- 0:01There is an idea prevalent in some aspects of Western
- 0:05psychology, both mainstream and pop psychology that it is
- 0:11unhealthy to internalized and hold in strong reactions or
- 0:15emotions. Such as anger, they counseled
- 0:19letting it out and thereby saving oneself from the
- 0:22psychological and physical effects of suppressed, anger.
- 0:26And other strong emotions. They're even groups that Support
- 0:31the idea of scream therapy as a way to express, one's inner
- 0:35rage. Clearly, there is an issue if
- 0:39one is bottling up such strong feelings and suppressing them as
- 0:43this, can indeed have never negative impacts mentally
- 0:48emotionally and physically. The question, however, is
- 0:52whether such an Unleashed expression as is recommended
- 0:56actually does anything to diffuse or resolve the
- 1:01underlying cause. Or in fact, if such expression
- 1:06simply The repeated experience much more likely.
- 1:11When we understand the impact of where we focus attention on what
- 1:15forces arise within us, and as we learn more about the holes
- 1:19that can be created in our protective, vital sheath or
- 1:23energetic envelope. It becomes clear that giving
- 1:27vent to the anger or other strong feelings simply creates
- 1:31and reinforces a path for that Force to establish itself in the
- 1:36being, on an ongoing basis. SRI aurobindo goes to the root
- 1:41of the issue and his treatment of anger.
- 1:44The goal is not to accept the anger within oneself and
- 1:48suppress it, but to understand the pathway of entry and find
- 1:53ways to deny it access to one's being.
- 1:57This can be done with a systematic and disciplined
- 2:00approach to one's inner psychological, Viewpoint and
- 2:04response. SRI aurobindo writes, quote.
- 2:10I think you have always had an idea that to give expression to
- 2:13an Impulse or a movement is the best way.
- 2:16We're even the only way to get rid of it, but that is a
- 2:20mistaken idea. If you give expression to anger,
- 2:24you prolong or confirm the habit of the recurrence of anger, you
- 2:28do not diminish or get rid of the habit.
- 2:32The very first step towards weakening the power of anger in
- 2:35the nature and afterwards, getting rid of it.
- 2:38All together is to refuse all expression to it, enact or
- 2:43speech afterwards. One can go on with more
- 2:47likelihood of success, to throw it out from the thought and
- 2:51feeling also. And so with all other wrong
- 2:55movements, all these movements come from outside from the
- 3:00universal lower nature. where are suggested or thrown upon you
- 3:05by adverse horses, adverse to your spiritual progress, Your
- 3:12method of taking them as your own is again, a wrong method for
- 3:16by doing that, you increase their power to recur and take,
- 3:19hold of you. If you take them as your own,
- 3:23that gives them a kind of right to be there.
- 3:27If you feel them as not your own, then they have no, right?
- 3:31And the will can develop more power to send them away.
- 3:35But you must always have and feel as yours is this will The
- 3:40power to refuse, a sent to refuse admission to a wrong
- 3:45movement, or if it comes in the power, to send it away without
- 3:51expressing it. And quote, reference SRI
