Transcript
- 0:06[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans, welcome you to Dove All Daily, put it into my jing Jack.com.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Luger, thanks so much for being here Monday, August, eleventh, another weekday.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: Another Jacksonville Jaguar's training camp practice.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: As I told you, I kind of feel like there is a break.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: difference in practice after you start your first preseason game.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: It is still technically training camp through the preseason though until they get down to those cuts and then it's on the regular season right.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_00]: So this was Jaguar's training camp practice number thirteen obviously following the Jaguar's loss on Saturday night at the bank.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: Next preseason game coming up this weekend in New Orleans against the Saints.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: But we're going to dive into everything I saw at Jaguar's training camp practice number thirteen.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_00]: Today it was a hot one.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: It was a little bit of a shorter practice.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think they went from eight fifty five till close to ten thirty.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: So not a super long practice, but it was really hot out there.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: today and it's going to continue to be hot throughout the rest of training camp for the most part here.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: So, no surprise there, but I do think I got a little sun today.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: Not practicing, Eric Armstrong's dead, no surprise there.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: He was in the building, did see him there today off, you know, working to the side.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: You also have Caleb Ransal, who is week to week.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Buster Brown and Colvian Lannin who are out for the rest of training camp, and all likelihood, J.L.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: McCloud, who is week two week Mason Smith, who is still on the active slash physically unable to perform list.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's moving around.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like you're close there, but again, not really allowed to speculate.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: We will see when ends up happening with Mason Smith when he gets activated from the active slash pub list to be able to practice.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: The only surprises really were no Anton Harrison and no Tyson Campbell.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: Anton Harrison had a excused personal absence, so, you know, hopefully everything's okay with Anton, but there's no injury to report on there or anything like that.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: What imagine he'll be back with the team soon.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: No Tyson Campbell.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: Day to day with an injury.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, at this time of year, the Jaguars teams don't have to get specific about what the injuries are.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: The last thing I know fans want to see is Tyson Campbell with an injury.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's like, you know, Taylor's oldest time.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: Tyson Campbell deal with injury.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully it really is just an extremely minor thing, just a precaution.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: but not the news folks want to hear so with Tyson Campbell not playing today you saw a lot more Christian Braswell out there with the starters you know Christian Braswell and Jari and Jones outside Jordan Lewis at nickel that's kind of what you were seeing everybody was very complimentary of Christian Braswell from Liam Cohen to Heath Farwell.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: Heath Farwell has had a lot of work with him on special teams.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: Braswell is twitchy
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's competitive.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's feisty.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_00]: He competes against the run.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: So that's why he got the nod there.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: Opposite Jarring Jones again, no Tyson, no Buster.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: I would imagine if it was regular season week one, you can fast forward about a month, a little less than a month now.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it would be a lot of number twelve out there with Jarring Jones, Travis Hunter.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: Christian Braswell is competing to make this team and given the fact that of all those backup cornerbacks they have, you know, with Levi Wallace out now, you know, he's placed on the injured reserve with Tyson Campbell down with Buster Brown down that, you know, Christian Braswell was the next man up so good for him.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: With no Anton Harrison, you saw McCary playing a little right tackle.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_00]: Chuma doga in there at guard as he has been I think they really like him there.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think he played pretty darn well in the preseason week one game.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: Still gonna review more of the game against the Steelers.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna talk about how the rookies performed in general.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: looking at all the rookies that got a lot of playing time and then we'll also just continue to take a look at maybe some of the standouts that weren't rookies or you're kind of one like some of the standout backup performances for the Jaguars will do both of those over the next couple days before they got into team they were doing a jet sweep drill where it was very very pointed it was very
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: detail oriented.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_00]: I will say that.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: Again, there's been so many drills we've seen about like specific types of plays.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: And each one of them, I really appreciate the attention to detail and the focus on the finer points that this coaching staff has.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: Big fan of that.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: The first team period, speaking of the finer points.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: The first team period of practice, it was long.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: The fifteen minutes, forty plus plays of
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: getting through the line of skirmish, getting the right kill or can, getting into the right play, and getting the snap off cleanly.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's all it was.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: Forty plays of that.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: So why?
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's been about two weeks.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguars have had issues.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: pre-snap alignment and assignment on offense.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: And Liam Cohen's been preaching about it.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's been talking to the players about it.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's been talking to the media about it.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: It was not good enough on Saturday night against the Steelers.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, saying not good enough is a understatement.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_00]: It was bad.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I have never seen a coaching staff do this.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: And all my time covering the jag wars.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: I have not seen this.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: I would say it's not great that they feel like they're in the position where they needed to do that.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: But it is good that they are doing it in the position that they are in, right?
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: If you've got a group that cannot get it together mentally, pre-snap, how do you get better at something?
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: You do it.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: Over and over and over and over and over and over again.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: And that's exactly what they did today.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: I really appreciate from that from the coaching staff.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's huge.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen mentioned Thursday.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: They're going to do a skirmish tomorrow.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: They'll be back in full pads.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: Not full pads today, but it was competitive out there.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know, some of the guys were a little tired having a game Saturday night and then competing on Monday morning, but they're going to have like a scrimmage type of practice on Thursday.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I think after that, they're going to decide what the plan will be for, for New Orleans, regarding starters.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then I would imagine, you know, going into Miami week three, they're going to have joint practices.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you see any starters in that game.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: That would surprise me, right?
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe rookies, but not a lot of rookies expected to start.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: So there's only really one rookie that could be starting right now at this point.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like that's obviously Travis Hunter.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen commented on Trevor's performance after going back and looking at the tape from Saturday night.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: He thought it went well.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: He basically, same thing I said, it was the one play where he kind of got Brian Thomas Jr.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: hit by the safety.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: He said, Liam Cohen said that probably that's a play where move on through the progression, don't force it in there, which that's what I thought probably should have happened to.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: And then Liam also did take the blame saying it was a crappy call, crappy play call against that coverage.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: So took the blame for that.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: continue to talk about, you know, the defense, they've got work to do on that side of the ball from an alignment, assignment, coaching, and execution standpoint.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all levels, they've got some work to do there.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: Cohen talked about their relationship between Brian Thomas Jr.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: and Trevor Lawrence and kind of the struggles that Brian Thomas Jr.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: has in in practice, and he does.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he had a dropped past today, we're in talk about it, but he had a drop past today that led to a Jarring Jones Interception.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: So he has struggles in practice.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: We saw this last year.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's like when he gets lined up against people that are not on his team, he turns it on.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: And so Liam Cohen has a ton of confidence in him that he's going to be that guy when the lights come on.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: I do too.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: I really do.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: But it is frustrating and Brian Thomas Jr.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: is very difficult on himself in practice and Liam Cohen said he really has to decide and a lot of times it's not going to be piling on at all because there's enough
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: pressure internally for Brian Thomas Jr.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: to perform on the practice field.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, okay, do I go?
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: Just let M.B.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: do I go, give him encouragement?
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: Either way, he feels really confident that, you know, when it matters, Brian Thomas Jr.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: is going to get the job done and he usually is.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's absolutely a fact.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: So not a big deal there, but I do think you're seeing some struggles at times during practice.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think that
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't a great day in general for the passing game, so we're going to get into all that.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk about Trevor Lawrence.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: His performance today, just a couple of team notes.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: Travis ETN had a really big run probably a touchdown to get things off and then he did score a touchdown in the red zone.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought ETN had a big day and he's now
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all training camp, you look like tank bigsby was the top back and then Jaguar has come out against the Steelers preseason week one and ATNs with the ones and then that continued into today.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: So they got both of those guys competing, but I'll tell you this, I do not think the Jaguar is one ideally to have a back that's a feature ball carrier that they cannot use on passing downs.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: uh... didn't go slaughter had a nice pass break up today played through the body that was cool liquid alan had a nice catch and run would have been a nice big gain so those are some things to take away from team uh... driver Lawrence team they started out red zone seven on seven after they did the uh...
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know, alignment and assignment period.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: They did red zone seven on seven.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: His first throw was two deep for Ryan Thomas Jr., which that one wasn't on Brian Thomas Jr.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: at all.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: That was a Trevor miss.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then O of two strange fell down on the route.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: So don't know exactly how accurate that would have been or not had strange.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: kept his feet, but he did not keep his feet.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: So O of two there, then O of three, he was too deep for Diamy Brown.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: And that was again, I think, on Trevor.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: And there was really tight coverage in the red zone.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: And you come to expect that from guys like Jordan Lewis, from guys like Christian Brasswell and tight spaces.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so not a big surprise there.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jarian Jones as well.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: He did complete his next pass to Diamy Brown.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: another one completed two hundred long and then he was able to hit Britain strange for a touchdown so after a slow start he got going again got to three of six and then the final throw of that little period was too much on it for Travis hunter to go up and get it almost might have been a throw away there was some really tight coverage
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: and that red zone seven on seven, but he did manage to throw one touchdown pass.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: Then we had some eleven on eleven.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: He completed that pass short to E.T.N., which I think also would have picked up a pretty sizable game.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: So that was a nice play.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: Short completion to Travis Hunter.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: Then he hit tank bigsby.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: Then Deami Brown had a drop pretty close to the end zone.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: That dropped Trevor to six of eleven.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: He then hit
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter deep might have been a touchdown.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: It was a one on one situation where Hunter had a little room to work.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: It might have been a touchdown after he caught it, but I did not give Trevor the credit for that touchdown because it looked like the team marked it down around the five.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_00]: Then he had too much on it for Travis Hunter in the red zone.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: Christian Brasswell got a hand on it to fall to seven of thirteen.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: Then we had just in the red zone again tight defense had to throw the ball away.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: It was holding it for two long knew he had to get rid of it.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: had to throw the ball away out of the back of the in zone.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: The next play was the Brian Thomas Jr.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: drop over the middle of the field where Brian Thomas Jr.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: did elevate for the ball.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: But he dropped it two hands on it I mean not even a full extension and by any stretch of the imagination So I was a drop and it fell right into Jarring Jones hands and that was a nice heads-up play by Jarring Got to be a catch by Brian.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think it would have been in a game Then Trevor Lawrence fell to seven of sixteen with a pass battered at the line by foe Alukan
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then Trevor turned it on a little bit.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: Four straight completions to end practice.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: Three of them in a row were to Travis Hunter.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: Completed a big one down the right side to Travis Hunter.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter was able to get both feet down in bounds.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was like not like
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't toe tapping.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_00]: It was like toe dragging.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: Got the first foot down and then you drag the second foot really like a pro move by Travis Hunter.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: Good placement in my opinion by by Trevor Lawrence.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: Then completed two straight to Travis Hunter short and then completed a short pass to Brian Thomas Jr.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: to finish the day eleven of twenty with one touchdown.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_00]: One drop.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: one maybe touched down, one interception that came off of a drop.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, it was two drops today, excuse me, two drops, deami and Brian Thomas Jr.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: So total including preseason now, throughout training camp and preseason, Trevor Lawrence is one, fifty six over two, thirty seven, twenty three touchdown passes.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: Again, not including the one to Travis Hunter that may have been a touchdown.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: Five interceptions, ten drops, two turn over worthy place.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_00]: So that's where Lawrence is at right now for those of y'all who care about the
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the numbers here, you're not allowed to be out at all the practices, so I'm trying to give y'all all the information I possibly can here.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think Trevor's doing well.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: And he did well in preseason week one.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think he continued to do pretty well today.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: You would have liked to see a couple more connections, but you know, like if Ryan Thomas Jr.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: and Diamy Brown don't drop those passes, they clearly should have caught.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: It would have felt like a little bit of a different day.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: If Trevor Lawrence maybe was able to connect on one more of those red zone throws to a Diamy to a Travis Hunter to a Ryan Thomas Jr.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_00]: you would have felt a lot better.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: So it wasn't like his best day, but I still think it was a decent day for Trevor Lawrence.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: It was now at sixty five point eight percent completions for training camp in preseason.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Again, twenty three touchdowns of five interceptions is great.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: When you add the ten drops
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: He would be one, sixty, six over two, thirty, seven.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: So his adjusted completion percentage is seventy percent.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: And again, just has the two turnover worthy plays that were not capitalized on by the Jaguar's defense in the moment.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: So Trevor's doing well.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think Travis Hunter's doing really well.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: Practice on both sides of the ball today.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to continue to do that.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be a little bit more defensive focused tomorrow.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: But he'll be on both sides like he has been as of late.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter is the real deal.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited about continuing to see him and who knows, maybe I've put this out there and I'll put it out there again.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_00]: I would not be shocked if Travis Hunter leads the Jack Wars and catches while Brian Thomas Jr.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: leads the Jack Wars and receiving yards.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: Just gonna put that out there.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
