- 1:04Speaker 2: Vinstra is on your radio.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Mister Finster, Thank you, sir, how are you?
- 1:08Speaker 4: I'm good man. I appreciate you letting me be on
- 1:10Speaker 4: for a few minutes.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Oh man, absolutely, we wouldn't have it any other way.
- 1:13Speaker 2: So you take over for doctor Killing who was here.
- 1:16Speaker 2: We were just talking about Cody, and you know everything
- 1:18Speaker 2: you said, he teeds you up here, take us through.
- 1:21Speaker 2: You know, when that spot came open, kind of your
- 1:23Speaker 2: decision to say, yeah, I want to I want to
- 1:25Speaker 2: continue to move and I want to lead to the high
- 1:26Speaker 2: school here Brandon.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Yeah. So I've been in administration for this my eighth year,
- 1:31Speaker 4: served Brandon Middle for three years of that, and you
- 1:33Speaker 4: know when the position came open, Initially I thought my
- 1:36Speaker 4: middle school guy through and through that's where I've always been,
- 1:39Speaker 4: and just had a tugging in my heart and just
- 1:41Speaker 4: felt like it was time to take that next step
- 1:43Speaker 4: put in my name for it with mister Stein. Mister
- 1:45Speaker 4: Sanders had great conversations about it and sat down with
- 1:48Speaker 4: Cody and he kind of shared where his vision was
- 1:50Speaker 4: and what he had done to try and implement a
- 1:53Speaker 4: few changes. And the number one thing he really shared
- 1:55Speaker 4: with me was this school has already got so many
- 1:58Speaker 4: phenomenal things. It doesn't to make over. It just needs
- 2:01Speaker 4: a little fine tuning. Come in see the great things.
- 2:04Speaker 4: See where you can help find improvements, but don't try
- 2:06Speaker 4: to change the ship. Just go go with it, let
- 2:08Speaker 4: it keep flowing. And I've taken that advice, and teachers
- 2:11Speaker 4: have been real excited. They've really enjoyed the small little
- 2:14Speaker 4: changes we've made here and there. I think we're going
- 2:16Speaker 4: in the great direction. I really appreciated what Cody Killing
- 2:19Speaker 4: did before I came in.
- 2:20Speaker 3: You know, you talk about middle school.
- 2:22Speaker 2: The Missisi High School Activity Association, who we partner with,
- 2:25Speaker 2: they were over at our building today doing some new
- 2:27Speaker 2: creatives and stuff for messaging for twenty six twenty seven,
- 2:30Speaker 2: and some of that messaging was middle school focused. I've
- 2:33Speaker 2: got two middle schoolers. I know, we all got kids.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Just the importance and I'd love to see this. You've
- 2:40Speaker 3: mentioned it. You've spent a lot of your career in
- 2:42Speaker 3: middle school.
- 2:43Speaker 2: The focus on middle school boy, that is so important,
- 2:46Speaker 2: isn't it is?
- 2:47Speaker 4: To me it's one of the most multiple moments of
- 2:49Speaker 4: a kid's life. In elementary you know, they're really just there.
- 2:54Speaker 4: They're learning so much, their brains are developing. By the
- 2:57Speaker 4: time they get to the middle school, they're trying to
- 2:58Speaker 4: figure out who they are. So am I going to
- 3:01Speaker 4: be that person who's in the arts world? Do I
- 3:03Speaker 4: want to be an athlete, do I want to be
- 3:04Speaker 4: a scholar and they have no idea. One day they
- 3:07Speaker 4: want to do this, the next day they want to
- 3:08Speaker 4: do that. They're so impressionable that if you are able
- 3:11Speaker 4: to find that right guidance for them to steer them
- 3:14Speaker 4: in a direction that where they're making positive choices, they're
- 3:17Speaker 4: trying to better themselves. They carry that into the high
- 3:20Speaker 4: school and we've seen that with especially the freshman and
- 3:23Speaker 4: sophomores and juniors. You know, I was their assistant principal
- 3:25Speaker 4: at the middle school, so when they saw me, they
- 3:27Speaker 4: were like, oh, here comes mister Vinstra, and I remember
- 3:30Speaker 4: how he was in the middle school. And I can
- 3:32Speaker 4: see with them that those foundational things we did in
- 3:35Speaker 4: middle school and the fruits of it now, because middle
- 3:38Speaker 4: school make you pull your hair out, it could be
- 3:40Speaker 4: a frustrating, challenging time. To see the hard work that
- 3:43Speaker 4: I know those teachers are doing, Mister Rain's doings there
- 3:46Speaker 4: and that admin team, and seeing the effect of it now,
- 3:48Speaker 4: it just really brings a lot of gratification to know
- 3:51Speaker 4: that what they're doing is working.
- 3:54Speaker 2: He is mister Jacob venstre He is the head principal
- 3:56Speaker 2: here Brandon High School, Thursday edition of your program. So
- 3:59Speaker 2: you know we were I was talking to right and
- 4:00Speaker 2: we were talking through the Missippi Sports Medicine. The facilities here.
- 4:04Speaker 2: We've visited a lot of campuses with great facilities. You
- 4:07Speaker 2: guys are one of those as well. Just the beautiful
- 4:09Speaker 2: football facility everybody talks about even though you know with
- 4:12Speaker 2: the down the year last year, the Bulldog Stadium experience
- 4:16Speaker 2: on Friday nights with the firework shows and just the
- 4:18Speaker 2: dog walk. And you look over here the new track
- 4:21Speaker 2: that's finally in service, new buildings, and I know you
- 4:24Speaker 2: guys have a master plan that every school does to
- 4:26Speaker 2: continue to build out talk about everything going on here
- 4:29Speaker 2: at Brandon High School.
- 4:31Speaker 4: So it's been really neat to see. We're getting to
- 4:33Speaker 4: host our first track event this year. So the track
- 4:36Speaker 4: was built, I think it finalize a year and a
- 4:38Speaker 4: half ago. They've been using it for a practice facility
- 4:40Speaker 4: and a lot of different things, but they haven't been
- 4:42Speaker 4: quite ready to host an event. And here we are,
- 4:45Speaker 4: we're getting to host our first event this year. I
- 4:47Speaker 4: don't know if you've gotten to check out the sand
- 4:48Speaker 4: volleyball courts that are right across. I've heard a lot
- 4:50Speaker 4: about it that has been a game changer, and not
- 4:53Speaker 4: just for volleyball. I was talking with coach Walker and
- 4:56Speaker 4: Coach Clinton, and the football team is in love with
- 4:59Speaker 4: that sand court because they will go out and they
- 5:01Speaker 4: will do all kinds of aerobic exercising out there, knowing
- 5:03Speaker 4: that the damage and wear and tear on their body
- 5:05Speaker 4: is so much less because they're on a sand court
- 5:08Speaker 4: rather than running on a turf for a grass field.
- 5:11Speaker 4: So that's been awesome to see. We're hoping to get
- 5:13Speaker 4: some events hosted there soon. There's still a few other
- 5:15Speaker 4: things we got to work through to make that happen.
- 5:18Speaker 4: There's just lots of different things. Sitting with b Club
- 5:20Speaker 4: and their ideas of what they want to try to
- 5:22Speaker 4: do to promote programs and to build the programs. It's
- 5:25Speaker 4: really it's an exciting time to be here.
- 5:28Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I'm so intrigued where you know, higher education is going,
- 5:32Speaker 2: and we always like to have I like to have
- 5:34Speaker 2: these conversations with the administrators like yourself is, you know,
- 5:37Speaker 2: with AI and the way things are moving and how
- 5:39Speaker 2: we see it in our business. Every business is having
- 5:42Speaker 2: to deal with it. Education is having to deal with it.
- 5:45Speaker 2: How are you guys handling that you know, from a
- 5:48Speaker 2: from a higher education standpoint, because technology is moving at
- 5:53Speaker 2: such a rapid base.
- 5:54Speaker 4: Correct, it goes back to utilizing it and teaching them
- 5:57Speaker 4: kids to use it the right way. So it's real
- 6:01Speaker 4: easy as a kid to be I mean we all
- 6:03Speaker 4: did it as kids too. You look over and you
- 6:04Speaker 4: see if you can get a quick answer to try
- 6:06Speaker 4: and get things done.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Right, it happened.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Well.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Kids today they can easily just put everything into a
- 6:11Speaker 4: computer program, take a picture of it, and boom, it's
- 6:13Speaker 4: done for them. So how do we know they're learning things?
- 6:16Speaker 4: A lot of it comes into monitoring. The teachers do
- 6:19Speaker 4: a phenomenal job, especially of trying to make sure they're
- 6:21Speaker 4: they're seeing an actual student's product, but then teaching the kids, Hey,
- 6:26Speaker 4: we've got AI and it's a great tool. How can
- 6:28Speaker 4: you actually use it to benefit yourself? So I saw
- 6:31Speaker 4: a teacher the other day. She was teaching a lesson.
- 6:33Speaker 4: The kids were just it was way over the heads.
- 6:35Speaker 4: They had no idea what she was talking about. She
- 6:37Speaker 4: pulled up chat GVT and she said, let me show
- 6:39Speaker 4: you something. She gave the topic. She said, give it
- 6:41Speaker 4: on a twelfth grade level, and it was still confusing.
- 6:43Speaker 4: She said, can you tell me this again. Pretend it
- 6:45Speaker 4: was a glass of second graders explain the exact same
- 6:48Speaker 4: concept in a simpler way, and they clearly understood it
- 6:51Speaker 4: and then progressed through it.
- 6:53Speaker 3: So just seeing different.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Ways to utilize such a it's a phenomenal resource.
- 6:57Speaker 3: I use it daily in our job. Doctor Gaddy, I
- 7:01Speaker 3: don't know if you've met him, Oh yeah, no, doctor Gaddy.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Well, he is a tech guru and he has used
- 7:05Speaker 4: Claude and these other platforms to revamp things that we're
- 7:08Speaker 4: utilizing in the school. And it's just so beneficial. But
- 7:12Speaker 4: it still has our creative side. It still requires our mind.
- 7:15Speaker 4: We've trained it to do what we need it to
- 7:17Speaker 4: do rather than just letting it give us a product
- 7:19Speaker 4: and hope we can figure it out.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's interesting, and you know, I think the biggest
- 7:23Speaker 2: challenge is to make sure and I'm preaching the choir,
- 7:27Speaker 2: is that students, and you kind already said this, they
- 7:29Speaker 2: don't become just dependent on it, like what if we
- 7:31Speaker 2: was a world where if you flip the light switch
- 7:33Speaker 2: and it was gone. You still want them to be
- 7:35Speaker 2: able to think objectively and organically, be able to process information.
- 7:40Speaker 4: And it's really neat kids nowadays. I don't want to
- 7:43Speaker 4: say relationships, but it's almost like a relationship with AI.
- 7:47Speaker 4: It's a friend to them. They have conversations with it,
- 7:50Speaker 4: so they're using it as a social platform rather than
- 7:54Speaker 4: how can I use it as a resource to help
- 7:56Speaker 4: me understand more clearly? And that's something I'm seeing in
- 7:59Speaker 4: a lot of our teachers. They use AI in the classroom.
- 8:02Speaker 4: They're trying to say, let me teach you how to
- 8:03Speaker 4: do it first. Now that you understand how to do it,
- 8:06Speaker 4: let's apply it with this and see how we can
- 8:08Speaker 4: take it to the next level. I just think AI,
- 8:11Speaker 4: if we don't keep a rain on it and try
- 8:13Speaker 4: to keep it from being just over inclusive and taking
- 8:16Speaker 4: over everything, then we can see true benefit from it.
- 8:19Speaker 4: But if we allow it to do it for us,
- 8:21Speaker 4: then we're setting our kids up to not be successful
- 8:23Speaker 4: in the real world.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Got about a minute and a half left here with
- 8:26Speaker 2: mister Jacob vinstro He's the head principal here at Brandon
- 8:28Speaker 2: High School. A lot of energy behind Coach Clinton, and
- 8:31Speaker 2: of course his new staff is here. You can fill
- 8:34Speaker 2: the energy here on campus for football.
- 8:36Speaker 4: I was talking with a few guys from MRA the
- 8:39Speaker 4: other night when we had our volleyball game here and
- 8:41Speaker 4: they brought up our new OC and DC and they
- 8:43Speaker 4: just said, man, what home run hires have you brought in?
- 8:46Speaker 4: And I said, well, give credit, Coach Clinton. I didn't
- 8:48Speaker 4: do that. Coach Clinton is a very humble man. He
- 8:51Speaker 4: comes across and you can see him and he's got
- 8:54Speaker 4: a lot of confidence about himself, but he is very humble,
- 8:56Speaker 4: and he knew that if I'm going to guide this program,
- 8:59Speaker 4: the way of direction is you have a force behind
- 9:01Speaker 4: me that is going to take these kids to the
- 9:03Speaker 4: next level. So he saw it out and fought hard
- 9:06Speaker 4: to get these guys here, and we did everything in
- 9:08Speaker 4: our power to make sure we got them here. In
- 9:10Speaker 4: the way that they interact with the kids hearing the
- 9:12Speaker 4: things that I'm hearing, the practice, the competitions. The kids
- 9:15Speaker 4: are fired up, they want to get out on the field.
- 9:17Speaker 4: I'm excited to see them a little bit tonight. I'm
- 9:19Speaker 4: sure they won't go full impact Jamboree next week. We'll
- 9:22Speaker 4: get a little taste, but man, that first game of
- 9:24Speaker 4: two plow.
- 9:25Speaker 3: I just am.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Excited to see what we put on the field, and
- 9:27Speaker 4: I know it's going to be a great product.
- 9:29Speaker 2: He is the head principal here at Brandon High School.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Mister Jacob Vince, mister Venscher, thank you so much. I
