- 0:00Speaker 1: Are we gonna get to five rotations? Are we gonna
- 0:02Speaker 1: get to six? Richids? I don't know, like the amount
- 0:04Speaker 1: of rotations? There is a ceiling, right, So then what
- 0:08Speaker 1: is going to be the differentiator? What's gonna make you
- 0:11Speaker 1: stand out? And you can take this to life in general, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: how are you gonna stand out if you're all doing
- 0:17Speaker 1: the same thing? Yeah, what is it that's gonna give
- 0:20Speaker 1: you that? Ed?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Hi?
- 0:23Speaker 3: Everyone, my name is Haley and this is Lara, and
- 0:25Speaker 3: welcome to the Body Pod.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Randy, my beautiful, hilarious dear friend. Thank you for being
- 0:34Speaker 4: on the body Pod.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Of course, Hi, I'm so excited to be here.
- 0:40Speaker 4: I'm so excited too. And because Hailey does not know
- 0:45Speaker 4: you the way I know you, and for all of
- 0:47Speaker 4: the listeners, will you take us back to the beginning
- 0:52Speaker 4: and tell us how you got in to dance and
- 0:55Speaker 4: perform me.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Yeah, We're have so many Yeah, all of it. I'll
- 1:00Speaker 1: tell you all the things. I'll tell you all the things.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Anything you want to know, the good, the bad, and
- 1:04Speaker 1: you know all of it. I'll tell you that, you know,
- 1:08Speaker 1: kind of kind of big picture story. I started dance
- 1:11Speaker 1: in Utah when I was very young, three or four
- 1:13Speaker 1: years old. I knew very young, like eleven twelve, that
- 1:19Speaker 1: I this is what I wanted to do. I knew
- 1:20Speaker 1: at a very young age. I was like, dance is
- 1:22Speaker 1: going to take me places. And I was so excited
- 1:26Speaker 1: about that. My entire but junior high, high school life
- 1:30Speaker 1: was just dedicated to training and dance. I then went
- 1:34Speaker 1: on to I had some amazing jobs. I danced at
- 1:37Speaker 1: Radio City. My first job was on a cruise ship.
- 1:41Speaker 1: You know, I feel like everyone has to do that
- 1:42Speaker 1: once in their life, you know, eighteen years old on
- 1:44Speaker 1: a cruise ship. And then yeah, I ended up on
- 1:49Speaker 1: So You Think you Can Dance in two thousand and nine,
- 1:52Speaker 1: so season five, and that really helped kick my professional
- 1:57Speaker 1: career off. I was living in LA and that really
- 2:01Speaker 1: helped build my resume and get my name out there.
- 2:04Speaker 1: So from there, you know, I was a professional dancer
- 2:07Speaker 1: living in LA And ultimately I started a production company
- 2:12Speaker 1: in twenty twelve because I wanted to. I wanted to
- 2:15Speaker 1: produce entertainment. I wanted to stay in the dance and
- 2:19Speaker 1: entertainment space. Even though I was, you know, getting older.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Hips were not working like me like they did. But
- 2:26Speaker 1: I was twenty, you know, and so I ended up
- 2:31Speaker 1: getting into choreography and producing entertainment in the corporate world,
- 2:36Speaker 1: which when I tell you, I mean we can get
- 2:38Speaker 1: into this later. But when Google and I started this company,
- 2:41Speaker 1: because I didn't know anything, I didn't know anything business,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I was just like, what are what are we doing?
- 2:48Speaker 1: What's a W two for? You know, like how how
- 2:50Speaker 1: are we doing this? So yeah, so that was kind
- 2:53Speaker 1: of one avenue. So so production was taking on a
- 2:56Speaker 1: life of its own, and I was doing all these
- 2:57Speaker 1: big corporate shows and I loved it. It was hiring
- 2:59Speaker 1: my friend and you know, super fun. So kind of
- 3:03Speaker 1: around this, you know, I don't know, late twenties, I
- 3:07Speaker 1: end up not even late twenties. Honestly, in my thirties.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Let's be honest. I was in my thirties. I do
- 3:13Speaker 1: this job, I get hired to do this dance job
- 3:15Speaker 1: in Tokyo, and in this show are a bunch of
- 3:20Speaker 1: these ice skaters. Now I was like, okay, cool ice skating.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I mean it's like I followed figure skating, you know,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I was a dancer, and they were like, hey, do
- 3:30Speaker 1: you like you know, you're really helping us with our
- 3:32Speaker 1: off ice Like dance and movement would you want to
- 3:36Speaker 1: work with other ice skaters, and I was like, yeah, sure, absolutely, yes,
- 3:41Speaker 1: where when how you know? And this ended up taking
- 3:46Speaker 1: on a life of its own. I started working with
- 3:48Speaker 1: all these Olympic ice skaters. I was doing dance and
- 3:51Speaker 1: movement coaching for them. I started doing choreography for them,
- 3:55Speaker 1: and here we are, like, you know, it was a
- 3:58Speaker 1: side hustle that I was like, I'll do anything for
- 4:00Speaker 1: twenty dollars, you know, because of and I yeah, So
- 4:05Speaker 1: I started doing it and it has taken on the
- 4:07Speaker 1: life of its own. And now you know, here we
- 4:10Speaker 1: are working with working with ice skaters, and I have
- 4:13Speaker 1: an online studio that you know, that teaches them all
- 4:17Speaker 1: all the things they need to know for off ice.
- 4:20Speaker 4: In your fresh, fresh laid home from the Olympics.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, did you watch Did you watch the Olympics? Yes, yes,
- 4:29Speaker 1: I did not.
- 4:30Speaker 3: I have to fess up, I did not, but but
- 4:35Speaker 3: I want to know because I'm sure there's lots of stories.
- 4:39Speaker 1: So this was your first Olympics, my very first Olympics.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And when I tell you, like, you know, dance isn't
- 4:45Speaker 1: in the Olympics, right, Yeah, So going to the Olympics
- 4:50Speaker 1: that wasn't even like in the year. It's not like
- 4:55Speaker 1: like I wasn't like one day I'm going to make
- 4:56Speaker 1: it to the Olympics, you know, and so yere I
- 5:00Speaker 1: am with this opportunity to go, and because I had
- 5:04Speaker 1: several people that had my choreography in, you know, in
- 5:08Speaker 1: the Olympics, including Ilia Mallanin's show program, the gallap program
- 5:13Speaker 1: I worked on with him, and so I was just
- 5:16Speaker 1: stoked to be there. And it was this it was
- 5:20Speaker 1: almost this culmination of all of these things that you've
- 5:24Speaker 1: been working towards your entire life, and you didn't know
- 5:26Speaker 1: like how it was going to come together. And then
- 5:28Speaker 1: all of a sudden, I had this moment. I was
- 5:30Speaker 1: on the plane, like on the way there, and tears
- 5:33Speaker 1: just started rolling down my face because I was like,
- 5:37Speaker 1: you realize, oh my god, I have been working my
- 5:40Speaker 1: entire life for this moment, even though I didn't even
- 5:44Speaker 1: realize that that was you know, that was what happened.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And so yeah, it was just the most incredible experience.
- 5:52Speaker 1: It was, you know, I was in Milan, the most
- 5:54Speaker 1: gorgeous city, and yeah, epic, epic experience for sure.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Okay, I want to take you back. I want to
- 6:01Speaker 3: rewind a little bit. So you're on, so you think
- 6:04Speaker 3: you can dance? Do you win or do they just
- 6:07Speaker 3: like take a certain number of people? Like how did
- 6:10Speaker 3: you get noticed from that?
- 6:12Speaker 1: I will tell you it took me. It took me
- 6:15Speaker 1: three years to get on the show. Three years. The
- 6:19Speaker 1: first year I didn't even make it past the producer cut.
- 6:22Speaker 1: The second year, I make it to Vegas and I
- 6:25Speaker 1: get cut in the most humiliated. I was just humiliated
- 6:29Speaker 1: when I got cut, honestly me and Michaels was the
- 6:33Speaker 1: one who cut me. She's a pretty famous choreographer. And
- 6:37Speaker 1: I was like so humiliated right now. And you know,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I wasn't going to go back a third time. And
- 6:45Speaker 1: I was just like I have to do this. I
- 6:47Speaker 1: have to do it. I know I can do it.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I know I I know I can be on the show.
- 6:52Speaker 1: And so I went back for the third time and
- 6:55Speaker 1: I made it, and I end up making it all
- 6:58Speaker 1: the way to the top five girls of that season,
- 7:01Speaker 1: followed by an international tour like forty something seasons, but
- 7:06Speaker 1: international tour. It was so fun and so yeah, top
- 7:09Speaker 1: five girls? Were you famous for? Like the what what
- 7:14Speaker 1: did they call it? Like the butt dance or something.
- 7:16Speaker 1: What was it? Yes, it was cold what dance? It
- 7:21Speaker 1: was literally and the whole number was about my butt.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I am not joking. That was what it was about.
- 7:27Speaker 1: And I had to wear it.
- 7:30Speaker 3: I know.
- 7:32Speaker 1: It was like the I mean at the time, I
- 7:35Speaker 1: was just like what is happening? You know? And then
- 7:38Speaker 1: looking back, I'm like, oh my gosh, it's kind of
- 7:40Speaker 1: iconic in the best way. Not not that I made
- 7:43Speaker 1: it iconic, but just a yeah. But I remember so
- 7:49Speaker 1: Meo Michael's Corey Rot said she ended up winning an
- 7:52Speaker 1: Emmy that season for her choreography on that season of
- 7:58Speaker 1: So You Think She Wants an Emmy? And I had
- 8:01Speaker 1: to wear these fake red bottom shoes. I mean they
- 8:04Speaker 1: were like this tall. Seriously, I got the most ridiculous
- 8:09Speaker 1: shoes and she goes, okay, so you're gonna walk out
- 8:12Speaker 1: and start in these mind you. I am like this,
- 8:15Speaker 1: you know, little meek twenty two year old streak from Utah,
- 8:19Speaker 1: And I was like, what what is that? You know?
- 8:22Speaker 1: I put it on when I looked so ridiculous walking
- 8:25Speaker 1: across this page like this, you know, and I'm like,
- 8:27Speaker 1: oh my god, I've got forty eight hours to like
- 8:29Speaker 1: pull this together. So it ended up yeah, ended up
- 8:36Speaker 1: being good like that.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Not really like catapulted you to and really another place
- 8:43Speaker 3: as far as.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Your career, Yeah, yeah, give your name.
- 8:49Speaker 3: I'm gonna totally like be really naive because I don't
- 8:52Speaker 3: know that much about dance.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I mean, I was a cheerleader. I did like dance.
- 8:58Speaker 3: But I look at Utah dance now and when I
- 9:02Speaker 3: have friends that live there and their kids are in dance,
- 9:06Speaker 3: it's like all consuming and really expensive. That wasn't the
- 9:11Speaker 3: kind of dance that that I was doing. Mine was
- 9:14Speaker 3: much more chill. When you were thinking I want to
- 9:16Speaker 3: do this, Were you thinking I would dance like on
- 9:19Speaker 3: a cruise ship or were you thinking I'm gonna have
- 9:21Speaker 3: my own dance studio?
- 9:23Speaker 1: Yeah? What did that look like? That dancer? Yeah? Yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 1: of course. So you know what's so funny. I so
- 9:32Speaker 1: my parents sat me down when I was like ten
- 9:35Speaker 1: or eleven, you know, and they were like, Okay, if
- 9:36Speaker 1: you want to do this, we will commit with you
- 9:41Speaker 1: to do that, like to be just know that like
- 9:44Speaker 1: on the days that you don't want to go too bad,
- 9:46Speaker 1: you're going at You're going like if we're doing it,
- 9:49Speaker 1: you're doing it, you know. And so I was so committed.
- 9:52Speaker 1: And the funny thing is is that I was like,
- 9:54Speaker 1: I want to grow up and be a professional dancer. Well,
- 9:58Speaker 1: to answer your question, I I didn't even know what
- 10:00Speaker 1: that meant. Like the first thing I did, I moved
- 10:03Speaker 1: to New York City right after high school because I
- 10:05Speaker 1: was like, I'm going to go be a professional doing
- 10:08Speaker 1: what what does that even mean? But I didn't even know.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I had no idea. I was so naive. I was
- 10:15Speaker 1: just like I just wanted to be a professional dancer,
- 10:18Speaker 1: you know, because I was like, oh, how cool, Like
- 10:20Speaker 1: I love this and I can get paid to do
- 10:22Speaker 1: it now. Also, at the same time, like Britney Spears
- 10:25Speaker 1: was so hot, and I was like, whatever it takes
- 10:28Speaker 1: to be Brittany. Yeah, yeah, I can't sing. I cannot sing.
- 10:35Speaker 1: It was yeah, it became this like I have to
- 10:38Speaker 1: be a professional dancer now. I quickly found out, you know,
- 10:40Speaker 1: because I went to New York City first, that you
- 10:42Speaker 1: have to be all to sing to like be successful
- 10:46Speaker 1: in New York. I don't know why I didn't know
- 10:48Speaker 1: that prior to right, so kind of the biggest job
- 10:52Speaker 1: that I did out in New York was Radio City,
- 10:54Speaker 1: and that was a massive goal. Of mine. I wanted
- 10:56Speaker 1: to be in the Christmas show. I did it. You
- 10:59Speaker 1: were in the show? I love it, I love yeah,
- 11:05Speaker 1: I was Okay, two thousand and five is when I
- 11:10Speaker 1: did it. And you know that the show changes like
- 11:13Speaker 1: every so often, but during my season, they had these
- 11:17Speaker 1: big Bears, like the big I mean, the costumes are massive,
- 11:21Speaker 1: and I was the center bear and pink point shoes,
- 11:25Speaker 1: point shoes in a bear costume. Okay, it was. It
- 11:29Speaker 1: was the hardest and most awesome job I've ever done,
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know, because we're doing a gazillion shows a week.
- 11:36Speaker 1: I quickly found out that the West Coast was the
- 11:39Speaker 1: place for me. It was much more of a commercial dancer,
- 11:41Speaker 1: and that's where you go and get booked for like
- 11:43Speaker 1: what you're saying, like music videos, backup dancing, commercials, TV,
- 11:49Speaker 1: all that kind of stuff. But again to your point,
- 11:53Speaker 1: like so you think it helped like put me on
- 11:56Speaker 1: the map so that I was getting in these auditions
- 11:58Speaker 1: and then be like oh you okay, oh we know you,
- 12:01Speaker 1: We've we've seen you, and it's almost like you get
- 12:04Speaker 1: this extra little like pass. Yeah, it give me.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Me this credibility of you made it on there.
- 12:12Speaker 1: So I mean, do we know she can move Yeah, exactly, yeah, exactly.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Now the show was taken on a completely different life form,
- 12:21Speaker 1: you know, since I was on it, but forever grateful
- 12:25Speaker 1: that it was on my resume. It is on my resume.
- 12:27Speaker 1: You can't take it, no one, No one's taking it
- 12:30Speaker 1: from me.
- 12:32Speaker 4: So you really it kind of morphed from you being
- 12:35Speaker 4: a dancer into you being a choreographer. Had you always
- 12:39Speaker 4: choreographed or is that a talent that you realized later
- 12:43Speaker 4: on that you were just really good at.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I started choreographing when I was pretty young, like when
- 12:49Speaker 1: I was still at the studio training, because I was choreographing,
- 12:53Speaker 1: like you know, young kids solos and stuff like for money.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I was. You know, it's like a side job, you
- 13:00Speaker 1: know What's funny though, now I don't like in the
- 13:04Speaker 1: corporal space, in live entertainment space, I'm not the choreographer.
- 13:08Speaker 1: I'm the producer, and I prefer it that way. I
- 13:12Speaker 1: prefer it that way now as far as my space
- 13:15Speaker 1: within ice skating, yes, I'm the choreographer. And also it's
- 13:21Speaker 1: it's heavily and it's heavily based around movement quality, So
- 13:27Speaker 1: I wouldn't say it's like dance choreography. It's it's movement
- 13:31Speaker 1: and presentation and texture and pictures and things like that.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So it's a different it's different, it's different than like
- 13:38Speaker 1: dance choreography.
- 13:39Speaker 4: So do ice skaters generally have a choreograph like a
- 13:45Speaker 4: dance choreographer and then obviously an ice skating Yeah, like
- 13:49Speaker 4: a coach, but also someone that understands the choreography on
- 13:54Speaker 4: the skates.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Does that make sense? Yeah, yeah, it makes sense. It
- 14:00Speaker 1: makes sense. Okay, So I'll tell you there's there's different
- 14:04Speaker 1: disciplines within ice skating. So you've got singles like men
- 14:08Speaker 1: and women's singles, and then you've got pairs, which is
- 14:11Speaker 1: the you know, the big throws and the big lifts
- 14:14Speaker 1: and stuff like that. And then you have ice dancers.
- 14:17Speaker 1: So ice ancers have a different set of requirements and
- 14:21Speaker 1: elements that they do. Now, what was so interesting to
- 14:24Speaker 1: me when I first started working with them They didn't
- 14:27Speaker 1: dance off the ice. They're not training dance off ice.
- 14:31Speaker 1: And I was like, well, then what do you what
- 14:34Speaker 1: do you mean You're an ice dancer, but you can't
- 14:36Speaker 1: dance like you're not dancing right, And so I don't think, no, no,
- 14:44Speaker 1: they don't have I mean, now it's kind of turning
- 14:48Speaker 1: into this. I will say, I think that I really
- 14:52Speaker 1: created my own position, my own space. There are not
- 14:59Speaker 1: a lot of people who do what I do, and
- 15:01Speaker 1: I think that that, you know, I'm really proud of that.
- 15:03Speaker 1: It's something that I I had to really form myself.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, I have this skill set, I
- 15:10Speaker 1: have the opportunity. I'm in front of these people. How
- 15:14Speaker 1: can I bring value to what they're already doing even
- 15:18Speaker 1: though I can't skate. I don't know how to skate.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I can understand it, but I don't skate. So it
- 15:25Speaker 1: was really an interesting position that I created as a
- 15:29Speaker 1: professional dancer coming into the space. And once I started
- 15:32Speaker 1: working with ice dancers, then the coaches were like, oh, well,
- 15:35Speaker 1: can you work with like my single skaters now, And
- 15:38Speaker 1: so that's how I started working with like Alyssa and
- 15:40Speaker 1: Elia Amber, like all these single skaters. So it really
- 15:44Speaker 1: kind of became this create your own path, like create
- 15:49Speaker 1: the position because it didn't exist, it really is.
- 15:54Speaker 4: And Alyssa's the one that just won the gold.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Yes, Alyssa's killer, She's the so she's the single woman
- 16:01Speaker 1: skater that she has the striped hair.
- 16:04Speaker 4: They don't consider and consider themselves skaters. They I mean,
- 16:09Speaker 4: they don't. Sorry, yeah, which I never even thought about that.
- 16:14Speaker 1: That is really interesting.
- 16:16Speaker 4: But I saw this interview with you, and you were
- 16:20Speaker 4: talking about like how you help them like finish the
- 16:25Speaker 4: moves and the eye contact and really like pronunciate their moves.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Almost.
- 16:33Speaker 4: I don't know how else to say.
- 16:35Speaker 1: So here's here's what's interesting. If you watched a performance
- 16:40Speaker 1: a lot of times, you're not gonna understand why you
- 16:42Speaker 1: love it. You're just gonna you're just gonna feel it.
- 16:45Speaker 1: You're just gonna be like, oh my god, that was amazing.
- 16:49Speaker 1: If you break it down to okay, why was that amazing,
- 16:52Speaker 1: it's because they have eye contact, they have presentation, they
- 16:55Speaker 1: know how to emote, they're finishing lines, they're they're giving
- 16:59Speaker 1: great newscality there. You know, that's all these little nuanced
- 17:03Speaker 1: things that you don't even realize that they're doing. You
- 17:07Speaker 1: as an audience member, are just feeling it. You're just like,
- 17:10Speaker 1: oh my god, it's so good. So that's my job.
- 17:13Speaker 1: That's that's how I felt. Get there.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what I felt when I watched your YouTube
- 17:20Speaker 3: like intro video or something.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I I can't tell you what you
- 17:26Speaker 1: really did.
- 17:27Speaker 3: I mean you, yeah, did some cool moves and stuff,
- 17:29Speaker 3: but it was just like this grace and flow.
- 17:32Speaker 1: So that's what you're trying to bring.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Yeah, like an actress has to be like on screen
- 17:39Speaker 3: and win over their the crowd.
- 17:42Speaker 1: It's it can It can literally be as simple as
- 17:45Speaker 1: and this is what I explained in it in another
- 17:47Speaker 1: interview that I did. It can literally be like, well,
- 17:50Speaker 1: I'll do it to you and anybody listening can try it. Okay,
- 17:54Speaker 1: bring your shoulders off to your ears, and then put
- 17:57Speaker 1: your shoulders back, and then put your shoulders down, and
- 18:01Speaker 1: then like, how much better do you feel like you have?
- 18:07Speaker 1: Like this presentation? And and so it becomes this these little,
- 18:11Speaker 1: these tiny details that you're like, okay, now drop your
- 18:15Speaker 1: chin and stare over there to the right right. It
- 18:18Speaker 1: can it can be like little things like that, and
- 18:20Speaker 1: then on the ice in the performance you're like, oh,
- 18:24Speaker 1: oh my god, that was so good. Why was it
- 18:25Speaker 1: so good?
- 18:27Speaker 3: So it's kind of acting too, I mean like a
- 18:30Speaker 3: little bit of an acting coach. I mean you have
- 18:33Speaker 3: to play that role as well. Yeah, yes, So like
- 18:37Speaker 3: nonverbal communication.
- 18:40Speaker 1: Well, here's what here's what I always said at some
- 18:43Speaker 1: point we're gonna stop. Are we gonna get to five rotations?
- 18:47Speaker 1: Are we gonna get to six riches? I don't know,
- 18:49Speaker 1: like the amount of rotations, there is a ceiling, right,
- 18:53Speaker 1: So then what is going to be the differentiator? What's
- 18:56Speaker 1: gonna make you stand out? And you can take this
- 18:58Speaker 1: to to life and general, like, how are you gonna
- 19:01Speaker 1: stand out if you're all doing the same thing? What
- 19:04Speaker 1: is it that's gonna give you that edge? And I
- 19:09Speaker 1: believe that that is the performance. I believe that that's
- 19:13Speaker 1: where the artistry comes in because you you you're all
- 19:18Speaker 1: doing the same steps, you're all doing the same footwork,
- 19:20Speaker 1: you're all doing the same element. So at some point
- 19:24Speaker 1: you're gonna have to say, like, Okay, what's gonna make
- 19:27Speaker 1: me stand out? And I think it's Oh, it's artistry.
- 19:31Speaker 3: I do too, And I'm a newbie to all of this,
- 19:35Speaker 3: but I'm flabbergasted that there's that these people are not dancers.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Clearly they can move on skates, So have you ever
- 19:45Speaker 3: had to interact with someone that can move on skates?
- 19:47Speaker 3: But they do not have body like it's they're just
- 19:51Speaker 3: not good at first.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Yes, okay, you'll get I name names no, it's it's
- 20:04Speaker 1: it's so interesting because yeah, if you take off their
- 20:06Speaker 1: skates and then all of a sudden you get on
- 20:07Speaker 1: the on the floor and you're like, okay, let's try
- 20:11Speaker 1: a head roll, and they're like And for those of
- 20:15Speaker 1: you listening, that was like a you know, a a
- 20:17Speaker 1: in a in a net cast head role. And so
- 20:21Speaker 1: so here's what's here's what's so interesting. At a foundation level,
- 20:26Speaker 1: at a base movement, foundation, body awareness level, it is
- 20:31Speaker 1: all the same whether you are in the Olympics or
- 20:33Speaker 1: you are just starting skate. I teach the same fundamentals
- 20:38Speaker 1: to uh, you know, a beginner and to ilia. So
- 20:42Speaker 1: at a foundation level, that's all the same, right, And
- 20:47Speaker 1: and the reason the that I even started my online
- 20:50Speaker 1: studio was because I realized really fast that I was
- 20:54Speaker 1: saying the same things over and over and over to
- 20:57Speaker 1: different level skaters. So I'm like, oh my god, okay,
- 21:01Speaker 1: you all need foundational dance and movement training. Like because
- 21:05Speaker 1: you can bring me in for choreography, but if I
- 21:08Speaker 1: say roll your right shoulder and you don't know how
- 21:12Speaker 1: to move your right shoulder, like, we got to back up,
- 21:17Speaker 1: we gotta go back to the beginning, to the basics
- 21:20Speaker 1: back to the foundation. So I have seen a lot
- 21:23Speaker 1: of improvement. I mean, I've been working with these skaters
- 21:25Speaker 1: now for the last seven eight years, and it is
- 21:29Speaker 1: like my mission in life to drive home how important
- 21:33Speaker 1: it is for them to be practicing off ice dance
- 21:37Speaker 1: and movement. It's not about just all of a sudden
- 21:41Speaker 1: magically being able to do it once you step on
- 21:44Speaker 1: the ice.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Who was doing your job that you invented before you?
- 21:49Speaker 1: What were they doing? They were dancing as I'd say, No,
- 21:53Speaker 1: I don't I don't know, I don't think. Okay, you
- 21:56Speaker 1: know what's something crazy that I found out? And I
- 21:59Speaker 1: was like, oh, oh my god, I don't know how
- 22:00Speaker 1: you're doing it. The head coach is doing everything choreography,
- 22:08Speaker 1: skating lessons, music production, costume design, creative direction. I mean
- 22:15Speaker 1: it was like, I'm like, how how how was how
- 22:19Speaker 1: was one person doing all of this? And so I
- 22:23Speaker 1: think that I stepped in. I was like, okay, let me,
- 22:26Speaker 1: let me do the dance choreography part of it, because
- 22:29Speaker 1: if you're not a dance choreographer, you don't know dance
- 22:32Speaker 1: or you don't know how to choreograph those moves, like
- 22:36Speaker 1: hire me to do it. Right, okay, and that's how
- 22:38Speaker 1: that's how my position got invented, invented. I love invented positions.
- 22:44Speaker 3: So I feel like gymnasts could use someone helping more
- 22:50Speaker 3: with dance choreography because sometimes it's.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Choppy. Yeah, it just doesn't. It doesn't have that same
- 22:58Speaker 1: Their moves are cool and you're into them, but most
- 23:01Speaker 1: of the time there isn't this like true casts and
- 23:06Speaker 1: body movement. Yeah yeah, so you know what's so in
- 23:11Speaker 1: I completely agree, So shout out to the to the gymnasts,
- 23:14Speaker 1: go ahead and give me a call. It's it really
- 23:19Speaker 1: is the same. Like you could. You could break it
- 23:20Speaker 1: down to fundamentals again, and what I what I think
- 23:23Speaker 1: you're saying, and what the way that I would translate
- 23:26Speaker 1: what you're saying is I find a lack of transition.
- 23:30Speaker 1: So you can have a really cool move A and
- 23:33Speaker 1: a really cool move B, but how you get there
- 23:36Speaker 1: that's what creates the choppiness. That's what that's what takes
- 23:40Speaker 1: you out of the performance. So I'm not watching you like,
- 23:43Speaker 1: oh damn girl, like you are moving, You're you're almost
- 23:46Speaker 1: like look, oh you know, And I don't want to
- 23:50Speaker 1: feel like that when I watch it. I want to
- 23:52Speaker 1: be like, oh my god, you're so good. Why is
- 23:55Speaker 1: it so good? I don't even know why it's so good?
- 23:57Speaker 1: And transibity.
- 24:00Speaker 3: The music probably matters too, the music choice. Yeah, you
- 24:04Speaker 3: can tell the ones like the gymnasts that have Russian
- 24:06Speaker 3: like Russian coaches and things like that, because it just
- 24:10Speaker 3: isn't as I mean, I'm I'm coming again, total newbie here,
- 24:14Speaker 3: but when I watch a gymnastics routine, it doesn't have
- 24:17Speaker 3: that same feeling as a figure skater or a dance
- 24:21Speaker 3: ice dancer routine.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Yeah, as far as it's the transitions, it's the transitions,
- 24:27Speaker 2: and it's musicality, it's details, and I know that I
- 24:32Speaker 2: know that gymnasts are a little bit different because like
- 24:34Speaker 2: when they're getting ready for a tumbling pass, I don't
- 24:36Speaker 2: think they're thinking about five six seventy eight.
- 24:38Speaker 1: I think they're thinking of going to go where they
- 24:40Speaker 1: two times in the air and you know, so, yeah,
- 24:45Speaker 1: it's the same. You're you're you're not wrong, you are correct.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Do you think that you can teach?
- 24:52Speaker 4: Now?
- 24:52Speaker 3: I just asked you this and you said, yeah, there's
- 24:54Speaker 3: some people that don't have this natural ability, but they
- 24:57Speaker 3: can skate. Do you you think that you could take
- 25:01Speaker 3: like teach say Laura and I.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Like, okay, I I definitely I could not teach you
- 25:10Speaker 1: to skate. I for sure couldn't teach you to skate.
- 25:13Speaker 1: I can absolutely teach anybody to move. Here, I'm gonna actually,
- 25:18Speaker 1: can I give you one more thing and if you're listening,
- 25:20Speaker 1: you can try. Okay, I'm gonna teach you how to
- 25:24Speaker 1: roll your like do like a body roll. Okay, like
- 25:27Speaker 1: with your head a snake. Take your chin, Take your
- 25:31Speaker 1: chin and put it on your chest. So drop your
- 25:33Speaker 1: chin to your chest. Now take your left ear and
- 25:36Speaker 1: put your left ear on your left shoulder. Yeah, roll
- 25:41Speaker 1: and now listen to the left like you're listening for
- 25:44Speaker 1: a secret. Yes, put those three movements together, so you
- 25:50Speaker 1: go down ear to shoulder and listen. No, that's it.
- 25:58Speaker 1: That's it. And so all of us setting you like
- 26:01Speaker 1: can like snake your body. So it's I think it's
- 26:04Speaker 1: just cues. It's it's cues that I'm giving over and
- 26:07Speaker 1: over and over again to help you become more aware
- 26:12Speaker 1: with your body. Like you know how to put your
- 26:13Speaker 1: chin on your chest, you know how to put your shoulder,
- 26:16Speaker 1: you know how to listen like a secret. I'm totally
- 26:18Speaker 1: practicing that. No question, She's gonna be walking down like
- 26:22Speaker 1: the grocery aud be like yes, hippies in the car,
- 26:26Speaker 1: I'm going, yes, let's go.
- 26:29Speaker 4: So do you miss being center stage because in a sense,
- 26:34Speaker 4: you're behind the camera now.
- 26:36Speaker 1: I I love to perform. I will tell you that
- 26:40Speaker 1: I love it so much and I love being on stage.
- 26:43Speaker 1: And that was something that as I started getting older.
- 26:47Speaker 1: You know, I'm in LA, I'm auditioning, and now I'm
- 26:50Speaker 1: like finding myself like the oldest one on the audition,
- 26:53Speaker 1: and I'm like, oh my god, this is what am
- 26:54Speaker 1: I going to do? What am I going to do
- 26:57Speaker 1: to fulfill this need? Yes to like to perform. And
- 27:04Speaker 1: so I had started my production company, and you know,
- 27:08Speaker 1: I did all the creative and the first time I
- 27:12Speaker 1: ever saw something I created on the stage, like it
- 27:15Speaker 1: was an opening number for a corporate convention, I remember
- 27:19Speaker 1: sitting in the back of the room and I just
- 27:21Speaker 1: watched it and I was like, I'm gonna be okay.
- 27:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna be okay because I had this massive sense
- 27:29Speaker 1: of fulfillment. Even though I wasn't the one on the stage,
- 27:33Speaker 1: I was still being creative. I was still part of
- 27:36Speaker 1: the process. I was still directing. I was still in
- 27:40Speaker 1: this space of entertainment, and that was the moment that
- 27:44Speaker 1: I knew like I was gonna be okay. And I
- 27:47Speaker 1: still you know, I still get to I'm still producing
- 27:50Speaker 1: and I'm still directing and then working with the Skaters.
- 27:53Speaker 1: It's still a creative outlet. I mean, give me a
- 27:58Speaker 1: microphone at all. Like, maybe I need to go on
- 28:04Speaker 1: a speaking tour now, because I I love to be
- 28:08Speaker 1: on stage, but I also just love I love being
- 28:13Speaker 1: true to myself and I think that myself as a
- 28:16Speaker 1: person like I like to interact, I like to talk
- 28:20Speaker 1: to people, I like to laugh, I like to have
- 28:23Speaker 1: and that, to me, that's all like it's kind of
- 28:26Speaker 1: performative in the most authentic way. You know, So I
- 28:31Speaker 1: don't need to be Yeah, that's a good point.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Well if you are, so you've started this business, and
- 28:40Speaker 3: I think that it's really it's easy for people to
- 28:44Speaker 3: just see the highlights.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Randy is doing all this cool, She's going to the Olympics.
- 28:48Speaker 3: You know, she was on Dancing with or So you
- 28:51Speaker 3: think you could dance blah blah blah blah blah. But
- 28:54Speaker 3: I'm sure there's been some setbacks there some harder times
- 29:00Speaker 3: that come with just entrepreneurship and business in general.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Have you had any of those times? Or was always
- 29:08Speaker 1: just easy peasy? I've had none of those times. My
- 29:11Speaker 1: life is easy and everything's happen. I don't know what
- 29:15Speaker 1: you're talking about them. Oh my god. Yeah, the wave,
- 29:22Speaker 1: the wave is the wave is real big. Yeah. Of course,
- 29:26Speaker 1: of course you get down. Of course I get sad.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Of course you know all those things. I think what
- 29:33Speaker 1: I am learning and I'll probably continue to learn my
- 29:38Speaker 1: entire life is to really ride the wave and not
- 29:43Speaker 1: get stuck down for too long, because it's all part
- 29:48Speaker 1: of it, you know, it's all. You can't possibly live
- 29:52Speaker 1: up here otherwise you won't know how good you have it.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I'm very conscious of burnout well, and I used to,
- 30:02Speaker 1: like in my late thirties, I was burning, and I'm
- 30:06Speaker 1: talking like burnout, I'm in bed, I'm not functioning. Burnout.
- 30:11Speaker 1: That would happen probably like two or three times a year,
- 30:15Speaker 1: and I would just slip back. I'm like, what, okay,
- 30:18Speaker 1: what is it that's causing me to get to this moment?
- 30:22Speaker 1: What happened that that really tipped the scale, And a
- 30:26Speaker 1: lot of it was I wasn't happy in either the
- 30:29Speaker 1: work I was doing or a client that I was
- 30:31Speaker 1: working for. I wasn't getting enough sleep. It was just
- 30:35Speaker 1: it was things that were very much in my control,
- 30:38Speaker 1: and I have taken a lot of steps and it's
- 30:41Speaker 1: very you know, top of mind. That burnout is. I
- 30:45Speaker 1: don't I don't want to burn out. If I'm tired,
- 30:48Speaker 1: I will go take a nap. If I don't want
- 30:49Speaker 1: to work with a client, I can't do it. I
- 30:51Speaker 1: don't have time for new skaters right now. You know
- 30:54Speaker 1: things like that where it's like I used to just
- 30:56Speaker 1: say yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, this fear of like
- 30:59Speaker 1: not having enough work to finally being able to say,
- 31:02Speaker 1: you know what, for my own health and for my
- 31:05Speaker 1: own sanity, the answer has to be no. Thank you
- 31:07Speaker 1: so much for thinking of me. One of my books open,
- 31:10Speaker 1: I'll let you know. Type of type of mentality. So yeah,
- 31:15Speaker 1: the burnout, the burnout is is something that I'm very
- 31:19Speaker 1: conscious about, you know, because I have a very full life.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I love it. It's by design. I'm we're very busy,
- 31:25Speaker 1: and I don't I don't think like that word like,
- 31:28Speaker 1: oh I'm so busy, so busy we are that the
- 31:31Speaker 1: schedule's packed in the best way. So yeah, right, just
- 31:37Speaker 1: riding the wave, writing it when it's up and writing
- 31:40Speaker 1: it when it's down, and knowing that it's going to
- 31:42Speaker 1: change either way.
- 31:43Speaker 4: You know, how often would you say that you're traveling
- 31:47Speaker 4: because it seems like you're gone like seventy of the year.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Or is it eighty or is it ninety? I think
- 31:58Speaker 1: last year we trive. I was the road like one
- 32:00Speaker 1: hundred and forty thousand miles last year. Oh so yeah,
- 32:04Speaker 1: it's a lot, it's a lot. I have a very
- 32:06Speaker 1: expensive storage unit here in Salt Lake City.
- 32:09Speaker 4: It's so how do you manage that kind of schedule
- 32:13Speaker 4: while maintaining like your help, your energy, your creativity and
- 32:19Speaker 4: to not avoid that burnout? Is it just the boundaries?
- 32:22Speaker 1: Is it just saying no?
- 32:24Speaker 4: Because traveling in itself is amazing, but it's exhausting.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it's exhausting. It's exhausting. Well, a couple of things.
- 32:33Speaker 1: I am openly a snob about the way I travel,
- 32:39Speaker 1: and I am not sorry about it. You know, we
- 32:43Speaker 1: can't be traveling Spirit Airlines on the six am. You know,
- 32:46Speaker 1: I'm thirty two eight, you know, so I am a
- 32:51Speaker 1: snob about the way I travel like, you know, I
- 32:54Speaker 1: want to fly Delta and I have the seat preference,
- 32:57Speaker 1: and I'd like to go the lounge and I want
- 32:59Speaker 1: a nice cardig get to the airport. Because it is hard.
- 33:04Speaker 1: It is very hard to live on the road, and
- 33:06Speaker 1: I wish that I could be like yep, I have
- 33:08Speaker 1: it all figured out. But I think the hardest thing
- 33:13Speaker 1: while I'm on the road is continuing to move my body.
- 33:17Speaker 1: For me, so like in the morning, waking up and
- 33:21Speaker 1: moving first thing, even if it's for five or ten minutes,
- 33:24Speaker 1: just like moving my body and feeling where I'm at
- 33:28Speaker 1: so that I'm able to go out and do my
- 33:29Speaker 1: job with my full self, if that makes sense. Yeah,
- 33:34Speaker 1: something I am normalizing and I don't care because it's
- 33:37Speaker 1: not performative. It is so selfish, it's very self serving.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Is I stretch all the time in the airport before
- 33:44Speaker 1: I get on planes. I'll always go find a corner,
- 33:47Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, but I'm I'm like touching my toes
- 33:51Speaker 1: and stretching out my hips and continuously moving. Obviously, I
- 33:59Speaker 1: mean I'd love to say like, yeah, I'm stone cold
- 34:01Speaker 1: sober when I don't drink. That is like a guaranteed
- 34:04Speaker 1: you're gonna fill so much more amazing. But you know,
- 34:08Speaker 1: sometimes the glass of wine just gets you like to
- 34:13Speaker 1: say no. Sometimes it's something that it's not easy and
- 34:18Speaker 1: you have to put the effort in. You have to say, like, Okay,
- 34:21Speaker 1: how many glasses of water if I drink today? It's
- 34:23Speaker 1: nine pm, winding down? I need sleep. No, I'm not
- 34:27Speaker 1: doing a six am flight if I don't have to. No,
- 34:31Speaker 1: I'm not doing two layovers either. And you know what,
- 34:34Speaker 1: actually I just got home, so I'm not gonna be
- 34:36Speaker 1: able to do that this weekend either. So yeah, boundaries,
- 34:40Speaker 1: all the boundaries.
- 34:41Speaker 4: Do you think it's taken you to be forty years
- 34:45Speaker 4: old to have those boundaries to like really stand strong
- 34:49Speaker 4: in them?
- 34:50Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, you know. You know what's It's so interesting
- 34:53Speaker 1: because I feel like, first of all, I love getting older.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I love it. I thought my thirties were the best,
- 35:00Speaker 1: and now I'm like, no, my forties are forties are
- 35:02Speaker 1: the best. I think like knowing myself more and coming
- 35:10Speaker 1: to understand who I am as a person has allowed
- 35:13Speaker 1: me to create the boundaries. Because when you're young and
- 35:17Speaker 1: people pleasing, I had no boundaries. I was just being
- 35:20Speaker 1: taken advantage out of and walked all over and because
- 35:24Speaker 1: you don't. I don't want to hurt your feelings and
- 35:25Speaker 1: I don't want to see no one. I don't want
- 35:26Speaker 1: to make you feel bad, and I don't want to
- 35:28Speaker 1: Now I'm like, I'm not in control of your feelings.
- 35:31Speaker 1: I am sorry if you feel that way. Those were
- 35:34Speaker 1: not my intentions or whatever. But yeah, it's it's like,
- 35:37Speaker 1: the more I come to know myself, the better I
- 35:41Speaker 1: can treat myself. And that is that's being able to
- 35:45Speaker 1: say no or no that's not for me, or uh no,
- 35:50Speaker 1: i'd rather be alone right now, or no, I can't
- 35:52Speaker 1: do that tonight. But it's not easy, right, Like, I
- 35:55Speaker 1: don't think that. I don't think that setting boundaries and
- 35:59Speaker 1: keeping boundaries are easy. I think it becomes that, Okay,
- 36:03Speaker 1: if I don't do this, then I'm gonna hit burnout.
- 36:07Speaker 1: So what's more important Maybe hurting someone's feelings not on purpose,
- 36:12Speaker 1: or taking care of myself so then I can then
- 36:15Speaker 1: show up for you one hundred percent the next day. Yeah,
- 36:19Speaker 1: we're gonna choose myself.
- 36:22Speaker 4: Your husband travels also quite a bit, correct, So how
- 36:28Speaker 4: has your relationship with their like what's been the most
- 36:33Speaker 4: difficult part about both of you traveling. Has it been
- 36:37Speaker 4: hard on your relationship? Have you guys figured out how
- 36:40Speaker 4: to manage that.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Yeah. When we when we first started dating, we did
- 36:44Speaker 1: we dated long distance. We were like, you know, we're
- 36:46Speaker 1: in the thick of our careers, we're building, and we're
- 36:49Speaker 1: very focused on our career, and so when we started dating,
- 36:52Speaker 1: it was like I love you and also I'm building,
- 36:55Speaker 1: you know. So so it was a kind of a
- 36:57Speaker 1: known thing that we were very used to spending a
- 37:01Speaker 1: lot of time apart. And then COVID hit and then
- 37:06Speaker 1: all of a sudden, we went from being apart all
- 37:08Speaker 1: the time to being together all the time, and that
- 37:13Speaker 1: in itself taught us both a lot. It was like,
- 37:15Speaker 1: oh my god, you were driving me nuts, like get
- 37:18Speaker 1: out of my space. Right. So then so then we
- 37:22Speaker 1: go to that extreme and then and then you know,
- 37:23Speaker 1: we learn a lot about each other and it ended
- 37:24Speaker 1: up being great. It was, you know, unfortunately fortunately and
- 37:28Speaker 1: unfortunately a great time in our life to actually like
- 37:30Speaker 1: get to know each other on a on a deeper level.
- 37:34Speaker 1: And then you know, the entertainment industry came back like
- 37:38Speaker 1: with a fury cost COVID and all of a sudden,
- 37:42Speaker 1: we went from together twenty four to seven to on
- 37:44Speaker 1: the road again apart. That was very difficult because we
- 37:49Speaker 1: didn't know how to manage. It was like this ping
- 37:52Speaker 1: pong of how are we managing our relationship, our businesses,
- 37:59Speaker 1: our careers, our travel. It was, it was so much
- 38:02Speaker 1: and that was not an easy time for us. That
- 38:05Speaker 1: was that was very difficult of like, okay, what are
- 38:09Speaker 1: what do we want and what are we doing because
- 38:10Speaker 1: this isn't working? So what are we changing? And what
- 38:14Speaker 1: we ended up coming to the conclusion of is we
- 38:18Speaker 1: didn't want to spend more than two weeks apart. So
- 38:21Speaker 1: any time a job came up or anything, any travel
- 38:25Speaker 1: or anything, it was like, okay, it's yet, like obviously yes,
- 38:29Speaker 1: and and also if it's more than two weeks, then
- 38:31Speaker 1: better figure out how we're going to see each other.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Either I'm coming to you or you're saying you know,
- 38:37Speaker 1: no in the contract, or I have to go home
- 38:39Speaker 1: every two weeks or whatever. It was like we were,
- 38:41Speaker 1: you know, we were very focused on making this work
- 38:44Speaker 1: because we knew that we were more than some of
- 38:47Speaker 1: our parts, more than the some of our parts, and
- 38:50Speaker 1: and we knew we wanted to make that work. So
- 38:55Speaker 1: you know, from that from what you could say was
- 38:59Speaker 1: the dark. It's the hardest time of our relationship to
- 39:03Speaker 1: now where we are. I'm so grateful that we stuck
- 39:06Speaker 1: through it, and because now now I just I feel
- 39:09Speaker 1: like we're We're always learning about each other and we
- 39:12Speaker 1: give each other space to grow as individuals. We're both
- 39:16Speaker 1: you know, like I said, we're heavy in building our careers.
- 39:19Speaker 1: I don't think it's going to stop anytime soon. And also,
- 39:24Speaker 1: you know, we've recently started doing more shows together, so
- 39:28Speaker 1: now we get to travel a lot more together. So yeah,
- 39:33Speaker 1: when you want to make something work, you can make
- 39:35Speaker 1: it work, like we just both wanted it and we
- 39:38Speaker 1: figured out how to do it.
- 39:43Speaker 4: So you and Haley have something in common, and that
- 39:46Speaker 4: is your husbands are your it.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Guys.
- 39:52Speaker 4: They're your tech geniuses in your businesses. They're kind of
- 39:57Speaker 4: like your CEOs, like the husband. And so I know
- 40:03Speaker 4: because I work with a Lea how that goes and
- 40:06Speaker 4: Steve her husband's amazing, just like Iggy. I know both
- 40:11Speaker 4: of your guys is incredible husbands. How has it been
- 40:15Speaker 4: hard for you to work with your husband?
- 40:19Speaker 1: We work so well together, and I think we lucked
- 40:22Speaker 1: out in the fact that, like we are so different.
- 40:26Speaker 1: I am very much like I don't know technology at all.
- 40:31Speaker 1: And even though Iggy, like Iggy's not really an it guy,
- 40:34Speaker 1: He's actually just a genius creative director and designer who
- 40:37Speaker 1: knows it. So but here's what I'll say. I really
- 40:43Speaker 1: had this desire to be with someone that I could
- 40:49Speaker 1: build with. I wanted to build, and I kept telling
- 40:52Speaker 1: myself this, I want to build a life with someone
- 40:54Speaker 1: I want to build. And what I meant was I
- 40:57Speaker 1: not only do I want to build a life, I
- 40:59Speaker 1: want to build companies, I want to build careers. I
- 41:02Speaker 1: want to build you know, this amazing relationship, like I
- 41:05Speaker 1: just wanted to build, and I think I ended up
- 41:09Speaker 1: getting more than I more than I even asked for,
- 41:11Speaker 1: because he does all of the back end of my websites.
- 41:16Speaker 1: He you know, make sure my computers are updated and
- 41:19Speaker 1: all my devices are charged, and they, you know, make
- 41:22Speaker 1: sure that I have the best microphones and the best cameras,
- 41:25Speaker 1: and even for my online studio. He films and edits
- 41:30Speaker 1: and publishes, and he does it all. I'm just the
- 41:32Speaker 1: on camera talent, you know. So so I really lucked
- 41:36Speaker 1: out in having a true partner, and he truly is
- 41:44Speaker 1: like the definition of like my partner in life, business, relationship, travel, career,
- 41:51Speaker 1: all of those things. And I will say, because we
- 41:55Speaker 1: tell this to people all the time, it's very interesting
- 41:57Speaker 1: that when we're on site, when we're on a job,
- 42:00Speaker 1: he's the creative director. Don't ever hand me a length
- 42:03Speaker 1: piece of paper and say tell me your ideas, because
- 42:05Speaker 1: it will remain blake. I I'm the producer, Like, you
- 42:11Speaker 1: tell me what you want to happen, and I will
- 42:12Speaker 1: make it happen. I will. I will make all of
- 42:14Speaker 1: those things happen. So on site he's like, are the
- 42:18Speaker 1: shade of blues, and I'm like, okay, we'll get what.
- 42:21Speaker 1: We're behind schedule and we need this and this and this,
- 42:23Speaker 1: and so we're moving like let's pick up face. And
- 42:26Speaker 1: when we get home he is like money and investments
- 42:30Speaker 1: of technology and a computer and then book. And I'm like,
- 42:33Speaker 1: you know, I'm not really feeling that we should go
- 42:38Speaker 1: feel more like, you know, like I'm much more that
- 42:40Speaker 1: person at home. So we are the opposite people and
- 42:44Speaker 1: then we get to switch on on jobs and stuff.
- 42:48Speaker 1: So I think that keeps it interesting that I'm not
- 42:50Speaker 1: always just in like one role. You know, we really
- 42:54Speaker 1: do switch roles all the time. Yeah, that's great. How
- 43:01Speaker 1: old were you when you met him? You met him
- 43:03Speaker 1: later in life? I say, this is my second marriage, yep,
- 43:07Speaker 1: so uh yeah, I didn't meet him until I was
- 43:10Speaker 1: thirty thirty three maybe, thank god, thank god I met
- 43:16Speaker 1: him later. I mean, I don't know, do you guys
- 43:19Speaker 1: feel like you've transformed, like different lives at different period
- 43:23Speaker 1: nine one?
- 43:27Speaker 4: Yeah, listen, accidental marriages, like, it's just something that sometimes happens.
- 43:35Speaker 1: I know, I know, I look back and I'm like,
- 43:37Speaker 1: who was she?
- 43:39Speaker 4: Huh?
- 43:41Speaker 1: But I'm really glad that we met when we did.
- 43:43Speaker 1: It's been it's been such a blessing to be able
- 43:45Speaker 1: to meet someone when you have figured yourself out a
- 43:48Speaker 1: little bit more. You know, when you know yourself a
- 43:51Speaker 1: little bit more, you know what you want, you know
- 43:53Speaker 1: what you don't want, and you're able to express it.
- 43:56Speaker 1: You know, when when I was younger, like, you don't
- 44:01Speaker 1: even know yourself, so how can you know you're still
- 44:04Speaker 1: trying to figure it out. You know, I don't even
- 44:07Speaker 1: know what I want. I don't even know who I am.
- 44:09Speaker 1: So it's really grateful that we got to meet each
- 44:11Speaker 1: other later in life, and then from there you know,
- 44:16Speaker 1: you still grow and you still change, and also we're
- 44:19Speaker 1: doing it. I feel very blessed that we're doing it together. Yeah,
- 44:25Speaker 1: it's so true.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Do you believe success comes from more traying, discipline or creativity?
- 44:34Speaker 1: Ooh, discipline? Discipline for sure. I mean, and I say
- 44:40Speaker 1: that because I mean this sounds so cliche. It's the
- 44:45Speaker 1: little things that you do every single day that end
- 44:49Speaker 1: up making the biggest impact. And if you don't have
- 44:53Speaker 1: the discipline to do the little thing every day, then
- 44:58Speaker 1: I don't think it matters. If you're creative. We're not
- 45:01Speaker 1: because you're not gonna have you know, you're not gonna
- 45:03Speaker 1: have discipline to do anything with Even if you had creativity,
- 45:07Speaker 1: I can't even do anything with it because I'm not
- 45:08Speaker 1: disciplined enough to do the small things. And I say
- 45:13Speaker 1: that like it's easy, it's not not you. Now, I
- 45:20Speaker 1: will say one thing that has has helped me kind
- 45:24Speaker 1: of like keep that mind strength and to do the
- 45:27Speaker 1: things that some Sometimes I don't want to work out.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Sometimes I'm tired and I want to nap, and I
- 45:33Speaker 1: need to know the difference between are you being lazi
- 45:35Speaker 1: or are you actually needing rest? But I liked it,
- 45:40Speaker 1: like get up and work out is the if I
- 45:43Speaker 1: want to work out every day, just get up and
- 45:44Speaker 1: work out. That's how I get it done every single day.
- 45:47Speaker 1: And having the discipline to you know, get on the
- 45:49Speaker 1: bike or get in the class or do whatever it is,
- 45:52Speaker 1: like first thing in the morning. That is like my
- 45:56Speaker 1: personal road to success.
- 46:01Speaker 4: Anyone that's listening that might be in this position that
- 46:07Speaker 4: wants to start a new career or in their midlife
- 46:10Speaker 4: and maybe they've just been a mother, but they're passionate
- 46:14Speaker 4: about things or want to start something. I mean, you
- 46:17Speaker 4: literally created this incredible position and business. What advice would
- 46:24Speaker 4: you give to anyone listening and how to find your
- 46:30Speaker 4: passion or create something in your life.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Well, here's what I believe. I believe that everyone is
- 46:38Speaker 1: special and no one is special, which means kind of
- 46:42Speaker 1: the same like if I can do it, you can
- 46:44Speaker 1: do it. Like I truly believe that. I think that
- 46:49Speaker 1: one thing that really helped me find direction of like
- 46:53Speaker 1: what I what I was meant to do, is I
- 46:58Speaker 1: heavily got into meditation and found answers that came from
- 47:03Speaker 1: me and not from other people or what like what
- 47:09Speaker 1: I thought that I should be doing. And just because
- 47:12Speaker 1: you're good as something doesn't like I would be a
- 47:14Speaker 1: great slight attendant. I probaysly could be a flight attendant,
- 47:20Speaker 1: you know, like I'm not meant to do that, and
- 47:21Speaker 1: I'm as but my bad like my you know, my
- 47:24Speaker 1: my sister was appli attenant, They're amazing. I found I
- 47:29Speaker 1: spent a lot of time and energy and resources listening
- 47:35Speaker 1: to me, like finding my self confidence and finding my
- 47:40Speaker 1: self worth. And then that is what kind of led
- 47:44Speaker 1: the path to what I should be doing. I felt
- 47:47Speaker 1: like I when I was more connected to myself, I
- 47:50Speaker 1: felt more. I felt like I had more intuition. I
- 47:54Speaker 1: felt like I was guided more from me, not from
- 47:58Speaker 1: anybody else. So who should I call today? What should
- 48:03Speaker 1: I focus on today? Where should I go? What conversation
- 48:06Speaker 1: should I have? You know? Who should I take this job?
- 48:11Speaker 1: Should I not? Like? I just felt more guided because
- 48:13Speaker 1: I was connected to myself. So finding I think connecting
- 48:19Speaker 1: to yourself is the first thing, because if I don't
- 48:21Speaker 1: feel connected to myself, I can't I don't feel guided
- 48:25Speaker 1: to do anything, you know, to really go there. And
- 48:31Speaker 1: then the second thing I would say is is I
- 48:34Speaker 1: think I spend a lot of time at first, early
- 48:38Speaker 1: in my career. And you know, even even when I
- 48:41Speaker 1: was like starting starting some of the companies, is like,
- 48:44Speaker 1: how am I going to do that? How? I don't
- 48:46Speaker 1: I don't understand how. I don't understand how. And the
- 48:50Speaker 1: more I let go of the how, and the more
- 48:54Speaker 1: I focused on, Okay, well, what is what is my purpose?
- 48:57Speaker 1: What is the purpose? What is the what the am
- 49:00Speaker 1: I bringing?
- 49:02Speaker 2: What?
- 49:02Speaker 1: I won't want this to feel like, uh, you know,
- 49:06Speaker 1: things that were a little more ethereal the how to
- 49:10Speaker 1: do it? It just kind of showed up. And if
- 49:14Speaker 1: you're I mean, I guess that I am really spiritual
- 49:18Speaker 1: in the way that I believe that things do show
- 49:20Speaker 1: up when I meet them. And so I kind of
- 49:24Speaker 1: let go of the how and was just really more
- 49:27Speaker 1: focused on the why, like why am I doing this? Oh?
- 49:31Speaker 1: Because it makes me feel good. I want to do
- 49:33Speaker 1: more things that make me feel good. And then all
- 49:35Speaker 1: of a sudden, I'm having conversations in rooms and doing
- 49:39Speaker 1: jobs where I'm like, oh my god, how did that happen?
- 49:41Speaker 1: I don't know how, because it wasn't worried about it,
- 49:44Speaker 1: you know, I was just focus on the on the
- 49:48Speaker 1: the wise. I don't know if that answered your question,
- 49:50Speaker 1: but that that's been has been my that's been my
- 49:52Speaker 1: experience of anything. I will say too, Like on a
- 49:55Speaker 1: more practical level, there's a book. I recommend this book
- 49:58Speaker 1: to everybody. It's called The e Myth and it is.
- 50:04Speaker 1: It's a book that changed the way that I look
- 50:06Speaker 1: at business, especially when you turn a talent into a
- 50:12Speaker 1: career instead of just as a hobby. This book really
- 50:17Speaker 1: helped me understand how to actually run a business, Like
- 50:21Speaker 1: just because I was a good dancer doesn't mean that
- 50:23Speaker 1: I should have a dance business like whatever that meant, Like,
- 50:29Speaker 1: this isn't show fun, it's show business. And it helped
- 50:31Speaker 1: me put it into perspective of what is the business
- 50:36Speaker 1: of the show? How do I run the contracts? How
- 50:39Speaker 1: do I talk? How do I communicate? What does my
- 50:42Speaker 1: back end look like? How are my emails? You know,
- 50:44Speaker 1: like things that run the business and not just the
- 50:50Speaker 1: the oh i'm a talent, I'm the dancer, you know.
- 50:54Speaker 1: So I would I would highly recommend that book to
- 50:57Speaker 1: anybody who is considered taking a talent and or a
- 51:02Speaker 1: hobby and turning it into a business.
- 51:07Speaker 4: I love that advice. Are you still doing your meditation
- 51:12Speaker 4: practice daily?
- 51:14Speaker 1: Oh? Absolutely absolutely? I mean of course there are days
- 51:17Speaker 1: when my kid get skipped, you know, And I can't
- 51:22Speaker 1: tell you the difference of the way of the way
- 51:26Speaker 1: that I feel about my day, about the way I
- 51:28Speaker 1: feel about myself, right, And then in turn, the way
- 51:32Speaker 1: I feel about myself is how I'm going to show
- 51:34Speaker 1: up for other people. So if I don't feel good
- 51:37Speaker 1: about myself, how am I supposed to show up for
- 51:41Speaker 1: a client, a meeting, this conversation, my husband, my parents?
- 51:46Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, it's really changed change the way that
- 51:50Speaker 1: I look at things for sure.
- 51:52Speaker 4: Hailey just started a meditation practice and committed to sixty days,
- 51:56Speaker 4: right or was.
- 51:57Speaker 1: This sixty days six? Sixty six? My nose?
- 52:02Speaker 3: But I'm like not giving up, and so I'm just
- 52:05Speaker 3: going to keep doing as many as I can.
- 52:07Speaker 1: That's it. That's it's just showing up. It's totally just
- 52:11Speaker 1: showing up. Can I tell you when I first When
- 52:14Speaker 1: I first I was living in LA and I didn't
- 52:17Speaker 1: know anything about meditation, and one of my best friends
- 52:19Speaker 1: is like, mindy, you have to meditate, you have to meditate.
- 52:22Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, whatever, Like I wasn't. I was like,
- 52:27Speaker 1: it's like that's other people do. I don't do that.
- 52:30Speaker 1: That's what I That's what I thought too well. And
- 52:33Speaker 1: and so what I would do is I would like
- 52:35Speaker 1: turn on in grot, turn on to meditation, and I
- 52:38Speaker 1: would take a nap and be like, oh, I felt
- 52:41Speaker 1: crazy like I'm meditated today. I was just nappy, like
- 52:44Speaker 1: I didn't really understand. And I think that I think
- 52:48Speaker 1: meditation is misunderstood. That's what I think. Yeah, And it's like, oh,
- 52:54Speaker 1: I don't have time to meditate. It's like red flag
- 52:58Speaker 1: that means you should meditate even more. You know, you
- 53:01Speaker 1: definitely have time for anything you want to make time for.
- 53:06Speaker 1: But yeah, I think I think it's just misunderstood of
- 53:09Speaker 1: like I'm not going to be good at it or
- 53:11Speaker 1: I don't get it. It's like that's your brain talking.
- 53:16Speaker 1: Turn that off and and find what works for you,
- 53:21Speaker 1: whether it's like insight timer or I don't know if
- 53:24Speaker 1: there's a thousand apps for it, or just like that's
- 53:27Speaker 1: what I'm saying, you know. Also I will say, like
- 53:30Speaker 1: deciding the night before to plan my morning, like like
- 53:35Speaker 1: setting myself up for success in the morning is also
- 53:39Speaker 1: has been a major game changer because when you get
- 53:43Speaker 1: up and you're like, I think I'm gonna meditate, but
- 53:45Speaker 1: I don't know which one. So then you open the
- 53:47Speaker 1: app and then you're scrolling and you're like, I just
- 53:50Speaker 1: don't know. Oh, you know what, I gotta getut my coffee,
- 53:52Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, you're like takes over.
- 53:54Speaker 1: You'd ever meditated, right, So it's like the night before Okay,
- 54:00Speaker 1: here's the one. Start to say cute up, Okay, done, Erica.
- 54:05Speaker 1: I don't even have to think about it. There. No
- 54:08Speaker 1: energy is spent about thinking about what I'm gonna do.
- 54:12Speaker 1: I just already know no, so much more successful in
- 54:16Speaker 1: the morning.
- 54:18Speaker 4: I saw that goes with everything, the workout, the meditation, yeah,
- 54:23Speaker 4: the coffee.
- 54:24Speaker 1: All of it. Yeah, I know. Are you here exactly?
- 54:30Speaker 1: Although I was have you seen that? Have you seen
- 54:32Speaker 1: that video? It's like I'm on a zoom meeting. But
- 54:35Speaker 1: if I just put wine in my coffee mug, then
- 54:37Speaker 1: I can just like but it really get coffee in here.
- 54:40Speaker 1: But as I was pouring it, like getting ready for
- 54:42Speaker 1: getting ready to meet with you guys, I was like, uh,
- 54:45Speaker 1: there could be anything in there. That's a good boy,
- 54:49Speaker 1: I have mine too, you have knowing this could be
- 54:51Speaker 1: whiskey okay near you though it's in here.
- 54:55Speaker 4: So yeah, bro, Randy, for anyone that's listening, where can
- 55:01Speaker 4: people find you?
- 55:02Speaker 1: Yeah, my Instagram yep, my handle is just my name,
- 55:06Speaker 1: Randy Stronk, Randy with an eye. Yeah, come follow along

- 55:32Speaker 1: just saying this because I was on season five. The
- 55:34Speaker 1: season five was legit, like the best season. It was
- 55:38Speaker 1: like at the height of you know, all the you
- 55:42Speaker 1: can dance and it's it's a really good season. And
- 55:45Speaker 1: I'm get one on Emmy that says something, you know, Yeah,
- 55:51Speaker 1: I go trick it out. Go check the red bottom
- 55:53Speaker 1: shoes that I wore, the fake ones. Randy.
