Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, Welcome to the Inside the Birds Week seventeen NFL
- 0:13Speaker 1: preview on Jeff Mosher. And this is exactly the way
- 0:18Speaker 1: the NFL loves it and wants it, because as you
- 0:22Speaker 1: enter the penultimate week in the NFL, there is only
- 0:27Speaker 1: one team that has actually clinched a division. That is
- 0:30Speaker 1: the Eagles, who have clinched the NFC East last week.
- 0:34Speaker 1: They are in. They are guaranteed themselves of a top
- 0:37Speaker 1: four seed, most likely going to be the three seed.
- 0:40Speaker 1: We'll see how things shake out. They have to play
- 0:42Speaker 1: Buffalo obviously on Sunday in a big game. But every
- 0:47Speaker 1: other division, every other division in the NFL has either
- 0:53Speaker 1: not been clinched or you still have it may not
- 0:56Speaker 1: even be clinched by the end of this weekend. Looks
- 1:00Speaker 1: like there are several divisions, several seeds, and some last
- 1:05Speaker 1: second wild card spots that will be grabbed in Week eighteen.
- 1:10Speaker 1: And that makes this week and the following week two
- 1:14Speaker 1: of the most exciting weeks in football. And there's football
- 1:17Speaker 1: played on Saturday and Sunday and Monday and Thursday, so
- 1:22Speaker 1: you're getting throughout this holiday season a ton of very
- 1:27Speaker 1: very big games. And again, this is exactly what the
- 1:32Speaker 1: NFL loves. I didn't really talk about the Chiefs in
- 1:36Speaker 1: the last episode, just the fact that they are not
- 1:40Speaker 1: going to be in the playoffs. This is the first
- 1:44Speaker 1: time in about a decade that you're not going to
- 1:47Speaker 1: see Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. Forget about being in
- 1:50Speaker 1: the playoffs, not in the AFC Championship game, certainly not
- 1:55Speaker 1: contending for a Super Bowl. And right now as we speak,
- 2:00Speaker 1: as I record this, the Baltimore Ravens are really on
- 2:04Speaker 1: the outside. They need a lot, not eliminated, but they
- 2:07Speaker 1: need a ton of help. They need to win and
- 2:10Speaker 1: some help to get in to the playoffs. So you're
- 2:13Speaker 1: not seeing the Chiefs, the Ravens, the Lions are very
- 2:19Speaker 1: unlikely to be in the playoffs, the Cowboys again, so
- 2:24Speaker 1: this is sort of a little bit of a new era.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I don't know how long this is going to go.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I would expect that the Chiefs and Mahomes and Andy Reid,
- 2:33Speaker 1: you have not heard the last of them. Competitors do
- 2:36Speaker 1: not die easily, and I have a feeling that this
- 2:40Speaker 1: time being out of the playoffs will give the Chiefs
- 2:44Speaker 1: and Andy Reid especially some time to regroup, rethink. He's
- 2:49Speaker 1: obviously not getting fired. But if you remember how it
- 2:52Speaker 1: ended for Andy Reid in Philadelphia, a couple of subpar seasons,
- 2:57Speaker 1: he gets fired, gets a new job, chiefs in about
- 3:00Speaker 1: two seconds. But he wasn't the same person he took
- 3:04Speaker 1: that time. He did some different things. He hired some
- 3:07Speaker 1: people on his staff that weren't all from Philadelphia, started
- 3:11Speaker 1: running the pistol more got Alex Smith, did some different
- 3:14Speaker 1: things offensively and sort of even until before he got
- 3:18Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes, sort of started to rethink and recreate his offense.
- 3:22Speaker 1: He even he even hired a defensive coordinator to start
- 3:26Speaker 1: his career who ran a three to four and forever
- 3:28Speaker 1: Andy Reid was forever a four to three guy. I
- 3:30Speaker 1: wound up. I had a conversation with Andy, I privately
- 3:33Speaker 1: won a long, long time ago in his office and
- 3:35Speaker 1: we were talking about why he was such a proponent
- 3:39Speaker 1: of the four to three and it was just a
- 3:43Speaker 1: core defensive philosophy he believed in. Even though most teams
- 3:46Speaker 1: were going to a three to four because of all
- 3:48Speaker 1: the tweener type of ed rushers that were coming out
- 3:51Speaker 1: of college that were more suited to stand up and
- 3:54Speaker 1: rush and drop and cover, A lot of teams were
- 3:57Speaker 1: going to the three four, but Andy was a four
- 3:59Speaker 1: to three guy. But when he got to the Chiefs,
- 4:02Speaker 1: he hired a defensive coordinator someuton who wanted to run,
- 4:06Speaker 1: who was steeped in the three four, and did it.
- 4:09Speaker 1: So Andy showed that he was capable of changing things
- 4:13Speaker 1: up and reinventing himself. And I do believe not making
- 4:19Speaker 1: the playoffs this year, Patrick Mahomes having an injury, I
- 4:22Speaker 1: think Andy will be real with himself. I don't think
- 4:25Speaker 1: he'll look and say, you know, the Mahomes injury was
- 4:28Speaker 1: like the reason they weren't in the playoffs. They were
- 4:30Speaker 1: getting eliminated anyway, they weren't doing well. I think he
- 4:34Speaker 1: will take this time and this opportunity to do a
- 4:37Speaker 1: lot of self scouting, introspection. And it would not shock
- 4:41Speaker 1: me at all if the Chiefs came back next year.
- 4:45Speaker 1: And I'm gonna go ahead and assume, just based on
- 4:49Speaker 1: what we know of Mahomes that if he's not available
- 4:52Speaker 1: for week one, it's not gonna be too long. I mean,
- 4:55Speaker 1: he'll play in September of next year. I'd be shocked
- 4:58Speaker 1: if they waited all the way and talked to over
- 5:01Speaker 1: That's just how Mahome seems wired and built, and I
- 5:03Speaker 1: think he's going to be ready to go and motivated.
- 5:06Speaker 1: But to me, both those guys have to take a
- 5:09Speaker 1: look at the mirror, have to sort of reinvent and
- 5:12Speaker 1: redesign who they are and what they've done. Tom Brady
- 5:16Speaker 1: did this. Tom Brady over the second half of his career, coincidentally,
- 5:20Speaker 1: probably after tearing his ACL, became a different kind of quarterback.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Now that also coincided with him going to different offensive coordinators.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Remember it was you know, you know, for a while,
- 5:32Speaker 1: it was Bill O'Brien the two tight end, and then
- 5:34Speaker 1: it was Josh McDaniels and the three wide. But Brady
- 5:37Speaker 1: became a guy who was a timing, rhythm passer, always
- 5:43Speaker 1: getting the ball out, knowing where he wanted to go
- 5:45Speaker 1: before just based on the defensive look. That's what made
- 5:48Speaker 1: Brady unbelievable. It was never the physical talents of Tom Brady.
- 5:52Speaker 1: He never had an arm like Marino or just natural
- 5:57Speaker 1: physical gifts like Aaron Rodgers, but he was always one
- 6:00Speaker 1: step ahead of what the defense wanted to do. And
- 6:04Speaker 1: I think at this point for Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid,
- 6:08Speaker 1: they need to start playing the game a little differently.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Not losing er any of their creativity, but not always
- 6:15Speaker 1: relying on hanging in the pocket and Mahomes making freelance
- 6:19Speaker 1: movements and doing second reaction plays. They certainly need a
- 6:24Speaker 1: running game again. I think that that was a big
- 6:26Speaker 1: impediment for what they wanted to do. Even though Andy
- 6:28Speaker 1: loves to pass the ball, He's always had a really
- 6:30Speaker 1: good running back, one who can catch and run. He
- 6:34Speaker 1: just hasn't had that lately. But I definitely think that
- 6:38Speaker 1: these guys will take this time off and it'll be
- 6:41Speaker 1: a little bit of a humble pie, and they'll both
- 6:43Speaker 1: look in the mirror and they'll both say, what do
- 6:45Speaker 1: we have to do now to get back to the top,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Because a lot of what we were doing people were
- 6:50Speaker 1: figuring out and we just weren't as effective. And that
- 6:53Speaker 1: doesn't mean Mahomes wasn't great, or that Andy Reid wasn't great.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Doesn't mean that all of a sudden they're bad at
- 7:00Speaker 1: what they do. But you know, the Eagles have been
- 7:02Speaker 1: going through this. When you do what you do for
- 7:04Speaker 1: a long time and you're successful at it, you do
- 7:07Speaker 1: have to reinvent yourself and you constantly have to stay
- 7:10Speaker 1: ahead of your competitors. Who are burning the candle at
- 7:14Speaker 1: both ends to beat you, because that's how good the
- 7:16Speaker 1: Chiefs have been for so long, and their division foes
- 7:20Speaker 1: have gotten better. Clearly, the Broncos are now are very good,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and the Chargers are very good. You can't rely on,
- 7:25Speaker 1: you know, six to let's say, four to six wins.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I mean the Raiders. Yes, you can rely on them
- 7:30Speaker 1: for some wins. But it's a very competitive division now.
- 7:35Speaker 1: And obviously you've seen some new teams in the AFC emerge.
- 7:38Speaker 1: But I absolutely positively believe the Chiefs will be back.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I don't think their dynasty is over. I don't think
- 7:47Speaker 1: Andy Reid's going to call it quits and hand it
- 7:49Speaker 1: off and walk off into the sunset. I think he's
- 7:51Speaker 1: going to be just knowing how he is. I don't
- 7:54Speaker 1: talk to Andy as much as I used to, every
- 7:55Speaker 1: once in a while, running to him at the combine
- 7:58Speaker 1: and we chat text message here and there. But I
- 8:01Speaker 1: know a lot of people still who are in his circle,
- 8:04Speaker 1: and I talk to them, and I just know how
- 8:07Speaker 1: Andy is wired, and I really do believe that he
- 8:11Speaker 1: will come back more motivated, more driven to figure out
- 8:16Speaker 1: what he needs to figure out and reinvent his offense
- 8:19Speaker 1: and his franchise. He'll make changes if he has to
- 8:22Speaker 1: make changes. He's never been afraid of that, and I
- 8:25Speaker 1: think the same Mahomes. I think they will come back
- 8:27Speaker 1: absolutely determined to right all the wrongs of this year
- 8:32Speaker 1: and then even getting embarrassed in the Super Bowl at
- 8:35Speaker 1: the end of last year. So, if you're in the AFC,
- 8:38Speaker 1: you're in the NFC, you're a team like the Rams,
- 8:40Speaker 1: or you're an aging team right like the Rams, or
- 8:43Speaker 1: maybe even the Ravens if they can still hang on. Here,
- 8:45Speaker 1: the Bills, this is your shot. You've got the Chiefs
- 8:48Speaker 1: out of the playoffs. This is your opportunity to show
- 8:54Speaker 1: what you can do and win the Super Bowl before
- 8:56Speaker 1: the Chiefs reload and have a new vision come back
- 9:00Speaker 1: very strong. But again without the Chiefs, then you know
- 9:03Speaker 1: that there's new blood here, certainly the Jaguars. I'm going
- 9:09Speaker 1: to go through a couple of teams that I've been
- 9:11Speaker 1: woefully wrong about and issue my MI at COPA right now,
- 9:14Speaker 1: Jaguars eleven or four. They have a game against the
- 9:17Speaker 1: Colts this weekend, and their defense has been spectacular and
- 9:21Speaker 1: their offense lately has really come around surprisingly. I mean
- 9:26Speaker 1: their offense was so bad for the first eight weeks
- 9:29Speaker 1: that I just couldn't give them the credit that their
- 9:33Speaker 1: record suggested they deserved. I honestly thought that they were
- 9:36Speaker 1: getting lucky. I remember Trevor Lawrence beating the Chiefs on
- 9:39Speaker 1: a last second touchdown where he sort of willed the
- 9:42Speaker 1: team to win with a run, and instead of giving
- 9:45Speaker 1: the credit, I probably said that that was luck. And
- 9:48Speaker 1: I always felt that there was something missing from Jacksonville. Well,
- 9:51Speaker 1: they have been an extremely hot team. They are on
- 9:54Speaker 1: top of the AFC South. They play a Colts team
- 9:58Speaker 1: on Sunday one o'clock. They are five and a half
- 10:00Speaker 1: point favorites. You know, the Colts have just been a
- 10:03Speaker 1: disaster ever since losing Daniel Jones. They were already slipping.
- 10:09Speaker 1: They are obviously trying to hang in there as much
- 10:12Speaker 1: as they possibly can. And you I credit Philip Rivers.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I mean he played really well for being a forty
- 10:18Speaker 1: four year old quarterback in that game against the Niners.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I mean, I know they lost by twenty one, it
- 10:23Speaker 1: was a little closer than that until the end. But
- 10:25Speaker 1: the bottom line is the Colts have lost five in
- 10:28Speaker 1: a row. I mean, this is a team that was
- 10:29Speaker 1: once eight and one. They're eight and seven. They got
- 10:32Speaker 1: to end the year against the Jags and the Texans,
- 10:35Speaker 1: all right, so they're probably gonna lose both games to
- 10:37Speaker 1: finish eight and nine. And that's just the unfortunate part.
- 10:41Speaker 1: The one thing I think I was right about, but
- 10:43Speaker 1: this division is I didn't like that trade for them.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I didn't like going and getting Sauce Gardner and giving
- 10:49Speaker 1: up two first round picks because to me, it meant
- 10:51Speaker 1: that you were tied to Daniel Jones for the future,
- 10:55Speaker 1: because now you're not going to have first round picks.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And then what happens Daniel Jones gets hurt and how
- 11:00Speaker 1: he's out for the rest of the year, and he's
- 11:01Speaker 1: already had an ACL injury, so this is a second
- 11:05Speaker 1: major injury for Daniel Jones, and now the Colts still
- 11:11Speaker 1: have to tie themselves to him. Now, he should be
- 11:13Speaker 1: back by next year, and we'll see. There should be
- 11:18Speaker 1: a good team. I mean, obviously have a very good roster,
- 11:21Speaker 1: but you're banking on Daniel Jones coming back from the
- 11:24Speaker 1: second major injury to play at a really high level,
- 11:27Speaker 1: and I'm just not sure that that's going to be
- 11:31Speaker 1: great for the Colts. And then Sauce Gardner wound up
- 11:34Speaker 1: getting hurt and missing a few games. Now he should
- 11:36Speaker 1: be back. But you know, they're really gonna have to
- 11:38Speaker 1: pour everything into Daniel Jones over the next two years
- 11:41Speaker 1: without a first round pick, or they're gonna have to
- 11:43Speaker 1: get creative. And we don't even know what the future is.
- 11:46Speaker 1: You know, obviously the Cults are owned by Urs's children
- 11:50Speaker 1: and his daughters now, and we have no idea what
- 11:53Speaker 1: they're going to do. We have no idea if they'll
- 11:55Speaker 1: keep stiking, if they'll keep Chris Ballard of the GM.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Everything is uncertain with that frame, and it only got
- 12:01Speaker 1: compounded with them losing all these games and falling out
- 12:04Speaker 1: if they were at one point the number one seed
- 12:07Speaker 1: in the AFC. All right, that's why you know you
- 12:08Speaker 1: always say the playoffs don't start in until you know,
- 12:12Speaker 1: you don't even get a good idea of a team
- 12:14Speaker 1: until Thanksgiving. Okay, That's why you know, when team starts
- 12:18Speaker 1: off six and one or seven to one, you can't
- 12:20Speaker 1: get too crazy with them. But you know by Thanksgiving
- 12:23Speaker 1: they had lost two or three and then four straight losses,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and now the Colts be I don't I don't see
- 12:30Speaker 1: a pathway for them to get into the playoffs at
- 12:34Speaker 1: eight and seven and unlikely to lose I'm sorry, unlikely
- 12:37Speaker 1: to win the next two games. So Jacksonville has been great.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Now Houston is nipping at their heels. So while Jacksonville
- 12:47Speaker 1: has the Colts at one o'clock, Houston is playing Saturday night. Right,
- 12:52Speaker 1: they're playing. They'll already know what happens because they have
- 12:55Speaker 1: a huge game out west against the Chargers. That's the
- 12:59Speaker 1: four thirty game. The Chargers want to have play favorites.
- 13:02Speaker 1: You have to give the Chargers a ton of credit.
- 13:04Speaker 1: They are operating with one of the worst offensive lines
- 13:08Speaker 1: in football. Not their fault. They just had injuries to
- 13:10Speaker 1: both of their tackles. They've had injuries to their interior
- 13:13Speaker 1: offensive line. I mean they are they are put together
- 13:18Speaker 1: with bubblegum and popsicle sticks on the old line. But
- 13:21Speaker 1: Justin Herbert has played out of his mind. This will
- 13:24Speaker 1: be a great game again. The Chargers want to have
- 13:26Speaker 1: play favorites. But you got to love the way Houston
- 13:29Speaker 1: has been playing. They have an opportunity to still win
- 13:34Speaker 1: the NFC South, all right, They've got to win this game.
- 13:38Speaker 1: They have an opportunity to also not make the playoffs.
- 13:40Speaker 1: They have not clinched a playoff berth yet, all right,
- 13:44Speaker 1: so you know that they are going to be absolutely
- 13:47Speaker 1: motivated to win this game. They can still win the
- 13:50Speaker 1: AFC South, they have to win out, I believe, and
- 13:53Speaker 1: then Jacksonville has to lose one of their next too.
- 13:56Speaker 1: So there's a ton on the line here for the
- 13:59Speaker 1: Houston t but it starts with this Chargers game, and
- 14:02Speaker 1: it should be a great game. The Chargers likewise, they
- 14:05Speaker 1: have made the playoffs right as we sit here now,
- 14:10Speaker 1: they have made the playoffs. They are eleven and four.
- 14:14Speaker 1: They're sitting in the five pole, so it's a good
- 14:17Speaker 1: spot for them. They would play theoretically the Steelers if
- 14:21Speaker 1: the Steelers hold on to the number four seed in
- 14:23Speaker 1: the first round, and you'd kind of like the Chargers
- 14:26Speaker 1: in that game, just because the Chargers have played really
- 14:29Speaker 1: well and Justin Herbert is playing well. But if you're
- 14:34Speaker 1: the Chargers, you know, you don't want to lose ground.
- 14:37Speaker 1: You probably don't want to fall to the six or
- 14:39Speaker 1: the seventh seed. You like to stay where you're at.
- 14:41Speaker 1: So the Chargers will be motivated. But I think there's
- 14:43Speaker 1: even more motivation on the part of the Texans. Now,
- 14:48Speaker 1: they're a little banged up, as they always are, but
- 14:52Speaker 1: they have won seven straight games. Right. They are on
- 14:55Speaker 1: fire right now, and they've beaten some good teams. They've
- 14:58Speaker 1: beaten the Jags, they be in the Bills, you know,
- 15:01Speaker 1: they had to beat the Colts. They beat the Chiefs
- 15:05Speaker 1: twenty to ten, so they are rolling. This game will
- 15:08Speaker 1: be a really tough game for them. This will be
- 15:11Speaker 1: a I would I assume to be a low scoring game,
- 15:16Speaker 1: probably come down to the fourth quarter. And if the
- 15:19Speaker 1: Texans win, they're going to feel really good about themselves,
- 15:24Speaker 1: especially knowing that the Jaguars probably have a win against
- 15:28Speaker 1: the Colts and a win against the Titans in their
- 15:30Speaker 1: next two games. So if they got any chance, the
- 15:33Speaker 1: Houston wants any chance of winning the ANFC South, they
- 15:35Speaker 1: got to win these next two games, right, and hope
- 15:38Speaker 1: that the Jaguars slip up against one of those two teams.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I like Houston in this game, not by a ton.
- 15:46Speaker 1: The Chargers are playing great. I cannot take anything away
- 15:49Speaker 1: from how well the Chargers were playing. It's another team
- 15:51Speaker 1: I was wrong about when they lost their linemen. I
- 15:54Speaker 1: thought that they were done. They are not. They have
- 15:57Speaker 1: won I believe four in a row. They've ran the
- 15:59Speaker 1: ball fairly well, which has surprised me, not because that's
- 16:05Speaker 1: what they obviously they want to run the ball well.
- 16:07Speaker 1: But I thought with the losses of their offensive linemen
- 16:10Speaker 1: they will be in trouble. But you know, they reeled
- 16:12Speaker 1: off four straight wins Raiders, Eagles, Chiefs, Cowboys. They've actually
- 16:16Speaker 1: won seven of their last eight with only lost to
- 16:19Speaker 1: the Jaguars before their bye week. And they end against
- 16:23Speaker 1: the Texans and the Broncos. So that's not an easy
- 16:27Speaker 1: schedule there for the Chargers. Luckily for them, they've already
- 16:30Speaker 1: made the playoffs. Let's see who else we want to
- 16:35Speaker 1: talk about here. You know, obviously the NFC West. Oh sorry,
- 16:38Speaker 1: let me let me get to the Packers because that's
- 16:41Speaker 1: the Saturday night game too. Packers are hosting the Ravens.
- 16:44Speaker 1: The Ravens are down to their last I don't know
- 16:48Speaker 1: what's going on with them. That was a really strange
- 16:51Speaker 1: game to watch the other last weekend against Sunday Night
- 16:55Speaker 1: against the Patriots. They took the lead, then Derrick on
- 17:01Speaker 1: a Henry touchdown, and then Henry doesn't touch the ball
- 17:05Speaker 1: again as the Patriots come back. So you give the
- 17:07Speaker 1: Patriots a lot of credit. That was great, great job
- 17:10Speaker 1: by them. I don't know what the Ravens were thinking.
- 17:14Speaker 1: The Ravens have now lost three of their last four games.
- 17:18Speaker 1: They're a hard team to figure out. Lamar is always hurt.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I mean, he's been battling one injury after another. He
- 17:24Speaker 1: came out of that game with a back contrusion. I
- 17:28Speaker 1: believe it was so he is doubtful to play. And
- 17:32Speaker 1: now they're going up against the Packers team that is
- 17:35Speaker 1: also struggling because Jordan Love is going to be out
- 17:39Speaker 1: with a concussion. So you've got two really really important games, right,
- 17:44Speaker 1: two teams that are really trying to survive here, and
- 17:47Speaker 1: the Packers are going to be on their backup Milik Willis,
- 17:50Speaker 1: who's done a good job, by the way. Now they
- 17:52Speaker 1: lost to the Bears. We all saw. I mean it
- 17:55Speaker 1: was a crazy game. I won't put it on Milik Willis.
- 17:57Speaker 1: He didn't do anything wrong. The Bears just came and
- 18:00Speaker 1: you know, get the touchdown, get the Hunts. I can't
- 18:02Speaker 1: get the touchdown. I mean it was like bing bang boom,
- 18:05Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, the Bears, who were about
- 18:07Speaker 1: to lose a game and about to lose their spot
- 18:10Speaker 1: is as the number two seed in the playoffs. All
- 18:13Speaker 1: of a sudden bam, they're right back up at eleven
- 18:16Speaker 1: and four. The Packers are nine to five one. The
- 18:18Speaker 1: Packers are in the playoffs, they don't have to worry
- 18:20Speaker 1: about it, so that's not their issue. But you know
- 18:24Speaker 1: they're trying to finish strong and they were trying to
- 18:26Speaker 1: win the NFC North. But now without Jordan Love, with
- 18:30Speaker 1: Milik Willis in against a Ravens team that I don't
- 18:33Speaker 1: know what to expect from them, it'll be a very
- 18:36Speaker 1: interesting game. The Packers are still three point favorites. I
- 18:38Speaker 1: will say this, the Packers have played well with Malik
- 18:42Speaker 1: Willis throughout the last few years. When he's come in,
- 18:44Speaker 1: he's had to start games. They've won games with Malik Willis.
- 18:48Speaker 1: So I think Milik has found a good home, good
- 18:50Speaker 1: coaching staff, getting out of Tennessee, playing for Matt Lafleur,
- 18:54Speaker 1: sitting behind Jordan Love. So if you ask me, I'll
- 18:59Speaker 1: give my pick later. But I wouldn't be surprised if
- 19:02Speaker 1: Green Bay pulled this one out. They can still win
- 19:05Speaker 1: the NFC New Earth, but what they need to do
- 19:08Speaker 1: is win out and I believe they need the Bears
- 19:12Speaker 1: to lose out so it'll be very interesting because it's
- 19:17Speaker 1: not like the Bears have an easy schedule. So if
- 19:19Speaker 1: you want to look, the Bears obviously have to play
- 19:21Speaker 1: the forty nine Ers in the night game Sunday night game,
- 19:24Speaker 1: and then they end against the Lions. The Packers obviously
- 19:28Speaker 1: have to play the Ravens and then they finished against
- 19:31Speaker 1: the Vikings, So it's possible. I don't know if the
- 19:35Speaker 1: Bears are going to slip up twice. I could see
- 19:37Speaker 1: the Bears losing to the forty nine ers. I don't
- 19:39Speaker 1: know if they're gonna lose at home against the Lions
- 19:43Speaker 1: the way the Lions have been playing, but anything is possible.
- 19:46Speaker 1: So Green Bay. Green Bay just needs to win these
- 19:51Speaker 1: games and see what happens. And you know, in some regards,
- 19:55Speaker 1: even though they don't have Jordan Love, they get a
- 19:56Speaker 1: little bit of a gift in Baltimore coming to town
- 19:59Speaker 1: and not probably probably not having Lamar Jackson. The NFC
- 20:04Speaker 1: West is still way way up for grabs and it's
- 20:08Speaker 1: certainly the most exciting division in football right now. Seattle
- 20:12Speaker 1: leads at twelve and three that they have to play
- 20:15Speaker 1: the Panther they have to travel across the country and
- 20:18Speaker 1: play the Panthers, Okay, which is not an easy thing
- 20:22Speaker 1: to do for Seattle. They should win to the better team,
- 20:25Speaker 1: but the Panthers at home, plus the Panthers every other week,
- 20:28Speaker 1: decided to play like a true contender. They are bolstered
- 20:33Speaker 1: by the fact that they did beat the Bucks to
- 20:35Speaker 1: take the NFC South lead. Right so they lead the
- 20:38Speaker 1: NFC South at eight and seven right now, but the
- 20:40Speaker 1: Bucks are right there at seven and eight, and that
- 20:42Speaker 1: thing can go neck and next. So the Panthers will
- 20:43Speaker 1: be motivated to win every game. This will not be
- 20:46Speaker 1: easy for Seattle, and they're sort of the guinea pig.
- 20:49Speaker 1: They go first, they get that game, and then later
- 20:52Speaker 1: at night you got the Rams, who are also traveling
- 20:55Speaker 1: across the country to play the Falcons, a much easier
- 20:58Speaker 1: opponent than the Rams. You know they're going to be
- 21:00Speaker 1: very motivated. They've had extra time off since that last
- 21:04Speaker 1: second overtime lost to Seattle, the game they absolutely should
- 21:07Speaker 1: have won, and made some crucial mistakes at terrible times,
- 21:11Speaker 1: the punt return all that. I mean, the Rams were
- 21:13Speaker 1: out playing the Seahawks, and then it's sort of like
- 21:16Speaker 1: the Packers Bears game, and all of a sudden, the
- 21:18Speaker 1: blink of an eye, it changes. But the Rams will
- 21:21Speaker 1: go to Atlanta. They should be able to beat this
- 21:23Speaker 1: Falcons team that's not very good six and nine in
- 21:26Speaker 1: the night game or in the late game. And then
- 21:31Speaker 1: and then you've got the San Francisco game and they
- 21:36Speaker 1: are at home against the Bears, which we just talked about.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I'm sorry. So here's the order of it. I messed
- 21:42Speaker 1: up the order. The order of Seattle will go to
- 21:43Speaker 1: Carolina for one o'clock on Sunday, right, they play first.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Then the second NFC West game is the Niners hosting
- 21:52Speaker 1: the Bears. And the Niners have been on fire. That's
- 21:54Speaker 1: the eight o'clock and eight twenty NBC game, all right,
- 21:57Speaker 1: the Niners have been absolutely on fire. Three point favorites.
- 22:01Speaker 1: This should be an excellent game. Brock Purty undefeated since
- 22:05Speaker 1: coming back. I mean, I don't think anybody saw the
- 22:08Speaker 1: Niners not only as double digit team, But folks, the
- 22:11Speaker 1: Niners can still be the number one seed in the NFC.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I mean, there are eleven and four. They are only
- 22:18Speaker 1: a game behind Seattle, who they've already beaten once, and
- 22:22Speaker 1: technically they are a game ahead of the Rams. Well
- 22:25Speaker 1: they're both eleven and four, but they own the tiebreaker
- 22:28Speaker 1: over the Rams right now. So I mean San Francisco
- 22:32Speaker 1: wins out and they get thirteen wins, Guess who's the
- 22:35Speaker 1: number one seed or potentially the number one seed in
- 22:38Speaker 1: the nfcast or the NFC. Yes, the San Francisco forty
- 22:43Speaker 1: nine ers would be, which is kind of unbelievable to
- 22:45Speaker 1: think about. They played really well. They end with the Bears,
- 22:49Speaker 1: of course, and then the Seahawks. So, like I said,
- 22:51Speaker 1: they play the Bears in the Sunday night game, and
- 22:53Speaker 1: then on Monday night is when you get the Falcons
- 22:58Speaker 1: and hosting the Rams, so the Rams will know, The
- 23:01Speaker 1: Rams will know what Seattle has done and what San
- 23:04Speaker 1: Francisco has done before they go play Atlanta. It doesn't matter.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I mean, they've got to win anyway to keep pace
- 23:11Speaker 1: or to get back to where they want to be,
- 23:13Speaker 1: because I do believe the Rams are the best team
- 23:15Speaker 1: in the NFC. You know, they're not the number one
- 23:17Speaker 1: seed right now, but I think when all is said
- 23:20Speaker 1: and done, I think when all sudden done, they probably
- 23:23Speaker 1: will be. So they've got to take care of business though,
- 23:26Speaker 1: and obviously it starts with beating the bad Falcons team
- 23:30Speaker 1: and then they come home for their season finale against
- 23:32Speaker 1: the Cardinals. So you can see why this game is
- 23:35Speaker 1: so important for the Rams. Get to win, stay in pace,
- 23:37Speaker 1: see what happens with Seattle and San Francisco, because both
- 23:40Speaker 1: those teams play tougher opponents, and then you come home
- 23:42Speaker 1: and you play the Cardinals, while Seattle has to play
- 23:46Speaker 1: the forty nine ers. So obviously, if all three teams
- 23:49Speaker 1: win and it comes down to Week eighteen, you almost
- 23:52Speaker 1: gotta favor of the Rams playing the Cardinals because the
- 23:54Speaker 1: Seahawks have to play the forty nine ers. So it
- 23:58Speaker 1: is quite the drama in the ns West. I do
- 24:00Speaker 1: believe when all in Seid is done, when the dust
- 24:03Speaker 1: is settled, that the Rams will win it and very
- 24:06Speaker 1: likely get the number one seed in the NFC. The
- 24:11Speaker 1: Rams are seven and a half point favorites in Atlanta,
- 24:15Speaker 1: the Niners are three point favorites over the Bears, and
- 24:19Speaker 1: the Seahawks in Carolina are seven point favorites. Philadelphia obviously
- 24:25Speaker 1: got that game against Buffalo. They would love to get
- 24:28Speaker 1: the number two seed, looks more likely number three, so
- 24:31Speaker 1: a three to six matchup for them, but they're gonna
- 24:35Speaker 1: play a motivated Buffalo team because Buffalo can still win
- 24:39Speaker 1: the AFC East. That's their terrain. They've won I believe
- 24:42Speaker 1: five or six in a row. Those they want to
- 24:43Speaker 1: keep it up, but they've got to keep pace with
- 24:47Speaker 1: the Patriots. And the Patriots right now are there are
- 24:54Speaker 1: They're a game up and they have a game at
- 24:58Speaker 1: the Jets, all right, so you gotta think that the
- 25:00Speaker 1: Patriots are probably gonna win that game. The Patriots are
- 25:04Speaker 1: in the driver's seat, of course, by already having the lead,
- 25:08Speaker 1: even though it's even though they've they're one game ahead
- 25:11Speaker 1: of the Bills, but they've split the series, so the
- 25:15Speaker 1: series tiebreaker doesn't go either way. But they end the
- 25:18Speaker 1: season Jets Dolphins, so they get to fourteen to three,
- 25:21Speaker 1: they're good. They'll win it no matter what the Bills do.
- 25:24Speaker 1: But until that time, the Bills will try to win
- 25:28Speaker 1: out here and see if they can get the Afseast title.
- 25:33Speaker 1: After the Eagles, they finish with the Jets, so you
- 25:36Speaker 1: know that they're going to be very motivated. It's going
- 25:39Speaker 1: to be a very rainy game. We covered it on
- 25:41Speaker 1: the inside the Birds pregame show. Should be a really
- 25:44Speaker 1: good game and Hopefully it doesn't come down to kicking,
- 25:47Speaker 1: because both teams seem to have some real issues with
- 25:50Speaker 1: their kickers. And I talked about the NFC South. You know,
- 25:54Speaker 1: Tampa's got to go down to Miami and get right.
- 25:56Speaker 1: They have been a terrible team. I mean, now we're
- 25:58Speaker 1: talking about hearing about Hot Bowls's job security. I mean,
- 26:03Speaker 1: this was a team that was just flying earlier in
- 26:07Speaker 1: the year. Again, why I say it doesn't matter until
- 26:10Speaker 1: you get to Thanksgiving, because this team started off five
- 26:13Speaker 1: and one, and at one point they were six and
- 26:15Speaker 1: two and looking great. Then they come out of the
- 26:17Speaker 1: bye week and they have lost six of their last
- 26:20Speaker 1: seven games, and losing to the Panthers twenty three to
- 26:23Speaker 1: twenty last week put the Panthers back into the top spot.
- 26:27Speaker 1: So the Bucks end with Dolphins and then Panthers. So
- 26:32Speaker 1: Panthers have a tougher schedule. They got to play the
- 26:34Speaker 1: Seahawks and then the Bucks. So that's why Week seventeen
- 26:38Speaker 1: is so critical, because if the Bucks can snap out
- 26:41Speaker 1: of it and beat the Dolphins, and then the Panthers
- 26:44Speaker 1: lose to Seattle, which is probably going to be the case,
- 26:47Speaker 1: then all of a sudden, you've got the Bucks at
- 26:49Speaker 1: eight and eight, You've got the Panthers at eight. At eight,
- 26:52Speaker 1: they're tied again, and then it probably it'll come down
- 26:55Speaker 1: to them playing each other in week eighteen. Exactly what
- 26:58Speaker 1: the NFL would want. That would probably be some kind
- 27:01Speaker 1: of later game. I mean, if winner take all, it's
- 27:04Speaker 1: a wonderful such a scenario for the NFC South, Or
- 27:10Speaker 1: this scenario is the Panthers pull off the upset and
- 27:12Speaker 1: beat the Seahawks, Tampa Bay loses to Miami and continues
- 27:16Speaker 1: its losing streak, and then guess what, the Panthers are
- 27:19Speaker 1: your NFC South champions And who would have seen that
- 27:22Speaker 1: coming at the beginning of the year. And that's really
- 27:27Speaker 1: where we have it right now. A couple of games
- 27:29Speaker 1: between you know, New Orleans is trying to keep its
- 27:32Speaker 1: win streak live against Tennessee. There two and a half
- 27:34Speaker 1: point favorites. Gotta give Tyler Schuckle lot of credit. It's
- 27:37Speaker 1: done a great job. The Steelers obviously trying to win
- 27:40Speaker 1: the AFC North. They play Cleveland their three point favorites.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I think it basically if they win and Baltimore loses,
- 27:48Speaker 1: then it is a done deal.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm
- 27:53Speaker 2: not always in the mood to drink, and that's why

- 31:29Speaker 4: great prices and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 31:33Speaker 4: one and up.
- 31:34Speaker 1: And then of course you got the Giants playing the
- 31:37Speaker 1: Las Vegas Raiders in the Who Cares Bowl, you know,
- 31:40Speaker 1: obviously a bowl for the number one pick. And you
- 31:43Speaker 1: know Giants are actually two and a half point favorites
- 31:46Speaker 1: in Las Vegas, So a lot of interesting games on
- 31:50Speaker 1: the slate. The Bengals are hosting Arizona another Who Cares Bowl.
- 31:54Speaker 1: The Bengals are seven point favorites, but at least you're
- 31:56Speaker 1: getting Joe Burrow playing motivated, had a huge game with
- 32:00Speaker 1: a bunch of touchdowns. So and I guess that for
- 32:03Speaker 1: now puts to rest whether or not Borough wants to
- 32:06Speaker 1: really play or be a Banngal or finish out this season.
- 32:09Speaker 1: So last week in my picks, I went two and one.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Finally had a winning I took two underdogs to win
- 32:17Speaker 1: and they went out right. I'm sorry, I took two
- 32:19Speaker 1: underdogs with the points they went out right. That was
- 32:20Speaker 1: the Titans beating the Chiefs and the Patriots beating the Ravens.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I lost on the Lions. Seven point favorites over the Steelers. Again.
- 32:28Speaker 1: I've been wrong on the Steelers for all year. I
- 32:31Speaker 1: still don't think they're going to go very far in
- 32:33Speaker 1: the playoffs, but they have absolutely proved me wrong. They've
- 32:36Speaker 1: played way way better over the last four weeks than
- 32:39Speaker 1: I've given them credit for. As for this week my picks,
- 32:45Speaker 1: I am going to I'm going to go with the Niners.
- 32:49Speaker 1: You know, there are three point favorites over the Bears
- 32:50Speaker 1: their home. The Niners defense has played really well for
- 32:55Speaker 1: a unit that is absolutely beat up. The Bears can
- 32:59Speaker 1: be a little bit one dimensional. I think that how
- 33:02Speaker 1: they beat the Packers was a little bit fluky. I
- 33:05Speaker 1: give him all the credit in the world. I think
- 33:06Speaker 1: they're a good team, but I like the Niners here
- 33:09Speaker 1: at home as three point favorites over the Bears. I'm
- 33:13Speaker 1: going to also go with I'm gonna go with the
- 33:18Speaker 1: Panthers to cover the seven. Seattle is seven point favorites
- 33:23Speaker 1: at Carolina. I think Seattle will win the game, but
- 33:27Speaker 1: I think it's going to be closer than that. So
- 33:29Speaker 1: you're saying, you're telling me that this Panthers team that
- 33:32Speaker 1: has everything to play for is being given seven points.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I'll take it. So I'm gonna take the Panthers getting
- 33:38Speaker 1: seven against the Seahawks. And last, not least, I will
- 33:43Speaker 1: take Jacksonville as five and a half point favorites in Indianapolis.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Philip Rivers played really well and the Colts are home,
- 33:52Speaker 1: but this Jacksonville defense can really really bring it, and
- 33:56Speaker 1: I just don't know. I think the Colts can hang
- 33:58Speaker 1: around for a half, but I think that Jacks Jaguars
- 34:01Speaker 1: will win by more than a touchdown in this game.
- 34:05Speaker 1: So I'm going to take Jacksonville as five and a
- 34:07Speaker 1: half point favorites in Indianapolis. Those are my three picks.
- 34:10Speaker 1: And that is a look at Week seventeen in the NFL.
- 34:14Speaker 1: This is Jeff Mosher. You've been watching the NFL Week
- 34:17Speaker 1: seventeen preview Inside the Birds
