- 0:34media, the creator economy, and the digital space.
- 0:37Every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays like
- 0:40today. I'm your host, Lauren Meisner,
- 0:42the founder of the youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:48Welcome back to Mini Scroll everyone, a Friday mini scroll
- 0:51that I am recording at 5:06 PM on Friday.
- 0:55I cannot explain how busy the business has been these last
- 1:00couple of weeks. It's honestly amazing.
- 1:03Like there's so many amazing things happening and they feel
- 1:05like they're happening all at once, which is great.
- 1:07And a lot of you guys know that these past couple of years
- 1:10within the business have been like honestly the two hardest
- 1:12years of my entire life. It's been so fucked, to put it
- 1:16bluntly. It's been really fucked.
- 1:17And so I feel like we are coming out of a really, really tough
- 1:21period, like the actual trenches.
- 1:24Like this year has felt like I was trudging through mud in many
- 1:27ways and I feel like I actually can see the light at the end of
- 1:30the tunnel. And I feel like we are coming
- 1:32out of this like really horrific period.
- 1:35And I do feel hopeful. And I actually had a tarot card
- 1:37reading yesterday. I work at a Co working space and
- 1:40her office is at a Co working space and they had a tarot card
- 1:43reader come in and I went and she said the same thing.
- 1:47OK. She said by April of next year,
- 1:49everything is going to have like fully settled and we're going to
- 1:53be like out of the trenches back on top.
- 1:56She said my sleeping issues will resolve in January.
- 1:59OK, so that's promising. That's a promising sign because
- 2:01I have the most horrific insomnia and sleeping issues.
- 2:04It's all related to like stress around the business.
- 2:07So yes, good things are coming and I can feel it.
- 2:10But right now I am literally working like 15 hour days like
- 2:14every single day. It's so intense.
- 2:17But I know that this period like needs to happen to get us
- 2:20hopefully over that hump and like to the next phase.
- 2:23Anyways, I do have some podcast ideas and like content ideas for
- 2:26next year that are more about like my founder journey and like
- 2:29what we've been going through in the business that hopefully I
- 2:32can get off the ground. Because I think it would be
- 2:34really interesting for those of you that care about the behind
- 2:36the scenes of the business to hear about it kind of in more
- 2:40of, I suppose a diary format, like a personal journal format.
- 2:44I think it could be really interesting and maybe even like
- 2:46therapeutic for me to like go through writing something like
- 2:49that for you. And also high stakes is back.
- 2:51I'm sure most of you have seen, but if not, go subscribe
- 2:54Spotify, Apple, you can also watch on YouTube.
- 2:57All right, before I get into it, Please remember to rate, review
- 2:59and subscribe. Please Spotify star rate US.
- 3:01We're trying to get to 1000 Spotify star ratings by the end
- 3:04of the year. Let's get into the stories for
- 3:06today, OK? The first story that I have for
- 3:08you guys is I'm going to be talking about Terra's world like
- 3:11mortgage situation that's going on and how now simply Nessa has
- 3:15gotten involved. So earlier this week, TikTok *
- 3:19Tara Lynn, who's also known as sorry, is it Tara or is it Tara?
- 3:22I always say Tara, but I don't know if that's like a Canadian
- 3:24thing. Anyways, Tara Lynn, Tara Lynn I
- 3:26don't know from Tara's world went viral when she did a story
- 3:29time about how she is struggling to afford her mortgage.
- 3:33So Tara does TikTok and YouTube, but her main income source is
- 3:37from only Fans. And now in this video, which she
- 3:40has posted to only fans behind a paywall, she's talking about how
- 3:43she's struggling to afford her $25,000 a month mortgage now.
- 3:48OK, Also side note, she also said seven.
- 3:50I didn't see the video because I don't subscribe to her, but I've
- 3:52seen clips of it and I've seen people talk about it.
- 3:54So just disclaimer, she apparently said in this video
- 3:57$17,000 of that $25,000 a month is of interest.
- 4:05Doesn't that just like hurt you physically?
- 4:09OK so over a year ago Tara went on like now I'm getting confused
- 4:14if I say a Tara or Tara. I don't remember what I first
- 4:17said. Anyways whatever.
- 4:19Tara went on Brianna Chicken Fries podcast and said that she
- 4:22was making around $350,000 a month on Only Fans.
- 4:27But now she's saying times have changed and her Only Fans has
- 4:31slowed down. So this whole thing
- 4:33understandably already sparked a lot of discussion around
- 4:36influencer spending, the whole keeping up the Joneses thing,
- 4:40financial literacy in general, especially for young people who
- 4:44are getting into the influencer industry or even kind of like in
- 4:46the entertainment industry in general.
- 4:48And if you have the ability to start making like tons of money,
- 4:51like having the tools or at least the people around you to
- 4:54kind of help you navigate that. To be fair, a lot of people are
- 4:57thinking that this is terror, just rage baiting.
- 5:00They do think that it is the truth that like she is
- 5:02struggling to pay her mortgage. But like all of this stuff
- 5:06around it, like all the content around it is her just trying to
- 5:09like garner sympathy and become like a quote UN quote like broke
- 5:12influencer so that people subscribe to her on Only Fans
- 5:14again. Now OG creator Simply NASA has
- 5:18shared her $0.02 on it. And I thought this was
- 5:20interesting. So Simply NASA started on
- 5:22YouTube in 2016. She was like a story time
- 5:25lifestyle Blogger. She got quite popular and ran in
- 5:28some of those buzzy circles and she was friends with a lot of
- 5:32buzzy up and coming influencers including Tana Mojo.
- 5:35Also she was part of the creators that started calling
- 5:39out Tana Mojo in 2024 being racist.
- 5:42OK so a couple of days ago NASA posted a TikTok responding to a
- 5:45conversation that was happening on the platform.
- 5:48A user had posted a video saying basically like who remembers
- 5:51Youtubers who were making around $30,000 a month in Adsense?
- 5:55Like where are they now type of thing.
- 5:57Could you imagine being young, making that much money and then
- 6:00having that essentially like taken away from you because you
- 6:03lose relevancy? Did y'all see that video of that
- 6:05girl asking how all the OG influencers were making 30 to
- 6:08$50,000 a month and now they're broke and E bagging on TikTok?
- 6:12Like what happened to all that money?
- 6:13So as somebody who accumulated over 2.5 million subscribers on
- 6:17YouTube back in 2015 and I was literally living in LA so I
- 6:21witnessed a lot of this, I'm going to give you guys the
- 6:23breakdown on what happened with that money.
- 6:25When I moved out there, I thought I was pushing it with my
- 6:27$2000 one bedroom apartment, but I had people living in the same
- 6:31building just at the top floor. I was on the 3rd floor but they
- 6:34were at the top floor paying a $20,000 a month.
- 6:37And then I had some friends that lived in mansions just for the
- 6:39sole purpose of wanting to be able to throw parties and have
- 6:42people come over and make content in there.
- 6:44Literally paying people's yearly salaries like thirty $40,000 a
- 6:47month just to rent this huge house.
- 6:49So for those of you that were also wondering like why do a lot
- 6:51of these influencers have big houses but they're fucking
- 6:53empty? Not even joking.
- 6:55To get some good quality furniture in there it's going to
- 6:57cost you like half $1,000,000. And don't even get me started on
- 6:59their Uber ego. It's like people reach a certain
- 7:02amount of followers and all of a sudden they can't use Uber X.
- 7:05And now that video got a lot of great response from NASA.
- 7:08It went pretty viral, the video that she made.
- 7:11And now she has responded to Terra's world's mortgage gate.
- 7:14So many of you guys have been asking me to talk about the
- 7:16Terra Lynn situation. The influence who was once
- 7:18making over $350,000 a month is now struggling to pay her
- 7:23mortgage. And I mean, $350,000 is a lot of
- 7:26money. She ended up buying a $3.5
- 7:28million home. But according to my
- 7:30calculations, if you're making that amount of money, you could
- 7:32have paid the house off within the year.
- 7:34When you're making all this money, like I said in my last
- 7:36video, you don't think it's ever going to end.
- 7:39You think you're going to always be this relevant and keep making
- 7:41that amount of money? And I did see some comments of
- 7:44people saying like, let's show grace to these influencers.
- 7:47Like they didn't know that they would fall off one day because
- 7:49content creation is such a new thing.
- 7:52Actually, there's been Youtubers since like 2009 and we've seen
- 7:55them fall off in 2014. 2015 monetization has been a thing.
- 7:59We've seen people have the Lamborghinis, the mansions and
- 8:02then the next second it's all gone.
- 8:04I mean, I completely agree. Obviously, relevancy in
- 8:07entertainment doesn't last forever, and we have also had
- 8:10like decades of proof of that at this point.
- 8:13So I agree with her on the point that like, we can't really say,
- 8:17Oh well, influencers, it's like a new industry.
- 8:20People have been making money on YouTube specifically since I
- 8:23think YouTube offered monetization in 2008.
- 8:27I want to say, you know, it has been almost 2 decades of this.
- 8:31We have many many many like countless examples of creators
- 8:35who are super popular and made so much money and got so famous
- 8:39for a moment in time and then completely fell off and like
- 8:42where are they now? The number one thing that people
- 8:44are saying in Tara's comments section is why don't you just
- 8:47sell your multi $1,000,000 home and buy another home much
- 8:52cheaper and that would solve a lot of your financial issues.
- 8:55Queen. Anyways, the next word that I
- 8:58have for you guys is that Stassi Baby has opened up about
- 9:02removing her BBL. So I try not to talk about
- 9:05influencer and celebrity appearance on the pod and
- 9:08plastic surgery and things like that.
- 9:09But I do think that this is an important topic and she is
- 9:13talking about it herself. You know, there's it's not
- 9:15speculation that she's removed her BBL.
- 9:17She has removed her BBL. She is talking about it.
- 9:19She is documenting it. So influencer and Kylie Jenner's
- 9:22bestie Stassi Baby has opened up about why she decided to reverse
- 9:27her very talked about cosmetic procedure.
- 9:30Her BBL wish she revealed she got it. 18 years old, 18 years
- 9:37old. That is such a major surgery,
- 9:38people, I know people die from all types of surgeries.
- 9:41But BPLS are apparently particularly dangerous because
- 9:45of where they're injecting the fat and like the arteries and
- 9:48veins and stuff that are kind of around that area.
- 9:51Like I, I just, I don't know, it just freaks me out. 18 that's
- 9:54such a major surgery OK so in recent months she has been
- 9:58candid with her followers online about the pressure that she has
- 10:01felt as a teen to look a certain way and how that carried into
- 10:04her young adulthood, explaining that she believed she had to
- 10:07have quote a big butt, lips and boobs to fit in with the beauty
- 10:11ideals of the time. And I imagine being besties with
- 10:14the Kardashians does not help because in many ways they have
- 10:18helped set that beauty standard. So earlier this week, she
- 10:21revealed that she was in recovery from removing her BBL.
- 10:25And then she got a little bit of backlash of people saying like,
- 10:28oh, it's just trendy now to be like, all natural and really
- 10:32waist thin and stuff again. So that's why you're just
- 10:35chasing like an aesthetic trend. And she kind of clapped back at
- 10:39that. She said that she's sharing her
- 10:40story to offer the kind of transparency that she wished she
- 10:44had access to back when she was making the decisions to get
- 10:48these surgeries. And I would just like to state
- 10:51that the reason why I'm sharing my experience currently is
- 10:55because I wish I had someone, the one that showed me the not
- 10:58glamorized side of plastic surgery when I was younger and I
- 11:02was 18. And I made this decision that
- 11:05have actually been for years trying to reduce and fix.
- 11:11And just it's actually something that has made me more insecure
- 11:18and made me feel like so unauthentic with me as a human
- 11:24being. I think plastic surgery
- 11:26awareness around, you know, the risks and possibly complications
- 11:31that can go along with it and possibly being unhappy and
- 11:33needing to reverse it like Stoss is doing now.
- 11:35I think all of that is really important.
- 11:36But I think what's more powerful about this is, first of all,
- 11:39she's talking about it and not some type of like dramatic story
- 11:42time type of way. You know, she's not sitting down
- 11:44looking for clicks saying like, here's how I almost died on the
- 11:48operating table. It's not like some sensational
- 11:50story that feels like, OK, well that happened to you, but like
- 11:52that's not going to happen. Happened to me.
- 11:53Like that probably happens to one in like 10 million people.
- 11:57You know, it's not a sensational story.
- 11:59Her talking about those insecurities because I think a
- 12:01lot of people look at Stas and think she's like so gorgeous
- 12:04and, you know, the kind of beauty that we would all like
- 12:07love to obtain. So the fact that she has felt so
- 12:11insecure and also that she does have these procedures, you know,
- 12:15like I feel like we were gas lit for so long by these big like
- 12:20influencer slash celebrity types that their bodies just looked
- 12:24like that. And for many of them, it was so
- 12:26deeply unrealistic. And of course, it set its own
- 12:29totally different, you know, beauty standard that was
- 12:32impossible to live up to. So I think it's powerful from so
- 12:35many different angles. And I really love this chapter
- 12:38for her and I hope she keeps going with it.
- 12:40I have actually really enjoyed getting to know her a little bit
- 12:43more on TikTok. OK, and the last story that I
- 12:45have for you guys, this is a quick one, but I thought it was
- 12:47an interesting indication of the direction of the industry.
- 12:51So drama channels Spill Sesh and Sloan have launched a new show
- 12:56called Poppity. So Christy from Spell Sesh and
- 12:59Sloan have launched what they're calling a pop culture game show.
- 13:02And they have, like, relevant influencers, creator, celebrity
- 13:06guests on each episode, it seems.
- 13:09The first episode was with Tricia Paytas, and they ate
- 13:11Tricia's favorite food in Christie's car.
- 13:14It was like a car vlog. It was like a mukbang, I guess,
- 13:16like a chatty mukbang car vlog. It was very Tricia Paytas.
- 13:20But they also say they're going to take viewers behind the
- 13:23scenes, going to different brand events and just like the
- 13:26industry at large. I think it's really interesting
- 13:28because I feel like it's almost 2 drama channels coming together
- 13:32to start their own entertainment outlet, like video first
- 13:36entertainment outlet. And I love to see it.
- 13:38And I love that they're able to get these really big guests.
- 13:41Like we don't know who else is coming on, but Tricia Paytas is
- 13:44obviously a huge get as their first guest and for huge
- 13:49influencers to be taking drama channels this seriously and
- 13:53agreeing to go on camera like a full long form interview with
- 13:57them doing something cute and fun like doing a mukbang car
- 14:00vlog. Like this is so crazy to me
- 14:03because if you told me that this was happening like five years
- 14:06ago, I would have literally lost my mind.
- 14:10The fact that the industry, the publicist, the managers around
- 14:14these influencers, the influencers themselves are
- 14:16taking commentary channels, drama channels seriously, like
- 14:20this is so interesting. And I think it's a great
- 14:24indication of the direction of new media and entertainment news
- 14:29coverage for sure. And I thought it was funny too,
- 14:31because in the first episode they're like, oh, I imagine we
- 14:33could take you guys to the Wicked premiere.
- 14:35And then they're like, so somebody hopefully invite us
- 14:38like, yeah, literally. So I think that'll be really
- 14:40cool. It's almost like mixing vlogging
- 14:42with traditional entertainment reporting and drama channel
- 14:45reporting. It's very cool.
- 14:46I think it has a lot of potential if they can execute it
- 14:50well. And I assume if they can get the
- 14:51funding for it, which is always the problem.
- 14:54All right, guys. Well, that's it for Mini Scroll
- 14:56today. Thank you so much for listening.
- 14:58I love you guys. Please remember to rate, review
- 15:00and subscribe, please Spotify star rate as we're trying to get
- 15:02to 1000. I love you guys and I will talk
- 15:05to you on Monday. Bye.
