- 0:01Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald is our Broncos insider Altitude Sports Radio ninety
- 0:05Speaker 1: two five Pro Football.
- 0:07Speaker 2: The insider I've covered while.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Jeff Legwall he's the balloon popper. He doesn't blow it up.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
- 0:16Speaker 1: IBBW Local sixty eight. Start with the job and.
- 0:19Speaker 2: With the career.
- 0:20Speaker 3: It's Leggye on Altitude Sports Radio ninety two five.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Jeff Legwald, time right now on a Monday, Broncos
- 0:36Speaker 1: twenty seven packers too, Jeff Legwald, brought to you by
- 0:40Speaker 1: the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers ibe W Local sixty eight.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Start with a job, end with the career, Andy, Yes,
- 0:49Speaker 1: it is time for Jeff Legwald. Leggie, let's start here, uh,
- 0:55Speaker 1: step number two for bo Nicks and the number one offense.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I don't think we need to debate anymore who was
- 1:01Speaker 1: going to start against Seattle. Let's instead turn the conversation
- 1:06Speaker 1: towards what you saw in terms of progression from week
- 1:09Speaker 1: one of the preseason to week two of the preseason
- 1:12Speaker 1: for bow Knicks and and sort of where that leaves
- 1:15Speaker 1: us as the Broncos are right now.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Yeah, Nate, I mean, I think I think what's happened
- 1:23Speaker 2: is they have found a sort of a narrow avenue
- 1:28Speaker 2: of what he's really comfortable with in the offense, and
- 1:32Speaker 2: they've kept him in that narrow avenue a little more
- 1:36Speaker 2: as each week passes, and they've gotten exactly the results
- 1:41Speaker 2: they wanted from that. I mean, he he's very, very efficient.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I mean he's comfortable with the reids in those plays.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Now again, you know, I would I would point out
- 1:54Speaker 2: two things because I think all of us need to
- 1:59Speaker 2: be fair to bow too. He has yet to face
- 2:03Speaker 2: a starting defense in either of these preseason games and
- 2:07Speaker 2: any semblance of a game plan. And he has not
- 2:11Speaker 2: pushed the ball down the field at all, except you know,
- 2:15Speaker 2: in one or two longer yarded situations. But in the
- 2:21Speaker 2: menu he was given, oh he he ate professionally, I
- 2:25Speaker 2: would say he looked very good. Again, you know, six
- 2:29Speaker 2: or seven drives he's in four and two preseason games,
- 2:32Speaker 2: they score points, they have multiple first downs on all
- 2:37Speaker 2: of those drives. There's no three and outs, so there's
- 2:41Speaker 2: no denying he is comfortable with that selection of plays
- 2:46Speaker 2: in the playbook, and I think that's where he will
- 2:49Speaker 2: live for a little bit here as they move forward,
- 2:53Speaker 2: and it will stun me. Ah, it will stun me
- 2:57Speaker 2: greatly if if Sean Payton doesn't aim him officially the
- 3:01Speaker 2: starter Wednesday or Thursday. You know, have the team meeting
- 3:06Speaker 2: in the morning on Wednesday, tell them all and then
- 3:09Speaker 2: it either leaks out before the team meeting or just after.
- 3:13Speaker 2: But it will really stun me if if that's not
- 3:16Speaker 2: how it plays out, because I don't think Sean has
- 3:19Speaker 2: any intention of playing many starters in the preseason finale.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Oh, we can take bets on what insider is going
- 3:25Speaker 1: to be the first to get it tweeted out? Is
- 3:27Speaker 1: that a chef d special Pella Sero get that one?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Kay Adams sneak in as a dark horse. Perhaps who's
- 3:33Speaker 1: gonna tweet out? Will it be won the job? Or
- 3:37Speaker 1: could it be Leggy? Speaking of that Leggy third downs
- 3:42Speaker 1: Bonix six of seven seventy two yards in a tuddy
- 3:45Speaker 1: with a one forty nine point one passer rating on
- 3:48Speaker 1: third downs Here in the preseason, what is Sean Payton
- 3:51Speaker 1: and Joel Lombardi in company doing specifically to help him
- 3:54Speaker 1: on the money down?
- 3:56Speaker 2: Well, they've helped him on first and second down too.
- 3:58Speaker 2: That a lot of us have been very manageable and
- 4:03Speaker 2: you know, his mobility or the mobility he's shown, gives them.
- 4:08Speaker 2: You know that they've been pretty effective at clearing out
- 4:11Speaker 2: one side of the formation in case uh he has
- 4:14Speaker 2: to he has to leave the pocket and go uh
- 4:18Speaker 2: and he has some real estate to do it with.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And I think they've been good about that. And I
- 4:23Speaker 2: think they've they've shown a little more flexibility than they
- 4:26Speaker 2: did with Russell Wilson last year that we've seen more pistol,
- 4:31Speaker 2: we've seen more rpo, we've seen more some we haven't
- 4:36Speaker 2: seen the full scale pre snap motion of the Chiefs
- 4:39Speaker 2: or the Dolphins, but we've seen more of what I
- 4:43Speaker 2: call a reshuffling motion, where you adjust, you move things around,
- 4:48Speaker 2: you give him a cleaner look at what he's seeing
- 4:52Speaker 2: to help him after the snap. They've they've done all
- 4:55Speaker 2: of those things more and more as camp and the
- 5:00Speaker 2: two preseason games have progressed. I think, you know, last
- 5:03Speaker 2: night was showed a big progression and a lot of
- 5:06Speaker 2: the I mean, he was in the pistol, he was
- 5:08Speaker 2: in the gum, he was I mean, he was in
- 5:10Speaker 2: a lot of the things he likes. And I think
- 5:14Speaker 2: that's good. You know, you know it's gonna be hard
- 5:17Speaker 2: enough for him anyway, and to try and force the
- 5:20Speaker 2: whole this is my offense, and you will live with it,
- 5:24Speaker 2: you know, down his professional throat, I think would have
- 5:27Speaker 2: been a bad move, and I think it's been a
- 5:30Speaker 2: good thing that Sean Payton has shown a little more
- 5:32Speaker 2: willingness to to sort of give him some comfort while
- 5:37Speaker 2: teaching him to play the position the way he'd like
- 5:40Speaker 2: him to.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Jeff, what do you think of Joe Ellis? We were
- 5:44Speaker 3: just talking about him. I mean, another guy. You know,
- 5:46Speaker 3: it's all preseason, it's all relative. So if I'm gonna
- 5:49Speaker 3: tell everybody you got to kind of hold your water
- 5:51Speaker 3: a minute on bo Nicks and what we've seen till
- 5:54Speaker 3: they're all game planning, I'm gonna do the same with
- 5:55Speaker 3: Joan Ellis. But what was your impression of him?
- 5:59Speaker 2: Oh? You can't mean the guy has forced two interceptions
- 6:02Speaker 2: and forced to fumble and recovered it in two preseason
- 6:04Speaker 2: games and you can't do much more than that. I
- 6:08Speaker 2: think for me, from a technical standpoint, he has flashed
- 6:12Speaker 2: a lot more inside counter than he did or had to.
- 6:17Speaker 2: He didn't have to flash it in college. I'm sure
- 6:19Speaker 2: it was in there, but he did not have to
- 6:21Speaker 2: use it very often. And you know, I looked at
- 6:25Speaker 2: many many games of his before the draft, but he
- 6:29Speaker 2: has shown a high level you know, countermove pass rush
- 6:34Speaker 2: plan and that translates quickly to production in the NFL.
- 6:38Speaker 2: And I think the bigger one of the bigger stories
- 6:42Speaker 2: is is they might have every guy in their draft
- 6:45Speaker 2: class except one make the roster, and the and the
- 6:49Speaker 2: sixth and the last guy probably going to be on
- 6:51Speaker 2: the practice squad, the guard. But those first collection of
- 6:57Speaker 2: picks could all make the fifty three roster. And I
- 7:01Speaker 2: think that's sort of Sean Payton like in a lot
- 7:04Speaker 2: of years he hadn't in New Orleans, but it is.
- 7:08Speaker 2: It's a testament to these rookies and how much the
- 7:10Speaker 2: Broncos need them.
- 7:12Speaker 1: So last night, Michael Bandy had a punt return, We
- 7:16Speaker 1: had a couple of touchbacks. Riley Moss was back there
- 7:19Speaker 1: one time. Riley Moss, by the way, I'm assuming is
- 7:22Speaker 1: the starting corner opposite of Patrick's Artan. But right now,
- 7:27Speaker 1: where does Marvin Mims currently stand in the mix on
- 7:30Speaker 1: this team? And how do you see the way that
- 7:33Speaker 1: his role has evolved over the course of this camp
- 7:35Speaker 1: in preseason?
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I think Marmon's shown the explosive, particularly
- 7:41Speaker 2: in the return game. I've seen the explosives in practice
- 7:44Speaker 2: pro Bowler last year. Yeah, I think, honestly, I think
- 7:49Speaker 2: the two guys that have suffered from the quarterback competition
- 7:53Speaker 2: and the lack of aggressiveness by two and a half
- 7:58Speaker 2: of the three quarterbacks. Wilson's been aggressive some of the time,
- 8:03Speaker 2: but the other two guys haven't been really aggressive because
- 8:06Speaker 2: they know mistakes are huge check marks that you're gonna
- 8:10Speaker 2: have a hard time overcoming. So I think I think
- 8:13Speaker 2: Mems and Troy Franklin have not gotten the buffet of
- 8:19Speaker 2: passes that would sort of make people comfortable with how
- 8:23Speaker 2: they're doing. Uh, especially Mems. I mean, there's been very
- 8:28Speaker 2: little down the hash big play you know those you know,
- 8:32Speaker 2: just go back and look at the Washington game and
- 8:34Speaker 2: see where those completions are coming. They're they're coming down
- 8:38Speaker 2: the hash are up the sideline. You know, you're you're
- 8:42Speaker 2: not seeing that stuff in practice, even I mean against
- 8:47Speaker 2: great the Packers Friday, there's a there's an hour and
- 8:50Speaker 2: a half of real time where I didn't I saw
- 8:55Speaker 2: two passes go back past the sticks for bow knicks,
- 8:59Speaker 2: and my chart, and that's just not gonna be Marvin
- 9:03Speaker 2: Mims's stuff. Those aren't the routes he gets to run.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So some of it's that, you know, I know, there's
- 9:09Speaker 2: this buzz you know out there that you know, boy,
- 9:13Speaker 2: they're really down on him. No coach has expressed that
- 9:17Speaker 2: to me, even off to the side, so they're either
- 9:20Speaker 2: lying or you know, I'm not getting that sentiment from anybody.
- 9:24Speaker 2: So I think there's still a lot there and he
- 9:27Speaker 2: hasn't gotten to show it, basically.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Zach Wilson, Now do you still think they keep three?
- 9:34Speaker 3: What did you make of his performance last night? Like
- 9:36Speaker 3: I've liked a lot of his camp so far, got
- 9:39Speaker 3: a little thrown off by why he didn't get out
- 9:41Speaker 3: of the end zone on that safety jet. But overall,
- 9:44Speaker 3: where do you think he sits after? Is he gonna
- 9:47Speaker 3: be the one that gets a lion's share of the works?
- 9:48Speaker 1: Sunday?
- 9:49Speaker 3: Where are we at with all that?
- 9:50Speaker 2: I would think so Andy, I think Sunday he's probably
- 9:53Speaker 2: the guy. Still I still am hearing and think they
- 9:58Speaker 2: will keep three. They like them all. Stidham's only got
- 10:02Speaker 2: a year left on his deal. Uh so there's that
- 10:05Speaker 2: clock ticking and they like Zach Wilson. They really like
- 10:11Speaker 2: what he's done. They like his his you know, there's
- 10:14Speaker 2: the physical attributes, they like the talent, They certainly like
- 10:18Speaker 2: the arm and it's you know, I'm not sure any
- 10:22Speaker 2: of the three quarterback would have would have flourished with
- 10:25Speaker 2: that group last night. You know, at the tail end
- 10:28Speaker 2: of the game. I mean, the safety is a total
- 10:30Speaker 2: whiff upfront, uh basically, and they've got guys sort of
- 10:35Speaker 2: trying out at guard who haven't been guards much. You know,
- 10:39Speaker 2: they're trying to figure out how they're going to overcome
- 10:41Speaker 2: Quinn Bailey's injury. And you know they've been they've been
- 10:45Speaker 2: putting ForSight at guard, they've been putting Will Sherman at guard.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I mean, those aren't really you know, they didn't sign
- 10:53Speaker 2: those guys with the intention of them being or draft
- 10:55Speaker 2: them with the intention of them being full time guards.
- 10:58Speaker 2: So some of it's that. And he even said after
- 11:02Speaker 2: the game, he said, I got to be way better
- 11:04Speaker 2: at the match coming out of the gate, so he
- 11:06Speaker 2: knew it wasn't quite right. But again, you know, it
- 11:10Speaker 2: makes another two throws later where even coaches told me
- 11:15Speaker 2: after the game, you know, they were they liked those throws.
- 11:19Speaker 2: So I still think three are on the roster when
- 11:22Speaker 2: all of a sudden done.
- 11:23Speaker 1: As long as we're talking about the bubble, and again
- 11:25Speaker 1: we're talking to Jeff Legwalald here on a Monday, Jeff
- 11:28Speaker 1: Legwald brought to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical
- 11:30Speaker 1: Workers ibe W Local sixty eight. Start with a job
- 11:33Speaker 1: and with a career. Tyler Batty just one of those
- 11:37Speaker 1: dudes that when he's out on the field is a
- 11:40Speaker 1: consistent playmate.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Happens, Jeff happens.
- 11:45Speaker 1: It just does. And you notice him when he is
- 11:47Speaker 1: out on the field, and he is he possibly throwing
- 11:51Speaker 1: a wrench into the thinking on the pecking order there
- 11:53Speaker 1: is he given that coaching staff something to think about
- 11:56Speaker 1: is having a real shot to make the roster or
- 11:59Speaker 1: even messing with numbers, Leggy.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Messing with the numbers. Yes, I still think it's really
- 12:05Speaker 2: hard for him to make the roster. Now, you know
- 12:08Speaker 2: two things. The practice squad is a very good living now,
- 12:13Speaker 2: so you know it's not the sort of gulag it
- 12:16Speaker 2: was for players when it first started, like before it
- 12:20Speaker 2: was like, oh god, I didn't make the roster. Now
- 12:24Speaker 2: I gotta go, you know, buy generic vegetables. Because I'm
- 12:29Speaker 2: on the practice squad. It's no longer that way. You
- 12:32Speaker 2: if you stay on the practice squad all season, uh
- 12:36Speaker 2: you can you know you can make three hundred grand,
- 12:39Speaker 2: So you're doing okaye, Yeah, it's almost you guys, it's
- 12:44Speaker 2: almost the Nate Andy you know, Ska Bank show. But
- 12:50Speaker 2: but you know, so I think he's he's gonna be
- 12:54Speaker 2: in that conversation. But the numbers are tight, you know,
- 12:58Speaker 2: they're just tight. It's like Tim Patrick, you know, last night,
- 13:03Speaker 2: you know, I hear all so many people saying, oh,
- 13:05Speaker 2: there's no ways on the bubble now, while I ask you,
- 13:10Speaker 2: there's almost no way for the Broncos to cut either
- 13:13Speaker 2: rookie and still keep him. Neither one of those guys
- 13:17Speaker 2: are getting through waivers. I don't think. So that means
- 13:21Speaker 2: there's three spots or four spots at wide receiver, and
- 13:26Speaker 2: Tim Packrick doesn't play special teams, So I just think
- 13:31Speaker 2: I think he will make the roster somehow. Yes, but
- 13:35Speaker 2: I don't think it's this slam dunk everybody thinks it is,
- 13:39Speaker 2: because look how the numbers go. If you have to
- 13:42Speaker 2: keep an extra offensive lineman because the guys left can't
- 13:46Speaker 2: do what Quinn Bailey could do. And if you keep
- 13:48Speaker 2: an extra quarterback, that's already two two extra spots on offense.
- 13:53Speaker 2: And if he keep an extra running back, that's three
- 13:56Speaker 2: extra spots on offense. And I don't know very many
- 14:00Speaker 2: teams that sort of go, you know, that don't go
- 14:03Speaker 2: twenty five, twenty five and three when they do the
- 14:06Speaker 2: fifty three. So if you get offense up to twenty
- 14:09Speaker 2: seven or twenty eight, now you're talking a very very
- 14:13Speaker 2: difficult proposition.
- 14:15Speaker 3: All right, look forward to talking to you Friday after
- 14:18Speaker 3: taking in another week of this stuff. By the way,
- 14:20Speaker 3: practices are closed no more than we're open to the public,
- 14:22Speaker 3: so people know, Uh, Jeff, we turned to you for
- 14:26Speaker 3: all things NFL knowledge. Okay, they and I were caught
- 14:30Speaker 3: off guard because we were not quite sure how the
- 14:32Speaker 3: NFL would address the situation in the regular season. But
- 14:36Speaker 3: we happen to catch a guy in a kilt work
- 14:39Speaker 3: in the field with the parabolic last night. Is kilt
- 14:43Speaker 3: appropriate a time? Is it allowed a tire when we
- 14:46Speaker 3: get to the regular season, kilt guy rethink his decisions
- 14:50Speaker 3: when we get to regular season football.
- 14:53Speaker 2: I gotta believe it's a cultural decision, so you.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Know, So that's Okay, we wondered, we wondered. Yeah, have
- 15:00Speaker 3: you ever worn a kilt? Have you ever just gotten
- 15:02Speaker 3: fancy on a Friday and and you know.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Kilted Friday and the kilt. Yeah, well, if I were
- 15:09Speaker 2: a kilt, it would be like a long breath.
- 15:12Speaker 1: That's why he joins us via twitch and it's all
- 15:16Speaker 1: just up. Yeah, we don't even know what he's We
- 15:19Speaker 1: could be Donald ducking it down there for all, know.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you know, it's just the you know, Having
- 15:25Speaker 2: been a veteran of many Chicago Saint Patrick's Day parades,
- 15:29Speaker 2: I will say I have seen my fair share of kilt.
- 15:32Speaker 2: But you've never joined in, No, not in the parade.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Your Norwegian blood has not allowed you to just simply
- 15:40Speaker 3: kilt up.
- 15:40Speaker 1: For a little bit.
- 15:42Speaker 2: You know. The Vikings didn't have the kilts. We're just
- 15:46Speaker 2: you know, had like the other stuff, you know, the helmets.
- 15:49Speaker 1: And all that. That's disappointing.
- 15:52Speaker 2: The plundering, Yeah, the plunder, the plunder jumpsuit as we
- 15:57Speaker 2: call it.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Jeff Legwalled. Everybody could be wearing a kilt. We don't know.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Jeff Lagwold is brought to you by the International Brotherhood
- 16:04Speaker 1: of Electrical Workers. I e b e W Local sixty eight.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I'll try that again, I B e W Local sixty eight.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Start with a job and with a career.
- 16:13Speaker 3: What happened was you were like you ain't you ain't
- 16:15Speaker 3: electrical working in a kilt.
- 16:17Speaker 1: No, No, that I don't recommend.
- 16:18Speaker 3: No, No, it feels dangerous.
- 16:20Speaker 1: You don't need to see all those hair stand up leggy,
- 16:23Speaker 1: good stuff, buddy, thank you, thanks, No, as we'll say it,
