- 0:09Speaker 1: full episode. Yay. We talked a little bit about how
- 0:12Speaker 1: the guys were headed to Austin and they were going
- 0:14Speaker 1: to do the Austin Television Festival and a big reunion
- 0:18Speaker 1: with all the Scrubs folks, and it happened, and the
- 0:21Speaker 1: guys that Austin were kind enough to record the whole panel,
- 0:24Speaker 1: and I'm so excited to share it with you, guys,
- 0:26Speaker 1: because there's a lot of good stuff in here. You're
- 0:28Speaker 1: gonna hear a classic Sarah tale. It's wild and it's
- 0:33Speaker 1: crazy and she had to call for help and it's
- 0:36Speaker 1: but it's funny because it's Sarah and it's lovely. The guys, everybody,
- 0:41Speaker 1: Bill and Zack and Donald. I'll talk about what would
- 0:43Speaker 1: a Scrubs reunion look like, so you'll get some fun
- 0:46Speaker 1: details on well how their wheels are spinning on that,
- 0:49Speaker 1: and you'll get to hear from so many favorites, including
- 0:52Speaker 1: John C McGinley and Judy Rayes. So I hope that
- 0:57Speaker 1: you guys take some time to listen and enjoy. I
- 1:01Speaker 1: really love this. So here is the entire cast of
- 1:05Speaker 1: Scrubs minus Ken Jenkins, talking at the Austin Television Film
- 1:11Speaker 1: Festival about the history of Scrubs. Enjoy, I can't do
- 1:15Speaker 1: this song no Superman oman Yeah, that theme right there.
- 1:27Speaker 1: So we got some babies in the house, we got
- 1:30Speaker 1: some bobos, we got some newbies. We are here to
- 1:34Speaker 1: celebrate Scrubs everyone. I am Variety TV Editor Michael Schneider,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and we've got the reunion for you right now. So
- 1:42Speaker 1: let me bring him out first. Up. You know him
- 1:45Speaker 1: as the creator, the executive producer of a little show
- 1:48Speaker 1: called Scrubs, the one and only mister Bill Lawrence, Bill,
- 1:58Speaker 1: you got a one man standy No over there, j D,
- 2:05Speaker 1: John Dorran himself, Zach Brath the other the other hand,
- 2:24Speaker 1: the other half of j D and Turk, Chris Turk himself,
- 2:27Speaker 1: Donald Fins, Oh oh yeah, feeling the energy. Elliott Read
- 2:51Speaker 1: of course, Sarah Shock h m h. Of course, doctor Cox,
- 3:06Speaker 1: Perry Cox, the one on Lily, John C McGinley, of course,
- 3:24Speaker 1: Carla Espinoza on the show, the wonderful Judy Rees. And finally,
- 3:39Speaker 1: as the janitor who's keeping a watchful eye on all
- 3:42Speaker 1: of you, Neil Flynn, so real quick housekeeping. Note this
- 3:57Speaker 1: is actually a reunion for the team Mobile Home Innerne
- 4:00Speaker 1: that series. Uh, we're gonna be talking about that for
- 4:02Speaker 1: the next hour. Nothing about just Zack and Donald figuring
- 4:07Speaker 1: out their Internet problems. It's just there's gonna be a
- 4:11Speaker 1: whole lot more of them. Oh hey, Austin, what's up?
- 4:15Speaker 1: I aloha? Hey? When you when you come to these things,
- 4:22Speaker 1: If the group of people that still love hanging out
- 4:24Speaker 1: with each other all come out with coffee, it means
- 4:26Speaker 1: they're tremendously hungover. I think whoever's damn was the fu?
- 4:33Speaker 1: Where did you guys go last night? Of your business here?
- 4:36Speaker 1: None of your business. Let's just say we were overserved.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You're okay, you're all looking Graham. There were a couple
- 4:44Speaker 1: other people on the streets of Austin who looked over
- 4:45Speaker 1: served last night as well. I feel like some of
- 4:48Speaker 1: them are in this audience. But good morning, everybody, Good morning.
- 4:54Speaker 1: So nine seasons, one hundred and eighty two episode seventeen
- 4:58Speaker 1: Emmy nominations, two wins, a peep Body Award, two networks,
- 5:02Speaker 1: and now one podcast as well, Scrub. Do you guys wait,
- 5:07Speaker 1: good question? Do you guys like my podcast? Thank you?
- 5:14Speaker 1: Bill for letting us do it. Well, we're putting I
- 5:18Speaker 1: knew I knew I was gonna use Donald, and then
- 5:20Speaker 1: we were talking Donald I, we were talking about who
- 5:22Speaker 1: else we would use on that podcast, and we went
- 5:25Speaker 1: with Zach. Yeah, thank you, Thank you. So Bill, when
- 5:32Speaker 1: you came up with the idea of the uh my guy,
- 5:34Speaker 1: eight Doctors, Real Friends podcast, Um no, but so you guys,
- 5:39Speaker 1: I mean, in some ways, doing the reunions a little
- 5:42Speaker 1: bit of a misnomer because you're always reuniting. This is
- 5:44Speaker 1: this is something that's lived on and you know, just
- 5:47Speaker 1: the camaraderie this group is incredible, and you've had these
- 5:50Speaker 1: past two years, especially with the podcast, to really look
- 5:53Speaker 1: back now and reminisce and get together. Um So, Zach, seriously, though,
- 5:57Speaker 1: what you take us back to the impetus you and
- 6:00Speaker 1: Donald of doing this podcast and what that's meant in
- 6:03Speaker 1: sort of, you know, getting the band back together and
- 6:07Speaker 1: talking about here this is gonna be the question about
- 6:09Speaker 1: the podcast, right, that's only about Bill. Bill is livid
- 6:14Speaker 1: he didn't get the first question. Um um When the
- 6:19Speaker 1: two um, when the two gals from the office did it,
- 6:22Speaker 1: it became so popular. We were Donald and I were
- 6:26Speaker 1: approached to do it, and um, it actually just we
- 6:29Speaker 1: started day one of the la uh COVID Lockdown was
- 6:33Speaker 1: the first day we were supposed to record, and we thought, oh,
- 6:36Speaker 1: that's that's that's too bad. We can't do it now.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And they said, oh, don't worry. We figured it out.
- 6:39Speaker 1: You can put mikes in your house and you could
- 6:42Speaker 1: do it over zoom. And it became like one of
- 6:45Speaker 1: the most for us, and and a lot of the
- 6:47Speaker 1: fans who who who listens something to make each other
- 6:51Speaker 1: laugh during COVID and uh and it was really um
- 6:55Speaker 1: I was we were both so grateful to have it,
- 6:58Speaker 1: and then a lot of fans who listen and love
- 7:00Speaker 1: the show, we're so glad to have it, and um
- 7:02Speaker 1: and that was sort of the genesis of it. And
- 7:04Speaker 1: then we started having Bill on and um and and
- 7:06Speaker 1: and and people would be like, when's Bill coming back
- 7:09Speaker 1: to the podcast? And this one wasn't as good because
- 7:13Speaker 1: interrupting Bill wasn't there. And then no, but it's been
- 7:19Speaker 1: a blast, And thank you all for for listening, Thank
- 7:21Speaker 1: you for all listen truly, thanks to the rest of
- 7:24Speaker 1: the cast for coming on the podcast. Also because uh,
- 7:28Speaker 1: you know, they don't get paid to get on here.
- 7:29Speaker 1: But anyway, Um, I was just excited that we came
- 7:33Speaker 1: up with a way to McDonald watch the show right.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Had no idea what this show Scrubs was about. I'm like,
- 7:40Speaker 1: I think it has something to do with doctor It's
- 7:43Speaker 1: about I get it. That was my go to when
- 7:48Speaker 1: we were making the show. I would walk into work
- 7:50Speaker 1: every day and be like, so, uh, what's happening? What? What? What?
- 7:55Speaker 1: What's the scene about on the on the wall? Because
- 7:58Speaker 1: of that podcast, my kids started watching Scrubs and they
- 8:03Speaker 1: like it now now I'm cool, Judy. Was there anything
- 8:07Speaker 1: you had to explain to them, any awkward moments that
- 8:10Speaker 1: you sort of left the room as they were watching
- 8:12Speaker 1: or I'm sorry, what was it? I'm still thinking? And
- 8:16Speaker 1: did anything you had to explain to your kids as
- 8:18Speaker 1: they were watching it for the first No, Actually, um
- 8:21Speaker 1: Day would go like, I love that time when when
- 8:24Speaker 1: he's having the fantasy and the janitor is so cool.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Never ever anything about me. I'm gonna have to talk
- 8:32Speaker 1: to her about that, not a moment about some of
- 8:35Speaker 1: your great dramatic scenes. I mean, we still remember the
- 8:39Speaker 1: episode We're no damn it. Well, that's why we're here
- 8:44Speaker 1: to talk about those great moments. Um. But but seriously,
- 8:49Speaker 1: you guys you continued to work together. I mean, Zach,
- 8:52Speaker 1: you were Emmy nominated for directing an episode of ted Lasso,
- 8:55Speaker 1: so so thank you. And then a bunch of you
- 9:01Speaker 1: were on celebrity Family Feud not Toys Ago. I was
- 9:06Speaker 1: amazing a life dream won. Way we won. Spoiler, Neil,
- 9:11Speaker 1: how many points did your team get on that? The
- 9:15Speaker 1: reason that you won is because we did not score
- 9:18Speaker 1: a single point? Neil? What happened man? Follow victory? I
- 9:25Speaker 1: don't we failed to reflect America's feelings about what animal
- 9:34Speaker 1: might appear in a baby creat whatever the questions were there,
- 9:40Speaker 1: I don't know. It's really scarry when you get there,
- 9:42Speaker 1: by the way, I mean, it's been a lifelong dream
- 9:44Speaker 1: of mind to be on Family Feud, And when you're
- 9:47Speaker 1: there and you're staring at Steve Harvey and his mustache,
- 9:50Speaker 1: it's very it's very intimidating. Back in the final round,
- 9:54Speaker 1: you look intense, You look like you were wanted. I
- 9:56Speaker 1: really wanted to I really wanted to not let my
- 9:58Speaker 1: team down. And then Donald did that with Alligator. Yeah,
- 10:02Speaker 1: that's hey, man, that's a come on. Now. By the way,
- 10:07Speaker 1: there's this. There's this some meme that went around after
- 10:09Speaker 1: that of an alligator literally climbing a fence. For those
- 10:12Speaker 1: of you that didn't see in the rush round, it said,
- 10:15Speaker 1: name an animal that would help you climb over a fence.
- 10:18Speaker 1: The answer would be a draft. Donald went with alligator
- 10:21Speaker 1: that would not as a ladder, but but he but
- 10:26Speaker 1: the fans defended him because somehow they found an alligator
- 10:30Speaker 1: climbing a fence. Several alligators in Florida know how to
- 10:33Speaker 1: climb fences out They've they've adapted. I learned from us
- 10:41Speaker 1: withou the human climb out of the back of the alligator. Yeah,
- 10:44Speaker 1: the human eye. That was the thing you had to
- 10:47Speaker 1: escape if you were escaping from the zoo. Which animal
- 10:50Speaker 1: that was? Which animal would which animal would most help
- 10:53Speaker 1: you escape from the zoo? Yeah? And I said, I
- 10:55Speaker 1: went first in giraffe. Did you even try jiraft first? No?
- 10:59Speaker 1: I went straight out Gatoray, the most ill equipped animal
- 11:06Speaker 1: to help you is to try and bite you as
- 11:09Speaker 1: you climbed this shore, but you would get over that.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Then either way, you guys won, and you won the
- 11:18Speaker 1: money too, So I'll for charity for the one it's worth.
- 11:21Speaker 1: So there you go, congratulations on that. But if you
- 11:23Speaker 1: gave your money away, Bill, Bill kept his because he's
- 11:27Speaker 1: I don't know if you've seen them the trades, but
- 11:28Speaker 1: he's a little short on cash these days, all right,
- 11:32Speaker 1: He's he struggled in the years since U sin Se Scrubs.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean going back to the other shows
- 11:37Speaker 1: that you guys have all collaborated. I mean, Sarah, you
- 11:39Speaker 1: showed up on Cougar Town. So Sarah, what do you
- 11:45Speaker 1: what do you make of this? This? This this sort
- 11:47Speaker 1: of camaraderie, the fact that no one can quit each other.
- 11:50Speaker 1: This is a show, This is a This a group
- 11:53Speaker 1: that has remained close even though the show has been
- 11:55Speaker 1: off the air for so long. It's so special. We
- 11:57Speaker 1: were all talking about last night how you're kind of
- 11:59Speaker 1: chasing it for ever after that because it's an experience
- 12:04Speaker 1: that it's really hard to replicate. I mean, we were
- 12:06Speaker 1: living and working in this old, abandoned hospital. We had
- 12:09Speaker 1: all the writers, the crew, the cast um. We had
- 12:13Speaker 1: nowhere to go but in this hospital. And it was
- 12:15Speaker 1: before the days where you had to have short days,
- 12:16Speaker 1: so we would be there for a long time with
- 12:19Speaker 1: each other. And yeah, I think my longest day when
- 12:21Speaker 1: we were there was like twenty four hours, and I remember,
- 12:26Speaker 1: this is how it happened. I'm gonna tell you how
- 12:27Speaker 1: it happened, not gonna let you exactly twenty four hours.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And I remember Randall walking unions would have shut down.
- 12:33Speaker 1: This is how it happened listening. So we had two units.
- 12:36Speaker 1: There was a unit and there was a B unit,
- 12:38Speaker 1: and I was working on B unit. And then I
- 12:40Speaker 1: had night shoots that night into the morning, and so
- 12:43Speaker 1: instead of sign instead of the ad never showed up
- 12:47Speaker 1: to my room to sign me out. So I was like,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I guess I'll just stay here and wait, and I did,
- 12:54Speaker 1: and then the check came to my agents and Randall
- 12:58Speaker 1: Randall Winston is was one of the producers on the show.
- 13:02Speaker 1: He's not here. More importantly, he played Leonard the security
- 13:04Speaker 1: Leonard the security guard, and he can't. I remember he
- 13:07Speaker 1: came to my room and I will never forget the
- 13:10Speaker 1: anger and I and he's one of the happiest people
- 13:12Speaker 1: you will ever meet, like happy as can be, and
- 13:15Speaker 1: I will never forget the anger in his face. He
- 13:17Speaker 1: was the line producer at the time, and he was like,
- 13:20Speaker 1: this will never happen again. One and dude, that check
- 13:25Speaker 1: was so big, like I put a down payment on
- 13:32Speaker 1: a house with that check guard. And they try not
- 13:36Speaker 1: to make you work twenty four hours straight as it's
- 13:38Speaker 1: it's almost like being on a medical shift, except you,
- 13:41Speaker 1: guys aren't necessarily saving lives, but you're like, you're making
- 13:44Speaker 1: everyone fall in love with you. So I don't know
- 13:47Speaker 1: what that means. You got it all good work? Why
- 13:50Speaker 1: did you say? I don't know? After that? You did good?
- 13:52Speaker 1: Should have owned it exactly. But you know, what's interesting
- 13:56Speaker 1: about listening to the podcast is that we've also learned
- 13:58Speaker 1: more of the pills right here, I feel like all
- 14:03Speaker 1: we've talked about so far as the podcast he's segueing
- 14:06Speaker 1: now I sense what's happens, m Off. We've learned a
- 14:13Speaker 1: lot more about sort of the inner workings of the
- 14:15Speaker 1: show and even like inside jokes, some of the things
- 14:18Speaker 1: like I love like you revealing some of John C's
- 14:21Speaker 1: favorite saynes, which, uh, you're learning more about what he's
- 14:25Speaker 1: like on set. There's five good ones for you. And
- 14:28Speaker 1: by the way, whole group answer right now, how you
- 14:30Speaker 1: doing better? Better now? Better now? It's the Johnny C
- 14:34Speaker 1: answer to your greeting. He loves to do it to
- 14:36Speaker 1: strangers too, So find him after and say how you doing.
- 14:38Speaker 1: He'll do it over and over he might even if
- 14:45Speaker 1: he really likes you, he'll shorten here's five good ones
- 14:48Speaker 1: for you and just say here's five matha, John, I
- 14:56Speaker 1: don't leave the fucking property, and so Billy just put
- 15:01Speaker 1: to the steak in my Sternum. I don't don't come
- 15:04Speaker 1: and talk to me at all, any of you. Yeah,
- 15:12Speaker 1: he means unless unless you have special needs, I don't
- 15:15Speaker 1: want to meet you. You have special needs, I want
- 15:18Speaker 1: to meet you. Otherwise, Um, I'm window dressing here. He's
- 15:25Speaker 1: becoming more doctor Cox. What's happening. What's happening, Zach, Well,
- 15:30Speaker 1: we all have a little bit of our our characters
- 15:33Speaker 1: inside of us, um, except for Ken Jenkins, who's the
- 15:36Speaker 1: who's not with here, um, but is the nicest human
- 15:39Speaker 1: being on the planet. But other than that, I think
- 15:41Speaker 1: um Bill would take a lot of our personalities in fact,
- 15:45Speaker 1: and sometimes you would just come to me and Donald
- 15:47Speaker 1: and be like, what did you guys do this weekend?
- 15:49Speaker 1: And we'd tell him some insane story and then like
- 15:52Speaker 1: a week later it would be in the show. We're
- 15:55Speaker 1: all exactly like her. As Zach texted, the whole group
- 15:57Speaker 1: before we came here, and he was like, Sarah's gonna
- 15:59Speaker 1: have some ridiculous travel story. And I was getting on
- 16:03Speaker 1: the elevator to go and meet everybody, thinking what an
- 16:06Speaker 1: uneventful journey that was. I did not have a travel story.
- 16:11Speaker 1: And I got in the elevator and I got stuck
- 16:15Speaker 1: in it on Friday night here in US, and I've
- 16:18Speaker 1: been here for about five minutes, and I didn't know
- 16:20Speaker 1: what to do, and so I immediately FaceTime Zach and
- 16:23Speaker 1: Donald and I said, I'm stuck in an elevator. Get
- 16:24Speaker 1: me out of here. I do not think I will
- 16:26Speaker 1: do well in this situation. Yeah. So Zac's like, Okay,
- 16:32Speaker 1: what elevator are you in? And I'm like, I don't know.
- 16:36Speaker 1: So I started pushing the buttons and all of a sudden,
- 16:39Speaker 1: all the buttons are lighting up, and then I find
- 16:41Speaker 1: a button to call the front desk and she says, well,
- 16:43Speaker 1: are you on You're stuck in flor eleven. The elevator
- 16:46Speaker 1: only goes to five. What is happening right now? Tell
- 16:54Speaker 1: them all what you did to calm down makes me happy.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I'm down. I really needed to calm down. I did
- 17:03Speaker 1: not understand that I was claustrophobic until this moment, and
- 17:05Speaker 1: I thought it was another panic attack, and I was like, Okay,
- 17:08Speaker 1: get back onto the podcast. I was listening to um
- 17:11Speaker 1: Dak Shepherd's podcast and Monica Padman and Fahrenholtz was on,
- 17:15Speaker 1: and I was like, just just get back into that,
- 17:17Speaker 1: get back into the mind state you were in five
- 17:19Speaker 1: minutes ago that I had just been listening to and
- 17:21Speaker 1: we were up for dinner, and attacks like you were
- 17:24Speaker 1: listening to my doppel gagers of all fucking podcasts in
- 17:29Speaker 1: the world. She calms down by listening to Dak Shepherd's podcast.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Okay in office, Okay, because I know Bill wants us
- 17:38Speaker 1: to talk more about the podcast. I did have to
- 17:42Speaker 1: say that during a few very stressful COVID times, I
- 17:46Speaker 1: would put on Fake Doctor's Real Friends, no joke, and
- 17:49Speaker 1: I would laugh and it would calm me. And that
- 17:51Speaker 1: is his truth. All Right, Well we'll make it about
- 17:54Speaker 1: Bill now, will Let's talk about ted Lasso. Yeah, Yeah,
- 18:01Speaker 1: let's go one of my favorite shows of all time,
- 18:06Speaker 1: Emmy winning Ted Lasso. But Bill, Yeah, shout out to
- 18:10Speaker 1: Ted last night. You can give him. Yeah, especially director
- 18:15Speaker 1: Zach Brath on Ted Lasso. It was fantastic, But I
- 18:18Speaker 1: guess we do have the co creator here as well.
- 18:20Speaker 1: But Bill, what's amazing is you do have the Emmy
- 18:24Speaker 1: winning show, the hottest comedy in TV right now. But
- 18:27Speaker 1: I'm sure a lot of people still want to talk
- 18:29Speaker 1: to you about Scrubs. You're still on this panel today.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Scrubs is forever and that must be again gratifying for
- 18:37Speaker 1: a creator, especially when, as you've said over and over again,
- 18:40Speaker 1: this was a show you didn't think was gonna last
- 18:42Speaker 1: its first year. Well, I'm so grateful. I can speak
- 18:47Speaker 1: for all of us. We're all so grateful that any
- 18:50Speaker 1: of you still care gives us an excuse to hang
- 18:53Speaker 1: out together. I'll tell you it was such a great
- 18:57Speaker 1: experience last night walking to dinner through Austin because the
- 19:00Speaker 1: streets were crowded with people that had been drinking and
- 19:03Speaker 1: having fun. And then they would glance over and you
- 19:06Speaker 1: would hear, is that the cast of Scrubs? Why is
- 19:10Speaker 1: the cast of Scrubs walking down the street? And then, um, Neil,
- 19:16Speaker 1: if you will help me here, there's one person from
- 19:17Speaker 1: a bus that pointed at you and screamed, what modern family? Neil?
- 19:33Speaker 1: Tell him the other story. Please come on about me, Yeah,
- 19:38Speaker 1: I'll make it fast. The lady. You know, periodically people
- 19:41Speaker 1: will see you on the street and aren't you a lady?
- 19:44Speaker 1: Yelled from across the street. Don't you come on TV? Yes?
- 19:51Speaker 1: What's the name of that show? Uh? Oh, she goes.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Malcolm in the middle close said he I did it
- 20:00Speaker 1: half right, She says, Malcolm. H So look, the end
- 20:15Speaker 1: of my answer was we are happy to spend time
- 20:20Speaker 1: with each other anyways. And it you know, John C
- 20:24Speaker 1: said something earlier today. He said, the dinner that we
- 20:28Speaker 1: had last night made you know, we'd do these things forever,
- 20:30Speaker 1: just for the dinner we had with each other to
- 20:33Speaker 1: talk about how great it was. So, you know, thank
- 20:36Speaker 1: you guys so much for still given a hoop. We
- 20:38Speaker 1: really appreciate it. Yeah, thank you. And when you go
- 20:45Speaker 1: back and watch the episodes, you remember too. This was
- 20:48Speaker 1: sort of the early days of single camera comedies really
- 20:52Speaker 1: starting to make a difference. It was still uh, you know,
- 20:55Speaker 1: sort of out of the norm, especially in broadcast TV.
- 20:58Speaker 1: There are so many things that you I sort of
- 21:00Speaker 1: broke new ground on. I think the relationship between Turk
- 21:05Speaker 1: and Carla is still sort of like relationship goals. Judy
- 21:11Speaker 1: is yeah, for sure, I think. Uh. Not to mention
- 21:15Speaker 1: the podcast again, but we had a guy on the
- 21:16Speaker 1: podcast named Shay Serrano and and he wrote an essay
- 21:21Speaker 1: about Scrubs. Also, I encourage you all to get it.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It's like an essay of every episode of Scrubs. But
- 21:27Speaker 1: in it he talks about how Turk and Carla are
- 21:30Speaker 1: the best TV couple in history, and when you think
- 21:35Speaker 1: about it, they kind of are you know what I mean,
- 21:38Speaker 1: Like you can't find like goals in life. In my
- 21:43Speaker 1: real life, I try to find what Turk and Carla
- 21:46Speaker 1: have and I well, I found it, but you know, um,
- 21:50Speaker 1: it's really interesting because he's all over the place and
- 21:53Speaker 1: she's the grounding force. As a matter of fact, Carla
- 21:55Speaker 1: was the grounding force for Scrubs period, you know what
- 21:58Speaker 1: I mean. And that's a lot of pressure. Though. I
- 22:03Speaker 1: remember going to Bill at some point, I don't know
- 22:05Speaker 1: if it was the first or second season, and I
- 22:07Speaker 1: was I had been practicing the speech to give him
- 22:10Speaker 1: and h and I was like, why don't I get
- 22:13Speaker 1: any jokes? And I get like a fan goes, oh god,
- 22:17Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I mean, you know, your character carries the
- 22:20Speaker 1: gravitas of the show. It's a big responsibility. I just
- 22:26Speaker 1: I just want to be funny, but she went by
- 22:31Speaker 1: the way. We're making a joke about it, but we
- 22:33Speaker 1: love to give each other props. You guys must have
- 22:35Speaker 1: seen it when you're watching all the shows. Again, Judy
- 22:37Speaker 1: was the emotional backbone and like the dramatic spine of
- 22:40Speaker 1: the show, and we talked from the beginning. She made
- 22:42Speaker 1: the whole thing real, you know what I mean. So yeah, ah,
- 22:48Speaker 1: thank you. But I know I appreciate. One of the
- 22:51Speaker 1: great things about working with Bill is, of course he
- 22:54Speaker 1: picks from your real life, but he listens to you.
- 22:57Speaker 1: He understands that at the end of the day, he
- 23:00Speaker 1: and the writers and give you an opportunity to realize
- 23:04Speaker 1: your needs as an actor. And a lot of it
- 23:06Speaker 1: is not only dramatic, but it's funny. H And I
- 23:09Speaker 1: remember he gave me this great fantasy about me losing
- 23:13Speaker 1: my shit when I see when the guys see this
- 23:16Speaker 1: woman coming in and I said, oh wow, that looks
- 23:18Speaker 1: like a young Carla And I remember that and I
- 23:23Speaker 1: freaked out. It was like, it's always one of my
- 23:25Speaker 1: favorite moments to see and to share with people. You know,
- 23:30Speaker 1: and the musical and the sitcom, those are always really
- 23:35Speaker 1: really fun when I think back and think about all
- 23:37Speaker 1: the favorite moments that I've had, but thank you, and
- 23:40Speaker 1: when you think about the balance that this show did,
- 23:42Speaker 1: because I think about some of the really crazy moments,
- 23:46Speaker 1: I think about the you know, stuffed rawdy, here's like
- 23:49Speaker 1: little Here's little rawdy right here. Um, you know, the
- 23:51Speaker 1: silly stuff that you guys did, But then the real
- 23:53Speaker 1: emotional stuff too, like again the going back to Carla
- 23:57Speaker 1: and the episode where Nurse of Earned dies and Judy
- 24:01Speaker 1: tour a force scene, but also when Brendan Frasier's character dies,
- 24:06Speaker 1: and of course props to Brendan, what a good actor, huh.
- 24:12Speaker 1: But props to John C. McGinley. Uh. You know, the
- 24:15Speaker 1: Doctor Cox and that relationship, and of course the relationship
- 24:19Speaker 1: between Doctor Cox and Zach Braff. You know, JD. There
- 24:24Speaker 1: are two different people I know, Um, I'll tell you
- 24:27Speaker 1: they We love people, both love musicals, We both went
- 24:31Speaker 1: to theater camp. I have a journal, but it doesn't
- 24:35Speaker 1: have a unicorn who's there to protect my hopes and dreams?
- 24:37Speaker 1: You know you you are equally nonversed in the world
- 24:40Speaker 1: of sports. Zach will call me up sometimes say did
- 24:44Speaker 1: the sports team you like when no, the other day,
- 24:48Speaker 1: I was so proud to know that there was a
- 24:50Speaker 1: Celtics heat came on and and I and I kept
- 24:52Speaker 1: texting Donald being like, I need this tonight. I need it.
- 24:57Speaker 1: He watched two minutes of the game, dude, no, no,
- 25:00Speaker 1: I watched two minutes of the game and they were
- 25:01Speaker 1: up by like ten points. It's over. It's over. I go,
- 25:05Speaker 1: I can't watch anymore because it's it's over. It's a
- 25:08Speaker 1: waste of time from here on out. I also know
- 25:11Speaker 1: nothing about sports has become a joke in my family.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Exact line in the show of I Love It when
- 25:16Speaker 1: he wins at the games that he played. By the way, Bill,
- 25:20Speaker 1: didn't you? On Twitter the other day tweet it's over,
- 25:23Speaker 1: it's over, and people thought why the internet works? I said,
- 25:27Speaker 1: I think it's over because the Celtics won Golden State.
- 25:29Speaker 1: And there's nine million things thinking that. I said, ted
- 25:31Speaker 1: Lasso was done. So there is a momentary panic on
- 25:36Speaker 1: the internet. However, Yeah, so back to your original thing,
- 25:39Speaker 1: watch me bring it back. So it's a cool. Uh,
- 25:42Speaker 1: I'll run this. I don't care the show running the
- 25:44Speaker 1: Q and A. Everybody be quiet. Here's how we're doing it. Um,
- 25:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk about the dramatic stuff we did, and
- 25:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna probably toss it down to Johnny. Okay, all
- 25:54Speaker 1: right now, the U is the one of the coolest
- 25:57Speaker 1: things about this show is the freedom of having so
- 26:00Speaker 1: talented casts that can do comedy and drama. And we
- 26:02Speaker 1: all thought we were gonna be canceled after one year,
- 26:04Speaker 1: and these guys will tell you that then we decided
- 26:06Speaker 1: to show People as a different show. The third episode
- 26:08Speaker 1: or fourth episode of the show is called My Old
- 26:10Speaker 1: Lady and three three patients die, and uh, I remember
- 26:14Speaker 1: still I told these guys that when we step to
- 26:17Speaker 1: picture outlines to the network, and uh, you know, we're like,
- 26:20Speaker 1: we do this stat that if you're not in pediatrics
- 26:23Speaker 1: or having a baby, that one out of every three
- 26:25Speaker 1: people admitted to the hospital dies. And then Judy and
- 26:29Speaker 1: and uh Sarah get a patients, Donald gets a patient,
- 26:32Speaker 1: Zach gets a patient. The audience thinks that one of
- 26:34Speaker 1: the three of them will die, and then at the
- 26:36Speaker 1: end spoiler it's twenty years old. Fuck you guys, all right,
- 26:41Speaker 1: what are you doing here? If someone here who's like,
- 26:43Speaker 1: I'm finally gonna try and watch this, fuck it's on Hulu.
- 26:48Speaker 1: This sounds great, it's on Hulu, but I had to
- 26:52Speaker 1: tell I had to tell the network and like, and
- 26:54Speaker 1: then at the end the gut Punchers they all die
- 26:57Speaker 1: and U U the network people there's like silence and
- 27:00Speaker 1: they're like, couldn't just one of them die? And then
- 27:05Speaker 1: by the way, I'm like, Noah, they're all gonna die,
- 27:07Speaker 1: and they're like, could the people that die be really mean?
- 27:09Speaker 1: Like racists and stuff? So you're kind of happy they die, Like, Nah,
- 27:12Speaker 1: they're all gonna die. And I always thought the way
- 27:15Speaker 1: it was acted by everybody here and U directed by
- 27:19Speaker 1: I think Mark Buckland, wasn't it h kind of set
- 27:22Speaker 1: up the whole show. So that's when we started knowing
- 27:25Speaker 1: that we could people like you switch from comedy to
- 27:29Speaker 1: drama really quickly. When I picked the show, they said
- 27:32Speaker 1: they didn't think we could do that, and being a
- 27:34Speaker 1: wise ass this is not smoking mirrors, but being a
- 27:36Speaker 1: wise ass, I said, I think if we just turned
- 27:39Speaker 1: down the lights and play an indie song, that it
- 27:41Speaker 1: might work. There there were times though, you'd you'd get
- 27:52Speaker 1: a script and you'd go we'd be in the wildest,
- 27:54Speaker 1: the most ridiculous, surreal fantasy. And then we'd come out
- 27:58Speaker 1: of it and go to a like a patient dying,
- 28:01Speaker 1: and you would think, how the hell is Bill gonna
- 28:03Speaker 1: make this hairpin turn? And to his credit, U he
- 28:08Speaker 1: masterfully would always pull it off. Did it with a
- 28:11Speaker 1: clip show? How the heck could you like? Because because
- 28:16Speaker 1: of fake doctors, we gotta do we have to watch
- 28:18Speaker 1: everything and we we I remember Zach being like, I
- 28:22Speaker 1: don't want to do a clip show, dude, it's stuff
- 28:24Speaker 1: that we've already talked about. And I was like, dude,
- 28:26Speaker 1: let's do the clip show. And within the clip show,
- 28:29Speaker 1: at the end of it, you're still freaking emotion. It's
- 28:32Speaker 1: like Bill, that's that's a talent man. Not a lot
- 28:36Speaker 1: of people can take a half hour comedy and then
- 28:39Speaker 1: flip it on its ass at the end. Um, and
- 28:41Speaker 1: you do it masterfully. Oh it's not me. We're gonna
- 28:44Speaker 1: kiss each other's ass up here for a while. Although wait,
- 28:46Speaker 1: I will tell you, but somebody I was gonna give
- 28:50Speaker 1: one of these guys a huge present if they asked one.
- 28:53Speaker 1: He challenged you at dinner last night. Someone was supposed
- 28:55Speaker 1: to call me TV's Mike Nichols. No one's done. It's
- 28:57Speaker 1: not a big deal. It's not over the panel. And
- 29:01Speaker 1: that's well, it's because I read the book. First. There's
- 29:04Speaker 1: this amazing Mike Nichols biography that everybody here has read
- 29:07Speaker 1: except Zach. I was trying to get Zach toury and
- 29:11Speaker 1: I've been telling Bill about this Mike and he go
- 29:13Speaker 1: talking about her. By the way, you should all read
- 29:14Speaker 1: it if you since you clearly love TV. It's it's
- 29:17Speaker 1: or the art form of acting, and it talks about everything. Anyway,
- 29:21Speaker 1: I told Bill like four thousand times, you gotta read
- 29:23Speaker 1: this book, right, I gotta read this book. I see
- 29:25Speaker 1: him yesterday. He goes, have you read the new Mikes
- 29:28Speaker 1: this book? All right, I'm old. So anyways, the point
- 29:31Speaker 1: of this is it wasn't me. Every actor and actress
- 29:33Speaker 1: here has the ability to switch from comedy the drama.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Because when you do a comedy, you know, the first
- 29:38Speaker 1: show I created was called spin City. It was all jokes,
- 29:40Speaker 1: was a sitcom. He uh, And then right before that
- 29:43Speaker 1: I created Mash and I didn't all right, So, but everybody,
- 29:49Speaker 1: it's so hard when you get a bunch of comedians
- 29:51Speaker 1: to go, man, I wonder if they can do drama.
- 29:53Speaker 1: And I would assume that if you're fans of this
- 29:55Speaker 1: show that you can mention everybody's favorite dramatic scene. I
- 30:00Speaker 1: tell you, there's a weird moment that I remember people here,
- 30:02Speaker 1: remember I knew like what an unbelievably counted cast we had,
- 30:06Speaker 1: And it was when Neil Flynn's character tricked Sarah's character
- 30:11Speaker 1: into going on a date and at the but at
- 30:13Speaker 1: the end, we just wrote a moment, you know, for
- 30:16Speaker 1: the janitor that he said, you're the only one here
- 30:19Speaker 1: that you know treats me like a person and uh,
- 30:23Speaker 1: and he says her name and it was so touching.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I'm like, fuck, even that janitor can give your drama.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I know. Judy mentioned the musical, which was, yeah, a
- 30:40Speaker 1: landmark episode, but also just the use of music in
- 30:43Speaker 1: general on this show, Uh really became such a key
- 30:47Speaker 1: part of Scrubs and the legacy of Scrubs as well,
- 30:51Speaker 1: because again, sitcoms weren't really using music in the way
- 30:54Speaker 1: that you guys used music, and it remains something that
- 30:58Speaker 1: everyone remembers, as you know, so this this tool that
- 31:01Speaker 1: you were able to use to propel the narratives forward
- 31:04Speaker 1: and uh, you know, really punctuate these emotional scenes. Uh,
- 31:09Speaker 1: these guys could all talk to it. We all participated,
- 31:11Speaker 1: but I gotta give props to she couldn't be here
- 31:13Speaker 1: because our sister in law was having a concert. My
- 31:15Speaker 1: wife Chris, who plays Jordan, as the music supervisor all
- 31:18Speaker 1: my show. And it was cool on this show because
- 31:24Speaker 1: everybody would bring music ideas in and uh and a
- 31:27Speaker 1: writer Neil Goldman and Zach was huge doing it. But
- 31:30Speaker 1: it was the opportunity to kind of pop new bands
- 31:33Speaker 1: and tell him about the my favorite story. We all
- 31:36Speaker 1: know it and with Johnny Ceaston Josh Raiden's first song
- 31:40Speaker 1: yeah so um in that in the episode with Brennan
- 31:43Speaker 1: dies and John and c gives that masterful class and
- 31:47Speaker 1: acting of just that powerful, powerful performance where he says,
- 31:52Speaker 1: when I say, where do you think we are? Um?
- 31:56Speaker 1: My friend Josh Raiden had never h he had written
- 31:59Speaker 1: his song. He always played covers and stuff, but he wrote.
- 32:04Speaker 1: He said to me, I have his song. It's the
- 32:06Speaker 1: first song I've written. It's mine. And I'm like, oh boy,
- 32:10Speaker 1: and uh and he plays it and it's winter and
- 32:13Speaker 1: I'm like, this is the first song you've ever written
- 32:15Speaker 1: and he goes yeah, And I gave it to Bill.
- 32:18Speaker 1: I got this is incredible and it might be great
- 32:21Speaker 1: for the for the funeral scene and um and it
- 32:25Speaker 1: worked out so beautifully that people started searching for all
- 32:29Speaker 1: of his music and he didn't have any music. He
- 32:31Speaker 1: had one song search him now though, yeah yeah, now
- 32:39Speaker 1: now goes see him because he tours the world. Well, Bill,
- 32:43Speaker 1: real quick. On the musical tip, I know years ago
- 32:46Speaker 1: you mentioned that you might eventually stage and actual uh
- 32:50Speaker 1: Scrubs the musical on stage? Is uh? Is that still
- 32:53Speaker 1: a possibility? Look, we we all are the songs on
- 32:58Speaker 1: a musical written by uh big rest in peace, Sam
- 33:02Speaker 1: Lloyd and his team and Paul Perry, Yes, and uh,
- 33:06Speaker 1: and then the other half of the song is actually
- 33:08Speaker 1: written by the dudes did a book A Mormon and
- 33:11Speaker 1: Frozen and all that, Robert Willpez and uh. So we
- 33:14Speaker 1: were always talking about it, but really were you just
- 33:17Speaker 1: are always talking about an excuse to get back together
- 33:21Speaker 1: and work, you know what I mean, and be around
- 33:22Speaker 1: each other. So I don't know if they'll be a
- 33:24Speaker 1: Scrubs the Musical unless all this gang comes to me
- 33:28Speaker 1: and says we all want to do Scrubs the Musical.
- 33:30Speaker 1: But well, I mean, there's would like an opportunity to
- 33:33Speaker 1: sing in public. No, no no, no, no, no. Yeah. By
- 33:35Speaker 1: the way, I don't think the audience wants that opportunity Sarah.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Y'all want to hear Sarah sing No, No, you don't.
- 33:41Speaker 1: I don't. That's lovely of you, but you don't. Everybody
- 33:47Speaker 1: else Judy Johnny c Neil Flynn and Donald Zach singing
- 33:51Speaker 1: Sarah not with the singing Yes, you can rap. What's
- 33:56Speaker 1: your favorite rap? Sarah? I will not. I will do
- 34:02Speaker 1: the poison dense No. I was kicked out of the
- 34:04Speaker 1: choir by Missus McKinnon in grade five, which is Canadian
- 34:07Speaker 1: for fifth grade when she said, chalk girls, my sister
- 34:11Speaker 1: my both just mouth the words for this performance. And
- 34:13Speaker 1: it wasn't like a fancy choir, was like singing Christmas
- 34:15Speaker 1: carols in the mall. And I was like in that moment,
- 34:18Speaker 1: I was like, I will never be epenning and lame
- 34:20Speaker 1: miss And in Canada they take grade five. Just you know, well,
- 34:28Speaker 1: before we go, we're gonna have some time for some audience.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Did we flew all the way here. We're not leaving you.
- 34:34Speaker 1: We're gonna extend this bad boy guys for another hour.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Alert the affiliates. We're going along. Um, we're gonna have
- 34:44Speaker 1: time for some audience questions. Good, but also under your
- 34:48Speaker 1: chairs there are clipboards. You get a car, you get
- 34:51Speaker 1: a car, you get a clipboard. You get a clipboard.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Everyone has a clipboard. We've got a lightning round where
- 34:58Speaker 1: sort of your This is like Newlywed game where everyone's
- 35:02Speaker 1: gonna separately answer a couple of questions and we'll just
- 35:05Speaker 1: see how much they match up to the truth. So
- 35:13Speaker 1: if you're true? Yeah, so all right, the first question,
- 35:17Speaker 1: you guys got your sharpies? These are all names. What
- 35:23Speaker 1: happens if we win? So uh, Bill will give you
- 35:27Speaker 1: a point in ted Lasso. So, first question, who was
- 35:34Speaker 1: the most likely on the show to forget their lines? Yeah? Okay,
- 35:49Speaker 1: Erica take It's hard to forget your lines if you
- 35:59Speaker 1: don't look at the scho Who on this stage is
- 36:04Speaker 1: most likely to google themselves? No cheating, no peeking. All right,
- 36:17Speaker 1: you're ready and reveal you got it? I'm Bill? What
- 36:32Speaker 1: you you got your the Todd? I wrote the Todd
- 36:38Speaker 1: because I assume if he's not in the audience, he's
- 36:40Speaker 1: lurking backstage as we spake. You said who on the stage,
- 36:44Speaker 1: though the Todd is on your cameo. By the way. So,
- 36:54Speaker 1: by the way, Bill, um, the I know famously when
- 36:56Speaker 1: you got rid of the sound effects, the one sound
- 36:58Speaker 1: effect you didn't get rid of was the Todds trivia.
- 37:01Speaker 1: The only sound effect that lasted the whole series was
- 37:03Speaker 1: the Todd's high five, which so why did you keep that?
- 37:06Speaker 1: Why why did that stick? The people, the people that
- 37:09Speaker 1: ran NBC at the time, there were no single camera comedies.
- 37:12Speaker 1: They thought they were flat and unfunny, and they missed,
- 37:14Speaker 1: you know, they wanted to be loud, raucous audience laughter.
- 37:18Speaker 1: And so to try and get the show picked up,
- 37:20Speaker 1: we put nine thousand sound effects in. John. Do you
- 37:23Speaker 1: remember like when you would you would turn your head,
- 37:25Speaker 1: it would be like and every time I see those episodes,
- 37:29Speaker 1: I hate myself on I die inside. But they it
- 37:33Speaker 1: stopped pretty quickly. Yeah, I stopped it after like three
- 37:36Speaker 1: or four episodes. But then, uh, the Todd's high fives
- 37:39Speaker 1: were so funny. No, there's something great about that, all right.
- 37:44Speaker 1: So next one on this stage, who's the one pushing
- 37:47Speaker 1: the hardest for a Scrubs reboot? Who is the most
- 37:52Speaker 1: eager to get back in front of the cameras and
- 37:55Speaker 1: make this happen like the crowd wants Yes, facts, you're right.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I think we all kind of want it. Here's the deal.
- 38:26Speaker 1: I think we all want it. We all would love
- 38:28Speaker 1: to work together again. It's just that it's really hard
- 38:32Speaker 1: to to It can't be a full season of a show.
- 38:36Speaker 1: It would have to be like a movie or something
- 38:38Speaker 1: like a movie. We can only get like a where
- 38:40Speaker 1: you can only get like a couple of months to
- 38:43Speaker 1: it because everybody else is doing something. This dude is
- 38:46Speaker 1: never gonna be free again again. The problem is the
- 38:51Speaker 1: problem is you know, if you went to ET after
- 38:55Speaker 1: the success of ET and said, ET, do you want
- 39:00Speaker 1: to do EAT? Yeah? Do you want to do ET two?
- 39:05Speaker 1: ET would be like, is Spielberg doing ET two? Because
- 39:09Speaker 1: if he is, I'll do ET two. And that's how
- 39:12Speaker 1: I think how I can't speak for all of us,
- 39:15Speaker 1: but we can't possibly do anything else without the wonder
- 39:19Speaker 1: kid here. And he's a little bit busy, but when he,
- 39:21Speaker 1: if he finds time, I would definitely be down to
- 39:24Speaker 1: do it. We will, we will. We're gonna do it.
- 39:26Speaker 1: You guys know we're gonna do it. We'll do it.
- 39:31Speaker 1: It's too fun, right, I mean, we're gonna be in
- 39:33Speaker 1: a trade tomorrow, Monday morning, scrubs, scrubs, reboot happening. I'll
- 39:38Speaker 1: I don't care about that stuff, but we're gonna do
- 39:40Speaker 1: it because we're lucky enough that people care. And I
- 39:45Speaker 1: top to bottom, we enjoy spending time. Teach. If you
- 39:47Speaker 1: ever have an excuse to work with people that you
- 39:50Speaker 1: would want to spend time with anyways, run to it.
- 39:53Speaker 1: You know, I mean, it's the it's the the greatest
- 39:55Speaker 1: thing about this kid. So so zach in et two
- 39:58Speaker 1: is Sarah Elliott or Paul and uh I Paul. He
- 40:05Speaker 1: had a little bit of time to think about. Yeah
- 40:07Speaker 1: he had. He had a solid thirty seconds to put
- 40:08Speaker 1: it together. But don't but don't diss him. He diss him.
- 40:11Speaker 1: He came up with it. By the way, it's worth
- 40:15Speaker 1: it to me just to see I'm gonna say something.
- 40:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna see if it makes them mad the way
- 40:19Speaker 1: it used to. Just to see Neil back in that
- 40:21Speaker 1: jumpsuit again. It Neil, what was that costume? Really, It's
- 40:30Speaker 1: not a jumpsuiting. It's a shirt and a pants, hey Nell,
- 40:39Speaker 1: He'll tell. At last night, hold on Hold. Last night,
- 40:42Speaker 1: everybody was talking about how Judy inspired nurses and some
- 40:46Speaker 1: people inspired doctors to be doctors. Tell tell what you said, Well,
- 40:51Speaker 1: guys will creep up to me and public buildings. Without
- 40:56Speaker 1: you would have been a garbage man. So I did
- 41:04Speaker 1: my bit. They actually put it in the show. Bill
- 41:08Speaker 1: put it in the show because Neil would always when
- 41:11Speaker 1: people would call to jump and suit on set, like
- 41:12Speaker 1: not on the show, He'd be like, it's not a
- 41:15Speaker 1: fucking jumpsuit. I'm wearing a belt. Why would you wear
- 41:19Speaker 1: a belt with a jumpsuit? And it's eventually in the show.
- 41:26Speaker 1: It made you so mad. It did make me so mad.
- 41:30Speaker 1: It just it was irritating. And then when I had
- 41:34Speaker 1: the line to Sarah, I think it was you that
- 41:36Speaker 1: said it, and I said, I was supposed to say
- 41:38Speaker 1: it it's not a jumpsuit, it's a shirt and pants,
- 41:41Speaker 1: and instead I said, it's a shirt and a pants.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Just better somehow. But at one point they allowed me
- 41:50Speaker 1: to switch from drab gray to kind of dark blue.
- 41:54Speaker 1: I like that because I wear the same thing every
- 41:59Speaker 1: day for eight years or whatever. I didn't mind. I
- 42:07Speaker 1: was happy to be there. And I still think it
- 42:09Speaker 1: would have been hilarious if in the end, not only
- 42:11Speaker 1: was the janitor a figment of JD's imagination. He was
- 42:14Speaker 1: a figment of the entire hospital's imagination, and it was
- 42:17Speaker 1: just like a gas leak or something. I gotta give
- 42:21Speaker 1: credit to someone else. My favorite thing about his end was,
- 42:24Speaker 1: and I think it was it might have been Tim
- 42:26Speaker 1: Hobert came up with the idea that, you know, we
- 42:30Speaker 1: should say that Zach did put the penny in the
- 42:33Speaker 1: door and Neil should be wearing around his neck and
- 42:37Speaker 1: has been for years. That made me so happy. But
- 42:39Speaker 1: the writing staff on that show is great as well.
- 42:41Speaker 1: And I'm sure you guys see them all over other
- 42:43Speaker 1: shows that you love. Yeah, no, the tentacles of the
- 42:47Speaker 1: Scrubs universe. It's pretty amazing these things. We're gonna open
- 42:56Speaker 1: it up now to some audience questions. I know we've
- 42:59Speaker 1: got a right there. Why why are you doing the
- 43:05Speaker 1: administration of this? Because people are raising their hands and
- 43:10Speaker 1: this isn't Oprah and call up running out to them
- 43:14Speaker 1: to hold a mic in front of and call her.
- 43:16Speaker 1: You say what all right? When we uh, we do
- 43:21Speaker 1: have thought? Wow, the line is for me and so
- 43:23Speaker 1: I like it. Why don't we start with you, sir hi? Everyone,
- 43:27Speaker 1: First of all, thank you so much for coming and
- 43:29Speaker 1: spending time with us. We're so grateful to be here.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Thank you. This this show means so much to me.
- 43:36Speaker 1: This is this show that is the absolute basics of
- 43:41Speaker 1: my comedy DNA. So it really made a big in there.
- 43:43Speaker 1: A stand up comic, aren't you uh? Not a stand
- 43:47Speaker 1: up comice No, But anyways, he's got he's got his
- 43:50Speaker 1: we'll talk about it. Um. So. Actually, Michael was nice
- 43:54Speaker 1: enough to take the question I submitted about the musical,
- 43:57Speaker 1: so I'll ask what my follow up was going to be.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Zach and Donald, If you happen to still remember some
- 44:03Speaker 1: of the lyrics, would you be willing to do a
- 44:05Speaker 1: bit of guy love. We won't take up the time
- 44:08Speaker 1: for the whole thing, but we can do a little.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Let's face the facts about me and you, a love unspecified.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Though I'm proud to call you chocolate bear. The crowd
- 44:21Speaker 1: will always stop and stare you change keys. But I
- 44:26Speaker 1: feel exactly those feelings too, and that's why I keep
- 44:30Speaker 1: them inside, because this bear can't bear the world's disdain
- 44:36Speaker 1: and sometimes it's easy. You're too high, then explain our
- 44:40Speaker 1: guy I love. That's all it is. Guy love mine,
- 44:46Speaker 1: I'm his. There's nothing gay about it. In our All right,
- 44:53Speaker 1: that's enough of you. Thank you so much. Oh that
- 44:59Speaker 1: was awesome nicely, Dodd, thank you so much. Next question. Okay,
- 45:04Speaker 1: So first of all, Um, I was so happy to
- 45:07Speaker 1: support you, and I wish I was here when I
- 45:09Speaker 1: was at that thing. And I must say, these guys
- 45:11Speaker 1: are so good when they're off camera. To us fans,
- 45:15Speaker 1: they're amazing. Until you're amazing. Thank you. Um, that means
- 45:20Speaker 1: a lot to me. Thank you. No to tell now, Phil,
- 45:23Speaker 1: how do you, genius man create a writer's room that
- 45:27Speaker 1: does this over and over? What was this writer's room
- 45:29Speaker 1: like to create these? I mean, do you do you
- 45:32Speaker 1: maybe want to instead a genius man? Do like TV's
- 45:34Speaker 1: Mike Nichols really quick? All right, listen, whatever it takes,
- 45:39Speaker 1: whatever it takes, but for now, um, whatever you want,
- 45:42Speaker 1: no man, Lester Nichols, Uh no, I'll go quick. The
- 45:45Speaker 1: truth is, anybody that does a TV show that you
- 45:49Speaker 1: guys dig it doesn't take the time to say that
- 45:52Speaker 1: they attached themselves to other crazy talented people. Not only cast,
- 45:57Speaker 1: but the writers on my show extend into the every
- 46:01Speaker 1: great show, your YV pack, anything that you're watching right now,
- 46:04Speaker 1: there's somebody that worked on that stuff. It's a collaborative
- 46:07Speaker 1: effort some of the crew members on my new shows
- 46:10Speaker 1: or people that I've worked with for almost thirty years now.
- 46:13Speaker 1: So the set design or cabin you know, to the
- 46:15Speaker 1: sound people, to the camera people, to the DPS. So
- 46:20Speaker 1: the one piece of advice you can give you if
- 46:21Speaker 1: you want to do something like this or any aspect,
- 46:24Speaker 1: is you find other great talented people. You empower them
- 46:27Speaker 1: to do amazing jobs. You empower the actors and actresses
- 46:30Speaker 1: to own their characters and protect them and take care
- 46:33Speaker 1: of them. And then at events like this you take
- 46:35Speaker 1: credit for their work. You are a genius. Finally things
- 46:42Speaker 1: are turning up. Bill Lawrence, here we go. Yes, sir,
- 46:45Speaker 1: this is a great show. But I have a question
- 46:47Speaker 1: for Bill, what was going to happen? By the way,
- 46:49Speaker 1: this is going exactly the way I dreamed about. This
- 46:57Speaker 1: is a great show, Comma. But Bill, But on Cougar Town,
- 47:02Speaker 1: go ahead, go ahead, and sorry, sugar Jown episode six,
- 47:05Speaker 1: I've been waiting two years, two years? Yeah, what was
- 47:08Speaker 1: gonna happen? In season two? A whiskey cavalier? Oh you're
- 47:10Speaker 1: a here book? Wow? All right, whiskey Cava, I will
- 47:15Speaker 1: I'll tell you over here on the side after this
- 47:17Speaker 1: is the Scrubs thing, and I'm so grateful. I will
- 47:19Speaker 1: tell you, guys, the coolest thing about it because he
- 47:21Speaker 1: wanted to say congratulations to everybody here, including the uh
- 47:25Speaker 1: actress to play his girlving today as Scott Fulway's fiftieth
- 47:28Speaker 1: birthday coming. I mean it's like four days away, and uh,
- 47:32Speaker 1: he was the star of that show and another part
- 47:34Speaker 1: of the ensemble on this show. So I'll tell you
- 47:36Speaker 1: right after, but thanks for quitting nobody can can I go?
- 47:39Speaker 1: By the way Zach'll let Zach tell this story. The
- 47:41Speaker 1: weirdest thing on this show. You have to tell this.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna tag it off is Uh, there's so many
- 47:46Speaker 1: other actors and actors that are kind enough to come
- 47:48Speaker 1: on this show. And um, like Tom Cavanaugh who's doing
- 47:51Speaker 1: a Broadway He wait, Zach's brother doing a Broadway show.
- 47:54Speaker 1: And he says, still to this day, no matter how
- 47:56Speaker 1: long he acts, he'll walk down the street, someone will
- 47:58Speaker 1: go hey, little brother. He goes, yeah, yeah, Now tell
- 48:01Speaker 1: what happened. This is my favorite thing. This is what
- 48:02Speaker 1: happened to Scott fully He's the loveliest guy. Scott Folly
- 48:05Speaker 1: is one of the kindest people you ever meet. And
- 48:07Speaker 1: he says that on his Instagram. No matter what he writes,
- 48:10Speaker 1: it'll be like he'd like to buy beloved wife on
- 48:13Speaker 1: our fifteen year anniversary. You mean the world to me.
- 48:17Speaker 1: And then all say nobody cares jump. It's the only
- 48:26Speaker 1: thing he's mad about is for like, no matter why,
- 48:28Speaker 1: I can literally say let's save the nobody cares Sean. Yeah,
- 48:31Speaker 1: it'd be like nobody cares a National Rainforest Saving Day.
- 48:36Speaker 1: Nobody cares jump. It's now a part of my family's
- 48:40Speaker 1: were not that it's the most commonly used phrase when
- 48:42Speaker 1: someone says something everyones nobody cares. Bill. One other thing
- 48:48Speaker 1: that was amazing about scraps or were all the sort
- 48:50Speaker 1: of recurring characters, the character actors who showed up. But
- 48:53Speaker 1: you know, Phil Lewis is hooch Um Cooch really is crazy,
- 48:56Speaker 1: you guys legitimately crazy. That was the best us turn
- 49:00Speaker 1: when we finally when j D and Turk finally realized
- 49:03Speaker 1: that Hooch was crazy, because it was all it always was,
- 49:06Speaker 1: who is crazy? And then at the end up it
- 49:08Speaker 1: was like no, who who just crazy? Well, when he
- 49:11Speaker 1: started bringing out a lighter and be like burn for
- 49:13Speaker 1: a burn uh shout out from all of us. Neil
- 49:17Speaker 1: said it last night, Neil'll let you say it again
- 49:20Speaker 1: about the all the extra characters on the show and stuff. Well,
- 49:23Speaker 1: I think it's a mark of uh great shows. Let's
- 49:28Speaker 1: see very good shows and like that, Like i'd put
- 49:30Speaker 1: at the top the Simpsons, uh that they're able to
- 49:33Speaker 1: surround their main cast with secondary characters and then tertiary
- 49:38Speaker 1: characters and it becomes a world and someone who was
- 49:42Speaker 1: in one episode of season one or something can reappear
- 49:45Speaker 1: two years later and you go, oh, that's that's pop Guy,
- 49:48Speaker 1: or what that Snoop Dogg? Or or by the way,
- 49:52Speaker 1: I remember that skin doctor that just loved bad skin
- 49:55Speaker 1: so much messed up. We have a least one in
- 50:00Speaker 1: the audience, beard face. Where are you shut the fuck up?
- 50:11Speaker 1: It's Beard. It's beard for say damn it Beard. F
- 50:21Speaker 1: s oh, it's awesome. By the way, our background performers
- 50:29Speaker 1: were so diligent and so lovely and so talented on
- 50:33Speaker 1: their own that sometimes when we were struggling to write
- 50:36Speaker 1: jokes on that show, make sure I say it's about
- 50:39Speaker 1: looking bad, because we would we would literally go, let's go,
- 50:42Speaker 1: let's go, uh wrap with the background actors and see
- 50:44Speaker 1: what's going on on there. And then one of the writers,
- 50:46Speaker 1: Mike Schwartz, was like that gentleman looks like the Kentucky
- 50:49Speaker 1: Fried chicken guy. And he became Colonel doctor. If you
- 50:54Speaker 1: if you look back at the show, we eventually say
- 50:56Speaker 1: his real name, it's Coleman Slavsky. Which is his name
- 50:59Speaker 1: is base? All right? Next question please? Um. So, I
- 51:08Speaker 1: was thirteen years old when the show started, and I
- 51:10Speaker 1: watched from the beginning all the way through the end,
- 51:13Speaker 1: and um, you were twenty three when it ended. Yes,
- 51:17Speaker 1: pretty close all away. Two. Yeah, like when I was
- 51:21Speaker 1: in college. That was like when it so I kind
- 51:22Speaker 1: of grew up with Scrubs. Basically, you're welcome, thank you.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Um So, I mean, obviously I was not anything like
- 51:31Speaker 1: the characters because I was a thirteen year old girl.
- 51:33Speaker 1: I wasn't a medical intern or anything like that. And um,
- 51:35Speaker 1: but still I found myself relating to the characters anyway.
- 51:39Speaker 1: And so I was wondering if that was ever something
- 51:41Speaker 1: you were conscious of in acting or in writing about,
- 51:45Speaker 1: like you know, kind of tapping into your inner child
- 51:48Speaker 1: or inner adolescent to kind of I'm glad you sensed that, Yes,
- 51:54Speaker 1: especially yes, that's I was reaching out old girls every
- 52:05Speaker 1: h Hey, I'll give a quick real answers. There's another
- 52:09Speaker 1: shout out that these guys were nice enough to give
- 52:11Speaker 1: the other night. The show is based on my best
- 52:14Speaker 1: friend from college. He's still a cardiologist and surgeon in
- 52:18Speaker 1: LA's name's John Doris, not John Dorian. We call it Sarah.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Tell everybody what you nicknamed him? I believe, didn't you.
- 52:26Speaker 1: I don't know if it was me that nicknamed him,
- 52:28Speaker 1: but his because he's the real jd. His nickname is real,
- 52:31Speaker 1: and so we all somehow. I have no idea I
- 52:33Speaker 1: got his cell phone number. Was his terrible stake to
- 52:34Speaker 1: give it to me, And so if anything ever goes wrong,
- 52:37Speaker 1: which is very frequently in my mind, I call him
- 52:39Speaker 1: up and I'm like, real, real, here's the deal. And
- 52:44Speaker 1: but the thing I think that you're asking is when
- 52:47Speaker 1: he started as a heart surgeon in Cardiolo, he was
- 52:49Speaker 1: so young and as a buddy of his that remembered him,
- 52:53Speaker 1: you know, as a just an absolute idiot in college,
- 52:56Speaker 1: you know, and that he was taking care of people
- 52:58Speaker 1: are living or dying when he was still a kid.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I think we were really trying to capture that, especially
- 53:04Speaker 1: with these three, a little with Judy, but she was
- 53:06Speaker 1: always intentionally grown up in the show already, you know
- 53:08Speaker 1: what I mean. And so I think that came through
- 53:11Speaker 1: that you were just kids way over their head. Yeah,
- 53:12Speaker 1: I know. I was not the only one who started
- 53:15Speaker 1: watching at thirteen, so I felt like that must have been.
- 53:17Speaker 1: That's how old I was when I created the show.
- 53:18Speaker 1: I'm the same thing. I have a question, did you
- 53:21Speaker 1: go on to become a doctor? No? No, and I
- 53:26Speaker 1: I'm just joking and I never even had any aspirations
- 53:29Speaker 1: to being a doctor. But it's still like, but I
- 53:31Speaker 1: love medical shows. I'm basically a doctor now because I
- 53:34Speaker 1: watch a lot of medicals. I'm basically a doctor. Natur
- 53:37Speaker 1: You got it. Yeah, yeah, thank you so much for
- 53:45Speaker 1: your question. Next, sir, my questions for John John get
- 53:49Speaker 1: him to talk. I'm actually I'm also a dad of
- 53:53Speaker 1: a of a son with Down syndrome. And you're doing
- 53:56Speaker 1: he's doing. He's fifteen, just turned fifteen, a tiny brow
- 54:00Speaker 1: of its accident, typical houses language. That's okay, yeah, say
- 54:03Speaker 1: that's our biggest challenge. And I want to thank you
- 54:05Speaker 1: for all your advocacy that you do for dnasty. Oh right,
- 54:08Speaker 1: on I don't right. My question is being the parent
- 54:17Speaker 1: of someone with special needs while you're on the show,
- 54:20Speaker 1: how did that influence your portrayal of doctor Cox. Well,
- 54:23Speaker 1: I at the first audition with Bill Lawrence, even though
- 54:28Speaker 1: in the pilot script in parentheses next to doctor Cox
- 54:32Speaker 1: walks in to Judy and uh in parentheses it said
- 54:37Speaker 1: a John McGinley type. Then I had the fucking audition
- 54:41Speaker 1: five times and a bullshit is that? And I told
- 54:51Speaker 1: Bill the first audition, I said, I think Cox is
- 54:53Speaker 1: this is so subversive. It's what actors do to themselves
- 54:56Speaker 1: all the time. I said, I thought Cox was too
- 54:58Speaker 1: similar to to Kelso at the he was too much
- 55:00Speaker 1: of a hammer, and to round those edges a little bit,
- 55:06Speaker 1: I decided the easiest way to do that would be
- 55:08Speaker 1: to bring my son Max in my heart to the
- 55:11Speaker 1: set every day. And that's how it rounded Cox. Thank
- 55:16Speaker 1: you really nice. Next question, please, Hi, thank you so much.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Your hat dude, Thank you very much. Um, it'd be
- 55:32Speaker 1: really cool if I could have that. Are you gonna
- 55:37Speaker 1: cut on that hat? Bill or so? Oh I'm not here,
- 55:41Speaker 1: it's cool, go ahead. Sorry, Well, if you asked her, yeah,
- 55:43Speaker 1: I mean, can you imagine if Bill walked around in
- 55:44Speaker 1: the fucking Scrubs hat. That's like Sam jack Remember when
- 55:49Speaker 1: Sam Jackson used to do that all the time. We
- 55:51Speaker 1: get all this amazing swag and like I can't wear it.
- 55:56Speaker 1: Uh yeah for TV's nick um whatever whatever it is
- 55:59Speaker 1: that yeah, yeah, wait what he's Mike Nichols. Thank you,
- 56:04Speaker 1: Mike Nichols. Mike Nichols Yeah yeah yeah almost close by
- 56:08Speaker 1: the way. We we appreciate that lifelong relationship. And then
- 56:11Speaker 1: you just botched Mike Nichols the last second. Man, No,
- 56:14Speaker 1: I'm jugs. We'll go, go go go. So the question is,
- 56:17Speaker 1: so I actually so I got this hat at a
- 56:19Speaker 1: trivia night. Um. I don't know how they got the hat,
- 56:21Speaker 1: but you know I got it um at the trivia
- 56:23Speaker 1: night in New York City years back. Um, all of
- 56:26Speaker 1: us are super big fans, and so you probably interact
- 56:28Speaker 1: with a lot of us who do know a ton
- 56:29Speaker 1: about the show. So the question is do you feel
- 56:32Speaker 1: like super overwhelmed at like fans who are like, oh,
- 56:34Speaker 1: you know, I know so much about the show, and
- 56:35Speaker 1: you're like, oh, you know, like it's it's just interacting
- 56:38Speaker 1: with us, you know, like feeling like we just like
- 56:40Speaker 1: only if we feel like we're letting you down. There's
- 56:43Speaker 1: one you want to most ask question of me that
- 56:45Speaker 1: I don't know if Sarah gets it. Sarah has one
- 56:49Speaker 1: boyfriend on the show that she says, you can tell
- 56:52Speaker 1: me your deepest fantasy, darkest fantasy, and then he leans
- 56:56Speaker 1: in and whispers, and we cut away, and then she
- 56:58Speaker 1: walks out having dumped him. The amount of people that
- 57:01Speaker 1: are like, what did he say? And I'm like, that's
- 57:04Speaker 1: a joke. We could never figure it out. So we
- 57:06Speaker 1: felt like you could just decide on your own how
- 57:08Speaker 1: horrible a person you are when you decide what he
- 57:13Speaker 1: could possibly say to make her dump him immediately. But yeah,
- 57:16Speaker 1: I don't. I can't remember the show like you guys.
- 57:18Speaker 1: I'm old and my brain gets addled and I forget
- 57:22Speaker 1: that Zach recommended books to me. It's funny, and won't
- 57:25Speaker 1: you know, watching the show back, it's funny because we
- 57:28Speaker 1: don't remember it, but obviously it's our sense of humors.
- 57:31Speaker 1: So we're sitting there cracking up at these people and
- 57:35Speaker 1: so enjoying it. But it's us. By the way. The
- 57:39Speaker 1: best is when I do go on their podcast, Donald
- 57:41Speaker 1: and Zach are watching like fans, and they'll say a thing.
- 57:42Speaker 1: They'll go like, hey, Judy Rays is really really good.
- 57:46Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, I know, I was, I'm aware, I'm aware.
- 57:50Speaker 1: You know you know Sarah's funny. I'm like, yeah, yeah, no,
- 57:54Speaker 1: Well I really have to say I keep saying it,
- 57:56Speaker 1: but Sarah's comedic timing is so masterful and and I
- 58:01Speaker 1: mean really, and I think you know, Donald and I
- 58:07Speaker 1: were so in our own world. We both have said
- 58:10Speaker 1: numerous times we just weren't aware of it. But the
- 58:13Speaker 1: other day we watched an episode where Sarah had two
- 58:16Speaker 1: reasons why she can no longer go camping. I forgot
- 58:19Speaker 1: what the first one is, but this was her timing.
- 58:21Speaker 1: I don't do justice, but this was the timing on
- 58:23Speaker 1: the on what the second reason was. And then of
- 58:26Speaker 1: course the wolf who mounted me. What was the one
- 58:40Speaker 1: where she oh, the one that was really great was
- 58:43Speaker 1: and it was really weird when she tried to commit
- 58:45Speaker 1: suicide and so she walks out into the lake and
- 58:48Speaker 1: then bam, bam, bam bam. Or hit me from the
- 58:51Speaker 1: row team. Yeah, a rowing team. A rowing team hit
- 58:54Speaker 1: her and and ruined her suicide attempt. How about you guys?
- 59:01Speaker 1: Did one the other day where Sarah's gonna doesn't want
- 59:05Speaker 1: the guy in her house, and they have box sex.
- 59:09Speaker 1: They have a box. No, they eat her in their
- 59:12Speaker 1: own box um stimulating themselves. Billy, what the fuck was that?
- 59:21Speaker 1: What the fuck was so much of it? We I
- 59:25Speaker 1: still I still get together a lot of the writers,
- 59:27Speaker 1: and they were lovely. I would reach points on this show.
- 59:30Speaker 1: There's a lot of show. I stayed the whole show.
- 59:32Speaker 1: It's a lot of episodes of TV. And you know,
- 59:35Speaker 1: some days I would come in and they'd be like,
- 59:38Speaker 1: what's doctor Cox angry about? I go, who cares? I
- 59:41Speaker 1: don't care what he's angry about. And someone be like,
- 59:43Speaker 1: could these guys have sex in two different boxes? Like, yeah, yeah,
- 59:48Speaker 1: we've been here forever. Yeah, they can have sex in
- 59:50Speaker 1: two different boxes. And an Ostrich steals titled Tango. No,
- 59:57Speaker 1: not in a fantasy he had in a fantasy. He
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: steals the can go because he's snuck into the car. Yeah,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: we drove to the house and then he's pacing like
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: a century and we're in a tree wearing the can
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: go and it's not a fantasy. They're my favorite version
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: of this was also not a fantasy. Just see so
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: we'd been doing it for a long time, and then
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: we kind of circled back. Neil, do you remember this
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: that in the script I wrote that the janitor built
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: a sand castle in a parking lot, and I thought
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: it'd be the size of a kid's playhouse, a sand
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: castle on the parking lot that he pretended to have
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: slept in the night before. And then I drove into
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: work and there's a fucking building made of sand and
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: I was like, uh huh. And it was like standing
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: on the second floor. It was like a spinal tap
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: in reverse. They built the thing ten times larger than
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: it was supposed to be. By body you did. You
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: could have had the option to flash out of it
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: as a fantasy, and you chose not to. Now, I
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: just gotta go in about Donald folds me into the
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: backpack not a fan, not a fantasy, not a fantasy.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: Donald puts me in the backpacker. It takes me to
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: the movie theaters so we can get into one ticket,
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: all right. I just I just realized scrubs had Guy,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: did you have a question, I don't even I don't
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: even know anymore. Yeah, Well, thank you so much, Thank
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: you guys so much appreciated. Backed up, Zach and Donald high.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: Nice to see you again. I was on your podcast
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: in the middle like right wind all out of the chair.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: I don't remember, brother. My question. First, I want to
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: just thank you for and we have talked about it
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: the podcast, just this idea of like y'all's friendship, how
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: got you could finally show you know, true love for
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: your best friend, and it was just like open and honest,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: and also just how Scrubs kind of was a positive
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: force for people of like having people lead some of
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: the show and be like positive influences stuff. So I
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: just want to say thank you for that. My question,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: I guess the bill would be once again like I'm
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: so nervous, sorry, and I sometimes people like kind of
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: fade away after shows and stuff like that, but everybody
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: on stage has had like a really awesome career afterwards,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: and I kind of wanted to see how did you
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: ever think that was gonna happen when you first signed
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: them up and to see where they are now after
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: I thought they ended of your question what have you
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: been up to anything? And I'm not sure if your works. Uh.
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: I joked about it before with the well first, by
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: the way, the earlier part one of the things I'm
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: proudest of in my career. We've talked about it already,
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: is how Donald and Judy portrayed a start to finish
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: relationship with positivity, kindness. I thought it was awesome, so
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: um uh, and it meant a lot to me, you know,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: I said early on, you know that these guys could
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: do comedy and drama top to bottom. And one of
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: the main reasons, quite truly, I don't want to be
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: judgmental of anybody that does reboots. Some of them make
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: me so happy because I'm such a TV fan. I
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: love TV as much as everybody here is One of
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: the things I knew about this show is that these
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: people are all so good. All of us knew they
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: were going to keep working, and so it's very hard,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: you know, to go. We get together anyways because we
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: love each other. Everybody here works every second, you know
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: what I mean, and so the need you know, to
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: kind of do so. I knew they were that hyper
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: talented from the start, top to bottom. I knew the
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: writers were, you know, I'd made a joke about it already,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: even with Neil Flynn and when we let him improv
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: and he improvs so much on this show you guys,
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: we were reliving at dinner last night some of our
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: favorite ones. One was I told him to come up
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: with a present that he gave to Sam Lloyd's character,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: and he riffed this thing about beating up a duck
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: on the side of a highway. My favorite part of that.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Just so you know, I said again last night, I've
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: never laughed hard when I was in editing because I
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: hadn't even seen it was he said. Next thing, you know,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: me and the duck are on the side of the freeway,
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: both with our shirts off. I'm like, why, why, why's
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: the duck wearing your shirt? And he's like sewing each other.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: What's so he beat a duck to death? Uh? But yeah,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: So I knew I was very very lucky and blessed
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: early on that and that all these people, you know,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: you guys aren't surprised that everyone up here is continuing
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: to crush it. Neil Flynn has been on Who Said
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: It last night? Neil Flynn has had the most insane
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: with long run of being on the point one years
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: of network television straight something like that. You know, I
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: say this all the time when this sort of thing
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: comes up. One um, well, Bill, you put me on
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: the map because we got lucky. The show was good
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: and it stayed on the air. That's all the difference
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: it is between there's a thousand people to get a
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: TV show that doesn't stay on the air, so it
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: doesn't get any footing for their career. And then I
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: slided to slid to another TV show that stayed on
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: the air, and ilcome welcome, Yes and all my Modern
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Family teammates. I don't care if you remember the name
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: of this show. It stayed on the air. And so
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: you seem like it's luck. Bring your skill with you
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: and be surrounded by skillful people, but hope for luck.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: And one of the things that Bill really committed to
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: was creating a true ensemble oftentimes even though it has
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: led through Zach's voice or most of the time as
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: part of a cast, you're supporting your number one. But
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: he made and the writers made space for all of
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: us a to contribute and develop the characters as we did,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: you know, stealing from our private lives and everything, but
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: also to really really have your moment in terms of
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: everybody's lives, which helped us you know, complicated in terms
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: of being funny and being dramatic and emotional. So Bill
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: is yeah, phillis now the time that we talk about
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: season nine season And by the way, uh, I'm not.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: We didn't all work on season nine. You did not
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: work one season. I didn't. I didn't. But the the
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: I tell you right now that if they'd let me
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: do that just as a spin off like eight season eight.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: As the finale, Season nine was called Scrubs med, they
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: got nervous, they retitled it. I thought it was funny, man,
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: I'll watch it again right now. I don't care what
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: anybody says. Bill's never seen an episode of season Yeah,
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: I mean, I'm gonna check it out when they get
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: there in the podcast. But I'm um excited to watch it.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: I truly, I no jokes aside, I've never seen an
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: episode of season nine. So when we do get there
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: in the podcast, it's gonna be a blast. I think
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: you guys will dig it. Zach, you're in it for
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: a good chunk though. Yeah, I mean there, but I
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: still never saw any of the ones I was in. Yeah,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: so it'll be interesting. Wow. Well we have unfortunately time
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: for just one more Oh no, no, no no, through them.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: We'll go fast. You can turn that mic to your face.
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Little can you go quick? We're to get by the way.
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: I'll after a machine gun. You guys, questions and I'll
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: walk around like Phil Donahue old reference. We'll all answers
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: could be great. We'll go quite fast. Um well, I'll
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: just get to my question then. Um, so, how do
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: you say the nice things? You want to hear the
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: nice things too, Questions like thank you for everything. I
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: think everyone in this room has like a scrub story,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: like my first date with my now fiance. We just
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: were snowed in an upstate New York and watching scrubs
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: and it's just like it was a really special that's
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: worth it. Yeah, and so, but my question is, how
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: do you think that your characters would have handled the pandemic? Like,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: not to answer for Neil Flynn, but in my mind,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: I think the janitor would have been vaccinating the brain
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Trust with some made up vaccine he made, Like, how
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: do you think that your characters would have handled the pandemics?
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: You'll hire her? No, that's funny, that's funny. Look, the
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: coolest thing was I think they would have been I'll
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: go quick on this one, because we had a huge
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: medical responsibility and the only role in the show was
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: that these this gang was never allowed to be perceived
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: as not caring, you know, and and not so about
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: the patients. I think they would have taken it incredibly seriously.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: The weirdest thing for me during the pandemic, if you
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: saw it, was showing how infection went from person to person.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: With that scene the episode which U I forgot her name,
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: the actress's name, diet was it wilk was her last
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: name or was it was yet uh, you know, kind
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: of became a thing of showing how COVID is transmitted
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: and stuff. So I think they would have risen to
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: the challenge and crushed it. I mean they were all
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: playing those parts with such heart and I love that
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: you got. Uh your first date was with your fiance.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: That's awesome, No problem, rappid Fire, Let's go. Sorry, I'm
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: very nervous. I'm very excited. Um, you guys have like
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: no idea how much you've affected me. Like was one
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: like my first like adult comedy, so like I made
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: my mom like drive me to target and by the
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: DVDs I brought it. UM very nervous right now, So um,
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: just I guess like a quick question. Uh, I guess
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: similar to the last one. Where would you see your characters? Now? Well,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: by the way, you're asking me to write the reboot
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: in front of you, man, I think, uh, oh, I
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: know they they find us, find me afterwards. If you
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: want going to sign those things many finally come out. Yes, Well,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: I don't know if texts the rest of Texas is
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: ready for that, but well, let me just quickly say
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: thank you so much. Like especially Zach, you've helped me
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: so much. Like growing up, he wasn't the most you know, masculine,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: and I wasn't either in school so so, but they
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: always he always got the girl and that was really
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: cool to see as a young you know, young man
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: that wasn't into sports ball. So I think that's enough
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: for the fucking show. Thank you. Should tell them about
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: when you were a youth and how you went to
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: theater camp and how you did all of those things
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: and how and uh and how was the theme of
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: your barst musicals Let's hear it for the Boy entered
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: till let's hear it for the boy? All right? Thank you.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: First of all, you guys are a huge inspiration for me.
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: It's the whole reason I started stand up comedy. I'm
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: gonna get to my question super super fast Bill. The
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: show is super visual, and I was wondering, how did
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: you convince the executives to go with you on that
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: journey from nobody ever came by. The cool thing about
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: being in the creepy deserted hospital the time when all
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: those shows were on sound stages was they didn't know
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: what we were doing until we showed it to them. Uh,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: they didn't think it was gonna work. If it hadn't worked,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: we would have been canceled so very fast. But it
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: was still something. Um. I wanted to call my production
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: company Noble Failures Production because our goal was just to
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: make something and that you could show your friends and
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: family and be proud of. And the people that brought
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: the visual sense to It's not me, it's the pilot
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: director Adam Bernstein Zach directed so many he's so fucking
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: good at it. Um, Mike Spiller, Gale Mancuso. There's just
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: so many people that A Monadoza do it? What's up?
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: Linda Mendoza Mendoza DPS, Andy Rawson, John in Woods. So
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: I knew I wanted to have a cool look, but uh,
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: I don't know how to do that, and those people
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: all do so Thanks man, thank you, thank you so much.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Next question, Yes, uh, Donald, woutang forever, Wu tang forever.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: Woo tang is forever. There's very few things that are forever.
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: Wotever is forever. And you know what else is forever?
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Scrubs is forever. Baby's forever. By the way, by the way,
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: just so you guys know, we did a Today's Show
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: interview this morning where we're all having a competition to
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: see who could come up with the best end line,
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: and Donald's doing it again now, by the way, it
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: should by the way on Scrubs this forever. We should
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: just all walk off and thank you. Bill. You've done
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: a lot of things. I'm sorry, TV's my nichols Um.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: You do a lot of all back with a lot
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: of the jokes in places inside the show, and I
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: need closure, and I think some of us do need closure.
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: What the hell happened to Jay? What the hell happened
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: to JD's half Acre? Oh? Oh, you know what I
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: thought you're gonna says half Acre. I thought you're gonna
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: say what went down at LaVerne's above ground. I know
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: you know a lot about it on your podcast. We
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: know a lot about it on your podcast. You know.
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: The funny thing for those of you listen to the
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: podcast was that we had a looma right on and
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: we said, you know, Alma, there's what do you know?
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: Tell us about your feelings about what happened in the
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: above ground pool parties? And she goes, you think I
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: read the rest of the script. So Aloma had no
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: idea that there was a whole runner about her above
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: ground pool party because she would just flip to where
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: her lines were. I don't know why if you were
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: having a pool party, why would you specify that it
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: was an above ground pool at half acres still out
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: there somewhere. Man, it became a hangout spot. But uh,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: that's why we're no older gay gentleman. Okay, thank you,
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: thank you. Next up, Hello, um, so I have a
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: question for Sarah and Judy. Also, my last name is Reyes.
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: Where family we are are you from? I'm from California?
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: For you Dominican, I am not now I don't want
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: to talk to you. Yeah, I'm sorry I did. That
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: was one of my favorite thrower lines though. It was
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: just like I'm not Mexican from Domican. So, um, I
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: read or I heard an interview. I think it was
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: on one of the commentaries that your guys's friendship mirrored
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: in the show, kind of like how it was in
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: real life. Can you talk a little bit about that,
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: like how you guys kind of become best friends. We
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: actually decided to have babies at the same time. Actually
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: that was a quincidence, but it was very exciting. It
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: was a psychic connection. She's having a baby, I'm gonna
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: have a baby. I don't even remember who got back
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: in first. It was probably the same day. Yeah, when's
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: your kid's birthday? Christmas Eve? Thanksgiving? But I had an
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: emergency c section, so it probably was the same day.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: This is kind of how it happens. Kind of we
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: just we just kind of bond and chat and talked like,
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: you know, like Sarah talks like twenty miles a minute,
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: and I just feel like I have to share information
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: with with her really quickly, you know. Um, But Sarah's
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: the cutest, funniest thing in the world, you know, And
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: that's one of the things about all of us being
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: together that we just kind of like really seriously collapse
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: back into the place where we were, where we all met.
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: There's an enormous chemistry there and I like her last night.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: I'm coming out next year. Think okay, covid um. I
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: have to say, you know, I can't imagine how lucky
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: I was that Judy is my other lady on the show.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: We had such a good time together and it's so true,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: Like I think we were two seconds in two meeting
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: on the street yesterday. I was like, Judy, You're not
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: gonna believe it. The last four years were crazy in
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: the demic. This is what happened. If my type is
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: darkest from the last. Yeah, we were about to do
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: it right now again. So but you guys got to
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: get your questions sprayed by a skunk. I have to
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: peece soon, so we say we'll go ass be really quick.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Um hire one high Sarah. So a lot of people
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: in the medical profession, not me, because ye high Sarah,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: what the fuck is that? No redundant questions? All right? Sorry, quickly,
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: quickly quick. A lot of people in the medical profession, um,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: not me. He had disappointed. My parents say that UM
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: Scrubs is the most medically accurate show, like really depicting
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: what it's like to work in hospital. Every hospital has
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: an ass box. Yea true go um, what made that happen?
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: Like beyond the writing like what did you a real
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: real j d um? He would he wouldn't please us
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: on the actual medical ship, but he talked hours and
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: hours about you're going, hey, everybody here, imagine your first
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: day of work as somebody in the early twenties, and then, um,
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: imagine that you're also responsible for people living and dying.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: And the doctors that worked with us would endlessly tell
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: us the stories of how they're afraid, how they had
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: a hard as shiit mentor how they had a nurse
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: that when they started knew more about medicine than they did,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: even though they were the doctors. And we just sucked
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: it in and stole their ship man, and we were
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: really we were really conscientious about doing it. And one
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: of the things we're most proud of is that people
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: say this is one of the more realistic medical shows.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: So I remember the first time we had to do
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: an operating room scene and I put they put makeup
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: on me and I was like, oh yeah, and it's
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: about to be the scene. I'm about to cut this
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: dude open. And then When I got in there, they
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: covered my face with a mask, and I remember thinking,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: there's no show on television that does this. Every show
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: on television when they're in the operating room, these cats
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: don't have masks on. They're talking over the patient would
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: spit flying out of their mouths and stuff like that,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: and I remember when that happened, I was like, Wow,
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: this is gonna be real like that. The other joke
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: of that was then Donald, on the other hand, was like,
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: I don't really need to know my lines. We can
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: just dub them in later my mouth. I said that once.
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: I said that once. I said I did say that once.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: Thanks Matt. And that's where it all began. All right,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: we've got five people, we got four minutes left, so
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: we could do first I'm visiting from New York, so
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: show out to the Bronx on Judy's shirt. So my
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: question is, I know you were saying it's um based
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: on a real person, a real doctor, but if the
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: show could be based a different workplace, what do you
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: think would work well or be the funniest brothel? There?
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: You go? Perfect one x one next up, By the way,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: it's a great question, Thank you. This would have worked
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: anyway anywhere, because the show was really about these guys
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: becoming a family, laying if I may. A lot of
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: shows try to repeat it and if it's not the same,
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: we're props in the high school scrubs and a that
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: For a while, that used to be how you pitched shows.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: You would go and go where I'm gonna do scrubs
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: in a high school, teachers, I'm gonna do scrubs in
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: a law office, and so scrubs are just scrubs. It
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: reps Colman Brothel. I think is Zach nailed it? Thank you? Man?
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: What's up? You don't have a question for Bill hit it?
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: We have? What can you say about the Clone High reboot?
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: Oh it's it's funny. Christen Phil and I worked on
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: the first six episodes coming out and about uh, we're
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: just now doing the animatics for the second season. You're
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: gonna dig it. It's funny, I promise, Thank you so much.
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: Say soundtrack changed the game? Awesome soundtrack? Oh cool, thanks man?
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Next up? I like your shirt? Like your shirt? Well shirt,
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: look at that and the time? Um okay, so I'm
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: super nervous. And one thing I've learned from listening to
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: your podcast and fiddle San Antonio and Shay Saranos to
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: shoot my shot. I drove up here from San Antonio
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: early this morning just to see you guys. Gonna shoot
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: my shot and ask a really big favor if I
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: could just stand in front of the stage and take
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: a shot. Go ahead, go go go, go, go quick,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: quick quick, if we're no even knows, heading the mike
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: towards you while you get ready, we can get the
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: other questions. We'll get the other question. Just get it
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: ready when you set up. Go oh wait, oh yeah, right, perfect,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: next up? All right, next up? Turn the mic down
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: to you. Yeah yeah, there you go. Yeah. Okay. So obviously,
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: as big fans, we've all watched Scrubs a ton, and
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: I'm wondering what is your guys version of Scrubs? As
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: far as TV shows like what TV show? What's a
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: good question? Ted Lasso, Ted Lasso, and then now Winning
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: Time Wait Times Good. I want to stay on think
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: because there's a lot of talk about kindness in television,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: which I think matters. Okay, I really like TV where
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: people are kind and they're loving each other. It's hopefully inspiring,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: it's hopefully you know, emotionally and enriches thing. But as
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: a comedy writer, I will say, if a show is
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: open and honest about what it does, the show Veep
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: should just be called finding New Ways to be horrible
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: to each other. And by the Gabby Allen, who run
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: on Scrubs is one of the executive producers of that show.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: And right, it's so funny, it's so funny, and uh,
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: I love that show. Malcolm all right, Malcolm got me
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: through a lot of hard time. So Neil is so
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: great in that Thank you so much, thank you, thank you.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: Oh and finally, oh, by the way, I gotta bring
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: it home, great outfit, Let's do it. Thank you all,
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: especially Neil, without whom I'd be a garbage man. Sarah,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: could you please lead us in singing from the theme
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: song of Scrubs. Yes, happening is happening out the door,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: just in time, and down in the car, the boss
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: is working hard. Donald should take over and do do
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: some runs. You running late at night again? Oh no,
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: what open tone ahead? You gotta to make them all okay?
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: But I can't do this song. Oh my no, I
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: know I'm no superman. Last thing, hey, last thing to everybody,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: and then we gotta split. This is it, um Uh.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: I told you I'd find a way to close the
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: the finale. The speech that j D does in when
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: he's walking the hallway is really about what it means
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: to be a TV writer, and he says, if you're
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: lucky enough just to make people feel a little better,
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: get emotional, Donald's gonna mock mock me. Uh. It means
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: so much to us that you're here. Thank you and
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: the cast of Here's some stories about show we made
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: about a bunch of doctor nurses in the janitor who
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: loved him. I said, he's the stories that all should know.
