- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: next to you.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. It's still me, Solo,
- 0:14Speaker 1: while Joakim recovers. Hopefully he's back very soon, but today's
- 0:17Speaker 1: very exciting. I'm gonna meet a bunch of girls from
- 0:20Speaker 1: Saint Anthony's Kenojon Secondary School. If you're tuning in now,
- 0:22Speaker 1: you're getting ready to meet me. I'm so excited. That's
- 0:25Speaker 1: happening this morning. Stay tuned. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Um, I know that for those of you who are
- 0:34Speaker 1: following the World Cup, this is probably a very big
- 0:36Speaker 1: week for you. And, uh, Joakim, obviously, even though he's
- 0:39Speaker 1: recovering from a flu, at least he can be watching
- 0:42Speaker 1: it at home and not have to watch it in
- 0:43Speaker 1: the studio or rush down to the studio. So maybe
- 0:46Speaker 1: that could be an upside for him.
- 0:48Speaker 1: But plenty happening this week, including your chance to walk
- 0:52Speaker 1: away with tickets to catch Legally Blonde, the, the musical
- 0:56Speaker 1: here in Singapore. We're so excited. Nathaniel Ong leads the
- 0:59Speaker 1: cast as Elle Woods. I mean, you know her, she
- 1:02Speaker 1: was in our studio for Les Miserables and Hamilton, of course,
- 1:05Speaker 1: when she came back to Singapore, she's been
- 1:07Speaker 1: Very busy, I think nonstop with interviews, with um features,
- 1:13Speaker 1: you know, and everything, filming, shooting, so many things. But
- 1:16Speaker 1: of course, an all-star cast awaits you, Nathan Hartono and
- 1:19Speaker 1: also Sandra Riley Tang, you would recognize her too. It's
- 1:21Speaker 1: going to be the ultimate feel-good musical event of the year.
- 1:25Speaker 1: We're so excited for you to catch it.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Um, if you want to know more, SRT.com.sg, but we
- 1:30Speaker 1: will have the cast of, uh, Legally Blonde coming to
- 1:34Speaker 1: our studio very soon. More details then. Thank you for
- 1:37Speaker 1: joining me here this morning. Yesterday, I actually stumbled upon
- 1:41Speaker 1: this gem of a place, OK, and I've never been
- 1:44Speaker 1: there before, but because of work, it brought me there
- 1:47Speaker 1: to the CBD area and I realized that they were
- 1:50Speaker 1: actually having a collaboration with a super viral Thai restaurant,
- 1:54Speaker 1: like straight from Thailand, OK?
- 1:56Speaker 1: So if you are a foodie, you might know Emily's
- 2:00Speaker 1: official in Bangkok, Emily's, I don't know if you've heard it.
- 2:03Speaker 1: They're super famous for their mee kai cheek. I'm, I
- 2:06Speaker 1: hope I'm saying that right. It's like a chicken noodle,
- 2:09Speaker 1: so it's a very thin, like biehoon sort of situation,
- 2:12Speaker 1: but like way thinner than the biehoon that you're usually
- 2:14Speaker 1: eating here in Singapore with chicken on top. They've got
- 2:17Speaker 1: like a spicy shallot dressing.
- 2:19Speaker 1: And lettuce. That's it. It looks, it doesn't look like much.
- 2:24Speaker 1: It looks like a very simple dish, but when I
- 2:26Speaker 1: bit into it, I was like, whoa, it's super, super tasty. So,
- 2:29Speaker 1: I really want to give a shout out to For Gather.
- 2:32Speaker 1: This is over at Far East Square. So straight in
- 2:35Speaker 1: the CBD area, there were like tons of people after
- 2:37Speaker 1: work coming in to check it out. And uh, their
- 2:40Speaker 1: own menu is very good at For Gather, but Emily's
- 2:43Speaker 1: is a pop-up over at Four Gather. So, check it
- 2:46Speaker 1: out because they just launched yesterday.
- 2:49Speaker 1: And I know I wanted to save this for food
- 2:51Speaker 1: news later on after 9, right? But I mean, look, I,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I think you're up early as well. If you really
- 2:56Speaker 1: want to make plans on where to go and how
- 2:58Speaker 1: to check it out, I'm letting you know right now.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Um, it's only here for one month only, so please
- 3:03Speaker 1: pull up. I think they're gonna release more favorites from Emily's. So,
- 3:06Speaker 1: I went to check out Emily's official as well, and
- 3:09Speaker 1: they've got so many delicious things. I don't know how
- 3:12Speaker 1: many they're going to be launching, but their chicken noodle
- 3:15Speaker 1: is definitely the, the hot favorites, and they've done pop-ups
- 3:18Speaker 1: in Seoul, they've done pop-ups in other countries, and now
- 3:21Speaker 1: they're here. So, very excited. Uh, definitely check it out.
- 3:25Speaker 1: It is happening for a month right now over at Foreather.
- 3:30Speaker 1: This is at Far East Square. Please, please satisfy your
- 3:33Speaker 1: Bangkok cravings. It was so legit. I was very happy
- 3:37Speaker 1: to have it. In fact, my stomach just growled thinking
- 3:39Speaker 1: about it again.
- 3:41Speaker 1: We're just about to head to the phone lines now
- 3:42Speaker 1: every day before it hits 7. I want to try
- 3:45Speaker 1: my best to squeeze in your dedication, your shoutouts on
- 3:48Speaker 1: air live before you get to school so that, hey,
- 3:50Speaker 1: you know what, maybe you start your day the right way, right?
- 3:53Speaker 1: And you, and you're energized with the song of your choice.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So we're gonna head to the phone lines now. Hello. Hi.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Morning. Ernest. Good morning. This is Ernest, Ethan and Elaine.
- 4:04Speaker 1: All right. Hello. Everyone's name starts with E.
- 4:08Speaker 1: That's intentionally. Of course, I figured. And which school do
- 4:12Speaker 1: they go to? Is it the same school? I go
- 4:14Speaker 1: to Cat High Primary and Toa Payoh, hoping that Joakim
- 4:20Speaker 1: and I can stop by. Joakim was from Catholic High
- 4:23Speaker 1: Primary actually. Ethan. Exactly, you should go back. Do Ethan
- 4:28Speaker 1: and Elaine have a shout out for anyone and a
- 4:30Speaker 1: song request? I want to shout out to my friend
- 4:34Speaker 1: who has been my friend for the first half of
- 4:36Speaker 1: this year.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Uh, Alex.
- 4:40Speaker 1: OK, shout out to Alex. Any song request? Can I
- 4:44Speaker 1: have Basket Keys by Green Day? Ah, I'm not sure
- 4:48Speaker 1: if we have that. Well, great, great choice of song,
- 4:51Speaker 1: but we only have, um, we only have Boulevard of
- 4:54Speaker 1: Broken Dreams and Wake Me Up When September ends. Uh, OK,
- 4:59Speaker 1: I have the Wake Me Up When September ends. OK.
- 5:03Speaker 1: How did you, how did you discover that song?
- 5:06Speaker 1: Um, my mom told me about it.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Nice. OK. You're, you're gonna get that song in just
- 5:13Speaker 1: a few minutes. Is your sister OK with this song also?
- 5:17Speaker 1: Yes, OK, great. Well, that's going out to you and
- 5:20Speaker 1: I hope you guys get to have a fantastic day
- 5:22Speaker 1: in school, OK?
- 5:24Speaker 1: Thank you. Um, role model's actual name is Tucker. In
- 5:27Speaker 1: case you're wondering, apparently he chose the name purely as
- 5:30Speaker 1: an ironic joke because it was just like something he
- 5:33Speaker 1: threw out during an interview and he thought it'd be funny,
- 5:36Speaker 1: but he didn't realize he'd be stuck with it for
- 5:38Speaker 1: his entire professional music career. But it was, it's quite cute.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I mean, it's one of those names that you remember,
- 5:44Speaker 1: but at the same time, you wonder what's the artist's
- 5:47Speaker 1: actual name. Um, but yeah, go, go check it out.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I think pretty cool music actually.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Um, that has a bit of a country vibes. OK, anyway,
- 5:57Speaker 1: like I mentioned earlier, this one usually is covered by Joakim.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Every single time there is anything related to one of
- 6:04Speaker 1: our national pastimes, which is either 4D or Toto. Once again,
- 6:08Speaker 1: we don't encourage gambling. It's just that when the pot
- 6:11Speaker 1: gets so big, right, everyone becomes super invested.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And we were just talking about this on Friday, if
- 6:17Speaker 1: I'm not wrong. Joe was saying, um, oh, if I
- 6:19Speaker 1: don't turn up to work on, uh, on Monday and Tuesday, you,
- 6:22Speaker 1: you know what happened lah, that means I struck toto.
- 6:24Speaker 1: So I'm like, hey, I should text him right now.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I'm like, is, are you one of two people that
- 6:29Speaker 1: won the $12.8 million dollar total prize? That's just sick.
- 6:34Speaker 1: That's crazy. One of the winning tickets, by the way,
- 6:38Speaker 1: was sold pretty near my area.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Well, it's not exactly nearby, but in the vicinity, Bedok Reservoir.
- 6:46Speaker 1: So I'm, I'm an East Coast person, right? So Bedok
- 6:48Speaker 1: Reservoir not too far away. Um, yeah, one of the
- 6:51Speaker 1: winning tickets sold at Bedok Reservoir's betting outlet. I'm like, oh, wow.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I don't, I, I don't usually take note of it
- 6:57Speaker 1: unless it's like near where I live, right, because usually
- 7:00Speaker 1: it's kind of far out. I noticed quite a lot
- 7:03Speaker 1: that happened, if I'm not wrong, please correct me if
- 7:05Speaker 1: I'm wrong, like in the west side or even like
- 7:07Speaker 1: near Yishun, I think I've seen one winning ticket from
- 7:09Speaker 1: there before.
- 7:10Speaker 1: But yeah, one was a quick pick system entry over
- 7:14Speaker 1: at Bedok Reservoir, and the other one was a bet
- 7:17Speaker 1: that was placed online. So yeah, um, to the people
- 7:21Speaker 1: that always say, yeah, online, sure, you won't win one,
- 7:23Speaker 1: you won't win. I mean, some people say that there's
- 7:26Speaker 1: a lower chance, but recently I've been seeing quite a
- 7:28Speaker 1: lot of people winning online though, so.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think that stands at all, but there
- 7:33Speaker 1: were many group seven prizes which, uh, to which you
- 7:36Speaker 1: win $10. I've never even won $10 OK, from like
- 7:40Speaker 1: $40 or total, never. In fact, the rare occasion that
- 7:44Speaker 1: I go would usually be like during Chinese New Year,
- 7:46Speaker 1: I'll go with my, my mom, right? We'll just go
- 7:48Speaker 1: and buy and we are so clueless about it. When
- 7:51Speaker 1: I went there, the auntie looked at me and she
- 7:53Speaker 1: was like, first timer.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And to my horror, another guy in the line actually
- 7:59Speaker 1: um recognized me, right? And he goes like, hey, Sonia,
- 8:02Speaker 1: you buy 40. I'm like, OK, maybe let's not just
- 8:05Speaker 1: say that too loudly, it's just once a year.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's just um like a CNY pastime thing that
- 8:10Speaker 1: you just got to do at least once a year, right?
- 8:13Speaker 1: So, uh, if you're tuning in and you are one
- 8:16Speaker 1: of two people that, you know, won the $12.8 million
- 8:21Speaker 1: dollar total prize that you've split, I mean, I'm happy
- 8:25Speaker 1: for you, but at the same time, the rest of
- 8:26Speaker 1: us just got to keep grinding. So we got a
- 8:29Speaker 1: bonus prize and a treat for you this week. Tickets
- 8:33Speaker 1: to catch Legally Blonde, the musical on 4th of August.
- 8:37Speaker 1: This is worth $248. I want you to have it. Um,
- 8:41Speaker 1: this is an iconic 2001.
- 8:43Speaker 1: cult favorite film. It defined an entire generation, I have
- 8:46Speaker 1: to say it right, and it went on to become
- 8:48Speaker 1: like a smash hit musical on both Broadway and the
- 8:50Speaker 1: West End. And now, Nathaniel Ong, as you know, she's
- 8:54Speaker 1: a West End star and a Singaporean. She's leading the
- 8:57Speaker 1: cast as Elle Woods. So she's already done Les Miserables,
- 9:01Speaker 1: she's done Hamilton.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And I would love to give a big shout out
- 9:04Speaker 1: to an all-star cast, Nathan Hartono, Sandra Riley Tang, and
- 9:07Speaker 1: many more. I, I saw many other big names there
- 9:10Speaker 1: as well. So this is going to be the ultimate
- 9:12Speaker 1: feel-good musical. I want you there. Tickets and more info
- 9:15Speaker 1: on SRT.com.sg, but here on
- 9:18Speaker 1: 87, The Shock circuit specifically. I've got a pair of
- 9:21Speaker 1: tickets for you to catch Legally Blonde, the musical. It
- 9:24Speaker 1: is worth almost $250. Your chance coming up. Well, onto
- 9:29Speaker 1: something really exciting. Every day this week, I've got a
- 9:31Speaker 1: pair of tickets for you to catch Legally Blonde, the
- 9:34Speaker 1: Musical right here in Singapore, and these tickets are worth
- 9:37Speaker 1: almost $250. I want you to have a fantastic night
- 9:41Speaker 1: and you may or may not know the plot point
- 9:43Speaker 1: of Legally Blonde, the movie. I mean, it's, it's kind
- 9:46Speaker 1: of based on that, right?
- 9:47Speaker 1: It was released in 2001, so yeah, it's quite vintage already. Um,
- 9:52Speaker 1: an American comedy film that was all about blondes at
- 9:56Speaker 1: that point in time. So here's a quick one, OK. Um,
- 9:59Speaker 1: Reese Witherspoon was actually Elle Woods. She acted as a
- 10:02Speaker 1: sorority girl who attempted to win back her ex-boyfriend by
- 10:06Speaker 1: getting a degree at Harvard Law School. In the process,
- 10:10Speaker 1: she starts to overcome stereotypes against blondes and triumphs as
- 10:14Speaker 1: a successful lawyer.
- 10:17Speaker 1: It's a very cute story and um I think it's
- 10:19Speaker 1: a classic till this day. As you know, um people
- 10:22Speaker 1: always use the term blonde as a stereotype, right? Like, oh,
- 10:26Speaker 1: they've got already these preconceived notions as to how you
- 10:29Speaker 1: might be just because you're blonde or, yeah, I mean,
- 10:32Speaker 1: stereotypes exist in every industry and, and every phase of life,
- 10:36Speaker 1: I feel in a way.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So anyway, based off this, this uh storyline, I want
- 10:41Speaker 1: to open up the phone lines right now. 669-11987, loosely
- 10:46Speaker 1: based off this, if you were to do a quick
- 10:50Speaker 1: career switch right now, just like how the main character
- 10:55Speaker 1: um in Legally Blonde did, trying to be a lawyer
- 10:58Speaker 1: and all that.
- 10:59Speaker 1: If you could do a mid-career, a mid-life career switch
- 11:03Speaker 1: right now, what would you do and why? Let me know.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Give me a call 669-11987. Get creative with it and
- 11:09Speaker 1: you could be the one walking away with a pair
- 11:11Speaker 1: of tickets to catch Legally Blonde, the Musical. Hello, good morning. Morning.
- 11:16Speaker 1: What's your name? Yes, morning. Clement here. Hi, Sonia. Hi, Clement.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Where are you off to and who are you with?
- 11:21Speaker 1: To send my wife to work after dropping my, my
- 11:24Speaker 1: precious daughter. Yeah, yeah, I go to work. So this
- 11:27Speaker 1: is for my daughter. Oh, nice. OK, yes, I hope
- 11:31Speaker 1: that you can maybe go watch it with her as well.
- 11:33Speaker 1: So here's the question. If you could do a midlife
- 11:36Speaker 1: career switch right now, just based off the storyline of
- 11:39Speaker 1: Legally Blonde, the movie previously that the musical is based on.
- 11:44Speaker 1: What would you do? Uh, I would try to venture
- 11:46Speaker 1: into hospitality line, uh, maybe the hotel industry, because I'm
- 11:50Speaker 1: being in, in another industry serving customers as well, but, uh, I,
- 11:56Speaker 1: I feel that my expertise should be better put in
- 11:59Speaker 1: place towards more service side. Oh, like customer service, interacting
- 12:04Speaker 1: with people.
- 12:05Speaker 1: OK, so may, may I ask then, what do you
- 12:07Speaker 1: do now that is so different, because now I mainly
- 12:12Speaker 1: automobile clients, so it's a different type of, yeah, correct. Yeah, OK,
- 12:17Speaker 1: so if you could pick like a hotel to work,
- 12:19Speaker 1: what would you pick? I think Ritz-Carlton. Wow, I love that.
- 12:23Speaker 1: One of the top ones here in Singapore.
- 12:26Speaker 1: OK. Hey man, thank you so much for your answer
- 12:29Speaker 1: and for chatting this morning and just for being a
- 12:32Speaker 1: sweet person all around, sending your whole family to to
- 12:34Speaker 1: school and work. Congratulations.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Thank you, Tonia. You're most welcome. Yeah, the Legally Blonde
- 12:41Speaker 1: tickets are officially yours. Once again, this is gonna be
- 12:43Speaker 1: the ultimate feel-good musical of the year, happening 29th of
- 12:48Speaker 1: July to 16th of August at the Esplanade Theater. Hope
- 12:50Speaker 1: you enjoy yourself. So yesterday, uh, I found myself in
- 12:53Speaker 1: a really stupid situation, um, and, and I might just
- 12:57Speaker 1: want to open up the phone lines for this later on,
- 12:59Speaker 1: but we'll see, we'll see. I'll just share it with
- 13:01Speaker 1: you first.
- 13:02Speaker 1: So I know tons of you watched my story yesterday
- 13:04Speaker 1: where I said I fell and I almost face planted
- 13:07Speaker 1: on the road, OK. I want to find the two
- 13:10Speaker 1: girls that helped me yesterday. Approximately, I think it was,
- 13:14Speaker 1: let me think, 1112, about 12 p.m. thereabouts, 12 p.m.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I came up from my Pilates class. I usually try
- 13:22Speaker 1: and do a quick one like during a lunch slot, right?
- 13:24Speaker 1: So I came out and uh I was rushing to
- 13:27Speaker 1: my car.
- 13:28Speaker 1: When, you know those shophouse areas, right? There are those
- 13:31Speaker 1: steps on the side that lead you down to the road,
- 13:33Speaker 1: but the steps are, um, I mean, it's just kind
- 13:36Speaker 1: of there and on the side of those steps, sometimes
- 13:39Speaker 1: it's just like nothing. There's no railing, nothing, right? So,
- 13:43Speaker 1: I missed the step and I fell and almost face
- 13:46Speaker 1: planted on the road. My, um, my, the stuff from
- 13:50Speaker 1: my bag just like flew out and I think I
- 13:52Speaker 1: heard an audible gasp from a girl that was standing
- 13:55Speaker 1: near me at that, at that time.
- 13:57Speaker 1: And uh I took a moment to like push myself
- 14:00Speaker 1: out from the ground. Actually, it was, yeah, and she helped,
- 14:04Speaker 1: she was, oh my God, are you OK? This other
- 14:06Speaker 1: lady like, you know, helped me pick up my cap
- 14:08Speaker 1: and like some, some stuff that flew out from my bag.
- 14:10Speaker 1: She's like, are you, are you OK? I'm like, yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 1: I'm fine. I'm fine. Thank you so much for helping me,
- 14:13Speaker 1: you know, and I limped away, uh, mostly from embarrassment,
- 14:17Speaker 1: but yeah, I think the entire CBD crowd saw me
- 14:21Speaker 1: faceplant yesterday. Thankfully, I didn't actually smash my face to
- 14:24Speaker 1: the ground. That would have been bad because, you know,
- 14:26Speaker 1: the gravel and stuff, but
- 14:27Speaker 1: I only have a minor sprain. Actually, I think it
- 14:30Speaker 1: was in that moment, you know, you're a little bit
- 14:31Speaker 1: shocked and you don't feel much at the time. Then
- 14:34Speaker 1: when you start walking, you're like, oh man, my ankle
- 14:36Speaker 1: is kind of sore, my knee is definitely scraped, but
- 14:40Speaker 1: thankfully I was wearing exercise pants, so when I got
- 14:42Speaker 1: back to the car, I went to inspect the injury
- 14:44Speaker 1: and it was not so bad. I just have like
- 14:46Speaker 1: a singular plaster over it, which is fine.
- 14:48Speaker 1: My ankle, unfortunately, was the ankle that I rolled previously
- 14:52Speaker 1: when I was playing paddle, I think, I can't remember
- 14:56Speaker 1: if it was my left, left or right. So it's
- 14:59Speaker 1: just a little bit swollen right now, but I think
- 15:01Speaker 1: it's manageable. I can still kind of walk and put
- 15:03Speaker 1: pressure on it. It's not so bad as the previous
- 15:06Speaker 1: injury that I got. This one, I think it should
- 15:08Speaker 1: subside in like a couple of days, hopefully, I mean,
- 15:12Speaker 1: Life has to go on. I, I still went off
- 15:14Speaker 1: for my shoot. I still wore a little bit of heels, so, yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 1: just got a bit of a guard on right now.
- 15:20Speaker 1: And yeah, that, that's me. It seems like 2026 has
- 15:23Speaker 1: been a year of um sprained ankles and falling for
- 15:27Speaker 1: some reason. Some are self-inflicted, obviously, you know, nobody asked
- 15:31Speaker 1: me to play paddle and sprain my ankle, but I
- 15:34Speaker 1: did that. And for this one, please, just a gentle reminder,
- 15:37Speaker 1: look where you're going today. I mean, some of these
- 15:40Speaker 1: steps are really tricky and
- 15:41Speaker 1: You know, we know some unfortunate incidents of people actually
- 15:44Speaker 1: really getting very badly injured when it comes to these things.
- 15:47Speaker 1: So be careful to this number one hit music station.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Sonia was here this morning. Thanks for joining me. So
- 15:52Speaker 1: this is something that I, I definitely would not wish
- 15:54Speaker 1: upon anyone, especially when you're traveling, when you're looking forward
- 15:58Speaker 1: to a trip and everything, you've got everything planned already, right?
- 16:02Speaker 1: There's a traveler that claimed two surfboards worth about $3600
- 16:08Speaker 1: in Singapore dollars.
- 16:09Speaker 1: were broken in half on a flight, and they said
- 16:13Speaker 1: there was violent baggage handling, um, you know, the surfboards
- 16:18Speaker 1: broke and it's apparently a normal travel risk, yes, but
- 16:22Speaker 1: it's still quite sad lah, right, you know, um, apparently
- 16:25Speaker 1: there's a bit of a conversation happening with the airline
- 16:28Speaker 1: right now. I don't know what about the compensation, what,
- 16:30Speaker 1: what the compensation situation.
- 16:32Speaker 1: is going to be like, um, and this traveler also
- 16:35Speaker 1: claimed that the surfboards were fully protected in a padded bag,
- 16:39Speaker 1: like a thick padded professional surfing travel bag designed to
- 16:43Speaker 1: be on a plane and everything, and she even wrapped
- 16:45Speaker 1: it with extra foam padding, especially the nose and the tail. However,
- 16:49Speaker 1: after collecting her oversized baggage at Phuket International Airport, she
- 16:54Speaker 1: discovered that both surfboards have been cleanly snapped into two
- 16:58Speaker 1: separate halves, completely destroyed beyond repair.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And allegedly the airline has um declined to provide compensation.
- 17:06Speaker 1: We don't know just yet. We're still waiting for some clarification,
- 17:09Speaker 1: but we'll see what happens next. I'm sure they'll come
- 17:13Speaker 1: back with some, some sort of a statement soon, but
- 17:15Speaker 1: this experience, of course, left the traveler quite
- 17:19Speaker 1: Quite helpless and angry, lah, right? I mean, understandably so. Um,
- 17:23Speaker 1: these damaged surfboards would have completely disrupted her travel plans
- 17:27Speaker 1: in Phuket. I'm assuming she wanted to go there to surf, right?
- 17:30Speaker 1: So it would be, it would be quite bad. You
- 17:31Speaker 1: have to replace it. I mean, you might have to
- 17:33Speaker 1: rent a board and you may not even be comfortable
- 17:35Speaker 1: with that board and you travel all this way just
- 17:38Speaker 1: for this, you know, so I can understand the frustration.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Um, this has happened to me before actually, damaged luggage, um,
- 17:44Speaker 1: damaged items in my luggage as well. Uh, I'll tell
- 17:48Speaker 1: you about it later on, but you tell me your
- 17:50Speaker 1: stories 1st. 669-11987 or drop me a message, 90,050.
- 17:56Speaker 1: 987. Have any of your belongings gotten damaged because of
- 18:01Speaker 1: a flight before? Let me know. It could be your luggage,
- 18:04Speaker 1: it could be, I don't know, violent handling that something
- 18:07Speaker 1: broke or spilled or burst in your luggage. Actually, both
- 18:10Speaker 1: has happened to me before.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Uh, let me know, 669-11987. I would love to give
- 18:15Speaker 1: you a $100 dining experience to Gypsy One Fullerton. Beautiful spot.
- 18:19Speaker 1: You enjoy your Japanese contemporary food as you look out
- 18:23Speaker 1: into the Marina Bay waterfront. It's just fantastic. Give me
- 18:27Speaker 1: a call right now at 669-11987.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Have any of your belongings gotten damaged or destroyed or
- 18:33Speaker 1: they exploded or broke during a flight before. We've got
- 18:36Speaker 1: some stellar lefty first. So this is something that I,
- 18:39Speaker 1: I definitely would not wish upon anyone, especially when you're traveling,
- 18:43Speaker 1: when you're looking forward to a trip and everything, you've
- 18:45Speaker 1: got everything planned already, right? There's a traveler that claimed
- 18:49Speaker 1: two surfboards worth about $3600 in Singapore dollars.
- 18:55Speaker 1: were broken in half on a flight, and they said
- 18:58Speaker 1: there was violent baggage handling, um, you know, the surfboards
- 19:03Speaker 1: broke and it's apparently a normal travel risk, yes, but
- 19:07Speaker 1: it's still quite sad lah, right, you know, um, apparently
- 19:10Speaker 1: there's a bit of a conversation happening with the airline
- 19:13Speaker 1: right now. I don't know what about the compensation, what,
- 19:16Speaker 1: what the compensation situation.
- 19:17Speaker 1: is going to be like, um, and this traveler also
- 19:21Speaker 1: claimed that the surfboards were fully protected in a padded bag,
- 19:25Speaker 1: like a thick padded professional surfing travel bag designed to
- 19:29Speaker 1: be on a plane and everything, and she even wrapped
- 19:31Speaker 1: it with extra foam padding, especially the nose and the tail. However,
- 19:35Speaker 1: after collecting her oversized baggage at Phuket International Airport, she
- 19:40Speaker 1: discovered that both surfboards have been cleanly snapped into two
- 19:43Speaker 1: separate halves, completely destroyed beyond repair.
- 19:46Speaker 1: And allegedly the airline has um declined to provide compensation.
- 19:51Speaker 1: We don't know just yet. We're still waiting for some clarification,
- 19:55Speaker 1: but we'll see what happens next. I'm sure they'll come
- 19:58Speaker 1: back with some, some sort of a statement soon, but
- 20:01Speaker 1: this experience, of course, left the traveler quite
- 20:04Speaker 1: Quite helpless and angry, lah, right? I mean, understandably so. Um,
- 20:09Speaker 1: these damaged surfboards would have completely disrupted her travel plans
- 20:12Speaker 1: in Phuket. I'm assuming she wanted to go there to surf, right?
- 20:15Speaker 1: So it would be, it would be quite bad. You
- 20:17Speaker 1: have to replace it. I mean, you might have to
- 20:18Speaker 1: rent a board and you may not even be comfortable
- 20:20Speaker 1: with that board and you travel all this way just
- 20:24Speaker 1: for this, you know, so I can understand the frustration.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Um, this has happened to me before actually, damaged luggage, um,
- 20:30Speaker 1: damaged items in my luggage as well. Uh, I'll tell
- 20:34Speaker 1: you about it later on, but you tell me your
- 20:35Speaker 1: stories 1st. 669-11987 or drop me a message, 90050987. Have
- 20:42Speaker 1: any of your belongings gotten damaged because of a flight before?
- 20:48Speaker 1: Let me know. It could be your luggage, it could be,
- 20:50Speaker 1: I don't know, violent handling that something broke or spilled
- 20:53Speaker 1: or burst in your luggage. Actually, both has happened to
- 20:56Speaker 1: me before. Uh, let me know, 669-11987. I would love
- 21:00Speaker 1: to give you a $100 dining experience to Gypsy One Fullerton.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Beautiful spot. You enjoy your Japanese contemporary food as you
- 21:08Speaker 1: look out into the Marina Bay waterfront. It's just fantastic.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Give me a call right now, 669-11987.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Have any of your belongings gotten damaged or destroyed or
- 21:18Speaker 1: they exploded or broke during a flight before? So excited. um,
- 21:22Speaker 1: Formula One coming by to Singapore again very soon. So,
- 21:25Speaker 1: before you know it, you blink and it's here, you know.
- 21:28Speaker 1: So yeah, make sure you get your tickets. We'll be
- 21:30Speaker 1: releasing more information when we can.
- 21:32Speaker 1: But meantime, back to the topic here, inspired by how
- 21:34Speaker 1: this lady, this traveler actually got her surfboards cracked in half.
- 21:39Speaker 1: She was horrified and she was actually traveling around Southeast
- 21:42Speaker 1: Asia and she was going to Phuket for surfing and everything.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I can only imagine how troublesome that must have been
- 21:47Speaker 1: because you bring your own boards, you lug it halfway
- 21:49Speaker 1: across the world, only to realize it broke and then
- 21:52Speaker 1: now you have to rent something and spend more money, right,
- 21:55Speaker 1: at the, at the surf place.
- 21:57Speaker 1: So I wanted to ask you, have you ever experienced
- 21:59Speaker 1: a situation where your luggage or your items got damaged
- 22:01Speaker 1: or broken? I've shared my stories already. Amran's on the line.
- 22:05Speaker 1: What happened, man? Yeah, so I was in Tokyo and
- 22:08Speaker 1: then my wife wanted a specific soya sauce and I
- 22:11Speaker 1: have a son as well, so I decided to wrap
- 22:13Speaker 1: the glass bottle of soya sauce in the Pampers. So
- 22:16Speaker 1: I was thinking, OK, I'm gonna wrap the glass bottle
- 22:19Speaker 1: of soya sauce in the Pampers.
- 22:22Speaker 1: So that it, you know, it would, it would give
- 22:24Speaker 1: it more cushion, I guess. And then I came home
- 22:27Speaker 1: and I opened it and I was like, something smells
- 22:29Speaker 1: weird about my bag, you know. And then I opened
- 22:32Speaker 1: it and I lost all the Pampers and the soy sauce.
- 22:35Speaker 1: And now I have a suitcase that smells like I
- 22:38Speaker 1: cooked too much.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Hey, you know what, I, I was just saying that
- 22:43Speaker 1: because for me, this happened to my skincare, like it
- 22:45Speaker 1: basically exploded for some reason. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I,
- 22:50Speaker 1: I just wonder whether it's an air pressure situation on
- 22:52Speaker 1: some of the bottles that just can't take it. Perhaps
- 22:55Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe it loosens the cap or something
- 22:58Speaker 1: it wasn't broken, I'm guessing that you're never gonna bring
- 23:02Speaker 1: sauce back ever again not buying anything.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Thank you so much for your call, Amra. We're talking
- 23:08Speaker 1: about um damaged baggage, luggage or items when you travel,
- 23:13Speaker 1: all inspired by this story that I just told you
- 23:16Speaker 1: about earlier. Um, this poor lady, she brought her surfboards
- 23:20Speaker 1: and she wanted to go, I'm assuming for a beach holiday, right?
- 23:23Speaker 1: But both surfboards got snapped and it's worth almost $4000
- 23:26Speaker 1: Singapore dollars. She's really mad right now trying to seek
- 23:29Speaker 1: some compensation, but
- 23:31Speaker 1: This, this happens sometimes. It's beyond our control quite a lot, right?
- 23:35Speaker 1: Which can be very frustrating. Um, we're heading to WhatsApp
- 23:39Speaker 1: first to just check out what you're saying over there.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Saying hi over here to Jess. Morning, Sonia. So far,
- 23:46Speaker 1: No issues with my baggage beyond the usual scratches on
- 23:49Speaker 1: the surface, but once I had to check in my
- 23:51Speaker 1: umbrella without protection, and it also made it without issues.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I make sure my luggage is quite full. I think
- 23:57Speaker 1: this actually helps with cushioning the impact when they throw
- 23:59Speaker 1: my luggage around. All my glassware came back intact.
- 24:03Speaker 1: I think the destination also matters. Japanese airports are generally
- 24:08Speaker 1: very gentle with your luggages. On social media, you might
- 24:11Speaker 1: see a lot of cases of luggage being thrown on
- 24:13Speaker 1: the floor. So please don't use expensive luggage, luggages for
- 24:17Speaker 1: those destinations. You have a very good point, to be honest. Um,
- 24:20Speaker 1: I think it comes down also to the culture and
- 24:23Speaker 1: maybe even um the airline services, you know, on ground.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Sometimes the on-ground services for your particular airline you're flying, right?
- 24:31Speaker 1: May not be reflective of the airline, you know what
- 24:33Speaker 1: I mean? It's like the ground stuff, you know.
- 24:36Speaker 1: So, uh, it, it, it does happen. Uh, Nadia, what
- 24:38Speaker 1: about you? What's your story? So I'm always traveling a lot.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Traveling to America last year, and when I came back
- 24:46Speaker 1: to Singapore, my baggage, um, the zipper got split into half. And,
- 24:52Speaker 1: and the first time I, the first issue that wasn't it.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I couldn't find my baggage and I thought it was
- 24:58Speaker 1: an oversized. So I asked them like, where's my bag?
- 25:01Speaker 1: And when I got it, I was like, dude.
- 25:03Speaker 1: It's open in half. How do I, some of the
- 25:05Speaker 1: stuff went there. So I went to like baggage claim
- 25:08Speaker 1: to ask about it and they just like denied it.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And like, eventually they gave me like some sort of
- 25:14Speaker 1: voucher for that compensation. It was really frustrating. And I'm sorry,
- 25:19Speaker 1: how much was that voucher? I can't remember, probably like
- 25:23Speaker 1: a few hundreds, I think. Yeah, I know it's, it's,
- 25:26Speaker 1: and it's so frustrating, right, because there's almost nothing you
- 25:29Speaker 1: can do like it's.
- 25:30Speaker 1: your control at that point. Yeah, the worst thing is
- 25:32Speaker 1: that if anything were to be like dropped off in
- 25:35Speaker 1: the baggage carriage in the plane, I'm like, what even know. Yeah,
- 25:39Speaker 1: I can't remember. Exactly. Oh man, OK, well, I guess
- 25:44Speaker 1: you must have invested in a different kind of luggage
- 25:46Speaker 1: now then. Yes, I'm, I'm like so cautious after that.
- 25:50Speaker 1: And so far my recent trip that none of that
- 25:53Speaker 1: happened again. Great, great. Let's keep it that way. Thank
- 25:56Speaker 1: you so much, Nadia.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Jason Derulo right here on 987, gonna be here in
- 26:01Speaker 1: Singapore very soon for GLOW Festival. Can't wait to see him.
- 26:03Speaker 1: It's not his first time in Singapore in the past
- 26:06Speaker 1: couple of years actually. He, he dropped by the 987
- 26:08Speaker 1: studio like sometime last year, I feel, or was it
- 26:11Speaker 1: two years ago, if my memory doesn't fail me.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Anyway, um, time for some last few messages and calls here.
- 26:18Speaker 1: We're talking about whether or not your luggage or your
- 26:20Speaker 1: belongings have been damaged before when it comes to traveling,
- 26:23Speaker 1: all inspired by a very unfortunate case of this lady
- 26:27Speaker 1: who brought her surfboards to Thailand and it got snapped
- 26:30Speaker 1: in half. It was very, very unfortunate.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Um, saying hi over here to a couple of people
- 26:35Speaker 1: who have sent me some pictures even of their damaged luggage. Uh,
- 26:38Speaker 1: I believe this is Sue's. You said 2025, December, Singapore
- 26:42Speaker 1: to Vancouver. I brought three pieces of new luggages. On
- 26:46Speaker 1: the way back, two out of three were very badly damaged,
- 26:49Speaker 1: and you even sent me some photos of that as well. Um,
- 26:53Speaker 1: someone here with, uh, coming through with a reminder, Shing,
- 26:56Speaker 1: always buy travel insurance, guys.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Cheryl's on the line. It's time for one more story here.
- 27:02Speaker 1: What happens? OK, so I was actually coming back home
- 27:05Speaker 1: from Phuket, and then you know, the one where you
- 27:07Speaker 1: have to actually get, take a bus to the aircraft
- 27:10Speaker 1: and then you have to board from the staircase and stuff.
- 27:12Speaker 1: So at the corner, I saw this, um,
- 27:15Speaker 1: Trash bag, so I was wondering, eh, what is this
- 27:16Speaker 1: trash bag doing here? Then I heard them calling for
- 27:18Speaker 1: my name, they said, no, uh, Miss Cheryl, are you there?
- 27:21Speaker 1: So I said, oh, I'm here actually. And then they,
- 27:23Speaker 1: they say, oh, you know, your, your luggage has actually
- 27:25Speaker 1: fallen apart, so everything is here. In the trash bag? Yeah,
- 27:29Speaker 1: in the trash bag.
- 27:31Speaker 1: All your items were in there. Were they, was there
- 27:34Speaker 1: anything missing? Uh, no, but the whole luggage really came
- 27:36Speaker 1: apart and then I asked them, so what's next? They said, oh,
- 27:39Speaker 1: it's because your luggage quality is bad, so it broke.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Oh my God.
- 27:44Speaker 1: How did you find that? How did you argue with that? Um,
- 27:47Speaker 1: all they did was to say, oh, you know, you
- 27:48Speaker 1: can go back to Singapore and then lodge, uh, lodge
- 27:50Speaker 1: a claim from the company, the, the airline company. Yeah, yeah,
- 27:54Speaker 1: so when I went back to Singapore and then I
- 27:56Speaker 1: tried to do a claim and then the airline actually said, oh, no,
- 28:00Speaker 1: your quality is bad, so that's why your, your luggage
- 28:02Speaker 1: give away, there's nothing you can do about it.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Any compensation? No, I did not. After a while, I
- 28:08Speaker 1: was thinking it's a short trip, so it was OK. Girl, you,
- 28:12Speaker 1: you walked home with a trash bag. Very, very busy morning.
- 28:16Speaker 1: We've got like, I think about almost 10 to 15
- 28:18Speaker 1: students waiting for me outside to let them into the studio. Um,
- 28:21Speaker 1: you'll hear from them in just a bit. But for now,
- 28:23Speaker 1: one person is walking away with that beautiful dining experience
- 28:26Speaker 1: to Gypsy over at one Fullerton.
- 28:28Speaker 1: And I'm so happy to say it goes to Cheryl. Congrats, Cheryl,
- 28:32Speaker 1: for sharing that story here with me on air. I
- 28:34Speaker 1: had a good laugh about it. I mean, your pain
- 28:36Speaker 1: is your gain as well, right, today. So you win
- 28:39Speaker 1: a $100 dining experience to enjoy Japanese contemporary food over
- 28:44Speaker 1: at the Marina Bay waterfront area. Um, Gypsy One Fullerton
- 28:47Speaker 1: is the perfect spot, by the way, for happy hour specials,
- 28:51Speaker 1: and they've even um got it.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Instagram page, please follow them, Gypsy SG or you can
- 28:56Speaker 1: also visit their website Pscafe.com/Gypsyone Fullerton. Great deals just for you.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I don't know if you heard the crazy news about
- 29:04Speaker 1: people picking up trash outside of Taylor Swift's wedding to
- 29:08Speaker 1: sell it online, and they're selling it for like actual money,
- 29:10Speaker 1: by the way, people are buying it. So things like,
- 29:13Speaker 1: I don't know, like the invitations or the ring pops
- 29:15Speaker 1: that were from her wedding.
- 29:16Speaker 1: And just trash in general. They actually, it actually fetches
- 29:20Speaker 1: some money. I'm, I'm mind blown, but it is Taylor Swift,
- 29:24Speaker 1: and they both simply had, I think, one of the
- 29:26Speaker 1: biggest weddings ever. Still don't have much information and pictures
- 29:30Speaker 1: from inside, but I think she wants to keep it
- 29:31Speaker 1: that way. So, to each its own, and we all
- 29:34Speaker 1: respect that and just very happy that it has happened.
- 29:37Speaker 1: It's really wedding season for people like Dua Lipa, for
- 29:39Speaker 1: Taylor Swift. I think Lady Gaga as well this year.
- 29:42Speaker 1: She did announce that she might be doing her wedding
- 29:44Speaker 1: this year.
- 29:45Speaker 1: That'll be interesting. That was Gracie Abrahams on 987, Singapore's
- 29:50Speaker 1: number one hit music station. What's up guys? It's Deli
- 29:53Speaker 1: here taking over Sonia Chew on 987. Super grateful to
- 29:57Speaker 1: be here to be able to speak with Sonia and
- 29:59Speaker 1: be on air today. Here's wishing all the sacks all
- 30:01Speaker 1: the best in their orals. Back to.
- 30:04Speaker 1: And that was Physical by Dua Lipa. Hi, my name
- 30:07Speaker 1: is Kylin. My name is Jermaine and we're taking over
- 30:10Speaker 1: from SAC. Thank you so much for having us here.
- 30:14Speaker 1: We are really excited. We are so excited to see
- 30:16Speaker 1: our alumni, Sonia Chu, and we hope Joakim Gomez gets
- 30:19Speaker 1: well soon or maybe not so we can take over
- 30:21Speaker 1: the set longer. It's a really good opportunity for us
- 30:24Speaker 1: to be here so we can have a feel of
- 30:26Speaker 1: what it's like to be a DJ at 987. There's
- 30:28Speaker 1: so many cool things to discover and I think Sonia's
- 30:31Speaker 1: gonna share some secrets with us.
- 30:34Speaker 1: But for now, let's head back to the music on 987,
- 30:37Speaker 1: Singapore's number one hit music station. It's 987 Singapore's number
- 30:42Speaker 1: one hit music station. My name is Desiree and I'm Tanya. Honestly,
- 30:46Speaker 1: it's still not hitting me that we're actually on air
- 30:48Speaker 1: because usually every morning I would be the one tuning
- 30:51Speaker 1: in on 987 on the way to school.
- 30:53Speaker 1: And now I'm the one speaking, so I'm very grateful
- 30:56Speaker 1: for this opportunity to be in the studio with our
- 30:58Speaker 1: favorite alumni. OK, now onto Desiree. Thank you, Tanya. I'm
- 31:03Speaker 1: so excited to be here, but I did wish I
- 31:05Speaker 1: was here before my oral exams for some extra practice.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I'm so grateful to have this opportunity because it's not
- 31:11Speaker 1: every day that someone gets to be here along with
- 31:13Speaker 1: the one and only Sonia Chew. But anyways, let's get
- 31:17Speaker 1: back to the music on 987. How were the girls
- 31:21Speaker 1: from St. Anthony's? Did you girls do a good job
- 31:23Speaker 1: just now covering?
- 31:26Speaker 1: Yes. Are you sure? Yes. So do you think 987
- 31:31Speaker 1: should hire you? Yes. OK, I trust them. I trust them.
- 31:35Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know what happened in the studio
- 31:37Speaker 1: for the past 15 minutes. I was taking a nap outside,
- 31:39Speaker 1: so I hope you're in good hands. I will catch
- 31:41Speaker 1: you tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. I'm gonna leave you with
- 31:43Speaker 1: some Calvin Harris, but in the meantime, SAC, I'll see
- 31:46Speaker 1: you again soon.
