- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and as always, I'm here with my favorite co-host. Luna: And I'm Luna. I'm excited — today we're going to the pharmacy, right? Lucas: Exactly. Last time we were at the park, enjoying the trees and flowers. Now we're going to take care of a little boo-boo. Luna: A boo-boo? Oh, like when you cut your finger and need a bandage? Lucas: Yes. In Dutch, a bandage is 'een pleister'. Say it with me: 'een pleister'. Luna: Een pleister. Lucas: Good. Now, if you need one, you say: 'Ik heb een pleister nodig.' That means 'I need a bandage.' Let's break it down: 'Ik heb' is 'I have', 'nodig' is 'need'. So literally, 'I have a bandage need'. But it means 'I need a bandage'. Luna: Ik heb een pleister nodig. Lucas: Perfect. Now, when you're at the pharmacy counter, you might want to ask politely: 'Mag ik een pleister?' That's 'May I have a bandage?' Luna: Mag ik een pleister? Lucas: Exactly. And if you want to be extra polite, you can say: 'Een pleister, alstublieft.' That's 'A bandage, please.' Luna: Een pleister, alstublieft. Lucas: Great. Now, let's imagine you're at the pharmacy. Luna, you're the customer. I'm the pharmacist. You come in and say: 'Ik heb een pleister nodig.' Luna: Ik heb een pleister nodig. Lucas: Then I say: 'Hier is een pleister.' That's 'Here is a bandage.' And you ask: 'Hoeveel kost een pleister?' That means 'How much does a bandage cost?' Luna: Hoeveel kost een pleister? Lucas: And I say: 'Twee euro.' Then you say: 'Dank u wel.' That's 'Thank you very much.' Luna: Dank u wel. Lucas: Let's run that whole scene one more time. I'm the pharmacist. You need a bandage. Go. Luna: Ik heb een pleister nodig. Lucas: Hier is een pleister. Luna: Hoeveel kost een pleister? Lucas: Twee euro. Luna: Dank u wel. Lucas: Excellent. You just bought a bandage in Dutch. Now, let's practice the phrases one more time. Repeat after me: 'Ik heb een pleister nodig.' Luna: Ik heb een pleister nodig. Lucas: 'Mag ik een pleister?' Luna: Mag ik een pleister? Lucas: 'Een pleister, alstublieft.' Luna: Een pleister, alstublieft. Lucas: 'Hoeveel kost een pleister?' Luna: Hoeveel kost een pleister? Lucas: And 'Dank u wel.' Luna: Dank u wel. Lucas: You've got it. Now, if you've been getting value from these episodes, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps them going — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, if you've gotten something out of them. Luna: Yeah, it really helps us keep this show ad-free and focused on the language. Lucas: And speaking of focusing on the language, let's practice a slightly different situation. What if you need a bandage for someone else? For example, your friend cut their hand. You could say: 'Mijn vriend heeft een pleister nodig.' That means 'My friend needs a bandage.' Luna: Mijn vriend heeft een pleister nodig. Lucas: Good. Notice 'heeft' is 'has'. So it's 'has a bandage need' — same pattern. Luna: So I can say 'Ik heb' for myself, and 'hij heeft' for he. Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's do a quick recap of today's phrases. We have 'een pleister', 'Ik heb een pleister nodig', 'Mag ik een pleister?', 'Een pleister, alstublieft.', 'Hoeveel kost een pleister?', and 'Dank u wel.' Luna: That's six phrases. I think I can remember them. Can we try one more time? Lucas: Of course. Repeat after me: 'Een pleister, alstublieft.' Luna: Een pleister, alstublieft. Lucas: 'Dank u wel.' Luna: Dank u wel. Lucas: Perfect. Now, before we wrap up, let's put it all together in a tiny story. Luna, you're going to the pharmacy because you need a bandage. You walk up to the counter and say...? Luna: Ik heb een pleister nodig. Lucas: The pharmacist hands you one. You ask...? Luna: Hoeveel kost een pleister? Lucas: They say 'Twee euro'. You pay and say...? Luna: Dank u wel. Lucas: And you walk out with a smile. That's it for today's episode. Thanks for learning with us! Practice these phrases, and we'll see you next time. Luna: Tot ziens!
