[UNKNOWN]: Welcome to comics versus a Lorhound's podcast, Your Guides to the Money Shades of the Sun.
0:23
[UNKNOWN]: I'm Alicia Crypto's Alien Healer.
0:27
[UNKNOWN]: And I'm John, here not only the staff for truth and justice, but also the Supergirlway.
0:32
[UNKNOWN]: I'm crypt and night to the haters.
0:35
[UNKNOWN]: I'm still in Vampireless that mode.
0:37
[UNKNOWN]: I'm like, I have the blood of a Kasha.
0:38
[UNKNOWN]: This is a Kasha.
0:41
[UNKNOWN]: This movie has the blood of a Kasha.
0:43
[UNKNOWN]: Oh my.
0:44
[UNKNOWN]: We are going to talk about Supergirl maybe yeah, we're not going to hate on it.
0:49
[UNKNOWN]: So if you're a fan like feel free to hang out I mean, I have some quibbles.
0:53
[UNKNOWN]: We'll get to our house.
0:54
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, definitely quibbles.
0:55
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but overall I've watched twice now as I said so overall
1:02
[UNKNOWN]: I enjoy it, you know?
1:03
[UNKNOWN]: I enjoy it.
1:05
[UNKNOWN]: But first, let's talk about Comic Con.
1:09
[UNKNOWN]: Let's check in on we're recording this just shortly after Comic Con.
1:14
[UNKNOWN]: Since we cover both Marvel and DC, let's check in on both of their announcements there.
1:21
[UNKNOWN]: So we'll start with that and then we'll go on to Supergirl and when we give
1:25
[UNKNOWN]: the super girl warning will start with your usual spoiler free fresh takes, but then we will go full spoilers.
1:33
[UNKNOWN]: So Jean, what does that include?
1:35
[UNKNOWN]: And by the way, thank you for that your help with the notes this time.
1:39
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, no, oh, got to stretch my intellectual capacity.
1:46
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, exactly.
1:48
[UNKNOWN]: We'll start with our usual Spotify fresh takes, but then we will proceed full-on spoilers from the movie and comic from which the movie is adapted.
1:58
[UNKNOWN]: All DC movies, TV, comic books, everything is on the table as well.
2:05
[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, there's a section at the end too.
2:06
[UNKNOWN]: We'll talk about some more specific direct comparisons with the source material that this is based on.
2:12
[UNKNOWN]: But before we get into that, Jean, OK.
2:16
[UNKNOWN]: So Marvel and DC made their announcements.
2:19
[UNKNOWN]: Let's start with the other one.
2:21
[UNKNOWN]: Let's start with Marvel because
2:24
[UNKNOWN]: something kind of happened that you've been asking for?
2:27
[UNKNOWN]: It looks a little different than what you were specifically asking for.
2:31
[UNKNOWN]: How are you feeling and what is the thing that I'm asking about?
2:34
[UNKNOWN]: All right, so if I go to the trigger, they've not recast the child or where they've rather aged up to sought the child.
2:45
[UNKNOWN]: Well, they're not playing him, so they do.
2:48
[UNKNOWN]: You're a kid.
2:52
[UNKNOWN]: that is not what I was calling for.
2:55
[UNKNOWN]: As you know, I am a two-son hater.
2:58
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, now he's gonna be.
3:01
[UNKNOWN]: But so David Johnson has been tapped to play Tochalya, Tochalya the second.
3:09
[UNKNOWN]: And the new Black Panther III movie that will be dropped in 2028.
3:17
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I got to say, I really like David Johnson.
3:22
[UNKNOWN]: He was not my, you know, what's not of him, but I did not think of him.
3:28
[UNKNOWN]: It was all for me.
3:29
[UNKNOWN]: It was always damn centidress.
3:31
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
3:34
[UNKNOWN]: Johnson is a he's a really good actor man.
3:37
[UNKNOWN]: He's a really good actor and I have to say that I think I was really moved by his performance from the long walk.
3:45
[UNKNOWN]: I know some people may not have been, but I certainly was and I thought this is a great, a great casting and at the end
4:04
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
4:04
[UNKNOWN]: Like there's that's the end all and be all of it all.
4:10
[UNKNOWN]: I just have to trust Kubler's vision and how he sees the road is going to be embodied by Johnson.
4:20
[UNKNOWN]: And I have the full confidence and knowing that this incredible filmmaker is going to continue with this character.
4:33
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I mean, I, again, I also wouldn't have expected it.
4:37
[UNKNOWN]: Also, I mean, part of me thought that I think I actually said there's probably some recording of me back in the day saying like they're going to age up to saw and see.
4:45
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I did say that.
4:46
[UNKNOWN]: You did say that.
4:47
[UNKNOWN]: So I guess I'm not surprised in that part.
4:50
[UNKNOWN]: For completely, although I did think.
4:52
[UNKNOWN]: You know, it's also secret wars as a chance to bring in some of them from another universe who somebody else.
4:56
[UNKNOWN]: So that question does remain how are they going to age him up?
5:00
[UNKNOWN]: Because to some, okay, even if we follow, what is it like 10?
5:04
[UNKNOWN]: No, not even 10 years, like five years of past.
5:06
[UNKNOWN]: So he would be a young teen at this point in time, which obviously David Johnson is not.
5:12
[UNKNOWN]: But I am a big fan.
5:14
[UNKNOWN]: I wouldn't have thought of him for, you know, as you said, for this role per se.
5:21
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, okay, because I love him in the long walk is one of my favorite movies last year.
5:27
[UNKNOWN]: Love, I just have seen him do such a variety of things.
5:29
[UNKNOWN]: I love him in Raelane, which is a romance, you know, Rumbkarmish type before sunrise type movie.
5:36
[UNKNOWN]: Love him in Alien Resurrection.
5:39
[UNKNOWN]: Actually, might be my favorite role.
5:41
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, resurrection, one of my saying, Romulus might be my favorite role of his in terms of seeing
5:51
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
5:52
[UNKNOWN]: I also watched him recently in waste man, which is a British movie set in a prison.
5:59
[UNKNOWN]: It's really devastating.
6:01
[UNKNOWN]: I actually, I have to begrudgingly admit it's quite good.
6:03
[UNKNOWN]: This two central performance is a really good, but it's a tough watch, I'll say.
6:09
[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, he's impressed me so much across the board.
6:13
[UNKNOWN]: I can't wait to see what he does with this.
6:16
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I haven't seen Waste Man yet, but everything else that I've seen by Lane, like you mentioned, Alien Romulus, he's a good actor, you know, a good actor, so congrats to him.
6:33
[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, let's see what the movie will bring.
6:35
[UNKNOWN]: I like the coogler also said that a reason he cast him is because of his good, because he thinks he's a good person, like Chadwick Boseman, I like that, especially after certain
6:50
[UNKNOWN]: Kang, testrophies, I think it's important that that is taken into consideration as well.
6:57
[UNKNOWN]: And not to say that dance in Idris isn't.
6:59
[UNKNOWN]: I do wonder with dance in Idris if now that I'm seeing the promotion for children in bone.
7:05
[UNKNOWN]: All right, yeah, yeah.
7:07
[UNKNOWN]: Is it you, what's there a concern that he would be playing too similar of roles?
7:12
[UNKNOWN]: OK, I thought about that.
7:14
[UNKNOWN]: When we saw the trailer for Children of Blood and Bone,
7:18
[UNKNOWN]: I did think about that like the movies, you know, the characters seem similar, you know, so it will be interesting and also just the timing because children and blood and bone can lead to, you know, a really fantastic universe.
7:39
[UNKNOWN]: So let's see, you know, hopefully it gets to support that, you know, I wanted to, and um,
7:46
[UNKNOWN]: that could also be a part of the calculus, apart from, you know, David Johnson just being a great talent as well.
7:55
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
7:56
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
7:57
[UNKNOWN]: I said, I can't remember who said this in the discord, but like when you first posted the news, it showed David Johnson standing on stage with like a fist against his chest as like a thank you.
8:07
[UNKNOWN]: It's how one responded, don't worry, he has time to learn the other hand to put up the Wakanda next.
8:21
[UNKNOWN]: Um, but yeah, I also got a partial wish granted.
8:24
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, you did.
8:25
[UNKNOWN]: From the Marvels, we got on Ryan Gosling, it's as Ghost Rider and the movie is also scheduled for 2028.
8:35
[UNKNOWN]: this the floor is yours yeah so i mean this is so ghost writers one of my favorite characters for anyone who doesn't know um and i've been saying all along i was like i want all three ghost writers in secret wars i want nick cage back is johnny blaze i want um i'm like don't see
8:58
[UNKNOWN]: I thought it's been thought for a while that Ryan Gosling would be cast as Danny Ketch, which is like the other most prominent one.
9:06
[UNKNOWN]: And I just think, yeah, it makes sense for secret wars as a place to just have some fun scene with that, have the three of them ride together, pass the torch to Ryan Gosling.
9:16
[UNKNOWN]: Because of course, they just announced it, but this has been heavily rumored for, I don't know, years, not my feeling.
9:29
[UNKNOWN]: I'm going to go with Danny Catch.
9:30
[UNKNOWN]: I think so, but yeah, this brings us a step closer to Midnight Suns, which is something I'm very interested in happening.
9:42
[UNKNOWN]: I also just heard, I just saw that who did obsession?
9:49
[UNKNOWN]: The director.
9:52
[UNKNOWN]: maybe in play for a midnight son.
9:55
[UNKNOWN]: No, please, no, not him.
9:56
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, sorry.
9:57
[UNKNOWN]: That's what I heard.
9:57
[UNKNOWN]: That's what I heard.
9:58
[UNKNOWN]: The obsession fans, but that's what I heard.
10:02
[UNKNOWN]: That's what I saw.
10:03
[UNKNOWN]: The missing one, that's what I saw.
10:05
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, I'm sorry to the obsession fans.
10:08
[UNKNOWN]: I'm just, I think Indie Neveretti is wonderful.
10:10
[UNKNOWN]: And I heard that she, I just heard that there was, I mean, this is all like rumors based on that.
10:17
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, this is not rumors.
10:18
[UNKNOWN]: This is rumors.
10:19
[UNKNOWN]: But that she was interested in Mystique.
10:21
[UNKNOWN]: I was like, yeah, that would be great.
10:23
[UNKNOWN]: I think she's great about I do not like his directing or and really dislike his writing.
10:28
[UNKNOWN]: I could maybe, I don't know about Mystique.
10:32
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, no, I could see that.
10:34
[UNKNOWN]: I could see.
10:34
[UNKNOWN]: I can be pride.
10:35
[UNKNOWN]: Oh yeah, for sure.
10:37
[UNKNOWN]: But I think that she's up for the challenge of Mystique.
10:41
[UNKNOWN]: No, she may be.
10:41
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
10:42
[UNKNOWN]: That's...
10:45
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, at the end of the day, just give me the characters.
10:48
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
10:49
[UNKNOWN]: Well, I guess I should say also that the Ghost Rider director is going to be Sean Levy.
10:54
[UNKNOWN]: And apparently, this was like a thing that Ryan Gosling was like, it's got to be him.
10:57
[UNKNOWN]: I think he has some ideas together.
10:59
[UNKNOWN]: It's not who I would pick for this type of movie.
11:04
[UNKNOWN]: It's he's definitely, I mean, people pointed out he did some of the best episodes of Stranger Things
11:14
[UNKNOWN]: I'm not happy with that.
11:16
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I'm I'm more I'm more open to that than, um, what's his face?
11:23
[UNKNOWN]: The obsession, the obsession that it just blanked is, I'm sorry.
11:28
[UNKNOWN]: I just, I'm sorry, I'm a hater of that movie.
11:30
[UNKNOWN]: I know that a lot of people most people seem to love it.
11:34
[UNKNOWN]: Indeed, I've ever had taste great.
11:35
[UNKNOWN]: And the cinematography, there's some good cinematography, too.
11:39
[UNKNOWN]: There was, there was a lot.
11:41
[UNKNOWN]: Speaking of that, we also, um, yeah, there's some trailers.
11:46
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I heard that for the brand new day, despite the brand new day that perhaps they will show the San Diego Comic Con trailer that was shown in room at all age, that will be part of doing trailer package.
12:03
[UNKNOWN]: OK.
12:03
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, the doomsday trailer will be part of this part of that brand new day.
12:07
[UNKNOWN]: So if anyone has seen it, you know, by the time you hear this, if I haven't seen it, just let me know if it's true about it.
12:15
[UNKNOWN]: But I hope you're a spider-man this weekend.
12:17
[UNKNOWN]: I'm going, yeah, this weekend.
12:20
[UNKNOWN]: I call, call.
12:21
[UNKNOWN]: You know, getting out those deadlines in that movie day.
12:23
[UNKNOWN]: And I'm going to see the Odyssey finally, too.
12:25
[UNKNOWN]: Like, oh my God, I can't believe I've seen this yet.
12:28
[UNKNOWN]: So you're just bringing dinner to the theater.
12:32
[UNKNOWN]: Well, yeah, it's going to be my, like, I'm doing a double feature of two long ass films.
12:37
[UNKNOWN]: Nice, nice, nice.
12:39
[UNKNOWN]: No, yeah, in the middle of the afternoon because I deserve it.
12:44
[UNKNOWN]: And also because both of them are, every time I go to look, they are just sold out for a long time in advance.
12:52
[UNKNOWN]: Both of those films are really doing gangbusters at the cinema as an MC released.
12:56
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, all over, all over.
12:59
[UNKNOWN]: Spidey, my, it's gonna bring records.
13:03
[UNKNOWN]: I think they already broke the record for the Thursday viewing
13:10
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, no, I think so.
13:12
[UNKNOWN]: I think I've heard good things thus far.
13:15
[UNKNOWN]: There's been a lot of good.
13:16
[UNKNOWN]: I had to unsubscribe from the Spider-Man brand new day chat on our discord because like I'm like, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah,
13:37
[UNKNOWN]: Um, then we got news that one demand season two, cancel this was yesterday.
13:42
[UNKNOWN]: This is not coming out of Comic Con, this was yesterday, um, FIDY has done it again.
13:50
[UNKNOWN]: Um, so we will not be seeing Simon Williams return to our screens.
13:58
[UNKNOWN]: Um, and I hopefully we will see him come back.
14:01
[UNKNOWN]: But I wanted this.
14:02
[UNKNOWN]: I wanted another.
14:07
[UNKNOWN]: the the the pair of them, the writing, you know, the format.
14:12
[UNKNOWN]: I really, I think a bunch of us on the network are going to have one demand in our top 10 this year.
14:18
[UNKNOWN]: I know I am.
14:19
[UNKNOWN]: It's about five.
14:22
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I mean, I think that, um, it's not five.
14:28
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I think that it's it's a lot of people.
14:31
[UNKNOWN]: I've seen nothing but people being sad about it.
14:34
[UNKNOWN]: So it's really is baffling to me.
14:35
[UNKNOWN]: I have to guess that it has to do with something about fitting with the whole
14:42
[UNKNOWN]: secret wars of it all or something, um, I, I don't know, or and or that, um, it was just like two tough to get these two in demand actors for the price point they wanted or something like that.
14:56
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
14:57
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
14:59
[UNKNOWN]: So since we recorded showrunner Andrew Guest has come out and clarified some things and yeah, just been quite direct about the entire situation.
15:11
[UNKNOWN]: So it's not his fault.
15:13
[UNKNOWN]: It's not the actor's fault.
15:15
[UNKNOWN]: It's not even five years fault.
15:16
[UNKNOWN]: It comes down to the new management at Disney.
15:19
[UNKNOWN]: But since he shared this on social media, let's hear it in his own
15:28
[UNKNOWN]: I just want to say I've been listening, I appreciate you all, I feel how you all feel and I just want to clear up what I can here.
15:37
[UNKNOWN]: This is not a marketing stunt, there is no movie in the works and destined schedule and no one schedule was an issue.
15:45
[UNKNOWN]: Ya ya, destined sir Ben and I.
15:48
[UNKNOWN]: all loved making this show, all felt passionately about continuing to do it and we're eager to contracts were signed, schedules were cleared.
15:59
[UNKNOWN]: The writers were supposed to start this month.
16:02
[UNKNOWN]: The production was supposed to begin early next year and there was a decision made internally between Disney and Marvel.
16:12
[UNKNOWN]: that this didn't make sense for them, even though a few months ago it did.
16:17
[UNKNOWN]: And that's essentially all I really know, numbers aren't really shared with me.
16:23
[UNKNOWN]: And even though the writers room hadn't started, I had written the first episode of Season 2 and we had an outline for where the season would go and everyone felt really good about it.
16:32
[UNKNOWN]: It was going to be a really incredible season that hopefully surpassed Season 1.
16:40
[UNKNOWN]: I appreciate everybody getting out there and letting your voices be heard about how you feel about this and I think there's important conversations being had online about the kind of stories that we're prioritizing and the kind of shows platforms want to make.
16:59
[UNKNOWN]: I hope people are listening.
17:01
[UNKNOWN]: And I also hope that Emmy voters are thinking about, yeah, yeah, how much he deserves an Emmy for the incredible work he did on the show.
17:15
[UNKNOWN]: I just, this is baffling to me.
17:17
[UNKNOWN]: This is like the best received film.
17:21
[UNKNOWN]: And I hope this isn't a signal.
17:23
[UNKNOWN]: the best received series in a long time and I hope this isn't a signal that they're just going to pure formula.
17:30
[UNKNOWN]: That's my, that's been my worry with, especially in the film side of things, and I don't, and the TV side was more where they could play and do more interesting things like this.
17:39
[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, I'm more interested in my, after vision quest, I'm worried about what's going to come next on the TV side.
17:50
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I'm right there with you.
17:55
[UNKNOWN]: It really, you know, the show itself was delayed, was done and they can't push in it back.
18:03
[UNKNOWN]: Almost as if they didn't want to release it.
18:06
[UNKNOWN]: And then we remember we talked about it, like, the way that they rolled it out in the very beginning was kind of suspect, but it was just,
18:23
[UNKNOWN]: But they had, I thought they had some good marketing.
18:26
[UNKNOWN]: They did.
18:26
[UNKNOWN]: Non-traditional for Marvel.
18:28
[UNKNOWN]: I think it was because of Yada.
18:30
[UNKNOWN]: You know what I'm saying?
18:30
[UNKNOWN]: I think his gravitas in the role when he was on the red carpet.
18:34
[UNKNOWN]: But I mean, yeah, yeah.
18:35
[UNKNOWN]: It meant something.
18:36
[UNKNOWN]: It felt like...
18:38
[UNKNOWN]: When he was doing the red carpet, in here, certain stuff that was one of the first things.
18:42
[UNKNOWN]: So, yeah.
18:43
[UNKNOWN]: So, it just felt like, wow, okay, this might be something special.
18:46
[UNKNOWN]: And it turned out to be something special.
18:48
[UNKNOWN]: But given that they seemingly,
18:52
[UNKNOWN]: kept waiting to release it, didn't bode well and I just really feel like and hopefully I'm wrong, you know, but I just really feel that this is about getting back to the Russo
19:22
[UNKNOWN]: This is what they are comfortable with.
19:25
[UNKNOWN]: There's been a large, there was a large archive from particularly terrible people about wanting to see that return.
19:36
[UNKNOWN]: And I feel like that's what they're leaning into.
19:38
[UNKNOWN]: And it just doesn't vote well, I think, for diverse storytelling.
19:45
[UNKNOWN]: not just diverse storytelling as far as the type of stories that are told, but also the characters that are being shown.
19:57
[UNKNOWN]: So I hope I'm wrong, but that's just my good feeling right now.
20:02
[UNKNOWN]: No, I'm worried about that in general with, and this is one of the reasons why, you know, obviously, we're going to be talking in a moment about DC for the rest of this, and this is one of the things that I'm most worried about, and I'm so glad that there's been a pause put on the skydance purchase of the brothers, because I think, yeah, there are pressures to limit diverse storytelling for sure right now.
20:32
[UNKNOWN]: and I think Disney is subject to them.
20:36
[UNKNOWN]: And then today, also this is not from Comic Con, we get, you know, Musharera Ali just completely torpedoed, sending a torpedo shot into Marvel directly.
20:53
[UNKNOWN]: You know, just saying point blank, it was under contract.
20:57
[UNKNOWN]: The company has billions of dollars, if they wanted to make a blade film, they could have made a blade film, they didn't make a blade film.
21:06
[UNKNOWN]: So, you know, with five years mere culpa about, oh, I feel terrible about this, and you know, we just couldn't get it right.
21:16
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, let's come on.
21:19
[UNKNOWN]: No, that's, I mean, it's also because they're trying to have too much control.
21:22
[UNKNOWN]: And I think that, you know, there should be Connective tissue and that was a problem with rolling out phases four and five to quickly into simultaneously.
21:31
[UNKNOWN]: Like I love both wand of vision and I actually do really like Dr.
21:36
[UNKNOWN]: Strange in the multiverse of madness, but having them made at the same time meant that they was such
21:42
[UNKNOWN]: and incongerous connection with one-to-side of things, who's one of my favorite characters.
21:47
[UNKNOWN]: I'm like, I love her and both, but it just didn't, like, the... Yeah.
21:51
[UNKNOWN]: And so, I do think it's a good idea for them to slow down with releases in general.
21:56
[UNKNOWN]: You know what I'm just thinking, by the way, so you're talking about Blade, and we were talking about, I was saying, I want Midnight, Suns, and obviously, one of my favorite overall Marvel things talking about this niche thing is where Wolf by Knight.
22:07
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
22:08
[UNKNOWN]: So famous composer who directed that special presentation, Michael Giacchino was saying recently someone asked him about it and he was like, well, you know, there's been conversations.
22:19
[UNKNOWN]: We need people to make noise.
22:21
[UNKNOWN]: So this is me making noise, but also I want him to direct midnight sons.
22:28
[UNKNOWN]: That's who I want to direct midnight sons.
22:30
[UNKNOWN]: I think that would be a great choice actually.
22:33
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
22:34
[UNKNOWN]: I think he would be a great choice.
22:35
[UNKNOWN]: Nailed.
22:37
[UNKNOWN]: We're nailed that well off in like, and he nailed that.
22:39
[UNKNOWN]: And I'm not saying midnight suns needs to be, you know, the classic universe or style, whatever.
22:46
[UNKNOWN]: But it was, he just understands the genre.
22:51
[UNKNOWN]: He understands pacing.
22:53
[UNKNOWN]: You know, it's, I think composers also
22:56
[UNKNOWN]: you have to understand these things in order to tell the story through the music of a film as well.
23:01
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
23:02
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
23:02
[UNKNOWN]: So that's the Marvel side of things.
23:05
[UNKNOWN]: That's the Marvel side of things.
23:06
[UNKNOWN]: OK.
23:06
[UNKNOWN]: But we are here today to talk DC.
23:09
[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
23:10
[UNKNOWN]: What's going on in the DC side of things?
23:12
[UNKNOWN]: Well, DC didn't really have a presence at STCC 26.
23:19
[UNKNOWN]: They didn't showcase anything, which was weird.
23:24
[UNKNOWN]: But on the before, right before Comic Con, they dropped two trailers.
23:31
[UNKNOWN]: One for lanterns.
23:33
[UNKNOWN]: The show lanterns that will be on HBO, HBO Max, coming in August, which is true.
23:39
[UNKNOWN]: So we're going to be covering it.
23:41
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, we will, and the trailer was amazing.
23:47
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, even like we've got people in the discord saying I don't even like superheroes stuff, but I'll be watching this show.
23:55
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's like a
23:57
[UNKNOWN]: sci-fi noir, which, yes, it's like a detective Western, all of the above.
24:04
[UNKNOWN]: And we were under the score talking about Lindorf being involved and just, you know, I again have to trust visions of certain people, given what he did with Watchman.
24:19
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
24:20
[UNKNOWN]: I kind of trust division.
24:22
[UNKNOWN]: I got to go with it until proven wrong.
24:25
[UNKNOWN]: You know, I have to be optimistic and joyfully optimistic about the prospects for this show because of the people involved in it.
24:33
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I think the proof is in the pudding until far we've gotten a taste with the trailer and
24:41
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that if that's indicative of what we're getting and it sounds like it is sounds like people who've seen more say it is that good Yeah, that's could be Do you think and would you want this to potentially turn into a multi-season thing?
24:59
[UNKNOWN]: Oh my, oh boy Yeah, I would but with a with different cast of characters
25:08
[UNKNOWN]: Like, I wouldn't, I wouldn't need John Stewart again.
25:13
[UNKNOWN]: No.
25:15
[UNKNOWN]: You could give me Jessica Cruz.
25:19
[UNKNOWN]: You're like an anthology sort of thing.
25:21
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, of green lanterns.
25:23
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
25:25
[UNKNOWN]: So, there are, don't get me wrong.
25:30
[UNKNOWN]: John Stewart is one of my favorite characters and comics period.
25:38
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and so who do you want to set up for people who aren't familiar, who are the big names that we saw in the trailer?
25:48
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so, um, semester old, one of how Jordan's,
25:56
[UNKNOWN]: not one of the chief Nemesis of Al Jordan and strikes fear and all green lanterns.
26:05
[UNKNOWN]: We saw the man hunters, please don't be confused, this is not Martian man hunters.
26:14
[UNKNOWN]: Man hunters are totally different.
26:17
[UNKNOWN]: We'll get into it as the show, you know, comes, but these are not Martian man hunters.
26:23
[UNKNOWN]: This is not an introduction for the Martian man hunter.
26:28
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, okay.
26:29
[UNKNOWN]: Good to know.
26:30
[UNKNOWN]: Man hunters are totally separate from that.
26:34
[UNKNOWN]: They are a big part of the Greenland during mythology and lore.
26:39
[UNKNOWN]: They were the first attempt at this global police, at this cosmic police force, at the Guardians tried.
26:49
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, well, there we go.
26:52
[UNKNOWN]: We got Guy Gardner.
26:53
[UNKNOWN]: So we do agree with him.
26:55
[UNKNOWN]: We'll cut his back.
26:58
[UNKNOWN]: It's fresh from his Superman, you know, exposure and shenanigans, and he's going to be popping up in this show as well.
27:07
[UNKNOWN]: So this looks like it's going to be a lot of fun, a lot of fun.
27:12
[UNKNOWN]: We got some red lantern business, possibly happening as well.
27:17
[UNKNOWN]: And what's a red lantern?
27:19
[UNKNOWN]: Because it's a green lantern core, right?
27:25
[UNKNOWN]: So the GreenLatin Core is green, every color and the DC universe mythology represents some sort of cosmic function.
27:36
[UNKNOWN]: Green, the wielders of the green hope.
27:40
[UNKNOWN]: So GreenLatin's are hope, yellow, fear, red, anger.
27:47
[UNKNOWN]: So these are the emotional spectrum
27:55
[UNKNOWN]: So we've seen, we know we've seen two colors.
27:58
[UNKNOWN]: We've seen the red and the green.
28:00
[UNKNOWN]: And with Sinestro showing up, I can only imagine that we'll see some sort of yellow lantern cords as well.
28:07
[UNKNOWN]: So they each have their own core?
28:09
[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
28:10
[UNKNOWN]: OK. Each emotional spectrum has their own core.
28:15
[UNKNOWN]: OK, but the hope, it's the hero.
28:17
[UNKNOWN]: Hope is set to be the most powerful of them all.
28:22
[UNKNOWN]: OK.
28:25
[UNKNOWN]: I hope so for humanity which is why I'm how this is thought of yes, why how this thought of as possibly the greatest Greenland in ever.
28:36
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
28:36
[UNKNOWN]: So if it's capacity to believe, it's capacity to hope.
28:40
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, but we're getting I mean it seems like I said noir aspects.
28:45
[UNKNOWN]: It seems like
28:55
[UNKNOWN]: Um, it's very true detective type of feel, if anyone has watched true detective, um, that's the type of feel that I get like this older, you know, more seasoned, um, veteran cop and the young upstart and what does that mean for not only the cases that they're trying
29:24
[UNKNOWN]: and how can they possibly come together?
29:27
[UNKNOWN]: I think this is a great pairing, actually.
29:30
[UNKNOWN]: I love the idea of an older how trying to teach a younger John how to be a green lantern because these are not even possibly, these are the two greatest human lanterns ever.
29:48
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
29:49
[UNKNOWN]: So, it's interesting.
29:50
[UNKNOWN]: While I'm looking forward to, I think David's going to, he's agreed, he's actually excited about the trailer too once he saw it, and since I'm wrapping up Silo, I think he's going to be taking lead on production for the first few episodes, although I'll take part in some way.
30:07
[UNKNOWN]: We'll take it out.
30:08
[UNKNOWN]: And then yeah, we're going to be doing weekly coverage of that one for sure, and as you pointed out, the week after that ends, vision quest starts.
30:15
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's like boom, boom, boom, we have so much coming up towards, you know, the end of the summer and also the end of the year and fall in early winter is going to be a time.
30:30
[UNKNOWN]: Because we also got another trailer at Comic Con for DC.
30:33
[UNKNOWN]: We got, um, we got clay face, which is your side of this.
30:37
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, proper horror, proper body horror.
30:40
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
30:41
[UNKNOWN]: What do you think of it?
30:42
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, this is up my alley for sure.
30:44
[UNKNOWN]: No, I really enjoyed the trailer.
30:46
[UNKNOWN]: I thought I wasn't, um, I told you this before.
30:51
[UNKNOWN]: This would not have been my choice.
30:54
[UNKNOWN]: It takes the movie.
30:57
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but this looks really interesting.
31:00
[UNKNOWN]: Very different version of the character than we've seen before.
31:03
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, it looks really interesting.
31:06
[UNKNOWN]: And it looks like it could be downright a little bit scary.
31:10
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, well, so screenplay Mike Flanagan was sort of like the originator pusher of the idea, but then I guess Hosai Namini took over because Mike Flanagan's, I don't know, he's names on everything, he's so busy, but I am a Flan a fan, so, um,
31:29
[UNKNOWN]: But I mean, the man is a master of horror.
31:31
[UNKNOWN]: So I, yeah, that already got me excited and just everything else that I hear has me excited.
31:37
[UNKNOWN]: It's produced by Matt Reeves, but I thought it was, I think it's DCU, but it does feel like it fits in the Batman universe to me.
31:47
[UNKNOWN]: Well, they said this is the character from creature commandos.
31:51
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
31:52
[UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
31:52
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
31:53
[UNKNOWN]: So it's not in the past.
31:54
[UNKNOWN]: It's not in the Reeves universe.
31:56
[UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
31:57
[UNKNOWN]: Exactly.
31:57
[UNKNOWN]: Which they keep telling us is not part of the DCU.
32:00
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
32:01
[UNKNOWN]: What is it?
32:02
[UNKNOWN]: At this point to stop confusing us.
32:06
[UNKNOWN]: It should be together.
32:11
[UNKNOWN]: But anyway, we'll definitely obviously be covering that when it comes out in October.
32:17
[UNKNOWN]: But that's not what we came here today, so to talk about today.
32:20
[UNKNOWN]: So let's take a quick break now and when we come back, it's full speed ahead with Supergirl, but we will start with a spoiler free discussion of our fresh takes and some production information.
32:32
[UNKNOWN]: All right, cool.
32:33
[UNKNOWN]: Be right back.
32:43
[UNKNOWN]: So do you want to set up this film for us?
32:46
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, absolutely.
32:47
[UNKNOWN]: So this is the second film in the DCU after Superman in 2025.
32:52
[UNKNOWN]: It's the fourth entry overall, which includes creature commando's and peacemaker.
32:59
[UNKNOWN]: It ties in with Superman, but the main focus is on Cara, aka Supergirl, but not much else that we have already seen is in this movie.
33:09
[UNKNOWN]: There's no creature commando.
33:10
[UNKNOWN]: There are no peacemakers.
33:12
[UNKNOWN]: She's off planet.
33:13
[UNKNOWN]: She's doing anything.
33:15
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, um, the director is Craig Glippsy.
33:19
[UNKNOWN]: Gillespie, I think it is.
33:20
[UNKNOWN]: Gillespie, Gillespie.
33:22
[UNKNOWN]: Greg Gillespie, who hasn't really done a big budget summer hero type of movie before.
33:28
[UNKNOWN]: But he's done Lois in the real girl, which one is you know?
33:32
[UNKNOWN]: And I thought it was great.
33:33
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I love it.
33:34
[UNKNOWN]: Who's a good movie?
33:35
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
33:36
[UNKNOWN]: No, no, no.
33:38
[UNKNOWN]: No, I mean, I really like, he hasn't done a super hero movie before, but I really like all of his other movies.
33:45
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, like Itonia, yeah.
33:47
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
33:48
[UNKNOWN]: Is it?
33:48
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, Frank Knight.
33:50
[UNKNOWN]: the finest hours.
33:52
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
33:53
[UNKNOWN]: Um, so yeah, he's a pretty seasoned guy.
33:57
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
33:57
[UNKNOWN]: Go say that.
33:58
[UNKNOWN]: I'm sure he learned a lot about this type of production now.
34:04
[UNKNOWN]: Um, and the writer, the writer's name is Anna.
34:08
[UNKNOWN]: No Gira, I think no Gira, no Gira.
34:11
[UNKNOWN]: I'm gonna let you say it.
34:14
[UNKNOWN]: First, this is the first feature of their first feature as a writer and interestingly enough, she is also going to be writing the DCU Wonder Woman movies.
34:28
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I know Anna, I know Gira, I'm Gira, I think it's a Brazilian last name I assume, but anyway, I know her from as an actress that she's been in a lot of things, I know I know she was in the Michael J.
34:43
[UNKNOWN]: Fox show for a long time, but I know her personally first and foremost is Penny in vampire diaries.
34:50
[UNKNOWN]: been yeah so as you said this is our first time writing and we'll talk about it but for me my biggest quibbles with the script so I am a little worried about Wonder Woman we just think it's also like I know a lot of people rave about the first Wonder Woman movie from the DCEU and I think the first half of that was great and I hate the second half of that movie
35:17
[UNKNOWN]: especially the final third.
35:21
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I said, yeah, yeah, yeah, that whole fight, you know, you know, man's land.
35:25
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, guys, that was great.
35:26
[UNKNOWN]: Like, what are we, yeah, it's like setting up such interesting things when they're in theme of Skira.
35:31
[UNKNOWN]: So I'm really having high hopes that they can
35:36
[UNKNOWN]: give me a Wonder Woman on more excited about because it's not a character that I've loved growing up because she often seemed to me, even though I love female superheroes, sometimes she seemed to me more like a character for men to appreciate them.
35:51
[UNKNOWN]: Interesting.
35:52
[UNKNOWN]: Then someone I felt represented me in the way that she rated and it's difficult to say that we're like storm or, you know, my other favorites and it's difficult to say what I think the difference is.
36:04
[UNKNOWN]: Hmm, but I just, yeah, I wouldn't have to for you to think about that and let me know because I've always seen her seeing Wonder Woman, the character in the comic books has always been, I asked kicking Wonder.
36:17
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, she's asked kicking.
36:18
[UNKNOWN]: Not for sure, she's asked kicking.
36:20
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and not really, I think, I don't know.
36:26
[UNKNOWN]: I haven't,
36:29
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, my obviously my comic book on the DC side in particular my comic book exposure is much less than yours.
36:37
[UNKNOWN]: So I have read some Wonder Woman comics, but I have to say I've mostly read like older ones because I wanted to see her origins and that might not be the best.
36:56
[UNKNOWN]: I like to read all comments.
36:57
[UNKNOWN]: I know, I saw a lot, but we got to know what we get in it.
37:01
[UNKNOWN]: I know, I know, what we opened them pages.
37:04
[UNKNOWN]: And I know, I should do something like, because you were really into, what was the new brand of comics?
37:10
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, absolutely.
37:11
[UNKNOWN]: That's the universe, that these new launch.
37:14
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, the Wonder Woman is my favorite out of those.
37:17
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I remember reading it up, yeah.
37:20
[UNKNOWN]: Wonder Woman is my favorite one.
37:22
[UNKNOWN]: Because it leans heavily into, you know, mythology,
37:26
[UNKNOWN]: Right, and away from it's just a great comment.
37:29
[UNKNOWN]: It's just a great.
37:30
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's just a great.
37:32
[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, so I'm hoping for the best for when I'm going.
37:34
[UNKNOWN]: But this one we have read the comic the series the graphic collected as a graphic novel.
37:39
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, this is based on.
37:40
[UNKNOWN]: So what is this based on this is based on Tom King's super girl woman of tomorrow.
37:50
[UNKNOWN]: It's one of the best stories of this past, I don't know, when was it in 21?
37:59
[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, it's one of the best stories that since the pandemic, quite honestly.
38:06
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, but it's also because I grew up, Supergirl was a favorite of mine growing up.
38:10
[UNKNOWN]: I think just because of the 1984 movie, which I will be no slander about.
38:18
[UNKNOWN]: And you remind me often.
38:20
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
38:22
[UNKNOWN]: And so I do have some more exposure to supergirls sought out some more like supergirl comics and things like that.
38:30
[UNKNOWN]: And I don't think I don't we'll get into when we get into our fresh takes especially, but I like a refer around the edges supergirl.
38:40
[UNKNOWN]: You know, I don't like the early comics for very like Clark Kent copy and paste, but put a skirt on and I, you know, if she, I like, I like character stories and I like how character when character stories explore how someone's a set of experiences changes their outlook on the world, basically.
39:04
[UNKNOWN]: And woman of tomorrow is kind of, as we see in this film as well, is kind of all about that.
39:11
[UNKNOWN]: And shout out to Bill Kiss, Evely, you know, Drew, on the comic books, which was... What is the most beautiful comic books ever?
39:22
[UNKNOWN]: Illustrated books that you will ever find, whether you collect them individually, or you get the
39:34
[UNKNOWN]: Um, this was filmed at the one of the studios in Leesden in the UK and also some locations in Scotland, which I wasn't aware of.
39:43
[UNKNOWN]: I didn't know that.
39:45
[UNKNOWN]: Um, I did because when I watched it, um, yeah, I immediately had to look up because there were some beautiful landscapes.
39:51
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, and I didn't know that it was the UK as I owe.
39:56
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, Scotland specifically.
39:58
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah.
40:00
[UNKNOWN]: I had a budget of between 170 and 185,000, a hundred and then you five million.
40:06
[UNKNOWN]: Opened with estimated 37.1 million domestically.
40:11
[UNKNOWN]: And the total box office so far...
40:15
[UNKNOWN]: I think it was 124, 124.6 million.
40:20
[UNKNOWN]: And now we we're releasing this episode now for two reasons.
40:25
[UNKNOWN]: One is just because it's it's been too crazy with everything you see our feet, you know, help in the event, but also because it just released on on video on demand starting on the 28th.
40:39
[UNKNOWN]: So it's now available to watch at home digitally.
40:46
[UNKNOWN]: So the ratings, the ratings, what do we have here?
40:50
[UNKNOWN]: Rotten Tomatoes, 53% Critics, and 74% from the fans.
40:56
[UNKNOWN]: I think it's a meme.
40:59
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
41:00
[UNKNOWN]: And then we have the meta-critic ratings was 50 from the critics in a 4.8, from the fans.
41:14
[UNKNOWN]: and letterbox had it at a three point and also letterbox a three point one is a solid is great isn't yes not bad it's not awesome but it's I would say in a letterbox terms a three point know is considered like a dead average movie okay although I'll give what I think a dead average movie is a three a 2.5
41:37
[UNKNOWN]: So this is like, yeah, this has had enough people who loved it.
41:41
[UNKNOWN]: It's not like hated upon.
41:43
[UNKNOWN]: It's not, yeah, if it's below a three, that's when it starts to be like, ah, right.
41:49
[UNKNOWN]: And finally, we have a peculiar rating, which for those who are unaquated with it, this is for our resident professor of all things, Tolkien, Marilyn, who is on Laura Hound,
42:06
[UNKNOWN]: Voice everywhere, she is awesome, but she is adverse to violence.
42:13
[UNKNOWN]: And I can't say that I don't respect it because I do.
42:17
[UNKNOWN]: So we have a rating where that she should watch films or not.
42:21
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I need to.
42:23
[UNKNOWN]: Based on the violence.
42:24
[UNKNOWN]: It's about emotional violence, too, yeah.
42:27
[UNKNOWN]: Emotional physical violence, war, all of that stuff.
42:30
[UNKNOWN]: So on our peculiar rating, this scores a true,
42:36
[UNKNOWN]: which would mean Marilyn, I think no.
42:41
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I would say to maybe for her, but I don't think there's some themes in there that I don't think she would appreciate, that I don't necessarily, that's not my favorite part of it.
42:51
[UNKNOWN]: I didn't appreciate those things, I think.
42:54
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but that's what we have.
42:56
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but then there's other themes that I do appreciate at the film I'll say.
43:00
[UNKNOWN]: So so what do you think of the movie overall?
43:04
[UNKNOWN]: We're keeping it still spoiler free.
43:05
[UNKNOWN]: Don't worry listeners.
43:07
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, Millie Alcock and Eve Riddly, they were both wonderful.
43:12
[UNKNOWN]: Millie Alcock is Supergirl.
43:15
[UNKNOWN]: Eve Riddly is Rufi, they're the main protagonists of the story.
43:21
[UNKNOWN]: And I think they acted the hell out of these roles.
43:26
[UNKNOWN]: I really like how they showed why Kara and Colelle.
43:31
[UNKNOWN]: Colelle is Clark Kent, but why they are different.
43:35
[UNKNOWN]: because they were not raised the same way to say the least.
43:42
[UNKNOWN]: So I enjoyed watching why we don't have this, you know.
43:50
[UNKNOWN]: What did you turn the movie last last year?
43:54
[UNKNOWN]: The Superman movie, Hope Punk?
43:55
[UNKNOWN]: Uh-huh.
43:56
[UNKNOWN]: That's what you turned it?
43:57
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
43:58
[UNKNOWN]: And I would say this is not Hope Punk.
44:01
[UNKNOWN]: I would say by the end it is, but it's also because, like, by the end, well, I guess I shouldn't say.
44:06
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I can't say that now.
44:07
[UNKNOWN]: I think the visuals were awesome.
44:11
[UNKNOWN]: There were some amazing shots in this really, really well done, fight choreography and, yeah, just really nice.
44:21
[UNKNOWN]: I do like, um, Klan, Klan, excuse me, of the yellow hills as a villain, and I know a lot of people did it.
44:30
[UNKNOWN]: But I will say that I, just, I'm okay with the bad guy not being a universe-level threat.
44:40
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
44:40
[UNKNOWN]: I'm cool with that.
44:43
[UNKNOWN]: Were there some things that I probably would have liked to see a little bit more choreo to the comic book a little bit, but overall, he was fine as a villain.
44:50
[UNKNOWN]: I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I
44:58
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it was, yeah, he was fine, he was fine.
45:05
[UNKNOWN]: I loved Lobo, I wish they had more of Lobo in the film.
45:09
[UNKNOWN]: That was one of the things that, you know, I lamented upon leaving the theater was needed more Lobo.
45:18
[UNKNOWN]: And I didn't think that it felt particularly close to two hours in life.
45:28
[UNKNOWN]: They feel that way to me.
45:30
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I think I often feel this way.
45:33
[UNKNOWN]: If I'll faster on a rewatch, not good.
45:38
[UNKNOWN]: But I think it's also because I don't know.
45:41
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, in the first time I got lost in the sauce.
45:44
[UNKNOWN]: So then it seems to, I don't know.
45:49
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know where it's going and stuff.
45:51
[UNKNOWN]: So it always feels longer to me.
45:52
[UNKNOWN]: But then in a rewatch, it's bad bye.
45:56
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so that's what happened.
45:57
[UNKNOWN]: How about you?
45:58
[UNKNOWN]: What did you think?
46:00
[UNKNOWN]: Um, I, yeah, overall, I would say that I enjoyed it.
46:03
[UNKNOWN]: It has not replaced the 1984 film in my heart.
46:07
[UNKNOWN]: Can anything replace the 1984 film?
46:10
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, theoretically.
46:12
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but no.
46:14
[UNKNOWN]: Maybe like I want to say like a girl.
46:15
[UNKNOWN]: We're super girl and maybe.
46:17
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
46:18
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
46:19
[UNKNOWN]: Um, but I do, I do hope that it will connect with because the 1984 film is a scoryated by people as well, and it was considered a bomb and blah, blah, blah, blah, even though like I had no ideas, child at the time.
46:34
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
46:35
[UNKNOWN]: It was the same as Shira.
46:36
[UNKNOWN]: I was like so into it and I had no idea that it was considered like that I don't know, not cool or whatever for men.
46:46
[UNKNOWN]: And so I hope that this film will connect with in the same way with girls today.
46:51
[UNKNOWN]: I do worry about those certain themes that we mentioned, which I guess we really should say in a content morning style, just that it deals with themes of sex trafficking basically, so.
47:02
[UNKNOWN]: That is the one thing that I worry about too young of an audience in the same way that the Helen Slater film connected with me at a young age.
47:07
[UNKNOWN]: But anyway, but I do, I love Millie Alcock as Supergirl.
47:10
[UNKNOWN]: I think that she is perfect as particularly this version of Supergirl from the woman of tomorrow comics that yeah, I also really like sea also.
47:22
[UNKNOWN]: The my adventurers with Superman also has a similar take on Supergirl the animated series that I'm still need to start season three on But I'm not gonna see you on the start season three.
47:32
[UNKNOWN]: I have I like I have to catch up.
47:34
[UNKNOWN]: I have to catch up I have to catch up.
47:37
[UNKNOWN]: I haven't been able to watch anything that isn't for like writing or podcasting
47:44
[UNKNOWN]: But now that certain things are winding up then now there's gonna be more time I'm gonna catch up on on that for sure.
47:49
[UNKNOWN]: That's one that the top ones on my list because I love that version I love that version of super girl.
47:53
[UNKNOWN]: I love that version of the story overall But yeah, I like like I was saying before I like that super girl has a different history from Clark and And I want to see that play out differently.
48:03
[UNKNOWN]: I love this line in the film Where Ruthy is asking about him and she says to Ruthy he sees the good and people.
48:10
[UNKNOWN]: I see the truth
48:12
[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, it's a bit cynical, but it's a good characterization in that line.
48:19
[UNKNOWN]: Overall, I think the casting is great.
48:21
[UNKNOWN]: They could, I do think they underused Lobo.
48:25
[UNKNOWN]: As far as Crem, I think that I love his design.
48:30
[UNKNOWN]: They decide to go with Viking influence design.
48:33
[UNKNOWN]: And you can really see that.
48:34
[UNKNOWN]: And the piercings and stuff, I think it looks cool.
48:38
[UNKNOWN]: I do wish the character personally had more dimension, or I don't know, it was like his consistent trait was just like being a bad dude.
48:50
[UNKNOWN]: Sometimes that's all there is to you.
48:52
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.
48:54
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, sometimes you, yes.
48:57
[UNKNOWN]: And it's just that too, my, my, I really only have one problem with the film, and I, but I hate to say that it's, it's the writing, which it's almost important for me.
49:06
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, um, and it's just,
49:09
[UNKNOWN]: It's the scripting, there's some lines that I just really love of bringing up at least one more later, but then there's some that are really like feel like, you know, a first screen play.
49:26
[UNKNOWN]: And it is, it is, it is, it is.
49:31
[UNKNOWN]: And I don't know.
49:32
[UNKNOWN]: So I hope with Wonder Woman, maybe some of those,
49:37
[UNKNOWN]: will be smoothed out or shaken off.
49:39
[UNKNOWN]: There's just some really, some tropey things.
49:41
[UNKNOWN]: And I think there was also a lot of people are commenting this weird things going on with the editing that can make that feel weird or too.
49:48
[UNKNOWN]: But it said, yeah, some of the lines that I was like, ah, but
49:53
[UNKNOWN]: I love to the comic references.
49:55
[UNKNOWN]: I went in people were saying like oh they're bashing on the comic and stuff which you know I went and looked up the interviews and know they're not she read the comic and You can see that in the script and the director Craig Gillespie Gillespie anyway
50:14
[UNKNOWN]: Um, he made some comments about like, you know, taking from visual scenes, and I think people would just kind of ran with that too far.
50:21
[UNKNOWN]: But when I watch this movie, it absolutely more than most comic book movies feels like an adaptation of the source.
50:28
[UNKNOWN]: They did change a lot of things.
50:29
[UNKNOWN]: We'll talk about those things.
50:31
[UNKNOWN]: But it does feel like they are telling the story in the comic book, just with some changes.
50:36
[UNKNOWN]: but not nearly as many changes as, say, like, silo or interview the vampire and I love those things.
50:42
[UNKNOWN]: So, you know, I don't reject something just because it makes changes.
50:47
[UNKNOWN]: And I think some of the changes they made here are really interesting and what we'll get into it.
50:52
[UNKNOWN]: I especially liked how they handled the immigrant experience aspects of the story.
50:59
[UNKNOWN]: as the treating Cara, as someone who's come to a strange land where she doesn't speak the language and has trauma in her past and the impact of all that.
51:12
[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, I think that that for me on the story side of things was the strongest elements on the writing side of things, I should say.
51:21
[UNKNOWN]: I was blown away by the alien designs.
51:23
[UNKNOWN]: Now I know they borrowed at least one unused Star Wars design.
51:27
[UNKNOWN]: People immediately caught it and called it out because it's from a cut scene in the last Jedi.
51:34
[UNKNOWN]: So I wonder if they, and I don't mind if they did this at all.
51:38
[UNKNOWN]: If they like went to other famous alien productions or like have any unused aliens, we need to populate our film with a bunch of aliens.
51:46
[UNKNOWN]: and it worked.
51:46
[UNKNOWN]: So there's a bunch of really cool and diverse alien designs in there.
51:50
[UNKNOWN]: So I really like that.
51:52
[UNKNOWN]: And the music, I actually, I don't like those song that opens the film, but I like the controversial needle drop.
52:02
[UNKNOWN]: I don't want to say why it's controversial.
52:04
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I will talk about how it's used in the in the last act of the film, so well, that's definitely behind the spoiler warning.
52:11
[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, I I actually quite liked it and I think it's the decision of of being like this kind of lighter thing and being caught in the middle of this chaos.
52:22
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
52:22
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I mean, yeah, I mean, whatever.
52:26
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I didn't get the hate for it.
52:28
[UNKNOWN]: And I just thought on most on the for the most part in the visual front front I thought it was fantastic we got Anna B. Shepherd and Neil Lamont on the costume design and production design respectively Rob Hardy doing the cinematography who Yeah, what else did Rob Hardy do
52:49
[UNKNOWN]: annihilation in 20x lane, mission impossible fallout, ex machina in 2014, silver war in 24.
53:01
[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, hearty's been doing this thing.
53:05
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and like I said, I loved the on location shoots in Scotland and there was like a fun fifth elements one of my favorite movies from growing up and there was definitely some fun fifth element vibes in here overall.
53:20
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
53:21
[UNKNOWN]: Did you have any other spoiler free thoughts?
53:23
[UNKNOWN]: Nah, this talk about the movie.
53:26
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
53:26
[UNKNOWN]: All right.
53:27
[UNKNOWN]: It's like a hour in.
53:30
[UNKNOWN]: Well, we've been talking about the movie for the past 20 minutes.
53:34
[UNKNOWN]: I tease again.
53:36
[UNKNOWN]: All right.
53:36
[UNKNOWN]: We're going to take a quick break.
53:38
[UNKNOWN]: Again, just to give people who don't want the spoilers, a chance to get away when we come back, it will be full spoilers for Supergirl 2026.
53:46
[UNKNOWN]: You are warned.
53:58
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, we are back full spoilers on the table.
54:02
[UNKNOWN]: Should we begin with Kara's backstory?
54:04
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
54:06
[UNKNOWN]: During the destruction of the planet Krypton, scientists, ZRL, and his wife, Alora, evacuated along with many Kryptonians to Argo City where ZRL activates a force field system that separates a chunk containing the city of Krypton, preventing it from being destroyed when the planet's core explodes.
54:25
[UNKNOWN]: Eight years later, Allora gets birthed to her and Zorral's daughter, Cara.
54:30
[UNKNOWN]: Eventually, it is discovered that the separation of Augustine exposes a mineral known as kryptonite, which is slowly killing the citizens via radiation.
54:40
[UNKNOWN]: After Allora succumbs to kryptonite poisoning, Zorral decides to send Cara and her daughter, Krypto, on a ship headed to Earth.
54:48
[UNKNOWN]: Upon landing, they are greeted by
54:52
[UNKNOWN]: who was living a double life and as Clark and as Superman.
54:57
[UNKNOWN]: Karan later tries to adjust to her life her new life on Earth while also adopting the moniker Supergirl.
55:04
[UNKNOWN]: So... What do you think?
55:06
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I said, what did you think of Millie Alcock as Supergirl?
55:10
[UNKNOWN]: I said what I thought of the casting.
55:11
[UNKNOWN]: No, I thought she was great.
55:13
[UNKNOWN]: I thought she was great.
55:14
[UNKNOWN]: I think she really embodied the spirit of this story.
55:20
[UNKNOWN]: Right?
55:20
[UNKNOWN]: I thought she portray Cara's angst and just overall loneliness really well.
55:30
[UNKNOWN]: her anger really well and just the confusing place that someone is in their life when everything has been uprooted, everything that she knew is gone and not she has to adjust.
55:44
[UNKNOWN]: I thought Milliaa Kalk was just, yeah they were really good in this film.
55:51
[UNKNOWN]: But I believe her as a group.
55:53
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, for sure.
55:54
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
55:55
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I think that that is something actually that it hasn't come in with the 1984 movie.
56:01
[UNKNOWN]: It does also dwell on this this backstory.
56:05
[UNKNOWN]: Although this one gets more, I'll say the advantage when it comes to dealing with the emotional impact of coming from this
56:17
[UNKNOWN]: city in the sky that died and everyone you knew died, I think this this movie does have the advantage there actually where you know just seeing like yeah what would it be like if you were the only person saved from everything you knew growing up the survivor skills is intense and
56:39
[UNKNOWN]: portraying that well.
56:40
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, you really feel it.
56:43
[UNKNOWN]: And so I thought she was, uh, yeah, it was a great casting.
56:48
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
56:49
[UNKNOWN]: And I think her chemistry with, with, um, Ruthie.
56:53
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, no, with, uh, Clark, who plays Clark, David.
56:58
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, corn sweat.
56:59
[UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
57:00
[UNKNOWN]: I thought there, you know, back and forth, you could, you could feel like some sort of familial attachment between the two of them, trying to bridge a gap.
57:09
[UNKNOWN]: You know, that only, in ways that family tries to, you know, deal with each other, you know, like, I can't just kick you out, I just can't let you, you're a dog, you're damn dog.
57:22
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, you know, you were family, it's like I can't just say get the fuck out of him.
57:28
[UNKNOWN]: Don't come back, you know, like you might be able to do with a friend.
57:31
[UNKNOWN]: Well, he wants her there.
57:32
[UNKNOWN]: He wants her there because she's a connection to his family that he's lost as well.
57:37
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
57:38
[UNKNOWN]: So when I think he also, because he's a good person and he understands that she's, you know, he's been raised on earth and she has not.
57:50
[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, and I, yeah, I think he, he wants to provide what was provided for him by the kids.
57:56
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
57:58
[UNKNOWN]: I like James Gunn described this version of Supergirl's Pixieish, but very additudinal like that's fair.
58:05
[UNKNOWN]: And described her as an anti-hero, and we'll get into the ending, but they definitely changed the comic book ending, and she does something that she's like, she's like, Ruthie, do as I say, not as I do, pop out.
58:21
[UNKNOWN]: Which I don't mind, I didn't mind, I didn't mind that at all, I think some people
58:27
[UNKNOWN]: You know, felt the ways about it, but I, for this story and the way this adaptation flowed, it made perfect sense for me to end it that way.
58:37
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
58:39
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I think it's interesting to see because again, like to bring up the adventures of Superman, season two was particularly about a similar sort of journey for Cara coming to Earth and in the case of that, like minor spoilers for that, she was raised by Brainy Acquival, people or machines in this case.
59:00
[UNKNOWN]: And just, just yeah, how
59:06
[UNKNOWN]: it learning through Clark the kindness exists and it's not just something you have to hide and protect in yourself, but it can actually be a strength.
59:18
[UNKNOWN]: And I think that that's something that, yeah, Clark can give us to her and also in this case we see with the memory of her mother and her parents.
59:28
[UNKNOWN]: So we had Emily Beechum as Alura in say and then David Crumholz as Zorrow and I know I'm not the only one who would talk a beat to recognize David Crumholz if like I used to love him from for instance the Santa Claus growing up.
59:43
[UNKNOWN]: I don't remember that one.
59:45
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
59:46
[UNKNOWN]: The Tim Allen movie, where he played it.
59:49
[UNKNOWN]: I think he was the head-off.
59:51
[UNKNOWN]: Not a Tim Allen guy.
59:52
[UNKNOWN]: No.
59:54
[UNKNOWN]: I think we watched every Christmas.
59:55
[UNKNOWN]: It's a Christmas classic.
59:57
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, no.
59:57
[UNKNOWN]: No.
59:59
[UNKNOWN]: Not a model, so.
1:00:05
[UNKNOWN]: But I loved the, there's another quote that I loved was that Laura said to Cara, you are, or no, I guess I'm sorry.
1:00:14
[UNKNOWN]: It was actually Zorrell who said that you are our souls unfolding into the future.
1:00:19
[UNKNOWN]: And I think that's true from all parents to their kids, but that's sort of like,
1:00:24
[UNKNOWN]: but it's especially because they knew she would have to leave on without live on without them.
1:00:29
[UNKNOWN]: And that moment that was a beautiful, that, that, that, and I'll sit next to E watching the movie.
1:00:37
[UNKNOWN]: And so there were, that are the whole thing with Augusta, he hit quite hard for me.
1:00:44
[UNKNOWN]: They did well with that.
1:00:46
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, if for those who don't know, ease my 10-year-old, so, you know, having him next to me in those scenes, was just like, yeah, this type of shit I probably would fucking do.
1:00:56
[UNKNOWN]: I'm just saying, like, get your ass in this rocket ship, because you're not gonna, you're not gonna sit on to this.
1:01:04
[UNKNOWN]: You know what I mean?
1:01:05
[UNKNOWN]: That means I have the power to stop it.
1:01:07
[UNKNOWN]: And that was his only intent.
1:01:09
[UNKNOWN]: He wasn't trying to save the city, trying to save himself.
1:01:13
[UNKNOWN]: He was just like, come on and try to save my daughter.
1:01:18
[UNKNOWN]: And also, what does that do to her?
1:01:21
[UNKNOWN]: Which is what this film is really about?
1:01:23
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah.
1:01:25
[UNKNOWN]: What does that do to her?
1:01:26
[UNKNOWN]: Like you said, survivors, guilt, survivors, remorse, having to get into that rocket ship and see and know that your father's on a...
1:01:38
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so it's something.
1:01:40
[UNKNOWN]: So that's her backstory.
1:01:42
[UNKNOWN]: So what's what's her situation in the present, particularly like what is her deal with the sentence?
1:01:49
[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot of sudden color talk in the comic book, too, we'll say.
1:01:52
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so, you know, yellow sun powers, cryptonians.
1:01:56
[UNKNOWN]: So Superman, super girl, any cryptonians.
1:01:59
[UNKNOWN]: Like our sun is yellow.
1:02:00
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, so the earth sun is yellow.
1:02:03
[UNKNOWN]: Any yellow sun?
1:02:05
[UNKNOWN]: feeds their cells with this radiation solar radiation that makes them the powerful beings that they are different color, suns, and they react differently.
1:02:17
[UNKNOWN]: What was the color on the planet?
1:02:20
[UNKNOWN]: There's red on the planet rooties for us.
1:02:23
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, so the red sun takes away the red then because they're not super power there, right?
1:02:28
[UNKNOWN]: No, they're not.
1:02:30
[UNKNOWN]: They're not.
1:02:31
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so the red sun takes away their powers, Kryptonians, so they don't function like they would under the yellow sun.
1:02:41
[UNKNOWN]: They're no super spline, super speed, can't fly.
1:02:44
[UNKNOWN]: None of the things that you normally associate with Superman or Supergirl, can they do under a red sun?
1:02:54
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so that's where we are at.
1:02:56
[UNKNOWN]: So she likes to go to planets with red sun.
1:03:02
[UNKNOWN]: So she could get drunk, you know?
1:03:06
[UNKNOWN]: Like, if she stays on earth and she drinks, it doesn't affect the Kryptonian because their metabolism is so superchar, super power dead.
1:03:15
[UNKNOWN]: There's no way alcohol or any drug really can take a hold.
1:03:19
[UNKNOWN]: So she goes off-world to places where she knows her metabolism will not,
1:03:28
[UNKNOWN]: you know, impede the high, and this is what she wants to do, to try to get away.
1:03:35
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I gotta say, I mean, I think that's fucking relatable.
1:03:42
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, no, I understand that, you know, although, okay, here's my question.
1:03:47
[UNKNOWN]: So we saw her at the end of Superman.
1:03:49
[UNKNOWN]: She comes back from such, is it's also her birthday and she's gone off world partying.
1:03:55
[UNKNOWN]: And she, that time she left crypto, the dog behind and that's the plot of Superman.
1:04:01
[UNKNOWN]: It's please see, asterisk sees Superman for more information.
1:04:05
[UNKNOWN]: But anyway, so, and then she comes back at the
1:04:10
[UNKNOWN]: Crypto is actually her dog and she hasn't trained him and that's why he's such a naughty boy.
1:04:15
[UNKNOWN]: And now she's traveling for her birthday.
1:04:19
[UNKNOWN]: So is this like a year later?
1:04:20
[UNKNOWN]: Is that what we're supposed to understand?
1:04:22
[UNKNOWN]: I thought, yeah, I thought it was.
1:04:24
[UNKNOWN]: I didn't think he wasn't directly lying from the end of the Superman movie to this one.
1:04:30
[UNKNOWN]: I think some time has passed here.
1:04:32
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:04:33
[UNKNOWN]: And I guess she's going, maybe she's going, she went for a birthday week, she said, but it sounds like when Clark is calling her and stuff, it sounds like she's spending a lot more time off-world than just that, like off-earth.
1:04:50
[UNKNOWN]: She doesn't want to be around.
1:04:52
[UNKNOWN]: She wants to, you know, forget.
1:04:53
[UNKNOWN]: All right, she's depressed and she's,
1:04:58
[UNKNOWN]: sad and she's, you don't, not caring and she's in those feelings, she's in those emotions and not talking about them.
1:05:14
[UNKNOWN]: How did you feel about how Clark was used in this film?
1:05:19
[UNKNOWN]: Just right, I think, because if you put Clark Kent, Kyle L. Superman in the film,
1:05:27
[UNKNOWN]: they can overpower it, you know, the character is the character.
1:05:33
[UNKNOWN]: And then the movie would become about how Clark how Superman reacts to Supergirl.
1:05:39
[UNKNOWN]: And that's now what we wanted.
1:05:41
[UNKNOWN]: That's what I wanted.
1:05:41
[UNKNOWN]: I want it to be a story about her.
1:05:43
[UNKNOWN]: That's not in the comic, it's based on her.
1:05:45
[UNKNOWN]: Right, right.
1:05:46
[UNKNOWN]: So I wanted this to be a story about her.
1:05:48
[UNKNOWN]: And that's what they gave us.
1:05:49
[UNKNOWN]: They gave us a story about her.
1:05:50
[UNKNOWN]: I think he's in it just the right amount of times.
1:05:59
[UNKNOWN]: I don't have a problem with that.
1:06:00
[UNKNOWN]: I didn't have a problem with it.
1:06:01
[UNKNOWN]: No, I think it was well used.
1:06:03
[UNKNOWN]: I think that, you know, we established at the beginning with these video calls that it's grounds it immediately like this.
1:06:10
[UNKNOWN]: Is the same universe as the Superman movie we just saw, but then also, you know, that there is it establishes her conflict in the sense that she, her conflict is sort of,
1:06:22
[UNKNOWN]: She feels homeless and Clark says, please accept Earth is your home and in a way like end me with it, you know.
1:06:31
[UNKNOWN]: And then, by the end of the movie, we see, yeah, they're in the same room and by establishing that relationship, it gives her something to go home to, you know, to complete that arc and it also sets it up very well to see.
1:06:52
[UNKNOWN]: I cannot wait more than anything from this to see the two of them team up together.
1:06:56
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah.
1:06:59
[UNKNOWN]: I think that there's, yeah, there's a fun, like, it's like a sibling dynamic between them, but it is almost like he's being sort of a dad in a way and he's going to have to let that go.
1:07:10
[UNKNOWN]: He's like, you know, you're only 10 years older than her and you're not her dad.
1:07:15
[UNKNOWN]: She had a dad.
1:07:21
[UNKNOWN]: That's in the comic in the it's different here.
1:07:23
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:07:24
[UNKNOWN]: No, that's one of that's the thing.
1:07:26
[UNKNOWN]: It's like there's this dynamic.
1:07:28
[UNKNOWN]: She was older.
1:07:29
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I don't know.
1:07:30
[UNKNOWN]: Is it different in the movie?
1:07:32
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, because in the movie, she wasn't born until Argo City was already around nine years.
1:07:37
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so he's like 10 years older than her.
1:07:41
[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
1:07:42
[UNKNOWN]: yeah so that's a change from the comic source material where what is it she's still she's like physically younger but it's because she was in stasis longer yes yes in the comics yeah yeah so that's a change
1:07:56
[UNKNOWN]: I liked that it opens with crypto peeing on that newspaper and we see this big headline for Superman, but if you pause it then you see there's a smaller article where she looks really uncomfortable with her hair tied back and stuff like big smile and it's like super girl saves cats which is funny because she's clearly a dog person.
1:08:17
[UNKNOWN]: but it does also funny because in the, was it the original superman with Christopher Reeves or was it superman too?
1:08:25
[UNKNOWN]: I think it's the original one where he saves a cat at one point in the film and it became this whole concept in screenwriting.
1:08:34
[UNKNOWN]: There's like a screenwriting book, famous one called Save the Cat about screenwriting.
1:08:41
[UNKNOWN]: like tips and one of the things is you establish that your hero is a hero by having them do something in the beginning that's small but you know heartwarming like when Superman saved the cat from a tree in the beginning of Superman.
1:08:57
[UNKNOWN]: It was the first one.
1:08:58
[UNKNOWN]: It was the first one.
1:08:59
[UNKNOWN]: It was the first Superman movie that that happened.
1:09:02
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:09:04
[UNKNOWN]: What did you think about the use of, so we have a con-lang being used in here for Kryptonian?
1:09:10
[UNKNOWN]: So it's actually, it was done by the language, was put together also as in the Super Ram movie by David J. Peterson, and Jesse Peterson.
1:09:21
[UNKNOWN]: But David J. Peterson, especially, is known for, for example, making Doth Rackie and Hivellarian in the Song of Ice and Fire Universe.
1:09:31
[UNKNOWN]: And but this language is called Sir and Krypton.
1:09:38
[UNKNOWN]: I liked they had aliens speaking other languages throughout.
1:09:41
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I thought that was that was great.
1:09:43
[UNKNOWN]: I think another thing that I really liked about this is how Zarel paints a totally different picture of his expectations for her once she reaches earth as opposed to what
1:10:00
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:10:00
[UNKNOWN]: And it's the differences between helping, which is what, you know, we always think of Superman as being there for and ruling.
1:10:11
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:10:12
[UNKNOWN]: And so this was really a nice way to point out the differences within Kryptonian society, as well as between Clara, Clara, and
1:10:29
[UNKNOWN]: and it's not just looking at these two characters that we can see that but we can also see that with their backgrounds, like who their parents were, what they thought and how they viewed power is totally different things.
1:10:44
[UNKNOWN]: So I thought that was a nice touch to add.
1:10:47
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's definitely controversial that they made Jarrell and, you know, they made Clark's pair, or, yeah, Superman, Colelle's Kryptonian parents, not the kids, the kids are lovely, obviously.
1:11:03
[UNKNOWN]: But his Kryptonian parents, in fact, that they made them, you know, give him this message of, we want you to be a conqueror, basically, and
1:11:13
[UNKNOWN]: We see that referenced in this by Cara's parents who do not agree with this.
1:11:21
[UNKNOWN]: But it's interesting, so Cara was raised by parents with more kindness in their hearts, it seems.
1:11:28
[UNKNOWN]: And obviously we see that that competes with her pain in terms of which way she goes on the morality scale and ultimately being raised by kind parents wins out with her.
1:11:43
[UNKNOWN]: No, because I can think of a scenario where she comes to Earth, you know, but having, but with if she had the same parents that clock had on cryptography, they were from the same mold, when she comes to Earth, she's, you know, burning everything down, she's, you know,
1:12:08
[UNKNOWN]: So I just really liked that they made that distinction because I wasn't bothered by the drill thing and Superman in the Superman movie.
1:12:18
[UNKNOWN]: It didn't bother me at all.
1:12:21
[UNKNOWN]: But I just, I think it's good storytelling when you can say these characters from the same place, you know, they have the same power set, whatever.
1:12:34
[UNKNOWN]: but they're not made from the same mold.
1:12:38
[UNKNOWN]: Like how do we get supergirl out of her trauma and into the stage that the place where her parents thought that she could be?
1:12:53
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:12:54
[UNKNOWN]: And the opposite is of Clark.
1:13:00
[UNKNOWN]: You know, you were raised to be opposite of the place where your parents wanted you to be.
1:13:07
[UNKNOWN]: So I think it's an interesting dichotomy that we have set between the two of them.
1:13:12
[UNKNOWN]: And it's only even more interesting when they, at some point, have to introduce even more Crypto onions to the DCU universe.
1:13:21
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:13:21
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I mean, this will probably be the last time I bring this up, sorry, but in season two of my venture for Superman.
1:13:30
[UNKNOWN]: It's interesting to contrast them because, as I said before, we have this version of Supergirl who was raised by Brainiac and so she was raised being taught this domineering mentality where
1:13:45
[UNKNOWN]: The things Brainiac was saying in that show sound just like the things that Superman's biological parents were saying in that video, Superman, only Superman only heard that message as an adult after he's like, oh god, no, where it's Cara had that indoctrinated in her from childhood in this other version, in the animated version.
1:14:08
[UNKNOWN]: So it is an interesting contrast and how that affects them.
1:14:12
[UNKNOWN]: I do still hope that they explore more about superman's parents and why they thought that because that to me, especially after seeing carous parents, it feels incongruous to me, like why would these two brothers have such different ideologies?
1:14:30
[UNKNOWN]: I would love a prequel film set on Krypton to be honest.
1:14:34
[UNKNOWN]: that would be amazing, that would be amazing.
1:14:36
[UNKNOWN]: But again, when we get introduced to other cryptoneans, I think those things will be fleshed out a little bit more.
1:14:47
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
1:14:48
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:14:49
[UNKNOWN]: There was a saying, yeah, it's about the languages, it's called, there's a five alien languages in this film, and it's nice, especially, that we have the guy, David J. Peterson, from, you know, the Game of Thrones world, the House of the Dragon World, because he, Abby was just telling me, I think, in a private conversation when we were talking about House of the Dragon, that he was saying,
1:15:11
[UNKNOWN]: He couldn't, wasn't allowed to be on set for that show, but he was commenting on, like people were asking him, who does the best, HiVelirian, and he said Millie Alcock.
1:15:23
[UNKNOWN]: So, wow.
1:15:24
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:15:25
[UNKNOWN]: And I loved also, you know, I said, I thought that the immigrant experience was one of the stronger aspects and one of the bits that was when she showed up and she's speaking Kryptonian doesn't understand English and he's like, oh, oh, I wasn't raised there.
1:15:42
[UNKNOWN]: Why am I talking louder?
1:15:46
[UNKNOWN]: The dynamic between them and I wouldn't mind to see in the future more exploration of
1:15:53
[UNKNOWN]: you know, how she learned English and things like that.
1:15:56
[UNKNOWN]: Because she speaks quite American English now, which is not merely alcohol's natural accent.
1:16:01
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:16:01
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:16:02
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:16:05
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:16:06
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:16:07
[UNKNOWN]: Do you want to set up an antidote to revenge?
1:16:10
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:16:10
[UNKNOWN]: Um, while stopping on the planet Halzer, current encounters Ruthie Marie now, the last survivor of a family who were murdered by
1:16:21
[UNKNOWN]: leader of a ruthless banded group, known as the Braggans.
1:16:25
[UNKNOWN]: Ruffi, Request Cara's assistance, and her quest for vengeance, but is denied crime hijacks Cara's ship, alongside several Braggans, and shoots Crypto of a poisonous dart when he tries to stop them.
1:16:39
[UNKNOWN]: Upon learning that crypto has only three days left to live, power decides to pursue crime to retrieve an antidote that he keeps on his person, while also reluctantly taking on Rufli as her companion.
1:16:53
[UNKNOWN]: What did you think about this setup?
1:16:55
[UNKNOWN]: Can I just say that I found the most upsetting thing, unnecessary, was her saying, I'm sorry, the crypto is going to be in a lot of pain during the days while we're doing this.
1:17:05
[UNKNOWN]: I could have been thinking about that for the rest of the movie, every scene I'm just thinking crypto is in pain right now.
1:17:11
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
1:17:22
[UNKNOWN]: In the film versus the comic, one big change is that it turns out at the end of the comic that crypto was actually fine, it was not so difficult to heal, but it was actually Cara.
1:17:37
[UNKNOWN]: saying this because she wanted to go in this quest with Ruthie and teacher about not doing revenge basically, which is a theme obviously that comes back here too.
1:17:45
[UNKNOWN]: But I, there's a scene in the, when they're in the cave on the planet with the, when the green sun is up so carouseraft.
1:17:55
[UNKNOWN]: And Ruthie's like, I'm so sorry.
1:17:57
[UNKNOWN]: I thought she was about to confess that she, because she translated
1:18:01
[UNKNOWN]: to her.
1:18:03
[UNKNOWN]: I thought she was going to say the healer said it's easy to heal and I tricked you to come along and help me and she didn't say that and then I was like even though I wrote that in my head I was kind of disappointed it didn't play out like that for some reason and well I guess also just because it meant that crypto really wasn't paying the whole time.
1:18:23
[UNKNOWN]: Poor crypto.
1:18:24
[UNKNOWN]: Poor crypto.
1:18:25
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:18:26
[UNKNOWN]: Poor crypto.
1:18:27
[UNKNOWN]: What did you think about e-riddly?
1:18:31
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I thought that she was a great casting for this.
1:18:35
[UNKNOWN]: Any problems I have with the character come down to the writing, not the acting.
1:18:39
[UNKNOWN]: I just thought that it was a case of just a sudden switch from one stereotype, the damsel and the stress to another stereotype, the badass, is just like the Green Sun kicked in, Kara got weaker and suddenly she can fight out of nowhere.
1:18:56
[UNKNOWN]: Um, so yeah, my, my only problems with the character are about that, but I thought that the casting is great.
1:19:02
[UNKNOWN]: I thought she, you know, I think she portrayed it very well.
1:19:06
[UNKNOWN]: Um, I would be happy to see more of her.
1:19:09
[UNKNOWN]: I was happy to see them go off together.
1:19:12
[UNKNOWN]: Um, at the end, except I was like, wait, how old are you little girl?
1:19:15
[UNKNOWN]: You're going to go off on a tub crawl on a bender.
1:19:22
[UNKNOWN]: They did amp up.
1:19:23
[UNKNOWN]: Well, first of all, shout out to her dad in the show, Elias Noll, played by Ferdinand Kingsley, who's George from Silo!
1:19:34
[UNKNOWN]: Um, I like the change that they made him a famous swordsman versus a rock farmer in the comic.
1:19:41
[UNKNOWN]: I do think that should have motivated more what Krem was after.
1:19:44
[UNKNOWN]: I think that's kind of my thing with Krem is like I could never tell what he was after other than just like being bad for the sake of being bad.
1:19:50
[UNKNOWN]: Like I don't know what his personal goals were because whenever he would pursue something you'd be like, Oh, I caught the girl who got away and now I just killed her like, okay.
1:19:58
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, I got your ship, but now I just left it behind like, okay.
1:20:01
[UNKNOWN]: And so it wasn't sure why like what motivated him to kill her entire family, that's a change instead of just her dad.
1:20:10
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I don't think he wanted, I don't think he intended to kill the brother.
1:20:17
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, he killed the brother first, and then maybe it was just like, oh, I think when the brother, when the brother just was trying to surprise.
1:20:24
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:20:26
[UNKNOWN]: Uh, goofy.
1:20:26
[UNKNOWN]: Just trying to be like, It was just like, relax.
1:20:29
[UNKNOWN]: It was like, oh, okay, boom.
1:20:31
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:20:31
[UNKNOWN]: And then once that was that deed was done, it was just like, fuck it.
1:20:35
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:20:36
[UNKNOWN]: Everybody did.
1:20:37
[UNKNOWN]: But what did he want in the first place?
1:20:41
[UNKNOWN]: I think he came for the sword, no?
1:20:43
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, but then he left it.
1:20:44
[UNKNOWN]: The greatest weapon.
1:20:45
[UNKNOWN]: but then he didn't take it.
1:20:47
[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, that's the thing is like, I don't know, he didn't seem to follow through and the things that he was supposed to want.
1:20:52
[UNKNOWN]: I think he came for the sword.
1:20:53
[UNKNOWN]: He might have come for the sword, but he also, yeah, I don't know.
1:20:58
[UNKNOWN]: I think, Krem of the Yellow Hills was, again, not a very complex world ending universal for it.
1:21:09
[UNKNOWN]: Just, you're running the mill.
1:21:11
[UNKNOWN]: I'm fine with the small threat.
1:21:12
[UNKNOWN]: Bad guy.
1:21:16
[UNKNOWN]: Because once they showed what they were about, you know, what the regans were actually doing and how they were, why they were pirates and pirating the seas, the space, the heroes, ports and all of that stuff.
1:21:37
[UNKNOWN]: then I came to understand that, all right, this is just a regular last criminal.
1:21:43
[UNKNOWN]: What I didn't like for me, what I didn't like a departure from the comics, was that they gave, they made them powerful, like super power.
1:21:54
[UNKNOWN]: Like in the comics, yeah, I think he was.
1:21:57
[UNKNOWN]: I guess he could hold his own two well against Cara.
1:21:59
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and in the comics, he was it.
1:22:03
[UNKNOWN]: You know, he was just a regular, you know, he didn't think of him as super powered in the film, but yeah, he was, or yeah, he was holding his own two well against Cara.
1:22:12
[UNKNOWN]: But I suppose they did at least have to first like drug her in order for him.
1:22:16
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but even still, you know,
1:22:25
[UNKNOWN]: You know what I mean?
1:22:26
[UNKNOWN]: What do you think is the my problem with him is like, okay, I think you can boil it down to the whole prison scene, which yeah, we'll set up shortly.
1:22:36
[UNKNOWN]: But when Ruthie is in prison, she meets Lobo there and you know, on the like in the break on the brigands ship.
1:22:48
[UNKNOWN]: Um, she meets Lover there and she's basically kind of making the same complaints about Crem than I am.
1:22:53
[UNKNOWN]: She's like, he has, he's like, he's, uh, has no purpose.
1:22:57
[UNKNOWN]: He's just killing for sport and Lobo's like, well, sport is a purpose, you know, hunting for his sport is, uh, doing something.
1:23:04
[UNKNOWN]: But I disagree that he's even doing that because I think, you know, it's not, it's like calling, squishing, and hunting for sport.
1:23:16
[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, okay.
1:23:17
[UNKNOWN]: Anyway, no, I can't say that your complaint is off.
1:23:24
[UNKNOWN]: It's just for me.
1:23:25
[UNKNOWN]: I just, I, yeah, I was just okay with him being just that.
1:23:31
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:23:33
[UNKNOWN]: I thought it was a Belgian actor, Matias, who nuts?
1:23:37
[UNKNOWN]: So it was, I didn't even recognize him at first because of the design.
1:23:44
[UNKNOWN]: I did, as I said, I really liked the design that they went with the whole Viking thing and they did research into Viking stuff and piercings and studs.
1:23:54
[UNKNOWN]: I thought that that was a cool choice.
1:23:55
[UNKNOWN]: I know it looks a little different from the comics, but I think it's nice to have, especially since they can't have that artwork that we have in the comics, it adds a nice distinctive visual flare.
1:24:11
[UNKNOWN]: I thought the whole look of all the organs, I thought they were just, I thought they look cool.
1:24:19
[UNKNOWN]: I didn't mind the change, I think he was, he looked menacing, crem that is, you know, properly menacing, properly, you know, like, okay, I know that's a bad guy, when I see him on screen.
1:24:35
[UNKNOWN]: You know, I'm not supposed to root for this guy, so I was cool with the way that they they made those little those changes I did miss the red beard though.
1:24:45
[UNKNOWN]: I will say that.
1:24:46
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, I did miss the beard That I'm crammed sported in the in the comics because I thought that was really distinctive But you know the face piercings in the movie is distinctive as well.
1:25:01
[UNKNOWN]: So we have that Yeah
1:25:05
[UNKNOWN]: Well, to set up the next block of plot, after brief skirmish with this Galarian Raiders, a group of space pirates, Cara, interrogates them and learns of Krem's location on the planet Bill Quest, which is named after the artist from the comic.
1:25:21
[UNKNOWN]: There, although I'll say, of all the plans to name after her, why did you choose the darkest and drearyest one?
1:25:29
[UNKNOWN]: Anyway, there, Kara and Ruthie, learn from a local couple, Bo-Mar and Mark, that the brigands have been kidnapping young women to force them to be their brides.
1:25:41
[UNKNOWN]: Marek attempts to drug Kara to trade her and Ruthy to the brigands in exchange for their daughter, Sardina, but Kara resists and fights the brigands and is assisted by the bounty hunter, Lobo, who is targeting the brigands lieutenant, Drom Bexton.
1:25:56
[UNKNOWN]: amidst the battle, Kara stops Ruthie from killing Krem, allowing him to escape after killing Beaumar and his family, a guilt-ridden Kara decides to pursue Krem alone and is escorted by several local aliens to the brigands location on another planet, Valentine, however, Kara is weakened by the planet's green sun and is tended to by Ruthie, who secretly followed her.
1:26:21
[UNKNOWN]: So, yeah, the theme that I think are both iffy on is this whole, I mean, we've been having so many conversations about how House of the Dragon treats the subjugation of women, and, you know, just the sexual assault themes and stuff, and this to me felt, and I know it was written by a woman, but it felt to me of a similar slightly lazy vein, and because I'm not saying, don't explore those themes.
1:26:46
[UNKNOWN]: I'm just saying, when you do,
1:26:48
[UNKNOWN]: do it for a reason, you know, not just to have like a short cut for this guy bad, okay?
1:26:54
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, actually explore it's, you know, and not just to have like a girl power moment at the end.
1:27:02
[UNKNOWN]: I think that that's the critique of crime that makes more sense for me.
1:27:08
[UNKNOWN]: What's that?
1:27:10
[UNKNOWN]: They
1:27:12
[UNKNOWN]: Once he killed Ruthie's family, they could've explored who he was, right?
1:27:19
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
1:27:21
[UNKNOWN]: But the sex trafficking aspect was what?
1:27:28
[UNKNOWN]: I think the movie was making us trying to make us feel like this is why he's so bad.
1:27:35
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
1:27:36
[UNKNOWN]: Right?
1:27:37
[UNKNOWN]: And I don't think we need that to tell me somebody's bad.
1:27:42
[UNKNOWN]: I will say that, again, he didn't pick up any of that stuff.
1:27:47
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, watching the film with, even afterwards, we talked about it and my better has spoke to him about the movie as well.
1:27:53
[UNKNOWN]: She didn't see it, but she just asked him about it.
1:27:54
[UNKNOWN]: But he never picked up one of those things or those themes.
1:27:56
[UNKNOWN]: But for us, it's like, you know, it's like, you know, it's like, you know, it's like, you know, it's like, you know, it's like, you know, it's like, you know, it's like, you know,
1:28:05
[UNKNOWN]: We don't need that it was not needed to explain to us to show us how bad of a person, cram of the yellow hills is.
1:28:14
[UNKNOWN]: Cause we already saw him kill her family for no reason at all.
1:28:19
[UNKNOWN]: You know what I mean?
1:28:20
[UNKNOWN]: Like that didn't add any extra layer to the brigands or to the movie itself for me.
1:28:30
[UNKNOWN]: And that's the one solid critique that I do have of the film.
1:28:35
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
1:28:37
[UNKNOWN]: Um, it's a bit about the comic thing, you know, one of the coolest locations from the comic made it into the film, which is that space bus.
1:28:45
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:28:46
[UNKNOWN]: Did you think about that?
1:28:47
[UNKNOWN]: No, I thought that the whole sequence with the phasing in and out, and that was really cool.
1:28:55
[UNKNOWN]: The bus, you know, I've been on Greyhounds when I was younger and I know that feeling.
1:29:02
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah.
1:29:06
[UNKNOWN]: Why?
1:29:07
[UNKNOWN]: Why?
1:29:07
[UNKNOWN]: Why?
1:29:09
[UNKNOWN]: Why this seat?
1:29:10
[UNKNOWN]: You know what I mean?
1:29:12
[UNKNOWN]: And you're looking for another seat.
1:29:13
[UNKNOWN]: It's a sit down in.
1:29:15
[UNKNOWN]: But the bus is packed and you can't find another seat.
1:29:18
[UNKNOWN]: You have to endure.
1:29:19
[UNKNOWN]: It's just, ah, so I felt that in that moment watching the movie.
1:29:25
[UNKNOWN]: I was like, yeah, I remember those days, like, I can recall that.
1:29:29
[UNKNOWN]: but I thought the whole sequence was really well done to fight scenes where we're really cool which is throughout the movie I thought the fight scenes were really well done.
1:29:40
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, um, important question for you, at the alien rest stop, would you eat the poop popcorn?
1:29:49
[UNKNOWN]: The poop?
1:29:49
[UNKNOWN]: Man, absolutely not.
1:29:55
[UNKNOWN]: No, this is when this is when I pull an I'm vegan
1:30:03
[UNKNOWN]: Absolutely.
1:30:04
[UNKNOWN]: I do not know.
1:30:14
[UNKNOWN]: I just can't believe she watched that thing poop it out.
1:30:17
[UNKNOWN]: I know bought it, paid money for it and then was surprised when it tasted like shit.
1:30:22
[UNKNOWN]: Like you saw how it was made.
1:30:28
[UNKNOWN]: It's going to be aromatic, I would guess.
1:30:34
[UNKNOWN]: What did you think of Seth Rogan's cameo as the little bus ride translator who didn't have the balls to go for the Yellow Star and randomly dropped some backstory about leaving his daughter or something?
1:30:52
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:30:54
[UNKNOWN]: They could give me like a little, you know, I don't know, they could do something with the space bus.
1:31:01
[UNKNOWN]: I think with those two characters.
1:31:04
[UNKNOWN]: I'm thinking, I think, as many swords.
1:31:07
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, they could do something with those two characters.
1:31:09
[UNKNOWN]: I think they could do something with those two characters.
1:31:11
[UNKNOWN]: And the random people who get on the bus, yeah, I would
1:31:22
[UNKNOWN]: six, seven, eight episodes, 20 minutes of peace.
1:31:26
[UNKNOWN]: I think that would be good viewing.
1:31:28
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I agree.
1:31:29
[UNKNOWN]: I agree.
1:31:30
[UNKNOWN]: I agree.
1:31:31
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it was it was a great setting from in the comics and I thought it was well used.
1:31:36
[UNKNOWN]: Um, I was obviously one of the big visual references that Gillespie used.
1:31:41
[UNKNOWN]: What did you think of much has been made ever since the start of the DCU was announced of the casting of former Aquaman Jason Mamoa as Lobo did it live up to your expectations.
1:31:55
[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
1:31:58
[UNKNOWN]: Absolutely 100% yes.
1:32:01
[UNKNOWN]: I, this is, this is the role for this guy in super hero movies, um, yeah, this is the role for him.
1:32:12
[UNKNOWN]: And I hope that DC gives him a lot more to do in the future in the role, because I really enjoy the screen time that Noble had in this movie.
1:32:25
[UNKNOWN]: What did you think?
1:32:27
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, no, I mean, I think, I still think the casting is good.
1:32:31
[UNKNOWN]: I liked him as Lobo.
1:32:35
[UNKNOWN]: I do wish the character had felt more fully integrated into the film overall.
1:32:41
[UNKNOWN]: Again, that just comes down to my writing quibbles.
1:32:43
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:32:44
[UNKNOWN]: Like, it really felt like at the end, I was like, there's no way that he's even in the same room as them in certain scenes.
1:32:51
[UNKNOWN]: Because it felt like a lot was,
1:32:56
[UNKNOWN]: So I don't know exactly about the behind the seamstuff, but I'm glad he's established in this universe.
1:33:03
[UNKNOWN]: He's established as having a relationship with with supergirl because they have some cool team ups in the comics.
1:33:09
[UNKNOWN]: So I'm hoping that we will see more from that in the future then.
1:33:16
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, which is backstory though for people.
1:33:20
[UNKNOWN]: I mean they they set it up, but that's his backstory.
1:33:23
[UNKNOWN]: Well, he's, you know, he's a bounty hunter.
1:33:27
[UNKNOWN]: He has a space motorcycle.
1:33:29
[UNKNOWN]: He wears a leather, he smokes a cigar, think honest horse naked.
1:33:35
[UNKNOWN]: All the time, always together.
1:33:37
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, think honest horse naked and watch him call it Predator.
1:33:40
[UNKNOWN]: Uh-huh.
1:33:42
[UNKNOWN]: The first one?
1:33:43
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:33:45
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that type of machismo bravado,
1:33:50
[UNKNOWN]: He's the last of his kind, the last season of life.
1:33:53
[UNKNOWN]: Did he really kill his whole planet?
1:33:55
[UNKNOWN]: That's what they see.
1:33:57
[UNKNOWN]: OK. That's what they see.
1:33:59
[UNKNOWN]: You know?
1:34:01
[UNKNOWN]: It's like he's the first virtual mate.
1:34:06
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, but yeah, don't write one of the kill the other planets, right?
1:34:10
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but they kill each other first.
1:34:12
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:34:13
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:34:13
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:34:13
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:34:14
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:34:14
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, each other first.
1:34:16
[UNKNOWN]: So filter my it's another property.
1:34:19
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:34:19
[UNKNOWN]: Immense.
1:34:23
[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, he's he's can't die really.
1:34:27
[UNKNOWN]: At least in the comic books, you know, any piece of him that is left, if there's a finger, ear, anything that has any scrap of genetic material, he will re-generate from any sort of wound.
1:34:47
[UNKNOWN]: So, he's functioning immortal at this point.
1:34:53
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, super powered, he's as strong as Superman, so really, really cool bad ass type of character and a lot of times when he was first introduced he was introduced as a villain wasn't anti hero anything straight up villain, but he's become a anti hero.
1:35:14
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, and it's interesting that the woman of tomorrow comic that this is based on, he's not in it, but.
1:35:23
[UNKNOWN]: No, but originally the plan was to have him in it.
1:35:26
[UNKNOWN]: And then, but DC was like, actually, no, we can't let you use him because we're planning something else for him at the moment.
1:35:34
[UNKNOWN]: So this is a change from the comics, but it is also a change back to an original intention.
1:35:41
[UNKNOWN]: Idea, yeah.
1:35:44
[UNKNOWN]: show we take a quick break here, and when we come back, let's get into the climax of the film.
1:35:52
[UNKNOWN]: Alright.
1:36:03
[UNKNOWN]: So what happens next in the movie?
1:36:05
[UNKNOWN]: So then we have Ruthie is later kidnapped by the Braggans and taken to their ship where lobal is also in prison.
1:36:11
[UNKNOWN]: Ruthie manages to escape her cell and free lobal, but it's quite my crime as she makes it topside.
1:36:16
[UNKNOWN]: She is then saved by Kaurah, who has managed to recover after the planet rotates to a yellow son.
1:36:23
[UNKNOWN]: It has done her supergirl suit with lobal's assistance, supergirl defeats the Braggans and frees the captive women on board.
1:36:34
[UNKNOWN]: as opposed to the yellows, to the reds on.
1:36:37
[UNKNOWN]: A greens on will take away a cryptoneous powers, but also poison them just as if it was kryptonite.
1:36:49
[UNKNOWN]: So that's why she was absent for this portion of the film.
1:36:59
[UNKNOWN]: because she was under a green sun, and as long as that green sun was up, if they didn't kill her, she was gonna be incapacitated.
1:37:05
[UNKNOWN]: But here's, okay, so the change from the comics there is that, you know, it was a planet that was created to sort of be a prison for Clark Kent or Kryptonians, because of the green sun, so just had the green sun and then eventually in the comic she gets off that planet with another character role mentioned and when we can do comparisons at the end.
1:37:30
[UNKNOWN]: And here, the fact that there's both the green and the yellow sun from a lower perspective, like Superman on earth, he still has his yellow sun powers even when it's nighttime, even when the sun's not directly shining on him, right?
1:37:46
[UNKNOWN]: So.
1:37:48
[UNKNOWN]: in this planet shouldn't the green and yellow sun just even each other out and make her normal?
1:37:52
[UNKNOWN]: No, because the green sun not only deep hours, but it acts as if it's kryptonite.
1:37:58
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:37:59
[UNKNOWN]: So they're being deep-powered, but also being poisoned at the same time.
1:38:04
[UNKNOWN]: But why is that like if the yellow sound on earth works even if you're on the other side of the planet where it's not shining.
1:38:11
[UNKNOWN]: So think of Superman when or Cara on earth, they're in a fight.
1:38:22
[UNKNOWN]: Cyborg Superman, right?
1:38:25
[UNKNOWN]: Really opens up his chest plate and there's a big rock of Kryptonite.
1:38:31
[UNKNOWN]: and they immediately began to become a deep-powered.
1:38:34
[UNKNOWN]: The yellow sun is still there.
1:38:36
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, so it's just the green sun, you need the direct light to have it affect you like that.
1:38:43
[UNKNOWN]: The crimp the night is a poison, yeah.
1:38:45
[UNKNOWN]: Crypto onions.
1:38:47
[UNKNOWN]: So it will immediately affect them.
1:38:50
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:38:51
[UNKNOWN]: All right, it will immediately affect them.
1:38:54
[UNKNOWN]: So having that green sun up,
1:38:58
[UNKNOWN]: negates everything because the solar, the yellow sun energy is stored this house from every maze powerful even at night because it's like a battery, he's charged, right?
1:39:09
[UNKNOWN]: They're charged with Tonya's or charged under the yellow sun.
1:39:12
[UNKNOWN]: So they're always taken in this radiation, always constantly.
1:39:18
[UNKNOWN]: So even when the sun is not there, that radiation is still in our atmosphere,
1:39:27
[UNKNOWN]: So there's no way for them to drop off, but if you introduce kryptonite, then it's a poison to them.
1:39:36
[UNKNOWN]: So it's an immediate reaction that will be power and kill them.
1:39:42
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:39:45
[UNKNOWN]: I did like when Ruthy showed up she so she stowed away and showed up followed basically to this planet and she brought the suit because they again crem just left behind supergirls ship whatever fine so she found the suit she saw it and and and Cara's like it's just a stupid suit Ruthy.
1:40:07
[UNKNOWN]: It doesn't do anything.
1:40:10
[UNKNOWN]: And she's obviously not wrong.
1:40:12
[UNKNOWN]: It's not going to heal her, exactly like that.
1:40:14
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:40:16
[UNKNOWN]: But then she puts it on after that anyway.
1:40:20
[UNKNOWN]: And we see her remembering Clark saying, oh, we wear this so that we don't look so scary to people.
1:40:26
[UNKNOWN]: We wear this represent our values as heroes basically.
1:40:33
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:40:34
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, why do you think she puts on the suit in that moment?
1:40:41
[UNKNOWN]: I think it's that moment when she's ready to start thinking ahead and stop thinking about the past.
1:40:51
[UNKNOWN]: I think that's what put none of the super-resisting me.
1:40:54
[UNKNOWN]: It's about, you know, super girl saying, okay, I'm going to put one foot forward instead of taking two steps backwards and thinking about what has happened, I'm going to affect change going forward.
1:41:11
[UNKNOWN]: mm-hmm.
1:41:13
[UNKNOWN]: Fun fact that I learned that the cape for her costume was cut from the same material that Christopher Reeves cape was cut from.
1:41:21
[UNKNOWN]: I didn't know that.
1:41:22
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's so cool.
1:41:24
[UNKNOWN]: Cool, fun fact.
1:41:26
[UNKNOWN]: So okay, I bitched about Ruthy's getting sudden fighting skills, but I do appreciate from how she earned Lobo's respect from more of an intellectual perspective, you know, where she's like,
1:41:40
[UNKNOWN]: She had first tries being direct with the brigands, which doesn't work, and then she's like, oh, you think I'm a little crybaby girl.
1:41:47
[UNKNOWN]: Let me use that.
1:41:49
[UNKNOWN]: And Lowe was like, ah, like you kid.
1:41:54
[UNKNOWN]: I'll get me out of here.
1:41:55
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, no.
1:41:57
[UNKNOWN]: I was glad she went back for him.
1:41:58
[UNKNOWN]: She, of course, she was going to go back for him.
1:42:01
[UNKNOWN]: Um, he was never like, it was funny Kara set him up, but uh, and of course Kara doesn't know at this point.
1:42:06
[UNKNOWN]: Um, what he really is like.
1:42:09
[UNKNOWN]: No, right.
1:42:09
[UNKNOWN]: So she sets him up with his big scary guy and he was never anything but nice to them to the two of them.
1:42:15
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, he was quite wonderful.
1:42:18
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
1:42:20
[UNKNOWN]: He was very joyful.
1:42:21
[UNKNOWN]: I thought, even in the bar scene when they first meet him.
1:42:25
[UNKNOWN]: He's very, uh, uh.
1:42:27
[UNKNOWN]: He's like an okay guy.
1:42:29
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:42:31
[UNKNOWN]: It's why it's like, has his mass genocide of his own utopia been greatly exaggerating.
1:42:39
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, you think he's such a nice guy that he wouldn't have killed off his whole planet.
1:42:45
[UNKNOWN]: It seems there's got to at least be some good motivation for that.
1:42:49
[UNKNOWN]: But there's a really seem to benefit anybody to do to themselves.
1:42:52
[UNKNOWN]: All right.
1:42:53
[UNKNOWN]: All right.
1:42:57
[UNKNOWN]: Uh, but yeah, I wouldn't mind to see more Ruthie and Lobo pairing up, although he's like the corruptive influence on her.
1:43:04
[UNKNOWN]: He's like, oh, you want to take your revenge here.
1:43:07
[UNKNOWN]: You go throws, throws, throws, throws, cram at her.
1:43:10
[UNKNOWN]: Like, he's cool.
1:43:11
[UNKNOWN]: I, uh, she's like died up in some wires.
1:43:14
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know what you expected to do right now with our list.
1:43:20
[UNKNOWN]: But that brings us to the whole most controversial scene, I'll say, where there's two things going on here.
1:43:28
[UNKNOWN]: One is it does get very mad, Max.
1:43:30
[UNKNOWN]: I don't see why that's a bad thing.
1:43:32
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, what's wrong with that?
1:43:35
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:43:36
[UNKNOWN]: but we have like the motorcycles and the tanks and stuff and they're doing circles around her.
1:43:41
[UNKNOWN]: And I like to tell it was kicking up the dust I thought that was visual.
1:43:44
[UNKNOWN]: That was cool.
1:43:45
[UNKNOWN]: I thought that was really cool.
1:43:47
[UNKNOWN]: And although I'll say Gillespie said that he was more inspired by like true grit and low-in and John Wick, which I can definitely see as well.
1:43:59
[UNKNOWN]: But then, yeah, there's talk about the, do we want to explain to anyone who hasn't heard about this?
1:44:05
[UNKNOWN]: What's the whole needle drop situation in controversy?
1:44:08
[UNKNOWN]: All right, so the final, you know, action sequence, there's a needle drop.
1:44:14
[UNKNOWN]: It's a song, Kelty Gray sings the middle, which is a cover of the Jimmy, of the Jimmy Eat World song.
1:44:23
[UNKNOWN]: And I think if I'm correct in what people are saying
1:44:29
[UNKNOWN]: It was a tonal mismatch for the action sequence.
1:44:34
[UNKNOWN]: I think that was the point.
1:44:35
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:44:37
[UNKNOWN]: Thank you.
1:44:39
[UNKNOWN]: I have no qualms with this choice.
1:44:45
[UNKNOWN]: She was literally stuck in the middle.
1:44:46
[UNKNOWN]: Maybe it was a little on the nose of their expeditions.
1:44:50
[UNKNOWN]: And it was also a metaphorical, too, you know, where it's just
1:44:55
[UNKNOWN]: this point where you reach in your life where you just see the chaos going around you on around you and you're like what the fuck have I got myself into?
1:45:05
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah like it was I think part of the story because she is she can even go
1:45:14
[UNKNOWN]: One way or the other, like, which way she's going to turn, how she's going to be, is she going to be the person that is stuck in the past?
1:45:23
[UNKNOWN]: So she's going to be the person that looks forward to the future and tries to make something of it.
1:45:28
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:45:28
[UNKNOWN]: She's going to lose herself to revenge or where she's going to build something positive.
1:45:33
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:45:33
[UNKNOWN]: And that is the metal.
1:45:35
[UNKNOWN]: And the same goes for Ruffy, you know?
1:45:39
[UNKNOWN]: This is the story that was being told, so I really can't fathom why people felt so strongly in the negative about it.
1:45:49
[UNKNOWN]: Just, I, yeah, somebody who would have to explain it.
1:45:56
[UNKNOWN]: What did you think of the score overall from Claudia Sarn?
1:46:00
[UNKNOWN]: I thought it was fine.
1:46:01
[UNKNOWN]: I thought it was fine.
1:46:02
[UNKNOWN]: I thought it was, you know, it wasn't the greatest
1:46:09
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but I don't think there was anything that again where I felt like, oh, why is this song playing?
1:46:17
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:46:17
[UNKNOWN]: But I don't like this song.
1:46:19
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, I don't like this, this, this, the feel of this, of this, you know, particular moment.
1:46:27
[UNKNOWN]: There was nothing like that for me.
1:46:29
[UNKNOWN]: And so, I don't know.
1:46:32
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:46:32
[UNKNOWN]: Um.
1:46:34
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, so when I look at her at Claudia Sardin, the composer, the book of Eli is really the, I liked that film, but it's only one from, I really know.
1:46:42
[UNKNOWN]: I have to say, when it comes to the score itself, I don't remember much, except at one point kind of riffing on, you know, the classic themes that exist.
1:46:52
[UNKNOWN]: I do think that the needle drops are more memorable.
1:46:55
[UNKNOWN]: And to be honest, for me, the controversial one, I think, was
1:46:59
[UNKNOWN]: for me the most successful meal drop personally.
1:47:03
[UNKNOWN]: Obviously, your mileage may vary.
1:47:08
[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, I think that if you're going to not like the film, I don't think the score, the music is the thing that makes you not like the film.
1:47:19
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
1:47:20
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:47:21
[UNKNOWN]: For me, it just doesn't hold way.
1:47:24
[UNKNOWN]: And so how does the movie end?
1:47:27
[UNKNOWN]: So we have care of cleaning with Ruthie, not to kill Crem, convincing her that it would not ease her pain, as Ruthie walks away supergirl picks up her sword and uses it to kill Crem herself.
1:47:40
[UNKNOWN]: She recovers the antidote and returns to crypto saving him in time.
1:47:44
[UNKNOWN]: Later, as supergirl bids farewell to Ruthie, she invites her to join her and celebrating the rest of her birthday week.
1:47:52
[UNKNOWN]: So the whole getting back to crypto thing, she had to find a ship.
1:47:57
[UNKNOWN]: I guess hopefully one of those ships that crashed was still functional.
1:48:01
[UNKNOWN]: So she could get herself in the brides off back to that previous planet where her ship was.
1:48:07
[UNKNOWN]: Presumably, I shouldn't call them the brides that's their captive name.
1:48:12
[UNKNOWN]: but the women who were captured, so presumably left took them back to the other planet, picked up her ship, and then went back to crypto.
1:48:20
[UNKNOWN]: I need to know how space travel works in this universe, because also she was not in stasis.
1:48:26
[UNKNOWN]: It didn't look like when she went from Argo City to Earth.
1:48:28
[UNKNOWN]: I was like, she and crypto are going to be hungry when they arrive.
1:48:34
[UNKNOWN]: How long does it take us?
1:48:36
[UNKNOWN]: But we don't know what kind of feeding system was in the capsule.
1:48:42
[UNKNOWN]: It might have hooked up to something.
1:48:45
[UNKNOWN]: But also how long does it take?
1:48:46
[UNKNOWN]: She wasn't old either.
1:48:47
[UNKNOWN]: It takes a while.
1:48:49
[UNKNOWN]: It could take a couple of years.
1:48:51
[UNKNOWN]: It could take a couple of months.
1:48:53
[UNKNOWN]: Depending on, you know, if you get stuck in a wormhole or not.
1:48:56
[UNKNOWN]: No, come on.
1:48:57
[UNKNOWN]: What kind of questions are these?
1:48:59
[UNKNOWN]: Science.
1:49:00
[UNKNOWN]: This is a coin.
1:49:02
[UNKNOWN]: What is this?
1:49:03
[UNKNOWN]: What?
1:49:04
[UNKNOWN]: Ah, the space word.
1:49:08
[UNKNOWN]: It is just space.
1:49:14
[UNKNOWN]: Um, but yeah, so it comes down to themes of revenge and I guess this is where it come where we'll get into some direct comic comparisons.
1:49:23
[UNKNOWN]: So we're going to spoil the rest of the comic.
1:49:25
[UNKNOWN]: We haven't already brought up.
1:49:27
[UNKNOWN]: But of course what the big difference there is one of the big differences is that
1:49:34
[UNKNOWN]: Cara doesn't she talks Ruthie out of killing Krem, but actually Ruthie talks her out of killing Krem at the end, I recall, and they put him in the Phantom Zone, which is like the flat, it's always represented as like a flat plane of the last universe with her trapped, and then like 300 years later, there's it's sort of ambiguous whether or not they kill him in the last.
1:49:58
[UNKNOWN]: Many, many, many years later.
1:50:00
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, what do you I mean do you think they kill her?
1:50:02
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah, I think we'll see kills him.
1:50:05
[UNKNOWN]: You do as an old woman.
1:50:06
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, yes, yes, yes, okay.
1:50:10
[UNKNOWN]: We're to some of the other differences with the comic.
1:50:13
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, but there's no comment.
1:50:15
[UNKNOWN]: There's no horseman.
1:50:15
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:50:17
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, so who's comment?
1:50:20
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
1:50:20
[UNKNOWN]: Like part of me wouldn't have hated having no way.
1:50:23
[UNKNOWN]: No way.
1:50:24
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I mean, I mean, you said we had low low instead.
1:50:27
[UNKNOWN]: And I think when low low couldn't be in the comic, that's what I like.
1:50:30
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, who's comment?
1:50:31
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, the whole the whole the whole the whole the whole the whole the whole.
1:50:33
[UNKNOWN]: But here you are talking about how does this space travel work?
1:50:37
[UNKNOWN]: And now you're telling me, if you want the common horseman
1:50:44
[UNKNOWN]: I could accept that.
1:50:45
[UNKNOWN]: It just be consistent.
1:50:46
[UNKNOWN]: She's in stasis in the comic, too.
1:50:48
[UNKNOWN]: So the comic care is about that part, like me.
1:50:52
[UNKNOWN]: But okay, who's comment for people who don't know?
1:50:55
[UNKNOWN]: Comment is, was he the paramour in the story he was?
1:51:00
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, he was like a previous story and then he dies in this story.
1:51:04
[UNKNOWN]: No, he dies in this story, but he was her, like...
1:51:08
[UNKNOWN]: Parton, now I'm saying, parton, it's not a parton or what was he to are just a fling?
1:51:15
[UNKNOWN]: Well, he was her steed previously.
1:51:18
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, so com, he, I mean, they had a romance in the past.
1:51:22
[UNKNOWN]: He also was with Cersei at one point, the, who we met Cersei in, uh, creature commanders, the witch of the mascara of Wonder Woman land.
1:51:37
[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, so he was like a man who was like cursed to become this Pegasus figure, and then so supergirl They had like an alliance and supergirl would write him as a steed and he's the one who got her off the Green Sun planet if I recall correctly, but then he ends up dying in this comic, which is like Okay, I don't know if he was ever brought back after that, but he sure dies in this one
1:52:05
[UNKNOWN]: I think so, he was like a centaur thing in the original comics, and he would transform into a regular man, right, at different points, and he would be him and Supergirl had a relationship.
1:52:11
[UNKNOWN]: This was in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in,
1:52:27
[UNKNOWN]: Well, he was, was he a centaur or is he a centaur or is he a centaur or is he a centaur or not in women of tomorrow?
1:52:32
[UNKNOWN]: No, no, no, I know comic book, but in he was like a centaur type creature in the beginning and then he was a human in the beginning or just like a man figure.
1:52:42
[UNKNOWN]: No.
1:52:43
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, he was a centaur first.
1:52:45
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, turned into a man.
1:52:46
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, and then turned into a horse.
1:52:48
[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
1:52:49
[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
1:52:50
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
1:52:53
[UNKNOWN]: Comic books man.
1:52:54
[UNKNOWN]: The sixties were a way of time, man.
1:52:59
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, yeah, yeah.
1:53:01
[UNKNOWN]: So, and then this and then the Tom King story, comment is a horse who super girl, you know, rides around, but also is a man.
1:53:17
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, he's like turned back at the end and the final confrontation.
1:53:20
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:53:21
[UNKNOWN]: So it's very weird.
1:53:24
[UNKNOWN]: And unlike Elisha, I am happy that we did not have comment in this movie.
1:53:34
[UNKNOWN]: He died in the comics, so the crypto could live because it was never really sick apparently in the comic.
1:53:48
[UNKNOWN]: just as for comment.
1:53:53
[UNKNOWN]: I may also have an extra affection for him because I drew parallels between him and
1:54:10
[UNKNOWN]: I was a horse-gride, literally took care of horses growing up.
1:54:12
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, all right, okay, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right, all right,
1:54:38
[UNKNOWN]: And I'm almost 100% sure about it.
1:54:40
[UNKNOWN]: Because Ruthie had it afterwards.
1:54:42
[UNKNOWN]: No, I. Ruthie had it.
1:54:44
[UNKNOWN]: She brought it to the bar and was like, I'll give this sword to anyone who helps me.
1:54:48
[UNKNOWN]: I'll give it to you.
1:54:48
[UNKNOWN]: You're right.
1:54:49
[UNKNOWN]: You're right.
1:54:50
[UNKNOWN]: And video was also like in the, so in the comic, Krem killed her father and left the sword in his last name.
1:54:58
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, which is why Ruthie had it.
1:55:00
[UNKNOWN]: And extra insult, I guess, yeah.
1:55:03
[UNKNOWN]: Which is kind of like the same thing, yeah, right?
1:55:07
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, but it wasn't his sword.
1:55:08
[UNKNOWN]: It was no, it wasn't his sword.
1:55:09
[UNKNOWN]: It was his father's sword here.
1:55:11
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, no, he's a sword maker, which I liked.
1:55:13
[UNKNOWN]: I like that.
1:55:14
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know what a rock farmer does that a minor.
1:55:17
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, rocks.
1:55:18
[UNKNOWN]: Who do you want to know?
1:55:20
[UNKNOWN]: It's like a girl's rocks.
1:55:23
[UNKNOWN]: And what did he do?
1:55:24
[UNKNOWN]: He keeps adding minerals until it.
1:55:26
[UNKNOWN]: No, he got a field and the field has rocks in it and we sell the rocks so people can kick them.
1:55:31
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, so we just, it's done.
1:55:33
[UNKNOWN]: Number one customer, Joel.
1:55:35
[UNKNOWN]: That's what I'm looking for.
1:55:37
[UNKNOWN]: Characteristic kick.
1:55:39
[UNKNOWN]: Yes.
1:55:41
[UNKNOWN]: We've got the Sims from Sila.
1:55:43
[UNKNOWN]: We've got Vampire Armand.
1:55:45
[UNKNOWN]: They're all lighting.
1:55:46
[UNKNOWN]: We've got Coralis, Seasonic.
1:55:48
[UNKNOWN]: They're all.
1:55:50
[UNKNOWN]: All I'm giving rocks for a lot of time.
1:55:53
[UNKNOWN]: I have the product.
1:55:54
[UNKNOWN]: You know, I'm out here handing out rocks.
1:56:03
[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot more carnage on different planets in the comics.
1:56:07
[UNKNOWN]: There's a lot more action Yeah, comics.
1:56:09
[UNKNOWN]: You can go to a bunch of different places.
1:56:11
[UNKNOWN]: I had to limit locations for this.
1:56:13
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:56:14
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:56:16
[UNKNOWN]: What, Rudy, doesn't the fancara from, yeah, over in the comments, right?
1:56:23
[UNKNOWN]: Right.
1:56:24
[UNKNOWN]: No, go ahead, go ahead.
1:56:25
[UNKNOWN]: It was a, I was, the screenwriter was actually talking about that this was the hardest part for her to cut.
1:56:31
[UNKNOWN]: In the comics, Ruthie fights dinosaurs while Kara is knocked out from the green sun.
1:56:40
[UNKNOWN]: And apparently, she found this the hardest part to cut, but I imagine probably budgeting, or, you know, just you can't fit that in with the whole Brighin plot and all that.
1:56:50
[UNKNOWN]: I thought that would have been really cool to see.
1:56:52
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I would have liked that.
1:56:55
[UNKNOWN]: I mean, I understand from a financial perspective.
1:56:57
[UNKNOWN]: I think from a writing perspective, it would have been cool.
1:57:00
[UNKNOWN]: But from a financial perspective, I understand why it was kept.
1:57:04
[UNKNOWN]: That would have been pretty cool to see.
1:57:05
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
1:57:08
[UNKNOWN]: And the comics, crypto,
1:57:12
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, is it really sick?
1:57:13
[UNKNOWN]: No.
1:57:17
[UNKNOWN]: It's all a roost.
1:57:18
[UNKNOWN]: That's good.
1:57:19
[UNKNOWN]: But Kara, to try to teach this lesson to Ruthie, like, crypto was never in any danger of dying, but Kara took Ruthie on it as journey, so she could see that revenge is not the way.
1:57:38
[UNKNOWN]: So that's a big difference from
1:57:40
[UNKNOWN]: the comic to the movie.
1:57:42
[UNKNOWN]: Because the stakes in the movie are much higher because obviously crypto is really poisoned.
1:57:51
[UNKNOWN]: So that gives it a little bit more of, um, and yeah, that's, those are the biggest differences.
1:58:01
[UNKNOWN]: But I think personally, I really did like supergirl killing crimes.
1:58:10
[UNKNOWN]: I thought it fit the narrative for this film, and she took the burden away from Roofie and will have to carry that on.
1:58:26
[UNKNOWN]: And I'm interested to see in future DCU things that have Kara in it, if that plays a role
1:58:40
[UNKNOWN]: the fact that she did kill him.
1:58:41
[UNKNOWN]: The fact that she killed him.
1:58:43
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
1:58:44
[UNKNOWN]: Is this your field guilt?
1:58:45
[UNKNOWN]: We know Clark.
1:58:47
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
1:58:47
[UNKNOWN]: Would not agree.
1:58:49
[UNKNOWN]: No.
1:58:50
[UNKNOWN]: Would not approve.
1:58:51
[UNKNOWN]: Mm-hmm.
1:58:52
[UNKNOWN]: At all.
1:58:53
[UNKNOWN]: So I would be happy to have that explored further and other properties that the DCU can give us.
1:59:03
[UNKNOWN]: See, that's the thing.
1:59:04
[UNKNOWN]: And I think that they wanted to make creme so despicable that you would be like, yeah, I kill him.
1:59:10
[UNKNOWN]: But I don't, like, I would rather see her, and he is despicable, but I just don't, I think just because I didn't buy into a consistency in his character, I don't hate him as much as I hate for example, Ormond from House of the Dragon, you know?
1:59:27
[UNKNOWN]: Like, I'm another Sikara, kill Ormond.
1:59:33
[UNKNOWN]: My level of hatred did not rise to Kristen Cole, but for this movie, I can understand why Ruffy wants to kill him, and why why that is, like, and I've never doubted for any moment that he deserved it because simply of what he did to her family.
1:59:59
[UNKNOWN]: No, yeah, and he said, even the last thing he said just like really twisted in is he's like, oh, I'm going to do to her, but she's like, and you're going to know.
2:00:09
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:00:10
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:00:13
[UNKNOWN]: All right, all right, P. Crem or not, you won't be missed.
2:00:16
[UNKNOWN]: We'll not we'll not be missed.
2:00:17
[UNKNOWN]: We'll not.
2:00:18
[UNKNOWN]: No, not sad.
2:00:19
[UNKNOWN]: He won't be in man of tomorrow.
2:00:21
[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, that is the question.
2:00:22
[UNKNOWN]: I'm what's next in the DC.
2:00:24
[UNKNOWN]: We talked about the lantern starts in two weeks in clay phase in October and then what?
2:00:29
[UNKNOWN]: Amanda tomorrow in 2027, July 9th.
2:00:33
[UNKNOWN]: Supergirl, then of course, Clark, plus Lex and Brainiac and John Stewart and AB, presumably, hope for the peace maker.
2:00:41
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it kind of left him dangling that movie.
2:00:43
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:00:46
[UNKNOWN]: I think that's all we really know.
2:00:49
[UNKNOWN]: For until, you know, Glenn decides to give us more information on what's next.
2:00:56
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, we know there was stuff in the works, but no official announcements.
2:01:00
[UNKNOWN]: It seems like a lot of things were put on hold.
2:01:03
[UNKNOWN]: Like there's was being authority, something there was supposed to be.
2:01:06
[UNKNOWN]: No, I think the authority is, is acts.
2:01:09
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:01:10
[UNKNOWN]: We're not doing it.
2:01:11
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
2:01:11
[UNKNOWN]: It's not at all.
2:01:13
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, not at all.
2:01:15
[UNKNOWN]: And then there was also like I was always excited about swamp thing with James mangled and that seems to be I think that one still happening.
2:01:21
[UNKNOWN]: It's just like James mangled is doing other stuff first.
2:01:25
[UNKNOWN]: We will be getting a Batman.
2:01:28
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's from the other from the other universe, but I again, is it really another universe at this point?
2:01:35
[UNKNOWN]: At this point it is.
2:01:43
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know, man.
2:01:44
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
2:01:45
[UNKNOWN]: I think they're being way too, until they tell me they've cast another Batman.
2:01:51
[UNKNOWN]: I just, I don't believe it.
2:01:53
[UNKNOWN]: My no, it definitely was not James Gunn's plan.
2:01:56
[UNKNOWN]: For example, we can see the silhouette that he gave us a Batman and creature commandos is very not Robert Pattinson.
2:02:06
[UNKNOWN]: Yes, I did the Beyond Purvis.
2:02:11
[UNKNOWN]: I don't know.
2:02:12
[UNKNOWN]: I could also see possibly at some point.
2:02:14
[UNKNOWN]: He's like, you know what?
2:02:15
[UNKNOWN]: That's popular.
2:02:17
[UNKNOWN]: People get confused.
2:02:18
[UNKNOWN]: What if we just, you know, I really believe that will be the case.
2:02:26
[UNKNOWN]: I was really for the longest time I thought there's no way that's going to happen.
2:02:31
[UNKNOWN]: And at this point, I'd be like, I don't know.
2:02:33
[UNKNOWN]: I, I'm getting closer to 50, 50 on that on whether I think that's what's going to happen.
2:02:38
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:02:40
[UNKNOWN]: Who would see him when we find stuff out, we will share it with you guys.
2:02:44
[UNKNOWN]: And one last thing I think, I saw that boost of gold, which was also announced, has not been canceled.
2:02:53
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, wow, wow, wow.
2:02:56
[UNKNOWN]: That's bummer.
2:02:57
[UNKNOWN]: So we really have no idea what's going on with DCU.
2:03:01
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:03:01
[UNKNOWN]: At this point.
2:03:02
[UNKNOWN]: Well, hopefully lanterns gives more audiences are so fickle at the moment.
2:03:08
[UNKNOWN]: So I'm hoping lanterns brings people back because we were also excited after Superman.
2:03:13
[UNKNOWN]: And I don't think super girl, I don't think super girl is as good as Superman.
2:03:18
[UNKNOWN]: Obviously, you've heard me talking about it.
2:03:20
[UNKNOWN]: But I also don't think it's like, craving the Hunter or something.
2:03:28
[UNKNOWN]: That's a throw so many under the bus.
2:03:30
[UNKNOWN]: They did just get a lot of money to the bus.
2:03:33
[UNKNOWN]: They didn't even think it was terrible.
2:03:35
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, I was terrible.
2:03:37
[UNKNOWN]: What was that?
2:03:38
[UNKNOWN]: The one crazy, what, what, what, the other one before crazy?
2:03:41
[UNKNOWN]: Well, no, you're not going to speak ill of Morbius out here.
2:03:48
[UNKNOWN]: Except the black, that's lender.
2:03:51
[UNKNOWN]: I like Morbius, okay.
2:03:54
[UNKNOWN]: I don't understand.
2:04:01
[UNKNOWN]: And I understand why people don't like Jared let all say that, I'll say that part, but just from the film's perspective, yeah.
2:04:08
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:04:09
[UNKNOWN]: And you know who really doesn't like Jared that I'm James Gunn.
2:04:15
[UNKNOWN]: Sorry.
2:04:17
[UNKNOWN]: I feel less bad saying that after recent allegations, but what's up next for Marvel?
2:04:23
[UNKNOWN]: We've got more other than lanterns, it's going to be some Marvel stuff coming up.
2:04:27
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, we got a Spider-Man brand new day, which is out today.
2:04:31
[UNKNOWN]: First weekend, we'll both be seeing it and we'll be recorded.
2:04:35
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, that's our plan.
2:04:38
[UNKNOWN]: Um, X-Men, X-Men 97 season 2 will wrap up in another week and we will hopefully be doing a one shot.
2:04:48
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:04:49
[UNKNOWN]: Let's see.
2:04:49
[UNKNOWN]: Let's see.
2:04:49
[UNKNOWN]: And review of that.
2:04:53
[UNKNOWN]: What else is coming up?
2:04:54
[UNKNOWN]: VisionQuest.
2:04:55
[UNKNOWN]: VisionQuest is the next thing.
2:04:56
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:04:57
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:04:58
[UNKNOWN]: And, you know, this I will say this, bye.
2:05:02
[UNKNOWN]: I think this lanterns show is really important and that the time slot that it's given, it's a 9 p.m. time slot, prime time, prime time on Sundays.
2:05:20
[UNKNOWN]: I think this could be a really important show because this is the prestige hour and if
2:05:32
[UNKNOWN]: It makes it a lot more difficult for shows like one demand to get canceled.
2:05:38
[UNKNOWN]: One would like to think.
2:05:40
[UNKNOWN]: One would like to think.
2:05:41
[UNKNOWN]: But yeah, it needs there's
2:05:45
[UNKNOWN]: A lot of, especially, I notice like the bigger the studio, the smaller their guts, basically in a bad way, you know what I mean?
2:05:53
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, the less guts they have, and they need to see another project like that succeed before they're like, oh, there's an audience for this, of course there's an audience for this, there's an audience for Wonderman like you didn't even promote the thing and people still watched it and loved it.
2:06:09
[UNKNOWN]: You tried to bury that, and people still watch it and love it, you know, anyway.
2:06:13
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:06:13
[UNKNOWN]: So this, the lantern show is going to be really important to comic book stories.
2:06:19
[UNKNOWN]: If it does well, that I think, yeah, we could see hopefully some real change and what gets told how they get told, and when we get to see them.
2:06:35
[UNKNOWN]: So fingers are
2:06:39
[UNKNOWN]: And we want to hear your thoughts about this movie that we just talked about about all this the Comic Con news we talked about at the beginning all about all the stuff that's coming up, please send those thoughts to comics versus comics vs at thelorhounds dot com you'll find that linked in the show notes and you'll also find in the show notes a link tree with links to for example are discord where there's
2:07:03
[UNKNOWN]: D.C. Forum where we're chatting about all of this stuff and there will be, yeah, I guess it will be per episode chat for lanterns since we're doing weekly coverage.
2:07:15
[UNKNOWN]: Um, you also find in the link tree links to our affiliate podcasts, including my own will shift dust, which is currently busy with silo, uh, your caught up, or I don't know if you watch this week's yet, but I did, uh, I just started before we got on, I started just the part
2:07:34
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, oh, no, but I mean the the new one that came out yesterday on episode five.
2:07:40
[UNKNOWN]: I have not seen episode five.
2:07:42
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
2:07:42
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, I just started the bottom episode four.
2:07:46
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, but you saw.
2:07:47
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, we won't do the spoiler from episode four, but yeah, I saw your reaction to that.
2:07:51
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, God.
2:07:54
[UNKNOWN]: How lie.
2:07:56
[UNKNOWN]: More rocks call call.
2:07:58
[UNKNOWN]: We're with these dad, but I'm just more rock.
2:08:03
[UNKNOWN]: Why, why, why am I subjected to this sort of things?
2:08:08
[UNKNOWN]: That's where I wanted to.
2:08:11
[UNKNOWN]: Why did they make me go through these things?
2:08:16
[UNKNOWN]: So yeah, I think that silo season's heating up.
2:08:18
[UNKNOWN]: I'm excited to hear your thoughts on episode five because it picks right up from that.
2:08:22
[UNKNOWN]: And then explaining, okay.
2:08:24
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, it's like here's explanations about all the stuff that's been going on.
2:08:30
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, all right, I'm in terms of inside out 18.
2:08:34
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, this had me in down.
2:08:37
[UNKNOWN]: I've had me down bad the end of episode four and so season three for everyone who's listening I was down bad
2:08:51
[UNKNOWN]: Um, and yeah, also, you'll find in the affiliate links, uh, our newest, watch, there's two newest podcasts on the network.
2:08:59
[UNKNOWN]: We'll first, I want to shout out, never mind the music, where psychology meets music, weekly releases there.
2:09:04
[UNKNOWN]: Lots of great stuff recently.
2:09:06
[UNKNOWN]: Um, but there's two new podcasts on the network.
2:09:10
[UNKNOWN]: One is Dungeons & Do Rags, which is currently covering House of the Dragon.
2:09:13
[UNKNOWN]: And you and David joined for an episode with them.
2:09:16
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, we did.
2:09:16
[UNKNOWN]: We did.
2:09:17
[UNKNOWN]: That was fun a couple of weeks ago.
2:09:19
[UNKNOWN]: even much more chaotic energy.
2:09:20
[UNKNOWN]: Oh my gosh.
2:09:23
[UNKNOWN]: You call the chaos.
2:09:27
[UNKNOWN]: I got some other words.
2:09:31
[UNKNOWN]: but all in good fun though.
2:09:32
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, a lot of fun over there.
2:09:35
[UNKNOWN]: And then the day that we are recording this just launched the newest podcast on the network, Cosmere Corner from John and from Erin and Richard from Radioactive Ramlings.
2:09:48
[UNKNOWN]: And they are they're basically starting with the
2:09:58
[UNKNOWN]: universe, but they're starting with the first Missborn trilogy, which is what I've always had recommended to me as the way in.
2:10:04
[UNKNOWN]: So I'm going to be reading along with their coverage, and that's how I am finally getting into the Sanderson beyond his wheel of time books.
2:10:14
[UNKNOWN]: Nice, nice.
2:10:16
[UNKNOWN]: So definitely check that out.
2:10:17
[UNKNOWN]: That's both Dungeons & Do Rags and Cosmere Corner have video podcasts.
2:10:23
[UNKNOWN]: So the first of those in our network.
2:10:25
[UNKNOWN]: So you can also find them on YouTube if you want to physically watch them.
2:10:29
[UNKNOWN]: And like and subscribe.
2:10:31
[UNKNOWN]: And like and subscribe.
2:10:32
[UNKNOWN]: If you choose to do so.
2:10:33
[UNKNOWN]: And you can also find them more of you listen to audio podcasts there as well.
2:10:38
[UNKNOWN]: What else we got going on on the lower-down speed?
2:10:42
[UNKNOWN]: Um, you just finished the vampire list that you actually, yeah, there's one more episode coming out.
2:10:47
[UNKNOWN]: There's a scene where we had Mark from never mind the music.
2:10:51
[UNKNOWN]: Um, it's so it's a musical season because it let's stop, becomes a rock star as he does in the book.
2:10:58
[UNKNOWN]: And so Mark, John and I did a sort of, we gave our season superlatives with a lot of focus on the songs of the season with on the music itself, a lot of music clips and stuff like that.
2:11:09
[UNKNOWN]: So that will be coming out after this.
2:11:14
[UNKNOWN]: I need to edit them both and I have to, this one's going to be an easier edit.
2:11:18
[UNKNOWN]: It's probably just only my first.
2:11:20
[UNKNOWN]: Can I listen to that without the season being spoiled?
2:11:25
[UNKNOWN]: No, it's full spoiled looking for the season.
2:11:27
[UNKNOWN]: Okay, I know.
2:11:27
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so catch up on it's season three of interview the vampire is the vampire of the staff for anyone who's confused about that.
2:11:34
[UNKNOWN]: They changed the title for season three and then they're changing the title again for season four which it's Queen of the Damned because that's the name of the next book that they're covering.
2:11:45
[UNKNOWN]: And Akasha is
2:11:47
[UNKNOWN]: She'll be unleashed because she is the answer.
2:11:51
[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
2:11:52
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, right.
2:11:55
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:11:55
[UNKNOWN]: And how's it the dragon you guys are keeping busy with that?
2:11:59
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
2:12:00
[UNKNOWN]: We just dropped the feedback episode today.
2:12:03
[UNKNOWN]: Thanks for today.
2:12:04
[UNKNOWN]: Thanks for editing it.
2:12:06
[UNKNOWN]: And yeah, we'll be back next week.
2:12:08
[UNKNOWN]: Yeah, so you guys have been doing two episodes a week.
2:12:10
[UNKNOWN]: The, yeah, we've been doing and the feedback.
2:12:13
[UNKNOWN]: The breakdown and the feedback because you know, we like to talk.
2:12:16
[UNKNOWN]: Oh, yeah.
2:12:17
[UNKNOWN]: Well, there's been so much like a lot of academic input to you know, with like Nate from the military side, Maryland from the historical side.
2:12:25
[UNKNOWN]: Lots of, I think it's been a fun season to talk about because there are so many different points of views.
2:12:32
[UNKNOWN]: the different characters and it's just been really, it's been really a joyous occasion to watch everyone just delve into this season of viewing.
2:12:46
[UNKNOWN]: And also, can never ever ever forget.
2:12:51
[UNKNOWN]: To the guts one to the face.
2:12:55
[UNKNOWN]: We won't explain that for
2:13:00
[UNKNOWN]: if you know you know if you know if you know if you are enjoying these are any of our podcasts the best thing you can do to help us is to share just share it with other people who think will be interested in the topic that we're covering or should be interested or just want to hang out with us as we talk about our favorite shows and movies and books.
2:13:24
[UNKNOWN]: Nice reviews.
2:13:25
