- 1:40Speaker 4: NFLPA house at the Super Bowl.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 4: We are having a legendary run conversations and this will
- 1:49Speaker 4: live up to it.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I'm sure this has been fun.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Kaleis Campbell, the you, the you, legendary you.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Well yeah, well yeah it's.
- 2:00Speaker 6: My fifteen you. Oh I was there for my four.
- 2:04Speaker 6: I was an ahead.
- 2:05Speaker 5: Draft, so oh four okay, because that was I said,
- 2:07Speaker 5: I mean, the greatest college team of all time.
- 2:10Speaker 6: I hate that old oh one was different, and I
- 2:15Speaker 6: appreciate some teams that came after that. There are some
- 2:17Speaker 6: teams that were really talented after that. Yeah them still
- 2:20Speaker 6: them boys are different. Hall of famers.
- 2:21Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, fifteen years in the NFL, that's almost impossible. Fact,
- 2:29Speaker 4: that's the average playing career is three years. So fifteen
- 2:33Speaker 4: years is like you're like Lebron at this point.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Like a certified legend. Certified legend.
- 2:39Speaker 6: I say, you know, it's not easy, but you know,
- 2:42Speaker 6: I mean, there's a few of the grace have done it.
- 2:43Speaker 6: You know, I track, you know, Bruce Smith nineteen years,
- 2:46Speaker 6: Juonice Tepper seventeen years. You know what I mean. You know,
- 2:48Speaker 6: I don't know how many. You know, this might be it,
- 2:50Speaker 6: but I might play one more, you know, who knows,
- 2:52Speaker 6: We'll see. But you know, I mean, you know he
- 2:55Speaker 6: loved the game. Just playing football is it? You know.
- 2:57Speaker 4: And you're heavily evolved in the NFL Executive Committee. You
- 3:01Speaker 4: was on twenty twenty named and then you are a
- 3:05Speaker 4: philanthropists as well. We talk about your foundation, and you
- 3:07Speaker 4: know you were the Walter Payton Man of the Year.
- 3:12Speaker 4: That's that's an impressive awardment. Yes, yes, yes, so allowed
- 3:16Speaker 4: to talk about but first and foremost, thank you for
- 3:19Speaker 4: joining us. Appreciate it. Yes, yes, so all right, let's
- 3:23Speaker 4: talk about I want to talk about the business and
- 3:25Speaker 4: all that, but let's talk about football. To have the
- 3:28Speaker 4: longevity of playing fifteen years, it's not done by accident, right,
- 3:32Speaker 4: So referencing Lebron, it's well documented he spends a million
- 3:38Speaker 4: dollars a year on his body, and everybody that plays
- 3:40Speaker 4: with him as always said that. Even I know people
- 3:44Speaker 4: that knew him in aau when they was like he
- 3:46Speaker 4: was eating fruits and all that when he was in
- 3:48Speaker 4: high school, Like, take care of your body. You have
- 3:51Speaker 4: to live a certain lifestyle. You have to have discipline
- 3:53Speaker 4: to last this long. So can you talk about that,
- 3:56Speaker 4: like what has been the keys to your longevity?
- 4:00Speaker 6: Yeah, so you know, I'm not spending a million dollars
- 4:02Speaker 6: like Lebron, pretty penny, though I still I budget this year.
- 4:06Speaker 6: I have budget at three hundred thousand for my backroom,
- 4:08Speaker 6: you know, and that's just trying to fly in the
- 4:10Speaker 6: best you know, and people that I just know who
- 4:12Speaker 6: have experienced on a body coming to make sure that
- 4:14Speaker 6: I can get my full value. And a lot of
- 4:17Speaker 6: times I tell these young bucks to invest in your
- 4:19Speaker 6: you know, in your future. So you know, I mean
- 4:20Speaker 6: that's as well as business, but in football future, like
- 4:23Speaker 6: you know, I mean, you know, the salary cap is
- 4:25Speaker 6: going up every year has you know, consistently perception of COVID,
- 4:28Speaker 6: and they got to give that money to somebody. They
- 4:30Speaker 6: got to pay what you know, pretty much eighty nine
- 4:32Speaker 6: percent of the salary cap has to go out and
- 4:35Speaker 6: cash every year. And so for me, it's like, man,
- 4:38Speaker 6: if they got all this money out there, they have
- 4:39Speaker 6: to get to somebody. And you mean to tell me
- 4:41Speaker 6: that if I can make extra five six plays a year,
- 4:44Speaker 6: it's going to affect my my my value tremendously. Then
- 4:48Speaker 6: for me, like I'm not gonna I'm gonna turn over
- 4:50Speaker 6: every stone. I'm gonna make sure that I you know,
- 4:53Speaker 6: I'm getting you know, the proper nutrition, I'm getting the
- 4:56Speaker 6: proper body work, I'm getting the proper sleep. I'm using
- 4:58Speaker 6: the proper machines to help me re you know, from
- 5:01Speaker 6: you know, the Harberberry Chamber, normal attack boots, and you know,
- 5:04Speaker 6: I mean all the different things that exist out there.
- 5:06Speaker 6: I got a you know, art machine make sure like
- 5:08Speaker 6: you help get back from injuries faster. And I got
- 5:10Speaker 6: people who are very qualified and talented to come through
- 5:12Speaker 6: and really work with my body because if I can
- 5:14Speaker 6: make the extra few plays, you know, for me, now
- 5:16Speaker 6: it's just i can add another year of football, which
- 5:18Speaker 6: is another year earning potential that I can't get in
- 5:21Speaker 6: the regular world easily.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Yeah, you know.
- 5:24Speaker 6: And so for me, like if I can play, if
- 5:25Speaker 6: I can add another year, I think my contract that
- 5:28Speaker 6: stures going to be six point five million dollars, of
- 5:30Speaker 6: course are hundred thousand dollars is worth it if my
- 5:32Speaker 6: investor round thousand dollars to be able to play one
- 5:33Speaker 6: more year and get six you know, six five, you know,
- 5:36Speaker 6: that's easy, you know. And for these young guys, I'm like, yo, okay,
- 5:38Speaker 6: it goes eat the second contract. But the biggest thing
- 5:40Speaker 6: is just you know, just add and plays, adding production
- 5:43Speaker 6: and not as a groscial value. So you know, I
- 5:46Speaker 6: mean my routine, you know I'm I mean is brutal.
- 5:49Speaker 6: It's more about for me, it's more about the time
- 5:51Speaker 6: away from my family that it takes for me to
- 5:52Speaker 6: go out and do it again. That's why I hesitate,
- 5:55Speaker 6: maybe if I was a play again or not, but
- 5:56Speaker 6: I'm leaning towards playing again. But it's just the time
- 6:00Speaker 6: and that goes into it because a lot of times
- 6:01Speaker 6: like it's the money, but it's also like I got
- 6:03Speaker 6: spend two hours you know with ma missos theropists two
- 6:06Speaker 6: hours with my hour and a half of my needle guy,
- 6:09Speaker 6: you know, you know, cupping and everything else. So just
- 6:12Speaker 6: it's about it.
- 6:12Speaker 5: That's you know, I ever thought about that, and people
- 6:15Speaker 5: probably don't think about it, right the average fan, like
- 6:17Speaker 5: you mentioned, making a few more plays, and so the
- 6:21Speaker 5: importance of you know, pressuring the quarterback to having three
- 6:25Speaker 5: or four more sacks, having a couple of forced fumbles
- 6:28Speaker 5: when you're negotiating your contract, right huge, That can separate
- 6:33Speaker 5: like you from making six and a half million years
- 6:36Speaker 5: and being like, yo, you might be cut, right.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Can you?
- 6:39Speaker 5: Can you talk about having those types of statistics and
- 6:42Speaker 5: all the specific numbers that I guess at your position
- 6:45Speaker 5: on the D line, is there a number that you
- 6:47Speaker 5: should be getting to, right, Because people look at Aaron
- 6:49Speaker 5: Aaron doddle on to be like, oh he's the greatest,
- 6:51Speaker 5: but yeah he's disruptive, but some of his things don't
- 6:53Speaker 5: go on stat line.
- 6:54Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yeah, you know, And I think that's a
- 6:56Speaker 6: big part of it is you want to be just
- 6:57Speaker 6: consistent across the board, you know, consistency, you know, it
- 7:00Speaker 6: shows that cultures can count on you. But if you
- 7:02Speaker 6: go from like just like a standpoint of like value,
- 7:04Speaker 6: you know, like I mean, it's like the housing market.
- 7:06Speaker 6: You know, whatever the person made that summer production year before.
- 7:09Speaker 6: It's kind of your floor for what you're gonna get,
- 7:11Speaker 6: you know, when you're start trying to be a free agent.
- 7:14Speaker 6: And so like you know, if I'm a d lineman,
- 7:16Speaker 6: you know, I go back to my actual experience, you know.
- 7:18Speaker 6: So you know, I'm you know, twenty eleven. It's going
- 7:22Speaker 6: to my contract here, and like you know, there wasn't
- 7:24Speaker 6: like back then, there wasn't a lot of interior rushers
- 7:26Speaker 6: getting ten sacks, you know, if you can get six
- 7:29Speaker 6: a lot seven eight sacks, you know, I mean that
- 7:32Speaker 6: was that was the high number for the interior guys.
- 7:34Speaker 6: Aaron Donald, J. J. Watt. They came through and and
- 7:36Speaker 6: Jeni's more outside, but he plays a little interior too.
- 7:38Speaker 6: They came through a change again, you know, Chris Jones.
- 7:40Speaker 6: I mean, this stuff is way different now, but the
- 7:42Speaker 6: game is changed to back then it was little more
- 7:43Speaker 6: of a running game too. Still, but you know, I mean,
- 7:47Speaker 6: so the number was, you know, if you can get
- 7:48Speaker 6: to eight sacks, you know, I mean, you were a
- 7:50Speaker 6: premier pass rusher inside and so you know my mindset
- 7:53Speaker 6: was like cool, like you know, my production level, my
- 7:56Speaker 6: contract here, I got eight sacks, I had the block kicks,
- 7:58Speaker 6: I had you know, added you know, differ ways of value,
- 8:01Speaker 6: and you know, you look at what the what the
- 8:03Speaker 6: market was going for. You know, it was just like
- 8:05Speaker 6: you know, I mean if I would have been you know,
- 8:07Speaker 6: had my same you know statistics, but I'd only got
- 8:09Speaker 6: like three or four sacts, you know, would have had
- 8:11Speaker 6: a few less bad at balls or some kind of way.
- 8:13Speaker 6: I'm changing gang. You know, I'm going to the market
- 8:15Speaker 6: and they won't be like, okay, your production based off
- 8:17Speaker 6: what other guys are getting. That's like you know two
- 8:19Speaker 6: three million dollars a year versus eleven million dollar a
- 8:22Speaker 6: year right end up getting, you know, which is like
- 8:23Speaker 6: crazy because the difference between those four or five plays
- 8:27Speaker 6: is the difference between you know eight nine million dollars
- 8:29Speaker 6: a year, which you know over time is human.
- 8:32Speaker 4: So you said three hundred thousand for your body? Can
- 8:35Speaker 4: you just break that down? Like what does that include?
- 8:37Speaker 4: A nutrition? Is a personal training, a massage person like
- 8:40Speaker 4: what said.
- 8:41Speaker 6: Between a chef? You know, I do an ankle specialist
- 8:46Speaker 6: that comes up and just works out of my ankles
- 8:48Speaker 6: and knees and hips, but really ankles as where I
- 8:50Speaker 6: really feel the difference. I have a massage lady that
- 8:54Speaker 6: comes in like actually is there. I get five massages
- 8:57Speaker 6: a week from her weekly and I give her a
- 9:00Speaker 6: salary for being up there for the whole year with me,
- 9:02Speaker 6: and then I fire. But I said, I got a
- 9:04Speaker 6: guy who comes in. He's a body specialist by using
- 9:06Speaker 6: needles and then the fat something to bother me, you know,
- 9:08Speaker 6: he does the tissue as well, but so from a
- 9:11Speaker 6: chef from my misoge therapist, and then finding specialists whenever
- 9:16Speaker 6: I need them for different things, which I have people coming.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Regularly on and then personal training I.
- 9:22Speaker 6: Don't live in fact, they're in the personal training off
- 9:24Speaker 6: season in that number, you know, so that's temperate, but
- 9:26Speaker 6: the personal training offseason, you know, and then you know
- 9:28Speaker 6: the like that you know, because I will I'll spend
- 9:31Speaker 6: part of the year training in Phoenix, part of your
- 9:35Speaker 6: training in uh in Thousand Oaks in California, and then
- 9:38Speaker 6: I'm on my own when I'm in Miami and stuff,
- 9:40Speaker 6: so like you know the way it goes like that's
- 9:42Speaker 6: a whole different bucket of resources. But yeah, overall, you know,
- 9:45Speaker 6: now I gotta run the numbers. I think last year
- 9:48Speaker 6: what I ended up spending was like two O five.
- 9:50Speaker 6: This year's middle more than that. But it's still like,
- 9:53Speaker 6: you know, it's just budgeted. You know, it's just where
- 9:55Speaker 6: I'm gonna be at. But I mean, you know, honestly,
- 9:56Speaker 6: to spend that much money is you just only because
- 9:59Speaker 6: you're getting the best of the best and you had
- 10:00Speaker 6: to compensate them from being out there and takeing time
- 10:02Speaker 6: from other people that can make money from if you're
- 10:04Speaker 6: just doing local people, like if I'm a young guy,
- 10:05Speaker 6: you know, you don't have to spend twenty thousand. You
- 10:07Speaker 6: just gotta get you gotta fire the people that work
- 10:09Speaker 6: for you. You know, I just know who works with me.
- 10:10Speaker 6: But that's that's when it comes up to a higher number.
- 10:12Speaker 5: At what point did you get to that that number
- 10:15Speaker 5: and saying I need to focus on getting my body
- 10:17Speaker 5: right making sure. Was it like maybe after an injury
- 10:20Speaker 5: or were you hit a number in your career and
- 10:22Speaker 5: said all right, let me take this a little bit
- 10:24Speaker 5: more serious.
- 10:24Speaker 6: Yeah, n So it gradually built, you know, I mean, honestly,
- 10:27Speaker 6: I did minimal body work till about year seven. You know,
- 10:30Speaker 6: I tell you guys this all the time. I wish
- 10:32Speaker 6: I did earlier, but I did tell you I didn't
- 10:34Speaker 6: do nothing until about your seven. But I didn't really
- 10:36Speaker 6: need too much because I, you know, I was a
- 10:37Speaker 6: freak athlete and so I had you know, you know,
- 10:39Speaker 6: the ability to go out there. And I was very
- 10:41Speaker 6: blessed too, like just I never had that like really
- 10:44Speaker 6: crazy serious injuries. I've been very very fortunate, and so
- 10:47Speaker 6: you know. But after, you know, year seven came around
- 10:50Speaker 6: and I started filming just a little bit different, and
- 10:51Speaker 6: I'm like, I wanted to like, you know, I was
- 10:54Speaker 6: playing like really good ball, but I wasn't a pro
- 10:55Speaker 6: bowler yet. I didn't get the All pros yet, and
- 10:57Speaker 6: I feel like I was like, you know, just a
- 10:59Speaker 6: step below those guys. And so I was like, let
- 11:01Speaker 6: me get more serious about this, so not only do
- 11:03Speaker 6: I improve on my taking my body, but also approved
- 11:05Speaker 6: of my training and everything else. I mean, I really
- 11:07Speaker 6: went to like being a guy that worked harder to
- 11:09Speaker 6: being an NFL to trying to outwork everybody in the NFL,
- 11:11Speaker 6: and that really took the chance of my whole career.
- 11:13Speaker 6: And I had the best success, you know, from your
- 11:15Speaker 6: seven on. You know, I mean, I guess it depends
- 11:18Speaker 6: on what metrics shows, but there's a lot of metrics
- 11:20Speaker 6: that it will show you that that was from like
- 11:21Speaker 6: year seven to year like thirteen, that little, you know,
- 11:25Speaker 6: six year stretch. I was, I was a bad man,
- 11:27Speaker 6: you know, true, but each year I have to add
- 11:31Speaker 6: so I you know, I mean I never spent you know,
- 11:34Speaker 6: the twenty thousands of my body until like last year
- 11:36Speaker 6: was the first time getting over that threshold, and then
- 11:38Speaker 6: a year before last, and then this last season. You know,
- 11:41Speaker 6: I budgeted for throughout it, but I don't think I
- 11:43Speaker 6: got to high. You know, but before then, you know,
- 11:46Speaker 6: you know, it was probably like, you know, fifty, Then
- 11:48Speaker 6: it was like seventy five, and there was like one hundred,
- 11:50Speaker 6: and it just kind of gradually built up each year.
- 11:53Speaker 6: But each year also needed more body work because I'm
- 11:54Speaker 6: yo to play and be successful and have a you know,
- 11:57Speaker 6: impact on the game. You know, I got to be
- 11:59Speaker 6: a I got to field stir kind of a way,
- 12:00Speaker 6: and like, you know, as I got them thirty six
- 12:02Speaker 6: this year, I just played that. I mean, if I played connect,
- 12:04Speaker 6: I'll be thirty seven. Like your body feels a little
- 12:06Speaker 6: different then when I was twenty seven, hours out there.
- 12:08Speaker 6: I could go out there and just you know, I
- 12:09Speaker 6: can you know, I could go out and party Friday night,
- 12:12Speaker 6: wouldn't feel a thing, go out there and dominate on Sunday. Now,
- 12:14Speaker 6: like everything, I have to get my sleep, you know,
- 12:16Speaker 6: full eight hours, like I gotta. You know, I'm eating
- 12:18Speaker 6: super healthy. I'm drinking you know, two gallons of water
- 12:21Speaker 6: every day and I'm you know, put my electro lights
- 12:23Speaker 6: in it. And I'm like it's just it's a way
- 12:25Speaker 6: different mentality, but my body needs that now. You know,
- 12:28Speaker 6: I can't go out and perform at a high level,
- 12:30Speaker 6: you know what I used to do when I was
- 12:31Speaker 6: a kid.
- 12:31Speaker 4: So you talk about, you know, you're an executive committee
- 12:36Speaker 4: on nfl PA, right, what does that mean and what
- 12:40Speaker 4: is your experience with the nfl PA Because we spoke
- 12:43Speaker 4: to d Smith earlier today, so he's in leadership position,
- 12:47Speaker 4: but you're a player, So I would like to to
- 12:51Speaker 4: get your insight on the nfl PA.
- 12:54Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, no pressure, man, I'm gonna keep it
- 12:58Speaker 6: real all the time, you know. So you know, I
- 13:03Speaker 6: joined the PA because people kept coming to me like,
- 13:07Speaker 6: hey man, you should be in the PA, you know,
- 13:08Speaker 6: and like, you know, really just as a rep for
- 13:10Speaker 6: the team. I kept getting pushed, Yo, you should be
- 13:13Speaker 6: a rep. You should be a rep, because I mean,
- 13:14Speaker 6: guys knew I just cared. I'm always trying to share
- 13:16Speaker 6: knowledge and talk to guys, help guys through things. So
- 13:18Speaker 6: they was like, man, you should be a rep. Excuse me. So,
- 13:23Speaker 6: you know, eventually I was like all right, cool, because
- 13:26Speaker 6: I mean I kind of shot away from it because
- 13:27Speaker 6: I knew it was extra work and I was like,
- 13:28Speaker 6: and I'm trying to hang out, have a good time.
- 13:30Speaker 6: You know, then you already got so much time dedicating
- 13:33Speaker 6: to playing good football. But then you know, you know,
- 13:36Speaker 6: I would always complain about little things here and there,
- 13:38Speaker 6: like everybody else does. And then one day, you know,
- 13:41Speaker 6: I finally showed up and was like, Okay, I'm gonna
- 13:43Speaker 6: go to the rep meetings. I'm gonna go check it out.
- 13:45Speaker 6: I'll be the rep, you know, and they voted me in.
- 13:48Speaker 6: And when I got there, I was like, MA should
- 13:49Speaker 6: have been coming. I wish I came here the whole
- 13:51Speaker 6: time because this is where, you know, where progress is made.
- 13:53Speaker 6: And so, you know, I mean, the way the union
- 13:56Speaker 6: works is like it's just the players. You know, we
- 13:58Speaker 6: have thirty two reps, you know, a very high turnover,
- 14:01Speaker 6: so it's not like other unions where you get people
- 14:04Speaker 6: in the position for a long time and be able
- 14:05Speaker 6: to build the experience to be able to like, you know,
- 14:08Speaker 6: know better, you know, and so it's kind of hard
- 14:10Speaker 6: because you have so many so much job turnover and
- 14:12Speaker 6: so many new reps coming in. You're alway trying to
- 14:14Speaker 6: educate people, so it's really tough. So I was like,
- 14:16Speaker 6: you know, we need more star players who are going
- 14:18Speaker 6: to have like longevity and guys who are gonna, you know,
- 14:20Speaker 6: be able to be around for a long time.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Uh.
- 14:23Speaker 6: And I'm with that team, not just in the NFL,
- 14:25Speaker 6: but with a particular team so they can actually get
- 14:27Speaker 6: some progress made. So I was like, you know, as
- 14:30Speaker 6: a as a player, I knew where you know, like
- 14:31Speaker 6: you know where my where I was at in the NFL.
- 14:33Speaker 6: So I was like, I need to be more involved.
- 14:35Speaker 6: So I started to get more involved, and uh, I
- 14:37Speaker 6: was a rep for a few years and then some
- 14:39Speaker 6: people kept telling me like, hey, you should join the
- 14:41Speaker 6: EAC because I'm in the meet and ask the questions,
- 14:42Speaker 6: just trying to get a filter things. And I joined
- 14:45Speaker 6: the e C and like my role in ec really
- 14:47Speaker 6: is just to try to you know, I mean, you know,
- 14:50Speaker 6: we have our creed about you know, protecting what we've
- 14:53Speaker 6: already come from, all the people that can be for us,
- 14:55Speaker 6: you know, maximizing our value now and then even a
- 14:58Speaker 6: better tomorrow for the guys that after us, you know.
- 15:01Speaker 6: And you know, my mindset is is like okay, like
- 15:04Speaker 6: I ain't with a worried about me. I'm not worried
- 15:06Speaker 6: about what we got going on right now. I'm trying
- 15:08Speaker 6: to make you know, the NFL better for the people
- 15:10Speaker 6: to come after us, and leading games stronger than than
- 15:12Speaker 6: when I came into it. And so you know, I
- 15:15Speaker 6: mean you think about, you know, just the trajectory we've had,
- 15:17Speaker 6: and like you know, guys are going to complan all
- 15:19Speaker 6: the time. You know, you get you know, into the
- 15:20Speaker 6: locker rooms, and a lot of times when guys can play,
- 15:22Speaker 6: it's really because they're misinformed. You know, they don't really
- 15:24Speaker 6: have all the knowledge. Once you break it down to them,
- 15:26Speaker 6: give them the knowledge, you know, then they're like, oh
- 15:28Speaker 6: it makes sense. So it really it comes down to
- 15:29Speaker 6: like just you know, communication and making sure we educate
- 15:32Speaker 6: our youth on like you know, just the history of
- 15:34Speaker 6: the union, and you know where we cooming, you know,
- 15:37Speaker 6: where we're trying to go and stuff like that, you know,
- 15:39Speaker 6: and guys, you know, we talk about like, you know,
- 15:40Speaker 6: trying to improve our medical benefits for the longer, for
- 15:43Speaker 6: longer time because right now we only get five years
- 15:46Speaker 6: of medical insurances that we're not playing and then after
- 15:48Speaker 6: that you have an HRA when you can purchase more.
- 15:51Speaker 6: But everybody's you know, it's going to be different. You know,
- 15:53Speaker 6: we talk about approving you know, you know, uh uh
- 15:59Speaker 6: so lifetime medical or longer medical history.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Uh.
- 16:03Speaker 6: I mean, I've lost my trying to think on where
- 16:04Speaker 6: I was going next. But either way it goes. There's
- 16:06Speaker 6: a lot of things in the union that you know,
- 16:08Speaker 6: we're trying to get done, and it's like, you know,
- 16:10Speaker 6: the biggest thing is like I'll see my guaranteed contracts,
- 16:12Speaker 6: But the biggest thing is like, you know, it really
- 16:14Speaker 6: comes down to us coming together, communicating and putting together
- 16:17Speaker 6: plan and they're executing it and that comes of leadership.
- 16:19Speaker 6: And so I was like, I'm gonna take a leadership
- 16:21Speaker 6: role and I'm gonna try to make sure that we
- 16:23Speaker 6: you know, just put us off in a position to
- 16:25Speaker 6: be stronger. And so like you think about the NFL
- 16:27Speaker 6: as I mean, the NFLPA is a business, and like
- 16:30Speaker 6: you think about like you know, we're a union, but
- 16:31Speaker 6: we're also a business. And like I mean, I don't
- 16:33Speaker 6: know how many unions. I don't know like a lot
- 16:35Speaker 6: about other unions. D Smith comes on and we talk
- 16:37Speaker 6: a lot, you know, he kind of educates me a
- 16:38Speaker 6: lot of other unions and stuff. But I mean we have,
- 16:41Speaker 6: you know, from our dues and everything else we have.
- 16:44Speaker 6: We're building all our company, you know, then you get
- 16:46Speaker 6: a licensing and everything else, and the way that's growing,
- 16:48Speaker 6: and we're partnership making partnerships to other unions and creating
- 16:51Speaker 6: that one team. Uh, you know, then we have you know,
- 16:53Speaker 6: the like the one thing about the NFL PA is
- 16:56Speaker 6: that every player that comes to an NFL will be
- 16:58Speaker 6: a retired player. And so we really took upon ourselves
- 17:01Speaker 6: to make sure that we also helped, you know, the
- 17:04Speaker 6: guys who after getting too retirement stuff. So we have
- 17:06Speaker 6: our trust and we have so many other things that
- 17:07Speaker 6: we do, but the biggest thing was just like getting
- 17:09Speaker 6: informed and then trying to share that information because we
- 17:11Speaker 6: do a lot of things. I mean, the NFL, you know,
- 17:13Speaker 6: and the thing I'm pushing the most right now is
- 17:15Speaker 6: financial literacy, which was awesome to see you guys here
- 17:18Speaker 6: because like when I first got to lead the financial
- 17:20Speaker 6: literacy program was trash. I mean I'm talking about man like,
- 17:24Speaker 6: I'm like, man, I ain't really helped me with nothing.
- 17:26Speaker 6: Y't giving me basic stuff like how to balance a
- 17:28Speaker 6: check but you know I ain't probably using no check book.
- 17:31Speaker 6: You know it's two thousand, you know, two thousand and eight,
- 17:33Speaker 6: twousand and nine. And but but to the to the
- 17:37Speaker 6: Union's you know, strength is that like okay, I mean
- 17:40Speaker 6: we understood the times of changing, and like, you know,
- 17:42Speaker 6: I just went to the leadership summit a couple of
- 17:44Speaker 6: weeks back, and I saw, you know, we had you know,
- 17:49Speaker 6: actual real lessons people coming in and teaching about you know,
- 17:51Speaker 6: about you know, business and about like how different the
- 17:55Speaker 6: different growth vehicles had exist for for for money and
- 17:59Speaker 6: just like all the from just the different sectors in finance.
- 18:02Speaker 6: And it was like, man like, this is the you
- 18:04Speaker 6: know that I should have learned at an earlier age.
- 18:06Speaker 6: And I'm glad that young guys are finally getting and
- 18:08Speaker 6: I know it's bigger than one you know, you know,
- 18:10Speaker 6: one meeting in one conference. We need consistency. That's why
- 18:12Speaker 6: I love what you guys are doing putting out there consistently.
- 18:15Speaker 6: But I think, you know, like my biggest you know,
- 18:17Speaker 6: like I guess, uh, my biggest goal with the PA
- 18:21Speaker 6: is for us to arm the membership with the tools
- 18:26Speaker 6: to be able to create a better future for their
- 18:28Speaker 6: families and everything else. So like when I see guys
- 18:30Speaker 6: in financial distress, it breaks my heart because you know,
- 18:33Speaker 6: it just as to be able to make it in
- 18:34Speaker 6: this lead and be able to make a bunch of
- 18:36Speaker 6: money in this lead, and you've got to hold on
- 18:37Speaker 6: to your paper, and so it really is just a
- 18:40Speaker 6: fool like, you know, like the PA, we do a
- 18:43Speaker 6: lot of stuff and we make sure that you know,
- 18:44Speaker 6: the whole thing is about keeping all of us stronger,
- 18:46Speaker 6: and I think the financial literacy about you know, just
- 18:49Speaker 6: making sure that we are all in the great position
- 18:51Speaker 6: allows us to be more aggressive and when we're pursuing
- 18:54Speaker 6: with our partnership with the NFL, because I mean, at
- 18:55Speaker 6: the end of the day, it's a partnership NFL, NFL
- 18:58Speaker 6: PA together, you know, we credit a great product that
- 19:01Speaker 6: is probably the best product on TV. I mean, I
- 19:03Speaker 6: think every year we're like the top fifty forty five
- 19:05Speaker 6: of the top fifty.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Shows, eighty five out of one hundred.
- 19:07Speaker 6: Yeah, eighty five hundred. Yeah, it's a great partnership, you know.
- 19:12Speaker 6: But the thing that I tried to push you a
- 19:14Speaker 6: lot is making sure that the stronger we are as
- 19:18Speaker 6: a membership. You know, we can make sure you know,
- 19:20Speaker 6: Like I mean, I don't know if you remember the
- 19:21Speaker 6: lockout and the strikes all differ. We talk about a
- 19:23Speaker 6: lot of things. It's like, but until we can all
- 19:25Speaker 6: come together and have a position where we can sit
- 19:27Speaker 6: from power, you know, that's what we're gonna be the
- 19:29Speaker 6: strongest to get whatever we want.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:31Speaker 5: So your financial education, because it sounds like you take
- 19:34Speaker 5: me as a very inquisitive person, wanted to know when
- 19:37Speaker 5: when did your financial education begin or did you come
- 19:41Speaker 5: into the league with knowledge?
- 19:42Speaker 3: Right, because you had so.
- 19:44Speaker 5: Like this is one of those When I just heard
- 19:46Speaker 5: you say that that it was trash, my first thought
- 19:49Speaker 5: was like, is this intentional?
- 19:50Speaker 3: Right?
- 19:50Speaker 5: Because if I don't educate you, then I can always
- 19:52Speaker 5: use you as my customer right until you become educated.
- 19:55Speaker 5: And now you might see less people getting agents or
- 19:58Speaker 5: less people's in the direction that somebody's pointing to him,
- 20:01Speaker 5: so they don't get taken advantage of. And so did
- 20:04Speaker 5: you have to go through things to get your financial education?
- 20:08Speaker 6: I mean there's a process for sure, you know. I mean,
- 20:10Speaker 6: I mean my dad was was was like he was
- 20:14Speaker 6: in caountant for he worked for RS for a period
- 20:16Speaker 6: of time, but you know, I mean he was He
- 20:19Speaker 6: did a lot of different things. He was in the
- 20:20Speaker 6: computers and stuff. But one thing he did try to
- 20:22Speaker 6: do is start businesses. He taught us a lot about sales,
- 20:25Speaker 6: but he didn't really teach us about business as a whole,
- 20:27Speaker 6: you know. And you know, he passed away while I
- 20:30Speaker 6: was seventeen, And you know, I wish I could have
- 20:32Speaker 6: probably picked his brand a little bit more because I
- 20:33Speaker 6: fel like that loves knowledge, very smart, very smart guy earners.
- 20:36Speaker 3: What's going on?
- 20:37Speaker 5: Listen, eylu is relaunching, revamping, retooling. That's why we're creating
- 20:42Speaker 5: a new educational experience that's more expensive.

- 23:22Speaker 1: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 23:25Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 23:30Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas man of Venezuelan charged with
- 23:34Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 23:38Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 23:42Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy nom the United States
- 23:45Speaker 1: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 23:50Speaker 1: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 23:54Speaker 1: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 23:57Speaker 1: were here illegally, your next you will be fine nearly
- 24:01Speaker 1: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned and deported, you will
- 24:05Speaker 1: never return.
- 24:06Speaker 4: But if you.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Register using our CBP home app and leave now, you
- 24:10Speaker 1: could be allowed to return legally. Do what's right. Leave now.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Under President Trump, America's laws order and families.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Will be protected sponsored by the United States Department of
- 24:21Speaker 2: Homeland Security.
- 24:23Speaker 6: But you know, when I got to the NFL, you know,
- 24:25Speaker 6: I mean, I mean pretty much like I mean, you're
- 24:27Speaker 6: on your own, nobody's telling you anything, and like, you know,
- 24:29Speaker 6: the starts kind of like you pick a financial advisor
- 24:31Speaker 6: just because you're supposed to, just because that's what everybus
- 24:33Speaker 6: is doing. And you pick a guy based off of,
- 24:35Speaker 6: you know, just network, your network, you know. So my
- 24:38Speaker 6: network was University of Miami. I picked a guy because
- 24:40Speaker 6: of John Bison, you know, and he was a first
- 24:42Speaker 6: round picked year before, and he went through the process
- 24:44Speaker 6: I was getting ready to go through. So I asked him, like, yo,
- 24:45Speaker 6: who's your guy? And he told me his God, I
- 24:48Speaker 6: had all these people coming at me. They all sound
- 24:49Speaker 6: the same because I don't know anything, and so I
- 24:52Speaker 6: just hire his guy just because you know, he hired him,
- 24:54Speaker 6: you know. And it's kind of funny because, like I
- 24:55Speaker 6: remember having a conversation with him and I asked him, like,
- 24:57Speaker 6: what made you hire him in the first place? He said,
- 24:59Speaker 6: I hired him because I forgot what was But the
- 25:01Speaker 6: person that he knew.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Was Jonathan Vilma about you guys.
- 25:05Speaker 6: Yeah and whoever it was, yeah, and but it was
- 25:09Speaker 6: it's just you know, I asked him, like, did you
- 25:11Speaker 6: do any do diligence, Like what made you hire him?
- 25:13Speaker 6: He was like, nah, you know, and I was like,
- 25:15Speaker 6: why are you doing dogit? He threw like, we just
- 25:16Speaker 6: hired a guy just for the heck of it, you know. Now,
- 25:19Speaker 6: I mean that guy you know might be you know,
- 25:21Speaker 6: a really good guy. Uh you know, might have been
- 25:23Speaker 6: a really good guy, really good financial advisor, but at
- 25:26Speaker 6: the time I had no idea because I had no knowledge.
- 25:28Speaker 6: And I worked with him for a couple of years
- 25:29Speaker 6: and then he you know, he had a mistake that
- 25:31Speaker 6: you know, to me just was you couldn't have and
- 25:34Speaker 6: so I ended up, uh firing him and hiring somebody
- 25:36Speaker 6: else that was kind of a teacher to me. So
- 25:38Speaker 6: the person that I end up was, you know, he
- 25:40Speaker 6: tried to get my business, but I didn't go with
- 25:42Speaker 6: him originally, but he stayed around and like every time
- 25:45Speaker 6: I had questions with the other guy was doing another
- 25:46Speaker 6: guy kind of like he made it sound complicated, you know,
- 25:49Speaker 6: and I was like, you know, I'm trying to understand it,
- 25:51Speaker 6: so break it down for me. And then so, you know,
- 25:53Speaker 6: the other guy that I ended up signing with more recently,
- 25:55Speaker 6: and I've been with him the whole time since, he
- 25:57Speaker 6: started like making it breaking it down for me like this,
- 25:59Speaker 6: what this means, this that means you know, this is
- 26:01Speaker 6: why you do this, you know, and just started kind
- 26:02Speaker 6: of going to it and you know, I mean it
- 26:04Speaker 6: was just like, I mean, you know, so many different
- 26:06Speaker 6: sectors of it that I'm like, man, you know, I
- 26:08Speaker 6: you know, I mean, I want to know it. So,
- 26:10Speaker 6: you know, after a while, like he started making it
- 26:11Speaker 6: sound simple enough to me where I was like, Okay,
- 26:13Speaker 6: let me put some money with you, you know, and
- 26:15Speaker 6: then it was like, you know, let me put all
- 26:16Speaker 6: my money with you.
- 26:17Speaker 5: You know.
- 26:17Speaker 6: So it kind of went away. But it's kind of
- 26:19Speaker 6: funny though, because I won't say any names because the
- 26:21Speaker 6: guy originally went with, you know, he still has a
- 26:23Speaker 6: lot of guys out there, and I try to talk
- 26:25Speaker 6: to those guys individually about my story. And I don't
- 26:27Speaker 6: think the guy's a shark from like my experience, but
- 26:29Speaker 6: I think he's a good dude. I think about it generally,
- 26:31Speaker 6: just made a mistake. But back then, like they would
- 26:33Speaker 6: encourage you to like pay your bills for you and
- 26:36Speaker 6: so like everything was just going through account that he
- 26:39Speaker 6: was setting up, so I didn't even like, you don't
- 26:40Speaker 6: have to look at it, you don't want to experience
- 26:41Speaker 6: for everything. And then one day I'm going through myself
- 26:44Speaker 6: because I you know, I hadn't new enough to oude
- 26:46Speaker 6: of myself. Like I was just gonna go through my
- 26:47Speaker 6: account and really check and see what was being spent
- 26:50Speaker 6: off all my bills. I'm going through my stuff. I
- 26:53Speaker 6: see fifty thousand dollars just missing that. I don't know
- 26:55Speaker 6: what's going for. So I call him up and he
- 26:57Speaker 6: was like, oh, I'm gonna take out one of other
- 26:59Speaker 6: player's accounts. You know, I just made a mistake. You know,
- 27:01Speaker 6: I'm gonna put it back in right now. And he
- 27:03Speaker 6: did it, and you know, and to me, it was
- 27:05Speaker 6: just like, I don't know, if you're in competent, where
- 27:07Speaker 6: did it go? He said it was for one of
- 27:10Speaker 6: the other players, his grandfathers or something.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Oh, he sent it to another player. He's in it
- 27:13Speaker 4: another situation.
- 27:14Speaker 6: Yeah, it was supposed to be at another players going
- 27:16Speaker 6: to his grandfather, according what he said. And to me,
- 27:19Speaker 6: it's just like, you know, you can't make that mistake,
- 27:21Speaker 6: you know, if I don't go on and look at this,
- 27:23Speaker 6: you know, I mean, you know, and not just missing it,
- 27:25Speaker 6: you know, And I don't know, I can't. I mean,
- 27:27Speaker 6: you're telling me that it's just a mistake. But from outside, look,
- 27:30Speaker 6: either you were trying to get over on me or
- 27:33Speaker 6: you just you know, genuinely just incompetition.
- 27:35Speaker 4: It's just like the movie casino. Yes, casino. Yeah, when
- 27:39Speaker 4: Sam Ross team, he fired the guy at the at
- 27:42Speaker 4: the slot machine. They was robbing the slot machine, and
- 27:45Speaker 4: he sat him down. He said, it's one or two
- 27:47Speaker 4: things that's happening here. Either you're in on it or
- 27:50Speaker 4: you're incompetent to realize what's going on. Either way, I
- 27:52Speaker 4: can't trust you at this point exactly exactly what it
- 27:55Speaker 4: is exactly. You know what I'm saying.
- 27:57Speaker 6: I gotta let you go, ye.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Do that?
- 28:00Speaker 3: Same didn't work.
- 28:02Speaker 4: It didn't work out there.
- 28:03Speaker 6: Somebody is tough though, like you ain't like The'm a
- 28:05Speaker 6: football player, you know, I ain't no, I ain't no ceo,
- 28:07Speaker 6: I ain't no you know, businessman at the time at least. Yeah,
- 28:10Speaker 6: I'm a football player. That's all my knowledge is, you know.
- 28:13Speaker 6: And I went to school for advertising, like I ain't
- 28:15Speaker 6: go through school for business or nothing. So the whole
- 28:17Speaker 6: process was like it was it was hard, you know,
- 28:18Speaker 6: it was an adjustment, you know, but then you know
- 28:20Speaker 6: if you go through it like oh I want that bad,
- 28:22Speaker 6: you know, like you just got to go through it,
- 28:23Speaker 6: you know. And so I ended up going with an
- 28:26Speaker 6: another guy that was he was teaching me and stuff
- 28:28Speaker 6: and we've been together ever since, and he's been a
- 28:30Speaker 6: great mentor for me, and we've done, you know, a
- 28:32Speaker 6: lot of great things together. And I mean now I
- 28:33Speaker 6: feel like my knowledge not to be able to speak
- 28:35Speaker 6: the language and to understand it is you know, I
- 28:38Speaker 6: mean way better than you know. It has been a
- 28:40Speaker 6: probably I feel like to sit in the room and
- 28:41Speaker 6: have a conversation with any businessman and be whole.
- 28:44Speaker 4: My own after that, did you stop with the bill payment? Yeah?
- 28:48Speaker 6: Yeah, no, nevermore. I pay my own bills, and sometimes
- 28:50Speaker 6: my credit could have been a lot better, because there's
- 28:52Speaker 6: definitely times just because being a human opening my mail
- 28:55Speaker 6: and stuff and missing things. Yeah, I had to deal with,
- 28:58Speaker 6: you know, missing some bills and you know, having to
- 29:00Speaker 6: pay him later and stuff. So I mean, I just
- 29:02Speaker 6: I'll take that, though I'd rather, you know, my credent's
- 29:04Speaker 6: corps be you know, seven hundred instead of eight fifty
- 29:07Speaker 6: because you know, I forgot the for some bills or
- 29:10Speaker 6: whatever it may be.
- 29:11Speaker 4: So so all right, let's talk them about your foundation.
- 29:16Speaker 4: So I know that's something that's very important to you
- 29:18Speaker 4: in charity work that you've done given a lot of
- 29:20Speaker 4: money to charity. So when did when did that start,
- 29:24Speaker 4: And when did you decide to actually get get a
- 29:27Speaker 4: physical foundation up and running.
- 29:29Speaker 6: When I first got this league, I sarking with my brother,
- 29:32Speaker 6: one of my brothers and one of my sisters. And
- 29:34Speaker 6: you know, we we we we ate deep. We grew
- 29:36Speaker 6: up in my household, you know, and so it's, you know,
- 29:39Speaker 6: we very family oriented, very close family. Where'd you grow
- 29:41Speaker 6: up at a diner Conorado?
- 29:43Speaker 3: Okay?
- 29:44Speaker 6: And so you know, my dad, you know, just a
- 29:47Speaker 6: great father, you know, there every day, uh, you know,
- 29:50Speaker 6: teaching us, you know, helping us to kind of like
- 29:52Speaker 6: see things from the bigger picture, and like just a
- 29:54Speaker 6: great teacher, you know. And so we feel like he
- 29:57Speaker 6: had a really good strong values, core values that we
- 30:00Speaker 6: wanted to kind of just put out there in the world. So,
- 30:02Speaker 6: talking amongst each other, we want to start a family
- 30:04Speaker 6: foundation that met to my father, and so, uh, you know,
- 30:07Speaker 6: it's a process, you know. So there's a lot of logistics,
- 30:09Speaker 6: a lot of things going into that, because I mean,
- 30:11Speaker 6: really running foundation is really running a business. You know,
- 30:13Speaker 6: it's a nonprofit business, but it's a business in the less.
- 30:15Speaker 6: You know, we ain't have no business sense. So it
- 30:17Speaker 6: took us a while to kind of get going, but
- 30:19Speaker 6: you know, we had the heart we wanted to kind
- 30:21Speaker 6: of you know, we had you know, goals and we
- 30:23Speaker 6: want to help we want to help kids and and
- 30:25Speaker 6: you know and really from you know, from communities that
- 30:28Speaker 6: are similar to what we grew up in. So you know,
- 30:31Speaker 6: we started kind of just doing after school programs and
- 30:33Speaker 6: different things. But the biggest thing was just trying to
- 30:36Speaker 6: carry on my dad's legacy and what he's toll for.
- 30:38Speaker 6: That's telling those principles into some kids who were less
- 30:40Speaker 6: fortunate didn't have that father that we had.
- 30:43Speaker 4: So talk about that, like you said, as a process,
- 30:46Speaker 4: you have to have like a board of directors, And
- 30:49Speaker 4: how what was it that you had to do to
- 30:51Speaker 4: set up the foundation.
- 30:53Speaker 6: Back in the day, you think about it, we didn't
- 30:54Speaker 6: even know how to like, you know, how to file
- 30:55Speaker 6: a paperwork to even start a foundation right away. You know,
- 30:57Speaker 6: it took a while just doing research and everything else.
- 30:59Speaker 6: You know, technologies come a long way and you can
- 31:01Speaker 6: get a lot more information way faster. But this is
- 31:04Speaker 6: back to really after my work the years in two
- 31:06Speaker 6: thousand and nine, you know, twenty and ten, we started
- 31:07Speaker 6: going through that process. It took us, you know, a year,
- 31:09Speaker 6: year and a half before we really kind of figured
- 31:11Speaker 6: out the logistics of it, and then we really started
- 31:14Speaker 6: kind of you know, doing a lot more in eleven
- 31:16Speaker 6: creating the board of directors. We kind of it was
- 31:18Speaker 6: kind of I mean, we kind of was ghettled for
- 31:20Speaker 6: a little while, you know, I mean we have big hearts.
- 31:22Speaker 6: We try to do a lot of stuff. But and
- 31:24Speaker 6: that's one of the thing too, we try to figure
- 31:25Speaker 6: out a better way of Like today, when I talk
- 31:27Speaker 6: to guys about what they should do, I'm like, first
- 31:29Speaker 6: of all, right, now, first thing you should do is
- 31:31Speaker 6: just try to figure out what what organizations like, what
- 31:33Speaker 6: kind of like uh, you know, what kind of like
- 31:36Speaker 6: initiatives you want to support, figure out who's doing a
- 31:38Speaker 6: really good job boosts on the ground, other charities as
- 31:40Speaker 6: they's doing that, and to support them great programs together
- 31:43Speaker 6: with them, because I think it's so much better when
- 31:44Speaker 6: you have partnerships people who you know, whoever have the experience,
- 31:47Speaker 6: that are doing it at a high level, and then
- 31:49Speaker 6: just you know, you can bring more exposure to them
- 31:51Speaker 6: Craig programs, or you can help the kids you want
- 31:52Speaker 6: to help through their programs, and so it's so much
- 31:54Speaker 6: easier doing it that way, you know. So back then
- 31:56Speaker 6: on an We're trying to do on our own. So
- 31:58Speaker 6: I'm trying to create these new programs, you know, you
- 31:59Speaker 6: gotta you're hiring people, you know, doing a lot of stuff.
- 32:02Speaker 6: And it was just like it was I learned a lot.
- 32:04Speaker 6: I learned a whole lot, but it was it definitely
- 32:06Speaker 6: was a process, and like you just wasting money that
- 32:08Speaker 6: I want to go to kids, it's not going there
- 32:10Speaker 6: because I'm trying figure out different ways of doing things.
- 32:12Speaker 6: But at the end of the day, you know, we
- 32:14Speaker 6: did do a really good job of helping a lot
- 32:16Speaker 6: of people. We were really just active in the community
- 32:19Speaker 6: with just with time and then resources. You know, I
- 32:22Speaker 6: feel like now, you know, the time part, the actual
- 32:25Speaker 6: commitment and me being out there is so much like
- 32:27Speaker 6: it's only here and there versus like you know, writing
- 32:30Speaker 6: checks and you know, putting you know, resources into the
- 32:33Speaker 6: best places. I feel like they could be more efficient
- 32:35Speaker 6: is what I'm doing now, which is I feel like
- 32:37Speaker 6: the better way of doing it. But at the same time, though,
- 32:39Speaker 6: if you've got a big carder, you want to go
- 32:40Speaker 6: out there and do the logistics and you want to
- 32:41Speaker 6: put everything together, go for it, you know, But I
- 32:44Speaker 6: just trying to courage guys like you know, let's people
- 32:45Speaker 6: already doing that. You ain't got to reavent the will
- 32:47Speaker 6: she supporting the people already doing it.
- 32:49Speaker 5: Yeah, so you said that and you corrected yourself. You
- 32:52Speaker 5: said that I wasn't a CEO then. Was amazing, believe
- 32:56Speaker 5: obviously you see yourself as a CEO now and a
- 32:58Speaker 5: lot of a lot of you know, athletes in the NFL,
- 33:02Speaker 5: you know, try to become a brand right in themselves.
- 33:04Speaker 3: They are the CEO of their lives and becoming a brand.
- 33:08Speaker 5: It's tough, right, there's over eighteen hundred players and everybody
- 33:12Speaker 5: is its own individual. So how do you how does
- 33:15Speaker 5: one market themselves inside of a landscape? Obviously this is
- 33:19Speaker 5: the biggest you know, sports business in America. How do
- 33:24Speaker 5: you market yourself to become that individual or become a brand?
- 33:28Speaker 6: Yeah? I mean I think everything starts with success on
- 33:30Speaker 6: the football field. You know, the more successful you are,
- 33:32Speaker 6: the bigger your brand is going to be. Always every
- 33:34Speaker 6: person plays NFL, you know, you are the CEO of
- 33:37Speaker 6: you know, your individual, you know brand, and you're the
- 33:41Speaker 6: CEO because we're individual contractors, you know, eachesting. You know,
- 33:43Speaker 6: we get a loyalty for that team, but you know
- 33:45Speaker 6: you could, you know I could. I'm a Raven. You
- 33:47Speaker 6: can hate the brownd you can hate the Stellers, you
- 33:49Speaker 6: can hate toity Bengals. But at the same time, like
- 33:51Speaker 6: you know, if I was at your cut, you know,
- 33:54Speaker 6: I could be a Brown still or a Bengal and
- 33:57Speaker 6: so it's just crazy, can you think about that? Because
- 33:58Speaker 6: it's like, you know, the loyalty is in the moment,
- 34:01Speaker 6: but we're individual contractors. I want to keep playing football.
- 34:04Speaker 6: So if the Ravens don't want me no more and
- 34:05Speaker 6: I want to keep playing football, then I'm you know,
- 34:07Speaker 6: it depends on who wants me. So it's just kind
- 34:08Speaker 6: of like a you know, like it's unique, you know
- 34:11Speaker 6: in a sense, so your brand is separate from the
- 34:13Speaker 6: team brand and everything else, you know, individual contractors. But
- 34:16Speaker 6: you got to realize like, okay, you know, like I
- 34:18Speaker 6: got to I got to put together a process, you know,
- 34:21Speaker 6: a business plan for how I want to grow my value,
- 34:24Speaker 6: you know, and so just from a football standpoint and
- 34:27Speaker 6: like trying to like, you know, make investments on how
- 34:29Speaker 6: I can approve my value from taking care of your body,
- 34:31Speaker 6: you know, from eating healthy to like you know, you know,
- 34:36Speaker 6: I mean all the other things that go into it.
- 34:38Speaker 6: You know, there's just a process that you have to
- 34:40Speaker 6: kind of lay out, and it should be structured. You know,
- 34:42Speaker 6: you should to put together an actual like you know,
- 34:44Speaker 6: actual process and plan. I feel like a lot of
- 34:47Speaker 6: guys don't really do that, you know, take a wif
- 34:48Speaker 6: to take a while for me to do that. You know,
- 34:49Speaker 6: I have to learn business. You ain't really got to
- 34:51Speaker 6: be a CEO in actual life. You know, you just
- 34:54Speaker 6: to be a CEO of your brand and your football brand.
- 34:56Speaker 6: But like when I was younger, like you know, people
- 34:58Speaker 6: shall say you have another hustle, You can have another hustle.
- 35:00Speaker 6: We cant have ano hustle. Football money and enough. You know,
- 35:02Speaker 6: people going broke all the time, you know, And there
- 35:04Speaker 6: was some article that came out and said it's like
- 35:06Speaker 6: I think it was like seventy five percent of people,
- 35:07Speaker 6: seventy percent of people are broken and find outial distress
- 35:10Speaker 6: that for two years football and I thought that was
- 35:13Speaker 6: just like a crazy number. But I started trying to
- 35:14Speaker 6: do some stuff. I wanted to create these companies. I
- 35:17Speaker 6: hire some consultants. I'm spending money trying to figure out
- 35:19Speaker 6: how I can make more money. And after a while,
- 35:21Speaker 6: I was sitting there talking with my best friends and
- 35:23Speaker 6: he was like, I mean, you know, you really ain't
- 35:27Speaker 6: gotta you really ain't got to do none of this.
- 35:29Speaker 6: You know, you really could just play football and and
- 35:31Speaker 6: make enoughing be good. As long as you save your bread,
- 35:33Speaker 6: you ain't gotta spend it. You're good.
- 35:34Speaker 8: You know.
- 35:34Speaker 6: If you spend it and invested, you know you're good.
- 35:36Speaker 6: And I was like, just I have an epiphany. It
- 35:38Speaker 6: was like, you know, like I'm too busy to be
- 35:40Speaker 6: a CEO. I ain't enough time. But I could do
- 35:42Speaker 6: it for a small window before I started training with
- 35:44Speaker 6: the hard from you know, whatever my season is, I
- 35:46Speaker 6: vi Jania Ard February. If I'm looking, it's going to
- 35:48Speaker 6: Super Bowl. Uh So when I start training really hard
- 35:50Speaker 6: in April, I got a short, small window I could
- 35:52Speaker 6: be a real CEO. But other than that, I can't
- 35:54Speaker 6: really be a CEO. I gotta be you know, I
- 35:57Speaker 6: got to put football first because that's when we grow
- 35:59Speaker 6: the most. That's why I'm have the most value. And
- 36:01Speaker 6: so it's kind of tough because it's like, you know,
- 36:03Speaker 6: like I mean, I'll be myself more as an investor
- 36:06Speaker 6: you know, I try to invest into real CEOs, and
- 36:09Speaker 6: I try to, you know, if I could find somebody
- 36:11Speaker 6: who's doing really good work, we can a credit partnership
- 36:13Speaker 6: where I don't have to be there all the time
- 36:15Speaker 6: and I could kind of just add value where I
- 36:16Speaker 6: can and be able to reap the benefits from it.
- 36:18Speaker 3: You know.
- 36:19Speaker 6: I do a scenario, you know, so I try to
- 36:21Speaker 6: tell guys, you know, you ain't gonna be CEO now
- 36:22Speaker 6: you do. See you guys start to call the lines
- 36:25Speaker 6: start their you know, different businesses and stuff. I'm like,
- 36:27Speaker 6: you know, if it's content creation and things that you
- 36:29Speaker 6: can do while you're playing football, gread. But at the
- 36:31Speaker 6: same time, it's like you need good partners. You know,
- 36:33Speaker 6: you need people who actually can run something that you know,
- 36:35Speaker 6: you trust. And you see like the Big Baller brand
- 36:36Speaker 6: and they had the guy running their brand and he
- 36:38Speaker 6: was stealing from them. You know, it's like it's it's
- 36:40Speaker 6: tough because it's like, you know, I mean, we ain't
- 36:42Speaker 6: got time to be trying to you know, check some
- 36:44Speaker 6: balances and everything else, so it's kind of hard. So
- 36:46Speaker 6: I'm like, man, you know, I had a teammate who
- 36:49Speaker 6: you know, who played for four years and he ain't
- 36:51Speaker 6: take care of his brother like its supposed to. The
- 36:53Speaker 6: end up was working at Adol Zone, and I was like, man,
- 36:56Speaker 6: if you just take care of his brand, and like
- 36:57Speaker 6: wait until he was done to spend his money. He
- 37:00Speaker 6: could have he couldn't. He could have franchised and had
- 37:02Speaker 6: like three four or five adals on.
- 37:04Speaker 2: You know.
- 37:04Speaker 6: Oh that was kind of kind of deep when you
- 37:07Speaker 6: think about from the pictures now. I try to tell
- 37:08Speaker 6: guys all the time, like, man, hold your bread. I mean,
- 37:12Speaker 6: best case if you like me. I'm thirty six, and
- 37:14Speaker 6: so I was retired today, I'll be thirty six, started
- 37:15Speaker 6: my next career with a with a with a big
- 37:19Speaker 6: booster of revenue, of capital to be able to go
- 37:22Speaker 6: and do whatever I want to do next, you know,
- 37:23Speaker 6: if I wanted to. I'm lucky enough where I've made
- 37:25Speaker 6: enough money. I don't have to, you know, do anything.
- 37:27Speaker 6: I can just sit home and collect and check from
- 37:28Speaker 6: my assets, my investments, and be the luff I want
- 37:31Speaker 6: to live. But you know, but even if you're a
- 37:33Speaker 6: guy who plays five six years, you don't really make
- 37:35Speaker 6: a whole bunch of money, you know, then you take
- 37:37Speaker 6: that what you did make, you know, and then you
- 37:39Speaker 6: go and do your next career. Then you go have
- 37:41Speaker 6: a you know, startup capitalol you can have put a
- 37:43Speaker 6: concept capital to do whatever you want to do next.
- 37:45Speaker 6: If you want to become a businessman, or you could
- 37:47Speaker 6: just credit investments and get a simple job and whatever
- 37:49Speaker 6: you want to do. You know.
- 37:50Speaker 3: So what are some of the investments that interests you?
- 37:55Speaker 5: Obviously as your career is winding down, what was after
- 38:00Speaker 5: football look like in terms of you know, future business
- 38:03Speaker 5: creations and investments?
- 38:04Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I mean that's that's a big that's
- 38:06Speaker 6: a big, big, big, big questionnaire. Because I got a lot,
- 38:12Speaker 6: you know. So I start with the things I want
- 38:15Speaker 6: to do. What I'm done playing. I want to get
- 38:17Speaker 6: more of aalut to the real estate. I already do
- 38:18Speaker 6: some real estate, you know, and I've been learning a lot,
- 38:21Speaker 6: but I want to get into development, you know. I
- 38:23Speaker 6: know Emms Smith and Bruce Smith or two people I
- 38:27Speaker 6: would consider it somewhat of a mentor. I don't talk
- 38:29Speaker 6: to him enough yet, but Borwick's Worick done war done
- 38:32Speaker 6: as well, you know. Yeah, so I don't know his
- 38:35Speaker 6: story as much, and I have never talked about business
- 38:37Speaker 6: like I did within, but I definitely had him to list.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Yeah you got one hundred and seventy eight properties in Florida.
- 38:42Speaker 6: Wow.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he's a Florida legend.
- 38:44Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I want to do business in Florida. Some
- 38:46Speaker 6: difficult reach out to him. Yeah, he's a legend. But
- 38:49Speaker 6: you know, but real estate is what I want to
- 38:51Speaker 6: be in. Also, I want to get into content creation,
- 38:55Speaker 6: you know. I also want to kind of something similar
- 38:57Speaker 6: what you guys are doing, who are just educating people
- 39:00Speaker 6: and just like kind of like keeping sports business, you know,
- 39:03Speaker 6: just kind of lifestyle and everything else attached to it.
- 39:06Speaker 6: But then you know, I'm definitely gonna do some broadcasting
- 39:09Speaker 6: just because I feel like I put myself position and
- 39:11Speaker 6: I think i'd be fun to kind of talk up
- 39:12Speaker 6: stay close to the game that way.
- 39:13Speaker 3: I feel like a natural fit. Right.
- 39:16Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm gonna playing a little poker, you know. I
- 39:18Speaker 6: like poker focus fun too, but from a business stand point,
- 39:20Speaker 6: poker has to be a business too, like you know,
- 39:21Speaker 6: laying out how much someone to spend, how much tournaments,
- 39:24Speaker 6: entry entries are, and then how much pend're bringing in,
- 39:26Speaker 6: like keeping that structure, because people go crazy, you know,
- 39:28Speaker 6: lose a lot of money. They don't structure things. Yeah,
- 39:30Speaker 6: I tell guys all the time too. This is separate
- 39:32Speaker 6: from what I'm doing. But just budget your fun. You
- 39:34Speaker 6: know you got you mentioned NFL. You want to spend
- 39:36Speaker 6: a little money. Cool, you know you earn the right to.
- 39:38Speaker 6: But let's just budget it. Let's not just spend money
- 39:40Speaker 6: crazy thicking. And you look up and I spent three
- 39:42Speaker 6: four million dollars. Nah, let's budget how much we'll spend
- 39:45Speaker 6: your first round?
- 39:45Speaker 4: Pick?
- 39:46Speaker 6: You made an eight mill all sound of bonus? Cool?
- 39:48Speaker 6: You know's take that. We'll say, Okay, I'm gonna blow
- 39:50Speaker 6: ten percent of this eight hundred thousand. We're gonna blow
- 39:52Speaker 6: want with you, you know, uh you know, uh a
- 39:55Speaker 6: lamborghinning truck, get your limber, let me get your truck.
- 39:58Speaker 6: Spend one hundre thousand. Want to get your the piece
- 40:00Speaker 6: of jewelry, go ahead, get it, but just budget you
- 40:02Speaker 6: know you don't spending one hundred thousand. I said, you know,
- 40:04Speaker 6: so a lot of these guys they just started swiping
- 40:05Speaker 6: the cars from the car and look up like, hey,
- 40:07Speaker 6: I spend that much money because you're organized. You gotta
- 40:09Speaker 6: be organized. Uh so you know that's the poker. I
- 40:12Speaker 6: want to be organized. Poker that wrong.
- 40:14Speaker 5: Is the Lambo truck the thing of the NFL. Every
- 40:16Speaker 5: player today has said that, Yo, you want the lambled truck,
- 40:19Speaker 5: Get the Lambo truck.
- 40:20Speaker 6: It's a new toy that a lot of races. It's
- 40:23Speaker 6: okay driving Tesla, but I'm also investing in Tesla stock.
- 40:25Speaker 6: So I drive a Tesla because I'm invested in Tesla stock. Uh,
- 40:28Speaker 6: you know which I got into a thirteen. So I
- 40:30Speaker 6: did pretty well in Tesla, and I sold some of
- 40:33Speaker 6: it more recently. I kind of saw before it got
- 40:35Speaker 6: all the way to the to the top. But it's
- 40:36Speaker 6: still matter a pretty penny, i'd say. But you know,
- 40:43Speaker 6: but I but that's why I drive a Tesla. You know,
- 40:45Speaker 6: I try to I try to use products that I'm
- 40:47Speaker 6: invested in. So the stock market has been you know,
- 40:49Speaker 6: that's one of my favorite things to do. I started
- 40:51Speaker 6: investing two and thirteen and it's been really good for me.
- 40:54Speaker 3: I mean, obviously you're o g in the locker room.
- 40:56Speaker 3: Do you do you see uh, players.
- 41:01Speaker 5: And maybe your teammates looking at investments venture capitals as
- 41:06Speaker 5: a way to you know, have ownership but have long
- 41:10Speaker 5: term you know, capital. When they finished playing, do you
- 41:14Speaker 5: see that so.
- 41:15Speaker 6: I don't think a lot of guys will thinking about
- 41:16Speaker 6: their long term capital like they should be. So I
- 41:20Speaker 6: think it's the process you as guys get to that
- 41:22Speaker 6: second third contract, that's where they start really kind of
- 41:25Speaker 6: getting more a little more informed and trying to invest
- 41:28Speaker 6: a little better. Some guys have good people around them
- 41:30Speaker 6: that help them in that world. Uh So there are
- 41:33Speaker 6: definitely some you know, some people who are well connected
- 41:34Speaker 6: with the white people who are connected with the bike
- 41:36Speaker 6: deals that can you know, grow I know, I know,
- 41:41Speaker 6: like J. J. Watt and a couple of people that
- 41:42Speaker 6: was with the Texas and stuff invested in that Blacks
- 41:44Speaker 6: Pizza before it became a big deal when lebronm was
- 41:47Speaker 6: getting in it. You know that the deal kind of
- 41:50Speaker 6: like passed by me, but I didn't know enough to
- 41:51Speaker 6: grab it into that one matter. I missed that on
- 41:53Speaker 6: that one. Uh But but I feel like there's a
- 41:58Speaker 6: there are a lot of guys who are you know,
- 42:00Speaker 6: who are looking for opportunities to grow their resources. But
- 42:02Speaker 6: the biggest thing is education, you know. And so I
- 42:04Speaker 6: feel like, you know, I mean, you know, I'm in
- 42:06Speaker 6: lock of them all time. Santa Stems and ther right
- 42:08Speaker 6: now to them individually all the time, you know, and
- 42:11Speaker 6: so it's really about like you know, being informed of
- 42:13Speaker 6: what you do. But you know, I think that virtual
- 42:15Speaker 6: capitalists get involved into like you know, kind of like
- 42:18Speaker 6: early stage investments and trying to grow with them. Sat
- 42:21Speaker 6: more risk there though, so you want to you know,
- 42:23Speaker 6: do a lot over. But you know, I think there's
- 42:25Speaker 6: an investment I'm in. It's called next Play Capitals. A
- 42:28Speaker 6: guy who played in the league, you know, Ryan NIE's
- 42:31Speaker 6: dad is running a lot and so they well connected
- 42:33Speaker 6: in the vitual capitalist world and he does like a
- 42:35Speaker 6: fund of funds that I'm a part of.
- 42:38Speaker 5: That.
- 42:38Speaker 6: It's kind of cool, you know, because it allows me
- 42:40Speaker 6: to get access to the tech world and tech space
- 42:42Speaker 6: and I go up to Silicon Valley all the time,
- 42:44Speaker 6: and I've met you know, I've been in you know
- 42:45Speaker 6: rooms with some really high level people in that virtual
- 42:48Speaker 6: capitalist world, and it's just kind of just educating myself
- 42:51Speaker 6: and learning and it's cool. You know, I'm get some
- 42:54Speaker 6: good returns back, you know, you know, it's you know,
- 42:56Speaker 6: it's solid, you know, some really good follow stuff playing.
- 42:58Speaker 4: Test brother, Thank you for joining us, man, They're so appreciated. Man,
- 43:03Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 43:03Speaker 6: I'm a big family, soap mas. So I'm glad we're
- 43:05Speaker 6: able to have you all. I appreciate it.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Man, This is dope.
- 43:07Speaker 6: Man.
- 43:08Speaker 3: Shout out to the NFLPA again. This is has been
- 43:10Speaker 3: a dope.
- 43:10Speaker 5: Experience man, just as a sports fanatic. For both fanatic
- 43:13Speaker 5: and obviously one of the most important weeks of the
- 43:16Speaker 5: year in the season for the NFL to have as
- 43:19Speaker 5: part of it. I'm very gracious, so thank you.
- 43:21Speaker 1: An illegal alien from Guatemala charged with raping a child
- 43:25Speaker 1: in Massachusetts. An MS thirteen gang member from Al Salvador
- 43:29Speaker 1: accused of murdering a Texas. Man of Venezuelan charged with
- 43:33Speaker 1: filming and selling child pornography in Michigan. These are just
- 43:37Speaker 1: some of the heinous migrant criminals caught because of President
- 43:41Speaker 1: Donald J. Trump's leadership. I'm Christy Noman, the United States
- 43:44Speaker 1: Secretary of Homeland Security. Under President Trump, attempted illegal border
- 43:49Speaker 1: crossings are at the lowest levels ever recorded, and over
- 43:53Speaker 1: one hundred thousand illegal aliens have been arrested. If you
- 43:56Speaker 1: are here illegally, your next you will be fine nearly
- 44:00Speaker 1: one thousand dollars a day, imprisoned and deported, you will
- 44:04Speaker 1: never return. But if you register using our CBP home
- 44:08Speaker 1: app and leave now. You could be allowed to return legally.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Do what's right. Leave now. Under President Trump America's laws,
- 44:16Speaker 1: border and families will be protected.
