- 2:20So let's get into it, shall we?
- 2:22All right, everyone.
- 2:23So today's show, discipline also means a lot
- 2:30to us, right?
- 2:32Discipline is important which we're going to talk
- 2:33about but motivation will fill you and I
- 2:37want you to do this instead.
- 2:38That's right.
- 2:39It's discipline but we'll get into that.
- 2:41It's Series 5, show 37, episode number 3.
- 2:44Today is a Monday.
- 2:46It is September 7.
- 2:48Welcome to another amazing episode of the ever
- 2:50-popular inspirations for your life show.
- 2:53I'm John C.
- 2:54Morley.
- 2:54I'm a serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video
- 2:57producer, podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, passionate lifelong
- 3:00learner, graduate student at Montclair State University and
- 3:03so grateful now to be a published author.
- 3:06Our master topic this week is your next
- 3:08level will demand a different you.
- 3:11A different kind of you.
- 3:13Today, I'm talking about motivation, okay?
- 3:16And I want to challenge something many people
- 3:21have taught or have been taught, I should
- 3:24say, to believe.
- 3:25You do not need to feel motivated every
- 3:27day to make progress, okay?
- 3:29Motivation feels great when it's there.
- 3:33You wake up energized.
- 3:35You have an idea.
- 3:35You feel ready to attack the day.
- 3:37But what happens when that feeling just suddenly,
- 3:40well, it disappears?
- 3:42What do you do when that feeling disappears?
- 3:44I think that's a hard thing for a
- 3:46lot of people to, you know, to understand,
- 3:49right?
- 3:50If your progress requires motivation to show up
- 3:54first, eventually your progress disappears with it.
- 3:59What you need is something stronger.
- 4:02So let's get into those 30 points.
- 4:04Are you ready?
- 4:04I know you are.
- 4:05Number one, motivation comes and it goes.
- 4:09Motivation is an emotion and emotions change.
- 4:13Some mornings you'll feel unstoppable.
- 4:15Other mornings you won't even want to get
- 4:18started.
- 4:19That's normal.
- 4:20The mistake is building your entire plan around
- 4:22a feeling you cannot guarantee will arrive.
- 4:24Number two, stop requiring excitement before taking action.
- 4:29You don't need to be excited about every
- 4:31important thing you do.
- 4:33Some responsibilities simply need to get done.
- 4:36If you require excitement first, you're giving your
- 4:38feelings permission to decide whether you move forward.
- 4:42Number three, build systems that survive bad moods.
- 4:46A good system shouldn't collapse because you had
- 4:50a frustrating morning.
- 4:52That's important, guys.
- 4:54Create routines that still function when you're tired,
- 4:58distracted, disappointed, or simply just not feeling, well,
- 5:04your best.
- 5:05Number four, discipline carries you when enthusiasm disappears.
- 5:09Because ladies and gentlemen, discipline is going to
- 5:12always be there, but the motivation is going
- 5:15to wane.
- 5:15It's going to go back and forth, back
- 5:17and forth.
- 5:18And that's something that's just going to happen,
- 5:19guys.
- 5:20Something that is going to happen.
- 5:22So number four, discipline carries you when the
- 5:24enthusiasm disappears.
- 5:25Enthusiasm can get you started.
- 5:28Discipline helps carry you and continues all the
- 5:32way.
- 5:33So discipline says, I made a commitment and
- 5:36I'm going to honor it, even though today
- 5:38doesn't feel as exciting as yesterday or that
- 5:41I don't want to do it.
- 5:42Number five, make important actions predictable.
- 5:45If something matters, don't leave it to chance.
- 5:48Give it a place in your day or
- 5:50week.
- 5:51When important actions become predictable, you spend less
- 5:53time deciding whether you're going to do them.
- 5:57I think a lot of people, you know,
- 5:59they get stuck in that pattern.
- 6:00Like, why is this happening to me?
- 6:02Or, you know, what's going on?
- 6:04And I think that's an important piece that
- 6:06a lot of people, like, they just don't
- 6:08really understand that and what it means.
- 6:11But I think we have to digest it
- 6:13and understand that it's something that really can
- 6:17help us through our life and achieve some
- 6:20greatness.
- 6:22Number six, stop renegotiating your commitments.
- 6:26Every morning, if you already decided something matters,
- 6:29why debate it again every day?
- 6:33Constantly renegotiating gives you endless opportunities to talk
- 6:36yourself out of what you already decided to
- 6:40do.
- 6:40And I think that can be a problem
- 6:43for a lot of people because, you know,
- 6:44you're started, but then you, like, talk yourself
- 6:46out of what you planned on doing.
- 6:49And you didn't want to do that, guys,
- 6:51but somehow you did it.
- 6:53And I think that's a big problem, right?
- 7:01That's an important thing to understand, okay?
- 7:04Number seven, create routines that reduce decision fatigue.
- 7:08Every decision, let's face it, uses mental energy.
- 7:12That's a fact.
- 7:13Decide some things ahead of time.
- 7:15Know when you'll work, study, exercise, create, prepare,
- 7:19or handle important responsibilities.
- 7:21Save your thinking for decisions that actually require
- 7:24it.
- 7:25Yes, guys.
- 7:26Number 18.
- 7:27Number eight, excuse me, I'm jumping ahead of
- 7:29the show.
- 7:30Number eight, consistency beats occasional intensity.
- 7:33One extraordinary day followed by six days of
- 7:37nothing usually doesn't beat steady progress, okay?
- 7:40You don't have to operate at maximum intensity
- 7:42constantly.
- 7:43You need to keep returning to the work
- 7:45that you've been doing.
- 7:48And when you do this, you're going to
- 7:50emphasize things in your life, things that maybe
- 7:53you didn't know existed but really will have
- 7:55a big difference in your life.
- 7:57Number nine, do the work when nobody is
- 7:59watching.
- 8:00I said this before.
- 8:01You know, everybody wants to do the work
- 8:03or do what you need to do when
- 8:04people are watching, when there's an audience.
- 8:05But the most important work that can be
- 8:08done is the stuff that you do when
- 8:10no one else is watching.
- 8:13Because see, what you do in private actually
- 8:15filters in public.
- 8:17It's easy to perform when people are cheering
- 8:20you on.
- 8:20Character develops when nobody knows whether you follow
- 8:24through.
- 8:25Those private decisions eventually become visible through the
- 8:28results that you exhibit.
- 8:30Number 10, guys.
- 8:32Number 10 is stop depending on inspiration alone.
- 8:36Inspiration is wonderful.
- 8:38Don't get it wrong.
- 8:40But it isn't a dependable schedule.
- 8:43If you create only when you're inspired, work
- 8:46only when you're energized, or learn only when
- 8:49you're curious, your progress becomes unpredictable.
- 8:54Learn to begin without waiting for the perfect
- 8:56feeling.
- 8:58That's important, guys.
- 8:59Number 11, make starting easier.
- 9:02Sometimes the hardest part is getting started.
- 9:05Reduce that friction.
- 9:07Prepare what you need beforehand.
- 9:08Open the document.
- 9:10Put your materials where you can reach them.
- 9:13Make the first step almost impossible to avoid.
- 9:17And I know that sounds like a lot
- 9:19to chew on.
- 9:20But you see, once you get going, once
- 9:23you take that first step, once you keep
- 9:24doing it, it's going to change who you
- 9:27really are.
- 9:28And I think that's an important thing that
- 9:31many people just don't understand.
- 9:33They don't understand how that works or how
- 9:37you make those changes.
- 9:39But I want to tell you, you make
- 9:40those changes by being you, by showing up
- 9:45for yourself every single time.
- 9:48Number 12, remove unnecessary choices.
- 9:51Too many choices can become, well, another reason
- 9:54to just delay or procrastinate.
- 9:56Simplify repetitive decisions.
- 9:59You don't need to redesign your entire process
- 10:01every time you sit down to work.
- 10:03Okay?
- 10:04Number 13, schedule what matters.
- 10:08If something is genuinely important to you, give
- 10:12it the time it deserves.
- 10:13A goal without time attached to it can
- 10:16remain a wish indefinitely.
- 10:18Your calendar reveals what is actually receiving your
- 10:22attention.
- 10:23I think it's important to look at your
- 10:24calendar and make sure the things that you
- 10:26want get your attention and the things that
- 10:28don't, don't get that much attention.
- 10:31Okay?
- 10:34That's important.
- 10:36That's a very important thing too.
- 10:39Number 14, protect your productive hours.
- 10:44Yeah.
- 10:45Learn when you do your strongest work and
- 10:49protect the time when possible.
- 10:52Don't automatically surrender your best hours to interruptions,
- 10:57distractions, or things that could have been handled
- 10:59later, right?
- 11:00Everybody says, well, you know, I'll do it
- 11:02later.
- 11:03I got time to do it.
- 11:05Right?
- 11:06Number 15, build minimum standards for difficult days.
- 11:10Not every day will be exceptional.
- 11:13Spoiler alert.
- 11:14Okay?
- 11:17Decide what the minimum acceptable action looks like
- 11:20for you.
- 11:21Maybe you can't do everything today, but you
- 11:23can do something.
- 11:25Your minimum keeps the chain alive, right?
- 11:28Just the minimum.
- 11:29This is why I always say to you
- 11:30when you're doing something, don't do more, like
- 11:33just do a certain amount every day and
- 11:34make sure it's able to be done.
- 11:36Now, if there are days when you can't
- 11:38even do anything, you got to be able
- 11:40to at least get the needle to move
- 11:41just a tiny bit.
- 11:42I think when that happens, you'll start to
- 11:45get more energy to want to do more,
- 11:46right?
- 11:47I think those are important things to understand.
- 11:51Number 16, don't let one bad day become
- 11:55a bad week.
- 11:56I know a lot of people do this.
- 11:57Everyone has days that don't go according to
- 12:00plan.
- 12:01Okay?
- 12:01The danger isn't always the bad day.
- 12:03It's the story you tell yourself afterward.
- 12:06One difficult day doesn't require seven more like
- 12:09it, right?
- 12:10Number 17, restart quickly when you slip.
- 12:13Now, you're going to slip sometimes.
- 12:15I mean, this is just part of life.
- 12:16You will slip, all right?
- 12:18Your ability to restart matters more than your
- 12:21ability to be perfect.
- 12:23When something goes wrong, return as quickly as
- 12:25possible.
- 12:26Don't waste three days punishing yourself for one
- 12:29missed day that you had.
- 12:31It's a missed day, right?
- 12:33Move on.
- 12:35That's important.
- 12:37When we harp on something like that, it
- 12:41precludes us from being able to go further,
- 12:45to achieve our goals.
- 12:46Number 18, stop demanding perfection from consistency, right?
- 12:53Consistency doesn't mean never missing.
- 12:56It means repeatedly returning.
- 12:59Perfection creates impossible standards.
- 13:03Consistency gives you room to be human while
- 13:07still moving in the right direction, right?
- 13:10And I think that's important, that we take
- 13:14the small consistent steps every day.
- 13:16You know, I'm not saying you have to
- 13:18climb a mountain tomorrow, but I am saying
- 13:20you've got to take a few steps.
- 13:22Meaningful steps.
- 13:24Number 19, measure what you actually complete and
- 13:29know what you complete.
- 13:31Intentions do feel productive, but completion tells the
- 13:36real truth.
- 13:37Look at what you're actually finishing.
- 13:40Measurement isn't about criticizing yourself.
- 13:42It's about replacing assumptions with useful information.
- 13:47That's important, guys.
- 13:50Take the assumptions and replace it with useful
- 13:52information.
- 13:53Number 20, make progress visible.
- 13:57When you can see progress, it's easier to
- 14:01understand that your effort matters.
- 14:03Track the completed tasks, milestones, practice sessions, pages,
- 14:08workouts, projects, or whatever measuring item you're using
- 14:13so it makes sense for your goal.
- 14:17And you see, when you see that you're
- 14:19making a little bit of progress, doesn't have
- 14:22to be a lot, you're inclined to want
- 14:25to do more.
- 14:28That's important.
- 14:31You need to make the progress visible, okay?
- 14:34Number 20, when you can see progress, it's
- 14:37easier to understand that your effort matters.
- 14:39Track the completed tasks.
- 14:40As I said, this is important and I
- 14:42want to make sure you know this, all
- 14:43right?
- 14:43I just want to review that.
- 14:45Number 21, reward follow-through, not intention.
- 14:49Intention's good.
- 14:51Intention doesn't really get you to your goal.
- 14:54Don't give yourself the same emotional reward for
- 14:56planning something that you would for actually doing
- 14:59it.
- 15:00Planning has value, but execution deserves recognition.
- 15:03Train yourself to value completion.
- 15:07Intention is good, don't get me wrong, but
- 15:09it doesn't get the goal accomplished.
- 15:14Number 22, learn to build discipline gradually.
- 15:21You don't need to transform overnight.
- 15:24Discipline can be strengthened like any other ability.
- 15:27Start with manageable commitments, keep them consistently, and
- 15:31then expand what you expect from yourself.
- 15:35And as you do that, you're going to
- 15:36start to notice a subtle change in you.
- 15:40And that subtle change is like, wow, I
- 15:42didn't realize I could do this.
- 15:43And you can actually do it, guys.
- 15:46You actually can do it.
- 15:48Number 23, keep promises you make to yourself.
- 15:53Every time, okay, you make a promise to
- 15:57yourself and keep it.
- 15:59You're building trust.
- 16:00Every time you casually abandon one, well, you're
- 16:04teaching yourself that your own commitments are negotiable.
- 16:08Make fewer promises if necessary, but honor them.
- 16:10I think that's a real important thing.
- 16:13We have to learn to honor them.
- 16:15If we don't honor them, then it's be
- 16:16like, well, like, why am I even doing
- 16:19this anyway?
- 16:20What's the point?
- 16:22Why am I doing it?
- 16:25Number 24, guys, become predictable in the right
- 16:30ways.
- 16:33Imagine knowing that when you say you're going
- 16:36to do something, there's an extremely high probability
- 16:39you're actually going to do it, right?
- 16:42That's a powerful form of personal reliability.
- 16:44And I think a lot of people don't
- 16:46really understand that power until it clicks.
- 16:49You might do this 5, 6, 7, 10,
- 16:5212, or even more times.
- 16:54Then suddenly, a light bulb is going to
- 16:56go off your head.
- 16:57And a pithy one's like, wait a minute,
- 17:00I can do this.
- 17:02Number 25, stop asking whether you feel like
- 17:05it.
- 17:06This question gives your mood too much authority.
- 17:10And I think that's a problem.
- 17:12A lot of people decide whether they're going
- 17:13to work based on how they feel.
- 17:17Of course, there will be days, as I
- 17:19told you, you don't feel like doing something.
- 17:22Ask a better question.
- 17:24Is this still important to me?
- 17:26If the answer is yes, then you've got
- 17:28to take the next step, right?
- 17:31Even if you can't take the full step,
- 17:34take a step.
- 17:34Take as much of a step as you
- 17:36can.
- 17:38Number 26, action can create motivation.
- 17:43How does that happen?
- 17:45Well, it's a good question.
- 17:47We often think motivation has to come first.
- 17:50But sometimes the sequence works in reverse.
- 17:52You begin, you make a little bit of
- 17:55progress, you see a little bit of movement,
- 17:57and then motivation appears.
- 18:00Action can generate the feeling you were waiting
- 18:03for.
- 18:04And it can prime the pump over and
- 18:06over again.
- 18:07But if we're only acting on motivation, we
- 18:12may not feel like doing something.
- 18:13If we're disciplined, the motivation is going to
- 18:16come, okay?
- 18:18That's going to cycle through.
- 18:20But use your discipline, okay?
- 18:22That's important, guys, okay?
- 18:25You see the movement, you see what appears,
- 18:27and now you want to do something.
- 18:28You want to change your life.
- 18:30You want to change everybody else's life.
- 18:31But this doesn't just happen like you wake
- 18:34in the morning, and suddenly you want to
- 18:35do this.
- 18:36Number 27, your system should work when you're
- 18:41tired.
- 18:42Anybody can follow a complicated routine on a
- 18:44perfect day, right?
- 18:46Anybody can do that.
- 18:47The real test is whether your system still
- 18:50helps you when your energy is lower.
- 18:54Make it simple enough to survive real life,
- 18:57right?
- 18:59Well, as I said, when the conditions are
- 19:00perfect, anybody can exist in the perfect situation.
- 19:03But we need to exist when the situation
- 19:06may not be so perfect.
- 19:09And that takes stamina.
- 19:13It takes discipline.
- 19:16Discipline is what's going to get you to
- 19:18get out of bed to do your exercises
- 19:20or to get out of bed early so
- 19:23you can get up early, so you can
- 19:25get a jump start on your day, right?
- 19:27Does it feel great?
- 19:29No.
- 19:30Get out of bed, go have a glass
- 19:32of orange juice, and you're up, and now
- 19:35you feel great.
- 19:35Especially when you go exercise, right?
- 19:37You may not want to exercise right away,
- 19:39but after you exercise, you're like, oh my
- 19:40gosh, this feels so great, right?
- 19:42Number 27, your system should work when you're
- 19:46tired.
- 19:47What do you mean?
- 19:49Well, I mean that it should allow your
- 19:54body to move forward even if you're tired.
- 19:57Because if you're tired, what you do should
- 20:01push you forward.
- 20:02Anybody can follow a complicated routine on a
- 20:05perfect day, as I told you, right?
- 20:06The real test is when your system still
- 20:09helps you when your energy is lower.
- 20:12Make it simple enough so you can survive
- 20:14real life.
- 20:16Real life.
- 20:19You know, when people are learning to do
- 20:21things, they're learning in the most perfect conditions.
- 20:25But in life, not always the perfect way.
- 20:28I'll give an example.
- 20:29When I was younger, I was learning to
- 20:30swim.
- 20:31I love swimming.
- 20:32And I didn't know how to swim very
- 20:34well when I was really young.
- 20:35So I learned how to swim, but I
- 20:37learned how to swim in perfect conditions.
- 20:40Later on, I started swimming in conditions that
- 20:43were not perfect.
- 20:45So for example, perfect conditions are the water
- 20:48temperatures exactly where you want it to be,
- 20:50right?
- 20:52As I got older and I had to
- 20:55do laps for summer camp that I went
- 20:57to, one of the big parts of summer
- 20:59camp was we had to go swimming.
- 21:01That was like a requirement.
- 21:02So you had to jump in.
- 21:05And I remember when I got to the,
- 21:07let's say, later on in the program, not
- 21:11just the first couple of years, I had
- 21:13to not just go in one part of
- 21:15the bay and just, you know, wade around
- 21:18the water.
- 21:18When I got older, I had to jump
- 21:20off the dock, okay?
- 21:22I had to swim out to the float,
- 21:24had to go to shore.
- 21:25So dock, float, shore.
- 21:27I think I had to do...
- 21:30I'm guessing how many they had us do.
- 21:32I'm guessing it was probably...
- 21:37I think it might've been like five or
- 21:40six.
- 21:42In the beginning, it was four.
- 21:44So you had to jump in the water.
- 21:45Sometimes the water was cold as you know
- 21:46what.
- 21:47Swim over to the float, get up there
- 21:51for just a second, dive in again, then
- 21:54swim back to the shore, then run, okay,
- 21:58on the beach, back all the way up
- 22:00to the dock again and keep doing that
- 22:02and not stopping.
- 22:03So the first time I did it, it
- 22:06was like, okay, the water's cold.
- 22:08But you know what?
- 22:09The cold water wasn't gonna get me to
- 22:12get my laps done any sooner.
- 22:14And before I could go to arts and
- 22:16crafts, I had to finish my laps.
- 22:18That was like required.
- 22:19Even if the class was done, I was
- 22:22not permitted to leave the dock in the
- 22:24swimming area until I finished my laps and
- 22:26I could join, you know, everybody else in
- 22:29arts and crafts.
- 22:29Once I finished, even if I was late,
- 22:31and if I was too late, I would
- 22:32have to skip arts and crafts, but I
- 22:34had to do my laps.
- 22:36And I learned that I'm not gonna get
- 22:39out of doing my laps.
- 22:40So why don't I just do it and
- 22:42stop complaining about it, right?
- 22:44So number 28, guys, consistency creates evidence.
- 22:48Every repeated action becomes evidence.
- 22:51You begin proving to yourself that you can
- 22:53show up, you can follow through, you can
- 22:56restart, you can learn and you can continue.
- 22:59So the evidence changes how you see yourself.
- 23:01The first time when I jumped in the
- 23:03water, I was like, oh my gosh, I
- 23:04know how to swim, but do I really
- 23:06wanna swim five laps?
- 23:08Not really.
- 23:11But the, I should say the discipline that
- 23:17was being instilled upon me, because I was
- 23:19not having the discipline at that age.
- 23:20So my counselors were instilling, you're gonna swim,
- 23:24right?
- 23:24It doesn't matter, you're gonna swim.
- 23:26And even if the weather was like not
- 23:28great, as long as it was not lightning
- 23:31or thundering, we were in the water, okay?
- 23:33That was just a given, right?
- 23:35Because a lot of times, oh, it'll feel
- 23:38like jumping in the water, it's cold.
- 23:40Well, talk, you know, you still gotta do
- 23:42your laps.
- 23:44So consistency creates the evidence, okay?
- 23:47That's important.
- 23:49And when you can prove that to yourself,
- 23:52that changes it, right?
- 23:54Number 29, evidence creates confidence.
- 23:59So this is number 29.
- 24:01Real confidence doesn't have to come from telling
- 24:04yourself you're capable.
- 24:07It can come from looking backward and seeing
- 24:08proof.
- 24:09Well, look, I did four laps the other
- 24:11day.
- 24:11I can do a fifth lap, I can
- 24:13do a sixth lap.
- 24:16I kept going, you keep going.
- 24:18You handled difficult days before, right?
- 24:21You completed things.
- 24:22Now you know you can rely on yourself.
- 24:24How many of you guys know I wrote
- 24:25a book?
- 24:26I wrote, Drain the Driven.
- 24:27And the book talks about how to avoid
- 24:30burnout because I went through it and how
- 24:31I broke my 10 and fifth and how
- 24:33I wasn't looking for a pity party.
- 24:36I wasn't looking for people to pat me
- 24:37on the back.
- 24:38I was just looking to get through this
- 24:40and to change my life and learn.
- 24:44And that was the hardest thing to do.
- 24:47But now that I did it, I'm glad
- 24:49that I've done it.
- 24:50When you do things that are hard, the
- 24:52rest of your life, that area will become
- 24:55easier.
- 24:56That's the thing that's important.
- 24:58So evidence creates the confidence, right?
- 25:01And you know you can rely on yourself.
- 25:03When you know you can rely on yourself,
- 25:04that's when it's like, wait a minute, I
- 25:07can do this, right?
- 25:09It's not enough to just say it.
- 25:10Number 30, build habits strong enough to carry
- 25:13you when motivation cannot even come close.
- 25:16Okay, this is where everything comes together, guys.
- 25:18Motivation isn't the enemy.
- 25:20I love motivation too, okay?
- 25:21Motivation can ignite an idea.
- 25:24It can give you energy.
- 25:25It can make you excited about what's possible.
- 25:28But motivation was never designed to carry everything
- 25:31for you.
- 25:32Think about how dangerous it would be if
- 25:34every important area of your life depended entirely
- 25:37on whether you felt inspired that morning.
- 25:40If your heart said, well, gee, you know,
- 25:41I really don't feel like beating this morning,
- 25:43so I'm not gonna beat, like, really?
- 25:45Would you only show up for people when
- 25:47you felt motivated?
- 25:48Would you only honor responsibilities when you were
- 25:51excited?
- 25:52Would you only work toward your future when
- 25:54everything felt easy and simple?
- 25:57Of course not.
- 25:58That's why your next level needs something more
- 26:01dependable.
- 26:02You need systems, you need routines, you need
- 26:06to establish standards, you need discipline.
- 26:09When I was younger, I didn't have discipline,
- 26:11so I was slowly learning about how discipline
- 26:14was being placed on me, and that's something
- 26:17I need to learn how to do later
- 26:19on in life.
- 26:20Most importantly, you need the ability to keep
- 26:22going without requiring every day to feel extraordinary.
- 26:26There are going to be mornings when you
- 26:28wake up ready to take on the world.
- 26:30Use them, right, to your advantage.
- 26:32Take advantage of that energy.
- 26:33But there are also going to be mornings
- 26:35when you wake up tired.
- 26:37There'll be days when something goes wrong.
- 26:39There'll be weeks when life gets busy.
- 26:41There'll be moments when the excitement you had
- 26:44when you started a goal feels, well, very
- 26:47far away.
- 26:49That's when a discovery happens of whether you
- 26:52build a wish or a system.
- 26:55A wish says, I'll do this when I
- 26:57feel ready.
- 26:58Yeah, that's going nowhere.
- 27:00A system says, this is what I'm going
- 27:01to do every single day.
- 27:03And I want you to notice something important,
- 27:05guys.
- 27:06This isn't about becoming rigid.
- 27:08It isn't about pretending you never need rest.
- 27:10It isn't about pushing yourself endlessly until you're
- 27:12exhausted.
- 27:13Discipline also means knowing when to recover.
- 27:15The goal is to stop allowing every temporary
- 27:19emotion to rewrite your long-term direction and
- 27:22give you excuses to procrastinate.
- 27:24If today is difficult, maybe you don't operate
- 27:27at 100%, right?
- 27:28Fine.
- 27:29What's your minimum going to be?
- 27:31What's the action that keeps you connected to
- 27:33the direction you're building?
- 27:34Maybe you normally spend an hour on something,
- 27:36and today you can give it 20 minutes.
- 27:38Maybe the entire project can't be completed today,
- 27:42but maybe you can just do one section.
