40Speaker 1: play Ole Miss because that's Lane Kiffin's.
- 42:43Speaker 3: That will be interesting Saturday night. Very interesting.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Unlike other sports, college football is the only one I
- 42:50Speaker 1: could think of where these guys literally go in the
- 42:52Speaker 1: dark of night, you know, to another team. Brian Kelly
- 42:55Speaker 1: did against when Notre Dame actually to LSU and Nick
- 43:00Speaker 1: Saban did that, I believe. As well. They do like
- 43:03Speaker 1: the dark of night kind of thing where they just leave.
- 43:06Speaker 1: I don't know how they get away with it.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Remember, Nick Saban says he wasn't leaving the Dolphins for Alabama.
- 43:11Speaker 3: And the next day, he left the Dolphins for Alabama.
- 43:14Speaker 1: And created what a franchise.
- 43:17Speaker 3: You're right. What a franchise.
- 43:19Speaker 1: I'm sure he watches Tua and is like, that's pretty.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Because Tua was a freshman. He came in that second half.
- 43:26Speaker 1: And look at his career in the NFL. It's not
- 43:28Speaker 1: been what he was hoping for. Yeah, I think.
- 43:31Speaker 3: The concussions obviously have a lot to do with that.
- 43:34Speaker 3: It must be.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Fun for you to talk about all these guys because
- 43:38Speaker 1: we all saw them in certain points in their career
- 43:40Speaker 1: in college and then, boom, in the NFL. I mean,
- 43:43Speaker 1: you saw Namath in Notre Dame. Then he became this
- 43:45Speaker 1: guy in San Francisco. I mean, all these guys.
- 43:48Speaker 3: You mean Montana.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:50Speaker 3: Montana.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Joe Montana, yep.
- 43:52Speaker 3: Yep.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Who did I say, Joe? Did I say Namath?
- 43:55Speaker 3: You said Namath. By the way, Joe Namath and Joe
- 43:58Speaker 3: Montana are the only two quarterbacks to win a college
- 44:02Speaker 3: championship and win a Super Bowl.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Well, there you go. A nostalgic note to end Terminal's take.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Sling TV link in the description below. And my FNAX creator. And,
- 44:13Speaker 1: of course, Louie, what do you got to do? Subscribe?
- 44:15Speaker 1: Hit the like button, right?
- 44:16Speaker 2: All that fun stuff?
- 44:18Speaker 3: Do it. Come on, guys. All you guys listening, do it.
- 44:23Speaker 1: All right.
- 44:23Speaker 3: Support the channel.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Louis T, one leg up Alex Media right here. We'll
- 44:28Speaker 1: have more for you. This is it. Two weeks of
- 44:31Speaker 1: baseball left. Yanks, four games out, 13 games left to play.
- 44:36Speaker 1: And I do think the Rays have it because that
- 44:37Speaker 1: schedule looks pretty easy right now with the A's coming
- 44:41Speaker 1: to Tampa. Yanks should beat Minnesota, but I don't know.
- 44:46Speaker 1: It's either a hit or a miss with these guys. Literally,
- 44:48Speaker 1: they can score six or seven runs or score nothing
- 44:51Speaker 1: nights at a time. I don't really understand it, but.
- 44:53Speaker 1: It's where we're.
- 44:54Speaker 3: At right now. Their lineup has been inconsistent as far
- 44:58Speaker 3: as production goes.
- 45:00Speaker 1: So we'll see. But Louis T, thanks again as always,
- 45:02Speaker 1: and we'll talk to you soon at One Link Up
- 45:04Speaker 1: Alex Media.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Alex, thanks for having me as always. Much appreciated.
