- 0:21her chicken coop along with all her chickens.
- 0:28Hey, everybody. Good morning.
- 0:29From the chicken coop. OK.
- 0:31So talking about possibilities again in all your ideas and all
- 0:36the things that you are considering for going into the
- 0:39new year. So we talked about that at the
- 0:42beginning of the week and how you're just capturing stuff and
- 0:46going through it. But I wanted to be specific with
- 0:48you about one of the things that I go through in my process,
- 0:51because I feel like sometimes that helps to know how other
- 0:55people do things. And this is a big one for me.
- 0:58So when I start capturing things in general about my new year, I
- 1:03have to be really careful that I stay out of my how head, meaning
- 1:06I'm not going to be thinking about how I'm going to get it
- 1:08done because it's just a possibility.
- 1:10It's an idea I'm in complete imagination, creativity, and I
- 1:14don't want to see myself go down that rabbit hole of getting in
- 1:17how head. So when I start off this
- 1:20process, the rule is written at the top of the paper.
- 1:24You know, possibilities, ideas, creativity, whatever you want to
- 1:27put up there, you put it there and then you just start doing a
- 1:30big brain dump. But as the week goes on and
- 1:33again, this is over the course of time, I'm doing this.
- 1:37And actually today as I'm talking to you about this, I'm
- 1:39standing in my office and I'm looking at these big sheets of
- 1:43paper that I have so that you can understand exactly how I go
- 1:47about it. I feel like if I'm in the space,
- 1:50I can transfer it better to you. So as I'm doing this capture,
- 1:54something that's very important for me is to be able to
- 1:57delineate the fact that I'm not in how head I have to keep going
- 2:01back to that. And I will tell you it sneaks up
- 2:04on me even now, even after all these years of doing it.
- 2:07It is completely and totally a possibility that you keep
- 2:10hearing in the back of your mind this little.
- 2:13Oh well, I don't know how. Why would I put that down?
- 2:16I don't know how I'm going to get that done.
- 2:18But if it if it knocks, put it on the piece of paper.
- 2:21If it's there and it's saying hello, hello, hello, put it on
- 2:24the piece of paper. Because remember, the paper
- 2:26should be labeled in a way that allows you to just say, I'm
- 2:29capturing thoughts, I'm capturing ideas.
- 2:32I'm not actually putting them out there yet to say, OK, now
- 2:37I'm looking for my how or I'm going in that direction.
- 2:40So it's very important get them all out once they're on that
- 2:44piece of paper and over the course of days, super important
- 2:49that you recognize that as you're going through it.
- 2:52You can still hear Raven off in the distance from my office
- 2:55because I've got a window open. It's nice and cool here this
- 2:58morning. It feels really good.
- 3:00So one of the next steps for me is taking them and putting them
- 3:06into index cards. I love to use index cards
- 3:09because I can sort them that way.
- 3:11So once I start getting a really big page and a big pile, I will
- 3:16take those index cards and I will write on them.
- 3:19It those individual ideas and thoughts.
- 3:22And then I start chunking like items.
- 3:24I start moving them around. I start looking to see, do I
- 3:27have commonality here? Is there something that's a
- 3:29thread between any of them that I can then take and use in a
- 3:34theme of some sort? Is there enough there?
- 3:37Like what I'm noticing about this year for me is I'm kind of
- 3:41working in things of of monthly. Like I seem to be thinking
- 3:47almost each month is going to have a theme.
- 3:51And again, I'm taking you through this process as I'm
- 3:54doing it live, so please know it's not, it's not like it's,
- 3:59it's very fluid. It's not confined to a box, so
- 4:02to speak. So right now, as of today, as of
- 4:06Thursday, I still don't have it all laid out.
- 4:09I'm still thinking about it. It's on those cards.
- 4:12But what I'm noticing is I've got some sort of a theme going
- 4:15on and I've got something that I think is, oh, I may actually do
- 4:19this a little different this year.
- 4:20I may theme out each month and have something each month that's
- 4:23going to kind of drive me. Or I may have an overarching
- 4:27theme by the time I'm done. I don't know.
- 4:30But my point is keep working. Use the things that you use.
- 4:34I have a lot of clients that love post it notes.
- 4:38So if you want to work in post it notes work in post it notes
- 4:41you don't and that way you can see them up on the wall.
- 4:43I like to do. I used to use post it notes.
- 4:46Honestly the reason I stopped is the glue wears off too quickly
- 4:49and they blow around. It drives me crazy.
- 4:52So I started using the little cards and then I can bulldog
- 4:56clip them or paper clip them all together.
- 4:58And I actually like using the four by 6 recipe cards.
- 5:02So think about what way works for you some people.
- 5:06I have a friend, dear friend, I love so much and she is obsessed
- 5:09with Trello boards and to her the Trello boards are super
- 5:14important. I can't work like that.
- 5:16I have to be on paper because if I try to work in something
- 5:19that's not paper it, it just doesn't go computing in my head
- 5:23the right way. So think about the way you want
- 5:26to do it, and at the same time just allow it to happen, but
- 5:31keep considering. OK, I've got to stay out of the
- 5:34how head. I'm going to start the the
- 5:35chunking process. I'm going to notice things, but
- 5:38I'm going to stay out of the how head.
- 5:40All right, I'll see you tomorrow with an update.
- 5:43Bye.
