- 1:20Speaker 2: Patrece Grymple, and I'm happy. I'm good. I'm remotely on vacation,
- 1:29Speaker 2: not vacation, but it's like a semi vacation. I'm actually
- 1:33Speaker 2: in a conference in South Carolina, you guys, and I
- 1:35Speaker 2: am so excited. I have learned so much in the
- 1:40Speaker 2: past two days, and what I've learned from them, I
- 1:44Speaker 2: am going to bring it to the podcast and give
- 1:47Speaker 2: you guys some nuggets. You guys can know what's going on,
- 1:50Speaker 2: but look forward to that. But we're going to bring
- 1:54Speaker 2: y'all a new author in a new book, and I
- 1:57Speaker 2: hope you're ready. I hope you're ready cause see me
- 1:59Speaker 2: and this lady has been buying behind the screens. Okay,
- 2:03Speaker 2: you guys. She has her own podcasts, she has her
- 2:07Speaker 2: own literary magazine that she's working with, and she got
- 2:11Speaker 2: this book, y'all. This book. I'm telling y'all, y'all know
- 2:15Speaker 2: when I say this book, what y'all know? But being
- 2:18Speaker 2: wild and free, Between wild and free? Do you not
- 2:25Speaker 2: know the things you can get into within words? All right,
- 2:29Speaker 2: let's bring her on up. Come on up, miss Joy,
- 2:32Speaker 2: Come on up. We're gonna talk about between wild and Free.
- 2:35Speaker 2: How are you good? Good? How are you? Thank you
- 2:39Speaker 2: for having me? Thank you, thank you for being with
- 2:43Speaker 2: us tonight. So before we get into between Wild and Free,
- 2:48Speaker 2: tell us a little bit about yourself. Well, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 2: I am an indie author at the moment. This is
- 2:54Speaker 2: my first book that I've written. I have always always
- 2:58Speaker 2: known I wanted to be a writer, you know, I
- 3:00Speaker 2: didn't know what kind. So I went to college. I
- 3:02Speaker 2: was like, I'm gonna be a journalist, I'm gonna be
- 3:03Speaker 2: an English teacher. I'm going to be a novelist. So yes,
- 3:10Speaker 2: I began writing. Oh God, when I was a teenager.
- 3:15Speaker 2: You know, I used to do poetry, and that I
- 3:17Speaker 2: was like, my calling is for fiction, which I love,
- 3:20Speaker 2: which doesn't get the respect it deserves. But I've been
- 3:23Speaker 2: writing fiction since I was a teenager. And then I
- 3:26Speaker 2: started sharpening my skills as an adult, taking writing classes
- 3:30Speaker 2: and taking workshops and just getting better self studying as well.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And it led to me writing my first book, which
- 3:38Speaker 2: was a bust. It was bad. It was bad. It's
- 3:42Speaker 2: still printed in a binder. And then I was like, okay,
- 3:45Speaker 2: let's identify the problems and let's restructure. So I went.
- 3:50Speaker 2: And then during the pandemic, that's where between Wild and
- 3:53Speaker 2: Free came to life. So it was it was quite
- 3:56Speaker 2: a journey and it was worth it. Oh this a pandemic, baby.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Oh you know, something had to happen. We were boomed.
- 4:05Speaker 2: What wasn't me? Because I got turned on a hand Hamilton?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Hold on, now, I love me some. I am a geeky.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I love Hamilton, I love plays, I love all of that.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Oh say you wonder? Okay, I'm sorry, digress, digressing. Don't
- 4:29Speaker 2: try being an author while you're young, like those teenage years.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Who were your thoughts about it? I mean, what did
- 4:39Speaker 2: you write about? You know? What's funny? I was reading
- 4:44Speaker 2: books that I should not have been reading since I
- 4:46Speaker 2: was like eleven. I was that kid. Whenever you saw me,
- 4:49Speaker 2: I always had a book in my hand. From when
- 4:50Speaker 2: I was a little girl. I mean I used to
- 4:53Speaker 2: walk to school like this and across from God would
- 4:55Speaker 2: cross me and I wouldn't look up. You know, I
- 4:57Speaker 2: was that person, so I would read anything, and sometimes
- 5:01Speaker 2: that meant adult stuff. And so even as a teenager,
- 5:06Speaker 2: although I didn't necessarily understand the deep mechanisms of the
- 5:10Speaker 2: things I'm reading, just on the surface, that was what
- 5:13Speaker 2: my writing reflected. You know. It was like maybe people
- 5:15Speaker 2: my age but going through relationship stuff was like, girl,
- 5:18Speaker 2: you're fourteen, You ain't worrying about loving no man, you
- 5:22Speaker 2: ain't never been kissed, and you just were reading to read. Correct.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Oh yes, I love to read. It's my favorite pastime.
- 5:29Speaker 2: All right, sidebar Noah, She said she was just reading
- 5:34Speaker 2: to read. So all of y'all, people who I've talked
- 5:37Speaker 2: about before doing that BB's y'all know exactly what I
- 5:41Speaker 2: talk about. It ain't that serious. It's not. And it's
- 5:47Speaker 2: from a when she was a teen. She was reading
- 5:50Speaker 2: just to read. It wasn't nothing big, see what I'm
- 5:54Speaker 2: talking about. Okay, So back to it. So your first
- 5:59Speaker 2: book book you said it went bus. Why would you
- 6:04Speaker 2: say that? I mean, I think as a writer, we
- 6:08Speaker 2: owe it to ourselves to be honest, you know, And
- 6:12Speaker 2: it's like it's not terrible. It's not terrible as far
- 6:16Speaker 2: as the writing structure itself, but when you write fiction,
- 6:20Speaker 2: it's not just about how you can string a sentence together.
- 6:23Speaker 2: It's how your characters developed and stay in character. It's
- 6:26Speaker 2: how to plot. You know, it thickens and everything makes
- 6:29Speaker 2: sense and feels evenly. How your characters actually differentiate from
- 6:32Speaker 2: one another. And I had a lot to work on,
- 6:36Speaker 2: and I didn't know that until I got done, so
- 6:38Speaker 2: I didn't give up on it. I still have it. It's
- 6:42Speaker 2: not speaking to me yet, but when it does, I'm
- 6:45Speaker 2: ready to talk. So you put there, You put the
- 6:49Speaker 2: work into your craft, which is great. I do love
- 6:52Speaker 2: an author that. I'm just saying, character analysis, character development,
- 6:57Speaker 2: because if a character is not developing in the story,
- 7:01Speaker 2: there's no reason why Sally should have a dog at
- 7:03Speaker 2: the beginning of the book and still have a dog
- 7:06Speaker 2: in the book, and the dog won't get older. Shouldn't
- 7:09Speaker 2: that dog die? Well, shouldn't the dog change? Y'all know
- 7:14Speaker 2: what I'm saying. Hearita had to develop along the lines
- 7:19Speaker 2: with the story, So that is great. You are putting
- 7:22Speaker 2: in the time in your craft. Soon if you would say,
- 7:30Speaker 2: who is your biggest fan when it comes to your books, Oh,
- 7:36Speaker 2: you know, I love everybody, because I got people watching
- 7:40Speaker 2: this and they might fight. I want to say. It
- 7:44Speaker 2: is my baby sister. Oh hi, baby sister, and my
- 7:51Speaker 2: husband like my big supporter, so much so that when
- 7:54Speaker 2: I was writing this book, I would feed her each
- 7:56Speaker 2: chapter when it was done for like my audience reaction
- 7:59Speaker 2: to see if she got but I was given. She
- 8:01Speaker 2: has been my biggest fan. She has been so excited
- 8:05Speaker 2: for me, you know, her encouragement and her love. It's
- 8:08Speaker 2: just it's been great. So I literally needed her throughout
- 8:12Speaker 2: this process and I hope she knows and all future projects,
- 8:15Speaker 2: I'm going to put her through the same stress because
- 8:17Speaker 2: I love her. So, sister, you are a beta reader. Okay,
- 8:21Speaker 2: so that's off to you. So now we're going to
- 8:26Speaker 2: bring up this book in this cover. Tell me a
- 8:31Speaker 2: little bit about this book cover before we get into
- 8:37Speaker 2: the book. I love the shadowing. It gives it pure
- 8:41Speaker 2: mystery and a heavy sense of an erotic tone undertone
- 8:48Speaker 2: to it. You know what you are right on the money?
- 8:52Speaker 2: Tell you yes. So, my friend who's gonna hate me
- 8:56Speaker 2: from mentioning this, but she designed the cover from me,
- 8:59Speaker 2: Becau because she does all that graphic design stuff that
- 9:02Speaker 2: I don't understand. The funny part about the book the
- 9:06Speaker 2: cover Before I get into what her relates to the book.
- 9:09Speaker 2: That's actually her with her back to the camera. I
- 9:12Speaker 2: did not know this. It's her silhouette. I said, that's
- 9:16Speaker 2: I just found this out in September and this book
- 9:19Speaker 2: has been being designed for the beginning of the year.
- 9:21Speaker 2: And then the two characters in the back are Barbie Dolls.
- 9:26Speaker 2: We had to make She made it work. You see,
- 9:28Speaker 2: this is her talents. Okay, she made it work because
- 9:30Speaker 2: I said, those are what?
- 9:32Speaker 1: Yes?
- 9:32Speaker 2: What? Mm hmm? How did she do? Okay, We're gonna
- 9:38Speaker 2: have to get her to come. I'm gonna have to
- 9:39Speaker 2: talk to her five minutes. We could do a little
- 9:42Speaker 2: side show. She's gonna tell me, you know what. She
- 9:47Speaker 2: did it. And I was like, I was floored, just
- 9:50Speaker 2: like you. But she did capture everything that I asked
- 9:53Speaker 2: her to capture. I gave her like the world's worst
- 9:56Speaker 2: drawing for what I saw in my head because yeah,
- 9:59Speaker 2: I write, I don't drunk. I don't drunk. But I'll
- 10:04Speaker 2: tell you no, go ahead, Oh no, I wanted it
- 10:07Speaker 2: to you know, I didn't want to give away the book.
- 10:09Speaker 2: But like you said, you can see there's like tension,
- 10:13Speaker 2: there's like erotica. There's something going on where there's a
- 10:16Speaker 2: separation between this couple and this woman over here. But
- 10:19Speaker 2: this woman has on a ring, and so there's the
- 10:21Speaker 2: guy in the back. What's the you know, the correlation there.
- 10:25Speaker 2: So it's supposed to give those kinds of thoughts. That's
- 10:28Speaker 2: what that is. Those are the rinks. Oh very subtle.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Oh I love it. I thank you. Oh my god.
- 10:38Speaker 2: I just thought they were like twinkles. But I see
- 10:41Speaker 2: that that's exactly where it would be. You go, girl,
- 10:46Speaker 2: thank you. So now you got to tell us a
- 10:49Speaker 2: little bit about this book. Yeah, I don't want to
- 10:52Speaker 2: give too much away. I want to trust someone to
- 10:56Speaker 2: start with a disclaimer. This is not smut. There's nothing
- 11:01Speaker 2: wrong with smut, but this isn't that. Okay. It starts
- 11:05Speaker 2: off very spicy, but the story itself doesn't. It isn't
- 11:13Speaker 2: just a sexual erotic story. It is about a woman
- 11:16Speaker 2: going on a journey because we are living in a
- 11:19Speaker 2: time I think where a lot of overt wildness is
- 11:26Speaker 2: what's accepted, it's what's expected. And when it comes to
- 11:29Speaker 2: maybe wanting more traditional values, you looked at as vanilla
- 11:33Speaker 2: or you know, you're not really living up to your
- 11:36Speaker 2: true self. But it's like sometimes the traditional is someone's
- 11:39Speaker 2: true self. You don't have to always do these crazy
- 11:43Speaker 2: things to really express yourself. And this is a story
- 11:48Speaker 2: of a woman going on a journey about that and
- 11:51Speaker 2: discovering for herself the things that she's allowed herself to be.
- 11:54Speaker 2: She has to decide is this what I actually want
- 11:57Speaker 2: or do I want to explore something else as she's
- 12:01Speaker 2: dealing with all of these issues revolving herself and her marriage. So,
- 12:16Speaker 2: m and you said there's a little space. No, it's
- 12:21Speaker 2: not a little spice. It's just not only spice. You know.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I don't want to give away a big thing about it,
- 12:28Speaker 2: but they definitely have a very a very untraditional sex
- 12:34Speaker 2: life where they are much more than your average couple. Okay,
- 12:39Speaker 2: So every time an author says that I'm thinking, ah,
- 12:45Speaker 2: what am I about to give myself into? You will
- 12:48Speaker 2: enjoy whatever it is, I promise you your mind. So
- 12:55Speaker 2: what made you want to write your book? What is
- 12:57Speaker 2: there any factors in this book that said this book
- 13:01Speaker 2: has to be written? You know, honestly, it really started off.
- 13:06Speaker 2: It wasn't starting off as a novel. I was just
- 13:09Speaker 2: trying to teach myself to write in a voice and
- 13:11Speaker 2: in a way that I don't think I had discovered
- 13:14Speaker 2: throughout my writing journey. A lot of my characters were
- 13:18Speaker 2: very reminiscent of me, and I am a very you know,
- 13:21Speaker 2: I'm I'm I'm loud, I'm very confident, I'm very you know,
- 13:26Speaker 2: nothing really bothers me. But people aren't generally like that,
- 13:29Speaker 2: and everybody isn't going to relate to that, and not
- 13:31Speaker 2: all of my characters need to reflect that. So I
- 13:34Speaker 2: started writing this character because she is more more meek
- 13:39Speaker 2: than I am. She doesn't speak her mind as much
- 13:42Speaker 2: as I do, and I wanted to be able to
- 13:43Speaker 2: see how I could teach myself to stay in character
- 13:47Speaker 2: when the character is unfamiliar to me. Now, that is
- 13:51Speaker 2: a great way to learn that lesson, right. I don't
- 13:55Speaker 2: want to say forcing yourself into that that box or
- 14:00Speaker 2: in that group, but making shit, making sure you stay
- 14:03Speaker 2: in that lane of that character, knowing that it's the
- 14:06Speaker 2: total opposite of you. So that is very That's a
- 14:10Speaker 2: great idea. So I have a lot of authors say
- 14:14Speaker 2: that their characters speak to them. Do your speak to you?
- 14:20Speaker 2: I just had this conversation because I'm bossy and my
- 14:23Speaker 2: characters do what I tell them. I outline and they
- 14:28Speaker 2: follow that, and you know, they don't talk to me,
- 14:32Speaker 2: they listen to what I tell them. So I don't.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I don't have that happen. I don't. Oh, I see
- 14:37Speaker 2: your characters be sitting up there talking trash. Why she
- 14:39Speaker 2: got me doing this? And you're gonna do it and
- 14:43Speaker 2: you're gonna like it. That's how I feel. But it
- 14:46Speaker 2: works out. It works out. So tell us about your
- 14:50Speaker 2: female character, her name, her drive, a little bit of
- 14:54Speaker 2: her backstory. Okay, so the female character, the main character,
- 14:57Speaker 2: her name is Deanna, and she she is in her
- 15:00Speaker 2: early thirties. She's married to her husband, Zev. They got
- 15:04Speaker 2: married in place of her going to college, like she
- 15:06Speaker 2: was there but she didn't really know what she was doing,
- 15:09Speaker 2: kind of just flittering along. She is one of those
- 15:12Speaker 2: women that got caught up in the love and allowed
- 15:14Speaker 2: that to be her life. And because of these wild
- 15:18Speaker 2: secrets that they have, it's kind of really put her
- 15:21Speaker 2: in a place of isolation when it comes to having
- 15:24Speaker 2: a full life. And so she's we meet her in
- 15:27Speaker 2: a story where she's ready for something more, something different,
- 15:31Speaker 2: you know, and with her husband, she wants to grow,
- 15:34Speaker 2: she wants a family, you know, she miss having friends,
- 15:37Speaker 2: and she's kind of going through the motions of understanding
- 15:41Speaker 2: that for herself and being able to admit it and
- 15:44Speaker 2: seeing where she lands with that. You know, she she
- 15:48Speaker 2: isn't a bad person, but she doesn't necessarily speak her
- 15:51Speaker 2: mind in the way that she needs to. She doesn't
- 15:53Speaker 2: necessarily put herself the way that she should, and she's
- 15:56Speaker 2: starting to realize maybe I should reaprioritize a lot of
- 16:02Speaker 2: my decisions. Oh and how about this man just in
- 16:06Speaker 2: the background. He is my most controversial character. Okay, right now, Okay,
- 16:16Speaker 2: like my family and friends and the people who have
- 16:18Speaker 2: read it, there are debates on both sides. Okay, I
- 16:22Speaker 2: can't get into it. I get cursed out. Let me
- 16:23Speaker 2: tell you, I get cursed out. I think I know
- 16:27Speaker 2: the man too well because I'm like, whoa, it's not this, No,
- 16:30Speaker 2: it is all right, all right, And that's the best.
- 16:34Speaker 2: That is the best. When you have people that argue
- 16:36Speaker 2: you down about your characters, that means you're doing something correct.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Because if you're telling me now, I'm gonna read this one,
- 16:44Speaker 2: you guys, man, I ain't got no problem in boxing
- 16:46Speaker 2: you why that you're thinking and who you please with?
- 16:52Speaker 2: I have no problem doing it. Tell you you know,
- 16:54Speaker 2: I'm here for it. I can take it. I can
- 16:56Speaker 2: take it. So give me the best you got. But yes, so,
- 17:01Speaker 2: but tell us a little bit about him, his name,
- 17:03Speaker 2: his backstory. Okay, so his name is zev which is
- 17:07Speaker 2: suret for ze Vender. I wanted a name that I
- 17:09Speaker 2: never heard of, so I just made it up. Nothing
- 17:13Speaker 2: significant there, but I made it up. Thank you God
- 17:16Speaker 2: reading Bob Damian de kwon another one. I'm starting to
- 17:22Speaker 2: see Exodus. Why y'all bring the Exodus to the book. Yes, creative,
- 17:29Speaker 2: he is. He is very much the man I am
- 17:33Speaker 2: man hearing me roar, and you will do what I
- 17:36Speaker 2: say without being unbearable about it. You know, when you
- 17:41Speaker 2: contrasted with her character, she's the exact type of personality
- 17:45Speaker 2: that he can thrive in without having to really show
- 17:47Speaker 2: muscle because she's not pushing back. So but he is
- 17:51Speaker 2: very much I will do this and you will follow,
- 17:54Speaker 2: but I will also provide for you. And these are
- 17:57Speaker 2: the things we're gonna do. And he's amazing and which
- 18:02Speaker 2: is very important to the story. Oh, it's very important, y'all.
- 18:10Speaker 2: She dropping hints, and you know she dropped little hints
- 18:15Speaker 2: on this book. So I'm not even gonna say it,
- 18:17Speaker 2: but I think I might see some cheating. I don't
- 18:20Speaker 2: know why I got a feeling for a three way
- 18:23Speaker 2: coming in this book. All I'm gonna say is you
- 18:26Speaker 2: will be surprised. I will say this, and I can
- 18:29Speaker 2: say this with full confidence. Okay, it's not cocky. It
- 18:31Speaker 2: this is you will be surprised at the direction this takes.
- 18:37Speaker 2: That's all I'm gonna say. And I love books like that.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I love books where I think I'm going straight. I'm like,
- 18:43Speaker 2: all right, I think this is about if he goles
- 18:44Speaker 2: just left curve where that comes from? I love books
- 18:49Speaker 2: like that. I won't say I hate, but it's hard
- 18:54Speaker 2: to it's hard to like books where you can go
- 18:59Speaker 2: ahead and predict it end of the book. My chapter four.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I want to be in chapter three scratching my head
- 19:05Speaker 2: writing down characters names because I want to remember who
- 19:08Speaker 2: did what and why they did and who they did
- 19:10Speaker 2: it too, and how they did it. So I love that,
- 19:13Speaker 2: love that, loved that. Why of all the books should
- 19:22Speaker 2: I read your book? Well, you are a librarian who
- 19:27Speaker 2: now loves books, and this is a book that you
- 19:30Speaker 2: will love. It will keep you engaged, you will feel
- 19:33Speaker 2: also represented because I am a black woman and my
- 19:36Speaker 2: main character is a black woman, and while we may
- 19:38Speaker 2: be different on different levels, we all can relate on
- 19:41Speaker 2: some level. And it's an amazing story. I will give
- 19:46Speaker 2: It's an amazing story. It's going to capture, it's going
- 19:48Speaker 2: to make you think. It's not straightforward. You will be
- 19:51Speaker 2: able to determine your own thoughts. I'm not feeding you
- 19:55Speaker 2: what you should think, and I was really careful to
- 19:57Speaker 2: not do that. I didn't want to write with a BIA,
- 20:00Speaker 2: which was another challenge I had given myself in addition
- 20:04Speaker 2: to the character challenge. I didn't want to write with
- 20:07Speaker 2: a bias. I wanted you to make your own decision.
- 20:11Speaker 2: But these are the facts, and I think something that
- 20:14Speaker 2: will make you think a little bit will really uphel
- 20:16Speaker 2: to you. I love that. I love that you let
- 20:22Speaker 2: the reader come up with an opinion. Some authors are
- 20:26Speaker 2: losing that in their books. They are trying to create
- 20:32Speaker 2: the opinion for you. And that's okay, not saying that's wrong,
- 20:37Speaker 2: but for a reader like me, I'd like to make
- 20:39Speaker 2: my own opinion to tell you, I hate your character,
- 20:42Speaker 2: but I love you book. I love that. That's just
- 20:47Speaker 2: one of the things I like to do. And if
- 20:50Speaker 2: you really get me like that, then you got me
- 20:53Speaker 2: for good. No, I can't wait for you to view
- 20:55Speaker 2: it's I can't wait because I'm talking a lot of junkie.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I gotta live up to it, right. I think I
- 21:00Speaker 2: got this. I think I think you're gonna be happy.
- 21:04Speaker 2: So remember we talked off stage and I told them
- 21:07Speaker 2: I have those fun questions. Well, my friend, it's time
- 21:12Speaker 2: for you to sit in the hot seat. Oh God,
- 21:18Speaker 2: at the top of the screen. So we all know
- 21:28Speaker 2: that female characters can be very, very strong headed. So
- 21:36Speaker 2: I'm gonna take two of the famous female characters that
- 21:40Speaker 2: everybody picks, Angela Bassett, Toweragi p Hanson. You cannot choose them, Okay, yep,
- 21:50Speaker 2: yep yeah. So if you can choose any female actress
- 21:57Speaker 2: to play the main character in your book between Wold
- 22:03Speaker 2: and three, who would she be? And why? You know what?
- 22:10Speaker 2: How dare you? Okay? Okay, all right, I'm gonna try
- 22:17Speaker 2: to be quick, although I'm drawing a blank, but I
- 22:19Speaker 2: got something for you, Okay. I was thinking on this
- 22:25Speaker 2: and I did get a suggestion that I think Mike
- 22:27Speaker 2: could work. And what's her name? The Wanda Wise she
- 22:31Speaker 2: played in she's it's the spike Ly Show on Netflix.
- 22:35Speaker 2: She got the light eyes and she's dark skinned. Is
- 22:38Speaker 2: it she's gotta have it? Or is she? Okay? You
- 22:40Speaker 2: got me stumped? Oh, y'all me, y'all know me that
- 22:44Speaker 2: I am right now the library and me she's gotta
- 22:50Speaker 2: have it. Yeah, it's the Wanda why she was in
- 22:53Speaker 2: also the Jurassic Park movie, the Black Lesbian Girl, you
- 22:58Speaker 2: know the one, the one? Oh? Okay, Yeah, I'm thinking
- 23:08Speaker 2: like her. I see that, I can see. So why
- 23:15Speaker 2: did you choose her? I think it's based on the
- 23:20Speaker 2: characters that she's played. You know, she can she comes
- 23:24Speaker 2: across quiet, although she does have a presence, and I
- 23:29Speaker 2: think that would be perfect for Deanna. And she's also
- 23:31Speaker 2: not shy about antics. That's what we gotta call it.
- 23:36Speaker 2: And I think this might I think that might be
- 23:39Speaker 2: great there, I think, so we have this character for Deanna.
- 23:45Speaker 2: But you know, all good movies, you gotta have a soundtrack.
- 23:50Speaker 2: What would be the soundtrack to the book between them? Oh?
- 23:56Speaker 2: And then then it has to be a twenties well,
- 24:03Speaker 2: twenties two thousand, No, you know what, We're gonna bring
- 24:09Speaker 2: it back. So you guys know, we all were sitting.
- 24:13Speaker 2: The majority of us were sitting in our house looking
- 24:16Speaker 2: at the verses this past weekend okay with no limit
- 24:20Speaker 2: versus cash money? You watch I didn't want it. I
- 24:27Speaker 2: know I didn't watch it. I took the weekend off
- 24:30Speaker 2: from life. I'm sorry, listen. I only called a little
- 24:35Speaker 2: bit of it what I was reading. I didn't mess much.
- 24:39Speaker 2: But let's say the song to your soundtrack has to
- 24:46Speaker 2: be a twenties rap song. Two thousand rap songs between
- 24:54Speaker 2: those two groups, what would it be that is? I
- 25:00Speaker 2: know I got you? Now you really did. I don't
- 25:02Speaker 2: even really listen to much rap music. I'm an R
- 25:05Speaker 2: and B girly all day. They do have some R
- 25:09Speaker 2: and B songs between them, because you know, master F
- 25:13Speaker 2: did I got the hook up? And Lord yeah, girl
- 25:19Speaker 2: you kind of got me? Didn't do any R and B?
- 25:23Speaker 2: Did I work up in the hot seat? Am I am?
- 25:25Speaker 2: I on fire? Because I I don't have an answer
- 25:29Speaker 2: for this, because I don't think any of that works.
- 25:31Speaker 2: I think of more like the old school soundtracks from
- 25:34Speaker 2: like the movies I grew up on, you know, like
- 25:36Speaker 2: it just feels more that way, even though it's a
- 25:39Speaker 2: little more like sexy you know, we grew up on
- 25:42Speaker 2: like what's called love and basketball and I Love Jones
- 25:47Speaker 2: and things like that. Those signs to soundtracks is probably
- 25:50Speaker 2: where I would go. Okay, so let's go there, let's
- 25:53Speaker 2: go to sit down. You went in to nineties R
- 25:56Speaker 2: and B and nineties are you got plenty of our
- 26:01Speaker 2: some trouble back in the days we've been only in
- 26:03Speaker 2: high school, couldn't tell us we've been in love. So
- 26:07Speaker 2: what song would be the title track to your book?
- 26:15Speaker 2: Between Wilder Meat? Like? What nineties R and B song? Oh,
- 26:21Speaker 2: I'm feeling like something by Mary J. I don't know why,
- 26:25Speaker 2: but I'm feeling something about Mary J because she was
- 26:28Speaker 2: kind of going through it and then you know, later
- 26:30Speaker 2: on life we see her getting up. So she's got
- 26:33Speaker 2: so much like my life, Like I'm that might be
- 26:38Speaker 2: it J in my life. That's I'm gonna say, just
- 26:41Speaker 2: give the whole album. I'm stealing an album. I'm so sorry.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Marriage is my life album. I think we all back
- 26:49Speaker 2: in those days have sung. We hadn't know what we singer,
- 26:53Speaker 2: but we were going down. You didn't tell us when
- 26:56Speaker 2: the little boy didn't pick us or we didn't get
- 26:58Speaker 2: our little sometimes day Giff and everybody else. We were
- 27:03Speaker 2: singing that song in the background calling their house on
- 27:06Speaker 2: the Star six to nine. Y'all, y'all, what y'all know
- 27:09Speaker 2: about that star? Six to make sure you undo the
- 27:12Speaker 2: star six months? Yes, and then you used to write
- 27:18Speaker 2: a little bad note you are not we are not
- 27:22Speaker 2: mm when you break up with your boyfriend. Oh you
- 27:25Speaker 2: cut like because you thought you were so cute, Like
- 27:29Speaker 2: you need a dance because you cut like. I remember
- 27:34Speaker 2: giving a guy back his letterman's jacket. I don't even
- 27:36Speaker 2: want when you steak jacket, no more. I want that jacket.
- 27:41Speaker 2: I asked you a special walking around you know. Yeah,
- 27:44Speaker 2: we had you guys. We just told all of our age. Okay,
- 27:50Speaker 2: so my life Mary j blind soundtrack. But guess what
- 27:55Speaker 2: Lifetime said. They love your character, They love the soundtrack,
- 28:01Speaker 2: and they want to do a movie about you. So
- 28:06Speaker 2: who anybody, it does not matter who it is. Would
- 28:10Speaker 2: you give the honor of playing you in your biopic?
- 28:16Speaker 2: Ooh ooh, I'm feeling like, can I marry two characters
- 28:27Speaker 2: some film? Like I got like partis you got some
- 28:31Speaker 2: biple of this? I am a Gemini. I am a Gemini.
- 28:36Speaker 2: He he everybody, Hey, that's the right boy. These two
- 28:40Speaker 2: sides that come their handsy. I feel like me could
- 28:42Speaker 2: be like sonohilate that and the other side could be
- 28:46Speaker 2: you know, because I am just as awkward. That is
- 28:51Speaker 2: a This would be a great movie. I would I
- 28:57Speaker 2: would watch that. I would love to see them do
- 29:00Speaker 2: a comedy movie together because you know, both of them
- 29:02Speaker 2: are great characters. Who was the one where uh the
- 29:06Speaker 2: young girl and it's not little but little? Yes, I
- 29:12Speaker 2: would love to see Sonilas and Eastern ray through little.
- 29:17Speaker 2: That would be that would happen to be awesome with
- 29:20Speaker 2: a little bit. Oh, that would be. That was my idea.
- 29:26Speaker 2: So if y'all looking at that, that was my idea.
- 29:32Speaker 2: I want my cut in the deal. So before we end,
- 29:38Speaker 2: what would you like to say to your old readers,
- 29:41Speaker 2: the readers you are gaining tonight, and the readers that
- 29:44Speaker 2: will watch the replay of this podcast. What would you
- 29:47Speaker 2: like to say to them? Well, first of all, I'd
- 29:49Speaker 2: like to say thank you, thank you for tuning in here,
- 29:51Speaker 2: and thank you for reading my book. If you have,
- 29:54Speaker 2: thank you for thinking about it. If this is convention,
- 29:56Speaker 2: and thank you for going forward and actually doing it later,
- 29:59Speaker 2: If I hope that this gives you as much pleasure
- 30:02Speaker 2: to read as it gave me to write it. It
- 30:05Speaker 2: took me forever. Just ask my cousin because she was
- 30:08Speaker 2: on my back. But I do not think you will
- 30:11Speaker 2: hate it. I think you will love it. And I
- 30:14Speaker 2: think sometimes we do have to read just because it
- 30:17Speaker 2: is thrilling. So I appreciate that reading to take your
- 30:22Speaker 2: mind off of what's going on today is beautiful. I
- 30:27Speaker 2: mean because if you're sitting up here and you watch TV,
- 30:30Speaker 2: if you're sitting up here and you're listening to the radio,
- 30:32Speaker 2: if you're sitting up here and you're reading newspaper, you're
- 30:35Speaker 2: going to become depressed. Yes, it's a list if you
- 30:41Speaker 2: this reading is just like some other other people's form
- 30:45Speaker 2: of music. For me, I can do reading and music,
- 30:49Speaker 2: and I really do love to reading, especially once you
- 30:51Speaker 2: eat book and I can sit on the desk at
- 30:54Speaker 2: work and read the book. Yes, you know what I'm saying.
- 30:58Speaker 2: So give us to rundown because we want to be
- 31:01Speaker 2: able to follow you. Read Brownstone Magazine, social media. Get

- 32:06Speaker 2: just positive of lifting us. It is beautiful. We put
- 32:09Speaker 2: a lot of work into it because we need this.
- 32:11Speaker 2: We need books, we need fiction, but we also need
- 32:14Speaker 2: things that can us in all other areas, so spirituality, health, fashion,

- 32:23Speaker 2: is the space for us. And you can see Our
- 32:26Speaker 2: first issue is available for download and our second one
- 32:30Speaker 2: will be there on Thursday, and you can also follow
- 32:33Speaker 2: the Brownstone on TikTok and Instagram as well. So there
- 32:38Speaker 2: you go. You guys, you got the whole runnow in
- 32:42Speaker 2: the book? Is it? Is it out already? The book
- 32:45Speaker 2: is out. It came out last month. It's on Barnesonnoble
- 32:48Speaker 2: dot com right now, and this weekend everything should be
- 32:52Speaker 2: launching so that it can be available for e book
- 32:55Speaker 2: next week. Okay, So it's the book going to be
- 32:59Speaker 2: a barn to Noble or is it going to be
- 33:01Speaker 2: on Amazon. It's gonna it's going to be on both.
- 33:05Speaker 2: But I will give more when it's more solid because
- 33:07Speaker 2: it is still in the uploading and all of that phase.
- 33:10Speaker 2: But it will be Barnes and Noble as well as Amazon,
- 33:12Speaker 2: and then I'll be more vocal about it when it's
- 33:15Speaker 2: actually available. So you guys, I'll make sure that she
- 33:19Speaker 2: tags me in it, or whenever I see it, I'll
- 33:21Speaker 2: share it to my social media, or that you know
- 33:24Speaker 2: when it comes out on ebooks if you're one of
- 33:25Speaker 2: those book lovers. But if you want to go ahead
- 33:29Speaker 2: and grab your copy, remember she said Barns and Noble
- 33:33Speaker 2: paper back. I know we really haven't talk much about
- 33:36Speaker 2: Barnes and Noble. But Barns and Noble is trying to
- 33:39Speaker 2: make a comeback. You know that I have to min
- 33:43Speaker 2: Amazon kind of slipping. You gotta pay attention Amazon kind
- 33:47Speaker 2: of slipping. And there's some authors that are actually drawing
- 33:49Speaker 2: away from Amazon because Amazon is wanting to get more royalty,
- 33:54Speaker 2: so they trying to get more of the cut. And
- 33:56Speaker 2: why are they trying to get more to cut? Because
- 33:58Speaker 2: a lot of indie authors are saying, Hey, we're gonna
- 34:00Speaker 2: go to Amazon and books op book. But guess what,
- 34:02Speaker 2: there are other places other than Amazon. And you heard
- 34:04Speaker 2: it from me, so y'all go ahead and sleep on
- 34:08Speaker 2: Barnes and Noble. Man. But I've seen a lot of
- 34:11Speaker 2: indie authors are now heading over to the Barnes and
- 34:13Speaker 2: Noble world before they go to the Amazon world. And
- 34:17Speaker 2: I just recently saw that trend that want to say
- 34:20Speaker 2: about maybe the past three four months that I've had
- 34:25Speaker 2: a lot of authors say my book is on Barnes
- 34:27Speaker 2: and Noble and I'm like, well, hold up Barnes and Noble.
- 34:32Speaker 2: That's like, yeahs on Barnes and Noble. Oh you don't
- 34:35Speaker 2: do Amazon. No. And that's all because my Amazon started
- 34:38Speaker 2: to get more of a cut, and authors are like, no,
- 34:41Speaker 2: we know our work. We're going to Amazon. And another
- 34:44Speaker 2: one this is the old one, but a lot of
- 34:46Speaker 2: people are going to Lulu smash Words. I'm not hearing
- 34:54Speaker 2: much of a grinding about smash Word, but I know
- 34:56Speaker 2: Lulu was coming. And there's a another one I've heard,
- 35:03Speaker 2: and I've heard that one today and I can't remember.
- 35:05Speaker 2: I got written down here some boys that I was
- 35:07Speaker 2: gonna do some research. But you guys, don't worry, because
- 35:11Speaker 2: in twenty twenty six, we're gonna be doing some little excerpts.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Y'all find it on my YouTube plannel channel, and we're
- 35:17Speaker 2: gonna be talk We're gonna be talking to some indie
- 35:20Speaker 2: office and giving y'all some some more avenues to get
- 35:25Speaker 2: those revenues. Okay, So, miss Joy, I would lad to
- 35:30Speaker 2: thank you for being with me tonight. Thank you so
- 35:32Speaker 2: much for having me. I really appreciate it. This has
- 35:35Speaker 2: been a ton of fun. So you're gonna have fun today,
- 35:38Speaker 2: you good guys. Go grab a copy of Between Wild
- 35:43Speaker 2: and Free by Miss Melanie Joy right on Marn's and Noble.
- 35:49Speaker 2: And if you are an ebook person, like I said,
- 35:51Speaker 2: we'll keep you updated y'all, go ahead and grab a coffee.
- 35:54Speaker 2: What you're gonna wait for? Just go ahead and grab
- 35:56Speaker 2: a copy. Okay, listen to you know about you guys.
- 36:04Speaker 2: This is another Tuesday night in the book. I'm going
- 36:07Speaker 2: to be home next week. I miss my baby girl,
- 36:11Speaker 2: but she know mommy is out here trying to make
- 36:12Speaker 2: sure that these black authors get the recognition that they need.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Next week, I'm going to have author Neely with me.
- 36:20Speaker 2: She just conferred tonight. I am so excited. I did
- 36:25Speaker 2: a blog with her, and now me and her are
- 36:28Speaker 2: going to talk face to face next Tuesday night at
- 36:31Speaker 2: eight o'clock. But you guys, you know what next week? Tuesday? Right?
- 36:36Speaker 2: You know what day that is, right, y'all don't know
- 36:40Speaker 2: it's November Fred, It's election day. So listen here. I
- 36:47Speaker 2: do not have any elections that are going on where
- 36:49Speaker 2: I live, Okay, but I am going to be a
- 36:52Speaker 2: poll worker or now I'm going to do my due
- 36:55Speaker 2: jailing things. But don't start complaining when things don't happen. Okay.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Remember we were telling people what was going to happen
- 37:10Speaker 2: when the little Orange man got to the seat. Now
- 37:12Speaker 2: they're seeing for itself. So I know we took back
- 37:16Speaker 2: the we ain't doing it. It's on y'all action. But
- 37:20Speaker 2: now we got to put a little action into you guys.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Next week, get out and vote. Okay, get out and vote.
- 37:32Speaker 2: We have to make the changes now if we want
- 37:35Speaker 2: to see the changes coming up. Okay, because y'all a
- 37:38Speaker 2: lot of people think that the change happens on that
- 37:43Speaker 2: national level. Novable. It starts at your city, in your state,
- 37:49Speaker 2: and then it makes its way up. There are a
- 37:51Speaker 2: lot of state senate races, people getting tired, people getting
- 37:59Speaker 2: tired of having people be in office for years in
- 38:03Speaker 2: years in years. Y'all ain't doing that. We get so,
- 38:11Speaker 2: you guys, as much as I love the books, I'm
- 38:14Speaker 2: gonna tell y'all, we need to get out there. We
- 38:16Speaker 2: need to make our voices heard. Remember this Tuesday cold vote.
- 38:22Speaker 2: So if you're in line and my show comes on,
- 38:24Speaker 2: catch the replay because you know the replay is instant
- 38:26Speaker 2: on based on YouTube. Okay, so like tonight, if you
- 38:30Speaker 2: miss anything, go catch the replay. But next week Tuesday.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Remember there's no such thing as an old book because
- 38:37Speaker 2: not everybody has read every book. Good night, everyone, Go
- 38:49Speaker 2: and vote, people, Go and vote, people,
