- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. Ready for episode 90? Luna: Wow, 90 episodes! That's amazing. I'm totally ready. What are we learning today? Lucas: We've covered numbers, colors, family, food — but we haven't done the full set of days of the week yet. So today, all seven days in Swahili. Luna: Oh, perfect! I know we did some days before, but I always mix up the middle ones. Lucas: Exactly, this will lock them in. Let's start with Monday. In Swahili, Monday is Jumatatu. Luna: Jumatatu. Lucas: Good! Jumatatu. Tuesday is Jumanne. Luna: Jumanne. That sounds a bit like Jumatatu but with 'nne'. Lucas: Right! Jumatatu has 'tatu' meaning three, and Jumanne has 'nne' meaning four. So Monday is like day three, Tuesday like day four. Then Wednesday is Jumatano. Luna: Jumatano. So that has 'tano' for five? Lucas: You're catching on! Jumatano. Now Thursday is a bit different — Alhamisi. Luna: Alhamisi. That one's unique. No number in it? Lucas: Exactly, it comes from Arabic. Alhamisi. Then Friday is Ijumaa. Luna: Ijumaa. That's a nice word. Lucas: Saturday is Jumamosi. Luna: Jumamosi. And Sunday is Jumapili, right? Lucas: Yes! Jumapili. So let's run through them all: Jumatatu, Jumanne, Jumatano, Alhamisi, Ijumaa, Jumamosi, Jumapili. Luna: Jumatatu, Jumanne, Jumatano, Alhamisi, Ijumaa, Jumamosi, Jumapili. Lucas: That was great! Now let's use them in a sentence. What day is it today? Luna: Uhh... Leo ni Jumatatu? Lucas: Exactly. Leo ni Jumatatu. 'Today is Monday'. Now you try: today is Wednesday. Luna: Leo ni Jumatano. Lucas: Perfect. Now, what about 'Tomorrow is Friday'? Luna: Kesho ni Ijumaa. Lucas: Yes! Kesho ni Ijumaa. And 'Yesterday was Sunday'? Luna: Jana ilikuwa Jumapili. Lucas: Excellent! Jana ilikuwa Jumapili. You're nailing the days. Luna: This is so helpful. Now I can plan my week in Swahili! Lucas: Exactly. And speaking of planning — you know, we're able to keep making these episodes because some listeners support us through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Let me ask you: what's your favorite day of the week? Luna: Yeah, I think Jumamosi — Saturday. No work, just relaxing. Lucas: Good choice. So 'Siku yangu ni Jumamosi' — my day is Saturday. What about you, listener? What's your favorite day? Luna: Let's do a quick drill. Lucas, say a day, and I'll say the next one. Start with Jumatatu. Lucas: Jumatatu. Luna: Jumanne. Lucas: Jumatano. Luna: Alhamisi. Lucas: Ijumaa. Luna: Jumamosi. Lucas: Jumapili. And back to Jumatatu. Great job! Luna: Now I feel like I can actually remember them all. Jumatatu, Jumanne, Jumatano, Alhamisi, Ijumaa, Jumamosi, Jumapili. Lucas: That's the full week. Keep practicing, and try using them in sentences like 'Leo ni...' or 'Kesho ni...'. Luna: Will do. Thanks, Lucas. This was a fun episode. Lucas: You're welcome. And thanks to all our listeners.
