- 0:05For much of my childhood I did not believe in witch goblins or anything that
- 0:10was paranormal, as my two parents considered themselves atheists and raised me that way.
- 0:17Honestly, I think I would have liked to know all the possibilities rather
- 0:23than just shut myself up in what science could prove, since at the age
- 0:27of thirteen, I, along with my family, live something that still torments
- 0:30us to this day. Back then in my house we were my dad,
- 0:37my mom, my brother, who was barely a few months old and I
- 0:42and as far as I knew we had no more family. It wasn'
- 0:47t something I' d asked, either, but since I remembered, we
- 0:52weren' t going to family reunions or parties. However, all this changed
- 0:55one day when my parents returned from school and told me that we would go
- 0:59to the village where my father grew up, as my grandfather had organized a
- 1:04huge party for his eighty years and wanted us to go. I was so
- 1:11surprised that I couldn' t help but ask my father because we' d
- 1:15never seen Grandpa or because we were going right then. But my dad didn
- 1:19' t tell me much. He wandered for a moment and gave me to
- 1:23understand that they always had very different ideals and that over time, those ideals
- 1:29were separating them more and more to the point of practically breaking their relationship,
- 1:34but that they might well try to amend it at that time. At first,
- 1:40that gave me a little bit of the same. However, as soon
- 1:42as we started the trip, I realized that we were basically going to the
- 1:47tip of the world. It was too remote a place, of which I
- 1:52prefer not to say the name for security reasons, but it was many hours
- 1:56of travel and, moreover, it was such a hidden place that there was
- 2:00no phone signal or much less Internet. I think the strange thing started to
- 2:06happen from the moment we got out of the car, because although my grandfather
- 2:09at first seemed very happy as soon as he noticed my brother Baby paled immediately
- 2:15and became very serious. He turned to see my father and in deep seriousness
- 2:20asked him if that child was baptized. My father tried to contain his opinions
- 2:27and we could notice that. As I said before, he was an atheist
- 2:30and was unwilling for his children to be baptized with any religion as far as
- 2:36I knew if he was baptized. Apparently, my mom had done it under
- 2:40pressure from some of her friends, who wanted to be my christening madrinas.
- 2:46Actually, it wasn' t a ceremony with great significance for my parents.
- 2:51It was something else they did as a kind of gift to my mom'
- 2:55s friends. But anyway, my father only looked at my grandfather and replied
- 3:00that he had not yet been baptized. Although I was hoping that my grandfather
- 3:05would only accept it, the truth is that it got a little bad and
- 3:08strange. He began to tell my father that he was too irresponsible to have
- 3:14taken a child to that place without being baptized. I remember very well that
- 3:20he told her that he already knew perfectly what was going on with the children
- 3:24who were not baptized and that if something bad happened to that child, it
- 3:30would be all his fault. And he even told him that it would be
- 3:31best for us to go back to our city at that time if he didn
- 3:38' t want something terrible to happen to him Dad also argued with him for
- 3:44a very long time, telling him that all that was nothing more or less
- 3:46than beliefs of that small town and that, besides that, all the deaths
- 3:51of the children who had passed through the years might well have an explanation.
- 3:54He told them that everything in this life had an explanation and that we would
- 4:00leave there only for superstitions and that, besides, he was sure that nothing
- 4:04would happen to his son, although Grandpa was not at all happy with his
- 4:10answer. Dad' s stubbornness made it impossible for us to go back to
- 4:15the city that day, so we stayed at first. Everything was normal.
- 4:20For me it was rather boring, since there was nothing to do in that
- 4:26place, although a couple of hours later I was introduced to a cousin of
- 4:30mine, who was exactly my age. I didn' t know her at
- 4:34all and she didn' t know me either, but we were still able
- 4:40to make a friendship and I should even say I was having a good time.
- 4:43In fact, I remember that at some point when I was talking to
- 4:46her, I asked her what she believed people in the village related to children
- 4:50who were not baptized, because I had been left with that intrigue. She
- 4:56looked at me and told me that there were many witches in that village,
- 5:00who came down from the hill at midnight and took away all the children who
- 5:04were not baptized. And that at best, because on some other occasions they
- 5:10only went into the houses and sucked all the blood out of the baby,
- 5:15leaving it completely empty without a single drop of blood. I' m skeptical
- 5:21of all the parenting I' ve had throughout those thirteen years of my life.
- 5:26I told her that could not be possible, that the witches did not
- 5:30exist, but she insisted and told me that that was real, that she
- 5:33had seen them at night you could see them as fireballs jumping through the hills.
- 5:41But the worst thing was to see them if they were very close already
- 5:46transformed into people. He told me that they looked awful, that he had
- 5:49seen one that had sores all over his body and on his face too,
- 5:55that his eyes were not human. He said that they looked like some animals
- 5:58and that, in addition to that, they could be transformed into dogs,
- 6:03coyotes and even his father told him that he saw them transform into goats without
- 6:09any hair. His eyes shone and his snout dropped a kind of blackish drool
- 6:13that rotted the grass. I kept insisting that this could not be possible.
- 6:19Besides, I thought he was kidding me, since I wasn' t from
- 6:23there and it would be very easy to fool me, but what I didn
- 6:28' t know was that I didn' t believe any of those things,
- 6:31so I kept saying that I didn' t believe him. In the end,
- 6:34she told me that at night she would tell me when she saw them
- 6:39through the window so that she would give the fireballs between the hills. I
- 6:44told him I was fine and even though I wanted to see something inside me,
- 6:48I just wanted to find the logical explanation for that event. I thought
- 6:54maybe they could be some lights from people living on the hill or maybe some
- 6:59pyrotechnicist throwing pyrotechnics to scare the population. After we agreed, we went to
- 7:05the party with the others to see how we could help. The party was
- 7:12pretty good. Dad and Grandpa seemed to be reconnecting. I guess they both
- 7:16missed each other in their own way. I remember well that some people at
- 7:20the party, when they learned that my brother was not baptized, began to
- 7:26tie some slats in his fists saying that it would be like some kind of
- 7:31protection and they hoped it would work. Mom and Dad. At first they
- 7:34opposed it, but eventually they decided they couldn' t swim against the current,
- 7:41so they left them. If that gave them peace of mind, it
- 7:44was fine. In the end, all the adults were too drunk and my
- 7:49mom had laid my brother in a bed in the house. My cousin and
- 7:54I keep talking about different things, even though I was the one who talked
- 7:59the most. She was very fascinated by my life in the city and all
- 8:03the great things there were, and I remember that when they gave twelve,
- 8:07I had already completely forgotten what she had told me about warning me to see
- 8:11the so- called witches, but she had not forgotten. So he told
- 8:16me to look out the window at that moment so we could see them.
- 8:22We got up and went to the window. He told me they' d
- 8:26show up any minute, but about fifteen minutes passed without anything happening, and
- 8:31even I started laughing at her for not having been able to see what she
- 8:37wanted so much. However, just as we were about to move away from
- 8:41the window through the corner of my eye, I came to see a flash
- 8:46I turned and indeed, there was not only one, but several fireballs.
- 8:50At first I thought they were perhaps like those balloons of Cantoya, but very
- 8:56quickly I realized that they could not be, because the flare looked very latent,
- 9:01so unless they were burning, they could not be and not only that,
- 9:05but they moved in a very conscious way. It was inexplicable. We
- 9:13both watched that light show for several minutes, until suddenly we heard something fell
- 9:18into the room where my brother was. So I went fast to see what
- 9:26was going on and if my brother was okay. However, what I found
- 9:30was totally horrible. A woman had him in her arms, but she wasn
- 9:35' t any of my aunts. She was an unknown woman, with a
- 9:39face full of blisters, of a terrifying appearance and her eyes were of a
- 9:43phosphorescent green, very strange. Almost immediately I screamed in terror to alert my
- 9:50parents, but at that moment that woman ran to me pushing me so hard
- 9:56that I ventured almost a metre carrying my brother in her arms. After that
- 10:01he went out a window. My parents, alarmed by my screams, ran
- 10:07to try to find her, but they couldn' t see anything because of
- 10:11the darkness, as I hadn' t even lit up public in that place.
- 10:16I think we were all trying to track her down until I finally saw
- 10:20something. He was a huge dog and he was carrying my brother in the
- 10:26snout holding him by one arm. He cried and twisted quickly. I alerted
- 10:31everyone. All the adults ran to try to rescue him, but that animal
- 10:37was much faster than we were. He got lost in the dark and,
- 10:41no matter how hard they tried, no one could ever find my brother again.
- 10:46This marked a before and after in our lives. My parents fought long
- 10:50after that and eventually ended up getting divorced. I don' t know to
- 10:56date. I can' t give you an explanation for what I lived that
- 10:58night. I don' t know if it had anything to do with the
- 11:03baptism or not, but I' m sure there are good and bad forces
- 11:07in this world. I cannot claim that there is God, but I am
- 11:11absolutely sure that there is evil. My family emigrated to Canada when I was
- 11:20very young. Practically my whole life grew here, although I would not like
- 11:26to say exactly in which province I live, as there is a person involved
- 11:31in this story and to this day she does not want to talk about it.
- 11:35But when I was twelve years old something curious began to happen near the
- 11:41place where I lived, pets began to disappear. In my family we had
- 11:46two dogs that also disappeared. Almost everyone in the community was too scared and
- 11:52upset by the fact that someone was stealing the pets, and there were even
- 11:58some cases where the perpetrator had entered the houses just to steal the pet,
- 12:03without taking anything of value only to the animal. At that time I didn
- 12:11' t understand how that person could have taken my two dogs, as they
- 12:16disappeared on the same day. And these dogs were pitbull breeds and although they
- 12:18were quite sociable, they also knew how to behave very aggressively if they detected
- 12:26any kind of danger. I remember one time, during lunch at school,
- 12:30one of my colleagues mentioned that his brother, who was seventeen at the time,
- 12:35had found more than fifteen necklaces lying outside the forest next to the road.
- 12:43He also told us that they looked different in size and it was possible
- 12:48that they were from several pets. So that same afternoon, after leaving school,
- 12:54we all went to the forest to see if what he was saying was
- 12:56true and in fact, there were several necklaces. The first thing I did
- 13:03was start checking one by one to see if my dogs' necklaces were found,
- 13:07but they weren' t there. On the one hand, I was
- 13:11relieved, but the fact that they weren' t there didn' t mean
- 13:16they were still alive, as no one thought pets would be taken away to
- 13:18take care of them. Everyone knew they should be doing something to them,
- 13:22because there was no way anyone needed so many dogs and cats. I remember
- 13:28my best friend Sam had an idea. She suggested we dig deeper into the
- 13:33woods to see if we could find more necklaces or even find the lost pets.
- 13:41The truth was too childish a thought, but at that time we all
- 13:46followed their currents and thought it would be quite logical to think that if we
- 13:52went deeper into that forest, we could find our lost pets. On that
- 13:58occasion we were five boys, so we weren' t afraid to go in
- 14:01and look. I think we walked about a mile or two without finding anything.
- 14:07It was already starting to get dark, so we decided that it would
- 14:11be best to come back, although Sam was really hoping to find his cat,
- 14:16suggested that we could come back the next day, but this time,
- 14:20with more daylight, since it was Saturday and we could go over the pedometer
- 14:24more. It should be noted that we had grown up there, so we
- 14:31knew how to move in that forest and there was very little chance that we
- 14:33would get lost. And although most of the kids didn' t want to
- 14:39do it by saying that there was no reason to believe that we could find
- 14:43the pets in the woods and that if we found them, maybe it wouldn
- 14:48' t be the way we wanted to find them. I couldn' t
- 14:50say no to Samantha was my best friend and I really appreciated her, so
- 14:54I told her I' d go with her. I think the next morning
- 14:58we were going around in the woods for several hours and, in fact,
- 15:03at least I was already losing hope of finding any trace of the lost pets,
- 15:09although San told me that just a little more and if we didn'
- 15:13t find anything, we would go home. So I accepted and we kept
- 15:18looking. I was just about to tell Samantha to come back when we suddenly
- 15:24found something. I' m not sure if I can describe it in detail
- 15:30by this means, since I don' t want to be so graphic,
- 15:35but let' s say there were some animals behind a trunk, from a
- 15:37big fallen tree. However, none of the animals were whole. It didn
- 15:43' t look like someone had been eating them. It wasn' t like
- 15:46they just deliberately ripped out some parts of their bodies. I remember well that
- 15:52while I was too disgusted all over the scene, I was looking at all
- 15:56the animals with a lot of attention and a couple of minutes later he told
- 16:03me that all he wanted was to make sure his cat wasn' t there.
- 16:07It seems to me that we stayed about five minutes completely in shock trying
- 16:12to process it in our own way. However, we heard someone approaching,
- 16:17his steps were very heavy and we could hear the branches breaking when he stepped.
- 16:25So, scared we ran to hide behind a tree and waited for whoever
- 16:30was there to leave. I think until today, when I look back seriously,
- 16:36I would have made another decision like running out of the woods instead of
- 16:41hiding. Perhaps in that way we would not have seen anything that I will
- 16:47then relate, for the one who arrived was a man, he was very
- 16:52tall and had his hair very long. He was clearly an American native.
- 16:56He wore typical clothes and had very strange necklaces. Hanging from his neck,
- 17:00he approached the place where all those animals were. He looked at them for
- 17:07a moment almost like he was looking for one in particular, and after that
- 17:11he put his hand into the pile of animals to pull out the back of
- 17:17a black dog. That man took a branch of the floor and began to
- 17:19draw some symbol on the earth and then placed what was left of that poor
- 17:25animal and after that began to utter some words in a language that to this
- 17:30day I completely do not know. Then he took a big bite. I
- 17:37think it' s more shocking to have lived it than to write it now.
- 17:41He just bit him and started ripping out some parts of meat with his
- 17:45teeth. At that time my stomach was turned to think that each of the
- 17:51animals we had found behind that downed tree had had a similar fate. Seeing
- 17:57it was pretty disgusting. I was trying to lick all the blood so that
- 18:03no drop would fall to the floor and after that something even weirder happened.
- 18:07He started turning into a big black dog, but he looked very strange.
- 18:12The hind legs were all deformed a mixture between human and dog. He had
- 18:18no ears and his eyes still looked like a person' s. I think
- 18:23it was transformed like two or maybe three minutes before it returned to its original
- 18:29form, and it was noticed that this bothered him a lot, because when
- 18:33he was back in his original form, he hit the ground hard and began
- 18:37to say that it was not enough. Again and again his face was very
- 18:42strange, as he still had some canine features like his nose and mouth a
- 18:48little elongated. All this scared us so much, so San stepped back,
- 18:53making a little noise as he trolled some branches that were there and at the
- 18:57time, that man turned in the direction of the tree in which we were
- 19:02hiding and began to inspect it carefully. We just stood still, trying not
- 19:10to get him to see us. Suddenly he sketched a big smile, but
- 19:15it was a demon smile that I still can' t explain and said if
- 19:21it didn' t work with animals it might well work with people. And
- 19:25then he started running in our direction and without wasting time. We also started
- 19:30running trying not to turn back, although we heard clearly that he was chasing
- 19:37us and after a while it was no longer heard as if he was running
- 19:42on two legs like us, but rather as if he was now running on
- 19:48four. He' d make fun of us and say he' d get
- 19:52us the truth. I don' t know at what time, but we
- 19:56managed to get out of the woods and run to Sam' s house,
- 20:00which was the most rha, and once there we told his father what had
- 20:04happened, but he didn' t believe us. He told us that perhaps
- 20:07someone had wanted to scare us, but we insisted so much that his father,
- 20:12along with Sam' s two brothers, went to investigate the place we
- 20:18had told them and indeed, found many animals dismembered, but there was not
- 20:23a single trace of the man or the drawing he had made. Sam and
- 20:26I never dared to go back to the woods. I think the pet disappearances
- 20:32went on for about another year and then everything stopped until today. I don
- 20:38' t know if the man did his job or if he just went somewhere
- 20:42else to keep kidnapping pets for whatever their purpose is. I don' t
- 20:48know if he was a sorcerer or some kind of nahual. The truth.
- 20:51I' ve never wanted to investigate much about it, because just remembering it
- 20:56makes my stomach turn and I' m very afraid of it. Every time
- 21:00I see a dog or a cat a little bigger than normal, it scares
- 21:03me a lot and gives me nothing to trust. I guess it' s
- 21:10kind of a sequel that left me having lived something like that. But personally,
- 21:14all I ever want is to see something like that again. Stories written
