- 0:00Let's do it. Let's do what? Emotional damage
- 0:03episode 2? Oh, snap, son. That's a great intro.
- 0:12Welcome back, everyone. And by everyone, I mean
- 0:15Zach, because no one else is listening. I checked
- 0:17the Mousecape Facebook. No one gives a shit.
- 0:20Dude, that's so crazy. No one gives a shit. We
- 0:23did have a couple downloads from Leeds, which
- 0:25means it's one of those Brits, probably. Leeds?
- 0:29leads in the uk really there's a couple british
- 0:32people who listen to metalscape anyway this is
- 0:35this is an anime podcast that's what we need
- 0:36to focus on uh so what time we get we both did
- 0:39some homework you completed your homework right
- 0:41yes i did i completed mine and uh oh yeah then
- 0:47we watched the new show who do we want to start
- 0:49with you want me to go ahead about uh five centimeters
- 0:53per second Yes, that's what I recommended to
- 0:56Ron. I quite enjoyed this film, and I know it's
- 1:01not really what Ron watches or listens to on
- 1:04the regular, so I'm curious. Yeah, just to get
- 1:09everyone up to speed, we have this, I don't know,
- 1:12we don't have a name for this section yet, but
- 1:15in each episode, Zach and I recommend an anime
- 1:19to each other, a must -watch. So we have to watch
- 1:24it and then I may be recommending you some shit
- 1:26that is not a must watch. I just want to know
- 1:28what the fuck you think about it. Well, that's
- 1:30what I'm saying. A must watch. You must watch
- 1:33it. Oh, okay. So it doesn't matter what it is.
- 1:38I mean, the only thing that matters is that the
- 1:40other guy likes it and recommends it to you and
- 1:42you watch it and you. And yeah, and so I did.
- 1:46Five centimeters per second. I thank you for
- 1:49giving me access to Zach Flicks. For some reason,
- 1:52that damn movie wouldn't load. Oh, really? Oh,
- 1:56anyway, sorry. I don't know. For some reason,
- 1:58it wouldn't load. So I had to go to my, to the,
- 2:02you know, some parts of the internet where you
- 2:06can download things. And I downloaded it. The
- 2:11animation was really beautiful. I got to say.
- 2:14It is, right? It's very pretty. I love it. Yeah.
- 2:16I love whenever there are scenes when there are
- 2:18people, they're like walking or riding a bike
- 2:21along the coast and you can see the horizon and
- 2:26the sun is setting and you see the sunlight rippling
- 2:29through the water or on the water and the horizon
- 2:33is just beautiful. It's a beautiful looking anime.
- 2:35But I didn't actually, you know, I understand
- 2:39the part where like it's about loss. It's about
- 2:43things that could have been, but never were.
- 2:46I see that, and that's where I got from it. You
- 2:50know, like these kids met when they were very
- 2:51young, and then they got separated because, you
- 2:54know, one of them went to a different school,
- 2:56the other one too. And then they met briefly
- 2:58again. It was such a fucking hard, you know,
- 3:01Jesus Christ, the train got delayed, then it
- 3:03snowed, then it got, I don't know. But she, I
- 3:06mean, that was the guy going to the girl. Anime
- 3:07shit happened. Yeah, and then all the fucking
- 3:10shit happened. You know, Japan were like, One
- 3:12in a million fucking train gets a delay every
- 3:15one sec, every, you know, for a second. And then
- 3:18the entire fucking company goes and apologize
- 3:20to you in your house. But apparently in this
- 3:23fucking movie, the one time this guy had the
- 3:25opportunity to go meet the girl of his dreams
- 3:27from childhood, the fucking train just fucking
- 3:29gets laid hours, hours in Japan. Is that not
- 3:33science fiction, my friends? So he finally arrives
- 3:37there. He fears, he fears that, uh, His friend's
- 3:43not going to be there, but she is. And they spend
- 3:45a beautiful couple hours together. And they kiss.
- 3:49And that's the last time they ever see each other
- 3:52again. It is, yes. And then pretty much the rest
- 3:55of the movie is just you looking at this guy
- 3:59wondering, hmm, I wonder what she's doing right
- 4:02now. Yeah, the next phase of the movie, it's
- 4:05him as a teenager who's got the girl who obviously
- 4:10is into him, and he's just totally blind to it
- 4:13because he's still thinking about his other girl.
- 4:16Yeah, which is another side of the coin. It's
- 4:19the same thing. It's like, what could have been?
- 4:21It's like the loss of what never was. Yeah. And
- 4:25so the other girl loves him completely, but it
- 4:28will never be. It can never be because the dude's
- 4:31still hung up on the... One childhood girl. Yeah,
- 4:35I wonder. So you when they met with the train
- 4:40incident and stuff, she had a letter to give
- 4:43him that she ended up not giving him because
- 4:44he was kind of too into it. I think I think that
- 4:50letter was going to break it off more officially.
- 4:53So then you wonder, like, well, she had just
- 4:55given that to him. I wonder what he would have
- 4:57done differently if he would have accepted that.
- 5:01I don't remember that part about a letter. It's
- 5:04kind of subtle. It like, um, cause he gives her,
- 5:08go ahead. Cause he gives her a letter, right?
- 5:12Yeah. Yeah. And then she has one for him, but
- 5:14it's, it shows it like in her purse or something.
- 5:17And she kind of, it's very much, she makes a
- 5:19conscious decision. You're like, you know what?
- 5:21I'm not going to give this to him. And it was
- 5:23right after they like kissed and stuff. And I,
- 5:25I think I didn't, I should almost rewatch it.
- 5:28I should have rewatched it. It was, um, that
- 5:32would have been her like, this is nice and everything,
- 5:34but you know, this isn't going to work out. Um,
- 5:38and she didn't want to let him down like that.
- 5:41I completely missed that, but that makes a lot
- 5:44of sense because then he just, the movie just
- 5:46basically centers on him, you know? And I'm like,
- 5:49dude, can you just not pick up a phone and call
- 5:52her or look her up in fucking Facebook or Instagram
- 5:57or whatever? I mean, They have cell phones, right?
- 6:01They do, and they actually, I think after the
- 6:05train thing, they do keep in contact, but they
- 6:08kind of like eventually just stop talking to
- 6:11each other. Yeah, it's like me and you. Yeah,
- 6:16but I mean, I got the, I got the, I felt the
- 6:21need for connection a couple months ago, and
- 6:23I picked up my fucking phone, and I said, hey,
- 6:25Zach, what's up? Get your ass on the microphone.
- 6:29Get fucking podcasting, bitch. So why? The movie
- 6:34centers on him. We never got to see what happened
- 6:37to her. You know, whenever we see her, it's just
- 6:39whatever he's thinking of what she's doing. But
- 6:43I guess it kind of tracks what you're saying.
- 6:46Maybe she wanted to break it off. But I still
- 6:49don't get why the dude never actually tried it.
- 6:51I mean, if he was so fucking in love with this
- 6:53girl, go get her, man. What the hell are you
- 6:56waiting for? He's just like, oh, no, this is
- 6:58so sad. I wonder what she's doing right now.
- 7:03No, it's so sad. Go get her. Dumbass. I felt
- 7:08so bad. I mean, that is true for him. And then
- 7:10I felt so bad for his high school friend, though.
- 7:14Just go with the surfer girl. She's fun. She's
- 7:17cute. No, you're right, I guess. That's another
- 7:22good point. Sometimes you have the answer to
- 7:26all your life's problems right in front of you,
- 7:28but you keep suffering or obsessing about something
- 7:32in the past that you're probably romanticizing.
- 7:35Oh, yeah. It wasn't even that good. It wasn't
- 7:37even that good as you think it is. Yeah. I mean.
- 7:40The grass is always greener on the other side.
- 7:43To not realize like, oh, yeah, we were 12. The
- 7:45things are probably different. Yeah. But then
- 7:51the third act where it's just, like, him and
- 7:52his bitch wife he ended up marrying or whatever.
- 7:55He married? I think, don't they show a clip of
- 7:59that girl, him and his wife, like, fighting or
- 8:01something? Did we see the same fucking movie?
- 8:04He got married? It doesn't show the marriage,
- 8:07but it shows him, like, him and some lady fighting.
- 8:10They're obviously in a relationship. Isn't it
- 8:13the third act a bunch of clips of, like, what's
- 8:16going on in their lives? I think it shows her
- 8:18dating someone. It does. It does. It shows her,
- 8:22like, going on with her life. Yeah, and it shows
- 8:25him going nine to five and hating it and then
- 8:28arguing with some lady who I think is a wife
- 8:30or girlfriend, I guess, maybe. No, I didn't get
- 8:33that. Until the last scene where he almost sees
- 8:38her. Does he? I don't know. Is that real? Because
- 8:41I thought he kept just picturing that in his
- 8:43head. I think they both live in Tokyo. You know
- 8:48what I mean? Yeah. Like, when they're adults,
- 8:49they go back to Tokyo. Yeah, and he keeps thinking,
- 8:53like, oh, I'll run into her any fucking minute
- 8:54now. Why don't you fucking pick up a phone and
- 8:57look her up, Jesus? You can just Google someone's
- 9:00name, you know, and it'll fucking guide you.
- 9:03But anyway, yeah. There's no honor in that. Remember,
- 9:06we're in Japan. Sure. Yeah, sure. That'll, yeah.
- 9:14That's going to be useful on those cold, lonely
- 9:16nights when you have, you know, no one by your
- 9:18side. Yeah, at least you got honor. Sure. It's
- 9:23me and my honor. Just me and my honor. Hey, honor,
- 9:27you want a cup of wine? Yeah. Can we snuggle,
- 9:30honor? I'll turn on the lights and put on some
- 9:33jads. Honor. Where are you going, honor? Are
- 9:42you going to slip into something more comfortable,
- 9:44Honor? You want to try that thing I saw on the
- 9:47internet? Honor? You're coming back, right, Honor?
- 9:58I thought you were off work tomorrow, Honor.
- 10:01What do you mean you got to go? Your mom's at
- 10:06the hospital? That's terrible. Okay, stop it.
- 10:12All right. Yes, I watched it. Did I like it?
- 10:16I mean, I like the animation. Movie itself, kind
- 10:18of like Miss for me. It's not, I just don't like
- 10:23it when something's, the story gets stuck on
- 10:26something so obvious. You know, it's like, oh,
- 10:29no. Oh, I wonder what she's doing. Go fucking
- 10:32find her. I'm sorry. I just, that part just didn't
- 10:37click for me. Yeah. I definitely a running theme
- 10:42in anime they like is that not just the theme
- 10:45of like loss, but of growing apart and going
- 10:48into the next phase of life. And like, like,
- 10:50oh, yeah, their best friends are not always going
- 10:51to be there. Things got to change and blah, blah,
- 10:53blah. And I really like the movie. And I think
- 10:57because I mean, not note for note, but I've had
- 11:01similar experiences. I mean, there's friends
- 11:03now who like I lost touch with. And I could I.
- 11:06Facebook them or Google them or I probably got
- 11:09some of their numbers and stuff. But am I really
- 11:11going to fucking do that now after all this time?
- 11:13No. Why not? I don't know. I don't know what
- 11:17the fuck they're doing. I have a thing in my
- 11:19head where I was like, oh, yeah, that was cool
- 11:21when we'd spend like this. But, you know, it's
- 11:24years later now. Well, you'll never know what
- 11:26they're doing if you don't fucking go and find
- 11:28out. Maybe I don't want to know what they're
- 11:30doing. So I'll just fucking. Why not? I don't
- 11:33know. You're just romanticizing the loss. You
- 11:37just don't want to do anything about it. I mean,
- 11:41life is either a problem that you can solve,
- 11:44go ahead and solve it, or a reality you must
- 11:48accept. You know, so if there's something you
- 11:50can do about something, do it. Don't just fucking
- 11:54sit there like fucking five centimeters into
- 11:56my vagina and just be like, oh no. Fucking do
- 12:01something about it, man. I guess that's where
- 12:03the difference is because it's like not note
- 12:04for note. This is not like someone where I'm
- 12:06like, oh, man, I really wonder what they're doing.
- 12:08I'm just like, oh, yeah, I haven't seen him in
- 12:10a while. It would be fucking odd to reach out
- 12:14to them now. And then, honestly, what if they
- 12:17end up wanting to chat all the time? And I'm
- 12:18like, I wasn't trying to fucking do all that.
- 12:24I just wanted to see if I was better than you
- 12:26or not. Wow, you're an asshole. Here I'm just,
- 12:33you know, opening my heart out to you and you
- 12:36just want to fucking make sure you're eating
- 12:39shit. Basically. But no, I did it. If you gave
- 12:47it a number, we didn't talk about a rating system
- 12:49if we're going to be doing that or not. We could.
- 12:52We could rate it. I mean, that would give something
- 12:55objective. We could probably, you know, create
- 12:58some content out of that. Yeah, definitely. We'll
- 13:01be keeping a spreadsheet of our ratings. Yeah,
- 13:04in the future, you know, anime production houses
- 13:06would give us private screenings of their anime
- 13:10and get a rating before they, you know... See
- 13:14in the banner ads on Crunchyroll, like, as recommended
- 13:16by Zack and Ron. Yeah, and then... Oh, shit,
- 13:20my Pedidos Ya is here. Be right back. Hold on.
- 13:23Pedidos Ya! I'm back, my friend. Hello. Did they
- 13:34bring in your beer? Yes, they did. Six pack of
- 13:39Victoria Classica. Victoria Classica. Nice. Yeah.
- 13:44So you're having a Victoria Classica. That's
- 13:46a Nicaraguan original? Yes. I'm not having it
- 13:50right now. I put it in the freezer so it can
- 13:52get a bit cold. Okay. I'm having a glass of Barbera
- 13:57from Atchison Winery here in Sacramento. So it's
- 14:01definitely not Italian. No, the Barbera grape
- 14:05is, but no, it's grown fairly locally. I'm really
- 14:08close to Lodi as a grape growing area and Napa
- 14:13and stuff, wine country. Oh man, that's got to
- 14:16be good. Locally grown food. Yeah, this place
- 14:19is really cool. I've met the actual winemaker
- 14:23one time. He doesn't work in the shop too much.
- 14:26But they don't have a vineyard. He just kind
- 14:28of sources grapes from different places and mixes
- 14:30it together. So they have a constantly rotating
- 14:32menu. And they don't bottle anything. It's all
- 14:35in kegs. And then, like, I'm a member there,
- 14:37and you get refillable bottles, and you bring
- 14:39them in whenever, and they'll swap them out for
- 14:41new bottles and stuff. So he doesn't grow in
- 14:44his own grapes? No. No. Which means, like, there's
- 14:47always different if he sees something. You can
- 14:51find they have fun shit sometimes where it's
- 14:53like, oh, yeah, I just found a batch of this
- 14:55that they were selling. So I made a wine with
- 14:56that or like their house red, you know, every
- 14:59few months that the blend totally changes. That's
- 15:04cool. But it's a cool little spot. Very low key.
- 15:06Not not super hoity toity wine bar. Well, the
- 15:11the brewery, we don't grow our own. What is it?
- 15:18Barley or. Barley hops. Yeah, we don't, the malt,
- 15:22the malted barley. Yeah, that's not barley. It
- 15:25doesn't grow in these climates. They got to import
- 15:28it all from France or Sweden or Germany. Oh,
- 15:32wow. I didn't know. Okay. Yep. Damn, is beer
- 15:35expensive there then? No, it's, you can buy a
- 15:40bottle of beer for less than a dollar. Oh, nice.
- 15:43Mm -hmm. So if you ever want to get drunk on
- 15:47the cheap, fly down. Come on down to Managua.
- 15:50Come on down, Zach Moore. It's your time to be
- 15:53on. Hey, Ron, I'm here. I'm in La Discoteca.
- 15:57La Discoteca. That's funny. So, what were we
- 16:02talking about? Five centimeters per second. Yes,
- 16:06you're going to give it a number grade, and then
- 16:08I'll give mine. Yes, that's what I was saying,
- 16:10that anime studios will have to consult with
- 16:13us first before releasing the anime. And if you
- 16:15give it a low enough rating, you know, say below
- 16:17four or something, you're going to have to rethink
- 16:18the whole thing. Yep. Spend millions of dollars
- 16:21in production. Sorry, back to the drawing, buddy.
- 16:23Because we're going to be like the... Sorry,
- 16:26Miyazaki, get your ass back in the fucking editing
- 16:29room. We're going to be the fucking Miranda Priestley's
- 16:33of anime. Our opinion is the only one that matters.
- 16:39Explain. Who's Miranda Priestly? Are you fucking
- 16:44serious, dude? You've never seen The Devil Wears
- 16:46Prada? No. Okay, so I watched it mainly because...
- 16:50Oh, it's Glenn Close's character? No. It's...
- 16:52No. That's Cruella de Vil, isn't it? Well, who
- 16:57is that? Huh? From the 101 Dalmatians? Miranda
- 17:01Priestly? Okay. The Devil Wears Prada. You've
- 17:04never seen this movie? No. It's apparently based
- 17:08off of a novel that some intern at a fashion
- 17:10magazine wrote. Vogue. Like, I've heard about
- 17:13the movie. It's enough in the zeitgeist that,
- 17:15like, I kind of know about it, but I never actually
- 17:17watched it. Miranda Priestly is a character based
- 17:19off of the editor of Vogue or something who's,
- 17:22like, apparently a super professional bitch.
- 17:25Oh, Meryl Streep. That's her name. Yes, Meryl
- 17:28Streep. That's a fun movie. No, dude. You're
- 17:31thinking... Just stop it, Gramps. Is Glenn Close
- 17:34even alive anymore? I don't know. I think so.
- 17:37She has a fascinating face, don't you think?
- 17:39She looks like a fucking bald eagle or something.
- 17:42Upside down. All right. Anyway, I only watched
- 17:49the movie. Mainly, I was attracted to the movie
- 17:51because I think Anne Hathaway is fucking hot.
- 17:55True. I think she's gotten even hotter. Yeah,
- 17:58like a fine wine. Yeah, like a fine Balderoco.
- 18:02What is that you're drinking again? Barbaro.
- 18:06Barbaro. Yeah, like a fine Barbaro. Yeah. You
- 18:10know, I like to smooth out those wrinkles, if
- 18:12you know, to catch my drift. Well, I really don't.
- 18:19Anyway. I've got some anti -aging cream for you.
- 18:22What was I saying? Oh, yes. Rating system. If
- 18:26I had to rate the movie, sorry, I'd give it a
- 18:284 out of 10. And mostly just because animation,
- 18:31because I just could not get into the plot at
- 18:33all. It just moved too slowly for me. And, you
- 18:37know, I, I, I just hate it when the characters
- 18:39are just so fucking dumbstruck. Just do it. Just
- 18:43fucking snap out of it and do something. God,
- 18:46that thing just fucking pisses me off. Not my
- 18:50thing. I suppose it's not, I know it's, it's,
- 18:53you know, different, different strokes for different
- 18:55folks. Not my stroke. I suppose, you know, Well,
- 18:59I stroked all over it and gave it a 10. Just
- 19:02kidding. Wow. I give it an 8 out of 10. That's
- 19:06cool. Yeah. There were some moments. There were
- 19:09some moments. There were some, you know, genuinely
- 19:13heartfelt moments that I did feel, you know,
- 19:16fucking connected with some of the emotions.
- 19:18But there's so little. And then you kind of get
- 19:21lost in like a sea of indifference by everyone.
- 19:26So it's like. What the hell was it all about?
- 19:29What is this grand love you have inside you that
- 19:33you fucking cannot, you know, do anything about
- 19:37it? No. Do you find pretty often, do you get
- 19:43tripped up by like the unrealistic scenarios
- 19:46or like convenient, you know, amnesia for any
- 19:50genre or whatever, where the answer is just fucking
- 19:53make a phone call? Sometimes. Because I think
- 19:56I'm really good at suspending my disbelief or
- 20:00whatever, or just I could kind of get into it,
- 20:02but like, yeah, I don't know why it's not working.
- 20:04So it's just, they're just not doing that. That's
- 20:06fine. Well, you know, I can kind of ignore it.
- 20:09When the writing has words. Yes, yeah. And the
- 20:13plot really is driving the story. And it's like
- 20:17keeping your focus on, you know, the main things.
- 20:23Yeah. What I'm trying to say is when the plot
- 20:26is really good and, you know, you're engaged
- 20:28in what's the major things, I guess those kind
- 20:32of details can be forgiven because you really
- 20:34pay attention to them. You're like, yeah, whatever,
- 20:36just do it. And so we can or don't do it so we
- 20:39can proceed on with the main part of the story.
- 20:42But sometimes when the plot is kind of shit.
- 20:44Yeah. But sometimes when the plot is shit and
- 20:47you're like, Jesus Christ, and then you get bogged
- 20:49down or you get hit with, oh, yeah, I can't really.
- 20:53call her even though she's the love of my life
- 20:55then you're like and that's the whole fucking
- 20:57plot of the movie and it looks like oh well that's
- 21:00kind of stupid in my opinion yeah especially
- 21:03since he doesn't have uh it's not like he knows
- 21:07it's not like oh she's happily married or whatever
- 21:10so calling her is just gonna be fucking awkward
- 21:11and weird well at least you'll fucking find out
- 21:15no that's what i mean is that he doesn't know
- 21:18so you'd find out If because in some situations
- 21:21where you're like, no, I already kind of know
- 21:22what her situation is. It's not going to make
- 21:23me feel any better to call and hear it from her
- 21:26or whatever. I mean, I mean, I can see the point
- 21:29of if you're trying to make a movie and anime
- 21:31about, you know, loss about just unrequited.
- 21:37Is that how you say it? Yeah, I guess it's kind
- 21:40of unrequited, I think. It's not unrequited love
- 21:43because the last time they saw each other, they
- 21:46were pretty much into each other, one another.
- 21:48Yeah, yeah, it was requited, but just, you know,
- 21:51circumstances. It wasn't to be, and he wasn't
- 21:54willing to accept that. Yeah, but it's not like
- 21:57he fucking got drafted into the space army. I
- 21:58guess he was willing to accept that because he
- 22:01didn't, like you said, he didn't go. fucking
- 22:04do anything about it so it's like I mean so if
- 22:06you're trying to do a movie about meanwhile he's
- 22:09doing all kinds of cute shit riding bikes with
- 22:10that other girl and getting ice cream and stuff
- 22:12yeah fucking going on random dates with random
- 22:15dudes probably having crazy sex back in her apartment
- 22:19and the other dude's just like nah I'll just
- 22:23be miserable for the rest of my life and just
- 22:28you know drink yeah so it's like if you're trying
- 22:31to make a movie about that about that feeling
- 22:35cool great for you so if that was your whole
- 22:39intent good but it's uh i guess i'm not the audience
- 22:43for that fair enough maybe maybe there's something
- 22:47broken with you bro with me something's broken
- 22:50with you why fucking do something about it code
- 22:56gay ass how did you like code gay ass Actually,
- 23:02I'm not even going to say I liked it. I'm going
- 23:06to say I'm liking it because I think I'm going
- 23:07to keep watching. How many episodes did you watch?
- 23:10I watched four episodes. Oh, we're at the, remember,
- 23:17I saw this like 20 something years ago. I just
- 23:20remember the main parts of the story. Where are
- 23:24you at exactly right now? So the Prince Clovis,
- 23:28like his brother. He just killed him, and the
- 23:32news just got made public. He killed him? I didn't
- 23:37remember he had a brother. Yeah. Does he start
- 23:41out knowing he's royal family? So this is what
- 23:44took me forever to put together, because I was
- 23:47very confused. Because apparently he... Him...
- 23:55He was part of the royal family, and then him
- 23:57and someone else got, like, banished to Japan
- 23:59before Britannia actually took over. Okay. And
- 24:03then Britannia came in and took over and bombed
- 24:06him and everything. And so, like, his brother
- 24:08just always assumed that he was dead, but he
- 24:11was living as a Japanese guy in the—they called
- 24:15Japan 11, Area 11. Mm -hmm. And so that's how
- 24:21he— becomes basically, you know, Japanese at
- 24:25heart. What I can't tell is fucking, I was like,
- 24:28does everyone know he's Britannia? Because they're
- 24:33like, he's living with a family who's like hiding
- 24:36him and they know what's going on. No, but he's
- 24:41going to the fancy school that's like an all
- 24:42Britannia, like a very fancy Britannia school.
- 24:45Do only Britannia, no, because he's that friend
- 24:48of his? The honorary Britannian? Yeah, that guy's,
- 24:52Yeah, that guy is fully Japanese. And I think
- 24:55that school is only for Britannians and whoever
- 24:58the Britannians deem worthy to be in there. So
- 25:00if this guy's, his father is the emperor, right?
- 25:05I guess. And who's his mother? Is it some Japanese
- 25:09girl? I don't know. Yeah. I don't know. I know
- 25:15this other character we just met. She's half
- 25:16Japanese. I don't know if that's his deal, too.
- 25:19No, because he was. They were in Britannia and
- 25:21you got, I don't fucking know, man. I think there's
- 25:25something, there's some issue there with his
- 25:27mom or something. I don't know. Anyway. So what
- 25:30else, what else can you tell me? Uh, so, uh,
- 25:33episode one had me, I was watching, um, subbed
- 25:36just like you like. Oh yeah. That's just how
- 25:40I like it, baby. Um, so there was some, some
- 25:44of the hook that got me in was like, they do
- 25:47this, um, they're trying to purge the, the ghetto
- 25:49of Area 11 there, and it's pretty fucking brutal.
- 25:53Like, it's not just like, oh, carpet bomb them
- 25:56or whatever. It cuts to them just kicking down
- 25:58doors and executing people in their living rooms.
- 26:00It's kind of wild. Cheaper. Yeah. The plot moves,
- 26:06like, super quick. I'm a little slow, and I had
- 26:10to keep pausing and rewinding. You're used to
- 26:13fucking four episodes of two guys just staring
- 26:15at each other. Yeah. Longing. It was cool. They
- 26:21were scared of this chemical weapon, big bomb
- 26:24thing. And then like some hot chick with green
- 26:26hair falls out of it. Oh, so you met the green
- 26:30chick. Yeah. We don't know a whole lot about
- 26:33her just yet, but we did meet her there. Mysterious
- 26:37green hairy girl. Did she eat pizza already?
- 26:40She loves pizza. I don't think so. No, we haven't
- 26:43seen much of her since that. What do I have a
- 26:47note here? Monologue confusion sorting out on
- 26:49the fly whether Lelouch is dramatic interspeech.
- 26:52Oh, yeah. At the end of the first episode, I
- 26:54thought the whole thing was a flashback at first.
- 26:56This is when I had to like do go on Wikipedia
- 26:58and like piece together some like, what did I
- 27:00fucking miss? What's happening here? Jesus. But
- 27:06it took me through to like the last five minutes
- 27:08of the first episode before I was like, you know
- 27:10what? I think I'll keep watching this. Okay.
- 27:13That's fair. Episode two. is when um uh what
- 27:18happens here you start seeing some like when
- 27:22i started noticing some real tropes i wrote a
- 27:24quote down which is him going i'll need determination
- 27:26to succeed i also swapped to the dub for episode
- 27:33two because it was just too much for me to follow
- 27:36to try to read and see what's going on on screen
- 27:38i missed the freaking this happens in This episode
- 27:43or the next episode? The prince who got assassinated?
- 27:46I fucking, I totally missed it. I didn't even
- 27:48know what happened until I started the next episode.
- 27:50They did the recap, and then I had to go back
- 27:51and be like, did that happen? Is that a thing?
- 27:55Okay, okay, Gramps, keep going. What the hell's
- 28:00going on? But comparing the dub to, I keep the
- 28:04translated subtitles on while I watch the dub,
- 28:06and it's pretty close. They're not changing much
- 28:08of anything. It's pretty much right on. So it's
- 28:12fine. Okay. Uh, at this point, yeah, he's, so
- 28:17he's really cocky. He, all of a sudden he hijacked
- 28:22a fucking mech and now he's like his high tech
- 28:25air conditioned fucking cockpit that he's commanding
- 28:28these other rebels from that they don't even
- 28:30know who he is. Um, so I, my prediction is by
- 28:34episode seven, he's going to get his ass handed
- 28:36to him. Um, he hasn't gotten the, the, the, the
- 28:41gay ass eye yet not at this point oh no no he
- 28:48didn't he didn't get to the end of episode one
- 28:50and that's part of what kept me going too because
- 28:52i wrote it at episode one but doesn't the the
- 28:55green -haired girl gives it to him and you say
- 28:57they haven't shown much it all happens in like
- 29:00the last couple minutes of episode one oh and
- 29:03i'm a sucker for watching someone learn about
- 29:05newfound powers so that was part of the reason
- 29:07like oh okay i'll keep watching this That's a
- 29:10good anime. It just keeps getting better. You
- 29:14know, it just stakes keep getting higher. Situations
- 29:17more complex. You know, smart writing. I think.
- 29:23Yes, very smart. But no, it's fun as I'm pieced.
- 29:27Like I said, I needed some help to get jumpstart
- 29:30my like, okay, I need to know what's happening.
- 29:32Because all of a sudden he's playing chess with
- 29:35some fucking aristocrat. And he's like a hired
- 29:37chess guy or something. Yeah, because he's so
- 29:40smart. Because he's just so smart. Yeah. So episode
- 29:45three is when I start to realize this is 21 Jump
- 29:48Street with fucking mechs. Got it. Lelouch isn't
- 29:58Japanese. Yeah, here's this is where I wrote
- 30:00down some of the Lelouch isn't Japanese. He's
- 30:02Lelouch V. Britannia, the 17th prince of the
- 30:05Holy Britannian Empire. brother clovis that he
- 30:11killed yes um was shocked to see him alive he
- 30:14thought he was dead but he shows up and then
- 30:17kills him um and this is this is see this is
- 30:22where i get a little like thrown off with the
- 30:24realism stuff is because i see guy you know combat
- 30:28fighting mechs and doing all this shit and then
- 30:30in the next scene someone's yelling at him because
- 30:33they forgot he's on classroom cleaning duty today,
- 30:36and he's got to go fucking stack the chairs or
- 30:38whatever. Well, you know, the Japanese, they
- 30:42love tidying up. It doesn't matter. Oh, Callie's
- 30:52the girl. Is that the red -haired girl? Yes.
- 30:57And so we've met her. She doesn't realize that
- 31:00it was him because she's also a rebellion fighter.
- 31:03yeah she's currently going to school pretending
- 31:05she's like fucking retarded or something i don't
- 31:08know that's like that's like her grand cover
- 31:14-up is that she's crippled or something like
- 31:17that she's crippled like in the brain um how'd
- 31:22she get sick oh no sickly she's super she's like
- 31:25dying or something she's always coughing and
- 31:27like but apparently she's super smart But that's
- 31:31her grand cover. Well, good enough to fool the
- 31:36Britannians. Yeah, but they had some fun back
- 31:39and forth. It'll be fun seeing her figure out
- 31:42who this Lelouch guy is. Because she thinks he's
- 31:45just some loser at school right now. Although
- 31:47she saw him somewhere. That makes her think,
- 31:51like, what the hell's going on? Hmm. There might
- 31:54be more of this Lelouch character than initially
- 31:57seemed. I think there might be. But yeah, by
- 32:00that point, I was like, you know what? This is
- 32:02fun. I'll have it on in the back. I definitely,
- 32:05I think I'll finish the first season. I can see
- 32:08myself finishing the first season and then we'll
- 32:10see where we go from there. I think there's a
- 32:12second season or a movie. I don't think it's
- 32:17as good as the first season. And I don't even
- 32:19remember if the story even finished. I don't
- 32:22know. But yeah, definitely watch it. All right.
- 32:24So rating time. How many sad, how many emotional,
- 32:28how damaged did you felt? How much did it damage
- 32:34you? Oh, not damaged. Not damaged. Confused.
- 32:39Okay. I'm giving it, I think I give it a five,
- 32:44five and a half. Wow, that's kind of harsh. I
- 32:48think I'd go to, I think I'd go to eight. Mostly,
- 32:51mostly because I did like it a lot, but the character
- 32:56design and I just hate the fact that the mechs
- 32:59are like on roller skates. I hate that. They
- 33:02just look so damn silly. Stupid skating mechs.
- 33:06You want them to be stomping around? Yeah, fucking
- 33:09run around and shit, you know, like Eva. But
- 33:12you don't see an Evangelion just fucking. sliding
- 33:15around in a fucking roller skate kit. This is
- 33:17fucking ridiculous. But anyway, and I thought
- 33:20the animation could have been a little bit better.
- 33:22I mean, it's from 2006, but I think it could
- 33:26have done. Maybe they had a tight budget. I don't
- 33:29know, but I thought it could have been better.
- 33:31That was part of the, I guess not so much the
- 33:33animation, but I did like some of the character
- 33:35designs and I know he's supposed to be over the
- 33:38top and thick. his poses and stuff but it's like
- 33:41oh that's fun i get the kind of cheesy vibe um
- 33:44yeah i did like that part of it this is a drama
- 33:47queen definitely yeah he likes to make an entrance
- 33:50make a note we've got to talk about it in an
- 33:53episode what the fuck makes good animation because
- 33:55i'm still kind of confused sure i mean you're
- 34:01a fucking uh graphic designer And you don't know
- 34:05what makes good graphics, but... Is it just how
- 34:08many frames per second it is? Is it fucking...
- 34:11I don't know. I think it's more to do with...
- 34:14Because you can make something... Fluid animation
- 34:18does not necessarily depend on frames per second,
- 34:21although sometimes. But it's just, you know,
- 34:24the quality of the backgrounds, the textures,
- 34:27special effects, facial expressions, diversity
- 34:32in... design because sometimes animes you sometimes
- 34:36like the really cheapo animes you can pretty
- 34:38much tell that they use the same fucking background
- 34:40for in every single episode you know there's
- 34:43not much variety stuff like that I think or the
- 34:47ones where they don't move at all it's just a
- 34:48series of still photos or like camera angles
- 34:53you know trying to you know give you different
- 34:55perspectives or points of view instead of the
- 34:59same thing over and over again Probably because
- 35:01it's cheaper. I don't know. That'd be interesting
- 35:03to explore. How much does a budget affect the
- 35:08production quality? I think it's something universal.
- 35:10You know, you see it in movies and plays. Yeah.
- 35:13And sometimes you do see, like, unicorns are,
- 35:15like, you know, zero budget, but they come up
- 35:18with something amazing. Yeah, write that down.
- 35:21I will, yeah. All right, so you gave it an eight.
- 35:25I gave it a five. Eight. Well, the thing is,
- 35:29there's a big difference, though. Because I watched
- 35:34the movie, and that's the whole thing. That's
- 35:36true. That's the complete story. That's true.
- 35:38You've just seen four episodes, and you have
- 35:40no idea the clusterfuck that awaits you. So maybe
- 35:44your rating, I would request that you revise
- 35:47your rating once you finish season one. I will.
- 35:49I'm going to make a note of it right now in my
- 35:52Code K -Ass file here. And I will either update
- 35:58my rating or will revisit my rating when I'm
- 36:02done with season one or when I decide that, you
- 36:04know what, I'm fucking dropping this. It's not
- 36:06fun anymore. Oh. Well, I guess we'll just have
- 36:10to wait and see. We will. But I don't dislike
- 36:14it. And it's definitely not the type of thing
- 36:17I would usually watch. That makes me feel really
- 36:22glad because I know. That's like totally like
- 36:25not your thing. Not totally because you will
- 36:28get some high school drama. Yeah, yeah. And you
- 36:33definitely get some like unrequited romance and
- 36:36stuff like that. You'll see. Okay. All right.
- 36:41The big, the one everyone's been waiting for.
- 36:45Yeah, really. Smoking with my dog behind the
- 36:47fucking liquor store. Yeah, I watched it five
- 36:54episodes. I was doing some Googling to try to
- 36:55find whatever title Google told you about with
- 36:58that pet or whatever, and my AI was like, yeah,
- 37:01no, Ron got caught in a hallucination. I don't
- 37:04know what the fuck you're talking about. I shared
- 37:06my screen. I know. I think that was Google's
- 37:11AI hallucinating. Probably. You know what? Come
- 37:14back tomorrow. I'll research the title and let
- 37:17you know. That's what Google said. Oh, yeah,
- 37:20yeah, exactly. I'm going to do some work. I really
- 37:23need to dig in on this. Yeah, I got some stuff
- 37:26going on, but I'll go back to you in 24 hours.
- 37:30So we said we're going to watch five episodes.
- 37:34Yes. Now, is it fun to start with, will you be
- 37:39watching more now? I don't think I will. I will.
- 37:43Or maybe I will. Okay, do you want to start or
- 37:48do you want me to start? I can start, I guess.
- 37:52Okay, go. I should start putting these into categories.
- 37:56Note for next episode. Because right now I have
- 37:58them kind of by episode, but I'm going to touch
- 38:01on... Speaking of animation visuals, I like the
- 38:04character design and the way they present Sasaki,
- 38:08the main guy, his burnout and stuff with his
- 38:11bags under his eyes and everything. He's just
- 38:14old. Yes, and he's old. Old fuck. It was like
- 38:1840 -something. Kind of my age. Yeah. I'm old.
- 38:23But he's trying to get at that 24 -year -old.
- 38:27Right? Hell yeah. That's it. He's not really
- 38:33trying to. It's a little. So when I see these
- 38:37anime tropes and it's a high schooler going like,
- 38:39well, what does she think this and that? It's
- 38:42like kind of funny and cute. Like, okay, I get
- 38:44it. Can't be forgiven. Yes, but when it's a 40
- 38:47-year -old, I'm like, okay, dude. Yeah, that
- 38:50is retarded. That shit just drives me crazy.
- 38:53How have you managed to reach 40 years old being
- 38:57such a fucking idiot? Jesus. Continue. But I
- 39:07do... Something about the... I like a double...
- 39:11A double... personality i i enjoy her punk persona
- 39:16which i think is her real persona um definitely
- 39:20um so i so i like the the goofiness of like oh
- 39:24hey can't tell it's her because she fucking squints
- 39:28when she's working the register or whatever um
- 39:32i'm surprised that For me, at least, it's all
- 39:40very slow moving. So I'm like, it's five episodes.
- 39:42I thought it might get old after. It's like,
- 39:44yeah, I know. How about you're going to do with
- 39:46smoking cigarettes, talking to some lady? A lot,
- 39:50apparently. It's got me wondering now what the
- 39:56reveal is going to be like. Do you think he's
- 39:59going to find out about the truth before he...
- 40:05ask them out at all? I don't know. I guess that's
- 40:10just what I'm waiting to find out. Okay, so plot
- 40:13synopsis or the premise of this show is this
- 40:1640 -year -old dude who works at some finance
- 40:18company is kind of miserable because I don't
- 40:21think he's that miserable because of his job
- 40:23because I think he's pretty good at his job and
- 40:25people respect him. And, you know, he's got people
- 40:27working under him. Yeah, the boss leaves and
- 40:29puts him in charge and everything. Yeah, the
- 40:31boss is kind of an asshole but he values him,
- 40:34I think. But the main thing comes from, he's
- 40:39miserable because he's lonely. And to get any
- 40:43sort of connection, he, you know, after work
- 40:47every single day, he goes by this convenience
- 40:50store and he talks to this, and he lines up,
- 40:52he manages to line up in the cash register where
- 40:56Yamada, Kanaka, I'm terrible at names, I'm sorry.
- 41:01Yamada, yes. Yamada is her. It's her other name.
- 41:06Tiamat is what she calls herself when she's in
- 41:07the back. This 20 -something -year -old girl
- 41:10that works at the convenience store, she's really
- 41:12kind to him. And, you know, it's kind of like
- 41:14an unspoken ritual of his to swing by the convenience
- 41:19store, buy whatever, just to get a look at her
- 41:23and, you know, exchange pleasantries. Not even
- 41:28pleasantries. The only thing they talk about
- 41:30in the beginning is... Here's your stuff. Here's
- 41:32your card. Here's your receipt. Thank you. Good
- 41:34night. You know, but that fucking lights up his
- 41:37day apparently. And then, uh, I don't remember
- 41:40how, but, uh, he exits, he exits the convenience
- 41:44store and notices and wants to smoke a cigarette.
- 41:47Yeah. So there's this girl, he notices this girl
- 41:50behind the, uh, yeah. Cause he starts smoking
- 41:53and like someone walking by is like, Oh gross.
- 41:57And like says something and he's like, fuck,
- 41:58I can't smoke anywhere. Um, And then there's
- 42:01this bombshell behind the supermarket. The smoke
- 42:07show. Leather jacket, like a thousand earrings.
- 42:12She talks like she don't give a shit. Like she
- 42:15don't give a damn. And it's actually the same
- 42:20girl from the cash register. But he doesn't know
- 42:23it. He can't tell them. For some fucking reason,
- 42:27it's like this girl is Clark Kent. She takes
- 42:30out her earrings and puts on that little handkerchief
- 42:32on her head and boom. Yeah. She's a completely
- 42:36different person. And they kind of start striking
- 42:39up some sort of friendship. And then people from
- 42:42the store, other people from the store get involved.
- 42:44The lady's boss, who immediately catches up on
- 42:48what's going on. Immediately, instantaneously.
- 42:52Well, because that's part of it, too, is he's
- 42:54pretty open. he's pretty open with this new girl
- 42:57about, um, cause she, she's like, Oh yeah, you
- 43:01always line up for what's her faces register.
- 43:03And she gets it out of them pretty easy that
- 43:06he's like, yeah, you know, I kind of like her,
- 43:07I guess. Um, so the, the dynamic is instantly
- 43:12like, she knows a lot more about him than she
- 43:14does than he does about her. Definitely. I guess
- 43:18that shows you how lonely this guy is. You know,
- 43:20he's like desperate to open up with someone.
- 43:23Yeah. First person that pays any attention to
- 43:26him because we don't, I mean, he doesn't really
- 43:28have friends at work. He has that dude who speaks
- 43:32a lot at work, but he's not really a friend.
- 43:34Yeah, he's just kind of an annoying asshole.
- 43:38Yeah. But we don't see him interact with any
- 43:41family or other friends or nothing. Yeah, no.
- 43:45Nobody but these two people at the convenience
- 43:49store. Yeah. his little harem of the convenience
- 43:52store. Yeah. But yeah, the main thing for me
- 43:55was just, I can't, it's just fucking beyond stupid
- 43:58how this guy is not going to be able to tell
- 44:00that they're the same girl. And the girl's kind
- 44:02of, you know, she's kind of fucked up. She's
- 44:04just, she's toying with them basically. But she
- 44:07really likes him. She does, yeah. She's, she's,
- 44:11she's nervous about it in her own different way.
- 44:15Yeah. There's got to be something about not,
- 44:19I think it's – well, she gets put in a weird
- 44:21position where he likes her persona that she
- 44:26puts on at the register, but he does not look
- 44:29at her other persona, her real persona, like
- 44:36that at all. Like, there's that time when she
- 44:38tries to show off her shirt she's wearing and
- 44:42her cute little midriff or whatever, and he's
- 44:44like, oh, aren't you cold? And she gets, like,
- 44:46offended by it. She's like, you went all fucking
- 44:48– You creamed yourself when What's -Her -Face
- 44:52wore short sleeves, and then I show you my fucking
- 44:55pussy, and you're like, oh, what the hell? Well,
- 44:58I mean, he did get kind of, like, you know, flustered
- 45:02by it. But I guess you're right. He doesn't see
- 45:05her in the same romantic light as he does Yamada.
- 45:11Yeah, I think that's starting to change. But
- 45:13he's warming up. He's warming up to her. Yeah,
- 45:16at the end of these five episodes, I think that's
- 45:18starting to change, which is... But that's the
- 45:22thing I want to keep watching. What's this girl's
- 45:26endgame? We know Sasuke. Is that the guy's name?
- 45:30Yes. We know he's a complete fucking idiot. He
- 45:33can't tell fucking that it's the same girl. He's
- 45:36just an idiot. He's just, you know, dumbstruck
- 45:39by this girl. But the girl, Yamada... she knows
- 45:45what she's doing. And I don't know if she started
- 45:47doing it as, you know, just to fuck with him
- 45:50or because she's somehow, or because when she
- 45:54goes out behind the supermarket and smoke, that's
- 45:57she, that's the way that's, I guess the anime
- 46:00is way of letting you know that this persona
- 46:02she puts up in the store is not really her. And
- 46:05she wants to like this, the smoke breaks her
- 46:07an opportunity for her to free up and be who
- 46:10she really is. Yeah. And maybe she's conflicted
- 46:14about the fact that he hasn't or there hasn't
- 46:17been a chance for them to connect inside the
- 46:21store. But they managed to connect outside the
- 46:24store. So she's kind of conflicted that who does
- 46:28this guy really like? Does she like Yamada girl
- 46:31or Tanaka or whatever her name is outside the
- 46:34store? Yeah, exactly. I was about to say, like,
- 46:38I think she almost doesn't want them to have
- 46:39a moment like that inside the store because.
- 46:42She would like to actually, you know, have a
- 46:44relationship with him, which means her real self.
- 46:48You know what I mean? I guess it's more of a,
- 46:52I guess, yeah, what's going to happen when, because
- 46:55there's definitely going to be a reveal. I mean,
- 46:57she's not going to reveal it to him. He, I think,
- 47:01he will find out on his own through some fucking
- 47:04miracle because the guy's a fucking moron. I
- 47:07don't know how he'll do it. She'll probably slip
- 47:09up and he'll catch her. That's the thing. Lighter
- 47:15or something falls out of her pocket or some
- 47:16shit. Is she going to feel, you know, are we
- 47:22going to get that moment where the guy feels
- 47:24betrayed by her? Probably. And I was thinking
- 47:30this is just what I'd like to see, why I want
- 47:34to keep watching because I think it'll be entertaining.
- 47:38Before the reveal, there's got to be some little
- 47:40arc where, like, he starts doing things outside
- 47:44of behind the supermarket with both of them maybe
- 47:47even at the same time. And then he's like, fuck,
- 47:49I'm two -timing this girl. Wow. Not realizing
- 47:52it's the same lady. That would be fucking retarded.
- 47:58That'd be just the epitome of retardation. No?
- 48:04I thought it'd be funny. We'll see. Just, you
- 48:08know, just naturally like not dating or anything,
- 48:11but they'll hang out because him and because
- 48:15he is starting to talk more to the inside personality,
- 48:17too. He'll invite her somewhere and she'll be
- 48:20like, oh, I guess I have to show up as fucking
- 48:21Yamada. And then she'll invite him somewhere
- 48:27as her real self, Tayama. And. Yeah, I think
- 48:34there'll be some balancing act there. That'll
- 48:37be fun. I guess I've never watched an anime with
- 48:41a character four years old, except for that.
- 48:44There's one in Prime Video that's called The
- 48:47Old Town or Small Town Bumpkin Goes to the Big
- 48:51City or something about a sword master from some
- 48:53small village going to the capital and becoming
- 48:55the lead professor in the training. I don't know.
- 48:59It's kind of cool. You should watch it. Okay.
- 49:03What I've seen from Tanaka Sasaki is that he's
- 49:07a pretty mature person in the terms of understanding
- 49:09other people. So whenever the truth comes out
- 49:14about Yamada or whatever, I don't think it's
- 49:17going to be one of those typical teenager reactions
- 49:20where he's like, oh, no, you bitch, you lied
- 49:22to me. I hate you. Maybe he'll be more understanding
- 49:24because he has shown, you know, he does offer
- 49:27sometimes advice or a different perspective to.
- 49:32What's the smoke girl persona's name? Jesus.
- 49:36Tayama. Tayama. He sometimes, you know, gives
- 49:39her advice that does sound like something that
- 49:42would come from an older person that a younger
- 49:44person would appreciate. Yeah. It's kind of a
- 49:47thing with this anime as well. So maybe it's
- 49:51not going to be that dramatic. Maybe it's going
- 49:53to be a very understanding moment, probably.
- 49:56I don't know. He'd almost be more introspective
- 49:59and be like, that's hardly the way. you know
- 50:01weirder than the weirdest thing i've fucking
- 50:02done i was showing up stalking you uh you know
- 50:06at the store every day in your lane um yeah you
- 50:10i think i think you could be right there i mean
- 50:13we'll be surprised but not like betrayed yeah
- 50:18surprised maybe a little embarrassed because
- 50:21he's like oh you mean all those times i said
- 50:23how much i how cute i thought yabba was and stuff
- 50:26that was i was talking to you yeah But I do think
- 50:30they have some room to milk it a little bit.
- 50:35So, yeah. I mean, not my usual kind of stuff,
- 50:39but I liked it. I mean, I'll keep watching. I
- 50:42want to find out how the story ends for sure.
- 50:45Yeah. I'll show. What do you give in the first
- 50:48five episodes? Six out of ten. Mostly because
- 50:55it's a pretty down -to -earth anime. So, it's
- 50:58like, you know. You're not going to see any flashy
- 51:00thing or crazy character design. It's just basically...
- 51:04And it's just the story unfolds in his office
- 51:07and the convenience store. That's pretty much
- 51:09it. And I just hate, hate characters. They're
- 51:13so fucking dumb. They can't fucking tell what's
- 51:15going on. I just fucking hate that. And this
- 51:17guy is just fucking, you know, at the top of
- 51:19fucking retarded anime characters I've ever seen.
- 51:22How can you not tell it's the same fucking girl?
- 51:24Jesus. So I give it a 6 out of 10. But I'm intrigued.
- 51:28Like I said before, maybe I'll revise my rating
- 51:33once I finish it, but we'll see. We still haven't
- 51:35seen the pet. Where's the dog? Yeah, exactly.
- 51:38Where's the dog? I thought it would make an appearance
- 51:40by now. What's up with that? Yeah. We're halfway
- 51:43through the season, I think. I like six. I was
- 51:47thinking more I'd probably go seven, just purely
- 51:50on the fact that it's a little bit more up my
- 51:52alley, so I like it a little better. But I think
- 51:55that's a pretty good number for it. Okay. Let's
- 51:58settle on six and a half. All right. We're doing,
- 52:00we're doing half. We're doing halves. Okay. I
- 52:02didn't know we had to come to like a, I thought
- 52:04we both got to have our own scores. We have to
- 52:06come to a, a consensus. I don't know. I just
- 52:11thought of that just right now. Okay. Well then
- 52:13what's our, then we got better go back and fight
- 52:15it out over five centimeters. No, because that's
- 52:19a, that's, that's something you recommended to
- 52:22me. And vice versa for Code Gay Ass, but this
- 52:26is something we're watching together for the
- 52:27first time. Okay, okay. And you gotta assume
- 52:31that if you recommend something to me, it's because
- 52:35you really, really like it and you really think
- 52:37I should watch it. I might recommend you something
- 52:40that I think is absolutely fucking stupid and
- 52:43I just want to hear you talk about it. That's
- 52:45valid. I mean, maybe I'll watch it and I'll be
- 52:49like, dude, this is fucking amazing what you're
- 52:50talking about. Could happen. It could. So what
- 52:57are we going to talk about for the rest of the
- 52:58episode? A group thing. I think that's about
- 53:02wraps it up for this one. We're going to fucking.
- 53:05Did you think about homework for next week? No.
- 53:10I hadn't really either. We got to keep watching.
- 53:12We got to keep watching the ped behind the supermarket.
- 53:15Oh, yeah, definitely. We'll keep up with that.
- 53:16We'll do the next five episodes, probably. And
- 53:18I think you're invested in Code Gay Ass, so I
- 53:21don't know if you want to. I will tell you to
- 53:23watch Freerun. Thanks to Zach Flakes, I got to
- 53:25watch the second season. I think you'd really
- 53:27be into the second season. I really liked the
- 53:30first season because it was a lot of action.
- 53:32You're watching Freerun? Yeah, yeah. I'm only
- 53:34on the first season right now, but I am liking
- 53:35it. This global phenomenon. Is it really popular?
- 53:40I think so. I was talking to someone at work
- 53:45who's a pretty passive anime fan, and he really
- 53:49likes it. He doesn't watch every new thing, but
- 53:54it came into his view, and he's watching it,
- 53:58and he's like, oh, yeah, I really like it. I
- 54:01kind of always gauge how popular an anime is
- 54:03by how much cosplay and porn there is from it.
- 54:09Shall we do some research now? I've done plenty
- 54:14of research in the past, my friend. But I think
- 54:17it is pretty popular. It's a pretty good show.
- 54:21It's smart in the way that magic is treated almost
- 54:25like a science, where they research it and study
- 54:29it and improve it and experiment with it. I really
- 54:33like that aspect of it. Yeah, the magic system's
- 54:36cool. And the part I'm sure you will love, I
- 54:41don't know how far you are into the first season,
- 54:43but Freirein is an immortal elf. And she's only
- 54:48just begun to, like, appreciate humans and the
- 54:54interactions with humans. Maybe because she grew
- 54:57up alone. Yeah. And realizing what it means for
- 55:01their lives to be so short. Exactly. So that's
- 55:05pretty. That's pretty engaging as well. Yeah,
- 55:09as like a fantasy D &D nerd dude, I never thought
- 55:13about that with elves. Because a lot of times
- 55:16they're canonically like either immortal or very
- 55:18long living. And I had never even crossed my
- 55:23mind about like, oh yeah, what's it like when
- 55:24the elf and the best friend humans and he dies
- 55:27and then she just goes on for another 700 years.
- 55:30Exactly. So, yeah, that's why I am liking it.
- 55:35Well, you get a little bit of that from Lord
- 55:37of the Rings, though. Remember Arwen? Oh, because
- 55:40what's -his -face is the Dunedain or whatever
- 55:42the fuck? He's immortal. You've got an elf that
- 55:46falls in love with a mortal man, and her dad
- 55:49is like, what are you going to do when this dude
- 55:51dies? Yeah. Of course, the answer in Lord of
- 55:54the Rings is that they have a kid, so she'll
- 55:58have his kid. Family. But I guess some of that
- 56:04drips onto Frearing. What is an elf to do when
- 56:07all her friends around her die? Yeah, because,
- 56:11I mean, she didn't even have elf friends or whatever.
- 56:14No. With her, it's like, well, he dies, I got
- 56:17a whole elf family, and we'll all fucking deal
- 56:19with it. But that's all she knew was her buddies,
- 56:22and they're all dropping like flies. Yeah, elves
- 56:25are very rare. There's more demons than fucking
- 56:28elves, I think. Yeah, it's a pretty good show.
- 56:32And second season is a lot slower. Not much happens.
- 56:35A lot of dialogue, a lot of character development.
- 56:37Ooh, even better. Yeah, so I think you'll like
- 56:40season two. But it's very short, though. It's
- 56:42only like 10 episodes. What's the first season?
- 56:47Is it more than that? I think it's like 26, 27.
- 56:49Oh, it's like a full, full, like, old school
- 56:51season. Okay. Yep. Oh, and on the Code Gayass
- 56:56thing, like, yeah, I'm going to keep watching
- 56:58it, but if you want to... I can throw something
- 56:59else. I'm not actively watching anything else,
- 57:01really. Witch Hat Atelier is almost over, I think.
- 57:04Okay. Must watch. Another must watch. Gotta watch
- 57:08Evangelion. We can't really go forward as if
- 57:11we both haven't watched Evangelion. Pretty much.
- 57:14Is it the best anime ever made? Let's ask Google.
- 57:17Is Evangelion the best anime of all time? There
- 57:21you go. Suggest it. Google says yes. No, it doesn't.
- 57:26No, it says, whether Neon Genesis Evangelion
- 57:29is the best anime of all time is a matter of
- 57:31personal opinion, but it is widely ranked among
- 57:34the greatest and most important series ever made.
- 57:39Gotta watch it. Yeah, I do. Well, I will watch
- 57:42Evangelion. White people call it the best. Deep
- 57:45themes. Cultural impact. Oh. Confusing endings.
- 57:51Yeah. There you go. That's right. I need to work
- 57:55that out because there's like the original series,
- 57:57but then they retconned the last two episodes
- 57:59or something, right? Yeah, just watch the series
- 58:02and then you watch the movie. That's pretty much
- 58:04all you need. And then you got to read up about
- 58:06the whole, I mean, you got to read up about the
- 58:09whole story. I mean, there's like a fucking whole
- 58:11story that happens, you know, that's going on
- 58:15and doesn't really ever get talked about on the
- 58:17anime. It'll help you, you know, close all loops.
- 58:22Oh, where does that take place? You know, thousands
- 58:26of years before in the beginning of time at the
- 58:29same time in the future. Or am I just fucking
- 58:32reading fanfic? I think it's from a video game
- 58:36they made out of it or something. Yeah. All right.
- 58:41Well, I will start on that project. The lore.
- 58:44Maybe that'll have to be a running thing. We'll
- 58:47have to check in on where I'm at in the Evangelion
- 58:49journey. Oh yeah. It's a good one. Cause it was
- 58:54older. So it's one season probably has 20 some
- 58:57odd episodes. I imagine. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. And
- 59:02do you have anything for me? Yeah. I'm going
- 59:04to tell you to watch, um, Tora Dora. Jesus. Let
- 59:11me write it down. I think it's on Zach clicks.
- 59:14It is. I need to make sure it's correct on there.
- 59:17It was giving me some trouble before I like actually
- 59:19downloaded a bunch of, the french one or some
- 59:21in one point must watch it like that odyssey
- 59:24movie i was like five minutes into it i was like
- 59:27wait a second is that why i haven't watched it
- 59:30yet was it i thought it was when you said it
- 59:31was not the real odyssey i thought it might be
- 59:33the one from the 60s or whatever oh no it's not
- 59:36from the 60s it's definitely more modern but
- 59:38it's just you know they had a budget like 100
- 59:40bucks and i think it's one of those movies where
- 59:42like the director is the lead actor and the editor
- 59:45and his wife is playing the three characters
- 59:48and she's also doing the lighting And then a
- 59:51friend of them is like doing the camera work
- 59:53and some dude from Fiverr is doing the special
- 59:55effects. It's just no bueno, man. I'll have to
- 59:59check it out. No, no. Don't recommend it. You
- 1:00:03do. So, yeah, I recommend Toradora. It's another.
- 1:00:07It's not. It's not. It doesn't try to be heavy
- 1:00:09like fucking five centimeters or whatever. I
- 1:00:13think it's genuinely funny. If you stick with
- 1:00:16it, I really enjoyed the cute little romance,
- 1:00:19and it hits pretty hard towards the end once
- 1:00:22things start really rolling. With happy tears,
- 1:00:26it's cute. Speaking of romance, I've been watching
- 1:00:32Vermeule in Gold. I saw that, actually. One time
- 1:00:35I logged in, and it's like, because when I'm
- 1:00:37on the dashboard of it, it can tell me who else
- 1:00:39is on, and it said you were watching some episode
- 1:00:41of Vermeule in Gold. Are you liking it? Kind
- 1:00:45of. I mean, I went over to Sackflix and I was
- 1:00:48like, hmm, what anime should I watch now that
- 1:00:50I have this whole fucking slew of content at
- 1:00:53my disposal? And I was like, let's look at these
- 1:00:57thumbnails and find out what title has the chick
- 1:01:03with the biggest tits in it. And it happened
- 1:01:06to be Vermilion Gold. And it's, well, there's
- 1:01:09a lot of the Batgirl's tits in it. It's not that
- 1:01:13bad. No, not really. She's a demon. Demon. Yes.
- 1:01:19And she falls in love with a 14 -year -old boy.
- 1:01:25Yeah. And part of the dynamic is that they have
- 1:01:28to, you know, get freaky in order for her to
- 1:01:32suck his mana. Suck his mana. Yeah, that's right.
- 1:01:36I forgot about that. I don't know if they're
- 1:01:39actually having sex or just kissing or just snuggling,
- 1:01:42but something's going on there that this fucking
- 1:01:45hundreds -year -old demon is doing with this
- 1:01:4814 -year -old boy. Oh, man. I'd kill to be that
- 1:01:54boy. But anyway. Yeah, and they're at a school
- 1:01:56where everyone can summon a familiar, but he's
- 1:02:00the only person who's ever summoned a full -grown
- 1:02:03human or some shit. Yeah, it's like Harry Potter
- 1:02:07where you have to have a magical pet. You know
- 1:02:10how Harry had a... The owl. Oh, my God. I almost
- 1:02:14said lettuce. Yeah, yeah. In Spanish, you got
- 1:02:21two words for an owl. You can say búho or you
- 1:02:26can say lechuza. Depends on when you're from.
- 1:02:29Oh, like lechuga. And I got confused with lechuga,
- 1:02:33which is lettuce. What was the first one? Boo?
- 1:02:36Boo. Boo. I think that just comes from the sound
- 1:02:40they make. Boo. Boo. They don't say that. They
- 1:02:43say hoot. Hoot. That's because you're American.
- 1:02:48Just like cats don't say nyan or whatever the
- 1:02:50fuck. They say meow. They say meow. That's universal.
- 1:02:56Well, at least in Spanish it's also meow. Oh,
- 1:02:58in Japanese it's nyan. N -Y -A -N. They're crazy.
- 1:03:04They got two nukes dropped on them. Whole fucking
- 1:03:07country's fucking messed up, dude. That's fucked
- 1:03:13up, man. How would your society be if you got
- 1:03:15two fucking nukes dropped on you? Fucking grew
- 1:03:19up with some crazy ideas, I'll tell you. Wow.
- 1:03:25There you have it, folks. Maybe cats in Japan
- 1:03:28do sound like that. Maybe. Walking all crooked.
- 1:03:34I was reading about, I don't know how many years
- 1:03:41ago, that basically your capacity for expressing
- 1:03:44yourself and expressing your ideas is pretty
- 1:03:49much limited by your language. You can't really
- 1:03:52say, express, or think, or write something beyond
- 1:03:58the words that you know. Very true. I can't write
- 1:04:02words that I don't know exist. Exactly. Or feelings
- 1:04:06or articulate sentences or ideas that your language
- 1:04:10does not permit you to. And so there are some
- 1:04:13limitations. There are some advantages to each
- 1:04:16language. Like, for example, English is pretty
- 1:04:21good at creating very concise, descriptive, and
- 1:04:27to -the -point phrases and sentences. That you
- 1:04:31can do in Spanish, but it will take you a couple
- 1:04:33more words, and they would not hit as direct
- 1:04:35to the point as they do in English. That's why
- 1:04:38English poetry kind of sucks, but Spanish poetry
- 1:04:41is just absolutely beautiful. Let's hear it.
- 1:04:45Are you going to do a reading for us? Do you
- 1:04:48want me to? Sure. No, I don't know any poetry.
- 1:04:52La cucaracha. I'm just talking out of my ass.
- 1:04:54La cucaracha. I will have you know. La cucaracha.
- 1:04:58Nicaragua was a piece of shit country, but we
- 1:05:01did give birth to the father of modernism and
- 1:05:06literature. Really? Yeah, pretty cool guy. Who's
- 1:05:11that? Ruben Darío. Ruben Darío? Yeah, look him
- 1:05:17up. He's a big deal. Big deal. Big deal. Oh,
- 1:05:22look at him with his little hat. Oh, look at
- 1:05:25that. He was a... Drunk womanizer asshole, but
- 1:05:29he wrote some pretty cool poems. Modernismo.
- 1:05:34Damn. Very cool. Hello, kitty. Mm -hmm. So, yeah.
- 1:05:40So, there's definitely some traction to the idea
- 1:05:43of you're limited or you can only express the
- 1:05:45things that you see and feel, you know, depending
- 1:05:49on the language you speak. So, maybe Japanese,
- 1:05:52a cat's sound comes out as nian. Yeah. But in
- 1:05:57English and Spanish is meow. Yeah. Because the
- 1:05:59sounds we know how to make and, you know, we
- 1:06:02can hear anything, but then we're limited by
- 1:06:04the sounds we can produce by, because of the
- 1:06:06language we are programmed with. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:09We don't have any problems. That's why it's also,
- 1:06:11that's why it's almost, or that's why it's also
- 1:06:13cool to learn other languages. It allows you
- 1:06:15to expand your, the capacity or the breadth of
- 1:06:20your expression. It does. All right, that was...
- 1:06:26Okay. Cool. We've got to learn Japanese, dude.
- 1:06:33Deep pontifications with Ron. That's how we end
- 1:06:36every episode. Stay damaged. Oh, yeah. Yeah,
- 1:06:41thanks for watching. Ron's going to watch Toradora.
- 1:06:44Thanks for listening. Ron's going to watch Toradora.
- 1:06:46I'm going to start my Eva journey. And we're
- 1:06:50both going to smoke behind the supermarket some
- 1:06:53more. With a pet. With a pet. Yeah. Stay damaged.
